Chupacabra Confusion

00:00:00
Speaker
Is it a chupacabra? No, that's a snake. Right? Isn't it a chupacabra? It's powder. No, chupacabra is not a snake. What is a chupacabra? I'm thinking of an anaconda. Kind of like it.

Episode Introduction

00:00:19
Speaker
This week we drink beers from Eagle Park Brewing in Wisconsin. This is episode 62 of The Malting Hour.
00:00:26
Speaker
What's the haps on the hops? Guyies, that's peace This the molten hour where we talk about our drink And tell you what we think, every other week And if we get drunk, well we might slur our speech Gotta get a cab, the friends who wish you had Join us for a drink, join us for a laugh Time is never wasted, way you're getting wasted The molten hour here, people, people taking places People, people taking places People, people taking places
00:00:56
Speaker
Welcome to The Waltzing Hour, episode 62. I'm one of your hosts, Tony Golic, joined always with... And back from his escapades of not being on the last episode... Clark Fettridge. Well, I mean, you were on the After the Final Four, but the actual full episode, you were not on. Which is weird to say because the After the Final Four were recording after this episode, so I'm all out of sorts. This is crazy.
00:01:20
Speaker
Anyways, welcome back, and as your penance, you bought beer for today, Clark. I did. I felt so bad. I had to reach out my hand of joy and bring tidings. And good cheer. Yeah, I'm all out of sorts, too. This is a weird time to record. Actually, got a quick question. Were you upset, were you sad about, is there still a lead in this?
00:01:43
Speaker
Uh, were you sad about missing the Hubbard's Cave episode? Yeah, I was. I was. It sounded delicious. It was. It was fun. I've never had the German chocolate cake once. I've got one in my house now. Save it for our camp. Oh, you're not coming, camping. Never mind. Just taking care of two boys for a week plus. You're going to record an episode. It's kind of like camping on its own. Yeah. You're going to do your own episode? I am. I'm going to do it after the boys go to sleep. After the boys go to sleep.
00:02:11
Speaker
Clark is drinking. Gonna be drinking a lot more than just one beer, I can tell you that. Oh, Clark busted out the bourbon. Well, anyways, Clark, you did bring some beer. I did.

Milwaukee Brewery Trip

00:02:22
Speaker
Well, we've been doing our vacation beers, and I was in Milwaukee for a work trip for work. Is that a vacation? Yeah, that's nothing. Yeah, but this is a work trip episode beer. Oh, okay. Okay. See where I'm going with this? Okay, got it. Yeah, yeah, work trip episode. Well, that's a slide. Yeah, no, I was- Hold on.
00:02:38
Speaker
I was up in Milwaukee for a night. So I thought, of course, I'm going to go to a brewery. Plenty of breweries. I know you both of you. Did you go up there? Oh, yes. Two of you? Yeah. We went for a bachelor party. Oh, maybe that's not right. Mike's bachelor party. We only ended up at one brewery, and that was enough. Was that lakefront? That was Milwaukee Brewery. Oh, Milwaukee. We got it.
00:02:55
Speaker
Annihilated yeah, you know, but the cool thing about that was so we were supposed like well We wanted to do the tour but the tours were sold out we got in there Who was it that went in there like finagle Stan? Yeah, he like finagle the guy who's like it's a passion party blah blah blah and they're like, all right fine They let us all in. Yeah, and it was
00:03:12
Speaker
Well, stupidly, before our tour started, we went to the bar next door, and we started drinking there, and there may have been shots. And then we went to the brewery, did our damage there, and then we were more or less done. I know we went out to a bar at one point.
00:03:29
Speaker
And we were at the bar, and I remember there was a pizza place next door, and I think twice I walked over there and got a slice of pizza. As did I. Oh my god. Yeah. Well, what we did after Milwaukee brewing, if you're doing the tour there, right down the street was this Mexican restaurant. Oh, yes. It was also my birthday. So we went there. Yes.
00:03:46
Speaker
We did shots tequila there. So just from being at the bar next door, did a couple of shots, then drank a bunch of beer at Milwaukee. So much so that I bought a case of their pumpkin beer while we were up there. Yes. Because it was like a case. I split it with Cousin Paul. I think it was a porter. But yeah, it was really good. I really liked it. I'm going to get that for an episode.
00:04:07
Speaker
I brought the little mini-keg of hop slam. That's right. Did we even get into it? We opened it and then I think a couple beers were poured from it and then realized it was time. After dinner or lunch, we were all pretty much done. We went back to the hotel. Some of us slept a little bit. That was me. Then we got back up, went to the
00:04:26
Speaker
bar in the basement, went to the basement bar, went to the bar in the lobby, had a beer there, and then just ventured out. We found the one Black Hawks bar though, and we were able to watch some hockey while we were at public school. Anyways, that's our trip. Sounds like a lovely time. Yeah, it was a good time. No, but obviously a lot of breweries there, so I wanted to head to one, maybe two that looked very interesting and I'd never been to a brewery up there, so.
00:04:48
Speaker
anything would be new to me. So I went on to the Facebook group, Chicago Beer, craft beer enthusiasts. Yeah. Something along those lines. You got it. And it's good to search a city, so people are going, I'm headed to blah, blah. Where should I go?

Lakefront Brewery & Pop Culture

00:05:00
Speaker
So I found a trail of comments about Milwaukee and Eagle Park.
00:05:04
Speaker
Brewing company kept popping up and everyone was saying this is the place to go You got to go here if you're gonna go to one go to this one I said, all right took a look at the website a lot of cool things So is that all three are from all three so technically this is an Eagle Park brewing episode Technically it is so forget your work And I think it's the way to go and if we ever go up there anytime I think I'm going back and I said that to my wife I said if we ever go to Milwaukee
00:05:29
Speaker
Tony and I will be sure to stop there on the way back from our camping trip. Well, there's two locations. Two locations, one close to the lake and a little bit west of the city. That's one I went to. The one west of the city? Yeah. Do you have a hard time going to Milwaukee and not wanting to go to Lakefront? Because it's such a pretty cool spot. I've never been there. I was like, oh, I'll just go to Lakefront. And then I was west of the city in a little suburb called Brookfield. So it would have been a half hour drive to get to Lakefront.
00:05:57
Speaker
Yeah, it's a cool spot and it's very German beer hall esque. Really? Yeah. And if I remember correctly, they sort of like, you know, we can get like pretzels and all that other kind of stuff. So and it's right on the river. So if you like go, there's a door that goes out the back and the river's right there. And I think they normally have tables just like lined up so you can like sit along the river and like.
00:06:18
Speaker
Have a beer. So that's that's why I've always gone there. And I've done the tour, I think like two or three times that I've gone there. And like for anyone that's ever done it or anyone that hasn't done it, little spoiler at the end, they have the canning line from Laverne and Shirley.
00:06:37
Speaker
So they always do like a little like tribute to it and they have put a glove on the thing and just kind of run. They have it like set up right there at the end because when that brewery shut down, they went in there and I guess they purchased it. And that was the one that they said was used in the in the opening scene. So they're like, we got a little piece of history here. So that's awesome. Yeah, it's kind of neat. Yeah, I think I think maybe you've told me that before. But yeah, I've only had lakefront beers. I've never been there. Well,
00:07:03
Speaker
Yeah, and they do, they do good beers, which is funny because I don't think they have a lot of, if I remember correctly, Clark, maybe you can look this up, but I don't know if they have, they don't lean towards like, like just straight up German styles. I know I've had like, stuff like that from them. But then going in there and it's that whole German beer hall feel it, it's pretty neat.
00:07:26
Speaker
Are these glasses over here? Are these the ones we're using? Yeah, we can use those. All right. Let's crack in on the first one that's a, I'll, Clark, here, why don't I give you these cans back? Oh, perfect. Tell the kids what we're drinking. Well, the first one we're going to open is called Handy Andy. And for all you old-time Chicagoans out there, we remember Handy Andy, kind of a, I guess, a poor man's Menards. Yeah. Anyone? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Back in the day. Crafty Beave. Crafty Beaves. But Handy Andy. Of course, my dad calls it Eager Beaver.
00:07:56
Speaker
Okay. Yeah. That's a real thing. I'm like, dad, that's not what it's called. You know, you know, it's kind of sidetracked. Clark, I do appreciate the fact that you were trying to pace yourself and you brought yourself tiny glasses. I do have more than like a million. I knew that, but it was also like, all right, this time I'm not going to leave seven glasses on Brandon's bar for him to clean up. Like maybe someone will say we'll start using the plastic ones. Who knows? I leave a bunch of glasses for Brandon when I house it.
00:08:23
Speaker
Yeah. You just come in and he lets you have a couple. Yeah, new glass. He just leaves in there. Yeah, new glass. All right, so what kind of beer is handy handy? We're drinking a triple New England IPA jam-packed with cashmere hops in both the Whirlpool and in secondary. Cashmere hops. 10%. Oh, yeah, we're doing this right today. Cashmere. It is not hazy. Muskego, Wisconsin. Yeah, kind of, but. That's where they're from. Triple New England style IPA.
00:08:52
Speaker
Hopped heavily in the Whirlpool, then dry hopped. All of him. That's good. I like the can display. It reminds me of, I had said, the good guy from Child's Play, that design there. But I don't think

Tasting Handy Andy IPA

00:09:07
Speaker
that's the route they're going. But handy handy. I mean, Andy Barkley is the name of the main character. Hey. Child's Play. So you're breaking down all the clues.
00:09:15
Speaker
Bring him down big time. He's got blue suspenders on. That's what Chuckie wore. There's blood all over the back of it. It's really weird. Also, there's something in Voodoo. That was the odd part. There's Voodoo written on the back. Insert child's play sound clip. Here we go.
00:09:36
Speaker
That does not taste 10%. I was going to say that. And also I don't get, I mean, I guess with a lot of triple IPAs, um, I get a lot, a lot of happiness. It's hoppy for sure. But I, you know, if somebody told me this was like a maybe a double, I would have been like, okay, yeah, seven, 8%, something like that. Cause it's like the happiness, I'm not getting like overly bitter. No, I'm getting sweet. I'm getting, um,
00:10:03
Speaker
There's a little tinge of pine, but nothing that's packing a bitterness. It's almost borderlineing a little too sweet for me. It's very sweet. On the melon side of that sweetness? I don't tend to love. I mean, I like this. It's nice. Yeah, it's good. It's not something that I would probably
00:10:31
Speaker
go and seek out if I'm looking for a New England IPA type of beer. True. But it is a New England IPA, right? Triple. Yeah, triple. But yeah, melon. That's a good descriptor there, because that is what I'm getting. It's almost like a cantaloupe sweetness. Yes, cantaloupe. Thank you. Yeah, that's kind of what I get from it. And the aroma.
00:10:53
Speaker
Yeah, the aroma isn't very strong either no But what I do get that's more that to me comes off more is
00:11:02
Speaker
Citrus than melon almost like mango Kind of like a mango II a little bit or more tropical. Yeah Yeah, definitely not like stone fruit or anything like that. What um, sorry. I mean, I know Clark what what type of? Yeah, well these cashmere, but what's do you have a descriptor of a cashmere you can pull up because I know
00:11:24
Speaker
I've had Cashmere Hero from Revolutions, and I'm sure I've had some other beers that had Cashmere in it, but I've never brewed with it. Yeah, it says it showcases flavors lemon, lime, and melon, smooth bitterness, and is mildly aromatic with a subtle herbal bouquet.
00:11:40
Speaker
Oh, there you go. That fucking sums up exactly the way we... Yeah, maybe we kind of all picked it up. There's a little citrus, mild aroma, and there's melon. See? Beer geniuses. Welcome to Beer Genius Pot. Do you know what it's like to drink a cashmere sweater?
00:11:59
Speaker
Yeah, I'm trying to remember what I thought about that. I'm trying to get the joke in for a while. I feel like I'm sure I drink more cashmere hopped beers than I think I do, but I guess I don't off the wall. Maybe. But yeah, I'm going, what do I taste here with the cashmere? Yeah, I'm not 100%. I like to revisit Revolutions Cashmere Hero because I don't remember it tasting like this.
00:12:23
Speaker
Revolution's hero series. They're all pretty bitter to me because we won't get sued can we suddenly just play Led Zeppelin's cashmere like There's a lot we could put in here so far, you know just play play cashmere under underneath this whole conversation Right now lines of Chucky
00:12:40
Speaker
Perfect. I mean, I gotta do that. That'd be a good Halloween episode. I got some editing. Hey, there's a lot on the plate right now for what needs to happen for this Halloween episode coming up. From what went from... TVD. Yeah, TVD everybody. Let's just skip everything. Let's record Christmas. We can do that. Sounds good. Overall though, I do like this if I had to rate this beer right now. The old if.
00:13:06
Speaker
We're not, Tony is not rating this week, but if someone should walk up to him on the street after hearing this episode and say, what do you rate the Handy Andy from Eagle Park Brewing? Out of five, I give it 3.75. Ooh, solid. I think I'm with you. What did I give it when I drank it? It's, I can lean more towards a four. I didn't check it in, so who knows. Loser. You know, but, so what I,
00:13:33
Speaker
Appreciate about this situation is I think like the the five or six ounces that are poured Yeah is the perfect amount for me to drink. I'm sure because As I drink it, I mean I still enjoy it but like I'm getting this the stickiness in my mouth Yeah, like it it it's almost like a Palate overload not in a I don't want to say like not in a bad way, but it's just like
00:13:59
Speaker
You know, I think it's just so subtle with everything that it's just like, I keep, every time I drink it, I'm like searching for more. I'm like, something else is there, something else is there, and it's not. And it's just like, so I'm like, all right, I've had enough of it. No, but you're right, it's thick and sweet. It's a sweet milk. You don't need 16 ounces of it. No.
00:14:16
Speaker
So that's why Brandon with the extra can. You guys enjoyed the end. Handy end. You're welcome. You haven't had the next, the other one yet. That's true. You can have handy end. On a separate note, there was one beer I had there that was crazy and they were out of the cans that I totally would have brought. It was a... What did they call it? They called it... They called it Child's Play, the beer.
00:14:45
Speaker
Hi, this episode is brought to you by Child's Play. It was a drum roll please. Keep doing the drum roll and talk about something else because I didn't find it yet, but that's cool. That's cool. It would have been funny if the name of the beer was drum roll please. Just making you do that. Oh, here we go. Okay, everybody. Anyway, it was a blue beer. So it was like a...
00:15:06
Speaker
Sour coconut. Did you just have a picture of that? Yeah, I don't think I sent you a picture, but I checked it in. I feel like I saw a picture of that. Maybe. Did you take a picture of it when you checked it in? I don't know. I might have. Oh, boy. Although, maybe in one of the beer groups recently, I think somebody posted a blue beer. Tiki Dave's Blue Hawaiian. It's a sour ale with pineapple, orange, toasted coconut, and blue spirulina. What the hell is that?
00:15:29
Speaker
I think Maplewood puts that in their razzle. Oh, razzle. Razzle-dazzle. You know, they do a raspberry one, I think, and a blue one. Or blue raspberry in that. Rizzle, drizzle, drizzle. Fizzle, drizzle. Fizzle, drizzle. How's shizzle, my nizzle? If only someone could look that up on a computer. I wish somebody had a computer. I wish we hired someone to be a part of the show to do that shit.
00:15:50
Speaker
It might be on my draft list for the Maltese. It wasn't the best thing I've ever had, but it was by far the most interesting beer I've had all year. And that's what the Maltese are all about. Let's talk about the Maltese, everybody. If you're not familiar with the Maltese, go back to December 2020. As you know, one of the greatest years, 2020. Wow.
00:16:14
Speaker
uh... you know the Maltese you can uh... find out that's all about yeah anyway uh... just say that they they as an aside they have it so reminds me of uh... short views
00:16:25
Speaker
OK. A ton of different beers. About, they had at least 15 to 20 beers on draft. All varying degrees of types. Hoppy, not happy at all. Crazy blue, tiki drinks. That sounds a lot like short feasts. And everything else in between, which is my kind of brewery, just because I like to try every last thing. Yeah. And it went a little crazy this time. That sounds good. The tiki drink sounds fun. You just brought up short feasts and reminded me that I actually have
00:16:54
Speaker
A short fuse for goodness shakes in my refrigerator. Not one of the ones that we have. Cousin KG brought it over. Try that. Try that soon. Sweet. Check it out. Oh, handy, Andy. You're all right, my book. Could I drink a full 16 ounces? Yeah. But I think by the time I did last week and I survived, you know?
00:17:19
Speaker
All right, well, I'm going to shotgun the other handy Andy before the night's over. We'll see what happens next. So next up, we're going to move on to the next beer. Let's do it.

Exploring Jam Sesh Sour Ale

00:17:29
Speaker
This one is pretty exciting to me. It's a sour. Would you like to see it? Well, no. I think there's a lot in here. So I think it needs a little, kind of like the glitter beer. All the glitter went to the bottom. Oh, yeah, that's right. Let me get all the glitter out of this. The fireworks in this.
00:17:46
Speaker
can need to be shaken before they're set up. I can't wait until it sprays all over the place after I leave. I think that's enough. You want me to shake it up? Yeah. This one's called Jam Sesh. And it's PB&J inspired ale. I swear to god, if this gets on my walls, you're dead, Clark. Clark, tell the kids what this is all about. This is a... Jeopardy. It's a farmhouse ale.
00:18:09
Speaker
Cezanne. But what kind of Cezanne? Oh my god. Is it a dorkbunder gold Cezanne? Well, beer geniuses, beer geniuses. Yeah, you know I can do the other one for this one.
00:18:22
Speaker
No, but it's peanut butter and jelly inspired, sour, with raspberry jam. Whoa. Whoa. Sick. Take a picture of that. Peanut butter milk drink. But it's good. Here, you want to add a little more? No, no. Anybody want a little more? Just a little bit more at the bottom there. Would you like this? A little bread at the bottom? There you go. It's very sludge. There's a raspberry seed right there. I can see it. I mean, there's like. True raspberries. This is a chunky looking beer.
00:18:52
Speaker
but smell it, taste it, holy shit.
00:18:55
Speaker
That smells like peanut butter and jelly. Raspberry peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Oh, man. This is exciting. All right. Going in for the first sip. It does. So everybody knows this. When I say it looks chunky, I mean, there are like little floaters in there. It's like a reddish brown, dark. Yeah, it's like a purple brown type. Yeah, reddish brown. You definitely cannot see through the glass. No, no. It's crazy. This literally tastes. It smells like raspberry. It smells like the Uncrustable that Benjamin had for lunch. Yes.
00:19:31
Speaker
Now see, on first sip, I feel like I could drink a whole 16 ounces of this, not of the handy handy. This is sweet. It does taste like raspberry, and it does have that peanut butter flavor to it. This is insane. This is very well done. I mean, they killed it with, it is 100% exactly what they say it is, in a great way. This is really good. It's not too sweet, not too sour.
00:19:50
Speaker
OK, that's surprising. Right? See? Wow.
00:20:00
Speaker
I was concerned, Ryan, you said it was a sour beer. I was like, I can already feel it. There's a tartness to it. But I think that's what they're attributing the sourness to. And that goes hand in hand with the berry. Yeah, raspberries are tart.
00:20:17
Speaker
This is ridiculous. It's not a pretty looking beer. No. Looking in my glasses is kind of grossing me out. Yeah, this is the one you want to hide with your mystery beers and you don't see. Yeah. Just kind of sip it in the back. You got a red solo cup for it in there. No, and this is like, um, the funny thing is like if they did any kind of filtering on it, they would probably lose so much of the beer. Yeah. Um, like it has to look like this. Right. You know. And it's seven and a half percent, so it's...
00:20:41
Speaker
You know, it's up there. But it's not crazy. Sour with raspberry, peanut butter, flour, and lactose. Peanut butter, flour, OK. Interesting. Peanut butter, flour. It's interesting. Is that literally like PB2? Or is it just like dehydrated? I'm just wondering if that's what it's like. Is that the same thing? Yeah.
00:20:58
Speaker
At least we want to make a peanut butter and jelly beer. I'll tell you that much. Somebody should look that up to see what peanut butter flour is. Yeah, I wonder if we have anybody who can find out what peanut butter flour is. Yeah, what is peanut butter flour, guys? Does anybody know? I don't know. Let's take a look. The design on the can is cool. It looks like some goat-like creature blowing on a horn, standing over what looks like a mason jar. Is it a chupacabra? No, and that's a snake. Right? Isn't it chupacabra? It's powder. No, chupacabra's not a snake. What is a chupacabra?
00:21:28
Speaker
I'm thinking... I'm thinking of an anaconda. I kinda like it.
00:21:40
Speaker
Oh, well, there you go. I just found the intro to the show. I thought it was, what was I watching the other day? And somebody was like, if maybe it was like on Discovery Channel or something, and they were talking about Sasquatch, and then they were talking about Chupacabras, and they're like, Chupacabras just, oh, no, it was, I think it was Gabriel Iglesias, the comedian, Fluffy, if you've ever seen him, think he was doing a thing about Chupacabras, and he's like, it's like the Mexican version of the Sasquatch.
00:22:06
Speaker
It's just smaller and skinnier and it just does the same thing. It scares children everywhere. I have our answer. Oh, thank you. We were killing time. Peanut butter flour is made from crushed and defatted peanuts and made into a powder. Powdered peanut butter is made from ground peanuts with some added sweeteners or salt.
00:22:28
Speaker
Interesting. So. So wait, what was the first one that they removed the fat? Yeah, it's confusing. Peanut flour is made from crushed and de-fatted peanuts. So yeah, I assume like somehow they remove the oil or something maybe? I don't know. Oh, low calorie? Sweet. Yeah, yeah. Is it low calorie? Yeah. So now I'm curious if like you went to like Adventures at Homebrew or like Northern Brew or whatever. I wonder if they sell peanut butter flour. Well, I don't know. I know those places sell like the peanut butter extract. Yeah.
00:22:56
Speaker
Is there an easy way to get into it? Yeah, but you could really overdo it. I don't know, I made a peanut butter porter one time that also I kind of overdid it with the PB2 PB2s I use that for the shakes those are good
00:23:09
Speaker
protein shake, man. Get some PB2, throw it right in there. Sweet. Yeah. It is sweet. Make a smoothie just like this. Just take a scoop of it and stick it in your mouth. I have tried it. It's pretty good. That's how I tried it the first time. I'm like, this is good. It's drying out my mouth, but it's delicious. PB2. So I've been trying to figure out if they do different fruits with this because I think that would be fun to try, but I can't quite seem to
00:23:30
Speaker
I want to just buy a four pack of this to like have at my house for randomly wanting to drink it and like
00:23:41
Speaker
have people try it. I'm going to pour you something. I'm not going to tell you anything about it. You can look at it. It's going to gross you out, like looking at it. Sorry, Eagle Park. It looks gross. But boy, the payoff of the aroma and the taste, it's worth. I'll look at the mucky. God forbid you have the one that has a peanut allergy.
00:24:01
Speaker
Okay, I was not typing in the right thing. They do have a ton. We got blackberry, we got double jam sesh. Jam sesh conquered great banana marshmallow and peanut butter.
00:24:13
Speaker
When does that one come out? Can we just get one of each shipped to us? Do they have a peanut butter and fluff? Let's contact Eagle Parker. But from now on, can you just send us some raspberry? The Concord grape intrigues me. Because that was one of my, as a kid, I remember my mom always had Concord grape. That was the jelly that I had growing up. It was always Concord grape. I never had raspberry or anything else. No preserves. It was always just straight up
00:24:39
Speaker
Purple grape, baby. It's probably the cheapest one to get. Absolutely. Absolutely. But it tastes good. Oh, yeah. Tastes really good. Now, I think you just do an almond butter one. That would be great. They're not going to. But if they did, that would be really good. They told me when I was there. They told you specifically you're not going to do an almond butter beer. They put it down, and they said, if you were wondering, I didn't even bring it up. They brought it up. You're telling me that they brought up. They put the beer down. We don't touch any other nuts.
00:25:09
Speaker
Yeah, I would, Braden, when we take our little trip, we need to search and see if we can find some more of this or any other...
00:25:18
Speaker
ones that might be around. And maybe we need to keep our eyes peeled from now on. Yeah. Well, so I've already got some ideas of stops that we can make along the way. Excellent. Not necessarily just breweries, but beer stores in general. Because I've already got a, I basically already looked out to see where New Blair's Strawberry Rhubarb Beer is. Excellent. And have a list of all the stores that have it. So. I've got the raspberry tart from this year. And had I gone up to Wisconsin today, I was going to bring back the peach one.
00:25:47
Speaker
Oh, yeah. That's available. And no, no, it's a bunch of peach of something. It's a different one. Like, oh, yeah. Mike just sent me a picture. I just I know I love the strawberry remover. Yeah. And I know that the Wisconsin Belgian Red is also readily available all the time. I will bring back a four pack of that. Did we talk about that? I don't think we had that on the New Glorious episode when it was me and you.
00:26:12
Speaker
I don't think so. That one's awesome. Have you ever had the Belgian Red before? I don't believe that. It's like drinking Cherry Jolly Ranchers. Yeah. It is ridiculous. I sort of remember you saying that. Yeah. It's my favorite beer from them. And I think it's like 4.5% or something. Yeah. It's crazy drinking. A lot of work goes into that beer, because I'm not mistaken on the American Homebrewers Association web page, they have
00:26:36
Speaker
recipe on how to make it or the recipe is out there they tell you how to do it and they age it like it's aged in barrels it's insane yeah there's a lot that goes into that beer but that's not what this episode is about we're talking about eagle park it's about eagle park brewing which i feel like i might have said eagle creek earlier so my apologies i don't think so if you did well i'm not going to edit it and i'm going to point it out you just changed it to eagle park here we are eagle park
00:27:00
Speaker
Can you say park in various different inflections for the next 20 minutes so we can get the right one to match what you said? Park, park, park, park, park, park, park, park, park. Where'd you go? Eagle pack. Eagle pack. Well, tick my cat. Tick my cat, eagle pack. This is awesome. This is, if I had to rate this on a one-day event. Again, if anyone just happens to walk by Tony any day. 4.25. Look up Tony's untapped ratings reader.
00:27:28
Speaker
I'm with you. Yeah, I would definitely. I was literally it was like it's good for two or four or five. Yeah, four or five. It's pretty close. I would like to try. I mean, I bet you that the peanut butter one would just kill it for me. That one would probably be a five for me. One hundred percent. Definitely would love to try the other variations. Absolutely. We'll have to keep our eye out and start shopping around as you know, it's going to start finding you go to Park Snoop around. I'm sorry. Eagle Creek is Clark called them.
00:27:58
Speaker
Either way. Tony, could you please say park in different inflections? Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. All right. Well, that's the episode, right? We have another story.

Tasting Fat Stacks Stout

00:28:15
Speaker
Oh, there's one more. What? Eagle Park.
00:28:18
Speaker
We'll just use that every time we say eagle park. What's this one? We've got fat stacks. When you sent us the picture of all the beers that you bought, because you were very excited, and you said, well, I'm either drinking all these beers alone or we're doing an episode. Yeah, well, I'm glad we're sharing some of them. But another part that I love about them is they're. That's the message of Clark. I'm like, delete.
00:28:43
Speaker
Not only are their beers fun, interesting, and delicious, their cans are fun and interesting as well. Yeah, their artwork is pretty rad. Go to their website, go to their Instagram, check it all out. Yeah, you'll see these three beers at least for this episode. But this last one is Fat Stacks, and I'm guessing some of you might be able to guess what it's about. It's an Imperial Stout with maple syrup.
00:29:07
Speaker
I thought that was about money. Coconuts. Actually, you know what? Just a side note there. We're talking about how cool the artwork is. It says that eagleparkbrewing.com, art by, at, beer, beer, B-E-A-R, B-E-A-R, dot co. Could be Bear Bear. Bear Bear. Did I say Bear Bear? You said it. Sorry.
00:29:25
Speaker
Hey man, these bears just run through me, you know what I mean? Bear Bears. Bear Bear, B-E-A-R-B-A-R dot to C-O. So yeah. Hats off. So that's super cool, super cool, super cool. Bear Bear is Milwaukee's creative studio and resography bears. Makers of things that don't look the same as everything else. Clark, have you had this one before? I did have this one at the brewery, I believe. Looks like Coca-Cola.
00:29:55
Speaker
Maybe it is. Maybe it's not. Maybe it's the new Coke Zero we're trying today. There's a new Coke Zero? Yeah. New recipe, man. Actually, I have it at home. It tastes the same. That's disappointing. I thought we could get maybe an F for the final pour on the new Coke Zero. Interesting aroma. Oh, cool. I've got a bunch of chunks in mine now.
00:30:25
Speaker
Ch-ch-chunks. Oh, if you guys would have seen that. So that's not a terrible thing. There's just some sediment. I didn't think to maybe I shouldn't have poured it so heavy and rich there. Yeah, hard. But that looked, I can see. I don't know if you guys can see that. Oh, yeah, you got some floaters around there. Oh, yeah, look at those chunks. There's some big chunks in there. It looks like you're rafting a beer, man. All right, here we go. Maybe you should stop.
00:30:55
Speaker
So this is supposed to be like chocolate chip pancakes, not just pancakes. Chocolate chip pancakes. Where are we going with this? Let's see. Definitely maple on the nose, that's for sure. Definitely maple. Very sweet, sugary maple. Yeah. Taste-wise, it's not super sweet. It's not as sweet as I thought it was going to be. I get maple flavor. It's definitely sweet.
00:31:18
Speaker
Yeah, it's sweet, but there's a little bitterness on the end. Yeah, it's not as sweet as Handy Handy, I'll tell you that much. Handy Handy can get pretty sweet. Pretty sweet if you know what I'm talking about. What are you talking about? We'll tell you after the show. Yeah, come see us after the show. What do you guys think about this one? What are you guys feeling? Brandon first. Clark, you already have your own.
00:31:43
Speaker
You have your mind made up, though. This is true. So the aroma is definitely super pleasant. And it leads me into believing that I'm going to be drinking something that's pancake-esque. What I'm struggling with is what seems to be, and I didn't know what it was until Clark said these are supposed to be chocolate chip pancakes. I'm getting an artificial chocolate. Yeah. And I don't know if it's, because it says, cocoa nibs, but.
00:32:12
Speaker
feel like the way that that's playing with the maple syrup in there it does kind of or whatever is in there as far as what malts were used it does kind of give off this that's the bitterness I feel like I'm also getting yeah like an artificial weirdness that comes off bitter I'm gonna go ahead swirl my chunks around again hold on almost like I
00:32:35
Speaker
They're floating to the top. Not burnt, but burnt-esque, I would say. Yeah, you're right. And yeah, there's something with everything that's not quite meshy. It's like kind of hitting each other. We're like, we're trying to work together. Yeah.
00:32:53
Speaker
It's real close, because this is fine. I mean, it's good. It's not bad. If you had told me this was not chocolate chip, or let's say, sorry, if the beer itself was not, it was just pancakes and maple syrup and not chocolate, take those cocoa nibs out. I think I would enjoy this a lot more. Sure, yeah. For what it is, for being a pancake beer. I think you're right on that. I think I agree with you.
00:33:22
Speaker
The chunks that I got at the bottom have really thrown me off. I'm sorry. I'm curious to what that is. It is floating now. Did they legit? You should take a picture of it. Did they legit? Floating junk. Maybe it's pancake batter. I don't know. You know, there's sediment in beers. I'm not knocking it off. It just kind of threw me off because I wasn't expecting it. Or that much of it. In the chunks.
00:33:49
Speaker
I mean, the next sip I have is I'm going to sip the chunk. Yeah, I'm not a fan of chunks in beer, if anyone was wondering. You know what's weird? So something I saw in the beer groups is something I've never noticed, or luckily have not ran into yet, is people that have barrel-aged stouts or whatever. People have posted in beer groups that they're pouring out their beer.
00:34:12
Speaker
a slimy, almost looks like a slug comes out. There's a name to that. But I'm like, what? And it's not necessarily a good thing, but when I started seeing that, I'm like, holy hell, that would creep me the fuck out. I would not drink the rest of the beer.
00:34:28
Speaker
But it literally looks like sediment. It's like a slimy slug. Somebody was pouring a video of it and they're like, I saw it in here and it's like bloop. Well, luckily there's no slimy slug in this. Yeah, so this is definitely not that, but yeah. The more sense I've taken of this, the more I've actually come to like it. That chocolate and maple
00:34:52
Speaker
It's a little nicer, but there's a bitterness that's throwing it off for me. I'm kind of running on the camp now that, you know, again, it gets a little better. What's weird now is I just took a sip and I swear to God, I almost got like a buttery-ness, which was kind of odd. But I'm like, Clark's warming his up. I'm wondering if as these get warmer.
00:35:13
Speaker
Like the chocolate kind of settles out a little bit more. Maybe. Maybe the chunks will settle too. This would be a good one, like, to revisit room temperature. For sure. Well, yeah, your chunks are going very good. There you go. Well, like I said, by the fire. And you guys will be ready to go. Brandon, are you going to have both?
00:35:28
Speaker
I'm just joking. Brand, we're taking these cannon with us, baby. Actually, those are going to be fun to drink. You can drink that with pancakes. Yeah, that's how we're going to start pancakes and cowboy steaks. When you think about it, when you do have chocolate chip pancakes, I like them. I've never been a huge fan of them. Because I think there is, especially if you use semi-sweet chocolate chips, that does give you that bitterness.
00:35:52
Speaker
No, I get that. But why in the world do anybody ever want to mess with something as holy and lovely as just a regular pancake? Yeah, I agree. So I take my final sip because a little bit that's left, I'm only going to end up with chunks in my mouth. So Tony, someone's randomly walking by you. Typical Sunday night for Tony. Ask you to rate it just out of the blue. 1 to 5. To be honest, I'd probably give this 3.5.
00:36:21
Speaker
Really? Oh, that was more generous than I thought you would be. Yeah, no, 3.5. It's because it is a good, I think it's a good stout. I actually would like to taste the base of the stout without the chocolate and the maple, because I feel like that's a good imperial stout that's not overly sweet. I will say for all three beers,
00:36:45
Speaker
Well, what was the peanut butter and jelly? Seven and a half. Seven and a half. So those are, I mean, 10, 10, and seven and a half. This one's 10? No. Yeah, this one's 10. There you go. This one's 10. Yeah, this. Get out. Get out of me, demon. Here comes the slug.
00:37:08
Speaker
These beers are easy drinking, and they're good, and they're refreshing. This isn't overly sweet. The first one was a bit sweet, but I think the cashmere melon also kind of played into that a bit more. The peanut butter and jelly one was very good. And this one, that bitterness has kind of subsided for me. The last couple of sips, it's not, you know, let's crack open the other one, and let's just keep going and see how. And then we do the handy-andy one.
00:37:33
Speaker
Let's see how that is all warmed up. No. Well, yeah. So I would say that if I were to rank my favorites of the evening, it would obviously be Jam Sesh, for sure, into Handy Andy, and ending it with fat stacks. And I would drink all three again, for sure. Just because I rated them one way doesn't mean I wouldn't change it in the future. But as of right now, me trying these,
00:38:01
Speaker
They're all good beers and worth trying. If anybody gets a chance to do it, I would say go seek them out because nothing like a maple syrup stout in a melon triple IPA that fucking drinks almost like a pale ale. Well, that's what I liked

Final Thoughts and Recommendations

00:38:15
Speaker
about all three of them. They're fun to try. Absolutely. And I enjoyed them. It wasn't like, oh, this one was a complete mess. No, no, no. But they're all different. And our drinking of this is in no way, sorry to cut you off, but I did.
00:38:28
Speaker
Yeah, that's what he gets paid for. He gets paid to get cut out. Our drinking and talking about this is no way to discourage people from drinking, you know, trying anything. You know, there's been things on here that we've talked about that we just don't like, but it's just not necessarily our style. Tastes is completely subjective. But that being said,
00:38:50
Speaker
These are definitely worth trying regardless of what you think. Unless you're allergic to peanuts. No, don't. Do not drink the jam sesh. Don't do it. Do not do it. Don't do it. It's a bad idea. Look at all these pub snacks next to me. I didn't even realize these were here. I brought them for you. Thanks, man. Guys.
00:39:07
Speaker
He threw you one, that was nice. Clark, thanks for... Got some turkey for you to try, too. Oh, yeah, dude, I'm still snacking on the last batch. Very good. Oh, you still have a hot sauce here that I brought maybe two recordings ago. You gave me one. No, you took it last time. The last time I gave it to you. Yeah, I could use it. It's good. Oh, good. Thanks, man. Put on my chocolate chip pancakes. Well, that's what lime, cilantro, jalapeno hot sauce is all about. Yeah, I put a little bit of this in there.
00:39:31
Speaker
with the last can maybe oh maybe that's the chunks that's what it was i put a little bit of your sauce well guys i got some habaneros so i got uh i got some habaneros i just picked so there was some habanero hot sauce i got some rose peppers if you want some yeah i'll trade you with habaneros sounds good oh soon the the the peppering hour will be coming soon the pepper hour
00:39:50
Speaker
Not peppering. Clark, these were good picks of beers. These was. These was. These beers was nice. Good selection of beers for an episode, man. Well, thanks for indulging me. I definitely want to go back because they're going to have so many other things to try every time. You are welcome to bring us beer to talk about on this show anytime you'd like, Clark. Oh, great. Did you not know then that you could do that? I was like, oh, I hope they don't mind. We will make any episode about Clark if he brings beer.
00:40:17
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, man. I mean you can host more episodes like fully if you want to bring all the dinner. I should have just done one at the brewery when I was there. You could have. This is Clark reporting live from Eagle Creek. We're going onward. Well, yeah. Can you say Park 20 times a different effect? Park. Park. Park. Park. Park. Pork. Perk. Perk. Prack.
00:40:40
Speaker
That last one I think was perfect. Yeah, that's what we're keeping. Eagle prac. Eagle prac. Eagle park brewing up there in Wisconsin. This is good. This is fun. This is really tasty. You read it at the beginning. What's the city it's from? Oh.
00:40:55
Speaker
So I'm assuming is that where their other location is? Milwaukee and Muskego is where it says that. That's where that's the one I went to. There's another location in Hamilton which is I think in the city. A musical. Right. The name comes from its two brothers.
00:41:10
Speaker
No, no, that's a different brewery. That's in, that's in like... Oh, like Brandons. Naperville, yeah. Glasser. You're thinking, you're thinking... The brewery was founded by two gentlemen who happened to be brothers that lived together growing up, probably with their family, who now live here together. How did they... And the two cross streets had Eagle and Park in their name. Or maybe it was Creek, can't remember.
00:41:33
Speaker
Oh boy. It's probably Park because that's the name of the fucking brewery, man. That's another can that we're staring at. Yikes. You're killing the smells. They also make spirits. Just so you know. Like the Ghostbusters? Yeah. They made the spirits for the new Ghostbusters movie. Excellent. Good. I just watched the trailer again today. What spirits do they make? Oh, we've got vodka, gin, vanilla, cheesecake, cream, liqueur.
00:41:57
Speaker
It's a hard pass. Before he got the core, I was like vanilla cheesecake, that doesn't fit in with the spirit. That's not a spirit, dude. That's baked good. It says it's just great over ice. Let's do it. All right. We should get some of that. I was this close to buying a pumpkin spiced iced coffee.
00:42:14
Speaker
like container at the grocery store because it says I can't even I literally can't even on the bottom of it. And I'm like, this is funny. I kind of want this. It's funny. I haven't drank it. I bought it when I was on vacation in June. It was a hard coffee.
00:42:30
Speaker
How was that? I didn't drink it. Oh. If it's the one that my mom purchased, she bought a hard coffee the last time she was, or two times ago when she came in. And we tried it and she opened it up. She didn't shake it well enough. And so one night I was like, oh, I'll give it a try, shook it up, opened it.
00:42:47
Speaker
It was pretty fucking good. It tasted like Yoo-hoo. So I don't know if it was another brewery we were going to talk about probably in a few weeks up in Michigan, ArcLight. They had a hard coffee on draft, and I think Eagle Park might have as well.
00:43:02
Speaker
Eagle Creek, sorry. But no, I'm going, man, that sounds delicious. Which one do you have? Take a look real quick. I mean, this has nothing to do with the episode, but now I'm interested, cuz I wanna know if it's the same one. Cuz if it's the same one, it's pretty good. It was like an iced mocha, hard coffee. Smooth. That's it, mocha latte. You gotta shake it up for.
00:43:27
Speaker
If you guys wanna try it, I'd be down to have some because it is, it's like drinking chocolate milk, man. Shake well. Mm-hm, it's like drinking chocolate milk. We got an after the final pour we gotta do anyway. Let's not do that. All right, yeah, Eagle Park Brewing up there in Wisconsin. Clark, thank you for providing the beers. It was very kind of you. Very welcome. Not being around for Hubbard's Cave and you still provided beers for this next episode. Lovely. Brandon, love you, man. Love you too, bro. Clark, welcome back, baby. Peace out.
00:43:56
Speaker

I do. I got a lot of work tomorrow. Playing hostas on the side of my house.
