Sammi: Hello.
Steve: ah
Sammi: I'm Sammie.
Steve: And I'm Steve.
Sammi: And you're listening to or watching Rose Plate Special, the most dramatic... Jillybox openingist recap podcast of The Bachelor ever.
Steve: Ever. I feel like it's been so long since I've gotten to say.
Sammi: Is there...
Steve: Ever.
Sammi: It's been... Like a season. Because the last thing we did is open the summer jelly box.
Steve: It's...
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: So that doesn't make any sense. What is happening in Bachelor Nation?
Steve: It is worth...
Sammi: Is there anything happening? Are we getting the Bachelor? Are we switching over to Mormon Wives? What's what's our future programming look like?
Steve: I have no idea. Well, here's the thing is like somehow. a podcast that it was is currently, I guess, sort of, we're in limbo, dedicated to The Bachelor and recapping The Bachelor. And we found a way.
Steve: to do more episodes of of this. then The Bachelor has found a way to actually put The Bachelor on television. ah So far as I know.
Steve: Things have been... pretty quiet. Uh, There, I mean. allegedly. The show is coming back in 2027. Ah. I would call.
Steve: this extended break thing they're on. completely Unprecedented. There's like in the history of reality television.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: uh obviously You know, if you're like, oh, Stranger Things, they go three years between seasons or whatever.
Sammi: It's never been this long of a break.
Steve: OK, sure. Yeah. All the kids on bikes are like 37 now. We get it. But. With reality TV, it it... It runs. It just runs, you know? Like, what's the longest break Survivor has taken between seasons? What's the longest break Big Brother has taken between seasons? And the answer is...
Steve: Not much. it's It's been pretty steady.
Sammi: Less than a year?
Steve: Yeah, yeah.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: I mean, that's that's how it goes. If you look at these these big legacy... ah competition style. reality shows this is how it goes and normally if one goes away it ain't coming back So...
Steve: It is. very interesting the position that we find ourselves in because Really, the last thing that ABC has said. about The Bachelor, so far as I know. was back in april and they said the bachelor's not going anywhere the bachelor will be back like this is the whole thing But...
Sammi: Iron Man will return.
Steve: I can't imagine That they have... that much faith. in this franchise or care like is this going to be like a complete reset relaunch of the show
Sammi: Mm hmm.
Steve: If they try to just do business as usual. I don't know. I eat. I've really, and I've said this before, it's like, are are we watching The Bachelor? kind of doing its like kind of death rattle for us.
Steve: And. I understand that. The issues with Taylor, Frankie, Paul that caused the season to be completely scrapped. That's crazy. uh in the sense that like it's a studio saying like we don't care like let's flush it that we're just as a tax write -off at this point Um,
Steve: And then you think about. All the things that have gone on. in this franchise and its various spin -offs. over the years. Whether it's... firing your host that you've had for God knows how long.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: Um. there was a whole thing with bachelor in paradise and corinne and and like questions of like consent and sexual assault and like like big stuff there's been people on the show that have done horrible things.
Sammi: mm -hmm
Steve: ah
Sammi: Horrible things.
Steve: Horrible things! God, Nick Viola is a podcast. I don't want to listen to that.
Sammi: ah There's just no just world where that happens.
Steve: uh is No, no. Sorry, Nick. I know you listen to us too.
Sammi: ah Our Waukesha fan.
Steve: I... our Our big Waukesha fan. I just think. It is. beyond comprehension to me that it's just going to come back business as usual.
Steve: I can't, I don't know what the franchise is at this point.
Sammi: her Yeah, I just don't know what to expect, really. But I would like to propose. that we transition to Soda Jerks for the fall and cover Secret Lives of Mormon Wives the way that we do for The Bachelor, I think we should.
Steve: Mm hmm. All for it. All for it. Yeah.
Sammi: I... I know that it's been popular. We've gotten good traction on the Mormon Wives episodes, and I think it'll at least keep us. semi -plugged into bachelor nation because there is like always that connection there so
Steve: Mm -hmm
Steve: Mormonism.
Sammi: That's. We're... Yeah. yeah
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: Yeah, Mormonism. So i think that that's I think that's the plan for the fall. The other plan that I have.
Steve: Yep.
Sammi: that I'm hoping to finish soon, although... And we should talk about like books, movies and all that stuff. I am like fully my friends have pulled me into. Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Sammi: So that's taking up a lot of my time.
Steve: Okay, yeah, yeah.
Sammi: Listen, I'm only on book two. But i some people I've been talking to are on book seven already. So I'm trying to like catch up.
Steve: Oh wow.
Sammi: ah You're aware of Dungeon Crawler Carl, right?
Steve: I am.
Sammi: I feel like most people, most people who are as online as you are aware of Tension Crawler, Carl.
Steve: Uh,
Steve: Yes, yes.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: In so much as I have not read any dungeon crawler.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: Carl, myself. ah But. The. number of people who have recommended it to me is absolutely astounding at this point
Sammi: Yeah, it's probably obscene. Yeah.
Steve: the the only reason i haven't checked it out is i'm just like seems like a few too many people are telling me to get into this but now ah like it's almost like it's like fish hooking back around right like i'm like i don't know.
Sammi: Nah!
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: These people think they know me and my interests.
Sammi: I get it. That's...
Steve: ah
Sammi: Yeah, i I get oppositional like that, too. um I totally do.
Steve: you
Sammi: That's what took me so long to watch K -pop Demon Hunters. But I did finally watch it like a month or two ago. And it was fun.
Steve: Mm hmm.
Sammi: um but If you like playing. Dungeony. games and you don't mind someone explaining. the idiosyncrasies of the games back to you.
Sammi: um and and going into great detail about how all the mechanics work. like you'll like it. I like it because there's a game I play that very much reminds me of it.
Sammi: And it's called For the King. uh the first one not the second one because i've heard the second one sucks but and i have not actually tried it because
Steve: oo
Sammi: I've heard it's not as good. But the first one is wonderful. And a lot of it has to do with like you're you're traveling across a map and you've got quests and. you're fighting, you know.
Sammi: gelatinous cubes and orcs and what whatnot. kobolds and And so it's very much like that. um And you get to kind of pick what your specialties are. and All those things. So it's very much in that vein. But anyway. So I'm trying to like extricate myself from that for a hot second. And um listen to the love producer because.
Sammi: boy are the reviews bad and I just I'm so curious about it. And that's the Peter Weber producer book. um Did we talk about that on the podcast? I don't remember if we did or not.
Steve: i don't recall if we talked about that one.
Sammi: Mm hmm.
Steve: I don't know if we did
Sammi: So, OK, this is what I know about the love producer so far. And I've seen people make like timelines and stuff that I also want to pull up. but Basically, it's one of the producers who was on who worked on the show when Peter Weber ah was The Bachelor.
Sammi: uh claims that they you know had this serious relationship together it sounds like she may have inflated it to be more than it was. ah And Peter has.
Sammi: not as far as i know peter hasn't talked about it a lot although i've tried not to look into it too much because i just kind of want to go into the book fresh uh but the reviews on the book are pretty bad and i don't know if it's because like the book is bad because people think she's a liar or because nick
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: picked it up as one of his pet projects to rally against. um because he's just like this slander and this is bullshit and people shouldn't have the right to do this and whatever
Steve: Yeah, yeah.
Sammi: I feel like the truth will likely lie somewhere in the middle. That like she probably did have a more serious relationship. Maybe not as serious as she said. It's probably in Peter's best interest.
Sammi: not to play it up too much. And. It's probably not all the way bullshit. like Nick says it is. Anyway. very interested because it's kind of like nobody has written a book.
Sammi: like that. about Bachelor Nation yet. um While I was looking up Bachelor Nation news also, I need to mention, because I know you're a 2B aficionado.
Steve: Oh, yes I am.
Sammi: Like quite. quite the watcher um there's apparently i don't know if you've seen this a movie called The Final Rose. That is a to -be original.
Steve: i love that i have not seen that i do love me some to be originals
Sammi: So. I am writing it down right now. Yeah.
Steve: ah
Sammi: So I think also um if you want to watch the final rose, that might be like a fun thing to do. We've also talked about. like finally talking about unreal and we haven't done that yet.
Sammi: So we should do that sometime too, but those are some of my bachelor.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: nation priorities, but we are here. I'll talk about a couple other bachelor nation news updates that I know about. We can talk about like. just general pop culture -y things.
Steve: Before we fully rebrand a Mormon plate special.
Sammi: because Yeah. Exactly. but Well, to. The Soda Jerks.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: We already have the branding Did you forget?
Steve: got we got the I just wanted to say Mormon plate special.
Sammi: We're the Soda Jerks. Yeah. I know you did.
Steve: I'm sorry.
Sammi: it's Okay. more we We should have been like the Mormon mormon sourdough special or something like that.
Steve: God.
Sammi: But. We have, oh my God, it's heavy. We have a fall jelly box to open and it's very heavy. Thank you, Jilly, for blessing us.
Steve: Oh, my gosh. did Did she did our favorite? ah member of Bachelor Nation send you a bowling ball this month?
Sammi: Apparently, Jilly said fall is for bowling. um You know, it's funny. i um I went in and got ah a new set of piercings. um a week or so ago.
Sammi: And my piercer, just like triple lobes, nothing super fancy. but my my piercer was really liked a pair of the earrings that i had in my like second Lobe hole. And they're like.
Sammi: gold wildflowers and she's like wow those are so cute and I was like okay I have to tell you where I got them and I was like okay
Steve: Mm hmm.
Steve: it's always fun it's like so there's this thing from canada
Sammi: So I'm like, so. Yeah, so like some... So I'm like really into The Bachelor in like an inappropriate way. Right. And you might not know that from looking at me, but just believe me, I am.
Steve: who
Sammi: And, you know, and there's this woman who was. ah you know, The Bachelorette. And she was also on The Bachelor. And um her nickname is Jilly. And she's got this box that she releases once a quarter. Uh,
Sammi: The people in my life who know how into this box I am kind of make fun of me because they're like, you know. Tuck has said, like... ah you know if jilly gave you golden crusted you'd be like wow this is so great And I said, but I actually really like and use a lot of the stuff in the box.
Steve: Yeah, you use the shit she gets
Sammi: Like there's multiple. There's multiple like baskets and things like that that I've used at art fairs.
Steve: mean
Sammi: I've been selling that. That's been my summer is like selling at art fairs. And. um Like she's got this robe that I use like. especially in the winter all the time and yeah her jewelry I had two different earrings that I got from Jilly in when I went into my piercer and she's like they're both so cute and I was like they came from Jilly so
Steve: no
Sammi: You know, it's like it's kind of norm core and I'm not really norm core, but I'm like, I feel like it provides good balance. And she's also like, you know, she's a piercer. So she's like. you know funky individual.
Sammi: And she was like, she was like, I totally agree with you.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: I love normcore stuff. Sometimes I'm like, I don't know what it is, but I just love like. it can be kind of basic but like i'm all about it i don't know
Steve: it's it's even better too because it's like
Sammi: it's really fun
Steve: Who in the year of our Lord, 2026. Has a subscription box service still. and it's like it comes and it comes from canada and it's from the bachelor and it's like
Sammi: Jilly.
Sammi: And it's popular, too. like
Steve: Yeah, but and and I would even say, like...
Sammi: She sells like 20 ,000 of them or something wild like that.
Steve: She's... but And she's not even like if if you were to like power rankings of like the most popular beloved bachelors, bachelorettes, whatever. She's not on. She's not like.
Steve: super high like everybody likes her but what like i was like oh my gosh yeah the you know the the bachelorette no one's like oh chilly like nobody
Sammi: But here's the thing. She is in Bachelor nation Nation circles, which is interesting.
Steve: Better.
Steve: Okay.
Sammi: Like people always talk about how nice she is when they meet her like at Bachelor Nation events. Like that was one of the things that Courtney talked about in her book. She said that Jilly was one of the only people who was nice to her.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: but It's weird because there's all these people. Who know her outside of The Bachelor. Because she was like. there. for when blogging got really big.
Sammi: And so she did all this lifestyle blogging and people just know her blog.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: And don't even think about her as being like someone from The Bachelor. Which is just so interesting. I know we talked about that, like, I don't know, a few episodes ago, maybe like the people who.
Sammi: Are. least associated. with The Bachelor these days. Like, you know, Rachel has a whole career outside of The Bachelor. I think there's plenty of people who know her outside of that context at that point. Allie Fedotowsky, I don't think anybody thinks about her as being from The Bachelor except for the people who were there when she was there. You know, I think they just think of her as like an entertainment.
Sammi: reporter. um And I think, and Jilly is similar. um Okay, I'm like, what is this? I think it's a pillow sham. Um,
Steve: I think I'm gonna switch to some more dramatic lighting behind me.
Sammi: What is it?
Steve: Hold on.
Sammi: Okay, while I open this, I don't i don't quite know what this is.
Steve: Let me see. That's what we have to do. wherere We're using...
Sammi: but it's
Steve: visual trickery to bring in listeners and viewers now. <unk> We're using visual trickery to bring in listeners specifically.
Sammi: Oh my gosh. I got to talk about visual triggering too. Yeah. Okay. So it's. it's a gingham cushion
Steve: o That's a little...
Sammi: Covering.
Steve: No, I look very washed out right now. We're going to go back to this.
Sammi: That's not bad.
Steve: It's okay. Oh, you're talking about my lighting? Are you talking about your gingham?
Sammi: Something's something.
Steve: ha
Sammi: so something It's giving this a very... um like fragrant smell. And I can't tell if it's like the cover or not, but anyway, this is a gang.
Steve: o
Sammi: and cushion cover. I don't know if I actually get the cushion though.
Steve: you don't get a I don't think you get a cushion.
Sammi: Puzzling.
Steve: You're getting that off ah Amazon for $19 .95, unfortunately.
Sammi: Puzzling.
Sammi: Well, I got to figure that out. We'll see. We'll see. um i can't Oh, this is what's making it smell like that. um so this is okay lavender we're not like a big lavender family although um There's a lot of other stuff in here.
Sammi: They're like bath crystals.
Steve: o
Sammi: Yeah. Um,
Steve: Not bath salts, I hope.
Sammi: No, bath crystals indulge in the purity of nature.
Steve: Whoa.
Sammi: um It's got.
Steve: whoe
Sammi: But it's got a bunch of other stuff, too. so I'd be willing to try it because it doesn't smell completely like lavender. um It's got sweet birch. clary sage, fir needle, cedar wood, and geranium as well.
Sammi: Pure Detox Bath Kretzels. crest bolts. Satay.
Steve: There you go.
Sammi: So. soak
Steve: You could soak and reflect.
Sammi: But I was like, what is that smell? I'm like, oh, it's that. That makes a lot of sense. I think this is kind of like tree themed or something.
Steve: oh
Sammi: Yep. What'd I tell you?
Steve: Dear Jilly box subscribers
Sammi: I actually really like these. who
Steve: Fall is the time where there's trees.
Sammi: There's trees. These are cute. Oh, the other thing that I got really into doing lately, and now I can't stop looking at things like this, is I've started making patterns.
Sammi: um I took a pattern making class in July and I got like super hooked on it and I was like this is so fun um so I've been like making patterns and putting them on spoon flower and I actually oh gosh do I have any I don't have any by me damn um I made this one that's like cherries and I printed out oh you may have received it
Steve: oh
Steve: I did receive it.
Sammi: Um,
Steve: i Yeah, I got it in the mail.
Sammi: Yeah. i I got fabric printed and wrapping paper and then then I used like pinking shears and cut a little sample out and gave it to my subscribers.
Steve: Also, i I love getting a physical letter from you.
Sammi: I know.
Steve: It's so nice. I feel like you're you're off at war. Like it's, you know.
Sammi: ah
Steve: 1863 and you're like dear steve i'm writing from you to you from the front lines i have provided a piece of cherry cloth pattern for you to review It's very nice.
Sammi: Yeah.
Sammi: it's you know what's fun is like okay so um so real quick before we go into that these are swedish just dishcloths. Have you used Swedish dishcloths before? They're very nice.
Steve: I have not. what What makes them so special?
Sammi: um So they've got like this. They've got this like... We've got a few of these at our house. they're They're like kind of stiff and then you wash them and then they become like dishcloths. And these have a little bit of. um grit to them so you can scrub a little bit and then you dry them and they kind of come back like this but they're basically instead of using like a bunch of paper towel or whatever you can use these like repeatedly um, to wash stuff.
Sammi: Um, so anyway, they're really nice.
Steve: Okay.
Sammi: I've got a bunch of them. Uh, they're compostable as well. So when they get really junky, it's all good.
Steve: Ooh.
Sammi: Um, But yes.
Steve: You can... Throw them in your garden. Yeah.
Sammi: Yeah, exactly. There you go. um So I. ah You know, I do a lot of archival research for school and I. I'm getting ah one of my new jobs this semester. I've got like.
Sammi: I don't even know how much I might be working full time at school. I'm not sure. Well, we're going to find out. We'll find out in a few weeks. um But one of the things I'm doing is like this.
Steve: We'll find out soon.
Sammi: I forgot what we're calling it, but basically oral histories for the department. um So I'm going to be like interviewing a bunch of people in the department and alums and things like that to kind of gather the history of.
Sammi: the department. So of course, leave it to someone who like. you know, history is a major part of their dissertation. you know, to like. typewrite letters and mail them out and, and all of that. But my favorite part is when I get typewritten letters back. That's.
Sammi: been really fun or like, or not typewritten. Sometimes people just handwrite or whatever, or like they, or they'll send me like a sticker in the mail or something. like I think that's really cute.
Steve: That's nice.
Sammi: So that's been really fun. um So yeah, that was a fun little, ah I finally got those out to everybody. including the the pattern. But yeah, it was so fun to take that class. I was just like.
Sammi: I never. thought about. making a pattern and and it was like a ten dollar class and now I've made like seven of them and I'm like this is so fun and when I need to like get out of my head and kind of like
Steve: There you go.
Sammi: break myself out of a creative rut. I just make a pattern. now. Which makes sense.
Steve: Nice.
Sammi: It's very on brand for me.
Steve: It's very on brand for you.
Sammi: I don't know why I didn't think of it before. but
Steve: Because you're too busy doing 10 ,000 other things.
Sammi: Here we are.
Steve: That's why.
Sammi: Yeah, selling art all over the damn place including Duluth, Minnesota, which is very windy and very difficult.
Steve: Ah.
Steve: i Love Duluth.
Sammi: Love, Duluth.
Steve: It's so nice. It's so good.
Sammi: It was a really great. fair. um Another thing I've been this is like Sammy's promoting her own work. time well whatever You're listening. Um, you're watching. So another thing I've been doing is like, so I do a, I do a bunch of like paintings and stuff. And then I have prints. Um,
Sammi: And I've also and I do. Like I hire. I work with like a print company to do the big ones, but for the small ones, I use my printer at home because. it's quite high quality so this is like a mini print that I have or like you know something like this and these are all like small versions of my paintings.
Steve: Mm hmm.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: And I've gotten really into. I've been a little addicted to Poshmark. I need to. cool that a little bit. But I've been going to like thrift stores and Poshmark and eBay. And then and like this was like a set of four like. frames like that i got this one is my favorite it's like very y2k
Steve: Oh yeah.
Sammi: Very.
Steve: That's very Y2K.
Sammi: oh i just love it i the really special one's gonna go in here um i've got this one that's like
Steve: ah
Sammi: Like a heart. you know.
Steve: who
Sammi: uh very 90s um but like I've been really obsessed with like pairing. a painting with a frame and then selling them i sold like 12 of them in duluth
Steve: Whoa. whoa Okay, Duluth.
Sammi: Yeah, people were like. This is so good. This is the best thing ever. um And now that it's spooky season, I've started to do some original. Ghost. pieces and one of my friends just texted me and said i would like to buy some of your ghosts please i said
Steve: o
Sammi: Do you want them to do anything specific? do you
Steve: What would what was you like from your ghosts?
Sammi: theres what What pose would you like? Would you like a... What size? I'm happy to. But it's been a very creative summer.
Steve: That's awesome.
Sammi: I felt very. creatively inspired. um and And then I'm going to get refreshed with the Sanzi Super Serum. I love this bottle. It's like got that milky.
Sammi: I don't even know. if It's got like that milky. Feel to it, you know like
Steve: Oh, is it it's it's is it like...
Sammi: It's like
Steve: Glass?
Sammi: Frosted.
Steve: or Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sammi: Yeah, it's glass. It's like a frosted glass. It's got like a really nice texture and the branding is very nice. and i I hope it's, it's.
Steve: What is it? Is it like a face serum or what?
Sammi: a It's a hydrating serum, yeah, for your face.
Steve: it Ooh.
Sammi: Apply one pipette. Twice daily to skin.
Steve: whoa
Sammi: But I just the packaging is really good So. and i'm
Steve: High quality stuff.
Sammi: what for packaging have you done any what What have you done this summer? Okay, we're in school. you know It's like the first day of school and you got your new outfit on and then you have to get up in class and you have to share like what...
Sammi: what your favorite thing is yet you did this summer i mean there's still summer left
Steve: oh Wow.
Sammi: I don't want to rush us.
Steve: There's still summer left.
Sammi: But what was your favorite thing this summer?
Steve: I don't know I think. Oh God, I've just worked too much. So that's kind of a problem. But.
Sammi: i
Steve: Some fun things. I think. One of the most fun things that I've done is... I am doing a limited podcast series.
Sammi: o
Steve: with. a mutual friend of ours, Ryan. And it's called Making the Stan.
Sammi: Okay.
Steve: And it's all about. the reality show Making the Band and how the band...
Sammi: Oh yeah.
Steve: or Danity Kane came together.
Sammi: Of course, it's Danity Kane that makes that's very on brand.
Steve: uh because Because you know Ryan, yeah. Ryan is the number one. Danity Kane fan in the universe.
Sammi: Yes.
Steve: and yeah this is this is what happens if when you when you're a gay man and you turn 30 you get assigned a defunct girl group or pop star.
Sammi: Absolutely.
Steve: uh that you have to obsess over and and just like
Sammi: Mhm.
Steve: Just tell everyone you know that.
Sammi: defend forever.
Steve: yeah defend forever exactly like this is this is like you know bb rexa is just like she's getting there she'll be there soon you know things like that anyway
Sammi: Yeah.
Sammi: She's on the way up forever.
Steve: up On the way up forever. Perpetually almost there. But. What are you going to do? Anyway, it's really cool because.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: I was aware of the show making the band. I didn't watch. making the band.
Sammi: Oh.
Steve: three which is the one with dandy kane
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: ah It's double interesting because the show is hosted by. He did he? And that makes it weird.
Sammi: Yep. Yep, yep, yep.
Steve: uh
Sammi: That makes sense because she featured. um Aubrey. Audrey?
Steve: Yep. Aubrey O'Day.
Sammi: Aubrey.
Steve: Aubrey O'Day.
Sammi: Aubrey O'Day.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: She featured prominently in that one Diddy documentary.
Steve: Yeah.
Steve: Yep. yep Yep.
Sammi: Mm hmm.
Steve: So there's like that weird connection. uh and It's... so fun to watch I mean, we talk about like The Bachelor as. an early aughts kind of vanguard for competition reality and what it looks like outside of something like Survivor or something like that. But but like. I don't know, like more focused.
Steve: And you watch something like. making the band season three which came out in 2003, 2004, whatever. And it is. Absolutely jarring. Like how there's no.
Steve: just grammar for what good storytelling is for these things.
Sammi: Right.
Steve: And it genuinely seems like they're making up what the show is on the fly. and it's almost invigorating it's like turning competition reality shows into jazz you know like
Sammi: Interesting.
Steve: bachelor bachelor is just like you know what's gonna happen It's going to, it's, it's just like, it's a four, four beat. Just but but up ah it's, it's the same thing.
Sammi: so formulaic yeah
Steve: And. You know, and even at the end when they're like, and one of the most dramatic blah, blah, blahs ever. And you're like, well, it's going to be good, but like, let's not like push it.
Sammi: sometimes Sometimes it is, but a lot of the times it's not.
Steve: and Sometimes it is good. sometimes And you always know. And like, they have certain ways of like misdirecting you and like. you know the way they edit so that you want to watch the next episode.
Steve: And. And you, you kind of understand the rules of how it's working, right? Like you don't have to watch too much to be like, okay, so this guy is dating these girls.
Sammi: mm -hmm
Steve: And then, you know, you have the ceremony and then somebody goes home and somebody says. Making the band is chaos. It's just like. There's... All kinds of stuff happening at any point. Someone just walks in and is like, you're cut. And then all of a sudden they have like a ceremony, which is like, we're going to pick people to go home. And it's like.
Steve: Where did this come from? And then
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: Then they go five more weeks and there's no ceremony like that. But they're still randomly just like, ga get out of here.
Sammi: You should leave now.
Steve: It's nuts. It is absolutely nuts.
Sammi: That's fun.
Steve: and They're not interested. In. long -term storytelling or even establishing characters at any point.
Sammi: hu
Steve: So it's utter chaos. Sometimes... it It drags because... Again, it's not. it's not functional It's like a storytelling vehicle.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: But other times you're like, whoa, my God, I can't believe this is happening. Plus just the fashion. My God. There's so much like... just wet seal going on here for the every millennial just is like yeah
Sammi: I loved Wet Seal. Listen, that was my store.
Steve: Yeah.
Steve: For those of you that are
Sammi: Half my wardrobe was wet seal.
Steve: For our younger listeners, it's just like, hey, kids, are you 14 and a girl and you want to push your school dress code to the absolute limit without getting in trouble?
Sammi: Hehehehe. Yeah.
Steve: that's That's what it is.
Sammi: My favorite shirt I got from wet seal had just like a bunch of graphics all over it I've got there's a lot of pictures of me in it because I was obsessed with it But in like big letters in the front like it just it was like neat It was like a black shirt with like neon writing all over it and drawing all over it.
Sammi: and This is not shocking Look at what i'm wearing. This is all obvious and
Steve: You know what I'm saying?
Sammi: they And right at the top it said, gag me with a spoon. And I was like, yeah.
Steve: I don't know.
Sammi: Gave me with a spoon. So cool. So 80s. I love it. So yeah, I was like, and then I was wearing like, and I had shorter hair than this.
Steve: That's great.
Sammi: I mean, I did get a haircut too c since you left. And I had like those like clips. You know, those like plastic. bow clips.
Steve: h Like the barrette type things.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: like
Sammi: Yeah, very. you know. scene adjacent I would I would consider myself to be seen adjacent I didn't quite have the hair but I had
Steve: the
Steve: I think so.
Sammi: Good hair. um but it wasn't quite. seen. But it was. close. Anyway. Good times.
Steve: But yeah, so it's called, anyway, it's called Making the Stand.
Sammi: ah and Making the stand.
Steve: You could find it on like, you know. Spotify, wherever you listen to this stuff. uh there's a there's a tick tock we got tick tock we got instagram I did say that I would get a... Danity Kane tattoo.
Steve: If we got to 10 ,000 followers, so.
Sammi: Cool.
Steve: Please contribute.
Sammi: There you go. Well, we should have some stakes.
Steve: I'm a tattoo -free man. let's talk normie over here
Sammi: You're... You're tattoo free? I didn't even realize that.
Steve: Yeah, which at this point.
Sammi: Do you remember when we got matching tattoos though?
Steve: Oh, yeah, at the State Fair. on our arms.
Sammi: Sassy tattoos.
Steve: it's just like glittery sassy tattoos i would actually get that on my arm for real probably
Sammi: That is so I would, too. OK, if you ever want. OK, that's what we'll get if we get.
Steve: If we get $10 ,000, we get the exact tattoo from that photo of us from like 10 years ago.
Sammi: I don't know it's Yeah, 10 ,000. Sure. Yes. Yes. Rainbow sassy tattoos. Oh my God.
Steve: Yes, yes.
Sammi: Oh, my God. Be amazing.
Steve: 100%.
Sammi: OK, I love it. OK, that's that's decided. OK, so your marching orders are clear.
Steve: That's what we're doing.
Sammi: If you're not already, follow us on TikTok and then follow making the stand. Hi. I may have watched like snippets of the Danity Kane season.
Sammi: I was there for the O -Town season.
Steve: Oh yeah.
Sammi: That's what I was there for. That was a very big deal in our household. I'm sure my mom is yelling at the podcast right now.
Steve: Oh yeah.
Sammi: Like, what about O -Town?
Steve: Yeah. yeah That was... I love Ashley Parker Angel!
Sammi: That was such a weird.
Steve: All right.
Sammi: thing to happen.
Steve: who I love the hubris of the show.
Sammi: O -town was so weird. Yes.
Steve: Like, it started off on ABC. And then it spun into and got really big kind of with. uh the the mtv version so like abc just took the the first season and then mtv took it over
Sammi: Mm hmm.
Steve: um like but But, like, just... someone like MTV basically being like Our entire thing has been. curating culture. and telling you what's cool and what's good and you've listened like they they were which is so funny to think now but basically it's like if it was on mtv that That was the popular thing.
Steve: Congratulations.
Sammi: It was relevant.
Steve: Here you are. Let me serve it to you.
Sammi: Mm hmm.
Steve: It's relevant. ah More so than like radio or anything else at that time.
Sammi: Oh, 100%.
Steve: And. like the hubris of MTV to just be like Well, you know instead of curating culture we're going to create the thing We're just we're just going to make it for you.
Steve: and then to have that entire mechanism behind it so it's like not only are you creating danity kane But. You. have the machine. that makes Danity Kane.
Steve: the thing that everybody wants to listen to which is is just wild to me
Sammi: mm -hmm
Steve: So yeah, it's it's it's really interesting just from like a... and That kind of production side of it.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: Yeah, who's who's talking about making the band? and 2026 we are it's great yeah it's good it's good yeah
Sammi: You are. You are. It's like, it's like the babysitter's club podcast.
Steve: Mm hmm.
Sammi: You know, I really enjoy that.
Steve: Yeah. It's... This is, yeah, this is, ah yeah, you guys think I only watch contemporary trashy reality type TV shows? Oh, well. Jokes on you.
Steve: I go back.
Sammi: Jokes on you.
Steve: decades.
Sammi: um The trash knows no limits.
Steve: Mm hmm.
Sammi: um Okay, so I got another lavender thing, but it's lavender and eucalyptus, and I actually can't really smell the lavender.
Steve: Oh, well that's good.
Sammi: Because otherwise...
Steve: I like eucalyptus.
Sammi: I like eucalyptus.
Steve: That's a good one.
Sammi: I wouldn't be, but in small doses. I can't have it around the house because it makes my eyes blow up if it's everywhere, but I i will, I'm going to give this a shot. It's a spa and shower mist, and it's a sacred blend designed to enhance.
Steve: Sacred.
Sammi: your spaces.
Steve: just Okay.
Sammi: I was like you're what?
Steve: My chi, my chakra, just my space.
Sammi: Or I missed. Or I missed.
Steve: Ooh. or amiss.
Sammi: um Listen, I'll be perfectly frank if these things. Do blow up my face. all i we have We have a buy nothing group that's very active. And i've because of the frames that I've needed, I've also... gained a lot of frames for free from neighbors so It's time for me to.
Sammi: Pay it forward. um What else? Uh... I feel like I've been watching. It's so funny. You and I like align on so many things. But when I look at Letterboxd, sometimes I'm like, oh, really?
Sammi: OK, but but I want to know.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: OK, so like. Favorite things you've watched movie -wise like this summer. Ooh, more Jilly Jewelry.
Steve: Oh.
Sammi: oh These are so cute.
Steve: That's a really good question.
Sammi: Okay, I'm very excited about these.
Steve: Of course, we were just talking about your jilly jewelry.
Sammi: Okay.
Steve: New earrings, new earrings.
Sammi: Sorry, these are so cute, though. they're a little They're little heart earrings, and they're really adorable. and they're I don't know what's in the middle of them, but they're but I'm sure she told me.
Steve: Lovely.
Sammi: ah Oh, Labradorite. I like Labradorite. They're really really cute.
Steve: Labrador, right? Like the dog Labrador.
Sammi: Well... Yes, that's what it's called.
Steve: Not the same Steve.
Sammi: It's not the same. But these are really cute because I'm like, I need more studs. I actually just ordered some on Poshmark because I have a problem. But these are really adorable. So I'm very excited about these. Okay. Now talk about movies. Sorry. Got excited.
Steve: So best.
Sammi: Are you looking up Labradorite?
Steve: and No, I'm looking at my letterbox to see.
Sammi: Oh.
Steve: I'm like, what are the what are the best things I've seen this summer?
Sammi: What?
Steve: It's so funny because I've barely seen new stuff.
Sammi: Or this year so far or whatever. Really?
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: Well, yeah, you watch a lot of old weird stuff.
Steve: Yeah, I'm very into old and weird.
Sammi: Oh, by the way, I'm really excited because I'm going to go see. um Oh my God. Shivers?
Steve: Oh, yeah, that's a fun one.
Sammi: Yeah, I'm going to go see Shivers this week and I haven't seen it. And like um they're playing it at a movie theater near me. And I'm trying to watch more classic body horror.
Steve: Okay.
Sammi: so
Steve: I like it
Sammi: I was really I'm really excited to go see that in the theater. I think that's going to be one to. to catch there.
Steve: yeah that's that's Yeah, Shivers is fun.
Sammi: That'll be fun.
Steve: it's um Because it's like so early Cronenberg, it's cool because you can see... If you're not familiar with David Cronenberg, he did... uh I don't know, the the Dead Zone and Shivers, Rabid, Videodrome. Bunch of stuff, bunch of cool stuff.
Steve: uh what i guess what would be his most famous movie like a history of violence i don't know eastern promises maybe but he but yeah he's known for his his body horror stuff and it's kind of cool to go back to the super super early stuff and uh
Sammi: Maybe.
Steve: Watch the exploding head meme in in real time. That's fun. So. That's good.
Sammi: Yeah, I'm very excited about it. Trying to see what I... i'm trying to sort my stuff. um Still I think my favorite movie of the year is Forbidden Fruits.
Steve: Okay. I have not seen that one.
Sammi: I still think. I still think it's my favorite. I think it's like.
Steve: I would say... we
Sammi: The campiest best thing I've watched in a long time. Very refreshing. Very good.
Steve: we We do we do agree on a lot of things so especially unlike like reality TV stuff. I feel like we're usually pretty aligned ah The movie thing is funny, though, because I think I just. I'm just so much more grumpy than you.
Steve: Like I'm just cynical about things.
Sammi: Yeah, you're more grumpy. You didn't like the invite. And I was like. I loved the invite.
Steve: How's it? it's fine
Sammi: I thought it was really good.
Steve: All right. I just can't. It's okay.
Sammi: But we agree on like Nirvana, the band, the show, the movie.
Steve: here's Here's the thing. Oh, Nirvana, because that's...
Sammi: You know what I mean?
Steve: Because it's perfect.
Sammi: like that's So that's like obvious.
Steve: Yeah, yeah. And.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: My only thing with the invite, and and this is because I because i i find a little, threat I'm a nitpicker. I just get the little. Mm.
Sammi: Sure.
Steve: Yank it. Uh, I can't. I can't deal with Seth Rogen anymore. It needs to stop.
Sammi: Hmm.
Steve: He's just
Sammi: see i really like him i'm sorry i also like that he does pottery i like his sweaters
Steve: I... I like him too. I want to hang out with him. I would love to hang out with him.
Sammi: I just think he's so sweetie.
Steve: But... What is his range? Because you look at everybody else in that movie, like what Olivia Wilde's doing or, you know, like everybody's like kind of like.
Sammi: Hmm.
Sammi: I think she did such a great. I i really I think the Olivia Wilde hate is so forced.
Steve: Yeah, she's great.
Sammi: It really drives me nuts.
Steve: Mm hmm.
Sammi: I don't think.
Steve: She's really pushing yourself in that movie.
Sammi: Her aligning with Shia LaBeouf was cute, but like I think she's a really good actor.
Steve: I don't know. probably not
Sammi: I think she's a really good actor.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: So Seth Rogen.
Sammi: And a good drink.
Steve: Who does Seth Rogen play in every single movie?
Sammi: But here's the thing.
Steve: Yeah. That's Rogan.
Sammi: I like it. Sorry, but I like it though.
Steve: I was just like, Oh, hes that we got a wise cracking weed guy in this one. Jeez. I wonder.
Sammi: You know where You know where I think he pushed himself the most and nobody gives him credit? Maybe you'll disagree.
Steve: Okay, what's that?
Sammi: I think the green Hornet is. criminally underrated.
Steve: Okay. I have not seen the green Hornet.
Sammi: Have you watched it?
Steve: No, no.
Sammi: I think it's like, I don't know why it fell so flat. I feel like it was like a timing thing. It was kind of like a Zack and Miri make a porno timing thing.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: where it was just like, it's I think it's a very good movie. and I feel like nobody gave it like. in the in the timeline of what superhero movies were doing at that time.
Sammi: I feel like it just. I mean it came out after Like Iron Man and stuff.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: But it wasn't quite Iron Man -y either.
Steve: so
Sammi: And it's not like it's like Ragnarok or Guardians, but it's...
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: It's funny you know it's like but it's not as high energy maybe closer to deadpool but like less
Steve: Lethargic Deadpool.
Sammi: Less.
Steve: ah
Sammi: Ryan Reynolds -y, you know what I mean?
Steve: Yeah, everything should be less Ryan Reynolds, dude.
Sammi: And it's not even lethargic. That's the thing. He plays this like. you know, Rich. Kid. Who's inherited his dad's company. And then he's got to take on this responsibility and figure out like what the hell to do. So there's still that like kind of slacker element, but he's playing like a nepo baby, which is like a different kind of.
Sammi: slacker vibe than what he normally has. Anyway, I think it's really interesting. and And he did it because he's such a big fan of the Green Hornet. and I feel like you can tell that he really loves the character and like.
Sammi: worked really hard to make it good. and I don't know why it just didn't go anywhere.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: Anyway, I think it's one of the most different.
Steve: Uh -huh.
Sammi: types. of roles that he's taken on. and but people don't really. Talk about it anyway.
Steve: Huh. So, yeah, the the invite. i Seth Rogen, whatever. I definitely like chuckled at at some. things and you know it it wasn't it wasn't terrible it's not like i was watching it like ah but It just it just never kind of like.
Steve: escalated to the point that i wanted it to like i wanted it to either get really absurd or like it just it didn't really get there and then it kind of has this heartwarming ending it's like all right that's fine
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: Uh, But the and the other thing I kept thinking about because it's clearly i mean i looked it up afterwards but you're watching it you're like this had to be a stage play at some point it's like oh yeah it was a stage play and then it was a movie i think it was a mexican movie i want to say
Sammi: Oh yeah.
Sammi: Mm.
Steve: And.
Sammi: It's like very obviously a stage play, but not in the way that like.
Steve: Yeah, yeah.
Sammi: a marriage story feels like a stage play.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: Like.
Steve: I just need...
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: I need sickos. running the show here. Like I need like a David Mamet. Like I need someone who is just like an absolute just brain rotten sicko.
Sammi: it's very normal that's what I liked about it is that it's like so normal and I and it felt so real like it felt very real it was like one of the most real things I've watched in a long time and I really liked that
Steve: Yeah, no, I need sickos.
Steve: Mm hmm. Yeah.
Steve: I also think that there's a version of that movie that would have existed in the 1960s and it was made by either a French guy or an Italian guy. And it's just people smoking the entire time and yelling at each other.
Sammi: Oh yeah.
Steve: And I want to see whatever that is.
Sammi: It's just like it was that but like wine and pot
Steve: uh
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: So this is actually a good segue into what are some of the best things that. I've i've seen this year.
Sammi: Yeah what do you recommend?
Steve: So here's what I would recommend. Instead of... The invite. I want you to seek out a movie from 1994, and it is starring the late, great Tom Noonan.
Steve: And that movie is called What Happened Was. Okay. Setup is... There's a woman in New York and she is going on a date with a coworker. And the date is he's coming over to her apartment for the first date.
Steve: and she is cooking him dinner. And what transpires... is this. Awkward back and forth. tension filled. anxiety ridden, just totally.
Steve: surreal experience. I promise you, you will never see anything like it. You will never be enthralled more by two people basically just like sitting and talking to each other. Uh, It is.
Sammi: Better than my dinner with Andre.
Steve: It's different. My dinner with Andre doesn't have like the sexual politics.
Sammi: Thanks. You just said two people. Well, I don't know.
Steve: you know although Are those guys fucking?
Sammi: i've We watched it different.
Steve: As well as Sean fucking.
Sammi: They are into each other.
Steve: Yeah, I mean, maybe. What?
Sammi: They're intellectually, you know, no, just kidding.
Steve: Look. I mean, there's a My Dinner with Andre connection, too, because Wallace, Sean, and Tom Noonan are are buddies.
Sammi: Oh really?
Steve: They're friends. so he Yeah.
Sammi: Oh, that's so funny
Steve: So yeah, Tom Noonan, he actually, he passed away this year. He's a really great character actor. And the cool thing about him is he's really tall. He's really thin. And. He is considered like.
Steve: One of. the best just like pure actors out there. Like he's a guy who he's done tons of Hollywood stuff years ago. uh but he's someone that like people respect like when if someone's just like oh i'm an up -and -coming actor or actress and I need to.
Steve: you know, get my shit together. Basically they would send them to like Tom Noonan is a guy you would go to his acting classes. That's how good he is.
Sammi: a
Steve: and he is incredible in this and part of the reason why he's so good is because you look at him and he has like a naturally just kind of like threatening aura about him because just like He's got this goatee and he's. bald with like curly hair on the side and he's really tall and skinny. And he has this kind of like flat affectation to his voice. uh,
Steve: But then. as this sort of unfolds you find out that she's kind of a weirdo in a different way and by the time the movie reaches its climax it's just one of those things where you're completely like leaning into your television you're about to fall off the couch
Sammi: Hmm.
Steve: Incredible. Incredible. So if you want some like, ah you know, some sexual. ah politics drama just you know ah stagey kind of movie that that the invites you know if you like the invite it's fine it's fine but you're going to love what happened was. So watch that.
Steve: There you go.
Sammi: That's it. Speaking of total sickos.
Steve: Yes.
Sammi: um I did.
Steve: Tell me about a total sicko.
Sammi: I did watch. um Oh gosh, now what is that called? Now i I was sorting my letterbox and this did not make the top list by any means. but um I did watch ah the film. I didn't know that there was a film version of sexual perversity in Chicago.
Steve: Oh.
Sammi: And I kind of watched it on accident.
Steve: Ha!
Sammi: Because I was just like it was just
Steve: Well, you just... You were watching something on Tubi and it autoplayed?
Sammi: Well, it was like on Netflix or something like that, and it was just like the suggested next movie.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: And I was like, OK, it was like Jim Belushi, Demi Moore, Rob Lowe and. um Oh my gosh, why am I blanking on her name? Um...
Sammi: You know, she was in weeds and ah the Flintstones
Steve: Oh that lady. Yeah.
Sammi: the You know what I'm talking about? Anyway. So there's the four of them and I was like, this is interesting ah And yeah, now I can't remember what it's called. Now I'm looking it up. But anyway, I didn't know that there was a. uh, film version of sexual perversity in Chicago, but I've seen that play.
Sammi: because because you know film or because you know theater nerds. put that on a lot of the time. um Now I gotta find, there's a lot of movies that I've watched. recently that I don't like. Oh, about last night, about last night. I gave it a three. It was fine. Three's like, it's okay. It's fine for me. Um,
Sammi: I also i' now I'm like going through some of the old movies that I've watched. ah i'm looking at the things that got like four and a half stars i had never seen muriel's wedding
Steve: Oh, I love that movie.
Sammi: And I very much enjoyed it.
Steve: TM Sam's.
Sammi: Yeah. I love it. I, you know, like, ah and I unabashedly enjoy the Mamma Mia movies. I just think Abba's great also. And I think Mamma Mia 2 is better than mom the first one.
Steve: the waterloo scene sammy preach preach from the pulpit girl
Sammi: That's what I think.
Steve: good
Sammi: Waterloo scene is fucking good, man.
Steve: It's so good.
Sammi: um But yeah, so Muriel's wedding, I was like. This is so cool to see like young Toni Collette, because my first Toni Collette movie was about a boy in 2001.
Sammi: And so this was like 94. So this was you know well before that. And it was so fun to see her play. like she's so good at playing like unlikable or people you shouldn't like but you really enjoy
Steve: Yeah. Yeah.
Sammi: And that she's like nailed it in this movie. It's like, I know I shouldn't like you, but like, you're wonderful. And I want to watch everything that you do.
Steve: Yeah, that's... I think it's it's definitely in in my in my book.
Sammi: um so
Steve: It is the most underrated like romantic comedy of all time. And it's...
Sammi: Yeah, so good.
Steve: it's like a top 10 rom -com easy. It's so, so good.
Sammi: Ooh. Hmm?
Steve: What you get you?
Sammi: kind of nice. Okay, here's the next chili thing. It's like a... It's like a little slightly a little shelf.
Steve: Oh.
Sammi: And I might put this in my studio to display things on because I actually.
Steve: I would say I could display stuff on that.
Sammi: This actually will be good for fairs, too, because I have like. um like a riser that i've been putting stuff on but this will be nice for like
Steve: That looks like a rustic laptop riser. Like if you want to.
Sammi: yeah this will be nice for like bigger framed items um I'm always looking for like new display items for my um for my art fair stuff so this is great because it'll either go in my studio or elsewhere um but
Steve: Mm hmm.
Sammi: yeah this will get used for sure it's really nice um Okay. And I know I talked about this on like a previous episode, but whatever, you're going to hear it anyway. um The plague.
Sammi: I think everyone should go see the plague or like seek it out. Find a way to stream it.
Steve: Mm hmm.
Sammi: It's. That's in my top five for sure. Like forbidden fruits is like number one. The plague is probably number two. It's so good.
Sammi: And I just saw Tony. And I really loved Tony. And.
Steve: oh
Sammi: um and you know that's by the same director as nirvana the band the show
Steve: You're part of the band, the show. the The best movie of all time, yeah.
Sammi: The movie. Yeah. Yeah. So and people were like getting weird about it, you know, like possessive. I get it about Anthony Bourdain, like no one's going to do it right.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: I'm like, he'll be fine. He's really good at period pieces.
Steve: Yeah, also...
Sammi: Did you not watch Blackberry? Blackberry is amazing.
Steve: yeah and it and it can't be is that you you can't get mad about this because it's like yeah the the guy it's Blackberry is is a good. If you watch that, you're like, okay, he's gonna do this the right way.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: Also... It can't be any worse than the documentary about Anthony Bourdain where they like used. Like. fake AI voice to attribute stuff to him.
Steve: It was crazy.
Sammi: Ew. No, it was really good. Okay, so it's all about... His first summer. in Provincetown. when he like worked for a restaurant the first time. That's what it is. And it's. And to me. It's just a movie about. what it's like to be 19.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: It is 100%. a movie about being 19. And it felt viscerally 19 year old coded to me. And I loved it. And in a similar vein.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: The plague is very much about. what it's like to be going through puberty. um and trying to make friends. And forbidden fruit is like what it's like to be, I don't know.
Sammi: I guess like girl boss, I guess, uh, what it's like to be in your early twenties and engage in girlhood.
Steve: Ha!
Sammi: to varying degrees of success. ah So it's really good. It's... i I've... The movie that plays in my brain the most has been Forbidden Fruits. like That just runs in my brain on a constant loop. ah since I saw it. Um pillion if you want to hurt your own feelings You just want to cry a lot.
Steve: Do you want to cry a bunch?
Sammi: watch pillion god it's so good
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: If you just want to like pillion is all about ah that failed relationship that you really. He really wanted to make work. It just wasn't going to work.
Steve: ah
Sammi: Yeah, if you want to just hurt your own feelings.
Steve: Ooh.
Sammi: This I knew was coming because I had to pick. It's like a it's like a boyfriend court quarter zip, yeah.
Steve: Jilly Quarter Zip? Whoa.
Sammi: It's supposed to be like oversized.
Steve: whoa
Sammi: um but i try to size it down a little bit, but yeah. It's oatmeal colored. Very cozy For the season. um that's real nice I'm most excited about the earrings and that stand thing.
Steve: Very nice.
Sammi: That's really excellent.
Steve: Yeah, that's nice.
Sammi: Um. What else?
Steve: Oh, I watched something recently
Sammi: what
Steve: I watched a little movie called Hocum. It's from the director of Oddity.
Sammi: Oh.
Steve: I liked it.
Sammi: I...
Steve: Bunches added, even I liked it.
Sammi: i actually uh will be watching oddity i think tonight i like started it and then Kind of ran out of time. um Because I was watching other things. I actually watched Keeper and I was like.
Sammi: i Listen, I... like Oz Perkins more than a lot of people like Oz Perkins, but. I don't know That one kind of fell apart for me. I haven't watched Oddity, but I will. And I'm excited about it. I said, I think it would be such a great video game.
Sammi: I want to play that as a video game so bad.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: um I saw that that was my birthday movie this year because I always get to like cash in a movie on my birthday that Tuck will go see with me.
Steve: Mm hmm.
Sammi: And it tends I tend to pick horror movies. or very long movies. sometimes i pick things that i for sure know he'll like like Last year it was sinners. I was like.
Sammi: yeah you're like i had gone to see it and i was like this is one of the best movies i've ever seen in my life and i was like you're coming with me um A couple of years ago, it was everything, everywhere, all at once. ah We did Bo is Afraid.
Sammi: ah But for this year, I was like, let's do Hocum. and yeah i mean i liked the story I thought the filming was really interesting. The lighting definitely.
Sammi: created a lot of the mood. Um... But I thought it would just be such a great video game. That's what I just kept thinking.
Steve: The.
Sammi: There's certain movies that I'm like. This one.
Steve: The thing that stuck out to me... is and it And it doesn't really get humming. until about halfway through and then that's that's where it really kicks in
Sammi: Mm hmm.
Steve: Um, But what I liked the most about it was we're kind of. Entering this weird era. where... A lot of the filmmakers.
Steve: who are up and coming now fall into one of two categories which is non -traditional path aka youtube guys
Sammi: Mm hmm.
Steve: So this is this is, you know, this gives you...
Sammi: Did you see the back rooms?
Steve: Yeah, i like I like backrooms. Yeah, backrooms.
Sammi: I thought it was really good. yeah
Steve: Yeah, that's that's one of my other favorites from this year so far. I like backrooms. yeah You've got obsession. uh who is it god what i forget the name of the movie but uh markiplier the streamer guy he made a move talk yeah iron lung talk about a movie that is just like oh this is just a video game and then you're like it's based on a video game i'm like i think he just made the video game but it's a movie and i like it because
Sammi: Oh, so good.
Sammi: Yes. I've seen it. Iron Lung.
Sammi: I have seen him. I mean, well, because he was obsessed with the video game.
Steve: Mm hmm.
Sammi: so much that he made it into a movie and it's, it's a good video game and they added some really interesting new elements to the movie.
Steve: Yeah, you just made it. Yeah. It was great.
Steve: Mm hmm.
Sammi: to expand the video game, which I really liked anyway.
Steve: so You've got that kind of side of things and the other thing is is you have these guys who have grown up And their nostalgia is for.
Steve: Like. like mid -aughts to early 2010s horror. which was... dominated by stuff like... the hostel films
Sammi: mm -hmm
Steve: and you know uh over in europe you had this movement it's called like new french extremism and it was just like All of these French guys just making. affectionately called gorno films but just like a lot a lot of gore just like like shocking amounts of violence
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: And then, you know, the the hostile films are. they got labeled like torture porn here in the, in the United States because like, okay, there's no story.
Sammi: Mm hmm.
Steve: You're just like watching a guy get hurt and that's it. Now you have filmmakers who are influenced by that. And what you're starting to see is you're starting to see people like. Evil Dead Burn, which I did not enjoy.
Steve: uh But.
Sammi: o I haven't watched it yet
Steve: part Part of the reason why I didn't enjoy it is because... It's sense of humor feels. off relative to It's. obsession with like brutal violence Uh, And you're seeing a lot of that.
Sammi: ah
Steve: like like Obsession 2. There's some like really... Grizzly. gory, goopy stuff. And it's not like I don't like that. But... When you watch Hokum.
Steve: The thing that sticks out the most to me is it's tense and it's scary. And it gets really interesting. and it's You know, it's got this like kind of a great lore behind it or whatever.
Steve: There's no gore. There's none. like there's there's
Sammi: Hmm.
Steve: Almost like no violence whatsoever. It's all just mood.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: And I love that.
Sammi: It's all suggestion and yeah.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: it's It's a complete... Like. Just push back against what is very. popular right now. So felt it felt really refreshing, but it's good. Yeah. Again, like I like to add any more, but ah how come it's fun.
Steve: this This is a good spooky movie. you got You got people who are like, I don't like blood in the movies.
Sammi: I thought it was good.
Steve: say but I can't watch horror. Shut up. You can watch Hocum. Yeah.
Sammi: I actually thought Obsession was really good in terms of the level of gore, but maybe I'm getting desensitized by watching too much body horror.
Steve: Could be. I think that's what you're doing.
Sammi: but like What did you say?
Steve: I said I think that's what you're doing.
Sammi: No, I didn't. I thought it was like purposeful, though. You know what I mean? Like I don't like hostile at all. i well I don't like Eli Roth at all, but I don't like hostile at all. And um that's that's not my kind of movie, really. um But I did think that.
Sammi: It was. it felt very purposeful in and not to give away anything, although I feel like it's been like discourse to death, but.
Steve: Oh my God, yeah.
Sammi: Um, Yeah, it's like.
Steve: It's like, who hasn't seen it? stated
Sammi: It's like, okay, I get it. I get it. But I think, I think it was like done very well. Now I have to say like, in terms of like. gory stuff.
Sammi: You know, yeah, like and like I like the body horary stuff. better like I still think Infinity Pool is like one of the coolest movies in terms of like.
Sammi: It's like gross and weird. but it makes sense. The substance obviously is in my top four. Like I think it's just, it's all very purposeful. It's like, it makes perfect sense why everything there happened.
Sammi: um Other movies that have like really stuck with me. I think I talked about this. Last time too. Send help. If we're talking about Evil Dead, like Sam Raimi. is so good and send help i think is so good and i and also i like that it's it Again, like, invite. the Like the invite, it's real.
Sammi: um it's a little wacky because sam raimi is always wacky like i think drag me to hell is so good but like it's wacky in a way that's very grounded and it's very like I love.
Sammi: the horror of corporate. America. Just like.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: You know. on a deserted island.
Steve: Yeah, I i like Sun help too.
Sammi: So good.
Steve: I I wasn't like over the moon about it, but I was like, yeah, this is good. like let's I was like, Sam Raimi is just, he's just having a good time.
Sammi: Oh I thought it was so fun.
Steve: Like you could tell he's just like, I just want to do something for me.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: uh the coolest thing about it though and this is another thing you don't you don't see as much anymore is ah You know, fucking film nerds are always like, ooh, auteurs and blah, blah, blah. It's like, you want you want proof that, like... auteurs or it's a real thing Send help is the ultimate.
Steve: experience because If anyone else makes that movie. It is a fraction. as good as it is because All the little, like, goofy, raimy flares.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: are what... make it so special. because... he just like he's able to take something that's like scary or serious and then the counterpoint to that is his like three stooges style like physical
Sammi: Mm hmm.
Steve: humor and the and the way that he he shoots scenes. And. That is what makes it special. And that's what like makes the the wacky tone of send help just kind of work. And I think.
Steve: Anyone else who tries to do that, it's not going to work. Great example. Um, you know, all these like newer Evil Dead movies. um
Sammi: Right. That's why I wanted to bring up send help.
Steve: some some better than others right like but nobody has figured it out no one's figured it out it's like
Sammi: Yeah.
Sammi: Because he he had the right mix of.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: gore and like humor and action and yeah like he just Like nobody makes them like I really I mean, Sam Raimi is one of my favorite directors.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: I just think he's so good all the time.
Steve: I... And this is why kids go out there and...
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: and experience a diverse body of media and and let weird things. influence the other stuff that you make but don't draw a direct line and what i mean by that is Sam Raimi made the original Evil Dead.
Steve: And he was influenced by. watching a lot of the three stooges okay he just loved the three stooges Uh, Now. Guys that are making Evil Dead remakes now.
Steve: they didn't They never watched The Three Stooges. They watched Evil Dead. So it's different. You know what I mean?
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: like
Sammi: Well, and that was the other group that I thought you were going to mention when you mentioned YouTube people. I thought you were going to say. comedy nerds because a lot um and that's me being a horror geek right now is like Comedy nerds are making some of the best horror.
Steve: Mm hmm.
Sammi: Right now. period you know like it's been so fun to see you know, like this guy from the whitest kids you know make these awesome fucking like i can't wait to see what he does next
Steve: That's it. so weird so Also.
Sammi: It's so good.
Steve: And he's the type of guy too, where it's like, he's a, he's a comedy nerd guy.
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: And why does kids, you know, it was a, it was a. TV show from. years and years ago if you if you're not familiar with it's super funny But. If he would have been born. 10 years later he totally would have been and a youtube guy right like like all of his stuff would have been
Sammi: Well, and that's you know, and that's kind of like obsession. It is like comedy YouTube because he did a lot of sketches and stuff like that before before doing obsession. And then obviously there's like Jordan Peele, Danny McBride's written. He's co -written on Halloween. Like it's so I don't know. And that's.
Sammi: And that's the thing I think a lot of people miss. is like. There needs to be. those tension releases, that's what makes horror.
Sammi: good in my opinion it can't be i mean unless you're doing something like smile which is like Oh, my God. Like I still haven't seen Smile 2. I do want to watch it. But like that's one of the most oppressive movies I've ever seen in my life. Like I was just like it does not let up. It does not give you a break. It does not make you feel good for a second. And you have to like. go in and be mentally ready for that but like I think the reason like Megan hit so well as it did in my opinion and I think Megan is a fantastic
Sammi: horror film is it's so fucking funny you like it's just like you're like what why is she just singing out of nowhere like what the hell
Steve: Yeah, yeah No, yeah you're you're definitely right
Steve: And it's like...
Sammi: It's so good.
Steve: a Like what you're talking about, that idea of like creating tension and then the release of the tension and then kind of like bringing it back in. There's like real. psychology behind that it's the same reason why if if you look at like Frank Lloyd Wright architecture like he has this whole thing where when you first enter a doorway it's very narrow and then the room kind of opens up to you and it's the same idea it's literally like it compresses you and then releases you
Sammi: ah
Steve: And it just feels good walking into a room. And. it's the same thing with horror movies i agree that completely like you you have to you have to have that that little bit of balance and you can still be meaning to be grisly it can still be like super tense the whole time but you need to have little moments so people can step back because
Sammi: Yeah.
Steve: If you don't. let people have that little downtime. then... All you're doing is sort of. I don't know, you're like numbing them. to the tension you're creating.
Steve: So you have to remind them that, oh, you you can feel good first. Just a little second.
Sammi: Like Ari Aster, I think is also really good at that.
Steve: just like Yeah.
Sammi: Like, I think there are like little moments where you're like, what the fuck?
Steve: Mm hmm.
Sammi: Like, you know what I mean? Like, like when, like in midsummer when everyone's high and it's just kind of fun for a second, you know, and you're like, okay.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: I mean, it's a very Ari Aster creates very oppressive environments. I would say that that's I mean, to me, that's kind of the difference between. a movie like Midsommar or like um Talk to me.
Sammi: I love to talk to me.
Steve: Mm hmm.
Sammi: But. That also, I mean. there's There's a couple lighter moments in that, I guess. Bring her back.
Steve: Not a lot of light moments in that one.
Sammi: oh my god that like was really a hard watch it was good I liked it but I was like oh man I really do like I think that's why I get I
Steve: Yeah. What?
Sammi: I'm drawn so much to like horror done by comedy people. think It's exactly what I want.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: yeah
Steve: Yeah, there you go.
Sammi: i don't know why this turned into a horror podcast but i'm all
Steve: it's It's a horror podcast now. Because you're like, you're like what got what great movies did you watch?
Sammi: Well.
Steve: I'm like, well, the only new movies I've seen are horror movies and everything else I watch is old and obscure.
Sammi: I'm promoting the horrors persisted. We are working on branding right now. It will be launched soon.
Steve: There you go.
Sammi: So get ready for that. And also, okay. And the movie that I tell everybody to watch this year too is. Good luck. Have fun. Don't die. I think it's so good.
Sammi: It's another one of those movies that like. I feel like got kind of underplayed. You can catch it on Hulu now, which is great. And it's Sam Rockwell, who doesn't love Sam Rockwell.
Steve: o
Sammi: um
Steve: no
Sammi: It stars Sam Rockwell.
Sammi: And ah it's all about AI. And it's kind of it's kind of black mirrory with like comedy and bonkers shit and whatever. It's time travel. You know, we got to save the world before this big AI thing takes over and ruins everybody's lives. what ah um And it's got some really great emotional re resonance. So even though it was like silly at the end of the movie, I was crying and I've seen it like three times now and I still really enjoy it. um so
Sammi: Definitely, if you haven't. I feel like it got like middling reviews. I watch it. At a very like. I don't know, emotionally raw moment for the first time.
Sammi: And I was just like, oh, my God, we have to save ourselves. um So it was. very, very good. you haven't seen that though right i don't think
Steve: I have not. I have not.
Sammi: Yeah. That and I love boosters, I think are very good. They're zany, but they have very good. messaging underneath them Boots Riley's shit is so weird um and you just have to be like okay like it's way weirder than good luck have fun don't die but it's all you know anti -capitalist and um
Sammi: what i got really excited about at the end now here's the theater nerd and me is that i I was like looking through Boots Riley stuff because I'm like, I know he hasn't like produced a ton of material. Like he's got a TV show called I'm a Virgo. um that i've watched a little bit and it's also equally weird because it's about this kid who like
Sammi: grows to be giant and he kind of like lived in this like sheltered world with his parents so like his you see him as like a teenager experiencing life for the first time and he's like huge i mean like i don't even remember how tall like 14 feet tall or something like that's like you know
Steve: like Honey, I blew up the kid.
Sammi: Um. Yeah, like it's it is like that. And so. um But he's like learning that like, oh, there are certain things you kept from me, even though there's like no reason you should have kept that from me. And like and it's like and you can't control him because he's so big. He could just squish you. So like, you know. What do you do anyway? um But he is um adapting.
Sammi: the play. mr burns and i am very excited i don't know if you know anything about mr burns
Steve: I do, I do
Sammi: But. it You do?
Steve: Yes. i Yeah, I didn't.
Sammi: Have you seen it?
Steve: No, I haven't seen it but I'm familiar with it. I i didn't know they were going to do a film ad.
Sammi: It's really good
Steve: That's crazy.
Sammi: I'm so excited. Yeah, I'm like if anyone could do it. Boots Riley can do it. like
Steve: Absolutely.
Sammi: There's like, you know, there's certain people that you're like, I don't want anyone else to really touch this. But like, so for. Those who don't know this. the basic premise of Mr. Burns. And I was lucky enough to see this a number of years ago um as like. a play that took place.
Sammi: in different parts of a building. So like you'd watch a scene and then you'd walk somewhere else and you'd get to see another scene. And it's set in this post -apocalyptic world where there's like no electricity and and whatever. and So one of the things that becomes valuable, this is what I remember, is like people's ability to tell stories. And there's somebody who was able to like, and I guess the playwright actually.
Sammi: wrote a lot of the script. By asking people to recount. this episode of The Simpsons for Memory, which is Cape Fear, which is one of the best. episodes of The Simpsons to ever.
Sammi: Be written.
Steve: oh yeah
Sammi: And so that's the episode that they're doing. And over time, you see how... The retelling of. This episode.
Sammi: like changes and morphs and it kind of becomes this like Greek play with you know like greek chorus type of a thing and it's very dramatic it's very interesting um but it's yeah it's really a weird a weird cool play it's one of my favorite things i've ever gotten to see because i really like experiential theater where like
Sammi: Yeah, it's like they're kind of playing with the space that you're in and where you go and what you do. And I've seen a lot of. shit like that in my day. And so. That is a movie I'm very excited whenever that comes out.
Sammi: Oh my gosh. I will be I'll be set.
Steve: it's like catnip for you
Sammi: I'll be right there. It's just like, yeah, I mean, really, if you the the movie that was the most Sammy coded this year was definitely forbidden fruits. I mean.
Steve: Oh very much so. Yeah.
Sammi: Like unbelievably.
Steve: Like. when i was watching it i and i i didn't love it as much as you but i was watching it and like this is the most sammy ass movie like
Sammi: I know.
Sammi: It is the most Sammy movie. I mean, it's like it's like we took Heathers and Jawbreaker and Mean Girls and Mall Slashers and, you know, witchy shit.
Steve: he
Sammi: and We put it all in one movie. And I still have the question of. if it um There's... This book that I think is on the counter at the store. I need to rewatch it um and I Think it was youth juice.
Sammi: The book Youth Juice, which is so good because I've been reading a lot of horror books. We'll close. We can close with. here's my book recommendations.
Steve: Yeah.
Sammi: um I've been making my way through a couple. Okay. I'm reading like a million books at once. It's really bad. I got to stop doing that, but I'm never going to change. Listen.
Steve: Nope.
Sammi: But I'm currently reading.
Steve: On brand.
Sammi: I'm currently reading this book. It's called For Human Use, and it's about like the startup that rents out cadavers to put in people's homes.
Steve: oh
Sammi: Also, just I need you to appreciate my. Jesus bookmark that says, is that smut? Anyway. Um...
Steve: I like that
Sammi: Thank you to Inkwell Booksellers, one of my favorite places to go get books. ah They have great free bookmarks, but it's a super weird book so far. And I'm only like, you know, this far through it. And I'm like, I don't know where it's going to go from here. But there's a lot of conversations about like, is it necrophilia or or what are you doing? And do they have agency? And is it legal? What do you think?
Steve: God.
Sammi: um So it's like it's like the corporate startup nightmare, like times a million. You know, it's like it's like companion, but ah more depressing. I don't know.
Sammi: so
Steve: o
Sammi: Really good. I've also I'm also. reading at the same time uh the eyes are the best part which i wish i had next to me because it's got i've got the one that has like like cool pages. Like it's got eyeballs all over the pages and blood and stuff like that. um But um all I know is it's like a. body horary. movie and it starts with us like korean family and um
Sammi: the mom gets left. uh and she kind of like starts to. I don't know, lose it a little bit. But she's really into eating fish eyes at the beginning because they bring good luck. But I'll let you know.
Sammi: how it goes. I think it's it's supposed to be like gross and cool. um But I've been into like I've been trying to like read a lot of. Horror. books. And I read a couple lately that just like.
Sammi: there's a couple that people loved and I'm like, these are just not working for me. Like, uh, play nice. Everybody was like, Oh, you gotta. read play nice and it took me forever to get through it i don't know why
Steve: oh
Sammi: But it's a haunted house. I'm not like big into haunted house books, I don't think.
Steve: Yeah, I mean...
Sammi: I've tried a few of them and they just, don't I don't know. They are all are kind of the same.
Steve: Yeah, I mean, yeah this...
Sammi: I think that's kind of the thing for me.
Steve: You can only do so much with that usually.
Sammi: There's only so many things you can do in a house that's haunted.
Steve: I did read a book years ago
Sammi: um Yeah.
Steve: And.
Sammi: You read one book years ago.
Steve: i Yeah, one book. I've read one book. No, I read a book years ago. I forget the name of it. And it's going to drive me nuts. and i'll i'll just like shout it out as soon as i think of it but it was about a guy and he like worked at an ikea but it wasn't ikea because you can't say ikea but it was like the The fiction.
Sammi: Oh, Horror Store. Are you talking about Horror Store?
Steve: Yeah. Her story, yeah, that was fun. And that's basically, it's like, what if a haunted house was Ikea?
Sammi: Yeah, so the...
Steve: that's
Sammi: Well, so he also wrote a book same author wrote a book called how to sell a haunted house
Steve: Oh.
Sammi: um He's kind of so Grady Hendrix, who's the author of those books, is kind of like he's he's a little polarizing. I think I think he's he's like slightly problematic.
Steve: o I didn't know that
Sammi: I don't think he's not like canceled.
Steve: Okay.
Sammi: He's not like canceled, but he's like problematic, right?
Steve: But he's like he's like tap dancing around the cancel line is that
Sammi: It's like.
Sammi: I mean, I have at least a couple of his because I've got his final girl support group somewhere on this shelf over here.
Steve: Okay, I've never read any of his other stuff Somebody's just like, you need to read the Ikea haunted house book.
Sammi: You might even be able to see it in frame. Um, I wanted to. I will read Horror Story. I mean, I. I'm not saying don't read but Grady Hendrix. I'm just saying he's got like some weird, I don't know, people take issue with. the ways that he writes certain things sometimes anyway. um But. I will say, because I was actually about to mention this when I talked about haunted houses. So it's funny that you brought that up is.
Sammi: How to Sell a Haunted House was actually a book I really enjoyed about haunted houses because I felt like he told it in a really...
Steve: Oh.
Sammi: Unique. way But it's also because like. the that it's like a it's a brother and sister they inherit the house of their parents who died And the parents.
Sammi: Were like. They had a really famous. like puppet Show?
Steve: ah Okay.
Sammi: So the whole house is just. full of puppets.
Steve: Oh, God, that that's actually my nightmare. that's
Sammi: And it's like. And they all have different personalities.
Steve: god
Sammi: So that.
Steve: That's fun.
Sammi: was interesting.
Steve: Mm hmm.
Sammi: Like, I had never... read something like that before and I was like Okay, this is pretty good. um So I would recommend How to Sell a Haunted House. I thought it was i thought it was actually pretty good.
Sammi: Um, And Tender is the Flesh was really good, but really fucked up. uh so if you want to Read something that's good, but fucked up.
Steve: Okay.
Sammi: And then i I've been doing like. you know. advanced readers of certain things. And I read one book that I was literally like. the person who wrote this, and I hate to be like that, but I'm like the person who wrote this should be in jail.
Steve: Oh.
Sammi: like I'm just like who I've never read anything quite that graphic and offensive and like for no reason. You know what I mean? Like Tender is the Flesh is like a very fucked up story for human use is also. seemingly very fucked up, but I.
Sammi: I'm guessing it's going somewhere because most of it's like they kind of are getting it out of the way right in the beginning. So I'm like, there must be a bigger story here. Right. um Wretch by Jeremy Wagner. I don't even know I'm telling you to look at it. Like, don't look at it. It's so weird.
Sammi: It's really fucked up. I'm like this person. Should be imprisoned, probably. Um, So that one. Not so good.
Sammi: did not like.
Steve: Okay.
Sammi: um I think that's. i'm looking through horror if you want to read something that will make you cry this came out a while back but i just read it this year um Read They Both Die at the End.
Sammi: It's so good. And they do both die at the end, though.
Steve: Ha!
Sammi: Unfortunately. But it doesn't take away from how good it is. It actually makes it. I think better. Um, but it will. make you cry like a lot.
Sammi: So. Highly recommend. Anyway. Any other wrecks that you got for us?
Steve: nothing Nothing else. you know Mostly the movie stuff.
Sammi: No.
Steve: i've I've read a couple of books, but nothing that's like blown me away where I've got to like be like, hey, listen, you've got to check this out. I've got nothing like that for you. uh that's Yeah, I think that's all I got.
Sammi: That's all you got.
Steve: That's all I got.
Sammi: Um, If you want to, okay, I'm going to give you two more recommendations, friends, actually. Oh, maybe three. Um, One's with bonkers premises and then we'll leave you until.
Steve: ah
Sammi: Probably the love producer or. Mormon wives, whichever one happens first, probably Mormon wives. um Favorite book. Made it to my top four in Letterboxd. No, Storygraph. um The Husbands by Holly Gramazio is a really fun book.
Sammi: One of the best books I've read in a long time. I read it last year. And it's all about this woman who has ah an attic that produces infinite husbands. um Every day a new husband comes out, goes back up.
Steve: o
Sammi: Swaps out new husband. Life changes around her. Um, it's a, I dark matter is one of my favorite books and the husband's is like the rom -com version of dark matter.
Sammi: And it's really.
Steve: Oh.
Sammi: fantastic, very inventive and very fun. um If you want to read a really funny book about somebody getting stuck inside a Slack chat. um ah their Their consciousness gets sucked into a Slack chat and they are a husk in their apartment.
Steve: ha
Sammi: um Check out several.
Steve: That's how I feel at work.
Sammi: Yes. Check out several people are typing. It's very funny.
Steve: Okay.
Sammi: It's all written in Slack. It's all Slack chats, the whole thing. It's very funny. um And then, oh, there was another one. um Oh, if you want to read a kind of a.
Sammi: romantic uh story a little young adulty coming of agey type of thing uh read blob a love story it's about you can see it with my background it says bob right there he um It's about this girl who finds a blob in like an alley and then ah kind of.
Steve: Oh.
Sammi: ah brings it in and nurses at to sentience and um
Steve: o
Sammi: That's all I'll say, but it's. it's very It's magical realism. It's very good.
