Introduction to Coaster Enthusiast Conversations Series
00:00:22
Speaker
I would say I'm here on my own, but I at least don't have Bryant or Jen with me because this is the first episode of the Coaster Enthusiast Conversations.
00:00:30
Speaker
series, don't know about series, but just new episodes to get things going weekly and just talk to people in the community. was an idea I had a while back. If you listened to the last episode, I kind of went into it a little bit more. um Yeah, just to talk to people, anyone, people that have 1,500 credits to people that have 20 and are
Introducing Alex and His Coaster Journey
00:00:50
Speaker
just getting into the hobby. So today i have a good friend of mine. Say hi, Alex. a Hello. So you are You're you' are lucky number one for our first ever Coaster Enthusiast Conversations. ah Bear with me as we kind of ah learn this format for the first time.
00:01:10
Speaker
We have not rehearsed this in any way, shape, or form. Hey, we're here to figure it out together. We are. um so yeah, Alex, do you want to start and kind of talk about a little bit about yourself and your basic questions that people typically ask you first thing?
00:01:25
Speaker
I'm lucky enough to call Cedar Point my home park, which is pretty cool. um
00:01:32
Speaker
Credit count isn't the biggest, but hopefully I'm working on that this year. Yes, especially with some hopeful summer plans. Yes.
00:01:43
Speaker
I guess one of the things people always question me about is like the the tattoo I have on my forearm. I always have to explain to him, it's the logo for Millennium Force at Cedar Point.
00:02:00
Speaker
And that's part of how a part of how we met. It was our first day together or first day that we met, met up at Cedar Point. Right. And I also have a Millennium Force a logo tattoo. So naturally, what did we do? We went and took pictures of our Millennium Force tattoos in front of Millennium Force.
00:02:15
Speaker
Right. Right. So obviously i know how we met. How did we meet? I'll let you ah answer that one. This is your episode after all.
Community Connections and Coaster Influencers
00:02:32
Speaker
I joined Buzzbars Coaster Club. Shout out Mark, Tom and Marcus.
00:02:43
Speaker
And it was awesome. There was a bunch of posts in our Discord about you know people going to Cedar Point for opening day. And I was invited to meet up with you and Mike and a bunch of other people.
00:02:59
Speaker
um And yeah, we just kind of like hit it off immediately. Was that Top Thrill 2 opening day?
00:03:09
Speaker
Yes. The reopening day? No, it was opening day number one. Okay. um Yeah, we just kind of hit it off from there. and Now you come to Cincinnati every other weekend.
00:03:25
Speaker
Correct. Yeah, but we like having you down here. Usually just sit on the couch and watch Coaster YouTube. Right, yeah. A shout out, especially at That's So Mid rally. we Pretty much any time we have friends over, we are watching one of your episodes on Sunday mornings.
00:03:42
Speaker
We love you, Riley. We do. lovevin ah Loving in the new new season to GeoGuessr. Yes. So I guess starting out, I guess the best way to start is at the beginning.
Alex's Coaster Hobby and Social Media
00:03:55
Speaker
When and how did you get into coasters and theme parks and this weird hobby that we all love? um i i could give you a specific date if you wanted. Sure.
00:04:08
Speaker
was college. i was in college It was October of 2018 and I was looking for a job and I stumbled across a of job posting for a ride operator at Mall of America.
00:04:32
Speaker
you know, so I was working there and then I started, you know, riding the rides on my days off and i just kind of like fell in love with it there And you've kind of progressed through working at multiple parks too. Yes.
00:04:48
Speaker
I started at Mall of America. um i was there for two years. Then I worked at Valley Fair for two years.
00:04:59
Speaker
And now I'm here in Ohio. ah were you You were right off at in Valley Fair, right? Yes. Steel Venom in 2021. twenty twenty one I like how you knew my question before I was getting to it. Yeah, I worked Steel Venom 2021, which is the goaded Impulse coaster because it has a working holding break.
00:05:23
Speaker
I haven't been there yet. I wouldn't know. You need to go. I'm working on it. and then in And then in 2022, I was
00:05:36
Speaker
a trainer at Corkscrew. nice Which is probably one of the smoothest arrow loopers ever. And that's that's saying something.
00:05:48
Speaker
um Yeah. oh i i I miss being a ride-op some days. yeah cause when ah I was a ride-op kind of once in my life.
00:06:00
Speaker
And it was for a powered cred. don't even know if you knew that about me. I did not. there In Atlanta, there was a tiny little... family amusement park or whatever like adjacent to six flags whitewater called american adventures uh and it was like probably like 12 little outdoor rides and then they had a little powered coaster so i was a i was a ride up there for about a year oh cool Yeah.
00:06:27
Speaker
So I know we we mentioned how we watch Riley on the weekends. um Yes. other the youtube We literally just will post YouTube videos on the TV and let it go. um A lot of BuzzBars videos too. ah Is there any creators in the industry that inspired you when you were starting out in the hobby?
00:06:44
Speaker
Is there anything you gravitated towards?
00:06:49
Speaker
um Theme park review. That's what it was. Like, I remember, like, just putting Theme Park Review on my computer and watching their videos for hours on end.
00:07:06
Speaker
Did you do more, like, triplog trip vlogs or POVs? POVs, basically. Yeah, I know they they had a lot of good ones back in the day. um Any that stick out in your brain that you remember watching a lot?
00:07:27
Speaker
Not necessarily. um
00:07:32
Speaker
that That's really like what got me
00:07:37
Speaker
more open to the idea of, you know, being an enthusiast and enjoying the industry. Yeah.
00:07:47
Speaker
You know, something else i don't know if you knew about me is that a theme park of review also is part of my lore. really not They did the ah music video editing contest back in the day.
00:08:00
Speaker
And I just loved watching all those. And that's what got me into video editing and doing coaster videos. And why all of my videos now that I do have like 2000s emo song vibes.
00:08:11
Speaker
Because that's what I got into it. I have very distinct memories of one that was ah done at Epcot to some 41 song. I'm like, hey, I like this.
00:08:26
Speaker
ah what about what What creators do you watch more now besides Riley? um I can think of his name.
The Role of Online Coaster Communities
00:08:35
Speaker
Scott Schaefer. Okay. His YouTube channel.
00:08:39
Speaker
was the camp Coaster Force. That's it. Yeah. yeah i was again I was big in Coaster Force 20 years ago. I mean, that's that's another channel that like I watched back in the day, too.
00:08:52
Speaker
And I still watch him to this day. Yeah.
00:08:58
Speaker
Yeah, that that community, the forums, is the reason I'm a coaster enthusiast today.
00:09:06
Speaker
don't know how active the forums are now, but... Probably not. i don't know. Honestly, I haven't looked in a long time. think, like, Hutch recently said something about posting trip reports there still. I never go on there much anymore, but... going to say, it's probably been...
00:09:27
Speaker
over five years since I've looked at those.
00:09:33
Speaker
Yeah. Oh man. Those take me back to when I was a little baby enthusiast. Right. When you had a credit count of like a hundred.
00:09:44
Speaker
at one point I like searched my name and I found like some post I did when I like first went to Cedar Point. i don't know. don't if it was on Coaster Force or it might've been on was like coaster buzz or something like that i don't know but when i had like 20 or 30 credits to my name and i went to cedar point for the first time in 2004 hey you probably cleaned up a lot of credits on that first trip though did i mean i got to i got a wildcat was there then disaster
Memorable Coaster Experiences
00:10:16
Speaker
transport the og uh top thrill dragster
00:10:21
Speaker
Yeah, I went opening year or year after. I forget when it actually was. I think Dragster was 2003. Okay, so it was it was still pretty fresh. Yeah, I did get on that.
00:10:32
Speaker
I have video of my dad filming on it on his camcorder. Oh my god, not the camcorder. I mean, I suppose that makes sense, though, because, you we didn't have fancy cell phones. Yeah, and that was when... um My dad does not do coasters.
00:10:51
Speaker
um He's been on three, as far as I know.
00:10:57
Speaker
Three whole ones. And we went to Cedar Point for three days. He took me. yeah That was our first my first major coaster trip. And he took me there because I got good grades that year. Woohoo, smart people. Woohoo, nerds.
00:11:12
Speaker
you We were there for three days. So we got a season pass because it was cheaper. that My dad did not ride one single thing. Not even like giant wheel or sky ride or anything. no because I mean, I spent my whole time just riding all the coasters.
00:11:27
Speaker
Fair. But he would let me get in line, go ride coasters, and he would sit and read a book. I mean, hey. Unfortunately, there was, you know, like a some kind of breakdown on Millennium when I was in line and I was there for like two and a half hours and I didn't have a cell phone to let him know what was going on. and because You didn't want to, get you know, give up your spot in line.
00:11:49
Speaker
Yeah, i was I was in the station. Oh, yeah. if See, if you're in the station, lu I don't care how long the wait's going to be. I'm staying there.
00:12:00
Speaker
i just waited through that terribly long queue. And this is back in, you know, 2004. It was still pretty new then. Right. You know, height of summer. So, of course, the lines were ridiculous.
00:12:14
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, even now, it like during the summer. when it's like perfect weather and everything millennium, I'll have, you know, a two hour line. Yeah.
00:12:27
Speaker
Shout out to a single use fast lands for real.
00:12:33
Speaker
Uh, we certainly love those. Um, is this your first ever like podcast that you've been on? Yes. Um, so i was going to ask, do you have any creative endeavors in the industry?
00:12:48
Speaker
Yeah, since technically this is a creativity and theme parks podcast. I got to ask about that. I do have an Instagram.
00:13:00
Speaker
I haven't posted on it in a very long time. It's probably been not a long time. um It's probably been like a year or two. Let's see. I'm pulling it up now.
00:13:14
Speaker
I will link it in the episode description, too. Yeah. At least on the feed, you did do the last post because I know you share it with a couple other people. um June 16th, 2024. So it's been a hot minute.
00:13:30
Speaker
I feel like you've ah done some story posts before then. but Yeah. I try to do like a story post or something whenever I'm at a park. I'm just horrible about, you know, posting pictures.
00:13:46
Speaker
Did you take most of the pictures on the Instagram? Um, I mean, any of the ones with like my name on them. Obviously I posted and took. Oh yeah, I see an AJ on there.
00:14:02
Speaker
Is that the AJ in Buzzbars? Yes. Heck yeah.
00:14:09
Speaker
Actually, one of my closest friends that I met working at Corkscrew. In 2021 at Valley fair. so the most recent shot is.
00:14:23
Speaker
that back? Looks like that. Yes. Yeah. Kings Island. It's good shot. Which is a fantastic arrow suspended coaster. thought were going to say it's a fantastic park. And I'm like, yes.
00:14:35
Speaker
And also Kings Island is a awesome park. you know, they have, they have a awesome collection of rides. I wish they had some more arrows, but right.
00:14:50
Speaker
Oh, unfortunately, you know, those have a finite life. So for real. And a bat derailed, whatever, in the past couple of years. And I'm like, it's trying to, it's trying to, it's trying to leave the chat.
00:15:06
Speaker
yeah When, when the coaster leaves the group chat.
00:15:14
Speaker
Not quite the same as when when the trip leaves a group chat. True. I'm hoping to make
Instagram Growth and Engagement Strategies
00:15:20
Speaker
that a reality this year. was going to say, that that is something we are actively yeah working on.
00:15:25
Speaker
Yes, Allison is bullying me. Listen, it's coming up quick. People need to book flights. So far, me and Mike are the only ones going on this trip.
00:15:37
Speaker
I mean... No, we should have a good group. Yeah. Assuming people like their flights. It's going to be an awesome adventure. i'm going to hit I'm going to hit a good milestone on a good coaster.
00:15:51
Speaker
I can't wait. Did you actually say what your credit count was, by the way? Oh, no. ah My credit count... Let me me pull up LogRide real quick here. Like, man, I sent you these questions like...
00:16:04
Speaker
It's nothing compared to like Gary's credit count. but I mean, it's tough to compare to Gary. We love Gary.
00:16:15
Speaker
We love you, Gary. ah My current credit count is 140. What was your milestone? was grizzly at king's dominion because didn't we help make your like or no I think I took your milestone photo. You took my milestone picture because my phone died while I was in line for Flight of Fear.
00:16:44
Speaker
yeah That was... tried take it like with the grizzly in front of it. Yeah. the For the lighting conditions, the picture didn't turn out half bad. That's what Photoshop is for.
00:16:59
Speaker
Yeah, I need to run that through Lightroom
00:17:04
Speaker
Make it look more more better. More better. That's what my boss says at work. More better. but I say that at work constantly. I'll have to let my boss know about that.
00:17:19
Speaker
We literally have a ah thing on the wall that I made in the Spongebob like imagination meme. With the rainbow. And I found like this ridiculous one and it says, such more better. Yeah. I love that.
00:17:33
Speaker
I should. buff I'll try to find that and send it to you. Yes, I will. Or if I remember, I'll take a picture of it. I will put that in my boss's office. it's It's hanging on the wall by his desk. So I will have to ah get a picture of that if I remember tomorrow.
00:17:50
Speaker
Do you have any goals for the Instagram besides just posting more? Posting more, hopefully getting, you know, more followers kind of.
00:18:02
Speaker
trying to grow like the interactions that I have with the followers that I do now. Yeah, I'm so bad at that. I'm so bad at engagement. Yeah, it's something I'd like to, you know, hopefully and try and figure out this year.
00:18:17
Speaker
you know, maybe I can talk to you or Jen or so you know, somebody that knows what they're doing a little more than I do.
00:18:32
Speaker
You know more than me. i just I just podcast every now and then, and that's literally my entire Instagram feed for inverted is just call for questions and comments, and then here's the next episode, and then questions and comments, and here's the next episode. Right.
00:18:48
Speaker
I would like to get more into videos at some point, but...
00:18:54
Speaker
that's That's something I thought about doing, too, is trying to do, like, you know... short form, you know, reels and things like that with my page.
00:19:05
Speaker
I'm just, I'm so bad at editing them. Yeah. i was doing a Europa reel. I'd found a good song and I was just doing like some clips from our Europa trip at one point.
00:19:16
Speaker
And I just, I really suck at using the reels editor or whatever on Instagram. And just, and then I accidentally deleted my draft. I'm like, all right, well, nevermind. That's not getting posted. Yeah.
00:19:28
Speaker
Yeah, it's... I'm good at editing pictures. i mean I mean, you can see i like on my Instagram, like but they they turn out well. They pretty.
00:19:40
Speaker
I also use... ah When I take my pictures, I use portrait mode. Yeah. Because I feel like it just does a better job you know capturing
00:19:52
Speaker
the fantastic coasters that I ride. Unless it's an SLC. Yeah. I mean, you can still get creative pictures of SLCs. True. that That might be my task for you on our ah when the trip leaves the group chat.
00:20:09
Speaker
Correct. that i I should try. I should try that. know what I really want to do now that I think about it? Because this will be a good it would be a good place to do it. I like how we're not even saying it, but it's kind of fun. um Have you seen like the trends about like every person has a color and they look for like photos with that color and then they make like a grid using their photos or whatever? Because I really want to do that at a park.
00:20:37
Speaker
I don't think so. sent a reel to somebody recently. I'll have to find that and send it to you. um Because that would be just really cute to do at a park.
00:20:48
Speaker
with a but That would be kind of fun. do Like a little treasure hunt type thing. Yeah. scaming front Oh, that could be some good bit ah inverted creative videos. Now that think about it.
00:21:00
Speaker
We should do one um opening day at like King's Island or Cedar Point if you guys are planning on it coming out.
Photography and Theme Park Traditions
00:21:11
Speaker
to opening opening of Cedar Point?
00:21:13
Speaker
Yes. Kind of. You know about these plans, I thought. Oh, yes. I am in that group chat. I'm in so many group chats. at you know And the majority of them are like with coaster people. um Yeah, you know.
00:21:34
Speaker
a certain event coincides with Cedar Point opening weekend. Yes. And we will be going. Kings Island... Are you coming for Kings Island opening weekend? Yes.
00:21:48
Speaker
Cool. Good. We have plans. So we have we have traditions for opening day. Korean barbecue. Yes. I was going to say it involves Korean barbecue.
00:22:01
Speaker
It took me a second and I was like, oh, wait, we did that last weekend. Yeah, we did. oh It was a good old Valentine's Day. Yes. yeah That just made me hungry again.
00:22:16
Speaker
Is there a certain detail that you like to photograph? That's a weird question.
00:22:27
Speaker
I kind of like the more mechanical like aspects of things. you know Yeah.
00:22:36
Speaker
Like the wheels, the chains, Yeah.
00:22:40
Speaker
I, I, and I like those like long when I can get them, which is, you know, hard to do when a ride is in a restricted area. right Um, but I like like the long, like perspective shots down the track.
00:22:55
Speaker
Yeah. But you know, with all the rules around recording and taking pictures on rides, that's kind of hard to do. A little bit. Um,
00:23:08
Speaker
Yeah, just kind of like those cool perspective shots. Yeah. I've done some video like that where it was like, I called it cinematic goon shots because it was just like the super nerdy views of like right the counterweights and like the lift chains and brake systems. Yeah.
00:23:30
Speaker
I don't know if I've shown you that video. You should. I did it over Georgia. A park that I have yet to go to. I spent way too much of my life going to that park.
00:23:43
Speaker
There's so many parks that I want to go to.
00:23:47
Speaker
ah What are some bucket list parks for you? That's a good segue right there. i really want Fantasialand, Europa.
00:24:01
Speaker
can i Can I say the park? Can I say it? Yeah, I mean, I've said it on the on the podcast already before. Energylandia. Woohoo! Book your flights.
Bucket List Parks and Coasters
00:24:14
Speaker
Hey, now. If I bully you live on air, on podcast. Hey, maybe people will start harassing me in my DMs to book flights to Poland.
00:24:26
Speaker
To be fair, I've been harassing Jen to film Patreon videos for like three episodes and ah she still has not. So it is not working. um
00:24:41
Speaker
Which Energylandia, that goes back to like when I was just becoming an enthusiast, like watching the theme park review videos and like of them going to Energylandia.
00:24:53
Speaker
Right. that's just That park has always fascinated me. that' so like I forget that we have an age gap and that like you joined the hobby a lot more ah recently than I did.
00:25:09
Speaker
that you like you're You've like learned about coasters through where did you land in. i'm like I remember when that park first got like popular.
00:25:20
Speaker
trying to think some other parks. I did cross one of my bucket list, bucket list parks off this last year uh, silver dollar city. I went for the, uh, coaster Christmas event that, uh, ACE puts on, which so it's such a good event.
00:25:39
Speaker
It's so cool. Um, the park is absolutely gorgeous. Um, that time of year. so if you haven't gone for those of you listening,
00:25:51
Speaker
If you haven't gone during their holiday event, you need to go. it is absolutely gorgeous. My first two times there were like during the holiday event. So then I went to the park during the summer early like, i was I guess it was during a stumble in the hole for buzz bars. And I'm like, this is weird without Christmas lights.
00:26:11
Speaker
Yeah. um If you go, make sure you sit on the wildfire deck and take all of the pictures. Yeah, at sunset especially. Plan your day around sunset at the observation deck and get the the like apple dumpling...
00:26:28
Speaker
ice cream snack that they have. Delicious. Oh, used like the, cause like the ACE coaster Christmas, they give you like a snack coupon thing. And, uh, I used it on that.
00:26:41
Speaker
And I like, we had a group of us and legitimately I was just going to eat it while walking. And I'm like, y'all, I have to sit down and enjoy this. This is too good to eat while walking. Literally all of the food that I had there the day that I was there was delicious. Yeah. Yeah.
00:26:59
Speaker
You wrote Thunderation, right? Yes, which I need to go. I'm going to make every effort possible to go back and just lap that this year.
00:27:11
Speaker
ah i'm I'm so sad about that. We don't typically talk like news on the podcast, but that was a that was kind of a sad one. Yeah, especially you know somebody like me. I just I love aero coasters so much that when I saw that the other day on Facebook, it just kind of hurt a little bit.
00:27:30
Speaker
Yeah. At least they gave us warning.
00:27:36
Speaker
It's like we have a whole year to go ride it. Yeah. Compared to some other ah park coaster closures.
00:27:49
Speaker
We're not naming names.
00:27:52
Speaker
um What other? There's more parks. Oh.
Recent Park Visits and Coaster Highlights
00:28:00
Speaker
SeaWorld Orlando. I got to cross that off my bucket list this last year.
00:28:05
Speaker
that's right, you did. Coming back from Coaster Christmas at Silver Dollar City.
00:28:13
Speaker
um that that's That's a park I've had my eyes on for a while, too.
00:28:20
Speaker
it's It's interesting seeing that park now compared to when I worked there, briefly.
00:28:28
Speaker
I keep forgetting that you worked there. Yeah, it was it was for like three months, two months, something like that.
00:28:39
Speaker
Yeah, that that park, I had two hours to cred run, which somehow I did it.
00:28:51
Speaker
um Did you get everything? I did. Let me look. Because I forgot what I wrote there.
00:29:02
Speaker
and know I wrote Mako, which is a fantastic B&M hyper. Yes, It is literally everything wanted it to be. It's still my favorite B&M hyper.
00:29:15
Speaker
And I'm not missing a lot. I still love Diamondback. No. Shout out to Billy. stan we stand Billy.
00:29:28
Speaker
He kind of turned my view around of Diamondback this last summer. Oh, I will forever give him crap. And just every time I ride Diamondback, I'm like, what is this mediocre coaster?
00:29:43
Speaker
It's just like, you shut up. but Back to the SeaWorld Orlando thing. The only two things I don't have are Journey to Atlantis and Super Grover's Boxcar Derby.
00:29:58
Speaker
and Well, you're not missing much with that one, to be fair. Actually, with both of them, because they absolutely ruined Journey to Atlantis. so um
00:30:10
Speaker
That park, or what is it? Is it Manta? Yeah. That ride is how I discovered I don't like positives that much.
00:30:22
Speaker
Thanks, Pretzel Loop. I'm not looking forward to the Pretzel Loop on Tatsu. I was just about to say, when are you going to Magic Mountain? Although, actually, add that to the list of bucket list parks. Magic Mountain.
00:30:39
Speaker
Yes. There's more parks, I just i can't think of them. What about just bucket list coasters? Not necessarily any of those parks.
00:30:57
Speaker
What if I... There's got to be... i can't I can't think of them right now. I mean... You know I gave you this list of questions in advance, right? Yeah, i I tried to come up with answers, but like... i'm And this goes with like ranking coasters.
00:31:17
Speaker
i It's very hard for me to like rank coasters because... Yeah. I like each... coaster for its own separate you know reason.
00:31:29
Speaker
Except SLCs. Those suck.
00:31:35
Speaker
There's a couple that are decent, but those are very few and far between. I mean, if you count Invertigo as an SLC, kinda. kind of mean, it's the same thing, right? Yeah, kinda.
00:31:52
Speaker
I guess you could say I've been on two Because wrote that and then whatever, ah can't think of the name. The one that was at um Six Flags America. Oh, the SLC or whatever? Yeah, yeah that one was not pleasant. It depends when you, Professor Screammore. Yes.
00:32:12
Speaker
Yeah, the one that where they changed the name of it and then closed it a year later. Yeah, bought new trains, changed the name, and then closed it. Yep. That's really the only, like, coasters that I don't like.
00:32:28
Speaker
I'm not picky. You just, if it's coaster, it's good. Coaster equals good. Coaster equals happy brain. Happy, happy.
00:32:39
Speaker
Are there any bucket list coasters that stick out in your mind? Zadra, which hopefully that'll be my hundred and fiftieth credit. wo Are you getting anything before then?
00:32:51
Speaker
No, I was going to try and um cred run a bunch of parks, you know, this off season here, but it's just not feasible. Like with my work schedule.
00:33:09
Speaker
Right. Because I work a lot. And just like start of, start of coaster season is not too much before. Yeah. Trip. Well, I know park some parks start opening up like next month.
00:33:25
Speaker
Yeah. Which is insane. No, that's a good one. Oh.
00:33:33
Speaker
We love you, Nate. Oh my God. But yeah, no. Zadra, Hyperion, Hyperia.
00:33:46
Speaker
Those are like the big ones that I can think of off the top of my head. Well, we'll get you two of the three. True. Now, you have never been to Europe, correct?
Cultural Coaster Adventures
00:33:55
Speaker
No. This would be my first international trip.
00:34:02
Speaker
So I do like asking, it's not necessarily coasters, but are there any bucket list countries that you want to visit one day? um Could be for coasters.
00:34:14
Speaker
Could be for culture. True. Hi, Gary. Shout out coasting with culture.
00:34:22
Speaker
um I would really like to go to Italy someday. I'm sorry. but I'll try not to send you too many pictures.
00:34:34
Speaker
I would like to go to Canada for Canada's Wonderland, among other other things. Right. Which I'm surprised I haven't gone there yet because I i can be in Canada in like two and a half hours. i was going to say, you're pretty close.
00:34:49
Speaker
Let's go give a Detroit a visit and hop over. I could go see Mark and Meg. Right? You could. I'd like to go to Germany.
00:35:03
Speaker
Partially for coasters, but the also like a lot of my heritage is from Germany. i don't think I knew that, actually. um Same.
00:35:16
Speaker
Yeah, that's really like what I can think of off the top of my head. i would like to go to Japan. Japan's always kind of been like, just seems cool, you know?
00:35:27
Speaker
Just very different culture. Yeah. It probably, you know, that it would definitely be a culture shock, like for me to go there.
00:35:38
Speaker
Yeah. Like Europe, at least there's a a lot of ah similarities. I'm sure there are similarities too, but for Germany, for Germany, for Japan, but yeah, one day I will get to Japan as well.
00:35:53
Speaker
Do you have any hot takes? For like. Coaster preferences and all. I have many. Let's hear some of them. Rile people up.
00:36:07
Speaker
Beast is a good coaster. Especially with like the work. That gravity group is doing to it right now. It's. It's climbing back up.
00:36:18
Speaker
In what rankings I do have. Um, I know this one's gonna, I'm going to catch hate for this.
00:36:30
Speaker
Uh, especially from my two friends back in Minnesota, AJ and Keegan. Um, wild thing is really, really boring and does nothing for me.
00:36:43
Speaker
I don't know how much of a hot take that is. Not, I haven't been on it, but I know people call it mild thing.
00:36:50
Speaker
i don't think you're alone in that sentiment.
00:36:55
Speaker
I used to think but this was very controversial. I used to think that B&M vest restraints were like the greatest thing on earth.
00:37:07
Speaker
And now you hate them Especially like going to ride Banshee. And then this last year riding Apollo's Chariot. um Yeah, vest restraints on Apollo's Chariot.
00:37:23
Speaker
ah That would certainly be a sight to see. That would certainly make a very mediocre coaster even more so. Hey, I enjoyed Apollo's Chariot, okay? It's very graceful. I'll give it that.
00:37:39
Speaker
um Definitely focuses on floater more than anything. Which I enjoy floater airtime. Before riding Alpengeist...
00:37:51
Speaker
like I thought Vestor Straints were like the greatest thing ever. And then I rode Alpengeist. And was like, oh, that these feel fine to me.
00:38:03
Speaker
um And then a couple of weeks after I rode Alpengeist, I rode Banshee again. i was like, okay, Vestor Straints on inverts kind of freaking suck.
00:38:16
Speaker
Thankfully, they're not on many inverts. Just our lovely Banshee. And which now I've, i don't want to say turned into a Banshee hater but it's kind of reached like pity ride status, if you will. Like I'll ride it like once a year.
00:38:35
Speaker
It's got to have no line or i've got to have a fast pass to blow on it. Yeah. um What are some other hot takes? What are your thoughts on Magnum?
Favorite Cedar Point Rides
00:38:50
Speaker
Magnum is a fantastic fan. hyper coaster i know people say it's rough and it needs to like be torn down and replaced with a b&m or something no absolutely not it's not my favorite but uh also absolutely no need to replace that with the b&m no it's it would also if that day were to ever come where there where they said, you know, we're taking this ride down, i would be absolutely gutted. Yeah.
00:39:27
Speaker
Along with a lot of other enthusiasts, too, because, you know, that was the original hyper coaster that was, you know, the first coaster to break the 200-foot mark.
00:39:44
Speaker
And, you know, still, to this day, it runs great. Depending on your definition of great. it has It has some jank.
00:39:57
Speaker
The Dorito Hills. but but I know many, including myself, have left that ride just bruised.
00:40:07
Speaker
I mean, my my first time riding that, maybe it was... It wasn't my first time, but it was like my first trip to Cedar Point.
00:40:19
Speaker
Um... We got a trimless ride because the train wasn't very full. But they still had three trains on. And they didn't get the train out in the station quick enough.
00:40:33
Speaker
So we came to an absolutely screeching halt in the brake run.
00:40:41
Speaker
And i had bruises on my thigh like two weeks. Jeez. Yeah, i I would be gutted if they got rid of Magnum.
00:40:52
Speaker
Yeah. You've ridden that with a Laurel a bunch, right? Yes. I thought so. Yeah, we I would. wasn't. Let me think.
00:41:03
Speaker
wasn't last year. The year before, like I had Sundays off. So I would get off work in the morning.
00:41:15
Speaker
Go home, sleep for a while. And then go to Cedar Point and just lap Magnum. All day. What's your favorite ride at Cedar Point?
00:41:28
Speaker
I guess I should know the answer to that. I was say, you should i should know the answer to this. But it's Millennium Force. I wasn't sure. Because like I got the tattoo because Millennium was my number one for like 15 years.
00:41:44
Speaker
It's not anymore. And it's not my favorite ride at Cedar Point anymore. it' What is your favorite ride at Cedar Point? ah Top Thrill. Fair.
00:41:56
Speaker
That's a very good ride. Yeah. And I do, I hate to say it, Top Thrill 2 is so much better than, as a whole package, than the original Top Thrill.
00:42:07
Speaker
Top Thrill had the launch, but I kind of love this bike. See, yeah, I go back and forth on that. Yeah, so does Top Thrill. It does. tech Technically, both versions went back and forth.
00:42:25
Speaker
Kind of. Kind of. and in um In a roundabout way. top Thrill 2 is designed to go forth and back and forth.
00:42:37
Speaker
It is. i had to work the... forth and back and forth out in my head.
00:42:48
Speaker
It's a joke about the launch directions.
00:42:54
Speaker
Listen. yeah can't wait to get back on that though. Yeah. that's like Spike is everything. It's, it's just, it's such a wild like experience.
00:43:09
Speaker
when that you know split second that you're just up there yeah looking down on you're looking down on Power Tower and the Midway and Iron Dragon and Rougarou.
00:43:23
Speaker
and that's just it's It's trippy. I always have to remind myself to look up because like you know and you if you just look forward like you do on a coaster typically you're just looking at the ground which awesome but Look up and you can just see everything.
00:43:42
Speaker
Yeah. Wild. um Also, rides in the fog on that thing are wild. Yeah.
Day Trips and Riding Anticipations
00:43:50
Speaker
I don't think I've gotten a fog ride, but. I think I rode that with ah Perry this year.
00:44:00
Speaker
And we got a ride in the fog like where the you couldn't see the top hat. Jeez. And it was it was really cool.
00:44:10
Speaker
think that was like a week, couple weeks after opening weekend. I can't remember. i remember if that was one of the trips that like Mike randomly went up.
00:44:22
Speaker
It might've been. and i don't remember. We do a lot of day trips up there. Yeah. I mean, it's three and a half hours. Yeah. Very doable.
00:44:32
Speaker
Very doable. Yes. There's also, you know, day trippable parks. Yeah. Near me that I have yet to go to. Right.
00:44:43
Speaker
I mean, i I could, if I really wanted to, i could day trip Kennywood, I think. If I tried hard enough. That's kind of like us and Kennywood. I think it's like just on the cusp of doable.
00:44:56
Speaker
Yeah. Because I know Waldemere about two and a half, three hours from me. I don't know how much past Waldemir Kennywood is.
00:45:14
Speaker
Kennywood is 4 hours 45 from us. I should look. where's my Where'd my phone go? Granted, you know, me and Mike just do really stupid trips. So what's day trip-able to some people or like whatever edge of day trip-able for some people, we usually go past that.
00:45:34
Speaker
would you Would you consider your ah trips to Epic day trips? No, not day trips, but you know a weekend driving trip.
00:45:47
Speaker
Yes. Do not recommend. for what Well, I recommend Epic, but maybe don't drive 14 hours through the night.
00:45:57
Speaker
To spend a day for a day. And then drive 14 hours back home. um Kennywood is three hours for me. Oh, that's so doable. Add that to the list of ah bucket list coasters. Phantom's Revenge.
00:46:14
Speaker
Oh, yeah. That makes sense that you want that one. I've heard the airtime on that thing. It was just insane. Yeah. And it's not just the airtime. It's also the restraints.
00:46:27
Speaker
Doesn't it have like goofy, like sideways lap bars? They. Yeah, they like, it comes down from the side. The best way to describe them is it's kind of like a pool noodle.
00:46:39
Speaker
It just feels very floppy. Is it kind of like the ah restraints on Timberliners in a way
00:46:49
Speaker
and Not as restrictive. Like you can ride that without the lap bar touching you. Okay. Yeah.
00:47:01
Speaker
Mike tried to get a whole lot room on one ride. And then like I just like touched it and it went down like four notches and then he yelled at me. but I'm like, bro, you were going to end up in the river.
00:47:18
Speaker
I missed that ride. We had some good ERT on that. Now that I'm like learning to appreciate wooden coasters a lot more. Shout out to James.
00:47:30
Speaker
We love you. um I need to go back and re-experience
00:47:38
Speaker
Ravine Flyer at Waldemere. Because i but there's just something cool about wooden coasters that it i I don't know how to explain it.
00:47:51
Speaker
Yeah. No, i mean, I know what you're saying. It's just cool. historic and it's just cool to think about those were like the only roller coasters that existed at one point. Right. Like how they figured out how to make that work.
00:48:07
Speaker
So that feels kind of like a good segue talking about like wood coasters and
Industry Innovations and Personal Preferences
00:48:12
Speaker
all that. What is your favorite thing about the coaster industry?
00:48:17
Speaker
Oh God, that's a hard question. That's a very vague question because there's so many different things. Now, are we talking about like the enthusiast side of things or?
00:48:30
Speaker
theme parks and coasters in general. Probably. great Yeah, there are like industry versus enthusiast things. I guess like I'll start with the enthusiast side of things first.
00:48:48
Speaker
Granted, I don't have a ton of experience with clubs other than buzz bars, but. Um, everybody's just been like, everybody that I talked to enthusiast wise is just so like welcoming and, you know, they all share a lot of the same, you know, things that, you know, I like ride wise you know, things like that.
00:49:16
Speaker
Um, and you you, you make a lot of friends riding coasters too. So, Mm-hmm. You don't even need to answer that, honestly. But being in a club makes it more fun. Because then, you you know, you go on these big group trips and make wild memories.
00:49:41
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. And you always end up vibing with somebody, even if it like your first event. Talk to a few people. You'll find somebody that you click with. Right. Exactly. Like, i mean, like meeting meeting you at ah Cedar Point that opening weekend.
00:50:02
Speaker
Yeah. and you know, we just we clicked instantly. Yeah. I still think it was, you know, partially the Millennium Force tattoos. yeah It certainly helped.
00:50:12
Speaker
and Just like that, I lost my train of thought again. ADHD. Listen, I'm surprised we've gotten an hour into this without too much ADHD between either of us.
00:50:29
Speaker
and I guess like with like as far industry stuff goes, like how a lot of the manufacturers now are you know innovating. Intamin, you know,
00:50:41
Speaker
building was it Falcon's flight? ah coaster off a cliff and yeah, the middle of the desert, which
00:50:52
Speaker
I kind of fangirl over Intamin. So relatable because one of my, uh,
00:51:01
Speaker
number one coasters is an Intamin and also millennium force is an Intamin. I just like Intamin's. They, they, they designed very innovative and outstanding rides.
00:51:19
Speaker
Yeah. You know, same thing with like Vekoma, you know, there's been such a, don't know if drastic or vast would be the right word, but just, you know, in the past, you know, handful of years, they've been designing rides that are just, they're fun, you know,
00:51:42
Speaker
They've had a shift in quality. Like with yeah the family boomerangs, ah the tilt coasters, like Siren's Curse. like They're just... They're awesome.
00:51:55
Speaker
They're fascinating. Yeah. Mock is getting up there, too. I have yet to ride in... I think I've ridden a Mock. Have I?
00:52:07
Speaker
Time Traveler? Yes, yes, yes, yes. I forget... I know you would have. yeah you Mock with time traveler. you know it's There's just so much innovation happening. I'm excited to see what new things come out.
00:52:25
Speaker
I don't think there's like a ton coming out this year.
00:52:31
Speaker
I mean, like whatever Adventure is working on. interested to see what that's going to be. That'll be different. Yeah. So I know we're recording this literally the day that like they announced the track arriving at Great Adventure.
00:52:45
Speaker
So, of course, Discord be popping right now. Yeah, it's. The color is gorgeous, though. that That purple really pops. You don't see very many purple coasters. I'm trying to think if I've seen any.
00:52:58
Speaker
Apollo's. Yeah. Is Valraven purple or is that more like blue? I would say blue.
00:53:12
Speaker
I should know. This is my home park. It's been a minute since I've really paid attention to Valraven. Yeah, I mean, Valraven doesn't really do much for me, so I don't really pay attention to it.
00:53:24
Speaker
Yeah. Long line for a for a coaster. Like one trick pony. Even though something was it Marcus says it's like the best drop in Ohio or something.
00:53:37
Speaker
ah that but That's a hot take. Whatever it is. is No. Yeah. No, I agree. I totally agree. See, I used to think that Valrym was good, too.
00:53:49
Speaker
mean, it's still a fun ride.
Balancing Life and Coaster Trips
00:53:53
Speaker
i mean, it's still like it is a good drop. I'll give that to dive coasters, but. i' know. The rest of it just takes everything like so slow. And that train looks like it's barely ever going to clear some of those elements.
00:54:07
Speaker
I mean, those trains have to be ridiculously heavy. Because they're just they're so wide. Gosh, the ADHD is hitting again.
00:54:19
Speaker
Yeah. Well, we're up to about an hour now. have a couple more questions I can ask you. Um, what are some of your other hobbies outside of coasters?
00:54:33
Speaker
Cause I know that's not all we do in life. Honestly, that's like the biggest thing is coasters. Well, yeah. I mean, I mean, yeah, same, but like I do other stuff outside of coasters and I know you do, you did something earlier today. I'm in a, so guess I wouldn't, i mean, I wouldn't necessarily say it's a hobby, but it's, it's more sort of get me out of the house. Um,
00:54:54
Speaker
But i'm in a yeah that counts I'm in a bowling league from through work. So I get to see coworkers and hang outside of work.
00:55:07
Speaker
Do you enjoy it? When I get strikes. Which isn't very often because I'm not the best bowler. mean...
00:55:18
Speaker
I mean, as long as you have fun with it. But like I said, it's nice to be able to get out of the house and you know see friends. and Yeah. Just hang out.
00:55:29
Speaker
Yeah. Chill. I mean, really, the other thing I do is work a lot. So so i can so i can go on these yeah trips. Because trips are expensive. When you can pull flights.
00:55:43
Speaker
Did you just make a comment about Poland flights? Uh-huh. Oh my god, I hate you. No, you don't. You won't hate me when you're in Poland.
00:55:55
Speaker
True. I'll be saying thanks, Allison, for bullying me and into buying these tickets. And then like we'll be in Poland and I'll be like bullying you for booking flights for another trip that we'll inevitably plan. Yeah.
00:56:11
Speaker
like we need to We need to plan a Silver Dollar City trip this year.
00:56:17
Speaker
Uh, we're already talking about Coaster Christmas again. Ugh. Wasn't there a Buzzbars event like that same weekend? I don't know. Is there?
00:56:30
Speaker
When is Coaster Christmas? It's usually like the first weekend of the month.
00:56:37
Speaker
Oh, is that the same as the... I'm pretty sure there's a Buzzbars event that weekend. so I'm kind of like torn. Because...
00:56:48
Speaker
Is that the Lone Star? It's either a Lone Star. I think it's Lone Star or Epic.
00:56:55
Speaker
Epic's in September. That I need to make sure I go to. Yeah. That's another bucket list park for you, as I literally wear an Epic for a shirt.
00:57:06
Speaker
Hey, I talked about Waldemere and I'm wearing a Waldemere shirt, so. I have the same shirt, too. We should twin one day.
00:57:16
Speaker
I don't wear that one very often lately. Because Ohio winter is a thing and I just live in spirit jerseys.
00:57:25
Speaker
Yeah, no, I need to go to the Epic event.
00:57:30
Speaker
Partially because I want to go back to SeaWorld Orlando and sit on Mako all day. also because epi like universe You need to sit on Stardust all day. Yeah, Stardust looks like a fantastic ride.
00:57:46
Speaker
It is. we're just That's in your top five, right? Yeah, it's number three. Yeah, I literally had to think about my top five. It's Velocicoaster, Voltron, Stardust, Terran, and I think Hyperion.
00:58:04
Speaker
Hyperion or Skyrush, but Skyrush kind of keeps dropping in my head a little bit. Yeah, um like I said earlier, it's it's really, really hard for me to rank coasters.
00:58:16
Speaker
Like each one kind of has its own special little spot.
00:58:25
Speaker
my zero coaster is Millennium, because there's, like, a deeper meaning to it for me, at least. Yeah. And then, like, the two that are tied for number one right now this will be, like, the fourth time saying it, Mako at SeaWorld Orlando and ah Pantheon.
00:58:51
Speaker
panthe home like a Pantheon. Pantheon. Oh, I love Pantheon. That ride is so good. It does not get enough credit. Like the like violent reverse ejector. Yeah. And then like the.
00:59:09
Speaker
The stall feels like it's never ending.
00:59:15
Speaker
It's just oh my God, it's so good. What's your highest ranked RMC? Or I guess even know how many you've been on. paul I can think of at least pull Log Ride back up.
00:59:26
Speaker
It's probably going to be Steel Vengeance, honestly. It's just... Cedar Point fanboy. Hey. Hey.
00:59:39
Speaker
hey Hey is for horses. to And it is the year of the horse now. Woohoo. Nerd. Nerd.
00:59:48
Speaker
Chinese aren New Year. We talked about it at work yesterday. Okay. guess I'm not, I guess honestly, like I'm really not the biggest fan of RMCs.
00:59:59
Speaker
Yeah. Same. I mean, they're fun. i enjoy them. It's just, I, I have a hard time ranking them. Yeah.
01:00:10
Speaker
My highest ranked RMC is Zadra. If that counts for anything.
Unique Coaster Experiences and Advice
01:00:17
Speaker
I mean, I guess I'll count it. um you know i have I'm going into it with like very high expectations.
01:00:32
Speaker
Hopefully it at least meets its expectations and it's not overhyped for you. I mean, I know everybody just sings, you know, such high praises for that thing.
01:00:43
Speaker
Yeah. And it it looks fun even just watching POVs. Yeah. The pacing is really good on it.
01:00:51
Speaker
I just had a heck of a voice crack right there, too. Jeez. I am getting over a cold right now, and this is why we didn't record this earlier in the week like we originally planned to.
01:01:01
Speaker
um I guess Outlaw Run at night. Yes. Very good. It was okay during the day. At night, it was awesome.
01:01:15
Speaker
Yeah. Because it's just pitch black. It's pitch black. You're just absolutely hauling butt through that layout. Yeah. And you just you get off the ride and you're like, what just happened?
01:01:30
Speaker
that is Let's go again. It's the only coaster that's really ever given me motion sickness. Really? fun fact. With the two rolls at the end. And it kind of gave me like PTSD. And like now anytime I ride that, I have to like prepare myself for the barrel rolls.
01:01:47
Speaker
Yeah. Like cleanse my jaw, close my eyes. for For me, it depends on like what kind of ride it is. Like if I get, you know, dizzy or nauseous or whatever.
01:02:05
Speaker
But I mean, sometimes I have to take medication to not be nauseous. Right. Which helps a lot. I fear I'm feeling that more with my age as I go on.
01:02:18
Speaker
Shout out to my fellow enthusiast with weak stomachs. I can't marathon rides like I used to. That's going to hurt the day that I can't marathon things anymore. Yeah.
01:02:33
Speaker
also just don't care as much to marathon anymore. Like I just go for vibes more than just like, I need to ride this 20 times in one sitting except Hyperia.
01:02:43
Speaker
See, that's, it's weird. that That's how, that's how I am with a racer at Kings Island. I could sit on that thing all day. It's, it's fun, which I know gravity group did some work to that.
01:02:59
Speaker
And it's, it runs very well now. I'm surprised how well it's ran for Winterfest the last two years. Yeah, it it runs really well at Winterfest.
01:03:13
Speaker
Now, if they could run Beast, that would be even better. and They've got Mystic. That's all I need. Mystic runs awesome in the winter.
01:03:25
Speaker
Borderline better than in the summer. No, I agree. Winterfest rides hit different. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, where where can you say that you're riding coasters in, you know, 35 degree weather in December?
01:03:43
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, I've been on it when it still had snow on the track.
01:03:48
Speaker
It was like the day after we got snow and going through the course. I'm like, oh, more snow. I was there for that, wasn't I? Probably. what on I came to Winterfest a bunch of times this year. so Yeah, true.
01:04:02
Speaker
Shout out that all the snow is almost gone from like three weeks ago.
01:04:07
Speaker
it's It's weird seeing my looking out my front window and seeing my lawn again. now i got so used to there being a massive snowbank in my front yard, and now it's gone. Oh my god, it's so nice.
01:04:23
Speaker
snowpe I keep forgetting that you're from, like, south. Yeah. i'm I'm from the north. I'm used to the snow. yeah the snow that we got, whatever, three weeks ago, four weeks ago. i forget when it was.
01:04:34
Speaker
ah that's That's the most snow I've ever seen in my life. so That was a unusually large amount of snow. for that for this area. Not for, like, what I've seen. Yeah, you're from Minnesota.
01:04:50
Speaker
The land of... i mean It's literally called the land of the north. Yeah. So you've probably seen a lot more snow.
01:05:01
Speaker
Okay. Anyway, we're ADHD-ing again. One more question before we get into our the little game that I have planned, which if you listened to the last episode, we kind of did a trial run of this. But before get into that, because, you know, ADHD.
01:05:17
Speaker
Obviously, you're still kind of new to the hobby. You've been in it for a few years. But ah what advice do you have for younger enthusiasts that are just getting into the hobby?
01:05:32
Speaker
Say a child were to look up to you for advice.
01:05:37
Speaker
Ride every credit possible. ah And ride the older rides too. like Because a lot of these older rides like with you know Thunderation going and things like that. like these The prototype rides like know when we still had King Daka. like Go ride those.
01:06:03
Speaker
Because it's getting harder and harder to get you know some of these very unique rides like those.
01:06:10
Speaker
Like, just go. Go. do it. so Just do it. um It's like your Poland flights. Just do it. Oh, my God.
01:06:25
Speaker
How many times can I bully Alex into purchasing Poland flights? The answer, Yes. At least four or five on this recording.
01:06:37
Speaker
That's not including group chats. but That's honestly like the biggest piece of advice I could give. Yeah, I think that's solid. just Just go ride. Go ride coasters, man.
01:06:51
Speaker
They make the world go round.
01:06:55
Speaker
i like that. As I'm also thinking about like taglines for the episode art. I'll have listen back to this and figure that out. Hey, that just that should be the tagline. Go ride coasters, man. I'll least write it down.
01:07:11
Speaker
Go ride coasters, man. Okay, so for my little game that i thought of ended on a fun
Coasters for Cavemen Game and Wrap-Up
01:07:20
Speaker
note. um Have you ever heard of the game?
01:07:24
Speaker
We'll make this quick. Have you ever heard of the game Poetry for Neanderthals? negatives Okay. This is inspired by that where you have to describe something using only one syllable words and the other person has to guess what you're describing.
01:07:39
Speaker
I'm calling it like coasters for cavemen kind of as a play off of that. So conveniently my sample one is think tall ride in south of states with theme of sharks. Is it Mako? Yes. Yeah. like bro It's one of your favorites. You better know this. Yeah, that's kind of the goal is like think of a coaster and then dis describe it to the other person using only one syllable words.
01:08:04
Speaker
And see if you can get them to guess it.
01:08:09
Speaker
Preferably like. Ooh, well known. o i might do the RCDB game until I can. ah Tall car fast.
01:08:23
Speaker
I mean, you can do like whole sentences too, but top thrill. Yeah. yeah Tall green ride. Kind of slow.
01:08:36
Speaker
I hear. who In place where you once lived. Wild thing. yeah i think yeah It's not slow. It's kind of meanders.
01:08:53
Speaker
It's like a monorail. Exactly. But meander three syllables and slow is not. but
01:09:04
Speaker
Oh, God. This is hard trying to like think of syllable like one syllable words to describe things. I'm just trying to think of like a coaster that we both would know.
01:09:23
Speaker
Ride near you with tall, straight, drop.
01:09:32
Speaker
Sirens? Not the one I'm thinking of. um We spoke of it. Millennium Force. No.
01:09:43
Speaker
It is blue-ish with... Oh, from Falraven. There we go. I'm like, how can I specify this enough?
01:10:02
Speaker
that wouldn't work. Oh my God. This is harder than I thought.
01:10:08
Speaker
So I'm like going on RCDB until I get like something substantial. Okay. I've been on that one.
01:10:19
Speaker
I'm going to go on Log Ride and look. let's see You should be able to get this one fairly easily. Wet Ride in South. You did not go on. Oh, Atlantis.
01:10:30
Speaker
Yeah. um There's my proof. It was on RCDB. hey That's actually a good random coaster. Start Engine. Yeah. Yeah.
01:10:47
Speaker
yeah I was trying to think of like the next thing and you beat me to it. Engine was two syllables, by the way. Oh, dang it.
01:10:59
Speaker
in In poetry for Neanderthals, you have a giant inflatable stick because you're a caveman and it has no on it. And when you play in person, you whack a person with a stick if they say a two syllable word.
01:11:11
Speaker
Okay. Maybe we can each do like one more round and then
01:11:20
Speaker
We both need a potty break. I'm trying to think of one more. um Swing under track.
01:11:39
Speaker
Swing under track. Use more words. through tree. Okay. Swing under track like through tree. I need to whack you with a stick because under is two syllables. Oh my God.
01:11:54
Speaker
Bonk. yeah I can't think of a good ah
01:12:02
Speaker
way to describe that. Oh, this is too hard. That's why it's fun. English was not my strong suit in high school. Okay.
01:12:14
Speaker
That's why one syllable words are where it's at. Well, will you try to think of another word for under that's one syllable to help me figure that one out? um
01:12:29
Speaker
I could just say, ah what's in the shed? and That's all one syllable. What in shed? What in shed?
01:12:41
Speaker
That our friend runs. Mystic. Yes.
01:12:48
Speaker
I like when they have a tagline that's all one syllables. That makes life a little better.
01:12:55
Speaker
I can't, ah I still can't think of.
01:13:00
Speaker
to describe it. It's just too hard, Allison. I was going to say, if you tell me what coaster it is, I can try to think of how to describe it. Because this is kind of. But then that would give it away. well yeah I know it would.
01:13:11
Speaker
I mean, yeah I was either going for bat or Iron Dragon. Okay.
01:13:20
Speaker
I hear a train. Yeah, i I live basically right on the other side of a train tracks. Coaster, or well, ride that hangs with track on top.
01:13:34
Speaker
In tree. through Or like through trees at fast speed and swing. I see what you mean by swing now. Okay. Yeah. Because mean like you're. Okay.
01:13:45
Speaker
Especially with like Iron Dragon you're like actually like so dipping through the trees. um Yeah. I feel with like with Bat you're just you're above the trees a lot. Yeah it's not as like.
01:13:58
Speaker
Big bad wolfy. Which.
01:14:03
Speaker
I wish I could have. I was going say, wish I could have ridden the OG version. Yeah, I had the chance to when I chickened out because I was a kid before I liked coasters.
01:14:15
Speaker
That was the same way. My first time ever like riding a coaster with inversions, my mom dragged me on SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge, which is the...
01:14:31
Speaker
Eurofighter at Mall of America. And i absolutely hated it.
01:14:39
Speaker
But, you know, look look where we are now. If it's a coaster, I'll ride it. Look where we are now at the end of our episode. Yeah. Cueing my inner Jen. I guess that brings us to the end of the episode.
01:14:54
Speaker
or whatever she says. i don't know. Something about something about talent at Dorney Park. Yeah, that too. Or Voltron at Europa Park.
01:15:06
Speaker
Anyway, um you want to drop your socials or where people can find you? I'll link them in the description still. but um This is so bad, I don't even remember my account.
01:15:23
Speaker
The Instagram is called Arrows and Aristocrats. Yes. um that's That's really the only spot I'm at now. um but I'm sure Allison can bully me to make posts yeah because I have a massive backlog of you pictures that I take every time I'm at parks. Right.
01:15:44
Speaker
Yeah, it's kind of been since June 2024. Well, I mean, even... Yeah, yeah i have pictures going back to...
01:15:55
Speaker
2018 when I started working at Mall of America. yeah Yeah, post some of those nerd shots. Yeah.
01:16:04
Speaker
Well, thank you for joining me for the first Coaster Enthusiast Conversations. We did it. We did. ah i'll so I'll see you soon. i don't know when.
01:16:16
Speaker
Yeah. It will probably be just like, hey, what are you doing this weekend? Nothing. Okay, I'm coming down. yeah We're actually getting more into like weekends are booked out. so If nothing else, we'll see you opening weekend at Kings Island.
01:16:34
Speaker
But I'm sure it'll be before then. i'm Yeah, I'm pretty sure it'll be before then too. yeah But until then, hashtag keep thinking inverted. Because I need better slogans for this podcast.
01:16:49
Speaker
I was trying to think of a cool one for me. but Keep riding arrows. or Go ride coasters, man. Yeah. That might be my new tagline.
01:17:02
Speaker
Make the Instagram bio. Go ride coasters, man. They make the world go round.
01:17:06
Speaker
i i actually really like that. and Anyway, we will see y'all next time. Adios. Bye-bye.
