00:00:30
Speaker
Good evening and welcome back to our loyal listeners. This is pixels and pints. This is season five, episode nine. I can quickly read the run shirts while I make this up. Run shirts? Good English Tom shirts. Anyway, so it is a crisp Wednesday evening for all our fans out there.
Hosts Pete and Dan Outline the Episode's Agenda
00:00:49
Speaker
Tonight I'm joined by Pete. Howdy. And Dan. Hey.
00:00:54
Speaker
And you know what we're gonna do? Same old shit. We're gonna drink some beers, we're gonna talk about a whole bunch of stuff. Movies, games, TV shows, anything we can think of. And that's you sorted for the next six hours of your life. That's right, it's gonna be a big one! It's not, I'm just leading you in.
00:01:15
Speaker
It might be six hours if they, yeah, if they back to back listening to the audio on Spotify and then go straight to the YouTube video, then I guess maybe six hours. Speaking of which,
Subscription Encouragement and Platform Updates
00:01:25
Speaker
um, if, if anyone's not, who's not subscribed, but wants to watch the episodes, one, fucking subscribe to we're up to date again. So I think there's been fun. Well done, Peter. Round of applause for Peter. We does all the hard work behind the yards. Well done.
00:01:39
Speaker
Does all the hard work. I literally just turned up. He was just giving me shit about sending him my, sending him the show notes in the, uh, in our chat because I can't be asked putting it in the fucking document myself. Yeah. And this is the only reason I don't, the only reason I don't is in my defense, the link is lack of IT skills. Yeah. All that too.
00:01:59
Speaker
But the link is on my home PC and I don't log into it and very often and I don't think of it until we're here doing it.
Exploring the Multimedia Run Sheet
00:02:10
Speaker
So. So, so, um, so I've produced a visual feast in our run sheet. It's a multimedia experience. There's Excel tables. There's an image file that I wanted to discuss.
00:02:22
Speaker
Yeah, right at the bottom. And then Dan's contribution is to send a message in WhatsApp with no context saying four show notes, blood red sky and doom eternal. Wow, there is an Excel table. Oh yeah, there is too. This was your in-depth research that you were looking at. I'm looking forward to getting to that later on and breaking this down.
00:02:50
Speaker
Well, I thought, you know, we needed some information, so we are going to be covering all the normal stuff. So we've got news coming up. We've got a couple of trailers. There haven't been many trailers that I picked up this particular cycle. There's some, we'll do a mini review of, like I'll do a mini review of Miss Marvel. I don't know if anyone else is watching it and Stranger Things.
00:03:13
Speaker
I'm up to date on Stranger Things, and I'm three seasons into The Boys, and I'm shuttering every fucking episode. Fucking love The Boys, man. I went back and re-watched the first three seasons. That's so bad sometimes. So fucked. I know. Yeah, it is fucked, yeah.
James Cameron: A Directorial Review
00:03:29
Speaker
But we're gonna, our major topic for this podcast episode is gonna be a directorial review of James Cameron. Just continuing from the last one we did, which we got actually quite a lot of positive feedback on, so. Fucking hell. Okay, we'll cover this when we get to it. I just read something in that that I did not know, so we'll cover that when we get to it. Does it start with dark? No, I knew that one. Okay.
Beer Tasting: Slow Lane Brewing's Monument
00:03:56
Speaker
Well, I'm just a decent segue into first beers. I'm going to go first because I said the word dark and I'm trying a dark sour for my first beer tonight. Ooh. And it's it's like I don't want to say surprisingly good because it sounds like I'm taking a shot at the at Slow Lane Brewing, which I'm not. So this is Slow Lane Brewing's monument, a barrel aged black sour. Is the alt beer you've got there alt beer as well?
00:04:27
Speaker
Uh, yes. Yeah. Okay. Cause I was, I'm like, I'm trying to work out who's, who does a fucking alt beer and then now you've said slow low and it's definitely slow low. Yeah. Yeah, it is. So slow. So I'm, I'll be doing the, the alt beer next. Um, I also noticed that Hop Nation are doing a 440 mil or a 400 mil can run of some old world styles. So they've got an old world Pilsner, which I've got. The Ratenhund. The Ratenhund. Yes, that's it. The Ratenhund.
00:04:56
Speaker
And they did a doppelbock release at the same time, so I picked up both of those, but I will save those for the next. Yeah, all the new specialties are coming in the 440s. Good. Yeah. So this particular beer was released May 2021.
00:05:12
Speaker
So it's not a newbie. I'm just reading it on the back, but it's best before May 24. Malt, shit, it's got a lot of stuff in it. So Vienna dark wheat. Maybe, maybe, maybe don't say malt and shit, but yeah. Vienna dark wheat, Munich, rye, carafe special. It's got some flaked wheat.
00:05:34
Speaker
Hops are Styrian Golding and SARS and they've used a Belgian Saison and Bretonomisis yeast with Pediococcus as the souring agent. So, as a barrel aged black sour, I wasn't really sure what to expect as to whether or not it was just going to be like a dark cherry based sour that's been aged in bourbon barrels and given that complexity but
00:05:59
Speaker
It's not, it's a proper black sour in that it is very malt forward, it's a dark sour. You definitely get some of that Saison Farmhousey kind of twang to it. It's pleasantly sour, but you get a full bodied malt backbone through it. So, it's almost like drinking a light dark beer, if that makes sense, like a thinner dark beer with a bit of sourness to it.
00:06:28
Speaker
and very chocolatey chocolate coffee on the nose and quite a lot of breath. So as a starter for the night, it's fucking fantastic. Can you just read to me what that what you said that souring was? The souring bacteria was pedicoccus. How do you spell it? P-E-D-I-O-C-O-C-C-U-S.
00:07:18
Speaker
Okay. Thanks. Okay. No worries. Okay. No worries. That makes sense.
