Introduction and Casual Setup

And welcome back. We are back for another episode. Another episode of fun hilarity news and everything else we can fit in there. We're going to have some beers too. We're going to do everything at super speed because I have to fly tomorrow. um No, we're going to talk at normal pace. It is a lovely Tuesday evening. So I've had a few beers already. um As you may or may not be able to tell, with me as always on this fine episode is Dan. On mute. Hi. And we have Pete. Hi. There are several pets in the background, there are several beers in front of us, and we're going to do the usual shenanigans. We're going to talk some video games, we're going to talk some movies. um I think we might slide in some very recent news about some some sort of Kryptonian Superman, if you wanted to call him that. Dan's going to give us an 80 minute breakdown of his costume, if we're lucky.
00:01:21
Speaker
um and Unfortunately I'm so far behind on editing that who knows when this breaking news will actually be watched. Who knows when this breaking news will come out, but yes. ah we're We're sneaking one in. I'm about to go on holidays for a couple of weeks, so we thought, fuck it. I've got to be up at 5am for a flight. Let's squeeze an episode with four beers in it before I need to get up with that. um So I say let's kick off with some beers. It's cheaper than going drunk on the flight. It is cheaper than airport beers but I will be having that Heineken at 8am because as is tradition or as what's his name would say as it was written.
00:01:59
Speaker
Dan, what have you got? Well, I, I did a massive fail for the first podcast that we've recorded in like four weeks or five weeks or something like that. and put a non out No, no, didn't, didn't, didn't buy any beers at all. Just got home and realized that, uh, I didn't, uh, I didn't get anything. So luckily Blair, my friend Blair, I went and saw him last week and he, uh, gave me a four pack of, gave me five or six actually, uh, of. ah New England's beers. So I'm going to go and they're all different. And I'm quite excited to get to ah two of them later on. So um this is their West Coast IPA CH 40, Channel 40. Blair does all the artwork for them. ah New England is... One of the great stories.

Where are they? The orange?

Beer Reviews and Craft Brewing Discussion

00:02:53
Speaker
Armidale? Armidale. There were two very different conversations. I was going to say I love orange on a black and white, almost ah a blue steel can. Oh, we'll see. Yeah. So this is the, it's got a like a monotone background and then the the copper ah copper within the the channel to make the channel fucking hell. We're really recording. Should we have not got our words out before we started to record? The old wireless, you say? Contacting the boys on the front. The fucking screen on the CB radio. Goddamn, it took me a while to get there. ah to To indicate that this bodes well. Oh, fuck yeah. Great times. What's the ABV? It's got, I think it was 7.7, 90 IBUs. It's got a good solid bitterness to it, but I wouldn't say it was 90 IBUs.
00:03:46
Speaker
It's got Galaxy Centennial and Simco in it. It's really good. I think it's the kind of West Coast IPA I like, the big bitter. It's not too caramelly. It hasn't got too much crystal malt in there. It's just nice and clean and got some caramell malts in there, but not a huge amount. So lighter in color. Yeah. Tasty, tasty stuff. I quite like it. Let's say... Four and a quarter for that one. I was having a New England beer on the walk with Jasper earlier.
00:04:22
Speaker
Got a four-pack of the Grandad Brown. that's the one right piece That's the one I'm looking forward to getting to later. Oh, it's so good. I smashed through that four-pack. I've got the in the indication i got the farmhouse next ah and the Grandad Brown I'll have afterwards. I might only do three because I ah haven't had consecutive beers in about five or six weeks. ah We'll see how this goes. Who's up? Peter. Um, okay. I'm having small gods. Hexenhaus. It is a 5.4% Rogan beer. Um, where'd you get that from? Uh, I think just, I think beer cartel. Really? Okay. Yeah. yeah
00:05:09
Speaker
I didn't know I've actually I've got a small God's vehicle later too. it's It's fucking I mean, look at that. It's almost a almost ah somewhere between a red IPA and a and brown ale. um It's chewy. It's caramely. Lots of good brown malt through it. I've just been drinking a bourbon barrel aged Strong. ale So it's, that's almost vinegary in, not in a bad way. I know that sounds terrible, but it's such a good contrast. This is fantastic. Um, like I said, it's almost chewy in its, in its flavor. It's, it's very caramel. Um, I'm going to have to give that a four and a half. That is impressive.
00:05:58
Speaker
good yeah good I've never had a Rogen beer before, I don't know what the style is all about. I know nothing. Traditional German style ale is brewed with a base of Vienna malt, supported by three different varieties of rye to provide a rich and complex malt profile, featuring flavors of dark brown bread, white toffee and black pepper. This is supported by Hello2, tradition hops to provide a grassy hop character and supporting business. Result is a smooth and drinkable rye ale, which abounds with chewy malt character and subtle spice. Fucking nailed it.
00:06:35
Speaker
Good old batch used to do the dustrog. Dustrog! And we would scream it in the brewery. Dustrog! But they added a bit, Reb had always had a bit of smoke malt, just for me. So it was a smokey, smokey rug. And it was a smokey rug. What is it about? If you would give you the smokey log. and see What is it about German words that just Aussies just love? There's just something about them that just rolls off the Hexenhaus. It's quite getting to ra list it's because we is especially asking wolfens don ram ramstein as well ramstein mas yeah awesome that's a very guttural language and we're fairly guttural people
00:07:23
Speaker
slang is very guttural as well, how we pronounce things. True. Thomas. Hello. I am having, and this comes with sad news, and we will we we will will launch into it. We might as well just rip the band-aid off. Unfortunately, we found out today that Deeds Brewing have have closed business, which is a massive blow to me. I've been a big fan of Deeds for years. um So it's very sad. I picked this beer. This was the last four beers in my fridge before I go away. I was like, I've got to save four beers for the recording. um So I picked this up from Beer Cartel.
00:07:58
Speaker
Purely because of this was a label by ah this is no spoilers. It is it's the blow box. Nice. Lovely little extra special bit of spoilers. Yes, there is there is a lot of TARDIS references. um But yes, this is very sad news that the deeds couldn't come out of their their voluntary administration have decided to close up shops. I would pour one out for them for all all the beers they've had over the years. um Some of my favorites of theirs have been the Horseman series, those those Imperial Stouts that are literally liquid chocolate in a can. They've been amazing. um so They were also one of the really one of the first pioneers in Australia to bring a a juicy beer into their mainstream core with the juice train.
00:08:47
Speaker
That was that was hitting bars and especially in New South Wales and bars long before your mountain cultures were hitting it, long before any other breweries were really hitting it. So they they really hit the forefront of that. So yes. Deeds, well done. A fantastic 12 years. It's really sad to see you go.

Transition to News and Controversies

00:09:03
Speaker
It is. And most importantly, we just hope everyone who works with them lands on their feet. Like, that's the most important thing, especially and in the current climate. um But this beer is, look, it's a delicious multi-bitter. It is coming through. Oh, spilling beer everywhere. It's a beautiful, rich amber. um I did have a very nice head on it before, which is so dissipated.
00:09:28
Speaker
ah It's been sitting there for a little bit. um It's true to style. it's it's It's a fantastic, fantastic iteration of an extra special bidder. It's getting me, yeah I'm giving it a four and a half. Yeah. Yeah. Nice. all a date it like Well done. Well done. Well done. Barely well. Yeah. it's It is sad news. It's very sad news. Let's hope not no, no, no mothers follow. I wish. Yeah. I wish the cynic in me didn't think it was just the start of. Oh, of course. Yeah. i'm I'm trying to stay positive. Yeah, I mean, yeah, yeah, just the economy does not look good right now. And the that industry in particular has been hit pretty hard. So yeah. Hmm. All right. Let's kick on with some controversial news. I would say we've gone from worst news to bad news.
00:10:20
Speaker
We interrupt this broadcast with some breaking news from the front. Well, you know, you got to dig up. go up yeah Let's start the really depressing stuff and then get into the really nasty stuff. I mean, the first one ended well. It did. It was a little commentary, commentary in the notes. I did. I like that. I like that. Tell divers to you go that's my favorite game right now. I started a shitstorm when Sony who obviously they're the first party studio distributing hell divers to because I was to a run by arrow or written by arrowhead they kind of a.
00:10:59
Speaker
they're in small, small development house, you couldn't call them indie. um But Sony decided that where they had released the game to Steam, after three months of successfully, you know, killing it really in the market and redefining a genre, um that in order to play it on Steam, you must have a PlayStation Network account. And you and you had to link your PSN to your Steam account. Yeah. And just it just stopped working for people. So, of course it would. Yeah. It's starting to shift on this. There's like 38 countries or something that you're not allowed to have a PSN account in.
00:11:37
Speaker
So those 70, I read the report, I already said 170. No, really? That you're not allowed to have a PSN, like account. me Yeah. i was So China, you cannot have a PSN account in China, for example. um Is that because it's owned by the Japanese? And probably, maybe? A total of 118 countries are unsupported. This list includes some major markets like Pakistan, Bangladesh, East European countries, almost the entirety of Africa and most Central American countries. It's probably completely fun in China and I'm just a racist piece of shit. um
00:12:13
Speaker
but Yeah, no, China's fine, apparently. Cambodia, not so much, but China's fine, so I am a racist piece. I mean, not that anyone needed any further evidence. um Yeah, so, I mean, people voted with their their feet. They were, they ended up in a position where they had to to offer this, offer refunds to people who had been playing the game on Steam for three fucking months without issue. Suddenly because of this rule change, they they were forced to offer refunds. A lot of people actually, because I'm on a couple of the
00:12:47
Speaker
It's not like me to get involved in the community for a video game, because by the time I get involved, the the yeah my fascination with the game has passed and I'm on to Sonic House, so I don't usually get involved. But I'm on a couple of the Helldivers communities, the the main one um on Discord and the Helldivers, the Super Earth podcast, which is another large group of players, bunch of dudes that I kind of stumbled into. I'll talk about later. um But they all said, you know what? Where PlayStation players, we're going to demand a refund anyway. So they were they were mixed players are playing on Steam and on PlayStation. Those guys took a knee or took the L to basically say where we're voting with our money. And even if they resolve this issue, all of their unlocks reset from scratch. They knew the risk going in that demanding a refund meant that their account got deleted. If everything got sorted out, they would have to start from scratch. They did it anyway.
00:13:45
Speaker
We went from a very, very highly rated game on Steam to within 48 hours. And I posted the stats to you guys earlier. I'll put up a YouTube version yeah ah version of the of the podcast. In 48 hours, it tanked to mostly negative from mostly positive. um And they've actually since and ended up with Sony overturning their decision. Poor old Arrowhead, it caught in the crossfire. so Yeah, the the tweets from the Arrowhead, like dave the president or the the CEO or whatever, and he was just like, please don't hurt me. Yeah. So it was power of the people and it it forced Sony to overturn the decision, but there's a bunch of PlayStation games on Steam that are still suddenly mandated to have this requirement. So they overturned this decision for held overs too, but nothing else.
00:14:37
Speaker
So what Ed shared today about Ghost of Tsushima, they've been planning to launch Ghost for a while and with the ghosts going to PC, they were then adding a PlayStation UI to your PC. So you could cross, do trophies, do save files. You could access your friends list directly. from the PC rather than having through the PSN. I think this- I'm okay with- Which I think is a different situation for the yeah audience the ghosts, what Ed was talking about compared to what this is. This is just them going, we would like some data please. Yeah, exactly. data if it was If it was a game that was launched on Steam,
00:15:18
Speaker
saying this is not a pc game this is an extension of a playstation game that you can now play on pc yeah and the value add to this is. Seamless trophies seamless gameplay but you know your save games are cross cross platform play on your pc and then when you get kicked off your pc go and play on your tv and it's completely seamless. That's enough of a value proposition, I think, to justify the PSN requirement, but to have a game that's been running without issue for three months and killing it, mind you, to suddenly add that mandate, that's just taking the piss.
00:15:54
Speaker
Yeah, I think the other thing was with the ghosts scenario um was that you could still, you didn't need a person to play the single player game on PC. It was purely for the multiplayer. Yeah, right. Okay. Yeah. So I think that's a difference than what this is, which is this then going, I think, but I think a lot of this comes from them going, Hey, we're rolling out this really cool, like cross referencing UI between cross platform UI. we're going about the wrong way of introducing it by saying you need to now do it. it's It's a, yeah. And it talks straight to us cynical motherfuckers. It's like the, the multi-billion dollar corporations just fucking us in the ass because they can. And that's exactly what it spoke to. And then yeah, they've, this is, but this is a good thing. And then they realized we did this the wrong way. Join it if you want to, if you don't, sure. Just keep playing how you're playing, like, you know. Yeah. Yeah.
00:16:51
Speaker
And I mean, the the that's that's a good way to encapsulate the next two stories, actually. You know, we we did the thing in the wrong way, even if you disagree. We could have handled it better. Yes. It's admitting your mistakes. Yeah, next ones to you. Let's roll into the next one, which is the it's kind of like the next step down in terms of the scale. There was a massive controversy that came out around Star Wars Outlaws and the way they're handling a a one particular bonus mission you get if you buy the season pass or you pre-order a version that comes with the season pass.
00:17:28
Speaker
um and so let's let's Let's get to the facts before we analyze it. So what they said was the way they said it was very confusing. They then come out and said, look, originally the way we we all read it was that the Hutt cartel weren't going to be a part of Star Wars Outlaws, despite being a major feature in artwork, trailers, in like ah you know gameplay walkthroughs, being like, yeah, you're going to go through the Hutt cartel. And then they said, hey, there's this Jabba's Gambit part of the thing that you pre-order with the season pass, you get that mission at launch. And very confusing language there to use at launch, which has led me to what I said about the Hogwarts DLC, which we'll come to later on. Ubisoft to finally after basically a long weekend of being absolutely shitted on across the internet by every man, dog and woman and child um have come out and said, no, no, no, no, no. You still get to,
00:18:26
Speaker
participate with the Hutt Cartel, they are major part of the story, the base story. This is a very minor like side mission that you will get to play if you've... Well, the way they even said that language was that you get to play at launch if you pre-order the season pass. If you pay us extra. Yeah. let's be So if you give us cash now, we give you this now. $60 extra, like $60 Australian extra. which is this Which is the same as Helldivers 2, full game.
00:18:57
Speaker
I mean, look, and we, we talked about this because this is a couple of weeks old, this news. Yeah. My opinion remains that a pre-order bonus is not a new idea, right? So I go all the way back to, I think it was Assassin's Creed 2. If you pre-order the game, you got a bonus mission that had no impact on anything. Like it was just a, just another mission, right? I just, I just played it so I can, I can verify that information. There were two missions that were included in the version I played of. revelations that were DLC missions that you only got if you pre-order but in the remaster they've chucked them in.
00:19:32
Speaker
Yeah, but on I'm cool with a pre-order bonus. that's that's here iss a Here's a bit of content to encourage you to buy our game before launch day that people that buy it after launch day don't get. I'm umm okay with that. That's an exchange of value for for for money, right? But the notion that you have to pay us extra, it's not a pre-order because I can pre-order the base game right now and I won't get access to that mission. So what it is, is we're withholding content unless you pay through the

Debates on Gaming Industry Practices

00:20:03
Speaker
paywall. That's different to me. The pre-ordering the season pass, yeah that's the language they've used. your You can buy the base game and then never play the DLC missions. That's what I mean. and So I can pre-order the full game at the base price and I will not get the pre-order bonus. I have to pay extra for that, which is the season pass. Yeah. Cause they're giving you different pre-order bonuses.
00:20:28
Speaker
I feel like I'm really defending you because I'm really not trying trying to be straight. In fact, you'll hear. Yeah. I think it's the same thing as what happens with Hogwarts in that when you pre-order it on the PlayStation, you got that, um, the mannequin store mission. If you're in playing that one, Pete, that's only just released for other consoles. So I think it's kind of that thing. It's like a delayed release. You get it, which is why the user can deal with. Yeah. But I think they've just, they've really used some marketing wording the wrong way to use that marketing wording of at launch. Like that was a very specific choice to put that language in. And let's not get wrong. Ubisoft have probably fucked this up no matter which way we speak. I think it's one of those things because the way they kind of backpedaled for it was like, Oh, it's such a minor mission. Like.
00:21:17
Speaker
It's, it's just like, it it doesn't impact the main story. It's like, just why withhold the why withhold it then? Yeah. And that's, and yeah. If it's DLC that's coming later, totally understand. and I'm a hundred percent with you on that. like I'm um behind you a hundred percent on that. But, and that's the thing. It's like, if it's such a minor mission, just give it to everyone. I just, I've just, I found myself stepping back and and lamenting the good old days where you paid your 90 bucks for a game and you got the fucking game. And it was, it was, it was a functional game. It wasn't buggy as shit. It didn't need 400 bug fixes after the fact. You got all of the content that was developed for that game. It was a one-off transaction and it was a simple transaction. You pay money, I give you game. These days, that just doesn't happen anymore. It's like you have to give me extra money to get the bit that I already finished before release day.
00:22:10
Speaker
Like as far as I'm concerned everything that you wrote for a game before day one should be released on day one to all people that paid for the game. or Yes and no in the sense that I get what you're saying and coming from it in terms of if you've developed it, if you've gone ahead and create, because you can write something for a game that you just like, Oh, we're going to show that for now. It's too complicated. We've got enough going on. Sure. But yeah, if like what you're saying, if you're, if you've gone to the problem of coding it and putting graphics in and putting soundtracks to it. What am I paying you extra for? I'm not paying for R and D dollars. I'm not paying for on, on, you know, ongoing staff to be paid to develop extra material.
00:22:51
Speaker
Yeah. that that The cost of the investments already sunk. So why don't I get access to that content? 100%. It shouldn't be tied to a season pass. That kind of mission should be- A season pass is a flawed as a concept in the first place. Well, yeah. We come to that later in some later news. Well, that's my question that I have too. have they have that I don't care because I'm not playing it and I was pissed off at this, so I stopped booking even more. um Have they laid out a road map for what this season pass is going to entail or they just going, hey, pay us an extra X amount of dollars for this. Two parts. Yeah, I don't think they've had a ah proper road map. I think the idea is that there will be two similar to what Witcher had and there will be two expansions. there' two Two parts they're going to add to it later on.
00:23:43
Speaker
From what I've seen, it's a similar kind of thing of like, yeah I think like I ah doubt they'll be as in-depth as the Witcher expansion. And that's it. So, so, I mean, Witcher 3 is a good example of how to do it right, because that content earned its extra cost on its own merits. And it didn't require you to have faith in the company, which I think most of us these days, a lot of and an aging gaming population is getting more and more cynical to these tricks where They're asking you to buy into a long-term roadmap without having any proof that they're ever going to deliver anything of value. Right? So they they ride the hype train and that's it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, well, we yeah, we've been burnt by not just even, but companies so many companies, even smaller ones like Star Citizen is the classic example. of It's not a small company, but yeah. Well, yeah, but you know, like compared to some of the other ones. What about the poor bastards that may have splashed out for Suicide Squad?
00:24:39
Speaker
the the full season passed there. Like they've just released season one. And the bank, oh yeah the river of diarrhea has not ended yet. yeah And that, that game's all but disappeared now. Like that, they promised 12, 12 seasons to this. Like how many people got super excited for it with what they had shown and are now completely an absolute burnt with one about bad game, yeah or I should say a lackluster game, and for potential content. No, no, you call it a bad game because Warner Brothers are calling it a bad game. Yeah, they are, right? yeah yeah yeah I mean, it's one of those things of like, it's kind of apples and oranges in this sense. And like, I'm not saying Outlaws looks that much better than and what it's going to deliver in terms of Suicide Squad.
00:25:26
Speaker
But if you didn't see Suicide Squad coming as being a bad game from the outset, like, you're a bit blind. Like, yeah if that one snuck up on you, you won't watch maybe maybe check yourself. Like, yeah yeah. I'm sure there was people out there that just got caught up in like- Oh, they'd be d d d DC fanboys, 100%. They would be like, I'm ready for it. Like, I love Suicide Squad, my favorite comic, let's go. Yeah. So that was news item number two. but and if not even That was 1.1.2. We're going to gingerly touch on the third one. So there's been some some controversy around Warhammer 40K as well, where
00:26:07
Speaker
I was at work when you guys were talking about this, so I really breezed over the whole thing, and I think I got the concept of it. Yeah, and i've been I've been following it loosely, right? I haven't been i haven't in june launched myself into the deep end on this, but yeah the the long and short of it is, in preparation for a potential ah won What? Yeah, sorry. I've been in meetings all day so you can play the wank word with me. um The synergist, no. I think i think they ah think the short version is, um in preparation for Stephen, ah for Cavill's Warhammer 40k Amazon series, they're vocifying the Warhammer 40k universe. And I
00:26:58
Speaker
I want to be careful about the way I put this because I actually have a fairly loose opinion around the topic. In short, there have always been some armies in the Warhammer 40k tabletop game that have been all male. They've always been armies that are all female. They've been armies that are mixed gender. There's always been mixed race um armies as well. The Imperial Guard, there's been African-American and Asian models for as long as I can remember so going back to my childhood right so it's you could never have leveled the accusation at the game that it didn't already have a level of inq inclusionism.
00:27:35
Speaker
Now, in 2024, could you could you reasonably have an opinion that, well, having some armies that are male only is not kind of on trend today? Yeah, you could probably. I mean, I don't know that I would agree with that argument, but I would understand it. But the way that they've dealt with the Custodes, so the Custodes is an army that's relatively new. It was it was invented after I left the the game five, six years ago. um They were all male and someone or a bunch of people in the, I believe the LGBTQIA plus community leveled an accusation that it was completely sexist. There was no women models. There was no female models in it.
00:28:18
Speaker
And so instead of addressing that head on, and there's a couple of ways they could have addressed it, they could have addressed it by saying, well, hang on. The Adeptus of Stata since 1978 or nine, whenever they invented it, have not reproduced sexually. It's been an all-male army and and, you know, this is the backstory behind it and we're sticking with our guns, so or they could have said, Yeah, you're right. You know, in in today's age, we should probably update the game. We'll start bringing out some female characters. What instead they did was handle it the only wrong way, which is to say.
00:28:50
Speaker
No, there's always been chicks in the army. We just haven't released the models yet. You can't retcon the fucking history of an army that had a reason to be all male without even acknowledging that maybe it was time to update the backstory. Come up with a cool reason to change it. But what they actually did was say, no, you guys have misread what we wrote. There's always been mixed genders in our army. No, there was a little showing in the appendices. You guys didn't read the whole appendices. And so obviously the communities hit back and said, well, here's the text where it literally says it's mails only and there's a law based reason for it being male only. And they, as far as I understand too, there's people that have taken screenshots. I know all these things can be doctored.
00:29:35
Speaker
I don't know enough about it as well. ah that the I've got the original white dwarfs with some of this content in it. in yeah so they've They changed their description of the Custodes on their website. ah People took a screenshot beforehand saying this male army or something. so and They've done yeah deleted all of that and just said warriors and people go, no. like We just updated the Wikipedia article. dick Yeah, exactly. and i agree ah you get you you finished no you finish your thoughts No, I've made my, i've i've I've expressed my opinion, so over to you. And i yeah I completely agree with what you said. it they That would have been such a better way to do it. And yeah they could have made this massive thing out of it, like they could have made
00:30:22
Speaker
something fucking cool. I was talking to Louise about this the other day because I was explaining to her, she probably didn't give two shits, but she listened anyway because we were stuck in a car driving somewhere and she had to be married. And I'd lock the doors and I'd turn child lock on. Postage audience, yeah. and and i'm and because Because my whole my hold knowledge base is The Witcher and they have the same similar thing. And yeah with the troll grasses. Yeah. Yeah. And it's I was saying to it that they could have made such a thing about it if they just said, oh, look, we've this within game world, we've discovered this way to make females part of this army from here on.
00:31:03
Speaker
and introduce this incredible general and the personal army. a really cool female warrior class if people wanted it. The right way to go around it. But here's here's here's my rub with it, right? And and like like I said at the start, I don't have a strong opinion on the subject. I'm pretty um i'm pretty okay to be swayed. but The, the, the adept of sororities, although the sisters of battle has been an all women army for 15 years before the progressive left kind of started challenging the dynamic. And I'm not, so you know, I'm not expressing an opinion there either, but they were early adopters of an all female army. The older have always been predominantly feminine models. They're very,
00:31:53
Speaker
They're very, you know, and I don't want to get into the stereotypes about body shapes here, but they have always been very feminine and the models have always been very obviously female for the most part. It's probably a 70-30 mix between males and females in terms of body shape. ah The Imperial Guard have always included female models in their armies as far back as I can remember. I'm pretty sure. The Adeptus Estatus, it's, the so the Space Marines, Do not have sex to reproduce. The Apothecaries have always been a part of the ethos where the Apothecaries draw the gene seed or the genetic code out of dead warriors in order to create new warriors. That's that's part of their reproductive process. And so better or worse, there are no women in the Space Marines because they don't need two genders to reproduce anymore. So you've got all women armies, you've got all male armies.
00:32:48
Speaker
there's There's been a justification and there's been a balance. like if you If you want to play a female Space Marines army, then I guess you've got an argument to say, well, this is not inclusive because i'm ah I want to play a female Space Marine army. That's a fair argument. I've got no issue with that argument. But retconning history and denying it. like that's a bad way That's not the way to deal with, you know, and you can make an argument that it's it's a reflection of some of the other topics that have come up in real life. the Denying history is not a good way of of moving forward. You can't just you can't just wash away the bad shit because it's not in vogue. It's part of the story that got us to where we are. And I think, yeah. I guess the other thing is just like.
00:33:34
Speaker
If you wanted to play an army of female space Marines who actually is fucking going to stop you. Yeah. Yeah.

Discussion on Superman Suit and DC Universe

00:33:42
Speaker
Like 3d printers, Stewart, 3d printers are going to stop us. And the already is the, the, the, the Warhammer community.
00:33:54
Speaker
The tabletop community have always been on the fringe of society to start with, right? These guys, even the cool nerds beat up the fucking Warhammer nerds. The guys that went in- Oh, absolutely. Guys and girls. I just went in with a 3D printed sledgehammer and just started going. But the people that sit in the Citadel stores and paint miniatures, guys and girls are always on the fringe of society and teased by literally, well, pretty much everyone. Right. As we were growing. I know. I've always held them pretty hard. It's always been inclusive in its i exclusion. I could not paint those things to save my life the way those people do. But my point is, some of those paint jobs are fucking amazing. Oh yeah. A hundred percent. I wasn't taking the piss out of the the work. I know you learned. I'm just saying, let's give some credit where credit's due. But yeah, I mean, it's always been inclusively exclusive. Inclusively exclusive. Yeah. I don't care what gender you are. You're a Warhammer nerd. Fuck off. Yeah. So anyway.
00:34:50
Speaker
so that's that that's a really bad way of dealing with modernizing yeah Yeah, don't just go back and say, and that's the thing, because you're just lying to your fans anyway. It's tokenism. It's absolute tokenism. It's not. Yeah, it's not. It's not doing it for the right reason. It's not doing it for the wrong reason. It's doing it for the bad reasons. It's just doing it because you've been pressured to do it. It's not doing it because it's a good idea to do it. The ethos. So The action, that's that. That's the inaction a without inaction really bad way of dealing with modernizing. kind of. And I've never seen a single soul complain that there is an all-female
00:35:25
Speaker
Army once. And the sisters of battle are not only badass, but if you look at the global statistics of wins in tournaments, sisters of battle wipe space Marines, like wipe their asses. They are a better army. They have been for like a decade. Not one soul has complained. Oh, I'm a guy and I don't feel included in the, but I want to play as sisters of battle and there's no male models. I just, yeah It's crazy. Crazy. Not a good way to deal with modernizing your game. And it's a game that's dying. That's wizard Wizards of the Coast? No. Yeah. No, no. Council Workshop. Yeah, consider Citadel own Games Workshop. Yeah. Yeah. You guys talk about the next topic. I'm just going to go. Okay. I think me and Tom have talked out about this enough today.
00:36:21
Speaker
Yeah, I noticed my phone blowing up while I was in meetings. Yeah. I was very, very bored running into my last day of work. I'll be right back. Dave, just James Gunn's new DC Extended Universe. I don't know. They haven't named it yet, but to James Gunn's new DC Comics ah universe. They've released the picture of the new Superman costume. I Kaval-esque with all its ah coloring and texture and bits and pieces. It's new 52 esque with the ah pointless, ugly collar and ah gauntlets on its, on its hand. It's the, you know what the color reminds me of? It reminds me of the like semi-formal wear or the knobs wear in Lord of the Rings. When Legolas walks into the room, when Frodo's recovering after Mount Doom, and he's got that high colored
00:37:34
Speaker
What's that? yeah Because it's meant to make him look more alien, I think. Yeah, potentially. Because he ol the elves are meant to be alien to humans in in terms of Lord of the Rings. I always draw that conclusion. Yeah. And I'm a freak. And this, the, the collar on this is slightly different to the new 52. It doesn't have the red trim. That doesn't have the little gap in the front. It is literally just a, the Adam's apple, Adam's apple hole. Yeah. It's yeah. It's literally just eternally. I i mean, I really like want to matter in color. Really? yes yeah Okay. There you go. Um, I liked Cavill's slightly,
00:38:14
Speaker
Slightly lower. It's a reference to China, not. Clementine collar. Sorry, Dan. Cavill slightly lower cut collar. I thought that looked really good on the suit. It didn't look restrictive at all. It looks like it would be something that a person could fight and move in. This really tight high collar and the gauntlet. I thought the costume looked really, and granted he was folded over kind of putting his boots on, but it looks loose. Yeah, it does. It looks very loose around the shoulders. They'll they'll have to do something about that in post because you can see one of the I've got it up on my other screen. So I'm looking at it quite that he's also blown it up to 1000 times. and He's going through every single pixel. yeah I did earlier. Yeah. um The shoulder pad that kind of sits on the deltoid
00:39:07
Speaker
But on the front of it doesn't kind of go up to the collarbone. As he's reaching forward, its the ah padding there has popped a little bit. So it's about a centimeter or so above his actual shoulder. He's got an eight inch power suit on. Yeah, but it's the it's the opposite because it's on the the front of his arm, not on the not on the actual shoulder part. So it looks a bit odd. And the other side, you can actually see it too, but it's in a bit of shadow. They'll definitely fix that in like in post. They'll smooth all those wrinkles out like they did with the Spider-Man suit. I think it looks great. Yeah. Outside of that. The red boots are cool. They do look cool the boots. the The picture I've got up is actually, you can see all the way to the soles of the boots and they look fucking good. Like they look really, really cool. It's got red trunks. You can see if you zoom in and Tom brighten it up a little bit so you can see the red red so outside trunks. Thomas is trying to see his super penis. And the and the yellow belt.
00:40:04
Speaker
ah I don't like the S. I don't like the, um, but that's, it's kind of like, it's the kingdom comments, isn't it? I like the very reckon hell have it on the, on the Cape in, you know, that photo you, the image you share from the comics, the like return to form. you Well, the kingdom comes. Cattle didn't have the cattle didn't have no like was the last time one of them had it. I think Brandon Ruth had it. I think Brandon Ralph had it. Yeah, maybe. What was the question? When was the last time Super had the S on the cape? No, he didn't. No, Brandon Ruth did not. He had the real leather cape, didn't he? Yeah. Real dark leather red. I liked that Superman. He was good in that movie. Yeah, because he was in Martin Place catching cars like a hero.
00:40:51
Speaker
So the um the S on this suit if they stay with the Kingdom Come S should be black, black on red on the back because that's the that's the kingdom. But isn't oh but isn't the suit the suits meant isn't that meant to be the Superman legacy comic or doesn't that have the kind of Kingdom Come S in it? yeah I know you're saying it was just legacy. are that wrong um right I know whether it does. I like the colours. I think it's really battle damaged this one. So he's been ah he's been in a fight and this looks like just before. But yeah you look at the you look at the boots, ah the blue above the boots and it's a slightly brighter blue. um And it doesn't have that metallic sheen that Cavill had on his. So I like the the the kind of ma more matte look to it.
00:41:34
Speaker
I was trying to think of what the cape reminded me of, the way the cape pops out and back over the shoulders. There was a, I couldn't think, there was a costume that one of the other heroes had in, I think a Marvel. Probably Martian Manhunter. No, want it was definitely in an MCU film that someone's. Vision. I remember just the way that it looked like it came, like the actual cape comes out of their collarbone. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's, i I like it, but it's, it throws me off a little. It doesn't feel, Aerodynamic fluid. Yeah. yeah Just dynamic. Yeah. Yeah. Think about real world capes when they were and in fashion. It came all the way over and classed here on the breasts, on the breastbone. Yeah. I just, yeah. I just don't think it looks very good at all. No. forever And for the, all that we've ragged on it, I quite liked the picture.
00:42:24
Speaker
The overall suit looks great. I'm not sure about the... It does look like there's a bit of a semi brushed aside ah curl going on too. Yeah, but it's on the other side. The other thing I don't like is, yeah yeah, you're right. The other thing I don't like is the airbrushing on the muscles and I i hated that about um the, what was the ah stupid, what was the company that did Arrow? CW. I really didn't like the CW version of of Superman because
00:42:59
Speaker
He wasn't muscular enough and they had to airbrush on the six pack in a darker blue across the suit and same with the arms, the the biceps and the deltoids and the triceps. And you can just see a faint shadow sprayed on over the the bicep to tricep definition. you Yeah, you can see something's something a little bit odd there in the colouring of the arms. But he also looks like he's been attacked because he's got a lot of lot of he's definitely got a blast carbon through the yeah yeah through the through the S. Yeah, i'm I'm excited. I wasn't really that excited about the movie, but I think that's a great screenshot as a on purpose accidental. It's very gun-esque. Oh, it is. A hundred percent. Yeah. I'm really, I'm really, I'm really excited for whatever Bowie song Superman decides to fly. The gun playlist is just going to come out firing. It's going to be some pure country in Western coming through there.
00:43:53
Speaker
Yeah, see, I'm still like I said, I'm skeptical whether they do the whole small little thing, but I hope they don't. We'll wait and see. I hope they don't. it's It's trying to move the fuck on from his childhood. it's It's kind of like the whole you don't need to show Batman's parents dying anymore. Everyone knows that Martha and Thomas Wayne get shot. We don't need to see it in every single film. We know that Superman grows up. He's an alien and grows up in a small town. and He has really awesome parents. And yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah but don't need then he goes then he goes on his road trip. They definitely don't need to show it, but it's it's such an ingrained into the character that this is where he gets his morals from. That yes there has to be references to.
00:44:37
Speaker
the family and where he came from and how it- So do we need a couple of flashbacks? Yeah, a couple of flashbacks. We don't need the childhood shots. Yeah. We don't need the jumping through cornfields. It was cool to see, but we've seen it like four times. Yeah. Like move on. Tell us a fucking story that we want to see. Anyway. Just don't erase that part of his story. We're going to end up spending ah Yeah, agreed with you, Dan. I totally agree with you. Don't, yeah don't retcon the fucking story. Just respect it. Pay tribute to it when it's relevant.

Game Showcases and E3 Replacement

00:45:12
Speaker
But tell us a new story.
00:45:15
Speaker
It's always the same fucking story with Superman though. He grew up, now he's an adult. He's a young adult who's got to face the fucking, the world ending challenge. It's slightly personal, but not like, yeah. Somehow he ends up on a craw fishing boat in the middle of the Atlantic. We don't know why, but he's looking rugged as fuck. Get him up here. I want to both him. Let's go through the rest of the news. We really have to make up some time. I'm going to speed us along through the rest of this. We can probably actually, after the next point, we could, the next big one. Do the second beer and then, yeah. Yeah, the big one. I think we could probably actually save for a up late. That big point that I put in. Yeah. Touch on it, but I think it's an up late. I think you're right. I think you're right. Thank you very much. So June is fast approaching, which is the middle of the year, which is summer in the Northern hemisphere. It is the beginning of glorious winter for us Southern hemisphere folks. But that means in summer in the, especially in the US, that is game showcase time. So game showcases have started to drop there.
00:46:13
Speaker
the times that they're airing um and the dates. So we've got the, um yeah, I'm reading this verbatim. Summer Games Fest with old Punchy McPunchface. We're going to get a season desist. yeah said that i will i will I will fight him. I will punch him directly in the face because that's what it deserves. um Yes, Summer Games Fest with Geoff Keighley, the most punt punchable face in all of games media. um That is on June 8th at 7am Australian Eastern Standard Time. ah The other game show that is showing that day is the Future Games Show. It's also on June 8th, Australian Time. We don't have an actual airing time, but it will definitely be after the Summer Games Fest usually follows on. So that'll be at a more
00:47:00
Speaker
Decent, decent hour. I'm saying probably, ah you know, I'd say what midday midday ish by the time we're there over here. um The Xbox are having their showcase on June 10th. That is at 3 a.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time. And it is followed by Ubisoft forward later in that day. and There are also a few other games that haven't released as a PC one. um There's like an indie one. ah Nintendo haven't said if they're doing a showcase. ah We are due for a PlayStation showcase in May. We don't have a date or finalised date for that yet. The last, the one that was on last year in May, which is the big one, was May 24th. So that's, I'm assuming it'll be just before those, those game fests kind of kick off. So yeah, it's trailer time, ladies and gentlemen. So that covers E3 for 2024? Well, E3 is dead officially. So. But that's my point. yes This is what killed it. Yeah. I mean, you don't need a physical show anymore that if they're doing that. Yeah.
00:47:58
Speaker
um That's that, that's just gear, letting everyone know if you're going to wake up some early and watch some game trailers or just wake up at a normal time and watch them later on YouTube. You do you. If you want to live tweet them as they come out, ah go nuts. Or wait for Tom. Live X them. Live X them as they come. Yeah. you Or you could wait 11 weeks for the podcast episode that we talked about to come out. Yes. Um, cause we will, cause we'll about it 11 weeks later by the time this is released. Yeah. Um, I'm going to touch slightly on this one, but as I said, I think this is an up late for us. Um, so a new survey was just done by the game developer collective. This is a independent, um, collective of, of researchers basically into the games, but games industry.
00:48:40
Speaker
um They have found that 70% of the developers are worried about the sustainability of live service games. um This has been gathered from a pool of 600 developers and they've been done this over the course of two months. so the most There's a lot of facts and data if you're actually going to go read it, funnily enough, to get the actual report from the Games Developer Collective, it's behind a paywall. um the irony that's pretty good car rightly yeah but Luckily there there have been a bunch of news outlets in the in the gaming world that have like the access to that, but if that have put content out and they've shown graphs and stuff.
00:49:23
Speaker
um The most interesting thing to come out of that we will rightly touch on is that um developers who have a new unannounced game on the way ah leaning have a 9% increase to the lean towards paid DLC as a way of monetization going forward post-release as opposed, which is, yeah, it's at 30% now, it's opposed to 21%. um So that's that's a kind of interesting increase, but most the most of the fears that came around in live service games are basically retaining your player base, or the fear that a new and shinier game is going to come around and steal your player base. Better. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, yeah. Which is, of course, what you would expect. You have to earn continuity. You can't demand it. 100%.

Concerns on Live Service Games

00:50:10
Speaker
Yeah.
00:50:10
Speaker
So yeah, I think that's a much more in-depth discussion for us to to tackle into. We can go into some some of the facts and stuff and that and that could be our next update. But yeah, um if you wanted to find it, yeah, there's a bunch of game reviewing sites out there that have basically all got the same article about it because that's the information that you're able to pull straight from the report. um And it is it is interesting to read and look at the the stats and the graphs and and what I think we we will pull it apart. as Yeah, we should definitely. Yeah. yeah um Do you have PS plus? Yeah. PS Plus titles for May. Well, we missed April and it was very sad. um but We did. We recorded it. I just haven't released the episode yet. Fair enough. I don't remember things. um So it is the 7th of May. So next Tuesday, the the new titles release.
00:51:01
Speaker
Um, that you can download for free. If you have the essential essential class, the, um, EA sports FC 24. Cause we can't call it FIFA anymore. Cause they're super corrupt. Um, that is part of it. Ghost runner two. Um, absolutely. Fuck no. It is a, this is, that's the game. I don't think I've ever told you, but ghost runner one is the one that I got through halfway through the first level stopped. End of the game. deleted the game from my console and deleted it from my library. And I refuse to play the game area. It shook me to tears. and I will never go back to it. Anyway, there's a sequel for anyone who likes those. It's kind of like Mirror's Edge. Punching yourself in the nuts. yeah Literally, I would rather do that. um Tunic, ah this is actually a game I'm interested in. It's an isometric kind of old school Zelda, um but a bit of Souls vibe to it. It looks very cool. The animations are cool as well. it looks It's very good artwork.
00:51:53
Speaker
and then ah Because they're releasing the last Destiny 2 DLC, they've put one of the previous ones as part of a PS Plus theme. Don't go back to it. Don't do it. Seriously? Never go back to Destiny 2. Don't do it. It's evil and corrupt. How old is that game now? I don't know. I've, I've lost time and I lost time. It's just, it there's not enough six of September, 2017. So five, eight, eight years, three, four, seven years. Yeah. Seven years is a long time for a treadmill shooter. Yeah. Yeah. So this is, this is the the one they released. This is the DLC that releases a new subclass. Um,
00:52:40
Speaker
where you can basically web zip around ah around the maps, that's about it. Otherwise, it should shoot the same dudes and and loot loot the same things. It's amazing that people, it's like it's like playing, like those those guys, those hardcore players that play Diablo 3 and Diablo 4 to end game. It's just... There's more to life, guys. Like the dopamine hit can be satisfied through so many better games. Some people like just running that treadmill. And I'll talk about that in Are You Winning, Son? with Battlefront 1, which was 2015. Also, I just noticed I really like your jacket today, Tom. I really like yours, Pete. Oh, you both are.
00:53:19
Speaker
Repping, repping. Not repping. Not repping something that doesn't exist. yeah Watch me. Totally can. Wish us me.

Second Round of Beer Reviews

00:53:29
Speaker
Shall we do our second beers and then quickly do the trailers that we all agreed that we would stop doing, but somehow it's always in the back of the show notes. I might say it's the release calendar. It's not trailers, it's the release calendar. You liked it last episode. God, you're fickle. Anyway, what are you drinking, you fickle bitch? Who's that? Me? Yes.
00:53:55
Speaker
Okay. Um, I'm drinking on it. to fickle pitch all ah So I'm drinking bright, bright breweries. Choco Palooza. Yeah. It's a chocolate caramel stout 5.5%. It's exactly what it says it does on the can. It's, it's almost, it's, it's almost. coconutty in its flavor profile, which I know is not what it says on the can. It's it's very caramel, Werther's caramel with a chocolate base to it. Um, I don't know what malt they've used, but it's, it's clearly a chocolate malt and there's nothing useful on the can at all. Well done.
00:54:42
Speaker
Good job canning blind. It is excellent though. there's There's a little bit of dark malt in it that gives it that kind of, it's not coffee, but that acidic edge. The word that I can never fucking remember that Dan use a stringent. string Thank you. It has an astringent bitterness to it. um But that's exactly what it is. It's right on the back palate that that that acidity, that acrid acidity. um But it really does balance out the the sweetness. So you end up with a ah really good.
00:55:15
Speaker
Chocolate, long like the the back palate's really chocolate. It's a long lasting flavor, but you do get that Werther's caramel hit, like that toffee caramel kind of flavor. It's almost like a the caramel licorice. Like slightly burnt caramel kind of thing. Like, uh, yeah, but I mean, so I think caramel licorice is probably the best way to put it out. So, you know, there's no licorice in caramel licorice, ironically. Um, but that real strong caramel sweet flavor, get the chocolate and then you get the, the acidity from almost a ah ah coffee bitterness. It's really well balanced. Um, who was it again, Pete? Bright brewery. Right.
00:55:56
Speaker
oh bright or Four to five. The Halins of Victoria. Four to five. Yeah. Yeah. I'm impressed. I like it. Excellent. Tom. Oh, I've been waiting for this beer. I'm excited about it. I am drinking the Red Wizard. It's Dan in a beer, the Red Wizard. So it's from Seeker, the Red Wizard, Red IPA. It is fucking the tits. It's so good. This is one of the, I love this time of year, cause finally he brews, stop being cowards and make Red IPAs again. Except for a couple that do all round, year round Red IPAs. I'm looking at people like Yulies with the Slick Rick is year round.
00:56:40
Speaker
but Yeah, something about red IPAs. They're just they're just too afraid to be the real heroes that we need in society. um This is this is a brilliant red IPA. It's got enough of that top in this but a really nice hop kick to it. And it pours a ruby red. I don't know if it says what ah hops they use. Well, it says dark arts with noble hops. Okay, who knows? Yeah. Um, I wouldn't say it has like that noble hop character, but it's not it's not dank as some of those other red IPAs you get this time of year. I had one from Range the other day that was like,
00:57:18
Speaker
really like West Coast red. um And ah i'll I'll send you the photo I took of it. It just happened to catch a bit off the TV. And just like right down in this part of the glass, there was this like bright, like almost like there was a light inside the glass. Yeah, coming through. It was ah it looks beautiful. I'll send it to you guys. um this is Yeah, it's it's not as that like Dang copy, there is definitely a hoppiness coming through. It has a really nice punch to it. It is just a really, really beautiful, um like red toffee notes coming through. um It comes in at 5.8%. I wish my white was working a bit better. It's being a bit weird today, but yeah, the the artwork is yeah really cool. yeah But yeah, just the artwork, I wanna know who did the artwork as well. um I need to find that out because it's really, really good.
00:58:13
Speaker
If only this was a sticker that I could put on my fridge and said it's a fucking... Digital fridge. Maybe they'll have some other... That's a fucking shirt I'd wear in a heartbeat. That's a good beer shirt. I wonder if Sika have it on their website. I'll have a look. Yeah, I'm giving that a four and a half. That is delicious. That has literally made my night. Yeah, nice. That's good. I was still young. And I have another New England's, like I said, I've got the farmhouse ale, 5.5%. ah It's a cow standing on top of a farmhouse on a nice purple and my lights bit shitting here tonight
00:58:53
Speaker
That's worse. That's That's better. It's like five and a half percent. Five and a half percent. And yeah it's I'm almost done. But it's been a very enjoyable, light, saison grissette kind of beer. Like got that really nice saison yeast character to it. It's a white lemony, lemony citrus side to it. And that white pepper, but nothing overpowering, just a really well really well balanced sort of five and a half percent. I dare not use the name table beer because five and a half percent, not particularly table beer, but no ah it it's just, it's very, very sessionable. I'd be quite happy to sit down and drink multiples of those in the night. It's just not palate fatiguing, anything like that. It's just a really pleasant, nice

farmhouse, uh, says on character to it. Really beautiful actually. Uh, Oh, the, the writing on the back of this is a little bit, a little bit bigger. So I can read it. Uh, summer style says on, yep. Uh, nothing really, yeah have nothing else helpful there. No, no hop character to it. Might have some noble hops in there, but they just, just some spicy hops. Really nice. I think that's another solid four, four and a quarter. Yeah, cool. Yeah. Really kind of funny feeling that used to be part of their core range for a while, which, okay. Yeah. I think, yeah, ended up being, cause it was the blue pale can, the hop can and IPA.

Anticipation for Upcoming Movies and Series

01:00:27
Speaker
I think the farmhouse, I was actually another part of their core range and granddad Brown. When I used to buy company, I was like, this is, this is one of the best core ranges for just like being a bit out there.
01:00:40
Speaker
Um, yeah, being a bit more diverse compared to what everybody does. Yeah. I've i've got the, I've got a hop cannon in there. If I dare have a fourth beer, I'll crack that one. Also, it's a big can of, um I've seen the hops cannon in action. It's pretty fucking impressive. Yeah. Yeah. um also They're fun, but they're bastard to claim. No red. Oh, yeah. I don't care about the cleaning because I was just watching someone and literally fire hops through a beer.
01:01:16
Speaker
All right. Take us through the releases. but I'm going to rip through the e yeah this rapid fire because nothing's coming out. It's very fucking quiet. There's a lot of like wasteland. Well, it's, we're getting to that time. The, the, the writer's strike is really starting to catch up with us. There are, there is, I didn't include in this list as well. I didn't include like season drops, like season three, season two of things. I tried to keep it to new stuff. There obviously are a bunch of like seasons, like the the next season as you'll talk about that. Yeah. Um, yeah. So, uh, on the games front, very, very quiet. Um,
01:01:56
Speaker
We are recording this post-April, but seeing as we kind of missed our April recording. um The games that I only thought that we would be interested in, the only one I could see on there was that Sea of Thieves has finally dropped on PS5, if you want to go play a real pirate. We're still going to release the April recording, just so we're clear. I didn't delete the fucking files. Yeah, no, but we talked about March and that. I went back and looked at the notes. No, we talked about Sea of Thieves and about what a mess it was. It was coming out. Yeah, but now now it's out. It released like right at the tail end of April. um thats So that's come out on PS5.
01:02:31
Speaker
Um, tails and Conzera Zhao is released on multiple platforms. It's, uh, it is a Ubisoft title, but it's one of their smallest studios as part of the Ubisoft thing. It's very much in the Spain of, um, Prince of Persia, that's solid gameplay. So if you're really craving that kind of old school side scrolling, but like really quick, yeah, quick, quick side scrolling format. Um, in terms of DLC, the full outfit, full out for next gen update finally dropped. Um, and where they updated all the graphics for next year consoles. Can you just, yeah, I'll have to look into that. Cause I, I haven't played Fallout four through. I need to, I i played Fallout three platinum, yeah new Vegas back to back, burnt me the fuck out. yeah I need to go back to four.
01:03:17
Speaker
so yeah four So now they've done ah a next-gen update. and it's it's It's a graphical update, if get most things. There was some stuff about how it wouldn't work for people who download it through the PS Plus. They've actually now retconned that. So that is yeah working now. So no matter how you get it. um Also, this one's exclusively for Ed. I'm sure he's already playing it, but um Final Fantasy XVI, The Rising Tide. So the DLC for that dropped. For May, ah this is purely for um Dan. Senua Saga, Hellblade II. is releasing on PC and Xbox. So that is where you go. I'm going to work out how to hook up a PlayStation 5 controller to my PC. With the USB cable, the end. They work straight away, do they? Yes. Excellent. My dad just bought one. We've been having lots of conversations. I haven't thought I could do that with the PS3. I can, via USB cable, I can plug a PS5 controller into my PS3 and it'll work. Yeah, right.
01:04:13
Speaker
like i haven' yeah I haven't tried it, but when I get back, I'll test it. But yeah, the PS5 controller, it's a native driver, USB straight to your PC and off you go. Oh, fuck yeah. That's great. Because that's the only way. I'm only playing that. I'm not playing that keyboard and mouse. I'm only playing it with a controller. Well, it's funny because the conversation came up because Dad's been dad's been struggling with You know, because, and you know, I've i've watched ex-girlfriends go through this cycle over and over and over again. The muscle memory that requires you to have right, right stick to move left stick for camera. For us, we're natives, right? That's just second nature. For anyone who's like, that's, that's a hard learning curve if you're coming into it cold. You know, it's actually really funny about that. Cause I was eating dinner the other night while playing Assassin's Creed and I was using, I just had my one left hand. My left hand index finger, try to run around and it was like, more like my character was drunk, stumbling through the streets. yeah So my dad's been really struggling with the tutorial mission where you fight the snake bot in Horizon Zero, ah Horizon Forbidden West. yeah He's been using a controller and he can't aim for shit with the controller. Sorry, dad. I know he listens. I'm just exposing you here. um but So then he was talking about the controller and maybe he can use a gamepad controller. And then we were talking about the fact that there is motion control baked into those controllers, but I've never used motion control for finesse aiming. It's one of the things you can do with a PS5 is trying to avoid it is the the the like literal 3D movement to finesse the aim. So anyway, he bought a PS5 controller for his PC.
01:05:57
Speaker
Anyway, Carrion. Sorry. Well done. Well done. rapid Well done, Duddy Bainbridge. Um, Pete. It's really easy to remember his name. Same as mine. Same as my pops. There you go. Pete Bainbridge, the third Esquire. Oh wow. Imagine more of a wanker than you already were. In terms of DLC, there wasn't really much releasing unless you play model combat or Tekken. There are some new characters dropping. Um, that, thank God I was so waiting. There's a flock of seagulls and that's about it. Um, at the movies, uh, April, we saw some of the releases that I, I thought we were interested in monkey man. Uh, yeah. Civil wars come out. and
01:06:38
Speaker
and Boy Kills World. So they were the three in April that released, well, some of the movies that released in April. yeah um For May coming out, so The Fall Guy looks entertaining enough. It looks it looks entertaining. It's a popcorn film. Definitely a popcorn film. Just go set. Don't think too much. um New Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes releases Friday, this said that the 10th of May. Now, this one's been tripping me up. Is it Kingdom? Yeah, you've left a word out there. It's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Correct. Yeah. It's such a fucking- I was drunk when I was writing these notes. But it was written on a book cover, like they had plenty of room back then. Yeah. They've all been like that by the first one. Yeah.
01:07:28
Speaker
And then last movie that I think we'd ever, we'd really have interest in dropping this, this month is Furiosa is out towards the tail end of May, I think May 26th. And I managed to get through the first 10 seconds of the the final trailer where the kid gets kidnapped, Furiosa gets kidnapped from the forest environment and runs off into the the night desert. And then you guys finally jumped on. So I haven't seen the rest of the trailer for that. The one thing that gets me about the Furiosa marketing at the moment is, I don't know if you guys have seen, have you guys seen the bus ads for it? No, I haven't seen any of it. So there's a bus ad, well, they're going through a new town at the moment. There's a bus ad and on on the tail end of us, the Furiosa, and then on the front of it is Hemsworth's character, the, whatever he is, Big Nose, um Big Bird. Let's call him Big Bird from now on. Big Bird. ah But it really looks like Furiosa is wearing Max's jacket.
01:08:23
Speaker
Oh, I hope. It could be, it could be a really bad framed the way they framed it and she could be wearing any old leather jacket, but it damn well looks like Maxis. No, you kind of see it in, even in the first trailer, there was a cut now that you say it. Yeah. I do. I hope it's not Maxis jacket because. I mean, it's a pretty common style leather jacket, but still it looked, it was like, I looked at, I saw it on the bus go past the other day, I was like, It's fucking Max Rock Stanky's jacket. How's he got Max Rock Stanky's jacket? They've ah they've Star Wars'ed it as well because it's Furiosa, a Mad Max story.
01:09:00
Speaker
no They couldn't just leave it as Furiosa. They had to let the rest of it. Just in case you didn't know what it was about. Just in case. Does that mean we'll get Woody Harrelson rocking up at some point with a blaster? Because I'm not a mumble for that.
01:09:19
Speaker
yeah was And then yeah ah lastly, streaming. So we'll talk about this later. Obviously, Fallout is out on Prime in April. um If you're missing the Sandman, Dead Boy Detectives is a new story set in the Sandman universe. Oh, is it? I didn't know that. That's dropped on Netflix. okay um And if you enjoyed the Sonic films as much as I have, the Knuckles series is out on Paramount Plus ah with Idris Elba playing Knuckles. Any good? I really enjoyed the the first Sonic though. I've got to watch the second. No, I've seen the two movies. I just, yeah ah have you seen that? I think Sui was talking about the Knuckles series and how much he enjoyed it in chat. But yeah, um in May, so this Friday, the new series of Dr. Who is out on Disney Plus. I'm having my my tattoo laser. That's it's just, it's getting really good reviews across the board actually, before you before you start making drastic conclusions, but yeah. That is absolutely not what I've seen.
01:10:17
Speaker
Not in the fucking slightest. I've seen eights and nines coming out for that one, but hey, you know, we'll find it. I'm watching it. We'll see when we watch it. And then Dark Matter's out on Apple Plus. Yeah, I saw that. I thought this one might interest you. Yeah. Well, it didn't catch me in the trailer, but it piqued my interest because of the title, because I've already seen a TV series called Dark Matter, which was kind of B grade sci-fi from 10 years ago. This is definitely sci-fi, yeah. this is um
01:10:48
Speaker
Yeah it's a guy that's actually wakes up in a parallel universe yeah i saw the trailer and it didn't really grab me that much the dark matter tv series with a was a proper be great like a when i say proper sci-fi i mean like yeah alien world community sci-fi. um and This is more like parallel parallel universe. Yeah. Well, everyone's cashing in on quantum theory at the moment. That's that' the theme of sci-fi lately. That was the other constellation. The other Apple TV. And then lastly, I did throw in a trailer. I did throw one. I don't know if you saw this. but there's any
01:11:27
Speaker
It's a new, there's a new Rocksteady Batman game coming up. That's fucking VR. Don't bother. Yeah, it's, it's Quest. It's Quest 3 only. It's Metacrest. It's Metacrest. Yeah, fuck them. As soon as I heard that, I hit, stop. Fuck, I don't want to watch this shit. It shows you nothing. Yeah. It's a CG. It's a pre-rendered trailer. It's not even a VR trailer. So it's just, yeah. Cashing on the arkham name way way to know the more the reason i put in there is to talk about where the fuck to fucking basis indigo and finally rock said you come to the senses and release another man a quest three what.
01:12:04
Speaker
Yeah. I wonder if Steam, yeah I wonder if Steam has a, ah the because it counts players and things like that. I wonder if it has a number of Mediquest users on Steam. It probably does. um probably does probably It does. That'll be real interesting when that drops to see it in like 20.
01:12:24
Speaker
One of it has amount of Mediquest players playing currently and amount of Mediquest players throwing up for vertigo. I think on that note of throwing up, we're going to take a break. ah that then ten then it then then and and and and hey and then then then then and then then and and and and hey hit the third and and and then then and then and hey We're back. one One thing we didn't talk about in this ah James Gunn Superman picture is DC always gets... ah his Superman's bull sack is showing. I don't, for one, can't stand it. Too big. The the the bad habit of DC and their ah blue light in the sky trope that they do for so many of their fucking movies. This one literally is purple light in the sky. yeah yeah yeah Purple sky beam. It's like, ah, come on.
01:13:20
Speaker
There is something big happening in the background. I like the Ben Ben asked us if we knew what was going on. It's like, no, Ben, we've all got the same image. None of us have a fucking clue what's going on. This isn't some secret information that's been lent out. It's literally just a hardcore fanboys only. I do hope it's, it's too glowy. I mean, it is Brainiac kind of colours. I'll be very disappointed if that's the ship because your ship should be more technological rather than ah just a purple testicle. Yeah. Yeah. i don't I didn't think it was a ship. I thought maybe it was like. Tentacle porn. Well.
01:14:03
Speaker
No, that's not the technical one I go for. They're more green. Um, uh, yeah, I didn't, I just didn't think it was

Movie Watching Experiences

01:14:09
Speaker
a ship. I thought it was some sort of like, you know, like he, he brainiac, for example, had fired out several small ships that death star lasered down by that kind of thing. I don't know. I hope so. Um, because I just, I don't want it to be some nondescript background for the poster that never comes up in the movie. They have cast several other heroes in the film already. Okay. I didn't know that. i There's led like Mr. Terrifics in it. The tornado man. Like it's changed. god he's gonna He's got to yeah pull some obscure characters in.
01:14:48
Speaker
how how the How the hell does he cast his brother in his film? i watched ah You watched Flash recently, Dan. Unfortunately. I missed the the Nick Cage cameo as Superman. Yeah. How did I miss that? Oh, the actual Flash film. I remember the CW series, I was like, Nick Cage wasn't in that. do Do you realize that was as bad as it was, but Nick Cage apparently was there on set to do that and it still looked fucking plastic? No, no, no. I thought they used the the archive footage for that. Wasn't that the thing?
01:15:25
Speaker
Nick Cage expressed anger that he turned up to set. He posed in front of a green screen. They told him what he's seen was going to be, and they totally changed it after the fact. Oh, really? That's why it looks so rubbish. But I i missed it. i didn't I don't remember seeing it. I watched the Flash movie. I don't remember seeing that cameo. It was all the worlds colliding at the end. I'd really, really checked out. maybe I'm really hoping by the time I get to my third aeroplane beer that like the flash is on the airplane film. So I get to watch it half cut and like air sickness kind of like, you know, and you like yeah kind of get a bit delusional in the in on a plane. yeah i I'm not sure you should do that to the people around you, man. Not let alone yourself, but you get to leave all this in, aren't you Pete?
01:16:12
Speaker
Yeah, fuck yeah. um We're three minutes three and a half minutes in, four minutes in. Even the people around me. It's such a fucking horrendous movie. Oh, those creeps that watch your screen while you're trying to watch something on a film. Yeah. No, don no, no. Your comments. you You might not have been as vocal as a what I will be about it, but fuck me. It was so goddamn bad. So bad. It'll just be, you know, just now people assume that I'm on some sort of drugs because I'll be laughing hysterically. It's just that. ah Let's, let's talk about alcohol. It's much better. Let's, I'm going to start this time because I'm going to kick things off. I am having a porter. I am having a porter from Ekham Brewing Co from Mount Crenge. I don't know if we've done Ekham on the podcast before. Well done, I pay attention. Oh, fuck you.
01:17:05
Speaker
That was my fourth beer. I'm not drinking that yet. Oh, there we go. Well, I've started the shield wall and you can join it. This is the shield wall porter. I was going to have it for my fourth beer and I just flipped it as I walked back into the room. I was like, no, my fourth beer has a higher ABV. I'll have that last. So Dan started Ekkenbrewing. Dan started Ekkenbrewing. Dan started the reviews of Ekkenbrewing way back and I've done three or four cents. We did the red to start with. Yeah, probably. Yeah. And then I did the Longboat Lager a couple of episodes ago and yeah, they got cool names. I relate. I like them. Yes. Anyway. This is very oaty and slightly smoky.
01:17:53
Speaker
And it has tickled my testicles. This is, I was not expecting, yeah, I was not expecting that. I'm getting a real campfire smokiness coming through. And it's just hitting me more and more after that first sip and it is delicious. This is exactly what I want in a porter. This is great. This is fantastic. I really hope this is the same thing for you. They say that it's got an Aussie malt backbone of pale crystal and chocolate malts and with added oats. Little, yeah, I can prop, yeah, the chocolate is there.
01:18:30
Speaker
but it is nice and light. but Wow. There's just, there's a delicious campfire smokiness that personally is a someone who loves. Like I, the froig is my go-to, like this is great. If this is This is amazing. This is exactly what I want. I would 100% sit around a campfire with that and just be content for about six to eight hours.

Series Reviews: Adaptations and Endings

01:18:54
Speaker
About a full pack of that. Just sitting around a campfire, just slowly sitting back. Go to the Gandalf the Grey mode where you're just sitting there smoking a pie. Get me a pipe with some old Toby and I'd be absolutely set. Yeah. I'm giving that a 4.5 again. Yeah.
01:19:14
Speaker
It is so much smokey than I expected it to be. I expected it to be like nice and smooth. It is very smooth. But that's kind of where I expected it to stop. And I thought, like just from reading the back and like what I saw about it online, that that's might be where it ended. But for me, just, yeah, there's a real smokiness that I get out of that. um Also, the label is dead on point. There is yeah fuck yeah less than a million that it is very well done. Um, and yeah, I like, I like the whole, or the, the, on theme, the, the shield ball. Yep. Yep. Anyway, that's me. Who's next? Dan. Uh, I've got the, but fuckck them the grad dad Brown from new England. so
01:19:56
Speaker
that Tom was talking about so earlier, 4.5%, brown ale, dark ale, really nice, lovely, just white, white chocolate warm characters to it, but nothing overpowering, just a, it's a really nice, sesh-table, easy drinking dark beer. It's um beautiful, nothing offensive about it, nothing over the top, just a real, real beautiful balanced, balanced product. Uh, chocolaty characters, not too much sort of coffee or roast characters, but just those, um, yeah, those, those light, real, real light chocolate characters just sits really nicely. Virtually no bitterness to it. Um, no hop character, not meant to though, but just really, really beautiful, light brown. Another 4.2. Yeah, nice. Insistent.
01:20:53
Speaker
That was so much more reserved.
01:20:58
Speaker
Sobering even. It was. Peter, what are you drinking? I'm drinking a bad shepherd peanut butter porter. Oh, yes. It's a, what's the ABV five point something, I'm sure. Maybe six. Where is it written? Six point four in fucking fine print. Six point six point four percent. ah It's funny. It doesn't smell at all peanut butter. I'm not a huge fan of peanut butter. Really got it in the mood. Yeah. um I love peanut butter. um I mean, but I've never i've I think I've only ever had one beer that's really nailed that.
01:21:38
Speaker
characters. It's such a ah hard thing to get in. I don't like peanut butter. in my whole yeah i like I love peanut butter toast, but if you put peanut butter in my beer, I will slap you. Oh yeah. no so dan I encourage you to try this because it's not super sugary. like and it's it's it It has that real peanutty nut flavor. There is ah a little bit of I'm not going to say the, ah the, the, the R word. There's a little bit of sugar in the end. Residual sugar. You guys give me about saying the drink. oh You've said some other R words that we've gone. Yeah. No, you can't say that Pete. So we were both like, ha
01:22:19
Speaker
yeah what's the yeah and So it's a little bit sweet right at the end. Tom was obviously thinking the same thing. um tryinging i had a cry um There's a little bit of of almost candy sweetness at the end, but it doesn't, but it's right at the end. So you get the the real nuttiness and the the the dryness of peanuts with a little bit of sweetness at the end. Um, it's, I'm surprised. I was, like I said, I wanted to kind of get it out of the way because I'm not a big fan of peanut butter. I'm not a big fan of peanut butter beers, but it's pretty fucking good. I'm going to have to go with a 4.0 for that one. Um, I'm impressed. Who was it again? Sorry. Bad shepherd. Bad shepherd. Yes. I think I have had that one from bad shepherd. Yeah.
01:23:10
Speaker
Yeah, yeah but like two years ago many, many batches ago. Yeah, I'm pretty happy with that. The cat likes it too. I got Cara on my lap smelling the air around me, which is really weird. Cats like peanut butter.
01:23:29
Speaker
Dogs like peanut butter. They like veggie butter. Dogs love peanut butter, yeah. That's what loves peanut butter. It's got peanut butter cookies in the line. The whole section of the internet just, just around the man. Oh, peanut butter, stop. Peanut butter. Bad form, peanut butter, bad form, bad form. Come on, Michael wasn't going to go there. I used to give Crystal her tablets in peanut butter because she wouldn't fucking take them any other way. So I'd have to give her a worm tablet, smothered fucking peanut butter. It's just like she'd eat it. No, my vet taught me the treat to like just stick it the tablet down the throat of the dog. and yeah just was what Here we go. Got that, you dog. Literally. um Let's get some reviews. Pete, you've got you got a couple, so i will let I'm going to let you go first. Okay. That was unexpected. Not ready. um
01:24:16
Speaker
three body problem. Season one, I think. This is the big Netflix one, isn't it? Yes. Yeah. I was going to say, I don't remember which, which streaming service was on, but, um, and so if you, if you look at the reviews on IMDB, there are two groups of people. There are the people that read the book and they say it's a steaming pile of shit. And the there's the people that have never read the book who like me say that it is. Intricate, interesting, well thought out. And for a theme that, you know, has been done to death in terms of science fiction, alien invasion, there's a lot of originality to the story. I was thoroughly impressed. Um, I actually bought the first book and started reading it as a result because
01:25:10
Speaker
I'm going to go the other way, read the books after the series. Um, but yeah, no, thoroughly enjoyable, really good series. So I knew there was something different about the books. It's a Chinese science fiction. It is. yeah Um, it is. And I couldn't, I was thinking Korean, um, but it's actually Chinese. Yeah. I know we've we've had this discussion, Pete, I know nothing about it. I've always wanted to, I wanted to read the books, but I always felt, uh, inaccessible. Inaccessible, yeah, like, like Blindsight did, but I think I still am going to read them before. I don't think you'll find it inaccessible, to be honest. If, if the books are as well explained as the TV series, then I think that it will be quite accessible because it doesn't go through, like, you don't you don't need a PhD in quantum mechanics to understand it. Sorry, I dropped out. You hadn't, you haven't read the series yet.
01:26:08
Speaker
No, no, I bought the books and I started reading the first book. But the the problem is the start of the TV series and the start of the books is quite, um it's not slow. It's just a bit of a slog to read. um everything Like too much information too quickly kind of that kind of heavy or?
01:26:32
Speaker
It's almost like when you were watching, when when I was watching the TV series, the first episode takes you through a series of scenes set in um in China during the overthrow of the government. I can't remember what the the movement was called, but they were killing everyone and burning books and rejecting the rest of society. Everything is not Chinese. like Yeah, yeah. um And it was lots of factions and lots of, you know, let's kill the educators and burn every book. yeah kill If you wore glasses, you were educated, so you got killed. Yeah, yeah. And reject Einstein because he was a Western western scientist and all the rest of it. so So the TV series moves through that segment quickly. And it's really important at the start of the series because it establishes
01:27:24
Speaker
the psyche of one of the really major players in the story. um So the TV series did a brilliant job of moving through that quickly. It was action packed and then it was over before it started. And then moves into kind of a, okay, we've established a character, now there's a bit of a slow burn character build up and then it gets really cool really quickly. I got to the slow burn in the book. And it's almost word for word. They did a really good job in the series of recreating the book. Unfortunately, they did a really good job of recreating the slump.
01:28:03
Speaker
and Too slow with a slow burn at the same time. yeah yeah I will finish the book. um But yeah, now the TV series is excellent. The concepts are excellent. um I've been very like I've been circumspect in the way that I talk about it because there's a lot of. a lot of twists in it that you don't see coming or that are quite original. I've not seen a story like it. Um, so I don't want to ruin anything for anyone. It gets a little bit kind of yeah same, same, but different towards the near the climax. But once the big reveal happens towards the end of the series, it's, it's a, it's a good payoff. Good series thoroughly enjoyed it.
01:28:51
Speaker
I recommend it. Recommend it. Yeah, I think we'll have to watch it. We just... Yeah, you'll enjoy it, Dan. I think you and Lou will both enjoy it, to be honest. Very good. Hmm. What's next? Tom, go. Bad Batch season three is finally ended. um This is the end of the Bad Batch saga, sad to you know to use to use the term loosely. um Look, it was a really, really good ending to the Bad Batch story that we'd seen in the first two seasons. That said, though, there was a middle part of the series where I was really worried it was going to fall into the same trope of just being too Jedi-orientated. When they started,
01:29:37
Speaker
Look, it has just dropped this, these episodes I'm talking about are, let's say they're about six weeks old. Um, so I can kind of loosely talk about it when they started talking about M counts without saying the word midi-chlorian, but talking about midi-chlorians, I rolled my eyes and I'm an episode one fan. So, you know, let's just put that out there. Like, you know, what are midi-chlorians? Um, like. it was It was a it was a ah funny way to- That's a Zack Snyder-esque fucking let's all ground this fantasy world in reality for no reason. for no reason Except for for being the time that it was in 99, 2000 when you had to try and ground just sci-fi and reality for whatever reason. Was it 99? 99 was Phantom Menace. Wow. whoa whoa whoa I need to pull back on this. ah so I need to interrupt your train of thought here, Tom. I really apologize about this.

They're talking about midichlorian counts. Didn't fucking Filoni do Bad Batch and Ah, and Ahsoka and completely wipe the idea of midichlorian? Well, Filoni is the director of this one and he brings back. He doesn't say the word midichlorian. to his credit. Oh God. So he talks about contradictions. Could have just had a dyslexia and called it a J count. It's the Jedi measure. How many jake joints have you had today? um Look, they're talking. Not enough. it's It's the same thing of trying to unnecessarily tie the series into the greater Star Wars mythos in terms of
01:31:15
Speaker
One of the larger plots of this- I miss the old days where it was just internally internally, there was internal continuity. Just doing the bad batch thing. This is now, hey, how can we tie this into what's come out in Canon recently? Cool. Let's tie this into project Necromancer, which is the big project that Palpatine works on because he's trying to figure out how to input the force into clients. Which has been well established in the expanded universe. Yeah, legend. It's the whole thing about Snoke. Even Yeah, it's tying all into that. It's just it's just an unnecessary tie-in. You can see Filoni in this trying to tie things in for the sake of Filoni wants them tied in. um
01:32:05
Speaker
This is a big spoiler for anyone. Are you guys going to watch, you're not going to watch the series? Well, Dan's definitely not going to watch it because he's abandoned all things. probably I mean, there may be at some point, but I don't care if you spoil it. The only thing that was going to hold me in any, any touch to this series, this franchise was Bad Batch. So the central brothers ah and the Central Brothers arc brought me to tears in episodes. Yeah. Because it was still so centric brotherhood. It was um the way that they tie in the spoiler tech.
01:32:41
Speaker
No. No. Tech's done. Tech is dead. Tech is dead and buried. Look at that. I really shit myself the entire season worrying that I'm going to bring it back. But they have the balls and tech is dead the entire season. Wow. That's a first time somebody's made a big call like that in Star Wars. Yeah. Yeah. But Disney Star Wars, I should say. Exactly. Yeah. So tech stays dead. They reference tech. They talk. They obviously are devastated by the loss of tech, but they bring back um Sharpshooter, what's his name?
01:33:15
Speaker
Sharpshooter, the brother, the sniper brother. Oh, Crosshair. Crosshair. Crosshair comes back in a big way. Crosshair's fucked up after his time in the facility. um and But he gets welcomed. There's an episode where he actually gets brought back into the thing, and there's a couple of episodes where they just don't trust him. And there's is this one episode where Hunter and Crosshair are stranded together, and they have to fight together, and they just go back to basics. And it's just like that, they're back, they're brothers, they're back together. It's pure Clone Wars, it's pure Clone Commandos. It's exactly what we read in Karen Travis's books. And it literally, it was a Saturday morning, I'm having a coffee and I'm bawling my eyes out to a fucking kids cartoon. Because I'm just like, this is what the fucking Clone Brothers was about. It was one of the best moments of that whole series. um They teased a lot of stuff.
01:34:08
Speaker
with a secret clone commando group um that Hemlock develops. They're more susceptible clones that he's trained. The whole time I was like, please don't want of them to be tagged. never revealed who they are. They are faceless commanders at the time. And I fucking love that by the end of it. I was like, yes, I didn't need to know who they are. I just need to know that they were clones that you absolutely corrupted into the way of doing things. The weirdest episode, it's right in the crux of this like four episode arc about M counts and blood testing for some ungod known reason. They just throw a size Ventress back in the mix.
01:34:48
Speaker
She's there for one episode, pops in. Yeah, pops in, has yellow lightsabers and then fucks off. And a haircut. And a haircut, yeah. And a hair, sure, I should say. And hair. yeah Yeah, well, yes, yes, she's growing out the hair and she she she has a cut, but yeah. um That said though, the the rest of it was was just the same infectious bad-batchness you've come to love, the the way the brothers interact. It got real dark, um but also there were such moments of hilarity. There's a fucking great moment where um Echo is infiltrating the um the mountain base.
01:35:25
Speaker
And he realizes that in the stormtrooper armor he's in, he will be seen for his droid attachment instead of a hand. So he shoots an interpreted droid and steals his hand. just

Analysis of Rebel Moon 2

01:35:37
Speaker
just it's And then he's got this dumb, dumb way to hand that he has to then kind of manipulate into doing things like grabbing the gun and the rest of the episode. That's even darker because the Mandalorian season three established that droids have feelings. i mean we've stu that very early on the yeah yeah but Well, more so in... You stole my prosthetic arm. No, no, he kills him. He killed and he shoots him. The way the the voice actor behind Henlock is brilliant the whole way through. um
01:36:12
Speaker
the the way they they That said though, One thing that really irked me was, obviously we knew Scorch from Republic Commando came back in this series um to put up, to spoil it and put it bluntly, he's unceremoniously dealt with. yeah Like brutally unceremoniously. um But at the same time, It kind of harks back to like, you don't see the rest of his squad. So you never felt like it was really scorch underneath that armor. He's pretty prominent throughout the entire season in like, he's, he's Hemlock's like right hand man. um And yeah, but just the way they brought the brothers back together. Yeah. And just the balls to keep tech dead, like really actually appreciated the fact that they keep tech dead the whole time.
01:37:07
Speaker
um And there is a post, I wouldn't say post-grad, there's an epilogue. There's an epilogue to the series. um It does tie into, as Ed said, ties into later later parts of the Star Wars universe, but not in a gross weaseling in kind of way. It's more just, yeah, that's exactly what's happening in the Star Wars universe right now. This makes total sense. This is exactly what these characters would be doing. um Yeah, so there were hits, there were misses. I'm sad it's over. I really liked the Bad Batch as a series. I thought it was one of the better Star Wars animated series. I love the Bad Batch, and I do miss it, but yeah, fuck those guys. Yeah, no, absolutely. Not the Bad Batch, Disney. Yes. Disney, yeah. Get Skits, Skits, Skits. Ooey Flicks. Ooey Flicks. Yes, Ooey Flicks. No, Ooey Flicks. Ooey Flicks. Look, it's a well-handled end to the series.
01:38:05
Speaker
um And I liked the way they ended it. The last episode, the 50 minute episode they dropped, which is essentially three in one on on May 4th, was the perfect way for me to spend that afternoon. Pissing down rain outside, a triple episode of Bad Batch Back to Back. um you know, Omega did her thing without being too Omega-ish. Yeah, and and essentially, yeah, it it was a perfect, the perfect ending for that series that you needed, which then later tied into the greater Star Wars mythos. It's just along the way, they spent too much time trying to tie into other things, which I would have rather have seen um the bad batch off doing the bad batch thing.
01:38:49
Speaker
It came to two central character focused about Omega and her her role in everything. um And that's weird that they would choose that path because they could have had continued to have their own thing that could have been very successful ongoing. Like a Monster of the Week kind of thing. terms of Yeah. But they they went into a more of a central story arc around around the squad and the bringing Omega into that thing. um That said though, look it up Dan, even if you don't watch it. the In the later episodes, like one of the the second last episode, the third last episode, um for story reasons, they have to um completely scratch all their armor of their paint and they go back to this completely blacked out but white outlined armor and then it reflects that in the Bad Batch logo in the last episode. Oh really?
01:39:44
Speaker
It is fucking mint. Crosshairs armor in that is some of the best clone armor I've ever seen. It just it looks like a burnt out 3D printing. It's fucking sick. Look it up. yeah It's good. Yeah. For some, like, cause I love the way they add the color to that armor, but then to just strip it, they strip the armor. Yeah. They strip the armor back, back to black for their last mission. And it fucking works. it is When Andor season two finally comes out, I will, we'll watch it. Yeah. Cause that's the only thing I'll pay Disney for is Andor season two. Hmm. Hmm. Sui Fleece. What? Don't pay him a cent. Yeah. Yeah. That's me. That's me done. Yep.
01:40:30
Speaker
Ball it. Cool. Have you guys seen it? Yep. No, I am yet to see it, but you can spoil away because I'm waiting for Emma. Oh, okay. em Emma wants to watch it. This is one of the few game series that I think Emma's ever said, you want to watch that? Yes, it's good. She, she will, I think, I think it's a good one. Yeah. To introduce Emma to. Yeah. Well, she wants me to play Fallout 4. So yeah, she knows the basics of the story. Yeah. yeah Yeah. I mean, Louise knew very little about fallout. Um, she'd seen bits and pieces. She knew of it, obviously. Um, she'd seen very few bits and pieces of me ever play it. Cause like I established, I've never finished one of the games. Um, and she loved it. She just thought it was well constructed and like I did too, I thought it was, I know virtually nothing about the fallout law. Um, I knew some bits and pieces, but ah I thought it was a really well.
01:41:29
Speaker
based which rendered within the world. I just thought it was the, everything looked like it should have looked. It felt was grounded. And had the no holds barred loopiness of the video game series. the unfettered violence and the fucked up-edness. It's not just, it's not just raw violence. It's also, that's really messed up did that did that that way. And that's always been the video game series from, from Day Dot. It's always, it's not just ultra violent. It's ultraviolet and really super dark humorously ultraviolet. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. And the TV series does that justice perfectly.
01:42:15
Speaker
this there were There were times where I really expected them to pull their punches. No. Like, grotesquely dark at at times. um And yet it felt fleshed out as. You could easily see that storyline being a Fallout video game. Yeah. Easily. Even down to like the, the vault dwellers and what was going on politically. And like, I don't want to paint this as a political thriller because it's not, but like there were some politics going on in the vault. You do get exposed to that in some of the Fallout games in the past. Absolutely you do. Yeah.
01:42:53
Speaker
Yeah, there's no drawn out story around politics, but you certainly get exposed to the periphery and then to see it, you know, play out on screen. The twists, the twist, the main twist, I think was well thought out. um It is pretty, I thought, you know what? Sometimes a TV series that is mirroring a gay, a well-established game IP talks too much to the core without any real purpose. Like it needs to establish itself and I'm the the truth that you need to believe in for this IP. I thought that the Fallout series told a story that was very key to the world that Fallout as a series has set in without going too far.
01:43:45
Speaker
ye like right Do you think that's because they have a very simple world mono in that war never changes? That's the fallout mono. It is, but i don't think but I don't think that's it for the series. i think I think it was well grounded in the the established canon um and it yet it it tells an original story and it also tells some of the origin story without being an origin story. Like it didn't feel forced. Yeah. I honestly think they fucking nailed the brief. Yeah. This is this is great because let's be honest, Pete, when this trailer dropped, you were very skeptical. Yeah.
01:44:30
Speaker
Yeah, I was, yeah I was, but it was just, it was zany and wacky in the Fallout kind of way. It was even, even the fucked up shit that goes on in the Brotherhood of Steel before they even really enter the story, that first episode, they introduced them and they show you the Brotherhood camp. It just, it really just nails it. I don't want to say I have, I've been holding back talking about it because there's, I don't want to spoil it, but Yeah, it's they really do nail the brief of telling an original Fallout story well grounded in the Fallout universe. It's an important story. So they gave it gravity without overplaying the hand of making it too central to the overall ethos or the overall IP. Yeah, because it's set slightly after Fallout 4 in the Fallout timeline, but also on the opposite side of the country.
01:45:29
Speaker
Yes, all that for said in Boston, and this is set more close to their LA. Oh, ya yeah. Yeah. And I think the actress that plays the vault dweller does a fantastic job of, of playing the, she was never ditty. She was actually really smart, but completely naive. And that's a really challenging, brief denial to be intelligent by naive. It's book, it's yeah book smart as opposed to street smart, but playing it. and And that's exactly, that's a perfect way to describe it. But they establish it in a very fallout way.
01:46:05
Speaker
within the within the intro of the first episode. but it's cool She is like this because of Fallout reasons. like Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I think it's it's ah it's a basic thing that people should understand about the Fallout thing. I'm assuming this is what you're alluding to, is that every bolt is a social experiment set up by the government. I mean, that's a pretty key concept. I think that they explore that As a central theme of the story. now what a Yeah, but I think that that's that's like a, you should know that going in, like. You don't need to have any, there there is no assumed knowledge. Okay. And I think that's a really good, good point. Yeah. You don't need to know anything about the fallout world or the universe to appreciate the story that it's telling you. And it's, and it's on point for what's going on in America at the moment too.
01:46:57
Speaker
And I think it just, it's, it's lucky happenstance that it's a social commentary today. That's as valid as the social commentary. The original game was designed to make about America back then. I mean, we watched two different shows, but anyway. Don't get into politics. No, my my point, Tom, was the in the very first episode, like within the first 30 seconds, when it establishes her as the main character, it shows her fixing pipes. are in So in ah in summary, watch Fallout season one. It's awesome.
01:47:38
Speaker
We don't know where we got to in that conversation. That was where we got to at the end of that. We started talking about Rebel Moon 2, the Fightbringer. Tom, have you seen Rebel Moon 2? No, in a very hilarious update, I went to go watch Rebel Moon 2 and found out that Emma's family's Netflix has finally locked us out. So I took it as a sign from the gods. So, let me just tell you, and I said this to Dan before we were waiting for you to come back.

Game Reviews: Story and Mechanics

01:48:06
Speaker
It is an absolute atrocious dumpster fire of a fucking movie.
01:48:13
Speaker
So no, we we had issues with the whole why would an intergalactic starship need to arrive on a backyard like a backward planet and steal their fucking unprocessed food and Snyder doubled down, doubled down on that theme for the second movie. He still was after the wheat, even after finding the intergalactic fucking super ninja that they were searching for. They've located her. They know where she is. What's his name and Empire Strikes Back? Captain Needer came out of lightspeed too close to the Hoth system.
01:48:56
Speaker
So they've located the intergalactic spy that they have been searching the galaxy for. She's holed up on a planet in a village and yet they still want. The wheat that they can't process on their ship. And so and when I say this, I mean, we love bagels. they bagels so So the farmers literally bag up the wheat and put the bags around the longhouse and put all the women and children in the longhouse because they won't bombard them from from orbit because of the wheat.
01:49:31
Speaker
and True to form they don't attack the we can't attack the peasants because they're surrounded by all the bags of wheat like a fucking in serious am i smoking crack right now how the fuck did this make it into a triple a title. Such a flimsy plot device that. There's no hiding how bad this is. It was just a steaming pile of shit. Do not watch the movie. It's it's going to be the new put a lampshade on it, right? It's it's going to be the hide it hide it behind a bag of wheat. That's going to be the new Hollywood yeah a trope. yeah trope yeah
01:50:13
Speaker
and It might even be a title of the episode. I'm not sure. but Behind a bag of wheat. boy It's just so fucking bad and the the drawn out drama of the death of one of the main characters we saw for about 10 minutes in the first movie and the ridiculously overdramatized and way like You're in a ship, the ship's falling to Earth or falling to the planet, 9.8 meters per second squared is the force of acceleration of gravity. If you're in low Earth orbit, no matter how big the ship is, you still have two minutes, maybe three minutes max before you crash into the Earth.
01:51:04
Speaker
And yet we somehow ended up with a 15 minute fight scene while it's vertical. I forgot to carry the one. You gotta carry the one. You always carry the one. And you'll sit there going, okay, i we've gotten to the point where they shot 28 bullets out of the 15 bullet clip and I can allow that because, you know, it's Hollywood. And then you get to like that 80th bullet without reloading and you're like, and that's a euphemism. It's not actually, literally, we're not talking about bullets. It's just, You can allow five, six minutes of on screen drama for a three minute free fall. But when you're in the 15th minute, it's like, guys, the ship crashed 10 minutes ago. when When are you going to catch up? This is just so bad. It's not funny.
01:51:50
Speaker
It's like when ah Old Maid and the Walking Dead had the un unlimited rifle mode on in the second series. The old man from the farm, yeah and his rifle just kept going. yeah It was just, it was perfect. It was just, it was tragically bad. The whole movie was tragically bad. And and there was no real payoff at the end. There was, there was no- Was there any actual story?
01:52:17
Speaker
No, thank you. the good answer The princess might still be alive. The princess was alive. They showed you. No, no, they can. They thought maybe. but No, the king was alive in the in the spirit world. No, the King's definitely dead, but they showed you the slaughter of the... Yeah, they showed you the slaughter of the daughter, but then they heavily implied the daughter's still alive. Who was alive in the spirit world then? I don't know. Was the was the regent guy that took over who murdered the royal family? The boss of Francis. Yeah. Yeah. He murdered the royal family. It was the him guy, the big general dude.
01:53:00
Speaker
That was it. Yeah. It's just, it's just so bad. Please don't watch it. Respect your eyeballs people. Oh, I'm going to, yeah but I just, it's ah just, it's it's just, it is so bad that it's not even a. So I might watch it. It's not even a latin a national lampoon level bad. Like ah it's not. Now I'm just picturing their walk they're walking into a battle zone in a tank and someone just goes wind them up. The shitter was full. It's just, yeah. You can just see it at the back of the dreadnought. Randy's just sticking the hose down the fucking, the space, the space got her, got the shit on his floor. It would have been better as a Mel Brooks meme. And now we have Mighty Joint. It's a scar giver, wind him up. Yeah, no, it's just so bad, but not in a good way.
01:54:00
Speaker
Anyway, let's move on. I have such a better film in my head right now. I have no doubt. that's true It's going to be like the flash to me to to the point where I'm just where I'm just going to go. Oh, you know what? This is Band-Aid time. Just fucking do it. That's why I intend to watch the flash on the on the flight. Because for some reason, films on a flight are just weirder and sometimes just funnier. It's the lack of oxygen. Yeah. That's the only way I think I'm going to get through the flash if I watch it on the fly. I was literally bound to that couch. There was nothing else I could fucking do. I could walk, I could go from there to bed and that's all I could do. And I'm like, you're right you know what? this And I was like, it was lack of oxygen for me too. I couldn't breathe properly. It's my hypoxia movie. yeah It's just like, I,
01:54:56
Speaker
It's not a sound effect. That's the actual bubbles in my brain exploding. You know, the worst part is, even if the Snyder Cut somehow rescues the movies. It won't. Yeah, let's just go through. Let's just go for a miracle. sorry so Let's just go for a miracle. Let's go through the full hypothesis here. It's still a narcissistic circle joke, even if it does rescue the movie, because it says he knew it was shit. He knew it was unrealistic. He fixed it in post and that was the second version. He waited for feedback. It's a feedback film. He can't fix this. It's got to be a completely different movie to fix this. Yeah, and and and he still it still makes him a narcissistic circle joke. Because because he he knowingly made a shit film just so he could release a second version that was somehow mediocre at best.
01:55:53
Speaker
Because the fundamental story is what his fans wanted though. Like it's just him listening to what his fans wanted. But it's just like there's no way to rescue the storyline being fundamentally flawed. Because the core of the story is we were looking for, we were looking throughout the galaxy for the really bad rebel. We found them in the first movie and killed them in the first movie and then still wanted to steal the food from the farmers, but somehow found the the girl captain who we didn't even know would be there but we were looking for her even more.
01:56:27
Speaker
But we still want the food. It was the robot list fun. Hopkins, seriously. Like I know, I know you're getting old and you're just trying to feather that golden nest for your great, great grandkids, but like, you know, don't eat the Doritos. It's not worth doing the ad. Anyway, let's move on to something that ah makes me want to drink fucking bleach less, please. Drano? I don't know. I don't know. It's such ah it's such a gold mine, isn't it? Just go on forever. Anyway, probably go on longer than the fucking movie did.
01:57:05
Speaker
I'm going to run through this real quick. ah my My little review, I want to put it here instead of in a winning son because I finished it and I finished it weeks ago. ah Banishes Ghost of New Eden wanted to play it ever since I saw the first trailer of games yeah game for it some summer games first. And I've got to say, It didn't let me down. It had some minor issues and 90% of the people within the characters within the game are fucking horrible people, but it's a time when it was set in. so Probably should lay the groundwork for this, shouldn't I? You play as two characters. a little bit You play as banishes, which are witches for ghosts.
01:57:49
Speaker
best way to describe it. They go around and they cure hauntings. it Hauntings and ghosts seem to be the biggest threat in this world. and They go around, ah they help people out, they get called in by priests and townspe ah towns um councils and that to banish larger issues that are- It's set set in- It's set in New England. ah the the the the Boston side of ah America. it say and so Boston is the main town that they talk about. You never go there, so you you're always just outside of Boston. and out in the front Out in the frontier. Out in the wilderness. And you play as Red McGrath, a Scottish banisher, and Anthea Duarte, who is a... ah God, is she Cuban? I think she's Cuban.
01:58:44
Speaker
um a Cuban banisher. and there's there's It was in the first trailer, so I'm not spoiling anything here. And Taya dies very early in the game after the basically the tutorial intro. It's pretty much the concept of the game. Yes. And Red and Taya are not married, but they're a couple. As well as Master and Student, um Entaya bought Red into the Banisher Circle and is training him in his Banisher skills. and They have an unbroken bond after she dies. She's bound back to the world as a ghost and then ends up being bound to Red, one through their love and two through their abilities.
01:59:27
Speaker
and it's It's a story-based game. There's a lot of action in it. There's a lot of stuff to do. There's a lot of like um ah missions for you to go through, haunting missions, and then decide who needs who's at fault here. and you can you always get They're like more open world missions, aren't they? Yeah, so they're side missions. So you've got your main core story, which your main core story only really exists as about six, six missions, I guess, and the rest of it's filled in. Like I still put like 50 hours into it, completing all the haunting missions because the characters are so well written that you actually want to engage with them. And there's a lot of dialogue. You spend a lot of time ah talking to people within these hauntings, the side haunting missions where you've got to have to
02:00:20
Speaker
go around and find find clues to fill in the story. I mean, none of it's missable or anything like that. You never have to really work hard to fill in these stories, but you want to do it. It never feels like busy work. It always feels interesting. and the each one is Each little side mission, each little haunting is very uniquely written and crafted around the set characters. And you'll re-cross paths with characters from different parts of the game. So a main mission will introduce you to characters of this little village. um You'll then complete that main mission. Maybe a couple little side missions during that main mission will pop up. ah And you'll then complete the main mission and then
02:01:07
Speaker
people will sort of go about their, their, their lives. And then you'll go to another area and then all of a sudden it'll go, Oh, Hey, there's new side missions. There's new haunting missions let up in this little town that you've been to before. And you'll go back there and you'll interact with the characters again. And I've got to say for a double a game, God damn, the voice acting was good. Like I'm not sure I encountered one There might have been one. I can't remember who it was, but...
02:01:40
Speaker
the quality of the voice acting, uh, for how much they had to actually say in all these side missions was fantastic. Uh, the, absolutely the outstanding voice of the game was the guy that played red, um, just, and I mean, you need it to be because it's the person you spend the most time with in the game. yeah so He was absolutely outstanding. And Taya was really good, but. Through I guess through direction of the script she became really flat at times times when things should have been a bit more emotional for her. um Got delivered quite flat and you didn't get there was some really pivotal points that.
02:02:29
Speaker
the the relationship between the two of them were lost was lost because her delivery was quite flat. His was quite passionate and hers was a little flat. But then there was other points where it was such a passionate thing between them. Like they they get really antagonized by one of the ghosts at one stage that basically makes them um be antagonistic towards each other. And this goes on for God, maybe 45 minutes for when you're going through one of these main mission parts. And they're really grating on each other nerve each other nerves. And you get to a point where they realize what's causing it. And that kind one of them pulls back, but the other one doesn't pull back. And there's reasons within the story why one pulls back and the other doesn't pull back. And like that, to me, one is clever writing, but two really good interactions between characters.
02:03:25
Speaker
That is definitely the absolute highlight of this game. The the world is for being covered in snow and really kind of natural ct colors most of the time is quite an interesting world. um the Like I said before, 90% of the characters are assholes, ah but Well, they're Bostonians, so they need to be. It's a tough life. I think there was, I think within the world, I counted probably two or maybe three genuinely good people. um And the rest, yeah, i ah three I can think of off the top of my head. Genuinely good people. Everybody else is
02:04:08
Speaker
good with a little bit of bad, but most of them are arses with maybe a little bit of good. And then you've got a maybe the bottom 10% that are just absolute pricks. Um, so the, the diversity of characters across the board is incredible. I, I, I'd loved it. I mean, you guys heard me bang on about it for ages and you hear me. Yeah. Um, the, it for all the shit that the, combat got, yeah, you don't get any other weapons than yeah your sword, your torch, your sword and your torch are interchangeable, they do the same thing, and your rifle and Teyr's abilities. You really don't get anything more than that for the whole game. So I see why pop people sort of said combat was boring, but ah I thought it was all right. I never got to a combat. It's also realistic. Yeah. like
02:05:01
Speaker
I thought the fights were all you would have had. You mean you don't carry a whole arsenal in your backpack? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I need a heavy weapon. I need a light weapon. I need two light weapons and then 17 swords. Hey look, my Quasar cannon when I'm not shooting it is on my back. I can see it. Yeah. And i I thought, I thought it was good. I mean, they, they all interacted well. The controls were snappy and responsive. I didn't think combat was a drag at all. I i quite enjoyed it for basically the entire game. So, um, but I mean, what absolutely drives you through this game is the the characters and the stories and the interactions between the characters because it is incredible. I absolutely love it. And I don't think it got anywhere near the love it should have gotten because
02:05:47
Speaker
It's an absolutely fantastic game, and it's fucking beautiful. It's Unreal 5, and it's great. and there's There's a certain point where you walk out onto a cliff area, Taya and Red, when you switch between them, um see the world differently, obviously. There's just one point that- Yeah, yeah. right rai well Not quite as drastic as that, but um and there's there's definitely, there's things that Antaeus sees because of the the spirit world, the red dozen. And everything is
02:06:23
Speaker
um I'll finish this up in two seconds, but um everything is animated. I love how there there were so many different animations for everything you did. So you it's summoning ghosts and memories and things like that is all about drawing a symbol on the ground, adding components from the world, and giving an incantation. And there is a little cut scene for every single one which cuts no problem. There is like the PS5 is wonderful for that, no load times. There was so many different lines for those sort of things that was great. Some of the lines further on got a bit repetitive where you would break a wall with an ability and you heard those lines repeated a couple of times.
02:07:06
Speaker
That anytime you had to draw a summoning circle there always seem to be something. Almost unique about it and i love every time i did it for the whole fifty hours fucking loved it is great um and they the one last animation was. You get to these points that are almost like, they're called, I don't want to give too much away, but you

Gaming Experiences and Favorite Titles

02:07:29
Speaker
you get to a point where europe the the ability to travel to another realm gets unlocked and you have to do it through this like obsidian glass area that you find throughout the world.
02:07:43
Speaker
you carve a symbol on it and you say an incantation and then Red puts his hand on it and then it switches to Anthea's view from underneath and she's reaching up she gets to the glass and she reaches through and she pulls Red through the the glass and he's sitting vertically like this and then he tilts and goes horizontally through the glass and appears on the other side. And it's all it's all hidden through a very clever load scene. And then it's just seamless. Once it gets pulled through the other side, there's no there's no flick back to character control. It's Constantine the way that you're if it is describing it. It ja feels very consistent with the cat scene.
02:08:25
Speaker
In a game sense, it reminded me of um ah the latest Ratchet and Clank when you got pulled through the portals to the other worlds where it just instantly switches no matter, but it switches you from like whatever forest world you're in to just like a deep space world. like yeah It's just like you go through a curtain kind of thing. And and that's what it's like. And they they hide the they hide the load screen between the blackness of going from the material world yeah to void. there's this And it literally is a plane. So you're you're looking at red from a side view like this, and he falls to the horizontal to go through the glass. And that's the black, and then it flicks back out the other side, and the camera goes with him and ends up the right way. And it's such a it's it's such a ah new way to hide a load screen. I fucking loved it. Every time I did it,
02:09:16
Speaker
And I would play those sort of challenge missions just to get that little animation. So I loved it. I loved it. Absolutely loved it. Fantastic. And then you watched a bunch of really... horror I'm not even going to cover these. I've got these as other unmentable stuff. We watched a movie called Dark Harvest. It was fine. These were all fine, I've got to say. Cobwebs, the only other one that was probably notable was Lovely Dark and Deep. um It's about a a lady who goes to be... Sounds like people how I think my exes would describe me. not any I wondered where that was going when he started. oh
02:09:56
Speaker
Oh, no. It's more it's quite a Lovecraftian cosmic horror, psychological horror kind of thing. and She's a ranger in the hiking season that is posted at a very remote station. And she's looking for a sister that she lost many years, many years ago in the same park. And it goes through her sort of understanding of what is happening in the park and maybe a little bit of a descent into madness. Um, it's a very quiet, reserved sort of movie that doesn't have jump scares, but is quite mentally challenging. psychological Exactly. yeah Yeah. All the way through. Um, that's all I'm going to mention on those dark harvests and cobwebs and
02:10:42
Speaker
The Harbinger were fine. the They were B-grade post-COVID. Bunch of B-grade horrors. post Post-COVID made films that were done on a low budget back to yeah the the easy horror movies of of old.

Fourth beer, Dan? Yeah, I'm going to have to quickly introduce and then go for a pee. New England, the Night Hunter. This is their premium lager, 4.8%. It was done in conjunction with one of those little Tasmanian things, corals. The devil's quarrels. No, the little ones. Yeah. I know what you're talking about. I saw one. It was the conservationist was freaking the fuck out that we saw them. I think they are corals or corals or. Oh, it says it on the back. Quarrels. and So this was done. Quarrels? No, it's a quall. Quall. There you go. um Done with quall rescue. So this was sold to raise money. Oh yeah. They were one of the furry friend chocolates you got. Yeah.
02:11:51
Speaker
that Yeah. Yeah. So. one Sorry, I just kept paying, I started paying attention again, rather than writing my beer notes in the interviews. So all these, I love all these labels that Blair's done for New England because they're all really simple colors. There's, there's two, maybe three colors within the, within the labels and nothing's overstated. Like. there's no kaleidoscope of shit on a digital print that people seem to be doing these days. So you're going to put these New England beers in a fridge that are up next to like these stupidly colorful digital prints that can use a gazillion colors and labels you only get, I mean labels you can, but you really want to keep it simple.
02:12:32
Speaker
And I just like the way they've kept all these colors and that beautiful simple, but the beer itself, it's a really nice lager. It's just, it's just, that's just it. It's just a, it's just a really standard lager, but it's. It's clean, clean and super enjoyable. yeah So I think this has just been a complete, ah but it's, I hate lager yeast. That's so yeasty and bready and just grows. Um, this is not like that. And I think they've um done a good job of it. So I think this is a fully consistent 4.25 night. Yeah. I gotta pee.
02:13:10
Speaker
4.259. I don't think you can realize what he said there, but 5 4.25 night. Right. what i I'm totally running that down as 4.259. Tom, what are you drinking, mate?
02:13:27
Speaker
Fuck your piss.
02:13:31
Speaker
i ah i did scholar fucking eight yeah nice and yeah i love it just ah It's just the way you just said that to the camera and you're just like, well Pete's drunk. um But delightfully so. We're in our fifth quarter, so we'll be fine. We are in our fifth quarter. i I got sucked into the void for a bit of that and that's no one's fault. We blank that out. It's all good. Yeah. No, no. You should keep that in. It's made of something. Help. Where am I? Let me back. We just got to get you through your your, are you winning son in 15 minutes or less and we'll be fine.
02:14:06
Speaker
Yeah, it's fine. I can do it in two. Um, I'm drinking small gods. The arm race, uh, arms, arms, right? race Yeah. The arms race. That's a really cool label. That's a very cool label. Yeah. Really, really. China would be proud. China would be proud. I was thinking really, um, space race though, like really Soviet like Kennedy era, US the space program. Yeah. Um, it's a hundred IBU double IPA. Uh, it comes in. I don't know how to measure this shit. Dan to fucking keeps going on about it. It's a hundred IBUs, Dan. A hundred IBUs.
02:14:50
Speaker
Do you need to measure how small my testicles get by the end of the day? Melt your face when you sip it. It is dank as fuck. It's delicious. I love it though. On my scale, it should be 110 IBUs because I love it 110%. This is the kind of IPA that I want. I want it big and bitter and round and in your face. That's exactly what it is. Small gods, arms race. Look at the can heart. Look at that. Oh, yeah. Nice. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Also, it is fucking bang on. That is smack bang on. Look at that. You can't even put the keys in. You could park the car in that. Correct.
02:15:30
Speaker
um
02:15:33
Speaker
This is not a coward's IPA. This is this is a this is a big, bitter dank Resinous, sweet yet bitter IPA. This is delicious. This very well could be a hundred IBUs. I don't know. Like I'm not going to be the one to say that, but I fucking love it. Five stars. Five stars. Where are we out of five? i Five. Five stars out of, sorry, I am drunk. Shut up. Well, all right.
02:16:09
Speaker
How many out of five, Tom? Five. Where are we out of five on a five scout? I said five, Pete. Yeah. Sorry. Yep. One. No. Two. Shield wall porter. It's a. it Six and a half percent. Shut up, Tom. You're going to throw me off my game. I'm going to throw you off your I'm a, I'm a concierge of beer. Shut up. Concierge beer. Uh, not a connoisseur, concierge. Um, yeah, you are. Yeah. It's, I got the campfire thing early on when I first cracked it. It's been sitting on my, my, uh,
02:16:50
Speaker
desk for a while, so it's warmed up. It's lost its campfire quality now, but it's still a, a solid porter. So I got the campfire quality at the start, the like the smokiness. Oh, actually, this is actually really, this is going to be a funny experiment. When, what's, what's, what's the date on yours? What's your canned on and best before date?
02:17:16
Speaker
He's getting it. Oh, this is going to be funny. He's going to find it. So as he tips it up above. No, no. Hey, it's, it's, it's there next to the barcode. It says, what does it say? Canned on the 24th of the 1st? Oh, cool. No, we did because we bought it from a semi-major reserve. We got the same same... Which we named 11 times at the start. So, you know, no need to hide them now. Yeah, there's fuckers in our tarmen. The shitty fucking driveway. yes shit like but Yeah, Best before 24th of July. No, not yet. Yep. No, we got the same. Canned on the 24th of January. Yep. No, we got the same. Same back.
02:17:56
Speaker
Interesting sometimes with those. It's just warmed up. for guys It's warmed up a fair bit though. So like it's, it's warmer than I would typically drink, even a dark beer. So it's still pretty good though. Uh, I'm all, it's kind of getting to the, it is getting to the, uh, soy sauce kind of end of the spectrum now though. Going to give it a four to five. I think it's still pretty good. Yeah. Dan. Mine was smoky as shit. Are you winning, son? I have. I've finished. I've finished. I reckon I've finished more games in the last fucking three weeks than I have in probably 12 months before that. No, I haven't finished that many.
02:18:43
Speaker
No, I finished Banishes, which I just banged on about too long. ah The other big one I played and finished, it was only about nine hours worth of first mission, first gameplay was Frostpunk. I've only ever been thinking about trying to get into City Builders for a long time. um and Frostpunk came up on sale on Steam for $8. So me and Kelvin jumped into it and um fuck me, it's fantastic. It's set in an alternative Victorian Steampunk universe where we've hit a um hey another Ice Age and you have to survive yeah have to survive the Ice Age basically. you They build these um
02:19:26
Speaker
incredibly massive cylindrical um ah steam, oh God, what are they called? Steam cores. And you have to collect coal and everything to to charge the steam core. And you've got to build your settlement around it. And you get hit with political issues, you get hit with medical issues, you get hit with resource issues, you've got to manage your people's um hope and despair ah through the whole thing. ah Oh God, that's not happening then. just and they Manage my hope. As well as dealing with ah dropping temperatures and fluctuating temperatures. I go full on Denethor.
02:20:09
Speaker
Despair, despair, flee your lives. It's funny, you can you can once you get a little bit into the game, you can actually go two paths. So you can either go the social side, which is more the totalitarian, in instill the military and police to to to subdue people and instill hope in certain other areas. Or you can go the religious side and you can build a church and faith. Is there a good option in this game? No, no. There is no good option in this game. There is this game. We either go CCCP or we go Catholic Church. That's it. Or you can go the best of those both worlds and build a religious ah police state. well that's control with with the With the religious. back to
02:20:57
Speaker
but With the Warhammer 40K really. With the religious side, you you get, you have to build a faith givers and, or faith keepers they're called, which are the religious police. So you send the faith keepers out. it when Sounds like Bioshock or something. It kind of is, it kind of is. And nothing, they don't use real world symbolism or anything like that. It's a full steam punk world. There is huge automatons that you can build that will do the work and of an entire team of people. Can't say that word. Held over us too. um
02:21:28
Speaker
so but you They build large 8080s. So your your whole your whole civilization is built around this steam core. So all your city is built in a circular area and you can't you can't build you can build out from that circle, but it always has to be in a spherical or ah or a flat circular plane. So you can't build like a ah circle with then like rectangles off it no and build other. No, it's constantly spherical. It's constantly spherical. So you get your steam core in the middle and then you get your ring, which you usually put your housing in there.
02:22:04
Speaker
and then you can build a spherical road behind them and then you've got the the next ring out from there because you upgrade your steam core and you your levels of heating goes out in in rings. and i'm saying rings of white too and this put dom into herlarity um But it's it's great. It's what you watch out for your steam call. There's rings. There's there's there's no good outcome in this game. It's always doom and gloom. You can you can have a little bit of sunshine.
02:22:44
Speaker
He's gone. He's gone. Yeah. there's There's a little bit of hope distilled there, but um most of it is doom and gloom. And it's it's just fun. And me and Kelvin have started to set ourselves challenges on the um on the the ah free roam, the free build levels where who can survive the most days. So we we pick a level and see who can survive most days there. So that's pretty fun. Um, and then I opened up God of War Ragnarok on, um, your game plus and have been been through that. Yeah. So, ah, very nice. so I didn't know you were doing that you cheeky devil. Yeah. I started that last week and I just, it's, it's fun. Like it's, it's, it's thanks for the update ah wonderful to be back in that God of War Ragnarok world. The only problem is I find myself, and this is one thing I hate to do with games is I find myself, uh,
02:23:41
Speaker
going down the route of an optimization build because you have the spear and the blades and the axe. so I've got a i've got to chest armor that gives me... ah Anyway, I'm building... I've got a staggered build. so I can basically take out any enemy now in a couple of hits because I've got a staggered build. And I just run up to him with the spear, like charge up to him, do the, the big, the the big, um, Achilles dive in. staby stabbing And, and the three quarters. I played the acts all the way through. So I build a strength, a strength build all the way through. And they really nerf the acts. I know I've said it before, but they really, you're doing this now. Are you doing this purely because you know the story?
02:24:33
Speaker
No, no, it was just it was just the I've looked at the armors that I had and the bits and pieces that work together. And I'm like, oh, well, that kind of works. Let me try it. And because I got a little bit kicked to start with when I didn't have an optimized yeah because you come straight out with anything that you finish the game with. You just are wearing the same stuff. yeah yeah yeah So I got kicked a little bit to start with, so I had to optimize a little bit. And now I'm really in this like, wow, okay, this isn't how I like to play games, but do I do it? Cause you're too, you're too overpowered now. Is that what you're ah well essentially saying? yeah ah Well, I just, I just know the, the mechanics of it. So I've got to build now that just allows me to. This reminds me when I remember when I did that power run of, um,
02:25:23
Speaker
Jedi fallen order before Survivor came out. But I played it on the easy mode, but I played it through as a power mode and I said it was was enjoyable because you felt like an overpowered Jedi. I think this is the opposite to that in that I would enjoy that Kratos because the whole story is about the way you struggle with all that kind of stuff. Yeah. It's actually being too overpowered is contradictory to the story and creates that kind of cognitive dissonance. Yeah, it did. And I didn't, um, I'm enjoying it because, uh, there's a lot of stuff that obviously the game's actually quite a bit longer than I remember it being. And I forgotten a lot of the stuff. so cool and so Yeah. And so, and I sort of, I just got through the start of it and
02:26:10
Speaker
I really love it. i think is I think it's great to be back into it and the the interaction between Kratos and Atreus and Mimir, just all of them and the little bits that Sindri does and just the Sindri's actor might be off to the very corner of the screen and he'll just do something. And it's just so character driven all the way through. I just, I can't think of another game where I have aimlessly aimlessly um rode through the water just to hear the stories. Yeah, you kind of don't want to get to that beach over there because the story's not finished, so you'll do some loops. I've actively avoided landing just to hear the story. We'll pick this up later. No, no, no, motherfucker. I want to hear the ending now. We're right back to the story right now, sir. Excuse me, you beheaded. Like see you could like the strength of the voice acting cannot be measured better.
02:27:06
Speaker
than doing fuck all in a video game just to hear the voice, I think. And I find myself in that spot again, I'm doing that exact same thing again, and just really enjoying the characters I'm coming across. Have you caught any of the um like any of the the talking scenarios that you didn't catch the first time? I have no, there was so much that was said. yeah ah I don't have a memory of it. so But I'm doing it all, all those bits and pieces again. There's there's new there's obviously new components that you're gathering.
02:27:37
Speaker
which are going to ah build up to other things. And there is some new elements that they introduce straight away. I forget what they're actually called. But there is straight away you get um things you can add to yourself. But there is also a um Spartan mode. So you can activate ah within the within the talking to Brock and Sindri within that upgrade menu. You can pick an ability that takes a lot of your other abilities away and turns Kratos back into his Greek.
02:28:09
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Into his great Kratos. So he takes, takes away a lot of your stuff. Um, and then you can dress him how he was in the original crate in the original God of war. So my, my greatest I've got here, you can do exactly that. You can have him with Valhalla. I knew you could go back and, and you can new game plus with the Valhalla skin they did for, um, for Kratos where they brought in the young Kratos. Oh, no, it's not. It's, it's still older Kratos, but no upper armor. Just completely bare chested with his little Greek rebel. I don't know if you saw the thing of the room over the weekend that they are remastering the entire first God of War trilogy for that would be nice as well. Yeah. But the anniversary, like as an anniversary release. Yeah, that would be nice. But yeah, I'm really having fun with like Frostpunk on the PC and God of War new game plus Ragnarok on the PlayStation. Yeah.
02:29:06
Speaker
Loving it, actually. Excellent. um Very cool. Peter, are you winning, son?
02:29:13
Speaker
In the heat the ah very limited time I've had to play video games, yes. You poor fucking bastard. No, i don't die. The calls for sympathy come outside of the scope of the podcast. um I've just not had a whole lot of time to play video games so and time I have had. That's exactly where my sympathy ends in that you have enough time to play video games. Helldivers 2. That's all I've played. It's Helldivers 2. It is uniquely enjoyable as an ongoing, like it's repetitive and yet it's ah progressive at the same time in a way that very few games have ever, ever really delivered. So as an easy example. Can I bluntly, can I bluntly ask you how long do you foresee yourself playing this game?
02:30:06
Speaker
It's an arcade game. It's perfect to just pick up and put down i another 30, 40 hours. I'm not saying, i like this thing, I'm not saying you're on the, like the destiny treadmill, but it's totally different. But see do do you see yourself continually coming back? because yes Well, I think the difference here is that you have someone, like they like the game architect who's telling you what

Strategic Gaming and Community Aspects

02:30:30
Speaker
you need to do. Joel. Joel Game Master. Yep. So, for example, and it was actually what what I was about to launch into, the entire game community playing the game was presented with a choice. The major order was either go and liberate um a planet called ah Penta or another planet called Chewy.
02:30:53
Speaker
And we knew that there were colonists on those two planets researching very different weapons technology and we could only save one. One was was researching um the ability to take down airborne threats, and the other was heavy tank-based threats. And we chose, well, the the community chose one planet, not the other. We liberated the planet. We got airburst rocket technology. So like surface-to-air missiles on a shoulder route-mounted kind of bazooka-style thing.
02:31:32
Speaker
And we just got the message that ah i we sent condolence cards and potato baskets to the ah super Earth colonists that were the next of kin from the people that lived on Chewie because we didn't save Chewie. And it's a permanent choice. There's there's no anti-tank lines coming. we I don't know if they'll ever release that, but they they built and playtested two different new weapons and only ever released one. And do they tell you like exactly what those weapons are before they go for them?
02:32:10
Speaker
No, they told us they were making so so we knew that either land to air or anti land. Yeah. Yeah. So we knew one one colony was researching some mines. That's all they told us. And the other rate the other colony was recent was looking into the latest airborne threat from the terminus. That's all we were told. And so the community as a whole chose and we will probably never see the anti-tech minds. And so in terms of- I personally love that because their allegiance is to the Republic and to democracy. So in terms of delivering on the promise of your decisions have a permanent impact on the game. Yeah. You can't get any fucking deeper than that in terms of meta. That's so, that's so good. Yeah. And there were serious discussions, long-winded debates. Some might even say heated on on Reddit as to which planet we should all choose.
02:33:10
Speaker
Um, how, did how did your, did your, did your crew line up on what you guys, I wasn't a part of that crew at the time. This is, this is going back about, uh, well, it's going back two weeks, April 29. We made it our choice as a whole. And there's been like 10 choices like that. This is not unique. This is just the latest. And I really love the potato baskets to the, to the colonies next of kin. Um, I love you. boiler mashum stick in it's It's funny because I started with the bugs. When I first started playing the game, it was very Starship Troopers and I learned how to kill hordes and hordes of melee creatures. Because of the automaton invasion, I had to completely relearn, a like a ah totally different strategy set. Use different weapons, use different um orbital attacks.
02:34:04
Speaker
to fill to to kill ah like terminators with guns. yeah And we pushed back that threat. Then they came back with a vengeance. We pushed the threat back again. And then the terminates came out of nowhere and started invading all of the planets. And we're pretty close to super earth being invaded at this point. And so I've had to relearn again. And it's just it just goes to show how different the tactics are on a on a loadout choice, but also on the ground choice. But it's a game that I have, I've played three or four matches for in the last week. And yet talk to people that I've been playing now, I've been playing with now for six or seven weeks.
02:34:48
Speaker
i I randomly jumped on a group chat the other day and in the game and it's like, oh man, I was, you're level like 140 now. I was, I, last time I saw you you were level 50. It's like, dude, you need to join the clan, like jump in here. And it's, it's very community oriented. Yeah. Yeah, but treadmill from Destiny to, no, I'm playing the game because I'm enjoying it, not because I want to unlock the next thing. I've unlocked everything that I need to unlock to thoroughly enjoying the game. There's no, yeah there's no like cheese on the end of the, ah well, there's no carrot on the end of the stick. I'm playing it because I still thoroughly enjoy it. But also they're doing a much better job of like, um,
02:35:34
Speaker
The story engaging you rather than just the. Yes. Oh yeah. But also it's just, that's the meta component, but just playing a game. Like you want to, um I will play a game before I go to bed tonight, just cause you know, I just want to go in and fucking shoot some bugs cause it's fun.
02:35:54
Speaker
That's winning son, that's winning. Tom, are you winning son? Oh, fuck am I winning son? You better fucking believe it. Double platinum weekend baby. um I'll start with Spec Ops. Spec Ops is a brilliant game. You guys didn't play it, did you? No, you said you were playing this, yeah. But yeah, just go check out the YouTube videos. Like it's been delisted in so many ah regions now. um It's just such a great contrast. Comparing contrast is probably the better term. Comparing contrast of the Vietnam War with um all iterations of the Middle Eastern Wars compared with America's hyper-militaritism, like the way they worship. We live in there, police are militarised these days.
02:36:45
Speaker
Absolutely. Yeah. So it's is's it's it's a great review of that in a video game sitting in, especially when like the first off, you're just like, Oh yeah, this is just a shoot them up. We're just, it's a military shooter. And then you're like, fuck, I just committed war crimes without, without realizing it. Well, shit. I'm a, I'm a. Guess I need to go to the Geneva Convention. Don't you hate it when that happens though? Yeah, yeah. It's just like, oh no, war crime again. Oh, not again. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And then the rest of it is like, so I played on the hardest difficulty. It was punishing, but the checkpoints were rewarding. It was like, hey it was such a classic PS3 title in that like you finally got through that fucking firefight and then you got the checkpoint and you went through the next one and you're like, oh shit, how the fuck am I gonna get through this? But then again, you got to the end of that and you're just like,
02:37:36
Speaker
Oh, checkpoint. Checkpoints are the best. It's like winning a super marathon, like, it's, just it's literally, it's, it's, it's, yeah, it's exactly that. It's, it's the trial line. It's, it's the cup of water at that, at that marathon mark. It's just whatever it is. There were so many times within it, I was just like, fuck man, I can't get through this game. And then you finally do it. You you you find that sweet spot where you can snipe through the heads. Um, whatever. It's very graphic as well. This game for a PS3 game, it was entirely graphic. Like the only way you could kill certain enemy types was with one head shots with a deagle and you did it. And their heads just went.
02:38:18
Speaker
Literally like cotton candy, just, and oh, see you later yeah, absolutely. So that was really fun. It was finally good to, like the story was great. I, I, the second time I played it on the super hard mode, I actually played the, I finally played like the shit story version of it. Cause there's very diverging stories. Um, I was the, definitely the war criminal that entire time. Unfortunately more enjoyable. Uh-oh. Oh no. Bad sign. Um, yeah, the other time it was like, Oh yeah, I'm not going to kill all these civilians. so That civilian just killed my, my squad member. I'm going to mow them all down. It's that kind of choice scenario. Like, yeah, that kind of thing. Yeah. Um, and then I went back to, I needed a break from Assassin's Creed. It was too much. Assassining.
02:39:10
Speaker
creating. Whatever. Yeah. Got up to three. I'm really enjoying three now that I'm back to it. ah lot army Yeah. Three was good. It's good story. It's good setting. Um, but after multiple twos and ones and ah fours and unities mixed into that for whatever reasons, um, I just needed a break. So I, I, for whatever reason, played Mirage. No, I jumped back into Star Wars Battlefront 1 from 2015, randomly.

And I was at about 50% of the completion. And I was like, oh, cool, I'll jump back in. And then I got a message from some dude randomly on PSN. He's like, hey, bro, do you want to join our boosting group? and I was like, yeah, man, I'll join. I'll just turn through some XP.
02:39:54
Speaker
And then the fever hit and then suddenly I was, I was getting up at 5am to play with some dudes online, um, to do a specific trophy that they needed. I already had, but I, if I helped them the next weekend, they'd help me get another trophy I needed. It got crazy. oil dangerous Let me tell you the greatest thing that has happened to me in playing online with other people was that it was about. ah Two Saturdays ago, about 6am in the morning and I was playing with this guy from Germany.
02:40:26
Speaker
And he had the classic like, Oh yes, we're playing from Germany. yeah were goingnna pale to Battlefront game. We're going to shoot some imp Imperial stormtroopers. And I was already chuckling. I was like, this is great. This is, this is the only reason I woke up at 5am is to hear this guy voice. And he goes, Oh man, this guy just keeps killing me. And I'll say, Oh bro, who is it? Like, if you need, if you need to jump in this, cause he needed these, he needed to stop people in an 80 ST. So I was, I was designated to protect the stumpy. Oh yeah. with them So but I was, I was, yeah, I was running around shooting people before they could shoot his, his ATST. So he could keep stomping our friends who are on the opposite team. We had, it was a boosting session. He goes, Hey man. Um, Hey, Gondorian Jedi. i I can't believe it's, but, um, you know, you're playing really well and you're shooting all the guys, but big fatty daddy 11 keeps shooting me. my fucking lost it. I have never cry laughed by you. He said, no, big fatty daddy keeps shooting me. I can't play because big fat dude. Can you just stop talking? Can you just say daddy daddy 11? No, that doesn't work. Just say number 11 keeps shooting me. He goes, why, why can you not find big fatty daddy 11? And I was like, no, I can find big fatty daddy 11. But just
02:41:45
Speaker
I want big fatty daddy 11 to keep shooting you because of the way that you keep saying it. But that's it. fuck After multiple, multiple five AM wakeups playing it, I finally got the platinum and then it was Saturday afternoon, May 4th. I'd finished Bad Batch and I jumped back into AC3. And I put my headphones on, I jumped back into the game and there wasn't 17,000 idiots yelling in my ears. I've never felt so zen playing a video game. I had the best weekend after that. Like I'm very grateful to everyone who helped me achieve that platinum. I'm very grateful for all the people who stayed up past the time. They needed to go to sleep. They'd already finished the game, whatever they had to do. But.
02:42:33
Speaker
God, they just never shut the fuck up. It's funny. I was only, and I think we might've talked about this pod on Jesus, keep drinking Pete. We might've talked about this on the podcast before you can carbon date people based on their fucking PSN name. So if they don't have a bunch of ridiculous punctuation and all numbers in their name, you know, they were born in our era because we were the original. kind of PlayStation crew. There were some sessions I played that I suddenly got eight frame requests from these like- Yeah, but there's always like 11 digits in their fucking name. And then you check their profile and they have, this is like, no game is completed. Not a single one is completed, but everything is like, and you're just like, oh cool, your children, your children playing. I'm actually not going to add you to my PSN because I'm a 30 plus adult.
02:43:30
Speaker
dan i don't think i dance pear and name Dan's name is a bit of an exception because he put numbers in it for a reason, but like, I've got no numbers in my name. Neither do I. Because we built our PlayStation name, because it's got to be globally unique across the entire spectrum. yeah yeah we We built them long enough ago that you didn't need to add a number on the end. But these days, there is no kid who is in their late teens, who's not really a kid, but you know, from our perspective, it is. They are. um There's no kid in their late teens who does not have numbers in their name or and or wacky punctuation.
02:44:12
Speaker
You can, you can date them pretty quick. You can age them pretty quickly. I get what you're saying. Yeah. Online. Hey, but that said, the minute I meet someone whose name is Gondora and Jedi underscore two, I will beat them to their living breath. Yeah. We're going to marry them or kill them. Yeah. I'll kill them instantly. That could only be one.
02:44:37
Speaker
That can only be. Anyway, so I am winning son. I got a double platinum on the weekend. Um, I never thought that I would get the platinum for battle front one. I am very grateful for everyone who helped me, but there was also, I do need to give myself some credit. There wasn't a amount of skill. Those single player missions were fucking horrendous. Um, finding that sweet spot where you could, you could hide and it wasn't necessarily camping. It was literally, it was strategic. It's like, no, I'm setting up a defensible position. Um, and I need to do this. And it was an hour long gameplay for 15 waves of.
02:45:16
Speaker
It's fucking brutal, man. Like, but it's, ah it's an endurance test. Yeah. And I, I, it's up there with some of my greatest achievements. It's a 0.3% platinum. Wow. Like I'm fucking proud of it. And, and to get the platinum on May 4th with a snow speeder speeder taken down 80, 80, 80 cable. Yeah. As I was getting the fucking shit shot out of me as well in that match, cause that fucks up the mini game. Like. I don't think you guys realize that took six hours.
02:45:50
Speaker
That was, I got off at 5 AM. I did that at like 11, 11 AM. Jasper was sitting there the whole time being like, what the fuck is wrong? My neighbors heard me like six doors down as I finally got it. While the missus is overseas, it's the only time you could have achieved this platinum. It was a perfect confluence. Absolutely. No, this is the whole thing. Cause I was getting, I was seeing alarms for 5 AM to wake up, to play this fucking game. She never would have let that slide. Never would have let that slide. Yep. Yep. Anyway. I think that's a good note to end on. It is good. We kept this on the treehouse. Everyone gain well, be well, watch well, do well, do everything. Except, except watch Revel Moon too. Don't do that. Oh, don't do that. Respect well. Respect yourself well. Thanks for listening. Excellent. Bye. Good night. Thanks guys. ah Bye now. Bye.
