We Have Thoughts With Emily & Katie

Transcript

Katie Higgins: Yes. I like to sit and like that when I drive. Oh, what is that very bright light? Let me turn my... To see the blue, it's like. hitting on something oh so i'm going to turn it here So it's not so distracting. You know, there is some girls there is some really fun feelings sitting here.

Katie Higgins: uh Getting to just have a microphone. End. um i gotta agree i get to I get to say what I want to say, you know? i I will say, there is something really nice about holding the microphone, and I feel slightly like...

Katie Higgins: Almost. Um. What's... Like we're in high school again, and it's the phone like the actual phone phone Okay. Yeah. There is, there's something.

Katie Higgins: Um. Okay, checking the sound here. because we've gotten a little frozen little situation. this is a Very oily martini. Hello?

Katie Higgins: Okay, that's working. Huh. Should I? It's just our picture that's. a little off This is why It's why we're just getting it started. And start with there we go. We're back. We're back. Okay. we go Well, just a little quick. um troubleshooting making sure everything's working yes wearing my glasses oh um but you know like it's like that tactile oh there is something about thing

Katie Higgins: Yes. Holding the microphone versus like holding an old school. yes telephone Or... Well, and now what i but I think of is how everyone. They they all FaceTime.

Katie Higgins: yeah they don't call you can't hang up a phone no get wrapped around a cord exactly And they just FaceTime. And I'm like, You know. I don't know. Sometimes I like to put the phone up to my ear.

Katie Higgins: And it's like we're having this. Private conversation -ish. But I'm like. FaceTime for all the world to hear. i think it's funny when you facetime different generations yes Like.

Katie Higgins: If I so different, I have FaceTimed my aunt before okay because she hadn't seen the kids in a while and everybody was looking their nicest and you know, Oh, I see the oil. It is. It's very oily. Okay.

Katie Higgins: Should we do a quick cheers just right now? Okay. All right. Cheers. FaceTime your aunt to see the kids. Because she didn't have her face on. I only got to see the ceiling the whole time. Oh, gotcha. She's like, I'm not showing you my face. I'll accept the FaceTime, but there will be no... No sharing of the face. No sharing of the face. Okay. And then Sophie... almost

Katie Higgins: exclusively loves to FaceTime. That's what I mean. that i'm it's or that's Or that's what I... hey was as i'm thinking of my daughters they just facetime when it's time for dinner or like if you're hungry and you want to you don't need to facetime you don't need to facetime me Nope.

Katie Higgins: Nope. You're upstairs. You do not need to FaceTime me. Nope. Nope. I agree. Simple phone call. You could come downstairs. you That. We have Alexas. You could just make an announcement on the Alexa to my room. You could. Or...

Katie Higgins: You can yell. Hey, can I have a bowl of ice cream? Exactly. Sure. This is not a FaceTime situation. Yeah. Well... What I'm going to say is even about just little FaceTiming things, we have thoughts.

Katie Higgins: Like extensive thought. Because actually, that's so funny that. it because i'm thinking of like you said like the tactile of holding the phone or whatever yeah and if they don't They don't, they just hit FaceTime. yeah and just call yeah And I'm like, ah!

Katie Higgins: Now I like it over the texts. i suppose oh okay Interesting. I like a text. I don't mind a text if it's a simple a simple thing query. Sure.

Katie Higgins: But. If it's a chat. Yeah. Pick up the phone and call. and Okay, sure. If you are not. a phone caller. I would prefer, I suppose, FaceTime. Over a text? Yes. Interesting.

Katie Higgins: I also love a cocktail ketchup. Exactly. Which clearly I can't do with my children, but. Exactly. Welcome to. are episode two. um Cocktail ketchup. Cocktails today.

Katie Higgins: brought to his spine. emily shear and these glasses i um one time Went to Emily's for. drinks and snacks and these glasses if you are if you watch the video you can see them but to describe them.

Katie Higgins: It's imagine a martini glass on a very tall. Stiletto.

Katie Higgins: Stiletto. Oh, it is a Nick and Nora glass. A Nick and Nora glass. These are beautiful. And I don't think I've ever felt so pretty. And then I use my fancy olive pecks. They're gorgeous. I never get to use them. They're gorgeous. Because usually when I have a martini at home, I basically just have a bowl of olive of olives and just eat them. Yes. um But for you. I used my fanciest. It's so pretty. It's so pretty.

Katie Higgins: Oh! How lovely. know We have been talking about martinis quite a lot the past few days. So I, um, I'm loving this. I will say, I wish I put more brine in it.

Katie Higgins: And what I thought what I was adding... was more just oil. So. It does. It does add a... um This is lunch. it Exactly. I'm kind of like, I could be quite satiated with this. you know And happy as can be.

Katie Higgins: Got a whole jar of olives over there. I am so excited. Okay, so. Where shall we begin? Shall we begin today with? The Enneagram? I think so. I think so. So when we left all of you. Okay.

Katie Higgins: We discussed Enneagram ad nauseum. And I'm going to take this moment to get to eat one of these. Yes. And you did not know your number. And so I got in touch with Deidre.

Katie Higgins: And Deidre has these fantastic bingo sheets. I don't know if she made them. I don't know if she had sourced them. I don't know, but they are. um a really easy quick snapshot way.

Katie Higgins: I... Felt this was a lot easier for me than a test. Yes. because And I think maybe because we're all like toss kids. Oh, yes. Like we know. Oh. This is the answer they want.

Katie Higgins: okay right like we know how to take a test correct this did not feel threatening Right, but a yeah bingo card. Our 90s competitiveness comes out. Okay. And you you're like, yeah, i i need a I need a line. But you want to be honest. You're like, no, that doesn't bug me. Right. Or, oh yeah. That's totally me. Okay, so the other thing, and I may have done this done this a bit. Wrong.

Katie Higgins: but it's what it worked for me. or what worked for me with this. So. And I'm excited. So Deidre said she would be happy to come on as well and yeah talk with us about the Enneagram, which I'm very excited about because.

Katie Higgins: I would love to know if she made these. She needs to like. Sell them. or something. I know, like ah like a digital download. I'm not talking about like... some exorbitant cost you know but right Like a digital download. So I will wait to tell y 'all what my. um what mine was. But here's what I loved about the cards.

Katie Higgins: and i And again, I might have done them wrong. But I first just went through them and I just was like, and I just circled the ones just kind of, and I tried to not overthink it, which. really... Not.

Katie Higgins: my strong suit you really did almost get a blackout I think I actually got a blackout on this one. So so here's what happened. The first time I went through it. I got 11 on four.

Katie Higgins: number four, and I got 11 on number nine. Okay. but I knew. And so this is also something that I actually, I need like Europe. So then I wait i went back and I did, I was like, okay, these are some things.

Katie Higgins: Like for instance, does not eat at chain restaurants. I do eat at chain restaurants, but if if money... Your preference. Yeah, if money and time and children's... palettes. We're not. a factor. Right. I like when I was like a 20 something not or like.

Katie Higgins: Not yet had kids. Stephen and I were engaged. and I was living in Houston, like I ate exactly where I wanted to eat at all times. You're not picking restaurants based on their chicken nuggets. Exactly. And or how long it took because it was just me. So I was only eating at the restaurants I wanted to, and none of them were changed. They were all like.

Katie Higgins: something special. Right. So I was like, okay, then. That. that does describe your best life in my best life. That's correct. um This one, not to offend anyone, but also I don't care. because I am 40 now and I don't care. And I have thoughts and I am who I am. Rolls eyes that paint till you faint classes.

Katie Higgins: Originally, I didn't circle that one because I was like, well, but I've been before and like I did end up having fun. But my first reaction to something like a paint till you think class is absolutely not. I'm going to go take a.

Katie Higgins: workshop. with someone like emily when the guild was there you know like that I tend to be a little. snobbish, I guess. about things like that. like or Or this was a big one because I had had a... job in college. working at a ceramic store.

Katie Higgins: I was like, why the heck would I go want to go do like a paint by numbers on a canvas that I'm never going to hang up? If I'm going to do like just for fun painting, it's going to be a coffee cup.

Katie Higgins: That I'm going to have glazed and fired. And then I drink out of it because I'm never hanging this canvas up. But you can. Be creative and into individual. Individual. Yes, exactly. In your.

Katie Higgins: Correct. When it's a coffee cup. And so so on first... run through I didn't because I was like okay but I mean I'm I did go and I had fun and like, I'll make the best of it. That's my type. But.

Katie Higgins: But also then... makes the best of it is. Like. I pay attention to the beauty of things. So like, I'm gonna go and I may have rolled my eyes, but like, I'm gonna find what I like about it or whatever.

Katie Higgins: Um, Then... The other... to here. that, well, I didn't know what peanuts and Coke was. You don't - Put your peanuts in Coke before it was cool.

Katie Higgins: Okay. um Oh, shoot. Because i now I need to do this. um She sings it with George Jones. um But it's you. know um It's an actual thing. It's an actual thing. People from the South. Okay. You put... um peanuts in your coat. now I've never done it oh interesting does it just make it Like, are they shelled or no?

Katie Higgins: I wonder if it adds a saltiness. probably would be great. Which I mean, cause I'm like, listen, I. that that blue cheese olive was like i know you're gonna have to grab absolute heaven no we're gonna eat the container of them it's so good and now i'm like now the martini is like the the peanuts and coke Um.

Katie Higgins: God, it's gonna kill me. I can't think of what her name is right now. Because then all of a sudden I was country. when country wasn't cool Okay, yeah. That song. Okay. And she's talking about putting peanuts in her Coke, but like people actually do.

Katie Higgins: do that okay next episode you're trying this If it's shelled or not. We will find out. I guess I have my phone right there. We could look it up. Maybe let us know. Well, so then what I took that to then mean is just like. You so do things before they get. really yeah and so I do feel like I do that yeah I'm gonna do it oh no now it's a trend now it's a trend Like. home.

Katie Higgins: Like for me. Oh, this is so Emily coded right here. So Emily coded. Oh. yeah you know i i You could be a four. I could be. You could be a four. I could be because there are times. Well, you know this. I very rarely. I am obsessed with this actually. um it's one of my favorite things about you i hate matching people she hates it with a huge exception

Katie Higgins: Yes. And that is my girl, Sophie. ah Love it. And Sophie still lets us match. Yeah. So is my ah daughter. Who is 12. A doll. um To this day, she still lets us match. her I just get the impression she might do that for a very long time. She might. yeah And I want you to know, I grew up, ah my mother did not match with me ever. As many times as I would beg for the matching Daisy Kingdom outfits.

Katie Higgins: Uh, it never happened. Okay. And that's okay. Never did a Laura Ashley moment with her. That's okay. Okay. So we now has Laura Ashley wallpaper in our room and she loves it. Listen, why did we become parents? You know, this is, it's, it's, it's all healing. It's all healing, but we do not match. Okay.

Katie Higgins: i ah With anybody else. Okay. We like to be individualistic. I'm getting better about it. i But if you know me, I don't like this. and I have said for years.

Katie Higgins: There is a place in Ireland I will go when I finally hit my breaking point. We talked about it last time. Uh, Ballymaloo? Cork? It's outside of court. Okay. Yes. We talked about this last time. When I hit my middle breakdown. Well, you know how I know that? Because it's one of our clips and it's really funny. Oh.

Katie Higgins: So it'll it'll make its way to social media. I probably am going to go soon. I feel cannot wait. I feel it. This is what 40 is. I cannot wait. That ballerina farms girl.

Katie Higgins: Okay. She went. last year I think. Okay. And I mentioned it to somebody and they said, oh, do you want to go? Cause she went. Oh, and then you were done. First of all... I ain't on the cookbook. I went.

Katie Higgins: I finally got to go in person and shop their gift shop. And my family was so accommodating and they all sat outside and they had their lemonade while I made 18 laps. Oh, that is just laden down. We went this summer. I bought approximately, I don't know, a gallon.

Katie Higgins: of their relish this time oh and schlepped it home it is interesting okay anyways But everybody, oh, you want to go because she went. Mmm! No.

Katie Higgins: I'm telling you. And now I'm like, do I even want to go? There is one though that I know. garden went to in the south of france and i would like to go to that so well maybe we just won't say it yet Yeah.

Katie Higgins: well Okay. So I... What's what is what is interesting to me is that I so many of these things on this number four were not me at one point. Or when i'm when I'm not in my healthy state, I'm ah i'm not a lot of these things.

Katie Higgins: Because for so long, I did what everyone else did because it felt safe. but me in my true form. I am that way. And I did something petty. So.

Katie Higgins: We are. We love a petty. we Oh, yes. See, and i'm'm I'm embracing my pettiness now. Yeah. Whereas it used to be that I was so concerned. Oh, my God, I'm going to offend someone. Someone's not going to like me. Now i'm I'm a little bit of. um A petty betty. I, a little bit.

Katie Higgins: and and And I'm going to tell you it's serving me. right now is what i'm gonna is what i'm gonna go with it is serving me in a way that i need. Because.

Katie Higgins: I was a doormat for so long. Yeah. So.

Katie Higgins: ah Have you ever seen that thing that says, women in their 40s. are women that are getting back in touch with their like most exuberant little girl And this time they're loving her or something like that. No, but it sounds great. Right. Exactly. exactly um Because I used to have. this and i may have talked this might be a repeat i had this outfit when i was little it was a splatter painted outfit

Katie Higgins: leggings, and an oversized t -shirt. All splatter painted. Was it true leggings or was it like the long, short ones? True leggings. Probably had stirrups. Yes.

Katie Higgins: Because I did love a stirrup. And then it had this V -shaped. ah a lace in a V shape, basically some mom somewhere. And you know where I got this crayons, a consignment store. And I fell in love with this little outfit.

Katie Higgins: I wore it every day. It had bows and lace on the front of the shirt. And then the entire thing was splatter painted. And then somewhere. in my teen years. I became so...

Katie Higgins: Basic. You know? Happy? And well, and preppy was what was safe for me. Yeah. Yes. Now I'm gonna tell you though. In college, when I wore... the Ralph Lauren, the true Ralph Lauren button downs because I went to TCU for a year and that's what everyone wore. I still have those. Those are great shirts.

Katie Higgins: I'm not getting rid of those shoes. You can't ever touch Ralph Lauren. No. They do. quality. stuff and it's good and it's still cute so i'm never touching that well so This one, but then here's what I did So we bought a fixer upper house.

Katie Higgins: if for the people that don't know. And. we are doing um you know bringing it up to it it needed so much renovation that we got it for a ah very wonderful price. And then we're now we're making the renovations.

Katie Higgins: So it ended up being ah a positive financial thing as well as a fun, new creative project, which my husband and I needed. We needed something together after just a long season. Yes, of things.

Katie Higgins: Well, so I... posted in my group from the boutique about wallpaper in a specific powder room and i'm gonna tell you When everyone.

Katie Higgins: went for one thing. I suddenly thought that that was the most repulsive wallpaper I'd ever seen in my life, even though, to be fair, it is actually extremely pretty. It is. but i It's very classic, and it's the safer choice. It was the safer choice, and I suddenly hated it.

Katie Higgins: And then I hated it so much that I hated both of the options I gave. And I ended up going a completely different route and I really do love it. I think... leaked a picture no No, I haven't. That's how petty I am. I'm not even going to show people. hey girl I'm not even going to show people. You only get to see my bathroom if you are invited to my house.

Katie Higgins: I've become so petty. I love it though. Yeah. Eh? feels good. And you know what? I finally and not caring. what everyone thinks about me. They may hate the wallpaper. Actually, if they hate the wallpaper, I'm gonna love it more.

Katie Higgins: That's where I'm getting. That's where I'm getting. So I am now like, it's it so like. But I do still love to match. I wonder what that's about. like Like with the girls? With anyone. ah with it Well, not with anyone. No. But if you're one of the like seven people I like right now. Um, I'll match with you mm -hmm So that i that's an interest, like, I love that caveat.

Katie Higgins: Well, I allowed Julia to have a match. She did. Slightly different. It is slightly different, but she did. She allowed me to get. julia at present that was um a nearly matching situation.

Katie Higgins: Nearly. Growth. Guys, growth. So listen, here's what I know about number four. Okay. Tell me, tell me. And then Deidre will tell us. emily have you learned tonight. And I'll say probably not.

Katie Higgins: Okay. um Number fours, the the two fours that I do know. Okay. are um Don't tell me who they are yet. Do I know them? Oh!

Katie Higgins: You've met them. Okay. I don't know how well you know them. So I wouldn't have an opinion. Okay. No. But... They are okay. Feeling feelings. Oh, yeah.

Katie Higgins: And I think with everything that you have gone through therapy wise and like all of the the the skill sets. and everything that you have done, you are.

Katie Higgins: comfortable. Yes. And. i am sad about this i am mad about this this makes me feel this way um True. uh true And I mean, nobody's ever healed completely. No, it's a healing journey. Yeah. But you are.

Katie Higgins: Okay. advocating for your feelings, advocating for your children's feelings. All of those. Yes. I am constantly as a seven, chasing that high.

Katie Higgins: Had a very stressful week this week. Yes. Mine did. You know, because school started and there's always a million things going on, right? Stressful week. Sure. called Mom.

Katie Higgins: Yeah. You want to book a ticket to Istanbul? heck yeah and i'm like ready to go yeah now do i have any actual time in my schedule probably not And probably long flight.

Katie Higgins: So you're going to actually need time. You like... Is that my thought? Because Istanbul, like compared together compared to a headed to London situation. yeah I mean, I guess a flight to London's about eight hours. Paris is nine.

Katie Higgins: So yeah, it's probably at maybe a good 11 hours. Okay. Okay. My point being is like, you just can't, you can't just say, I'm gonna go away for two days. Because then you're just on a plane. True. you'd right you'd need a You'd need a long weekend. You would need at least a long weekend. We've done London.

Katie Higgins: On a long weekend, like a four day. Oh, wow. Cool. I mean it's... Exhausting. kids I wouldn't do that to the kids. That's hard on them. Yeah. But like Justin and I have done it. Oh. We've done Paris in 48 hours. Oh. like And. Remember.

Katie Higgins: And if you have followed our Instagram. which We're going to do this. again you know oh yeah She got a new thermos, guys. I got it for my birthday. I love it. and I finally got to use it. so her husband justin is a pilot so let me tell you what i'm like can i go back in time and

Katie Higgins: um Ask Steven to be a pilot. Here's the deal. Make one of your kids be a pilot. You get the perks for life. Oh, interesting. You probably can't be autistic and be a pilot. Sure you can. I'm pretty sure a lot of pilots are autistic. Do you think? Oh, interesting. Have you ever, I mean, outside of Justin.

Katie Higgins: I've never met. a po Actually, growing up, I had a we had a friend, Stephen and I both did because we went to school together. um Stephen and I both had a friend. Who? I'm telling y 'all, drinking or eating with Emily is an experience no matter what. I just freaking love it.

Katie Higgins: I knew. She came in. She came to the door with her wicker basket. Well, no, not a wicker bag with her basket. And I knew there was something in there. Because she had a towel. Wrapped around like a kitchen towel with flowers wrapped around. and I knew. There's something in there. And I'm thinking it's a baked good, which I love. But then she said martinis. And I thought, well.

Katie Higgins: This is why we're friends. I was, I was unclear how eating with microphones would go. I don't think that I wouldn't want to listen to someone. I will say I ate one of the olives and then realized I was still holding a microphone and I'm really hoping I didn't turn all y 'all off because that is a huge turnoff for me. Well, maybe with this AI editing situation. that i hey ai take out all the chewing take out the chewing if you hear it yes take it out Um.

Katie Higgins: Yeah, ah they think about it. Okay, they're super. particularly Okay. And, and like you said. He needs everything. You just needed to know was there drinks, which me and the passenger seat of the plane. are we Do we have a drink service on this flight?

Katie Higgins: Flying to Dallas, they don't do it sometimes. Coming so fast. I know. So... Yeah. I think... and But here's the thing. Like, they're not diagnosed, right? Sure, Michael's diagnosed. um Not that Michael wants to be a pilot. Michael wants to be a. Do do you remember when he wanted to design airports? Oh, oh, Michael. Now.

Katie Higgins: Michael doesn't want to be a pilot, but when I tell Michael loves an airport. He loves it um I remember that from years. I think it was the first year he was at Shady Oak. He still has.

Katie Higgins: everything justin gave him oh it's and and so um have you ever seen the movie coco yes the ofrenda or so also if you're catholic you'll know this the the ofrenda or or like i think that's mexican more mexicans yes like culture like um the mexican culture yes okay so the ofrenda So...

Katie Higgins: Michael loved the movie Coco when it came out and it was so precious. And it is a good movie. And. I cry in that movie still. Like...

Katie Higgins: I know what happened! Yeah. And I still tear up. I know. And. That movie when it came out whatever age Michael was he was really struggling with the concept of death And Coco gave him.

Katie Higgins: A framework. to understand death. And this is still one of these moments in my life where I went, oh, my God. And I think I've said this before recently, either on here or somewhere else, that I'm never going to be the person that says autism is a superpower. because my son works so hard every day.

Katie Higgins: and just to get through and a normal day. So I'm not going to say it's a superpower because I think that. has a chance of minimizing.

Katie Higgins: The work? The work he does. What I will say is autism. and watching his autism. play out in the world. has changed me for the better.

Katie Higgins: And. Now, i I don't think he could say something like that yet because he doesn't know any different. You know, like his delays started after like at 18 months. So like he doesn't know any different.

Katie Higgins: Right. But what I, so he. at the time his teacher was kindergarten teacher miss lemos who all three of my kids had for kinder um here in LCISD. and She is very open about this, so I'm not saying that anything I can't say. She lost a child.

Katie Higgins: and I believe he had just passed his first. birthday when he passed and Mrs. Lemos was so... real about this with her students and her families because at even And I guess it had been just a couple or maybe a few years when Michael was going through her class. And so she said, I'm honest about this because on tough days.

Katie Higgins: I'm crying because I've lost my child. And I need. And I want the kids to understand why I'm crying. And, or at least in their kindergarten minds or, and then same to the parents. if If your kid comes home and says, well, Mrs. Lemus was crying today.

Katie Higgins: I'm gonna need you to know why. Right. And she so she always shares about chance. Well, so Michael was watching. was a very obsessed with coco and he was very confused about death i had just lost my grandmother which was his great grandmother that he was very close to very much part of his life And he was struggling to understand death, and he made an ofrenda at our house, and he printed out a photo of Chance, Mrs. Lemos' son, and put him on it.

Katie Higgins: and i And I took a picture and I... Sentence. to Mrs. Lemos and I said, I. want you to understand what you are doing for these children. By sharing your. reality Yeah. And.

Katie Higgins: you And I want you to know where Michael, like you are on the ofrenda. at our house. with alongside my grandparents like that is how michael feels about chance because of what you've shared and this is my autistic child. And so I I just was, I've always loved that movie because it was such an impactful movie for him to be able to start putting the pieces in place. And now listen.

Katie Higgins: I'm not gonna go on a theological journey here, guys. I know. I, well, right now I'm not. ah At least not about this. sure I, um. Because I know they're not doing all the things in heaven that they're doing in Coco. or But who knows? Also, we've never been there.

Katie Higgins: Don't know. We don't know. But man, I got some flacks from some people at that time. Like, well, aren't you worried that you're letting him. you know, believe something that isn't real. I'm like, no, because my kid is so happy. He is loving human beings. And this is how he is able to make sense. Well, why is it not real?

Katie Higgins: Eh! I... would need to watch the movie to remember the specifics that I was, but goes back to where now I have thoughts because as a young mom with a newly autistic child and me not knowing what the heck I was doing. Man, people love to give me advice.

Katie Higgins: Yeah. And now at 40, I'm like. Nope. Go away. Everybody's heaven looks different. yeahy I can't. of think so remember that it was like an old joke or so i can't even remember how it goes but like You die and there's like a long hallway with doors and they're like, hey, yeah your door's up here on the left. Just.

Katie Higgins: Go real quiet when you walk by. This door. Oh, I've never heard this. And it was like. Well, I think it Maybe it was the Catholic door to heaven or something like that. Well, you know my feelings on the Catholics right now. I'm obsessed with learning more about them. They're kind of a ah cool group. It really is. i mean the priests at the time doing the things they were doing didn't didn't do well but listen we're all flawed It's pink.

Katie Higgins: yourself. Yeah. so Set for Emily. Um, ah so, so yeah, but there was an old joke about it and it was like, you got to go real quiet. And finally somebody says, why do we have to go real quiet by this door? And they're like, no, because the Catholics think that, or, you know, whichever religion it was, it was.

Katie Higgins: Oh, because they think they're the only ones up here. Oh. Because everything, I mean. What is the afterlife? I, I, you know, I heard something recently within the past, um recently, I'm going to say within the past two years.

Katie Higgins: Where. because i i i we are both believers we believe in jesus we are both that's what what right And. And. I'm and I believe, okay. And I do believe the Bible where it says.

Katie Higgins: And I believe the Bible in its entirety. I do not believe in cherry picking. Versus. to justify your hatred of people. Do not believe in that.

Katie Higgins: Can you tell I haven't eaten much? and i Have another olive. I'm going to have another olive here before I say something I shouldn't say. But. I... You know, no one comes to the Father except through me.

Katie Higgins: Right? Jesus I believe that. What? I heard in the past, and I think this was actually from my cousin's husband, who's a pastor possibly, but I also shouldn't say that just in case it wasn't him.

Katie Higgins: But it was that. Who am I to underestimate? God's power His love. His. his' in his plan.

Katie Higgins: So... Of, of. Every human on this. planet and then if there's other universes that he yeah is, you know, whatever. And I went. Oh my God, because how much of my life have I spent trying to shove God in a box?

Katie Higgins: where everything felt safe and in my control. And like. he has consistently blown that box up and said, No, no. No, no, you're going to trust. Me. Because I love you.

Katie Higgins: And I have so much more for you. And so I kind of i adopted that in the last couple of years that. I'm not going to underestimate. gods.

Katie Higgins: love and generosity and compassion and plan. because it's so much bigger than mine. Yeah. So that's where I i stand on that. Deidre. Okay. ah We really should have her on. I am. We're going to need some some faith lessons from Deidre. She also teaches our Sunday school class quite often.

Katie Higgins: And she did a whole thing on Sermon on the Mount. And really the big takeaway is. That's the Beatitudes, right? Yeah. Okay. Good ones. You, without sin, cast the first stone. Good luck. ah She didn't say that part, but that's what I took away from it.

Katie Higgins: Um... I don't know what he's saying. Your Sunday message from Emily. I don't know what his plan is. I'm just along for the ride and I'm going to do my best. so And like you said last week.

Katie Higgins: And I love this. God gave me a big heart and a big mouth and I'm gonna use it. Yeah. I love that. I love that. That's all I know how to do.

Katie Higgins: Well, um oil my in um oil in my ah martini is going to become a thing I'm going to need. now Well, that was a whole thing earlier. I think it was last year. Really? Olive oil martini. And I never tried it. um I do wish I put more brine in this one. The vermouth. that So Emily first said. that she put more too much vermouth in it. And I'll say it's definitely, and and it by no means is it dirty martini sweet.

Katie Higgins: But I'd say it's sweeter than I've had before. But then this blue cheese olive oil situation. That is kind of starting to take over the glass. I am here for it I do like it.

Katie Higgins: So you're a seven oh going back to Enneagram. Oh, I know. I think I'm a four. No, ah you're a four. I'm a seven. You're a seven. Okay. Let's see here now.

Katie Higgins: nope nope okay let's go to the seven Here's seven. Okay. You didn't have very many on seven. I really. didn't. um Number one in the corner.

Katie Higgins: My children make fun of me all the time for this. Oh, okay. Makes friends wherever they go. Oh, okay. I did circle that one. You did. Um... And. Every plane ride, every airport, everywhere we go.

Katie Higgins: Do you just know everyone here, Mom? I do not. But you know what? If you're nice to people, what is it that I read this week that Dolly said? If somebody doesn't have a smile, give them yours. Yes. You just be nice people. Come on. It's not that hard.

Katie Higgins: It's really not. You can make fun. you can make a friend justin's really good about it he used to um I'm not going to say he used to not be because he's always been a friendly guy. Okay. But.

Katie Higgins: I think he's like reached this age of like. being a dad and an an adult he's just like hey i'm here for a good time You know, love. So doing.

Katie Higgins: we just went very dark i know I don't know what happened and A frozen moment. um But... He is like all about it.

Katie Higgins: making friends when we were in Ireland he was like ready to talk to the locals and it cracks me up Well, Justin, even, okay, so I probably met Justin for real when.

Katie Higgins: The boutique moved into the guild with you. in 2020 and Justin has always been. just um i don't get Flustered.

Katie Higgins: Like. easygo guy He's a very easygoing guy. And I have gone through a period of my life where. I... sometimes wouldn't know how to act around my friends' husbands.

Katie Higgins: And I think. Yeah, I guess that's fair. That's fair. And I know I'm not alone in that because like, you know, you go, cause you're like, I don't know how everyone is or whatever.

Katie Higgins: And so. I... But for... Whatever reason I I was. Not always the best about like. when husbands were around. Sure. and Justin always was just like. Hey Katie! So chill. And I was like, oh, yeah.

Katie Higgins: Yeah, we're just we're just chill. easy's Easy. We're just chill. And it was always something that I admired. And. I imagine his his flight passengers. admire that.

Katie Higgins: Need that. Well, and I think that' with Southwest. you know, they, they have this. um Let's see. They have the warrior spirit. Okay. The servant's heart. No, heart heart of hospitality. Okay.

Katie Higgins: And there's another one. I always forget the other. But it is, I mean, every night. you have a different flight crew Okay. And now that he is captain, it's kind of expected that. he buys them around. oh so like he it like there's this practice whereas when he flew private okay the same guys every time sometimes you would have a flight attendant but you know usually not okay and so it was easy to be friends with the guys because you're always flying with because you're always with them

Katie Higgins: so you're he's he's had to another pilot and he's had to you know okay new crew let's get to know we're We're carrying these people across the country. so Yeah, it is. It is. But me. Definitely.

Katie Higgins: Um... historically I can just you do talk to a wall yeah same i you i think i literally could be put in a room and talk to myself You know, i was I was shocked by this, but then I remembered. You did not circle tries new food. I'm literally this is my favorite thing to do But well are it you are a texture and smell. I am. So.

Katie Higgins: I like to think I will try new foods. i So this is one I hesitated on. Because I thought of two. recent scenarios. Or, or so I was with my friend, Amy and I, she was teaching me how to eat oysters oh yeah and I was. I was fully invested and we did the thing and I tried new oysters. Well.

Katie Higgins: Emily and I were together over the summer and we were. We were trying some new things and... And you had a cheese board and we had a cheese board and I was very opposed to some things now. And I will say selfishly. Yeah. I did not do anything to entice you on these. I basically said, said no, you won't like it. You're fine. You're fine. You don't need it. Because I knew I was going to love it. She wanted it. She liked it. I would have to share. Yeah.

Katie Higgins: Yeah. No, I'm, Hey, I would have done the same. Um, but what I've noticed, but wasn't I, okay. I'm thinking of something different than what you were thinking. oh I was thinking of when we were extremely hot. And. um Done. That first day that we were out to dinner. Yeah. And I put the ice in my scarf. Yes, we both did. Listen.

Katie Higgins: So hot. um welcome to being perimenopausal we we just wrapped some ice cubes in our scarves and said on with the day. okay Well, so I wonder, I wonder if i my surroundings affect me.

Katie Higgins: Could be. So like if I'm - You got that soup and it wasn't the temperature you wanted. No, it was cold. and i And I would have thought that would be incredibly refreshing. Because I was freezing. Or, I mean, I was currently sweating my ass off.

Katie Higgins: And so, but Cold soup. Definitely throws me off. A gazpacho? I... do chied so I don't eat a gazpacho. I love a...

Katie Higgins: uh ceviche i will say one time I was in the south of France and I was served a gazpacho and they served it with a straw. Nope. And that one was tough to get down. Nope. Give me a spoon, sure. Spoon, sure. I'm not going to suck it up. I probably could have sipped it. like like Like pick up the bowl situation. There was some, it was one of those like smoothie straws. Nope. Nope. That means things can go through it because it's big. I didn't like that. I know. So I i do like to try new foods.

Katie Higgins: with people I trust. And... Because Steven, my husband, he will. for a fun time. have me try something that he knows I'm gonna hate because he likes to see my reactions.

Katie Higgins: Julia does the same. She made me eat these Sour Punch the other day that were mystery Sour Punch where one of them is a dill pickle flavor. No! I was you need better friend horrified.

Katie Higgins: I would never do that to you. Thank you. I served you a martini with more vermouth because I read that that's... how they're discerning. people with taste is if you can handle vermouth or not. Interesting. And I mean, it was totally an op -ed kind of situation. Sure. But I was like, I...

Katie Higgins: Oh, wait. So the vermouth was on purpose. Yeah. Oh. Oh, I didn't couch that earlier. Yes. Because I'd never done it. I was like, I don't know. It could taste horrible. But it was very nice growing on me.

Katie Higgins: I... I mean, listen, the whole thermos is going to get Finished. Yeah. Okay. ah Peter Pan syndrome. Now mine isn't necessarily. I don't know what that is actually. Oh, Peter Pan. like I won't grow up.

Katie Higgins: Oh, I like growing up. but I would counter Peter Pan syndrome. with anti -mame syndrome. And Auntie May. Auntie May might need to watch this movie, don't I? Okay. Everybody's assignment.

Katie Higgins: Go and watch Rosalind Russell and Auntie May. okay it is okay all right i'm gonna do that this week it is an oscar Winner. Okay. Rosalind Russell is amazing.

Katie Higgins: Okay, number one takeaway. Yeah. Okay. Her whole life. Life is a banquet. And some poor suckers are starving to death. You need to live, live, live, Agnes.

Katie Higgins: Aye. Love that. I know. She had thoughts. She also had the greatest costume designer. Oh. Do you watch the Gilded Age on HBO Max? Occasionally not.

Katie Higgins: I know. i need I watched it and then I canceled HBO Max and then I got HBO Max again because I got a new trial and like a like a thing for a few months. So I'm back at watching it again and I.

Katie Higgins: Love. the costumes in the Gilded Age. well and i also love I never can remember her name, but she played Miranda on Sex and the City. I can never. Cynthia Nixon. Cynthia Nixon. Yes. And I like. And she's playing a different. And she kind of plays the mousy character. Yes. It's very. I love watching it because I'm like.

Katie Higgins: This is so different from Miranda! Yes. So I love that. It's very mousy. Yes. And, ah but her sister is. um she's kind of a queen bee situation or like she's not the queen bee. Well, she's that one that was on, wasn't she on civil?

Katie Higgins: Did you ever watch that show Sybil from back in the 90s? with Sybil Shepherd. was the actress What is the name of that? Right? I think she was in it. That's not the one in Mamma Mia, though.

Katie Higgins: Oh, I wouldn't. Oh, I've never seen it. What is her name? I know. like you I know. ah Okay. What else did you not circle? Yeah, what else? does You're not a rules are meant to be broken person. I'm not.

Katie Higgins: I am a... yeah know I think I'm becoming one. But I am a very, like, I would like to be. following the rules.

Katie Higgins: until the rules are wrong. Eek. so but But in my head, if the rules are wrong, I'm not breaking them. Does that make sense? I get rules for safety's sake. Yes. But if somebody tells me I can't. Do something.

Katie Higgins: The hell you say. Yeah, and it comes just, I can't help it. It just, no, I, I think for me, it manifests a little bit differently that because I'm like, I'm like.

Katie Higgins: Oh! You think I can't do that? yeah Watch me now or whatever, but I. in a, okay. Yeah. what Well, I was going to say looking at this, yeah I think. I'm in unhealthy seven right now, guys. I think I need to take some trips right now. Oh, un well, I just feel like I am in the throes of.

Katie Higgins: Motherhood? ah Of. Children need me. Husband needs me. yeah more I mean, like, I love them. Yeah. No, you do. You have quite a relationship with your family. I mean.

Katie Higgins: I work in Sylvie's sweatshop these days. uh More on that later. yeah This Saturday. But next week it'll be. It'll it'll it'll already be passed. So. I think I need to take some more adventurous times. Ooh, interesting. Okay. See, I don't see you though. FOMO. That's the one, one of the ones that stands out to me as not you. is FOMO I...

Katie Higgins: No, I... Because I will, I will. not attend something. And then I will. Watch all of the Instagram videos. Okay. and stories and then just look at just and be like we should have gone um and Like I can't sit and have a relaxing evening. because I know what we're missing.

Katie Higgins: Okay. So not FOMO in its like most. common form. it's a little different it's a little different i do Love a party. i Even if I'm exhausted. Yo. even if I know I really should just stay home.

Katie Higgins: It's really hard for me to say no to things like that. yes because I'm like but I i might have a really great time right and it and well and what's so interesting it is really so as as emily and i have gotten closer over the last um however long.

Katie Higgins: It has been, we talked, we mentioned this last time I was Absolutely mesmerized by the way she shops. Because. The way I see you. is as That's the life of the party. The party doesn't, if you're not there, there is no event. And I don't see myself that way at all. I know. And it was in shopping that I learned that.

Katie Higgins: And so that was extremely interesting to me about you was like, oh, wow. I. But there's also that like we see our friends in their greatest lights. You know what I mean? Type of a thing. yeah And...

Katie Higgins: um So I definitely was. What's that phrase? I was picking up what you were putting down. Right. You know? um And so then when I learned kind of more of what the internal dialogue that was happening when you are choosing an outfit or whatever, because look at this outfit you're wearing today.

Katie Higgins: Yo, she walks in. ready for our recording appointment Appointment makes it sound way too professional because We are here for a good time. Um, but But I do like the idea of having an appointment. Oh, me too. martini Oh, same.

Katie Higgins: That's like all my new personalities coming together. Yes. and I was. um very mesmerized by Your inner dialogue while you were shopping and I and I really do think it has made me look at my boutique business and go, oh.

Katie Higgins: I got to reevaluate. Some of the things that I think about how people shop, because when you're when you own a retail store or whatever.

Katie Higgins: You - And then I only i I mean, for the most part, when it comes to clothing. I only buy wholesale. You know, very rarely, unless it's for my daughters or my son or my husband, I'm not buying retail all that much. Because my wardrobe is... is my store, I'm part of the brand, blah, blah, blah.

Katie Higgins: and And that's a blessing and a curse. is what i'm Let me just be very clear. That is a blessing and a curse. and um Not that I'm not grateful, but i'm but it is it's a double -edged sword. A devilish order is better than a blessing and a curse because I don't want to be negative about it.

Katie Higgins: Um, So I... it was It was so fascinating for me to see. um how much thought went into it. the intentionality And but then also, and I think this is a key piece that I took away from.

Katie Higgins: learning more about how you shop was that You were. much more confident in a purchase for Sophie. as you were for yourself. And so that showed me, oh, there's a lot more.

Katie Higgins: thinking that goes into a mother purchasing something for herself than it does for purchasing something for her daughter. Not that there's not thought behind what you buy for Sophie. I don't mean it like that. It's not like you were just like, Oh, I can spend money on this. Let me get it. No, it was always very thoughtful. Adorable. She's precious. Blonde, tan, little thing that can, you know, pull off anything. And she gets excited about, oh, she loves whatever Emily buys her. She opens up that box and it's just delight. Exactly. I mean, I do i do love that. my I can probably very honestly say my kids are.

Katie Higgins: quote unquote spoiled. I don't think they're spoiled because they're not bad humans. Like I think spoiled brings a negative connotation. and my children are not bad humans and your children are but not bad humans and i don't want to actually no one's a bad human blah blah blah okay what there we go we're getting on it I'm going to change it there. but But I do, I do love.

Katie Higgins: to watch my children. get a surprise yes and their their delight and happiness yes but ah all parents feel that way right I think so. And I don't think it's, and I'm talking like if sometimes if I bring home.

Katie Higgins: Maggie or Mary Or, I mean, if I bring home Michael, if I get Michael a $1. Coke Zero at McDonald's. He is just as happy. So I'm not talking even about.

Katie Higgins: so I remember when mom would pick up M &M's. Yes. At the grocery store on the checkout. you know I'll get him a little. I mean, because there's nothing more magical. Then the sound of imminent. I'm hitting the ball.

Katie Higgins: I love an M &M.

Katie Higgins: I do love an M &M. They are so good. Chocolate. I mean, it doesn't matter if it's. something extravagant or something small i think that the the feeling we get is We are receiving our children's acknowledgement of... what you thought of me Exactly.

Katie Higgins: So. And that that goes for my husband. Like, if when Steven just thinks of me, he if he brings me home, like, a random bottle of wine or he saw chocolate at the store or he saw gummy candy, that's when you realize I like gummy candy more.

Katie Higgins: And he brings it home. I'm like, oh oh my God. Or he bought me a robe the other day. It was $29. But it was 100 % cotton. It was exactly what I wanted. There you go. And it was $29. And I.

Katie Higgins: It's not. ah it it I know. And it was incredible to get it through sometimes our husband's heads. Like it doesn't have to be this big. flashy thing. Exactly. i really know do i love a flashy thing yes i love a flashy thing But I also love.

Katie Higgins: the robe that I was looking at. Right, you know. That is 100 % cotton because I'm so. Dang hot. Yes. all the time or I love. Justin can read this face and say, you know what?

Katie Higgins: She needs a glass of whiskey. Last night I got treated to a glass of Jameson and it hit oh delightfully and I loved it. It was exactly what I needed. Okay. It's not always. A gift. ah Yes. When Steven pours me a glass of wine.

Katie Higgins: I'm grabbing the olives. Yeah. Oh, do that. And him a glass of wine and like walks over to me and is like, hey. You want to just sit and have a glass of wine together? ah Puddle on the floor. Puddle on the floor!

Katie Higgins: so and thanks sure do steven steven doesn't love wine the way he used to because we are 40 and it causes heartburn print. Which is a real bummer.

Katie Higgins: So when he does it, I know he's sacrificing. here's at nighttime. Comfort. to be with me, which then makes it even more special.

Katie Higgins: I've never asked Justin if it causes him heartburn. I just love a glass of wine. Well, I feel, wouldn't he tell you? I don't know. Maybe not. Yeah.

Katie Higgins: Swallow it down, but interesting, interesting. slow down but yes okay i think the way i did not realize i shopped The way you shopped? Yeah.

Katie Higgins: Until I was there? Now, I grew up. My mom is a great shopper. Oh, I can see this. was a great shopper. Her sisters are great shoppers. And. i and she's going to correct me i'm putting two in my drink I think it was my...

Katie Higgins: Great. grandmother or great -great -grandmother. or ant. okay one of the two Never remember. One of those. on my mother's side okay i worked at a department store oh and like back when the department titles section My mother still has her bridal pin. and they're in her sewing notions oh but i still to this day okay

Katie Higgins: years ago. You you guys did the whole thing about pockets being snack holes. Snackles. Yeah, I'm back. mm -hmm I'm pretty sure. and My mother would have enacted Sharia law.

Katie Higgins: Just chopped off my arms and put my hands in my pockets. I remember I had it narrowed down to two wedding dresses. And um it was between the one I got. and there was this fabulous one it looked like the 1950s barbie it was strapless with like the biggest who oh And this, like, sateen. It was gorgeous. Mine was similar.

Katie Higgins: uh, great big deep pockets. Really? stuck my hands in them. and I said, I love this dress. okay And look, it has pockets oh like any American woman would do.

Katie Higgins: Yes? No ma 'am. Oh! What in God's name are you going to put in your pockets? jeing on your wedding day. I don't, I don't, lipstick? Yeah. tissues? Why do you need tissues? Because I might cry. Why are you crying on your wedding day? ah you know Happy Tears! So. i See, she's gonna murder me. I... adore her mother Nancy.

Katie Higgins: I have been going to... um energy sessions. I've taken a break because I've gotten very i'm yeah I'm doing EMDR therapy and I'm getting tired. um But it's time to go back. I've had a break.

Katie Higgins: So now the kids. She can fix perimenopausal rage, just so you know. She's been working on it with me. Steven's going to be like, I'm going to need you to go every. day. yeah it holds right now for me about a week at a time and i'm like that's pretty good okay interesting interesting no this is i've been fascinated by the energy work because There is also a part of me that wants to see if I can trick Nancy.

Katie Higgins: I cannot trick Nancy. My body. And the energy flowing through it and around it, I guess, is just. Is just and I will I'll like start laughing.

Katie Higgins: win. I am. consciously trying to beat the system. Because it's not that I'm trying to trick Nancy. It's that there I have some cynicism in me. Well, and there's stubbornness. And I'm stubborn.

Katie Higgins: And so it blows. my mind and particularly I had a stuck point. Um... Maybe. It was maybe three sessions ago. mm -hmm And.

Katie Higgins: Nancy was. Also a little bit like stumped by it. but She was like, but I'm very intrigued by this because I want to troubleshoot it. And so, and I love that. I, I, Michael's neurologist is a researcher.

Katie Higgins: And we've been with him since he was three and Michael is now. Um, 50. going to be 15. So like, I love a researcher. I love someone that's going to dig in and it is not just like, well, this is what I said, it's going to happen. And that's going to happen. And if it doesn't happen, well, then you're the messed up one. Right.

Katie Higgins: I'm not, not a fan. No. Um, And so she was like, I'd really like to work on this. Would you be okay with coming into this room? We're going to do something completely different. And I was like, oh, I am here for it.

Katie Higgins: Do you know we got to the bottom of it? And... It was that. I'm going to sum this up into like. real fast and I'm probably going to minimize it a little bit.

Katie Higgins: or dramatize it a little bit. Because either way, I can't, if unless without going into a very long explanation that I'm just not wanting to go into right now. sure um I've gotten really good at believing the lies I tell myself. um And so.

Katie Higgins: ah What kind of happens when the energy work is happening is that. She can, your body, the energy is going to basically say you're you're lying. And...

Katie Higgins: I have gotten so good at lying to myself. That my energy was believing it So even when I was saying, my name is Helen. My energy was not reacting the way it should.

Katie Higgins: to My name is Helen versus my name is Katie. So, and a thing that she does is she she tests your body. Yes, this is this was all with the testing. This was all part of the testing. And what we drew from that or what she drew from that and that I learned was that.

Katie Higgins: Oh. I've been telling myself a story for so dang long just as a coping mechanism with certain parts of my life. or with my life, like that i I... I've gotten to where I don't even trust myself. because I know I'm lying to myself and so and what was so cool was that combined with what That was... 100 % mimicking what was happening in my EMDR sessions as well. And so I was like,

Katie Higgins: oh, this is wild. And it does go hand in hand. Like I don't. like I am such a believer now in this like energy and also.

Katie Higgins: If you're a Jesus girl, a believer. Jesus created us. In these bodies, God created us in these bond bodies that have energy. So.

Katie Higgins: You know, because I've had some people go, ooh, does that make you feel uncomfortable? No. Because he created all of these incredible systems. And.

Katie Higgins: So why wouldn't I want to use it all in conjunction? to to heal. You know? So that's my caveat on that. about a from a religious standpoint.

Katie Higgins: I just. I just do what my mom tells me. to We'll bet. as well. most I now, I do what my mom tells me to do now. And I do it. what Nancy tells me to do now. So, and if anybody's interested, it's called Eden Energy. She's an Eden.

Katie Higgins: Eden? energy practitioner. mhm. mhm. Um, i Went to London to study? Yep. I think she's going back again. Hmm. for year four. So. I am fascinated and can't say enough good things about it.

Katie Higgins: it It works. And I know it does ah she's been hounding me for a testimonial. So she'll probably have one too. No, I told her I'd give her one before she even asked me. Could you write me one? too Thank you. Sure thing.

Katie Higgins: Well... So should I go through this maybe a touch? And then I want to know what Deidre said about me. I'll go fast through this. Well Deidre said she could believe that. that you were born. What are the ones she said? I'm definitely not.

Katie Higgins: Because remember, you you're going to set one. No. Not a one. ah Let me see, though, which one I was surprised I got. OK, so. ended up being four and as I read about four then because I didn't go read these until I was done hmm When I read four.

Katie Higgins: I was like, woo. And This was interesting to me because it says vice is envy. And I don't. consider myself an envious person, like at all.

Katie Higgins: But... I thought when it when I... read through how it explained it a little more so it's not it's not just straight up and be the way we would think like oh that girl has it better than me I want to be her or I want what she has I don't do that But I have a longing.

Katie Higgins: for Could this be better? Yes. and That. is Often. a a problem for me.

Katie Higgins: So I was like, oh, wow. Because I think I would have originally read, if I just was flipping through the Enneagram types and I saw. that the vice for Enneagram 4 was like jealousy or envy, I would have gone, no, because I'm not a jealous person. You don't want to. Note minus. What is it? Gluttony.

Katie Higgins: oh Oh, yeah, it is. i mean Listen. It is. I'm okay with that. i have I am also, I think, okay with gluttony. but i don't know some don't you know whatever okay Thanks.

Katie Higgins: truenament like I mean. And i I do, I, ooh, ooh, interesting. Okay, wait, now I'm going to have to look into this envy thing more. I don't know why you're saying that yours was gluttony and you're like true to your envy. You know what, because you're envious of mine.

Katie Higgins: Oh my god! Emily, I think you were right. Do you see how I just did that and I didn't even see it? That. was WILD.

Katie Higgins: That was wild. Well, let's see what... um Should we touch on the Lindsay -Glancy trial? Do we have? we i Let me double check. Let me know what you think. I don't think we have a verdict yet So.

Katie Higgins: Today, as we are recording, it is Friday, so what we've kind of... gotten to it's going to be friday and it releases on friday like the next friday following friday we i mean we need some time we need some time i mean there may be tidy up there may become a time where if i can get real good at this ai editing situation it may be a same day turnaround it might be um But I'm not going to promise that Okay, well you... Okay, let me check this. Now. Now, as we okay are releasing this.

Katie Higgins: next Friday What? Okay. The folks at home won't have necessarily known about unless they follow us on social media. sophi's about Sophie Please, you while I look this up, please. I'm obsessed with Sophie Stiles. So you tell us about it. Earlier this summer,

Katie Higgins: Maybe before summer started, actually. I was watching TikTok and I was told by the TikTok algorithm that. Um, patches were the thing of the summer cool girls were doing patches all ah girl sco scout Girl Scout patches. Like you're going to earn things. And so they were making their like vision boards for summer and then they would buy themselves patches and then they could earn these patches. So I decided oh that's some really fun and campy. I love it. I'm going to do that for my family.

Katie Higgins: So I asked the kids what they wanted to do. And one of the things Sophie wanted to do was learn how to use the sewing machine. Okay. And I said, okay. It's probably about time. I think I was your age when I learned how to use a sewing machine. Wait, she just learned this summer? Yes.

Katie Higgins: Wow. So... I had gone on a trip. And. I was in Paris. And. Everybody there was carrying these bags called Call It By Your Name. They're these bandana bags that are fabulous.

Katie Higgins: Right. And it is, I'm here to tell you. An exorbitant price. and i you know maybe one day we will flesh out some of the pricing on boutique suit.

Katie Higgins: et cetera. Sure. a Price of goods. but something I can speak to for sure. The price of the bag. hello in my mind as somebody who does so.

Katie Higgins: It didn't match the material. I'm going to say yes. yeah And... so when i got home and sophie's wanting to learn how to sew It is a very simple bag. You take a bandana. mm -hmm You quilt it with some padding.

Katie Higgins: You can line it. if you choose. But it's a lot of straight seams. okay and i said sophie why don't we sit down and we'll make you this okay great summer bag to have Mine is neon orange and pink. It's a fantastic. She loves it. And she decides. I want to make it some more.

Katie Higgins: and i said okay well let's make more what do you want to do with it i want to sell it on the golf course and i said don't think golfers. Do you live on the golf course? We do. We live on. I didn't realize that. We live on the golf course.

Katie Higgins: And ah she loves to sell their golf balls back to him and she makes a killing. Love that. um But I don't think. golfers aren't necessarily her clientele for sure for sophie's for a bandana purse or tote bag okay And so I said, well, let's think about this. What do you wanna do? What do you wanna make?

Katie Higgins: She said, I want to sew purses and I want to make jewelry. I said, I don't think. male golfers. It's who you want to sell it to. okay i mean their wives would love it but you would have to convince them and they're just probably not gonna buy it So she started doing it and I said worst case scenario you can sell it to the family Okay.

Katie Higgins: all of that. And you came to my birthday party and we were talking about it then. And you were so kind. and said she has to come to EK. i' um it's It's what I've been looking forward to most, to be honest, about our events. And so she took your custom order and sewed you a bag. Yep. I carry... um her bags daily.

Katie Higgins: eyeglass chains all around yeah and so we are very excited that tomorrow morning oh my god we will set up which will by the time this airs be less be dumb or last weekend.

Katie Higgins: um But she's already planning her inventory. And. um What do you call that? Like her drop? her her Her next launch? Her next drop? Her next launch? Yeah. any of Totally different products that she is planning.

Katie Higgins: Or October. And I'm like, girl. We're in school now. when Yeah. When are you going to sew these things? So I work in her sweatshop. yeah um she's got one employee in her sweatshop she burned herself fairly early on in the selling experience.

Katie Higgins: on the iron oh and so yeah And it well it was a nasty burn. ah And she had quite the incident. at the boutique that we are still all dumbfounded by.

Katie Higgins: sliced that baby's finger sliced her finger way open no clue how she's done it there must it's like there was an invisible razor blade in the dressing room curtain We are all film. It was. I was losing my mind. I really like internally, I was like, I cannot believe my dressing room attached to this precious baby attacked this precious baby girl.

Katie Higgins: Yeah. And she's not a baby, but that's what you feel like when they're hurting. No, I mean, she is kind of my fairy baby. Yeah, she's a bit of a fairy baby. um And I love her deeply. But I work in her sweatshop. Very fond. I iron, I cut.

Katie Higgins: um I love this. I do all of her. I'm her sous chef. There you go. and There you go. um So it does help now that she. is in school okay to do all of that prep work and then on the weekends So, so, so. Zoom in it.

Katie Higgins: I am. beyond and guys This is what was so special about it. And this is this is what I love about. boutique. things. is that Um.

Katie Higgins: So sophie bring Sophie and Emily bring me my bag. And. I notice it is metallic. thread. on that bag.

Katie Higgins: I pointed out to anyone that it complements my bag, which is a lot of people because the call me. Come in. Your name? Call it by your name. Call it by your name bags. And they are beautiful bags. They are beautiful bags. Well, and I think for us, one of the things is that we are from Texas. Looking in pairs, it felt a little... uh like cultural appropriation which i feel is maybe a bit high -horsed Sure. That's kind of funny though. But... Ha!

Katie Higgins: Yeah. Cause it's bandanas. Um, because you said, you said, you said it felt, you were like, I'm just looking around and I'm seeing all these things. Bandanas, quilted jackets, quilted ba bags, all with.

Katie Higgins: with being The one that really I had to laugh was they had. real cute moccasins. But the moccasin stitching. was the traditional cowboy boot stitching. And I said, we're just putting cowboys and Indians together. as well. oh girl it felt a little wrong Yeah a little bit.

Katie Higgins: A little bit. I can see you tell me that story. I'm i'm picturing it. I can. I can see it. But you know what I think I've... um The more I hear about you, like. your travels.

Katie Higgins: They don't. care as much. They're just living their lives. I listened to Rosie O'Donnell the other day on Amy Poehler's podcast. She was hysterical.

Katie Higgins: And. And I do remember her getting canceled, but I had to go back and research like why she was canceled and all of that. uh she expressed some some intense statements about.

Katie Higgins: Apologies, yeah. And. and was um I guess really singled out for it or whatever so she she moved to Ireland And. it was so i think well or or did we talk about it on the phone maybe i can't remember Well. So I'll just be really quick about this. She said moving to Ireland. was so incredible because they weren't obsessed with celebrity culture.

Katie Higgins: They could care less. that she was a big time celebrity. that it is just your human. You're a human. And so then also I think that lynne lends itself to.

Katie Higgins: not being quite as offendable. You know what I mean? and And I would say in Ireland, especially when I have packed for Ireland.

Katie Higgins: Aye. I. um Because you've been a couple times now to Ireland. I have. First time was for the Spice Girls, right? It was Scotland. Scotland. I always get it wrong. but What I would pack.

Katie Higgins: for say a trip to Paris. versus what i would pack for a trip to ireland okay different Oh. You kind of don't want. anything necessarily Corky Oh I'm out. Uh -oh. oh be good Except I really want to go hard. Unless, here's the deal.

Katie Higgins: They're gonna give you a hard time for it So as long as I'm okay with it. Right. And my thing is, I'm like, you know, Owen doesn't like a lot of people. Like... As a little attention to us as possible. Sure, sure, sure. And I get that. Sure. And so.

Katie Higgins: They... They will. ah harass you in a loving way. In a loving way. You know what's interesting about that? My husband harasses me all the time.

Katie Higgins: And there are times that I get... He's Irish. latin my married name is higgins literally they they come from a town that's called ahoygan Which I'm... so i'm i'm still furious that my last name isn't O 'Hoykin.

Katie Higgins: So it's changing. i Right. I asked Stephen, can we just change our name? He was like, no. i'm I'm not doing that. at this point and a lot of paper in my life. There is a lot of paperwork.

Katie Higgins: But listen to this. They they changed it to Higgins. his His ancestors changed it to Higgins when they came to the United States oh because it was more. Can't spell it. As opposed to a Huygen and then being. um uh,

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: Mm -hmm. or discriminated against. Yeah. So. I know. umm So maybe that's a little bit of the Irish in him and I need to. I need to cut him a little slack for that maybe. You just can't help it. I know. Well, he came.

Katie Higgins: Kim. Marriage thought. Are you Irish? I am. On your dad's side. No. No, your mom's side. Mom's side. Okay. Scotch Irish and Danish on moms. Okay. ah Check.

Katie Higgins: an Austrian I think that's Samantha German oh I think it's really when they left It was Bohemia still. so Oh, interesting. I am a real real Bohemian.

Katie Higgins: You do. I can see that. I can see that. yeah yeah, mostly check. okay on dad's side yeah Well, I cannot wait for tomorrow. I think Sophie Styles is going to be an incredible event. I cannot wait to just watch her.

Katie Higgins: Watch her and you do your thing. We're running. We can't wait. We can't wait. We're ready. Okay, so did you find out, Lindsay Clancy? It's no verdict yet. I heard a lot of the people yesterday saying they do think we're going to get a verdict today.

Katie Higgins: I don't know why they think that. I just don't. and then i And all of the commentators that like actually understand legal things have said they think it's either going to be not guilty or a hung jury.

Katie Higgins: e And I can see that. Because. It did seem from all of the, script's but I don't know what it was like to be in the jury and be sequestered. Right. And so that is different. I would be the worst person on earth. i think that you would be worse actually oh i would be so bad yeah you can hold your face A little, yes you can. When you have to be diplomatic, you can be. It's true. I cannot.

Katie Higgins: No, you, you would be worse than me. You would get kicked out. We both would get kicked out to be fair. It's just that I'd be kicked out first. yes You'd be right behind me. is what I think. I hope they wouldn't be like. Look at that girl.

Katie Higgins: Because then I would have to do something drastic. Well, because you know what bothers me about that? Is like. You can't just, and this is going to be just like maybe more specific to this case, but you just can't kick off a mom because she's moved by.

Katie Higgins: No. The mothering in this. Do we know what the makeup is on the jury? Oh! I saw this on TikTok last night. The only thing that has brought me back to TikTok is this trial.

Katie Higgins: And. So there was someone who said, okay, I was in the jury. I was there. we Press was finally allowed to see the jury jury yesterday. Press hasn't even been allowed to see them. And apparently it's majority women. 30 to 50. Oh. And if that is true, I'm thinking.

Katie Higgins: Unless they are And here, okay, and i i do I would like to discuss this as it because we're going to near wrapping up here, but this is something I would love to chat about. mm -hmm

Katie Higgins: Social media is destroying these two women, the prosecutors. And I'm going to be honest. I am in that crowd. of these women. But and so and so I've I've seen some, you know, but they're women, too, are like, oh, everyone's only supporting Lindsay Clancy because she's a woman. No, because none of us are supporting Casey Anthony.

Katie Higgins: and None of us are supporting these two prosecutors. Because it is so. Clearly a vendetta. against whatever they seem to think she is. I heard at one point they are treating it like family court.

Katie Higgins: Like nothing is off limits. That constant attack. Whereas. I think even in a criminal case, there's often that.

Katie Higgins: humanizing moment. of whether it's their upbringing. Or whatever else, right? like These were the set of circumstances. Okay. And I think. Anybody that.

Katie Higgins: has walked the motherhood path. Right. whatever that looks like. Sure. has at times been at their wits end.

Katie Higgins: Yes. Been at. All of that. And then if you couple that with somebody who maybe isn't the most supportive husband and father. Right. See, diplomatic. Like I said, you're so diplomatic. um I think.

Katie Higgins: It's really hard to stand on the sidelines of this and not feel compassion for her. so perfectly well said for I think how wait but the world has reacted. because it's not just the US now. It is the world. yet And I shared a video that I saw. I had no clue about this in.

Katie Higgins: the UK. They have what they call mother and baby units in the psychiatric hospital. Where. I saw a woman interviewed on one of their morning shows in London, like similar to what we would have for like Good Morning America.

Katie Higgins: And she was sharing her story about postpartum psychosis because of the Lindsay Clancy trial. And so this is, so not only is it just social media. picking up in other countries around the entire world this was making it to like their morning shows you know yeah and i she said when when she was experiencing postpartum psychosis her entire family went into...

Katie Higgins: um Supportive mode. and We're just going to keep going. We're just going to keep going because the audio says it's going. We don't know if the Oh, there we go. Okay. So just get the lag, I guess, at some point.

Katie Higgins: And she said when she was moved into the mother and baby unit and that that meant. She and her baby had around the clock care. They were together. And the baby was safe. But she was able to still. Be. with her baby.

Katie Higgins: Because that is so. important with all those hormones and all the things and the craziness and I... this This has been a fascinating trial, and I... I know that this girl, this woman, Lindsay Clancy and her children. Never wanted to be.

Katie Higgins: the poster for women's maternal health or women's health in general. But nevertheless, this this case is going to yeah change things. I hope it does. I hope it does. and But if she's found guilty, I it's i think we're just going to continue where we are.

Katie Higgins: yeah and that is Except that I saw. Apparently... at All the sources are saying Dr. Mac was fired. He was the second?

Katie Higgins: Rebuttal witness. That was supposed to be an expert witness from? The bald one. The bald one. The bald one. who was a, he was the one who said his first day on the stand that an episiotomy is a small tear.

Katie Higgins: And. this. meme went around that I did laugh out loud. I'd rather eat a jean jacket. Then listen to this man. Talk about an episiotomy and tell me what it is when I had an episiotomy and that shit is not comfortable. I have C -section. Okay. I, all three of mine were born.

Katie Higgins: the regular way the other way and traditional the traditional way but also c -section is traditional your baby came out and you're safe and healthy and so yes so well it's just it's just not the the it's not the through the birth we did the detour you did and i'm here to tell you it's it's I don't know how painful yours was, but mine. The recovery is hell. I think it's worse.

Katie Higgins: I also, when when I... Had Owen. Uh -huh. i did not we we did the induced labor yeah that's stuff that's a bitch i did not know It wasn't until like years later and somebody was talking to me, they're like, oh, what, Pitocin? Is that what it is? Uh -huh, Pitocin. They're like, oh my God, were the cramps horrible? It's like, I don't. They were just what I had. Interesting. I had no idea. So then Sophie was a Schedule C section because she was already a, okay. So Michael, I went into labor.

Katie Higgins: with Michael. And then they didn't give me Pitocin until later to just. Beat it up. But I went into labor. Then with the twins I was induced because I had they had to come out sure and That Pitocin was a nightmare. A nightmare. I will tell you, mayor with Owen, I was on Pitocin. I was a one.

Katie Higgins: For several hours. oh ah they They helped me. Ah, lovely! No. No. ah Get to a three. Yep. And at that point, my father came in.

Katie Higgins: um and said, I think it's time for you. to get the epidural. Yeah. Or were you trying not to? Well, I was told I had to get to a four. Oh. And I'm saying, well, I'm only at a one. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm hurting.

Katie Higgins: And then you went and... Got me manually to a three. Yeah. Not a comfortable day. when they put me It was shortly after that that they put me on oxygen. And that's when dad came in. and Oh. Okay.

Katie Higgins: It's time. Yeah, that's true. Okay. let Let's do this. Yes. um So yeah, i think I think it's hard to not view the case. with some kind of compassion and sympathy. And I do hope.

Katie Higgins: That. There is some sort of of of forward change. Yes. Four. mothers in this country. I remember when I was pregnant with Owen.

Katie Higgins: reading about in Germany. Okay. If you have a baby in Germany. for six weeks. A midwife shows up after the baby is born. What? Every week. How are you doing? Remember the show call Call the Midwife? I couldn't watch it. It made me cry too much. It's ah it's a lot.

Katie Higgins: But they would come and they would check on you after the baby was born. Wow. and I was like, why is this not a thing in America? Honest here, this is the country that's responsible for that.

Katie Higgins: Or at the, um monul no, the country was not. This is day. Hitler and the Holocaust came out of this country. Now look what they're doing. with their Listen! countries, we can change.

Katie Higgins: we can change Oh, my word. I mean, honestly, I would have paid for that. I mean, I understand healthcare care often comes at a cost in this country. Okay. Get it. I would have paid for that. I don't know what I'm doing.

Katie Higgins: Well, okay, did you watch Closing Arguments yesterday? Okay, so I only watched Kevin Reddington's because I'm going to be honest, I cannot listen to the prosecutor's talk. They're horrible. But I did go back and watch all the replay, like the clips that were like.

Katie Higgins: the the ones to watch. Sure. They literally said. Like one of the reasons they think she is. was in her right mind is like, this was a woman.

Katie Higgins: who had the means and the health insurance to get all the care she could get. Uh huh. There was. ah Like the comments were going and saying like when she said that I wanted to.

Katie Higgins: Just. hurl something at her because we know We're all, we all are in the healthcare care system. Uh -huh. Exactly. And like. I do have good, and by by so blood, sweat, and tears, my husband and I had to figure out insurance because we have a special needs son. And we now have.

Katie Higgins: the benefits that work well for our family. That doesn't mean shit's not expensive. Like. to And so, and and I don't think... Eh. And then also, what did your sign say that day at the No Kings protest?

Katie Higgins: It was so good. Like it was about privilege. And I loved what it said. It was so humble. Oh, it's an old one. It was so humble. They used it in the 60s. And I'm going to butcher it, but it's a privilege.

Katie Higgins: It's a privilege to be free or something like that. um They used it in the 60s. No, it was something like, don't let your privilege like get in your own way or something like that. Or you or if you have privilege, use it.

Katie Higgins: or Oh, it might have been that one, yeah. Oh. Dang. But it was literally i have four words. Oh, I, I, that's one of the things that I've become so aware of is my white privilege through my.

Katie Higgins: through my journey with having a special needs son. watching how much my at the time And at the time, he was very white and very blonde. I mean, he's still very white. i'm but ah There's no way I can say I'm not white.

Katie Higgins: He was very blonde though as a baby. And so here's this. White. blonde boy. who Who was adorable. i might Might I say. And he was discriminated against because of his disability noticeably to the point where I'm sitting there and like, I started to have this, this thought go through my head. And this is, this is a big part of where my shifts started happening to me is like.

Katie Higgins: Oh my god, I'm white. And people are treating me and my son like this. They. but No wonder. Yeah. No wonder we need things like Black Lives Matter because If I'm being treated like this, starting where I started to recognize my white privilege, By no means am I saying like, oh, if I'm being treated like this because I'm so - No, no, no. It was like, if I'm being - treated this way with my...

Katie Higgins: white. body and my son's white body and that um my son's being treated this way, how much worse? Right. does it get? And that's when I went, oh no. That's what like.

Katie Higgins: Like the scales fell from my eyes and I saw like. what my white privilege. really means yeah and then and so then when they threw that in to the thing yesterday.

Katie Higgins: It was like. i mean all women of all different cultures and colors were saying oh she didn't just go there yeah Nope. She did not just go there because here's the thing. Mental illness does not. discriminate. It does not.

Katie Higgins: And. um, And so then, so, so I'm like, I'm like, oh, I don't want to judge these women. Cause then it's like women hater, but though they are like carrying. ah They are wanting to crucify this woman is what it really feels like. Yeah. Yeah.

Katie Higgins: So hopefully by this time next week. Amen. we will have a verdict and I, and I do hope and pray that it is, and we can respond accordingly and we can respond accordingly. And, um, And hopefully this woman can...

Katie Higgins: you know With whatever the answer is, I hope she can find peace. Yes. in God's miraculous ways. so Well well that with that. I think it's probably time for wrap up. All right. um i don't know what we're going to talk about next week no i'm not but we'll we'll be here with bells on or drinks to clink there you go yeah yeah yeah Thanks for the... ah Cocktail ketchup. ah Thank you for the cocktail.

Katie Higgins: for the ketchup So that's it. Episode two, we have thoughts and, um, hope y 'all just feel like you're with your best friends drinking a cocktail and someone just happened to press record.

Katie Higgins: All right. Bye, y 'all. See ya.
