00:00:11
Speaker
It was directed by James Gunn, Sergeant David Cornswett. um And I forgot her name already. Oh my God. You're killing it. Dude, shut The newest film. Rachel Bronson. The newest film in the series that is starting with this
Is Suicide Squad the First DCU Film?
00:00:25
Speaker
film. It is. First off, it didn't start with this.
00:00:28
Speaker
Which? ah Creatures and Commandos. That's not a film. But Suicide Squad. It's a new film in the universe. That's what I said. It's the first film. But doesn't isn't Suicide Squad the first film? Didn't he say that counts?
00:00:41
Speaker
I thought he said that. No, he might have. Because he's keeping Peacemaker. Nicholas Holt, Nathan Fillion. I guess not the end. Isabella Marcade. It would be the end of Peacemaker that it wouldn't be. Well, they said that you're going to... They'll retcon the end of Peacemaker and in season two.
00:00:56
Speaker
Gotcha. I think I know how they're going to do it. hope it just kills them off. i No, you see two versions of Peacemaker in the trailer. I think in the beginning, we're just walking and shooting.
00:01:08
Speaker
It's just the other version. That'd be pretty sweet. But yeah, before we get into the episode, oh my god, my mic seems really loud. Didn't you do an audio test? I did. They sounded fine.
00:01:18
Speaker
Okay. um But yeah, before we get into it, Ryan, how how are you doing? just got out of Superman.
Superman Movie Reflection and Comparison
00:01:23
Speaker
doing a a fine. Still got that ah Superman feel to me. It was a good movie.
00:01:30
Speaker
Felt good. Felt good watching it. You mean? felt It was a good movie to watch. Yes. We can we can finally get the fears away. The movie's good. It is very good. It's pretty good. Is it great?
00:01:43
Speaker
It's a great superhero movie. It was it was fun. was a lot of fun. It's not bad. it was It's in the top tier of superhero films for me. Top tier? All time? Mm-hmm. what would you put What would you put just above this?
00:01:56
Speaker
like the so I'll say this is tier. It's not tier. What would you put this in between? you know what i mean This is definitely below like Infinity War. yeah But it's better than like No Way Home, Winter Soldier.
00:02:10
Speaker
and know that's a hot take. wonder so People like Winter Soldier. People love Winter Soldier. I don't like when he kisses the girl. That's in Civil War. Is it? Oh, fuck. Yeah, it is in Civil War.
00:02:23
Speaker
It's very underwhelming. Civil War. Civil War is kind of boring. And also, you can't call it Civil War and then only like eight people fight. Yeah. They need to wait.
00:02:34
Speaker
yeah Yeah. Way more heroes. Like with Secret Wars, they've waited long enough for Secret Wars that they can do. And be a grown up and kill Captain America. Damn. Don't just paralyze Rhodey. yeah Wasn't he a Skrull at that point?
00:02:48
Speaker
No, he's... It's him... I don't remember. or is it just after? Secret Maiden sucks. I didn't watch it, so I don't know. I don't really watch Ironheart now, though. Just because The things I've been seeing is that the show's not great, but I just want to see Mephisto and what that's all about. That scene with him, we he gets introduced, is pretty good. Yeah.
00:03:06
Speaker
I watched the whole scene. when But yeah, as we said, we're here to review Superman. I didn't do a great job introducing the film, but I'll do better when we get actually to the film. But the TikTok clip did really well Ryan's start and cut, so we're bringing it back.
TikTok Success and Audience Engagement
00:03:21
Speaker
You got like 100 and something. No, it's like 300 likes across both platforms. A thousand views. Hell yeah. if you want to you want to hear your opinion. Also, look at the the sixth and cast member on Google. I know.
00:03:32
Speaker
A bit of a spoiler because we didn't know. I had no idea. Yeah, I thought maybe in the post-credits scene, but I wasn't expecting in the movie. Yeah. But are you are you ready for your starting cut? I'm ready. Do you have anything to say to anyone that disliked your list before?
00:03:45
Speaker
Did anybody dislike my list? Tuvi podcast didn't like you that you cut Alien. Tuvi. Listen. I didn't know what was coming next. A girl did comment like the the emoji, like the heart's floating next to it.
00:03:56
Speaker
so I was like, I think she's talking her. Where this woman? This was not the same woman. This this is crazy.
Film Selection Game: Keep or Cut?
00:04:01
Speaker
This is unbelievable. You're ladies man, man. What can say? But yeah, if you haven't seen the first clip of it, go watch our TikTok or Instagram. It's on both of those platforms. I did my best.
00:04:12
Speaker
You did your best. I like your list. i don't know I don't know what's coming next. I can't help it. Yeah. they' they're go You didn't want Ballad of Swungbirds and Snakes when you start. I would much rather have Alien than yeah than that, but we're Tenet.
00:04:22
Speaker
Okay. Ready for your first film? The Crow. The original of The Crow.
00:04:29
Speaker
and See, I don't know what's coming next. Exactly. And you said, you you hinted to me that this could be a tough one. Well, that's why the crow's on here. I'm assuming that there's ah there's some real bad ones.
00:04:42
Speaker
There's also come some really good ones. Shit. I made sure to can't tell you exactly how many of each number. but Okay. I mean, listen, i the crow, the crow's fun. The crow's fine. I know you love it.
00:04:55
Speaker
I don't like it as much as you. Probably going to be in an episode we do later. Later on. What do you mean? Our top 25 movies list. Oh, yeah. It's going to be on there. Let's just stream that because it's going to be six hours. If we want to drink that much, if you want to drink that much. not no No, we're doing five. Okay. it Let's give you five drinks. Five drinks.
00:05:13
Speaker
Okay. Cut. I'm cutting the crow. playing it safe. Oh, you're cutting the crow. cutting the crow. you're trying to cut the drinking. No, no, no. I'm playing it safe for now. Wow.
00:05:24
Speaker
um'm I'm assuming there's some good ones coming up. Okay. Number two, Joker. Joker one. I'm going to keep Joker. I like Joker. And it's not, you know, I'm not some weirdo who's like, i love he's the best kid. life It's a good ass movie.
00:05:39
Speaker
The Town. Oh, The Town's a really good movie. Fuck, this is a tough one. Is this just all very good movies? No. but I'm going to keep The Town, then. I got two keeps, two cuts, or one cut. Let's just say, did not expect the list to go this way so far, so you might be in trouble.
00:05:58
Speaker
ah Next option. You think I'd cut the town? The Little Things. The Little Things. With Rami Malek, Denzel, and Jared Leto. Oh, I never watched that movie. Really? ah Yeah, I got to cut it. God damn You said it was dog shit, so I never watched it.
00:06:09
Speaker
I thought you watched it too. No. Shit. That kind of fucked up my plan. Hell yeah. um Superman Returns. Is that the Brandon Ralph one? Yes.
00:06:21
Speaker
Cut. It's fine. Great opening. Great opening. But, you it's fine.
00:06:31
Speaker
Next one. Empire Strikes Back. You have to keep it. What are you talking about? right. So what am i Three and three? Three and three. Okay.
00:06:42
Speaker
Fan four stick. I've actually still never seen that movie. So I have to cut it. thought you've seen these movies. No, I've avoided that movie till the day I die. I never want to watch it. Oh, and you're going to watch it now.
00:06:59
Speaker
Really running out of spots. I thought the Gray Man was kind of fun. I didn't hate the Gray Man. I didn't love it, but it was it was enjoyable. And I got two keeps and one cut left. Yep. I'm going to keep the Gray Man.
00:07:09
Speaker
Because I don't know. The next one could be a banger. The next one could be shit. The Social Network.
00:07:16
Speaker
It's a top 25. I got to keep that movie. I love that movie.
00:07:22
Speaker
If it's Shawshank, I'll jump over this. No, you're probably going to okay with the last duel. Yeah, that's fine. I can cut that. Didn't love that movie. I didn't love that um Adam Driver's perspective is still rape. Oh, it's just rape. No, there's no saving. i don't understand.
00:07:42
Speaker
Okay, so you want to hear your list now? You're starting five. years I think I did good. You're starting five. Joker, The Town, Empire, The Gray Man, and The Social Network.
00:07:54
Speaker
You're cut. The Crow, The Little Things, Superman Returns, Fan four stick, the last duel. I think you did pretty good. I think I nailed that. Well, I wouldn't say nailed. There's two out Well, you'd probably switch like Joker in last duel. Obviously, the crow.
00:08:08
Speaker
I think for me, don't know. I would probably say Joker and the Grey are the two I wouldn't have put. I thought those two would be good ones to add in because they're like middle of the road. So I took two one stars, two three stars, and then a bunch of four stars, and then one five star.
00:08:23
Speaker
So what do you have Joker at? Three? Three. Really? I don't really like the movie. I liked it a lot. Actually, might be two and a half now. I thought it was very good. It's got great. I think I hate it because it's- Oscar winning performance?
00:08:34
Speaker
No, great performance. I think it's just because it's very, it's pretty much Taxi Driver and the King of Comedy. Oh, yeah. But it's a great imitation of him. Yeah. Yeah. I love Superman Returns.
00:08:45
Speaker
Superman Returns would probably, have been close to making my list. Yeah, no, that one's not the best. I haven't seen it since I was a kid. I really haven't, but- Stand by that. It's what? Better than Man of Steel.
00:08:57
Speaker
by You're going to catch some flack for that. I've talked a lot of shit on Zack Snyder. That's a crazy take, Tommy. Let me tell you something. got better reviews. comp Let me tell you something. It's got way better reviews. That's a crazy day It's got almost an 80.
00:09:09
Speaker
Does it really? Superman Returns is a banger. i don't know. It's just slow. Yeah. It's still Lex Luthor in that, right? Yeah, it's Kevin Spacey. Is it? Yeah. Oh, fuck. I forgot. James Morrison's in it.
00:09:22
Speaker
Really? Mm-hmm. Oh. He's actually getting cocked. Really? Because he's married to Lois Lane. Because people forget, Superman Returns is a sequel to the Christopher Reeve movies.
00:09:34
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, i like when catches that plane, though. It's good. Amazing scene. Great open. And he hits a line where he's like, even with this accident, flying is still ah statistically the safest way to travel. we travel Which comes from another movie I'll be talking about later.
00:09:52
Speaker
What are we talking about later? I'll be talking about it.
Initial Impressions of the New Superman Film
00:09:57
Speaker
Okay. You got a recommendation week already? All right.
00:10:03
Speaker
Okay. Hopefully the music doesn't start playing again. I'm sure it'll be fine. So Superman, the first feature film in the DC universe. Unless you count suicide squad, unless you count suicide squad, but i'll know how we count. If we count that. I don't know yet. We'll see.
00:10:18
Speaker
This film stars David Cornsway as the iconic Superman. Rachel Brosnan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Holt as Lex Luthor. Nathan Fillion as a Green Lantern, specifically Guy Gardner. Isabella Mercad as Hawkgirl.
00:10:30
Speaker
Character I can't say yet. ah Eddie Gaethje. Is that you say his name? It's Mr. Terrific. Gaethje. I don't know. think that's how you say it. Anthony Kerrigan as Metamorpho. Frank Grillo as Rick Flagg Sr. And Skyler, I never know how to say his last name.
00:10:47
Speaker
Plays Jimmy Olsen. Yeah. I don't know his last name. Love that dude. Yeah. Great in everything. He's in Righteous Jempsons. Is he? Best part of the show Sweet. I still got to watch that show. Oh, and then Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord. Don't see him very often, but he does have a very funny line in his one appearance. He is in Peacemaker, though. We will be seeing him in that.
00:11:05
Speaker
Yeah. Alan Tudyk as a voice of a robot. Robot 4. Yeah. Come on now. This film currently sits at a 70 on Metacritic, 96 on Fandango, with an 83 critic score. but the eighty three critic score And a 96 audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The consensus is that pulling off the heroic feat of fleshing out a dynamic new world while putting its champion's big beating heart front and center, the Superman flies high as the man tomorrow grounded in the here and now.
00:11:32
Speaker
Audiences say that James Gunn brings back a timeless hero with Superman and gives us a four-legged scene stealer we can all rally behind. Talking about crypto. No. It's pretty cool. Damn.
00:11:44
Speaker
I feel like you're talking Guy Gardner with the four legs. When he crawls on the side of his home. Guy Gardner's such asshole. I love it. I'm excited to see him in Lanterns where he can curse and yeah be more Guy Gardner.
00:11:56
Speaker
It is funny, the original comics, when he was just a nice, normal guy. And then they just let's turn him into an asshole. Turn him into absolute damn... wasn't he He got trapped in like the Phantom Zone, didn't he? And that's why he came back just crazy.
00:12:09
Speaker
I have no idea why he came back. I saw a video this morning. Oh, you were doing some research? ah Yeah, I did a little bit research on Guy Gardner. He was like a grad student who was...
00:12:22
Speaker
I think he got given the ring. He was like the backup to Hal Jordan. And then when, um what's his name? ah Jon Stewart. Jon Stewart. Got it. He was like his backup. And then they're like, all right, fine. Guy Gardner gets it.
00:12:35
Speaker
And then he got trapped in the Phantom Zone or whatever. And then he came back crazy. They finally got him out and he was just broken. Damn. Yeah. Pretty cool. I like that. So I. Yeah. It was cool seeing the pocket universe in this.
00:12:49
Speaker
Yeah, it was neat. Yeah. Yeah. ah the So the synopsis of the film is when Superman gets drawn to conflicts at home and abroad. His actions are questioned, ah giving tech billionaire Lex Luthor the opportunity to get the Man of Steel out of the way for good.
00:13:02
Speaker
While intrepid reporter Lois Lane and Superman's four-layed companion Crypto, I'm sorry, will Lois Lane and Crypto be able to help him before it's too late. ah This film is PG-13, directed by James Gunn, and Cinematography Dome was done by Henry Braham.
Superman's Role as a Beacon of Hope
00:13:20
Speaker
I like the cinematography. Yeah. It really showed off the suit. Yeah. all All the lighting was very very bright, very bright vibrant, which they it sounded like they wanted to do from the get-go with this movie. Like, just make Superman bright and happy and cheery again.
00:13:35
Speaker
And they do a good job of that. And he still has that emotional depth. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He still has a character to Yeah, for sure. Where it's just, you know, he can be the beacon of light in, you know, in the dark. And that's kind of the entire point.
00:13:47
Speaker
You know, it stands for hope. But this time, he's not saying that in a dark and dreary prison room. Like in Man of Steel. Remember he's getting an... Iconic scene, though, when he stands up and breaks the tip thing off. Oh, no, that's cool.
00:14:00
Speaker
But it's like, you know, this stands for hope as he's in the most... fucking dank, disgusting. room He's just in prison. He's like, yeah, it means hope. He's like, okay, you know there's several people aiming guns you right now, right?
00:14:11
Speaker
It's like, yeah, I'll kill all of them. And I like, yeah, well, he didn't say that. He doesn't say that, but you know that's what that motherfucker was thinking. So Zack Snyder wanted it, right? Zack Snyder wanted him to rip all those guys apart.
00:14:23
Speaker
I've been kind of down. Warner Brothers was like, we can't, no, he's not Homelander. He's not home Homelander. Homelander. That's why Homelander's a thing is because but that's not what Superman does. Yeah. Yeah. Superman is a good guy. He is a great guy. the goodest of guys ever.
00:14:36
Speaker
Yeah, better than Captain America. Yeah. Captain America also kills people. He does. Most of the time. Superman doesn't because doesn't have to. Well, he does. Just not often.
00:14:48
Speaker
Yeah, every once in a while. Well, he really doesn't kill people. Depending on what storyline they go down, if he goes down the injustice route eventually, he does kill someone. Kills a lot of people, actually. Not on purpose, though.
00:14:59
Speaker
Oh, no, he kills one guy on purpose. Yeah, but that first person, he doesn't kill them on purpose. Talk about the first when he's this? That's what I'm talking about. Yeah, when he's fighting the guy in space and it's not the guy? No, no, no, no, no.
00:15:11
Speaker
Oh. No, no, he punches through a human being. No, I know he does that on purpose. Yeah, that's the first person. No, the inciting it when Joker tricks him. Oh, that's, is that, that's the comics, right?
00:15:24
Speaker
Yeah, thought so. Yeah. Are you thinking Justice Games? Yeah. Oh, then yeah, that's different. Because the games came out first. Oh, they? Justice came out years later. Oh, I thought, I thought comics were before. I didn't know.
00:15:35
Speaker
I might be wrong. could wrong. You're more of a comic guy. I don't know. and Justice comics are good though. I was just assuming. Injustice movie kind of ass though. Remember the movie came out like two years ago? Yeah. It was absolutely terrible. Gotcha. Found the same problem as The Killing Joke and all those other anime movies. Not enough time.
00:15:51
Speaker
Yeah. But that's not what we're here to talk about. We're talking here to talk about Superman, which is still on Google as Superman Legacy, which is not called anymore. It's just Superman. And I will say my initial thought is if you watched, Ryan did not, if you watched the DC Comics cartoons when you were younger, probably close people.
00:16:09
Speaker
Me and Ryan aren't that far apart, but early 2000s, late 90s, Superman is called The Adventures of Superman, and then it was Batman the Animated Series. This is straight out of the Superman TV show.
00:16:21
Speaker
It feels like an episode of that show. There's monsters. You go different universes. You get the comedy. You still get the emotional side of it. Superman's stoic. He's awesome.
00:16:32
Speaker
And I love that he's Superman almost the entire movie. Yeah. And the scenes where he is Clark, it's cool to see him as Clark. And I like the how they do talk about the hypnosis glasses because I think feel like most people don't know that they do that.
00:16:46
Speaker
Yeah, i'd never I'd never heard of that before. Yeah, that's in the comics. Is that real? Okay. Okay. So it's also cool that Metropolis is in Delaware. Is it? Yeah. Nice. Which it is in the comics too at points. Yeah. It's always a different ah coast city. but Yeah.
00:16:59
Speaker
yeah It's in Delaware in this one. Cool. It's cool seeing the Hall of Justice get built. Yeah. No, I saw it. When it cut to that, your jaw was just way open. Yeah. There's a bunch of little Easter eggs throughout like Stag da Corporation.
00:17:12
Speaker
ah You see exit to Gotham City. Because you're you're into this world. This world's been a thing for a hundred years metahumans have been there and you learn that in the opening title they show you the timeline three centuries the three yeah oh shit three because it was three centuries and then like oh yeah three in then decades and i did like i was like three minutes yeah yeah that was good This movie throws you right into it. Like there's no, no like lead up to start the movie. Like you're, it starts as soon as it goes. And it's because Superman movies have been around for forever.
00:17:42
Speaker
Like, you know, they're making these in in black and white. There's a Superman show. So people understand the character. People know Superman. They know mom, pa, Kent. They know he, you know, he fell and grew up on a farm in Kansas.
00:17:54
Speaker
They know the story. They know Lois Lane. They know Clark Kent. Everybody knows. You don't need to rehash that again. It's the same thing like the MCU didn't show you Uncle Ben dying again because we've seen it twice. Yeah. And we, everybody gets it. Everybody knows. Just cut that, you know, talk about it if you need to, but just get right into the meat of the story and let everybody just kind of, you know, understand that's implied because we've seen it before.
00:18:16
Speaker
Yeah. Cause they don't even talk about Ben Parker and Spider-Man, the third one, right? No, well I think you see you see like a suitcase or something with his initials on it. Yeah.
00:18:27
Speaker
But yeah, because you don't have to talk to talk about it. You can just get into the more important things for that story. You don't have to rehash. Yeah, and it helps that... I feel like it was great that they didn't do the origin story. And he said he doesn't plan on doing an origin story for Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman.
00:18:43
Speaker
Oh, and he said he doesn't ever want to see another Spider-Man origin story. But he said the... the truth as They call in the comics the trinity of these characters. They're not getting origin stories because we know who they are. Yeah, we know.
00:18:54
Speaker
You don't need to see Batman's parents die again. We all know the story. We've seen it one, two, three, four, at least four times, not counting animated stuff and all that. But it gets you right into it and As soon as you see him, he's Superman.
00:19:10
Speaker
David Kornstein was perfect. From the first line, I just thought, like yeah, that's that Superman now. I get it. I'm in. i believe it. she has It felt like Superman immediately. So that and was really good.
00:19:22
Speaker
And there's two post-cry scenes. You don't really have to stay for either one of them but because they're just quick. yeah But I really liked the second one. Yeah, the second one was fun. And it was so cool being such a huge fan of DC, like how you are Marvel.
00:19:35
Speaker
To see like these smaller characters. Seeing Guy Gardner was awesome. Seeing Mr. Terrific, who I don't think I've seen since the Justice League show. Justice League Unlimited. ah People who know, they know.
00:19:46
Speaker
But Mr. Terrific is an all-time character. Super cool, super smart, great fighter. And his suit's dope as hell. Yeah, it was really cool. Just like the biker suit. And yeah and then just the cool like mask. but then doing the Still doing the eye black pretty much. yeah and i love that And all the costumes in this were...
00:20:04
Speaker
um real. It wasn't like CGI. they're all practical. The only one... Practical. I don't know why I couldn't think that word. The only one was the hammer of Borabia in the beginning. Yeah. But that was... so It's not there for long.
00:20:15
Speaker
um I thought that was going in a way more. The way they showed it... I guess that was the point in the tryout throw you off what the story was going to go to. I really liked seeing... Metamorpho was pretty cool.
00:20:28
Speaker
Because it's a practical suit. yeah Like there's scenes where of course it's CGI. Yeah, obviously. yeah But it was really cool to see the suit. It was cool to see the effects of the how they use kryptonite in this film. Because it's very different.
00:20:40
Speaker
The effects of it look a lot different than what we see before. yeah And they did something that they hadn't done. think they might do it Superman Returns. But if not, then I've never seen them do it. That's the kryptonite poisoning. Yeah, haven't seen that a while.
00:20:52
Speaker
I feel like they did do it one of the early... It may have been Returns. I feel like I've seen it before. Yeah, because they have the kryptonite gun in Superman Returns that they shoot him with. Superman Returns also is one of the greatest scenes when the bullet hits him in the eye.
00:21:03
Speaker
And it flattens. it's awesome scene saw that theaters when I little yeah was five when that came out but yeah this is to me this is Superman like before like when I would watch Harry Caldwell I'm like this is a good Superman performance but Christopher Reeves is my Superman and it's always been that way
00:21:23
Speaker
this movie not this movie probably better than Superman just because it has updated visual effects that it was easier to make yeah there's more things you can do yeah yeah And I mean, the performances are pretty close. I love both of them.
00:21:35
Speaker
This is the best since since him, though. and Since Chris Buehler. Yeah. And I love Tyler Hoechlin. I love Brandon Routh. I love Henry Cavill. But this was the film that people who, because everyone's fallen into that thing where I feel like Superman's gotten so much hate the last 15 years for just being a boring character. Like, you can't do anything with Superman. Uh-huh. And this was the movie I feel like this is what people need, that he's just a hopeful character. He doesn't need to be dark. he doesn't need to brooding.
00:22:02
Speaker
He's supposed to be a kind human being. He doesn't need to be an omnipotent God or be looked at like a woman. He doesn't need to be compared to Jesus. It's like the laziest thing you can do. It's just like, yeah, this character is a God. He's like, oh, a God.
00:22:16
Speaker
Jesus. I know. i know exactly what I get. No, he's just – people forget and that. i think I think this movie, especially when you say to the end and when he has that – the final talk with the villain.
Superman Compared to a God: New Film's Approach
00:22:29
Speaker
This movie felt like a response to, you know, that scene in Kill Bill volume two, when Bill's talking about Superman. Yeah. It's like Superman's an alien. He's not a human. He came down here he grew up an alien. It's, it's the nature versus nurture conversation.
00:22:42
Speaker
He's not – he is an alien. He is by definition. He came from a different planet and just crash landed here. But he was raised human. And he makes that point. He feels all the human emotions. He's he's got the same body as a human.
00:22:54
Speaker
And he was raised by humans. He's just as human as any of us. He just has, you know, gifts from his – Yeah, what makes that different for anyone born from Earth that's a metahuman? Yeah, he was he being raised by human beings to be a human being, and that's that's what he is. That's what he's become.
00:23:08
Speaker
So, you know, it felt like a response to that scene in Kill Bill, which I think is good, because I think that scene, if you've seen that movie, it came out in the 90s. So I feel like that kind of influenced the perception of Superman for a lot of people. Yeah. And that maybe even Zack... Schneider. Schneider, yeah. Yeah.
00:23:29
Speaker
Just blanked. um Yeah, and just made the perception of Superman and how he's portrayed wrong. And I think James Gunn understood the character much better and is able to bring it back to what it should be, which is a very hopeful, vibrant, you know fun-loving, normal fucking dude, because he is just a normal kid from Kansas.
00:23:47
Speaker
Yeah, who just had him crash-land here as a baby. By the way, you ever notice see the original Christopher Reeve one? The little kid when he crash-lands. He's naked. He's butt-ass naked. I forgot about that until the other day. I didn't watch it again, but I remember I was at Nate's house when we were young.
00:24:03
Speaker
and this was I was young. This was back when Netflix was still sending DVDs. He got the you got the Superman DVD, and all of us were like- When he's lifting the car up? Yeah, all of us were like, yo, we can see that kid's dick. What the hell is happening? Yeah.
00:24:16
Speaker
I totally forgot about that. Amazing. First all, amazing introduction to Superman. That scene. Yeah. Like the fact that he picks up the He picks up the car. Awesome. And Ma Kent's like, we can tell him that he's a he's a son of a cousin from out of town. He's like, no, we're not keeping this random baby. It's so funny.
00:24:37
Speaker
awesome. I love the original. Especially when she's he's like, I got you. He's like, if you got me, who's got you? And he's flying up. Oh my God. yeah Great movie. I've seen, that's on my list of like most watched movies. Or when eat when they're getting robbed in the alley and he catches the bullet, he's like, got it.
00:24:52
Speaker
so He almost looks at the camera in that scene. He does look at the camera at the end. Does he? Yeah. You know, when he flies off of the earth at at the end, he's flying space. He like looks at the camera and nods at them. But that was the point is to make people feel like personalized to Superman. Yeah. yeah And this feels like that kind of Superman where like that could happen where he's like, yeah I love the scene.
00:25:11
Speaker
with the kid in the trailer everyone sees when he's lifting the thing. It just shows how much hope people have for Superman. Yeah. And he's just... And watching him save people at... Him... He saves a squirrel in this movie.
00:25:23
Speaker
It was one of the most important scenes to my brain. He's saving squirrels. Like, he saved he saves plenty of people in this movie. I know you were just sitting there enjoying that. I was having so much fun. I was so fucking happy. I felt bad when the dog hit the tree.
00:25:37
Speaker
I was like, oh, no! No! guy um yeah but he's he's saving people throughout this movie throughout every single fight he takes breaks to save people who are in immediate danger and then if somebody like like if something explodes he turns he's like is everybody okay you need to make sure you get out like he's making sure he understands he's powerful enough he's not really gonna get hurt he's gonna get the attack everyone around him that's the thing he needs to protect everybody around him he needs to be that symbol That's like, I'm good. Are you guys okay?
00:26:07
Speaker
That's the most important thing to him. And that's fucking perfect. And they they do a great job of. So the whole thing in the Zack Snyder movies is like, is he, he's a God, like we can't control him.
00:26:18
Speaker
This one, they do it in a way that makes sense of why they want to control him. And it's more that they are in fear of him because I don't want to give away what happened. Yeah. But a scene that I,
00:26:29
Speaker
Another scene from the trailer, it just hit in the moment. I think just being in the IMAX theater with people around. And you, I mean, there was audible gasp and cheers. Like people were so excited to see this. Oh yeah. Our theater was, they weren't like rocking like no way home. Like it wasn't like ecstatic. People were, you could hear like gasps and like a clap every now and again. And when there was a joke that hit, they would laugh. Like our theater was really good jokes in this movie.
00:26:51
Speaker
Yeah. The Martian toe, the mutant toes. Oh, people were dying. Dude, that got me. almost spit my drink out. But the scene that I, what I'm saying I loved was when he catches the building on the bridge.
00:27:04
Speaker
Yeah. comes up out of the ash of it. the ash The lady's just crying. It was just hope. When he's like floating up there. Oh my God, I loved it. And I will say, I called Ultraman long time ago. did. A long time ago.
00:27:17
Speaker
Yeah, I had no idea. Yeah, I had a feeling. And then i think I got my, corrected my guess because I think i eventually I said Bizarro. But that would have been pretty cool. I thought was – Pretty much is Bizarro. It's just not white.
00:27:28
Speaker
Like pale white. Yeah. So now it doesn't look like a zombie. Awesome. I love it. Bizarro is going to show up in this universe. Oh, eventually. Call it. Then we're going to get a Red Hood eventually. That's what I think I'm so excited about is how much James Gunn wants to expand on this world. Yeah. The fact that we're getting a Bane and Deathstroke movie.
00:27:45
Speaker
Yeah. That's pretty crazy. The script's – I think said halfway done on that though. Yeah. Although I will say, I think DC is going to take a little bit more time and like CGI stuff than Marvel does.
00:27:56
Speaker
Oh, it's going to be way bigger. Yeah. And longer time. Yeah. The longer... It's not going to be... They're not going to be pumping out two movies a year for whatever. Well, no. I think he said that is the plan. Maybe. Two years in a show a year.
00:28:08
Speaker
Okay. Then that would be pretty cool. he's not working on all of them. so But I think also, like I think time between Supermans would be longer than time between Iron Man movies. You know what yeah. You know what I'm saying? I bet you... Superman movie. The sequel doesn't come out until 2028.
00:28:21
Speaker
Yeah. 2029. It's going to be a while. Just because there's so much more to work on. Because these the characters are so much more, you know, it's gods and monsters. Yeah, it's gods becoming humans. And in the MCU, it's humans becoming.
00:28:32
Speaker
ah Is that what they say, DC? Yeah, more or less. Yeah, i know what you're saying. Like there's more huge heroes in the DC universe. Because it's like, yeah, you got. There's a Clayface movie. There's nothing like that. and I mean, the close thing that is.
00:28:45
Speaker
What's your name from X-Men? um Blue girl. Yeah. Mystique. Yeah. Yeah. That's not giant clay monster. Yeah. First of off, that movie is going to be fantastic.
00:28:55
Speaker
Clayface movie. It's a low budget body horror. Mike Flanagan wrote. I'm pretty excited. I'm pretty excited. That's going do you see the guy who made the director from Godzilla minus one has a meeting with DC this week about making a movie with them?
00:29:08
Speaker
Really? Yeah. People are like Superman versus Godzilla, which is in the comics. You haven't, you didn't know. There's another big director that met with DC. um I know they said Mahershala Ali met with DC.
00:29:21
Speaker
That'd be so funny if he shows up in the DC before that Marvel Universe. It'd be hilarious. Did you see him shit talk Marvel in his... yeah should He kind of like slides them in his interview. They were talking about Jurassic World tour on like the press junket.
00:29:35
Speaker
And like, so, how about the MCU? Because we got two people here and he's like, don't put me in that. And you we're like, ooh. I'm telling you. he I need a scene. I'm the only blade there's ever to be.
00:29:47
Speaker
What is he? What's the name? Only one blade. Only one blade. Yeah. Hell yeah. I need the scene from the Superman series, or it's just, it's Justice League, where Martian Manhunter has Christmas with Superman and his family.
00:29:58
Speaker
With the Kents. And he like walks, he's like, I'm a Martian. And he's like, oh honey, you're not the first alien we've had. and they like bring him in. And he doesn't like change to something, like he stays Martian Manhunter. That's cool.
00:30:10
Speaker
I need, um I need Santa delivering Dark Side Cole every Christmas. That is cool. Just animate it. Just for one Christmas. Just animate it and put it out for Christmas. It'd be great. It could have no dialogue.
00:30:22
Speaker
Yeah. Just like a portal opening and a present thing, a bag of coal landing at Darkseid's feet. It's such a funny comic strip. you know James Gunn was once Batmite in this world? He said his goal is to make sure Batmite shows up. That's cool. I would love to see Batmite. I mean, Batmite is canon if Peacemakers canon. Remember they talk about him?
00:30:41
Speaker
They do. Yeah. He's like, he's a little creepy freak. He says something about jerking off, I'm pretty sure, though. Yeah. I'm so excited for Peacemaker. Yeah, I didn't realize that's that's like early August, I think.
00:30:53
Speaker
This August? Yeah. Oh, shit. Yeah, I didn't realize it was so soon. Damn, we're going to have that and Alien Earth coming out. Is it? Alien Earth's the 8th of August. I think they pushed it back because swear it was July 11th for the longest time.
00:31:06
Speaker
I don't know. But yeah. um Peacemaker season 2, August 21st.
00:31:13
Speaker
We'll probably get a trailer sometime soon. We did get trailer. We got a full trailer of Peacemaker. Yeah, we did. what Was it a full trailer? Like a minute and a half. Oh, don't remember. It was like six months ago. Oh, okay.
00:31:23
Speaker
Yeah, you see the two Peacemakers fighting each other. Yeah, yeah, you're right. yeah Because they said the if that's going to have a huge effect. It's going to pretty much bring you into Supergirl. Okay. yeah Which i am so I completely forgot up until right when we were watching Superman that Lobo is the villain of that movie.
00:31:39
Speaker
Yeah. And Jason Momoa is playing Lobo. A fan casting that's been in the air for 10 years. That movie should be good. Yeah, he literally, he was like, man, fuck the DCEU. This thing's going so much better. It's just going to be straight back.
00:31:54
Speaker
This is already, if Supergirl is as good as this, or even a little bit below it. This is off to a way better start than DCEU. Oh, way better start. I mean it's already off to a better just start. Yeah. If you count Suicide Squad.
00:32:06
Speaker
Yeah. The Suicide Squad was the best DCEU movie, but this Superman might be marginally. There's such different movies. It's tough to compare. What, This and Man Steel? No, This and The Suicide Squad. Oh. Just which is a better movie because that's the best of the old DCEU.
00:32:22
Speaker
I think this – Yeah, and one's rated R and very violent. It's still like in a darker tone with comedy. I think this is a better film – For everyone. Yes. Than Suicide Squad was. Yeah, for sure.
00:32:32
Speaker
This is the, I mean, if you want to be introduced to Superman, you want to introduce someone to Superman, this is what you show them. You don't show them Man of Steel. Man Steel is for people who are big comic book people who want to see an injustice Superman. Yeah, want to see a darker take on it. Then that's that's fine.
00:32:47
Speaker
But it's not, your it shouldn't be your introduction to Superman. Yeah, and I think that's where the DCEU kind of started off rough. Yeah. Is that they were starting off on such a darker tone when people weren't expecting that.
00:32:59
Speaker
It's crazy that Christopher Nolan's directed that movie. Yeah, he did almost. He did write it. Did he? Yeah, him Snyder wrote it. Or they at least wrote the like outline for it. Yeah. I mean, Nolan's producer on it.
00:33:10
Speaker
yeah Yeah, I knew that. Yeah, he wanted to make it because originally he wanted Zack to make it with him in the Batman world. That just didn't happen. Man Steel, it's not the worst movie ever. I don't despise Man of Steel. It's the worst Superman movie by Superman 3 is worse, 4.
00:33:24
Speaker
Yeah. What is that called? Something of Peace. Yeah, I forget. It's not Requiem.
00:33:34
Speaker
I mean, poor Requiem. Alien vs. Predator. Fucking hate that movie. It's like a quest for peace, I think. Yeah,
Expansion of the DC Universe: New Characters
00:33:41
Speaker
something for that. The third one's not very good. Second one's really good.
00:33:49
Speaker
Yeah, I feel like it's... I guess Man Steel's right in the middle. Yeah. Because that in may and Superman Returns ka probably... yeah Man Steel has a lot of... Man of Steel is an awesome looking movie. Oh, it's a beauty. And Henry Cavill's great as Superman. Yeah. This, to me, though, is a much better Superman in my... Because, again, it's all subjective.
00:34:07
Speaker
To me, this is what I think Superman's supposed to be like. He's supposed to be the bright. And that's what makes him and Batman such a good pair-up. Because they are so drastically different. Yeah. That's why the World's Finest James Gunn should be the next Superman movie.
00:34:20
Speaker
Only if Batman's introduced first and gets his own movie. And it's good. Don't fall into that shit that DC did where Batman first movie is a... as a joint. God, that could have been so cool if you like led to that.
00:34:33
Speaker
Yeah. You build up to it. Yeah. Yeah. Just do one thing. Like have, oh boy, have a, have Batman's movie, be Batman's movie, but then like slowly leading into like him hating Superman. Maybe he's fighting like um another metahuman and he's like, okay, we need, we can't be having these guys. Cause I liked, like, there's parts of Zack Snyder's Batman version that I enjoy. Cause I think it is like,
00:34:57
Speaker
what you would expect if Bruce Wayne saw that happening, he's Batman. I think that that stuff's awesome. Like him watching Metropolis get destroyed. We love, he care about the but then it should have been, that should have been like us at the end of the Batman movie should have been him seeing that. And then they're like, Batman or return him.
00:35:14
Speaker
Batman V Superman, Dawn Justice. Yeah. It was just, a this is, that was a lot. But even this, this did a really good job because it is a very – it's not a super long movie.
00:35:25
Speaker
The actual runtime movie like an hour 40-something. I think it's a 2.09. Well, yeah, it's 2.09 with credits. It's 11 minutes of credits. Okay, so hour 59, hour 58. That's what I'm saying. So it's under two hours of like screen.
00:35:39
Speaker
Yeah. and we And there's a lot of characters in this. and And it's definitely a stuffed film. yeah But it never felt like Spider-Man 3 where nothing has time. It was on the line of it for a lot of it. Like it's a very, very dense movie that sometimes teeters on the line of bloat.
00:35:56
Speaker
But I think they do a good job of of getting the important stuff in. Like there's a lot of moments in this movie where you like – There were times in this movie I kind of got lost in the timeline of like, is this happening a couple of days later, like a couple weeks later, the next hour? Like there's some points you can't really tell and you get a little confused, but it's never enough to like really fully take you out of it. You're still in it. You still care about these characters. So you can kind of fill in the gaps on your own, but I do wish they kind of, I do wish there was maybe a little bit more, not story-wise, but just like, you know,
00:36:27
Speaker
in between scenes of just like bridges between scenes. Yeah. scene something yeah I think you like seeing Jimmy Olsen though. Yeah. Jimmy Olsen has his own story. Yeah. He's a huge part of the story. yeah And that's why i think I really just, I love jesus this movie. I had a great time.
00:36:44
Speaker
um Jimmy Olsen's honestly, I like Lois Lane was great. I forget her name already, but she was great. Yeah. Rachel Brosnan was fantastic as Lois Lane, much better than Amy Adams. Jimmy Olsen's terrible casting is lois lane by the way jimmy olsen's honestly more important to this story than lois lane is which is kind of funny it is kind of he does end up doing more but ah lois is in the movie more and she's more important to superman obviously but great chemistry by the way oh yeah they're good very much she's married i don't know how you sit there and watch me like god my girlfriend's making out my wife's so hot yeah uh what would you give superman i was thinking 84 okay we're not we're we're
00:37:23
Speaker
We're within three. We're back to this thing. Are you going higher or lower? put this – because 85 to me is an above average film. I feel like this is just above that mark for me.
00:37:34
Speaker
80 is like – which sounds crazy because if you've got 80 on a test, you're very happy. But it's a B. Yeah. A B-level movie to me is the average. like yeah That's what you should shoot for. you get above that, great.
00:37:45
Speaker
I don't think it's a perfect movie like a lot of the scores say with 90s. It's not at all a perfect movie, but – um But it gives you hope. It made me happy. Like the Ryan said, there's scenes where my jaw was on the floor. There's scenes where was smiling. I was cheering. I like not actually.
00:38:00
Speaker
he out you Yeah. But like I was happy to be there. was happy to be watching Superman. And it brought me joy. It made me feel like I was a little kid again watching the animated series. Because that's what Superman is supposed to be like. He's supposed to bring you hope and happiness.
00:38:13
Speaker
And that's why later on down this line, when the stories are going to get darker, James Gunn has said this. He's like, there's eventually going to be bigger bads that happen. it will make Superman getting hurt and the people around him getting hurt hit so much more.
00:38:26
Speaker
Yeah. That's why you don't care at the end of BVS that Superman dies. Yeah. If you're building, whatever if you're building a universe, you need to start off with a great base, which is what makes the first Iron Man so good because it's a fantastic base to build that and story around.
00:38:41
Speaker
But you need to like, I guess like James Gunn was saying, like if you start off easy and like very happy and hopeful, it's going to make those later darker movies more, hit way hard because you don't want these people to know don't want anyone from this cast to die i like all these characters well maybe lex luther but yeah great ending with him and superman yeah love that scene with a good speech that seemed like um this way that the score plays out when he's standing up a little bit so it's like him looking at lex it felt like kind of like hey this is the first of numerous like this is the start yeah this like um
00:39:17
Speaker
this battle between the two of them. Yeah. This rivalry. Yeah. It's weird being, it's weird like being this old for the start of hopefully a ah new long universe because, but it could be cool because you could, I could be married and have kids by the time. No, that's what I'm
Experiencing the DC Universe as Adults vs. Childhood
00:39:31
Speaker
saying. It's it's cool because the first Iron Man came out in 2008. I was five years old. I couldn't, I couldn't understand, you know and mean?
00:39:37
Speaker
The first Avengers was 2012. That was the first one I remember going to theaters. I didn't see it in theaters. I remember going to theaters. I saw it with my mom and I remember, I remember liking the movie, but I remember the opening when Loki's just going through stabbing dudes. Oh, you're scared? I was so scared. Makes sense. I'm like, that looks like it hurts.
00:39:54
Speaker
Oh, yeah. My dad was doing something. that He couldn't go to see it in theaters. So I remember I like waited to watch with my dad. Yeah. And we watched my basement. Yeah. But I'm saying like the MCU, we grew up with it. So we were able to – it means a lot to us because it was though we we both kind of grew up with it.
00:40:09
Speaker
Yeah. And it really kind of hit that peak, like the Infinity War endgame when I was in high school. So that was good. I was also in high school. Yeah, you were in high school. a senior. Yeah. And then, um but like this, like you were saying, like you could be married with kids. I'll probably be living in a dumpster, but...
00:40:28
Speaker
um i I didn't want to say that you're going don't know if you want to get married. No, I'll be like Oscar the Grouch at your house. trash can Give me more trash. ah Give me more trash.
00:40:39
Speaker
What was I going to say? But yeah, I think that's why I'm excited about it is that. We get to see it with our new like, you know. Like a new part of my life. And it's – We get to watch this whole thing grow through our new like, you know, our more film lens that yeah so it we've grown. MCU, I just knew I liked Iron Man. So I wanted to watch Iron Man. Yeah, the MCU. We were kids. We were like, oh, superheroes. That's cool. Now we're like, is this a good movie or no?
00:41:03
Speaker
Yeah, because i think I think we've talked about Green Lantern was like the first time I ever was in a movie, and I was like, this is bad. yeah Like, this is not what Green Lantern is supposed to be like. Like, we're not geniuses by any rate. We're two dumbasses just talking about movies. We know more than we did when we started. Yes, way more. And I think going be cool watching this universe grow and develop and continue to play out. And he is a film buff, James Gunn. Like, he loves film. Oh, he loves it. Yeah.
00:41:24
Speaker
He loves everything. He loves film, music, comics, like everything. The trunks on the outside was so – I was so happy. Yeah. That was – apparently that was all David Cornswain. Yeah. Because James Gunn didn't know if you wanted to do it And then David Cornswain was like, no, you got to do And then David Cornswain gave the speech about like – It should be goofy. It's supposed to be of goofy. kids to feel comfortable. Yeah.
00:41:43
Speaker
I love that scene when he's like holding the kids. He's like, hey, you got you guys all okay? Yeah. Which then turns very sad very quickly. Very – yeah. But – Poor Superman. Still great. Superman. Oh, what about Superman's friend?
00:41:56
Speaker
The – The food truck guy. Oh my God. I was shocked. why um I guess we're getting the spoilers because I feel like there's not much more we can talk about before. yeah Another thing, though, I do want to mention.
00:42:09
Speaker
ah There's a lot of supporting characters in this movie. Never take them. They take the spotlight now and again, but Superman is always the main character. Yeah, like it's never anyone else's movie. Yes. It never falls into that. spot Like there's some MCU movies where it feels like the supporting character. It becomes their movie. It kind of takes away from the main story.
00:42:27
Speaker
Yeah. Like so well Civil War shouldn't have been a Captain America movie. That never made sense to me in my brain. Yeah, just call it Civil War. I guess, I mean, it does, the main story does revolve around Captain America, but it also revolves around T'Challa. Like, it should have been called Avengers Civil War. Yeah. Like, why is Captain America Civil War? But yeah, the supporting characters, there's a ton of them.
00:42:46
Speaker
They never fully steal the limelight. They all, they're all fun. i liked all of them, but they all have the perfect amount of screen time. Mr. Terrific is a scene stealer, though. Oh, yeah, he was awesome. Especially you' never knew anything about him, so, like. Yeah, like me. I didn't i didn't know anything. and he I thought he was just going to be like the guy in the chair, smart guy. He started whipping people's asses. i like yeah He killed a lot of those people. yeah There were some that were moving. I was like, okay, those ones aren't dead.
00:43:11
Speaker
There was ones that were definitely dead. The science dorks who didn't have any armor and he was just – Did him put the ball in the one dude's face? He's like shot. The dude like denses up. Yeah, it was good. Yeah, Mr. Jervis cool.
00:43:22
Speaker
Yeah, second superhero movie for him. Yeah. beors Not Avengers. X-Men First Class. First Class. Very sad death in that. Darwin. Yeah. Yeah. It's the worst. What was I going to say? Oh, yeah. Spoilers.
00:43:34
Speaker
But yeah, go see the movie and then come back and watch this. I'm telling you, it is a great time. it is. First of my popcorn was hot and like good. Yeah. Great popcorn. God, you are such a big, you are a popcorn snob. And I used to not be a popcorn. I had such bad popcorn so many times a row that I didn't.
00:43:49
Speaker
had popcorn for a while the last couple of times, ever since we went saw bring her back. Yeah. You've been loving that popcorn. dude It's been good. It's been like, hasn't been like chewy. It's been like crunch. Yeah. It's good. But yeah, it's a great time. I'm telling you, if you have kids, it,
00:44:04
Speaker
don't know how many people that listen to us have kids. Kids must love this. That's what saying. This is like right up their alley. Yeah. And it still is dark enough that it's not a kid's movie. And they're still cursing. There's still things. Yeah. But then yeah.
00:44:15
Speaker
But like I'm saying, like, it's not too dark. Like you couldn't bring a kid to so certain kids couldn't see Man Steel. Sure. Kids can see this. Yeah. Kids can absolutely it. still sat there and loved it. And I'm yeah not a kid anymore.
00:44:27
Speaker
Was this PG-13? PG-13. PG-13. That's what I thought. Yeah. Do you like the middle fingers? Yeah. It's funny. Guy Gardner's the dude. My dad's going love Guy Gardner. Oh, 100%.
00:44:38
Speaker
But yeah, go check it out. We're going to talk about Spooly's now. So when Thanos came through that. die man shows up That post-credit scene with Spider-Man. Holy shit. But yeah, let's first let's get the ending out the way. Team man.
00:44:52
Speaker
What? and so there I'm thinking of a team. Batman, Superman, Spider-Man. Iron Man. Iron Man. It's the man team. wonder Wonder Woman's like, guys, can I?
00:45:05
Speaker
No. No. You're not allowed. The family guy with the hands going to stick them. the peg No, no, not you. no, no. Superwoman. Guys, I'm way better. I could kick Spider-Man's ass. He's like, no, fuck off.
00:45:17
Speaker
But yeah, Millie Alcock does show up in this. Yeah, I was your girl not expecting that. And she right away, I was like, this is perfect. yeah Because Supergirl, there's iterations where she's just like Superman.
00:45:30
Speaker
Woman of Tomorrow is not that story. She is crazy. She's violent. I have no idea. I have no idea. She is murderous. I'm ready. And she calls Superman a bitch.
00:45:41
Speaker
And you find out that Crypto is her dog and he's just been watching. And yeah, she's, I'm so excited. That movie is going to be wild. I mean, it's like Lobo. Lobo is really just a punk guy who has a guitar and a murder cycle. going to be fun.
00:45:57
Speaker
Yeah. So that was really cool to see her. I did not expect that. And she's got like the Supergirl like skirt and everything. Like she's rocking the full suit. i glad they didn't do the headband. Yeah. Yeah. Did you know that was supposed to be the original Supergirl movie?
00:46:10
Speaker
Like the original old one, like the Christopher Reed. It wasn't Christopher Reed, but there was an old one. Yeah. Yeah. They were supposed to have the headband. Really? They cut it, but the comics were going to do the headband to like, you know, be in interjoined with the movie. Yeah.
00:46:24
Speaker
They printed the comics before the movie cut it. So they were like, fuck, we got stick with this dumb ass headband now. That movie's terrible. Yeah. It's not great. But. yeah she shows up in the fly. Remember?
00:46:36
Speaker
Oh, yeah, she does. thats That scene is one of the most evil things ever that they made that. Especially that they didn't reach out to the Reeves family. No. Fuck you. DCEU.
00:46:47
Speaker
Stupid. Dumbass movie. Oh, i never I remember being so male walking out of the flesh. Hated that movie. it It was terrible. We knew in the first scene it was bad. Yeah. And then I settled down. I was like, all right, funny bad. It's going to be funny bad.
00:47:00
Speaker
It's pretty funny bad. and You were just despised that movie. Because it did the lasso of truth to Batman again. Yeah. Dumbass scene. And they cut the scene that Michael Kean talked about. That him and Batfleck shared this stupid ass movie.
00:47:16
Speaker
But I have so much hope in this universe. And i I've been saying for a long time, I think James Gunn is going to be fantastic. We've both said it. We've been very confident in this guy doing this universe. And I think he's off to a fantastic start.
00:47:29
Speaker
Creatures in Command is at 90. Suicide Squad is at 94, I think. This is 83 critic, I'd say 96 audience. This movie is going to make Buku money.
00:47:40
Speaker
Buku bucks. Yeah, Buku bucks. You know why we still call bucks? We used to trade pelts. Yeah. Really? Yeah, I just never knew that. It's stuck. Fully a guess. It's stuck for money.
00:47:53
Speaker
But yeah. Interesting. I think I'm so in awe of this movie and just there's been such a long time since I've like watched ah superhero that I was like, oh my God, that's – because most of the time I'm looking at like, oh, how's Tom Holland's performance of Spider-Man? house yeah This was like, oh my God, Superman. Like he's here. It's like – Especially because I never really saw him in anything before.
00:48:15
Speaker
So this is kind of my introduction. Well, you saw him in one thing. Pearl. Oh, yeah. I forgot that was him. The movie guy. Yeah. She kills him. She does kill him. but yeah's leaner on that he's awesome He's much bigger in this.
00:48:27
Speaker
like not so He's also in Twisters. He is in Twisters. I didn't watch the whole movie, but I saw him. He's wearing a hat and sunglasses, and I was like, that's Superman. yeah I said to my dad when we were in Twisters, I was like, that's the guy who's playing Superman. He's like, he looks so small. was like, he didn't buff up yet. He auditioned for the screen test of Superman.
00:48:47
Speaker
On a Saturday, so he flew from Oklahoma while on Twisters, California, did it, came back Sunday and filmed Monday. Got a call on Tuesday. They got the role. That's awesome.
00:48:58
Speaker
I mean, there's a video somewhere they said of him like telling everyone that he got the role. Really? Yeah, like he had all the actors in the room. They had like their phones and everything. I'm Superman. That's awesome. ah Remember everyone thought Glenn Powell was going to be a Booster Gold?
00:49:12
Speaker
That was like the big rumor. Oh, yeah. I still think he should have been Booster Gold. Who is Booster Gold? um From Eternals, the comedian. Kumar. Oh, no not Johnny? Yeah, he's Booster Gold.
00:49:25
Speaker
Hey, I love him as an actor, and Booster Gold is a normal dude. Yeah, I don't know anything about Booster Gold. that's I think that's why he's doing so many of the smaller characters. So he's doing Superman, and then he's going to a bunch of the small characters just to like introduce you to this world. And he said...
00:49:40
Speaker
Anyone can show up in any movie. I mean, there's a whole fight scene that goes on in the background of this seat movie that Superman never gets involved in. Yeah. It's just an alien.
00:49:53
Speaker
And that's why i like this movie so much. It puts you into this new world. And it shows you like, oh, that's a normal thing. Don't worry about it. Yeah. He's like, they got that. I don't need to be part of this.
00:50:05
Speaker
And it was it's great to see a movie where superheroes are actually liked. yeah There's so many where they're hated. Yeah, there's so many where like they're the outcast. nobody It makes sense why they kind of turn em and turn on them in this movie, though.
00:50:17
Speaker
Yeah, it does. But even even when they turn on them in this movie, half the people are like, there's no way this is true. But just the the government, the people who are actually can do something.
00:50:30
Speaker
The monkeys. Super shit. Weird audio problem. We're right back, though. You want to tell? We're going splice them right back. You can't even tell. No, you can't even tell. So those monkeys, huh?
00:50:45
Speaker
Yeah, the monkeys talk shit. They talked a lot of shit. Super shit. Nicholas Holt was fantastic as Lex Luthor. Yeah, and he was my main worry going into this. right I didn't know if he could pull off like villain as well. He's just a hater.
00:51:00
Speaker
yeah He's an asshole. Professional hater. The cup on the table fits so perfectly to Lex Luthor. Yeah, it was great. yeah But yeah, I'm excited. He wants to... I forgot you've never seen Batman.
00:51:13
Speaker
The Batman Superman movie, World's Finest, which you're going to watch. okay It's so good. think it's like an hour. It's like a TV movie. Then let's watch it.
00:51:24
Speaker
Then let's watch it. um Come on. But yeah, he wants to have his Lex Luthor and Joker to work together. Which I think it would be really cool to finally see that. Because we don't ever see Joker work with people, but he does.
00:51:36
Speaker
yeah Especially in the comics. i I need the Legion of Doom. And I need like the big head with the red glowing eyes is like they're building. And I need it in the swamp. That's how it is the comics. And that'd be so cool to see.
00:51:50
Speaker
Who do you think would be the Joker? in ah Bill Skarsgård. Bill Skarsgård? I'm so down for that. not opposed to that. you could And he's also like 6'6". He's just going to be looking down on Batman. You finally get a Joker who can like throw hands and fight.
00:52:04
Speaker
because there is Jokers that are much more like fighters than there's Jokers that aren't. Like, there's Jokers. No Joker is, like, beating Batman, usually, unless he's fucked up. yeah already heard. But there are Jokers who can kind of, you know.
00:52:15
Speaker
Do you remember the show The Batman, where the Joker had, like, the dreadlocks? Like, the long green hair? It's the where he fights Dracula. No. What? No. Damn. don't remember.
00:52:26
Speaker
Loser. like Yeah. Great show. But yeah, that Joker was, like, imposing. Like, he was very muscular. Mm-hmm. He was cool. Yeah, Batman fights Dracula in that world. Very banger movie.
00:52:37
Speaker
Still scary to this day. I watched it last year. Mahershala Ali. That's Dracula. mean, Dracula? Before. I would so be down to do like these kind of movies in this universe. Yeah. Like, go if you're going comic book, which is this one, this is an anime movie and comic book brought to life. And I know that's used a lot in superhero films, but this is that.
00:52:56
Speaker
Like, this feels like it. it It does. Yeah. Doesn't feel grounded. Like this is – there's a giant 100-something foot alien monster in the world that they fight. That's like a scene.
00:53:07
Speaker
Yeah. It's a distraction. That's all is. And then there's the other creature that he just – he's like, don't watch it. It's fine. It's fine. So what does he – it's like an – it's an interdimensional niff. Yeah.
Humorous Character Moments and Misunderstandings of Powers
00:53:17
Speaker
He's like, they can handle that.
00:53:18
Speaker
And it's funny when she like stops paying attention, you see her head slowly looking out the window as things get a little intense. Did you notice in the background, Guy Gardner beating her bad? Yeah, it was so funny. Yeah, it was funny to watch them trying to fight it in the background, just doing nothing.
00:53:31
Speaker
And then he put a net around it and it just got smaller and smaller. Yeah, it was good. um And people, first off, people online, you need to look into things before you tweet or say something stupid. Because people are like, oh my God, Guy Gardner, he can't do that where he comes out of the ground smashes things. His hand needs to be near it.
00:53:47
Speaker
No, it doesn't. it can It's literally just his brain. It's just his, of fuck, what's the power? A strong mind. Like, that's what he needs. He needs to have like, And so he can do anything he wants. It's anything he imagines he can make it do.
00:54:01
Speaker
Yeah. So fuck you. bunch of middle fingers. Yeah. flumen Awesome. Awesome. It was
Speculation on Justice League Formation
00:54:07
Speaker
pretty cool. Metamorphosis is I was wondering what they're going with him. Hmm.
00:54:12
Speaker
So it's cool that he's going to join what eventually will be the Justice Society. or the justice I'm assuming it's going to be the Justice League because it's the Hall of Justice. And they're just to the big Justice League where it's like 180 people in it. Yeah, it's all of them. Yeah, which i I'm so down for.
00:54:25
Speaker
yeah So I guess that's what going towards, but I guess it's them building the Justice League. Yeah, I assumed it was going to be Justice Society. Because I guess it's really not the Justice Society. That's Adam Smasher. Yeah.
00:54:35
Speaker
But I assume just because it was like, you know, it's Hulk girl. Yeah. just yeah So I assume... The Justice Society gets formed into Wonder Woman, so maybe when they do the Wonder Woman movie, that's what it'll be. Yeah. Maybe there's some storyline where they and you know just break off and make their own thing. Yeah. Maybe there's you know an argument.
00:54:50
Speaker
like Or like they need to like protect more, and they want to be like spread out. Yeah.
Funding the Justice League: Maxwell Lord and Bruce Wayne
00:54:55
Speaker
So who do you think is paying for the Justice? Maxwell Lord. That's what they said. Oh, did they? He's funding it. Okay, I missed that.
00:55:02
Speaker
Oh, yeah, because he runs the yeah a Justice Gang. But then eventually, I have a feeling Bruce Wayne's going He's going to buy Maxwell. They need to do
Batman Animated Series Nostalgia
00:55:13
Speaker
the space. hey Please tell me you've seen Justice Unlimited.
00:55:16
Speaker
No, but I know what you're talking about. I know the Justice you watch any like the DC animated series? No. That's crazy. I never watched them. I never got in you never saw Batman with the fucking three feet ears? No.
00:55:26
Speaker
But I did. I did. that one um I need you to walk look at that. Okay. There was one Batman cartoon that I did like. it was on Cartoon Network. It was like him and Katana. just fighting like ninjas and shit. Really? I think it was just called like the Batman or something. It was called something and it's, I had a tough time finding it before. i was like a season or two, but the show was awesome.
00:55:46
Speaker
Was it the one where he's like super thin? Yeah. Yeah. That was like 2011. Okay. It was only on for like a season or Yeah. It wasn't. People didn't love the animation. I was one of those people. I liked I thought it was cool, but I was also a kid. So I was like, whoa, this is that different.
00:55:59
Speaker
Yeah. Justice League Unlimited Batman. yeah Yeah. I'm telling you, it makes no sense why his ears are so big. Getting it in and out of the Batmobile and under doorways had to be a pain for this man.
00:56:11
Speaker
Justice League Unlimited Batman. So long. Yeah, that's pretty long.
00:56:17
Speaker
That one? No. Oh, that's the one I looked up. I'll find it. Justice League Unlimited. Yeah. That one? Yeah, we need it from a different... Oh, go to the picture right below with him in the Flash.
00:56:28
Speaker
Oh, big ol' ears. big yeah i always thought about like he have to like duck in the back yeah yeah it's pretty big that was yeah that took place after the batman anime series okay after batman adventures yeah which was the s sequel series which had nightwing in it but not enough of me nerding out um i'd never get enough of that buddy keep going this film is i mean it's like iron man it's the perfect building block
Foundation for Future Superman Stories
00:57:01
Speaker
much. It sets up a great villain at the start, and they didn't have to kill off the villain, so you know Lex is still out there. yeah It's going to be interesting to see how he gets out, how that all works out.
00:57:11
Speaker
Because you know Nicholas Holt's not done. Lex Luthor's going to be a key part of this universe, especially with the multiverse and him opening portals. yeah That's going to huge part of the future.
00:57:22
Speaker
So I'm super excited to see where they went with this, where they're going with it. And I mean, that's all I really have to say. I think the movie's fantastic. I think people need to go watch it. And if if you've never seen anything Superman related, this is the movie to get started with.
00:57:35
Speaker
And I'm really excited to see how people we know react to it. Especially like people who love Schneider. It's called like Beware the Batman. Yeah, looking at it now, it's kind of ugly. Yeah. no The Batman TV show was the shit. Yeah. One of the coolest intros.
00:57:49
Speaker
Fought Dracula. Scared me to death. Sweet. Vicki Vale, I think it's taken by Dracula. I did watch Gotham though. On Fox. And all the shit you watch. It was good for like a season two.
00:58:01
Speaker
First two seasons are really good. Second season's good. Second season's good when it's like ah Joker but not Joker. Yeah, it's not Jeremiah. Jeremiah's the one that takes over after Jerome, right? Yeah, I think. Jerome's cool.
00:58:12
Speaker
Yeah. Jerome's the one that falls off the building, right? No, that's Jeremiah. That he like holds his hand out to him to help him. He's like, we're doing this forever. Let's go. Yeah. But he's cool Joker. And then Mackenzie was very good as Jim Gordon.
00:58:24
Speaker
Mm-hmm. It is crazy that they got him and what's her name? Started dating because of that. Yeah, got married. im married you though I'm pretty sure they were both married before.
00:58:36
Speaker
Then he got her pregnant before they got married. Really? I think. I could be fucking that up. It was either before they got divorced or just after. They were like, hmm. That's not math in here.
00:58:47
Speaker
Is there any final things you want to add? but Good movie. Very good movie. It was good movie. I also had a good keeper cut list. You did have a very good keeper cut list. I don't think I changed it at all. I feel like I need to i need to do a better job next time.
00:59:01
Speaker
yeah and Yeah. I feel like i made I made it too even. Yeah. You got to throw more curveballs. Yeah. got to I feel like you got a favor it one way, like more good ones or more. but I did way too even. um But yeah, that would be the end of our Superman review. But of course, we're going jump into fan questions that I i wrote down.
00:59:17
Speaker
Ooh. Thank you guys for everyone who submitted fan questions. always like to go through them. and First question is from Jordan C.
James Gunn's Direction: Hope and Action Balance
00:59:26
Speaker
Richmond, Virginia. With James Gunn directing, do you think Superman will finally balance hope and action the way fans have been waiting for?
00:59:32
Speaker
Yes, and I think it does the best that Superman movie has done. It was hard to film action for the Superman early 70s ones. They just didn't have the effects yet. This one they do, and it's done very well. And Man of Steel has great action, but doesn't have the hope that I want.
00:59:45
Speaker
This has both. This has plenty of both. Yeah. Plenty of action. Um.
00:59:55
Speaker
Trevor from Sacramento. Do you think Guns Superman will learn lean more into the classic golden age charm or modern realism? It leans very much in that golden age of superheroes. Yeah. I feel like these these are questions we should have done before. movie Let find some good.
01:00:10
Speaker
Oh, ESP Golf, our guest we had on. He said, to you guys, that is this the definitive Superman film? It's this or the 78 Superman Yeah, for sure. like it It feels the most like what I imagine the character. yeah I think it certainly will be for this, like for younger kids who maybe haven aren't super familiar with that or like their parents didn't make them watch it.
01:00:35
Speaker
you know If this is this is a kid, if a kid has only seen Man of Steel and this, this would be the definitive one. Yeah. I'd hope. Yeah, I'd hope they take it that way. um Last one.
01:00:47
Speaker
um Marcus from Atlanta, Georgia.
Nicholas Holt as Lex Luthor and Villain Debuts
01:00:50
Speaker
How would you rank the super – how do you feel about – sorry, read two questions. How do you feel about Nicholas Holt as Luther and who deserves a proper debut in the DC universe villain-wise?
01:01:01
Speaker
Oh, villain-wise? Does this mean like a villain that hasn't seen a movie yet? If they mean debut. Yeah, I mean debut. First off, Nicholas Holt, fantastic, crushes it. Probably – it's definitely the best Lex Luthor we've gotten.
01:01:13
Speaker
Yeah. Or maybe the one that you can't tell if he's white or black in the animated series, but you wouldn't understand. Yeah. do I know. I've seen before. Never tell. Yeah. I mean, Gene Hackman's classic, but he's also just kind of a little more generic. just Yeah. this This was really fun to watch. Yeah. Way better than Jesse Eisenberg.
01:01:31
Speaker
Yeah. And yeah definitely better than Kevin Spacey. It wasn't bad, but he's he's trying to do a Gene Hackman because it's a sequel. Yeah. this This is the best version I think we will get of Lex Luthor. And it was fantastic. it was very good.
01:01:43
Speaker
Yeah. what v Man Bat. I've been saying this for years. I won a Man Bat movie so badly. That's a good debut. i mean Mine wouldn't be a debut, but a proper Scarecrow.
01:01:56
Speaker
Killian Murphy's cool. i think kill if If they actually went for Scarecrow, Killian Murphy would have been a really cool Scarecrow. because Scarecrow, he's not. Yeah, but he's just kind of like a dude. It's a realistic take on what Scarecrow's going to be. You might Scarecrow in the Pattinson movie.
01:02:08
Speaker
Yeah. um What else? There was another character i was going to say. Oh, I would love, again, not a debut. I would love a legitimate comic-y Mr. Freeze. Yeah.
01:02:18
Speaker
Like, head in the... Head in the thing. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. That'd be awesome. But not as hokey as the Schumacher cut. Yeah. I mean, it's more so just Batman villains. Like, Professor Pig would be a wild movie. I mean, Brainiac.
01:02:31
Speaker
Yeah, Brainiac. It's crazy that we've never gotten Brainiac in a movie. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Professor Pig's in Gotham, but... That's not... I want, like, real... If I'm going to Professor Pig, it needs to be, like, rated R. Yeah. That...
01:02:41
Speaker
You know, that might happen. a rated R Professor Pig, like just slasher movie. Yeah, it really could. When they're doing a Clayface Horror Solo movie, it has nothing do Batman. Yeah. Yeah, it certainly could happen. Batman has appeared in the DCU, though.
01:02:54
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Dude, I wouldn't mind that if they just went... What? Batman showed up in this universe already. Did he? Mm-hmm. You just haven't seen Is he the Ridge Commandos? Maybe. All right, then yes. Oh, wait, no, I remember i remember that. Yeah. yeah Awesome. way Especially when you weren't expecting... I was sitting there, was like...
01:03:11
Speaker
Batman? Yeah. It's literally like that. But he said that might be like how they do Batman at first. Like he'll be like in the background, be on the top of a building. pop in. Snatch somebody. Yeah.
01:03:22
Speaker
Have you seen that? Did you see that? Somebody made a ah quick video. It wasn't real, but it was like a Batman horror game. Yeah. they It's body cam, but they added a mod. Yeah. Yeah. Horror game.
01:03:35
Speaker
That was a mode in Arkham Origins. Really? You play as There's two
Desire for Reverse Flash and Other Villains
01:03:41
Speaker
heroes. It's Batman and Nightwing. And they everyone else is fighting as like guards. And you have to like sneak down. take It's so much fun. Me and Joe Carpenter, shout out, Joe.
01:03:51
Speaker
um if If you ever listen to this show. But yeah, shout out. ah Only good part about Arkham Origins. The PvP mode. um um Yeah, I'm trying to think. like I mean, because there's not many great villains. would love to see a reverse Flash, like in a movie.
01:04:08
Speaker
Yeah. Because we didn't get him in the flash. We got whatever the fuck that thing was. and a In the movie? Yeah. It's not reverse flash. Yeah, no, it's not reverse flash. Yeah, I forget.
01:04:20
Speaker
um It's him just in the future. The flash, the the CW flash, reverse flash. Yeah, people loved him. yeah That's what I'm saying. I was like, the flash. Just to talk about a professional hater. Oh.
01:04:31
Speaker
Reverse Flash? Dude, there's some great memes of the the reverse Flash. Just the touch of a man's touch. That was me, Barry. um Bizarro.
01:04:42
Speaker
Killer Croc, I know we got him in the Suicide Squad. Only ah one of the best parts of that movie is that he's in that and he looks so cool. But I would like to see Batman. does look cool, but I'd like a more like crocodile looking. But like I would love to see like Batman leaving dinner. Have you ever seen that comic clip?
01:04:58
Speaker
Oh, yeah. He leaves them like Thanksgiving dinner. Yeah. Like, that's what I want to see. Like, I wanted to go. Batman's a dark, scary character. Batman has a heart. Yeah. Batman. I would like to see that.
01:05:10
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. There's so many characters I'd like to see. I'd love to see Zod in them again as a Superman villain. um Joker.
01:05:20
Speaker
ah Yeah. i mean, a lot of them are Batman villains. Yeah, he just has so many. I mean, you know better than that. like I think it's probably the biggest Superman one, but again, he's like a Thanos-level threat. Yeah. I'd love to see Darkseid again. Mm-hmm.
01:05:33
Speaker
Because, mean, Darkseid and the Snyder Coves, you see him for like 10 minutes. Yeah. and it's the most memorable 10 minutes of the movie. That's super cool. You see the Omega being. Yeah, Darkseid's also the the final boss for all. Yeah, like that's.
01:05:46
Speaker
Yeah. I guess that's their Galactus out anything. Is Galactus, like, the I would say Galactus is, like, one of the big bosses of the MCU. Yeah, because Galactus is... Well, Doctor Doom's technically bigger than both of them, because he's stronger than both them.
01:05:57
Speaker
Doctor Doom just does fucking anything and everything. He can be that small villain, or he can be the biggest villain. Yeah. I'm very excited to see Doctor Doom. Galactus is older than fucking time itself, so... He's older than any of the, like, Eternal... are What are the...
01:06:13
Speaker
What are the guys that made the Eternals? Yeah, the guys that made the Eternals. I remember. The ones that are in the ocean? The one that's in the yeah yeah' on the ocean? oh Yeah.
01:06:25
Speaker
Yeah, I don't remember. don't remember. I would like to see that team. There's a team. It's Red Hood. It's one of the... What's Wonder Woman's Island called? Themyscira. It's a Themyscira and Warrior.
01:06:36
Speaker
think it's the one from Creators and Commanders. um Red Hood and Bizarro are like a team. Really? They're so much fun. yeah You know the scene from um go Lenny of Mice Men.
01:06:48
Speaker
There's a very similar picture. Just look at the flowers. Bizarro holding a flower behind him. You don't know what happens, but I actually don't know because think I stopped reading.
01:06:59
Speaker
That stinks. That sad. I think he lives because Bizarro's in a comic now. But it could also be a re-release. Yeah. But yeah, that's a team. i don't remember what they're called. They might be called the Revengers or something because they do all kill people.
01:07:11
Speaker
The Revengers. um But yeah, there's a lot of – I mean, yeah. If you count Red Hood as a villain, and i would love – Yeah. That's like one of my – Like a real proper
James Gunn's Risk-Taking in the DC Universe
01:07:21
Speaker
Red Hood movie. Like just demolishing people and – yeah There's so much you can do in this universe.
01:07:26
Speaker
And there's so much – again, the DCEU found a thing of doing the same, same villains we've always seen. Yeah. I want different things. I think James Gunn is ready to do that. Like, especially now that he has, he's ah video games and animated projects are a part of this universe.
01:07:44
Speaker
So I think it's so big for them. Yeah. I think it's super cool. Um, And then you got like the R-rated Clayface movie. And then you're doing in Batman, which is hopefully a different tone than this. It has to be. Yeah. Brave and the Bold. You got Clayface. You got this woman of ah just Supergirl. um Booster Gold, who's, again, characters that we've never even got hints of. Yeah.
01:08:04
Speaker
Which is just like James Gunn is willing to do all sorts of different things. He's not just doing the same like, you know, MCU movies kind of have a very similar tone. they You know, we've been with them for so long that they're super cookie cutter.
01:08:17
Speaker
The only differences in the movies are often like the characters or maybe like the director has like a different style that changes it up a little bit. yeah Thunderbolts was the most different thing we've gotten. I mean, yeah. Years from the MCU. Or like the original Ant-Man had that kind of like, you know, I still wish Edgar Wright directed it, but the writing by Edgar Wright just has that snappy. It had that feel. Yeah. It has a different feeling than like the Iron Just you know, when a Russo's brother Avengers, a Russo's, a Russo brothers film in the franchise is happening because it has a very definitive feel to it, sound to it, a look to it.
01:08:46
Speaker
You know, But I feel like that's where... this world is so cool is because James Gunn is going to run Superman. Yeah. But someone else is going to run Batman. Someone else is going to run that. I feel like James Gunn is enough of like an artist to be able to understand that like you just allow people to full out, you know, complete their visions and have their stories and not like maybe Andy Muschietti, who still don't have the most faith in for Brave and Bold. Maybe he's the Batman Maybe he takes like an it approach to it though, like more serious, like the yeah dark violent. I would love that.
01:09:13
Speaker
Because it one is fantastic. Andy Muschietti kills it. Yeah. It's just a flash. The Flash also, I feel like there's so much, like, there was so much studio backlash with that. Yeah. They were transferring over. I don't fully blame him at all.
01:09:25
Speaker
And I mean, the Batman scenes aren't the bad scenes of The Flash. Some of them are. Some of them. The Lats of the scene is pretty shitty. Terrible scene. But watching Michael Keaton throw some hands was pretty fucking cool. Yeah, it was neat.
01:09:37
Speaker
yeah Yeah. But I think like I'm excited to see R-rated projects come out of this. yeah like If you get an R-rated project that goes into a PG-13 movie, it's like, oh, shit, this fucking guy is back in here? That's crazy.
01:09:49
Speaker
I think just just having that the options to make very different stories, not just like... not just a little bit tonal differences, just like fully different types of projects and then have them mend and meld into each other.
01:10:03
Speaker
That's going to super cool to watch. Yeah. I mean, I wasn't even thinking Frankenstein and the bride of Frankenstein are in this universe. Yeah. Like they're canon to this world.
Success of Creature Commandos Series
01:10:11
Speaker
If you watch Cruiser Commandos, Cruiser Commandos also was one of the biggest hits on Max.
01:10:15
Speaker
Like the fact that he's getting people to watch these projects. Yeah. Especially a project. you could give literally one fuck about the creature. Like, yeah, I didn't know when they announced the lineup. I remember being like, what the fuck is this James gun?
01:10:28
Speaker
Like I want, I want my care. And then I love the show and I binged it in a day. It doesn't matter what the lineup is. If it's fucking good. Yeah. Suicide squad. Again, people we could care less about. Yeah. The suicide squad. Like, okay. You get knockoff dead shot.
01:10:42
Speaker
And then he was so good. Yeah. He was the man. It just, it was blood sport. That's his name. Blood sport. Yeah. Margot Robbie is hard to explain. Peacemaker that is the fucking D tier random guy. And it's awesome. He's got his own TV show that everybody also loves. Vigilante, one of the yeah side characters I've never even heard of. Yeah.
01:11:00
Speaker
King Shark, you bring in, make him- King Shark? Small, yeah. But like smaller than usual King Sharks you see, you know, make him walk around. It's so funny. It's hilarious. You get fucking Stallone to voice him. You get Rat Catcher.
01:11:13
Speaker
Not even the actual Rat Catcher. Rat Catcher 2. Yeah, you make up a new Rat Catcher. And you get Taika Waititi to play the dad. and you make her the fucking heart and soul of the movie and people fall in love with her. Like, just- I wonder i wonder if she's coming back.
01:11:25
Speaker
I don't know. Maybe. hope, i I pray that Margot Robbie stays as Harley Quinn. because it might be one of the best castings of all time yeah she's perfect it is funny though how calendar man and uh maxwell lord are like identical twins they are funny yeah didn't know that because remember when he's walking through the prison and calendar man is shong on oh yeah and uh what's it called the fucking the rat easel weasel weasel weasels and creatures and commandos dude they have a scene where they talk about weasel first
01:11:55
Speaker
Weasel has his own episode, like learning about Weasel. I almost cried. Really? It is really. People were really like in the comics, like what the fuck? James Gunn, why are we crying at Weasel? He's such an asshole. He can make the most like hilarious goofball character into the most heart wrenching.
01:12:12
Speaker
Rocket. It's. You got to watch Green Command. I might rewatch it. It's so good. I'll probably, I'll start it. How long the episodes? Half hour or an hour? 25 minutes. I'm all right. I'll plow through it. It might be an hour, but in my head, it's very short. I still have to watch The Bear, though, too. i still I've just watched that first i haven't watched any of it.
01:12:30
Speaker
People are not very happy with it. People aren't loving this season. My dad loved it. right Most of the complaints are like, it's still incredible. It's just the same story. That's what I'm saying. it's it is I feel like it it's running low. i think i think this last season I think this season might be the last season. No, they renewed it. That's what I'm saying. I was like, no, they renewed it.
01:12:48
Speaker
um But yeah, that's the fan questions, and we really want to attain it for that last part. Actually pushed us over an hour and 10 minutes. Yeah. But before we go, we' want to give a recommendation of the week. Ryan, what is your recommendation? Comic book.
01:13:00
Speaker
Comic book movie. Okay. Very different. V for Vendetta. Do you like V for Vendetta? It was good movie. Didn't you watch for like the first time last year? Yeah. That shootout at the end. It's pretty fucking cool. Top tier scenes comic books. Yeah.
01:13:14
Speaker
Now it's my turn. Yeah. You teased this in the very beginning. What is it? The Batman Superman movie. World's finest. 1997. It's all Max.
01:13:25
Speaker
I'm telling you, there's a scene. Because Batman the Animus Ears, there's this club that they go to and the girls are in like cages doing seductive. I almost just did the dance. yeah Girls are doing like seductive dances in the cages. um Tom, take your clothes off.
01:13:39
Speaker
But Ryan, no joke. It's like lights flat and these girls are doing like seductive dances. in kate It's supposed to be a strip club. yeah Whatever the club is. But him and Superman, like that's when they meet. And it is one of the greatest scenes in like comic book.
01:13:55
Speaker
Because it's how I imagine Batman and him meeting. It makes much more sense. Well, Batman, Superman's interrogating someone in Gotham. Oh, no. I think they're Metropolis and Batman shows up Superman's like, you're not welcomed here or whatever.
01:14:08
Speaker
Then Bruce Wayne tries to put the moves on Lois. Does he? Mm-hmm. you have sock in the jaw or what? Oh, no. Dude, I'm telling you. What is this movie? Wait, is it this one?
01:14:21
Speaker
Mark Hamill. Is it? Yeah, Joker. Sweet. Kevin Carmel is Batman. I don't know who voices Superman. Should tell me before I end this. ah Tim Daly?
01:14:34
Speaker
