Transcript

Em: Hey guys, I'm Emily.

Katie Higgins: And I'm Katie.

Em: and Welcome back to another episode. This is episode four.

Katie Higgins: Four in the books. Can't believe it. Or...

Em: of

Katie Higgins: Getting started.

Em: We have thoughts pod.

Katie Higgins: Love it. We are coming to y 'all. I think each from our dining rooms.

Em: i' Well, technically, I'm in the studio. This is... Welcome to my sweatshop.

Katie Higgins: Up. Oh! we will definitely need a recap of Sophie Styles, but well, look how pretty the ah sweatshop is.

Em: Yes.

Em: You know, we're a very glamorous sweatshop. I will say that

Katie Higgins: Very good. Very. when When and if OSHA comes to check on this sweatshop, they'll be impressed with the wallpaper as I am. um I also, I'm going to guess is that.

Katie Higgins: um some Is that a William Morris print? of your wallpaper.

Em: Yes. I love William Morris.

Katie Higgins: I...

Em: This is The Strawberry Thief. Big fan.

Katie Higgins: Okay. yeah

Em: Years ago.

Katie Higgins: I've. been learning.

Em: ah Sophie had... My friend Phaedra went to London. brought home yardage from liberty, and... um, of the strawberry thief and my mom made her the sweetest dress. And I've always, it's just a, it's a lovely classic.

Em: print. I love it.

Katie Higgins: Well, okay.

Em: does design

Katie Higgins: I also really like that it is. dark. yeah you know, like it's, um Navy, a Navy base.

Em: Hm?

Katie Higgins: But also there's nothing.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: dark about it. Do you know what I mean? Like.

Em: Yes. There's lots of movement.

Katie Higgins: Cause that's.

Em: It keeps it.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: Um, feeling a little bit lighter. um i

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: Mood wise, maybe.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: Hmm.

Katie Higgins: That's where i get i get um I get nervous with wallpaper is I don't want it to end up being too... moody, but that's also one of the things in my forties now. That I'm saying, you know what?

Katie Higgins: I'm okay with moody as well. Because listen, if anyone is moody right now.

Em: button

Katie Higgins: it's It's me. Um,

Em: He's rough. out there in the hoarding world.

Katie Higgins: It's it is It is rough. um Okay. What are our... So it's not our typical cocktail catch up today.

Em: Is not today. It feels like a very Monday, Tuesday. Like it.

Katie Higgins: Oh, I can see that. Yeah. yeah

Em: Um, so I'm I've maxed out on my coffee for the day. So now I'm having a cup of berries tea with.

Katie Higgins: Oh!

Em: Milk and sugar.

Katie Higgins: Well.

Em: That's all.

Katie Higgins: Okay. Okay. um Also guys, we've never done it this way with us, each of us. And so. you know, there may be some technical difficulties along the way. So y 'all just bear with us.

Em: we're going to figure it out.

Katie Higgins: Yeah. Um, same. I am definitely on my second cup of coffee for the day. Um, in my Ember mug. which

Em: oh you've talked

Katie Higgins: needs.

Em: lives.

Katie Higgins: Yes, I...

Em: It needs a moment, huh?

Katie Higgins: it And the only thing that about it is that it is a one cup of coffee coffee situation if you drink. Coffee as slow as I do. which I.

Em: oh Okay.

Katie Higgins: drink very slow so like by now i'm on a second cup of coffee and it needs to charge but And I don't want to sit it down, but like the coffee was hot. So like.

Em: Right.

Katie Higgins: It'll be fine. And I'll probably drink it faster since I'm sitting here, but, um, But yeah. Okay. So, uh,

Em: Turning my ear. Sorry.

Katie Higgins: Do what?

Em: I'm turning my AC.

Katie Higgins: That's smart. I should probably.

Em: Lower. I am already getting hot.

Katie Higgins: Seriously.

Em: Somebody told me.

Katie Higgins: Seriously.

Em: And it wasn't me.

Katie Higgins: Well. Well... is ah Is that where we should start with um our quick ah with ah with some catching up to do? So the text you sent me this morning. about hormone replacement therapy because oh my god

Em: Okay, if anybody out there is listening. And you know a gynecologist. First of all, not... Super great about getting checkups.

Katie Higgins: Hmm.

Em: i'm I'm actually, I'm great at getting my kids checkups, but my schedule fills up really quickly and I can't plan things.

Katie Higgins: Hi.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: in advance. So I'm mean i'm on the market for a, I guess, gynecologist.

Katie Higgins: Yeah. I understand

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: um And. ah Menopause, perimenopause is hitting me hard. And I think it might be time for me to get on hormones.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: I think.

Katie Higgins: a

Em: Not only would I be a more delightful human. Um. But my my cycle is super unpredictable.

Katie Higgins: Ugh.

Em: Um.

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: It is brutal right now. And. so if anybody has a little recommendation i can deal with the lack of sleep i can deal with the heat

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: There's hacks for that, right? Like you can take it now.

Katie Higgins: Right.

Em: You can dress in natural fibers. like Great. Whatever.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: um I am now eating an aggressive amount of beans because I read that beans are really great for women in perimenopause.

Katie Higgins: Oh, really?

Em: and the

Katie Higgins: I wonder why. Did it say?

Em: i don't know i can't remember but they were like that's the answer beans and sardines um

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Katie Higgins: Oh, well, you do you do love a tin fish.

Em: I do love a tinned fish. I just, I, there's a new recipe for tinned fish.

Katie Higgins: You too.

Em: I want to try and you take this or you're going to hate it. Just...

Katie Higgins: ah Yeah, let's it's just be clear here.

Em: But if Stevie...

Katie Higgins: I will, but I'll listen.

Em: They might love it.

Katie Higgins: My husband will love it. Yeah.

Em: um So you take the tinned sardines out. You coat them in grated Parmesan and then you broil them for 10 minutes and it leaves them like. so crunchy and all of that and I really want to try it.

Em: So.

Katie Higgins: Yes, Steven would love that.

Em: We will see.

Katie Higgins: Maybe as an act of love, I would make those for him one day. Or... I'll have you make them and I'll just put them in the broiler.

Em: I'm going to. week.

Katie Higgins: Yes, there you go.

Em: So. We're good.

Katie Higgins: i I understand when because when you tell me about how how salty they are. I think, oh, I would, I would, oh, which when we talk about New York, I'm going to need to tell you about this drink I had that would have left you.

Katie Higgins: as excited as I was. um but

Em: You get the recipe.

Katie Higgins: I took a photo. Of.

Em: Okay.

Katie Higgins: the the thing. Because. We this it I was basically drinking vodka with blue cheese, except. A fantastic cocktail. fantastic martini, like literally.

Em: That sounds magical.

Katie Higgins: one of the best I've ever had.

Em: wow

Katie Higgins: It was so good. Um, Okay. Well, so I'll tell you. Okay. So the doctor I sent you is who I go to and she is not.

Em: Yep.

Katie Higgins: a gynecologist. She's a like a she's a primary care physician, but I think she primary my mom's been going to her since, but she does my well -woman's. So I'm the opposite. This is terrible. I'm really good about making sure I get to the doctor.

Katie Higgins: most of the time because I have a lot of ailments is mainly why. Um, But I'm really bad about getting my kids there. Which...

Em: and

Katie Higgins: which is also Which is also like. Not exactly true. because my kids are very well taken care of and they.

Em: Right.

Katie Higgins: are They also have a lot of... things that plague them. And so I have a tendency to take them to their therapist and their neurologist or whatever. And then I'm like, oh, the well check.

Katie Higgins: Surely I don't need that, right?

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: so they are both They are all three currently overdue for their well checks, and that is something that I... really do need to get done, but also it means the twins are going to have shots, which means it'll be the worst day of my life. So.

Em: p

Katie Higgins: Because even at 13, they're going to act like toddlers is what um is what they're going to do.

Em: You know, you could take them to go see mom.

Katie Higgins: So.

Em: She worked on my niece with her fear of shots and needles.

Katie Higgins: Huh?

Em: so

Katie Higgins: Oh, we do know I love Nancy.

Em: hand beek energy moment.

Katie Higgins: Oh, interesting.

Em: for the

Katie Higgins: i wonder if the twins would be into that okay I'll have to chat with them about that

Em: Thank you. to have a little chit chat.

Katie Higgins: So. sue Very, very cool. Well, anything else new this, uh, this...

Em: Um... I actually wrote notes on the notes

Katie Higgins: This week that...

Katie Higgins: Look at us getting more and more.

Em: right Look, you guys.

Katie Higgins: i I would have possibly done that, but I thought they had printed and then turned out we had no paper, so I had to reprint them. It was a whole thing. Bye.

Em: um Not a huge ton of email or updates from me, mostly because I really wanted to get into your week. um

Katie Higgins: Oh, okay. Well, we can also skip right to that.

Em: Bye. Let's see. I went to Austin for the weekend. um My whole family was in town.

Katie Higgins: Oh, for the concert!

Em: No. That.

Katie Higgins: That's in LA.

Em: Next weekend.

Katie Higgins: Okay, fantastic.

Em: ah in Beverly Hills, I think. Justin just told me the venue again and I forgot. Again.

Katie Higgins: I have... Only been to Beverly Hills a couple of times, but have you been to Beverly Hills? I'm sure you have.

Em: years ago. I mean, it's been years since I've been out to LA.

Katie Higgins: i I have to say I do love LA when I go for work. You know, the does the fashion district in L la is .A. is a... um

Em: Enjoy your

Katie Higgins: is a is a interesting place, but I love it because of that. um I love, i I just. I just love a human. i i I think I said that last week. I just love a human. I feel like you are the type of person, you just love a human. You you were one of the first humans that really showed me that.

Katie Higgins: um And... I, but what it is, it's fascinating to go from downtown LA. or the fashion district.

Katie Higgins: In l LA, and then you walk into Beverly Hills after a nine -hour drive. on the 101 or whatever that is.

Em: Mmhmm.

Katie Higgins: And when I tell you it smells like rainbows and unicorns? I think it's just because they're so...

Em: there's no other way to explain

Katie Higgins: Mini. flowers that are kept up. on a daily.

Em: Oh.

Katie Higgins: basis that it literally is just this.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: Floral scent. that is fresh and beautiful and hits you in it and like i said coming from the design fashion district where you're right by skid row those are two different smells Two different smells, okay? And... um But man, I love both because the the people watching and the just the humans are so.

Katie Higgins: Fast. vaccinating. And so I've gotten to where I really love LA. Well, I will be so excited for that. I cannot wait.

Em: I just looked it up. we're going This concert is at the Troubadour.

Katie Higgins: Oh.

Em: West Hollywood.

Katie Higgins: Okay. Okay.

Em: uh my sister -in -law was familiar that she grew up in california so she said it was a great venue

Katie Higgins: Oh.

Em: so i still have to go get my outfit no no no uh my brother Nice.

Katie Higgins: Julie? No. oh oh Oh, okay.

Em: Megan.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: Yep.

Katie Higgins: Gotcha. Well, very cool.

Em: Oh.

Katie Higgins: Okay. I can't wait to hear.

Em: Yeah. Yeah, and then Justin just booked us.

Katie Higgins: That's so fun.

Em: a hotel in San Antonio and I'm gonna get it wrong Because the following weekend, we're going to go see Stephen Wilson Jr. And.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: Hello, dees. Question mark.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: unclear on the pronunciation of the town uh but it's this really neat

Katie Higgins: Sure, sure

Em: um venue. and But the hotel. Very just and appropriate. I mean, it's... a nice hotel so yay me But it is the at that hotel bar that Herb Kelleher on a napkin drew the Golden Triangle and created Southwest Airlines.

Katie Higgins: Yes? Yeah, yeah, definitely.

Em: so We're going to go have a cocktail there. and then go

Katie Higgins: o

Em: yeah

Katie Higgins: how fun Oh, that. That's so cool! Cool. And also since like, and like.

Em: how

Katie Higgins: I think. i feel like a lot of Texans have an affinity for Southwest. um but clearly it's very close to y 'all's family because Justin's captain.

Em: Right.

Em: Yes.

Katie Higgins: So I kept hoping.

Em: I'm like, do we have a place? Nope.

Katie Higgins: Wait, what? What?

Em: I want to know, do we get an employee discount?

Katie Higgins: Heck yes, I would think so.

Em: You too?

Katie Higgins: I would think so.

Em: We'll have to get a wild turkey.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: cocktail. That was Herbs. Hmm.

Katie Higgins: Oh.

Em: beverage of choice.

Katie Higgins: his thing. Well, um Perfect segue into my New York trip is that the the the plane we were on flying out of Hobby.

Em: Yep.

Katie Higgins: Um. was we, my, my mom and Julia were quite nervous that it was going to be a very, very old plane because it had the old paint job on it. The old or the old.

Em: oh Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Katie Higgins: Colorway? Well, then on the side of the plane.

Em: You never really get all that.

Katie Higgins: What do they call it?

Em: livery.

Katie Higgins: Let me... Let me turn my sound up. I guess my sound's okay enough. because I'm having trouble hearing and I don't think it's you. I think it's me, like just not being able to hear. um So, but then on the side of it, it said.

Katie Higgins: er herb

Em: Kelleher.

Katie Higgins: Kelleher. And then it was one of the like newest planes. And so they said it's like a like a new I guess they're doing like. special planes. Maybe.

Em: Yes.

Katie Higgins: So, and then it was that.

Em: Yes, so they are famous for having i don't even know i think they've got like 60 different paint jobs like literally paint jobs

Katie Higgins: Oh.

Em: that they use.

Katie Higgins: Oh.

Em: So.

Katie Higgins: Well, how fun. How fun! Yeah. Turned out being a very nice plane and a nice nice flight to to New York. So, yes. um

Em: Well. Let's talk about New York.

Katie Higgins: Okay, let's talk about New York.

Em: I've been doing... all week

Katie Higgins: What?

Em: I have been dying.

Katie Higgins: This...

Em: all week.

Katie Higgins: Oh, okay. Okay, so. So a little ah recap because... um because Emily knows obviously the backstory of electric kittens, but I feel like this is maybe the first time I'm talking about this, like publicly.

Katie Higgins: Um, I don't think I've ever, other than like an Instagram post on our electric kittens account.

Em: talk about it last week

Katie Higgins: Um, On here? I don't know, did we? I don't think we did. Maybe we did or didn't.

Em: ah there eat

Katie Higgins: About Steven?

Em: And the name? Did we talk about?

Katie Higgins: Oh! Oh goodness.

Em: I don't know.

Katie Higgins: I should...

Em: Fuck. So much on recording days. I don't know.

Katie Higgins: We do.

Em: If it's during...

Katie Higgins: What did we?

Em: reporting or not. Well, tell us.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: well the people

Katie Higgins: Well, then i will give I will give a quick synopsis of the backstory. So about a year ago. with the boutique. um There's a lot of conversation in the boutique world when you own your own store about you know private labeling your products that you buy from other brands or... um you know some going the manufacturing route and starting their own brands. And I knew for me that...

Katie Higgins: Private labeling was not going to be. the right fit for me because I really love the brands that I buy. And I've made that a part of my boutique story is.

Katie Higgins: you know, having people get to know Taylor Elliott of Taylor Elliott Designs or um you've got to hear about queen of sparkles it's this incredible woman named jamie that used to be a an engineer out of baton rouge you know so i would never um i'm not the type that would even with my even with some of my brands that are not as well known i love telling people Like this is Chap and Graham. It's 100 % cotton. She's out of.

Katie Higgins: Oklahoma. um Or this, I was wearing a ah some overalls from a brand called easel yesterday and Uh, everyone.

Katie Higgins: everyone that shopped with me over the last 10 years, that has bought these overalls if I say oh my gosh new color in easel overalls they know so like I...

Katie Higgins: i've made Like I said, I've made brands part of my boutique story, part of my boutique brand. And so private labeling wasn't for me. But I started thinking, huh. is designing what's something I'd ever want to do.

Katie Higgins: And... I just have let that be in the back of my mind for a while now, more than a year. That's been in the back of my mind for like. probably five years um just what i want to design and if i did design what would i do and also What would the point of it be?

Katie Higgins: because There are already so many fantastic designers out there. And I don't want to just go and saturate the market with. Something else like that didn't ever feel.

Katie Higgins: right for me. um It was only going to be like. If I had a true idea, if I had a true. moment, would I want to embark on that?

Katie Higgins: So over the years, it's just in the back of my head, you know, and I'm always kind of thinking, oh, if i'm okay, this, you know, little like little things. And about a year ago is where the name came from. because I had started thinking, especially with Julia being my right hand and like on my team now, someone I can trust. fully um who's young and um wants to Do all these things. I mean honestly in New York is a big part uh

Katie Higgins: of her influence because she loves it so much. And so. It. just it. I... And also, you know, sometimes you need a 20 something in your life.

Katie Higgins: to Just. You know remind you of what it's like to be 20 So. I... Just love that. And then also I am extremely grateful that I have a mom who's nearly 70 who, um oh, she'll hate me for saying that. She's nearly 69, who is. is, was, and always has been, will be my biggest cheerleader. And ah she also has a lot of Southwest points is what I'm going to tell you. And she um loves a trip.

Katie Higgins: So... About a year ago, my husband is actually who... came up with the name electric kittens um you know with the boutique it's ek the boutique and um I was looking for, you know, there's just been some changes and needed to like, what does ENK stand for in a way that.

Katie Higgins: isn't me anymore. like It's not just about me.

Em: yeah

Katie Higgins: um that like What's something that is bigger and can be scalable, go reach further than just, hi, I'm Katie, you know, like. I wanted it to. And so.

Katie Higgins: prayed a lot about that and it really felt like the lord lord put on my heart energy and kindness which was something that was have been two quotes and values that I've really um pushed the brand towards, pushed EK, the boutique, towards over the last few years. And so um where the energy share, the kindness really became.

Katie Higgins: What? ecout is all about. And Stephen, I was telling him about it and he goes, well, you should have called it electric kittens. And I went. Wait, what? And he was like, yeah, I just think electric kittens would have been ah fantastic. And I was like, no, shut up. Like, that's amazing.

Katie Higgins: So... um I go to Julia and I was like, hey. If and when we ever start our brand, it's going to be called Electric Kittens. And she's like, oh, God. And I tell her the story about Steven. This was about a year ago. like maybe or or maybe it was longer it was when chat gbt was first like really

Katie Higgins: he's He's very much in the AI world because he uses it so much at work and has been doing it for years and years. But it was the first, like when ChatGPT was getting like more mainstream and he... made this quick image that was so fully AI. It was fantastic. It was these two cats drinking martinis and it was very Lisa Frank.

Katie Higgins: And I was like, well, that's it. Forever and ever, amen, okay? And. So then that, that was about a year ago. We've made a couple of t -shirts. my very very good friend um summer who owns summer teas printed them for me and um she's also like

Katie Higgins: Just incredible about like. hey idea let's go let's do it come on how do we make it happen and so um started with just a couple of t -shirts and people have really loved the t -shirts which is also a full circle moment because that's how the boutique started was with t -shirts so kind of kind of cool And.

Katie Higgins: But then... In my free time. that I have so much of. But when I needed to just be creative, I found myself. with my iPad. Just.

Katie Higgins: you know like drawing and having fun and um you know, getting getting creative. And it led to... A point. Where I was like, wait a minute.

Katie Higgins: Hey, honey, can you please not make that noise? Thank you. I've got ah two kids home today. One is not feeling well and one is doesn't have AC at his school. So two kids home today. So hopefully.

Katie Higgins: Hopefully they'll be quiet. and um after that. So. Electric Kittens over the past year has just very much developed as something that made me happy.

Katie Higgins: in my own private space in my own private life and then This summer, I feel like I turned 40 in March, you turned 40 just in June, and you and I have had so many conversations over the year about...

Katie Higgins: who we are now and what What is that? What makes us happy anymore? Like, what do we even? you know, you're in semi -retirement, I'm... yeah in whatever I'm in, but we're both in these life stages of like, wait, what?

Katie Higgins: what do we What do we love?

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: What makes us happy? Who who are we? and i really And then also doing EMDR therapy and working with Nancy on my on doing energy work.

Katie Higgins: Really has. narrowed down that what I care about. is Peace in my life. for my family and the seven people I love, which is like, I. I've been saying that lately. but It's way more than seven, but I've just.

Katie Higgins: You know, there's a thing that floats around Instagram that always says when people. you when When people show you who they are, believe them.

Em: Oh, that's.

Katie Higgins: And, you know.

Em: My favorite thing to say to me.

Katie Higgins: That's whose?

Em: Moms.

Katie Higgins: Of course it is. and And I think that's something that I just couldn't. really learn until now. um because there's been... You know, i' just life. and i have And I have three kids now that are teenagers. And my husband has had... you know, different.

Katie Higgins: people he works with and so you just After 40 years, you you go, oh, I've known enough people now. That I can, yeah, you're right. You're right. anyway, so I, all of this...

Katie Higgins: um has helped me see that. I miss being creative. I miss. Um, being ah intentional.

Katie Higgins: I miss... having peace and simplicity in my life. um And that. And joy has been a huge like. factor of my life, like something that I've i've held on to really intensely over the past seven -ish years.

Katie Higgins: And. I think that. that grasping onto the my joy has then helped me to then clarify those next things like Peace brings me joy. Simplicity. I'm a maximalist, but simplicity and it brings me joy.

Katie Higgins: Um, like and I mean simplicity in my like in my chaos simplicity in my brain you know

Em: Totally.

Katie Higgins: only

Em: i

Katie Higgins: doing what serves me and not in a Not in a... um oh, i'm and I'm going to be super selfish and only do what serves me. Not that. And I think that that is something that gets mistaken.

Katie Higgins: Win.

Em: Yes.

Katie Higgins: People hear women saying this. it's it's not that I'm suddenly going to be this selfish person. I'm still who I am. But there is now a limit. To who and what?

Katie Higgins: gets that. Gets that that.

Em: Yes.

Katie Higgins: that access in, um, So through all of that, and oh, well, so. Then. um I really was kind of talking, talking to friends of mine that own brands about. some changes I was kind of thinking about making.

Katie Higgins: And um one of them specifically is has been has owned her own brand for quite a long time. And she really said some things to me that were like. Oh, Katie, like you.

Katie Higgins: I'm just... not not telling me what to do, but she was just giving her own experience. And I was like, oh, okay, I think this is where I'm headed. and So I was on the phone with my mom. A few weeks ago, and I was saying, hey, mom, I think.

Katie Higgins: I think. I think this is kinda what I'm looking at. And she said, well. The only way for us to know is to... Go find out the actual information, the actual numbers, the actual answers, the actual logistics. And I said, okay, well, there's a there's a sourcing show. But it's in August it's in august and February in Vegas. So we'll just wait till February. Well,

Katie Higgins: Then I thought, well, let me just Google it real quick. Oh! Well. A show was also, a sourcing show was also being held in New York, September 8th through the 9th through the 11th. So I called up my mom and I said, hey.

Katie Higgins: You want to go to New York? Like in two weeks. And she was like, ah! Not enough points for that. Let's go! Um, So ah thanks to Southwest Points and my... Incredible mother. ah She, Julia, and I took off for New York and had what I'm going to tell you is the most character building hotel experience.

Katie Higgins: Um, that Julia has definitely ever had.

Em: Cool.

Katie Higgins: And I'm not sure she's ever going to let me forget it. Um, And we we just really had a fantastic time together. And my mom and Julia, they they butt heads a little bit, but in a hysterical way. And we just, ah you know, it was a quick trip. And and also there was no.

Katie Higgins: pressure. We were going. To just. Learn. And.

Em: Yes. Oratory.

Katie Higgins: Exploratory and even still when Julia made the post on electric kittens the the Instagram it was like We're having some samples made. And we're going to take you along for this ride.

Katie Higgins: I may never actually produce anything. I may just have this silly brand called Electric Kittens and I'll make a sticker or two, you know, or... make a shirt or two. But, and that's what I love is there's zero pressure because it was like, no, if we go and we don't find a manufacturer.

Katie Higgins: Hey, then. We don't. And maybe we'll try again in February. see if because Because the Vegas show is is bigger than the New York show. But... It was so...

Katie Higgins: wonderful to have conversations and also to have conversations that then reminded myself because I think Not I think, I know. I am my biggest critic. um i've Told I told my counselor um a couple of maybe a week or maybe might be a month or two ago. um I'm doing EMDR, so lots of breakthrough happens in there.

Katie Higgins: That is super painful and... I said,

Katie Higgins: I said, and this is, and I'm not looking for accolades here. So like, don't, and and which I love that. I know you're not, you will know that I'm not looking for accolades when I say this.

Em: Won't get them from me.

Katie Higgins: Yeah, exactly. No, I love that because i because it it's not what I want. i I... I don't, I've had a lot of um I've had a lot of failures.

Katie Higgins: over the last 10 years. And... I'm really okay with that. It's which is Like, I think sometimes people don't believe me when I say that, but I really am okay with that. But what I kind of got to this...

Katie Higgins: Crux of... if that's the right word, was Ooh, I don't see myself. as a failure. But I don't see myself as a success either.

Katie Higgins: I see myself myself as someone who has survived a lot of failures. And that really helped me get to this like root of where I needed to work on myself. Like.

Katie Higgins: finally being able to uh, See. where where am i Where is the tension with myself that I'm not able to forgive, that I'm not able to move past? and so So this trip talking to manufacturers.

Katie Higgins: And it was almost like an out of body experience to watch myself. have an informed conversation and to not get ahead of myself.

Katie Higgins: to not jump. when I got excited and say well let's produce 50 samples. Because old me would have done that. Old me would have gone, oh, I'm vibing with you.

Katie Higgins: Let's let's go Let's go. And... Me now went. Hey, I'm vibing with you. This feels so good. I have one...

Katie Higgins: pair of pants that I really want to make first. So let's just start there. One sample. And it was like. Who is this girl?

Katie Higgins: Who the hell is this girl? And so Then... and also the boutique was there so i got to see see people that i love and that was super fun um And then it was also, but ah well, because this this first day was so simple.

Katie Higgins: So simple, but not so simple because it was easy. It it was also making me realize it was simple because I've. I've done this for 10 years now. I do know my way around the industry.

Katie Higgins: And. because I'm also not trying to launch some. Giant brand. i'm going so slow, so basic, so simple. Um, And it's just something that.

Katie Higgins: pours into me. and And again, not in a selfish way, but pours into me so that I'm not. Burnt out. by every limb that I have, you know? um And...

Katie Higgins: And then I also, Ashley Alderson, who's the CEO of the Boutique Hub, I saw her, she posted this thing the other day. She said, I don't think burnout is from. And i think I think you'll resonate with this a lot, Emily. She said,

Katie Higgins: I don't think burnout is from being super busy. I think. Burnout comes from. having to make all the decisions, all the time.

Em: Absolutely.

Katie Higgins: Absolutely. I mean,

Em: Vision fatigue is a serious thing.

Katie Higgins: With every...

Katie Higgins: Yes!

Em: And I think women. are more acutely affected by it. Because.

Katie Higgins: I do too. I do too

Em: Because we have all of the household decisions too. right? What kind of toilet paper should we get? What kind of? you know What should I make for dinner? What does everybody need in their lunches? All of those things.

Em: On top of... a functioning human adult.

Katie Higgins: Yes. Yeah.

Em: Those decisions, right?

Katie Higgins: Yes. Yes. I agree. I agree. um

Em: So. I think that that is very spot on.

Katie Higgins: ah Yes, I do too. It resonated with me so much. And so then it was like, Because I wasn't putting this pressure on myself or I've also... And or I've also learned.

Katie Higgins: my where my shortcomings are that I get really excited and I go, like balls to the wall. it was And I didn't do that this time. i and i And what was so cool, too, is I didn't even have to force myself to do it. like It really was a bit of an out -of -body experience.

Katie Higgins: watching myself go, oh my God. I kept the guardrails on. I, the boundaries I've been working on in therapy, holy shit, they're working. Um, and then so then we decided then the next day we were going to go be tourists and um My poor mom, she had a...

Katie Higgins: She had knee replacement surgery about six months ago and her knee is doing fantastic, but her hip is giving her um trouble now because of. just the different walking. And so.

Em: of

Katie Higgins: tourist day. was harder on my mom than we expected. So that was that was. the the hard part of it, but um Man, we had fun. and And again, no agenda.

Katie Higgins: There was nowhere we had to be at any time. um we went and saw the 9 -11 memorial, which was so... ah impactful being 25 years later.

Katie Higgins: and ah just did went around and and I... did some shopping, but not. not not really any buying but i do love just i love a retail store i love

Em: Well, and being inspired.

Katie Higgins: Fashion. Oh, and be yes, being inspired.

Em: You know, what are the choices?

Katie Higgins: Um.

Em: Because let's be honest, New York is...

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: going to be on it a little bit faster than

Katie Higgins: Heck, Richmond, Texas. um And it it was, it was, I could have sat. On. the streets. and just people watched All day.

Katie Higgins: All day. I could have done it all day. um And, you know, we had some super yummy food. We had super yummy beverages and we did also um ah Julia is a...

Katie Higgins: quite the Broadway lover. And back in the day. I was quite the actress as well.

Em: Oh.

Katie Higgins: And listen, I won UIL l one act play best actress.

Em: Wow.

Katie Higgins: In. LCISD. or in la at Lamar.

Em: Look at you. Bye, girl.

Katie Higgins: or whatever. um But that that was a long time ago. Uh,

Em: Hey. um Austin High School was up for 11 Tommy Tune Awards for Fiddler on the Roof. See you. in chorus. I'm not saying I was the reason.

Katie Higgins: Um,

Em: bytes.

Katie Higgins: Wait say that again about

Em: would take Come on. I was the reason being on chorus was why we were nominated for 11. Bye. It does take a while.

Katie Higgins: ah would I would venture a guess, Emily Shearer, Emily Wenzel at the time, that it had a lot to do with it. So.

Em: i'm sorry Best mom I ever had.

Katie Higgins: um

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: Listen, listen. um So we went we went and saw Titanic. Which? is written By a guy from Needville.

Katie Higgins: I - Yes! I should probably probably fact check this.

Em: i i I want to now. send it to Justin.

Katie Higgins: I know.

Em: You know this person.

Katie Higgins: I should probably fact check this because, but Lori. ah who is a great friend of ours she went and she's she went for opening week because

Em: Mm hmm.

Katie Higgins: she knows the guy that wrote it and um i now i'm now i'm very Now I'm thinking I...

Em: you

Em: and the

Katie Higgins: What?

Em: Is it in the playbill?

Katie Higgins: Yeah, is it LET ME LOOK, LET ME LOOK. Uh... Okay. This is, that's all about, okay, this. Okay. These are all like, let me find the actual part about the show. Here we go. Titanic.

Katie Higgins: Um, well Okay. Book by... Marla Mendel, Constantine Roussali, and Ty Blue.

Em: a

Katie Higgins: Well, I may need to text Lori here real quick.

Em: We're going to find out from Lauren.

Katie Higgins: Erk! Yes. Okay. But y 'all, Jim Parsons was in it. From...

Em: Sheldon?

Katie Higgins: Sheldon. Sheldon. And. We were like... ah Once again, my mother is a gym and. um Treated us to to some tickets and which also not nearly I thought going to to Broadway was this huge spectacle It was so like.

Katie Higgins: Truly the theater. you know um it was It was great. it What I mean is it wasn't nearly as expensive as I thought it was. us. Like i thought I thought going to Broadway was a like a mortgage payment.

Katie Higgins: It's not. Um, I guess it could be depending on the date.

Em: I guess.

Katie Higgins: but um

Em: Close the show.

Katie Higgins: Right. um But it was at the St. James Theater. and Jim Parsons was in it and he it was hysterical to actually. watch him. And then Julia was extremely excited because Frankie Grande is in it.

Katie Higgins: who is Ariana Grande's brother. Don't worry, I also had to ask. Don't worry, I'll i'll tell you. um he He is Ariana Grande's brother. And he... um had Blah.

Katie Higgins: he's in the I think theater is more his... area um But he was on Big Brother and Julia is a Big Brother.

Em: Okay.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: Fanatic. Which I've never...

Em: that's

Katie Higgins: i' i've I've never known anything about Big Brother and now I can tell you more about it. You know what's up? It's like when you're... children get into something and suddenly you know more about something you never thought you would.

Katie Higgins: Can you hear Daisy barking?

Em: I can. Um,

Katie Higgins: Okay. Hey, Daisy.

Katie Higgins: Let me - Uh. She's got her ah shocking collar on.

Em: my identity is right underneath me.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: It's not alert. Like what? What am I doing?

Katie Higgins: What's what's going on? What's going on? Oh, look, I can just I can carry this with me. Uh. Could you let her out? Do you mind, please? Thank you so much. um she has her barking collar on but it must not be tight enough for it to um Beep out her.

Katie Higgins: ah because when it beeps, she hates it and will stop barking. but so so um he He was also on Big Brother. and and yes, like when your children are into something, you suddenly know all about it.

Katie Higgins: um I know a lot now about Big Brother and about So many Gen Z things. She keeps me she keeps me young. and She really is. I was telling Emily this earlier when we were kind of catching up before we started recording.

Katie Higgins: This... that I... I don't want this to like reduce Julia to what I actually think about her because I i adore her and respect her. But she's like my pocket entertainment.

Katie Higgins: And... I just love that. Like... She cracks me up wherever I go. And she just keeps me entertained and informed. And um You know.

Katie Higgins: Calls me out. on my bullshit and uh and vice versa and vice versa you know she's you need a you also need an elder millennial in your life i think you know um but okay so we went to the stage door

Em: Yes.

Katie Higgins: And...

Em: o you know

Katie Higgins: We got... Frank, I know for sure there's four on here. This is Julia's. It was in my bag. I need to give it to her. we I know for sure we got Frankie Grande. We got. She would know the other people we got. I have a great video of her meeting Frankie Grande, a whole conversation about Big Brother.

Katie Higgins: And. I'm going to tell you Also that I don't, If it wouldn't be me for me being a cringy elder millennial, I don't think we would have had the conversation with Frankie Grande that we had because she was like, no, like be chill, like be be cool.

Katie Higgins: And I was like, no. Like. Hey! It's... My first Broadway - Shall we? When she really wa - wants to talk to you and listen. She got to talk to him. yes And he also, his um husband or partner called.

Katie Higgins: while we were there and on FaceTime, and we also talked to him. So. So all in all, I'm going to say New York was quite the success. We do now know of a different hotel we will be staying at because the hotel situation involved moving hotels at one point.

Katie Higgins: That was how how bad it was. um to a less bad situation. So, you know.

Em: Can you... the Maybe not necessarily the name of the hotel, but is it? part of a family of hotels.

Katie Higgins: It is. It is. It's part of the IHG family of hotels. And I'm not going to say the name of it because I also we we were we were on a budget. OK, this was not a fancy schmancy trip. I'm going to be.

Katie Higgins: Julia and my mom were all in one room. Okay, we were not going. this was This was a work trip. Um, Julia's family now is is also...

Katie Higgins: uh where this

Em: a hotel room.

Katie Higgins: Yes, yes, yes, exactly.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: um

Em: it' not Horrible.

Katie Higgins: It's really not. It's really not. um it You know, but a... a almost 70 -year -old. A 40 year old. and a 23 year old. The 23 year old, I think, had um some shock.

Katie Higgins: of what it's like to be an older. an older woman.

Em: Sure.

Katie Higgins: whether it is the pre -perimenopausal or the post -menopausal. I think there may have been a little bit of shock. And this is, and I'm i'm not going to... The shock came from probably...

Em: You want to see what was behind the curtain. And now.

Katie Higgins: Exit.

Em: might be a little.

Katie Higgins: Exactly. Which also, though... is I think important because No one. I don't think you and I had any clue.

Em: i remember

Katie Higgins: how truly perimenopause was going to be like for us.

Em: I remember very briefly. Mom? Talking about. like menopause because there was a supplement she was taking evening primrose oil

Katie Higgins: oh

Em: And. utter

Katie Higgins: Oh! I.

Em: I was supposed to help with hot flashes or something. And that's it was like such a tiny blip.

Katie Higgins: okay

Em: And I, um because this is what TikTok gives me now is being taught.

Katie Higgins: Yeah, yeah.

Em: perimenopause talk.

Katie Higgins: Yes?

Em: Our generation is just like, no, we need to be funding research about this.

Katie Higgins: Yes?

Em: We need to be doing stuff. this is unacceptable for women. to be enduring this. And the only options are. throw a patch on it, but also have you tried losing weight?

Em: Right? Like, that's it.

Katie Higgins: did you drink more water which i do need to drink more water but like that's not the cure for absolutely everything. It is a lot, but...

Em: ho Our generation has been drinking as much water as our generation has.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: Okay, I am i'm weirded out by this water agenda. I don't know. What?

Katie Higgins: you

Em: lobbyist is pushing this.

Katie Higgins: That That's right

Em: but it's one.

Katie Higgins: you are You are staunchly against. this water epidemic. I didn't know, so... Emily and I have traveled together and...

Katie Higgins: So now, so listen on a normal day, I probably drink no water. i probably The only drop water I drink on a normal day at home is when I take my pills in the morning and at night.

Katie Higgins: When I am traveling, though, I get i get very... um focused on my stomach. working. the way it needs to work.

Em: Sure.

Katie Higgins: instead of derailing all

Em: Vacation concert. is a serious thing.

Katie Higgins: It is. So I drink excessive amounts of water when I travel. to the point where my body's probably like, oh my God, I'm finally hydrated. But. So, but... ah Emily was like, no, I so i don't need this.

Katie Higgins: I don't need this. And I was fascinated. It was so fun to. um Watch to witness. your i do i I do love observing you, Emily. you're just i've always thought you were fascinating and the more i get to know you the more fascinated I get.

Em: but because We are the only country. That is aggressive about our water drinking. like the europeanre for

Katie Higgins: Aggressive is the word.

Em: Or like, why do you have to carry? An entire like. canteen with you everywhere you go.

Katie Higgins: Yes!

Em: You know, you go to a cafe in Europe and they give you a glass this big.

Katie Higgins: to to Drink that down.

Em: Now, I do know. i I will ask for a carafe of water when I'm overseas and I will end up drinking it.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: Um. But no, you're hot. Sure. Get a glass of water. You've been exercising?

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: Sure. You're going to have a meal?

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: Sure. But do we need to be consuming? Gallons of it? I don't know. they They're a little pushy with the water.

Katie Higgins: I think you're onto something. We're going to be the anti. aggressive water.

Em: I think everything in moderation.

Katie Higgins: people.

Em: I know there's a lot of people that have gluten.

Katie Higgins: There you go.

Em: issues.

Katie Higgins: Mm -hmm

Em: And blessedly, I am not afflicted with any of them. But I don't also just go around eating giant loaves of bread all day. Like... I don't like...

Katie Higgins: and ah

Em: will You eat? A sensible meal.

Katie Higgins: ah just

Em: times a day make sure it looks triangle -esque on the pyramid you know i can't just have a bowl full of chocolate

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: But I can have some. You know, Justin's got blood work done.

Katie Higgins: Yeah?

Em: And he's like. On this, it's the time of year where he's like, oh, I haven't had any of my checkups. So he like. gets them all aggressive.

Katie Higgins: Does them all.

Em: Like.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: super aggressive and it it like freaks me out i'm like what are we doing settle down

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Katie Higgins: Yeah, what, ah yeah.

Em: And um so his blood work came back and one of his cholesterols is higher than, you know, his perfect textbook picture that he always has.

Katie Higgins: oh of ah This is.

Em: Here you go.

Katie Higgins: The pilot, listen.

Em: Yes. It's not. perfect Like this is the number you're supposed to have. And it's like.

Katie Higgins: mm -hmm

Em: slightly outside that bounds. And um so he's like, I can't have, ah we no longer can get whole milk. We can't have butter. We can't have red meat. we I was like. First of all.

Katie Higgins: Whoa. ah Butter. No, no

Em: First of all.

Katie Higgins: Yeah. Yeah.

Em: I get good Irish better. Okay. It's not some.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: ah Second of all, nobody wants to drink less than whole milk, okay? Also weirded out by all of the weird milks, okay? I have told people at Blockhouse for years.

Em: Because every time. um you know

Katie Higgins: Which milk would you like?

Em: Which milk would you like, right? I'm like, whole. Or when I ask for like, i'm if I'm getting a drip, I want cream and they go half and half.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: And I said, I didn't say half and half. I said cream.

Katie Higgins: Oh. whipped cream, like the true heavy whipping cream.

Em: I love you. Yes.

Katie Higgins: i It is good.

Em: Okay. I don't really eat breakfast. I know I should. and on the day I'm like focused and I have time.

Katie Higgins: No, I don't either

Em: I will eat a good breakfast.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: But my cream keeps me going.

Katie Higgins: and Well, and I have actually. In the times of my life where I did like. low carb and like actually followed like a diet plan. uh Which, like, listen, I'll tell anyone. Thank God for a GLP -1. It has saved my life. I finally eat in moderation for the first time in my entire life.

Katie Higgins: and um but i they i think like isn't the whipped cream the heavy cream in your coffee is like It's actually like. It's got enough fat. It's got enough. protein. It's got enough like all the thick calories in general, that it's like.

Em: Neity? Seishity? I never know.

Katie Higgins: say the sat she Yes, it satiates you.

Em: how

Em: Yes.

Katie Higgins: It satiates you

Em: And. um it doesn't have a bunch of fillers some yes do have kerogenin and in a perfect world would i be getting a lovely true Heavy whipping cream, yes.

Em: It's not always available, but carrageenan is basically seaweed.

Katie Higgins: Sure.

Em: So.

Katie Higgins: oh

Em: you know well it's still from nature.

Katie Higgins: Learn something new every day.

Em: um

Katie Higgins: Learn something new every day. So.

Em: it's oatmeal don't give me oat milk and it's actually really bad for your glycemic index so

Katie Higgins: Is it really? I do. I will say I do like an oat milk. It's got this like sweetness to it, which is probably why it's bad for your glycemic index. so There you go.

Em: No, like there are so many different.

Katie Higgins: There you go.

Em: things So Justin was like, we can't have any of these foods anymore.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: I was like first of all we don't even eat that much red meat. like hamburger sure you know there's always ground beef and something it feels like but we don't actually eat that much red meat.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Katie Higgins: Yeah, it does

Em: And I said, you just need. to make better choices. You know?

Katie Higgins: yeah

Em: Have more, like... You cannot, when you're on the road. Get a Philly cheesesteak.

Katie Higgins: ah

Em: And. You know, like. Well, the other night we were at his parents' house for... um my father -in -law's birthday and they were, they ordered pizza. And it's right after he got all this news, he goes, I can't. I don't think I can eat.

Katie Higgins: oh

Em: I said, well, you could have a.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: couple of slices of pizza. That's okay.

Katie Higgins: Mhm.

Em: Tomorrow, you eat something sensible.

Katie Higgins: Yes, yes.

Em: I do. activity though i said i want you to look at this menu And I want you, he. got pizza from Some new Adriatic something in Rosenberg.

Katie Higgins: Okay. I've seen this. It's in Rosenberg. I...

Em: It was good.

Katie Higgins: ah Well... It was good. Okay, good to know. good to know

Em: And um so I... I handed him the menu and I said, which pizza do you think? is the healthiest pizza on here. so they got mark and judy got a margarita a pepperoni and like a supreme basically right so those were the kinds that we got um and they said on this menu

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Katie Higgins: Okay. Okay.

Em: Which one do you think? Is. the healthiest option.

Katie Higgins: Oh, okay. Okay.

Em: Not missing a beat. Hawaiian.

Em: Justin, why do you think Hawaiian?

Katie Higgins: Why? why

Em: Is the healthiest pizza on here? It's got pineapple.

Katie Higgins: Oh. actually like candy.

Em: um It does. This is actually not the healthiest.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: on here I'm going to say maybe the Greek that has like 18 veggies. And again,

Katie Higgins: Okay, yeah.

Em: Huh? Might be. or the

Katie Higgins: I was going to say out of the ones. you listed the margarita would have to be the best the best one, right? You'd think.

Em: Right. And they had all sorts of pizza.

Katie Higgins: Oh, but they had other ones. Okay.

Em: Yeah. Those were the ones they ordered.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: But I handed him the menu. Which one do you think is the healthiest?

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: you know The one that has 17 veggies and spinach and you know all sorts of great things.

Katie Higgins: I...

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: For the Hawaiian, which is basically candied pineapple.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: and bacon.

Katie Higgins: And... For the record, I love Hawaiian pizza.

Em: Here it is.

Katie Higgins: So this is no this is no hate on Justin because I love Hawaiian pizza.

Em: I am hating on both of you now.

Katie Higgins: But I would say. Oh, you don't like Hawaiian pizza? Oh, especially when they do it like Texan style and they put jalapenos on it.

Em: No.

Katie Higgins: So it's jalapeno. Um, ah I don't know who does this. There's a restaurant in town though that does. jalapeno pineapple the Canadian bacon and feta.

Katie Higgins: I love it So good. Yeah. But. I'd say the Greek one as well. Don't people say in general, like Mediterranean diets are the...

Em: It's a blue zone.

Katie Higgins: Okay. Great.

Em: So the blue zone countries. um really big on beans, on veggies.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: Good oils and fats.

Katie Higgins: So lean proteins. veggies, good oils, good fats.

Em: Fish.

Katie Higgins: uh

Em: again

Katie Higgins: um Okay.

Em: You know?

Katie Higgins: The good fats, the good fats. Yeah. I mean, Oh, olives. Yeah. So good. Oh, okay. Well, before we move on from New York, then I do have to tell you about this drink. Okay. it Let me see if I have a picture of of the... of the the menu. So I can say this correctly. So also being with a 23 year old, and this is, this will make sense because I'm talking about olives.

Katie Higgins: like how I came back to that. Um, being with a Gen Z. Uh... They know how to find these underground bars. So... We ended up in this place that was.

Katie Higgins: behind a curtain in a subway station. Um, Eat. was quite possibly one of the coolest experiences of my life. And it was all locals.

Katie Higgins: It was not too, like it was, it was just, it was so cool. And. I mean, I fit right in. I fit right in. just Totally. up Uh...

Katie Higgins: I better have a picture of this. Oh, I do. I do. i do Nope, nope. well Okay. I probably made Julia take the picture, so I do not have it. But it was basically a fantastic.

Katie Higgins: I can't remember if it was vodka or gin. No, it was probably Jen because I remember thinking Emily would love this and I don't think I would have thought that if it was vodka. um Because you don't like a vodka martini.

Em: i do i do

Katie Higgins: Oh, okay.

Em: Yeah, no, I love.

Katie Higgins: But you prefer a gin.

Em: Oh my God.

Katie Higgins: Yeah, I mean, i I'm getting to that point. where all martinis are. So, but it was, I I'm pretty sure it was a gin martini. who Who? Now I don't know. I've i've confused myself.

Em: It is a a martini, a true martini.

Katie Higgins: It was a true martini, gin or vodka, dirty. And then the blue cheese olives. There were like four. And also it wasn't served in a martini glass. It was served in like a high bowl.

Katie Higgins: And which I was at first very put off by. And then I tasted it and I was like, well, I'm very glad this serving size is this. And. um

Katie Higgins: I don't know if they had some sort of blue cheese liqueur. i don't know how they did it But this was the most.

Katie Higgins: This could have, like I joke sometimes that a martini is dinner. which It is. But this was actually, I was so satiated.

Katie Higgins: It... it And it was it was salty. but you could still taste. The... The martini, the liquor, it was so cold. ah i will I will report back next week with an actual recipe.

Em: So whatever. Because I did this once. And then, of course, I.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: I tried it once and then left the bottle in the back of my fridge. for

Katie Higgins: Okay. Years, yes.

Em: and a amount of time

Katie Higgins: Yep, it happens.

Em: hi yeah And you've been to bars where they do this, where they infuse a tequila usually or a vodka. Right.

Katie Higgins: oh

Em: Where if anybody, if you guys have. has Have you been to Houston Dairy Maids?

Katie Higgins: No, but I've heard about it

Em: oh it's fantastic and they do these cheese boxes for like 50 bucks and there's always a blue cheese option and I like blue cheese. I like it in my martinis. I don't like to just Ciao.

Katie Higgins: No.

Em: on one on a board.

Katie Higgins: Eh. And also, let me be clear, it's it was not like I was...

Em: I'm not that grown up yet.

Katie Higgins: drinking. pieces of blue cheese It was it was very.

Em: my that Salinity was in there.

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: And.

Katie Higgins: Yes, that's the way to describe it.

Em: What? I did. was in a bottle put the rest of the blue cheese from that this box and then I covered it I can't remember if it was vodka or gin.

Em: And you just let it sit for like a week and it. Then you filter it out. strain it out, right? It's the same kind of concept as like a milk punch where you're you're clarifying these, not a milk punch.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: clarified have you ever seen on ah on a martini menu or on a cocktail menu like that clarified. daiquiri or something like that.

Katie Higgins: Oh no, but now I'll pay attention.

Em: Well, it'll freak you out probably.

Katie Higgins: Oh.

Em: because you like basically pour a gallon of milk in there End of the score. See ya. It's like a batch cocktail. and then It like...

Em: Goes all gross. and everything that curdles, and then you strain it out. and

Katie Higgins: Oh, okay. Okay.

Em: go from the milk part

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: And there's some I don't know.

Katie Higgins: Okay, and In a daiquiri, it's often creamy.

Em: So we're live.

Em: Yes.

Katie Higgins: So...

Em: I've done it with a margarita. as well.

Katie Higgins: oh

Em: Um... It's a like you really have to get outside your headspace when you do it.

Katie Higgins: interesting

Katie Higgins: Yes. Yes.

Em: Is it gross looking? But I think it even... Nope, I'm not going to go as far as say it will make it shelf stable. But it's like totally ready to go.

Em: And like really smooths out the flavor. So all that to say, we could try this where I do get another hunk of blue cheese and maybe next week.

Katie Higgins: um Okay?

Katie Higgins: Oh.

Em: have good martinis. ah

Katie Higgins: oh

Em: Try it. Writing that down.

Katie Higgins: Done and done. i Tell me what I need to bring. ah

Em: if yourself. Also.

Katie Higgins: Oh I can't wait.

Em: Can we just also applaud the bar? Four olives. Okay, because I am getting.

Katie Higgins: Four.

Em: yard of being People pimping on my olives.

Katie Higgins: Yes. Yes.

Em: It is.

Katie Higgins: I agree.

Em: the i Like I get olives are somewhat expensive, but. Give the.

Katie Higgins: Then charge me more for the martini. I don't care.

Em: I'll pay extra.

Katie Higgins: Mm -hmm. I will I will

Em: Give me... More than two olives.

Katie Higgins: Mm hmm.

Em: It's just my personal opinion

Katie Higgins: I agree completely. I agree completely.

Em: Um.

Katie Higgins: Yes. so Okay, well. Uhhh... Tell me about our other favorite ah designer or or our favorite designer. Tell me about Sophie. She had...

Katie Higgins: How was the creative meeting? How was... The ah excursion.

Em: okay y 'all

Katie Higgins: for her.

Em: She has a sales goal.

Katie Higgins: Okay. Okay.

Em: And. Hook her down to Katie Mills.

Katie Higgins: Okay. Okay.

Em: and And went in. she looked at two different bags she went and she tried them on

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: in one and i'm really um glad she chose the one she did the other one was just slightly too big for her frame.

Katie Higgins: Okay, okay.

Em: on

Katie Higgins: like the original one that she was looking at.

Em: The one that I think she'd pulled up a picture of, they had...

Katie Higgins: Okay, sure.

Em: no they had And it was just slightly. chunkier. In...

Katie Higgins: Sure.

Em: a tiny way but

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: She bought her first coach.

Katie Higgins: Oh my gosh. I love it

Em: And was she is just on. cloud nine about it all. Um, And she's just like this.

Em: little tiny adult. And I love it.

Katie Higgins: ah Yeah.

Em: Yeah. um

Katie Higgins: I love it

Em: Things have been good. I think this weekend we might be able to finally accomplish. the Japanese knot bags.

Katie Higgins: Oh, okay. Okay.

Em: Bye, Brock.

Katie Higgins: So.

Em: samples.

Katie Higgins: Oh, I can't wait to see. Let me see. Okay, let me get.

Em: So um we will.

Katie Higgins: Let me get even more focused here on my...

Em: We went to mood fabrics.

Katie Higgins: screen. Okay, you've been telling me about this. This place is in Houston, correct?

Em: It's interesting.

Katie Higgins: Oh.

Em: This is a little seed bead. um friend.

Katie Higgins: Whoa, fringe? Oh.

Em: Amen. also picked this kind of silver.

Katie Higgins: Oh.

Em: So these will go at the base of the bag.

Katie Higgins: Okay. Okay.

Em: And then she picked out three different. um liberty fabrics so it's a pro one

Katie Higgins: They had Now, did they have these Liberty fabrics at the place or you already had these?

Em: No, we bought them at mood. They had.

Katie Higgins: Huh?

Em: a really extensive collection.

Katie Higgins: What?

Katie Higgins: Ooh.

Em: of The Liberty. So bag number.

Katie Higgins: Oh, gorgeous.

Em: i

Katie Higgins: Oh my gosh.

Em: Um, Let's see. bag and she picked out all of the fabrics um i i picked out several that she was so that's not my problem

Katie Higgins: Not ah not ah like your neon sweater the other day. She just did not. She wasn't feeling it.

Em: fabric. rick Number two.

Katie Higgins: Oh, that is beautiful. Okay. So if y 'all are listening to the podcast, you are gonna maybe want to check out the, uh, video, the video option because, and then maybe I'll, uh, also get it, make sure I get a clip of this portion so we can put it on, on the Instagram.

Em: This one's my favorite.

Em: and see that.

Katie Higgins: Um, Okay, what color is that? It's kind of...

Em: This is ah Blue and Blue.

Katie Higgins: Oh, okay. Love. Love.

Em: kind of a

Katie Higgins: Now, Liberty Fabrics, you have taught me, these are from... London. Is that correct?

Em: That is correct. So Liberty of London's, um I believe he started as.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: maybe a wallpaperist or

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: something but they started designing their own fabrics years and years and years ago and have some of the most beautiful cotton lawns and if you're not familiar it's a really almost silky cotton it's delightfully light um

Katie Higgins: oh

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: But.

Katie Higgins: What'd you call it? Cotton what? cotton.

Em: One.

Katie Higgins: Cotton lawn. Okay.

Em: cotton Tana cotton lawn. is the name of this particular fabric but they also have

Katie Higgins: Okay. Okay.

Em: um all sorts of other weights of cotton. um It is in this. fabulous old building that i want to say

Em: 1500s?

Katie Higgins: wow what

Em: like the staircase in the middle of the department store. is basically the original staircase. um

Katie Higgins: Wow.

Em: It is just the coolest store. You've probably seen photos of it.

Katie Higgins: Okay. Okay.

Em: um It's this black and white building. That is in London. Everybody goes and gets their picture there because it is.

Katie Higgins: Oh, okay.

Em: So fabulous. Um, Probably didn't take a picture of when it was built but They are just really, really well known for their fabrics.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: Yep. designs. designs

Katie Higgins: Okay, so now the Japanese knot bag.

Em: Hmm?

Katie Higgins: It's it's that it's got the two to like larger straps and then they crisscross each other or not they like one goes into the other.

Em: yeah

Katie Higgins: And. it like Oh! look oh oh how cute and then the fringe is going to be on the bottom

Em: Correct.

Katie Higgins: oh I cannot wait to see this.

Em: So that's.

Katie Higgins: I am so excited.

Em: Saturday. Afternoon we will cut out the first of the bags.

Katie Higgins: And do we have a... date location time for her fall pop -up.

Em: We don't yet. and here's

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: here's the issue guys

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: um The designer's mother.

Katie Higgins: I, I. I think I know where this is going.

Em: it's very

Katie Higgins: Know what? no

Em: The designer's mother is spending a lot of time out of town.

Katie Higgins: Yeah. And the designer's mother also spends a lot of time in the sweatshop.

Em: oh

Katie Higgins: so

Em: I do, but... um You know, we're going to L .A. We've got the concert outside of San Antonio.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: And then it's... um with uh justin being a southwest employee we have

Katie Higgins: Yes?

Em: fabulous luxury of being able to fly as a non -revenue passenger.

Katie Higgins: Yes?

Em: on airlines across the world. So.

Katie Higgins: I, this is

Em: What? um The kids.

Katie Higgins: Yes, because Fall Break is here in the mix.

Em: Great. Like it's not like three or four day weekend.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: We have 10 days off.

Em: So.

Katie Higgins: Wait, what?

Em: We have a Friday off. then the the weekend saturday sunday

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: then The whole next week. then the weekend, and then we go back to school the following Monday.

Katie Higgins: Okay, my kids do not have that. My kids have off a Friday and a Monday. Wow.

Em: Yeah. So -

Katie Higgins: Yeah, you have, that's that's significant.

Em: um we will be Sophie and I are hoping um Justin and Owen are along for right. But some of us are really hoping to go.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: overseas and get inspired and maybe

Katie Higgins: I was going to say, i has the destination been determined yet? Because I know I've heard a couple of options, but.

Em: hi yes Yes. um Some of us are manifesting Italy and Spain.

Katie Higgins: I'm here for this.

Em: Um, All of us are aware and familiar with the fact because we are non -revenue passengers, meaning

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: We pay a... fraction of the cost but

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: usually stand by.

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: um

Katie Higgins: So you spend some time at the airport.

Em: You spend a lot of time at the airport. You don't know um what seats you're getting.

Katie Higgins: Right.

Em: You don't know if everybody's making the flight. You have to.

Katie Higgins: Oh!

Em: Like. Yeah.

Katie Higgins: So it could end up being.

Em: So...

Katie Higgins: two and two, or...

Em: Right. Or.

Katie Higgins: Oh, okay.

Em: And it could even be two of us end up like Sophie and I get on a flight. We make the flight maybe to Amsterdam. Just in an overnight flight to Frankfurt.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: And.

Katie Higgins: Oh.

Em: Like.

Katie Higgins: but eventually you'll end up in Madrid together. Or...

Em: um right so you have to Stay flexible.

Katie Higgins: Something like that. Okay.

Em: It could be by the time I touch down. in Amsterdam.

Katie Higgins: Uh huh.

Em: That Justin, you know, in my inbox, because he's had extra time at the Houston airport, you know, he's like, hey.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: Here is your hotel booking. You need to get there.

Katie Higgins: up

Em: um We're going to meet you in Amsterdam. We're able to get an earlier flight. So whatever it is, right? Like you just never know.

Katie Higgins: How exciting.

Em: pivot from there. Hey, we can't, um the flights and trains look bad for Italy because they're on strike. What if we go to Copenhagen? And I'll say, okay, great. um

Katie Higgins: i Love this. Yes.

Em: As a type A... personality.

Katie Higgins: You don't. You don't.

Em: stressful.

Katie Higgins: Mm hmm.

Em: I do have to put some boundaries up for Justin. Because.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: The stressful part comes in packing. Right?

Katie Higgins: sure Oh! Listen, I would never make it.

Em: We... I... I will pack a light jacket or coat.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: And as. and I'll have some base layer stuff, but we can't go somewhere super tropical. Because I am packed for maybe. a high of 60.

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: It can't be.

Katie Higgins: Right.

Em: a 80. Because I.

Katie Higgins: Right, you'll die.

Em: area. Right.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: So. Um.

Katie Higgins: well and then also vice versa you can't suddenly end up in the tundra

Em: Well, it just

Katie Higgins: You'll freeze.

Em: more doesn't it

Katie Higgins: What?

Em: It just costs Justin more, doesn't it?

Katie Higgins: What?

Katie Higgins: oh well just Yes.

Em: So all that.

Katie Higgins: Minor detail. No, I'm just kidding.

Em: and

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: All that to say, um it will be probably. Um, late October. Uh,

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: earliest.

Katie Higgins: I think that is a wonderful time.

Em: Amen. it um If it doesn't happen then, then probably at the Christmas community walk. The first Friday.

Katie Higgins: ah

Em: in December in Richmond.

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: setting up there. so

Katie Higgins: I think that is also a fantastic idea because These especially, not not that the other ones wouldn't, but. I mean, they'd all make great gifts, all of them.

Em: Right. But.

Katie Higgins: All of them. And that gives you a lot of time to build up inventory.

Em: crowd. And she has a ton of time to really build inventory and not let her grade.

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: so

Katie Higgins: Ah, yes, that's important. That's important. I love it. I love it. So.

Em: You know, being responsible business owner and a student is very difficult.

Katie Higgins: it It really is. It really is. There's a lot on her plate.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: and ah Decision fatigue. could become could become, ah but she's got you to to put the guardrails on. I love it. I love it.

Em: Yes.

Katie Higgins: That's awesome

Em: um What else are we going to talk about? What?

Katie Higgins: well

Em: game.

Katie Higgins: Did you watch the ah James Tallarico interview?

Em: I haven't yet. I want...

Katie Higgins: Okay, I haven't either. I haven't either. I've only watched the social media clips, but also I've heard him interviewed a handful of times. So I think at this point, I i basically know what he's going to say, you know, like, right.

Em: Mm -hmm.

Katie Higgins: Cause they have like their, um but I think the.

Em: Is it not? One that was on YouTube is a second interview.

Katie Higgins: This so that happened on Colbert. Right? It was Colbert, I think, first time.

Em: Yeah. Definitely.

Katie Higgins: And now it has happened.

Em: You're going off the air.

Katie Higgins: on Yes, and now it has happened on Kimmel where... The FCC took him or apparently threatened Kimmel and

Em: Mm -hmm.

Katie Higgins: that's Now that's Kimmel's words. That's Kimmel's words.

Em: Right.

Katie Higgins: um

Em: It's already happened once with Stephen Colbert. and

Katie Higgins: Right. And anyways, they put it up on. to ah YouTube and it's it's like over 5 million views or something crazy right now. Like it was at like two something the first day.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: So I don't know. It's like big things happening here in Texas. I think big things happening.

Em: Well, did you see over the weekend Beau French and what he said? about that UT clip. Did you see this? This.

Katie Higgins: No, I didn't.

Em: all All of the Republicans are even up in arms about it. which about damn probably grow a spine, it seems.

Katie Higgins: Oh. OK, listen, that my petty Betty era of the my petty Betty ah thing of the week is is.

Em: one

Katie Higgins: Ah. Like, I... i've

Em: I will say before I hop on, I had a.

Katie Higgins: ah

Em: political knock at the door. Not much.

Katie Higgins: Did you?

Em: And I was like, hey.

Katie Higgins: For who?

Em: not and not my Not my folks.

Katie Higgins: Oh sourceer sure, sure, sure.

Em: And can I put you down for a yard sign? not today i think so

Katie Higgins: Nope. Not going to happen.

Em: I got him. I'm gonna go record.

Katie Higgins: Not going to happen.

Em: Um.

Katie Higgins: Yeah, no.

Em: ah So there was a clip from the UT game. That. ah Beau French, who... ah Railroad?

Katie Higgins: Yeah, you're going to you're gonna have to educate me.

Em: ri oh shoot i know what he's running for i want to say it's railroad or Ag, maybe?

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: Um...

Katie Higgins: like commissioner. for the state of Texas.

Em: Yeah, one of those for the state of Texas.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: And.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: In this shot of the UT game, which was an incredible UT game, by the way.

Katie Higgins: I saw so they won, right?

Em: Which, like like, made a million points. 20. And, like... three minutes or something.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: thank you

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: um We had family that was at the game. They left in the fourth quarter.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: By the time they got home and turned on the TV, they were like, wait, what's happening? what

Katie Higgins: Oh no. Oh no. Yeah.

Em: Um.

Katie Higgins: yeah um Also, welcome to your football catch -up with Emily and Katie.

Em: who knew you would get this.

Katie Higgins: where we I mean...

Em: from these folks.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: I love you.

Katie Higgins: That's right. That's right. You've already known so much though.

Em: Sorry. Sorry if you didn't catch that score, guys. um

Katie Higgins: I know, I know.

Em: So the scene or the... the in the the shot was predominantly um it looked like Pakistani or Indian, but...

Em: Um, asian Men? All in knee garb, you know, cheering on their football team.

Katie Higgins: Okay?

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: soup sided And it was basically Beau French making a comment of. What happened to our Texas? We can't let all of these. different folks and And I think even.

Katie Higgins: oh I did see this, one of my cousins.

Em: I miss John Ford. was like

Katie Higgins: is she... ah Well, didn't John Cornyn back Tallarico, if I remember correctly?

Em: Yeah. John Cornyn is my backbone.

Katie Higgins: No?

Em: No, he's not gonna. back tallarico now he might

Katie Higgins: No, no, hold on, hold on.

Em: and Something against. Beau French. Um...

Katie Higgins: Hold on. i think I think I just heard this. I think I just heard this. Let me look it up. John Cornyn. backs Tallerico. Let me see if this is...

Em: Like.

Katie Higgins: All right, I'll be back.

Em: On Politico, Texas Republicans denounce GOP statewide candidate over xenophobic post. um So, I mean, they're all saying.

Katie Higgins: oh

Em: Something.

Katie Higgins: Okay, sorry, I got it wrong. Cornyn refuses to back. Paxton. but he won't back Tallarico.

Em: well Yeah.

Katie Higgins: So.

Em: couldn mindless And he wants to like have people love him. And he just...

Katie Higgins: oh

Em: Get her get off the pot.

Katie Higgins: Oh, okay. I thought I saw this. OK, longtime Cornyn staffer joins Democratic.

Em: Windsor.

Katie Higgins: TELERICO SENATE. midterm. election. Whatever. Okay. So. Oh, how awful.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: That is horrible. Okay, so so Republicans that were actually saying this was horrible.

Em: they're actually say, no, we're not.

Katie Higgins: Good.

Em: Go back.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: Um... Bye. No. Cornyn is not.

Katie Higgins: I...

Em: ah hopping in with um Tallarico. Because he is.

Katie Higgins: Okay. All right. Yes.

Em: Um,

Katie Higgins: He doesn't... Well, here Well, okay, here's ah a little hot take. Or no no, actually, I don't know what a hot take is. I should stop saying that. I don't know what a hot take is. so

Em: We're going to find out. My take.

Katie Higgins: It's a it. But here is a here is a. um Okay. just, uh, observations from Here's my thoughts. Here's my thoughts. We have thoughts. Hello.

Katie Higgins: um being in New York City for 9 -11 was interesting. Did this, do you feel like This. hit you harder or the same as other years?

Katie Higgins: not this 25 year.

Em: Um. I think. I... um I followed a lot of the my Mom Donnie chatter. about it all.

Katie Higgins: Okay. Okay.

Em: And for me...

Katie Higgins: That.

Em: what i

Katie Higgins: How did you know that's where I was going?

Em: Well, because I think that's where everybody is right now, right? and there was like Rudy Giuliani was like, I'm not going to be there if he's going to be there.

Katie Higgins: Right.

Em: And there was all of this, like, we can't have this Arab doing this.

Katie Higgins: Right.

Em: And I'm like.

Katie Higgins: Oh, God.

Em: What I found to be so inspiring was many of the New Yorkers take. on it. um On social media. this. What the Taliban wanted was to destroy.

Em: the fabric of America and the fabric of New York. And how amazing is it? that a somewhat socialist. Muslim man.

Em: Is now. Mayor of New York City. and

Katie Higgins: I am covered in chills and about to cry.

Em: yeah like Like, he is my mayor.

Katie Higgins: Like.

Em: Um.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: doing an amazing job. you know.

Katie Higgins: And... And... very um pro Americans. Do you know?

Em: Pro -

Katie Higgins: Do you know what I mean? i

Em: New York! And I think that's what

Katie Higgins: Pro New York.

Em: like

Katie Higgins: that's And that's a big one.

Em: new york When people talk about... America. And they have this concept of the melting pot and the great American dream. It all originates.

Katie Higgins: Uh huh.

Em: in new york city you have ellen

Katie Higgins: Ooh, interesting.

Em: People coming in and seeing that Statue of Liberty and, you know. Fievel goes west and all of these cultural Americana. symbols.

Katie Higgins: start in New York.

Em: there

Katie Higgins: interesting.

Em: Right.

Katie Higgins: Interesting.

Em: And on that day, 25 years ago. that shattered America. Do we not remember? The months afterwards, like at Austin High School, every day between periods.

Em: I can't tell you how many times I heard Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA, right? Like it was ingrained in us. This page.

Katie Higgins: Right.

Em: And that this is what makes us great.

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: You had George. ah W. Bush coming out and saying, hey, yes, these were Muslim people that did this, but not all Muslims are terrorists.

Katie Higgins: Right.

Em: like

Katie Higgins: Right, like...

Em: Yes. stood together.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: shoulder to shoulder And to watch.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: this unfold. last week where so many elected officials and formerly elected officials are up in arms about it all.

Em: But then did you see the the, there was a clip of Mom Donnie and AOC.

Katie Higgins: i know

Em: greeting each other. And of course, what all of the... um How do I politically say this? All the other news stations.

Katie Higgins: Sure sure sure

Em: And outlets. All they did was play this clip of the two of them. smiling and laughing and how repugnant it is that they are laughing during this 9 -11 ceremony and all of that.

Em: And a Republican stepped forward and said, actually, I was there. This is just like you guys cut so much.

Katie Higgins: Mm hmm.

Em: Yes. You're only showing this tiny blip. they were greeting each other. They weren't like whispering and gossiping during the reading of the names or anything like that. They they greeted each other.

Em: you could tell they enjoyed each other's company kind of thing.

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: Bye.

Katie Higgins: Okay, gotcha.

Em: They were appropriate. for the scenario. And then he was the last one to leave, you know? I mean, like, and it wouldn't surprise me if he was sweeping stuff up.

Katie Higgins: ah Yes.

Em: been Right? Like...

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: He has done a phenomenal job.

Katie Higgins: I...

Em: and It's exhausting for me. as an American. And. as someone who remembers where they were. 25 years ago.

Katie Higgins: Right.

Em: to watch our nation become so fractured again. Because it's stuff.

Katie Higgins: Okay, yes. Yeah, it's like.

Em: that opens the door. For things like that to happen again

Katie Higgins: I...

Em: So.

Katie Higgins: Could not agree more.

Em: You're fine.

Katie Higgins: I...

Em: My 30 minute We Have Thoughts thought on.

Katie Higgins: No, i I absolutely love it because that without us even. talking about it. that was exactly so i don't i don't need to to add anything to it because that was it because that that when i because all I just started the the vitriol just all of a sudden was coming across my feed.

Katie Higgins: And I was like, wait. what is going on? Like this, like I literally had to stop for a minute and be like, Who's pissed at what now? Like today is supposed to be about remembrance.

Katie Higgins: And about. America coming together like that, like you said that day. And and for me, I just cannot get over the all that with the any any time the.

Katie Higgins: formers are together. they are just The... their or their wives. They're just fantastic together, all four of them, Clinton, Biden.

Katie Higgins: Bush and Obama and

Em: mm -hmm

Katie Higgins: I... I just love footage of them together. and I... And then also because Bush was president that day.

Katie Higgins: And then these other presidents alongside him, even though. They all have. things they disagree on and they are just being human beings for you know and that and i feel like that is what the four of them show the most is um The eight of them, because the four of them and their wives, I think, are are doing a phenomenal job just being.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: human beings. and um So I'm just, I'm just, you know, looking at photos and just being like, oh my God, you know, and all of a sudden I see all this crap coming. and I'm like, wait. Who has anything to be mad about right now? Other than, like...

Katie Higgins: Other than... still being sad for what happened.

Em: Because I think.

Katie Higgins: And I'm starting.

Em: Sorry to cut you off.

Katie Higgins: No, you're fine. no

Em: Did you see, and I'm curious because you were in New York at this that week.

Katie Higgins: mm -hmm

Em: Mondani released all those health reports. that were suppressed.

Katie Higgins: I did see that. And.

Em: And.

Katie Higgins: I...

Em: steward doing the Lord's work. for 25 years. trying to get Um. justice for all of you.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: not just first responders, but... you know,

Katie Higgins: Anyone that breathed it all in, yeah.

Em: like Thank you. And.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: This affected an entire city. in a catastrophic way. Thank you.

Katie Higgins: Definitely. Well, because then didn't they even do, they did something.

Em: roomy

Katie Higgins: They did an additional moment of silence this year, I think for. the people that have passed um,

Em: Good. Post.

Katie Higgins: since post COVID or ah sorry, post 9 -11 from. from the after effects. And I'll be completely honest. I didn't know anything about that. And maybe it's because I don't live in New York. I don't, but I didn't, I didn't know anything about that. So that was very interesting to learn more about that. But, um,

Katie Higgins: When I saw people saying that about. mum donnie like all the things like like that like oh i'm not gonna go can't or or the the flip was how far you know, how, how the heck. have we gotten here where this man is the mayor. when these and it was like oh my god no it's the and then i saw that the the the after the rebuttal was like, no.

Katie Higgins: That's exactly what they were trying to destroy.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: was... The melting pot. And. If we had been that, we would have been giving them what they wanted. This is The. Ultimate.

Katie Higgins: See? Uh. Win. That... That he is the mayor and and really does seem by all accounts to be an incredible, incredible human.

Katie Higgins: So I.

Em: I'm obsessed.

Katie Higgins: Uh, I...

Em: Um...

Katie Higgins: I am too.

Em: From, like, a...

Katie Higgins: i i Yes.

Em: ah Social media standpoint, his whole office has got it on point. from the color

Katie Higgins: They're killing it.

Em: that you know, the little jingles, my name. is maba mom donny mom like it's a great little jingle everything

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: He is working with Like... you know, oh gosh, their street services is. way backlogged or their parks, right? And so there's basketball courts that are inaccessible to people of the community. And everybody's so backlogged within the city. He's created this alternate.

Em: workforce of hey are you like let's work out a contract let's get these parks open let's do this let's do this and people are coming together and taking such pride. in their

Katie Higgins: Oh wow.

Em: city again. they I read somewhere. They've had. Zero crime. Nobody has been murdered. in new york in months.

Em: Like...

Katie Higgins: Where are you?

Em: Hey. I don't know.

Katie Higgins: Are you serious?

Em: Now, ah this is what I, it was, I cannot quote the source.

Katie Higgins: Yeah, sure sure sure Totally understand.

Em: Right. but It came across um something I was reading. I was like, oh my God, I don't know if this is true or not.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: so hard. Unless you're ready.

Katie Higgins: To know.

Em: i've anymore.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: Rest. Anything.

Katie Higgins: No joke. No joke.

Em: Yeah. It's it's been... amazing I am. You know, when he was running and everybody was screaming, oh, there he's going to destroy New York and socialism is like so going to destroy everything. And what we're watching happen in real time is.

Em: No.

Katie Higgins: That it's not.

Em: It's. It's the AWP? This is... What?

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: And I don't know if that is something that is sustainable for an entire.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: country of our size. I don't.

Katie Higgins: Sure.

Em: I have that answer. but New York seems to be doing okay.

Katie Higgins: and if And they're quite large. so You know, like, let's, ah like, let's at least sit back and cheer this guy on. as us being not New Yorkers, you know, like is my thought, like, why don't we, that, that.

Em: Right.

Katie Higgins: That I think is a big part of like. a lot of what's shaping how I'm. viewing kind of everything is like whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa Why do we get mad? at people that are having fun doing good or what you know it's like how about we cheer these people on and embrace it And see what happens.

Em: Mm hmm.

Katie Higgins: instead of just constantly, always. tearing each other down. in every. in every in every way. so oh Oh, I will do a little plug then as well, because. um No, there is not. not nearly as much to discuss with the Lindsay Clancy trial at this moment, but I will say the the Oprah podcast.

Katie Higgins: Dead. the Most I didn't even know there was an Oprah podcast. And I do still think that woman is an incredible journalist, like her ability to interview people, all of that. um Also, it got a little hot. and It got a little heated in the audience at her thing, at her um at her taping of this and the way she. so respectfully brought it back i was like wow this woman is just good at her craft at what she does She did.

Katie Higgins: A. Conversation. About. the Lindsay Clancy trial. And what she focused on was this is a watershed moment in our nation.

Katie Higgins: where, cause she interviewed Andrea Yates's husband. She was there. for all of those things. And she said, the conversation happening now. versus what happened. during The Andrea Yates trial is.

Katie Higgins: showing The world. That. Our society is ready. To have to have these big conversations instead of just being.

Katie Higgins: She's a monster. Done. Full stop. It's now. Oh no, we have to, we have to have this dialogue. And she had on people that. actually had ideas of ways.

Katie Higgins: Because oh she was very like. Obviously, we cannot fix this. In a day? And also. The Lindsay Clancy trial is not. Who who?

Katie Higgins: conviction, non -conviction, whatever. Is not going to. change this. It's not be in that what that we have. I mean, it is going to change things, but what she meant is like all of us. fighting about this.

Katie Higgins: Isn't actually going to do anything. What is going to do something is if we keep having the conversations about what. happened to her and to the children so that we don't have it happen again.

Katie Higgins: I know, Juicy.

Katie Higgins: really good things that like actually could change. um one of One of the people, ah she has written a book and she studies, she's interviewed for years and years and years, women who kill their children. And to understand, she has a book, I think that's called Women Who Kill or something like that.

Katie Higgins: and She talked about it and she said. Something that they do, I believe, in in the UK is where. there, which which was really interesting. She said in the UK when it is.

Katie Higgins: when ah when a mother kills her children. It's automatically manslaughter. It is not first -degree murder. Or it's their equivalent or whatever.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: And so that and it's also not a public spectacle. And it's not, um but so there's just some, there's some guardrails in place for compassion. And. she said something that she thinks, because Oprah asked her, what is something we can actually accomplish here in the United States.

Katie Higgins: Like. As a small step forward. And she said, if in situations like this. The judge has. authority to exercise his judgment.

Katie Higgins: in the sentencing. portion of it. And she explained further about that. And so I won't go into detail, but just it was. It was it sounded. it was action It was actionable.

Katie Higgins: These are things we could change in the United States that would actually Possibly.

Katie Higgins: Protect women. Later. and And then another, um there was an incredible... ah psychiatrist I believe on. And she talked about pink flags versus red flags because with postpartum psychosis, they also talked a lot more about postpartum psychosis and how different it is from psychosis. And it was super, super interesting. But she talked about the pink flags that like.

Katie Higgins: We as a society need to be aware of the pink flags because with postpartum psychosis, when it's a red flag, it's too late. And. I... thought that was also.

Katie Higgins: Very. Very interesting. So. Major plug for the Oprah podcast.

Em: i have to go listen to it. i think

Katie Higgins: episode of The Lindsay Clancy.

Em: And it is still my personal opinion. And I'm going to go and listen to this podcast, but. We talked about it. The last few weeks.

Katie Higgins: I'll keep talking about it as long as there's something to talk about.

Em: well

Katie Higgins: I'm just going to tell you.

Em: mean um mental health. But I think also with that women's health, and it echoes back to what we talked about at the beginning of our discussion today with perimenopause, there has not been.

Em: Quality research. done for women's health.

Em: That's the sentence, right? like

Katie Higgins: Right.

Em: What works. For scientists and everything, you know, every time they test a drug. You know, it's. You know, they're looking at men. There's um what?

Em: I think.

Katie Higgins: Oh, I did not know that.

Em: The Grey's Anatomy episode. um which I stopped watching Grey's years ago, but I've seen the clip a few times. and um What's her name? Great.

Katie Higgins: Meredith.

Em: Mary.

Katie Higgins: Meredith Gray.

Em: Thank you. She is is working on Alzheimer's, right? And finding.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: for Alzheimer's. And. um the Oh, he was in Ally McBeal, and I can't think of the actor's name. and

Katie Higgins: Oh, such a good show. Also, I need to do a rewatch of Ally McBeal.

Em: in your mental health.

Katie Higgins: It's so good.

Em: But...

Katie Higgins: Oh.

Em: Um... So he's in it and he go and she goes, well, you only tested this medication. on male mice. And he goes, well, yeah. Female mice, if we give it to, you know, they have the hormones we have, you know, they're procreating, they're having babies and it affects the hormones. We need a stable variable.

Em: and And the whole point of the scene is like.

Katie Higgins: was to call it out.

Em: We know. we know about

Katie Higgins: Yeah. Exactly.

Em: It's weird.

Katie Higgins: We're not a stable variable.

Em: We are not. and

Katie Higgins: needs more research.

Em: you know to be researching. We need to have support systems. The medical community needs, I mean, it was even in the trial and whatever.

Em: psychiatry book, they don't recognize. Postpartum.

Katie Higgins: I know the the DSM -5.

Em: And.

Katie Higgins: I know.

Em: Right. I suffered from it. The number one thing I did, you know, we. We started a conversation with our doctor after I had Owen. And it was actually my sister who said.

Em: Why don't you stop breastfeeding? I was losing so much sleep. There was, you know.

Katie Higgins: oh

Em: And it was. you you You felt this. immense pressure to, I have to breastfeed my child.

Katie Higgins: he

Em: I have to do all of this. And he wouldn't latch. And it was so frustrating. And then you're feeling like a failure and you have zero sleep. The second you finally get the baby to go to sleep, they have that weird baby breath that you don't even know if they're still alive or not.

Em: and

Katie Higgins: Yes, yes.

Em: You know, and then it was, ah am I a failure because I didn't buy the special sock that tells me if my child is going to die in the next seven minutes?

Katie Higgins: well

Em: And.

Katie Higgins: um That happened.

Em: oh that

Katie Higgins: I don't think yet.

Em: Oh, that yes, it had.

Katie Higgins: Oh. Okay.

Em: Come out. Because it was like, am I supposed to buy this? You have all this immense pressure.

Katie Higgins: Right.

Em: um And it's just to the women. Right. I was so thankful. um Justin. has been by my side.

Katie Higgins: Mm hmm.

Em: As a parent. Um, The whole way. So once I decided to stop breastfeeding, the solution for us was.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: I would pump. but he would pull from the fridge a previously pumped bottle. So he would get up in the middle of the night.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: He would feed the baby. With both children, we did this. you know feed the baby i would go and pump by the time he was done

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: you know, feeding burping changing and putting back to bed he's coming in making sure do you need a snack before you go back to bed.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: You know, I'm finishing everything up.

Katie Higgins: Oh wow.

Em: We both go to bed. We're both on the same page. When it came time, we were a cry it out family.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: I know there's a lot.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: different opinions on that, but we were. Um,

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: And mostly, ah Justin was. I am horrible. at cry it out even to this day. I'm the biggest pushover to my children and dog.

Katie Higgins: okay

Em: and

Katie Higgins: I'm the same. i couldn't I could never do it. Yeah.

Em: You know, he would send me to go take a shower at the end of the day when it was time to put O in bed.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: Why don't you go take a shower, Emily? I'm going to go ahead and put Owen to bed. And by the time he was out of the shower,

Katie Higgins: yes

Em: I hadn't heard any of the crying, right?

Katie Higgins: Yeah. ah There you go. There you go. Yeah.

Em: Bye. What we know from the Lindsay Clancy trial is Patrick was not a hands -on dad. Good night.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: capacity. What?

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: and health. neighbor, like how can we as a nation Right?

Katie Higgins: right

Em: if There is some sort of campaign. Hey! you Because it's like you see something, say something kind of thing. Right.

Katie Higgins: Right, right, right. Yes.

Em: Why can't we have that?

Katie Higgins: Well, and do you know what I've heard? Um, I saw this on, um, and also, and I, I, I, I have had Steven is, was always a hands -on dad. always and um it's, it's no, like I always could go to him and say,

Katie Higgins: this is your kid too. You know, and that because that was never, that was never even an issue is my, is really.

Em: yeah because that's and watch their own children.

Katie Higgins: Exactly. There's no there's no babysitting when you're a dad or a mom like they are your kids. And. um And I'm very lucky that Steven was the same that I. He didn't feel that way. um I did just see a thing that said,

Katie Higgins: Um, Oh. actual, like if we could. get this out there i don't think it would be legislation but like something a clancy call And if a mom and also because the shame is so heavy, like you were talking about, because the shame is so.

Katie Higgins: Heavy. Um, And that is something that I can speak to because I had those scary thoughts. um about me definitely ive i definitely i for sure that's that's easier to say that i had suicidal ideation

Em: Mm -hmm.

Katie Higgins: um I now my thoughts about any type of harm. They were different because I have OCD. but They were still there. And I was.

Katie Higgins: tear Whoa, it was just a huge crash. I know. um Hey Merrick, can you go see you? what's going on or mags um

Em: and

Katie Higgins: I know something just like. literally just massively crashed and i'm like I'm like I don't know what this is Um. it is It is so scary and shameful.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: And. you really are terrified they're going to take your kids from you. And while you also know. that being separated from your children might be the right thing It's so...

Katie Higgins: scary. And. I... luckily was able to eventually because they the thought scared me so much and I I had two different situations at two different times two different like mental health crises but um I was able to verbalize and be safe and be. um taken care of.

Katie Higgins: But. a lot of women will not also have that same family environment that I had. And so. To be able to say, I need to make a Clancy call. Or i i'm I'm calling.

Katie Higgins: ah I'm raising i'm raising the my hand.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: It's i'm like, hey, Dr. OB -GYN that just birthed my child. yesterday or four months from now, whatever. um I, claim I need to make a Clancy call.

Katie Higgins: And then they know. And then you don't have to. Because the hardest part. is saying it.

Em: Right.

Katie Higgins: I'm having these very scary thoughts.

Em: Yes.

Katie Higgins: Like. But if you could say it like that, I i need to make a Clancy call. It's like that puts it in motion. and then you can get to a safe, comfortable place where it's already in motion.

Em: Right.

Katie Higgins: to say, these were the thoughts I'm, or these are the thoughts I'm having, et cetera. But it would get it started without. The shame.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: And I thought that is. Actually. And on the Oprah thing, they say maybe there'll be a Lindsay Law or something like that. But I like Clancy because it honors the children.

Katie Higgins: Um, but a Clancy call and like, and then that's it puts it into motion and you don't have to detail it Yet. Because that.

Katie Higgins: You know, people kept saying, well, why didn't she, you know, she she didn't get. the official the help she needed because she didn't have a plan. That girl didn't know she she was too sick to even know she had a plan is what I is my take. It's my take. I obviously am not the doctor. I don't know her or whatever, but just from watching the trial.

Katie Higgins: She didn't even know. I don't think she... could process whether she had a plan or not. I think she was so sick. she 8. And also, here's what this woman's a nurse. she's She was extremely successful. To her, a plan may have been like, Justin, like here's my plan.

Em: Right.

Katie Higgins: whereas And when they asked me if I had a plan, I was like, uh -huh, this is what I'm going to do. You know, like. Like... It - with with my own suicidal ideation.

Em: right

Katie Higgins: But like, so she may be. didn't you know, like that, that verbiage is so. is So... um Ambiguous. Like.

Em: Yes.

Katie Higgins: Like, do I have a plan? Like I'm gonna do it today at 1 p .m.? No. Like. you know like did she so i that part has bothered me through the trial like I don't think she knew if she had a plan, you know, or I didn't, I don't think she knew up from down.

Katie Higgins: um Again, just my take. but um So I thought that was really cool. A Clancy call. or because it removes that shame.

Em: Yeah.

Em: Yeah. And I think.

Katie Higgins: You know?

Em: You know, historically, we look at how far we have come for our veterans. You know, it used to be what?

Katie Higgins: Ooh.

Em: bat hi Then we had Shellshock.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: Then it went to, we finally or I'm sure there was something else I'm forgetting, but then we now have PTSD. for a

Katie Higgins: Oh. Okay, okay

Em: and And in World War II, Patton gets in big trouble. He slaps somebody in a medical tent who was there for a shell shock. And he has to out, ah he has to now go out publicly and apologize for this because he basically says, I don't want some yellow bellied soldier in with the men, real men who got hurt.

Em: Right. and So then he has to actually like he is. i think it was Maybe Ike, who calls him in. to publicly apologize for his behavior.

Katie Higgins: This is incredible. Your history knowledge is so fantastic.

Em: Awesome. I, um, low -key I have a crush on General George Patton. okay

Katie Higgins: Okay. Okay.

Em: Fun fact.

Katie Higgins: Oh, no. Listen.

Em: Okay, look at it.

Katie Higgins: this might need to become a segment this might need to become a segment

Em: number um But so I've seen that the George C. Scott. movie a million times. and Anytime I have to go in and do a hard thing, I've watched the opening credits where he gives this most amazing speech.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: I highly recommend it to people. If you have to go.

Katie Higgins: Okay, okay.

Em: to Do a hard thing. The George C. Scott opening credits of Patton. I used to be able to recite it by heart.

Katie Higgins: i need to Okay, I got to watch this.

Em: it's that

Katie Higgins: I got to watch this.

Em: But you have. over this the span between world war one to finally now and i think The, the. VA could probably do a lot better in supporting our veterans in their mental health crises, but.

Em: We now recognize PTSD. Right. And with no like.

Katie Higgins: Sure.

Em: to be aware of this for our veterans. Moving on from Baby Blues.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: Right? Because even when I had Owen, it was, oh, do you have a case of the baby blues?

Katie Higgins: Ah yes.

Em: Right, like let's belittle.

Katie Higgins: mm -hmm

Em: and and and make

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: tiny. All of these things. to I think it's a little bit more than baby blues. I think.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: I think it's a little bit more.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: I'm not a doctor, but I can tell you I feel like I'm drowning. And.

Katie Higgins: Exactly.

Em: not good at this and I'm going to kill my baby because I didn't get him the owl sock and Like, don't know if I burped them correctly.

Katie Higgins: Uh -huh. Yeah. Right?

Em: Is poop supposed to be this color and all of the things.

Katie Higgins: Right.

Em: I think it's more than baby blues.

Katie Higgins: It's, it's yeah.

Em: So now we have postpartum depression.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: Now come to find out there's postpartum psychosis, which wasn't even on a radar for me. between both of my children. like I didn't know. That was a diagnosis.

Katie Higgins: Right.

Em: There was a more severe version. of postpartum depression.

Katie Higgins: ah huh Okay.

Em: So. If we can get. the medical community to recognize and then communicate that. to

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: the people to the communities. Bit. It's more than shell shock, right? It's more than just.

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: bow Not, oh, you're just worn out from hearing artillery fire.

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: This is a real... thing happening. in your body.

Katie Higgins: In your mind. Yeah. Yeah.

Em: And your brain and your emotions and your hormones and your cortisol and your adrenal levels, everything is trying to make sense of this.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: And you are failing because this is hard. This is unmanageable and biologically.

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: You are now stuck in this fight or flight that is. is essentially killing you. Because it's.

Katie Higgins: Yes.

Em: trying to save you but Everything is so unknown and unsupported.

Katie Higgins: I, yes.

Em: So.

Katie Higgins: I... couldn't agree more. it really being stuck in that fight or flight. does not get Enough. Attention.

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: End. I think it's. uh, a lot more serious than Well obviously. With. with veterans and with Mothers.

Katie Higgins: that have given birth like it's those are two extremely

Em: Mm hmm.

Katie Higgins: Okay. stressful situations. And where, yeah, you are immediately thrown into. um Fight or flight. And... i don't think i'm I don't think I'm phrasing that correctly, but...

Katie Higgins: being stuck in fight or flight is not where our bodies were meant to be. Those were meant to be just. A response it is exactly.

Em: Is the lion killing me today or not?

Katie Higgins: Am I running from a bear? you know. And. being stuck in fire flight can really. Well I It has. brought us to Our 40s. Where?

Katie Higgins: Because i i I guarantee I've been stuck in fight or flight. For years, years, years, years, years. And... um, And elder millennials, you know, listen, i do I do love an elder millennial. And, you know, we did. We we lived through 9 -11. We were parents through COVID.

Katie Higgins: Um, And. We. and we We grew up at a time

Em: We've done all the unprecedented events. every year.

Katie Higgins: Exactly. Like I'm really, like like all the memes, I'm really tired of it.

Em: Yeah, the new one.

Katie Higgins: I'm really tired of it.

Em: for the Doomsday Glacier. and that's That's our new one at our house, an AI.

Katie Higgins: Oh.

Em: um Did you read the AI article that came out this week?

Katie Higgins: Well. Okay. No, I really try not to read those because I love AI so much.

Em: come Probably don't.

Katie Higgins: so

Em: four times so

Katie Higgins: Oh gosh, well.

Em: So yeah.

Katie Higgins: I'm um I'm probably not doing...

Em: We'll save that for next time. wink.

Katie Higgins: Yeah, we'll save that for next week because I guarantee I'm somebody's. I'm on somebody's petty list because I love it. Listen, chat is quickly becoming. a good friend of mine and i probably need to

Em: Now I will say, so I have a love -hate relationship with chat.

Katie Higgins: hey

Em: But I do.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: Who was it this last week? Sophie, we love her. um old

Katie Higgins: Yes, lover, lover.

Em: Yeah. With. her math class. I think.

Katie Higgins: Ah, yes.

Em: Very common thing that I know a lot of us are dealing with is. um math. And... Sixth grade math was...

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: changing and i used it she was um she couldn't keep straight all the formulas to find area of a triangle, a parallelogram, a trapezoid.

Katie Higgins: Okay. Yeah.

Em: When you...

Katie Higgins: Definitely, I can't.

Em: We fed it in to Suna, which is the songwriting one. It will write songs for you.

Katie Higgins: Okay. Okay.

Em: So we typed it all in. And then in the style of K -pop. came out with some bangers.

Katie Higgins: I mean...

Em: Did we, so she now knows all three of those by heart, including a full choreographed dance to it. So, I mean, I think in some instances, AI is a great thing.

Em: i think

Katie Higgins: ah it It really is. It really is.

Em: It really... is... going to destroy us all. But... In more like a, a I feel like more in a WALL -E sense. We are going to be destroyed.

Katie Higgins: Yes, I...

Em: Night.

Katie Higgins: Uh -huh.

Em: Continue to critically think. Yeah.

Katie Higgins: I... wally is wow so uh listen disney always coming in with the

Em: Yes.

Katie Higgins: with the ah

Em: just Justin didn't say it's gonna be more like Terminator 2, but I'm gonna stay in the WALL -E world for right now.

Katie Higgins: where we just float around and have our milkshakes. Listen.

Em: Yeah. Yeah.

Katie Higgins: I...

Em: Give me an iPhone.

Katie Higgins: I... ah Seriously, you just. Oh, well, I... Uh...

Em: We've covered.

Katie Higgins: I'd say on that note.

Em: one

Katie Higgins: Do what?

Em: We've covered a lot of ground today

Katie Higgins: I'd say we've had a lot of thoughts today. We have had a lot of thoughts. So anything else you want to leave us with before? We.

Em: Everybody moment of the week for me.

Katie Higgins: uh Okay.

Em: And... um traffic inside the grocery store.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: Everybody should stay to the right side. you should cloak traffic laws inside the grocery store.

Katie Higgins: ah

Em: That's my petty Betty.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: week.

Katie Higgins: There you go. I try my hardest to not go into a grocery store. So I'm going to stay out of your way because I guarantee I'm not one that probably does it right. Because I just hate it.

Em: Stay to the right.

Katie Higgins: State of the right. it's not Okay, you know what? That's not hard.

Em: no

Katie Higgins: That's not hard.

Em: Kirk briefly, grab what you need from the opposite side.

Katie Higgins: Yep.

Em: and Exit the the aisle.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: Not difficult.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: Stay to the right.

Katie Higgins: Yeah. I, I...

Em: And. your card. sleep I think is a. given. Right.

Katie Higgins: Move the cart along. Is that what you said?

Em: not like When you're done. Put your cart. back in the stall.

Katie Higgins: Oh! Yes, I do like Aldi for that reason.

Em: But I feel like...

Katie Higgins: because it forces you to to do that. So I do like that. i And I think.

Em: You have a penny.

Katie Higgins: i do Well, it's... it's um Yeah. This is so bad of me to say. but I'm going to say it.

Em: We'll see you then.

Katie Higgins: it's ah It's, it's, matt it's true it's the it's. It's the MAGA. Like. the in the the racism you know, in the, um,

Katie Higgins: I just... Ah. It. And this is, again, like we talked about this on our very first episode when we were kind of introducing ourselves. So go back and listen if you want, if you didn't hear that and you want to know more, but like.

Katie Higgins: I was a Republican. I did vote for Trump. And so I... Ah! I am definitely in the camp now that's like, hey, listen. I get it. Some of us really liked the idea that he wasn't Political.

Katie Higgins: that He was coming in and shaking things up. that he was a businessman. And then... Guess what? It didn't work. Okay? And now. He is...

Katie Higgins: is shown. ah you know A lot of people would have said at the very beginning that he had already shown all his true colors. I didn't. I didn't see them at that time. And...

Katie Higgins: I... And but now. There is not a color left to be shown! And so I don't say that as someone who is has been a card carrying Democrat. I say that as someone who has been a I was a card carrying Republican.

Katie Higgins: who is like, ah But also, this is not the Republican Party that I grew up in.

Em: Right.

Katie Higgins: It's not. And so. um And I just, I, cause my petty is the hate. I hate, I hate the hate. I hate it. And that is my, that is my petty Betty moment of the week, which is.

Katie Higgins: maybe not so petty, but um

Em: I don't think it's petty. I think it's honest.

Katie Higgins: It's... It's honest.

Em: i'm

Katie Higgins: And yeah.

Em: i Saved that this morning, it came across my TikTok. Um,

Katie Higgins: Okay. Yes.

Em: cradle catholic and this person um Born to post, forced to work. is their name um he's like i'm a cradle catholic and he lists all of these things but the one he ends with, which...

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Em: um as the Catholic does ring very true. um he went to a Catholic grade school. So he's talking about all the things that they made, the priest um and theology made all these things very clear to him.

Katie Higgins: Okay.

Em: And the final one was they made it clear that when we go to heaven. St. Peter was going to ask how we treated others. Not how. Often or obsessively, we read our Bibles.

Katie Higgins: Interesting.

Em: And I think... You know, with Tallarico, it's the same thing. It's how are we treating them? Are we being Christ -like?

Katie Higgins: Yeah. Exactly.

Em: Not. You got to put the Ten Commandments up.

Katie Higgins: Mhm.

Em: You gotta, you know. I don't know. Good night.

Katie Higgins: well and if you I'm sorry, but if you put the Ten Commandments up and then you turn around and you say hateful things.

Em: Great.

Katie Higgins: about other human beings just because They don't look like you. Sorry. That's not Jesus. Actually.

Em: or pray like you.

Katie Higgins: That's...

Em: or

Katie Higgins: Or if they, yeah.

Em: Now.

Katie Higgins: um Jesus actually literally... ah you know He talked about the the men that babble. while they pray, just because it makes them You don't look...

Em: More.

Katie Higgins: Look. Prominent

Em: Zealous. Yeah. and

Katie Higgins: Yes, like he he specifically spoke against that.

Em: Ow!

Em: Mm -hmm.

Katie Higgins: And so um

Em: He's the one that gets up at the lunch table and goes and sits with the weird kids.

Katie Higgins: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: Exactly. Exactly. And if you can't love

Em: we need more people like that

Katie Higgins: Yes, and and you love the weird kids. to you know, as a, like, Well, that's not bringing people. That's telling them that we accept. would No, you love people to Jesus. You do not.

Katie Higgins: um, hit them over a head with an American flag.

Em: Okay.

Em: You don't shame.

Katie Higgins: um

Em: You don't hate them.

Katie Higgins: You don't shame them. Hello, we just talked about shame for...

Em: Yeah.

Katie Higgins: you know, now four weeks, like the being shamed.

Em: Brittany Brown Collins.

Katie Higgins: Yes, exactly, exactly. so Um, Well, with that. shall we Shall we sign off?

Em: I think so. Thanks guys for hanging in there to all of our thoughts.

Katie Higgins: I know. We still have so many thoughts. We probably, listen, you just. so if a bird flies by, I'll come up with a new thought that I could. go on for hours with, but vote.

Em: I didn't follow it from him.

Katie Higgins: We shall, we shall leave y 'all there. So, um, cheers, you guys follow us on Instagram at we have thoughts pod. Um, and Oh, also stay tuned. We've got some cool Enneagram stuff. that possibly will be coming up so very excited for that so uh that's it bye guys
