Introduction to the Podcast
00:00:00
Speaker
Today we're talking about everything that's included with your Run Disney registration.
00:00:04
Speaker
Plus, we chat with a special guest about leveraging the power of being a part of your local running community.
00:00:19
Speaker
Hey everyone, welcome to episode number 14 of the podcast.
00:00:22
Speaker
We are loving creating this show.
00:00:24
Speaker
Erica, I'm having a super good time.
00:00:26
Speaker
You know, we started this because we wanted to help runners, especially those that are signed up for or thinking about signing up for a run Disney race, feel confident, prepared, inspired, all the things for their run Disney race, right?
00:00:40
Speaker
And even if it's not a run Disney race, we just hope people feel all those things as we just share tips and tricks and all
Future Podcast Topics
00:00:47
Speaker
I'm excited about today's topic, but before we get into that, what's coming up in the next couple of weeks?
00:00:53
Speaker
So next week we're going to talk about how to survive the corral.
00:00:57
Speaker
We have lots of things to say about that, I feel like.
00:00:59
Speaker
I think what's going to be interesting about that one is that we've started, between the two of us, we've started in all of them.
00:01:04
Speaker
All of them, yeah.
00:01:05
Speaker
So I can tell you what A is like.
00:01:08
Speaker
And we can tell you what G or whatever that back one was like.
00:01:12
Speaker
So we'll cover that.
00:01:15
Speaker
And then after that.
00:01:16
Speaker
The week after that, we're going to talk about why you should practice everything at home, your nutrition, your shoes, your clothing, your costume.
00:01:24
Speaker
You don't want to leave anything brand new for race day.
00:01:26
Speaker
I even I practice sleeping at home, too.
00:01:31
Speaker
Going to bed early?
00:01:34
Speaker
I'm not getting up early.
00:01:35
Speaker
That is not when you practice, do you?
00:01:39
Speaker
I'll figure that out.
00:01:40
Speaker
We'll create the list of things we suggest.
00:01:43
Speaker
Practice this at home before you show up to the race because you don't want to try that the first day.
00:01:48
Speaker
Or your first race.
Listener Reviews and Feedback
00:01:50
Speaker
So we like to read reviews on the podcast.
00:01:52
Speaker
We do that because it's helpful and affirming and all that stuff, but we got a new one.
00:01:59
Speaker
And I loved this one.
00:02:01
Speaker
I already read it.
00:02:02
Speaker
Would you be willing to read it on the podcast?
00:02:04
Speaker
So this one is from Caitlin Mixon.
00:02:08
Speaker
Um, she says, I just signed up for my first local 5k.
00:02:11
Speaker
I'm one year postpartum finding a new hobby with hopes of one day running at Disney.
00:02:17
Speaker
I appreciate how they break down the lingo for even the newest runners.
00:02:21
Speaker
Oh, that's awesome.
00:02:22
Speaker
We, that was a couple episodes ago.
00:02:24
Speaker
I think when we broke down all the Disney words.
00:02:28
Speaker
Well, I hope this is, I hope this is helpful.
00:02:31
Speaker
I love that you're doing this Caitlin after you've had your babies.
00:02:34
Speaker
So we also got an email.
00:02:36
Speaker
Well, actually a couple messages.
00:02:37
Speaker
I thought Lori from Boston.
00:02:40
Speaker
That was how she signed it at the bottom.
00:02:42
Speaker
And I thought immediately, you know that commercial where, I don't know, the cousin from Boston.
00:02:47
Speaker
You remember that?
00:02:49
Speaker
Anyway, when it said from Boston.
00:02:51
Speaker
So Lori from Boston asked a question and I loved it.
00:02:55
Speaker
And I thought I even texted her right back and said, Hey, can we answer that on the podcast?
00:02:59
Speaker
She said, that'd be great.
00:03:00
Speaker
So here's the gist of her email was she wanted to know what we do post marathon for recovery, not just the day of, but you know, you, you, it takes so much out of you.
00:03:12
Speaker
That it takes a long time to recover from that.
00:03:15
Speaker
Your body and your mind and everything takes a beating.
00:03:18
Speaker
So she was asking about our post marathon routine.
00:03:22
Speaker
Would you be willing to share some
Post-Marathon Recovery Tips
00:03:23
Speaker
I can share some of mine.
00:03:25
Speaker
So what do you do?
00:03:26
Speaker
How do you want to start?
00:03:27
Speaker
Like the day of the marathon?
00:03:28
Speaker
Yeah, I think that's good.
00:03:29
Speaker
But what do you do kind of the rest of the day after you finish the marathon?
00:03:33
Speaker
So, um, you definitely want to have a lot of protein the day of the marathon after you finish racing.
00:03:41
Speaker
Um, that's going to help with your muscle recovery, rebuilding all of the things, um, definitely want to keep taking in those electrolytes.
00:03:48
Speaker
You have probably sweat a lot.
00:03:51
Speaker
And so you want to re replenish all of that.
00:03:54
Speaker
Also things like, you know, continue to walk, continue to stretch.
00:03:59
Speaker
painfully foam roll my way through, you know, that's going to be really helpful as well.
00:04:06
Speaker
If you are at a place where you have the ability to take an Epsom salt bath, that's also really helpful.
00:04:11
Speaker
I like to move the most of the day.
00:04:14
Speaker
I really want to take a nap.
00:04:15
Speaker
And sometimes I do, but what I don't do is go to bed for the day.
00:04:19
Speaker
You're going to want to lay still, but don't do it.
00:04:21
Speaker
Or turn a movie on or whatever.
00:04:23
Speaker
And I'm sure that there's some science behind that, whether that's a good idea or not.
00:04:28
Speaker
But for me and my experiences, I keep moving.
00:04:30
Speaker
So we, um, sometimes we have gone to a park, but we don't like overdo it.
00:04:36
Speaker
You know, we, we, uh, theme park.
00:04:37
Speaker
So we'll just, you know, casually walk around and things like that and just keep things moving, but we don't go straight back to the hotel and crash for the day.
00:04:46
Speaker
Uh, what about like kind of getting back into normal life?
00:04:50
Speaker
We've, we've jumped on a plane the next day, which is hard on the body, you know, but how, you know, you get home, how do you get back into your normal life?
00:04:57
Speaker
So I think like for the first week I try to do just a good bit of walking, no running, just walking.
00:05:03
Speaker
Um, but try to get out every day for at least, you know, I don't know, 45 minutes for an hour.
00:05:09
Speaker
And then I will try to do my first really slow, easy jog about a week after the marathon.
00:05:16
Speaker
The other thing that can happen to your body, there's like a science behind this, is that it's really common for runners to get sick right after they finish a marathon.
00:05:24
Speaker
So like maybe doing some like airborne or, you know, some sort of-
00:05:29
Speaker
two of the factors there and there might be more, but two of them are that you, uh, your immune system's way down.
00:05:35
Speaker
Because you just put your body through all that stress and distress, but then you're also around 30,000 people who just did the same thing.
00:05:44
Speaker
So like you catch something and then when you're standing in the corral, there is no way around the fact that you're going to be real close with a few hundred people, whatever.
00:05:52
Speaker
So yeah, you do come home.
00:05:54
Speaker
So a little cruddy.
00:05:55
Speaker
Try to do some immunity boosting.
00:05:59
Speaker
We've never talked about that on the podcast.
00:06:00
Speaker
We, I start doing some airborne or whatever that stuff is called emergency about a week before.
00:06:05
Speaker
And I will continue doing it once we get home.
00:06:09
Speaker
Um, the other thing that can happen to you after a race, not can it will, is that you'll get like the post run blues.
00:06:15
Speaker
This, this, this is an emotional thing.
00:06:18
Speaker
You just feel really depressed.
00:06:20
Speaker
Um, and so I think like getting out and walking also is going to help with that.
00:06:24
Speaker
Um, I've had to go two ways.
00:06:26
Speaker
One, I've thought I'm never running again.
00:06:27
Speaker
And then I had the other thought where I'm like, uh, I don't have any races.
00:06:31
Speaker
I'm not signed up for anything.
00:06:32
Speaker
I, you know, like, what am I doing with my life?
00:06:35
Speaker
You know, like, there's just like, kind of, it's like kind of sad.
00:06:38
Speaker
Like, yeah, it's a real thing.
00:06:39
Speaker
You can't really describe it.
00:06:41
Speaker
But I would say that it's normal.
00:06:44
Speaker
That you're not broken.
00:06:45
Speaker
You know, it's not like you did something wrong.
00:06:47
Speaker
That a lot of us runners on those long distances will go through like an emotional roller coaster the next week, maybe even two.
Training Between Races
00:06:56
Speaker
So what if you do have another race after the marathon?
00:06:58
Speaker
You mean like this year when we have three races back to back?
00:07:03
Speaker
yeah so we have done the marathon walt disney world marathon on sunday in 2024 and then ran the disneyland half the next sunday that was a bit much yeah but this time it is on you know whatever january 7th or 10th or whatever it is and then three weeks later is the disneyland so we have three weeks to get ready for our next race any tips or thoughts of what you're gonna do
00:07:26
Speaker
I mean, probably similar to what I just said.
00:07:29
Speaker
Although I'm going to get back into it a little bit.
00:07:31
Speaker
Are you going to put any long runs in there?
00:07:32
Speaker
I think that's my question.
00:07:34
Speaker
I'll probably try to do, you said three weeks later.
00:07:37
Speaker
I'll probably try to do at least one.
00:07:42
Speaker
At least one long run.
00:07:43
Speaker
If you had to guess.
00:07:48
Speaker
Uh, you know what I'm going to do?
00:07:50
Speaker
I'm going to text clay and say, what do you need me to do?
00:07:54
Speaker
Oh, you bring up clay.
00:07:55
Speaker
I'm going to come home and be like, Hey, Sarah, I'm on your schedule, right?
00:07:58
Speaker
Like I need to come in for a massage.
00:08:01
Speaker
We did that last time between the two.
00:08:03
Speaker
I had her booked like two months in advance for the week between the two races, you know?
00:08:09
Speaker
You have the ability to do that.
00:08:11
Speaker
Sports massage therapist is a, is a,
00:08:14
Speaker
You know, whether you're doing another race or not, we go see Sarah, our sports massage person, not person, like VIP.
00:08:23
Speaker
MIP, most important person.
00:08:26
Speaker
I will go see her the week before the race and after.
00:08:31
Speaker
She gets me ready and
Run Disney Registration Perks
00:08:32
Speaker
helps me get back to her.
00:08:33
Speaker
And this is not like a relaxing, like Zen massage.
00:08:37
Speaker
Like she finds all the spicy places.
00:08:41
Speaker
Okay, Lori, I hope that helps.
00:08:43
Speaker
I don't have anything else to add, do you?
00:08:46
Speaker
Okay, so later in this episode, Erica, we're going to talk about what's included in your Run Disney registration.
00:08:51
Speaker
But first, we have a special guest.
00:08:53
Speaker
And we're going to talk to Evan, who is the president of the Peachtree City Running Club, one of the largest running clubs in the Southeast.
00:09:01
Speaker
I think it's the second largest in the state of Georgia.
00:09:04
Speaker
The only one bigger, I think, is the Atlanta one.
00:09:07
Speaker
So anyway, we're going to talk to him about being a part of a run club.
Peachtree City Running Club Insights
00:09:10
Speaker
You're going to love it.
00:09:14
Speaker
This is super exciting.
00:09:14
Speaker
We've got a friend on the podcast.
00:09:17
Speaker
Evan is the president of the Peachtree City Running Club.
00:09:20
Speaker
And if you don't know what the Peachtree City Running Club is, it's a big deal in the Atlanta area.
00:09:24
Speaker
So we're from Atlanta, Georgia.
00:09:26
Speaker
This running club, not only is it big, like their involvement in the community, just the impact they have on the, not just the running community, like the community in general.
00:09:36
Speaker
It's pretty amazing.
00:09:37
Speaker
So Evan, welcome to the podcast.
00:09:39
Speaker
We're super excited to have you.
00:09:40
Speaker
Can you give us a little background on who you are and what you do and what it means to be the president of the Run Club?
00:09:45
Speaker
Thank you so much for having me, AJ and Erica.
00:09:48
Speaker
Really, really excited to be here.
00:09:50
Speaker
So, you know, I started running when I was young.
00:09:57
Speaker
last man on the team kind of thing in middle school and high school with the one mile and then the one and two mile, last man on the team in cross country.
00:10:08
Speaker
But it was such a rewarding experience because it taught me how to run.
00:10:13
Speaker
And I just had, and I still have this learner's attitude, this always growing, always looking for like, just honestly, how to, how to do a little bit better, but
00:10:23
Speaker
always doing the basics, which is what every runner needs to start doing and always do.
00:10:28
Speaker
And so my career has been in like operations management and also doing consulting and organizational development.
00:10:37
Speaker
So I love building community and building organizations and also running great events like running events, summer track series and things like that, but especially love helping new people find community
00:10:51
Speaker
in running and develop themselves as runners.
00:10:56
Speaker
Can you give us like this, like what's your running, like are you a half marathoner?
00:11:01
Speaker
What's your favorite distance?
00:11:02
Speaker
Do you love a good 5k?
00:11:03
Speaker
Like what do you like?
00:11:06
Speaker
I, for years, did a lot of 5Ks.
00:11:09
Speaker
It's just such an accessible event, but I've kind of grown into 10Ks and half marathons.
00:11:15
Speaker
I would love to run a marathon.
00:11:17
Speaker
That's a goal for next year.
00:11:19
Speaker
Again, always learning, always growing.
00:11:21
Speaker
And really caught the trail running bug recently.
00:11:24
Speaker
So getting to do some really cool stuff.
00:11:27
Speaker
It wasn't a team event, but we informally threw together a team and just recently did a 50K, which is like 32 or 31.2 miles.
00:11:37
Speaker
Did a lot of walking.
00:11:38
Speaker
Let me just say that.
00:11:39
Speaker
Did a lot, a lot of walking.
00:11:42
Speaker
But we got it done and it was so much fun.
00:11:44
Speaker
That sounds awesome.
00:11:45
Speaker
Evan, for those new to running, can you describe what a running club is?
00:11:49
Speaker
What do you guys do and kind of who it's for?
00:11:51
Speaker
Great question, Erica.
00:11:52
Speaker
Like, you know, it's a very solitary event.
00:11:55
Speaker
It's a very solitary like endeavor.
00:11:59
Speaker
And a lot of us spend a lot of time doing that by ourselves.
00:12:01
Speaker
Or we might throw together a running, little running crew, or we might have a running or walking buddy.
00:12:07
Speaker
But inevitably, life circumstances kind of can throw that off and those things can dissolve.
00:12:12
Speaker
What a running club is, and the Petri City Running Club is a place for like-minded people who want to discover a fitness journey and walking and running or reach new goals, can connect with other people.
00:12:24
Speaker
And it makes it easier in the context of those relationships to develop.
00:12:28
Speaker
So you're not just relying on one or two running buddies, but you have a whole network of people that you can get to know and find your people in that group and then develop according to how
Peachtree City Classic Race Details
00:12:40
Speaker
And something that I get to do and we get to do as a running club that I can't do by myself is we give back in really big ways to our community.
00:12:48
Speaker
We give a lot of scholarships to graduating high school runners.
00:12:52
Speaker
We help, you know, invest in the infrastructure of our running spaces in the community.
00:12:58
Speaker
We sponsor a summer track series that's free.
00:13:01
Speaker
We had over 600 registrants this past summer for a five-week series that's mostly centered toward children and teens, but also the whole family can participate.
00:13:12
Speaker
So we're all about developing youth runners and the future of running.
00:13:18
Speaker
For somebody who's maybe new to running or just has that like, um, imposter syndrome kind of mentality of like, I don't know if I belong in this group of 10, 20, 30 runners on a Saturday morning, you know, what's your advice for that person as they kind of walk up and it can be intimidating.
00:13:32
Speaker
I mean, I'm, I'm intimidated every time I walk to a race start.
00:13:35
Speaker
And so like when you walk up to this, you know, run club, what do you want the new person new to running to know about joining that group?
00:13:43
Speaker
Number one, I want you to know that we've all been beginning runners, everybody.
00:13:49
Speaker
And so we are a very gracious group of people who want to bring you in to where you need to be.
00:13:57
Speaker
And we have club coaches.
00:13:59
Speaker
So we have Road Running Club of America certified.
00:14:03
Speaker
We have certified coaches who will provide coaching to members of our club and help you get a good start.
00:14:11
Speaker
We do Couch to 5K.
00:14:14
Speaker
And so we're here to help you.
00:14:17
Speaker
We also just have a lot of people with experience who are also, they're not in any hurry.
00:14:22
Speaker
They don't want to outpace you.
00:14:23
Speaker
They want to bring you along.
00:14:25
Speaker
So we have running groups that meet every week.
00:14:27
Speaker
There are some that are formally sponsored club running groups at different paces.
00:14:33
Speaker
They include walking and running groups.
00:14:35
Speaker
And so we'd love for you to be a part of those.
00:14:38
Speaker
And as you meet people in the club and sure, you got to put forth a little effort to do that.
00:14:42
Speaker
But as you meet people in the club, you're going to find your people.
00:14:45
Speaker
You're going to figure out who walks like I want to walk, who runs or run walks like I want to run walk.
00:14:52
Speaker
There's somebody for everybody.
00:14:56
Speaker
Come on in and enjoy what we have to offer in the relationships.
00:15:03
Speaker
Can we talk about some of the events you host, uh, in the year?
00:15:06
Speaker
I know, um, the peach tree city classics coming up and I brought props.
00:15:10
Speaker
Um, so I have my finisher metal from, well, this is last year.
00:15:13
Speaker
I've also got my finisher metal.
00:15:15
Speaker
Uh, so I've done the classic twice and I say the classic, I've done the 15 K, but I know that you've got multiple distances.
00:15:21
Speaker
Can you tell us it's coming up in a couple of weeks here in October.
00:15:24
Speaker
Can you tell us about the, uh, the peach tree city classic?
00:15:28
Speaker
The Peachtree City Classic is amazing.
00:15:31
Speaker
It is two distances.
00:15:33
Speaker
It is the 5K, again, a very accessible event to train for and to race in.
00:15:38
Speaker
And there's the 15K, like you said, AJ, which is about 9.3 miles.
00:15:43
Speaker
If you are new to running, you've never done a race before, you can easily walk or run or walk run the 5k.
00:15:52
Speaker
It is on multi-use paths, almost starts out on the road, but very quickly turns into multi-use paths.
00:15:59
Speaker
meandering through green spaces behind neighborhoods, around ponds.
00:16:04
Speaker
You might even see a deer in the distance.
00:16:08
Speaker
We have a lot of very docile deer in the community.
00:16:11
Speaker
They're beautiful to look at.
00:16:12
Speaker
I mean, we draw like 1,500 runners across both distances.
00:16:17
Speaker
So it's just kind of a rolling party and you're going to have a great time.
00:16:22
Speaker
If you're training for a half marathon or a marathon that occurs later in the fall, the winter, or even in the spring, this nine mile 15K is a great step up distance to help you in your training.
00:16:35
Speaker
So if you're progressing and you want to you want to test out your fitness at a slightly farther distance, but not your race goal distance.
00:16:45
Speaker
Jump into the 15K.
00:16:47
Speaker
It also is mostly on multi-use paths and it's a whole lot of fun and it's a beautiful course.
00:16:53
Speaker
That's what Erica and I are doing.
00:16:54
Speaker
We're training for the Walt Disney World Marathon.
00:16:56
Speaker
I think, what do we have left?
00:16:57
Speaker
We've got 14 weeks or something left in our training.
00:17:01
Speaker
And this lands pretty good in our distance needs in our training.
00:17:06
Speaker
So we're doing that exact same thing.
00:17:08
Speaker
And you said the beauty of the course.
00:17:11
Speaker
I think if you've never been to Peachtree City, south of Atlanta, it's amazing.
00:17:17
Speaker
Like they're just so quiet.
00:17:19
Speaker
Even on a race day.
00:17:20
Speaker
Also, you know what I always love and I think everybody loves is the tunnels.
00:17:25
Speaker
Like on this course, it goes under several roads.
00:17:28
Speaker
And then, like you said, like ponds and lakes and Lake Peachtree is awesome.
00:17:32
Speaker
Anything new on this year's course?
00:17:34
Speaker
Is it the same course that I should expect from last year?
00:17:37
Speaker
It's the same course.
00:17:39
Speaker
It is a beautiful course.
00:17:41
Speaker
And as you said, AJ, Peachtree City has about 100 miles of multi-use paths.
00:17:45
Speaker
And fear not if you're like, oh my gosh, tunnel, that's scary.
00:17:50
Speaker
They're very short.
00:17:51
Speaker
It's just a little tunnel.
00:17:54
Speaker
To me, it makes the course interesting.
00:17:56
Speaker
Here's what's different about running the 5K or 15K at the Peachtree City Classic than running a traditional road race.
00:18:04
Speaker
A lot of times, at least in our area, you're on a stretch of road and you can see way down that road.
00:18:10
Speaker
And you can feel like, especially as a new runner, wow, I've got a long way to go.
00:18:14
Speaker
I can see way down there.
00:18:16
Speaker
I think that's the next mile or the next aid station.
00:18:20
Speaker
And it feels like a long way.
00:18:22
Speaker
But on the multi-use paths, you're turning, you're twisting.
00:18:27
Speaker
It's got a lot of different features, a lot of things to look at.
00:18:31
Speaker
You're changing scenery often.
00:18:33
Speaker
So it just doesn't get boring and it's a lot of fun.
00:18:36
Speaker
And before you know it, you're at the next aid station.
00:18:38
Speaker
Before you know it, you're crossing the finish and you're going to get this year's finisher medal, both the 15K and the 5K feature.
00:18:46
Speaker
You get a finisher medal.
00:18:48
Speaker
Oh, that sounds awesome.
00:18:49
Speaker
We're celebrating our 45th running of the Peachtree City Classic.
Race Organization and Volunteer Reliance
00:18:54
Speaker
And our race director is so amazing.
00:18:56
Speaker
Shelly Collins did a great job designing this year's shirt.
00:19:00
Speaker
So come get this totally rad 80s shirt.
00:19:03
Speaker
We started the race in the early 80s.
00:19:06
Speaker
So celebrating 45 years.
00:19:08
Speaker
You don't want to miss it.
00:19:09
Speaker
I would say for anybody that's in the Peachtree or the Atlanta area or even beyond that, like state of Georgia, whatever, like running in Peachtree City is a very special thing.
00:19:18
Speaker
So like either of these races, even if it's just the 5K because you're not up to a long distance, whatever, like it is worth coming to the town, not just to run it, but to see it.
00:19:28
Speaker
Like it's an amazing, it's an amazing place to be a part of.
00:19:32
Speaker
Thanks for giving us some time.
00:19:34
Speaker
That was all of our questions.
00:19:35
Speaker
Do you have, not that we're like famous or anything, but do you have anything that you're like, we can answer or chat about before we let you go?
00:19:42
Speaker
Well, what have you experienced in races, whether it be at the Peachtree City Classic or other races that you think race directors should keep in mind?
00:19:55
Speaker
What do we need to know to make sure our events cater especially to the new runner?
00:20:01
Speaker
That's a really good question.
00:20:02
Speaker
Do you have any answers before I go?
00:20:04
Speaker
I mean, I always have the same topic.
00:20:06
Speaker
So my biggest question and concern anytime I'm coming up to a new race course is where are the porta potties going to be located?
00:20:14
Speaker
Because I like to, you know, I like to plan that out.
00:20:18
Speaker
So, uh, so that, that's really my, that's always my biggest question.
00:20:22
Speaker
Erica does like to know.
00:20:24
Speaker
Another reason to be early.
00:20:26
Speaker
Well, the Peachtree City Classic on October 18th is centered at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater.
00:20:32
Speaker
There will be porta potties in that packet pickup area.
00:20:35
Speaker
There'll be porta potties adjacent to the start line.
00:20:38
Speaker
Another reason to get there.
00:20:42
Speaker
I think my only comment would be, and this is an affirmation of what you guys do at the classic is that some races I've been to, I go to, it feels like I'm an outsider at, at some communities events.
00:20:54
Speaker
You know what I mean?
00:20:54
Speaker
Like it's like you,
00:20:55
Speaker
Everybody knows everybody, which is a good thing.
00:20:58
Speaker
But like as an outsider, you don't feel like really like you belong there kind of a thing.
00:21:02
Speaker
But the classic I feel like is different in that way.
00:21:05
Speaker
And that I feel like everybody feels in that like shoot, you know, like the just kind of the where the road starts or whatever.
00:21:12
Speaker
The photographer makes you feel welcome both years.
00:21:15
Speaker
Like we, you know, we get our pick, like they come up and ask us, would you like a picture?
00:21:19
Speaker
That feels really good all the way throughout the course.
00:21:21
Speaker
So I would say that's just an affirmation.
00:21:23
Speaker
And one of the reasons I think we signed up for this race for the third time and the course was the same the first two times.
00:21:28
Speaker
And I don't even care if the course isn't changing this year because we love the atmosphere of this event.
00:21:32
Speaker
So that I think would be the only thing I would say to you is that we love it when, and you already do this, but we love it when a race director or organization, and it's why we do run Disney, to be honest with you, is because you feel included, whatever
Race Day Preparation Advice
00:21:47
Speaker
And I think that you guys do that with these races as well.
00:21:50
Speaker
Well, thanks for saying that.
00:21:52
Speaker
You know, honestly, that is attributed to the fact that this race is a 45-year-old race, and this has become a community staple, literally a classic in our region.
00:22:05
Speaker
It really is a running race.
00:22:08
Speaker
Mecca of sorts and a great accessible place for people to start and develop in their running.
00:22:16
Speaker
And you can see it.
00:22:17
Speaker
You show up to the classic and you're going to see literally every age.
00:22:20
Speaker
You're going to see very young youth development teams and youth running with their families.
00:22:27
Speaker
You're going to see people of every age, every pace walking and running.
00:22:32
Speaker
So, yeah, thanks for saying that.
00:22:35
Speaker
As a race director, what's something, and this is my last question, unless you have anything, Erica, is what do you wish the average or normal everyday runner that signs up for a race and they show up right at 5 a.m.
00:22:44
Speaker
or whatever time the race starts, they show up and everything just seems to be done and ready.
00:22:47
Speaker
What do you wish the average runner knew that if you could look them in the eye, what would you tell them?
00:22:52
Speaker
Two primary things.
00:22:55
Speaker
Number one, our races, the Peachtree City Running Club, the Rotary Peachtree City Half Marathon and 5K, these are completely volunteer facilitated.
00:23:06
Speaker
And most races at any variety of distance,
00:23:11
Speaker
is volunteer facilitated.
00:23:13
Speaker
Now you, you may have very, very big races who have a paid race director, but the only people we pay are our vendors who are like doing our timing and stuff.
00:23:24
Speaker
So just want everybody to know if you are new to racing, um, or just to remember, if you are not new to racing, um,
00:23:34
Speaker
And these folks are out here.
00:23:35
Speaker
We work really, really hard to invite people to be a part of the race as volunteers.
00:23:42
Speaker
We rely on those volunteers.
00:23:44
Speaker
And again, anything we raise above our minimal expenses, we're giving back into the community.
00:23:50
Speaker
So these are charitable events that are fueled by volunteers.
00:23:54
Speaker
So love those volunteers.
00:23:56
Speaker
Be kind and gracious.
00:23:58
Speaker
They're doing their very best and they're there to serve you.
00:24:01
Speaker
The other thing I would say is really pay attention to what the details that are on the race website and or the communication that you get as a runner.
00:24:11
Speaker
So in your in your running confirmation, once you've registered or any subsequent emails that come to you from the race or the race director.
00:24:20
Speaker
and the information on the race website is there to help you.
00:24:23
Speaker
And what's especially helpful is paying attention to parking and to road closures.
00:24:29
Speaker
So if you're new to racing or attending a race, you want to get there early.
00:24:36
Speaker
you may have to transition from the parking area by walking or taking a shuttle.
00:24:40
Speaker
You may need to pick up your race bib or your race packet if you didn't do it the night before.
00:24:45
Speaker
And I highly encourage you to do that.
00:24:47
Speaker
Doing the race expo or doing the packet pickup on the night before the race is the best way to do it.
00:24:54
Speaker
So you're fully prepared.
00:24:55
Speaker
You've got all your bib put on your shirt.
00:24:57
Speaker
You're ready to go.
00:24:59
Speaker
So all you got to do is show up and warm up.
00:25:01
Speaker
Pay close attention to road closures because you can find yourself getting behind really fast.
00:25:07
Speaker
There's nothing more stressful than the only thing more stressful than showing up to a race start line late is trying to show up to your airplane flight late.
Run Disney Race Experiences
00:25:18
Speaker
So come early and pay close attention to those informational details.
00:25:24
Speaker
We're super excited about this year's event.
00:25:25
Speaker
Have you ever done a run Disney, by the way?
00:25:30
Speaker
Maybe the first marathon I do, it needs to be a run Disney.
00:25:34
Speaker
Look, we're big fans.
00:25:35
Speaker
So the one you guys are doing is, what are you guys running?
00:25:38
Speaker
Is that January 11th?
00:25:41
Speaker
That's exactly right.
00:25:43
Speaker
What else does Disney offer in the way of, of half or
00:25:48
Speaker
So there's, Walt Disney World has four weekends a year.
00:25:52
Speaker
So there's like the first weekend in November, the January one we're doing.
00:25:57
Speaker
The last weekend in February is the princess weekend.
00:26:00
Speaker
So we get all dressed up in pink and purple and do that weekend.
00:26:03
Speaker
And then they do a spring event as well.
00:26:05
Speaker
So there's four weekends a year and they all have a 5K, 10K half.
00:26:09
Speaker
And obviously the marathon weekend has that.
00:26:11
Speaker
So yeah, we're big fans of that for sure.
00:26:15
Speaker
We've had members of our club and this is one of the cool things when you're connected to the club and you, you start to build those relationships then informally, you know, not club sponsored, but informally we'll, we'll have people just put together groups and go to races out of state.
00:26:30
Speaker
And I know that there have been groups that have gone down and done like, like literally we'll have people that'll do every distance on that weekend.
00:26:37
Speaker
And I guess there's special medals for that.
00:26:41
Speaker
That is some serious challenges.
00:26:45
Speaker
Well, thanks again for being on the podcast.
00:26:47
Speaker
I want to honor your time.
00:26:48
Speaker
For anyone that's interested in either the Classic or just the Petru City Running Club, if they're from this area, how do we find you guys?
Connecting with the Running Community
00:26:57
Speaker
Well, our website is ptcrc.com, peachtreescityrunningclub.com.
00:27:03
Speaker
You can register for the Classic through a link there.
00:27:05
Speaker
You can become a member through a link there as well.
00:27:08
Speaker
We're on Facebook as Peachtree City Running Club and on Instagram as ptcrunningclub.
00:27:15
Speaker
So come check us out.
00:27:16
Speaker
We try to post about group runs and other things we do.
00:27:20
Speaker
You'll find a group run calendar and a calendar with our meeting dates as well on our website at ptcrc.com.
00:27:32
Speaker
That was a super fun conversation.
00:27:34
Speaker
I enjoyed getting to learn a little bit more about being a part of a run club.
00:27:37
Speaker
And obviously I'm excited for the classic.
00:27:39
Speaker
It's going to be good.
00:27:40
Speaker
So let's move on to today's Disney related topic, run Disney related topic.
00:27:45
Speaker
And that is everything that's included in your race registration, which is a premium thing.
00:27:52
Speaker
So real quick, if you are going to do a run Disney race, I pulled the prices for this year's marathon weekend, the multiple races, just so you kind of have an idea.
00:28:01
Speaker
Of what, what this premium price is.
00:28:05
Speaker
Here's what I would say to preface this.
00:28:07
Speaker
You get the experience of running at Run Disney.
00:28:09
Speaker
That's worth the cost right there.
00:28:12
Speaker
Okay, let me just say that.
00:28:13
Speaker
But we're gonna talk about the tangible things you get.
00:28:16
Speaker
So just so you know, this year, the 5K at Marathon Weekend's $120.
00:28:23
Speaker
By the way, these are all sold out.
00:28:24
Speaker
So I'm not telling you this to go sign up.
00:28:26
Speaker
I'm just giving you context.
00:28:28
Speaker
The full, a whopping $2 more than the half.
00:28:33
Speaker
So really that's the best value on the whole list is for an extra $2, you can run 13.1 more miles if you want.
00:28:40
Speaker
The goofy challenge, which is the half and the full together.
00:28:42
Speaker
That challenge was $473.
00:28:44
Speaker
And the big one, the dopey challenge.
00:28:48
Speaker
You want to do all four races and walk away with six medals, six participant shirts and wake up at 2 a.m.
00:28:55
Speaker
for four days straight.
00:28:59
Speaker
Doesn't that sound appealing?
00:29:02
Speaker
That ladies and gentlemen is why the Dopey Challenge is not on our list of things that we care to do in this lifetime.
00:29:12
Speaker
You don't think so.
Run Disney Registration Inclusions
00:29:13
Speaker
So let's knock it out.
00:29:13
Speaker
What do we actually get?
00:29:14
Speaker
So obviously we get the opportunity to run.
00:29:18
Speaker
What else do we get in our race registration?
00:29:21
Speaker
So clearly you're going to get your run Disney bib, which is going to have your name, your number, your timing chip, all the things on there.
00:29:28
Speaker
So you, it's themed to the race or the challenge.
00:29:30
Speaker
You pin it on your shirt and that's how they know who you are.
00:29:33
Speaker
They know that you're supposed to be a part of the race.
00:29:36
Speaker
The participant t-shirts,
00:29:39
Speaker
Uh, it might not be a t-shirt.
00:29:40
Speaker
It might be a long sleeve.
00:29:40
Speaker
So I guess it depends on, uh, if it's a warm season or cold, whatever season race.
00:29:46
Speaker
And so your participant shirts got the theme of your race on it.
00:29:48
Speaker
If you're doing a challenge, whatever challenge you get, you get that shirt as well.
00:29:52
Speaker
So you could walk away.
00:29:53
Speaker
If you're doing a 5k with one shirt, you could do the dopey challenge.
00:29:55
Speaker
You're walking away with six t-shirts.
00:29:59
Speaker
Um, you're going to get your finisher medal, which is super exciting.
00:30:02
Speaker
It's the one of the primary reasons I do this at all.
00:30:06
Speaker
I knew you were going to say that, yeah.
00:30:07
Speaker
Is sometimes I see the medal release or whatever.
00:30:10
Speaker
I'm like, whoop, looks like we're signing up for that one.
00:30:14
Speaker
Yes, I know you do.
00:30:15
Speaker
Also, if you do a challenge, you're going to get your challenge finisher medal, which that's exciting.
00:30:19
Speaker
It's got, you know, like your total accumulated miles.
00:30:24
Speaker
It's awesome to have that on one shiny piece of medal that you can wear around your neck.
00:30:29
Speaker
I usually hang them like, you know,
00:30:32
Speaker
10k half challenge and i put them all three and i hang them together yeah and it looks like i don't know it looks shiny shiny i like it um so with a little bit of an asterisks asterisk asterisk how do you say that asterisk asterisk
00:30:50
Speaker
Let's move on, shall we?
00:30:52
Speaker
With a little bit of a caveat, race photos.
00:30:56
Speaker
So what I mean, your race photos are included, but sort of, and we're going to cover that in a little bit more detail, but just so you know, they will take your photo.
00:31:06
Speaker
You also get certified timing results.
00:31:08
Speaker
So this is a USATF, all of the Disney races are, USATF certified results, which basically means if you want to take your results from a run Disney race, take them to a
00:31:18
Speaker
Boston or New York or Chicago or any other one that requires a proof of time, you get those certified results from a Disney race.
00:31:25
Speaker
So it's not just fun and magical.
00:31:28
Speaker
It's actually a legit course.
00:31:29
Speaker
Measured and all that stuff.
00:31:31
Speaker
There's some less obvious stuff, I think.
00:31:34
Speaker
Those were the obvious ones that's included.
00:31:35
Speaker
What are some of the less obvious stuff?
00:31:37
Speaker
I can start us off.
00:31:38
Speaker
Transportation is included.
00:31:41
Speaker
Sometimes you see on the Facebook groups, people trying to freak out and figure out how do I get to the race?
00:31:46
Speaker
If you're staying on property, they got buses.
00:31:48
Speaker
That gets you from every resort to the expo and every resort to the race.
00:31:57
Speaker
The only thing I would say, sorry, you can't take that run Disney transportation to a theme park and you can't take that run Disney transportation to Disney Springs.
00:32:05
Speaker
So if you're going to stay at a Disney Springs hotel and you're going to walk to Disney Springs to catch a run Disney bus, that doesn't happen.
00:32:14
Speaker
They only go to Disney resorts.
00:32:16
Speaker
So you can't cheat the system that way.
00:32:20
Speaker
Also, you're going to get some on-course hydration and a minimal amount of fuel.
00:32:24
Speaker
So there's going to be water, Gatorade.
00:32:27
Speaker
On the course, in the past, they've done sports beans.
00:32:32
Speaker
Not my favorite either.
00:32:34
Speaker
If you run the marathon, you get a chocolate.
00:32:37
Speaker
You know, the sports beans, though, if you're in a later corral, you get to also get a try to dodge through them.
00:32:42
Speaker
Yeah, they're like scattered all over the floor.
00:32:46
Speaker
You come through and I've gone through where like no one had really come through there yet because I was kind of and it's clear.
00:32:52
Speaker
And then I've also come through where we're like corral E or F or something like that.
00:32:56
Speaker
And it's literally like a Lego minefield of sports means because people opened it and it went and exploded and they didn't know that.
00:33:05
Speaker
And then what are you going to do?
00:33:05
Speaker
Stop with thousands of people around you and pick them up?
00:33:07
Speaker
You better not stop.
00:33:08
Speaker
So it's literally, I don't know how they would clean it up.
00:33:12
Speaker
Like, because there's too many people on the course.
00:33:14
Speaker
But yes, you do get those.
00:33:16
Speaker
When you finish, you get your snack box, which has, we've talked about this in the past.
00:33:20
Speaker
You just got a banana, chips, fake cheese, usually a stoop waffle of some sort.
00:33:27
Speaker
Some kind of candy, usually.
00:33:30
Speaker
Sometimes there's like a granola bar.
00:33:32
Speaker
That's included, yep.
00:33:33
Speaker
Great, if it's hot enough, you get a cooling towel at the very end.
00:33:38
Speaker
It's gotta be hot.
00:33:39
Speaker
And if it's cold enough, you get mylar.
00:33:41
Speaker
Now, this is not your everyday mylar.
00:33:43
Speaker
No, it's Disney mylar.
00:33:46
Speaker
Erica, this might seem dumb,
00:33:49
Speaker
But that Mylar is a big deal.
00:33:51
Speaker
It's got a huge run Disney Mickey on the back.
00:33:53
Speaker
And what happens is if you get it, let's say you run the 5K and you get it on the first day and then you come back and you have the 10K the next day, people that will have had it after the race on the 5K will wear it to the 10K.
00:34:06
Speaker
Or to the half or whatever because it's cold.
00:34:08
Speaker
Anyway, you're like, oh,
00:34:09
Speaker
Well, how did they get that?
00:34:12
Speaker
You know, because we've got like our cheap one from Amazon.
00:34:15
Speaker
So now I have one sitting in my closet.
00:34:18
Speaker
You bring them home.
00:34:19
Speaker
I bring them home.
00:34:20
Speaker
So I'll take it to the marathon this week or this week, this year.
00:34:24
Speaker
So I have a run Disney Mylar.
00:34:28
Speaker
But also that's weather dependent.
00:34:32
Speaker
What else do we get?
00:34:33
Speaker
If you run the marathon, you get ears.
00:34:35
Speaker
So if you are watching this video right there behind me, it's hard to point in the opposite direction.
00:34:40
Speaker
There's marathon ears.
00:34:41
Speaker
And then also I can't point that way.
00:34:45
Speaker
There, there's marathon ears.
00:34:47
Speaker
They're the Mickey ears, the little cap that you would get in the park that you would buy.
00:34:51
Speaker
That's like a five-year-old.
00:34:55
Speaker
But they get it and it says marathon.
00:34:57
Speaker
It's got the theme on it.
00:34:58
Speaker
What do some people do?
00:34:59
Speaker
We've never done it but some people take them you know what I'm saying?
00:35:04
Speaker
oh well like get them embroidered oh yes yeah with like the year right or something i don't know what they get or their time maybe whatever they want to put on yeah we have done ears you you had ears done for me when we did the our perfect season or whatever yeah but some people take these commemorative ones they get for free yeah or part of their their registration they get them embroidered as well that's pretty cool
00:35:26
Speaker
If it's an anniversary year, and when I say anniversary year, you know, like 10 years of princess or 15 years of the goofy challenge or whatever, then you get a little, it's not significant, a little gift.
00:35:39
Speaker
And are you pointing at another thing?
00:35:44
Speaker
No, that's, what is that?
00:35:45
Speaker
That's ratatouille.
00:35:46
Speaker
So that's a wine and dine.
00:35:47
Speaker
I think that was 15 years of wine and dine.
Post-Race Celebrations
00:35:50
Speaker
That was a luggage tag.
00:35:51
Speaker
We have a goofy luggage tag because we did an anniversary year for that.
00:35:54
Speaker
There's a princess print that we got one year.
00:35:59
Speaker
It was like a, what is that?
00:36:01
Speaker
Like a 12 by 14 or whatever.
00:36:04
Speaker
I don't know whatever size that is.
00:36:05
Speaker
It was a cool print because it was an anniversary year.
00:36:09
Speaker
And so we've surprisingly done three anniversary years.
00:36:12
Speaker
If you're staying on property, depending on your resort, when you get back, you're going to get buttons, snacks, maybe like a welcome back party where people are cheering for you after running.
00:36:23
Speaker
Best resort for that?
00:36:26
Speaker
They're going to celebrate you with like bubble machines and noisemakers and all kinds of things.
00:36:34
Speaker
So you're not paying the deluxe premium pricing or whatever to stay there.
00:36:38
Speaker
So your bedding is not as nice and you don't have all these fancy restaurants and all that stuff, but you have the post-race party.
00:36:45
Speaker
It is definitely good.
00:36:46
Speaker
We have some buttons and whatever they, you know, they wrote like the challenge name on or whatever, and you did it and whatever.
00:36:51
Speaker
We got those when we were there.
00:36:53
Speaker
You do get the opportunity to give Disney more money.
00:36:56
Speaker
That's so nice of them.
00:36:59
Speaker
And you cannot pre-order merchandise.
00:37:02
Speaker
Pre-order meaning like, you know,
00:37:05
Speaker
t-shirt shirts or uh the water bottles we like to get or whatever you can pre-order them but only if you're registered and you're signed into your account right and so everyone else has to buy it at the uh the expo which you don't have to be registered for yeah to go to the expo right interesting but if you want to pre-order something you have to be registered
00:37:25
Speaker
So isn't that nice of them that they let us spend more money?
00:37:28
Speaker
And then my favorite thing.
00:37:30
Speaker
Depending on the race, the opportunity to run down Main Street and backstage.
00:37:37
Speaker
There's something really magical about running down Main Street.
00:37:40
Speaker
Everyone's cheering you on, running through the castle.
00:37:43
Speaker
Why is it better than just walking down Main Street on a Friday night?
00:37:47
Speaker
Well, for me, I'm like doing something really hard, like accomplishing a big goal at one of my favorite places.
00:37:56
Speaker
And the vibe is just crazy.
00:37:58
Speaker
Like you come down through there and there's hundreds or thousands, I don't know.
00:38:02
Speaker
Yeah, thousands of people.
00:38:03
Speaker
Of people cheering for you and they don't know you.
00:38:05
Speaker
And you're like, thank you, thank you, thank you.
00:38:07
Speaker
And you're all like, you know.
00:38:10
Speaker
Oh yeah, it's so good.
00:38:11
Speaker
Would you rather run down Main Street
00:38:15
Speaker
or get a finisher medal if you could only have one.
00:38:17
Speaker
At this point, I would run down Main Street.
00:38:20
Speaker
You'd take those 12 seconds or however long it takes you.
00:38:25
Speaker
You'd rather have that than a finisher medal hanging on your wall.
00:38:28
Speaker
Give me that medal.
00:38:30
Speaker
Give me that medal.
00:38:31
Speaker
The backstage is awesome though.
00:38:34
Speaker
I love running backstage.
00:38:35
Speaker
There are some spots where it's clearly where they might handle some of the waste.
00:38:41
Speaker
Yeah, not quite as magical.
00:38:42
Speaker
Or there's some service trucks and you're like, hmm.
00:38:46
Speaker
This just looks like, you know, under an arena or something.
00:38:50
Speaker
But it's still really cool.
00:38:51
Speaker
Especially when you see like the parade floats.
00:38:53
Speaker
Yeah, the floats all parked and- Or the animals like holding areas over behind backstage of Animal Kingdom.
00:38:59
Speaker
Yeah, that's fun too.
00:39:00
Speaker
That's for a marathon.
00:39:04
Speaker
So there are some things that are not included.
00:39:06
Speaker
That I only put two on the list unless you have more, but I put two things on the list.
00:39:10
Speaker
These are things that I think I've seen people think are included.
00:39:16
Speaker
And common enough that I've seen enough people on the Facebook groups and whatever ask that I thought it'd be worth just clarifying.
00:39:22
Speaker
These two things are not part of the money you pay.
00:39:26
Speaker
Or the registration fee.
00:39:27
Speaker
What's the first one?
00:39:28
Speaker
So the first one, you are not getting a park entry.
00:39:31
Speaker
You are not getting a free ticket to the park for after you run.
00:39:35
Speaker
The only caveat to this is the wine and dine after party.
00:39:39
Speaker
So you're not, just because you ran through the Magic Kingdom earlier that day does not mean that, oh, well now I can go to the Magic Kingdom later.
00:39:46
Speaker
Your race bib doesn't get you in.
00:39:47
Speaker
I mean, you can, but you have to pay for it.
00:39:48
Speaker
You're paying normal.
00:39:50
Speaker
You don't take your race bib and they're like, oh, well you ran a rare wear your medal.
00:39:53
Speaker
Like, oh, well please write this way.
00:39:54
Speaker
That's not happening.
00:39:56
Speaker
The Wine and Dine After Party, you're right.
00:39:57
Speaker
It's a three-hour, I think, event, 10 p.m.
00:40:01
Speaker
or something like that, after the park's already closed.
00:40:04
Speaker
And they do send you a ticket for that.
00:40:06
Speaker
It's for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon or Challenge participants only.
00:40:11
Speaker
And you can buy additional family member tickets for that if you want them to come with you.
00:40:15
Speaker
But included with your registration, you get three hours in the park for that event.
00:40:19
Speaker
There's another thing, and I said asterisk,
00:40:22
Speaker
Did I say it right that time?
00:40:23
Speaker
Earlier I said that.
00:40:26
Speaker
They will take your photo for free.
00:40:27
Speaker
If you want to download that photo or print that photo or whatever, you can make that decision to do so by the memory maker or by individual photos or whatever.
00:40:37
Speaker
So that's not included.
00:40:39
Speaker
You can see the photos in the app or on the website.
00:40:41
Speaker
It just has a big watermark on it.
00:40:44
Speaker
And you can decide, wow, I did not look good in any of those photos.
00:40:47
Speaker
I'm not wasting the money, which I guess is a good thing.
00:40:51
Speaker
Or you're like, oh my gosh, look at that.
00:40:53
Speaker
Me and the castle and whatever.
00:40:54
Speaker
Like, that's perfect.
00:40:55
Speaker
I want to buy that photo or I want to buy all of them.
00:40:58
Speaker
So downloading or printing your photos is not included.
00:41:02
Speaker
That was the list.
00:41:05
Speaker
Any thoughts on things I missed or anything like that?
00:41:08
Speaker
No, I think what you said in the beginning, just that the experience of running around Disney, I mean, that's really, that's really what you're paying for.
00:41:16
Speaker
If you told me that I didn't get a participant shirt, right.
00:41:20
Speaker
Or you told, I don't know about the medal.
00:41:22
Speaker
That would be a hard one.
00:41:23
Speaker
But if you told me I didn't get a participant shirt and, or I didn't get free buttons at my hotel, or I didn't get snacks on the course and I had to bring my own.
00:41:31
Speaker
If you told me any of that, I'd still do the, because it's so much fun.
00:41:37
Speaker
The finisher metal is a tough one though, for me.
00:41:41
Speaker
And your main street's your favorite, but you do races that don't run down main street.
00:41:45
Speaker
It's not quite as special though.
Marathon Training Updates
00:41:48
Speaker
I'm good on that, on that topic.
00:41:50
Speaker
That's everything that's included and a few things that aren't.
00:41:53
Speaker
Want to do a quick news update.
00:41:56
Speaker
I don't know why I write news on the notes.
00:42:00
Speaker
Any training update for you?
00:42:02
Speaker
I did 16 miles yesterday.
00:42:05
Speaker
Hopefully you can't hear it on my voice, but I am very tired from that.
00:42:08
Speaker
My run coach, I often throw him under the bus.
00:42:11
Speaker
He had me run four miles today after 16 yesterday.
00:42:16
Speaker
He did tell me I could take it super easy.
00:42:17
Speaker
I think it was like a recovery.
00:42:20
Speaker
So, you know, told me to take it easy and all that stuff.
00:42:23
Speaker
So yesterday I felt strong and great.
00:42:26
Speaker
I did the 16 miles at a great pace that I felt comfortable with.
00:42:29
Speaker
I actually ran with friends for the first 10, which made that really easy.
00:42:33
Speaker
That made that go by really fast.
00:42:36
Speaker
Then at 10 miles, they were done and they went to Starbucks, lucky.
00:42:39
Speaker
And I turned left and did six more miles.
00:42:42
Speaker
And felt strong, felt good.
00:42:45
Speaker
Ate a ton of food yesterday.
00:42:46
Speaker
You know, when I got home, took a nap, just all that.
00:42:49
Speaker
Then this morning I got up to do this four miler and Erica, I was like, oh.
00:42:53
Speaker
oh my gosh, I can't, you know, it was so slow.
00:42:57
Speaker
Um, but I got that 16 miles in.
00:42:59
Speaker
I mean, if you, if you plan to run 26 at some point, you got to run 16.
00:43:04
Speaker
So that's where I'm at in my training.
00:43:06
Speaker
Um, I don't think things went the way you planned yesterday, but you adjusted and you did the right thing.
00:43:12
Speaker
So you want to talk about it at all or you want to like move on and not?
00:43:15
Speaker
Yeah, no, totally.
00:43:16
Speaker
So last weekend I hurt myself at the lake.
00:43:20
Speaker
I've just got like a rib issue going on.
00:43:22
Speaker
It's in a terrible place because, you know, when I'm running, like every step is impacting.
00:43:26
Speaker
So last week on Tuesday, I just, I was like, you know, my normal stubborn self, I'm going to run through, I'm going to push through.
00:43:34
Speaker
I did all 10 sets of my speed hill repeats and like running felt great.
00:43:40
Speaker
Like my legs felt great, but I could tell that by doing that, I like really flared up this rib thing.
00:43:48
Speaker
And so I saw Sarah like during the middle of the week and I did some biking instead of some running.
00:43:55
Speaker
And so I went out yesterday.
00:43:57
Speaker
I was supposed to run for two hours rather.
00:43:59
Speaker
And like the first two miles were like excruciating.
00:44:04
Speaker
And in the past, I would have just continued to run through and ultimately would have sacrificed an entire race season because I would just keep re-injuring the issue.
00:44:16
Speaker
But now I'm at the point now where I'm like,
00:44:18
Speaker
I cannot just be stubborn.
00:44:19
Speaker
Like I have to, you know, it's not worth a whole race season, like potentially just to get a couple of days worth of training in.
00:44:27
Speaker
So I ended up just speed walking instead of running.
00:44:31
Speaker
And so that's, that's a little frustrating, but worth it in the long run.
00:44:36
Speaker
So yeah, so I just speed walked yesterday.
00:44:38
Speaker
But in general with training, I would say that the app that I'm using now, the Dynamic Runner app, that is really helping.
00:44:44
Speaker
When I went to see Sarah on Thursday, she was like, normally you would be really like, you know,
00:44:50
Speaker
well, crying, like when she was working on something, working on my legs.
00:44:55
Speaker
She's, you know, she's like, you'd be just recoiling like in pain or whatever, but she's like, you just in the last few weeks, like your legs have gotten so much stronger.
00:45:02
Speaker
Like you, she was like, you're, you're doing great.
00:45:05
Speaker
So she was like, keep doing that program.
00:45:06
Speaker
So that's when we're really well.
00:45:08
Speaker
And then the other thing I wanted to update people on was I had said a couple of weeks back that I started using the, you can, um,
00:45:14
Speaker
um, gels, those are working so great.
00:45:19
Speaker
There's no like, um, super high and then super crash.
00:45:23
Speaker
Like it's just consistent energy for like 60 to 75 minutes.
00:45:27
Speaker
They don't might upset my stomach at all.
00:45:29
Speaker
So if you are looking to try a new, where do we find that?
00:45:32
Speaker
Is it a, on the feed or Amazon or all of the above?
00:45:37
Speaker
You can get them on Amazon or from there.
00:45:39
Speaker
You let me try one yesterday for my long run.
00:45:44
Speaker
Like, I think anytime you try a new gel or nutrition, you haven't tried the texture yet.
00:45:49
Speaker
So the minute you try a new one, it's always like, whoa, what was that?
00:45:53
Speaker
Not exactly what happened to me yesterday.
00:45:56
Speaker
It wasn't the flavor.
00:45:58
Speaker
It wasn't that my stomach couldn't handle it or anything.
00:46:00
Speaker
Just the texture was different than all the other gels I've ever had.
00:46:03
Speaker
It's a little more liquidy than the- Like the Morton's or a goo or something like that.
00:46:10
Speaker
Anything else on training?
00:46:13
Speaker
We, uh, as we talked about with, um, Evan, we're doing the Peachtree city classic, which is 15 K here in a couple of weeks.
00:46:20
Speaker
That'd be our first race in a long time.
00:46:23
Speaker
Uh, a long distance race.
00:46:24
Speaker
So we did a couple of five K's I think, but this will be our first long distance official race in a long
Conclusion and Listener Engagement
00:46:28
Speaker
So I'm excited about that.
00:46:30
Speaker
