Katie Higgins: Okay, I think we're live. All right. Well, ah happy episode five. Is it five already? Five. I can't believe it. I yes i know. We're getting into a routine. I think we are. and i And I am enjoying, the more structure in my life.

Katie Higgins: the better. to just rein me in. I feel like I'm supposed to say same. But structure is hard for me. I think this is one of the few things. Yeah. where we'd be flip -flopped Well, or that... I would say lately.

Katie Higgins: I am structured at. oh Oh, that's actually interesting. I love that. i'm My undiagnosed, yeah yeah has been... rampant lately okay And this is like one of the only things.

Katie Higgins: I can... commit to it well also because um it's also not uh intense No, I, Oh, I have time to have a cocktail with you. Yeah. I think, is that what it comes down to? Exactly. Yeah. Like, like, uh,

Katie Higgins: yeah it does for me i'm not gonna lie yeah i'm not gonna lie so welcome to we have thoughts with Emily and Katie. Episode 5 So, cheers.

Katie Higgins: oh Yes, okay, so last week I did have a touch of the COVID. Last week. So we were. That coronavirus. I mean, listen. And. ah It was very short -lived.

Katie Higgins: And I still have a runny nose, but Not testing positive anymore and all of that and I've learned now the new you know asked of course chachabichi all the new protocols and all the things and and and there's really not a protocol protocol anymore. It's just like.

Katie Higgins: Hey girl, it's not 2020 anymore. No, it's not. It is not 2020. So. um But it's always nice to. You're like, oh, look at that. Okay. been there done that for a third time now and uh Moving on.

Katie Higgins: so So nice to be back. inside of the bookend they're getting ready for a cool little um event today it looks like so this is exciting We had to double check that it wasn't right now. We got a little nervous. That would have been. would have been tough. So um we both have autumn old fashions again. I do love mine. Yes, cheers to Lit for creating this beauty.

Katie Higgins: It is so wonderful. Okay, so... How has your week been? What ah what what has gone on? What has gone on? I was I what has gone on? Nothing much. It was just a lot of mom -in. Yeah. um You know? Yeah.

Katie Higgins: That's it. Oh, okay. um Yeah, how is... The... Because we're now on, what, week six of school? Nobody knows. Nobody knows. I know. Nobody knows. I feel the same way. Uh...

Katie Higgins: We are getting accustomed. to public school. Okay. um So. and Have we covered this? that For the first time ever, my children are going to public school. We may not have said like said like that piece of it. Like, oh, they're going to new schools, but it could have just been like, oh, it's because they're now these new grades, you know? So yeah, first time ever in public school. First time ever in public school. And they are they are getting used to it.

Katie Higgins: Um. It... is different. And. The biggest thing being. There are so many people. And I think, yeah.

Katie Higgins: We have a special delivery. Oh, and go all right. Okay. I'm going to hold my mic. I will. I will. We have a special delivery. I know. So this morning. When Emily and I were chatting about. ah ah catching up today, recording today.

Katie Higgins: I sent over like my notes. for some of the things I wanted to catch up on because one of the things I've been most excited to tell her about. is our Southwest experience this past.

Katie Higgins: weekend. for um for me and for my son, Michael. who is 15 now. He just turned 15. His birthday was September 20th. So it was just this past Sunday that he turned 15 and Michael.

Katie Higgins: has autism. And. Don't you worry. Oh, and he's he is going to fly, it looks like. He's just come back from flying. Oh, he's just come back from flying. Okay. So there's my well, then I'm going to go ahead and just tell my story. Okay. So I was so excited to tell.

Katie Higgins: um Emily about this because So yesterday we were flying home from. Reagan. at rate from D .C. And. We were on Southwest.

Katie Higgins: which we is typically while we fly. Cause you know, we're in Houston hobby is right there. And so good. Well, so Justin is a captain for. Southwest. And. They...

Katie Higgins: Did up Michael's birthday like... you wouldn't believe. Um, first. And so I was so excited to be like, Oh. I know where I can.

Katie Higgins: probably find a stockpile of these. He probably will like that one, the Herb Kelleher one. Well, it's not a Herb Kelleher one specifically. Oh, Herb Kelleher. I keep saying it wrong.

Katie Higgins: Well Justin, thank you. Yeah, you're welcome. michael After Michael being very upset yesterday, his response was, well, I am cheered up now. Yeah. when he was given a trading card.

Katie Higgins: And his card is a Florida. Plane. Oh. Okay, and so he at first he thought it was a ticket to Florida. Oh, well, and I would be cheered up too. I know. And so we said, well, no, it's, um.

Katie Higgins: it's a trading card like for like the airplanes. Thanks, honey. and Thank you, Justin. So one day I want to fly on a plane. Justin's flying. Uh, so we have, I got four. Okay. Okay. So we have heart one. Ooh. Okay. Which is like just the traditional livery. Okay. Livery. livery i think that's how you pronounce it okay yeah that's what this is you're right livery the bold new visual identity unveiled in 2014 okay

Katie Higgins: Then what the newest one they just rolled out this year okay is the Independence One. It's a 1776 plane. Oh, I have not flown on this one. um So it's in honor of our 250th year. you would think this one would fly to DC maybe.

Katie Higgins: I could maybe be on that route I don't know i know interest interesting I think the first one did. Oh, interesting. Okay. But then not to be confused with Liberty one. Okay. Now I also have learned.

Katie Higgins: I love a MAX 8 plane. Oh yeah. I love a Max 8. They've got chargers. And I think, aren't aren't the Max 8s? the ones that play the music when you get on. Yes, there's music. And they have like lighting. There's music, there's mood lighting. And there's like that.

Katie Higgins: Little like buffet table. I know that's not the right but it's like when you first get on it's like a there's like a A low table there for the flight attendants. Oh, okay, okay. Yes, yes, yes. I do know what you're talking about. So you have Liberty One. Okay, okay. And then, of course.

Katie Higgins: Okay, let's see. Lone Star 1. Oh! the uh texas plate it was debuted in 1990 oh my gosh so there you go michael i michael's gonna be so and also this is not the card you got yesterday I know. So that's amazing. That's amazing. Yeah. Justin's got like a whole stash of them. I mean, Michael was so excited. And literally when he was showing Steven, my husband, Steven was like, I.

Katie Higgins: bet i know where we could get a lot i was like well but we cannot we cannot use our connection Yeah, you can. But but I apparently can. I apparently can. so They Southwest outdid themselves yesterday.

Katie Higgins: For Michael's birthday. First of all the entire gate End it up. like doing a whole cheering happy birthday situation like before we got on as we were getting it because michael likes to tell everybody he meets that it was either His birthday is tomorrow. His birthday is today is my birthday or my birthday was yesterday. And then today it'll be my birthday was two days ago.

Katie Higgins: My birthday was Sunday. Did you know I turned 15 on September 20th? You know what I mean? It's going to go on. It's going to go on for a while. Okay? Michael loves his birthday. ta And so we're getting on the plane and he tells the lady. that that's scanning our boarding passes that it's his birthday And I did get it on. It was so precious.

Katie Higgins: And then we get on the plane. He, of course, tells all of the flight attendants it's his birthday. Well, and then we had one of those flights where they spoiled him the whole way through. Michael loves a snack. Michael got unlimited snacks, unlimited. um Coke Zeros until I said no more Coke Zero. Did they make him a birthday cake?

Katie Higgins: No. How do they make? Whoa. Okay. Well, okay. Okay. No, I'm not telling him about this. I'm not telling him about this. Don't tell him about it, but I bet Justin can get you one. Cause every year he always flies on his birthday. He always gets one. Right, right, right. Yeah. But it's out of toilet paper. Oh!

Katie Higgins: um that they make a birthday cake how adorable um they used to although now that they kind of changed up their drink program they used to make pretzel crowns, but I don't think they do that anymore. I do kind of remember seeing maybe a photo or a video of that at some point.

Katie Higgins: At. like a But they spoiled her. They did. They did. And... um They spoiled mom too. Like at some point I got a, I got a second. poor rough. wine and um They knew mom needed it. I was really grateful for that. I was really grateful for that. so Uh...

Katie Higgins: Well, then there was apparently something that happened at Hobby yesterday to small private planes. clipped each other's wings. And so the, um no one was hurt. It was all, but it was, yeah it was, a it was a mess.

Katie Higgins: yes is what it sounds like this top really like balloon this is what wasn't my best choice to wear on it I know, but that's where. you know i swear your your hair looks amazing i'm not crazy about my hair today really

Katie Higgins: but it looks incredible. The bangs feel very PC today. Oh, okay. I don't like that. It's like, make up your mind. Yeah. I am not a fan of how I look at all. in this light but it's okay but i but yeah moving on we're we're gonna be big girls got a beverage on good ah So we ended up having to, so we were circling for.

Katie Higgins: I must have like. falling asleep. at some point And. We ended ended up having to go to Austin to... land they refueled and then we within an hour we were right back up in the air Mm hmm.

Katie Higgins: and we were able to land at Hobby. and we were supposed to land at three we landed at six yep like it was a it was a long time in the year. We were in the air a very long time. Like. Six solid hours. Well, except for the... hour we were.

Katie Higgins: at austin right at the austin airport but we were on the plane for six hours and Michael at this point is not. pleased. pleased with anything. at all He still loves being on the plane, but he's getting fidgety. He's getting tired. or He also, I'm texting with my husband, Steven. So we had to push back plans, you know, to. um Have.

Katie Higgins: his parents over to our house for his birthday last night. So he was getting really upset and agitated. And I had to like, you know, I talked him down, all those things. well he we We're walking off the plane. And he's of course asked telling everyone, you know, okay.

Katie Higgins: wish, you know, what is, what's my last thing? What's the last thing you say to me? Oh, happy birthday, Michael. Well, so he sees the pilots and he he tells both of them it's my birthday. Well, they give him a trading card. And he walks off that plane.

Katie Higgins: Where I am on the. Jetway thingy. And he's like, Okay, I am cheered up now. I am cheered up now. And I was like, oh. Thank you.

Katie Higgins: Jesus for this card. It is a card of miracles. because He is now. Cheered up. As he says. And um we were able to make it to the next thing before he got agitated again. Because at that point, like...

Katie Higgins: you know everyone is You know, when you're on, when any day anytime your plans or whatever, you know, but you you keep it in, right? Or you, whatever. Well, when you're Michael and you're. and or and you're autistic and it's been a really long day of you managing it all of your emotions and behaviors and all that, you know, I get it. like we're We're at our end of managing behaviors. Yeah.

Katie Higgins: And so he did really well, but it was like one thing to the next thing. to the next thing until we were home. End. It could just be. you know whatever but i was like oh thank god for this card and thank god for southwest i'm sure other airlines i have not flown another airline uh i know delta does it do they okay one it's just I just you mean the...

Katie Higgins: I mean the... the The hoopla? The whole, all the things. It's all the things that Southwest does that. really does. Make a difference. They really do try.

Katie Higgins: they really do and you know if this was a world where continental airlines still existed You know, I feel continental always. Did that too. I used to fly. you know, so before Steven and I, my husband and I were long distance. So I flew.

Katie Higgins: Literally every... Like or like every we would see each other every other weekend But every other weekend, it would be either him or me. yeah i was flying so like I would end up flying twice a month. Does that make... whatever it was i ended up flying twice a month ish yeah and at the time it was united And I would fly from Bush to Reagan.

Katie Higgins: Same gates, that you know, it was the same thing every time. mm -hmm um So I didn't fly. Southwest as much. Back then I flew United all the time because that's just too fluted to you see. What? Do you remember continent? That was a great comeback. I... vaguely.

Katie Higgins: oh they were great really and every now and then you will be on a united flight And they will say. This flight was. you know, brought to you by a continental crew or something. And its like, you can tell the whole service. Really? And there have been times where we have flown.

Katie Higgins: And at some point I'll run into one of the flight attendants in the galley and I will ask because. You can tell. A continental. Really? They. I mean, not knocking anybody else. Anybody else, no. But continental.

Katie Higgins: was in ah in a class all their own They were fabulous. Really? Yeah. i um one of michael's so i went to dc this past weekend this this sounds like i live a much cooler life than I do these past few weeks. Cause I went to New York and I went to an orchestra clinic. Oh, listen. Well, Hey, soon enough, you'll be jet setting across the ocean again. You will, you will, you will. You're almost there.

Katie Higgins: Oh, oh, is it official? Well, no, nothing's official until but you actually are on the plane. I see, because it's the non -rep. That's right, that's right. um Oh, well, how exciting. It'll be such a... i know Actually, the the next three weeks, and there's a lot of travel, actually. respect. That's right. Yeah. l LA. And then the, yeah. Oh, I'm so excited. There's a lot going on actually. Okay.

Katie Higgins: uh Well, so my sister. and my brother -in -law and my nieces live in DC and they've been there for 20 plus years. And. uh or my sister has and then as you know met her husband there got married has had you know, my two nieces, all that. so DC is very like.

Katie Higgins: Just where my sister lives. It's not as much like. the nation's capital but There really are. I mean, it is such a cool city. it It really is such a cool city, even though. I don't love the political climate right now. One of the things I love about being in DC is that I don't.

Katie Higgins: I forget. Whatever the political climate is because you're not rammed down your throat. Well, it's really not because The staffers. they don't want to talk about You know what I mean? Because it's their daily life.

Katie Higgins: So maybe that's where I need to go. may I mean, there is, there is something about DC where you go. Hmm. Everyone here... we don't i mean like don't be wrong in their in their nine to five or eight to five or whatever it is they do they're But they're they're living it. You know what I mean? Yeah. So when they come home, they don't.

Katie Higgins: want to talk about it so like with my sister like She will and with my my sister brother -in -law they will because they know people want to talk to them about it Um, because they both have had really cool careers.

Katie Higgins: But... But they don't. You know, like they don't want to talk about politics and like their friends, they don't want to talk about politics. And so it is a really. being there with people that work.

Katie Higgins: on the hill. The staffers are very, very different from politicians. Like. I think that's maybe the best way to say it. yeah is that yeah, staffers are different than politicians.

Katie Higgins: And. even if they are on different sides of the aisle. They all work together. together because they have to. Now you're going to get your like. not great ones, but like.

Katie Higgins: Like any workplace, but it is, it's a very different thing. And since we've been going for so long, Michael has always. loved He loves... the government. He loves...

Katie Higgins: He likes to rule. It loves an ID of sorts. He loves something official. like a uniform and so he's always been a great like people would always ask me like wow how do you How do you manage your autistic kid? traveling and i was like no listen i cannot take any credit for this i've just got lucky that one of his like obsessions is security and official things and uniforms and identification. and So he is very much.

Katie Higgins: is so happy at an airport or in DC where there is so many things that are official. Well, he loves the museums. Loves, loves, loves. And so. because it was his birthday we went and i just followed him around basically like he got to do whatever he wanted And it's so awesome because the museums are free. The Smithsonian Museum. Yeah, you literally can just go like.

Katie Higgins: That's amazing. gallup Because, you know, it's ah it's expensive to go to a museum. So. Um. So we did air and space. I did make him go inside the Natural History Museum because I always love to see the Hope Diamond. It's just stunning every time.

Katie Higgins: and all of the gyms and like the rock and gym area is so gorgeous So he tolerated me for that. And then his favorite is the American History Museum where there is like. the Hall of First Ladies, all of the presidents.

Katie Higgins: uh, american entertainment so they have they have julia child's kitchen is there What? Somewhere. I've never seen that.

Katie Higgins: I'm starting to think this is fake because everybody's like, I didn't know that was there. i like Is it in its own? wing i don't know okay i will have to investigate this because i've been on every floor of that museum Well, I know somewhere at.

Katie Higgins: In D .C. at a Smithsonian. Okay, so maybe I didn't go to the right one. Maybe, but I would have thought if it's in the... You'd think the American History. The bet Julia Child's Kitchen is there.

Katie Higgins: I will. Report back. go Go now. yeah i'm gonna get back on the plane okay for another six hours thank you um uh but like uh the one i always do love seeing is um

Katie Higgins: Wizard of Oz Dorothy's red slippers are there. Her ruby slippers. One of many, but yes. Oh, okay. Okay. Well, I'd imagine this person would have a good one. Yes. So. Well, for the show, for the movie, they made several. Of course. Like the props department had several. Sure, sure. So that was my weekend and got to be with my precious little angel nieces. yet cheers to Southwest for, uh,

Katie Higgins: their trading cards yes and all the things and i will tell you most pilots do have them okay in their bag so if you are on a flight and you are curious most

Katie Higgins: do you have to ask but you have to ask them okay like um because it's like a special thing it's a special thing they don't just hand them out willie unless you're me and you have connections Um, but Justin, he's, he's started to really get into it and realize, I think he's, he's, he's he's enjoying captain life in this sense of like.

Katie Higgins: Um.

Katie Higgins: Not like Santa Claus, but. No, I love that. But you know, like yeah you everybody has that one really fun uncle, like. Okay. You know, that just kind of treats everybody. He just gets to go out for the good stuff. Okay. Okay. Okay. Yeah. So the captain is like that. Kind of. I mean, like, yes, he. does operate the aircraft and of that but did you ever watch It's called The Rehearsal.

Katie Higgins: Bye. Shoot. Oh, we were just talking about his name. we as in you and me no justin and i okay okay so it's a show called um The rehearsal.

Katie Higgins: I'm telling you, this perimenopause brain. Listen, it's so bad. um because he's just he's coming out with a new one with um the gal Uh, oh.

Katie Higgins: Brain. um the ah Theranos. The Theranos Gale. Elizabeth Holmes. I don't know who Elizabeth Holmes is. But this is one of those things, if I saw a photo of her, I would know who it is. This is going to be your next obsession. Okay, okay, okay.

Katie Higgins: So Nathan Fielder, I think is his name. Okay. Let me look this up because now I'm going to be. So it's a show. Okay. It's called The Rehearsal. And he is a method actor. And so episode one of this season.

Katie Higgins: He um is essentially trying to figure out why there have been so many um aircraft tragedies.

Katie Higgins: Okay. Crashes, collisions, et cetera. And this is Netflix, you said? Ooh. know what it's oh just i'll just go to support okay let me just i don't know what it's We watched it. It was great. um And so he essentially.

Katie Higgins: builds a whole Um... Airport. Okay. Aircraft. He ends up getting his pilot's license through the course of this. um He hires actors who like. follow around actual air Oh, people okay. HBO Max. And.

Katie Higgins: They essentially figure out. The issue, and it's it's a known issue. Okay. in aviation. and And that is communication, pilot communication. So years ago, um it's it's called CRM.

Katie Higgins: is the official title of it, but it's... I don't understand. Like customer. crew oh okay because crm is like this management maybe okay crew resource okay Ugh.

Katie Higgins: And what it is. CRM is also used like in. for like customer relationship management. so crm is more numerous things this is a crew one crew okay and so what it is let's see that

Katie Higgins: For many, many years, first officers or co -pilots did not feel like they could speak up against something a captain was doing. Oh! And like for years, they always use this one clip. I think it's a Robert Stack and John Wayne film. And John Wayne just slaps the snot out of the co -pilot. And it's like, I'm the captain of this. Like you listen to me. Because for so many years, like the captain is gone. It was a no -no. Right?

Katie Higgins: And. so And, like, you need that. You need. I mean, you want. You need someone that is in control a doesn and make and, like, I make the decision right in a in a situation. But...

Katie Higgins: So with this show. fabulous you got to watch the entire season for it to make sense okay um and Uh... but Actually, a guy that Justin went through training with.

Katie Higgins: Is what in it. He is one of the resources. Okay. I'm adding this. Captain All Ears. Is his name. Oh my gosh.

Katie Higgins: He proposes, and I think he goes all the way to Congress. And ah like it speaks to one of the panels. of or hearings or something and it's Hey, you have to have.

Katie Higgins: Good. crew relationships and um So it starts basically the minute you arrive at the airport, this. you know, When you show up to the crew lounge, when you show up to the aircraft and there's just like this.

Katie Higgins: chit chat amongst the crew okay you want When you go to the airport to see that. You want to see them. happy together yes not silent in their own corners so it was really fascinating to watch with justin because he's like he actually does this like when i go to the crew lounge.

Katie Higgins: Like, I'm there to look at all my paperwork and all of that. I'm not there to make friends. He's like, okay, but I need you to. But you need to be making friends. And he has really started to lean into all of this. And so he goes to... Whenever he's at a place, he will pick up the trading card. Oh, I love it. and you know he'll interact and I will say Southwest has an amazing culture. Okay. that the The staff do hang out.

Katie Higgins: when they get to a hotel they all go out to dinner together often And they have. a really great rapport. Yeah. I mean, Well, and you got to think about, especially on the heels of 9 -11.

Katie Higgins: and it being the 25th anniversary and hearing, and I feel like there was a, like I did read quite a few so stories that said. i'm I'm finally telling this for the. after 25 years, but I couldn't until now or whatever.

Katie Higgins: And. You definitely. i can you I can see that in those stories that you you want your crew to be a team. Yeah! Because it makes a difference. Something that's really. taught i think chris and i think maybe some of that comes from a lot historically

Katie Higgins: And this is totally Emily's own idea. This is not something proven. But historically, most pilots get their training from the military. Okay. And if you think of the hierarchy within the military. Do not. You're not. questioning your your major or colonel or general those are the only ones i know yeah i think i think the captain's in there oh captain as well yeah well well ah because that's what That's what Justin is. But I know it's not military, but that's the one I know. But you have Captain Von Trapp.

Katie Higgins: Go! So there you go. There you go. Okay. But you don't question. You're superior. Right. And I think historically. And I know. factually many pilots. that fly commercially.

Katie Higgins: are former military. So I wonder if there's a bit of that. A bit of that, yes. As well. And I mean, it totally makes sense. It really does. Like why they would. you know, have the hierarchy and or Justin just being.

Katie Higgins: He wants to review his paperwork. He wants to know what's happening with the weather the plane and the weather and all of that So all good things. um but then yeah there is something to be said i mean i can i'm not flying a plane But.

Katie Higgins: you know just owning a company and having i mean at one point i had 27 employees now i have two Like. it It matters. Yeah you know yeah yeah and i mean even team matters yeah like there have been times where justin has been on a flight and the flight attendant you know employee numbers like 47.

Katie Higgins: Oh, what does that mean? Like they're they've been there forever. Oh, lay okay. They're like the OGs. Yeah. Like they were there when they were wearing hot pants. Oh man. And.

Katie Higgins: They have no issue. Letting go. what the issue is. And Justin has oh no issue saying yes, ma 'am. Oh, I love that. He's like, no, I i trust her. with yeah She says there's an issue on the plane and she needs me to. Jump in.

Katie Higgins: I will do that. I will do it. But she will also tell me, ah honey, you sit down. I've got this. And oh yes, ma 'am. My gosh. You know, so. Well, what's okay. What's so funny about that is I. I mean, that was in the 70s, right? that They were the hobbyists. Oh, yeah. So.

Katie Higgins: At the Air and Space Museum, they did have this whole section of, like, I was so excited. I was like, wait, whoa, one of those pretty dresses, one of those pretty dresses. And I go over there and it was all the uniforms throughout the years.

Katie Higgins: And. um it was oh man there were some gorgeous ones you know i think it would be fabulous to design to bring them back. The uniforms? Yeah. or now an airline Now I also get it. like The point was to have super sexy. oh yeah flight attendants to attract male there was businessmen but so we don't want that there were height and weight requirements but bring back these outfits because they are freaking fun. now Or the the fun ones, not the slutty ones. Now, I will say.

Katie Higgins: Lufthansa. In honor of Oktoberfest, just released the cutest. And I think it's from like. Maybe Asia to Munich, I believe, are the are the flights. But they're, like, all dirndls and, like, very smart. Okay. just well things I feel like that would just be so much fun to be.

Katie Higgins: A designer. So Southwest, if you're listening, I would love to design for you. Yes. I have less zero ah expertise in this other than a lot of opinions. um Electric kittens. Let's design for Southwest. Why not? Why not? Right? okay Unknown designer.

Katie Higgins: design time on well wasn't it zach posen did it for was it Delta? Well, okay, I have no idea, but okay. Mai? current television obsession. Which...

Katie Higgins: i'm so excited about because i've been in a tv rut Do you ever get, like, you know when you, do you go through a phase where you have There's nothing to watch. There's nothing to watch. Or you had watched something that was so good. And you connected with it so much that you just absolutely are like.

Katie Higgins: We'll back sit. There's nothing nothing good. And I can't watch it. for the fourth time. Nope. is Or at least not right back to back. Right. Okay. I will tell you what mine is. but what Oh, what is it? Mine is Seeking Persephone.

Katie Higgins: Oh, it was fabulous. It's a four -part series if you have curls. It's good. Okay. It's very clean. It's kind of a Beauty and the Beast -y situation. Persephone and Hades retelling. Oh. But it's darling.

Katie Higgins: um like the greek gods like mythology oh interesting uh i think maybe in the lake district of england in the 1800s oh so a period drama okay But very clean. Okay, love.

Katie Higgins: what's yours okay i know well right now i'm watching emily in paris and i have never seen it i have i okay When it first came out... I started watching it and I was like and I just didn't get into it I just couldn't. Well, I feel like it came out in like 19 or 20.

Katie Higgins: it Okay, let's see. When did it come out? I'm on season four. There's one more season. And then there's, I think going to be the final season. So maybe it came out in 21. is something like that.

Katie Higgins: It would 2020 or 21 would have to be. Yeah. because i remember when it came out it was right after i in 19 when i went to paris okay And then COVID happened. Okay. And everything was just. Sad and horrible. sad Yeah. And I remember thinking, I don't want to see how fabulous Paris is because we can't go there. Because I can't go. Okay. Sure, sure, sure. So I feel like it was around then. And so I never watched it. Okay.

Katie Higgins: I... Have no, eye I can't even tell you. I just remember. trying to watch it and I just didn't get hooked. i don't I couldn't tell you why. Wrong time? It was just the wrong time.

Katie Higgins: And I do love that about a show or a book or whatever that like you can. Um. pick it up another time pick it up another time and it's okay and then it's it meets you where you are you know um So I, but listen, my mom and her boyfriend, Don.

Katie Higgins: Dawn loves this show. And so they've been talking about it, how funny it is. And I was like, wait a minute. Okay, maybe I need to give it another shot because I've been in such a television rut. The only thing I want to watch is true crime documentaries or the live trials, yes which we'll talk about the 60 Minutes episode. in a minute but um it was like but i had also read something you had given me a book the paris novel Yeah. And.

Katie Higgins: I loved it. It was so... calming I don't know if that's the right word, but something about reading it was calming. and It was. And then right after that, I read.

Katie Higgins: Mad Mabel, which I was obsessed with. Oh my God, such a good book. And then I read Calamity Club. Also. incredibly good. So I'd had these three. very good books. So TV was just.

Katie Higgins: I couldn't find anything. Anyway, so now I'm watching though. I'm watching. Emily in Paris. And I am now on season. My hair is driving me crazy today. I'm touching it so much. that I just stopped.

Katie Higgins: Uh... I'm watching season four. I'm in season four now on Netflix. There's one more season on Netflix. And then I believe I've seen season six will be the final season. I have... gotten so I'm so into this show.

Katie Higgins: Would I like it? I think you would. Yeah. I think you would like seeing Paris. Paris, for sure. The fashion's fantastic. Like, so good.

Katie Higgins: And. um It's funny. Now, I will say there is a... um There's like a love triangle situation that I'm really getting bored with Like I'm just getting bored. Like, okay.

Katie Higgins: Shit or get off the podcast. Yes. And also, like... Yeah, we're on - The fourth season, we're still talking about the same damn love triangle? Like, no. Figure it out. Move on. Figure it out. Break up with both or figure it out. Exactly.

Katie Higgins: And... But there the other i love the like the supporting characters, I'm obsessed with. Mindy, Luke, and Julian, I'm obsessed with.

Katie Higgins: And so and they make me laugh and it's funny. And but yeah, I will admit I am getting bored right now with this love triangle. It's really got to be over with or else I am going to get bored. But I'm also going to just.

Katie Higgins: power through these episodes, you know? Yeah. Now. And what's so funny, that was the episode I just watched. They. had a designer that they their marketing firm represents that was designing Four.

Katie Higgins: new New uniforms for Air France! i know So it was this idea of a designer coming in and making the. Um. making incredible uniforms.

Katie Higgins: I know. So I thought that was really fun. And so cool. And okay. And then here. She, Emily. Lily Collins. Wears boots.

Katie Higgins: All the time. I mean, they all wear heels like in this show. They're all wearing heels all the time. Which I'm just going to say, if you've never been to Paris, it feels very unrealistic. Cobblestones and things. Well, the amount of walking you do. The amount of walking. Doing the metro, all of the stairs.

Katie Higgins: Like, nobody can walk that efficiently in heels in Paris. No. Just because of the amount sheer amount of steps and stairs. Right, you have - To do. Yes.

Katie Higgins: And they walk so st - sturdily. stur They're so sturdy in their heels. Yeah, no and that's not real But... So while they though, while in, but her outfits, Lily Collins, she wears so many boots.

Katie Higgins: And I'll... Boots have just not been. Bye. Uh... my strength. in my i'm a great purchaser of food are you a great purchaser wearer.

Katie Higgins: Okay. I own boots. uh -huh But they are not my, I don't gravitate to them. You don't gravitate to them. And I don't know, is that because we live in Houston and the humidity? Sure. And everything else. Let alone the heat.

Katie Higgins: I don't know. But I don't gravitate to a boot. I do love. purchasing of it. I... I mean, right? They're so beautiful. There's so much that goes into a food that makes you want to buy it yeah justin got me one year for christmas these fabulous cream patent jeffrey campbell like We were just talking about this. Chunky boots. okay I don't think I've worn them once. I love them. I love looking at them in my closet. Yes.

Katie Higgins: Yeah. I don't know if they've they've taken a spin yet. Interesting. And I understand. I understand. I have a pair of Mirren Crosby boots. um that are a Western.

Katie Higgins: Boots. They are pink. and metallic it's something i would wear and i do not reach for them And I see other people wearing. These exact same boots.

Katie Higgins: With everything and I just don't even i don't they don't even they don't even occur in my brain So watching this show. I feel like it's like when I was...

Katie Higgins: you know, wanting to wear hats. And I still don't love a hat, I'm going to be honest. It's not my favorite article. Like a ball cap? or Any hat. Any sort of hat. any sort of hat.

Katie Higgins: I don't love a hat. It's not gonna be something that I just go for. But I do feel. comfortable in a hat now. like if I I just got an L in my eye. if I have to wear a hat or if the outfit just screams for a hat or if my hair is dirty.

Katie Higgins: I can now wear a hat. without feeling like a clown. I used to feel

Katie Higgins: What kind of hat? Anyhow. any hu Anyhow. A hooker. Like it just looked very costumey and like a seedy. costume kind of way. Like you were trying to hide.

Katie Higgins: under your hat well no i am so intrigued by this is the theme of this Rated show Like. Oh, girl wears hat.

Katie Higgins: um it just looked a little I don't know. Can I am say the P word on here? I don't know i don't like that word, so I'm going to suggest no. But... That's what I felt I looked like every time.

Katie Higgins: It just looked costumey in an adult way. Like them. Female anatomy? Is that what you mean by the P word? Female anatomy.

Katie Higgins: P word. Like a cat?

Katie Higgins: No. Oh, what P word are you talking about? Like, um... Like... Okay, because I was thinking female. I hate that word, the female anatomy. Oh, no, I looked like a... Like I was in a porn show. ah Like a theme. Like, like, like, like.

Katie Higgins: Oh, P is porn? P is porn. peace I think you can say porn. That's totally fine.

Katie Higgins: Well, I don't get creeped out by that word. well And when I say creeped out. By a word, it's that I have this, like, I have this visceral reaction to certain words. And smells. And smells. And it's got it's definitely my OCD. I think it has to be because it's something that only other like. I got nervous today because I actually, I put a hair perfume in today and then on my way here, I realized, oh no. I don't think you like this particular scent. Oh, uh -oh. But she hasn't made a face yet. I haven't made a face. You'll know. So you'll know.

Katie Higgins: i um I am. I'm so very, I'm very overwhelmed by certain smells. and by certain words And it's like, it it must be the way my brain processes them. because it's like because it is a visceral reaction that i get in my body and i know it's irrational too like i can 100 admit to that um but a hat in a is makes you feel like you're in a porn movie not anymore not anymore

Katie Higgins: i I don't think I'm ever going to get over this. But like, I mean, I recently. You look good in a hat too. And I learned that I do now. Yes. But it it is interesting, isn't it? How it admit you have to like. I don't know if it was like the pink doe eye, you know, in my twenties.

Katie Higgins: In late teens of, like... Big eyes. Okay. And you're thinking, when you say, you're thinking of like. old school porn where it was like This cheesy movie.

Katie Higgins: Yeah, I don't know what porn looks like, period, well but... Now I feel weird. i just know it's not as it's not as um like the cheese i don't watch porn but like Yeah. But I've seen it. you know yeah so but like you know there you know in the and it used to be the cheesy Pinup!

Katie Higgins: And like. Oh, I'm... am i i'm here to fix the copier you know yeah and now it's i don't think it's like that anymore I think it's like... girl do this, guy do that. And it's, yeah, it's not.

Katie Higgins: it's I think that's why there's so much human trafficking. But I now can wear a hat. like you, for a long time. I felt like I was trying. Even when y 'all had Gigi Pick come out. years ago you looked you just owned those hats i mean i would buy them well but what i mean owned by like you when you wore it you looked like you could do it you know but I think confident it took a long time.

Katie Higgins: for me to have it Bye! and i will say i am struggling i don't know what is your thought on this should i pack my cowboy hat for the concert this weekend. In l LA? Mm -hmm. in In Beverly Hills.

Katie Higgins: And it's it's a country singer. It's Country Singer. I think you should. But I think it's a standing situation. like as a standing call like there's okay so you're worried about people behind you i am I think you should pack it.

Katie Higgins: Okay. And then I was going to say, love it I got it. room but i I got it. A custom hat. uh in fort worth this last year on the garden you need to take it you need to take it um do you want to know what i when he said what kind of of course i do because they ask you a million questions oh and i don't know all the answers i'd be like and i'm like look at my head tell me what you think i mean it was basically what it was he goes well what kind of brim do you want what kind of crown do you want and i said

Katie Higgins: Make it look... Like. I can get up on that horse and goddamn fix it, but I'm too rich now to take care of it. I love it. And he goes, I've never been given those obs instructions before.

Katie Higgins: Let's go figure it out. Welcome to the world. and or welcome Figure it out. yeah me I know how to fix it, but make it look like I'm too rich to actually fix it. I'm obsessed with this. Ladies and gentlemen, and Emily Shearer.

Katie Higgins: There you go that's that's what i love because see here's the thing when you were wearing gg pit back then i would have thought you've been wearing hats confidently you know for years. no No, it really just started with oh my friends are selling hats. I'll go buy one. Let me get a hat um Well, okay. So interesting. It's, is it, I.

Katie Higgins: I love. I think it's so good for people to hear. these kinds of things, because I think people really do. look at what they would consider a fashionable person and think, oh, they just. woke up like that.

Katie Higgins: no like even even like super fashionable people that are naturally drawn to elements of fashion Like. Because I think people would probably be like now at least where I am. with with the way I dress, we would be like. just wear a boot. I'm like, but no, I've got to like.

Katie Higgins: I got to like yeah get in the mindset and like. Now where I am differently now is I know that I have to make a decision to wear boots. And see if they are for me. right Now, they may not be for me.

Katie Higgins: And that will be perfectly fine. But at this moment, I don't know. Cause I'm seeing all these outfits that she wears all these boots with. And I'm thinking. I have not given boots a fair shot.

Katie Higgins: I'm very intimidated by them. I love buying boots when I bring them home. then they don't get picked up to where I don't. Okay. I'm going to need to see these Jeffrey Campbell. boots They're really cute.

Katie Higgins: Well, okay, so I got some new Jeffrey Campbell's. I got. The hoofs. Well, bring it down so they can see the hoof. The hoof. Okay. I do not support this decision. i I'm going to be really honest. I don't dis support this decision either.

Katie Higgins: And I don't get it. I don't get it either. i I still think they look like a camel toe. And like I am trying to be a camel. Or... some sort of hoofed animal. yep

Katie Higgins: They are so comfortable. that When I found these at Nordstrom on like. literally, I think 80 % off. You gotta do it. I said I'm getting them. I think we know why it was 80 % off.

Katie Higgins: it Exactly. exactly because they were like people aren't buying these people are not buying The hoof. But then people like me. are gonna buy the hoof because we got it on sale.

Katie Higgins: And like when I tell you this looks like a grandma shoe. Do I not, this is, I am. Off the foot. It looks like a grandma weird shoe. It does. It does. Some sort of orthopedic. Some sort of orthopedic.

Katie Higgins: On the put, it's not as offensive. It is not as offensive. But... the I think I remember. I mean, it's been years now. but Remember when the when it came around the first time? The hoof. Mhm. Nope. See, I don't even remember when it came around the first time. oh We were in the throes of having kiddos. Oh, so then I definitely didn't know. so Now, I do remember Stephen had these shoes called Vibram. Oh, my sister had those too. I know, it was all the toes. Did he have an attitude with them? Oh, big time. oh They were snobby as hell.

Katie Higgins: Walking around in his five rooms in his. five feet. Excuse me. I'm in my vibe room. I'm in my vibe room. I'm basically barefoot. This is the best way to run. You look like a weirdo. Exactly. And.

Katie Higgins: Are you actually running? because i will say when i i adore my husband but he wasn't actually running in those shoes when i started pilates you didn't you used him well i didn't use vibrams but you had the fingered so Socks. Socks.

Katie Higgins: So that you could stretch your toes. Every time. And I'm slipping them on each of the toes. And every time I thought about it. And finally... I found socks that are just, they look like a regular crew sock. Okay. I'm much happier in those.

Katie Higgins: But seeing each little toe. it was very creepy i don't like it well so there is just something i will that i that because they were seriously on sale and because i also love jeffrey campbell so i was like okay fine they're on sale they're jeffrey campbell and they are so freaking comfortable and um julia has some hoof shoes that she loves and adores. And then there is this small part of me that's extremely putty.

Katie Higgins: And it's like. Well, if Julia is on this trend. Somehow I have to get on board with it. Sure, I have to.

Katie Higgins: i don't have to but the youngins are doing it to stay young we i gotta stay young but then i put them on and you know the only reason i really legitimately pulled the trigger because i i can be as cheap as my husband sometimes and okay except for when he buys vibrums except for when he buys vibrums and like i shouldn't even call steven cheap but something is cheap he's just so he's the reason i still have a roof over my head he's sensible yes money and he loves to make sure all the bills are paid god love him Um.

Katie Higgins: And I do, I love him for that. It's why, i like I said, it's why I have a roof over my head. um I put these on though. And when I felt the tiny bit of stretch between my big toe and my other toes.

Katie Higgins: the Though. older part of me, the sensible part of me, if you will. Kicked in. Instead. You need these shoes because they're stretching out your toes and you feel better.

Katie Higgins: You're not holding as much tension in your feet. Because my toes are stretched out. This is why I just go barefoot a lot. Well, that is that is ultimately better for you. to do that. Just an but He gives me a hard time. I'll go to the mailbox. How do I run around barefoot?

Katie Higgins: Oh I do it all the time. Interesting. Do you wash your feet a lot? I'm gonna shower every day. Okay. Alright. But. I mean, I would go to the mailbox with no. shoes on well yeah you got but you got you got sidewalks yeah A lot of countries. uh -huh yeah that would hurt Uh... so yeah i mean i go barefoot a lot my dad was always like that my grandma was like that Okay, maybe I should attempt going barefoot. If you ever catch me at a cocktail party.

Katie Higgins: Wait two hours and the shoes are coming off. Well, so that's the other thing we were talking about is heels. I do want to attempt to wear. heels.

Katie Higgins: you know, once So. I have this really... funny ant. Okay. I love her to bits and pieces. Oh, I love this. I had these great Steve Maddens. I was thinking about them just the other day. I wish they would come out with these the same heel again. Okay. and She said, I cannot believe you bought them.

Katie Higgins: those look You're never going to be able to last all night in them. Because I was in college. I think I went to one of the winter formals. she Challenge accepted. Also, this was. when we were in our she was like i will send you fifty dollars if you can last all night UGH! Of course I can't.

Katie Higgins: 5am baby. The 50 bucks. 5 a .m i finally took those suckers off. Wow. Woof it. I was committed to those heels. They were fabulous. What was the heel like?

Katie Higgins: they were That was so interesting. And. um They it like had us. kind of crisscross at the toe. And on the side, it came up. But on the inside. Oh, it was awful. It was awful. Oh, I do. It was like a very like. 40s.

Katie Higgins: 50s kind of shoe i do love that kind of look Ugh, I would buy him again in a heartbeat. Oh, so cute. Oh, so cute. I was at Dillard's the other day and I just couldn't find a single high heel, but I was like, yep.

Katie Higgins: Gotta spend my money on it. Interesting. Right now, I don't get too excited unless it's... im very excited When we were in New York, we went to the Jeffrey Campbell booth. Blech. toying with the idea of carrying jeffrey campbell here in the in the boutique if you know i'm just you know if and when i was ever to bring back shoes again or it would be it would be something like um i mean he was there you were there i mean why not though they also have a very nice um program for their retailers.

Katie Higgins: and it would either be flap fabulous because i'm getting a lot of comments on those now that i've been wearing them for a while Um, And they were at the show and we didn't see them. We didn't know. It was until later someone told us they were there and that they were handing out. Oh, shit.

Katie Higgins: And I missed it. So I don't want to talk about it anymore because I'm still sad about it. Okay. have a but too I know. Very sad. um but Jeffrey Campbell was there and if I was ever to bring back shoes to the store it would be something super special like Jeffrey Campbell because I'm not I am just not a shoe store. Like I'm just not. yet And I'm okay with that. I'm very happy with it. I finally look like, I don't have to be everything to everybody. It doesn't bother me, but I do love to buy a shoe. I love to buy a shoe.

Katie Higgins: and what I've learned is when I do buy my own shoes for my own self people do love them. And that's like. because I own a store like I wouldn't normally care like you like my shoes or not I don't care but like So I'm realizing like, oh, I can see where I lost the plot. with buying shoes for the store.

Katie Higgins: So if I ever bought them again, they'd be Jeffrey Campbell, Flabulous, something like that. Something super special. But the reason I was on the hunt for the Jeffrey Campbell was because. of seeing them at market and but yeah the only ones that are the only heels that catch my eye right now are um Jeffrey Campbell.

Katie Higgins: ah Betsy Johnson. And... Kurt Geiger. I want to go to his store in London so bad. Let's go. Let's do it. It looks so beautiful and fun. I love it. So so that's my... We'll have a layover in D .C. to find out if there's Julia Child's Kitchen. Okay. Yes. And then we'll just continue on. Then we'll continue on to London so I can go to the Kurt Weiger store. I know. i think I think I would feel very at home in London.

Katie Higgins: from what I've seen now that I've... been looking paying attention more to the fashion and all of that. So. I feel like we need to take you to Copenhagen. The Copenhagen Fashion Week.

Katie Higgins: Socials. were unreal. I feel. Bucket list trip now. I feel like you would fit. there. very I was. Jaw dropped every single post I saw. Yeah.

Katie Higgins: It was so good. It was so much creativity. It was so much art. It was so much freedom. It was amazing. It was amazing. so Well, those are my latest things. My ah DC trip, my... ah My Emily, the only way I got through that six hour flight yesterday was.

Katie Higgins: because I was so locked into Emily in Paris. So. It was good. Oh, because you were watching it. Because I was watching it on the plane. fly On the plane. Gotcha. It was so good. No, mine has been a pretty quiet week. That is the best. But I know it's all because - You're about to rev up. I'm about to, we've got LA.

Katie Higgins: Yeah, in town. Yeah Europe Oh! There's gonna be so many things to chat about. So. I love it. got it We just got to get there. Okay. It's just a lot lately.

Katie Higgins: Well... But in the world of the world. Well, is that where we're going to 60 minutes? 60 minutes was actually 14 minutes. with Patrick. Tell me your thoughts.

Katie Higgins: Because you just want you you're fresher than I am. I watched it last night. And I will say, I sent you... I think only one, maybe two. And it was hysterical. The mashup with Notting Hill. And then a bunch of other things. It was so good. Um...

Katie Higgins: which they did not air that portion, by the way. no there's a lot on a cutting room floor there is there is and that was my initial thing I also um I think.

Katie Higgins: For me personally. Okay. I wanted there to be, as ah as ah as a journalist, more... questions Yes. It was just...

Katie Higgins: really a 14 minute statement and they're really and it was very and like like duh but like so clearly this was 100 % orchestrated by his lawyers. Yes, but there was no...

Katie Higgins: Real questions. Nope. And I think that, um yes, I could definitely pick a part. a lot of how he answered questions well and i may i may have a surprising response But. Ooh. I was.

Katie Higgins: i i I left it very unsatisfied. A hundred percent. I agree with that. I think ah between... the trial by TikTok, and everything else.

Katie Higgins: I feel... like This was not a good. public relations move by him i agree i don't think it helped at all I did see a tiny little snippet, and I think I even saved it, that Reddington...

Katie Higgins: has Filed. about. the juror Oh! And there might be some things happening before. The end of next week. Before the 29th.

Katie Higgins: I think. Oh, interesting. So like there's been a lot that has happened this week. Yeah. For a very. uneventful. Interview. interview yeah That I felt. That a lot of it, like...

Katie Higgins: um It really was. That's a good way to say it. A 14 minute statement. And... To the point. I'm like, but I thought I heard They had met previously. Uh -huh. I thought I had heard this. and Yeah. And I cannot cite that source. Of course not. No. Same. And, like, neither one of us is sitting here saying, oh, yeah, we have proof of everything. No. But, like. But.

Katie Higgins: It felt...

Katie Higgins: inauthentic in a lot of ways. Yeah. Um... And. Do you remember? When.

Katie Higgins: Harry and Meghan had the Oprah interview. Vaguely. okay well So refresh my memory. Oh, well. Oh, okay. Yes, yes, yes, I do. It was like at their house. Yes. Okay.

Katie Higgins: The whole time. I'm yelling. At the TV. Okay. I mean, there might have been a bottle of Sauv Blanc in there. Heck yeah. But. yelling at the TV because it felt so Inauthentic. Okay.

Katie Higgins: you know, tell the whole story that is very one sided. all of that and they're to a certain degree and i think that's where i was upset Uh...

Katie Higgins: I... From a journalistic standpoint, I felt like there should have been a follow -up question. to a few of the things okay yeah like Did she ever apologize? you know.

Katie Higgins: Yes. I feel like there was a lot, that one I did feel like was very like. Ewww. You didn't. you didn't tell the full story there yeah there was there was a lot yeah I don't know if it was because of ongoing legal cases. They could not question. ok That's true But. I really felt like it was a waste of everybody's time. It really was. And I do not think it did.

Katie Higgins: them any if they thought this was going to heal their reputation i don't think they accomplished it. I will say I was. um I was moved by a couple of the things.

Katie Higgins: Um. the him sharing and and now you know i I feel like there is this fine line of. He doesn't owe anyone.

Katie Higgins: Anything. technically. He's not convicted. He's or he's not charged with anything. like technically he doesn't owe anyone any answers.

Katie Higgins: His wife is, his ex -wife is the one that is charged with. Right. Um. For now. for now. Um. so i gotta that's i gotta that's the vibe like i didn't like i don't like the new wife The new wife to me is...

Katie Higgins: She was... she killed the whole, like, I feel like that was the worst move ever putting her. on the I don't understand. the purpose of her being there yeah like unless she was gonna seriously help you had they That was awful. If they had had an established relationship.

Katie Higgins: prior sure okay like where oh i knew him as a father i yeah knew him as a husband Yeah. But you didn't. You didn't. Exactly. According to you, you met... much later. ah huh So... You can be there for the interview.

Katie Higgins: off camera, uhuh but what is the purpose of you being there on camera? Yeah. Is it just for your 15 minutes of fame? Right. Exactly. God forbid Justin was in some sort of.

Katie Higgins: Aviation. Situation. Situation, okay. I mean, let's imagine it to be like a Sully situation. Sure, sure, sure. Because that's a happy one. That's a happy one. yeah Right. And he goes on the news and is interviewed by.

Katie Higgins: All the big boys. Okay. I would be there, but I would be the one nervously drinking tea off screen. Exactly. Waiting to hug him. Right. Like you did so great. Yeah. Yeah. You have a little thing. Right. Exactly. you know That's my role. And. And I know him as a pilot. I've known him for years as a pilot. pilot. And

Katie Higgins: I thought we all knew that she was pregnant, but for them to make this an official announcement of her pregnancy weird was really wrong. I think definitely. Now the stuff I appreciated was.

Katie Higgins: him giving some context again because he doesn't technically owe us any answers. Technically. But I think, okay. Dude, if you want to clear your name. You're going to have to give us some answers.

Katie Higgins: And so I did. Appreciate the context. around Kallen. Um, Him being there just holding him for those four days um So... Okay, tell me. Well, I felt...

Katie Higgins: And... I have never been in this situation. Sure. Neither of us has. We will... like we we're just My children have blessedly been healthy children. yeah If...

Katie Higgins: I had a young baby. Mm hmm. that was in that condition. There was a way he phrased it. that it just felt so selfish just give me one when he said that well it was some he it was like and he hung in there for four days and all i could think was what kind of pain What kind of condition was this was his baby in for those four days?

Katie Higgins: I mean, while the baby might not have understood the full emotional and psychological. Okay, scope. Of the situation. Okay. That baby has gone through severe trauma. some major trauma.

Katie Higgins: And physically. cannot feel well. ah i wouldn't think so and i mean don't get me wrong i am a full on keep the person plugged in Because maybe in Switzerland they have done something.

Katie Higgins: And i mean i'm mean I'm a soap opera a believer, yeah right? like There's some random thing somewhere. But it was the way that he phrased it that was a very much. Ooh, something goes off.

Katie Higgins: feels gross i don't like how you answered that oh interesting i can see that i can see that for sure But again, never been in this situation. I might feel totally different. Sure. God forbid. Sure. I i think. um the where I kind of took a pause was like,

Katie Higgins: when he was like when he talked about how he had a massive panic attack and that the The ambulance was called. And then it was like, okay, well, we can give you medicine and take you. But then that meant it would.

Katie Higgins: It would. uh prolong thee. his his testimony on the on the um It would prolong his time on the witness stand. Yes.

Katie Higgins: And that part I could relate to as like. He does not. want to relive this trauma any more than he has to.

Katie Higgins: And so he is. Stoic as hell. up there on the witness stand. Because he's just trying to get through it. So I did, that's where I did take a pause and go.

Katie Higgins: Okay. You know, he's getting ripped to shreds about his his um demeanor his emotions, all of that on the witness stand. And. While I have never been on a witness stand in that situation. I have gone through legal stuff and like it is It is...

Katie Higgins: and i'm not interesting And not for triple homicide. I'm just talking about some little stuff. And like. That is a, it is a. very stressful situation when you're in a legal situation like that so so because i could um,

Katie Higgins: Put myself in that situation in a in a sliver of a way. You know, like, obviously, I never testified in a triple homicide, but like. Because like like the pressure of a courtroom can be intense.

Katie Higgins: And also he's reliving the night his babies died. I'm not going to say, you know, whatever. And. and So... I did take a pause there. Like. Okay.

Katie Higgins: I appreciate the context here. Um.

Katie Higgins: And then you brought the new wife in and I just lost all respect? Yeah. I really did? If it had just been him. I also... And also, this is another thing I can relate to.

Katie Higgins: from a therapy side of things and healing and grieving. Again, I have not lost children. But I have been through. stuff. And when he said, when they said, did she ever apologize? And shes he said.

Katie Higgins: no no but i gave it to her or something like no pause pause But I have forgiven her. I have forgiven her because because it would have eaten me alive. Or something like that is what he said. I can relate to that I in my own. therapy journey over the last, since, since 2019 and whatever.

Katie Higgins: There are people in my life that I have had to decide. I am going to forgive this person. for my own benefit. so that I can move on.

Katie Higgins: Like. You? Person? Go with God. That's between you and him. I... Will not be welcoming you back into my life. But I have forgiven you for my own benefit so that I can move forward.

Katie Higgins: And. find where i know i haven't done therapy because i was raised with a You're dead to me now. oh well it is cut off You are dead. Well...

Katie Higgins: I don't necessarily disagree. I i think... Why did they forgive you? I think you have to do what?

Katie Higgins: what you have to do to move on. You know? Yeah, you're dead to me. Yeah. And if that, well, there you go. Well, so me, for me, forgiveness, I guess, is my, you're dead to me.

Katie Higgins: Yeah. i don't need it and i think that's okay you know i think that's good like we all have our own Ways of of going. in and Because for me, that that. is like I have forgiven you.

Katie Higgins: like that's your shit and i'm moving on over here yeah i don't need to forgive you yeah or anything Okay. yeah um so But that's. Again, no therapy. Well. And I have had my time in therapy. Now, what I think, I'm going to go back a little bit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Do it. Yeah.

Katie Higgins: Um... So the whole panic attack. Thing thing about the testimony. Okay And while I can agree with you, it is very stressful to be in a courtroom and and to testify. and All of that.

Katie Higgins: I think it's a little. Contrived. that That's the excuse. ah And I think also. ah my My personal...

Katie Higgins: Uh -huh. is this is a man. Who? was... Had a lot of opinions about his wife's course of care. Uh -huh, beforehand. Mm -hmm.

Katie Higgins: And. You did just remind me of another part part that part that I was like, oh, who would did we just say that? Yeah. So like you have all these opinions. No, my wife is not boy bipolar. No, we're not going to treat her for that. right All of these things conveniently. Now you're going to have a panic attack, but oh no, I'm too strong.

Katie Higgins: And I just felt like... Oh, that's interesting. Hey, hey. And how typical.

Katie Higgins: And of course it's a man and a woman. Of course, of course. um and And it just felt. that way as somebody who maybe doesn't understand the full scope of The situation of what has happened there. You're going to use a panic attack. Interesting. Oh.

Katie Higgins: you know my wife you know we're gonna go ahead and fire the nanny or the housekeeper or all of these things. And, you know, let me hold on to all of your medication for you and all of these things.

Katie Higgins: okay okay there was just some feelings i felt and now and oh it's hard for you And yes, I'm not saying no you have lost three children, but where was the compassion of care? Interesting. Interesting. Those are just my personal. No, I love it. I love it. i love but And I think...

Katie Higgins: You know, he he he made a good point several times to to champion. Mental health. and And mental health. Okay, sure. But I don't see that in practice from what was.

Katie Higgins: presented At the trial, I don't see. That he was compassionate about mental health. No. and his wife's health yeah and um you know, postpartum. Right.

Katie Higgins: All the things. Right. Right. So. Yeah. No, I, okay. So the part where I did go and this was. right before they brought on the new wife. um When they said. Do you think you could have done better? And he goes, no.

Katie Higgins: I did the best I could with what I had. Yeah. Okay, so. i could bear the The person in therapy, me. goes Okay, I see what you're getting at here. I do.

Katie Higgins: I see what you're getting at here. Because... I can look back on my darkest days. And. And Stephen and I did the best we could with the information we had.

Katie Higgins: I also. Look back on those days and think. Oh my God, I could have done things differently. Like. Both of those statements can be true. yeah Giving myself. the mercy or the grace or whatever to say. I did do the best I could with the information I had in that moment.

Katie Higgins: And... Now looking back. Yeah, I got a lot of things wrong. Sure. Hindsight's 20 -20. Hindsight's 20 -20. Both things can be true. He said it was not that. no He just said, I did the, I, yes, I did. I did everything I could.

Katie Higgins: You didn't have the energy to stay at the ER that day. Nope. And. While your wife is in the hospital, you went skiing. So you had enough energy to go skiing. you didn't have enough energy to...

Katie Higgins: Take care. your super mentally ill as somebody who has married somebody that likes to ski yeah Takes a lot of effort. I'm gonna tell you right now. Yeah. It wouldn't be happening.

Katie Higgins: No. I am. Stephen was at the hospital every day. every day with me. yeah um during visiting hours and he would have been there longer but they only let you come for a little bit um So I was, and then the new wife.

Katie Higgins: was um I'm sorry. So sorry, not sorry at all. Rachel Danis, that was horrible. It was. who it is. Like. Oh, we went running. And then, oh, who are those cuties on the phone? and Are you kidding me? As somebody, i would so I was watching TikTok.

Katie Higgins: Okay, yeah. and They said, listen, I have been running in New York for three years and I'm here to tell you that is a flat out lie. No woman. is ever going to and think about it okay no woman is ever going to stop in her run and be like Hi. Hi. Look at how cute your kids are.

Katie Higgins: but But like what? If you're running anywhere as a female. you're You're paying attention to your surroundings. You're getting your run done. Right. Right. Because we don't know.

Katie Higgins: We don't know. who is a threat to us. We are getting our exercise done. We do not want to be accosted. or harassed in any way we do. We're just here to exercise, right? And you're telling me that like, oh. ah ah Yeah.

Katie Higgins: She was all of that. All of that. No. Like... No! No. No! No woman is... stopping in her run. to have a meet cute. NOOOO - Oh! Well, and then I...

Katie Higgins: I guess they just aired it to get viewers. and then didn't air that part where she was like i was just a girl running on a cold day is actually from 51st state literally Or no, Notting Hill. Nope. It is word for word.

Katie Higgins: Shut up. Apparently from 50 First Dates. Oh, my God. Like, girl. Get on TikTok. Get on TikTok before you go do this 60 minutes interview. Like, don't be an idiot. Have you seen the AI TikTok videos about the two of them in the interview? Oh no, but I need to. They're great. I need to go. I almost sent you some. Okay, well. I almost sent you some. Well, so what else do we have? There we go. What else do we have? Well, listen, do you have a new, do you, I am in my petty era.

Katie Higgins: What's your Petty Betty of the Week? i I thought I said it earlier and then I forgot what it was. I actually don't know if I'm being petty of the week. Well, do we not are we not being petty today? We're not petty this week. We're not petty this week. We're not. petty Because I don't feel like like discussing Patrick Quincy is not petty anymore.

Katie Higgins: You know what I mean? No. Um. Um... oh I didn't have one, but I have forgotten it because that's menopause. Well, only because it's somewhat on our notes. Okay, okay, okay.

Katie Higgins: i will I will take a leap with my Petty Betty. Okay. and say that state -run media. is my petty betty of the week. ah I have to tell you.

Katie Higgins: I never thought I'd live to see the day where. All of them, including Fox, would band together and say, peace out. true light Did you like the slow... uh pan over to mom donnie yesterday it was all fantastic i loved it um but it does concern me yeah that it people who it's are like scary China and Russia and all of these things, right? And all, oh, you know.

Katie Higgins: socialism and communism. Oh. But let's have state -run media. Let's have Trump TV. Trump TV. There you go. And I'm just, I'm like, but wait, which is it? Are we pro?

Katie Higgins: Bye. Oh! I know. confused Like, they... like I'm truly wondering like okay if you are still a Trump supporter and I stay still because I've been open about this I voted for him twice I'm not proud of it but it Like I just said about Patrick Clancy, two things can be true.

Katie Higgins: I... at the time that's what i believed or whatever and then when i knew better i did better And do I also wish I could go back and vote for him? Yes. Can I change it? No. So like.

Katie Higgins: Two things can be true. Um, But I'm also not going to shy away from what I did. Like I'm here to say, hey, it's okay to change your mind. Hello. Learning new things is good. um Win.

Katie Higgins: When I saw people, someone say like. uh there was or there were a lot of memes going around like um You know who else said? I don't like the media or something like that. Hitler, Mussolini, like come on y 'all. Yeah. Come on. If Fox pulled out too, you know something's bad. You know it's bad. Yes. I will say also, I caught the tail end of his speech today at the UN. n Oh, I did not see that.

Katie Higgins: And so I haven't been able to like really dive into it yet. um but he signed a deal with greenland and denmark um And he went on this long. tirade at the UN ns and did a whole speech about how he solved all these wars but then he sees this phrase. oh And I kind of want to go back and see the footage for it because I would like to know what other world leaders' faces did in this moment. Okay. Oh god.

Katie Higgins: To the victor. goes the spoils oh god Because I know what my face did this morning in the car when I was listening to it. Well, and also, that's not the vibe of the UN. No, in fact. One would argue.

Katie Higgins: That is the antithesis. It's the antithesis of the UN. The whole reason the UN was established. And I don't know a lot about things, but I know that. The whole reason. 21 nations? You win.

Katie Higgins: All of that starts. is because it comes out of world war one and all of this post -colonialism and look Europe screwed everybody with this colonialism.

Katie Higgins: I'm always impressed with the history lessons. Well. you know well done thank bloomberg because i did listen to it on my way here well um But... It is the opposite of. To the Victor goes the spoils. Oh my like God. Cause he was, and and I think it was even in fact, when he was talking about how he invaded Venezuela at the beginning of the year, if you don't remember, hu he invaded. um Without telling anyone. Without telling anybody because Jess and I were flying out the night before from Aruba.

Katie Higgins: Didn't know how close Aruba was to Venezuela. Oh, boy. That was fun. Um... But... it was it It was in reference to Venezuela. and the gasoline and all like gas and oil and all of that right um because we have basically commandeered.

Katie Higgins: All of that. Okay. Okay. Very oil rich country. Sure. and If you didn't know that. And it was to the victor goes the sports. And because let's let's not for a minute think this was some humanitarian thing he was doing.

Katie Higgins: to protect venezuelans it was was not oh my god i have to save these i mean no it was not Sorry. if If some of that happened in the in the fallout. Great.

Katie Higgins: but It was not the reason. Right. Of course not. Right. Yeah. so And then he just outed himself. So I would say that's my petty bet. Well, listen, I mean. Oh, and then? Kimmel's... kimmel's um monologue about it was hysterical.

Katie Higgins: It was so funny. yeah About which one? about About Trump's whole thing. Trump TV? Yeah. Well, and then he also. Because I was listening to Bloomberg. Um, Eh...

Katie Higgins: He basically said... The Iran war, which is not a war because technically Congress has not declared a war. Oh, God. Um... Will.

Katie Higgins: come to a very swift end. once the midterms are over. Oh, I'm like, that feels ominous. And I don't like that. I feel like. Your speech writers are shitting their pants right now because you were not supposed to ever say that out loud. I don't like that. No.

Katie Higgins: So that's scary AF. right there. Come see me at Sugar Plum before the whole world employs you. Listen. and um I just got my new voter registration because I moved counties, so I had to re -vote. I just took mom yesterday to drop off her stuff. ah Well, I was worried. Although I think she's a voter registration register, maybe? oh maybe well i had to i checked my my registration status last week and it was saying that there was no record of it so i was getting all sorts of Oh. But it came in the mail.

Katie Higgins: good So I've got it! and I will be voting. for telleree i have Well, and I have have heard a lot of panic. About voter registration. Voter registration and the SAVE Act and goodness. All of the different things. I think I'm technically still a registered Republican because I just changed my address. us.

Katie Higgins: Because I didn't know how to change anything. But. I mean... I don't particularly, all that matters is the vote I cast. Hey, actually last petty betty of the week. Okay, yeah. Can we stop? political texts.

Katie Higgins: Oh my god. i do I do unsubscribe from all of them. whether I support them or not. I hate them. it is So... aggressive It's so aggressive.

Katie Higgins: It is so aggressive. I agree completely. I agree. I definitely agree. Well, since I didn't have any official ones this week, I'm sure I'll be ah filled with them next week. And I will do my best to.

Katie Higgins: observe all the people i know let me and observe better oh yeah i can't wait so i can tell you stories oh of Hollywood well that's gonna be a blast I cannot wait I'm really excited I am I am You're going to have such a good time.

Katie Higgins: We're going to stay at a... Fancy hotel. So good. Probably need to make some. dinner reservations. Heck yeah. I feel like is LA one that you need to make reservations at? Or is it a just pop -up? See, you know, Houston, you don't really do reservations. Well, and even in New York last week, I didn't need reservations. I mean, I made them, but I made them.

Katie Higgins: 30 minutes ahead of time. And I did fine. So i maybe it was just an off weekend, though. And I went to good restaurants, so. But also I don't. It might've been good last year, you know, and they're still good, but they're not hot or whatever.

Katie Higgins: So I don't know. That's my answer. I did think and like could we Did we talk about this? I know we've talked about the restaurant. Suddenly I'm hungry. Yeah. but Dishoom is ah where the old fashions we talked about a couple weeks ago oh okay that i made yes those um viceroy old fashions yes i'm from a restaurant called dashum out of the uk okay but they're opening New York. location oh next year in 2027.

Katie Higgins: And I feel like we should meet Julia. Take us to New York. Take us to New York. I know. she can um She can show us a good time. She can tour us around.

Katie Higgins: I'm up. I'm along for the ride. I am. Okay. Well, fantastic. i'm um Happy for our thoughts for this week. We're out of drinks, out of thoughts. Out of drinks, out of thoughts. I know.

Katie Higgins: Perry Menopause will do that for you. So listen. All right. byall Bye,

Katie Higgins
