My father knows every angle on a bumper pool table. He used to say, there's no game that approximates real life better than bumper pool. Bumpers can block your path to the hole, or they might be the very thing you need to hit in order to find success.

These days I'm finding a lot of wisdom in my father's bumper pool metaphor. I recently plowed into a couple of elementary school children crossing the street near Lake Drive.

Maybe those children were the bumper I needed to hit. Honestly, if I hadn't hit them, i wouldn't be back home on house arrest, hanging with my dad and playing bumper pool again.

Some might say coming back home at age 39 to wait for a vehicular assault trial is a big bumper, but for all I know, it could be the start of something amazing for me.
