Podcast Status Update

00:00:04
Speaker
This is not a regular episode of The Hired Swords. This is a brief update. Sorry.
00:00:24
Speaker
So hello and welcome to this short little update on the where we're at with the Hired Swords. I'm Michael, your Dungeon Master, and I am alone today. There's nobody else with me, and that's part of the issue.

Challenges and Scheduling Conflicts

00:00:36
Speaker
yeah So for the first time in nearly five years of recording the Hired Swords, I think it's the first time, we have run out of episodes, quote, in the can to publish in between our opportunities to get together to record.
00:00:50
Speaker
You've probably noticed over the years, a lot of our episodes, we've recorded months before they were released because we would have a nice little season of being able to get together, record for a while, like several weeks in a row, or maybe do a couple episodes at a time, and then we wouldn't be able to for whatever reason. And the reasons are simple. The same reason everybody has trouble getting together to play a TTRPG or get together with friends as adults is, you know,
00:01:18
Speaker
Everybody that is in the show are adults with full-time jobs. I have a family, a wife and kids. the I think everybody else except Derek, yes, is is like has relationships that they're keeping up with and family stuff. And so when a family member gets sick or when...
00:01:35
Speaker
Something happens, it just messes with the schedule to get together to play a game like this and even record a podcast. This is not a job. We don't get paid. We never have.
00:01:46
Speaker
no I don't think anybody... I think we've spent

Passion Project and Future Plans

more on this. I know we've spent more money on this just through web hosting and publishing software and all that than we've ever made. so This is just a project of fun and love and enjoying getting together with our friends. And we get in the chat. I promise you, we get in the chat on Discord every week and we post, here's all the dates, who's available for the next couple weeks. And we just haven't been able to nail one down where all five of us can do this. We think we may have some time at the beginning of September.
00:02:18
Speaker
And the goal there is to try to get together for one big long recording where we just finish up the story of the Hired Source. We are in conversation on what to do after this is done. We don't know for sure if we're going to keep playing Dungeons & Dragons. We're going to try some other game systems.
00:02:35
Speaker
We don't know if we're going to do anything at all. we we The general consensus with everybody is that we'd like to do something. So... We're going to talk through that. It will not be, i know for sure, it won't be another long-form campaign like this, at least for a while.

Approaching Milestones and Audience Appreciation

00:02:52
Speaker
This is fun, and it's been cool to do. It's the first one that I will have done to completion like this, ah which is pretty awesome. I've had several that have like season one's completed, but we kind of continued and then didn't finish.
00:03:05
Speaker
this is the first time I've done anything that's really gone all the way to the end of a story, which we're going to be doing in the next episode or two. ah Hopefully one, but we'll see. This is combat's not going how I expected. So we'll find out how that goes.
00:03:18
Speaker
um But just wanted to give you guys just a little behind the scenes, just kind of update for the few listeners we've got that, hey, we are not sitting on episodes that aren't being published. We're literally having a hard time getting together to finish out this story as as a game. So what you'll get is probably a off-schedule release of...
00:03:37
Speaker
whatever episode we record and it might be very lightly edited. Uh, we're going to talk about that, but, um, trying to just get it out. So you, so, so listeners can hear it and have it.
00:03:49
Speaker
Um, cause the editing can take a while cause you, you wouldn't believe how much just rule look up and stuff like that. As much as makes it in the shows, imagine how much we cut out. So, uh, that's, that's just kind of how it goes in a situation like this. And in these kinds of, um, these kinds of scenarios. So, uh,
00:04:07
Speaker
I've done podcasts for a long time, and this is just how this works, is you you get you hit scheduling conflicts. So I appreciate you guys listening, and I'm grateful that you want to hear more and have more story and that you're kind of bought into this story with us. It's really fun to think about the fact that there's people who listen to the story that we're creating together, and it's really fun. So...
00:04:29
Speaker
Yeah, you can go to thehiredswords.com and check out our website if you want to send us any messages or say anything about any suggestions about what we could do next, what you'd like to listen to if we do more content. um Let us know if you want to hear a Behind the Swords on just the whole campaign. I've had a couple people say they'd like that, but those didn't get a lot of listens in the past, so maybe we won't make them. I don't know.
00:04:52
Speaker
It's actually a pretty easy lift, though, so we may would do it because it's pretty simple to make. But anyway, I've rambled for about five minutes, and... I just wanted to update you on what's going on. So thanks a lot for listening to our show and very hopeful that you'll be getting a new episode in the next little bit.
00:05:10
Speaker
So thank you very much. We'll see you later. Bye. Bye.
