echo_blades: Mm-hmm.

echo_blades: What is happening, everybody? Welcome to another Triple T Podcast for Knife Makers. My name is Jared from Echo Blades, and as always, I have my very bestest buddy, Mr. Dennis Terrell from Terrell Knife Works, and we had a fabulous week this week.

echo_blades: Didn't we, sir?

Denis Tyrell: We did indeed have have a fabulous week. It's always fun having makers in the shop. um Yeah, I had a great time.

echo_blades: Yeah, same here, man. And I don't even know how to continue all the fun that we had because we are so wasted.

Denis Tyrell: I'm tired now, actually. I didn't i didn't sleep well last night. um Probably the first... No, I dropped Noah off this morning. so yeah, i don't know why i didn't sleep well last night, but...

Denis Tyrell: But the shop the house was nice and quiet today, so that part was nice. Yeah,

echo_blades: I could imagine. Yeah. You had a full house.

Denis Tyrell: yeah.

echo_blades: I had a freaking long late week, dude.

Denis Tyrell: yeah

echo_blades: I i think I work late. Wednesday, Thursday, pull a sneak surprise attack on Noah and grabbed him from the the airport. We did a covert undercover secret agent mission.

echo_blades: He was expecting Dennis and he got the freaking Mexican Express to come get him. So...

Denis Tyrell: You know that freaked him out a little bit because he's you know he doesn he doesn't handle change very well when it comes to travel.

echo_blades: Oh, I know. It was great.

Denis Tyrell: And you took him for a banana milkshake that didn't go over well.

echo_blades: Dude, I have no idea.

Denis Tyrell: What happened?

echo_blades: i think they substituted like the people that are normally there for like AI bots or something. Cause this is honest to God.

echo_blades: No lie. My entire life. I have never had a bad banana milkshake from there. And that was the very first time ever. there There's normally like you can't even use a straw because it's getting clumped up with big old pieces of banana.

echo_blades: And there was not a single nanner in this whole thing. I was devastated.

Denis Tyrell: It was powdered, powdered banana.

echo_blades: Well, it was a clear cup, which is never happens. Always in like a weird paper cup. Um, but yeah, it was a clear, uh, cup this time. And I could see like this weird, uh, gelatinous goo flavoring type additive on the top. And I'm like, I knew right away. i was like, oh, this isn't going to be good.

echo_blades: Um, so yeah, I was bummed and I think I'll, I'll have to go back to make sure that it's trash, but that would be devastating to me. Cause that's been the only consistent thing in my life.

Denis Tyrell: You should pull the owner aside and give him your feedback.

echo_blades: Yeah, I don't even know if it's the same guy. Like, everything was everything was different. the The menu had changed. Like, that's the one thing I liked about it. It's, you know, it was still older.

Denis Tyrell: And you were just there with Brent. Had you been there since then?

echo_blades: Probably, yeah. Probably a handful of times. Brent came in September, so. Yeah, for sure. This is is random. So I don't know. That was a bummer. That was probably the only bad thing that happened. um But yeah, it was just ah it was pretty much go, go, go for me anyways. So I was pretty exhausted last night myself.

Denis Tyrell: yeah but um if you live in a hole and you haven't listened to the podcast in a few episodes uh we had mr noah from nt out river forge and jayden from ah fox river blades um in the shop doing a folder class so that was awesome had to do some um accommodations because jaden's in a wheelchair which um I talked about it last week, moving stuff around with a winch and

echo_blades: Oh, dude, by the way, ladies and gentlemen, we took a ah assessment of this hook that kind of bent, bro.

echo_blades: I was overwhelmingly struck with anxiety seeing it was far more than just a little bent. Like I, I didn't suspect that it would have pulled out of the, the screw would have came out as far as it did. i mean, the little hook part definitely was bent, but yeah, that was suspect and super. Yeah.

echo_blades: Yeah. ah respect for even trying it, number one.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. like

echo_blades: And I'm so, I'm happy. Normally I want bad things to happen to you, but like that would have been devastating and I'm glad that it all went good and it got set up the way that it did. Cause that was looking suspect, dude.

echo_blades: Sketchy.

Denis Tyrell: Well, the difference is like the, the mill stand is higher than the table. So I was letting out, like it was less pressure on the cable. and I can watch it like so I was pretty confident it wasn't just gonna spontaneously you know let go unless the cable was moving and it didn't really move like it was only a little bit but today I welded i got a new a new one and I welded it closed so it was a full loop so it couldn't stretch um because I had to crank it up so it had to go up

echo_blades: don't know.

echo_blades: Oh, you put it back today?

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I put it back today.

echo_blades: Oh, wow.

Denis Tyrell: um So I had to go up like six or eight inches to get back on the stand. I had Logan help me like move the table and move the stand underneath while I was holding it.

Denis Tyrell: Like making sure it didn't do anything stupid like flip over forwards or something. But yeah, it went back on the stand, no problem. Didn't break anything.

echo_blades: Good. Nice.

Denis Tyrell: So yeah.

echo_blades: I'm happy for that. Cause like I said, I looked at that. I was like, Oh my goodness. That was a little little little sketchy.

Denis Tyrell: yeah i just remember moving that thing the very first time i got it with buddy and it took everything in us to get it on we moved it from the pallet onto a table and then moved it from the tip like a tabletop onto the stand and yeah i almost popped a hernia just moving that thing it's heavy like It's just awkward to hold.

Denis Tyrell: and it's at least as heavy as the as the lathe. um So, yeah, it's not fun.

echo_blades: It's weird because in my mind, I'm thinking of my my little Harbor Freight mill. And i don't think it's that much bigger. That thing was awkward as hell to kind of lug around.

echo_blades: But I definitely didn't have any issues with putting that thing in the back of my car and hauling it from the car to where it is.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, but it's a Harbor Freight Mill.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: I guess.

Denis Tyrell: I mean, well, the the the better the mill, the heavier it is.

echo_blades: I don't know.

echo_blades: Okay.

Denis Tyrell: Like, that's...

echo_blades: Yeah. I, even, even so though, like I can't, I'm not just having a hard time kind of differentiating the size.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: So it must've been substantially bigger.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. And the base, like the the base of the mill is like solid cast, like cast iron or steel. It's really heavy.

echo_blades: Gotcha. Okay. Yeah, well, yeah. the The hook that bent says he agrees.

Denis Tyrell: ah Yeah, and and every every time I move stuff around in the shop, I optimize it a little bit. I found a new home for the portaband. um

echo_blades: I told, I don't think I told you.

Denis Tyrell: What?

echo_blades: I don't think I told you. I don't even think I told you.

Denis Tyrell: What?

echo_blades: I was looking at where you put the portavan and I think I whispered

Denis Tyrell: Oh, that was temporary, but yes.

echo_blades: Oh, that's not the new home?

Denis Tyrell: no no that was the it's it's on top of the drill that was sitting on the drill press table yeah that was

echo_blades: Yeah. Yeah, which I thought was, I thought it was sweet. I thought, i was like, it was pretty damn genius where you put it to get it to the level that it needed to be.

Denis Tyrell: yeah yeah

echo_blades: And I was like, every now and again, a guy impresses me with his kindness, his thoughtfulness, and his resourcefulness. So I couldn't tell you that, obviously. But I guess I just did. Fuck.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, ah everything, we were trying to get everything at Jaden's height, like a height he could use. So that was the, so it was good thing i had a floor model drill press and I could drop the the table down and then clamp the port-a-band to it.

echo_blades: It was pretty crafty. It was pretty crafty, dude. I like that.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. No, i ended up I ended up taking the, when I had my my big thick swage block on, that big chunk of wood,

echo_blades: Classy and crafty. Uh-huh.

echo_blades: Gotcha.

Denis Tyrell: I stacked that up with like three more layers of two by fours and now have bolted the um um

Denis Tyrell: port-a-band to that. And I just took off. i use the Swage block once a year. So I'll just put it back on when I need to.

echo_blades: Gotcha.

Denis Tyrell: um

echo_blades: Oh,

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. So when, and I need it at first I was, I was actually, you I was all,

echo_blades: because it was on the welding table, huh?

Denis Tyrell: yeah Which fucking makes a mess and it's beside the oven and it gets all over and yeah, that pisses me off.

echo_blades: Yeah, yeah.

Denis Tyrell: um So yeah, I moved it and it's better. I was going to make a metal stand for it. I was all ready to do some fabricating today and then realized if I make a metal stand, it'll be super light. I'll go to push, like I won't be able to apply any pressure onto the saw. It's just going to fall over.

Denis Tyrell: So yeah, went with the thick, heavy wood stand.

echo_blades: Nice.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. But it was super fun having the guys in the shop. um Jaden is um wiser and cooler than his age.

Denis Tyrell: um he's I forget that that kid's 23, and he just came out with some just some zingers over the weekend. And just a really cool kid. down I call him a kid only because I'm...

Denis Tyrell: he's He's only a year older than my son. um But a great maker, um really down earth guy. You know, we it doesn't matter. It doesn't. It makes zero difference that he's in a wheelchair. He is. He does amazing stuff. So, but the you know.

Denis Tyrell: handicapped or whatever you want to call it or not amazing mark maker, regardless of any kind of, you know, limitations he might have. He's busting through those.

echo_blades: ah quite the contrary i think yeah i think it's a um uh a subtle flex on the rest of us because he operates as if there's yeah like i mean i was i to be honest with you man i had uh very little knowledge of him i didn't

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. yeah

echo_blades: I wasn't even following him prior to this weekend. he wasn't on my radar. So i i I didn't have any any expectations or anything. And, yeah, I can just echo everything that you said. Dude was hilarious, um knowledgeable, had a good sense of um very – what i admired the most was, his, you could tell the desire to learn, to use the time, appropriately, the gratefulness that he add he had for the gratitude i said for, for being there, want to take advantage of it. And, and just wheels are always turning, um, staying in locked in with the processes that you guys are doing. Um, so that, was that was really cool.

echo_blades: Uh, and they, both of them turned out, uh, some really cool, um, knives at the end.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I mean the lock up, the action on both knives is perfect. And both of them going to do a little bit more finish work on the knives when they go home. So I'm looking forward to seeing some final pictures um of them and maybe hopefully a little video or something of how those knives turned out. But yeah, they were, they look awesome.

Denis Tyrell: So yeah, it was super fun having them. um and jayden's wife uh evan is a sweetheart um so uh yeah it was it was great and so um i don't think we talked about it last week um and we certainly talked about it or you'll folks you'll hear it if you listen to hustle grind podcast that i was on with jayden uh that comes out the same today when this one comes out but uh

echo_blades: Mm-hmm.

Denis Tyrell: Noah had a little accident um last week and so busted his finger up in his press. So the big joke is that, you know, the but Jaden was going to help him have to help him throughout the course because he busted up his finger.

Denis Tyrell: um And even Jaden was making fun of him and calling him a cripple, which I thought was extra funny.

echo_blades: Hilarious.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: Yeah. It

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: was good.

Denis Tyrell: But yeah, it was a good time. It was a really good time. And I dropped off um Noah this morning. And I know um Jaden and his wife were heading out at around 2-ish today.

Denis Tyrell: So I'm assuming they got home just fine.

echo_blades: think it's tomorrow.

Denis Tyrell: No, it actually is today.

echo_blades: It is today.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, it was today.

echo_blades: Nice. Nice.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. But um yeah, it was good.

echo_blades: Yeah. And no Noah was one of my favorite people. So, uh, it was really awesome to see him, um, hang out. And, uh, So it's first time I've ever been in that kind of, well, it is.

echo_blades: Yeah. First time I've ever got to see Noah in action. All one, two, three, eight digits of him, you know?

echo_blades: No, he was a soldier too, though, man.

Denis Tyrell: Eight working digits.

echo_blades: Yeah, he was a soldier too.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: It was good times, man.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, sure was.

echo_blades: Absolutely good times.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. And we used the hell out of the Ameribraid grinder that was actually um took the casters off the Ameribraid to drop it down three inches for Jaden, but it worked out great. So if you guys need a versatile, awesome grinder, go check out Ameribraid.com.

Denis Tyrell: um Use the discount code TTT10 for 10% off like accessories is on the Fastback 2x72 or on the HyperDisk. And ah use TTT, just TTT for a discount on machines.

Denis Tyrell: Amazing guys, amazing customer service, and just fabulous machines. And, yeah, we put it through its paces.

echo_blades: Yeah, absolutely.

Denis Tyrell: Yep.

echo_blades: I had a little, uh, I don't have the, um, the drop away platen.

Denis Tyrell: Mm-hmm.

echo_blades: So I was grinding the knife a little bit and, i was putting pressure and it, it, it, it was in the giveaway, uh, condition and it scared the shit out of I was like, Oh,

Denis Tyrell: in the And you want it? Okay.

echo_blades: Because there's I was telling the guy there, too. There's there's many a times. i think we were talking about it one night, but Dennis has a tendency to run the grinder in two so two speeds only, either on at 100 And...

echo_blades: and ah very, very commonly he'll, you know, he'll tell me, no, don't be a pussy and you know put some effort into it. Lean into it. And, uh, and when that thing gave away, I was like, oops, I guess I broke it.

echo_blades: It took me a minute to to figure it.

Denis Tyrell: You thought you pushed so hard that you you dented the planet?

echo_blades: I, yeah, I'm, I'm a strong guy, dude. I mean, look at me. This is not, I'm peak male of the specimen here. Uh, but,

Denis Tyrell: Hey, b and me and Ryan Coakley like to run the grinders at full tilt and get some work done. I know he feels the same way.

echo_blades: Yeah. Yeah. I, yeah. Very rarely we mobile mind see full blast, full speed, whatever you want to say that it's, uh, that was funny though.

Denis Tyrell: only Only on, especially if I'm like profiling with an old beat up 36, then it it's going to get the business. It's going to go. Yeah.

echo_blades: Now I've witnessed it. There's no, no doubt about that.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. ah They, um Kevin put out a video about um the scratch and dents. So they're either they're going to put up for sale a bunch of like refurbished and scratch and dent motors. And I reached out to him and said, hey, hey you got one of those three horses? so then I, because I only have the two horse on mine and because I've ah only ever had a grinder with a two horse and, but I have bogged it down once or twice and I'm thinking, man, what I could do with a three horse.

Denis Tyrell: That would be awesome.

echo_blades: Yeah, I'm actually going to be traveling ah down south a to San Diego area with Jared in a couple weeks. I reached out to him today and I think I'm going to swing by and say what's up.

echo_blades: Go check out the shop.

Denis Tyrell: if he has that three horse, I might get you to pick it up for me.

echo_blades: and

Denis Tyrell: Because you're my best bud, Jared, and you would love to do stuff for me.

echo_blades: and do that would be really That would be really nice of me. Wow.

echo_blades: That would be exception exceptionally nice.

Denis Tyrell: uh

echo_blades: yeah

Denis Tyrell: but uh i i one thing i every time i teach not just this course but but this one has so many steps and it's one i probably haven't taught as many as some of the other courses but every time uh i i learn more about the nuances of folders every time i teach the class and uh just some problems that people like they were facing a problem that I don't normally see, which is like the blade being off center towards the lock bar.

Denis Tyrell: I won't get into too much detail, but that's, that's not usually the problem. Usually it goes the other, the other way. So we had to like, think about how to fix that. And, um, and we did on both or not, both of them had the same problem, which was bizarre, but, um,

echo_blades: Have you done ah folder class for anybody like a random?

Denis Tyrell: Um, well, what do you mean, Rand? Um,

echo_blades: like a Like a, I guess that like Jaden would probably be the most random, but I know you you, you know, Brent and I did it, Toby, and then,

Denis Tyrell: so yeah, no, I haven't done it for like random students. I have, well, I have, um, um, now I'm spacing. Who's coming next month? Um, um, what's his name?

Denis Tyrell: Geez, he's gonna yell at me. Um, No, not that one.

Denis Tyrell: a ge Jeff, Jeff Rumba is coming next, yeah, yeah um end of July.

echo_blades: he will remit.

echo_blades: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Denis Tyrell: And he's taking the folder class.

echo_blades: Got it.

Denis Tyrell: So that'd be the first, you know, not someone I know really well. why He's been here for a class already, so I do know him pretty well.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: But um but yeah, it's cool.

echo_blades: Yeah, yeah.

Denis Tyrell: It's cool to pick up new little, you know, how to um We spent a lot of time on how to bend the lock bar properly this um um this time, and I actually updated the notes with a little more details on how to bend the lock bar and just some other things that I thought was you know interesting. to you know The more times you do it, the easier it is to teach, so it was it was good.

Denis Tyrell: I had a good time as well and learned stuff.

echo_blades: Nice.

echo_blades: Cool.

Denis Tyrell: So we've got to get yours finished. what do you got left to do in yours?

echo_blades: Yeah, i worked on it. I worked on it a little bit.

Denis Tyrell: I know, but do you have left? Just finish work?

echo_blades: Basically.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, because you got to do um the notch in the um

echo_blades: Yeah, I have a little...

Denis Tyrell: in the lock bar.

echo_blades: The last time the last time we Yeah, I can't remember if this is a new thing, but it was a little sticky. um The action was really good at one time, and then I don't know if it just was gritty as hell, and I got to clean it up.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, you're talking about the lock sticks?

echo_blades: But yeah, um predominantly it's, yeah, the lock stick and the just the actual action on it. Because it it actually opens up and locks in tighter than...

echo_blades: It's nice both ways.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: The detent is in there really good. So it locks up and closes really cool, but it's a little sticky on the inside in between there.

echo_blades: um But yeah, basically finish work.

Denis Tyrell: Okay. Yeah. You got, um, I think that lock stick, you just got to next time you're bringing over. if it's still sticky, we'll either re harden it.

Denis Tyrell: We'll try that first and then take a little diamond file and just kind of um soften the edges on the lock bar that where it touches. And that usually takes a bit of the stick out.

echo_blades: um a second I was second guessing myself on whether we hardened it or not.

Denis Tyrell: I don't think we, it's really shiny, so I don't think we did.

echo_blades: Yeah. I couldn't, I can't. I know Brent's was. But anyways, yeah, neither here nor there.

Denis Tyrell: we We'll do it again anyway.

echo_blades: I was second guessing myself.

Denis Tyrell: i've i've

echo_blades: Yeah. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. It's like a one minute operation, so it's and it's not hard.

echo_blades: I remember seeing it and doing it. that's why um that's why I think we did, but.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, if we did rents, we would have done yours.

echo_blades: I don't remember.

Denis Tyrell: I don't see why we wouldn't have.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: But...

echo_blades: Unless I was not in the class or working or something.

Denis Tyrell: Maybe.

Denis Tyrell: But... um

Denis Tyrell: um if you

echo_blades: You know, who's always in class, you know, who's always in class and doesn't ever take a break.

Denis Tyrell: Who's always in class?

echo_blades: Lawrence from maritime knife supply.

Denis Tyrell: I was just going to jump into that read.

echo_blades: Yeah. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: I've had a different angle, but

echo_blades: Cause he,

echo_blades: Oh, I just been, you know, we, we, we chat pretty regularly, man. And that that guy literally is one of the hardest working dudes. I know he's just, he's, he's in it up to his ears right now. And, um, so anyways, hats off to that guy. doesn't take a break. It needs a break.

echo_blades: Um, although he did go to a NASCAR event. I saw that.

Denis Tyrell: Yes, that was the one I saw today.

echo_blades: That was pretty cool.

Denis Tyrell: the

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: i was kind of surprised when I saw an Oscar.

echo_blades: So good for you, sir. Yeah. But, um, Yeah, if you need anything for knife making, go check out Maritime Knife Supply. He's got it all for you, and he'll get it to you really quick.

Denis Tyrell: Indeed. um Yeah, I've got a... i I screwed up and for some reason, I don't know, when I'm like, I focus on like the next thing I have to do like calendar wise, which was like this weekend.

Denis Tyrell: And then anything else that happens feels like it's like weeks away. But so I was thinking that July 4th was like next weekend. You were the one that corrected me and said, no, no, it's this week.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: And I was like, shit. So I only have three more days. So I'm going to try to, um,

echo_blades: But I always, i always love the matter of fact in which you tell me I'm wrong. It's, it's a, it's a quality characteristic that you have. And think it was just you and I, you were, were making some, we were grilling or something. was out there talking with you. I was like, yeah, I think it's the fourth of July. No, it's not. That's the week after.

echo_blades: i was like, no, dude. ah Pull out your calendar.

Denis Tyrell: No, that that was disbelief. That's ah my my snap disbelief reaction.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: um Yeah, so only three days. So I'm going to well finish mile i'll finish my folder like tomorrow morning. But I'm working on another design. the the one The other one that you saw is a little, you another curvier design.

Denis Tyrell: I'd like to get that one done before the weekend.

echo_blades: I like it.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, it's ah in ah funny enough, totally random.

echo_blades: Yeah, I like that.

Denis Tyrell: ah It actually looks like one of Jaden's fixed blades when it's open. the handle is very, very similar to his. Um, so maybe I was, uh, subliminaly boy, that didn't come out right.

Denis Tyrell: Sublima. I can't even say the word, unconsciously.

echo_blades: Sublime.

Denis Tyrell: No, unconsciously thinking, thinking of his knives when I designed it.

echo_blades: Subliminally.

Denis Tyrell: Uh, cause I knew he was coming.

echo_blades: think you had too many ah I think you had too many Jason mimosas.

Denis Tyrell: ah Yeah, probably.

echo_blades: yeah

Denis Tyrell: Uh,

echo_blades: I don't know. what i have that written down there. We were talking with the with Noah the first night he was there. and I can't remember what the joke was, dude.

Denis Tyrell: You don't remember the context? I remember the context.

echo_blades: out. That's what it was.

Denis Tyrell: ki kim ki Kim always jokingly says, oh, my husband looks like just looks just like Jason Momoa.

echo_blades: Yeah.

echo_blades: that's what it was

Denis Tyrell: And then you said, more like Jason Mimosa.

echo_blades: ah Yeah, that's what it is.

Denis Tyrell: That was a good one.

echo_blades: That's right.

Denis Tyrell: i'll I'll give you that one. That's a good one.

echo_blades: Yeah, that's when she said, ah who I don't know what it was, but Baywatch was on and she was saying that you had the abs look like, your abs look like Zac Efron.

echo_blades: And I was like, okay, yeah, sure. Then mine looked just like the rocks. So we are shredded, my friend.

Denis Tyrell: I think mine looked like the the other guy on the dark haired guy. Mine looked like his.

echo_blades: oh god who's the god i can't remember his name it was a dude in 21 jump street the the yeah

Denis Tyrell: i don't, I don't. Yes, that guy. That guy.

echo_blades: why is his name freaking excuse me it's not here like i don't even have ah an inkling of who he is hey he's a funny fat dude with abs like like ours

Denis Tyrell: i have no idea.

Denis Tyrell: No, he's a comedian, but I don't know.

Denis Tyrell: yeah

Denis Tyrell: Um, yeah, so, July 4th in like four days or whatever, while leaving for July 4th in four days, going camping and jet skiing, planning on having a good weekend.

echo_blades: Yeah.

echo_blades: Yeah. That was the one thing I i was going to tell you. is like, you can't argue with me about an upcoming holiday because I work. So, you know every day is not a potential holiday for me. So I know these days when I get a paid day off, they're, they're very near and dear to my heart. So, um, yeah, looking forward to that.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, but you're, you're, good ah you what what are you doing for July 4th?

echo_blades: I have been good.

Denis Tyrell: You're going family or something like that?

echo_blades: I'm fine. Yeah, I'll probably go hang out with my buddy. I'll golf for sure.

Denis Tyrell: On July 4th?

echo_blades: There's nothing more American than golfing. And then I'll...

Denis Tyrell: I'm not going to entertain that, but, and then what?

echo_blades: that's That's it. I'll go swim and eat hot dogs and steaks and corn and cupcakes and more cupcakes and... More cupcakes.

echo_blades: And then I have zero plans to go see fireworks. ah

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, well, we're going to be we can be on the Delta, so I think we'll probably um have dinner on the on the, what's it called, Sugar Barge restaurant there.

echo_blades: Zero.

Denis Tyrell: and They'll probably fire them off over Frank's Track, I'm assuming, which is like a big waterway on the Delta.

echo_blades: I've done a lot of fishing on Frank's track.

Denis Tyrell: um Really? Huh.

echo_blades: Well, off of it anyways.

Denis Tyrell: You caught fish there?

echo_blades: Striper town, baby. Striper town, yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Really? Huh. No, never even thought of fishing there.

echo_blades: I've spent many days on on on er a lot of boats other than the wakeboarding boats.

Denis Tyrell: I...

echo_blades: In the Delta anyways.

Denis Tyrell: the the the first The first time I met Dan, like the first whatever, couple of months, I asked him if if he fishes and like, can I fish off his boat? And he looked at me like, like you look at me when I say something stupid.

Denis Tyrell: Like, he was like, don't even consider bringing a fishing a fishing rod on my boat. Yeah.

echo_blades: I get it now. I do get it now.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: I think I said the same thing. i was like, I'll just fish while you guys are.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, that's what you mean.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: no you won'

echo_blades: That's funny.

echo_blades: Yeah. What's going to say? Oh, 4th of July. Yeah. I have continued my mission of watching a bunch of revolutionary con constitution, independence, declaration of independence documentaries, man.

echo_blades: I'm thoroughly enjoying myself.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, you you feel educated?

echo_blades: There's a lot of, uh, I am humbled by how much I thought I knew and how much was just assumed.

echo_blades: So it's been, it's been enlightening to say the least. And I'm feeling super, super American right now.

Denis Tyrell: And this is all about presidents or...

echo_blades: Um,

echo_blades: No, it's just about like the the the whole the being the 250th birthday, right? Just the whole, the beginning. The last thing I've been watching is a thing on Netflix called The American Experiment about, you know, what a...

echo_blades: how incredible our, you know, our government and the democracy and the evolution of all that and how new and, uh, it just, just how different it is and how relatively new comparative to, you know, our, the history of, of us all being here.

echo_blades: Um, it's just been super enlightening and film him really, uh, like I said, just, yeah, super patriotic and yeah.

Denis Tyrell: You sound pretty patriotic right now. I'm like hearing the star-spangled banner off in the distance.

echo_blades: Mm-hmm. Yep. It's, it's, it's, yeah, a hundred percent. um I don't know. Maybe I'm just getting old, but yeah, like i said, though, the thing is, this is how much, ah how, how many details I didn't actually know of the, the events and like how, what a, what a,

echo_blades: how unlikely it was for us to to be here right now. Like a million things had to go right. And, you know, I had to send some amazing people and yeah, just some really cool, cool stuff.

echo_blades: So, uh, yeah, it's been, it's been a good, good use of time and traffic. hello

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I haven't watched any of those specials, but I do normally like those, but just no time lately.

echo_blades: Yeah, but there was some on The Presidents.

Denis Tyrell: but

echo_blades: I watched one on Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt. like yeah i Just on and on and on. So it's been good.

Denis Tyrell: Good.

echo_blades: What I was going to say to you was

echo_blades: nothing. Good night, everybody.

Denis Tyrell: I was going to say, it sounds thrilling.

echo_blades: completely went blank. It happens sometimes. I'm a little bummed.

Denis Tyrell: What are you bummed?

echo_blades: i think like i I think that you wasted the good Dennis for another show. And i just want to highlight what a very, very bad move that is for the Triple T audience.

Denis Tyrell: ah Yeah, doing an episode, especially before. Should have that one after. Should have done ours before.

echo_blades: yeah i Yeah, I couldn't agree with you more.

Denis Tyrell: ah Noah asked, he wanted to record Hustle and Grind while he was here. And so we did. It was fun. So yeah, go listen to that one.

echo_blades: I opted out. Yeah. Yeah. You want to know what really happened? Go check out another show where you'll get fully energetic and actually happy.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, don't listen to ours.

echo_blades: Yeah. Dennis feels like he's repeating himself. Even though I know nothing about what happened. So,

Denis Tyrell: Um, no, I mean, it was, it was good to hear their perspective, like, uh, Noah and Jaden and how the, they thought the weekend went and how, you know, they learned stuff and yeah, it was good hearing their, their, uh, their perspective, but.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, um looking forward to getting into the rest of the summer now. It's going to start to get hot here. And I've got forging to do, which is not going to be fun.

Denis Tyrell: So, well, it's under...

echo_blades: You're going bust out your peen?

Denis Tyrell: I will be busting out the peen. um My plan after the buoy I'm working on which is now in hand sand and finish work, um I will be do cutting a couple slices off that loaf of feather, the one I did that fancy buoy on.

Denis Tyrell: And I'm going to do another, i think, ah a buoy and a hunter um set, like a pair, um a kind of a matching pair. And that's going to require some forging.

Denis Tyrell: So some hand forging. So I will definitely be using the two bastards hammers to force those to my will and make some cool looking knives out of those. So if you need a hammer to force something to your will, go get yourself a fat peen. like at One of those straight, one of those cross, or one of the zigzag peens for extra pleasure.

Denis Tyrell: Why, Jared? Why extra pleasure?

echo_blades: Because it's always grand to have a double diagonal fab peen in your hand.

Denis Tyrell: Yes.

echo_blades: Doesn't matter which way you flip it.

Denis Tyrell: Goes both ways.

echo_blades: Flip it and grip it. It goes both ways. let's see what you did there.

Denis Tyrell: ah That ad read is getting more and more... a What's the term?

echo_blades: Awesome.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, yeah, that. Um, but yeah, lots of, knife. I still, I still, that those two other, well, I still got a few months, I'll do those two. And then i don't know what else I'm going to do for, uh, Austria.

Denis Tyrell: I may try to do a dagger for Austria. Um, just to keep practicing daggers unless it turns out really good and I want to keep it for my master set, but we'll see.

echo_blades: Nice.

Denis Tyrell: So, yeah. But, um,

echo_blades: What was the word that you taught me with that scribing on the ivory or whatever that was?

Denis Tyrell: Scrimshaw?

echo_blades: Scrimshaw. That's right.

Denis Tyrell: Yes. I have a...

echo_blades: Dennis has a piece of ivory that has some scrimshaw on it where there is a blatant, blatant disregard for firearm safety going on on it

Denis Tyrell: Well, it looks like he's firing a spear gun, so there's that.

echo_blades: This dude is...

echo_blades: ah You can call whatever you want, but he's got that spear gun pointed right at his homie's head. If we're ever together in that situation and there's a barrel pointed that close to my head, we're fighting.

echo_blades: If you don't shoot me, obviously.

Denis Tyrell: ah Yeah, but you can see the little cord and it's it's hitting a seal, I think.

echo_blades: I guess.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, that was actually surprise when I got that ivory that it was scrimshot on one side, which is kind of cool.

echo_blades: sacrificial scrimshaw

Denis Tyrell: It almost... It makes me, and on the end of one, I'm actually going to probably cut that end because it has a beautiful picture of a deer head.

Denis Tyrell: So I may actually like cut it off almost like a coin on the end just so I,

echo_blades: i don't know if it's beautiful but it's it's a deer i don't know if that's difficult to do or not but

Denis Tyrell: no, no. I'm assuming it's pretty difficult. But the deer looks pissed off. That's what I like about it. It's not like a happy deer.

echo_blades: There you go

Denis Tyrell: It's pissed off deer.

echo_blades: It's a dentist deer. It's a DD double dentist deer.

Denis Tyrell: Or I guess maybe maybe it's a a caribou. I don't know.

echo_blades: It's a for fuck's sake deer. That's what it is.

Denis Tyrell: I'll show you next time. Like, if you really look at the deer on the end, because I was looking at it and thinking, oh, I might just cut this off. And i'm like, that deer looks pissed. um

echo_blades: Oh, what's one of those weird Canadian phrases that you tell me is giving you the the wink eye, the stink, the the, no, it's the hairy eyeball.

Denis Tyrell: The stink guy, yeah. The the hairy eyeball. The hairy.

echo_blades: That's what it is.

Denis Tyrell: But Toby knew what that meant.

echo_blades: He did foreigners.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: you know who doesn't give people the hairy eyeball gives them the hairy chin coy baker from baker forge

echo_blades: Oh,

echo_blades: Hmm. That's right. he does. He's got a mean hairy chin.

Denis Tyrell: um and uh

echo_blades: Where do we begin with my hairy chin?

Denis Tyrell: ah If you guys need some premium steel, go check out Baker Fortune Tool because they got the most amazing steel around. ah You can use the discount code TTT10 and load up that cart, not just with steel, but Gator Piss, their premium etch-ins to make that steel pop.

Denis Tyrell: The Grime Reaper to clean it and then protect it with gator skin. So what they got it all. Um, is, uh, what's, oh yeah. The Firestorm damn core Chevron is, uh, because I only know cause we talked about it yesterday.

Denis Tyrell: Um, is, uh, it's one of my favorite patterns. It is, uh, Damascus core Damascus cladding with, um, the copper and then hit with the Chevron dyes that makes it just look amazing.

Denis Tyrell: So, uh, definitely check that out.

echo_blades: you you also know You also know because I put it in the show notes.

Denis Tyrell: No.

Denis Tyrell: I'm actually not looking at the show.

echo_blades: You keep bringing this other show up, dude. Why don't you just tell them me to use their code, too, you douche nugget.

Denis Tyrell: i Noah said, Noah thought I was going to jump in and say our code last ah last night, but I was nice and didn't.

echo_blades: That would be rude. Yeah. But you can use the app to get early access to the drop next week ahead of all the standard basic interwebers.

Denis Tyrell: ah

Denis Tyrell: Riff raff.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Don't be riffraff. Get it early.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. So go, go check out Koi's beard at a Baker fortune tool and, uh, get some steel, get some stuff.

echo_blades: Be greedy.

echo_blades: Use the discount code TTT10.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. That, um,

echo_blades: For some, what what what do we what do we say? For some...

echo_blades: I can't even remember the fucking mistake I made last night.

Denis Tyrell: What? Oh.

echo_blades: Limited quality.

Denis Tyrell: with ah Right. When you're looking for amazing limited quality, go talk to Jared.

echo_blades: Grip X, no slip, just grip.

Denis Tyrell: Like, like that's a really fine line for me.

echo_blades: see it. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Like sometimes it just gets a little too much, but the ones that he has here are the perfect amount for me. Um, yeah. The one, the second, sorry, the third row that is mostly like black, gray, and like silver.

Denis Tyrell: it must have like some silver.

echo_blades: i see it

Denis Tyrell: right Beautiful. like such That is such an elegant um engraving on that bolster.

echo_blades: like it goes into some kind of like pearlish transition too.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, it looks like Mother of Pearl on the scale.

echo_blades: Yeah. Really, really classy.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, very, very classy. Like just beautiful, beautiful work.

echo_blades: That's the one that caught my eye too, Dennis.

Denis Tyrell: Yep.

echo_blades: It caught my hairy eyeball.

Denis Tyrell: shave your eyeballs. You won't get them caught.

echo_blades: Mm-hmm.

Denis Tyrell: I also, like if you scroll down a couple of rows, that one, the the ones that are, the one that's green right beside the Blade Show, um

Denis Tyrell: look for the Blade Show ad, like the the Blade Show picture, ah the green one to the left of it.

echo_blades: Whoa.

Denis Tyrell: I love that one.

Denis Tyrell: You following me?

echo_blades: Yep.

Denis Tyrell: Oh, he's got another one.

echo_blades: Sorry. My, my, my inner web made me refresh the page.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: Sorry.

Denis Tyrell: Very cool. And...

echo_blades: In the second row.

Denis Tyrell: No, no. de um It might be... I don't think it's the same one. No, it's not the same one.

echo_blades: it's the one with the black bolster.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: Yeah, that one's dope.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: I agree.

Denis Tyrell: Like it a lot. I just love that. don't know what that is. Green...

Denis Tyrell: came It can't be G10. I don't know what that handle material is, but it's really nice.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, very, anyway.

echo_blades: That's not cool.

Denis Tyrell: yeah Yeah, I don't know what that is.

echo_blades: What?

echo_blades: don't either.

Denis Tyrell: But beautiful, beautiful knives. ah And he's got, um what

echo_blades: Emerald micarta.

Denis Tyrell: really?

echo_blades: um And the.

echo_blades: I think it's the. These things remind me of a Miami Vice, those really bright colors. um And I, yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Mm-hmm. At least the top one, the pinned one.

echo_blades: But yeah, I was just digging what he was doing. Nice work, interesting, different styles, cool handle material, um all segmented stuff put together really nice. Yeah, I think he was doing some kind of a giveaway or something on the post that I saw. But really cool stuff. So I thought I'd give him a shout out. That is...

echo_blades: That's not. I just actually stumbled on it right now. Yeah, really cool stuff, though. I'm a digging it. So, yeah, go check them out.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Oh, I love that. um He's got, it looks like a countersink punch, like a manual countersink. um I don't know if he made it, but that is very cool.

echo_blades: Where am I missing?

Denis Tyrell: Oh, no, it's from another maker, True Legacy Tools. Oh, it was a carbide chamfer. So I guess he maybe he did the handle work. Very cool.

Denis Tyrell: I love that one.

Denis Tyrell: It's a ways down, but cool.

echo_blades: Nice. Okay. I was like, I'm not seeing it.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, it's a little ways down.

echo_blades: All right.

Denis Tyrell: If you keep going, you'll see it. Yeah, some cool stuff.

echo_blades: Yeah. Very cool.

Denis Tyrell: Alrighty.

Denis Tyrell: So back at it, at at least for a couple of days, and then we get some time off again. so So that'll be fun.

echo_blades: Yeah, I'll hopefully get some time in the shop too. That'll be good.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I will not probably. Maybe Sunday, Sunday afternoon by the time we usually get home pretty early from camping. So I'll probably yeah get in there Sunday afternoon after we're back, but I'll be in there the rest of the week.

echo_blades: Yeah.

echo_blades: Yeah. i normally try to take one of those long weekends and get some time in there. It's prime double dipping, you know?

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. But we're going to be close to you guys. You guys should, you know, you're not doing anything Friday night or something. Come over for dinner.

Denis Tyrell: Bring the wife, join us at Sugar Barge restaurant for dinner.

echo_blades: Over there in methyl Island.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, Methyl Island.

echo_blades: Yeah. i do is dope I just don't think of eating when I go there.

Denis Tyrell: you've been You've been to Sugar Barge before, haven't you?

echo_blades: and It's the same place so we went last time, right?

Denis Tyrell: Did we go?

Denis Tyrell: No, I'm talking about the restaurant.

echo_blades: I don't...

Denis Tyrell: Like, yeah, but yeah, yeah, yeah.

echo_blades: Well, that's just on the other side of the grounds, right? Yeah, i have not been to the restaurant.

Denis Tyrell: Oh, the restaurant's pretty good.

echo_blades: No, I have not. Nice.

Denis Tyrell: And you get to sit up there and watch, have a beautiful view of Frank's track and the sunset and all that stuff.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: So yeah, it's fun.

echo_blades: Nice.

echo_blades: I was going to say, before I started yawning, excuse me.

Denis Tyrell: Sorry, am I boring you?

echo_blades: oh Yeah, you are, actually, always. um

echo_blades: Yeah. If you guys haven't had the opportunity to go hang out with other makers and do what we like, something like we did this weekend, just, I think you're doing yourself a disservice. Um, I was kind of, while I was at work today,

echo_blades: um I just kept getting some thinking and like, what an awesome time. Like all the laughs, all the, the, just the conversations, the, the, exchange of ideas. It is, I was absolutely amazed to find out that that was the first time that Jaden had actually got to do something like that.

echo_blades: Um, so it just kind of was making me feel, uh, pretty lucky, um, that I've got to hang out and, and make and quite a few different people's shops.

echo_blades: Um, so if you guys haven't done that, man, I highly suggest it, um, find somebody local or plan a cool trip and go hang out with somebody.

Denis Tyrell: you

echo_blades: Cause, uh, it's, it's just a hell of a time.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, for sure. And I mean, obviously he's got some, some, uh, challenges, uh, so he doesn't, you know, leave the house as much as maybe other people, but, um, it was great to have him here and yeah, I agree. It's, it is awesome being in other people's shops just to, even just to see the layout of their shop, how they use tools that it might be different, the processes they use with those tools and yeah.

Denis Tyrell: so yeah i mean i'm you might head up to uh noah's shop i hear so uh that'd be fun uh yeah

echo_blades: Yeah. I will be heading up there. Oh, it's kind of, it's kind of make it happen.

Denis Tyrell: oh you will be nice all right make it happen yeah

echo_blades: Yeah. It just, just takes a little bit of planning.

Denis Tyrell: um I did want to say that um I made a mistake last week and said that the Sci-Fi Challenge announcement video was going to be last Thursday. Again, i apparently do not know how to use a calendar.

Denis Tyrell: It is this Thursday that...

echo_blades: You were using the Canadian calendar. I get it.

Denis Tyrell: I'm using the metric calendar.

echo_blades: You're up against it.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, yeah.

echo_blades: You're using a different process.

Denis Tyrell: yes ah yeah

echo_blades: You got to use the correct template. All right, I'm done.

Denis Tyrell: ah You don't know.

echo_blades: My favorite thing, my favorite before you go on, my favorite, favorite, favorite moment of the weekend was I made a comment about you saying against and Jaden caught on.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: And every single time you said it, he locked eyes with me and just kind of chuckled to himself. That's what we were doing at the at the Mexican restaurant. uh you were like what are you talking about what are you doing and i'm like nothing i just got a got a side thing going on so yeah it just just another my my hats off to to jayden for being a a witty uh little champ there that was fucking that was that was awesome every time you said he just looked at me we started laughing

Denis Tyrell: Even Jayden's busted my balls now.

echo_blades: all right back to your story yeah

Denis Tyrell: um Yeah, but stay tuned for the announcement. You'll find out everyone who's going to be in the Sci-Fi Challenge. It's going to be a fun one, so so check it out. I will also post that a link to that video into the Facebook group, ah get people going.

Denis Tyrell: But yeah, it starts Thursday.

echo_blades: Bro, whatever you got going on with your camera is making me fucking nauseous. ah you I am seriously like, you're like, I feel like I'm in a, I feel like I'm going to go find the Petrovia line or whatever.

Denis Tyrell: ah

Denis Tyrell: Okay.

echo_blades: I'm fucking sick right now.

Denis Tyrell: Time to turn the auto center off on the Apple camera.

echo_blades: Yeah, or stay still. Fuck, dude. It's taking me for a while. I'm about to hit my face on the screen, dude, trying to follow you.

Denis Tyrell: It's anything to give Jared some exercise. and

echo_blades: Yeah, that's what I need for sure. You know, I did what is i i did want to say one thing, and I and i feel like i

Denis Tyrell: It's the where's Waldo of...

echo_blades: I don't owe anybody apology, but I feel, for myself anyways, I feel, ah all month I've been meaning to to mention that it was Men's Mental heard mental Health Awareness Month.

echo_blades: And um i know it's gonna come out tomorrow and it's the last day, but um i I stand behind this statement where I say that I don't, I think there's there is nothing more sad to me than people that, especially ah men that needlessly suffer because of things they're going through. They don't have the ability to talk, to share, to to let it out.

echo_blades: And ah i like I said, that's that's where I feel like I i i but meant to to bring this up you know throughout the throughout the month and just kind of encourage anybody that feels that way. And if you're not great, that's awesome. I'm not saying it's, you know, everybody's afflicted by stuff like that, but if you are, um, and you're having any kind of, uh, thoughts ah loneliness and all that crap, um,

echo_blades: You know, you're not alone. There's all kinds of people to talk to. And just don't like I said, I truly, truly with with all my heart feel like that is the saddest thing in the world to me where um that people just needlessly suffer because most of the time you start talking to people, you're going to start hearing people relate and identify with the things that you're saying. um And if there, if you're talking to somebody and it doesn't work out, there's always somebody else. So, um, I just want to encourage you guys to, to at least have some awareness of it. Um, if everything's going great, that's awesome. Keep that up. Um, if not, um, like I said, don't, don't be afraid to, uh, to, to talk because, uh,

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Don't needlessly suffer. Be like me. And ah yeah I have a reason because I talk to Jared every week. That's, uh, that's my reason for suffering.

echo_blades: Yes. A hundred percent. Yes. I am suffering from a dentist, which is why I reach out continuously to my so mental health support group and which has sustained me and given me the ability to deal with this and participate in this relationship for, i what did we say?

echo_blades: like Four years, four, almost five years now.

Denis Tyrell: I think it's five.
