jobomb17: it's It's too bad, but... But you know what? We did make the best of it, and and we... i say it every year but we we learned a lot and and we know what kind of footage we need to get i mean You know, by now you guys have seen Top Dog.
jobomb17: We had a ton and ton and ton of footage to work with the top dog. It makes it real easy to put a good episode together when you got all the right footage. so

jobomb17: We're gonna... We're going to have some good stuff. So look looking forward to season three, but yeah, season two, I think all things considered went very well. and continue growing the channel and growing the platform and I mean, we ended season two with 1500 subscribers.
jobomb17: I think we got. 6 ,500 or something, 6 ,300, something like that now. so it's growing still growing and and hopefully we have the same burst we had last year where i think uh

jobomb17: I think last December. the ah the view count on the channel went up by like... 8x or something like that because once the snow started flying i think people started watching snow content and youtube algorithm picked it up and started recommending it so

jobomb17: hopefully it'll happen again uh this or for season two

jobomb17: But then I guess what... While we're talking about it, are we willing to spill the beans on the plan for season three, at least least a little bit of it?

jobomb17: so One thing you hear me talk about a lot, I know i know ah you two guys do too, is everything we do is based on the feedback we get. It's the direct messages, it's the surveys, it's the events, it's the...

jobomb17: chatter the back channel it's all this stuff and and one thing we keep hearing is like Hey, we love Storm Jason, but man, summertime is not. It's not it. You know, quit quit putting out more episodes in the summertime.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Yep.
jobomb17: or We're busy. or You know, we want a break from snow. and whatever and you know so we're sitting back thinking okay how do we Beep. intrigue and interest.
jobomb17: and keep people engaged, but not you know not release any episodes for that long of a period of time.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Yep.
jobomb17: So. What we're going to do for season three is add two more episodes on. So we're going to do two bonus episodes that are going to release during the winter of 2027 so they'll release early in 2027 so like
The SnowJobs Podcast: Mm hmm.
jobomb17: shortly after assuming el nino doesn't eat all our snow and we can film right we're going to launch Two bonus episodes. um uh in the winter of 27, right after we film them. Then there's going to be a longer break through the spring and summer, give people a break from snow.
jobomb17: and then we'll start launching season three episodes in the fall so starting in september uh september all the way through the holidays we'll launch episodes through the wintertime, what people are asking for.
The SnowJobs Podcast: It's totally going to work better. Totally going to be.
jobomb17: Yeah.
The SnowJobs Podcast: I'll be the first one to say. After coming out of last winter, which is not a winter we normally have where we're working every two to three days for months on end. The last thing I wanted to do was watch any snow content.
The SnowJobs Podcast: And that's kind of our whole business. Like, I mean, that's kind of what we do.
jobomb17: Yeah.
The SnowJobs Podcast: I didn't want to talk snow. I didn't want, I had to like reboot. and uh and yeah it wasn't a fun couple of months because it was kind of like uh Being... you know I wasn't being forced, but...
The SnowJobs Podcast: my heart was not in it the same as it is like on the ramp up. Like now, like, all right, let's go. Like, let's, let's get this. We're, we're getting ready.
jobomb17: Ciao.
The SnowJobs Podcast: You needed a break. And I can completely understand other guys needed a break.
jobomb17: Yep.
RICK JAMES: Mm hmm.
jobomb17: Yeah, so it's good to get that feedback and I'm glad we came up with a structure that that hopefully uh Kind of does both. It keeps people engaged, get get them a couple quick hit episodes in the winter.
jobomb17: um right after we film them and and and then. You know, we'll keep posting content through the spring and summer, just reels and stuff like we have done, you know. and keep growing the channel and the platform and because again The main purpose here is we want to entertain snow guys but we also want to get non -snow people watching this stuff so they understand what it takes to do what we do in the snow industry.

jobomb17: so keep momentum going that way and then in the fall when people start getting their plows out and getting stuff ready and getting contracts signed we'll we'll have new episodes coming out every every month

jobomb17: all the way from Alaska, all the way out to Maine. So he pretty much covered.

The SnowJobs Podcast: looked a little different than season one. it's It's because these guys were not prepared to have to do that, and I think... Being that they've never done this before and they got this thrown in their lap last second and they were under the gun constantly, you know, I think they did a phenomenal job. And, you know, you got to give credit where credit's due. They did the job they were asked to do. And otherwise, we were sunk.

jobomb17: Yeah. no they this they they They stepped up and took the ball and don't forget too, they didn't. they didn't capture any of this footage so they they just had hard drives with randomly scattered footage to deal with too so It wasn't just editing.

How has the reception been over the summer? You've done a bunch of events. It's been a lot of places, even stuff that we haven't been to.

jobomb17: Yeah, we're in.

jobomb17: we're in We're in the middle of the Phantom launch tour. We've been all over the country and we got a bunch more to do yet. and yeah i mean the reception's been insane i i don't it's been a long time since i launched a new product obviously going back to early VSI days, 2016 -15. Um,
jobomb17: And this is you know just far beyond anything I've ever... been a part of in terms of a product launch. And I don't know what what normal is, but I don't think this is normal. I mean, it's...

jobomb17: It's... ah It's... we we we can't build We can't build enough plows. I wish we could. um But there's there's just more demand than supply. And it's, you know, it's it's September now, but we were already scratching our heads in August going like, how do we figure out how to build more plows faster?
jobomb17: And it's not that we weren't prepared. It's just we weren't prepared to have this many orders this early because. we have all this historical data and you know snow guys they wait till the last minute to buy equipment not all of them but some do because they're waiting on contracts and uh
The SnowJobs Podcast: Yeah. Especially big ticket stuff.
jobomb17: ah So. So, you know, we're looking at historical data thinking like, wow, you know, August, you know, we don't really get many orders until.
RICK JAMES: Yeah.
jobomb17: september they start rolling in october gets really busy and then really 80 % of our sales happen after Equip Expo, which is the third week. third week of October. So historically, that's when... 80 % of our sales happen. wellt If 80 % of our sales happen, after Equip Expo this year.
jobomb17: we're in trouble because we ain't gonna have enough because we're we're just that far ahead this year and and it's because it's It's because we're touring all over. It's because of the soft launch program that you guys are both a part of. It's all the feedback that's gotten to the market. it's you know, a lot of people that have run other products that say this one's better and And obviously we we put our name behind it and put our our service and care behind it. and That helps too, but. Yeah, it's it's been humbling to...
jobomb17: to see the reception that we've gotten and and the team has worked insanely hard i mean they they're traveling they're busting their butts our manufacturing people are are working our you know our facility's not air conditioned it's been a hot summer they're working out there welding it's 110 degrees it's uh

jobomb17: well and then it's it's our old vsi building you know we we we used to be able to crank sprayers out of there like crazy but

jobomb17: What we've learned pretty quickly is. building the plow and building the sprayer ain't the same thing a sprayer is uh

jobomb17: A sprayer is big, but it's a little bit of fabrication with a lot of assembly and tank is you know the biggest bulk of it. When you're putting the a plow together, you got... you know hours and hours and hours of welding on every plow and once you weld it well first you gotta cut the steel then you gotta bend the steel then you gotta
The SnowJobs Podcast: Oh shit, yeah.
jobomb17: weld the steel and then you got to send it to powder coating which we don't do in -house yet because we got this small building and uh and then it's got to come back from powder coating and then it goes to our other facility where we assemble it so we've got two buildings over there now but Yeah, it's it's not enough space and not enough time, but we're cranking them as fast as we can, and we'll we'll get a lot out. I mean, we are going to get a lot out. but The demand is double what we expected it to be, just just being honest.

If you've ever used another. type of plow you can you can see the difference right there like you can you know You can't fake that. So is i I thought the demand was going to be pretty high.

jobomb17: similar to what the demand for the other product we sold was. uh, But. it is august well it's now september but august just ended and we're already at that volume right now.

jobomb17: Yeah, when you get salt from Egypt, you're really just paying for the freight, right? The salt the the salt's free, pay for the barge.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Yep. i know I mean, I think there is a so there is a slight tariff on it ah that that was instituted beginning of last year. But it's it hasn't gone up. It's the same.
The SnowJobs Podcast: It's the same as it was. so You know, it's been figured. It was honestly figured in the last. I think we were up. I think I said 20 bucks a yard. I said that on a couple episodes ago. I was actually wrong. I looked it up. It's actually $10 a yard.
The SnowJobs Podcast: um which We expected just because of the supply and demand, you know, salt shortage after last year, we expected the price to go up and and stay up.
jobomb17: So what do you what are you at for a ton?
The SnowJobs Podcast: Um, We are so I I'm buying the bulk treated So we're at 95 a ton for white. And then.
The SnowJobs Podcast: I think we're like. if i'm not making If I'm not mixing it myself, which after the first load of the year, we don't mix it ourselves. I think I'm 155 for.

jobomb17: Okay. Yeah, we I mean, we paid our high we we were able to get salt. We locked all ours in for this year, but we paid the highest price we've ever paid, $130 a ton. It is Brian Salt, so it's... cleaner, you know, it's it's white. Pure white, 99%. I don't know if it's solar or what, but it's brine salt.
jobomb17: Um, But even if we would have just bought bulk white, it still would have been 110. And we've we've never paid over 100 for salt.

I think it's in certain areas it's happening, but. it's not happening everywhere um I mean, here I know that the guys I talk to around here, everybody raised their price after last year, and the guys that I know do really good work. They said the customers didn't even blink and they went up by almost 20%.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Um, so I know the two, we had two contracts come out of three -year deals, and we we went up on both of those 25%, and neither one of them even blinked.
The SnowJobs Podcast: They just, you know, you you you write the little thing in there explaining the increase. Like, hey, listen. three years ago when you bid this contract. Diesel was fucking an average of 310 a gallon. Now it's 610 a gallon.
jobomb17: mm -hmm
The SnowJobs Podcast: You know, it's doubled. yeah and And once you, you know, they all know. Everybody watches the news. Everybody. you know buys groceries everybody knows prices are up on everything So they're you know It's not such a, oh, where did this come from? Why are you jacking us so much money?
jobomb17: Well, you just got to be careful because it. it has a ripple effect And it takes time.

jobomb17: but one of the biggest cost centers besides salt and diesel fuel in our businesses is labor. And when all of that other stuff goes up, labor. trails behind but if if gas and groceries are going like this
The SnowJobs Podcast: But it has to go up.
jobomb17: Labor's still back here, but it's coming. You need to plan ahead.

jobomb17: Right?

jobomb17: Because these people have to... pay for fuel in their vehicles and they got to pay for groceries and you know ah people aren't out there buying steel but steel hauls everything in this country so when steel doubles everything's going up

jobomb17: truckings trucking's going up, freight's up, steel's up. uh there's a trailing effect so that's why i've been telling guys like sure maybe 30 is too strong but steve i i think you're on it i think 15 to 25 is reasonable right now with how unstable things are
The SnowJobs Podcast: You have to Yeah, you have to. I don't know how how else to do it. And i I felt bad, honestly. Like when I was looking at the numbers that we had for the two renewals that were coming out of three years.
The SnowJobs Podcast: I know they're very loyal customers. They're very good people. um They love what we do. And, but I felt bad going that high. Like, you know, I'm like, man, we've had normal increases of five to 8%, you know, but this is. okay, your renewal is going to cost you 25.
The SnowJobs Podcast: that That could be you know kind of shocking to somebody. But they didn't even they didn't even flinch. But i when I was looking at the numbers, I'm like, this is... we can't We can't do 10%.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Like, that's not going to cut it.
jobomb17: and
The SnowJobs Podcast: Like that's not going to. have us in a good position. for what the increases are going to be, let's face it, by March.
jobomb17: Mm hmm.
The SnowJobs Podcast: You know, you're going to have another salt shortage. I'm sure that play is all the curtains already going up on on that theatrical production. So that that's all planned out and it's going to hit.
The SnowJobs Podcast: prices will go up on that. Who knows where the fuel's going? You know, last time I, last time I heard i checked or heard, there's still some like speed boats that are closing off the, uh, the straight there.
RICK JAMES: No.
jobomb17: Yep.
The SnowJobs Podcast: So no, no oils getting.
RICK JAMES: which makes makes no sense we don't even use that oil it's not even it's just a It's just way to gouge you.

The SnowJobs Podcast: We don't, but you know but it's a ripple, like Jordan said.
RICK JAMES: It's just it's just way to gouge, you know.
The SnowJobs Podcast: It's just a commodity and it's a ripple effect.

The SnowJobs Podcast: The rest of the world gets their oil from there. and You know, that's what happens. so um but yeah i didn't know how how else to do it but that like i said luckily for for us they were very accepting of it they didn't even flinch and they said you got to make money too Like we understand like you do impeccable. And I think it comes down to the work you do.
The SnowJobs Podcast: If you've never failed, if you do impeccable work and they become accustomed to that. they're going to find a way to pay you. you know If you're the guy that doesn't show up until four hours after the snow ended every time and leaves people walking through snow. and complaining.
The SnowJobs Podcast: You're not going to be able to to demand those kind of increases without. pushback or them shopping.
jobomb17: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I think it's Yeah. Okay. Maybe the message for me and what I've been telling guys is is like... When things get unstable, I think people do get nervous. and and and when they get nervous they drop their pricing as a reaction to being nervous because they're worried about losing sites and it is the exact opposite thing to do.
jobomb17: um because when you drop price when you get nervous because the market the market feels unstable. you you just cut your price and your margin already was going to be reduced because your increased costs.
jobomb17: And now you just, it's a double whammy. And that is how you go out of business. I mean, that's legitimately how you go out of business.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Yeah. 100%. 100%. And you've also cut the throat of the properties around you. you know that area there that's ah like you said it's a ripple effect

jobomb17: It was pretty eye opening. um after uh storm field they Bob Marks and I did a session on... our different snow businesses and we, you know, i I hadn't even thought about this, but I had a bunch of people telling me like, oh, it's the first time I've ever.
jobomb17: listen to a snow presentation and people actually talk pricing and per acre and per square foot. and I'm like, really? Why has no one ever done that? well I come to find out. there's like uh anytime you go to these conferences and i guess i've probably broken this rule before not realized it but there's rules you're not supposed to publish pricing because it's a liability issue
The SnowJobs Podcast: Yes. I knew it. Yes. Yeah. Uh -huh.
jobomb17: or price fixing.

jobomb17: right And I'm like, oh, well, I don't follow those rules.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Or... Or you don't want people to know how to actually come up with real numbers because if they came up with real numbers, they wouldn't take contracts from some of your biggest donors.
RICK JAMES: Yeah.

The SnowJobs Podcast: You know, that's. That that's a problem when you're giving real education and real numbers out that are going to help guys. They're not going to take a dog shit. price contract. from you know and
jobomb17: What? Well, the eye opening thing to me was, you know, it was it was cool at field day because there was a lot of new people. uh that have never never been there before.
jobomb17: And. I had guys coming up saying like, ah I didn't, I didn't know as possibly get 20 ,000 an acre. I'm like, well. on a half acre site. I mean, it's, you know, you can't. You can't do big site pricing on small sites. you You got a lot of time to dispatch and detail work and curb lines. and And. ah You know, and so I think it was eye opening for guys that. didn't really understand pricing just to at least get some generic numbers out there and that doesn't solve everything but Man.
RICK JAMES: Right.
jobomb17: We just got to get people understanding the value of this work. you know our our average on our retail portfolio is like 18 000 bucks an acre

RICK JAMES: Yeah. I had just had a call today from a guy who asked me what – I don't know what you're getting, but I said this is what I – I told him I'd get for a four and a half acre site. what I think he should get. And he was like, are you serious that much? I'm like.
RICK JAMES: Well, yeah, if they want service, it's going to be that much. I said. I mean, you gotta do what you gotta do, but... That's true. You could cut it some if you wanted to, but I don't know what they're. parameters are and he didn't either i'm like well you have to figure out their parameter they don't have any i'm like well you gotta either educate them or you gotta figure it out otherwise you're just going to go in blind and lose your ass.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Okay. And that's, I think a big, I think that's where the big disconnect comes in for a lot of guys, because the next question they ask you is you get 18 to 20 an acre for what level of service? There's only one fucking level of service for us.
The SnowJobs Podcast: It's zero low lowest tolerance possible.

The SnowJobs Podcast: if we're We're scraping every two inches. on That's what they're paying for. And we're still making a lot of money. doing, you know... Top level. Zero tolerance, as close as possible service.
The SnowJobs Podcast: But that you want to charge big boy money, you got to do big boy work.

The SnowJobs Podcast: That's it I mean your service has to reflect The Price. And you're not going to get the price without your service being you know top of the line.

The SnowJobs Podcast: And that's exactly what we told him. Like, you don't. have. triggers and scope or level of service is dictated to you by the customer. You tell them you're the professional. They're bringing you in. You tell them. what you're how you're going to service it.
