Yo. What's up, man? How are you? I'm good. I'm really good, actually.
Exciting Tax Returns and Travel Plans
00:00:41
Speaker
and That's so much good news today. You wouldn't believe it. Oh, shit. Why don't you tone it down a little bit, buddy? Blowing my ears off here.
00:00:49
Speaker
This is a little intense here for you. You drink it again? Yeah. Yes. This is good news, guys. ah No, I got my taxes back today.
00:01:02
Speaker
And for the first time in shit, I think 10 years, I'm actually getting money back. You lied. I did not lie, no.
00:01:12
Speaker
And not just a little bit, it's a lot. So, because it was one of those, it's a transitional year. So, yeah, it was. it's on ah yeah Yeah, I guess that could work out. that That's math enough in my brain.
00:01:25
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, that's exciting. going to pay for It's going to pay for our Italy trip in September. Oh, Lord. Italy? Yeah. ah You're really doing it, Dennis.
00:01:38
Speaker
I just got my Cabo hat off to you. He's wearing a Cabo hat. It's really, really, really Canadian, dude. It's like as colorful as my vest. It's not Canadian. It's Mexico. It's your heritage. no that The name is of my people, but that was bought off of ah of but it's a to walk white guy hat.
00:02:01
Speaker
It was hanging on a tent as you walked by getting off the plane. I could tell. No, I bought this at the resort. i was just Or the resort hat. Yeah. It's only two options.
00:02:12
Speaker
It was right next to the Nacho Libre Luchador masks.
00:02:19
Speaker
Yeah, i bought one of those too. Yeah, can imagine. It's the base. I love it. I wear it in bed.
00:02:34
Speaker
ah so how was your week?
Bathroom Downtime Jokes
00:02:36
Speaker
What's new with you? Nothing. I am probably the the most boringest person in the world this week. Not probably. Yeah.
00:02:45
Speaker
yeah Well, I mean, I can have fun all by myself normally, but it's it's been pretty uneventful over here. I know that makes for awesome podcasting and great storytelling, but I'm pretty sure I can yeah I'm pretty honest guy, but I might have to lie a little bit today just to kind of make up some some fun stuff.
00:03:03
Speaker
But I did read a fun fact right now as we were prepping for the show. Uh-huh. Did you know that the average man spends seven hours a year in the shitter just to find some peace and quiet?
00:03:20
Speaker
I don't believe it. I think it's much longer than seven hours. I was going to say, you must be the happiest dude on earth.
00:03:30
Speaker
I think that proportionally goes up if you have children. Oh my God. Yeah. My, my, my shooter time's down now that the kids are a little older, but yeah, for sure.
00:03:42
Speaker
i think that's, yeah, that's an understatement. Seven hours a year. That's like, I think i could, I could do that and A quarter. Yeah. That's like 14 sessions. That's it, dude. And if you bring your phone with you, forget about it. Oh, yeah.
00:03:59
Speaker
That's over. That's over. I'm just curious. Is anybody else ah so happy in their life they don't hide in the shitter? Let us know.
00:04:11
Speaker
And for how long? Yeah, and for how long? yeah When are you done and when do you leave? What's the delta? That's what we want to know. What's the over-under?
00:04:24
Speaker
and so So, shitters for silence? That's going to be the name of this episode. There you go. Good job. Every now and again you come up with one.
00:04:34
Speaker
Didn't you name last week's too? Yes. All by yourself? I did. didn't even get your input. That's so good. So this is such an equal contribution kind of thing here we got going. Dennis, beautiful.
Knife Forging Projects
00:04:50
Speaker
Did you do anything shop? Well, you did a little bit of shop related stuff because you came over yesterday and we forged. No, so saturdays Saturday. is it Yeah. Yeah. Saturday. Fucking retired people.
00:05:02
Speaker
Honestly, I have i have to If I'm not on the computer or like, I really have to check what day it is. Cause you're on the computer right now. I know. That's why I know what day it is.
00:05:15
Speaker
Yeah. No, Saturday. ah
00:05:20
Speaker
Yeah. I didn't get over there as early as I wanted to. Had some things i had to do in the morning. um But yeah, we got over. um hours was fucking tired. Last, last week was a recoup week from, from all the traveling. And again, back to more.
00:05:35
Speaker
awesome work stuff, long days and lot of things going on. But so i was kind of whooped on Saturday. But yeah, I got over to your house and you were forging some Damascus.
00:05:49
Speaker
but You were doing the dagger, huh? Well, I started before you got there. I was doing the butt cap for the big buoy. This is a little Damascus butt cap that I had to just kind of forge and make a little oval shape.
00:06:04
Speaker
So I was just finishing that up when you arrived. And then I was putting the, uh, the dagger in the, the last forge weld on the dagger. Yeah. So I had a couple of things that were obviously in, in some, some form of a Jared phase and, uh, through a, uh, I have no idea when we, so when I started that, like, I believe that I started it at your house one time and then we just ran out of time. or I vaguely remember it's been a few months. Yeah, it's been a while. I think maybe like work happened and I didn't get to it. Kind of like the ah railroad spike knife.
00:06:41
Speaker
Anyways, it was in my bag. I threw it in there. um Needed to be finished. And yeah, I got to it. meant And I'll tell you what, that was a really, really, really cool forging session for me because was...
00:06:55
Speaker
it was it was still kind of shaped. Uh, the tip was forged in, um it was pretty thick and, um, I just got, got busy working with it. And i must say that even though some time has passed since I was last forging, um, this was good. Uh, what is the word? Um,
00:07:20
Speaker
feedback now, like good refresher. I don't know. I'll think of it in a minute, but yeah, it was a good feeling to put it in. i i guess I was more saying, Hey, this is what I'm going to do.
00:07:34
Speaker
this is what I'm thinking. And then Dennis would kind of give me the nod. um And for the most part, you know, I was on the right track and it was really cool to see the metal do what I intended it to do.
00:07:45
Speaker
And for the most part, I mean, yeah there was so a lot of, um, you know probably some some areas where I was maybe going too hard in one place. or you know ah But yeah, for the most part, like the the process was was still there. i was seeing the next steps, making it do what I wanted to do. um And it came out pretty damn good.
00:08:07
Speaker
Yeah, it looks great. Yeah, i was I was really, really, really pleased with with it. I think we were just there about an hour. Oh, and then I got the...
Forging Mishaps and Humor
00:08:15
Speaker
Here's a funny thing, right? So I don't...
00:08:20
Speaker
I mean, I have currently right now, most of my interaction with people is that that aren't knife makers. Right. So if I tell somebody, hey, you know, oh, yeah, forged a knife this week. Oh, that's great. And then i'll I pulled back my ear because I showed my my war wound.
00:08:36
Speaker
I caught a piece of hot slag like right off the bat, too. um And it popped up. I got to tell this story. So Jared's hammering away, and all of a sudden he hammers.
00:08:47
Speaker
He looks down, and he starts doing this crazy dance. And I'm like, what? like that It's not unusual for Jared to break into dance for reason.
00:08:59
Speaker
Yeah. And then I'm like, is there are you swatting a fly? ah And then I realized that, yeah, you've got some hot slag behind the air.
00:09:11
Speaker
It was a trip because... Yeah, I was doing a of of a fancy dance. like It wasn't quite like a spider dance. like look at Like something was crawling on me. But the weird part was that i could obviously I felt it.
00:09:25
Speaker
But I got these new headphones that are they' arere called conduction headphones. So they don't actually sit over your ears. They kind of rest on in front of your ear on your cheekbone.
00:09:37
Speaker
And they use vibration. Yeah. But they sound pretty good. And so I was testing them out. So the whole time we were forging and stuff, I had music kind of low key playing in the back.
00:09:50
Speaker
But it wasn't it's not over your ears, so it's not ear protection. um But while that was happening, my I could feel the pain in my ear and then I could hear my hair sizzling.
00:10:04
Speaker
That's what was freaking me out. That's why it wasn't really like it it hurt that bad, but like I could hear this and I wasn't sure if I was melting the fucking the headphones that were kind of resting on the back or my hair was going. I figured out it was my, my hair, but um yeah, that sucked.
00:10:20
Speaker
So anyways, I'm telling handful of people, you know, Oh yeah, i was fortunate. I got hot steel, you know, flying over and it's burned my ear and I show them the back of my ear. Cause you were right. I, I,
00:10:33
Speaker
I couldn't see it until later that night, but it looked like somebody heated up the back of a ah pencil and just like plugged me in the back of the ear with It it was it pretty about that size, like perfect but size. like I can erase a pencil eraser.
00:10:47
Speaker
And, you know, I'd tell the story and I'd get a bunch of oohs and ahs and they're like, oh my God, you know. And then today i was talking to Brent. he said, don't be a bitch. And oh my God.
00:10:59
Speaker
And I was like, we were FaceTiming and I was kind of like, you know, like messing with the back of my ear and I'm like, man, this thing. but And he's like, oh my God, you pussy. And then he's like, I'm like, do you see it? You know? And he's like, bro. And he like puts his arms up and he's like, this is from the, this is from a swage blog. This is from this. I was like, all right, touche. All right. No one gives a shit. We all got fucking slag marks all over our arms, legs and feet and shit. Just showing how safe we actually are.
00:11:30
Speaker
Yeah. I got cuts all over my hands right now. Yeah. Yeah, cuts yeah laid yeah cuts say I get. But yeah, that was the slag thing. It's fairly new to me, so fuck off.
00:11:41
Speaker
Yeah. It's a war wound. I got still got one you know from from ah Hanging with Micah. So yeah, but I get it, guys. right I'm a bitch, and no one cares. Those are badges of honor.
00:11:56
Speaker
Stop your bitching. Yeah, it was cool. It's a good story, though. yeah But it's way more interesting to tell people that don't make knives. It sounds way cooler. Yes.
Solo Turkey Hunting and Interactions
00:12:07
Speaker
What did I? Oh, yeah. i went um I went hunting this week. First time in a couple of years I got hunting.
00:12:14
Speaker
i was surprised to hear that you go hunting by yourself. Why? ah just, don't know. i always I always think it's like a buddy system. No, not not turkey hunting.
00:12:27
Speaker
um I prefer to turkey hunt by myself because I feel like no one is quieter than me. So if I go with somebody else, i oh the only thing I hear is them making noise.
00:12:41
Speaker
And with Turkey, you got to be like fucking daredevil. like You got to be like super quiet, um very quiet, no movement, and just look with your eyes, not your head.
00:12:57
Speaker
so sounds Sounds riveting, dude. just It's really fun. You go out to the wild and just sit there and sit there? Yeah. That's great. And, well, it's very interactive. You're hearing turkeys. I was hearing like six turkeys gobble, and I'm calling.
00:13:17
Speaker
I'm being a female. I'm trying to. Oh, yeah. Tell me more. I'm trying to lure in the males. What's up, turkey? Gobble, gobble, gobble. No, no, only males gobble. What are the what do the chicks do, Dennis?
00:13:34
Speaker
If I had a turkey call, I'd do it. but You could make You could sound What is the, oh, yeah. Kind of, yeah.
00:13:47
Speaker
I could just see. You're not that, like, stealthy anymore, no matter what you think, right? I could just see you hiding in the bush, just, oh, yeah.
00:13:58
Speaker
I think the yeah vi Turkey Calling Federation is going to give you hate mail. um So anyway, back to my story. Yes, there was lots of lots of calling back and forth, but they just would not come in.
00:14:17
Speaker
After opening weekend, they've had enough ah hunters on that public land. so i think they I could have one with the car on the way out, though. that's that That's got to be a little irritating. Yeah, if i i if I had my shotgun beside me, I could have shot it out the window. there was ah It was a jake, but um yeah.
00:14:39
Speaker
But it was fun. I saw a coyote. it saw a bunch of rabbits. um Yeah, coyote was like 40, 30 yards from me. oh He didn't even see me.
00:14:51
Speaker
You're a ninja, dude. ah Hey, I was... All those damn wakasakis you've been making. I was well hidden. But it was fun. It was really fun, and I'm glad I went.
00:15:03
Speaker
And, yeah, I might even go next week. We'll see.
00:15:11
Speaker
I'm happy for you. and Inside, I'm this motherfucker.
00:15:17
Speaker
but I'm happy someone's doing it, right? and and that's that's That's where my my heart wants to to be. either yeah Actually, once it starts getting warmer, I'm thinking, oh, I'm just going to take the jet skis out. Or take the jet ski out and go fishing on the Delta. All right, now you're just being dick.
00:15:35
Speaker
yeah yeah That's a little funny.
00:15:41
Speaker
I was getting gas. I think it was maybe Monday morning or something like that. um What day is Monday. Oh, this must have been... I don't know when this was, though.
00:15:51
Speaker
It wasn't this morning. I don't think it was. Anyway, some dude was pulling up... ah It was early in the morning. Some dude was pulling up to the gas pump, and he had a truck and a big bass boat. And I don't know. just couldn't help myself. And I was just like, hey...
00:16:04
Speaker
just Just checking, man. You want you want to switch? was a work day, assume. Yeah, it was a work day. He's like, yeah, no, not I'm not interested. And I'm like, god I don't fucking blame you, Dick. Whatever. Yeah.
00:16:21
Speaker
yeah That's funny. I got to take the jet skis in next week for some service. And then they'll be ready to go. Nice. Nice. yeah So hunting, that's great. That's that's super cool.
00:16:33
Speaker
I think that just tells me you have major control issues that no one knows about, and that you've got to go hunting by yourself, but that's cool. Well, I don't know any, well, I guess I could take Parker, but yeah, that's not happening.
00:16:44
Speaker
Talk about people that can't shut the fuck up. I was going to thank you for saying it. Yeah, that's, I've taken him a few times. We've come close to getting him a turkey, but no.
00:17:00
Speaker
All right. What i what I was thinking is funny because ah coming back. um So I hunt in at
Workshop Skill Exchange and Feedback
00:17:10
Speaker
red Hills, which you probably don't know where that is. It's like 120 on the way to Yosemite.
00:17:15
Speaker
Okay. and I go through Oakdale and when I'm driving through Oakdale, I'm like, Hey, Kelly's around here. i should stop by and say hi to her. And, but it was like,
00:17:28
Speaker
like nine in the morning and I wasn't going to just drop in. And then Rick calls me today and says, he's going to Kelly's tomorrow.
00:17:39
Speaker
I'm like, Oh, maybe I'll tag along. And he said, sure. No way. Tag along Tyrell and find himself. You're going to say that. So yeah, I'm going to Kelly's tomorrow. This is Kelly Vermeer Vela for everybody else.
00:17:54
Speaker
Yes. Um, who is, I think you've got it. I don't think I, if I didn't talk about it, you have to have her show you those handle scales. Hopefully she has some that she has a, a friend that's making these scales that like that glow in the dark.
00:18:12
Speaker
It's like a manzanita or something. I had told her i had some, a bunch of manzanita that I would, a couple pieces that I would give to her to make those things.
00:18:23
Speaker
If the, if the, her friend was interested, they're, they're dope. They're really dope. They, Just beautiful. And they she put them under the the the black light or whatever, and they they light up super cool.
00:18:34
Speaker
Because i was say oddly, I was like, you know hey, yeah, yeah. when she Because she was in Texas. And I wanted to, I was like, yeah, we got to get up there. I was like, forget Dennis. I'm just going to hit you up. oh we' going And then now, look at this.
00:18:48
Speaker
That's cool. That's awesome, man. She's got an amazing shop.
00:18:54
Speaker
that That sounds fun. Maybe I'll call in sick.
00:18:59
Speaker
Yeah, because asked Rick what they were doing, and he's like, oh, they're just going to trade skills back and forth, a few techniques. they would Each of them want to learn from each other. I'm like, oh, sounds like a free class to me.
00:19:11
Speaker
but There you go. So, yeah, that's cool. Yeah, that's really cool. Yeah, that's we we should definitely.
00:19:21
Speaker
Too close not to be hanging out, that's for sure. Yeah, she's like 40 minutes from us, maybe 45. For me? or More an hour, yeah. Modesto is 45 minutes. She's about 15, 20 past that.
00:19:36
Speaker
I guess. Anyways, it's close. It's fucking close. Yeah, but don't go through Modesto. Modesto's the other direction.
00:19:48
Speaker
you don know know what you're talking about. i do, but it's all right. Um, but so I was getting getting together a few things, um, that I was going to bring tomorrow. And one of them was that dagger that I forged.
00:20:02
Speaker
So I wanted to at least get a look at it. And remember I told you I was a little, was a little worried that it, so the, the pattern on this dagger, it's, um, it's like the C's turned into S's like really, really high layer count C's.
00:20:22
Speaker
And then made into S's and then those are stacked on top. So it should be this snaky S. The problem is I'm like, I don't know, OCD about something being very symmetrical for a dagger.
00:20:36
Speaker
And this is like, kind of like a snaky S down the dagger. And I just don't know how I feel about it. I'll have to The way we were looking at like yeah it, that, that point has to end like,
00:20:52
Speaker
perfectly in order for it to like work out i don't think that's going to be it really i need it that's why i'm bringing it because i'm want to show it to kelly and and rick and say like do you think the s is purposeful enough that it's not trying to be symmetrical or does it look like like a fucked up symmetrical like a fucked up pattern that's because to me like it's definitely not um it needs to like almost link huh in order to, it doesn't come, it doesn't come in yet in and out good enough. Right.
00:21:30
Speaker
Yeah. And it's, I think, I think I'm just going to go with it and just make it like the pattern itself is phenomenal.
00:21:40
Speaker
Yes. I agree. When you see it, you'll be even more impressed. Cause there's a couple of places that it really stretched out, like really cool. Okay. Um, so I'm excited about the pattern. and But, and it's already in dagger shape.
00:21:54
Speaker
So it's not like I can make a buoy or something out of it. Plus I have this plan to make it a keyhole. So the only other thing I was thinking of is like, maybe I can make it like a bayonet or something. Okay. But um yeah, I don't, i so I want to make it a key and there's like a keyhole bayonet. That sounds wacky.
00:22:17
Speaker
um Bayonet needs guard and it's, So I think I'm just going to go with it on the dagger, but I'll, I'll send you a video or a picture of it tomorrow and you can all right see, ah I'll get their take on it too.
00:22:31
Speaker
Cool. But yeah, had a very productive couple of days. Got that done. I'm almost done that big nickel storm buoy knife. Okay.
00:22:42
Speaker
So now that I did the butt cap and I did some more work on that, now I just have, if I wasn't going to Kelly's, I could probably finish it in the next day or two. Um, maybe even Wednesday.
00:22:53
Speaker
I'll see. Cause it's just a bunch of sanding and shit. I have a class Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, uh, Damascus class, double Damascus class. So, um, but I'm looking forward to putting some of the stuff I learned with Marekko to use.
00:23:11
Speaker
Same, same student. Yeah. Same student, uh, four day class. Cool. So he's doing a mosaic and then, um, a kumai.
Teaching Damascus Techniques
00:23:21
Speaker
So yeah, I think we're going to get, it's the kumai I think we're going to get a little inventive with.
00:23:27
Speaker
Um, we're just doing one of my standard mosaic patterns for the mosaic class, but then I got some ideas for the, uh, the kumai. Well, cause we've got two days. it doesn't two days is a long time to do kumai.
00:23:42
Speaker
going to have enough steel. Am I going to have enough steel? You have enough steel for the class? Yeah, I get all my steel from Maritime Knife Supply. I was going to say, because I know where you can go to get it.
00:23:56
Speaker
Yeah. ah Go see Lawrence, the owner of Lawrence Lake in Washington. um Yeah. Founder. yeah If you need... hand of material, abrasives, steel, tooling, go get it at Maritime Knife Supply.
00:24:13
Speaker
I think if you're the first guy to skinny dip in the lake, they name it after you. That's how he did it. He free balled up in in the Washington area. And then they kicked him out of the U.S. and they sent him to the opposite side of the country in Canada. That's correct. Yep, that's right.
00:24:29
Speaker
Well, he said there's another lake in Alberta that's named after him. so also kind of on the West Coast. Yeah, he's a... Cereal skinny dipper.
00:24:43
Speaker
Oh, that's, uh, yeah. Anything you need. Speaking of Lawrence, he also, um, put a few more folder things up and he, I sent him couple of weeks ago. I sent him the list of like, Hey, what you need for, um, at least a liner lock and like, Hey, you need this for basically a listing of all the things you need and what the sizes and what they're for.
00:25:08
Speaker
You know, you need this drill for this. You need this reamer for this. So that's up on his site that you can download for $0. Just put it in your cart and take a look.
00:25:20
Speaker
And that'll help you guys out if you're interested in folders. That's very cool. Yeah. It's a very cool idea. Yeah, I hope so. I should put on my website for $0 too, just to.
00:25:34
Speaker
I just might do the same in case you're on my website. You can look there too. Cool. So very cool. Very cool. Yeah. Lawrence ah is also a knife maker. That's why he has everything you need.
00:25:49
Speaker
knows what you need. And if you don't know where to get it, just ask him and he'll, he'll track it down. That's the kind of duty is it's the awesome service that he brings. But, uh, he sent me a video.
00:26:01
Speaker
Um, cause he's in a similar boat, a lot of work going on. Um, and he said, no, I took, took some time off on Friday and headed in the forge and started some Damascus and was sending me some videos and progress pics. And ah was super happy for him. So, Oh,
00:26:19
Speaker
Nice. Yeah. Came up with some S-E-S's as well. how Some S's. His S pattern was very S-E.
00:26:30
Speaker
S-E. He's an S-A. S-A.
00:26:36
Speaker
That's a different kind of a
00:26:41
Speaker
Yeah. so For all your knife making needs, go to Maritime Knife Supply and tell them the boys at Triple T sent you. And while we're at it, if you need some steel for knife making and you want some of the fancy steel around, fans should go to Baker Forge and Tool and get yourself some of their fancy steel.
00:26:59
Speaker
And this week, if I can find it, Riptide Double Drop. um And it is probably my favorite pattern that they do. um the The Riptide one, which has like the black...
00:27:15
Speaker
in the center uh with the copper on either side very cool so go get yourself some riptide from baker forging tool ah use the app ah to get access to their early early drops or early access to their drops and while you're at it pick up some gator piss and for the premium etchant for that steel that's right Soon to be Gator Piss Max for your stainless that they're coming out with. And um what's the other stuff
Promotions for Knife-Making Suppliers
00:27:51
Speaker
Heavy. heavy Heavy. Yes. For those dark non 15 and 20 steels that you want to just make dark. That's right. Yeah. Use the discount code triple T 10.
00:28:04
Speaker
Get some. 10. T T 10. Do it. Nope. ten do Yeah. Hey, there's a chance that Tuesday morning there may be some because they said this is a massive drop.
00:28:22
Speaker
So a little more than the average on there. So if you want that OG Riptide ripple roll. Yeah. Hit pause on this podcast, but make sure you come back yeah and go buy some Baker Forge steel and then come back and listen.
00:28:38
Speaker
Yep. Okay. Now that you're back. and Welcome back, all four of you.
00:28:46
Speaker
But you better do it you better do it quick because that is their most popular pattern. so Yes. Even though there's a lot, it'll go quick. That's right. You can get it at Maritime Night Supply too.
00:28:58
Speaker
Yeah. For all these ah the Canadias.
00:29:03
Speaker
Cool. What did you do for Triple T this week? I didn't watch it. this Thanks for your support. now I'm so sorry. ah This week I showcased the Sandshark Buddy holders ah because Kyle sent me a new set that had updated screws or bolt whatever the little twisty knob things on them.
00:29:30
Speaker
um So I figured I would do a a video on those because I only actually ever did one littlely a little la ah Instagram video and short on them. I never actually did a full video and you know wanted to show those off and show people how cool those are, along with, of course, getting a little air time little more airtime on the Sandshark and showing people the machining again.
00:30:00
Speaker
But those things are awesome. They let you take all of the the stress off your hands and your arms from like holding the stick and the machine moving against the stick. You just drop the stick in the holder and there's no back and forth pressure on your arms.
00:30:16
Speaker
So, uh, just downward. Yeah. Yeah. But Kyle, let me know that he had, uh, I think it was the next day he had like six orders for, the buddy holders.
00:30:29
Speaker
So, uh, he reached out and, uh, thank me for that. So, yeah. um But that's great. I love to see ah love to see him making some business. And, yeah, it helps us all.
00:30:42
Speaker
So, yeah, go get yours from KH Daily Knives um and look for, just do a search for Sandshark and you'll probably find them. Yep. Do it.
00:30:54
Speaker
So I got a call from Mr. Marekko the other day. Yeah.
00:31:03
Speaker
Because when we talked about, you know, there's one thing that I was, i was really, know, like I said, there was a bunch of gems ah from that week, but there was one, one Damascus process that I was very excited about.
00:31:17
Speaker
And I had talked about it on the podcast last week and Marekko heard that. And I think he was, you know, before I left, I asked Marekko, sat him down and said, is there anything you don't want me to do a video on or whatever?
00:31:31
Speaker
And he said, no, no, no, everything's cool. Just, you know, make sure credit me. And of course, and I think when he heard me, my excitement and me talk about it on the podcast, his only, know, he's like, yeah, but I haven't, this is him i saying it.
00:31:45
Speaker
I haven't even made that pattern or that technique myself yet. Um, so he was like, oh, maybe I don't want you to do video on it yet. But, um, he did mention like, Hey, why don't we just, why don't we do it together?
00:32:00
Speaker
I'm like, yeah, absolutely. So, uh,
00:32:08
Speaker
that's a good callback.
00:32:12
Speaker
So, uh, we'll see, maybe he's going to come down for a visit and, uh, we'll get him in front of the camera and, uh, we'll get him in a video we'll make this pattern and that'll be the showcase for this pattern nice um so that that sounds like a better deal yeah yeah for both of you for both of you for sure absolutely i'd love have maracco in the shop yeah so uh yeah i'm i told he's got an open invitation open invitation to come down yeah and no call back needed maracco no call back you're welcome
00:32:46
Speaker
We'll give you the, oh yeah, just for for free. You don't got to go. no i didn't just But I mean, honestly, I'm probably not ready to do a video on that. I'll be so busy ah until after blade show anyway. so it's not I'm just going to do that video.
00:33:03
Speaker
So, but yeah, think that'd be cool.
Travel Plans for Blade Show
00:33:08
Speaker
Speaking of blade show, what else did we do Saturday? I don't know. What did we do Saturday? We booked our flight. Oh yeah, we did. We did. This is like the cheapest flight we've ever gotten, bro. I have bad news for you. I texted you. You didn't text me back. So maybe you didn't, didn't, you didn't get it or you just ignored me like you always do.
00:33:28
Speaker
But, uh, I got mine for $200 cheaper. So what was the total? And did you get to pick your seat? Yep. Wow. 430 bucks.
00:33:40
Speaker
Oh yeah. That's what I got. No. Yeah. No. $430. Mine was like $450. I
00:33:51
Speaker
i bought two, remember? I bought one for me and one for Parker. That's why mine was so much more. No. Yeah. No. You got yours for $420? Yeah. Yeah.
00:34:05
Speaker
yeah yeah mine was like And I got insurance on one. Yeah. Because I'm not sure about my flight home. Yeah, they were they were both under 200 bucks. Yeah, so you got two one-way tickets?
00:34:17
Speaker
Yes. Okay. No, the return flight, I mean, mine was a little more, um but dependly you might have got a different return. Yeah, I'm going to to North Carolina. Yeah, the Sunday return is what was cost more.
00:34:34
Speaker
But still, I mean, for $4.50 or whatever it was, that's cheap. I mean, we paid, well, the one year we paid like $1,100. No, no, that was Maker Camp.
00:34:45
Speaker
No, it was both. It was both. Yeah. The Maker's Camp was was your payback to me for not pulling the trigger. Because we had a decent we had a decent deal on on flights, and i was like, ba no, no, no. And then we went back. It was like double. Yes. Yes.
00:35:04
Speaker
that That was my bad. But the maker's camp was all you, mister. I'm not going. Oh, that one. Yeah. That's because we did the last minute thing. But yeah. um But yeah, that's cool. So we got those.
00:35:18
Speaker
Yeah. But i was it it was weird because you were you. I don't know what you got ears on, but I went straight through the the Delta app. And when I was doing round trip, they were like three, 400 bucks a piece.
00:35:30
Speaker
Yeah. Oh, each trip. Yeah. Yeah. Like $300 plus. Wow. And then like the the coming back was like almost $400. And I was like, what the... So I didn't quite figure that out.
00:35:44
Speaker
um But I did the one-ways and they were cheaper. I don't get that. That doesn't make any sense to me. So I was on Travelocity. And okay.
00:35:55
Speaker
So this is this is the fucking scam that the airlines are pulling now. So now... I looked it up and I could not believe this. It was $240 that return flight.
00:36:11
Speaker
When I showed it to you, $240 return from Atlanta. You just couldn't pick your seats. And it's not like you could pay like, cause a lot of times you can pay like $50 to, you know, no, no, no, no. You had to go to the next, this is their scam now.
00:36:30
Speaker
You have to go to the next one. It was $130 extra to pick seats. And that's what brought it to four hundred and um to $430 a piece.
00:36:46
Speaker
Because I was like, no way, I'm picking seats. That's fucking ridiculous. so one Because I'm not doing a five-hour flight in a middle seat. Especially Red Eye.
00:36:58
Speaker
Yep. So, well yeah. Agreed. But anyways. Yeah. But, I mean, for whatever, $820 for, or sorry, $840 for Parker and I, that's pretty good.
00:37:14
Speaker
Yeah. We already got our hotel. So, yeah, we're all set for Blade Show. Yeah. I'm stoked. Yeah. And I'm actually feeling pretty good about Blade Show as far as progress. um Like I said, I'll be done that buoy in the next couple of days.
00:37:28
Speaker
Then I got, I'm just, I'm trying to finish the dagger this month. So I got whatever, three weeks or something, almost four weeks to do the dagger. and And then I'm going to do, then I got May to do the three folders that I want to do.
00:37:48
Speaker
Nice. So yeah, I think I'm on track for what I want to get done. Very cool. Which makes one of us.
00:37:57
Speaker
Yeah. You got to get that. that, um, you got the handle. You got to get that one done. Yep. Are you close on that one? I just got to do the handle.
00:38:08
Speaker
Glue it up. You just glue it, right? That's it. Yeah. That's it. Don't you're shaping to do, or we are you two shaped it already? No, no, no, no. I just got, I do the handle and then glue up. That's it. Okay. Yeah.
00:38:18
Speaker
Yeah. So yeah, I'll do it. i do I got a couple more things that I'm going to, that are almost there that I'm going to, I'll finish up. So, Hopefully after this weekend, this will be pretty much the last thing that I really have going that'll be in the way. I got a golf tournament on Saturday and then Sunday. i think Jeff and I are going to get together and make some more progress on the press build.
00:38:48
Speaker
um But I going to get in the shop probably Thursday, I'm thinking um and this week, just a couple hours in the in the evening. And I'll do some stuff on Sunday too. So forcing myself to get out there and do, I hate to say that I'm forcing myself, but I'm i'm just, I'm going to make the time and no excuses to, to get out there and get some progress on something, you know, but there was a while back where I would be like, you know, just an hour a day, hour a day. If I could just, you know, that adds up to seven hours in the week, if that's all you do. And it always turns into more.
00:39:25
Speaker
you know, but just, just getting out there. So, um, but yeah, so that's the plan this week. Um, and then hopefully that, uh, that gets, gets the bug going. Cause after forging with Micah, I got that feather billet too, that he's supposed to be sending.
00:39:45
Speaker
Um, so, and I want to forge that too. Um, forge the tip in and are, you know, rough to shape anyways, and figure that out. Um, so,
00:39:57
Speaker
Yeah, that'd be good. And yeah, like even if getting out there is the hardest part, you know, maybe you should set yourself some goals. You want to get this done by this time. And yeah, I did that last week last because Thursdays is kind of like my, my freest day, but then I didn't get out of the office until like fucking seven o'clock. So shit happens.
00:40:21
Speaker
Yeah. But it is what it is. But this week is where we're getting back in the groove and we'll be, Be on track here. Get after it.
00:40:32
Speaker
You know who's getting after it? Tell me. Frank, two bastards. He's always getting after it. I was getting after it with my fat peen this weekend. i was beating my peen all for like an hour straight.
00:40:46
Speaker
In fact, you we needed a fatter peen for a little while. Remember you were using that skinny peen and we needed a fatter peen? Yep. I had to call in the big dog. Yeah. you know there's There's the right peen for every scene, but it generally, you know fat's where it's at so
00:41:04
Speaker
at. After all of that, go if you need a high-quality hammer, go check out Frank at Two Bastards Texas Smithy and Supplies.
00:41:16
Speaker
ah He will hook you up. He's got all the peens. um but Go get yourself a cross-peen, straight-peen, or just a regular rounding hammer. He's got them all. yeah ah talk Tell him the boys the Triple T sent you.
00:41:29
Speaker
Yeah. and And he's got the Lost Bastards hammering happening and ah in a little bit as well. Oh, yeah. Oh, isn't Texas Select this weekend? Or was this weekend? I think it was this weekend. This past weekend, yeah. remember seeing a bunch posts about it. So I know he was there. So hopefully yeah hopefully the boys did well at that show.
00:41:51
Speaker
Yeah. A few guys there. Was Micah at that show? Yeah, he was supposed to be doing... Oh, no, he's going to be at this one. Yeah, so the loss. He did not do this one. He had a like ah ah wedding or something to go to, so um he didn't he didn't make this one. But yeah, May 3rd in Gainesville, Texas, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Limited tickets available, but yeah, you can see Micah Dunn do a forging a chef knife demo. Eric Rivers will be out there.
00:42:24
Speaker
um neil warren's gonna be sculpting handles and uh sarah hubbard and terry dunn are doing uh nice glue up for multi-piece scales too so looks like a fun day there um out at the the lost bastards hammer in um may 3rd 9 a.m to 4 p.m if you're out there go get it very cool yeah

00:44:16
Speaker
And not one of us said, ain't it grand to have a fat peen in your hand? and Whoa, that's criminal. Yeah. Well, that was one of my two things. Thank you. All right. The other thing is, speaking of Blade Show, um I'm thinking I'm going to do the scavenger hunt again this year.
Scavenger Hunt Ideas for Blade Show
00:44:42
Speaker
I think everyone had a good time doing that last year. So, uh, yeah, I'm either that or I come up with something different, but, uh, I don't know if I'm going to do like the letters and like the track stuff down. I, maybe I'll come up with a different idea.
00:44:58
Speaker
So, uh, if any of you had any bright ideas, I'm all ears for something fun. It's gotta be search a roam around blade show ask, but, uh, you got any ideas, drop me a,
00:45:12
Speaker
Drop me a line. And I know that doesn't mean you get to cheat, but yeah. Unless Jared has any bright ideas, but you know, that's rare. Drop you a line? How old are you, dude?
00:45:25
Speaker
Drop you a line? That means send me a message. Hit getting me up. Sneak up in my DMs.
00:45:38
Speaker
This is old man Terrell. Drop me a line. Hey, drop me a line out there. Wow. It was at this moment that he knew he fucked up.
00:45:53
Speaker
Yeah, I'm going to do a ah scavenger hunt. Drop me a line. You can page me if you... Boring.
00:46:05
Speaker
yeah sorry, Johnny. I forgot you were there. Dude, RIP Val Kilmer. can we get Can I get a moment of silence for Val? The Iceman.
00:46:17
Speaker
Yes. It's Doc. 100% Doc. Iceman. Doc Holliday. Fuck off. Iceman is number two to Doc Holliday.
00:46:29
Speaker
One of the most repeatable line movies ever, Tombstone. but And ah predominantly all of them are Val. Yeah. He's good dude. so that Yeah, that was that was shitty news.
00:46:48
Speaker
Yeah. Well, rest in peace, Val. RIP, baby. RIP. Hey, let's do some some maker spotlight cause there's one I want to talk about.
00:47:00
Speaker
okay we'll go. i love it.
Spotlight on Knife Maker David Baranowski
00:47:02
Speaker
So my maker spotlight is someone I've known in the YouTube scene for a while. Remember, I don't remember. He's been in the challenges since early on because i stumbled across his channel and it used to be DB craft world. Okay. That used to be his YouTube channel.
00:47:23
Speaker
And then he changed it to, um and DB is cause his, and his name is David. I forget his last name starts to be, um, and he changed it to dark blade knives and because d he he wanted to get away from the craft world.
00:47:37
Speaker
So dark underscore blade underscore knives. And he he, go check him out on on Instagram. He makes them really cool. Like, I just love the shape of his handle and like the way his handle flows.
00:47:53
Speaker
um Really, really cool. He's he's got a bunch of pictures of this this copper buoy, I guess, not the only thing I could call it, that he's making. He's making it for a little while.
00:48:06
Speaker
And David got out of it. I think he lost his shop. He's from Poland and um kind of lost his shop and whatever, had to move. And he just recently, I think in the past few months, got back into it.
00:48:18
Speaker
But he's coming to Blade Show. nice And he's got a table. And I said, oh, what's your table? And he goes, oh, I don't quite remember. think it's 23. Oh, I'm like, no, it's not. My table is 23. Oh, he's and he looked a little stunned. And he's like, wait a second. He's like, oh, no, it's 24. Oh, I'm like, you're going to be facing my table.
00:48:45
Speaker
I'm like, how how much of a coincidence is that? We're going to be so staring at David the whole time. His table is going to be directly in front of us. Oh, that's a trip. Yeah.
00:48:55
Speaker
Wasn't that behind us, though? No. No, sorry. he He's going to be 22. Yeah, 22-0. He's going to be the one, because 24 is Holland. Holland. Holland Enville.
00:49:07
Speaker
Yeah, he's going to be 22, so he's directly in front of us. Nice. Which is hilarious. Yeah. Yeah, I think we're going have a newbie next to us, too, where Seth is, because i think Seth is moving. He's not.
00:49:18
Speaker
No. Sorry. i thought I looked it up, but I was still looking at um last year's. They hadn't updated the um the list. They may have by now.
00:49:29
Speaker
Yeah. he's yeah he he's He's moving somewhere else. But, yeah. So, i don't know. Yeah. I got to look at the list and check who our neighbors are.
00:49:41
Speaker
Yeah. But I wonder if Mark... beside us is coming back he think said he said he was but yeah i think so that was a cool dude we got a good good group of people around us that that's cool yeah with greg and hobie behind us and we got the the um little horse
Blade Show Reflections
00:50:01
Speaker
um eaten and uh and uh black horse forage over there and we we had a bunch of um eric eric yeah yeah green green green year green year yeah kitty croment like
00:50:14
Speaker
from us. So yeah, we got I love all the guys around us, but in fact, the whoever was, whoever was in David's place last year, like did not, and that's what I told them. I said, definitely you're going to do better than who was there last year and who was there the year before. Cause I don't think they sold anything different to both different tables the last two years. And the guys in front of us never seemed to do that well.
00:50:41
Speaker
So Hopefully it's. Yeah, because there's two bubbly personalities across the hall just hogging up all the attention. Damn right.
00:50:53
Speaker
All right. Well, at any rate, that dude, what's his name? David Baranowski. David Baranowski. Yes, I must agree.
00:51:05
Speaker
He's got 613 followers. Yep. That needs to change. Yeah. He's my him much bigger on on YouTube, but I don't think he's going to do... you he said he's he's not sure he's going to do YouTube much anymore.
00:51:19
Speaker
But really cool shaped knives. I love his hand. Yeah, dude. I'm just... Yeah, we kind of glossed over it with all the other mumbo jumbo. But yeah, dude does just killer stuff. Very unique.
00:51:31
Speaker
Yeah. I love it. Yeah. a little more on the A little more on the fantasy side kind of thing. like i They have a more of a fantasy feel to me. which is cool. I love that.
00:51:47
Speaker
It's good one. I thought there's another,
00:51:54
Speaker
almost feel bad about saying it, but there's another YouTube channel that I can't remember the name that started popping up in my feed. Not too long ago, um but I can't remember it. So, but he's way cooler than my buddy.
00:52:09
Speaker
Yeah. It's a smaller channel, but he's just really... He makes Damascus and you know teaches people all kinds of things. yeah he's He's really cool.
00:52:20
Speaker
I can't tell you're trying to be funny. ah I can't remember his fucking name, so half-talking shit and trying to be funny. as It can't all be gems, dude. Jeez.
00:52:37
Speaker
Okay, that was the only gem. well I already forgot what we were going to name this episode. the Shitting in silence. Oh, yes. The sound of shitting in silence.
00:52:51
Speaker
Hello, darkness, my own friend. okay Anyways, what are we where what are we doing? Oh, make your spotlight. So I have the... I have been following this woman for a while from uh for a long time and i have always liked what she does she's like um makes jewelry leather uh does a lot of file works on her knives but always just real unique stuff and and just staying constantly busy um this is the bladed broad
00:53:30
Speaker
the bladed broad. Cause I was looking for the blade for bladed broad and I couldn't find her forever. But, uh, this is a Kimberly Mitchell. ah believe she's out of Arizona. I'm maybe making that up, but I think that's where she's at.
00:53:43
Speaker
Uh, she's got a lot of follow 22,000, uh, followers. Um, but what does her bio say? Knife and jewelry maker.
00:53:54
Speaker
Um, but yeah, really good follow. Uh, does a lot of cool stuff. Um, And i think if you're not following her, you should go check her out and,
00:54:07
Speaker
and follow her. I'm scrolling right now. I'm in the death scroll, just all kinds of cool stuff here. Yeah. those And when I, when I say every time I see her name, there was a, there was a Canadian, um, rock, you know, in the, in the probably the eighties and nineties, uh,
00:54:28
Speaker
rock artist. Her name was Kim Mitchell. Oh, okay. ah So every time I see her name, I'm like, Oh, it's Kim Mitchell. It's the singer. Yeah. but Like,
00:54:39
Speaker
i don't The, the file work that she does is is really good. Yeah. She does a lot. I, she's known for file work. She does a lot of fire. Yeah. and that's nice stuff Yeah. i've I've been following her for a long time.
00:54:50
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Same here, but I've been meaning to, to shout her out and, here it is. This is the week. So, ah Kimberly Mitchell, The Bladed Broad. That's The Bladed Broad on Instagram.
00:55:05
Speaker
And there's some Etsy stuff too there. So go check her out. Yeah. And I know she's rocking house made grinder because I know at one point Brian had sent her a grinder. Yep.
00:55:18
Speaker
That is right. Cool. cool Yep. Yep. Yep. um What else?
00:55:30
Speaker
you know what Triple T is going to be this week? Tell me. on and go off Go off the dome.
00:55:39
Speaker
It's going to be on... do you know that term? No. go out Go off the dome? Off the dome? Is that like a sex term? right No. Well, yes, but no. Ironically, yes, but no but know Explain to me, what does that mean?
00:55:54
Speaker
Off the dome is when when a rapper just freestyles, when you're just coming off the dome. what's the What's the dome reference? Brain, the head, off the head. dome. There's that other reference.
00:56:10
Speaker
But anyways. Oh, yeah okay. Well, this is about doming pins. hope And peening pins. Peening your pins. Yeah, dome it down here a bit, buddy. Come on.
00:56:24
Speaker
ah Because I had to do that for the frame-handled Bowie Knife, so figured I would do a little video on doming pins, which is really cool. And um I think there's a lot of technique involved and a lot of little steps ah to do that properly, ah which I learned from Dave. um um So Dave Lish. So I thought I would pass it on to folks and show you how to dome pins properly.
00:56:51
Speaker
Hopefully I did it properly. um But come to Bladeshow and you'll see the frame handle buoy that I did. And you can tell me. But check it out. Yeah, not to cut you off here, but I just did. So deal with it.
00:57:04
Speaker
the I was really amazed that you told me how long that took to do that. And I don't know if it's because you sucked at it or was your first time or can you get faster or is that just about like it's a laborer. and laborious process.
00:57:22
Speaker
I think it's, I'm sure but people are better at it, but you could do it quicker, but you could also suck at it or you could risk because you don't, you don't want to, because the this is one of those, like, there's no going back, right? Like once once you peen that pin, it's locked in place.
00:57:49
Speaker
Okay, like, so the first step is you peen the pin and then you dome over the top of the pin. But once the pin is peened in place, you're not getting it out. So if you fuck it up, you're done.
00:58:00
Speaker
Or you accidentally hammer into the wood and, like, there's there's a whole bunch of things that can go wrong. And so that's why you want to take your time and do it right.
00:58:12
Speaker
I may watch this video. This one, this sounds interesting. And it... ah Again, it's not for everyone. It's not very often that you're going to peen pins on this kind of construction, whether they're 16th inch pins and you're doming the head really because it looks nice.
00:58:29
Speaker
I don't think there's some guys will tell you, oh, I peen my pins because it's like the best. It gives you a mechanical and it does. It gives you a mechanical hold, but that's not why you're doing it. You're doing it because it looks cool.
00:58:43
Speaker
Okay. I like it. I'm interested. i I will watch this one. Yeah. It always intimidated me. So, uh, I'm not intimidated anymore.
00:58:55
Speaker
Okay. There you go. And then maybe the week later, I'm very excited about my next video.
Electroplating Experiments in Gold
00:59:04
Speaker
Cause it's another thing that I've always been, um intimidated by.
00:59:11
Speaker
uh, it was Rick. our friend Rick Hall, who reached out to me the other day and showed me, he just sent me a picture and he said, look at this.
00:59:22
Speaker
And it was his logo in gold. And how to, how to electro plate either gold, silver, gold, nickel, or copper, um electro plate.
00:59:39
Speaker
And for, I'm interested mostly to do it in, a logo or in my maker's mark because just doing this KUMI Bowie knife. Yes. I lasered on my logo, but a lasered on logo over top of Damascus.
00:59:54
Speaker
It's a, yeah, it never comes out. You know, it doesn't pop, but if I could have done that and electro plated it with copper, so the whole logo was in copper, man, it would have popped.
01:00:08
Speaker
Go ahead. You can do it. You can do the call. the couple yeah the call
01:00:17
Speaker
I'm not doing it come on you ate a fucking cock and balls dude like what are you you're progressing in to being a little more loose and less rigid and more know arm Dennis Terrell hit me with the fucking oh yeah that's not what I said that's Jared oh yeah and dude that was good dude again oh yeah
01:00:44
Speaker
But thats that's what the copper plating would make. That's how it would make them feel. It's going to be more of a, oh, yeah. No, that's super. A very white, oh, yeah. That's so Canadian, dude. Get out here.
01:00:58
Speaker
Oh, yeah No, I said very white, not... Yeah, that's what i'm saying. It's the same thing, though. it's like dropping a line, dude. Just get out here. But i'm I'm excited to try this out. I've just spent four...
01:01:13
Speaker
400 and some dollars at Rio Grande today ordering all the electroplating stuff. So yeah, you figured it out. You got ahold of them. Yeah, no, I mean, I already knew what I needed. i just, ah Oh, you i didn't order it. Yeah. You were bitching and moaning about how stupid the site was and how dumb they were. And yes, there's something wrong with their website.
01:01:35
Speaker
There's like a couple of other things that have like chemical in them that you I don't know. It's stupid. Their website's broken. i called them, ordered it. No problem. I just couldn't order it on the website.
01:01:47
Speaker
Gotcha. So yeah. All right. But I'm excited. So maybe next week's video or the week after one of those two. And I made you a couple of videos, one on actually, i don't know a couple of videos because it's all the same, but just a different chemical.
01:02:04
Speaker
But I'll do some testing. and And I also think it would be really cool. to do one in nickel. Because you don't always want to do one with copper or gold.
01:02:15
Speaker
You've got just a straight kind of a nickel Damascus and you just want it shiny. It would be cool to do that maker's mark. in I like where you're ah like where you're going.
01:02:26
Speaker
Yeah. I like where you're going. Good idea, Rick. Ordered all three. Nickel, copper, and gold. It was the gold one that was expensive, though. Yep. Tag along Tyrell. Doing his thing.
01:02:41
Speaker
I'm sure he's going to bring that knife actually tomorrow. So I want to see the, uh, how nice the gold is in the, uh, um, on the knife that he did look good in the picture, so stay tuned. I think that's going to be a popular video. I think a lot of people are going to want to watch that.
01:02:58
Speaker
Yeah. I'm interested in that one too.
01:03:02
Speaker
yup Yep. Yep. Yep. All right. All right, man. Hey, we got one more, uh, one more bill to pay. yeah Speaking of which, where's my paring knife?
01:03:15
Speaker
yeah Yeah, about that.
01:03:18
Speaker
You know what else? You know what else it is? i just, I i knew i was going to forget the laser and the filter. So I had a one of the best ADD episodes ever.
01:03:34
Speaker
but Dennis and I go, we forge a knife, we call it quits, we go upstairs, we like, alright dude, we've been... thing's been here for a long time. Let's, let's get this figured out. We, he's hooking me up with this filter for the laser.
01:03:46
Speaker
um And we just needed to make sure that the, the hose connection fit, you know, the pieces and we walk upstairs, do our thing, do our plane tickets. And he pulls out his hose and it fits. yeah yeah And it's like, it's not even a big deal.
01:04:06
Speaker
So he's got this thing in his big-ass box, right? Like a giant box. It's so unnecessary for but what's inside of there. and That's what they shipped it to me in. I get it. So I'm like, all right.
01:04:18
Speaker
Okay. So he's like really proud of himself because he's going to send me home with this giant box. I bet I'm dying to get out of my office. So he got I got it out of his office. So my wife tripped on it coming in the door.
01:04:31
Speaker
You're not her favorite anymore, by the way. yeah right. That's not evidence. I'll blame it on you. yeah Kim, it was not my fault. Dennis. Yeah. Um, anyways, we, we put it in front of the door on the inside of the house and, we go out in the shop and I grab all my shit and I leave ah get on my, on my way home is, uh,
01:04:53
Speaker
A couple of lights and then I'm on a two-lane road through a mountain and and and you ain't turning around. And he texts me just as I got past the ah the the light for the two-lane road. He's like, you forgot the laser, you dumbass.
01:05:07
Speaker
Oh, yeah. That's my fault. But feel free to pick it up anytime this week. Yeah. So I will. know I'll bring you your paring knife as well.
01:05:18
Speaker
Yeah. Damn right. But that paring knife has... some awesome scales on there. And I think if you're interested in some awesome scales, you could go check out rock solid scales.
01:05:30
Speaker
They have the grip tech, all the, uh, the premier grippy grip handle material on the market right now, as well as stabilized, uh, other proxy resin stuff too.
01:05:46
Speaker

01:06:13
Speaker
That's her jam. Yeah.
01:06:18
Speaker
Oh, man. I should have bedazzled it a little more. Yes. Bedazzle it. Get some Schwarzkopf crystals or something. It ain't going to be fucking fancy enough. I'll tell you that. and She'll fancy you up One up on the fancy every time.
01:06:36
Speaker
ah Well, she she likes to do that diamond art. Maybe she'll put some diamond art on it. Yeah, there you go.
Celebration of Life and Gratitude
01:06:44
Speaker
Well, my my final thing is a ah not not not the the best thing in the world, but I do need to just, for my own heart, this Sunday we finally had the the service for my grandmother. And we had a beautiful celebration of life for her.
01:07:05
Speaker
um Really difficult day. Um, she's, uh, missed dearly by many people. Um, and our family is, uh, I don't know that any of them listen here, but at any rate, you know, ah we're, we're eternally grateful for all the support and love that you guys, uh, showed, um, and taking the time out of your day to, to celebrate a beautiful woman's life who is important to many, many people and the, uh, the center of our family, man. So her losses felt greatly. And, um,
01:07:36
Speaker
you know, it's weird, Dennis, like I suck at funerals in general, right? Like if I go to a funeral, I'm probably going to cry because I'll look at somebody who's feeling that loss, you know, more.
01:07:50
Speaker
And I have no problem with that. That's that's that empathy is is a is a gift and ability to touch, you know, to get in touch with your feelings and and feel for another human being. But this was this is ah this is a difficult one, man. And after ah the weird situation with how long it's been since, since she passed in September, but um you know, it it all worked out good.
01:08:13
Speaker
But yeah, it kind of brings all of those uncomfortable feelings to the surface. And, but at the same time, you know, I like to think of it as um you know, just the process of, of healing, but um what I have to, what I get to practice more so than anything with this is that You know, it's not a it's a it's a gone, not forgotten type thing, that cliche, but and in the truest form, you know.
01:08:42
Speaker
um So I love you, Grandma. I miss you. And so does our family. And I just ah journey on. So anyways, enough with that.
01:08:55
Speaker
But that was a really, really, really, really beautiful, shitty beautiful shitty day That's all I could do, the best way I can describe it. So, yeah, but I'm very grateful for everybody that showed up and for all all the love and and support that people have shown. So thank you.
01:09:12
Speaker
It was good. You got to celebrate her life and see the whole family and everyone got together. So yeah, my wife, my wife put this beautiful like video montage thing together. And yeah, it was crazy.
01:09:24
Speaker
I'll tell you what though, you know, on a little lighter note, I've been all kinds of sizes over the years.
01:09:33
Speaker
I was watching this thing. like i don't when it the last time you saw Jared, but Jared's like a splitting image of me when I was 16, just a skin and bones rail ah you know for for a lot. And then you know there's there's like fucking the guy that ate three of those Jareds. jared ah There was a video in there of me at my all-time biggest, bro. i was just like And then i was like I was wearing this giant green A's shirt.
01:10:03
Speaker
Like, and it must have been, like, size, like, fucking 10X or something. can i just look I was like, I can't even express it. I'm going to find it, and i'll show I'll show you just so we can laugh together. But, yeah, this this this dude in this video was just gigantic. And then there's, like, smaller Jared, and then, like, you a little chunkier Jared, and the smaller Jared.
01:10:24
Speaker
and i i've I've fluctuated quite a bit here. but so I've seen a couple old pictures of you that I found quite entertaining. Yeah, there's... there's There was a phase there right before I fucking ate myself blind that was, yeah, I was a legend.
01:10:39
Speaker
yeah I was begging. So you think I'm big now. woof I see one thing left in your notes that you didn't cover that says I ain't doing taxes.
01:10:52
Speaker
I'm lying. I'm trying to be a badass and show off. I'm like, yeah, right. yeah I'm not doing taxes on time. but That means Lynn's doing taxes and you're not doing them? Is that what that means?
01:11:03
Speaker
We like to push the envelope over here in the Sandoval House. you know I think we probably have an appointment on Friday afternoon something. Or maybe even, i don't know, when is the 15th? Next week.
01:11:16
Speaker
next Next Tuesday. So I probably have one on on Monday, to be honest with you. Man, you do like cutting their clothes. I have an accountant. wow we just Don't you just send them all your shit?
01:11:27
Speaker
yeah Yeah. i yeah I heard we you don't even like... You just literally send them crap and make him go through it. At least I organize it. I send her a summary spreadsheet.
01:11:39
Speaker
Yeah, same thing. just You made it sound like you're an animal and you just send her a bunch of raw shit. No, it's pretty straightforward.
01:11:50
Speaker
It's just I don't have much, you know? So for my for my other gig, I have my regular ah poverty taxes that I end up paying a billion dollars on. so Yeah.
01:12:02
Speaker
And then I have my other my other gig and Echo Blades, and it's, you know, a lot of money out, I'll tell you that. Not much coming in. Well, that means you better get your ass at the shop.
01:12:15
Speaker
That's right. You going to have some knives for Blade Show? Yeah. All right. 100%. It better not be that bearing knife. You're dead man.
01:12:28
Speaker
It won't be that one. All right. It won't be that one. But that's it. Love you, Grandma. Peace out, everybody. Have a great day. All right. Later. I'm eating licorice because that's professional.
01:12:54
Speaker
And our theme song was ripped off again by a fucking mattress company now. So I don't know. Olive Garden, mattress company. Dennis sends me this picture. he's like, or real. He's like, what the fuck? I watched it three times. And I'm like, what am I?
01:13:09
Speaker
Oh, my God. These things. And then I got tired and I ordered one. That's a wrap. Bye-bye.
