Hey, we're back. Hey, that's who you are. No, well, we're not back. It's just a continuous show where it's just split up in different segments, split up different weeks, and then we piece it all together into one show.

Mixed Berry Ryeway Rye Ale Review

00:01:05
Speaker
Well, we're doing back-to-backs after the final pours tonight. And you have provided the mixed berry rye way rye ale, which is a razz berry, blackberry, boysenberry, and cranberry ale.
00:01:20
Speaker
It says, a carefully selected blend of Ryway barrels provides a glossy oak-rich canvas for a raspberry, blackberry, boysenberry, and crabberry medley, bursting with a finely tuned continuum of sweet and tart. Enjoy now or store cold. Which means you can age this one, which I found very interesting right before we started recording, that this one says, you know, enjoy now or store cold. So you don't want to let this one sit, you know,
00:01:50
Speaker
S.A.C. Yeah. Maybe because there's real fruit in here. You could have a problem

Flavor Profile and Aroma

00:01:56
Speaker
on your hands. Well, smelling it right away, it tastes like Ryway. Gotta be honest. There's that like, maple-y, barrel smell to it. Almost like syrup. To me at least, I get that.
00:02:12
Speaker
but I feel like I get that from Ryway often and the color of it is like a deep, deep, rich purple. It looks very, very cool. You've taken a sip. Why don't you tell people what you think? I'm going to take a sip now. I definitely get all of those flavors in that beer.
00:02:34
Speaker
whoa it's a punch in the mouth in the best way possible yeah yeah totally like just comes at you and coming at you which was your catch line on the paleo wow holy moly it's shocking how well that comes through

Cranberry Tartness and Booziness

00:02:54
Speaker
You know, Clark had, uh, what's up, Clark, Clark had checked this in recently and, um, he had said something about being like kind of sour and tarp. And then it was boozy on the end. And I agree with him 100%. It's not hot, but there's that, that barrel, um, that barrel characteristic at the end of this. But man, you really can raspberry blackberry boys. And I've never had a boysenberry, but I do get that.
00:03:21
Speaker
raspberry, that blackberry, and the cranberry. The cranberry is where I think the tartness is really coming in for me. Totally. Yeah. My god. This is a good temperature, too, that we're drinking this at.

Beer Pairing and Settings

00:03:37
Speaker
It's not super cold. But see, this is something that I think
00:03:42
Speaker
Would be really good to drink, as you said, with the supermassive cafe death. This would be a good, um, fireside beer. Totally. You know, sittin' by the fire, hot night, or, you know, warm night, but you had a fire going or sittin' in the yard and having this, like, really cold or, like, nice and chilled. This would be really tasty. Cold as well, I think. Agreed. What the fuck's a boysenberry, by the way?

Boysenberry Origins Joke

00:04:08
Speaker
It's a berry. Made by boys. Yeah. It's the boys in berry. Yeah. It's like a crew, boys and berry. Oh, that's a good, like, 90s, you know, maybe hip-hop or pop dance group. Yo, what's up? We're the boys in berry. No? It's some guy named Barry. Yeah, yeah. It's the boys with Barry, but Barry's the DJ, probably.
00:04:33
Speaker
This is solid, man. This is, this is, this is really good.

Admiration for Barrel-Aged Beers

00:04:37
Speaker
We already, I'm not going to go over and praise Rev again for 20 minutes. Like we did the, there's a Ryway on my phone and Ryway on my sticker. Cause I just tried swirling. Whoopsie doodle. Ooh boy. There's no head on it and there's no head forming. Nope. While I, oh wait, hold on, hold on.
00:05:04
Speaker
You guys can probably hear that. That's pretty aggressive. Nope. That's just bubbles. That's just bubbles. There's no, oh man. That does open it up though. That smells like a nice, ooh. Yeah. Man. I, I want revolution to stop making barrel aged beers.
00:05:31
Speaker
Because every time I see him, I'm like, I have to buy that, I have to buy that. And each time I try a new one, it kind of, I feel like, no, this one's my favorite. No, this one's my favorite.
00:05:46
Speaker
VSOD still remains one of my all-time favorite barrel aged beers

Pricing and Cold Storage

00:05:51
Speaker
from them. Very special. It's just so rich and tastes great. Like that I have no problem spending $35 to $40 on. I understand why this is a $40 four pack though. I mean it's $10 per can basically but
00:06:07
Speaker
aging it and it being an immense amount of fruit, I'm imagining, real fruit they put in there, I think that has to do something with the, you know, enjoy now or store cold. Store cold for freshness, yes, but also,
00:06:24
Speaker
would hope there wouldn't be any more, or be a reactivation, a fermentation from the fruit with the yeast, but that's a possibility. That's how these milkshake beers and sours explode. That real fruit juice and the yeast still exploding.

Wine-like Appearance and Future Reviews

00:06:41
Speaker
Were you looking for something to compare this? Yeah, I was like, what do I have? But I don't. We've drinking all my... Rev? Yep. Oh boy.
00:06:52
Speaker
We got a problem. Our problem is that we're too cool and we enjoy drinking good beer. Yeah, this is... I love the color on this too.
00:07:04
Speaker
Yeah, it looks like a red wine. It looks like red wine. And it is kind of hard, even the picture you sent me, it's still kind of hard to capture that. It's almost like we should have taken a picture while we're pouring it. It looks like, yeah, red wine. No, red wine is a perfect example. I was gonna say, or like grape juice. No, it doesn't. It looks like red wine, like you're pouring a merlot or something like that. But man, back to back, awesome.

Beryl Age Revolution beers after we recorded an episode with New Glorious beers. We ended on the fruity note big time. Totally. And I'm okay with that. Me too, man. No, this has been fun. Can't wait to see what our next beers are going to be for this after the final four of volume three. On to the next beer, huh?
