Denis Tyrell
oh so ah yeah, in all fairness, Matt, I am excited to give you the opportunity to set me straight and get everything squared away with what's happening.
00:01:25
Grippy McGripperston
composites now.
00:01:27
Grippy McGripperston
It's all
00:01:37
Grippy McGripperston
good.
00:01:37
Denis Tyrell
Cause I know you've had some really, really ah awesome, exciting, big things happen. And I'm super interested to, to hear what's going on. So, um, thank you.
00:01:46
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, it's been a lot of big changes. so
00:01:48
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. But I appreciate both of you guys joining. Um, I know Dennis and I are super grateful for all of the sponsors and the support that you guys provide us. Um, and just, you know, uh, an opportunity to have you guys on and, uh, have some fun.
00:02:04
Denis Tyrell
So, uh, without further ado, let's just get right to, uh, yeah.
00:02:08
Coy Baker
Let's roll, baby.
00:02:10
Denis Tyrell
Colin Dennis lame slacker.
00:02:12
Coy Baker
Gay Canadian.
00:02:12
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. you Canadian.
00:02:18
Coy Baker
all No holds barred. I mean he's gone. There's nothing he can do. He gave you the reins, so he's out. Poor him.
00:02:26
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Yeah.
00:02:26
Grippy McGripperston
was a mistake.
00:02:28
Denis Tyrell
It was a mistake. A hundred percent.
00:02:30
Coy Baker
But we're going to take full advantage. So, Dennis, you're listening to this.
00:02:32
Grippy McGripperston
yeah, that's why we're here.
00:02:33
Denis Tyrell
I sure.
00:02:34
Coy Baker
It's two days later, and I don't apologize.
00:02:39
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. At all.
00:02:40
Coy Baker
So, nope.
00:02:41
Denis Tyrell
Zero. You should have went harder when I wasn't here.
00:02:42
Coy Baker
No.
00:02:45
Denis Tyrell
That's how this goes.
00:02:47
Coy Baker
Exactly.
00:02:48
Denis Tyrell
All right.
00:02:49
Coy Baker
he He chose to retire. i mean, is his bad. So, where is he?
00:02:53
Grippy McGripperston
don't know. Sounds like he's doing more work than Jared right now.
00:02:55
Coy Baker
Where is he?
00:03:00
Denis Tyrell
I missed Yes.
00:03:00
Coy Baker
Where is Dennis? he's it where's that He's traveling.
00:03:02
Grippy McGripperston
He is at the Midwest Knife Makers Guild Hammer Inn Mankato, Minnesota.
00:03:03
Coy Baker
He's traveling.
00:03:07
Denis Tyrell
Yes.
00:03:09
Grippy McGripperston
um he's It's something that is housed at the USA Knife Maker facility up there. So,

Jared's Portland Experience

00:03:19
Denis Tyrell
That's a hundred percent.
00:03:19
Coy Baker
Well, it must not be all that cool. Neither of us were invited, Matt. So, you know.
00:03:19
Grippy McGripperston
yeah.
00:03:24
Grippy McGripperston
that's true that's true they do do a show in the uh twin cities in september so i'll be doing that one but not the hammering i don't know hammer anything so
00:03:36
Denis Tyrell
That's overrated.
00:03:36
Coy Baker
Hmm. I only know hammer something on a power hammer. Hand hammers, I'm out.
00:03:42
Denis Tyrell
ah that's a lie. uh coy showed us all up uh in florida one time when they we were making little baby snakes in a coal forge with uh steve galb uh and the uh the foundry crew there and uh coy gets up on there you know and he's like well that steve's one of the best teachers ever greatest guy he's like okay coy you know cool just like a like a power hammer i was just like
00:03:45
Coy Baker
ah
00:03:48
Coy Baker
Oh. but but
00:04:08
Grippy McGripperston
Koi just turns into a power hammer.
00:04:10
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. I'm like, we all look at my guy.
00:04:11
Grippy McGripperston
Time
00:04:12
Denis Tyrell
You've done this before. ah yeah
00:04:14
Grippy McGripperston
to take.
00:04:14
Denis Tyrell
So
00:04:15
Coy Baker
All right, so maybe the first few Baker Forge billets were made on an anvil with a hammer, but not not many since.
00:04:21
Denis Tyrell
well, good. Yeah. So you learned you're progressing. That's awesome.
00:04:24
Coy Baker
That's right, that's right. My arm can only do that for so long, so.
00:04:26
Denis Tyrell
There we go.
00:04:29
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. But, uh, yeah. So I am fresh back from a trip to Washington, ah last week for work. Um,
00:04:40
Denis Tyrell
it has been a kind of a whirlwind. Uh, I spent the first couple of days, um, doing work.
00:04:46
Grippy McGripperston
you
00:04:48
Denis Tyrell
I did go out fishing with my buddy, uh, Steve Lockwood. Um, I got skunked. Uh, I, unfortunately the timing of this trip is like next week is going to be like hammer time for, for the salmon run.
00:05:01
Denis Tyrell
Um, so, I timing was, was a little shitty, but, uh, always great to, yeah, yeah.
00:05:07
Coy Baker
little early.
00:05:09
Denis Tyrell
A little early. Um, They're just not quite doing their thing yet. But it's always great to to see Steve and and Beth. and Great hosts. Always have a great time.
00:05:21
Denis Tyrell
The weather was ah was a little weird. It actually barely rained, but it was threatening to rain the whole time I was there. So it fucked all my plans up. Like I was going to golf. I was going to fish. We were to have a picnic outside. we had to reschedule.
00:05:34
Denis Tyrell
um And then I booked a later flight home on Saturday yesterday. ah Because I was going to either fish or golf, but I had to cancel all that stuff. So I, I, I spent the entire day.
00:05:47
Denis Tyrell
I got to sleep in actually. So that was pretty cool. Slipping. And ah basically was homeless for like seven hours yesterday. So I decided I'm like, well, let's go see what Portland has to offer.
00:06:00
Coy Baker
Oh boy.
00:06:01
Denis Tyrell
Oh, Oh my God.
00:06:01
Coy Baker
Not much.
00:06:01
Grippy McGripperston
nothing actually probably has a lot to offer just not stuff you want
00:06:04
Coy Baker
yeah
00:06:07
Coy Baker
Not good stuff, right?
00:06:07
Denis Tyrell
Look, man, guys, I, I, I don't, this isn't a badge or anything. Right. But I, I'm not really from the the greatest area. Right. Like it's a little rough where I grew up and this place, I, my stomach turned just like I was going back. Like it was just dope fiend central. I mean, maybe I'm sure there's beautiful parts of Portland. If you're from Portland area, I'm not saying your whole city's trash, but predominantly most of it was from what I saw.
00:06:37
Denis Tyrell
Uh, it was, it was, yeah, it was sad, you know, from somebody that's in recovery for as long as I've been, ah to see the disease of addiction actively whooping people's ass, uh, in the, in the manner and the magnitude in which I saw was, was kind of heartbreaking, but, uh, you know, um, it makes me, makes me grateful, uh, that that's not my life today.
00:06:54
Coy Baker
Wow.
00:06:58
Denis Tyrell
um and, uh,
00:07:01
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. So it was, it was interesting. It was not fun. It was pretty boring. And I am very happy to be home to get through this. And then on top of that, guys, I had this dream last night that I, okay, Koi, you're in my dream, dude.
00:07:18
Coy Baker
Oh, hell yeah. I made it.
00:07:18
Grippy McGripperston
So you know you made it
00:07:19
Coy Baker
I've made it.
00:07:19
Denis Tyrell
You did. Yes. And you know, it's probably a nightmare for you because we were golfing.
00:07:24
Coy Baker
but but but What kind of drink? Oh, shit.
00:07:27
Denis Tyrell
We had clothes on, we were like doing sports and stuff.
00:07:29
Coy Baker
No!
00:07:29
Grippy McGripperston
Oh, man.
00:07:30
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:07:30
Coy Baker
Don't say it wasn't so! No!
00:07:34
Denis Tyrell
but i I, had that, uh, I woke up all like panicky, like, because I missed our date or time right now to record the podcast. I was like, Matt's probably just sitting there waiting for us right now, dude. We completely faked.
00:07:47
Coy Baker
And you and I are drunk on a golf course somewhere.
00:07:48
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, exactly.
00:07:49
Grippy McGripperston
okay
00:07:50
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. I get to drink in my dreams.
00:07:50
Grippy McGripperston
ah
00:07:51
Denis Tyrell
It's great.
00:07:52
Coy Baker
Right, exactly.
00:07:52
Grippy McGripperston
almost
00:07:54
Coy Baker
Benefit of of dreaming.
00:07:55
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:07:57
Grippy McGripperston
ah
00:07:57
Denis Tyrell
Oh, so, uh, yeah. Dream time apologies for Matt, but yeah. Uh, Yeah, that was it. It was i woke up like, oh, shit. like But ah yeah, so pretty uneventful week for me.
00:08:08
Grippy McGripperston
I'm
00:08:10
Denis Tyrell
And yeah, and and Dennis is out playing around with Juicy Lucy's in in Minnesota somewhere. And guys, I can't.
00:08:17
Grippy McGripperston
going to have to go find me a juicy Lucy when I go up there for the show.
00:08:17
Coy Baker
He better.

Juicy Lucy Burger Discussion

00:08:21
Denis Tyrell
Have you had one?
00:08:22
Grippy McGripperston
No, no, never had juicy Lucy.
00:08:23
Denis Tyrell
Oh, you've.
00:08:23
Coy Baker
I've had one. there's ah There's a bar in my town, ah bar slash restaurant that serves a Juicy Lucy. They're amazing. I heard you on the podcast last week talking about it. And I was like, oh, yeah, I know exactly what that is. They're phenomenal. He's going to love it.
00:08:37
Denis Tyrell
so basically there's like cheese baked in the burger right inside
00:08:41
Coy Baker
Inside, yeah. And sometimes sometimes it's a big old puck of cheese, and then sometimes it's just like cheese niblets that are cooked into the burger, but most of the time it's a big old wedge of cheese in the center.
00:08:42
Grippy McGripperston
Oh, shoot, yeah, I have.
00:08:55
Coy Baker
Yeah.
00:08:55
Denis Tyrell
that sounds horrible
00:08:55
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, we actually do have a ah restaurant just about 30 minutes away that serves burgers like that. So, yeah, I guess I have had a juicy Lucy in my face.
00:09:08
Coy Baker
They sometimes don't call it Juicy Lucy, because you're right, Matt. There are burgers that they do that whole puck in the middle of the burger and they don't call it a juicy Lucy. So that's true.
00:09:18
Grippy McGripperston
Well, this place is called Lucy's Number 7, so I should have probably picked up on that fact, but...
00:09:19
Denis Tyrell
that's a shit
00:09:22
Coy Baker
Yeah. Yes.
00:09:23
Denis Tyrell
yeah I've had a juicy Lucy in my face yes this is this is fantastic
00:09:27
Grippy McGripperston
um I'm really just here to derail the conversations, so...
00:09:31
Coy Baker
Perfect.
00:09:31
Grippy McGripperston
Hang on.
00:09:35
Denis Tyrell
Oh, man. ah Yeah. but So i I challenged him to actually be descriptive when he says something that's not Damascus.
00:09:38
Coy Baker
Well,
00:09:44
Denis Tyrell
So I'm really interested to see what he what he comes back with, because I'm pretty sure it's going to sound like, I had a burger, there was cheese in the middle, it was fantastic, Canadia, Canadia.
00:09:57
Grippy McGripperston
He can't say that anymore, can he?
00:09:58
Coy Baker
hashtag gay gay robot
00:09:59
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Yeah. Oh, man. If he takes time from his ah breaking away from his Canadian dating site, that video mobile phone game he's playing now.
00:10:11
Coy Baker
right did he end up taking parker with him because i it sounded like he might okay
00:10:11
Denis Tyrell
That'd be awesome.
00:10:15
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Yeah, he did. That was the plan. I actually have not spoke to him because I left a day before he did. So but that was the plan.
00:10:23
Coy Baker
Okay.
00:10:24
Denis Tyrell
So so i guess he had some adult supervision.
00:10:25
Coy Baker
Cool.
00:10:27
Denis Tyrell
That's cool. Yeah.
00:10:28
Coy Baker
Yeah, he's good.
00:10:29
Grippy McGripperston
probably beneficial.
00:10:29
Coy Baker
Parker will look after him.
00:10:31
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, for sure. But yeah. So Matt, I'm curious. And I'm sure the the the four other people here that listen to this podcast are as well.
00:10:42
Denis Tyrell
You know, um but tell us about all the the the cool shit that's happening since i know it's not since Blade Show, but there's

Post-Blade Show Success

00:10:50
Denis Tyrell
been some really, really cool stuff happening.
00:10:50
Grippy McGripperston
That's pretty much.
00:10:52
Denis Tyrell
I saw pictures of you or a video of you like building a like a I want to say a grinding room because I'm a part time knife maker, but.
00:11:01
Grippy McGripperston
um
00:11:02
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. um You know, so making, putting walls up and ceiling joists and stuff like that. But yeah, tell us what's going on and and and then set everybody straight with my horrible transition to your rebranding.
00:11:08
Grippy McGripperston
try Yeah.
00:11:16
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:11:16
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, there's lots to talk about there. I'll try and keep it kind of short. But yeah, since the Blade Show, it's been a massive success added on three wholesalers. So I've been cranking out those orders, finally getting them shipped out. And um, finally decided it was time to take the plunge to move to a new shop and, um, kind of go through a little bit of a rebranding to kind of push more into the grip tech side of things. Um, and I've been working on a trademark for grip tech for a little over a year.
00:11:47
Grippy McGripperston
And, uh, ultimately it boiled down to, there's a really cheap knife company. Hopefully I don't get sued for slander before people listening probably don't care.
00:11:57
Coy Baker
nobody listens yeah you're good
00:11:58
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, that's that's perfect.
00:11:58
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, you're good.
00:11:59
Grippy McGripperston
<unk> My secret's safe here.
00:12:00
Denis Tyrell
Two of them are here.
00:12:03
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah. um So basically, there's a cheap knife company that has like an injection molded plastic handle and they call it GripTex. I guess the whole thing with with trademarks is like it can't be so close that it confuses a consumer and apparently consumers are retarded.
00:12:21
Grippy McGripperston
um So i can say that on here, right?
00:12:22
Coy Baker
very much so yes
00:12:23
Grippy McGripperston
Okay. So...
00:12:24
Denis Tyrell
I am. Yeah.
00:12:25
Grippy McGripperston
sir
00:12:26
Denis Tyrell
Not like the the customers listen.
00:12:27
Grippy McGripperston
So they basically said like, yeah.
00:12:29
Coy Baker
Yeah, right.
00:12:31
Denis Tyrell
Don't worry.
00:12:33
Grippy McGripperston
So basically they're like, oh, that one letter being different and the dash and like the whole different product being like totally different. You can't really do that. I could have appealed it and probably spent like $100,000 and might have won, but I might have lost too. It was about a 50-50 chance. And so I decided to kind of rebrand and I could take could make the business name grip tech composites so i could keep the grip tech flow um to keep that familiarity and uh so then i chose grip x to rename the product to just uh because it sounded good enough i mean it's uh no science behind it it was i had like 20 different names i'm like this one sounds the most i don't know usable i guess um so we went with that and uh
00:13:24
Grippy McGripperston
So yeah, we're in the trademark process for that. And, um, but yeah, decided that I was busy enough that was time to get a shop and we moved in on August 1st, uh, moved all the big stuff over. I'm still kind of split between my basement and the shop as I build stuff out.
00:13:38
Grippy McGripperston
But yeah, I am building a grinding room or a dirty room, technically speaking.
00:13:43
Coy Baker
Real we quick, Matt, let me pause you.
00:13:43
Denis Tyrell
Gotcha.
00:13:43
Grippy McGripperston
Um,
00:13:43
Denis Tyrell
and
00:13:45
Coy Baker
Before we get off the whole name thing, just to be clear for the listeners and everybody, the name of the product is now GripX, correct?
00:13:52
Grippy McGripperston
that's correct. Yeah. So,
00:13:53
Coy Baker
And the company name is what?
00:13:53
Grippy McGripperston
It's not Grip Tech anymore. It's Grip X. And the company name went from Rock Solid Scales to Grip Tech Composites. I still keep Rock Solid Scales for like my stabilized wood and stuff when I have time to bring that back online a little more.
00:14:01
Coy Baker
Got it.
00:14:08
Grippy McGripperston
um So they'll kind of be two sections of the business that I can keep a little bit more separate um because I'm doing as time goes on, I'm doing more and more wholesale and commercial sales with the Grip Tech Composites and
00:14:16
Coy Baker
Gotcha.
00:14:22
Grippy McGripperston
I'll separate that a little more from the hobby side of things, which is just the wood.
00:14:27
Coy Baker
Okay. Gotcha. So Grip X, I'm following.
00:14:29
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah. Grip X. Yeah. Same stuff, different name, you know, legalities, I guess.
00:14:34
Denis Tyrell
and And we have and we have a like a ah newer version of GripX as well.
00:14:35
Coy Baker
Cool.
00:14:39
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah. So started doing, uh, started doing the 3d grip X. Um, so it's a, resin 3d print and then i pour the grip x inside it and then slice it into scales so that stuff was really popular blade show um i use the resin 3d printer because the resin and the grip x actually bonds to it so it's ah actually a really strong product um just as strong as the regular grip x in my testing so yeah that stuff's the newest and hottest
00:15:07
Coy Baker
Cool.
00:15:08
Denis Tyrell
And that's that that's the one that we can finish up to higher grids, correct?
00:15:12
Grippy McGripperston
Oh, no, yeah, you're right. I have another one too. Good Lord.
00:15:15
Denis Tyrell
Oh, weird. Look at you.
00:15:16
Grippy McGripperston
So that's the limitless edition. So limitless edition. I took the same colors of the normal grip X, but I changed out the black rubber for colored rubber. um So I have white rubber, red rubber and blue rubber right now, but I have ah the option of like 17 different colors of rubber, but that's a different style of rubber or different.
00:15:37
Grippy McGripperston
I don't know chemical compound, I suppose. um So it actually sands smoother than the the previous stuff I was using, but it gives like 95% of the grip of the original Grip-X.
00:15:49
Grippy McGripperston
A little bit premium of a price because of the price of the rubber, and there's some labor involved in that that for patent purposes I probably can't get into yet, which kind sucks.
00:15:49
Denis Tyrell
Nice.
00:15:58
Denis Tyrell
Gotcha.
00:15:59
Coy Baker
are the rubbers Are the rubbers ribbed for her pleasure or just regular?
00:16:00
Grippy McGripperston
but
00:16:04
Grippy McGripperston
um It depends how finish it, yeah.
00:16:06
Coy Baker
Okay.
00:16:06
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:16:07
Coy Baker
Just checking. and
00:16:08
Grippy McGripperston
I prefer it. Yeah, you know, just leave it. Leave it ribbed. Yeah.
00:16:12
Coy Baker
Give ribbed.
00:16:12
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Good deal. Okay.
00:16:15
Coy Baker
Okay, so new shop.
00:16:17
Grippy McGripperston
New shop. Yeah. So we moved into.
00:16:19
Coy Baker
Sorry, I completely derailed it. I'm sorry. My bad.
00:16:21
Grippy McGripperston
It's what we're here for.
00:16:22
Denis Tyrell
No, I just can't. I'm yeah i'm concerned you didn't. the His version isn't there either. Okay. There's my participation.
00:16:32
Grippy McGripperston
ah
00:16:33
Denis Tyrell
Okay.
00:16:34
Grippy McGripperston
God.
00:16:36
Denis Tyrell
there's there's my participation
00:16:37
Grippy McGripperston
I can't wait for Dennis to listen to this.
00:16:42
Denis Tyrell
and
00:16:42
Grippy McGripperston
um So yeah, the new facility. We moved in on August 1st. It's a 2,400 square foot. It's got like a probably a 500 or 600 square foot office, which is perfect. Keep our inventory, do all our shipping, all that stuff.
00:16:55
Grippy McGripperston
Lock the kids in the closet while we're there if we need to.
00:16:59
Coy Baker
Amen.
00:16:59
Denis Tyrell
Yes. yes
00:17:00
Grippy McGripperston
They have a TV. It's fine. um
00:17:02
Coy Baker
yeah
00:17:03
Grippy McGripperston
And yeah, so probably it's about 1,800 square foot of workspace. um Got a nice big garage door so I can move bigger stuff in when the time comes. But yeah, we're excited to get everything moved over there, get production started over there and kind of figure out what our workflow is going to look like.
00:17:22
Grippy McGripperston
um It's kind of been a ah hot mess the last couple weeks since we started moving over there. So still split, like I said.
00:17:28
Coy Baker
and you're coming you're coming from a basement. how How big of a basement are you coming from?
00:17:32
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah. My casting room was like 10 by 12 and then I had a room that I built out in my garage that was six by 12 and that was my cutting and grinding room and then where I had my 3D printers was a little bit bigger that was probably 12 20 room so whatever that adds up to you I would guess probably 6 or 700 square foot
00:17:53
Coy Baker
But you were...
00:17:56
Coy Baker
You were prettyd pretty spread out too, though.
00:17:58
Grippy McGripperston
yeah yeah yeah
00:17:58
Coy Baker
mean, that's different rooms. Yeah. So it's a big move to move to a space where you've got everything kind of all together. And I know you kind of grew the business with inside the basement.
00:18:09
Coy Baker
And I've grown a ah business with inside of a space before.
00:18:09
Grippy McGripperston
Oh
00:18:12
Coy Baker
And it's one thing where as you grow, just stuff kind of ends up to in one spot. It's like, well, that's where 3D printing ended up or whatever.
00:18:18
Grippy McGripperston
yeah.
00:18:19
Coy Baker
But then when you go to a new space and you're like, all right, we know what we're doing. We have our processes, but now we're going to start from scratch on where everything's set up and where the process is.
00:18:28
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah. Yeah.
00:18:29
Coy Baker
That is, I love that so much.
00:18:32
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, the clean slate is really a big, really nice big improvement because Gosh, I'm so ready to not go upstairs 600 times a day.
00:18:41
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:18:42
Coy Baker
Exactly.
00:18:44
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, I guess. And then for me, it gives me like incredible amount of anxiety trying to come in up with a new new process to to create a

Shop Setup and Workflow Optimization

00:18:52
Denis Tyrell
flow. I mean, now ultimately, that's what you guys are trying to do, right?
00:18:54
Denis Tyrell
you got you're You're working on production now, basically trying to get ah like almost an assembly line type thing going, but just to create...
00:18:55
Grippy McGripperston
yeah
00:19:02
Denis Tyrell
a nice easy flow for you to you know, for some ease of finishing of of work, which I know nothing about. But so I listen to you guys and take notes here.
00:19:14
Denis Tyrell
But the that's cool.
00:19:16
Grippy McGripperston
So yeah, it's a.
00:19:17
Coy Baker
Well, i it's probably an adaptation of your already existing process, I would assume.
00:19:18
Grippy McGripperston
ah
00:19:22
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, yeah.
00:19:22
Coy Baker
You're just adapting it to the new space and a new setup.
00:19:25
Grippy McGripperston
Exactly. Yeah, I actually sat down on CAD and kind of sat there and drew out a bunch of stuff and was like, all right, walk myself through the process from top to bottom. And it's like, OK, I need my resin here. I need my molds here. I need my workspace here.
00:19:41
Grippy McGripperston
I need my finishing space to look like this. And I want it to be as close together as I possibly can. And then it's like, okay, can I mirror that on the other side of the room for when it's time to hire somebody?
00:19:54
Grippy McGripperston
So I'm building everything out so I could have two people working in the same space at the same time. So should be able to have like four or five people working in this building, which is nice.
00:20:04
Coy Baker
Wow.
00:20:05
Grippy McGripperston
i don't
00:20:05
Denis Tyrell
Ooh.
00:20:05
Grippy McGripperston
don't know that I'm going to need that in that building. I think I'll outgrow it before I get to that point. But it's nice because then, you know, if I have an influx of orders, I have a couple people that will come help me part-time like my dad will come cut stuff and you know get some buddies they'll come over and do some stuff too so um it's nice because if i have a big influx then i can flow people in and get them kind of trained up on a few things and then i'm only employing a part-timer you know
00:20:34
Coy Baker
So are you looking for an actual hire yet? Or...
00:20:36
Grippy McGripperston
uh no not yet um i'm still working actually full-time contrary to jared's belief um so i'm still doing the
00:20:43
Denis Tyrell
I was just going to say, can you clear that up? But...
00:20:45
Coy Baker
yeah
00:20:46
Grippy McGripperston
I'm still doing the full time nurse practitioner gig, but I'm grateful and lucky to have a really flexible gig. um So actually work two days one week and then three days the next week. So five days of pay period and then pretty much five or six days with ah with GripTech.
00:21:01
Grippy McGripperston
So I think as time goes on and I need to cut back at the day job a little bit, I still have a lot of flexibility to be able to do that. um So I'll probably cut back a little more before I end up hiring somebody.
00:21:15
Coy Baker
Gotcha.
00:21:15
Denis Tyrell
and I just want to clear up. I'm just excited for you to to to have so much business opportunity and growth that you can, you know, ah set that Peroni investigator rule down for good, you know.
00:21:18
Grippy McGripperston
I appreciate it.
00:21:31
Denis Tyrell
Speaking of Peroni, though, and we were talking about hammers and stuff, and I completely missed a great lead into one of our um other sponsors, the great Frank over at Two Bastards Hammer, because if you're in the need for a, uh, new hammer, um, go check out Frank Anita at two bastards, Smithian supply.
00:21:51
Denis Tyrell
Um, they have the, uh, fat peen lineup for all your needs. Um, the, and again, Matt, that was a good one. The Peroni, the curvy, the curvy peens here, the fat peen, the cross, the straight, the diagonal, uh, they got all, everything that you need, uh, for all of your, hammering pleasure.
00:22:12
Denis Tyrell
um, Dennis and I's go-to handle, um, hammer. Um, so make sure you go check them out.
00:22:16
Grippy McGripperston
Do they have a ribbed bean?
00:22:18
Denis Tyrell
What's that there?
00:22:19
Grippy McGripperston
they have a ribbed bean?
00:22:21
Denis Tyrell
Well, yeah, obviously the handles is, is ripped for everyone.
00:22:26
Coy Baker
That's how you make Ladder Damascus.
00:22:26
Denis Tyrell
There
00:22:28
Coy Baker
got the ribbed peen.
00:22:30
Grippy McGripperston
There you go.
00:22:31
Denis Tyrell
we go.
00:22:31
Coy Baker
no
00:22:33
Denis Tyrell
ah
00:22:34
Grippy McGripperston
That took you a minute, Jared.
00:22:35
Denis Tyrell
It did. i was right in the middle of ah trying to wrap that up, but, uh,
00:22:39
Grippy McGripperston
and
00:22:40
Denis Tyrell
Good deal. That's what you guys are here for.
00:22:41
Grippy McGripperston
There's another one there.
00:22:41
Denis Tyrell
So I love it.
00:22:42
Coy Baker
We're here to derail it all. Because ain't it grand to have a fat peen in your hand, baby.
00:22:45
Denis Tyrell
to have There's nothing better than hearing somebody else say that. Yeah.
00:22:51
Grippy McGripperston
Can't say I relate. Never never had that pleasure.
00:22:53
Coy Baker
I got you.
00:22:53
Denis Tyrell
yeah
00:22:57
Denis Tyrell
I think admit is the is the word. I can't admit. But it's all good. So, yeah.
00:23:04
Grippy McGripperston
a
00:23:05
Denis Tyrell
um So how how long have you been? How long have you been? or when did you start, Matt? I guess that's kind of.
00:23:11
Grippy McGripperston
I started stabilizing wood in 2017. So actually started in 2017, started making knives, started i thinking I was going to be like the next big knife maker. uh, that obviously didn't really work out, um, which is fine.
00:23:25
Grippy McGripperston
Um, so yeah, I started making knives in 2017, started realizing how expensive handle material was at about the same time.
00:23:26
Denis Tyrell
I relate.
00:23:33
Grippy McGripperston
And so i started buying a little bit of wood here and there and bought some stabilizing equipment and quickly amassed way too much wood and, uh, said I should probably sell some of this off. So I started selling stuff and I'm like, Oh, Hey, I can actually sell this stuff. Other people will buy it. And so I did that, uh, for a while and,
00:23:51
Grippy McGripperston
actually like the end of like 23 into 24, I was ready to just sell everything because wood wasn't selling anymore. And I'm like, I don't really have time for knives at this point in life. And I was like, you know, I've always had this idea of throwing rubber and resin and seeing what happens. And so I tried, poured like a little mold and took it out the bandsaw, cut it.
00:24:14
Grippy McGripperston
was like, huh, all right, this is interesting, but nothing crazy. And I was like, well, maybe I need to wash the dust off of it. So I took it into the sink and I washed the dust off of it. And when it got wet, it was crazy grippy.
00:24:27
Grippy McGripperston
So I called my wife over and I'm like, feel this. And then feel the dry one. And then feel this one again. She's like, holy crap, that's really grippy. That's pretty cool. And just walked away and I'm like, huh, there might be something to this.
00:24:41
Grippy McGripperston
So I actually took a few little pieces to our local knife show and this was showing some of my maker buddies. And they're like, yeah, I'd put that on a knife 100% of the time. like all right well i'll make some and we'll take the blade show and see what it does and so blade show 24 we had took 180 sets of scales and i sold 166 and uh i was like oh okay there's definitely something there and uh so to then i kind of was like all right we're gonna keep chasing this and um i have all sorts of ideas in the head and
00:25:01
Denis Tyrell
wow
00:25:02
Coy Baker
Damn.
00:25:15
Grippy McGripperston
like I'll play with that and play with that and play with that. And that's how the 3d stuff came along. That's how the colored rubber came along. And, um, yeah, so it's just, uh, gone from there. And, I don't even know how much we took this year.
00:25:29
Grippy McGripperston
It took way too fricking much is because I brought way too much home, but, um, had a absolute banger of a year. Um, so I'm really excited to see how the next year goes and, uh, just,
00:25:40
Coy Baker
Yeah, you're you but your Bladeshow table was stacked to the T's. I mean, like, you walk by, it was like ah a whole wall of grip tech.
00:25:45
Grippy McGripperston
Oh yeah.
00:25:48
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
00:25:48
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:25:48
Grippy McGripperston
And I had a six cubic foot boxes underneath the table still too.
00:25:53
Coy Baker
Uh-huh, uh-huh.
00:25:53
Grippy McGripperston
So I brought 10 cubic foot boxes and we went back home with like a six and a half cubic feet of material still. So I'm like, all right, I know what I need to bring next year about half of that, but I'm hoping I'll have a booth next year and we'll probably take about the same.
00:26:08
Coy Baker
I was...
00:26:08
Grippy McGripperston
And, um, yeah, hopefully next year.
00:26:09
Coy Baker
I was about to ask when script tech going to a booth sounds like you need the space.
00:26:13
Grippy McGripperston
Um, Actually, no, I didn't go for the booth. I went for two tables. That's right. So I decided two tables was a little easier to manage for me at this point. So, yeah, I might go to a booth eventually, but I kind of wanted to try and stay in the same place and try and get the end table and my table, but I don't know if that's going to happen.
00:26:27
Coy Baker
Yeah. the
00:26:33
Coy Baker
The whole booth is a little bit of ah a racket unless you get a double booth because a single booth is the same size as a regular table, except you have more space behind you to sit and that's it.
00:26:42
Denis Tyrell
Behind you? Yeah. Yep.
00:26:44
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
00:26:45
Coy Baker
And they don't provide anything. It's literally just a carpeted box. There's nothing in it.
00:26:48
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
00:26:49
Coy Baker
No tables, no chairs, no nothing. So it's it's more work.
00:26:52
Grippy McGripperston
I kind of got to crunch and crunch and like that square footage and like, okay, let's look at a floor plan. I'm like, you know, i think it works better for a table because I can still use my same banner pulls and, you know, I can keep pretty much everything the same. All I have to do is buy another display shelf and another tablecloth and You know, so I think that's going to work out probably for the next little while um and we'll see where it goes, but.
00:27:13
Coy Baker
right
00:27:21
Coy Baker
Cool. Do you know, do you have your stuff from, for next year already?
00:27:22
Denis Tyrell
That's awesome.
00:27:25
Coy Baker
do you know where you're going to be at for next year?
00:27:27
Grippy McGripperston
No, I don't because I'm adding a table, they can't guarantee me the same place. I was trying to stay basically in the same place.
00:27:33
Coy Baker
Oh, right.
00:27:36
Grippy McGripperston
I kind of liked the baller room. It seems to have really good foot traffic for me. um Like, I mean, I was like two or three guys deep all yeah all weekend, which that's a lot for me.
00:27:48
Coy Baker
That whole room really was, i don't know why, but this year the ballroom was like the place to be.
00:27:48
Denis Tyrell
Ayo.
00:27:53
Coy Baker
Like all the cool cats were over there.
00:27:54
Denis Tyrell
I agree. I agree.
00:27:56
Grippy McGripperston
I mean, um I mean, it was, I walk over to the big room and I'd come back and, like I'm getting all these alerts for sales cause my wife's at the table and I'm just like, holy shit, I just need to leave the table cause you're selling everything.
00:28:08
Grippy McGripperston
And I'd come back, there's literally like a line and i'm like, holy shit. Um, like it's, it's really, uh, just mind boggling to me. Um, like it's still imposter syndrome going on over here. So, um, but it's exciting. I'm, I'm excited to kind of spread out a little bit more next year too. Cause it was like 10 pounds of shit in a five pound bag this year on the table.
00:28:30
Grippy McGripperston
Um, but,
00:28:31
Coy Baker
Right on.
00:28:32
Grippy McGripperston
Should be exciting. Should be good.
00:28:35
Coy Baker
Right on. Right on.
00:28:38
Denis Tyrell
Well, that is an incredible

Matt's Journey and Product Innovation

00:28:40
Denis Tyrell
story. What what ah what a ride, right? from From about to cash it all in to, hey, let me try this and stumble upon...
00:28:47
Coy Baker
Mm-hmm.
00:28:48
Denis Tyrell
you know, some great innovation that has caught fire and, and now I'm setting you off into some amazing new territory, man. It's a, it's, it's an inspiring story, man.
00:28:56
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
00:28:58
Denis Tyrell
It is, it's and been and a pleasure to watch. um
00:29:01
Grippy McGripperston
I appreciate it.
00:29:01
Denis Tyrell
And, and despite what Koi says, dude, I think you're, you're awesome dude and deserving of all of that.
00:29:05
Coy Baker
ah
00:29:07
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:29:08
Coy Baker
Hey, I gave him a glowing review when you asked me if you should ask him on the show.
00:29:11
Denis Tyrell
we
00:29:13
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
00:29:13
Coy Baker
Uh-huh,
00:29:15
Denis Tyrell
You did. You did. I was more, I was more concerned with, cause I, we had a great talk at, um ah excuse me, at Neil's house.
00:29:17
Coy Baker
uh-huh.
00:29:26
Denis Tyrell
And I was like, okay, dude, dude's cool.
00:29:26
Grippy McGripperston
so
00:29:27
Denis Tyrell
du Dude's cool guy. i just didn't know if he, if you guys knew each other. So, but I, I should have known better.
00:29:31
Coy Baker
yeah
00:29:33
Denis Tyrell
Everybody knows and loves Koi. So, Oh,
00:29:37
Coy Baker
I've actually known Matt for quite a while before Grip Tech.
00:29:40
Denis Tyrell
oh
00:29:40
Grippy McGripperston
yeah
00:29:40
Coy Baker
Yeah, we we met in a group, an Instagram group that was started by Sharky, Flying Shark Knives.
00:29:41
Grippy McGripperston
and
00:29:46
Grippy McGripperston
yeah yeah gosh that's probably 2018.
00:29:47
Denis Tyrell
okay Wow.
00:29:48
Coy Baker
Yeah, we that's how we met. And then we didn't talk for a while. But that was a yeah that was a long time ago.
00:29:52
Grippy McGripperston
i don't know
00:29:56
Coy Baker
I've known him longer than I've known you, Jared.
00:29:58
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:29:58
Grippy McGripperston
then koi got famous and i wasn't cool enough for him so
00:30:02
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:30:02
Coy Baker
What's
00:30:02
Denis Tyrell
Tell me about it.
00:30:03
Coy Baker
up
00:30:05
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:30:07
Coy Baker
Not famous. Not famous. That's so not true.
00:30:12
Denis Tyrell
I'm letting that silence just sit because everybody's going bullshit. Bullshit.
00:30:16
Coy Baker
ah
00:30:17
Grippy McGripperston
Well, just choked him out and spit laughing, so, you know, no big deal.
00:30:19
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, exactly.
00:30:22
Coy Baker
Oh my god.
00:30:23
Denis Tyrell
And nobody knows Marekko either. Yeah, you know, that's cool.
00:30:25
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
00:30:25
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:30:28
Coy Baker
Well, I had ah i had ah a really shit week.
00:30:29
Grippy McGripperston
Hey.

Power Company Ordeal at Baker Forge

00:30:31
Coy Baker
going to bring the podcast down for a little bit just because had a terrible week with Power companies. Can anybody relate? Raise your hand. Goodness.
00:30:39
Denis Tyrell
And this segment, we're going to call the Dennis segment. So go on ahead, Dennis.
00:30:43
Coy Baker
No, don't put that on me. Come on now. um All right. So, Dennis segment brought to you by Baker Forge and Tool, makers of the...
00:30:53
Denis Tyrell
aye
00:30:59
Denis Tyrell
I had a horrible week. It was devastating.
00:31:03
Grippy McGripperston
I was trying to drink there, Coy.
00:31:06
Coy Baker
Oh, man. All right. yeah It is a shame that you don't have access to that board, Jared.
00:31:14
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, I know.
00:31:14
Coy Baker
That's your board.
00:31:15
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. this
00:31:19
Denis Tyrell
All right.
00:31:20
Coy Baker
Yep. Did you hear it, hear it?
00:31:21
Denis Tyrell
Okay.
00:31:25
Coy Baker
all right so we All right.
00:31:25
Grippy McGripperston
Thank you.
00:31:27
Coy Baker
So we've been setting up this stainless production line. Everybody knows. Everybody's been waiting for it. It's been taking forever. hundreds Yeah, so lots of hiccups.
00:31:38
Coy Baker
This week was the power company. So a little backstory. um The new production line, of course, needs more power to run all the machines. Our current three-phase panel didn't have quite enough room in it for all of the breakers that were necessary to put ah all these machines on.
00:31:54
Coy Baker
So I've been talking to my electric, my electricians, ah commercial electricians who've done all of our electrical work over the last couple of years.
00:31:54
Grippy McGripperston
Thank you.
00:32:04
Coy Baker
Love these guys. Talked to them two months ago about getting this all lined up. They started running conduit, putting in disconnects, all of that. Well, um he told me, hey, you're going to a new three-phase panel.
00:32:16
Coy Baker
No problem. He got everything on order. And he, two weeks ago, said, hey, I just called Blue Ridge Energy, which is our power company, and said, just to tell them, hey, we're putting another line in. need you bring another line from the Transformers up on the pole.
00:32:32
Coy Baker
ah to give us power. And the power companies told them, you know, can't do that. You're at max capacity on those transformers as it is with that building.
00:32:41
Denis Tyrell
Oh, you're from from the supply here maxed out from the source.
00:32:44
Coy Baker
front From the transformers. So the transformers on our poles have a certain amount of amperage volume that they can move from the supply of the city or town or whatever.
00:32:57
Coy Baker
And so apparently those transformers were already maxed out with what we were drawing from them.
00:33:03
Denis Tyrell
Ooh.
00:33:03
Coy Baker
And so he said, the power company said, you need to upgrade your transformers to larger volume transformers in order to do anything else, any other growth of any power whatsoever.
00:33:16
Coy Baker
And so we're dead in the water until you write Blue Ridge Energy a check for 30 grand and they won't lift a finger until that happens. And this is, you know, week months into the stainless production line already.
00:33:30
Coy Baker
We just randomly found this out when he called them to ask, hey, we need to get the schedule to hook the line up to the pole. And they told him, no, you got to have upgrade your transformers. So fun.
00:33:43
Coy Baker
ah Went down to Blue Ridge, double checked. Sure enough, that's the case. Wrote him a check because that's what we had to do. And they said, all right, well we'll be able to get to you in about two weeks. And I said, right, sooner the better, because I'm waiting on this. And I got a lot riding on this.
00:34:00
Coy Baker
So let's as soon as you can. But stipulation, you need to call me to schedule this. Because part of what they have to do is they have to cut all of our 480 three-phase power while they do the switchover and hang the new transformers, which means all of my big machines will go down while they do this.
00:34:18
Coy Baker
So I said, I need heads up. And you need to schedule this with me so that I can schedule it with our production team.
00:34:27
Coy Baker
So it took them forever to actually show up. Kept calling. We're busy. We'll get to in a minute or a couple of days. Back and forth. Anyway, last Friday they or ah last week they said Friday we'll be there.
00:34:40
Coy Baker
7 a.m. m to start. i was like, perfect. Boom. We made plans, made the schedule. We don't work Friday. The production team, blacksmith team, doesn't work Fridays anyway. We work 410 so they get Fridays off.
00:34:51
Grippy McGripperston
Okay.
00:34:51
Coy Baker
So i was like, that's perfect. going show up on a day we're not using the Bing machine. So perfect. No shows on Friday, of course. Monday rolls around. No shows.
00:35:02
Coy Baker
I call him Monday and was like, hey, nobody showed up Friday. I got to schedule this again because it sounds like you're going to show up in the middle of the week. What's it look like? He's like, it's probably going to be Friday again of the following week.
00:35:16
Coy Baker
Well, here's where it gets interesting. I show up Tuesday morning of this week. And there they are.
00:35:22
Grippy McGripperston
Oh no.
00:35:22
Coy Baker
They showed up at 7 a.m. unannounced, cut the 480 power, and started ripping down transformers and cutting ground to run the new lines to the building. So, unexpectedly, we lost 480 in the middle of the week um and had to send two people home, first thing, because...
00:35:41
Coy Baker
There's a lot we can't do ah without power. Most things we can't do without power. Oh, but it keeps getting worse. um
00:35:49
Grippy McGripperston
um no
00:35:49
Coy Baker
This is a long story. Y'all bear with me here. So we, I'm happy that they're here, you know, right? It's taken so long to get them there. They're doing the work.
00:36:01
Coy Baker
Sure. We had to send two guys home. That's annoying. Production's a little screwed up, but it's just a day. We'll make it happen. They're here. Thank God. Around 2 PM in the afternoon, They come in said, all right, well, the transformers are up.
00:36:14
Coy Baker
We turned it on and ah wrong voltage. And we just fried a bunch of stuff on the outside of your building.
00:36:19
Denis Tyrell
Oh, Lord.
00:36:20
Coy Baker
Cooked a bunch of complicated things.
00:36:20
Grippy McGripperston
Oh, my God.
00:36:22
Coy Baker
I wasn't, I didn't, I didn't ask questions. I was just like, so what does this mean? How, how much longer are we going to be down for there? Well, we can get new transformers and then replacement parts we need here at 7 a.m. tomorrow.
00:36:34
Coy Baker
And we'll have the power back up by 9 a.m. i was like, okay, thank God. That sounds great. I scheduled the guys 9am. We're good to go. We're back up and running next day.
00:36:47
Coy Baker
They're a no show.
00:36:49
Denis Tyrell
Oh, Lord.
00:36:49
Coy Baker
They don't show up at nine eight or at 7am when they're supposed to 9am rolls around and I call them. I'm like, where are you guys? Cause I have no power.
00:37:00
Coy Baker
The wrong transformers are still on the pole. I still have cooked wiring on the outside of my building. And, uh, they said, well, we had a company meeting this morning and, uh, you know we'll They're just now leaving and they have to go all the way to the other county to go get the new Transformers.
00:37:14
Grippy McGripperston
Jeez.
00:37:14
Coy Baker
So they'll be there about noon. So I send two more guys home again for the day because we you don't have 480 again all day. So they eventually showed back up late that afternoon, got the Transformers up and the power's back on for our normal machines and we're standing ready for the new production line once those parts show up. so Anyway, that's my spule for the week. I guess I did lots of screaming and cussing.
00:37:43
Coy Baker
I know I sounded together when I said all that, but it was very obnoxious, trying, problematic week. So, anyway.
00:37:51
Grippy McGripperston
That is rough. And power companies are just like, I don't know, some of the hardest to deal with.
00:37:59
Coy Baker
Yes, and it's like they're almost like they're entitled because they know you have to buy the power from them.
00:38:03
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
00:38:05
Coy Baker
Like there's not another option.
00:38:06
Grippy McGripperston
Right.
00:38:08
Coy Baker
um
00:38:08
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:38:09
Coy Baker
Fortunately, well, not fortunately, but I i am writing up an invoice that I will be walking into Blue Ridge Energy next week and sitting down with whoever's in charge of the office area there.
00:38:21
Coy Baker
And I will be handing them an invoice for loss of loss of production time and work um for their negligence. Because I was very clear with them about needing to be scheduled ah due to production times and not...
00:38:36
Coy Baker
being told when the power is going to be down and being, you know, keyed into all of that. And then there are issues with putting, so the, the, uh, transformers they put up that were wrong were the wrong voltage.
00:38:46
Coy Baker
They literally just put up the wrong one, wrong voltage transformers without even paying attention.
00:38:51
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, that's total incompetence. That's incredible.
00:38:53
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:38:55
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:38:55
Coy Baker
Very much incompetent.
00:38:56
Coy Baker
And so they're going they're going to get a bill and we'll settle, I'm sure, but I'm going to get some of that money back because I lost two days. So,
00:39:05
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
00:39:06
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Over like a five day ordeal of them not showing up as well.
00:39:06
Grippy McGripperston
I
00:39:10
Denis Tyrell
Like, yeah.
00:39:11
Coy Baker
Yeah, well, they said they get to it in two weeks, and then it was just a matter of trying to nail them down and just drug out.
00:39:12
Denis Tyrell
that
00:39:16
Coy Baker
and Oh, we were doing some underground work for a school, and I was like, I don't care. Kids can go to school in the dark.
00:39:21
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:39:23
Coy Baker
Come on. God.
00:39:26
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. um reading. That's just overrated. Get out of here.
00:39:29
Grippy McGripperston
don't need to read.
00:39:30
Coy Baker
They can read in the dark.
00:39:30
Denis Tyrell
no
00:39:31
Coy Baker
They got iPhones. Anyway.
00:39:33
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Yeah.
00:39:34
Grippy McGripperston
sunny out isn't it
00:39:34
Coy Baker
oh
00:39:36
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:39:36
Coy Baker
Yeah, take them outside. God. Anyway, that's my rant.
00:39:39
Grippy McGripperston
fresh air might kill them so everything's good now though right
00:39:40
Coy Baker
Power company. freaking
00:39:45
Coy Baker
everything's good now i mean we had some delays on the three-phase panel parts for my personal electricians uh so our debt our timeline for getting power to the new production line is is behind schedule due to three phase 480 volt parts apparently in square d have to become custom made um it's incredibly big panel
00:40:07
Denis Tyrell
Obviously. Yeah.
00:40:08
Coy Baker
Yeah, I don't know. This is all over my head, but this is what the electricians are telling me is that they're being custom made in Texas and the production timeline on those got slowed down somehow. Anyway, we're still waiting for some of the gut parts of that panel.
00:40:24
Coy Baker
And so we don't have power yet to the production line, but all the tools and everything's there. I'm sure everybody's seen the new power hammer standing up. um
00:40:33
Grippy McGripperston
sexy.
00:40:34
Coy Baker
Yeah, and she's ready to rock and roll, but I have not yet... heard her breathe because we don't have power to the air compressor that will run it. So we're on standby.
00:40:45
Grippy McGripperston
That's a big air compressor too.
00:40:48
Coy Baker
Yeah. 50 horse screw compressor, uh, pushing 250 CFM at 120 PSI. So through two inch schedule 40 pipe.
00:40:56
Grippy McGripperston
Wow.
00:41:01
Coy Baker
So big lines.
00:41:01
Grippy McGripperston
That'll air a tire up.
00:41:04
Coy Baker
Yeah. That'll blow your tire up.
00:41:06
Grippy McGripperston
yeah Let me just fill my bike tire up with that.
00:41:07
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:41:09
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:41:12
Coy Baker
yeah we got a whole YouTube video coming out on the installation of this hammer because gosh I started the project of putting this hammer in ah almost a full year ago at this point so we have footage
00:41:24
Grippy McGripperston
Oh wow. That's when he started digging the hole and for the footings and everything?
00:41:25
Denis Tyrell
Hmm.
00:41:28
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, wow.
00:41:29
Coy Baker
that the ham hammer showed up and we took measurements and started cutting up the floor was ah is almost exactly a year ago now so
00:41:35
Grippy McGripperston
Wow. Wow.
00:41:37
Coy Baker
It's been a long process. That video is going to be called the $100,000 hammer because I have officially crossed a six-figure mark into that hammer expense-wise. So that is our nickname for it because...
00:41:49
Denis Tyrell
So when going have stainless dude? Like great story, but like we're really all, everybody wants to know, like,
00:41:53
Coy Baker
and
00:41:55
Grippy McGripperston
Jared. Hey, Jared.
00:41:57
Denis Tyrell
yeah
00:41:57
Grippy McGripperston
Jared. don't Don't you have some stainless that you haven't used yet?
00:42:01
Denis Tyrell
I do, but I'm worried about the people that I'm worried about the people that don't have ah the access to Koi and Dennis.
00:42:02
Grippy McGripperston
Don't be greedy.
00:42:07
Grippy McGripperston
Oh, man of the people.
00:42:09
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Yeah.
00:42:11
Coy Baker
So current timeline is first week of September. So not far off. A couple of weeks here in August.
00:42:17
Denis Tyrell
ah so We're almost here. Hold your breath. It's coming.
00:42:20
Grippy McGripperston
right.
00:42:21
Coy Baker
As long as... but And I've been saying couple of you know a week to a month ah couple of weeks to a month for like the last four months. But every time I say that, something comes up and delays us three weeks.
00:42:34
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:42:35
Coy Baker
I mean, it's it's just never-ending. Power Company is only one factor in that. No, so Hurricane Helene flooded the whole flooded our foundation.
00:42:40
Denis Tyrell
Right. But I mean, yeah. Yeah. yeah
00:42:46
Coy Baker
So that was a major setback.
00:42:48
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
00:42:50
Denis Tyrell
I think you, we're at the finish line here though. I mean, that it is, it's more, more present ah than it has been. So I think we're all excited about this.
00:43:00
Denis Tyrell
kind of what I'm trying to get at, little but little, little ball busting, you know, but
00:43:00
Grippy McGripperston
oh yeah.
00:43:03
Coy Baker
Yes.
00:43:05
Grippy McGripperston
I'm waiting for a shop visit after it's all running. So.
00:43:09
Coy Baker
Yes, because the cool machines will be up and running.
00:43:09
Denis Tyrell
yeah.
00:43:11
Coy Baker
and
00:43:12
Grippy McGripperston
And your stress level will be back.
00:43:12
Denis Tyrell
You don't want to be. Oh,
00:43:14
Coy Baker
Yeah.
00:43:15
Denis Tyrell
oh I thought you just wanted to like, not, not see the shop in the dark.
00:43:18
Grippy McGripperston
Well, really, I wanted to see what kind of work that hammer does on a finger.
00:43:21
Coy Baker
As
00:43:24
Denis Tyrell
There you go.
00:43:24
Grippy McGripperston
So, you know.
00:43:27
Coy Baker
long it ain't my finger.
00:43:29
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:43:29
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, I'll bring a fake finger.
00:43:33
Coy Baker
ah hot dog.
00:43:35
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, there you go
00:43:36
Denis Tyrell
Fake finger?
00:43:38
Grippy McGripperston
Actually had a
00:43:39
Denis Tyrell
but Just get Amazon delivery of a fake finger?
00:43:42
Grippy McGripperston
no, I actually had a anatomically correct arm for from my first job as a nurse practitioner in orthopedics. So yeah.
00:43:52
Coy Baker
Bring it.
00:43:52
Grippy McGripperston
I don't know where it went.
00:43:52
Coy Baker
Let's do it. That'll make a hell of a reel.
00:43:55
Denis Tyrell
they called up and i was gonna say They call that the stranger in some worlds.
00:43:55
Grippy McGripperston
There's a skeleton skeleton arm, but had all the ligaments and everything.
00:43:59
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:44:01
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
00:44:04
Coy Baker
Stranger. God.
00:44:07
Coy Baker
ah
00:44:08
Grippy McGripperston
It was kind of bony, you know?
00:44:09
Coy Baker
yes
00:44:10
Denis Tyrell
right yeah Some people got to sit on their, the real one. This guy's got in the drawer.
00:44:17
Grippy McGripperston
Perks. There's perks to me in healthcare, man.
00:44:21
Denis Tyrell
That's awesome.
00:44:21
Coy Baker
ah
00:44:22
Denis Tyrell
i Oh,
00:44:27
Grippy McGripperston
Well derailed. Well derailed.
00:44:28
Denis Tyrell
That was pretty good.
00:44:30
Coy Baker
yeah
00:44:30
Denis Tyrell
So cory tell it tell us what tell us what we got coming.
00:44:30
Coy Baker
so
00:44:33
Denis Tyrell
ah ah ah do we Are we ah drops coming? no No delays on that? What do we got coming up ah this week?
00:44:39
Coy Baker
No delays on that. Oh, what's coming up this week? Actually, let me pull up the schedule because I actually i don't know off the top of my head. They just tell me, hey, you need to film this. We're dropping this now. So this week's drop is Coppermine Nickel Shimmed.
00:44:55
Coy Baker
in ladder and ripple so this is that classic copper my clad steel with a really thick band of nickel shim right in the middle with a uh adcrv2 core in ladder and ripple so that's this week's drop make sure you download the app which thank you jared for pushing the app you've been a very diligent host when it comes to reading the ad on on that specific
00:45:11
Grippy McGripperston
Very nice.
00:45:21
Grippy McGripperston
can get one of your sponsor's stuff, right?
00:45:23
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:45:23
Grippy McGripperston
Thanks.
00:45:24
Coy Baker
yeah
00:45:24
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Yeah.
00:45:27
Grippy McGripperston
ah
00:45:29
Coy Baker
but But I say that because over 60% of all of our buyers buy off the app. So
00:45:38
Grippy McGripperston
ah
00:45:39
Coy Baker
we lost Jared.
00:45:41
Denis Tyrell
Jesus.
00:45:41
Grippy McGripperston
yep
00:45:41
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. I have no response.
00:45:42
Coy Baker
yeah
00:45:43
Grippy McGripperston
I love you, Jared.
00:45:43
Grippy McGripperston
I love you
00:45:43
Denis Tyrell
Like, I cannot, I have nothing to say except, I'm sorry.
00:45:47
Grippy McGripperston
That's all right. I laugh about it every time you mess it up, and I thought about not correcting you just to see how long it would go.
00:45:53
Denis Tyrell
and would It would have went forever.
00:45:55
Coy Baker
so That's why you're here, Matt. He's literally needed somebody to set him straight for the record.
00:46:00
Denis Tyrell
was classic.
00:46:01
Grippy McGripperston
be around next week. It'll be all right.
00:46:02
Denis Tyrell
That was classic. That was good.
00:46:04
Coy Baker
Well, Dennis will mix it up next week because he doesn't know.
00:46:05
Grippy McGripperston
um
00:46:08
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:46:09
Grippy McGripperston
He's going to have to listen.
00:46:09
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Yeah. Or he'll be like, i I don't know why is he changing it anyways.
00:46:16
Coy Baker
but
00:46:17
Grippy McGripperston
Because I really don't want to violate a trademark.
00:46:17
Denis Tyrell
That sounds confusing.
00:46:19
Grippy McGripperston
Thank you.
00:46:20
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:46:22
Grippy McGripperston
I didn't want to change it.
00:46:22
Denis Tyrell
have Yeah.
00:46:25
Coy Baker
Yeah, necessary evil, unfortunately.
00:46:27
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:46:28
Grippy McGripperston
So what gator piss do you use to etch that?
00:46:28
Denis Tyrell
All right.
00:46:29
Coy Baker
Had to have it.
00:46:32
Coy Baker
Ooh, good call. ah For this, would be the Gator Piss Heavy. Yeah, Gator Piss Heavy for the Copper Mine Nickel Shem because there's no 15 and 20 or Damascus in it, so the heavy will blacken everything else and leave your Copper and Nickel shining bright, baby.
00:46:35
Denis Tyrell
Hmm. Hmm.
00:46:36
Grippy McGripperston
Oh.
00:46:50
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, like a diamond. Oh, sorry.
00:46:52
Coy Baker
Like a diamond.
00:46:54
Denis Tyrell
That's Rihanna, guys. I guess you weren't already. just made Koi sing a Rihanna song. This is great.
00:46:59
Coy Baker
Hey, I've done worse.
00:47:00
Grippy McGripperston
Can't say I knew that was a song.
00:47:01
Coy Baker
It's all good.
00:47:02
Denis Tyrell
There we go.
00:47:03
Grippy McGripperston
not Not quite my style.
00:47:04
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. playlist is absolutely
00:47:05
Coy Baker
oh
00:47:08
Coy Baker
Matt's denying it. He's denying it.
00:47:10
Grippy McGripperston
No. help
00:47:13
Coy Baker
Faker.
00:47:15
Denis Tyrell
amazing. my playlist is absolutely disappointing to the entire world. There is so much inappropriate and not approved by this community for sure.
00:47:30
Coy Baker
hu
00:47:31
Denis Tyrell
You will go from Korn to Rihanna very quickly.
00:47:32
Coy Baker
All
00:47:36
Coy Baker
right. We love you anyway, Jared. It's okay.
00:47:38
Denis Tyrell
Thank you.
00:47:38
Grippy McGripperston
all right.
00:47:39
Denis Tyrell
And I appreciate it.
00:47:39
Grippy McGripperston
You got to balance the knife making music with the golf music. you know, we understand.
00:47:43
Denis Tyrell
Yes, yes, yes. Yeah, I get it. Is Gator pi our gatorator Skin still up and rolling back in stock? Okay.
00:47:52
Coy Baker
It is. it is.
00:47:53
Denis Tyrell
okay
00:47:53
Coy Baker
So, yeah, so we launched it at Blade Show, sold a crap load of it, but we had held ah like 100 and some units back to sell when we got back from Blade Show. But then they immediately sold out, and then we were out for a little while because our boxes, excuse me, for any of you who have bought Gator Skin, it comes in a really nice magnetic flip lid box.
00:48:14
Coy Baker
Very proud of that packaging. We worked really hard on that packaging, and it it's perfect for a nice elite product like this. But unfortunately, it takes forever to get more shipments of it. And it just took off faster than we anticipated. And so we got caught behind the curveball on waiting for more packaging ah for the Gator Skin, which is why it took like three or four weeks after Blade Show to come back in the stock.
00:48:38
Coy Baker
But we bought plenty of it. So we're fully stocked up now and will be for quite a while.
00:48:44
Grippy McGripperston
Nice. Those boxes are legit, too.
00:48:47
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, that's really fancy.
00:48:48
Grippy McGripperston
I need to test some on GripX and see what that does.
00:48:48
Coy Baker
ah
00:48:54
Coy Baker
the Like putting GripX as the box or in the box?
00:48:57
Grippy McGripperston
no, no, no. Putting Gator Skin on GripX.
00:49:00
Coy Baker
Oh! I thought were talking about the box.
00:49:01
Grippy McGripperston
Me either.
00:49:02
Coy Baker
Okay. Alright, I'm tracking. Alright. I imagine just you should absorb into it to some degree.
00:49:07
Denis Tyrell
yeah i Yeah, I thought you were having some box envy, but no, you're you're actually like, yeah.
00:49:08
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah. Well, yeah, I am, but...
00:49:11
Coy Baker
that
00:49:13
Grippy McGripperston
I'm not raising the price of grip X enough to pay for that box. So sorry.
00:49:16
Coy Baker
Ha ha ha.
00:49:20
Denis Tyrell
That's great.
00:49:20
Coy Baker
yeah Yeah, it's actually those boxes are kind of impressively affordable when you I mean, you got to buy a lot of them in volume, though, but they're really not that bad.
00:49:27
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
00:49:30
Coy Baker
Because originally, I kind of tossed that idea. I was like a magnetic box. That's got to be way too expensive. That'll blow my margins. There's no way.
00:49:37
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
00:49:38
Coy Baker
I really started digging into it. It's really not that bad. So and it's classy. ah So classy.
00:49:42
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, it is.
00:49:43
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, it is.
00:49:44
Grippy McGripperston
Here's the problem. I'll get all those boxes and then I'll have to change my name again just to confuse nerd.
00:49:50
Coy Baker
ah
00:49:50
Grippy McGripperston
So, you know, I can't really spring into that.
00:49:55
Coy Baker
If you change your name again, Jared will never recover.
00:49:55
Denis Tyrell
Oh my God. I, yeah, I'll, I'll, I'll melt. That'll be it.
00:50:02
Coy Baker
Yeah.
00:50:03
Grippy McGripperston
oh
00:50:04
Denis Tyrell
I'll need to douse myself in, uh, in gator skin to, just to preserve the, the form that i yeah.
00:50:08
Grippy McGripperston
Here's to hoping I don't have to do that again. Cause that process sucks, but the whole really expensive trademark search came back all clear.
00:50:12
Denis Tyrell
yeah
00:50:14
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:50:18
Grippy McGripperston
So fingers crossed.
00:50:20
Grippy McGripperston
It's not a hundred percent, but.
00:50:20
Denis Tyrell
Good deal.
00:50:21
Coy Baker
Oh, you did you did a legit search.
00:50:23
Grippy McGripperston
Oh yeah.
00:50:23
Coy Baker
Good on you.
00:50:24
Grippy McGripperston
I, yeah. The first time I tried it, i just was like, Oh, I could do this by myself. It's no big deal. Fill out the application, send it in. And then ah they're like, Oh, here's an office action. And I'm like, what's that mean?
00:50:34
Grippy McGripperston
Like, I'm weighing over my head. then I had to get the attorneys involved. So I was like, Oh shit.
00:50:39
Coy Baker
Call the lawyer. Yep, yep.
00:50:42
Grippy McGripperston
That's not as easy as I thought.
00:50:44
Coy Baker
No.
00:50:45
Denis Tyrell
Did they reach out to you or did you just kind of stumble ah upon it?
00:50:45
Coy Baker
Yeah, that all
00:50:48
Denis Tyrell
You got like a cease and desist.
00:50:48
Grippy McGripperston
No, the, um so I didn't get a cease and desist, but that was one of the things that could have happened if I kept using the name. um It didn't happen. I think some people have a misconception that did actually happen, but what happened is, so when you send in an application to the trademark office, the government takes their sweet time and then all of a sudden you get a letter and it's like, oh,
00:51:12
Grippy McGripperston
you can't use that because of this reason. And so they said, Oh, there's already a trademark way too close to that in the same realm. And you can go back and forth and argue with them multiple times, but you have to word it in attorney speak. And I don't word anything in attorney speaks. So, um, once I wasn't even sure, like what they were really telling me, except for like, Hey, you really shouldn't be using that or it's not trademarkable.
00:51:40
Grippy McGripperston
Um, and you know i could have probably it's possible i could have used it forever without any problem um but i couldn't get it trademarked and i thought it was a unique enough product that i needed to get it patented and trademarked so um and there's a whole lot of marketing that goes into all of that as well um so i was like well i think doing and it it worked in my favor in the long run, because say I get five years down the line and I get big enough that this other company is like, Oh, like what's this stuff. And then I get a cease and desist. And then I have five years of business and five years of manufacturers using it. And like, everyone has to change everything.
00:52:22
Grippy McGripperston
So like, i already had to tell all my wholesalers like, Hey, you got to change the name.
00:52:22
Coy Baker
Yeah.
00:52:25
Grippy McGripperston
Like, I'm sorry, this really sucks. Um, I've done my due diligence this time. And like, this should be the name that I stick with forever. Um, but I couldn't, see me going and talking to a huge knife manufacturer and being like, Hey, all those, you know, thousands of knives you made um this month with that material on it and everything you've made before, you have to change that. And then you have to call all of your dealers and they have to change that. And, you know, so I was like, well, I need to bite the bullet right now, cut my losses, change the name, make sure I have something that's actually, you know, it's 99.9% trademarkable.
00:53:03
Grippy McGripperston
um You know, there's always that 0.1% that the government's going to be like, we don't really like you. So you can't use that either. It's probably not going to happen, but there's still a chance, unfortunately.
00:53:12
Coy Baker
But yeah, I mean, way, way better idea to do it now. I mean, you're right.
00:53:16
Grippy McGripperston
Yes.
00:53:17
Coy Baker
Before Griptech is a, you know, $200 million dollars company, you got to do it. So.
00:53:22
Grippy McGripperston
Right. Yeah. I got to thinking about it. I'm like, it's, I know it's the right decision. It's not the one I want, but it's the right decision. So, but speaking of GRIPX,
00:53:30
Coy Baker
Yeah.
00:53:33
Grippy McGripperston
You know who carries grip X?
00:53:36
Coy Baker
Maritime knife supply.
00:53:37
Grippy McGripperston
Ringo.
00:53:38
Denis Tyrell
What?
00:53:39
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
00:53:39
Denis Tyrell
That is amazing because if you're looking for any knife making supplies of any kind, you should go check out Maritime Knife Supply. Lawrence Lake will ah hook you up. um One of the awesome things about Lawrence is he's he's he's the mayor of our community for sure. If you walk around to any show with him, you'll quickly realize that he he knows more people than you can...
00:54:03
Denis Tyrell
even like fathom, right? Everybody loves the mayor Lawrence Lake, but he's got all the stuff you need abrasives, handle material, grip X. I said it right.
00:54:16
Denis Tyrell
Grip X. I didn't mean.
00:54:17
Grippy McGripperston
I am so proud of you right now.
00:54:19
Denis Tyrell
Thank you so much. ah He's got bigger forge and tool gator piss. He's got everything you need. um And fill up the cart and tell him the boys at triple T sent you.
00:54:32
Coy Baker
He's got steel too from us. I think still he got some ah a while back, a whole bunch of, so Merritt, uh, Lawrence likes to, uh, buy all the weird and odd sizes and a bunch of different steel varieties and then put them all up on his site.
00:54:47
Coy Baker
and don't know if there's still any up there. Um,
00:54:49
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, there's there's a handful. I'm looking at it right now.
00:54:51
Grippy McGripperston
So he's got some Firestorm Ripple, some AABL Core Coppermai. ah Yeah, quite a lot.
00:54:51
Denis Tyrell
ye
00:54:58
Coy Baker
Oh, the ABL copper mine. We discontinued that rare alert. Go grab that and put in the triple T discount code.
00:55:03
Grippy McGripperston
Oh, there's one bar left, so.
00:55:07
Coy Baker
Somebody go snag it.
00:55:08
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, for sure. Get on it. Do it. That's our, that's our, our order. Do it. It works guys.
00:55:15
Grippy McGripperston
where
00:55:16
Denis Tyrell
Do it.
00:55:17
Coy Baker
Do it.
00:55:19
Denis Tyrell
For sure. Koi, when you guys are making all of that awesome pattern welded steel, you're cutting, you're chopping, you're hammering, doing, what what do you guys use to ah to grind all those billets up?
00:55:21
Coy Baker
Yeah.
00:55:26
Coy Baker
Yes.
00:55:33
Coy Baker
ah We use a handful of things, but for all of our hand grinding, we use Ameribraid grinders. And have since the get-go.
00:55:39
Denis Tyrell
Ooh.
00:55:41
Coy Baker
I bought my first Ameribraid in my garage and torn allshed twenty
00:55:42
Denis Tyrell
Yes.
00:55:47
Coy Baker
in 2018? 2017? 2018? Somewhere in there. I bought the the old school ah pipe tube frame one that they made. They discontinued that. They don't think they sell it anymore. But...
00:55:59
Coy Baker
ah I bought an Ameribraid back then and freaking loved it And when we you know built the shop out and expanded, we put in a whole lineup of Ameribraid grinders because I love Eric and Kevin.
00:55:59
Grippy McGripperston
Thank you.
00:56:10
Coy Baker
Those guys are the best. the grinders are top notch. They take care of their customers.
00:56:15
Denis Tyrell
Absolutely.
00:56:15
Coy Baker
um Not that I've actually ever had to call with any sort of issue because I don't think I've ever had a grinder go down. like Those things are workhorses. So if anybody out there is looking for a good grinder, a Maribraid is the way to go. it didn't Didn't Mr. Old Tyrell just get a Maribraid? Didn't he just jump train here?
00:56:33
Denis Tyrell
Yes, he did. He's got the Fastback and all the bells and whistles and attachments and everything. And he's been putting that thing to its paces for yeah a couple months now.
00:56:48
Denis Tyrell
so um And then I have the Hyperdisk as well.
00:56:49
Coy Baker
Yes. Yes.
00:56:52
Denis Tyrell
um The multi... useful attachment heavy uh disc grinding um machine the quick attachments disconnect uh for grinding them mean i i they're just and endlessly ah inventive with with the the products they have um my favorite story is that when i did put that order in for the, um, the hyperdisk.
00:57:19
Denis Tyrell
Um, I got a call from Kevin. Um, and I like to say it because it's very humbling. Um, you know, cause not, you talk about imposters and all that good stuff, but I ordered it as Jared.
00:57:30
Denis Tyrell
calls me back and you know, not that he knew anything about me, but it was just simply, Hey, this is Kevin from Ameribla. I just want to thank you for the order. Let us know if you have any questions, if we can do anything. I was just like, wow, that that's next level.
00:57:41
Coy Baker
Wow.
00:57:43
Denis Tyrell
You don't, you don't get that from every, uh, from every, company. Um, so just, uh,
00:57:49
Coy Baker
Well, you are a bit of a famous podcaster, so maybe that was it.
00:57:52
Denis Tyrell
This was way before we had four listeners. Like way before.
00:57:56
Coy Baker
Right?
00:57:57
Denis Tyrell
I mean, we were maybe at one, maybe zero. Like, yeah. Yeah.
00:58:00
Grippy McGripperston
That's well on your way.
00:58:01
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Yeah.
00:58:03
Grippy McGripperston
Literally just talking to them all.
00:58:03
Coy Baker
Well, for any knife makers out there who don't have a disc sander, please get one. Because it's so, so much better at like finishing up your your flat grinds.
00:58:16
Coy Baker
I mean, when because I mean, we sell an etchant.
00:58:17
Denis Tyrell
yeah
00:58:19
Coy Baker
Obviously, you need a good finish to the etching. And it is so much easier to get a good finish on a blade with a grinder like that. So a disc grinder is necessary.
00:58:27
Denis Tyrell
Yep. Absolutely.
00:58:29
Coy Baker
And marimare makes the best one out there. So.
00:58:32
Denis Tyrell
Absolutely. And it it'll either, um, let you know how good or shitty you are on your, when you come off the grinder.
00:58:40
Coy Baker
That's true. It's show you immediately where your problems are at.
00:58:43
Denis Tyrell
Yep. Ooh, there, that's pretty dishy.
00:58:44
Grippy McGripperston
They are quite honest.
00:58:46
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:58:46
Grippy McGripperston
They are honest.
00:58:48
Denis Tyrell
So,
00:58:49
Coy Baker
I actually visited Ameribraid in California ah in February when I came out there. um i was down in San Diego and they're just outside of San Diego and got to go out there and hang out with those guys and amazing dudes, Eric and Kevin.
00:59:04
Coy Baker
I mean, I got there late near the end of the day. Traffic was terrible. California. um
00:59:10
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
00:59:11
Coy Baker
But ah they showed me around. It was late in the day. All their employees were gone. I felt bad, but they they loved having me, and it was it was a great time. We were out there for very late into the night, so They got a great setup there.
00:59:24
Denis Tyrell
yeah
00:59:26
Coy Baker
It's really cool to go back into a company's back end because, you know, you got these companies out there like Ameribraid, who you see all their products and everything on their socials, but you don't really get to see a lot about the inside of the business, like behind the doors, in the manufacturing, what that looks like.
00:59:43
Coy Baker
um And so it was really cool to to walk in there and see just how all those parts are made and their massive stock of back end inventory for, I mean, even just the hardware, the screws, the bolts, the nuts, all the aluminum stock for all the wheels.
00:59:59
Coy Baker
I don't know I just eat that stuff up. It's really cool to see their operation.
01:00:01
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:00:03
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. That, that is awesome to see. Cause the shit just doesn't happen. and There's a, there's a whole process.
01:00:10
Coy Baker
Yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely.
01:00:17
Denis Tyrell
Well, um, Koi, tell me something bad about Dennis.
01:00:20
Coy Baker
Yeah.
01:00:25
Coy Baker
Oh, okay. So let's see, we covered, we covered gay, we covered Canada. Let's see. What else did we talk about the whole going into Disneyland as an adult?
01:00:36
Coy Baker
That always kind of threw me off.
01:00:36
Denis Tyrell
No. Yeah. and And it's, it's really hard for me to say this because I'm going to pretend like i don't do that myself, but for the sake of this, make a fun of him.
01:00:44
Grippy McGripperston
uh
01:00:45
Denis Tyrell
How lame is that? I mean,
01:00:48
Coy Baker
I personally think adults who go to Disneyland as adults have problems. Now, if you're taking kids, I give a little grace. I give little grace. But there are adults out there who visit Disneyland or Disney World, whatever, as adults to enjoy it.
01:01:03
Coy Baker
And they need to be institutionalized.
01:01:07
Denis Tyrell
or stay in on the, on the, on the property and no and don't come out.
01:01:12
Grippy McGripperston
I'm kind of surprised they gave him citizenship after he must not have put that on the application.
01:01:13
Coy Baker
I'm sorry.
01:01:19
Grippy McGripperston
They should ask that.
01:01:19
Coy Baker
Surely didn't.
01:01:20
Grippy McGripperston
They should ask that.
01:01:20
Coy Baker
They probably
01:01:20
Denis Tyrell
There's gotta be, yeah there's gotta be a Disney box.
01:01:24
Coy Baker
Yeah. ah Disney.
01:01:26
Grippy McGripperston
How many times have you been and how old were you when you went?
01:01:31
Coy Baker
And how many kids are with you? Voluntarily.
01:01:34
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:01:34
Grippy McGripperston
Yes. Oh, yeah.
01:01:34
Denis Tyrell
Voluntarily.
01:01:36
Grippy McGripperston
Voluntarily for sure.
01:01:37
Denis Tyrell
Yes.
01:01:38
Coy Baker
Yeah. I don't know. I just ah can't get over that. so Sorry Dennis. But it is what is.
01:01:46
Coy Baker
You also left poor Jared here to do all this by himself. So nice friend.
01:01:50
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. What a dick.
01:01:52
Grippy McGripperston
I don't feel like Jared had adequate training for this.
01:01:52
Coy Baker
ah
01:01:55
Denis Tyrell
No, Jared is always unprepared for everything he does.
01:02:00
Grippy McGripperston
I didn't say preparation, I said training.
01:02:03
Denis Tyrell
Well, uh,
01:02:04
Coy Baker
Jared, did Dennis at least leave you a key to the shop? So because that's kind of your shop, too. i mean, let's be honest.
01:02:10
Denis Tyrell
It's yeah, it's the best thing about knowing him for sure.
01:02:14
Coy Baker
But he did he leave you a key so that you could you know get some work done if you wanted?
01:02:19
Denis Tyrell
I don't have a key, but I am better friends with Kim than Dennis.
01:02:20
Grippy McGripperston
see
01:02:23
Denis Tyrell
So I'm, I'm good. I got access.
01:02:26
Coy Baker
Oh, good.
01:02:27
Grippy McGripperston
Dennis knows he doesn't need to leave a key because Jared's not going to do any work.
01:02:27
Coy Baker
Excellent.
01:02:30
Grippy McGripperston
so
01:02:30
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, that's true.
01:02:31
Coy Baker
yeah
01:02:31
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:02:33
Grippy McGripperston
He knows better.
01:02:33
Denis Tyrell
um you I may need to profile something.
01:02:33
Grippy McGripperston
Alright,
01:02:35
Denis Tyrell
I mean, yeah, it's not that we don't finish work, Matt.
01:02:37
Grippy McGripperston
fair enough.
01:02:38
Denis Tyrell
Let's get this straight, okay? That's enough of this whole not do it.
01:02:40
Grippy McGripperston
I still need you to submit your Jared drawer to our competition see who has more unfinished profiled knife blanks.
01:02:41
Denis Tyrell
No.
01:02:47
Denis Tyrell
Oh.
01:02:50
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. like Apparently, I can't finish the challenge either.
01:02:52
Grippy McGripperston
I mean, in all fairness, mine are all water jet or laser cut, so there wasn't really much work into that, but
01:02:57
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. No. it's It is impressive, and I and i will do that. That's right.
01:03:00
Grippy McGripperston
Well, these days I'm going to make another knife, but it's not going to be anytime soon.
01:03:01
Denis Tyrell
thank you
01:03:05
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, it might be before me.
01:03:05
Coy Baker
I'll tell you ah tell you who will win that competition, though, of Jareded Blades. That's Jason Knight. If you ever walk into his shop, he has so many blades everywhere.
01:03:13
Grippy McGripperston
Oh.
01:03:17
Grippy McGripperston
Huh.
01:03:18
Coy Baker
Piles and boxes and crates that he just forged out, profiled up, and was like, oh, that looks amazing.
01:03:18
Denis Tyrell
Oh, wow.
01:03:18
Grippy McGripperston
okay
01:03:24
Coy Baker
But, you know what, it's time start something else and starts another one. um i mean, he also teaches classes, you know, so he's probably making stuff in the class that he sets aside. But he has ah an ungodly amount of blades lying around that shop.
01:03:36
Grippy McGripperston
We call that weaponized ADD, okay?
01:03:36
Coy Baker
I love that guy.
01:03:40
Denis Tyrell
That's great. That's fantastic.
01:03:43
Coy Baker
That's perfect.
01:03:45
Denis Tyrell
That is great.
01:03:45
Coy Baker
Adequate description.
01:03:45
Grippy McGripperston
get a lot done, it's just not the right stuff.
01:03:48
Denis Tyrell
Hey, at some point though, we're going to have to you know,
01:03:50
Grippy McGripperston
so It's gonna come in handy.
01:03:51
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. When these things, i mean, if we, if we ever get them, you know, I mean, they're more finished if we can get them in the oven. Right. So if you get these things heat treated, I suggest you go check out even heat kilns, a family owned and operated company since 1948, building the highest quality knife heat treat ovens available.
01:04:00
Grippy McGripperston
and
01:04:10
Denis Tyrell
um They are, available, um, through, uh, maritime. You can go check that out. Like that's one of the things I love about all of our sponsors. You guys are like all ancestral with your product, uh, distribution stuff. It's pretty great.
01:04:24
Denis Tyrell
Uh, but, um, yeah, the, uh, the even heat boys, uh, Spencer, awesome, awesome dude. um ah attends all the shows. Uh, if you haven't had an opportunity to go speak with him, you should do that. Um, he'll set you up.
01:04:37
Denis Tyrell
answer any questions. Another great customer service based company. um And ah yeah, just a badass kiln that'll get your knives all nice and hard.
01:04:50
Coy Baker
I was heat treating a bunch of dyes out of an even heat on Friday, actually.
01:04:51
Grippy McGripperston
Because
01:04:55
Coy Baker
So one of their big HT2 kilns, it's the really big wide ones that are really tall, but not super deep. It's kind of actually for doing stuff like heat treating dyes.
01:05:06
Coy Baker
But we have one of those and love that
01:05:09
Denis Tyrell
that's like

Shoutout to Even Heat and Discounts

01:05:10
Coy Baker
thing.
01:05:10
Denis Tyrell
fa That's like famous people's size.
01:05:10
Grippy McGripperston
guys
01:05:12
Denis Tyrell
That's like Dennis's vertical 11. Yeah.
01:05:14
Coy Baker
Now, now...
01:05:15
Denis Tyrell
so tell me tell me you're famous without telling me you're famous, Coy.
01:05:21
Coy Baker
Well, shout out to heat to Even Heat. They did do a great job. but they had to They rebuilt this one for us because I bought it originally several years ago. And we're notoriously terrible at beating up machines and tooling. And it was shot the hell inside. We had taken so much steel in and out of that that we had worn away pretty much all the block in there.
01:05:42
Coy Baker
And so I contacted them and was like, hey, so I don't really want to buy a brand new kiln, but this one really needs some lovin'. ah what do we do and they said just ship them the old shell and they reline the whole thing and send it back to us and was beautiful
01:05:57
Grippy McGripperston
new coils and everything.
01:05:59
Coy Baker
new coils i kept the uh controller on it because the controller was fine uh all the solid state relays all the electrical components on the exterior we kept because uh those were fine we just re-hooked up the to the new body basically so
01:06:08
Grippy McGripperston
Cool.
01:06:13
Grippy McGripperston
Nice.
01:06:14
Coy Baker
Yeah.
01:06:15
Grippy McGripperston
You guys use that for <unk>
01:06:15
Coy Baker
And now it's brand new and pristine and clean. The bottom's flat.
01:06:19
Grippy McGripperston
that's helpful.
01:06:19
Coy Baker
So, yes.
01:06:20
Grippy McGripperston
You guys use that for a kneeling billets then or. Oh,
01:06:24
Coy Baker
but Just custom projects. It's not big enough to do any of our bulk volume stuff, but when we're heat treating dyes or different weird parts, or sometimes they'll forge a little small test billet out of it.
01:06:28
Grippy McGripperston
Alright.
01:06:35
Coy Baker
If they just need to forge something out to test it, then it needs to be at a certain temp that doesn't match the temp that the big furnaces are at.
01:06:42
Grippy McGripperston
Hmm.
01:06:42
Coy Baker
They'll do it in that because they can just set whatever temperature they want.
01:06:44
Grippy McGripperston
Okay.
01:06:46
Grippy McGripperston
Thanks.
01:06:46
Denis Tyrell
nice
01:06:46
Coy Baker
But it's not it's not really big enough to do any of the main annealing in.
01:06:52
Denis Tyrell
yeah cool yeah that's it's a lot but uh
01:06:53
Grippy McGripperston
That would make sense. You guys move a lot more steel than that.
01:06:57
Coy Baker
Yeah.
01:07:00
Grippy McGripperston
So Jared, when you when you used Grip Axe, what did you finish your handles with?
01:07:05
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, that's what going to say, because i before I get that, I wanted to say that if you're looking for some awesome handle material, you should go check out Grip Tech Composites.
01:07:06
Grippy McGripperston
know. that
01:07:15
Denis Tyrell
They're the makers of Grip X, a rubber composite. ah Grippy Gripperson a handle material. They have ah several lines available for your for your use. They got the standard Gripex, Gripex 3D, the limitless version.
01:07:32
Denis Tyrell
um And you can load up your cart and use the discount code TTT10 for 10% off your purchase. You could do that at Baker Forge and Tool as well.
01:07:43
Denis Tyrell
Um, and if you're looking to go find them on Instagram, they are now on grip tech official as well. Uh, but once you're got that fancy, uh, grip tech on your handle material, you should go check out Pelican pace. Travis Haynes at Pelican pace has, um, all your premium wax needs, hard wax, soft wax, Pelican oil, hand solve. So the new butter, not a cast iron pan seasoning.
01:08:09
Denis Tyrell
um he's, he's, He'll take care of it all for you. um Discount code TTT10 once you load up all of that material in the cart. um ah cool I said this last week, but I thought it was really cool. going shout it out again.
01:08:24
Denis Tyrell
um Travis also does the ah the small little tins for... that you can include in all of your, um all of your orders. He will custom etch your logo on there or not.
01:08:35
Denis Tyrell
If you have laser abilities, um he'll still get you the tens and you can do all that yourself, but he will put the care instructions on the bottom of the tin for you.
01:08:40
Grippy McGripperston
He is.
01:08:45
Denis Tyrell
So that is that great.
01:08:46
Coy Baker
Travis is such a good dude.
01:08:48
Grippy McGripperston
really is so
01:08:49
Coy Baker
ah love
01:08:49
Denis Tyrell
Right. Yeah.
01:08:49
Coy Baker
I love talking with him at Blade Show.
01:08:51
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:08:51
Coy Baker
Such a good dude.
01:08:53
Denis Tyrell
Man, it was a really awesome experience to to to walk into. and i mean, going to have ah ah Matt and Travis there, um just both killing it in the ballroom.
01:09:05
Denis Tyrell
That's kind of where you you catch the vibe of of how different that the atmosphere was in there. But yeah, just fantastic people. So um yeah, that officially pays the bills here.
01:09:19
Coy Baker
I was about to ask, that's the wrap on the the sponsors, isn't it?
01:09:19
Grippy McGripperston
Thank you.
01:09:22
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, that is, that is it.
01:09:25
Coy Baker
Right on.
01:09:25
Denis Tyrell
So grateful for you guys. Thank you. So, um,
01:09:29
Coy Baker
Well, thank you for having

Maker Spotlight Segment

01:09:30
Coy Baker
us.
01:09:30
Denis Tyrell
yeah.
01:09:31
Denis Tyrell
Um, well on this show, we do a, a segment called a maker spotlight, uh, where we feature a maker, um, and, uh, kind of give them a shout out and share their work. And, um, I'm hoping you guys are prepared and actually, uh, have some.
01:09:50
Coy Baker
I do not. No, I'm just kidding. I do.
01:09:51
Denis Tyrell
No, kidding. You guys did a fantastic job.
01:09:54
Coy Baker
Of course I do.
01:09:56
Denis Tyrell
To be honest, ah while I was being serious and accused of kind of locking in, I was looking for a maker spotlight because I didn't do it. so
01:10:04
Coy Baker
Oh, all right.
01:10:04
Grippy McGripperston
ah
01:10:05
Coy Baker
I'll give you a little time.
01:10:05
Grippy McGripperston
I'm so surprised.
01:10:07
Denis Tyrell
and I'm good. i'm I'm on board now. but All right. So, Koi, who do you got?
01:10:10
Coy Baker
Well, yeah, I got a little story attached to mine. So mine is a hypercut underscore manufacturing on Instagram. Um,
01:10:18
Denis Tyrell
Okay.
01:10:19
Coy Baker
That is Dylan Davis. um So first off, he's a machinist and he's also a knife maker, but a little tie into the business here. So he does all of our CNC machining work for Baker Forge. Anything we need cut or machined or made that requires a CNC machine, we outsource to him. He's pretty local to us. ah He's down in Hendersonville, just outside of Asheville. So it's about two hours from us.
01:10:45
Coy Baker
um So close enough to drive and go get parts or have him bring parts up. um Been working with him for a long time. Amazing machinist. We just had our big die set made by him.
01:10:58
Coy Baker
So in the stainless production line, we just put in this new 200 ton Franklin press that's going to press all of the pattern into our steels. And we have the capacity to make really, really wide bars.
01:11:11
Coy Baker
but up until now we haven't really had the press that could press the patterns into bars over like three, four inches long or wide. So we got the Franklin press, but we needed a die set to go in it.
01:11:26
Coy Baker
And so we hit up Dylan and he kind of helped us with the design work on setting up this die set. Now it's a little hard to explain what a die set is unless you go and look at it. If you go to,
01:11:39
Coy Baker
uh i know i posted on my personal page i don't know if it's on the company page it's on hypercuts page too
01:11:42
Grippy McGripperston
It's on hyper cuts page too.
01:11:43
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, it's on second like post.
01:11:45
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
01:11:45
Denis Tyrell
Yep, so second post in there.
01:11:48
Coy Baker
yes it's a giant die set um where we can put the die plates in and press any patterns we want that die set but by itself without the plates in it weighs just over 500 pounds it's massive that press makes it look small because the press is massive but We have to move that die set around with the forklift. It's huge.
01:12:08
Coy Baker
um And so we called up Dylan. We're like, hey, we need you tackle something crazy because this is way outside of our capacity to do. It obviously has to be very precision to get the ah the top plate to ah spring down accurately and then there be no side shift. He's got to do press fit bearings and press fit rods and all that. So anyway,
01:12:30
Coy Baker
He's a knife maker as well. He makes amazing folders, lots of CNC work. Great guy. If you need any work done, hit him up. that's my shout out.
01:12:40
Denis Tyrell
Nice.
01:12:41
Grippy McGripperston
So how wide are the dyes on that?
01:12:42
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:12:45
Coy Baker
On that plate, they're seven inches wide per plate.
01:12:47
Grippy McGripperston
Oh, shit. All right.
01:12:49
Denis Tyrell
yeah
01:12:50
Coy Baker
Yep, so I can...
01:12:50
Denis Tyrell
um'm I'm... No, go ahead.
01:12:53
Coy Baker
The whole thing is, the whole die system is like 28 inches long. So it's very, very long.
01:12:59
Grippy McGripperston
Wow.
01:13:01
Coy Baker
Again, it's hard to photograph and show any reference for how big it is. We've got a video coming out where he brought them up and we kind of did the assembly on site and that kind of helps. So we'll have a video coming out on that. But the each die plate will be able to press pattern on a bar that is seven inches wide.
01:13:19
Coy Baker
So...
01:13:20
Denis Tyrell
Very cool.
01:13:20
Grippy McGripperston
That's awesome.
01:13:21
Denis Tyrell
um I'm dying because the monster can, the special, the the great placement.
01:13:21
Grippy McGripperston
Like I see the monster can in here, but it's just still not doing it. That's awesome.
01:13:26
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:13:26
Coy Baker
Uh-huh. Well, we do some work with monsters, so we had to throw that in there, get some and some stuff, so.
01:13:31
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, that's cool.
01:13:33
Grippy McGripperston
ah awesome
01:13:33
Denis Tyrell
Well, that's a good one. So that's a hypercut underscore manufacturing. ah He's got 5,243 followers. And if you guys aren't following him, um go give him a follow and tell him the boys at triple T said, what's up? I was not following him. So I, I just got on board here.
01:13:53
Denis Tyrell
So good one. And I'm looking at the, the the folders that I'm seeing on here amazing.
01:13:54
Coy Baker
Okay.
01:13:57
Denis Tyrell
Just amazing. just
01:13:59
Coy Baker
Yeah, he's he does a table at Blade Show normally. I know the last few years he's had a table. And if you ever go over there and pull up his folders and and you flick one open, I mean, they're glass.
01:14:09
Coy Baker
He does a great job.
01:14:10
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Very cool.
01:14:12
Grippy McGripperston
It's awesome.
01:14:12
Denis Tyrell
Very cool. Yeah.
01:14:13
Coy Baker
He does a lot of machining work for other knife companies too.
01:14:13
Denis Tyrell
Good one.
01:14:16
Coy Baker
um
01:14:17
Grippy McGripperston
Okay.
01:14:17
Coy Baker
I don't know who and all he does it for, it but I know he does in-house machining for their stuff as well. So he's well-versed in the knife world.
01:14:26
Grippy McGripperston
That's awesome.
01:14:27
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, that is. do you got, Matt?
01:14:30
Grippy McGripperston
I have my buddy Martin. It's fish underscore and underscore knives. I actually met him at our local show the first year i was there.
01:14:35
Coy Baker
I'm.
01:14:39
Grippy McGripperston
He is my table neighbor. And we just kind of hit it off.
01:14:42
Denis Tyrell
Oh,
01:14:43
Grippy McGripperston
And so, yeah, he makes some really, really nice chef's knives, hunting knives, pretty much anything you want. His blades, um i always tell people they're kind of a simpler blade, but the geometry is

Fishing Anecdote and Humor

01:15:00
Grippy McGripperston
spot on. um He actually gifted me one. And I'm like, from looking at the knives, I know that the geometry is spot on.
01:15:08
Grippy McGripperston
But then you use it and it's like, holy crap, I haven't actually ever felt a knife that cut this nice. So yeah, he does a lot of work. He uses a lot of grip backs, a lot of my stabilized woods too. But yeah, he has a really nice the geometry, just really good eye to detail.
01:15:27
Grippy McGripperston
um He has a table usually in, well, he just started this past year at that Blade Show and I think he'll be going back next year. um You can also catch him at the Badger Knife Show in Wisconsin and then the Twin City Knife Show in ah the Twin Cities, which is actually coming up in the end of September, I think.
01:15:46
Grippy McGripperston
So if you're in the Minnesota area, Midwest, you can catch him there and catch me at that show as well.
01:15:54
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, i was good.
01:15:54
Coy Baker
Did you say... sorry I was just going say, did you say this guy was your neighbor?
01:15:59
Grippy McGripperston
Table neighbor at our local show. So no, he's not my neighbor.
01:16:01
Coy Baker
Oh.
01:16:02
Grippy McGripperston
But he's like three hours away.
01:16:03
Coy Baker
Gotcha. Nice.
01:16:04
Grippy McGripperston
he actually came down and helped me move shops. So I really appreciate him.
01:16:08
Coy Baker
Nice.
01:16:09
Grippy McGripperston
He's a really stand up guy, really nice guy and makes really nice knives too.
01:16:09
Denis Tyrell
Oh,
01:16:12
Denis Tyrell
not nothing says I'm a better friend than most of your friends and they come down and help move.
01:16:16
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, Jared, why didn't you come over?
01:16:18
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. I wasn't invited, but whatever. Yeah.
01:16:21
Coy Baker
I mean, I was there, Jared.
01:16:22
Denis Tyrell
No, no.
01:16:22
Coy Baker
Come on.
01:16:23
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
01:16:25
Coy Baker
God.
01:16:25
Grippy McGripperston
How dare you?
01:16:25
Denis Tyrell
I was over, I was over at grip tech industries, dude. Sorry. I showed up and nothing was happening. Yeah.
01:16:30
Grippy McGripperston
Oh yeah, that was an...
01:16:30
Coy Baker
yeah
01:16:32
Grippy McGripperston
those was in a different state.
01:16:33
Denis Tyrell
yeah yeah
01:16:35
Coy Baker
Empty warehouse.
01:16:38
Grippy McGripperston
Oh, that's great.
01:16:39
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, no, I was looking at at the at the description, you were like, oh, it's kind of a basic knife and and ah you kind of like, oh, you know, but this is he's actually you know a basic knife award winner from the badger knife thing.
01:16:39
Grippy McGripperston
That's hilarious.
01:16:50
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
01:16:51
Denis Tyrell
and But I think the one of the best compliments you can have as ah as a maker is, you know, I mean, cool and odd, beautiful, it's gorgeous, but the functionality and usability is is what we're making the tools for, right?
01:16:52
Grippy McGripperston
I mean... and
01:17:03
Grippy McGripperston
So yeah, that award actually, I don't remember the exact price point, but it has to come in under, I think $250.
01:17:03
Coy Baker
Nice.
01:17:03
Denis Tyrell
yeah.
01:17:10
Grippy McGripperston
That's where they kind of get the basic. And his pricing is just, it's really good.
01:17:12
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:17:15
Grippy McGripperston
I mean, I've bought my dad and my father-in-law knives from him. we have one in the kitchen. buddy of mine bought a knife from him. And if you keep an eye on his page, you might get some sneak peeks at some unreleased grip X from time to time, because he's one of my testers, so.
01:17:30
Denis Tyrell
nice
01:17:31
Coy Baker
o nice If he ever wants to throw some copper in his blade, you know where to point him, right?
01:17:37
Grippy McGripperston
Oh, yeah.
01:17:38
Coy Baker
All right. Just going to throw that out there.
01:17:39
Grippy McGripperston
Yep. probably Probably should do that, yeah.
01:17:43
Coy Baker
and know It's going to blow his prize point. I know. I know. I hear it.
01:17:46
Grippy McGripperston
I mean, he sells some Damascus stuff.
01:17:47
Coy Baker
But still.
01:17:50
Grippy McGripperston
Actually, his as mono steel knives move so much faster, I think, just because the pricing. but Yeah.
01:17:57
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:17:58
Coy Baker
He does a lot of fishing, too.
01:17:58
Denis Tyrell
Awesome.
01:18:00
Coy Baker
lot of fishing, I mean.
01:18:00
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, he loves fishing and duck hunting.
01:18:01
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:18:03
Coy Baker
Mm-hmm. My kind of people.
01:18:05
Denis Tyrell
Speaking. Yeah, for sure.
01:18:07
Grippy McGripperston
yeah
01:18:07
Denis Tyrell
The speaking of fishing, I didn't catch anything, but

Community Contributions and Gratitude

01:18:10
Denis Tyrell
I saw a sturgeon. It has to be a sturgeon because it looked like a fucking dinosaur um come out on the boat side, probably about, I don't know, 15 feet to to the side.
01:18:13
Coy Baker
Mm-hmm.
01:18:24
Denis Tyrell
it It came out. I've never, I've never, I've never seen the surgeon and I actually never went fishing for him either, but this fucking thing came up over the water and like, it was like a fucking movie slow motion to me, um, out and over, but it was like, I don't know, fucking seven, eight feet long.
01:18:41
Denis Tyrell
Like, I don't know. It was mind blowing. It was probably the coolest thing i have ever seen like in yeah out in the wild like that. And it was like him just going like, fuck you.
01:18:49
Grippy McGripperston
That's awesome.
01:18:51
Denis Tyrell
You're not catching shit, but here I am. I kind of think it was the Simpson, the one-eyed fucking ah more fish or whatever that thing is. But that's...
01:19:01
Grippy McGripperston
I have to ask, Jared. have to ask.
01:19:04
Grippy McGripperston
Is a bad day of fishing still better a good day of
01:19:04
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:19:08
Denis Tyrell
No. A good day of golfing.
01:19:10
Coy Baker
Oh!
01:19:11
Denis Tyrell
A good day of golfing is is is like no other.
01:19:14
Coy Baker
Wrong answer.
01:19:14
Grippy McGripperston
golfing? Better than finishing a knife even, huh?
01:19:17
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. is. Yeah. Yeah.
01:19:20
Coy Baker
oh wrong answer. Wrong answer.
01:19:22
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, no, it is. But fishing is yeah, that's that's one of my other loves and and and passions.
01:19:28
Grippy McGripperston
yeah i like catching i don't like drowning my lures and i'm a lot better drowning lures than i am catching fish so that's cool yeah
01:19:29
Denis Tyrell
So, um
01:19:36
Denis Tyrell
yeah, I only brought up that random sturgeon story because i see a picture of that pike that he's got, which I've never seen. So, but I heard those are fun to get after too.
01:19:47
Grippy McGripperston
they are uh biggest pike i ever caught was like 24 inches but it's like as thick as my pinky and it still gave me a fight and i'm like this is amazing
01:19:47
Denis Tyrell
All the mid-millscats.
01:19:47
Coy Baker
thats good
01:19:57
Grippy McGripperston
We don't get those in Illinois, so...
01:19:57
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:19:58
Coy Baker
Jared, Jared, you know why you've never caught a pike? Because you go golfing.
01:20:02
Denis Tyrell
Uh, no.
01:20:06
Grippy McGripperston
They don't stack the golf pans with Pike?
01:20:06
Denis Tyrell
yeah I know.
01:20:09
Coy Baker
No.
01:20:09
Denis Tyrell
My so my son fishes every golf course around here and pulls all kinds of big mouth bass out of, out of the lakes too.
01:20:14
Grippy McGripperston
Oh, dang.
01:20:15
Denis Tyrell
So. Yeah. This is, the this is, it's a good try, Koi, but I, I like to, I like to do the golf thing, but anyways, all right.
01:20:23
Grippy McGripperston
there's
01:20:24
Coy Baker
All right.
01:20:26
Denis Tyrell
So, uh, fish underscore underscore knives. Uh, Martin has, uh, 1,269 followers. Um, I just gave him a follow. So, uh, another great, uh, shout out, go, uh, tell him, uh, what's up, show him some love.
01:20:37
Coy Baker
Same.
01:20:44
Denis Tyrell
Let's get that, uh, that follow count up.
01:20:48
Denis Tyrell
Um, and then I have our, which I can't believe ah don't have this here and the damn page just went away.
01:20:49
Coy Baker
Boosting.
01:20:59
Denis Tyrell
ah do this to Dennis all the time. Um, I have our good buddy, Donnie.
01:21:03
Coy Baker
You did. got to put in the chat.
01:21:06
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Donnie Dulovich, uh, Donnie underscore Dulovich.
01:21:08
Coy Baker
Oh.
01:21:10
Denis Tyrell
Um, he has, 3,518 followers. um Donnie is just an awesome dude and an incredible maker. Um, he gets after it all the time.
01:21:26
Denis Tyrell
um doesn't even get to do this. It's like a seasonal thing. Like every time I talk to him, he's like, Oh, I'm working here doing something. But, uh, when he's, when he's off and, and, and digging in, man, you'll see him bust out a, a shit ton of work.
01:21:40
Denis Tyrell
Um, and just, like I said, uh, the, the, the creator and owner of the blade show pit table out in the, uh, out in the parking lot.
01:21:52
Coy Baker
The bourbon table.
01:21:52
Denis Tyrell
I think, yeah, the bourbon table, cigars, um, just bringing, and bringing all of us together. um but yeah, so I feel like I've been doing, yeah I've been doing this, uh, spotlight at this service, uh, having not realized that we didn't shout out our boy here.
01:22:01
Coy Baker
Don is a good dude.
01:22:03
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
01:22:08
Denis Tyrell
So, um, yeah, that's Donnie underscore Dulovich and, uh, I'm sure you already are, but if you're not, go give him a follow, um, and tell him we said, what's up.
01:22:19
Coy Baker
Yeah, he's a good dude. I love meeting up with him at the Blade shows. um He only started doing that bourbon table, was that last year he started?
01:22:24
Denis Tyrell
Yeah,
01:22:27
Coy Baker
Or the year before maybe?
01:22:28
Denis Tyrell
yeah it's like a couple years now. Yeah.
01:22:30
Coy Baker
Because it morphed from literally just him bringing a bottle with a couple of guys and doing it in the pit to being out front with an actual little table.
01:22:35
Denis Tyrell
Yep.
01:22:38
Coy Baker
And then it turned into two

Upcoming Projects Teasers

01:22:40
Coy Baker
tables last year.
01:22:40
Denis Tyrell
Yep.
01:22:41
Coy Baker
I'm not sure if they kicked him out of the pit made him go outside because he was doing it. But I'm not sure.
01:22:46
Denis Tyrell
I know they yeah it kicked him from from like the the entry side of that um of the of the parking lot thing to the other side because we were smoking too many cigars, I guess.
01:22:46
Coy Baker
He's a good dude.
01:22:52
Coy Baker
Yeah. like your code yeah Yep. Go to the smoking section.
01:22:59
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. But yeah that's turned into a ah thing and a good time. So, yeah. That is that.
01:23:07
Coy Baker
Love that guy. Make her spotlight.
01:23:09
Denis Tyrell
All right. Yeah, that's a good one. Thank you guys. I appreciate that. All good ones. What else we got? There is no.
01:23:19
Coy Baker
Dennis, what's your... Oh, Dennis isn't here.
01:23:20
Grippy McGripperston
you
01:23:20
Coy Baker
Never mind.
01:23:21
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Dennis, what's the triple T this week?
01:23:23
Coy Baker
What a loser.
01:23:24
Denis Tyrell
Oh yeah. There's not one of those either. Yeah.
01:23:27
Coy Baker
Damn. God. Letting down his own guys even on the channel.
01:23:30
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:23:31
Coy Baker
Not even the just the podcast.
01:23:32
Denis Tyrell
Even all those loyal YouTubers guys.
01:23:35
Coy Baker
He couldn't have pre-recorded something for them?
01:23:38
Denis Tyrell
i don't know, man. He's just, yeah. In all honesty, Dennis.
01:23:47
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, no, it's all honest. Yeah. All that stuff is on.
01:23:49
Coy Baker
I was about to say, don't do it.
01:23:49
Grippy McGripperston
ah stop
01:23:50
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:23:50
Coy Baker
Don't do it. Don't cave.
01:23:53
Grippy McGripperston
It's Jared's gonna get all up in his feelings again.
01:23:54
Coy Baker
for
01:23:56
Denis Tyrell
Oh, it happens.
01:23:56
Coy Baker
we're We're towing a line here. We're towing a line, Jared.
01:23:58
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, we are doing it.
01:23:59
Coy Baker
Come on.
01:24:00
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. You guys are harsh, man. Yeah.
01:24:05
Denis Tyrell
and I miss you, buddy. I'm so sorry you're not here.
01:24:08
Coy Baker
good
01:24:11
Coy Baker
Where's the mute button for him? Come on now.
01:24:13
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Oh,
01:24:13
Coy Baker
There is. There it is.
01:24:17
Grippy McGripperston
There it is
01:24:17
Coy Baker
i never
01:24:19
Denis Tyrell
that's good stuff.
01:24:20
Grippy McGripperston
Oh, that's great.
01:24:22
Denis Tyrell
All right. Well, I mean, uh, you know, we've been going for about a hour and 24 minutes, which is, uh, easily done here. um ah guess, you know, you get anybody have shameless plug time?
01:24:35
Denis Tyrell
You know, everybody.
01:24:36
Coy Baker
Well, I had a question for Matt. ah
01:24:38
Denis Tyrell
yeah there you go.

Balancing Business and Passion Projects

01:24:40
Coy Baker
Matt, you're you're you're deep into the whole setting up the new shop. What have you found to be the hardest part about setting up the new shop, aside from finding time to do it?
01:24:50
Grippy McGripperston
um
01:24:53
Grippy McGripperston
Boy, there's just a lot of like decision fatigue. um you know Deciding like oh what size of room, where do I put stuff.
01:24:57
Coy Baker
Hmm.
01:25:02
Grippy McGripperston
It's like all the way down to like cable internet versus like something substantially cheaper. fear of going all out. going all out and then failing.
01:25:16
Grippy McGripperston
I don't think it's going to happen, but it's still a fear. You know, you're looking at the bank account and you're going, okay, I've spent this much already on this shop. I don't know what my electric bill is going to be. i don't know what my gas bill is going to be.
01:25:28
Grippy McGripperston
Like, and then you're throwing on another couple hundred dollars.
01:25:28
Denis Tyrell
Thank you.
01:25:31
Grippy McGripperston
Well, really a hundred and some for internet. And, um you know, then you're looking at all the other stuff that you need. Like, oh, I need to spend another couple thousand dollars on building the room and another room for casting and So it's just ah decision fatigue and honestly, the back and forth being partially in my basement partially in the shop that that's been really difficult to like the other day. I was like, I need to get some casting done tonight. So I'll take some resin home from the shop and get it done tonight. And I get home and go, fuck, I forgot the forgot the resin.
01:26:04
Grippy McGripperston
So I'm like, well, I guess after dinner, after the kids go down, I'm going to the shop to get resin.
01:26:04
Denis Tyrell
and
01:26:05
Coy Baker
Sure.
01:26:08
Grippy McGripperston
So can cast tomorrow. And, you know, that back and forth. So I'm really looking forward just being completely over there, i'm getting everything set up.
01:26:16
Coy Baker
yeah
01:26:17
Grippy McGripperston
And, you know, it's all going to work out just fine. It's just a lot of that, like, am I doing the right thing? And like, there's no doubt in my mind, that's the right thing until there's doubt, you know, it's like, I know that it's right.
01:26:29
Coy Baker
sure
01:26:30
Grippy McGripperston
But then you second guess it. Because, you know, that's what business is about is like, just make a decision and you're going with it.
01:26:36
Coy Baker
Yeah.
01:26:37
Grippy McGripperston
And that's it is what it is. And you make the best of it. So yeah, that's a good question.
01:26:41
Coy Baker
Right. Yeah, there's a lot of lot of risk. Yeah, there's lot of risk.
01:26:44
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, there is. Yeah, there is. um Yeah. So I think the back and forth really is probably the hardest part because I've been going out there like twice a day on my days that I'm not doing the day job and um it probably once a day usually when I am doing the day job.
01:26:47
Coy Baker
And I can...
01:26:58
Grippy McGripperston
And so, yeah.
01:27:00
Coy Baker
I can relate to the back and forth. That is no fun whatsoever. Because, yeah, having multiple stuff, part of your stuff at two locations.
01:27:05
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
01:27:08
Coy Baker
And you're right. you You get over there and you're like, crap, I forgot this one thing. And now I can't do anything. So now I got to go back.
01:27:13
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
01:27:14
Coy Baker
And, oh, yeah. When we moved to where we're at now, I made that conscious effort to go, hey, we're not going to work in both. We're going to do this hard, hard and fast cut production, move, start production.
01:27:29
Coy Baker
And there's a lot of pre-op to do that.
01:27:29
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
01:27:31
Coy Baker
But um before that, I had done this whole between two shops and it's just it's so hard to do.
01:27:37
Grippy McGripperston
yeah Thankfully, I'm still kind of living off a lot of my leftover Blade Show inventory, so I haven't had to make a whole lot of my own inventory. I'm starting to kind of get low on some things, but I was still doing all the wholesale orders from Blade Show. So I cast, I mean, and it what didn't start just at Blade Show. It was usually like, you know, first two weeks of July is when I got all the orders.
01:28:01
Grippy McGripperston
And so I've cast, I think, oh, about 120 the last two and the last like three, four weeks, um, trying to get all these orders done and then moving as well.
01:28:14
Grippy McGripperston
So, you know, balancing all that's been fun, but you know, um,
01:28:18
Coy Baker
So what is the what's the timeframe look like? When will the move be done, do you think?
01:28:23
Grippy McGripperston
I am hoping to finish up the grinding room this week and then, uh, kind of finalize design on the, um, casting room and then hopefully another week or week and a half from then.
01:28:35
Grippy McGripperston
I'm hoping by the end of August,
01:28:38
Coy Baker
Cool.
01:28:38
Grippy McGripperston
than I need to.
01:28:39
Denis Tyrell
Oh, i mean stainless stainless production line will be there too.
01:28:40
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
01:28:42
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
01:28:43
Denis Tyrell
You guys are right on track.
01:28:43
Coy Baker
yeah
01:28:43
Grippy McGripperston
Hopefully.
01:28:45
Coy Baker
Grip tech will be moved in and Staines will be rolling.
01:28:49
Denis Tyrell
right.
01:28:49
Grippy McGripperston
Perfect. Let's do it.
01:28:51
Denis Tyrell
September is going to be a great month for us.
01:28:51
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
01:28:52
Coy Baker
Nice.
01:28:54
Denis Tyrell
Let's go.
01:28:54
Grippy McGripperston
but
01:28:55
Coy Baker
God, I hope so.
01:28:56
Grippy McGripperston
I hope so.
01:28:56
Coy Baker
oh
01:28:56
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:28:57
Grippy McGripperston
um I'm ready to get rolling on some things too.
01:28:58
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Yeah.
01:29:00
Grippy McGripperston
I've got some stuff that I can't talk about yet, but there is some really exciting shit going on. So Once we hit end, I might fill you guys in, but...
01:29:07
Coy Baker
Well, do you...
01:29:10
Coy Baker
was about to say, you can't just taunt us with that now.
01:29:11
Denis Tyrell
Nice.
01:29:13
Coy Baker
Poor listeners.
01:29:13
Grippy McGripperston
Well, yeah.
01:29:14
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:29:14
Coy Baker
ah
01:29:14
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, sorry, listeners, all four of you. Yeah.
01:29:17
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Okay. Got to go. See you. Bye. End the show.
01:29:19
Coy Baker
the God.
01:29:20
Grippy McGripperston
yep
01:29:21
Coy Baker
That's for the after show where all the people who pay $4,000 a year to this show get to listen, right?
01:29:26
Denis Tyrell
Yes, that's right. Which, yeah, I was threatening that last week.
01:29:29
Coy Baker
Yeah.
01:29:31
Denis Tyrell
So we'll still have to do that.
01:29:32
Coy Baker
ah so I was going to lead into that. Yeah.
01:29:34
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Um, I haven't done anything with It's just like a knife. So, uh, but we are, we are doing that.
01:29:39
Grippy McGripperston
so
01:29:40
Denis Tyrell
I do have some ideas. I'll run them by you here guys. Cause, uh, for an after show, um, as well, as since we're teasing stuff. Um, cause I think kind of on there, not being an interview show, it's kind of one of those things where, you know, what's the value in that?
01:29:53
Coy Baker
Sure.
01:29:54
Denis Tyrell
Or, you know, you guys want me to have a new mic. That's great. Thank you.
01:29:59
Coy Baker
Oh!
01:30:00
Denis Tyrell
But I, what are you doing?
01:30:00
Grippy McGripperston
i was I was really paying for a new host, not a new mic, but we'll settle off for the mic, I guess.
01:30:04
Denis Tyrell
same thing.
01:30:05
Coy Baker
oh
01:30:05
Denis Tyrell
It's part of it. Yeah. Yeah. No, it's part of the process though. You know we can't get it. We can't get him out of there if yeah, no.
01:30:11
Grippy McGripperston
No, I was talking about you.
01:30:12
Denis Tyrell
Oh, God damn. I was trying to help you out here.
01:30:16
Coy Baker
I knew that's where Matt was going.
01:30:16
Denis Tyrell
All right.
01:30:18
Coy Baker
I knew it.
01:30:18
Denis Tyrell
All right. Yeah. And that's why I went to grip tech industries to help that dude move. Cause yeah.
01:30:23
Grippy McGripperston
Ah, fair enough. Fair enough.
01:30:24
Coy Baker
Oh, my God.
01:30:26
Denis Tyrell
Oh, but I, what I was going to say real quick,
01:30:28
Grippy McGripperston
So that's why you got arrested for stealing stuff? You're just like, oh, I thought you were moving.
01:30:31
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, and well, that's there's that and there's this too.
01:30:32
Grippy McGripperston
It
01:30:33
Denis Tyrell
That happens all the time.
01:30:34
Coy Baker
so
01:30:34
Denis Tyrell
Yeah,
01:30:37
Coy Baker
oh my god
01:30:37
Grippy McGripperston
was multifactorial.
01:30:39
Denis Tyrell
yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:30:39
Grippy McGripperston
I gotcha. Uh...
01:30:41
Denis Tyrell
I know I sound different than I than i look. you know So ah the ah what I wanted to say was that I'd be remiss to say though, like I always appreciate when somebody shares the, I'll call it honest honesty, but when we're talking about like,
01:30:45
Grippy McGripperston
Sorry.
01:30:58
Denis Tyrell
we see a product and, and we use the product in, in all that stuff. But when, when the maker talks about the, the fear, um, and the insecurity that goes along with the, and like Koi said, the risk, um, I, I dig that more than anything, man.
01:31:13
Denis Tyrell
Cause it just humanizes, um, the us as people.
01:31:15
Grippy McGripperston
Thank you.
01:31:17
Denis Tyrell
Um, and like I said, the, one of my favorite moments, uh, even for somebody as famous as Koi is, uh, We, the first time he went to his, ah God, that was great.
01:31:28
Denis Tyrell
I wish we did a video every now and again, because every now and again, I should just, I wish I would record the video.
01:31:28
Coy Baker
so laughter yeah
01:31:34
Denis Tyrell
that was perfect. Uh, the first time he was, uh, two years ago, first blade show that they were doing, I talked with him and, uh, he, you know, was, are you doing, man? And he's just like, yeah, yeah, I'm fucking, I'm, I'm, I'm scared. Like, and I, and I'm, so I'm sitting here looking, I'm like this is ridiculous, right?
01:31:52
Denis Tyrell
You're going to kill it. Like we know it, everyone knows it, but it it doesn't matter. So, you know, when, when Matt's sharing that, you know, there's, you know, is all of this worth it? Um, and I just, my hats off to all you guys, um, um, that, that take the risk and, and go all in, um, because there's the reward is, uh, always, always worth it, but it's never going to happen if we don't try.
01:32:15
Denis Tyrell
So I'm grateful for both of you guys, you know, uh, at some point, you know, making the decision to, to, to do it and and we all appreciate it. So, um,
01:32:23
Coy Baker
yeah Well, and that decision has to be made all the time, like every day. I mean, Baker Ford still has all the same sorts of fears and risks.
01:32:29
Grippy McGripperston
Thank you.
01:32:31
Coy Baker
I think about it all the time. I go to sleep at night and like, you know, the decisions and problems only get bigger as you grow. They don't go away because you've quote unquote made it.
01:32:39
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:32:42
Denis Tyrell
Right.
01:32:43
Coy Baker
they just get harder and larger and the dollar figure attached to it grows and makes it more scary.
01:32:44
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:32:47
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:32:49
Coy Baker
So just because somebody is quote unquote, gotten to their made or successful or whatever, that does not mean that they don't struggle with the exact same thing.
01:32:55
Denis Tyrell
Right.
01:32:59
Coy Baker
So because they do.
01:32:59
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Yeah. If you don't, you don't keep pushing it, you're not going to stay there.
01:33:00
Grippy McGripperston
That's
01:33:03
Denis Tyrell
That's for sure. Right.
01:33:04
Coy Baker
Yeah.
01:33:05
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:33:05
Grippy McGripperston
the truth.
01:33:05
Coy Baker
Yeah.
01:33:06
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah. I mean, and I'm, I'm lucky cause I get to have kind of a low risk thing cause I keep the day job.
01:33:07
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:33:11
Grippy McGripperston
So I have the insurance, the salary, you know, um and it is, it is, there really is.
01:33:14
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. yeah
01:33:16
Coy Baker
How nice. Mm-hmm.
01:33:21
Grippy McGripperston
This probably wouldn't be happening if it wasn't for this day job. And like, I just thank God every day, like, wow, you know, life could be a lot different. You know, if I was still working in orthopedics and like I was on call 24, seven, 365, there was no scheduling time out in the shop, you know, and 12 hour days, five days a week, it, that sucked.
01:33:38
Denis Tyrell
yeah yeah
01:33:40
Coy Baker
ah
01:33:43
Coy Baker
Yeah, it really is a, it's a, it's a grace thing. Cause I mean, I had the same thing with that other, my other company, the painting company that's led me into the whole Baker Forge thing. I was able to collect a paycheck from a, from a quote unquote day job that I didn't have to be at very often.
01:33:54
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
01:33:59
Coy Baker
And that allowed me to, to
01:33:59
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.

Marketing and Online Presence Updates

01:34:00
Coy Baker
work on the side project.
01:34:01
Coy Baker
So, you know, I can relate there.
01:34:03
Denis Tyrell
Yeah. The same thing allows me not to have to finish a knife. It's fantastic.
01:34:07
Coy Baker
and And go golfing.
01:34:08
Denis Tyrell
And go coffee and and fishing, not catching. Yeah.
01:34:15
Denis Tyrell
That's all good stuff.
01:34:16
Grippy McGripperston
drowning worms it's all right
01:34:17
Denis Tyrell
Yes. All right.
01:34:19
Coy Baker
yeah Yeah.
01:34:20
Denis Tyrell
Koi, anything cool happening? Where can we find you? Where can we do all that? I think everybody knows anyways. There's only two other people listening, but ah give right on.
01:34:29
Coy Baker
Baker, Baker Forge on Instagram, Baker Forge.com on the website.
01:34:29
Denis Tyrell
it
01:34:34
Coy Baker
um Some of you may have noticed we're no longer Baker Forge and Tool on Instagram.
01:34:38
Denis Tyrell
Yes.
01:34:38
Coy Baker
don't know who in all caught that. and That was ah I don't know how long ago that was, maybe a month or so ago, we actually changed our name because we just needed to shorten it. And Baker Forge was actually open and available, so we snagged it and switched over to just Baker Forge instead of Baker Forge Antool.
01:34:54
Grippy McGripperston
Hey, Jared. Have you been saying Baker Forge or Baker Forge and Tool? I'm just curious.
01:34:58
Denis Tyrell
I go back and forth, to be honest with you. Yeah, that's the truth.
01:35:01
Grippy McGripperston
I see. ah You like coin better than me.
01:35:02
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:35:03
Grippy McGripperston
I get it. It's fine.
01:35:04
Denis Tyrell
Is the... Yeah.
01:35:06
Coy Baker
I've been a sponsor longer.
01:35:08
Grippy McGripperston
Fair enough.
01:35:09
Coy Baker
well
01:35:10
Grippy McGripperston
He charges me more than he told me.
01:35:11
Coy Baker
Baker Forge.
01:35:12
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah.
01:35:13
Coy Baker
Oh, I really penned him down.
01:35:14
Denis Tyrell
aye
01:35:16
Coy Baker
i really did.
01:35:18
Grippy McGripperston
ah
01:35:19
Coy Baker
I asked for analytics. I wanted to show. I wanted to see what the show viewership was. I really hammered the poor guy.
01:35:24
Grippy McGripperston
Yeah, he told me four listeners, I'm like, I guess I'll contribute to the cause.
01:35:27
Denis Tyrell
yeah
01:35:29
Grippy McGripperston
So you should be paying people. I mean...
01:35:34
Coy Baker
ah Well, yeah, so bigger fortune tool is still the official company LLC name, but we go by bigger forge.
01:35:34
Denis Tyrell
i
01:35:40
Coy Baker
So anyway,
01:35:41
Denis Tyrell
i was gonna I was going to call this show the sponsorship takeover, but i it is officially derailed.
01:35:41
Grippy McGripperston
Yes.
01:35:47
Grippy McGripperston
Yes.
01:35:47
Denis Tyrell
that but but That is what's happening. ah Anytime someone gets on a roll, there's a big, nah, fuck you.
01:35:55
Grippy McGripperston
uh
01:35:55
Denis Tyrell
So, yeah.
01:35:56
Coy Baker
And I.
01:35:57
Denis Tyrell
The company's still forging tool though, right?
01:36:00
Coy Baker
Yes, the LLC is.
01:36:00
Denis Tyrell
All of that on? Yeah.
01:36:02
Coy Baker
Yes, it's all officially the same. We just we changed our handle on Instagram and I think Facebook, too, because when you you start looking at metrics for searchability and stuff like that, bigger forge is a lot easier than bigger forge and tool.
01:36:08
Denis Tyrell
Okay.
01:36:17
Coy Baker
Um, and so my marketing guy was like, Hey, we need to make this change. And i was like, why we're doing great as is he's like, no, no, no, no. For these and these reasons we need to make the change. i already secured the, the name and all that. And I was like, all right, fine process. Let's go.
01:36:31
Grippy McGripperston
Fair enough.
01:36:32
Denis Tyrell
Yeah, that's good.
01:36:33
Coy Baker
So anyway,
01:36:33
Grippy McGripperston
Nice.
01:36:35
Denis Tyrell
and dan Thanks. and I just gave Matt another reason to tell me I'm lame.
01:36:37
Grippy McGripperston
Well, that's fine.
01:36:40
Denis Tyrell
Okay, yeah. All right.
01:36:41
Grippy McGripperston
You can find grip max.
01:36:42
Coy Baker

01:36:43
Denis Tyrell

01:36:45
Grippy McGripperston

You can find me on Instagram at GripTechOfficial.
01:37:18
Grippy McGripperston

01:37:32
Denis Tyrell

01:37:35
Grippy McGripperston

01:37:35
Denis Tyrell
So, yeah.
01:37:36
Grippy McGripperston
All right.
01:37:37
Denis Tyrell
Sorry.
01:37:37
Grippy McGripperston
Good.
01:37:37
Denis Tyrell
My daughter but not just gave in.
01:37:38
Coy Baker
i was I was waving. I was being nice, just saying.
01:37:42
Denis Tyrell
to It's hard for me to be a like, she doesn it she doesn't know that i'm I'm recording and then she just offered me half a burrito. So, like, we got to go.
01:37:52
Grippy McGripperston
Ah, you can't see that, can you?
01:37:54
Denis Tyrell
What are we looking at?
01:37:55
Coy Baker
What am I supposed be looking at?
01:37:56
Grippy McGripperston
Nothing you can't, something you can't talk about, but fine.
01:37:56
Coy Baker
We can't see it on your crappy phone video.
01:38:00
Denis Tyrell

01:38:14
Grippy McGripperston
first
01:38:18
Denis Tyrell
Yeah.
01:38:19
Grippy McGripperston
That awkward silence.

01:38:20
Grippy McGripperston

Coy Baker

01:39:08
Denis Tyrell
This is good stuff. I love it.
01:39:09
Coy Baker
This, this should have been a video podcast because the listeners missed out on quite a bit of leaning back in the chair and laughing on mute. There was a bunch of that.
01:39:18
Grippy McGripperston
Oh yeah.
01:39:19
