Life Before 'The Bachelorette'

00:01:00
Speaker
So I would say the year was 2016 going into 2017.
00:01:07
Speaker
And right before that year took off in 2017, I had an opportunity to go on a show, which many of you might know is The Bachelorette.
00:01:19
Speaker
Little do people know prior to that show, I was personal training.
00:01:22
Speaker
I was doing Uber to make money.
00:01:23
Speaker
And I was making pretty decent money once a week, $700 to $1,000 a week.
00:01:28
Speaker
So it was...
00:01:30
Speaker
It was putting the food on the table, was paying the bills.
00:01:35
Speaker
But I came home after the show and I could no longer do Uber.

Post-'Bachelorette' Financial Struggles

00:01:39
Speaker
But the funny story is I still had to pay my rent.
00:01:44
Speaker
My rent at the time was $2,000 a month.
00:01:46
Speaker
And I was sitting back thinking like, I'm going to make some money.
00:01:51
Speaker
Now, granted, shouts out to Airbnb.
00:01:53
Speaker
I did Airbnb my spot when I was gone for 10 weeks traveling the world.
00:01:57
Speaker
So I made a little bit of money.
00:02:00
Speaker
But I was back.
00:02:01
Speaker
I was back.
00:02:02
Speaker
You know, my show didn't come out for like the next two or three months.

Contemplating Change and Stuart Wilde's Advice

00:02:06
Speaker
So I had to make some money.
00:02:07
Speaker
You know, Uber was bringing me a lot of cash weekly and I couldn't do it anymore.
00:02:15
Speaker
So the story goes, it's probably the end of, let's say I came home May 17th.
00:02:25
Speaker
So it had to be like the end of May, if I'm not mistaken.
00:02:27
Speaker
And I had to pay my rent, you know, my rent was like 1850 1950 plus utilities and
00:02:39
Speaker
I needed to make money.
00:02:41
Speaker
So in that moment, of course, I'm going back and forth with myself.
00:02:44
Speaker
Like I want to do it.
00:02:46
Speaker
I know I shouldn't do it because I got a show that's coming out.
00:02:48
Speaker
I got to stop.
00:02:49
Speaker
I got to change.
00:02:51
Speaker
I got to figure something out.
00:02:53
Speaker
And so I remember listening to this, uh,
00:02:56
Speaker
this author, thought leader, spiritual guru named Stuart Wilde.
00:03:03
Speaker
And Stuart Wilde, W-I-L-D-E.
00:03:06
Speaker
And he was talking about, you know, sometimes you should just sit still for an hour and do nothing.
00:03:12
Speaker
And so, you know, I sat still for an hour and

Choosing Faith Over Fear

00:03:17
Speaker
And I did nothing.
00:03:17
Speaker
And I just was allowing to see what happened, what came, what will come, what will take place.
00:03:23
Speaker
Because, you know, as a person like myself with all this energy, I always feel like I have to be doing something, doing things, right?
00:03:29
Speaker
I have to be doing to get, I can't just be in a track, right?
00:03:33
Speaker
I got to do, do, do.
00:03:34
Speaker
So anyway, I'm sitting, I'm sitting, nothing is happening.
00:03:39
Speaker
So that day goes by.
00:03:40
Speaker
I do it again another day.
00:03:43
Speaker
Then at this point, you know, I just, I gotta have, I gotta have more faith than fear.
00:03:46
Speaker
So of course I prayed and now, you know, I still was training my clients.
00:03:51
Speaker
You know, I had some clients that stayed on while I was gone for 10 weeks.
00:03:56
Speaker
And I feel like it was like maybe two or three days, maybe two days before rent was due.

A Timely Commercial Opportunity

00:04:03
Speaker
And mind you, I'm still worried a little bit because I'm like, you know, my rent is $2,000.
00:04:09
Speaker
how am I going to make rent?
00:04:12
Speaker
So I'm sitting, I'm literally in my apartment on Wilshire and Burnside.
00:04:18
Speaker
Miracle Mile was the neighborhood I lived in.
00:04:21
Speaker
How ironic my brand is.
00:04:22
Speaker
It's Miracle Season, but I lived in Miracle Mile at the time.
00:04:26
Speaker
And I think I was doing a meditation.
00:04:28
Speaker
I was reading something.
00:04:31
Speaker
And I get a call.
00:04:32
Speaker
I get a call from, um,
00:04:35
Speaker
a good person who actually put me on the show, The Bachelorette, Thea Washington.
00:04:39
Speaker
And she was like, Eric, we're looking for someone to shoot this commercial, this Cantu commercial in Baltimore.
00:04:45
Speaker
We're willing to pay you $2,500 and we'll fly you out.
00:04:49
Speaker
Does that sound like something you want to do?
00:04:51
Speaker
Now, mind you, this woman doesn't know what's going on.
00:04:54
Speaker
She do know that I just got off a TV show and they need a soccer player for this commercial, Cantu.
00:05:04
Speaker
The only catch is I had to shave my head bald.
00:05:07
Speaker
So I had to go bald hit it.
00:05:09
Speaker
So here's the universe.

Reflections on Faith and Trust

00:05:13
Speaker
Okay.
00:05:13
Speaker
You say you need the money.
00:05:14
Speaker
You need the opportunity.
00:05:15
Speaker
This is the perfect timing.
00:05:16
Speaker
2,500.
00:05:17
Speaker
This is a beard product.
00:05:22
Speaker
She got to shave your head bald.
00:05:25
Speaker
So, of course, I said yes.
00:05:27
Speaker
They flew me to Baltimore, my hometown.
00:05:31
Speaker
How amazing is that?
00:05:33
Speaker
I was able to see my family.
00:05:36
Speaker
And...
00:05:39
Speaker
I shaved my head bald and I shot a commercial.
00:05:43
Speaker
And the crazy thing is I got paid within that week.
00:05:47
Speaker
So I think I went in town on maybe a Wednesday or Thursday.
00:05:52
Speaker
I know whatever it was, I got paid.
00:05:54
Speaker
They wrote me a check.
00:05:54
Speaker
Like I got paid really quick.
00:05:56
Speaker
Like a turnaround was really quick.
00:05:57
Speaker
I had the money and I paid my rent.
00:06:01
Speaker
So the moral of the story in life is that you got to have faith, you know, faith, as they say, small as a mustard seed.
00:06:09
Speaker
And I had to have faith.
00:06:11
Speaker
I had to let go and I had to trust.
00:06:13
Speaker
Right.
00:06:14
Speaker
There's something greater was on its way or in alignment, you know, on my soul's assignment.
00:06:21
Speaker
And, um,
00:06:24
Speaker
Here I was.
00:06:25
Speaker
I shot a commercial, shaved my hair bald, but I paid my rent because I was willing to stop doing the thing that I used to do to have faith for something new to come.
00:06:37
Speaker
And my rent was paid because I had faith and I trusted myself and I trusted in something greater.

The Power of Faith in Success

00:06:42
Speaker
God, the universe, the creator, whatever you guys believe.
00:06:46
Speaker
And it worked out.
00:06:47
Speaker
So I want you guys, if you're listening to this, to always have faith more than fear.
00:06:53
Speaker
Always have a little bit more faith because faith is really the way how you evolve in life.
00:06:59
Speaker
It's how you heal and it's how great things happen and come to you.
00:07:04
Speaker
But I was literally in a surrender moment.
00:07:06
Speaker
I had to trust faith.
00:07:08
Speaker
There's something great that was on the way and it happened.
00:07:10
Speaker
And so that's my story of faith and Uber.
00:07:13
Speaker
Shouts out to Uber.
00:07:14
Speaker
I did Uber probably for like three or four years.

Full-Circle Moment with Uber and Conclusion

00:07:17
Speaker
I made pretty decent money.
00:07:19
Speaker
Funny story about Uber.
00:07:21
Speaker
Seven years after doing Uber, I did a brand deal with Uber.
00:07:25
Speaker
who paid me great money to be an Uber partner and create content around doing Uber seven years later.
00:07:33
Speaker
So that's the story of faith in Uber.
00:07:36
Speaker
People keep your faith, always have faith and know that something greater is on its way, especially if you're in a bind, you're in a jam, you feel like things are not happening.
00:07:46
Speaker
Just let go.
00:07:47
Speaker
Try to sit in silence for an hour, 30 minutes.
00:07:50
Speaker
See what happens.
00:07:50
Speaker
Trust.
00:07:51
Speaker
Have faith.
00:07:52
Speaker
It's a miracle season.
00:07:54
Speaker
And remember, you can get your miracle, but you got to be willing to endure the seasons that come with that miracle.
00:08:01
Speaker
That's all.
00:08:02
Speaker
That's it.
