Introduction & Free Bird Rule Discussion

00:00:34
Speaker
Hey everybody, welcome to Predetermine, to Pro Wrestling Hangout. I'm your host, Chris Meleaccio, and with me, as most times, he's, most times lately,
00:00:48
Speaker
If, if we're going by the free bird rule, I feel like he's Terry Gordy. Uh, Jimmy facts. How you doing? How are you doing? And, and I am doing great. And I mean, are you, are you gunning for Michael PSA is here? Yeah. I mean, Garrett's pretty clearly the original bad street bad boy. Uh, but this is now the second time you're, you're playing, you're in the big boy chair.
00:01:11
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know. I'm worried about that because I was trying to run through if we're the free birds. There's four of us. Right. Which means, you know, we've got we've got P.S. We've got Bam Bam. We've got Jimmy Jam Garvin. I keep worrying that I might be Buddy Roberts. I don't know, which doesn't feel like a great answer or you know what? You know what I feel like is that we're actually we're missing one person. Right. And that our.
00:01:39
Speaker
Kent was our third on our old podcast, and we were the freebirds. Now, I'm still Gordy. You're Michael P.S. Hayes, and the original pre-determined guys, Garrett and Derek, are the Hardy Boys. You're wearing the tight, glittery shirt along with them. We're obviously not as much older as those guys as Michael Hayes was the Hardy Boys.
00:02:03
Speaker
We're a little older. Does that mean at this point you're wearing an executioner mask and just wandering around with a Skype trying to kill the undertaker? That's right. I'm just kind of trying to get my paycheck, trying to get my way back to Japan. Smoking a lot of Camel on Filters, probably. Well, actually, no, let's go. Let's go this way. If you're if you're Bambam, I'll just be Dr. Death.
00:02:31
Speaker
will be the miracle violence connection and JR will just fucking love me.
00:02:37
Speaker
I like it, I like it. And then in our version of history, then both of them joined the Freebirds. Both of them were equally Freebirds. Yeah, it's fine. It totally works.

Journey to New Jersey & Beastman Encounter

00:02:51
Speaker
Well, Chris, what are we wasting time on, though? What happened? We know we had a big weekend because as we told everyone for like a month straight, this was the weekend we were going to see Beastman. And you and I,
00:03:05
Speaker
Yes, I took the train to New Jersey. You picked me up with the train and we you and I went to see Beastman. I had I even had the night or two nights before I had my furry cape robe thing. And my wife is like, what is that? And I'm like, oh, it's it's a thing I'm going to wear to the wrestling show on Saturday. She's like, why? I'm like, oh, because Beastman is going to be there. And she just does that thing where she grabs her temple and goes,
00:03:33
Speaker
What's a Beastman? And then I have to, like, I proceed to sit her down and show her YouTube videos. But yeah, it happened. JCW uncensored. It was this last Saturday night. Joey Janela, Beastman in a body slam match. Oh, my God, Chris. It was quite an event. What was your favorite part of the Beastman experience? Oh, boy.
00:04:01
Speaker
I think what I would have to say is when we pulled in, so there was a settlement series show, GCW settlement series show, which was terrible, as real FAQ to IWTV, before the JCW uncensored show, which was like the real show and was awesome. So when we first pulled into that parking lot, we were like 40 minutes late.
00:04:23
Speaker
And we literally just saw Beastman sitting down wearing a dolphin's jersey, which we later found out was a Ray Finkel jersey from Ace Ventura. Because we kept Googling like, maybe is there somebody from West Virginia, but it was fun. Walking in. That's why Beastman is a dolphin's fin.
00:04:38
Speaker
But he's just a fan of comedy, which is more charming, actually. Which, again, the math checks out. But we see here, and literally I just go, Beastman! And he's a little surprised. He sees you're wearing a Beastman t-shirt. I'm not wearing a robe yet because this is for the earlier show. And then also, then Brett Lauderdale literally tells us, he sees us and goes, yeah, guys, that way, like points us that we're going in the right entrance.
00:05:02
Speaker
Right behind us. And then we hear we see or we hear Brett Lauderdale and Beastman make like Brett Beastman, Beastman Brett. And that was my highlight of the entire Beastman experience.
00:05:13
Speaker
Well, that was part of the interest, the moment there, knowing that we were there. Cause that we knew this was a big moment for beast man, but apparently this was his first time meeting Brett. Big moment. Very nice. Shook hands with us. Very, you know, kind guy ready to say hello. He honestly seems to surprise that, uh, and we were with our, you know, our friend Tom, but I think surprise to see like three near middle aged men that were totally in on beast man.
00:05:40
Speaker
I don't think again, I had in New Jersey, in suburban New Jersey. Now, it's interesting facts, though, because I it was nice to meet Beastman. But I got to say, I, you know, I'm surprised that your favorite part didn't involve the actual because I think it was a pretty great match and pretty good. Was there was there a reason why you didn't feel like for you personally? Yeah, it wasn't as good as it could have been.
00:06:02
Speaker
No, I actually, I thought the match was great. The problem with the match is that I wasn't in the building, Chris. I wasn't there. You and Tom were there and I was not.

Missed Matches & Event Confusion

00:06:14
Speaker
I missed the Beastman match. Do you want to explain to our listeners why you missed the Beastman matchbacks?
00:06:21
Speaker
no i mean i don't i will i feel i owe it to them i feel like i owe it to beastman um and by the way listeners i i have seen the beastman match now on youtube you can see it for free it's on the gcw youtube food feed jcw uncensored
00:06:38
Speaker
It was great. And we can hear you and Tom getting people going and getting the crowd's collective dicks hard for the Beastman experience. And you can even see, by the way, during Beastman's entrance, I can hear you leading the jam of Beastman, Beastman, Hot Scotts Cook, you made me so proud.
00:06:53
Speaker
And you can see Brett Lauderdale at his PC. And normally, no matter what, he's in the background. He's just on his computer looking just zonked. This is the only time on any GCW show I think I've ever seen where he's going, peace, man, peace, man, us, us, us, with you guys. So it's great.
00:07:09
Speaker
Now, why did I miss the show? I think the fates conspired against me, Chris. So we bought this. We could probably list fans of previous episodes to probably hear me promoting this show. I'm starting at eight p.m. Eastern time. That's what it said on the ticket. That's true. Yeah. That's what that's even with the calendar. So whatever.
00:07:33
Speaker
Also, we were reasonably certain that that was going to be pretty deep in the card. It seemed like it was even going to be the main event, right? It might be the main event or towards the top for sure. Yeah. So here's how our day went. Like Chris mentioned, I picked you guys up at the train station. We drove over. We got there like two thirty two forty five. We saw, you know, the second little over half of the GCW. I think we missed the first two matches of the GCW settlement series show.
00:07:59
Speaker
Then there's like a two and a half ish hour break between that show and the show. At this point, they announced, Oh, and be back at seven. And we're like, I'm like, Oh, it must mean doors at seven show at eight. We look on YouTube. No, YouTube says live at seven. I'm like, what the fuck? Because, and this is preposterous, but in Bunton, New Jersey,
00:08:22
Speaker
There was a GCW show. There was also this JCW uncensored show. There was also a gaming group. I'm a part of it. I play it once a month. We're having a competitive, they call organized play event. Organized. It does sound a little nerdy. Facts went for adult male to have organized play. We have organized play. And again, you're comparing it to the thing that I was wearing Halloween costume for two.
00:08:51
Speaker
Right. So that's the day I was going to have. Now, here's the thing is the original plan is I told you guys, hey, I'm almost definitely going to be there on time. I might be a little bit late. Right. So late. Eight o'clock. My thing was starting to start five thirty. My game thing when when we knew the GCW show was going to be over before five. So everything kind of mashed. I'd be able to get some food. And it was supposed to be about a 90 minute event. Now, I'll admit
00:09:19
Speaker
This I don't know that it said it was going to be the 90 minute format that the game I thought we were playing But I might have fucked that one up. They might not have changed it, but I thought it was the 90 minute game Okay, it starts at 5 30 even if starts 15 minutes late, you know, I'm done by 7 15 and
00:09:36
Speaker
So that's what I find at seven o'clock. I'm like, oh, shit, I'm almost definitely going to miss the beginning of this show, but I shouldn't miss too much. Then I get to my game thing. I got the wrong game, like the wrong format. It's it's like a three hour event. And I'm like, oh, shit. Well, it's a game, though, right? I could get stomped out. Right. You could lose. I could just get stomped out quick.
00:09:59
Speaker
and be out. So I wasn't that mad. I was a little mad that the hour thing, because it gave me some anxiety I didn't need. But I thought, hey, I might get stomped out. And by the way, even if I miss the entire first hour of the show, there's no possible way I'm missing Beastman. You're here for Beastman. Everything else on the show is a secondary thing to seeing the Beastman for you. And I can't convey the distance as the bird flies between where I was playing these games, a place called
00:10:29
Speaker
Highlander Games in Bhutan, New Jersey. You can look it up on Google Maps. Highlander Games in Bhutan, New Jersey. Then look up the Bhutan Elks Lodge. As the bird flies, it's about 40 yards apart. And you have to go a little bit longer, but it's a six-minute walk. And my car was parked almost exactly midway between, so I was going to drop it off.
00:10:49
Speaker
Yada yada yada here is I don't I don't get stomped out of the tournament soon You're too good, and I'm too good and again like I had paid money in advance to be in this thing, too It's not like people might be oh, it's like a regular, but no no this is that's why I used my
00:11:04
Speaker
My terminology here is that there was scoring. There are he's gambling on this, guys. There is actual gambling on this. You play once a month for three months. This was month one. And I was playing great. So I at some point I just messaged you and you were like,
00:11:22
Speaker
Uh, first, oh, they're starting with the barbed wire match open. So JCD uncensored. They opened with a barbed wire match between mance Warner and Slade, which was a lot of fun up until somehow a no contest in a barbed wire match. Um, when hood foot came in and tried to murder Slade for some reason, but otherwise very enjoyable match, kind of terrifying to be, we were in the second row, kind of terrifying to be that close for a barbed wire match or things where people are just throwing things at each other. Um, but good times.
00:11:52
Speaker
And so that match ends, it's about, and they cut the, they cut the stuff down. It's about seven 25, seven 30 at that point. It sent me just a picture of the setup before the match started. And you say, they're clearly starting with the barbed wire match. Right. Yeah. Which gets me a little bit like, Oh, that makes sense. Right. Cause they've set it up, but also like, Oh shit, they're starting. Like I'm going to miss something I like.
00:12:14
Speaker
But then I respond saying, oh, man, I actually won. You play three games and it's always like winners play winners kind of tournament. So I won the first two and I'm like, oh, shit, I'm I'm in the final round. Like I got to play this. I can't I can't pull out now, like.
00:12:32
Speaker
All right, and then I get about halfway through my finals game. At this point, that match has already happened. And I see, and the worst part is I see it too late to even do anything about it. I see, cause I'm in the middle of the game. I just look at my phone and I see 16 minutes ago, I got a message from you saying beast man now.
00:12:53
Speaker
And that's it, and at this point I'm like, even if I quit on the spot, I can't run to my car, get the cape, run to the thing, like Beastman will be over. It was one of the worst moments of an otherwise just great day. Like I watched a lot of good wrestling, we ate some good food, we had some great bacon cheeseburgers, lunch, just a great day overall, but I fucking missed the Beastman.
00:13:18
Speaker
And I just want to point out that if you watch, I'm sure many of you have not been to the Boonton Elks Lodge. I had not been before that time. It's a joy. It's a joy. It's a joy. Beautiful place. We're going to be back. Tom and I are in the second row, and we're on the side where we can see the entrance.
00:13:36
Speaker
So I sent that text of like, Bax, Beastman, and I did just keep looking over, wondering if you were just gonna be, like, just come tearing in. Just tearing in, Beastman, Beast, just screaming at any inappropriate moment. Just Beastman, Beastman, cuss, cuss, cuss. But it was not to be. But the Beast, I think, again, I think you're gonna get another opportunity to see the Beastman in Jersey. Yes, I mean, again, Lauderdale seemed clearly, and it was a great, like, again, I am, I am also like,
00:14:06
Speaker
I am both saddened and happy that when I finally saw it, I was at first, I was like, like a couple of minutes in, I'm like, fuck, this is actually really good. Like I was kind of hoping it would be a bomb that way I could justify, but it was really, really good, which also then brought me joy. Cause I'm like, you know, we, you and I talked as soon as I eventually did get to the show, I was just like, well,
00:14:29
Speaker
Either we're going to get some more of Beastman and and GCW, which I think we are. I would bet good. Yeah, possibly at the Nick Gage Moxley show, which we'll talk about in a little bit in Atlantic City. But if not, like we will go down to West Virginia and CNN Appalachian and maybe both.

Beastman Match Highlights

00:14:47
Speaker
We will. I mean, that's the thing we so we again, having watched Appalachian Championship wrestling.
00:14:53
Speaker
We knew the chant, beast man, beast man, husk, husk, husk. So Tom and I get it going as soon as his music hits. It's super audible on the YouTube. And I feel like other people then that started the momentum going. Everyone heard it. Everyone was like, yeah. Joey Janela tried to cut a promo. We screamed husk, husk, husk so loud that Janela had to tell us to cool it so he could cut his promo. Yeah. We did cool it. We did cool. I'm here. Joey can cut his promo. And there's what maybe.
00:15:20
Speaker
maybe 150 people, 120, 150. It was max capacity at the Elks Lodge, but there's only two rows of seating, and I would say about one row of seating more of SRO. Right. As basically people standing around the two rows of seats, and that's basically full. People joke about the ECW arena being a bingo hall. This was literally a bingo hall.
00:15:47
Speaker
And not like a big bingo hall. This is the bingo hall your grandmother actually plays bingo in. Yeah, the bathroom was literally by, the main men's room was basically where the wrestlers entered. I had to go, I found another bathroom eventually. I don't know if I was supposed to be using this bathroom in the basement, but I found it and I did not have to walk past the entrance, past Nick Gage being like, hey Nick, I'm gonna go have to pee now. I found a space,
00:16:15
Speaker
Which was exciting. But again, Beastman, I thought did great. They did a body slam challenge. So again, just to be clear, one bathroom was right next to the Nick Gage and the MDK gang. Yet you found a bathroom that could even better be described as the murder toilet. Oh, yeah. Well, I mean, it looks like there was an abandoned game room next to the bathroom.
00:16:37
Speaker
Um, which was exciting. I wanted to go down there and bowl. I, I don't know if there's a way to bowl, but I'm also surprised again, cause it's not, didn't seem to be the most modern, a high budget facility, not that big. Where did they have the room for these bowling lanes and game room? And like, where did that come from? Well, my grandmother, my gaming thing have been there. Right. Of course. It should have been in the, I would have heard the husk husk husk and I could have just ran upstairs. Maybe that's what you have to pitch the Highlander games. It's like, look guys.
00:17:07
Speaker
We got to get the basement of the Elks Lodge for the next round. That's how we do this. And then you just sprint upstairs and downstairs. I feel like you could do, I feel like you could convince them of this fax.
00:17:18
Speaker
Well, and again, we've you and I have talked about there is a WWE game that that that one can play that is like a competitive like trading miniature game. It's not very good. But hey, I think I could talk these guys into let's do wrestling, some wrestling themed games in the basement while they're wrestling shows going on upstairs.
00:17:44
Speaker
between maybe between the settlement series and the main show. Now, if they do this again, exactly, then people stay. You know, I love I've loved the elks. I think my favorite thing about the elks lodge was that other than the weird murder game room at the basement or the in the bathroom was quite clean. I want to be clear. Thank you very happily for that.
00:18:07
Speaker
We went for the afternoon show. We noticed they weren't selling booze at the bar. And so someone asked, hey, is there going to be booze tonight? Because we want to maybe have a drink. And someone said, oh, they'll be booze. Because it's elks lodge after dark. And after dark, there are drinks. And I definitely like scanning around the room. I don't think there was anybody that didn't like wrestling or anything except for maybe the one lady that looked like she was running it.
00:18:33
Speaker
But there definitely seemed like there were just some elks there to do their Saturday night drinking and just there's a wrestling show going on. Cool. Whatever. Can I get a five dollar Bud Heavy? Is that all I care about?

Wrestling Nostalgia & GCW Critique

00:18:46
Speaker
Yeah, they could. They could and they did. And an $8 mixed drink, by the way. Very reasonably priced drink. Very reasonable. I think Joey was sipping a mixed drink, it looked like. Yeah, they had, again, Janelle and the Beastman, I was worried about the body slam challenge. I was worried it wasn't going to be good. But once Joey did an elaborate explanation of what a proper body slam was, I was like, we're in on this.
00:19:12
Speaker
They had a banger of a match. Well, that also played his point during the sketch where then Beastman, like he even after the demonstrations of the body slam, he doesn't get it. He tries to like Beastman played the like the dumb. I'm just a cute, dumb animal baby face so well. And it worked so well with this current Janela heel character where he's like too big for GCW, too big for Jersey, which is ironic because again, we're in a room with like
00:19:40
Speaker
Joey Janela hasn't worked a GCW show in a room like that in like five, like certainly before AEW, before the pandemic, like I, yeah, I would say maybe, or maybe early pandemic, if you're using some of those like beginning of the pandemic, GCW shows in that bar in Philly. That's the only thing they could, but that was during literally the peak of the pandemic and uncertainty. That's what we compare it to.
00:20:07
Speaker
Yeah, this was not a big room, but again, I think in a really impressive performance in Beastman, it's on the JCW YouTube page. You can go and you can watch this. You can listen for me yelling. Yeah, and it's the second match, but watch the whole card. And I know when I watched it, it was also commercial free. I can't promise that that's gonna be the case for you guys. I had one commercial at the beginning, and then ran the entire rest of the show without a break. I watched the whole thing, including the matches I was there for.
00:20:34
Speaker
So it wasn't even like I came to watch the Beastman match that I'd heard so much about that I missed. But I ended up watching the whole thing because it was just an excellent card. Every match, I would say, at least met expectations and quite a few of them, I think, including, again, the Beastman and Joey and you guys listening know how big our expectations that they'll exceeded it.
00:20:57
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, Alec price and Cole Radrick had a hardcore match in which they went with a new Jack music, which was pretty fun. Mike Bailey and Yoya had a martial arts March. And I was concerned about what that was. And they explained that a martial arts match was a match where the ring was surrounded by ninjas who were trying to kill the competitors.
00:21:17
Speaker
I don't think that's what, yeah, Bishop, I'm sorry, Glacier and like Ernest Miller had in 1998. No. And Speedball was excellent as he's been all year. He's been so fantastic. Yeah, it was a really fun show. The Mexicans crushed Wasted Youth, which was pretty fun. That was great.
00:21:39
Speaker
The whole thing, it's an interesting stark contrast to the afternoon show. And a real fuck you, right? A real big fuck you.
00:21:49
Speaker
So the Afternoon Show, the settlement series, they've all had themes, right? The one in Chicago had like a show and tell theme. This theme was karaoke night. Which we didn't know, like they only posted on the Twitter that morning. And when we walked in, we didn't quite know, like obviously we know what karaoke is. You and I know each other from karaoke. That's right, episode. But
00:22:11
Speaker
Yeah, who knows? What does that mean at a wrestling show? And the answer was that for each match, the winner would pick a song for the loser. At least theoretically. That was on. Theoretically. Terrible. I have only two observations from that show that are worth saying on an air. Yeah. The first was that I had this was the first time I saw Brandon Kirk.
00:22:35
Speaker
knowing that he was the guy that had squeezed lemon in Mitten's face the week before. He'll be a baby face for me for life. And then, and yet, well, so I'm thinking baby face already for him. Right. Then Oh yeah, into the match. He just punches, uh, Jordan Oliver in the deck. And I'm thinking this guy's big baby face for me, just to give you his baby face.
00:23:09
Speaker
Why shouldn't he be proud of being her husband? She's a champion. Be proud of your wife. I'm proud of my wife. So he knows how to punch a mean dick and he rubs lemons into like he he's the super heavyweight champion, super metalweight champion of my heart. Yeah. Jordan Oliver just made him sing the young, dumb and broke lyrics, which was just very sad. Why? Why? Why? The other thing was that Sui Sakai wrestled
00:23:13
Speaker
everything we want.
00:23:37
Speaker
Jimmy Lloyd. Yeah, Jimmy Lloyd. And Sumi won. And she she won. Can we back up? Because even before the end of the match, I think it was during the intros, you and I started talking about how old Jimmy Lloyd was in real life, because we were like, we believe that he's anywhere. I think I said he's anywhere between I think it's like 26 and 37 is what my guess was, depending on how hard those years were. And
00:24:07
Speaker
And then you looked it up, and he's younger than the youngest end of that range, which blew my mind.
00:24:15
Speaker
And then that actually got referenced in the, or just after the match. Yeah. Cause sumi Sakai kissed Jimmy Lloyd and that's how she distracted him to roll them up and win. And then sumi Sakai cut a promo in which she said that she'd wanted to do that for a long time, but she felt she was too young when Jimmy was a teenager. So now that he was 24, she felt comfortable kissing him, which first of all.
00:24:40
Speaker
I mean, I guess good for Suomi Sakai that she wasn't like as soon as she turned he turned 18, she was ready to go. She's no Dane Cook. You know, Suomi Sakai's got got standards. There's also been a pandemic and she's not American. So I mean, that might add something to do with it.
00:24:54
Speaker
But then Jimmy Lloyd, Jimmy Lloyd's 24. Unbelievable. It feels amazing to me. It feels like Jimmy Lloyd should be like 47. He feels like you could watch something on Turner classic movies and he'd be in the movie. Right. Right. It's remarkable. Again, I put the over under at either like
00:25:19
Speaker
Or I put the range, I put the bottom of the range at 26 or 27. And I didn't think there was any chance he was a day under 30. I really did. It seems like you could see Jimmy Lloyd wrestling Vern Ganya in 1976. You'd be like, oh yeah, Jimmy had a different path. Yeah, so which also makes me realize I almost have definitely seen Jimmy Lloyd chain smoking before he was 18. That's almost definitely happened.
00:25:47
Speaker
Oh, for sure. For sure. Um, so yes, again, not much to say about the afternoon show. Well, let me just add one more thing. Um, because I wasn't sure it was going to be one of your, I will say this, that they kind of ended, ended it on just kind of a babyface embrace. And I have to say, don't, don't fans, don't, don't look for this show. Don't do it. It's horrible, but.
00:26:11
Speaker
And I'm hard on Jordan Oliver. Don't really love Jordan Oliver. I will say he does a pretty solid Shawn Michaels. They end it with with him and Nick Wayne and Nick Wayne singing sexy boy. Shawn Michaels again like and and then.
00:26:29
Speaker
you know, Jordan Oliver clearly has done a lot of practice of like the 1996 babyface Sean Michaels routine where he's like spinning in the room and he does it really well, I gotta say. Oh, that was my other note is that I feel like the karaoke night thing because having run a karaoke business, I know that karaoke companies very litigious. Yeah, I feel like Brett Lauderdale may have been in knowing this knowing he's doesn't done some DJing may have been trying to get into IW TV suit.
00:26:58
Speaker
with the theme of the show. I don't I don't think it's and and maybe, you know, Shrini Sakai and Jimmy Lloyd. Yeah, he's over. He's over legal age. But, you know, there are still some some nonconsensual intimate touching there that like, again, there seem to be a lot of stuff. Nick Wayne, is he maybe too young to be in a GCW type match? Like, can you see young Nick Wayne as a defendant in a trial where then they show like
00:27:27
Speaker
videos of like, you know, GCW war games. And they're like, this young 17 year old child, him and Starboy, they just bring the two of them up and the children have been on the same shows as this film.
00:27:43
Speaker
But yeah, a great day of wrestling. The Oxlodge was a great place to see shows. If you have a chance to see shows, come up and come down and hang out. And honestly, I'm bummed we didn't. So tickets to the weekend in Atlantic City, the second weekend in October, 8th and 9th, I believe, Atlantic City. They're going to be doing Mox Gage there night one. We've been talking about it. You know, the big thing with us, you're a big Mets fan. I'm a big Yankees fan.
00:28:16
Speaker
We're both hoping our teams might get a first round buy, but if they don't, they're probably playing that day. So that's why we didn't buy tickets right away. I'm pretty bummed out. The first four rows are already sold out because that going to that show at that small.
00:28:32
Speaker
elk sludge, even though the morning show really wasn't that great. It still was like, man, I'd been so down on getting like front row seats to things. And it really, to me, I was just like, yeah, I think no matter what the Yankees do, I think I'm going to buy a front row seat to
00:28:50
Speaker
to gage and moxley and and now apparently you know we missed that boat but i i still think i'm buying tickets that if the yankees can't hold on to this to get a first round buy i probably don't want to see that game anyway because they're gonna get just stopped
00:29:07
Speaker
It's going to be interesting. I think my concert that I got to I got to figure it out. But I definitely I think we want to get there. We'll figure it out. Con is that weekend, too. I'm supposed to go to New York Comic Con for the Sunday. Obviously, there's NFL. It's a very busy weekend in the New York, New Jersey area. But I think after after the Elks Lodge.
00:29:27
Speaker
brought back my faith in professional wrestling. Again, I'm on a podcast here, so I didn't lose all the faith, but I don't know. I'd been on a little bit of a downswing with wrestling. The AEW stories, which we'll get to in a minute, it's interesting to speculate. I got a little bit of a chub from that, but I'd just been on a little bit of a downswing.
00:29:48
Speaker
And I gotta say that this wrestling day in Boonton, New Jersey, even knowing that I missed the Beastman, it got my indie wrestling really being there with the people and seeing the grime of it all in a good way. It got me feeling it again.
00:30:10
Speaker
in like the early aughts, I was kind of falling out of watching wrestling. And what really kept me for a long time was going to indie shows and just the fun of being in that room, the old Oaks Lodge and Queens, you know? And, you know, yeah, I do feel like there's, we've all, you and Garrett and Derek and I, I feel like we've all been feeling a little bit like,
00:30:34
Speaker
I think our relationship to AEW has been sort of changing over the last year, I think. And not that we don't love it, but it's been changing. And I do kind of think at the end of the day, it's stuff like Beastman, seeing Beastman at Warrior Wrestling going, we're going to watch a bunch of Beastman. It's what's keeping us going in wrestling sometimes. And it's going to an indie show and being in that room that's super fun.
00:30:58
Speaker
Just seeing like it's actually like that tag match like did all all four guys were bleeding I want to say I mean there's a lot of there's a lot of blood a lot of broken stuff But it's and then it's like we're in the second row in an elk sludge with a hundred and thirty people in Bunton, New Jersey
00:31:16
Speaker
And it's just like, man, this is awesome. And it just got me back. Tom and I were doing math during the Cole Radrick Alec price match, because they set up like a ladder on top of the ropes. And we're like, are they going to do a bump into that? Because if so, I'm like thinking about if that spins out, are we going to have to put our hands up?
00:31:37
Speaker
Yeah. Well, and there was even in the morning show or the early show, there was, I forgot in one of the matches, like we had no warning and we just all like everyone in our area. It was just us and like some, some, some women were in front of us and we just all were like, Oh shit. At the same moment and all the patterns, there's something beautiful about that.
00:31:58
Speaker
Um, it really is. And you know what? And maybe it's just like, I feel like maybe being in that room and feeling that thing made me really feel, I was feeling like the Jon Moxley promos in my head. And I'm like, I get it. Why this guy that's famous in a millionaire and you know, could do anything and doesn't need to do all this. And yet he does it. Like it actually all kind of clicked to me. And this is where he wants to be. He wants to be wrestling.
00:32:29
Speaker
Yeah. And he wants to be wrestling in filthy, blood soaked drinks. This is why I have a theory about this vacation thing. I think I think this has been mocks as one of his favorite moments. I think if there's anyone who was a winner and was happy about what happened, not that he was happy that Punk and the Bucks got into a fight, but.
00:32:53
Speaker
He got to cancel his vacation and keep wrestling. Right. Probably something Jon Moxley wanted to do. Oh, I think so. Yeah. I have. So I actually have a theory about this because I don't actually believe that Jon Moxley wanted a vacation.
00:33:06
Speaker
No, Renee. Well, that's it. I believe that Renee went to Tony con and said, Tony, tell him he needs a month off for the angle. Right. Cause they said that one of the things he was supposed to take some time off and that was supposed to set up sort of his angle for the fall. Cause he was going to go away for a bit. Yeah. I'm feeling like Renee's like, look, I want to go on vacation. Tony, you owe this to me and Tony's like, sure. I'll do whatever you need, Renee. Or just, it's not even Renee needs to go on vacation. Renee is just like, I want to go.
00:33:34
Speaker
nine straight days without seeing my husband bleed. Right. A reasonable request for most. And so Tony pitches mocks on the angle. He's excited about that. So that's what gets him going. And then Renee says,
00:33:51
Speaker
All right, sweetheart, let's go to the Maldives. You saw those pics of Cardona, right? And he's like, the ones were gauge, cut them open. Those were sweet. And he's like, no, no, no, no. The pictures of the Cardona's on their honeymoon. And he's like, I did not, did not look at those. Was that was the one where he was in the, you know, no, it's going to be beautiful. And Mox is like, okay, I'll do it. Um, but then.
00:34:15
Speaker
So he's, he's dreading this trip to the Maldives. Cause he realizes there's no wrestling in the Maldives. He can't even find the TV. They're like a Loch Ness monster type situation that I can maybe tangle with or an abominable snowman. Okay.
00:34:32
Speaker
He's checking, he's calling the resort to find out how strong their stream is, just so he can watch JCW uncensored, just because he wants to see, he heard Mansur's doing a barbed wire match, he wants to see what's going on with that. He's also just kind of hopeful, been like, so really on the DL, there's a lot of crime.
00:34:52
Speaker
Is it like not that nice an area if like I leave the resort maybe there's a some some street tufts that might want my wallet or something? They got a they got a place where they do some some we tie or something like anywhere I can yeah, you just fight someone and so then this happens and Like even before Tony calls him like Tony calls these like mocks like no, no, no
00:35:19
Speaker
I need to, I need to cancel my vacation. Right. And Tony's like, well, you don't, you don't have to, I'm just, you know, you don't have, it's like, we're going to use your name on TV. Like you don't have to actually be here. We're just going to tell the fans just so that they know what some guys are suspended that you'll be, you'll be back. Maybe you could cut some promos in advance. I was just thinking we'd just send someone, you do some pre tapes for a few weeks and mops is like, no, no, no, no, no.
00:35:44
Speaker
I'm coming to TV. I'll tell Renee, it's unfortunate, but the company needs me.
00:35:52
Speaker
And that's why Renee said probably right now. And that's why she said, but we are all hornier than we've ever been for Jon Moxley.

AEW Dynamics & Jon Moxley Discussion

00:36:02
Speaker
Because apparently, the Observer reported that people said the locker room meeting last week was the best locker room meeting anyone's ever been in, run by Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, and Brian Daniels. And people are happy.
00:36:16
Speaker
And people have also said that particularly like the promo Moxley cut on dynamite and then a little bit of what Jericho said in his backstage segment on dynamite, both kind of like echoed things that in the locker room views are like when Moxley literally like, I feel like that thing where he's like, I bleed pro wrestling. Like that's what he was telling everyone. I'm pretty sure that the undercurrent there was like either love pro wrestling and enjoy violence with Mox or he'll kill you. Right.
00:36:47
Speaker
Right. If you don't, if you don't respect mocks, he has Tony's ear and he will book you in a match with Nick Gage.
00:36:58
Speaker
Well, and also like, think about it. We all love pro wrestling and we're all loving with Mox. If these other guys in the locker room, they've even got further than us. They have dedicated their entire adult lives and probably their teenage lives before that completely to pro wrestling. They probably love Mox and that shit even more than we do. Right. That's why Mox is the best. Everyone loves John Mox. Who doesn't love John Moxley? What monster doesn't love John Moxley? I think even Nicky likes John Moxley to some degree.
00:37:29
Speaker
Oh, I mean, they have a very complicated relationship, but the deepest of love there as well, of course. Yeah, I mean, that's that's why that that war is going to be so hard because they love each other. It's their role on each other's blood. There's a lot of parallels between the Mox Kingston thing with that for sure. Hmm.
00:37:45
Speaker
Oh, man, has have any they must have run. Kingston Engage must have wrestled at some point, right? This. So I think this is something we're going to need to get Garrett back to get like it must have happened. I'm wondering, has it happened in kind of the current incarnations of both guys? That's the I think in the last six years. Yeah, I. Yeah. But even right now, because even from two years ago, Eddie Kingston is beloved in a way that's very different. Nick Gage is beloved.
00:38:14
Speaker
Fuck, can we get that match? Can we book that? Yeah, if this Gage Moxley match in Atlantic City is the last Gage Moxley or the last one for a while, right? Maybe they'll need a rubber match like in a year. But again, it took between match one and match two a lot of time passed. Yeah, can we get Gage's next program after Mox to be with Kingston? I mean, I feel like that would just be amazing.
00:38:41
Speaker
I agree. Let's make that happen. Brett. And then, of course, Mox is next program in GCW with Beastman. Yeah, of course. Well, of course, we got a Rocket Beastman to the, clearly Brett's on our side. He knows we're going to Rocket Beastman to the top now. Beastman versus, Beastman versus Mox. I'm into it. The question then, will Tony Khan let Brett do that when that's clearly going to be a main event for AEW in less than a year?
00:39:06
Speaker
But also with what's going on with AEW, maybe Beastman wants to spend a little bit more time. He probably, like a lot of guys, was just kind of like, well, if that Tony Khan money's there, I'm going to go there. Why would I go to WWE? But now maybe, I don't know. Maybe he's thinking, because now it seems like a young box.
00:39:23
Speaker
of all people are putting out feelers, and it seems like it's a pretty light story, right? They're putting out feelers to maybe go to WWE in a year and change when their contracts end. But hey, Cody's already over there. The Bucks somehow let that story leak, right? That comes from somewhere. It's interesting.
00:39:51
Speaker
It's very interesting because you had said, we were talking on the many hours. We did spend many hours together when Fax was not coming in second in this competition. Oh yeah, we didn't mention, I didn't win, by the way. You didn't win. I ended up winning my final match on the last roll of the dice.
00:40:09
Speaker
But so did not went two and one, not three and oh. Therefore, I did not only did I not win, I didn't finish the top three because three different guys when three and oh, I was one of the top two and one finishers instead. Anyway.
00:40:24
Speaker
Anyway, but you were talking about how you were a little surprised when we did the last week's episode that you thought it might be even bigger, right? This is a year that's seen Vince McMahon step down. Like when you guys were saying like, this is like historically big story, I immediately go to at that point, like, well, a month and a half ago, Vince McMahon was out as CEO. So it's got to be something as big as that or bigger.
00:40:49
Speaker
And and yeah, my knee jerk after you guys was kind of like, well, guys, this is a major story. Don't get me wrong. But like, this has got nothing on Vince. Leave. And this is, you know, I don't this wasn't the biggest story of the quarter, let alone, you know, the last couple of years. Right. And my thought was that in a sense, Vince leaving is the end of a certain era of WWE for sure. Right. I mean, at a very basic level, it's an era that should have ended a lot a long time ago.
00:41:16
Speaker
Sweet Lord, yes. But to me, I think when we talk about this with Cody a little bit, him leaving, but if the elite leave AEW, which again seems like maybe with this rumor, there's a non-zero chance at least, right? At some point, right? Maybe not soon, but it does seem like
00:41:37
Speaker
It seems like the WWE money is going to be there. The control they once had with AEW doesn't seem like that's going to be there. Kenny's contract ends in early 2023. I don't know what the bucks deal. I know there was an opposite was picked up. I don't know if that was for a year or two.
00:41:53
Speaker
I had read it. I thought it was January of twenty four is when their contracts would run out. OK, so they're because they have they have the extra year. But and look, who knows what happens depending on what the findings of this investigation are or whatnot. But just the idea, I mean, if if Kenny and the Bucks leave again, while I'm still going to watch AEW because I got to get my fill of Jon Moxley every week, apparently, it does feel like the end of an era in a way that would be
00:42:20
Speaker
really kind of earth shattering. I think it would really change the course of wrestling if that era is fully over. The AEW is something that's sort of fully divorced from that time in Chicago, you know, the all in era, the all that stuff. And I would even probably go like maybe 18 months even before that, right? I would even go kind of like
00:42:40
Speaker
Kenny is I would really start with that Wrestle Kingdom the first Okada Wrestle Kingdom where it's like Kenny is leader of the Bullet Club that was really a coming-out party for those elite guys and then everything just kept building and building Ring of Honor in the US obviously in New Japan and then into you know all out and then you know into AEW so I agree with that but you know what it was also interesting in this kind of a combination of these two mega stories both happening within a short proximity you know what my
00:43:09
Speaker
first thought was when I saw that report on the bucks in WWE, it was that, Ooh, the bucks against like the new day, the bucks against the Uso's like, Ooh, that actually could be kind of fun and interesting, which there's no way I have that reaction even six months ago. Right? Because the bucks working for Triple H or Kenny working for Triple H is at least
00:43:36
Speaker
I don't know how that's going to go, but I'm not sure that's going to be a disaster. Well, and also like even not for nothing like the Triple H working for Triple H and his guys, but also like look at Cody, like Cody got a huge intro at WrestleMania and then the next pay-per-view he main evented and went over Seth Rollins who
00:43:59
Speaker
Pretty much is the most one of the most protected guys after Roman, right? I mean, Roman in a league all his own, but like, but then he beat Rollins three times in a row. Yeah. And Rollins is again, normally quite protected guy. Right. Yeah. I mean, look, I am frequent the board pro wrestling only, which go check that out if you like still like message boards, I guess. But you were talking about the idea of who's the guy who's the guy who can beat
00:44:26
Speaker
reigns and unless you feel like you're all in on Braun Breaker, Rex Steiner, isn't it Cody? It's Cody. Yeah, I think even if you're all in on Steiner, I don't think he's going to be ready for a pay-per-view main event or even a raw main event for a while. He definitely needs some more time in the oven and Vince might have rushed him. I don't see trips doing that.
00:44:50
Speaker
Right. Could you like I'm just thinking this is it's a it's a non zero scenario. I think this is still pretty far fetched. But can you imagine Cody wins the WWE title and showing up to challenge him at the end of WrestleMania fucking Kenny Omega. I mean, and again, the timing could work. Well, Cody will. Yeah, Cody will be back by mania and Kenny will be. It's it's not crazy and
00:45:20
Speaker
I'd watch raw for that. There are three things that each independently could happen that could get me to watch WWE again. One is Vince being gone. That happened. Two is them officially announcing there's no more blood money show and that they're going to try to be a better company, which that has not happened.
00:45:43
Speaker
I don't know. I'm optimistic that maybe they can go. And the three would be that they get Kenny Omega, right? Any wrestling company. No, again, in my heart of hearts, I think I'd still rather see him go back to New Japan. But but again, what about this? Let's take it a step further, Chris. Cody wins the belt off Roman at WrestleMania. There's Kenny waiting. Then Kenny takes the belt off Cody. I don't know. Money in the bank or something like that.
00:46:13
Speaker
Then who's waiting? Kodaabushi. You know, I was just thinking WWE did want to sign a bushy a long time ago. And I mean, I don't know that I don't know what information they have on the scenario with him in New Japan. Obviously, from the outside, it looks like something very strange. Yeah. And it seems like nobody's innocent, quite frankly. But I don't know. I mean, I got to think somebody's going to sign a bushy that's not New Japan at some point.
00:46:41
Speaker
more than likely there'll be another Japanese promotion first. But hey, maybe it's AWW. It just feels like we're I don't know if it feels like the axis of wrestling might be shifting in a lot of ways over the next few months. And it makes me wonder if this
00:47:01
Speaker
if this is beginning to and it's a little bit backwards with things but if this is kind of getting a little bit of that like 1996 into 97 juju of like
00:47:15
Speaker
There's something we really love. And then there's this other thing that hasn't been so good, but there's something kind of changing back. And there's really reason to be optimistic about two really big shows. And then with GCW, obviously fits really well into ECW part of that analogy, although hopefully with a better run business sense.
00:47:38
Speaker
of like this other thing that it's a distant third compared to those other two, but it's so, it's so much bigger than the other Indies and it's kind of just gaining momentum. Like, you know, we're seeing like, again, we expect what five, 6,000 easy, right? In Atlantic city. And that's not even an all out weekend. That's not a WrestleMania weekend. Like it's getting a point where GCW can run, you know, three, 3,000 plus seat venues, like
00:48:09
Speaker
kind of regularly. Well, GCW has got a huge advantage over what ECW did in the 90s, just because A, they don't need to keep TV, right? That was a lot, so much effort around TV and working with cable companies, right? And all that stuff that GCW just doesn't have. The infrastructure is just a lot easier for them. And the second thing being that because of the way the industry is right now, like they have access to guys
00:48:36
Speaker
much more so than ECW did, right? They have access to mops at number one, right? Like they don't need to sign all those guys or risk losing them. It's like, imagine if a BCW signed Raven, but was just like, he can also show up at all the ECW shows in the weekend. Who cares?
00:48:52
Speaker
And it's not just Mox. Mox clearly has a special deal that was negotiated into the deal. Tony Khan's not going to just let him work anywhere. But you see AEW guys all the time. You'll just casually see...
00:49:07
Speaker
Jack, Jack Evans working at GCW show just without like, it's not even a thing, right? He's not even working the main events. It's just, it's just, that's how good they are. And then of course, like you've guys that are working in MLW and GCW in the work, like top indie guys, like.
00:49:23
Speaker
It's yeah, I'm with you. It's great. And now that they're working in Japan to getting some partnerships in the UK, like, I don't know, GCW, I agree. I think is in much better shape than it's kind of the a better than the best of both ECW and Ring of Honor at the same time in a certain way. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, but to your point, though, about how this feels like the late 90s again, right? That's this is the question, right?
00:49:52
Speaker
can a w sort of sustain itself in a way that wcw sort of spun out of control and again obviously very different scenarios in a lot of ways although there are the parallels with changing at the top of the warner group um and i think they will but i think the
00:50:12
Speaker
I guess my concern though. There's also the thing that Warner doesn't actually own them. We were also speculating on this. Why does Tony Khan feel so beholden to Warner? There's not many other totally logical landing spots. Obviously, there's hoping that there is going to be some HBO Max action there at some point.
00:50:31
Speaker
She's also under Warner. But that's a huge difference. I actually do believe in Shoff and stuff like that when it's things of like, yeah, when you just say this is part of Turner and you don't get credit for the revenue and you have to cover all of your own expenses. They were dealing with such a deficit to start with that.
00:50:52
Speaker
Is AEW making WWE money? No. But by all accounts, they're going to have over $100 million revenue year. And I don't know if you listen to that Jericho podcast with the wrestling economics guy a couple of weeks ago, but they're presuming a lot of people in the industry, unless something shifts, they think AEW is going to get a huge increase in the television rights

AEW Growth & Creative Speculations

00:51:17
Speaker
when the contract comes up, which I think is still a year and a half away.
00:51:20
Speaker
The negotiations are starting soon, apparently. The negotiations are starting soon. And they're already, again, they're now they drew their first million dollar house. No thanks to Hangman Page. And they haven't even sold out Grand Slam. That's already drawn over a million dollars in ticket sales. And presumably they're still going to sell a few thousand more, I would say.
00:51:47
Speaker
Things are looking good. Yeah, no, I'm not worried about a W. What I'm actually kind of worried about is there was a moment there, right, where a W was everything kind of that I wanted in sort of one product and the idea of the box and Omega going to WWE on the one hand.
00:52:10
Speaker
Like it's kind of cool. And the idea that maybe, maybe both products are going to be great. Maybe both things are going to be things I want to watch. At the same time, there was sort of a fun, we were talking about last week in terms of like, we know what our appointment viewing is. Like the idea of a deluded wrestling industry.
00:52:25
Speaker
is in some ways maybe could be a worse one. I don't know, we'll see where we're going. As we know, things ended up spiraling out of control for WWW after the peak, but I am thinking about, you were there, I was there in those years, in 97 into 98, where
00:52:42
Speaker
I was super excited about both promotions and like in the days before DVR, me and my brothers would watch raw downstairs. No, no, we would watch the first hour of nitro and we would switch to raw while my dad would record nitro upstairs or.
00:53:01
Speaker
Uh, like in the summer where we didn't have to like wake up for school and stuff the next day, we would just stay up and just watch the replay on TNT of nitro after watching raw. But it was like, that's I'm, I'm going glass half full and that that's why I'm focusing on. I don't, I think, I think Tony Khan does need some help.
00:53:20
Speaker
Um, but I think that from a biz, he doesn't need help from a running a business perspective. I think that that's some skills that, you know, his father taught him and, and he learned at top business schools. I think the creative part of managing wrestlers, uh, and managing the creative, he needs help. Um, but if I think he'll get it, right. Cause that's part of being a good businessman. Yeah. Well, and again, it sounds like they're, they're already working on that. And, and again, there is a sense that.
00:53:57
Speaker
I mean, yeah, maybe we're in for a golden era. Maybe we're going to maybe people are going to talk about the next few years for maybe people are going to be trying to replicate this for 20 years. I don't know. We'll see. And you know what? And this might be also the thing with punk, too, like the bookends of punk, right? With the other thing to probably address since the last episode is it's seeming like more and more steam is given to the punk knew he was hurt bad and this was pretty premeditated. What he said, that's picked up a lot of steam. A lot of people believe it. I believe it.
00:54:09
Speaker
Could the locker room be more coherent after some of this stuff? Maybe.
00:54:26
Speaker
To one extent or another, right? To one extent, I might not fully like, you know, I think he, some of those lines were ready to go. I think picking on the Colt Cabana stuff, I think was ready to go. And I think that Punk probably knows himself to know he's going to go to some other areas. I don't think Punk planned for it to escalate to Fisk the Tops backstage. No. But I don't think he also would have, I don't think if somebody had said, hey, Punk, this is where this is going to end, it would have stopped him.
00:54:53
Speaker
But I think that that could be an interesting arc where obviously Punk comes in, it spikes excitement again, it spikes the ratings. He is a draw in the ratings, like unquestionably. And then you have this bookend where it's like, well, we did a thing that he's going to be gone more than likely, but yet.
00:55:15
Speaker
It's still spiking ratings with him not being there. And maybe it's spiking guys in the locker room. Maybe it spikes creative juices. There is something to the, you know, the the famous Ewing theory and like the addition by subtraction. Like when you look at, you know, even pro wrestling, how how many times somebody they're getting hurt or otherwise being gone has opened spots for other guys that have gone really, really well.
00:55:43
Speaker
And maybe that's a good way that punk has this perfect, exactly one, almost exactly one year story in AEW that is exactly what AEW needed to grow to the next year. Yeah, maybe they needed punk for the moment, but they didn't need him for the long term. And the way that he left is something that strengthened them, right? So that it's notified them that they didn't need him anymore.
00:56:12
Speaker
Yeah. I was just about this. You know who also apparently stays fortified during these shows? Jim Ross. Yeah, Jim Ross for sure. And why is that, Chris? Jim Ross revealed recently that he he has to wear the black sometimes so that because sometimes, you know, it's hard to it's hard to not piss for.
00:56:34
Speaker
that long. Yeah. That's the thing is, I know I had been second with my brother when I was in Chicago. You and I have talked about it. What's going on with Jim Ross? He's not doing all of Dynamite. He's not doing most of the pay-per-views. He doesn't seem to be doing a lot of things. But there didn't seem to be a rhyme or a reason. It was just kind of like, JR's coming out for just the main event this week. Then he's coming out the midway point. Then he's coming out for the whole show. And apparently, it turns out, we were like, oh, are they phasing him out?
00:57:01
Speaker
Did they try to phase him out and then they need to bring him back in? Cause he's the voice of rescue. No, it's just has to do with how badly he needs to piss. He needs to go to the bathroom. Um, or maybe he's willing to piss himself. He's not willing to shit himself in the seat. And that was like, Tony, I had some serious barbecue.
00:57:20
Speaker
Well then also, is Excalibur complaining about the smell? Does it turn off Regal? That Regal can't get horny for Excalibur if the smell of human waste is permeating the booth?
00:57:39
Speaker
But I'm just thinking about the idea that JR has been here for a long time and he's been great, but it might be time. But maybe they move into a taped role where he can go to the bathroom whenever he needs to.
00:57:52
Speaker
And it's got to be tough. You hear like Shivani now. He seemingly is like the right hand, but he's also in that booth and he knows the guys and just Excalibur like they hit commercial Excalibur covers his mic and just goes, Tony, Tony, can you talk to Jim? I just can't. I just I don't think I can. I don't think I can call the rest of this, you know, Britt Baker match if if I smell this like I'm sorry, Tony. He's he's your peer. Can you can you old guide old guy? Can you take care of this?
00:58:20
Speaker
See, this is where maybe Ross gave up on New Japan, but so much of New Japan now, they don't want to fly over Kevin Kelly for everything. There's a lot of New Japan shows where they're just taping the commentary after. Maybe that's what it should be. It should just be like showing up, hanging out with Kevin Kelly on Zoom. I would love that if they had just a little window in the bottom that just very clearly Kevin Kelly and JR sitting on toilets,
00:58:49
Speaker
next to each other, just doing live to tape commentary where they can just freely let it loose. I mean, it is the natural reaction to a great Okon match.
00:59:01
Speaker
That's true. That's true. And, you know, now that they're doing it's in a weird way, you know, like WrestleMania, we kind of enjoy this two night thing because it's made each night like lighter. Wrestle Kingdom doesn't feel that way. Wrestle Kingdom feels like a very long show both nights or all three nights this year.

Wrestling Event Analysis & Delays

00:59:20
Speaker
I didn't watch the third night. Nor did I. Yeah, maybe maybe that's even more what they need.
00:59:30
Speaker
But there's there's a couple of points where Chris Charlton's talking for a while and you realize because Kevin and J.R. are just taking very long, you know, midnight dumps, you know, like slight grunting. I can imagine. By the way, do you did you have you seen the New Japan News that the match that's happening on this weekend?
00:59:59
Speaker
No, I was a couple of weeks ago, I was really catching up on my new Japan, but I never got up to current. And then I don't tend to follow the news because of that, but feel free to hit me with it. So you're not, this is not a spoiler that's going to concern you. So, um, this weekend, chaos is defending the six man titles against house of torture again. Cause that's the match we needed to see again. Sure. The match is a tornado dog cage match. Dog cage match. Yes.
01:00:29
Speaker
And what does that mean? It's a tornado match, which means there's no tags, but they're also, you can win. There's pinfalls, but you could also win by shoving your opponents in a dog cage, which related to the match that the last one, they won the titles with Yado and, uh, and Dick Togo. This is, I think ghetto is losing it. I think ghetto, I think it was finally got insane. Like they start doing gimmick matches and this is where it's going.
01:00:54
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. This is the gimmick match. We all want to see a tornado dog cage match. That's what everyone's been demanding House of Torture with House of Torture. Yeah. Right. That's exactly what we all wanted. We all wanted a bigger a main event for the House of Torture with with with I don't know. I don't know where they're going. Thanks.
01:01:14
Speaker
Well, they're clearly building up to kennel in a cell. Right. Although I did, by the way, I did. Speaking of our of John Moxley, I did finally see on the New Japan TV show the Mox Desperado match. And I thought we were joking about how Mox bladed Desperado for a sick pleasure, like under a mask and you couldn't see it. God damn, you could not see Desperado bleeding. It doesn't. It's that Mox can feel it.
01:01:44
Speaker
Yes. And again, if that's what Moxley needs, I'm cosigned. I whatever he needs, I'm willing to support him. Desperado seemed up for it. So, I mean, that's, you know, as long as it's consensual, that's really what's important here. Unlike James the guy and Jimmy Lloyd. Right.
01:02:02
Speaker
Good match too, by the way, if you have not, if you have the AXS TV show listeners, or I don't even know if it's on world yet, but if you get the chance to see Mox versus Desperado, I enjoyed it. And I agree. I actually, I did go out of order to watch that one. So I did see that one and I agree. Sometimes I try to, I queue them up and then watch them chronological, but then sometimes I see something
01:02:25
Speaker
pop up every week. I at least look as the description usually doesn't tell you what's on it. So fast forward to the first minute where they say here's what's on this episode. So when I saw that when I did watch it. Yeah. John Moxley is just keeping us hanging on.
01:02:43
Speaker
I can't wait. Moxley and Beastman. I can't wait for 40 years from now when Moxley can't go anymore and he's a commentator and he's shitting himself while and probably bleeding on commentary. You know, a event like 60 something Beastman is is doing like his. You know, flair at WrestleMania, you know,
01:03:11
Speaker
Goodbye. Yeah. There was a 24. Yeah. WrestleMania 24 stuff that gives that beast man will be the flat and he'll be in, you know, he's WWE. Obviously beast man will do another series of smaller goodbyes and indie promotions just to squeeze every last dime to pay a lot of ex wives. Of course, Jordan Oliver, Jordan Oliver, just lining up the super kick and saying beast man, I love you. I'm sorry. Yeah. In the way that he's always wanted to, um,
01:03:41
Speaker
Yeah. Moxley just bleeding Excalibur for no good reason. Absolutely.
01:03:46
Speaker
Under his mask, no one can see it. But again, we're only we're recording this before Dynamite this week, but I have a pretty good feeling we're going to get to see Jon Moxley wrestle for the world title again at Grand Slam. And I think it's going to be against Danielson. I think I think I would put money on that. Right. And that we might be able to see the acclaimed win the tag titles. Grand Slam is looking to be one hell of a show.
01:04:16
Speaker
Yeah. And then, you know, who knows? Maybe we also see in Jersey, we see maybe a little, uh, little Danielson and or mocks against MJF for the title at a full gear because again, if they're doing this big show, that's because that's the big question is they're doing this big show in like kind of mid to late September, like late September for grand slam. Are they going to do another big night, like in October before the paper you in November or.
01:04:46
Speaker
Is, are they going to just start the build towards full gear? I don't know. I'm excited to find out. Even, yeah, even when the chips are down, I love pro wrestling. I love hanging out with my friends and watching pro wrestling. It's great. That's what the show's about. Even if Garrett, neither Garrett nor Derek is here. Yeah. And one, just one thing to end on too, cause we, we got to end on a little bit more beast man. Um, some listeners might say, Hey guys, you were, you've been talking, the other thing you've been talking about.
01:05:10
Speaker
is Beastman War Games. Where's the conversation? Now, unfortunately, if you go to, I think it's like indiewrestling.us or something, look for VCW. I think it's Victory Championship Wrestling, name of the promotion. You can also find it through Beastman's Instagram. They do have a website for it, and they had said it was going to be available for purchase on digital download and digital streaming last Friday.
01:05:36
Speaker
I went to prepare for the podcast today. Chris and I were both going to watch it. I went I purchased on Vimeo and I got a message saying it's going to be available this coming Friday. I got pushed back a week. So again, we still we still have not gotten to see Beastman War Games listeners. You should even rent it for three ninety nine. Buy it for nine ninety nine to own it forever. I love you. I'm sorry. Forever and and ever.
01:06:06
Speaker
But hopefully we'll be able to talk about that next time. Yeah, very disappointing victory championship wrestling. They don't understand how quickly we need our beast man, although unless maybe they're putting the finishing touches on it and it's going to be a perfect like production to really display the glory of this war games match. That's what I'm hoping for.
01:06:24
Speaker
Well, and you know what, it may might also be that they know something. They might be close with you and they might not. They might know something we don't like. Hmm. Going to make a big appear. And maybe they knew about this J.C.W. thing. They know he's going to be making some big appearance. They're kind of waiting to to release it to get maximum exposure. We can only hope. Yeah. Dream.
01:06:45
Speaker
Uh, I think Garrett will be back next week. Um, just as a baby stuff this week, it happened. It happened. Uh, Derek, uh, Derek probably won't be back next week, but, um, also Derek doesn't have a beard. Um, yeah, it's weird. I kind of don't want to see him, you know, for the listeners, we do video for this. We don't release the video, but we do it to kind of see each other. I don't know that I can handle an hour of beardless Derek. I think I would have some kind of existential crisis.
01:07:13
Speaker
He hardly seems like a wrestling fan anymore if he's not a white middle-aged man with a beard. Exactly. He's just a pud. Just a pud. Just a pud. You're not a pud, Derek. We're just not sure about the beard thing. I don't know.
01:07:35
Speaker
Um, yeah, we'll be back next week. We'll talk about, uh, whatever's going on in the world. Fine. And we'll talk about these memoir games. We'll, we'll have watched it. We promise we'll, we'll be there. I mean, unless they still don't release it, in which case I might blow my stack. I like this time I was real close. I literally.
01:07:53
Speaker
there was something on my work calendar. There was an outlook appointment on my work calendar that said, BMW G for beast man fucking war games. And when I had to delete that calendar invite,
01:08:10
Speaker
i was furious so if it happens again i if there is no episode next week it's probably because the rest of the gang is under legal advisement not to record because they might comment on the horrific homicides that i will be inflicting on the vcw people for not getting my beastman hear that vcw get facts as beastman
01:08:35
Speaker
And and while you're while you're at it, rate, review and subscribe. Do that. Hit the five stars on wherever you're. Whatever app you're listening to us on on Spotify, follow us to do all the things. And you know what? Normally I don't plug my own anything, but I've been so passionate about pro wrestling and football started. I think I started tweeting again at Jimmy Fax. Check it out. I don't know. Maybe I'll stop. But if I am tweeting, it's probably going to be about Beastman.
01:09:04
Speaker
Maybe Beastman joins the New York Giants. Maybe he leaves the Dolphins. The Giants could probably use them. I mean, they did. They won yesterday, but I mean, they could, you know, he'd be a hell of a fullback. Right. Beastman, who's going to stop Beastman? He's who's going to stop the whole time. He's going husk, husk, husk with the ball. I love it. I love it. Garrett, if if you're listening, hit our goddamn music. Yeah, Garrett. Do it.
01:09:33
Speaker
It's been a few days now. Your continuous, unexcused absence from the show is beginning to hurt the podcast and our listeners. And I know you don't care about our listeners, but I do. So if you are willing to show up for next week's show, I will swallow a very bitter pill. And I will admit that Tony Khan needs to fire CM Punk. And I will pay you in several nude pictures. But you have to show up for next week's show. This is my final offer. You're not going to get a better one.
