Sarah-Daye McDougall: On this episode of Bookwatch's Adaptation Report, the Wizarding World is making headlines with new casting for HBO's show Ant on the stage. And in other young adult fiction, we have a first look at what's coming up for.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Percy Jackson season three. We've also got trailers, first looks and news. for everything from Verity and Warrior Cats to Dungeon Crawler Carl and Dan Brown's The Secret of Secrets. And the adaptation pipeline keeps growing with new projects from Anna Todd, Alan Levi, Grady Hendrix, Catherine Center, and Tom Wolfe heading to the screen.

Sarah-Daye McDougall: All right. Welcome back, listeners. um Do we want to start with what we're all... reading and watching. or have read and watched this past month.
Chris: Go right ahead. Get started.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Oh boy. I didn't prepare for this. I did not read. My book club book, i we were reading Strangers. I can't even tell you who it's by. I forget, but I read like a chapter and then. I DNF'd it.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Um, It was. written well, but it just felt like. A little tone deaf -y. And I just was not interested. Um,
Sarah-Daye McDougall: And then I'm on book two of Dungeon Crawler. Carl. And I'm.
Chris: exciting
Sarah-Daye McDougall: having a lot of fun with that. and um I'm struggling to put that one down to read books that we need to read for the podcast or other books that I'm supposed to read for.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: book club or other personal books because it's been a lot of fun and you know it's coming out with a show. And so I'm just having fun. getting through, I don't know, eight books.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Right?
Chris: So far.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Yeah. And he said, I think he said he's going to do 10 of them.
Chris: Yeah.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: So.
Chris: we have a schedule let's go we'll just make it this is now a dungeon color carl podcast
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Yep. um i i I need to look and see if there's any good podcasts for the books because it is definitely a lot of fun. um And then watching, um still just doing Silo, which is a book adaptation. And then Ted Lasso has returned.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: And then... i think that's it for watching i'm trying to decide if i want to do any rewatches for Endgame Encore slash Doomsday coming out at the end of the year.
Chris: I feel like you at least have to do Infinity War like right before because, you know, it's.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: right i will do well i will do infinity war before i go see endgame encore but
Chris: Kind of a two -parter, so.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: They released a list ah and it includes like X -Men, X -Men 2. And I have to decide if I want to. go down that road or not but i probably will let's be honest
Chris: I... Yeah. Reading.
Chris: You know, I think I've just been reading old books again, you know, rereading some things I reread. Ready Player One again, just my comfort read for the year. I got another another lap of that in, and as I was telling you guys...
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Mm hmm.
Chris: in text i've i've started ready player two just because i got to get that done too I read a few more. Uh, Isaac Asimov books, I caught up on The End of Eternity and ah Robot Empire, which were two that ah in the.
Chris: overarching foundation and robot series that he has that are loosely connected, at least the end of eternity. And then the. robots and empire is one that leads to connecting the things together so i still have not watched much of the foundation tv show i started it but it had some pretty big changes towards the beginning that just kind of
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Hmm.
Chris: turned me off to it a little bit, but I probably should get back to that one because I think it is going to be pretty good. it's just It's heavy.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: We've... We've watched the show but We haven't read the books, so.
Chris: okay
Sarah-Daye McDougall: i can vouch for it being a good show i can't vouch for it being a good adaptation
Chris: Yeah.
Chris: yeah they just they killed the awesome characters pretty early on that i was like ah that character was throughout the whole thing and like you know they just they and the the way they get where they were going in the first few episodes was just like oh that wasn't right so
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Oh. Interesting.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Hmm.
Chris: Um, Yeah, it was definitely. um something i'll go back to uh watching i'm watching uh reacher right now which is i haven't read the book of the current one and he's definitely jumped around a bit with which ones they're doing but i'm really enjoying the show i love
Sarah-Daye McDougall: oh
Chris: the way Alan Richardson plays that character. So. I'm enjoying that a lot. It's coming out weekly. so i'm going to be following that one for the next couple probably the next month i think here while they finish it up
Sarah-Daye McDougall: You're muted.

Jordyn: Uh, my book club is still going through our sarah j maas reread It's been really hype in that group chat with the announcement of the titles of the two new books that we're getting. And there's all the tinfoil hat theories going around. um So this week, we just finished Quarter Silver Flames.
Jordyn: And then I'm in a second book club that is going through. um the assistant to the villain series so We just finished book two of that.
Jordyn: And book four just came out like a couple of weeks ago. So we're going to do three and four and then surprise, there's going to be a fifth book. So we got to wait for that fifth book to come out before we can finish it. But and yeah, just living my best fantasy life over here. I reread um Percy Jackson three, the Titans curse.
Jordyn: um just I'll reread it again closer to when the show comes out because they're they're pretty short quick reads especially when you've read them
Sarah-Daye McDougall: mm -hmm
Jordyn: a dozen times already. It's more mostly just skimming and refreshing. the details but that one is so good and it is really like the The Goblet of Fire. of the Percy Jackson series, we're like, oh, it gets real now. um So I'm really excited to see that one come to screen for the first time.
Chris: Yeah, it's gonna be a lot of fun. When's that come out again? That's December? or November.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: November?
Jordyn: November. Yeah, so it comes out on like the Wednesday and then the release of Sunrise on the Reaping is like that Thursday.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: And just a reminder to our listeners, we are going to be trying an episodic.
Jordyn: That week.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: coverage of Percy Jackson and Harry Potter. So based on the schedule. I don't think we really know what the Harry Potter schedule is going to look like yet, but we're going to try to record weekly.

Sarah-Daye McDougall: All right. So things that are coming out adaptations. in the upcoming month we have the sequel to practical magic which is based on the book of magic The follow -up to Alice Hoffman's original Practical Magic novel. The film hits theaters September 11th with Nicole Kidman.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Sandra Bullock, Stockard Channing, and Diane Wiest returning and adding Joey King and Maisie Williams as Sally's daughters. We also have...
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Ali Hazelwood's best -selling STEM romance coming to Prime Video on September 23rd starring Lily Reinhart and Tom Bateman. The film follows PhD candidate Olive Smith who enters a fake dating arrangement with intimidating professor Adam Carlson only to find their pretend relationship becoming something much more complicated.
Chris: STEM romance. Never heard of that before. That's interesting.
Jordyn: It's just a workplace romance. But do you guys know all the lore about? This one about lessons in chemistry.
Chris: well
Sarah-Daye McDougall: is like Is it supposed to have copied lessons in chemistry?
Chris: This isn't
Jordyn: No, this This is lessons in chemistry, isn't it? No?
Sarah-Daye McDougall: No.
Chris: Nope.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Lessons in Chemistry was on Apple TV. Adaptation.
Chris: And it's by someone else.
Jordyn: oh
Sarah-Daye McDougall: it's about yeah this is um
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Oh, did I not write? This is the love hypothesis.
Jordyn: Oh my bad, I'm so sorry.
Chris: This is the one you're going to try and go see, you're saying.
Jordyn: Yes. Yeah. Okay. So.
Chris: With the author.
Jordyn: Bill. Do you guys know the love hypothesis lore?
Chris: no
Jordyn: Okay. For my. millennial friends here so the the lore with this story is that it's actually based on a Rey Skywalker, Kylo Ren fanfiction.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: oh
Jordyn: um And so. And the lead actor, Tom Bateman, is actually the husband of Daisy Ridley, who played Ray.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: ah
Jordyn: So that's that's the lores that she like people think that like daisy really was kind of behind the scenes like she knew that it was a raylo fic originally or like the you know aspects of the main characters personalities were based on rey and kylo and so she kind of like help maneuver to get her husband in there and so it's just of a fun little you know, situation, how it how it all worked out, where, you know.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Okay, fun.
Jordyn: Ray's real life husband. gets to play the Kylo in the Rey Kylo.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Yeah.
Jordyn: alternate universe story.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: You know, I might have seen something about that because I do remember seeing that this man was her husband.
Chris: interesting
Sarah-Daye McDougall: But I think I just like kept. swiping up but didn't spend too much time on it.
Jordyn: Yeah.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: um but we aren't covering. I'm sure we're all going to see Practical Magic, but I don't think we're covering either of these on the podcast as of yet. So listeners, if you want us to cover these projects, please let us know. And we will read them. I haven't read.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: The love hypothesis. But I might be watching it because. Every - Every chick. or Man. chris you can chime in needs a good rom -com every once in a while so I might watch it

Sarah-Daye McDougall: um Any other comments on these two before we move on to... Adaptation updates.
Chris: I'm not. overly sure how what to expect from the practical magic one but i think it's going to be fun like the first one i mean I... was the um voice of this is not the way the book went with the uh first one so i have not read this one yet so maybe i'll watch the film first before i go read the book
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Hmm.
Chris: Try not to ruin the film for myself first.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: And they changed a bit of the first Practical Magic. So it'll be interesting to see how they... what they bring from the second book, yeah, and how they make it work.
Chris: Nothing is follow through, oh yeah.
Chris: definitely
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Okay, moving on to updates. The Wizarding World has had a busy month with Kit Harington reportedly replacing Nicholas Holt as Gilderoy Lockhart. There is some potential drama in that.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Decision with nicholas getting a lot of backlash and then blaming it on scheduling issues but kit has also gotten the same backlash however he's already been gilderoy for the full cast audio production so I think he might be.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: a bit more attached to the character.
Chris: I feel like that'll happen really quickly
Sarah-Daye McDougall: And. It did.
Chris: Like.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: It happened all within a week of of each other.
Chris: He was. Yeah.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: And I think that um I also read and take this with a grain of salt because it wasn't from one of the trades, but.
Chris: is That classy. You're blushing.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: They. And now it's Nicholas Holtz. casting earlier than they intended because it got leaked so they got they tried to get ahead of it so i don't know if it was the backlash or if his schedule really or if it's kind of like ah a joint decision.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: You know, and we'll never know that. Meanwhile, over on the stage, Rupert Grint is set to return as... Ronald Weasley in the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway. And Tom Felton has also extended his run as Draco Malfoy.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: So... I have no interest in seeing The Cursed Child on Broadway, but it is fun to see. like You could have the chance to see both Rupert and Tom Felton. I don't know if they're going to be – I don't know what the schedules are if Tom's end.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: is before Rupert begins or not, but to see. The potential to see both of them on stage in a Harry Potter project would be really cool.
Jordyn: Yeah.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: um But I don't think I have any. more to really add to this. um I think. you know all the controversy around the the show is going to continue um Throughout, it's probably eight season run. um And I don't know why I don't see as much on Broadway about the Broadway show as I do the HBO show. um But.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Yeah, Harry Potter's just in this really weird spot right now. and we're going to keep seeing news that we're going to keep seeing a lot of backlash about it. And so it's going to be interesting to see which actors take on these roles moving forward.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: and which will pass.
Jordyn: ye
Jordyn: I... read the harry potter and the cursed child like they did like a book for it um you know with the script and everything and i immediately was like this is garbage i'm not participating in this because it.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: everybody was
Jordyn: i Yeah, I think pretty much everybody. you know was like this is not none of this makes any sense this is real this is all weird like So I really like don't. Care about it? except for like
Jordyn: I think it's interesting the reaction to Tom, the reaction to Tom Felton coming back. What I was seeing in my little corner of the Internet was a lot of people like kind of making fun of him that like, oh, he he hasn't done anything else. And so like he's starting to run out of money, like he has to come back to being Draco Malfoy. And they kind of were like.
Jordyn: making fun of him and it kind of I mean, people were saying that like oh it's kind of pathetic that he's coming back and doing Draco again. like when But like for Rupert Grint, it's mostly been people like, oh my gosh, I can't believe Rupert Grint is back as Raw. It's so exciting. And so like the difference in reaction for these two guys. like both doing the same thing, I think is interesting.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Yeah.
Jordyn: um But yeah, I. I would like to see it on stage simply because I appreciate. stage performance and I have not really had um as much opportunity to see stage performances and like I'm kind of growing up and being like i would love to see hamilton i'd love to see wicked and i haven't really been able to see anything like that so like if I had the opportunity I would take it but I would be sitting there the whole time like
Jordyn: this is really cool. And like, I loved stage artistry and production and like acting on a stage. Like it's different than a movie and like. you know, artistically appreciating it while also being like the story sucks And then.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Yeah.
Jordyn: As for Kit Harington, Nicholas Hull, I haven't listened to. Chamber of Secrets or beyond in the full cast audio so I don't know how Kit Harington is like doing the voice of Gilderoy but he looks so different from Kenneth Branagh that I'm like that is not computing in my brain. But like it's Kit Harington, so like it'll be fine.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: As far as...
Chris: Ironically, he's probably are the same age.
Jordyn: Right.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: And as far as the looks go.
Jordyn: just like the blonde and the black hair I'm like I can't it doesn't make sense to me
Sarah-Daye McDougall: And I'm don't know that he necessarily needs to be blonde. I could see Nick Nicole
Jordyn: No.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: changing his hair to blonde. I mean, wasn't he blonde in Superman? Or he's been blonde in something.
Jordyn: Yeah.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Or I guess he was bald in Superman. Anyway. um But I was very thrown off. With Nicholas Holt being cast as Lockhart. And i've I was never a fan of.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: As a kid, I don't think I cared. But as an adult, I'm not a fan of. Kenneth Branagh being Lockhart because I'm just not attracted to him and he's supposed to be the most attractive man. in all of the wizarding world and I also I was like okay I'll wait to see how Nicholas Holt does it And then...
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Kit. was cast and again he he doesn't really look like the typical lockhart but it's also kit harrington who is much more attractive in a scruffy sort of way.
Jordyn: mm -hmm
Sarah-Daye McDougall: So I'm really anxious to see what how they're going to do his. design. He was a great Lockhart. in the audio book, you totally forget that it's Kit Harington. It doesn't sound like him at all. Like it's not Jon Snow in any way, shape or form. It's definitely Lockhart. Now he did say.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: He's not going to perform the acting the way he did in the audiobook. So I want to know what that means.
Jordyn: Sure.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: is he Does he just mean like he's adding more because now it's a visual in addition to the audio? Because I really did like his accent and the way he portrayed the voice.
Jordyn: Yeah.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: So I'm excited for that.
Jordyn: I was going to say it would probably be you. less because like with audio there's no facial expression and so everything that you're trying to express has to come through your voice and the tone and the speed like all of those things so if anything he could kind of like
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Mmm.
Jordyn: pull back and like normalize his voice because he also can do things with his face and his body because it's a visual medium.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Mm hmm.
Jordyn: So it probably is just going to be like. a wonderful balance between the two, hopefully.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Yes.
Chris: I think that, like you were saying, Jordan, with the stage acting thing for The Cursed Child, I think that... it honestly is a great opportunity for both Tom Felton and and um ripper grint to get into like to get on stage and it it is a different form of acting that can actually help reignite that ah love of acting sometimes for for actors. That's why a lot of them do that after like a long TV show. um like
Chris: the Grant Gustin, who did The Flash, went back to that for a while because he needed to get away from the TV show mentality and get into something that could reignite that passion so he could go do other projects.
Jordyn: mm -hmm
Chris: And I hear that a lot.
Jordyn: Yeah.
Chris: So I can see it just being ah a chance to do something that they haven't done in a while or haven't done before.
Jordyn: Yeah.
Chris: Um, As far as the Kit Harington thing, I still think my suggestion of him playing Nearly Headless Nick would be way better. you know He could bring that Jon Snow energy and yeah have some fun with it.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: I actually thought he would be a great serious black, but.
Chris: but
Sarah-Daye McDougall: I guess we're we're past that.
Chris: Yeah, actually true.
Jordyn: Yeah.
Chris: Yeah. So we can move on though. Yeah. I just wanted to mention that about the acting part on the stage.
Jordyn: Yeah, for sure.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Colleen Hoover's best -selling psychological thriller Verity hits the big screen next month. A new trailer gave fans their first extended look at Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett as Verity, Lohan, and Jeremy.
Chris: Cool, exciting.
Jordyn: Bye.
Chris: um I think that... I really should watch this the the trailer because I still know nothing about this story, really.
Jordyn: uh my friend asked me if i would go see this with her and i said yes um because I think we we may or may not be covering it here, but I kind of... I want to read it and see it and like. so form create my own opinion about Colleen Hoover because talking to my friend she was like Verity was like really good and like I want to see it but like every other book she's read by Colleen Hoover she's like it's just so bad like she's DNF'd and she's like had to force herself to finish so that she doesn't DNF.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Hmm.
Jordyn: um And so I'm like, okay, well. ah you know it's it's good input from the internet and close friends who you know read her books like I kind of need to start figuring things out for myself so if Verity is the best she's got then I feel like that's a good intro you know kind of play king of the hill and see if anything even comes close to it um so My friend wants to see it so I'll go see it with her and then if we cover it then you'll get all my thoughts there
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Well, I think it's just so different from her other books because this is more of a thriller and her other books are more – I think they still have – I've only read –
Chris: yeah
Sarah-Daye McDougall: It. Ends with us and it starts with us. Um, And I don't want to say that they're just your typical rom -com because there is some heavy stuff in those books, but it's still.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Light. um So I think that this is. A lot more. Like, I don't know a better word than thrilling. so um I am nervous to read it. um and watch it because i'm not a big like psychological thriller type person but If it's what our listeners want, I will do it for you.
Jordyn: ah If not, we can always just rewatch Twilight or something instead.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Hmm. It is, say it Jordan, what season?
Jordyn: Hoa, hoa, hoa season, baby. Let's go.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Disney has revealed our first look at Daphne Keene as Artemis and Sarah Chaudry as Zoe Nightshade. The Percy Jackson series moves into coverage of The Titan's Curse.
Jordyn: I'm so excited. um Everybody looks great. The costuming looks great. As usual, I mean, the show like has always done a great job with costuming and set design, I feel. um so This is very exciting to. see these characters for the first time. like in costume on set like in these photos with Percy and everybody like i'm
Jordyn: And especially having just reread it again, I'm so, so, so excited to get this. We've never had an adaptation of this book before. um we've had you know As you guys know, we've covered them. We've had the movies for one and two. And now going through the show, you know, we've had one and two, but we've never seen three. um And so the Titans curse is like. Such a great.
Jordyn: great story and there's so much that happens and so much set up for the rest of this series and so to get you know all these new gods coming in and you know these new characters i'm very very excited and these actresses look great and I just want it to be November so bad.
Chris: um I'm excited to see Daphne Key in this role. I like her a lot. so We'll see how it goes. And yeah, I'm excited for the rest of the... i series here going forward with these characters I think these actors will be great for that Entry into the series.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Matt Deniman announced that Chris Yost and Eric. Heisserer will serve as co -showrunners on the adaptation of his wildly popular lit RPG series, Dungeon Crawler Carl. Yost's credits include The Mandalorian, Thor Ragnarok,
Sarah-Daye McDougall: and star wars Rebels, while Heisner is best known for Arrival, Bird Box, and Netflix's Shadow and Bone. I'm very excited for these two to be co -show running it because.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: These titles... are such a good mix of what you need for a good dungeon crawler carl you've got the action the humor. the sci -fi fiction but also like arrival and bird box are also very mature and heavier themes.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: which Dungeon Crawler Carl does have like it's a very adult mature story, but also has a lot of heart and humor. So I think that this show Every time we hear more and more of casting and crew announcements, I'm just like, yes, this is in really good hands.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: The only concern I have is that it's on Peacock. And to be honest, I haven't seen a lot on that platform. so I want to go see some of the shows that Peacock has. I'm pretty sure I've got the free.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: level of Peacock. i don't I don't even know the last time I've tried to watch anything on Peacock. um Like would i I have preferred Amazon or Apple? Probably.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: for budget reasons, but... Again, I think it's in such good hands. I think Matt Dinaman is really doing a good job selecting. um these folks to and i think that he is selecting people that are like the books. And.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: want to do good by these books. So I'm i think this is good news i'm really looking forward to seeing what these guys can do
Chris: Yeah, that all seems like ah a... good mix of shows to follow. from the ragnarok uh definitely has the kind of Humor like you know a lot of the the kind of the jokes and stuff that they use in the show fit that.
Chris: that feeling.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Mm hmm.
Chris: but being able to accomplish like the Mandalorian style. Um, you know dynamic of uh the characters i think will fit the story the Um, I. Rebels obviously has its own.
Chris: Um, storytelling elements that are gonna be really cool to kind of pull from some of that experience I don't know much about the other ones the I didn't I don't think I've ever seen any of those but Um, Yeah, seems like a good place to start with ah jumping into this world.
Chris: And I hope they can get as far and all the way through this series if they're going to be doing it. That's the what I worry about with Peacock is will they actually get through?
Sarah-Daye McDougall: I know, me too.
Chris: the entire series or is it just going to get a couple seasons let me done
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Hope not. I hope they can do it all.
Jordyn: If I was an author with a big series like that, I would make that part of the contract is like, you guys are going to see this through. till the end.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: I don't know how much power they have in that.
Jordyn: or I know.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: The viewers aren't there.
Chris: Well.
Jordyn: i i I would try, I would really try though to, you know, like if it's not working, whatever, then like the rights immediately come back to me so I can go somewhere else and try to finish it somewhere else.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Yeah.
Chris: ah be able to continue it elsewhere.
Jordyn: like
Chris: yeah
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Yeah.
Jordyn: like just but leaving things like half done like That's a ah fear right now for Percy Jackson because like they haven't confirmed that season four and five are going to come out. And so it's like it's possible at this point that.
Jordyn: we get these three seasons and then that's it. And with the story is left hanging. And that's really terrifying as a fan. And so like, I. If any authors are listening, do your best to make sure that your stuff is going to get.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: Heh heh.
Jordyn: guaranteed completion or that you get the rights back so that you can complete it somewhere else.
Chris: Lock it in.
Jordyn: um
Sarah-Daye McDougall: I'm sure we will hear about Percy Jackson before November.

Jordyn: but seeing star wars rebels on here makes me really really excited star wars rebels is like in my opinion, a very underrated Star Wars property, but it's one of the best ah Star Wars properties, especially with animation.

Jordyn: And so to have one of the writers who has given us like so many great, great moments in that show, writing this show definitely makes me a lot more confident and a lot.

Jordyn: kittens like it's crazy crazy stuff but it's and it's so it's really intense actually like reflecting back on it like there's a lot going on in these books that are like for children

Now this is A lot different from the movie starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner because. He was the bodyguard in this movie. And in this book, an adaptation.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: um she is actually the bodyguard of a male actor. And from what I read. Jared. is his character.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: is having the bodyguard pretend to be his girlfriend when he goes home to his family. So there's a little's I think it's a little lighter in tone and mood um with one of those fake relationship tropes again.

Jordyn: Aw. Well, now I'm much more and interested in this because i I watched.

Jordyn: every single episode of supernatural and i was like jared padalecki doesn't really Give.

Jordyn: bodyguard vibe like he's not scary he's not like he's not kevin costner you know not that anybody is or should be but like he's i'm like that i don't know about that one chief but now that he's the like actor and this The female Leighton Meester is the bodyguard and it's. ah more of a rom -com and a you know.
Jordyn: all the tropes of a rom com and stuff i'm like okay. Now I see where where we're going with this, and now we're cooking. I was a little nervous, but now I'm like, okay. I'm on board.

Chris: i think tom hanks is just looking for any old man role now that can be you know kind of heartfelt and uh And endearing. So, you know, this is. Right up that alley of the things he's been doing. McMahon called Otto. He did the. ah The Mr. Rogers one. There's been a lot of these where he's just playing this older man. that you know, is beloved or whatever.

Sarah-Daye McDougall: So I'm going to, I'm back to the Google AI. The story follows Lynette. tarki Tarkington. a deeply paranoid survivor, when another member of the group misses a meeting, the women realize someone has discovered their group and is hunting them down to finish the job.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: The novel heavily references and subverts Classics 19. 70s and 1980s slasher films like Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: So this sounds like a really fun October. coverage.
Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Do we have any details on the... It's just getting writing right now, so it's probably next year or something.

Sarah-Daye McDougall: um And they acquired the rights in July. So I think we. This might be a you know a two -year thing.

Sarah-Daye McDougall: Okay, back to my script here. ah Last, we have Apple's adaptation of Tom Wolfe's classic novel, The Bonfire of Vanities, is no longer moving forward with the streamer.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: and is now being shopped elsewhere. The show Is still. Attached. To David E. Kelly. who is developing it, and Matt Reeves. attached to direct it.
Sarah-Daye McDougall: We just don't have a home.
Jordyn: Well, if Matt Reeves is involved, it's not surprising that there's some sort of delay or situation with it.
Chris: Interesting that Apple... passed on it now, though, or whatever happened there. So. We'll see where it ends up.
Jordyn: Hopefully, if this is having issues, then that frees up Matt Reeves to get to it. cracking on Batman 2.
