Listener Nicknames and Milestone Reflections

00:00:21
Speaker
You're listening to Behind the Swords, a podcast episode about a podcast's podcast episodes.
00:00:42
Speaker
Oh. Hey, everybody. We need like a pet name for our listeners, like something cool we call the people like the sword, sword, sorter. What's up, you sheets? Hey, sheets. I don't know if I like that at all. The sheets? No, that's not good.
00:01:00
Speaker
You piece of sheaths. Okay. All right. Okay. Now we're insulting people. That's not how that's not our intention. Hello. All you lovely people who listened to our podcast. This is a behind the swords episode where we're going to take a half hour or a little more to just kind of unpack what has happened up to this point. What are we going to be up to what episode 30 at this point or beyond that?
00:01:23
Speaker
Around then. Yeah. And so, yeah, we're grateful that you guys listen. And I'm just going to take a second here to just say how cool it is that there's people who listen to our show and like tweet about it and send us questions like they did. That's pretty neat. But I also have questions of my own. So, Blaze, how's it going? Pretty good, my dude. Good. How's Ash today? I'm great. Awesome. What about you, Mikey?
00:01:51
Speaker
Uh,

Humorous Anecdotes and Debates

00:01:52
Speaker
couldn't be better. Good, good. And Derek, are you okay? I ate 3.2 donuts. I'm happy. Wait a minute. It was three earlier. I tried eating another one, but it was like a funnel cake kind of sort of donut. And I didn't like it. What were the other ones? Um, donuts. I don't remember. It's all in the past, man. I like to look at the picture. Sounds like you eat donuts like I do. Like you barely can remember what they were. You eat them so fast.
00:02:17
Speaker
There's no reason to wait on these things. There's no reason to dwell on the past. Just eat the doughnut and move on. Eat the doughnut flavor. Have your regards forever. Always and forever. I have to have coffee with my doughnut. It's too hot here for coffee. I live in Arizona. I don't want to hear it. Cold brew coffee. I like there. I should say I live in Phoenix. You live on the sun. I live just outside of the sun. Yeah.
00:02:44
Speaker
Yeah, I don't get to eat a lot of donuts because I'm trying not to jiggle as much when I brush my teeth, so. It's just an electric toothbrush, man. It solves that problem. Hey, good idea.
00:02:55
Speaker
Good idea. Anyway, let's talk about the hired swords. We've had quite the romp through Wild Hill and the Wilds and some mountains and things. And the last time we did one of these episodes, if I remember correctly, you guys were about to go into the stone mountains and go up. And you had ridden the boars up into the stone mountains. That feels like an eternity you go at this point, doesn't it? It does, yeah. Yeah, seriously.
00:03:22
Speaker
So I have some questions about some stuff, but it's none of it's really episode specific. I don't think so. We can kind of we may bring

Listener Questions from Twitter

00:03:31
Speaker
up. It may cause us to bring things up about certain episodes, but I think we're only going to discuss up to about episode 30, which Blaze will be the one that knows kind of what that might be story wise for us so he can help us. I ain't telling nobody. Yeah, he may he can help us with that if it comes to it. So he doesn't have to edit as much later if we if we spoil or something, but or he just won't release it till later, I guess.
00:03:52
Speaker
But we did send in some we did ask Twitter and we didn't ask too early. So we only had a couple hours for people to respond. So Starbuck, who is one of our awesome friends on Twitter, and she
00:04:09
Speaker
asked some questions and I'm assuming it's about your characters. Actually, we'll answer this about ourselves, yourselves and your characters. We'll answer these questions. So of the four of you, there's four questions here we're going to ask you guys to determine this. First of all, of the four of you, we'll start with you individually as players. Who do you think would be the messiest of you to live with? Are we doing this debate style or are we going around robbing?
00:04:38
Speaker
Round Robin, based on what you know about each other. Actually, we've got a roll initiative. Roll initiative. So 19. 19 for... I rolled a three. Johnson. Three for Blaze. I had an eight minus one because of donuts. Okay. Eight minus one. Seven. So we got Mikey. His first. Mine's a six. Wow. So it's Mikey.
00:05:03
Speaker
Derek and then Gwen. Gwen. No, Ash. Ash and then Blaze is last. So it's funny that like our names are all just interchangeable now. It's the same person. So, Mikey, how do you think of all of you as the messiest to live with? So from from the the character aspect, this is our characters. Well, we're going to start with you. You as people and then we'll do. Oh, actually answer both questions now. OK. You and your character.
00:05:31
Speaker
From my character perspective, I'm on the edge on whether it being Derek or Joxer. I feel like Joxer himself could leave a bunch of brew and being drunk all the time. It would be kind of rough. And Daven
00:05:51
Speaker
I just, I just don't know. He's, he's a wild card with his, uh, cooking, cooking seeds everywhere. You know, yeah. That's one time. And it probably hasn't even happened yet for you. Yeah. They probably haven't even heard that part yet. Yeah. Um, and then, uh, as for in person, Ooh, I don't know.
00:06:17
Speaker
I don't know. So I'm going to throw the DM in here. You got a lot of kids. Yeah. If you bring them with me, it is messy. Yeah. But singled off, I'm going to go with the most bachelor here. I'm going to go with Derek. Okay. Oh, snap. A fair choice.
00:06:39
Speaker
I, it's, it's true. I have to say it's me and it's not because I'm an unclean person. It's just, I don't feel like I have the time a lot of times with the work schedule and the sleep schedule that I have that a lot of times I do dishes when I walk into my house and I say, yep, I have to do dishes. And same with taking out the trash. I just take it out whenever it fills up, not when it needs to go out. When I worked shift work, it was just nothing, nothing happened in the house.
00:07:05
Speaker
So I get it. Yeah, it's because I hate it. I don't like being a messy person, but it's just kind of become a thing recently. As for characters, definitely not Davin. He uses Prestidigitation to clean himself off all the time. He's nice and clean. So I'm going to go. I'm going to say Joxer. OK, that's fair. Cool. Next is Ash. It's hard because I I also want to say Davin.
00:07:31
Speaker
but I feel like Gwendolyn's, she's not the cleanest. I mean, she literally goes back and forth being animals. I had thought about that with her too. Now it's the mud transfer. Yeah, exactly. I think it would. I imagine it's under her shoes. Like when she takes her shoes off, it's just full of dirt and everything. Her feet are completely black. So good. No joke.
00:07:51
Speaker
Yeah. Like me when I was a little kid, always playing outside barefoot. Yes, exactly. So my vote would probably have to be Gwen, for sure, is the messiest. When it comes to real life, I can be pretty messy. It's all about me joking. I don't know. I would also agree with Jackson about Mike. He's got a bunch of kids. And I just got a little dog. True. True.
00:08:21
Speaker
So. All right, Blaze. For characters, I would have to say probably Joxer, because he's got all the ingredients and all the grossness. Yeah. From his tank brews. And do monks really shower anyways? I mean, let's be real, no.
00:08:41
Speaker
As far as real life, based on the description of Derek that he just gave, I'm going to have to say Derek because I did not know that about you. And I now question having you on this podcast. I'm a very clean person. Like me, myself, I'm, I'm spotless. It's just my kitchen, really. Okay. So that represents prestiditiation, you know, perfectly. Yeah. If I had mage hand, the dishes would be done too.
00:09:09
Speaker
Press to clean up for mutations.
00:09:13
Speaker
I'd like to say that having kids has made me as an individual very clean because I'm constantly cleaning up things after them all the time.

Gameplay vs. Home Sessions

00:09:22
Speaker
That makes sense. If you were just living with me, if the five of us moved in together somewhere to do a year of podcasting together, and it was just the five of us, I'd be probably the cleanest of the group. I'd be the one always cleaning the dishes every night. I can't go to sleep at night if there are dishes dirty in the sink.
00:09:41
Speaker
Well, and I will say when I had a roommate, I didn't ever have dishes in the sink either. It's now that I live by myself and work nights. You get away with it. Yeah. And that's part of it too. Also, my wife is way more relaxed when things are straightened up. And so I like my relaxed wife better than my stressed out wife.
00:09:58
Speaker
that's the other thing. And then if I had to pick on about your characters, I would say Gwyn 100% because I mean, if does your dog tracking stuff and they're like Gwyn is I feel like Gwendolyn
00:10:12
Speaker
Regrets being born a half elf and not an animal. And so correct. I think she's going to act as much like an animal as possible, including like if she could go out and like catch a bird in the air with her mouth and then bring it and lay it on your front porch like she'd be that that person or whatever. I think I think I really messed up. It's got to be Dale with all his nuts. Oh, my gosh. Dale. That's true. We didn't make the most mess.
00:10:37
Speaker
Okay, same question. This is the same rules, but who takes the last bowl of cereal's worth of milk and then leaves not enough in the jug?
00:10:47
Speaker
Oh, that's rude. Oh, that's a hundred percent not going to be me as a person. No, I use water instead of milk. Oh, my God. And your cereal. No, I'm kidding. I'm kidding. It's going too far. Don't hurt me. It should be so easy to clean. Right. I.

Remote Recording Challenges

00:11:08
Speaker
Yeah, I don't even like leaving milk in a bowl because I've lived with people who are like, there's like a couple of drops of milk in a bowl instead of just rinsing it out. I don't understand why that would be a thing. Who would be most likely to do that?
00:11:26
Speaker
Gosh, I'm I'm just going to have to go out in the dark and in choose. I don't know, Ash. It's I'm just throwing out a name for people. She's so offended now. Did you hear that? Wow. Angry. I hope we might turn soon.
00:11:42
Speaker
Yeah. And then as for characters in this dish, best served cold. Enjoy your cold revenge cereal. Yeah, as a as a marshmallows. I'm going to go.
00:12:02
Speaker
Honestly, yeah, I'm just going to go with Krigs. I'm just I'm throwing out names, but Krigs just because he's he's you know, he's kind of the smaller guy and I don't I don't know. He's he's just going to he's older. He's crotchety and he left a note on the fridge to get some more and you didn't. So your own fault is that the problem was is the note was too far down on the fridge. Nobody saw it. And it was written in Dordish. So yeah.
00:12:27
Speaker
So only one of us would probably be able to read that right now. Yeah. Right. For the most part, I definitely agree with the Craig's part because he just seems like the kind of guy that he's like, he doesn't care. He's going to take the last of the milk and leave just a little bit and be like, Oh, well, sorry. Um, as far as people goes, um, it's definitely not me. I'm the kind of person that like, I could be starving, but I'm not going to take that last slice of pizza. And then if somebody else might want it.
00:12:52
Speaker
So I'm the same way with milk, I suppose. I guess I'm just going to throw a random name out there and say plays. I see how it is. That's cool. Nash. As a character, I feel like. I feel like Craig's are. Well. I almost want to say Joxer would leave the last thing of milk, but would he leave it?
00:13:19
Speaker
I'll try to speak it in some kind of. Yeah, maybe. Yeah, he would. Yeah, he would finish it somewhere. Right. Somehow it would be going not

Character Relationships and Theories

00:13:30
Speaker
a little bit left. That's fair. I don't want to say you're putting too much thought into such a silly question, but you were putting too much thought into a silly question. As people, I don't even eat cereal. Yeah, I really don't ever eat cereal either. So.
00:13:47
Speaker
Joke's on you. Yeah. But if I had to blame, I'd probably blame Blaze. Too against you. Nice. OK. OK. Speaking of Blaze, you get to your revenge now. All right. Well, I hope this stings. But for the person leaving the last little bit of milk, I'd have to go with Craig's. And it does sting.
00:14:14
Speaker
As far as the person leaving the last bit of milk, it's all of you terrible people that pointed me out. You're all the worst. Enjoy your milk. I'm not even that big of a fan of milk. Enjoy your milk. Yeah, I don't like milk that much. I would say character wise, I agree with Krigs for the same reason unanimous that I would say that it is me as a person
00:14:41
Speaker
Cause I'm old and crotchety and I have kids. I'm going to probably do that. I have kids every freaking time we answer a question, but in my house, if you don't get what you want, it's gone. So if you like, just get it. And, but I wouldn't leave enough in the, I wouldn't leave like a little bit in the jug. I would just like.
00:14:59
Speaker
That's my life motto. Just get it. Just get it. Get that on a t-shirt. Wow. I just feel like it's torture. Just leaving a little bit of something. Why? I would just pour extra in my own cereal and just shotgun it. Now, I eat cereal in yogurt now, so coconut milk yogurt. What? Yeah. Who are you? We don't have any cow's milk in my house at all.
00:15:28
Speaker
Cause everyone's drinking the dairy, including me. Oh my gosh. That's right. It's. Yeah. Michael's family for everyone listening is allergic to everything. They are the boys. They're probably allergic. Yeah, it's true. It's true, which is funny. Cause this next, this next question I will answer first because it's very relevant to brings home stray cats all the time for characters. I believe it's going a hundred percent for persons, people. It's going to be me.
00:15:58
Speaker
Because you did this? I do now. We live out here now. You know where we live. You guys have all been here. And there are stray cats everywhere. And I'm always taking a little bit of my dinner out and leaving it out, hoping that one will stick to my family and stay around constantly. That's adorable. And I didn't know that. None of them will do it. I can't pet them. I can't love them. I can look at them and watch my kids love them, which is the reason I want to do it.
00:16:23
Speaker
But I love little cats and kittens and every kitty cat picture, and I want one so bad, but I'm deathly allergic to them. When I moved Blaze and he has his cats, I had to take two of the 24 hour Claritin to not die while I was moving his furniture. So just because the cats are there. But I love them. So anyway, go ahead. Let's go with Mikey. Who do you think? So I'm going to go with Blaze.
00:16:50
Speaker
just uh blaze seems to uh be at least out of the group that i've i've been around minus learning about this about you um uh has has the most interest in cats um and then i mean if if someone doesn't say gwen i would be very confused yeah i think we can all agree it's gonna be great right yeah
00:17:12
Speaker
I don't know. I feel like Krigs would see a cat and be like, Gwen would probably like this and bring it home. Oh, that's what he's doing as a gift. OK, here we have a we have a cabin cat now. Oh, I'm making this. Don't worry. I'm making notes. Yeah. All right. DM notes made. What if you find a never mind? Displace your beast or something out there.
00:17:35
Speaker
If it's a small one, it'll be a little puppy one, like a little baby displacer beast. Oh my gosh. Yes. All that right now.

Character Quirks and Influences

00:17:42
Speaker
Um, yeah, that was, uh, but did everybody answer that already? I mean, we all agreed. It's Gwen and it sounds like it's you from what you said. I know I kind of, I almost had a cat one time. There was a cat that used to sleep on my back patio. That wasn't mine. I think it was a stray, but I named him. It was secret agent Baxter McGillicuddy.
00:18:00
Speaker
That's good. And then one time you just disappeared. I'd have to say Krigs and myself, because I love cats so much. Send me photos of your cats, please. Yeah. I'll tell a sad story. Ready? Let's cry. Get ready to cry. So. Nope. Uh, I am not letting that story be heard. It is far too sad. Edit it out.
00:18:23
Speaker
Oh, I'm going to have to edit this out. This is making me. It was super sad. Well, thanks for coming to the Behind the Swords, everybody. Well, we're cutting the shorty today. I hate this story. Well, my kids loved Kat, loved Kit very much. And now I'm a cat person because I saw the love my kids had for that cat and the love she had for them. And I'm like, OK, I'm sold. I never was a cat person before that. OK, you can cut all that out. But anyway, next question, right?
00:18:53
Speaker
Yes. All right. This next question is kind of related to the first question. I think it may be the same answers. Whose room smells the worst, Mikey? Ooh. Ooh, that's a rough one. So I'm going to default back. And for people, and this is just for the sake of, I'm going to go for the bachelor, Derek. But I'm really just leaning on that bachelorism.
00:19:23
Speaker
Hey, I'm the only one who lives alone as far as I know. Yeah. And then as for characters, I'm going to go with Gwen. Oh, she I mean, the same justification that was used for dirty. I don't she's she she grew up kind of weird. It's just not really a litter box in her room.
00:19:48
Speaker
Yeah, she's going to have a bunch of very like, I mean, various animals. I could just imagine it smelling like like like a farm almost. Yeah. And you would think like Dale needs a litter box for Dale. Yeah, it's going to be musty in there. Mm hmm. Or is he like every girl ever who does not go number one or number two? Yeah, they don't do that. Yeah, they don't do that.
00:20:15
Speaker
It's not a thing. Okay. I'm not going to, I'm not going to be mean until anybody else, their house stinks. So I'm just going to say myself, even though it's nice. Although Michael, you do have kids.
00:20:30
Speaker
Keep saying that, and I will say, there are portions of my house that stink. My bedroom is definitely not one of those places. Yeah, same way. My bedroom is always clean. Because I also have a wife who's a very clean person, and she makes sure. It doesn't smell good because of me. It smells good in spite of me.
00:20:53
Speaker
I for as for the characters in the game, I'm going to go with a three way, a three way tie between the three of you guys, because I feel like Kriegs probably is not the cleanest person in the world when it comes to his room. I beg your pardon. I don't have a room first off. I have a chair. That military training, though.
00:21:12
Speaker
Okay, yeah, that's true. I feel like Jox is letting his whole brew station kind of spill over into his personal life. So as long as the whole the whole is closed, so I just imagine it as a giant trash can. I'm just throwing my brew back in the hole, you know, it's fine. And then with Gwen, let's be honest, she poops in the corner of her room. Whoa, whoa, whoa. You don't know about time.
00:21:38
Speaker
She it's tiny poops because she'll turn into a mouse or something She wildshapes drops a few pebbles off and does your your poop wild shape with you Oh, does it change size? Walk away from a giant human turd
00:22:07
Speaker
Oh, did that thing do that? Like Jurassic Park. That's one big pilot. Yeah, that's no ordinary squirrel. Wow. What? How'd we get there? All right. Ash, I think it's your turn to answer. Huh. Yeah, I think it is. She's upset. Huh. I think my room would maybe be messy, but I feel like Daven just
00:22:33
Speaker
He just goes to sleep. He seems like he just passes out wherever he is, and then he doesn't care. He cares about his looks, but not how his room would look. This is just getting personal, I think. I feel like Starbuck is just like the Sunny Bono of, or not the Sunny Bono. What's her name? From the Beatles. I can't think of words now. Dang, I can't think of it either.
00:22:53
Speaker
Yoko Ono? Yoko Ono. Starbuck, you're the Yoko Ono of the hired sword. You're going to break this up. Tearing me apart, Lisa. Trying to break up the podcast. She wants a spot. She's just like, I don't care which one leaves as long as I get to fill the spot. Yeah, exactly. And as far as real life, I don't know. My rooms smell nice. They look nice. I don't know about you guys.
00:23:23
Speaker
Uh, maybe blaze. I'll take it.
00:23:28
Speaker
As far as the characters are concerned, I don't know if you've ever smelled fermenting items, but is definitely Joxer has the stank room. That's kind of what I was thinking. Yeah. There's no way around that. And as far as like real life, I'm totally comfortable taking it because I got two cats that like to poop in my living room while I'm watching TV. That's a good point. I can get funky. Oh, I can get real funky. So I have no animals. So, yes, I agree to know.
00:23:57
Speaker
I mean, they're just like, sup, like, oh, OK. Wow. What a mic drop. Well, I will say say what you want about kids, but I don't know when my kids poop. So I'm sure they do it. This question turn into a question about messiest room smell. Yes. And apparently that's the only thing that's. Oh, you're talking about some poop.
00:24:27
Speaker
Every one of us poops. It's okay. You're no more old. And Dale doesn't poop, though. Yeah. He just gets a little bit of stuffing that pops out of his butt every once in a while. Oh, no, I don't want to think about my good boy that way. Don't you talk about that good boy that way?
00:24:53
Speaker
That's a good boy. You don't talk about that good boy. That's the end of the stir-but questions. Now that we are fully divided. Yeah, now that we basically hate each other, let's keep going. Yeah, I should have done those last, right? So here's the questions that are related to the actual game and campaign a little bit. A little bit. The first question I want to ask is, how is playing a Dungeons and Dragons character for a podcast different than just playing for a home Dungeons and Dragons game?
00:25:24
Speaker
I should have known this question was coming. Oh, why? Oh, it's important, I feel like. Oh, yeah. I think I think immediately you're you're just a lot more conscientious of what you're saying. Although, you know.
00:25:43
Speaker
I think I am. At least from being a DM, I can have a lot different vocabulary for situations.
00:26:01
Speaker
And yeah, I mean beyond that, it's just trying to think a little bit further ahead because you know it can be more difficult if you say something out of place. Yeah, that's a good answer. Derek?
00:26:20
Speaker
We actually talked about this a little bit on my other podcast, the Moose List podcast, when you kind of get started on there. Nice blog, man. Nice. We kind of throw it in there. No. We did discuss this a little bit and how with a podcast, you have to be aware of what's going to be entertaining for the audience. In a regular campaign, it's really easy to get slogged down with things that don't matter, but it doesn't matter that you're spending the time on it either.
00:26:48
Speaker
So you could just talk in circles for a little while when it comes to planning, or you can get distracted with conversations that don't even have anything to do with the game. Here, we have to make sure we stay focused and actually have a story that people can follow instead of just four idiots, five idiots standing around just joking about stuff like this. Yeah, that's more what we do on these behind the scenes ones. Ash? I can agree with both guys on this. A lot of the stuff that we do for the podcast, like all the ums and
00:27:19
Speaker
Joke's outside of telling the story, but the podcast D&D is more focused on getting your story across, getting your character established, more so in a sense of like backgrounds and whatnot.
00:27:36
Speaker
Whereas playing D, playing D, playing D and D and with just friends and not recording, um, you can get away with a lot more stuff. I feel like a lot more lounging around a lot more side quests in a sense.

Episode Conclusion and Listener Interaction

00:27:55
Speaker
And this one podcasting just is a little bit more focused, I guess without it sounding like it's a job. It's not a job. It's a fun thing to do, but yeah, good point.
00:28:07
Speaker
Blaze? I don't have to worry about dead air or editing in real life. Yeah. Yeah. Dead air is your worst enemy. New Year's is going to be production related because you do all of it. I was going to say you do the bulk of it, but bulk means all, 100% at this point. So it's like 103%, you know? Yeah. I just show up and do a bad Irish accent and leave. You do everything in between.
00:28:32
Speaker
And I try not to be deaf and sex and also so contagious. And I feel really good when I remember to mute when I have to call for something and I'm like, Oh man, I'm doing such good production work. This is my next level recording. Yeah. I'm professional so much place should be so happy for me. Yeah. He owes you.
00:28:56
Speaker
As far as playing D&D on having to play online, like behind the curtain, we're playing online, we're all remote from each other. I. It is different, I imagine, whenever you're able to have like actual table talk, everything that we say is picked up by a microphone and on tape, so.
00:29:22
Speaker
You kind of have to have your narrative as well as your intent in your saying without not even metagaming, but there is no table talk really, besides like sorting out numbers in combat. You can't just have that friendly conversation outside of character as easily.
00:29:41
Speaker
or even inside character. You know, you can't just like have a quick little side thing you say, you know, that Davin says to Gwen or something while somebody else is having the main conversation because it all just comes a jumbled mess when you're recording. Yeah. Yeah. And you can't even like make eye contact to go, oh, we're going to do a thing here. Get ready. You know, there's none of that. So I was thinking about that this last episode we just recorded. Some of that would have been a lot easier back and forth if we could see each other. It's just an extra challenge to make to keep it from sounding cold. Yeah. Yeah.
00:30:11
Speaker
As a dungeon master, I prepare a lot more for the podcast than I have other campaigns that I've done.
00:30:18
Speaker
Uh, because I, I want this all to go somewhere, you know, and I want a game to go somewhere, but it's, it's, it's easy to satisfy the guys at the table with you that are playing and having fun. And they're like, Hey, that was great. Good ending. You know, but, uh, and to me, I stress out the most about wrapping things up and tying up loose ends. So feeling like I have to do that is probably the biggest difference.
00:30:43
Speaker
Not really feeling like I have to do it, because I think playing not recording, I want to do that too. But the pressure of however many the tens and tens of listeners hearing it makes me go, gosh, I don't want to wrap this up in a way that everybody hates and they don't want to listen to our podcast anymore. And then they find a new Dungeon Master and I'm just listening to another D&D podcast going, I remember when they were my friends too.
00:31:12
Speaker
I don't like the way 10s and 10s sounds. 10s and 10s of listeners. Yeah, 10s and 10s. Eights of dozens. How's that better? Eights of dozens. All right, next question is this. What relationship within the party has surprised you the most?
00:31:35
Speaker
I think going into it, since Joxer did have a little bit of backstory with Blaze, I thought there was going to be a little bit more succinctness there, but David and Krigs really took off together. Their yes-ands have been on spot. Yeah, that's good.
00:31:58
Speaker
I think I agree with that. I want to say Daven and Gwen because I feel like we've had some fun moments, but I do really like the moments with Daven and Kriegs. Yeah. What about you, Ash?
00:32:15
Speaker
I agree with Derek on the Gwendolyn and Daven thing. I could see that coming a mile away just because he's the group therapist and she's going to be really emotionally attached to him. But surprising wise, I do agree that Daven and Craig's, I wasn't expecting their relationship to happen as far as characters. I also feel like there is going to be another one between Joxer and Gwen coming up because I think- You guys will have your moment.
00:32:44
Speaker
Yeah, because we've kind of been distant, but I have a feeling she's going to. Something is going to spark her because I feel like they've been kind of on the same wavelength after a certain episode, which I will not spoil as far as their intentions with what's going on in Wild Hill. So I'm I will be excited to see it. Yeah, cool place. Um.
00:33:14
Speaker
Probably Joxer and Denaldi. Oh, my gosh. Real love, love thing going there. Oh, God. Are you shipping Joxer and Denaldi? I would have to say the one that I am the most surprised about. Hmm. I want to say Daven and Krigs, but like it sort of makes sense that. He I don't know.
00:33:45
Speaker
Maybe honestly, I'm going to go the opposite direction. Maybe the sort of tumultuous relationship between Krigs and Joxer has surprised me.
00:34:00
Speaker
Maybe Joxer is just a little more snotty than I expected. Oh, yeah. Now fighting it. So he knows. Yeah, I'll tell you and listeners, Joxer is nothing like what I thought he was going to be. Nothing.
00:34:22
Speaker
The things things just kept on laying out in front of them that did not go in the direction that interesting. Yeah, just just didn't didn't follow. Well, this is one of those people as well that like he doesn't often. I mean, I can't really speak for this. I don't feel like he often puts his foot down really like hard on something.
00:34:47
Speaker
But to be questioned or to be kind of held accountable for the handling of the Delmar situation has kind of put a sort of bad taste. Even though it was sketchy, he feels like he knew what he was doing. Yeah.
00:35:08
Speaker
Interesting. Sketchy. You lived with crime. All right. Next question is, who do you think is the big bad in this campaign? I know. Mikey.
00:35:27
Speaker
Oh, God, it's it's been it's been killing me because there's we we kind of have a couple of a couple of big names and some we haven't met. I originally thought the chief was definitely going to be someone, but then it was too obvious. And then and then now there seems to be I'm pretty sure Durnaldi will be out by the time they're like a more
00:35:55
Speaker
information about him yeah yeah so right now especially as jocks are jocks are sold under naughty but it feels like there's there's a i don't know a bit of a shadow leaning from the tower that is pointing to where the money is coming from
00:36:17
Speaker
Yeah. And I'm starting to think that wherever that money is drawn is where we're actually pointing towards. And I think one of our more recent episodes, we learned a little bit more about some of the money that's moving. Cool. Derek?
00:36:42
Speaker
I don't want to say what if I'm right. I'm not going to say my answer. I'm not going to say anything. You're right or wrong.
00:36:52
Speaker
I, I'm going to say at this point and we have very little to go off of, but my instinct as Derek is that it's going to be Hurley and we haven't actually met Hurley yet. Oh, that's not my answer. That's interesting. We do know that he has money. I don't know when this is going to release, so I don't want to say too much about it, but we've learned a couple of things about him that make me think that maybe he has some sort of interesting ulterior motives.
00:37:19
Speaker
Yeah, that's that was the end bit that where that money is going. Yeah. Ash, capitalism. So I have two suspicions. But the first one being, I think it's Tomba because he is. You took my answer. You're sus. I am.
00:37:42
Speaker
Ever since, I think there was an insight check that I had done, and it was at the first or second gathering of Pirate Swords members. And when I did an insight check, he had a limp. And it was, he was kind of like, it felt like he was faking it from the way Mike was describing it. And so I've been a little uneasy about him as a player. I also think it might be Widow Tolliver.
00:38:10
Speaker
Something with her husband, maybe it's her husband's ghost. We do know there's something weird about her too that we haven't discovered. Well, not necessarily weird, but she has a backstory that we were supposed to kind of look into and we just kind of ignored. Yeah. Yeah. Nah, when I get it out. Bam.
00:38:30
Speaker
Well, I was going to go with Tomba, but hey, two for two. I like it. I mean, honestly, is it not Dale? Uh-huh. That's what I was going to say. I was going to say, well, you're all wrong. It's Dale. Oh, my God. Good boy. Yeah. OK. Tell that to you. I won't say I'm not suspicious of Dale. I am actually a little suspicious of Dale.
00:38:57
Speaker
If Gwendolyn found out that it was Dale, her world would be crushed. You don't know me. So devastated. You don't know. You don't know what I get up to at night. You don't know. Gwendolyn, what do you think I'm doing? I'm having your bag all day. I just get real tired. I'm tired of all of the trail mix and sass you've been giving me, girl.
00:39:25
Speaker
You don't know. I'm evil. What of it? Take me out of the forest. We almost killed in school. Whatever. You stink.
00:39:36
Speaker
Can you believe that? Oh, my God. He is. He's surly. Yeah, he is uncalled for. Oh, God. Totally was. Oh, just because he hasn't he hasn't pooped in a while. Dale, how do you get in this recording? Yeah, why? I mean, I shouldn't have given him a mic. You give me a mic because I took a mic. Oh, just you can't let him walk all over you like that, Blaze. Man, I thought months are supposed to be peaceful people, but that chipmunk is no monk.
00:40:06
Speaker
It's a chip off his shoulder, monk. Okay, no more puns. We had way too many puns going on. All right. All right. All right. All right. One more question. I don't want to ask you this question. You kind of answered it. Yeah, you kind of answered about your character.
00:40:29
Speaker
Well, I will. We kind of asked this question on the first time we did it, and I think I'd like to get an updated answer. What do you think? How is your character different than you expected? I know Jock, we kind of heard about Jockster already, but what about the rest of you guys?
00:40:46
Speaker
Mikey, do you want to add anything? You can go first because you are supposed to go first. I mean, just overall, Joxer is just... I knew he was going to be a little bratty based on his background to an extent, but he's getting a little more louder about things, and he doesn't want to listen to anybody, so it's interesting to me.
00:41:12
Speaker
I would say for Daven, it's almost the opposite. I wasn't expecting Daven to be this kind and caring of a person. I figured he'd be a little bit more selfish and a little bit more standoffish, kind of doing his own thing, but he's not at all. He's a team player. Very much. Ash? When I planned Gwendolyn, I planned her to be
00:41:36
Speaker
And by chance, it happened to be goofy and kind of doofy. I didn't mean for those to rhyme, but spoofy and spoofy and roofy. No, not that one, not that one. I wanted her to be the clumsy girl who's new to the world, almost like a child. Like she's still learning to be a druid, but she doesn't know how. And I feel like now she is an emotional roller coaster.
00:42:05
Speaker
Because I think adulthood, it's almost like reaching adulthood, like my life every day where she's learning more about the world and the more she learns about it, she is not liking it, especially being here in Wild Hill. So we're seeing more anger and more ups and downs. I wasn't expecting to be such a hothead. Yeah, me neither. And I thought she's just going to be goof girl and just be a cat and just hang out with the group.
00:42:36
Speaker
Or an octopus. Or an octopus, yes, exactly. Blaze, what about Krigs? I'd have to say for Krigs, honestly, I expected him to be a little, maybe more heartless based on backstory. I expected him to be kind of like a lot more gruff, but he is just a sweet boy.
00:43:02
Speaker
Yeah, I I've always kind of subscribed to the characters that I write. I can't say everybody, but the characters that I write are just like versions of myself. I agree with that 100 percent.
00:43:17
Speaker
And Craig's, I don't think has been an exception, even though I thought of him as one whenever I wrote him. But as situations arise, like I find myself addressing them kind of how I would. And maybe that's bad acting, but I kind of have to stay true to him. And it turns out he's very much a version of myself.
00:43:41
Speaker
I totally like it happens. It feels weird because every time we get ready to do a session, I'm in a mood for that day. And that's usually going to be the mood that Gwendolyn's going to be. So do we need to start getting warnings before we start recording? No, actually, I kind of expected it based on like conversations that I picked up on from work talk. I was like, Oh, it's going to be a fun one.
00:44:11
Speaker
She's definitely become the wild card, that's for sure. All right, guys, well, that will conclude our
00:44:19
Speaker
Q&A session behind the swords episode. Thank you everybody for listening. Thank you guys for answering some questions. And honestly, if anybody wants to submit questions for the hired swords at any point, when we record another one of these, we'll just kind of save the backlog of those questions and answer them as we go next time too. Or you know, just ask us on Twitter. We can just answer them then. Yeah, I'll probably just have them saved up and we'll answer them whenever.
00:44:48
Speaker
Sounds good. Alright, thanks so much and we'll see you on the next episode. Bye. Bye.
00:45:07
Speaker
Hey guys, Dale here. Just wanted to say like, super cool you guys have been listening. It's super surprising you can listen to these other nerds as much as you have. Just kidding. I super love them. Like a lot. Alright, bye.
