Introduction and Reconnection

00:00:00
Speaker
Hi.
00:00:00
Speaker
Hey, how you doing?
00:00:03
Speaker
Good.
00:00:03
Speaker
How you feeling?
00:00:06
Speaker
What's going on?
00:00:06
Speaker
Thank you for joining us on a Friday night because you're on the East Coast.
00:00:11
Speaker
Yeah.
00:00:12
Speaker
I appreciate your time, Jordana.
00:00:15
Speaker
I'm happy to reconnect.
00:00:16
Speaker
It feels like forever.
00:00:19
Speaker
I know.
00:00:20
Speaker
You reached out to me, I believe, maybe the summer of 2017.
00:00:24
Speaker
I don't even know how.
00:00:26
Speaker
it all happened, but you were very persistent.
00:00:30
Speaker
You were very blunt.
00:00:34
Speaker
And you knew what you wanted and you did it.
00:00:35
Speaker
And we came together and we did some wonderful things at an event.

Jordana's Background and Heritage

00:00:40
Speaker
And then I had the opportunity to be in your book.
00:00:43
Speaker
It can be you.
00:00:45
Speaker
Yeah.
00:00:45
Speaker
By yourself.
00:00:46
Speaker
But before we get into the details of how we met in the whole concept of your book, just give the people listening and who will be watching, who is Jordana?
00:00:55
Speaker
Where are you from?
00:00:57
Speaker
And how did this...
00:00:58
Speaker
all happened for you?
00:00:59
Speaker
Because I believe you were raised in Brazil, right?
00:01:03
Speaker
Or you were born in Brazil?
00:01:04
Speaker
Yeah.
00:01:05
Speaker
Yeah, no, so first, yeah, I mean, I definitely was, because I saw just how much beauty you bring to the world with like your voice and what you're all about.
00:01:14
Speaker
And I remember like learning about you on the Bachelorette, but then seeing so much more to you as a person.
00:01:21
Speaker
And I'm like, I want to know this person because for me, it's all about like people.
00:01:25
Speaker
And I saw that you were the same way.
00:01:26
Speaker
So that was why the persistence came.
00:01:29
Speaker
But I was born and raised in Brazil in Rio.
00:01:32
Speaker
My parents were born in Egypt.
00:01:35
Speaker
And my ancestors come from Tunisia.
00:01:38
Speaker
So I'm quite a mix.

Challenges and Life Lessons

00:01:40
Speaker
But growing up with all of these different cultures and heritage, I think because Brazil, there's so much poverty, it always like bothered me as a kid.
00:01:50
Speaker
So like growing up, I was always like, I can't wait to get to a day where I can really give back in a big way.
00:01:56
Speaker
But yeah, that's great.
00:01:58
Speaker
And when did you come to the States?
00:02:00
Speaker
So you say you were born in Brazil.
00:02:02
Speaker
When did you move to America?
00:02:04
Speaker
I was 13 years old.
00:02:06
Speaker
And I remember I didn't speak a word of English.
00:02:08
Speaker
It was like super tough.
00:02:11
Speaker
But I was 13.
00:02:12
Speaker
And I actually I learned to speak English through like reading CD lyrics back.
00:02:17
Speaker
I'm aging myself, but it was the CDs with like the lyrics.
00:02:21
Speaker
Yeah.
00:02:22
Speaker
Actually, funny enough, TLC.
00:02:24
Speaker
I was, like, obsessed.
00:02:26
Speaker
I know, actually, to today, every word to every song.
00:02:29
Speaker
So I learned the languages by reading music and reading books.
00:02:33
Speaker
But, yeah, I came at 13.
00:02:35
Speaker
At 13?
00:02:36
Speaker
So did you come with your mom and dad?
00:02:38
Speaker
The whole family came over to America?
00:02:40
Speaker
Came with the whole family.
00:02:42
Speaker
And then when I was, like, 15, 16, my dad did some unorthodox things, and he kind of disappeared.
00:02:50
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:02:51
Speaker
Mom raised me and my three sisters on her own.
00:02:54
Speaker
She's a superwoman for sure.
00:02:55
Speaker
Hey, mama.
00:02:56
Speaker
Yeah.
00:02:57
Speaker
So are you the oldest, youngest, middle child?
00:03:00
Speaker
I'm the oldest, yeah.
00:03:01
Speaker
Okay, got it.
00:03:02
Speaker
So you set the tone.
00:03:04
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:05
Speaker
I'm the oldest and I'm the rebel.
00:03:07
Speaker
So I don't know what's so nice to say.
00:03:09
Speaker
But I was always a rebel in the family because I always knew what I wanted.
00:03:12
Speaker
I'm very strong-headed.
00:03:15
Speaker
So I think, yeah.
00:03:16
Speaker
But yeah.
00:03:17
Speaker
You guys came to New York, right?
00:03:18
Speaker
Did you locate New York?
00:03:19
Speaker
You got here?
00:03:20
Speaker
Who were you?
00:03:21
Speaker
Florida.
00:03:22
Speaker
Okay.
00:03:23
Speaker
Right now I'm in Boca Raton, Florida.
00:03:25
Speaker
I'm in Palm Beach.
00:03:27
Speaker
Okay.
00:03:27
Speaker
We came here and then after that I went to New York and then I moved to California and then I moved to London.
00:03:33
Speaker
Then I came back to New York.
00:03:35
Speaker
Then I went back to Florida.
00:03:37
Speaker
So I was always like a gypsy at heart as my family says.
00:03:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:41
Speaker
I think that's the Gemini because you're a Gemini in you, right?
00:03:45
Speaker
And I think we did your life path number, life path five.
00:03:48
Speaker
freedom loves change, you know, carry it.
00:03:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:52
Speaker
Even all over the world.
00:03:53
Speaker
We love it.
00:03:54
Speaker
So diverse.
00:03:55
Speaker
Well read, well versed.
00:03:56
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:58
Speaker
So, you know, let's talk about I think it was.
00:04:01
Speaker
So before you, you knew the show I was on or you saw me, what were you doing prior to
00:04:07
Speaker
you and I connecting and building a rapport to do, you know, events and put on opportunities and be a part of your collab and it could be you.
00:04:16
Speaker
What were you doing up until that point in your life?

Career Path and Philanthropy

00:04:20
Speaker
Because, man, like since I met you so much has happened, but my whole trajectory to start getting in PR and marketing because, yeah, I just, you know, again, my love in this world is for people.
00:04:34
Speaker
And I feel like through PR and marketing, I got to meet so many people, travel to so many places, help so many people grow, scale their business.
00:04:42
Speaker
Like that was always my passion.
00:04:44
Speaker
And I think that one thing that really drove me is that I see, you know, sometimes I think people overthink the like the key to success.
00:04:53
Speaker
But in reality, if we just are open to what our mission and purpose is on this earth,
00:04:58
Speaker
things just come, right?
00:05:00
Speaker
It naturally gravitates towards you.
00:05:02
Speaker
I'm a big believer in manifestation and all of that.
00:05:06
Speaker
But I think firsthand, like, I mean, for 15 plus years, I was a solopreneur.
00:05:12
Speaker
I traveled around.
00:05:12
Speaker
I was able to like live the life that I wanted to live.
00:05:17
Speaker
And through everything that I would do with PR and marketing, I always wanted to give back.
00:05:21
Speaker
So I would like give to like make a wish, give bones, bullying.
00:05:26
Speaker
I would always have something that I would give back to.
00:05:29
Speaker
And homelessness is something that affected me from when I was like two, three, just because for some reason, I think it was something in me, but I would see like people on the streets in Brazil growing up.
00:05:40
Speaker
And I remember from the age of two, not knowing anything of anything, I would turn around to my dad and be like that and
00:05:46
Speaker
That guy looks like he's cool.
00:05:47
Speaker
Let's buy him a blanket.
00:05:48
Speaker
Dad, let's buy this guy food.
00:05:51
Speaker
It was something that I want.
00:05:52
Speaker
It was something that really spoke to me.
00:05:55
Speaker
And so later in life, as I developed PR and marketing, met a lot of people, I was like, now I think I can help with my community.
00:06:03
Speaker
And then I'm very fortunate that it just kept growing.
00:06:05
Speaker
And now with the book coming out at this specific time, which it took a long time, as you know.
00:06:10
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:06:13
Speaker
I feel like momentum and timing is everything.
00:06:15
Speaker
So yeah.
00:06:16
Speaker
Yeah, and you know, you have such a humanitarian spirit, right, and consciousness that you want to give back.
00:06:22
Speaker
I always say the secret to living is giving.
00:06:25
Speaker
And the more we give, the better we live, because when you accumulate so much,
00:06:31
Speaker
at some point we all going to leave this earth, you want to give what you have, because it's not enough to have it if you can't share it.
00:06:38
Speaker
And I think with you, you are always persistent on not only giving but getting things done so you can give to something or someone.
00:06:47
Speaker
And for homelessness, you know, you talked about growing up, you know, in Brazil with your dad, you know, getting some food or water.
00:06:55
Speaker
Where did the interest or the intention spark where
00:07:01
Speaker
you wanted to kind of get in the space of helping the homeless, getting their story and doing your research to kind of create the foundation of It Can Be You and coming up with the concept.
00:07:12
Speaker
How did that come about?
00:07:14
Speaker
So it's really interesting, actually.
00:07:17
Speaker
I actually grew up as a child in a very affluent household.
00:07:21
Speaker
But because of that, I saw the contrast of having everything and literally walking out of my apartment and seeing people that had nothing.
00:07:29
Speaker
And as a kid, it bothered me.
00:07:31
Speaker
I was like, why do I have all this stuff?
00:07:34
Speaker
And this person is like sitting here and it's like just asking for water.
00:07:38
Speaker
Like, I don't know.
00:07:39
Speaker
It was something that really bothered me.
00:07:41
Speaker
And also because I was growing up in an affluent household, I saw a lot of fighting in my family.
00:07:45
Speaker
I saw a lot of...
00:07:46
Speaker
unhappiness, I saw things that weren't great.
00:07:49
Speaker
So I always had this like really weird relationship with money.
00:07:53
Speaker
Actually, I would say so about like three years ago, I finally realized it's just because you have money, it doesn't mean that bad things have to come with it.
00:08:00
Speaker
You can actually make it be good things.
00:08:03
Speaker
But because I had this like bad relationship with it in the sense that I like all of a sudden was like, you know what?
00:08:08
Speaker
I don't care about material things.
00:08:09
Speaker
I don't care about money.
00:08:11
Speaker
I want to work for free.
00:08:12
Speaker
Like who needs it?
00:08:12
Speaker
Like I just had this really weird relationship
00:08:15
Speaker
But growing up and seeing that and seeing the contrast.
00:08:17
Speaker
So like, and because from when I was also like a teenager, even now, I was in Brazil a few years ago.
00:08:24
Speaker
I'll walk down the street and I would see someone who's like homeless on the street.
00:08:28
Speaker
I actually sit down with them.
00:08:29
Speaker
I remember there was a mom.
00:08:31
Speaker
sitting in front of a bank in Brazil with three kids and I was waiting for a taxi and I saw her and I'm like, I want to talk to her.
00:08:36
Speaker
Like, why not?
00:08:37
Speaker
So I just sat next to her and I'm like, hi, what's your name?
00:08:40
Speaker
Your kids are so cute.
00:08:41
Speaker
We had like a half hour conversation and I actually, my taxi got there.
00:08:44
Speaker
I just let it keep going.
00:08:46
Speaker
I was going to get another one later because I was really having a great conversation with her.
00:08:50
Speaker
And a lot of people are like, you're crazy.
00:08:52
Speaker
Like for sitting, you know, you don't know if this person's going to have like a boyfriend who's going to have a knife.
00:08:57
Speaker
But they're all people.
00:08:58
Speaker
We're all people.
00:08:59
Speaker
We're all people.
00:09:00
Speaker
So, you know, for me, it was just, I think it was growing up with so much, seeing people that had nothing, finding that really unfair and knowing that it was not about how they grew up.
00:09:11
Speaker
They didn't, a lot of them, they don't have the choice.
00:09:13
Speaker
It's just the circumstances sometimes gets them in that position.
00:09:16
Speaker
And then as I grew up and I decided to go on my own and start like working and stuff and get my own place and whatever, I had many moments where
00:09:25
Speaker
Where like, you know, because I was young and like foolish, I would spend all my money and then

Poverty, Empathy, and Humanizing Efforts

00:09:30
Speaker
rent would come up and I'd be like, crap, I have zero in my account.
00:09:33
Speaker
What am I going to do?
00:09:34
Speaker
But because I had family to bail me out, I was able to make those stupid choices.
00:09:39
Speaker
But what about if you don't have family?
00:09:42
Speaker
What about, you know, there's so many things that we take for granted that we think everybody has, but not all of us have that.
00:09:48
Speaker
So, you know, because I've been through many of those and that was just one thing that happened, but there's been many moments in my life, even when I got older that I had to leave everything behind it because I made a bad life decision.
00:09:59
Speaker
But again, family bailed me out.
00:10:02
Speaker
So going through all that, I think it's unfair to stigma that's out there because of homelessness.
00:10:07
Speaker
I think if we all like really, really stop and think of our lives, we've all made a mistake.
00:10:12
Speaker
We've all been in a situation of, uh-oh,
00:10:14
Speaker
And whatever got us out of that, not everybody has that same thing to get out of that.
00:10:19
Speaker
And not everybody has this strong mentality or mindset to get back up.
00:10:25
Speaker
You know, so I just think people have to really think twice before they ignore the homeless and just give them compassion.
00:10:30
Speaker
The moment people start to empathize and have compassion toward the homeless, the more they're going to want to help.
00:10:37
Speaker
If they keep the stigma, the negative stigma, and they think the wrong things that are not true,
00:10:42
Speaker
they're not going to want to help because they have a different, they have a false vision of what homelessness means.
00:10:47
Speaker
So really that's why I put the book together.
00:10:50
Speaker
Yeah.
00:10:51
Speaker
And I think, you know, perception is most of everyone's reality based on how we see it, how we interpret it, you know,
00:11:01
Speaker
you see someone so you automatically go off what you see and not what you know and you judge them.
00:11:05
Speaker
And you, I used to work downtown at a nightclub as a door guy.
00:11:11
Speaker
And I used to have a homeless guy come over and I know he was doing drugs and he was, you know, doing things that shouldn't be done but he was always genuine.
00:11:18
Speaker
and he always would tell me he's like, man, man, bro, you're just so good, man.
00:11:22
Speaker
You're so good to me.
00:11:23
Speaker
You got good energy.
00:11:25
Speaker
And I always would ask him, say, you want something to drink?
00:11:26
Speaker
You want some pizza?
00:11:27
Speaker
I would just go because it was like in a basement of a bar in downtown LA.
00:11:32
Speaker
So I was at the door and I would just go get him water, get him pizza, just make sure he was good.
00:11:36
Speaker
And the powerful thing about giving him attention and giving him energy
00:11:41
Speaker
In return, he wanted to give me something.
00:11:44
Speaker
He tried to get people to come to the club.
00:11:46
Speaker
Hey, it's my boy right here.
00:11:47
Speaker
Come in.
00:11:47
Speaker
You know, he would.
00:11:49
Speaker
And he was like, man, he said, sometimes, man, people walk past me, they don't even acknowledge me.
00:11:54
Speaker
They don't even they act as I'm not even a person.
00:11:56
Speaker
I'm not even there.
00:11:57
Speaker
And he started crying and breaking down.
00:11:59
Speaker
And it was sad because I'm like, I never thought of it like that, right?
00:12:04
Speaker
Because I'm not in that position to see life from his lens, from his perspective.
00:12:11
Speaker
One thing, anybody that's going to listen to this and everyone's watching this, I had a teachable moment one day.
00:12:17
Speaker
So one of the homeless guys, I guess he had got some money for something like social services.
00:12:21
Speaker
I don't know yet.
00:12:22
Speaker
Got a little bit of money.
00:12:22
Speaker
He's like, beginning of the month.
00:12:24
Speaker
He's like, man, that's my boy.
00:12:25
Speaker
Let me buy you a sandwich, man.
00:12:27
Speaker
You know, like, and at this time, I'm probably like 25, 26.
00:12:30
Speaker
It's hard for me to receive still.
00:12:32
Speaker
I don't know how to receive from people.
00:12:34
Speaker
And I'm like, oh, man, it's cool.
00:12:36
Speaker
He's like, come on, man.
00:12:36
Speaker
You always give to me.
00:12:37
Speaker
Come on, man.
00:12:38
Speaker
Let me, let me.
00:12:39
Speaker
You know, he was just like begging me to like, I want to give to you.
00:12:44
Speaker
So I was like, guy, man, can you go to L.A.
00:12:45
Speaker
Cafe and I'll take a chicken salad sandwich.
00:12:49
Speaker
Come back and he gives me the sandwich.
00:12:52
Speaker
At the time, I have a boy at the club trying to get a job at security.
00:12:55
Speaker
He's coming up the stairs.
00:12:57
Speaker
Mind you, I'm out in the front.
00:12:59
Speaker
So God comes back, homeless guy comes back and he gives me the sandwich.
00:13:04
Speaker
And in that same instance, like the law of circulation, the law of receiving and giving, he gave me a sandwich.
00:13:10
Speaker
My boy who was, I was trying to get a job, he gave him $20.
00:13:13
Speaker
And in that moment, I learned the power of receiving.
00:13:18
Speaker
Right?
00:13:19
Speaker
Because I would want to give but not receive and you know there's the equilibrium of having both.
00:13:24
Speaker
So I say all that to say your spirit of giving has allowed me to receive from you to give me a different perspective on what homelessness is.
00:13:33
Speaker
Right?
00:13:34
Speaker
And to understand
00:13:36
Speaker
It could have been me.
00:13:38
Speaker
It can be whoever's listening.
00:13:39
Speaker
It could be anybody.
00:13:40
Speaker
But if we're not living from that perspective, we don't look at it like that, it doesn't affect us.
00:13:46
Speaker
And so I think it's important for people not only to know about your book, but to know about your cause and to know about what you're buying.
00:13:52
Speaker
That's why I asked you earlier, this is my actual more personal question, do you have problems with being seen?
00:13:57
Speaker
Because I had a vision this morning
00:14:00
Speaker
bestseller, billboard New York.
00:14:04
Speaker
Like I get these visions, I'm like, you need to be seen in a way where not for accolades, not for success, but for your message.
00:14:12
Speaker
for what you've been through so people can feel it so they can understand what homelessness is.
00:14:17
Speaker
Even the guy in the book or the girl, whoever that person was, I wish I knew their name.
00:14:21
Speaker
Because one thing I loved about this story that I got compared with, at least they went for it.
00:14:27
Speaker
At least they tried.
00:14:28
Speaker
Totally.
00:14:29
Speaker
You know, they took the chance to believe in something greater than themselves and they didn't make it.
00:14:34
Speaker
But that's better than just sitting still.
00:14:36
Speaker
100%.
00:14:37
Speaker
You know?
00:14:38
Speaker
You know, it's so funny because, and I have a really, like,
00:14:41
Speaker
special announcements to make at the end of this is actually the first time I'm going to announce it.
00:14:45
Speaker
I was thinking, I'm like, do I say it now?
00:14:47
Speaker
Do I wait?
00:14:48
Speaker
I think it'll be a good time to say it because it's super cool.
00:14:50
Speaker
So your vision is interesting and I'll tell you why later.
00:14:53
Speaker
Um, but I will tell you this, like I had a really eyeopening moment.
00:14:58
Speaker
It was about, so right now I'm running a business with my husband.
00:15:02
Speaker
That's like skyrocketed, like, thank God.
00:15:04
Speaker
And a lot of persistence, a lot of hard work, but it's three and a half years in.
00:15:09
Speaker
And when we started the business three and a half years ago, we were putting money out, out, out and money wasn't coming in because it's a new business and we have two babies and we had two babies when we started the business.
00:15:19
Speaker
They're four and five.
00:15:19
Speaker
Now they were two and three.
00:15:21
Speaker
And I remember it got to a point where we were three months behind in rent.
00:15:26
Speaker
We're like, what the hell are we gonna do?
00:15:28
Speaker
So literally we decided, we're like, the only thing that we can do right now is leave everything behind, leave the place, leave all our kids' belongings, leave everything behind.
00:15:40
Speaker
We literally each took a small suitcase.
00:15:42
Speaker
We lost everything that we built in two years with the babies.
00:15:45
Speaker
And we went to Brazil and we lived with his mom in a one bedroom apartment for eight months.
00:15:51
Speaker
And it was so bad that we, like when we had to buy bread for his mom's house that we were staying at, we didn't even have money to buy bread in Brazil.
00:16:00
Speaker
So his mom gave us money to go and buy.
00:16:02
Speaker
It was a really eye-opening experience, but we believed so much in this business that we were building.
00:16:07
Speaker
They were like, no, we're going to make this happen.
00:16:08
Speaker
We're going to go through whatever it is that we have to until we get back out on top and go back to the States.
00:16:13
Speaker
And I remember one day his mom gave me money and I went to go buy bread and I got there.
00:16:19
Speaker
And even though it is the only money I had to buy bread for like my kids and everything for breakfast, there was a lady in front of me.
00:16:26
Speaker
She went to go buy bread and she asked for four loaves.
00:16:28
Speaker
And the guy said, oh, it's this much.
00:16:31
Speaker
And she's like, take one out.
00:16:33
Speaker
But in that moment, I didn't hesitate to be like, no, no, no.
00:16:37
Speaker
I'll pay for that fourth bread for her, even though I knew it was going to be one less for me.
00:16:41
Speaker
And I'm not saying like, oh my gosh, I'm a hero for doing that.
00:16:44
Speaker
But I'm a big believer in like, it's a current, right?
00:16:47
Speaker
We all have to help each other.
00:16:49
Speaker
Because the moment that, you know, and I've always been like that.
00:16:52
Speaker
But after eight months of really struggling and going through like probably one of the hardest things I've had to go through, especially with two babies, because I'm responsible for two other lives.
00:17:02
Speaker
We got back out on top.
00:17:04
Speaker
We came back to the States.
00:17:05
Speaker
Instead of going back to New York, we made the decision to come to Florida because cheaper.
00:17:09
Speaker
And we built our lives back up.
00:17:11
Speaker
And now it's three and a half years into the business.
00:17:13
Speaker
The business is doing great.
00:17:15
Speaker
We are in our house.
00:17:16
Speaker
So I just, you know, and again, I don't think this just happened to me.
00:17:22
Speaker
I'm sure there are many people that hurt things, you know, that this happens to.
00:17:26
Speaker
So I just think we all have to think of one another because you can help someone even when you don't have, but when you do that, when it comes to a point in your life where you really need something,
00:17:37
Speaker
the universe will bring it back in like threefold.
00:17:39
Speaker
I've seen it happen, you know, so many times.
00:17:42
Speaker
And just to give the people context, what year was that when you guys moved back to Brazil?
00:17:46
Speaker
It was like 2008, 2019?
00:17:46
Speaker
Let's see, three and a half years.
00:17:47
Speaker
It was 2018.
00:17:48
Speaker
Yeah, end of 2018, and we stayed till like middle of 2019, so not too long ago.
00:17:51
Speaker
Wow.
00:17:58
Speaker
So recent, wow, congrats, that's big.
00:18:01
Speaker
Progress, ego's happiness.
00:18:03
Speaker
And you always say chances make champions.
00:18:06
Speaker
But it's important, you know, for all of us to go through some type of resistance to teach us about life, about ourselves and to character build, right?
00:18:16
Speaker
Because you get to learn something.
00:18:18
Speaker
about yourself that you probably didn't know.
00:18:20
Speaker
And I think sometimes when we shy away from the resistance or the pain, we even get more of it or we can't really level up our life, right?
00:18:29
Speaker
We can't springboard to the next level.
00:18:32
Speaker
And coming to LA 11 years ago with $1,000 knowing one person, I had to figure things out.
00:18:38
Speaker
You know, I wasn't always in front of the camera doing I was always motivated and being positive.
00:18:43
Speaker
But
00:18:45
Speaker
It could have been me, you know what I'm saying?
00:18:47
Speaker
Being homeless and I wanted to feed off of what you're saying.
00:18:51
Speaker
We got to know that giving doesn't always have to be monetary.
00:18:55
Speaker
Giving can be your energy.
00:18:57
Speaker
Giving can be a listening ear.
00:18:59
Speaker
Giving can be eye contact.
00:19:01
Speaker
Giving can be saying hello.
00:19:05
Speaker
I think I was at Starbucks a few weeks ago and I think the young lady ringing up, I was just like,
00:19:10
Speaker
I like your nails, they're really nice nails.
00:19:12
Speaker
And like, she blushed with her whole energy change.
00:19:15
Speaker
She's like, she's like, thank you.
00:19:16
Speaker
I needed that.
00:19:17
Speaker
Like, oh, those are nice nails.
00:19:18
Speaker
But little nuggets

Fashion Innovation and UN Partnership

00:19:20
Speaker
like that can change the course of someone's day.
00:19:23
Speaker
So thanks to you and It Can Be You and your project, it's opened my eyes to homelessness and everything I've done in this space, because it makes you think.
00:19:33
Speaker
Let's talk about the fashion.
00:19:37
Speaker
Is it innovation?
00:19:38
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:39
Speaker
Right?
00:19:40
Speaker
How did that all come about?
00:19:41
Speaker
Because it was like fashion and technology and where did that all come from?
00:19:47
Speaker
You know what's crazy?
00:19:48
Speaker
Dropping a bucket?
00:19:50
Speaker
No, I mean, this is the crazy thing.
00:19:51
Speaker
Now we're like in partnership with the United Nations.
00:19:55
Speaker
We work with like
00:19:56
Speaker
We've had speakers like Steve Madden, Kenneth Cole.
00:19:59
Speaker
It's crazy how it exploded.
00:20:01
Speaker
And the craziest thing is that we've had now 600 CEOs and founders speak on our platform, all cold emails, cold emails.
00:20:10
Speaker
Oh yeah.
00:20:10
Speaker
You told me about it in New York.
00:20:12
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:12
Speaker
Crazy.
00:20:13
Speaker
Right.
00:20:14
Speaker
And like the craziest thing is that people are like, how, like in three and a half years now, like we've become like a reference in technology and sustainability and we don't come from that world.
00:20:24
Speaker
But I, you know, the reason why I think honestly, we've grown so much is because we started with the why.
00:20:30
Speaker
Why do we do what we do?
00:20:32
Speaker
Why do we build fashion innovation?
00:20:34
Speaker
We didn't start with the what we're offering.
00:20:36
Speaker
We didn't start with the how we're going to offer it, but why are we doing it in the first place?
00:20:41
Speaker
And I honestly believe that is the only reason why we've gotten to where we are because
00:20:45
Speaker
When we sent a cold email to Steve Madden, we literally in the email were just like, our purpose is to democratize the fashion industry, to make it inclusive so that everyone is part of the conversation.
00:20:58
Speaker
And we think that you can inspire globally.
00:21:00
Speaker
And when you think about it, like when, when did other, so Steve Madden is probably used to getting all these emails from a ton of people that want him to speak, but they probably all come to him in a way.
00:21:11
Speaker
They have a hidden agenda.
00:21:12
Speaker
They want them to say something certain or something specific where we really just want them to be themselves.
00:21:18
Speaker
And this is another thing with fashion innovation in a sense, we're humanizing the fashion industry.
00:21:23
Speaker
Like with the book, I want to humanize homelessness.
00:21:26
Speaker
And as I said in the beginning, I think we overthink things sometimes.
00:21:31
Speaker
And I think the power...
00:21:33
Speaker
of change comes from the human connection, the real human connection.
00:21:38
Speaker
That's so important.
00:21:39
Speaker
And like, it's so simple when you really think about it, but it's not so simple to think about it.
00:21:44
Speaker
It's like, it's weird, you know, but it's so easy.
00:21:47
Speaker
Like what we're doing now, right?
00:21:49
Speaker
I'm feeling so much energy from you.
00:21:50
Speaker
Like when you sent me the message, when you got the book, it made me so happy.
00:21:55
Speaker
Yeah, I was happy.
00:21:55
Speaker
Right here.
00:21:58
Speaker
I was happy.
00:21:59
Speaker
You're just like totally.
00:22:02
Speaker
It can be, you know?
00:22:04
Speaker
Like I was so happy because like these colors, the art, the energy that's vibrating, I was like, wow, I didn't even know you had this photo.
00:22:13
Speaker
I was like, I'm so glad I chose it.
00:22:15
Speaker
You know, like it's just the energy that I felt because for me, it feels good to be a part of something that has meaning behind it.
00:22:27
Speaker
You know, I try to live my life with the intentions of legacy.
00:22:31
Speaker
you know, you say, you know, hustle for your first name, you work for your last name.
00:22:36
Speaker
Because, you know, that's why I have books and I read a lot and I write and I think because I wanted just to be more than just a name with a face who was on the show, right?
00:22:46
Speaker
I want to be an entity, an energy, a vibration to help the universe evolve here and have awareness around things like fashion and technology, have awareness around
00:22:55
Speaker
homelessness and the perception behind it and the stigma and how we can change it.
00:22:59
Speaker
Same with suicide prevention and all these things that I work with in mental health that we have to stop looking at it from how it's perceived instead of getting and perceive it from what it really is.
00:23:11
Speaker
Because there are people just like us, you know, and sometimes as influencers or celebrities or people in higher power,
00:23:20
Speaker
the masses sometimes forget that there are people too.
00:23:23
Speaker
They're just like, they have feelings and they go through things.
00:23:27
Speaker
Yeah, so you put this big old red carpet and you roll it out.
00:23:31
Speaker
Yeah, they had to wake up they had to use the restroom and bath like it's all it's all relative.
00:23:38
Speaker
So it's just people just got to like just wake up just a little bit more and realize like,
00:23:45
Speaker
Hey, I got feelings too.
00:23:46
Speaker
I struggle.
00:23:47
Speaker
I suffer.
00:23:48
Speaker
It's not always easy.
00:23:50
Speaker
But guess what?
00:23:51
Speaker
I have a voice.
00:23:52
Speaker
I have a platform.
00:23:53
Speaker
And I have something that I've been gifted with.
00:23:55
Speaker
And I'm going to give it to the world as much as I can.
00:23:57
Speaker
And I think that's what you have, Jordana.
00:23:59
Speaker
And that's why I think you're persisting.
00:24:01
Speaker
You keep going.
00:24:02
Speaker
And you keep pushing.
00:24:02
Speaker
Because you believe more than what you can see.
00:24:06
Speaker
And that's faith.
00:24:08
Speaker
Most times, people believe what they see.
00:24:11
Speaker
You believe what you don't see that you know can appear.
00:24:15
Speaker
That's faith.
00:24:15
Speaker
And I think that's important.
00:24:17
Speaker
And then, you know, it's beautiful.
00:24:19
Speaker
No, 100%.
00:24:19
Speaker
And I see the same thing in you.
00:24:21
Speaker
And honestly, it's funny you said the whole thing about we all wake up, we all go to the bathroom.
00:24:26
Speaker
Because a few days ago, I met with someone with a very high stature, and I was really nervous.
00:24:32
Speaker
And my husband was like, don't be nervous.
00:24:33
Speaker
This is what you do.
00:24:34
Speaker
When you see that person, just imagine them.
00:24:38
Speaker
And I'm sorry to use this word.
00:24:39
Speaker
Imagine them shitting in the bathroom.
00:24:41
Speaker
Right, right, right, right, right.
00:24:43
Speaker
You're gonna be fine.
00:24:44
Speaker
And then now.
00:24:45
Speaker
That's the realest thing ever.
00:24:47
Speaker
Because I have a conversation with my cousin about that is that, you know, cancel culture and celebrity this, followers that, engagement that.
00:24:57
Speaker
Listen, when we turn these cameras off,
00:25:00
Speaker
we got to go back and look at ourselves in the mirror.
00:25:03
Speaker
Forget the Forbes list say, the stats say, how many rings you have, if you're married, if you live in a... Hey, guess what?
00:25:10
Speaker
You got feelings.
00:25:12
Speaker
You got emotions.
00:25:13
Speaker
You hurt, you cry, you got pain, you're a human being.
00:25:16
Speaker
And so we always got to realize that no one gets out of life without wounds, right?
00:25:23
Speaker
Like no one gets out of life unscathed.
00:25:25
Speaker
Like you're going to get some wounds on yourself.
00:25:27
Speaker
Yeah.
00:25:29
Speaker
Otherwise, you're right.
00:25:31
Speaker
Yeah, it's like so it's important for people to not only gain perspective and awareness, but be open to something different.
00:25:38
Speaker
Yeah, eating the homeless or, you know, going to events like the fashion innovation and getting a book like it can be you humanizing homelessness and doing your research on your company and yourself.
00:25:52
Speaker
Because we need more conversations like this because this is humanizing our thoughts and our mind.
00:25:58
Speaker
100%.
00:25:58
Speaker
Because we don't know what's going to happen six months from now, a year from now.
00:26:02
Speaker
Especially in the world that we're living in.
00:26:05
Speaker
So can you speak briefly on what is it like being a mom?
00:26:09
Speaker
Because I think when we met, you was even born with your first child or you were just about to have it, I think, if I'm not mistaken.
00:26:15
Speaker
Yeah, now I have a four and a five-year-old, which is crazy.
00:26:18
Speaker
Yeah.
00:26:19
Speaker
It's amazing.
00:26:20
Speaker
It's the best thing in the world.
00:26:22
Speaker
I wouldn't trade it for anything.
00:26:24
Speaker
It's a lot of work.
00:26:26
Speaker
It's a lot of ability.
00:26:29
Speaker
But at the same time, you really get to mold.
00:26:33
Speaker
I'm a big believer in impact.
00:26:35
Speaker
So like everything I do with them, even when, you know, something small, like they'll have a bite of an ice cream and it'll be like, I don't want it anymore.
00:26:43
Speaker
And then I'm like, guys, before you ask for something, make sure you really want it because there are people that are hungry and they don't have that same ice cream.
00:26:49
Speaker
So even though they're four and five, I already say that to them.
00:26:52
Speaker
And the same thing like, you know, with toys when they have like, they get too many gifts.
00:26:56
Speaker
I'm like, okay, let's look at things that you're not playing with anymore and let's give it away.
00:26:59
Speaker
So like, you can really create like little people that will become bigger and they'll be able to, you know, make impact as well.
00:27:07
Speaker
So that's super.
00:27:08
Speaker
That's beautiful.
00:27:10
Speaker
Now that statement, is that a slogan?
00:27:13
Speaker
Did you tag that or coin that in one of your books?
00:27:16
Speaker
Website?
00:27:16
Speaker
Because no, hear me out.
00:27:19
Speaker
You said, make sure you, what did you say?
00:27:22
Speaker
Make sure you want something before you ask for it.
00:27:24
Speaker
Something like that.
00:27:25
Speaker
What did you say?
00:27:27
Speaker
That's what I said, right?
00:27:28
Speaker
And so basically, I think that rings bells in all genres of life and all things, you know, because most people want success, they want love, they want happiness, they want fulfillment, they want money.
00:27:40
Speaker
But if they never had it, they don't know what it takes to get it, or they don't understand what it is to have it.
00:27:46
Speaker
And then get it and it's not what they really want.
00:27:48
Speaker
So that is very intentional of you to tell your kids that at a young age, because that's
00:27:54
Speaker
putting in their mind and subconscious that like, do I really want to eat right now?
00:27:58
Speaker
Do I want this job or I'm saying I want it because it sounds good?
00:28:02
Speaker
Do I want to be married?
00:28:04
Speaker
Do I want to go to college?
00:28:05
Speaker
Yeah.
00:28:06
Speaker
Because when you come from that place of I feel like you're just thinking out loud, you live a more clear life.
00:28:14
Speaker
Yeah, totally.
00:28:15
Speaker
When I was working in corporate America and I was working for like, you know, big corporation as a manager or whatever, we would have a break.
00:28:23
Speaker
And at your break, you go on your break, you have food.
00:28:26
Speaker
And then I realized when I quit the job to work for myself, I had all this time because I was trying to create a new life.
00:28:33
Speaker
I wasn't really hungry as much as I thought I was.
00:28:35
Speaker
But on a job, they make you and program you to believe that you should eat when it's lunchtime or break time.
00:28:41
Speaker
So a lot of things that are given to us or how we operate is from a program.
00:28:45
Speaker
Yeah.
00:28:47
Speaker
but we've been conditioned on and I just love that for your kids because that makes them more aware of what they're asking for and that everyone doesn't have the opportunity to ask for anything.
00:28:59
Speaker
Yeah, no totally and even like my five-year-old bought a sweater a few days ago and then she loved it and then the second day she went to school I'm like it's cool to put a sweater on and she's like I don't like it.
00:29:09
Speaker
I'm like but you just bought it yesterday.
00:29:11
Speaker
She's like everyone in class told me that I'm wearing my mom's sweater
00:29:15
Speaker
So then I looked at her and I'm like, are you a leader or are you a follower?
00:29:19
Speaker
I was like, you're a leader?
00:29:21
Speaker
You're going to wear the sweater and be like, it looks good and I don't care what you say.
00:29:24
Speaker
If you're a follower, you don't wear the sweater.
00:29:26
Speaker
It's up to you.
00:29:27
Speaker
And you can see, I mean, she's only five, but she looked very confused, but it made her think for a minute.
00:29:33
Speaker
She didn't wear the sweater, but still, like, because I think it's, so that's the fun part is really you get to create these little humans and
00:29:42
Speaker
you know, what you put when you what you teach them is what a lot of it is going to be their influence when they get older, you know, amazing.
00:29:50
Speaker
It is, again, a lot of work.
00:29:52
Speaker
um and it definitely changes your life i mean i live for them now that's that's you know i always say you know if you can you should have offsprings because you know later in life you want something to live for yeah if you're a career no profession doesn't keep you busy and over my time like my i have four and a half three nephews and a niece and what i discovered from kids
00:30:16
Speaker
kids don't respond to what you tell them, they respond to who you are.
00:30:20
Speaker
So my nephew's for instance, he doesn't like eating his vegetables, right?
00:30:24
Speaker
So his dad or mom would FaceTime me to get him to eat, like uncle eat.
00:30:31
Speaker
But you know, the energy I would give him and the charisma and then to get him to think he would eat it.
00:30:40
Speaker
But at the same time, I realized it's not because I'm his uncle, it's because of who I am.
00:30:45
Speaker
You know, it's like, because I'm like, I'm going to have some with you, nephew.
00:30:48
Speaker
Like, it was a good Uncle E. Look, look, look, I work out.
00:30:52
Speaker
Remember when we do the push-ups together?
00:30:54
Speaker
That's what happened.
00:30:55
Speaker
You do push-ups, you play the game.
00:30:56
Speaker
Like, you got to give them a story, a narrative that makes sense to their psyche for them to be like,
00:31:01
Speaker
Yeah, like, yeah, you got tied in a basketball game.
00:31:03
Speaker
Remember, you didn't eat your veggies.
00:31:06
Speaker
Gotta eat the veggies, you know, it's like, they get, they start thinking like, you know what, like you made a, like, you're a leader or you're a follower.
00:31:13
Speaker
So it's important to like give kids the gift that we got or didn't get as young adults or young children.
00:31:20
Speaker
And I'm just happy for you.
00:31:22
Speaker
I'm proud of you, Jordana, you've been so consistent.
00:31:25
Speaker
And even when you reached out to me, I don't even know.
00:31:27
Speaker
I think you, yeah, he's like, did you ever get the book?
00:31:30
Speaker
And I was like, no.
00:31:31
Speaker
And he's like, didn't even say anything.
00:31:34
Speaker
You just took action.
00:31:35
Speaker
And then like three weeks later, I got two books in the mail.
00:31:37
Speaker
And so that's one thing I love about you.
00:31:40
Speaker
You're about that action.
00:31:41
Speaker
You taking action.
00:31:42
Speaker
I'm going, okay, cool.
00:31:43
Speaker
Don't, you know?
00:31:48
Speaker
I have to tell you, so like

Docuseries and Book Promotion

00:31:50
Speaker
two, a few things of the book that I have to mention, then I'm going to tell you a really cool, like surprise that I think you're going to love.
00:31:57
Speaker
I hope you're going to love.
00:31:58
Speaker
Um, so one, um, the book could not have been published.
00:32:02
Speaker
It couldn't have been, it couldn't have come to fruition had it not been for Susan Rockefeller who actually came on board as a partner when she found out about the project and helped me fund the entire publishing deal without her would not be here.
00:32:16
Speaker
So she's amazing.
00:32:19
Speaker
Who is that by the way?
00:32:19
Speaker
For too many of us who don't know.
00:32:21
Speaker
Susan Rockefeller is the wife of the last standing Rockefeller from the Rockefeller show.
00:32:28
Speaker
Oh wow.
00:32:29
Speaker
Wow.
00:32:29
Speaker
How did that actually come out?
00:32:31
Speaker
Like that's great.
00:32:33
Speaker
Super grateful for her for that.
00:32:35
Speaker
She's amazing.
00:32:36
Speaker
She's so humble.
00:32:37
Speaker
Incredible.
00:32:38
Speaker
And then the cover of the book was actually an artist, Jason Naylor, who's really famous for like street art in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
00:32:46
Speaker
You see his stuff everywhere, all about love, positivity, hope, incredible.
00:32:51
Speaker
So that was the cover.
00:32:53
Speaker
And of course, the 47 Influencers Yourself made it happen.
00:32:56
Speaker
It wouldn't have happened without you guys.
00:32:58
Speaker
But the one really cool thing that I have to share is that, so 30% of all the profits of the book are going to help USA.
00:33:07
Speaker
which is actually the organization in New York and it's run by the Cuomo family, by Governor Cuomo and his family.
00:33:14
Speaker
The really good news is that two nights ago, I was in New York and I met for dinner with Maria Cuomo, who's the sister to Governor Cuomo, who's and it's Cole, and she's a filmmaker on top of everything else that she does.
00:33:29
Speaker
And she said that she wants to create a docu-series on the book.
00:33:35
Speaker
is actually going to LA in about a week.
00:33:40
Speaker
And she wants me to introduce her to a few people that are in the book, AKA you being one of them.
00:33:47
Speaker
And he's going to already be with her filmmaker and they want to create a movie.
00:33:51
Speaker
um docu movie on the book so it's super super exciting oh yeah i definitely want to meet him because as soon as you said that i got visions of i love that's one thing you're not gonna be in that yeah documentaries documentaries because it's so raw so real it's in the moment yeah and she wants to get the stories she wants to dive deeper into the stories and then she it's gonna be amazing so yeah
00:34:17
Speaker
the first time I'm saying it out loud.
00:34:18
Speaker
So I'm super.
00:34:19
Speaker
Yeah.
00:34:19
Speaker
Congratulations.
00:34:20
Speaker
That'll be broadcast on every platform.
00:34:23
Speaker
Yeah.
00:34:24
Speaker
To, you know, Spotify, to Apple Music, to Google, you know, it's more YouTube.
00:34:28
Speaker
So, hey, you guys, it can be you, docu-series.
00:34:33
Speaker
By the way, I was curious.
00:34:35
Speaker
So the people that were compared in the book, I noticed they didn't have
00:34:39
Speaker
a name next to them.
00:34:40
Speaker
Do you have that context?
00:34:42
Speaker
Do you keep in touch with some of them?
00:34:44
Speaker
Like, what's the history on the people?
00:34:46
Speaker
Did they get better?
00:34:47
Speaker
Did they become, did they get back on their feet?
00:34:50
Speaker
I'm just curious.
00:34:50
Speaker
This is the thing that I couldn't do.
00:34:52
Speaker
So I did it all on my own and I didn't have the funding to really help them get out of the, I sat with them.
00:34:58
Speaker
I gave them a meal, I gave them a pair of socks and I got a street team and we got their stories.
00:35:03
Speaker
A lot of them don't want photos taken.
00:35:05
Speaker
They don't want videos.
00:35:07
Speaker
They don't share that much personal information.
00:35:08
Speaker
There's one video that I was able to capture that's on YouTube of a homeless that's pregnant in the, what is it, in New York City at the Port Authority.
00:35:20
Speaker
But a lot of people, they don't want to give that information.
00:35:23
Speaker
I do have the locations where each story was transcripted.
00:35:27
Speaker
They could still be there, but I don't know.
00:35:29
Speaker
But that's why I really...
00:35:33
Speaker
you know, that's why I help USA for me is somebody that I'm hoping they can take that second step because I want to create like the awareness of,
00:35:41
Speaker
And then I wanted to be able to not just stop at the book, but get these stories going, put the stories on a platform, continue to bring voices like you and other influencers that have a platform to upload their voices.
00:35:54
Speaker
And then when I do get their stories, be able to be like, Hey, help USA.
00:35:58
Speaker
I just interviewed this person.
00:36:00
Speaker
This is their story.
00:36:00
Speaker
Can we help him and his family or can we help him?
00:36:03
Speaker
So that would be the ideal scenario.
00:36:04
Speaker
But I didn't have all of that like put together when I wrote the book, unfortunately.
00:36:09
Speaker
Well, I always believe, you know, at the right time, the right things happen.
00:36:13
Speaker
And if, you know, you have somebody on board who wants to do a film, I think that's just going to transcend and really take it to the next level.
00:36:22
Speaker
In the minds and hearts of people in the world to know that, you know, it can be you.
00:36:26
Speaker
But at the same time, it doesn't have to be the way it is.
00:36:29
Speaker
Because I've met homeless people.
00:36:32
Speaker
who love their lifestyle.
00:36:35
Speaker
Some of them, they don't want responsibility.
00:36:37
Speaker
They like, you know, the assistance they might get from government or housing, whatever, you know, but they do deserve acknowledgement when you walk past them.
00:36:45
Speaker
They do deserve some type of responsibility.
00:36:48
Speaker
you know, attention, they're people.
00:36:50
Speaker
So I think shift the paradigm through your lens, through your perspective, about homelessness and humanizing it, and getting people to understand a real perspective on what it's about, maybe we can have more compassion and grace throughout the universe.
00:37:05
Speaker
And maybe that can transcend
00:37:07
Speaker
in other worlds and other countries to see what it's about, what it is, what is it about being homeless, why people are homeless and our views and perspective on it.
00:37:18
Speaker
Because maybe there are people who are homeless, but they're happy.
00:37:21
Speaker
We don't think about that.
00:37:23
Speaker
You know, there are people who have homes that are not happy.
00:37:25
Speaker
So I'm not comparing.
00:37:26
Speaker
I'm just saying it's all perspective.
00:37:28
Speaker
And it's time for us to kind of like pull the curtain back and kind of look from a different eye lens.
00:37:34
Speaker
And it's important.
00:37:35
Speaker
So thank you.
00:37:37
Speaker
Yeah.
00:37:38
Speaker
Thank you.
00:37:38
Speaker
And I'm really excited because

Future Plans and Collaborative Efforts

00:37:40
Speaker
I couldn't think of a better person.
00:37:41
Speaker
I mean, I knew of her.
00:37:43
Speaker
But when I met her two years ago, I was really impressed.
00:37:46
Speaker
She really has a huge heart.
00:37:48
Speaker
And she works with a lot of different foundations to help USA being the primary one.
00:37:53
Speaker
But just the fact that she wants to invest in creating this film and doing it all like, you know, herself, possibly bringing Susan Rockefeller because they're friends and she's also a filmmaker.
00:38:03
Speaker
So that would be amazing to have the two of them come together in that.
00:38:07
Speaker
But regardless, I think like putting that in a visual way where people can watch and see people speak and hear stories and have that comparison in a visual setting, I think will be really powerful.
00:38:21
Speaker
So I'm super, when she told me, I was like, I literally only flew out to meet her because she kept, she was actually texting me and going after me like, Hey, I want to create this film.
00:38:30
Speaker
Hey, I want to create, like, it was crazy.
00:38:32
Speaker
I was like, Oh my gosh, I got to go and meet with her, you know?
00:38:34
Speaker
So super cool.
00:38:36
Speaker
And I, I have really big visions for it.
00:38:38
Speaker
I'm bummed that I didn't get to put the attention on the book when it came out that I wanted to, because I had to put time into the business because I have to feed my family in order to keep doing these things.
00:38:49
Speaker
So it was like,
00:38:51
Speaker
But now, luckily, we have a team.
00:38:54
Speaker
So I'm going to start taking some time to fully focus on the book because we've sold about 360 copies so far.
00:39:01
Speaker
But I want to.
00:39:04
Speaker
I think we could do so much more.
00:39:05
Speaker
And I think I just.
00:39:07
Speaker
Yeah.
00:39:08
Speaker
You can do something like affiliate marketing.
00:39:10
Speaker
Yeah.
00:39:11
Speaker
You can get people like links and do like little discount calls to swipe up.
00:39:15
Speaker
Yeah.
00:39:16
Speaker
Do little 15 second or 30 second videos, put some ads behind it.
00:39:20
Speaker
Yeah.
00:39:20
Speaker
So many things you can do because even with my book,
00:39:23
Speaker
my intentions were to sell 100 copies in a month, right?
00:39:27
Speaker
So I did that, and then I sold another 100 copies.
00:39:30
Speaker
But it was all just constantly on, you know, Instagram, you know, boom.
00:39:34
Speaker
But once you get that momentum and people buying, you feel good.
00:39:39
Speaker
And, you know, the marketing strategy of the sales thing is it takes people at least between 7 or 11 times before they really pay attention to what you're posting for them to kind of like buy it.
00:39:49
Speaker
And it's been a good job at PostDNF.
00:39:51
Speaker
And this is why...
00:39:52
Speaker
grateful to you because this is this actually has like i told our coo at our company i was like i need two days a week off to fully focus on the book and i do that but you pushed me when you when i get a message i'm like no like i can't stop i can't wait anymore and that's when i like booked my trip to new york i met with her about the film i'm doing this with you and i'm like this is the time and i can't like you know of course i still have to work but this really has like
00:40:21
Speaker
it's really important.
00:40:22
Speaker
This whole thing is really important.
00:40:24
Speaker
So, and I appreciate you so much for that because your excitement really good.
00:40:29
Speaker
Like you're very, you're a very special soul in the sense that when you like, when you say something, it,
00:40:36
Speaker
it really comes from your heart.
00:40:38
Speaker
So I appreciate you so much.
00:40:39
Speaker
Because it's like, you know, sometimes to be honest, to be transparent, sometimes I'm so much in my world that I'm not aware of the things I've experienced or done.
00:40:49
Speaker
Because, you know, in this town, in this world, sometimes it's all about, okay, what's next?
00:40:54
Speaker
And then that really,
00:40:56
Speaker
triggered me in a great way and say, man, look at this, man.
00:41:00
Speaker
Like, you know, like, look, like you're in a book with something that has meaning and a cause behind it.
00:41:05
Speaker
And so it made me appreciate the connection we built, the time we built it, and for me to put the time and energy into it to have it to say, I have, you know, nephews, I have relatives, I have people that I love and say, listen, this is someone that you know from Baltimore or I grew up this way.
00:41:25
Speaker
It could be you.
00:41:26
Speaker
It could have been me, but I kept going.
00:41:28
Speaker
So let's not take nothing for granted.
00:41:30
Speaker
Let's not take ourselves or people that are homeless.
00:41:33
Speaker
Give everybody respect.
00:41:35
Speaker
Love everybody from the kindness of your heart and show up.
00:41:38
Speaker
Because, Jordana, you are a true example of showing up, being authentic, being persistent, and doing what you think is best.
00:41:47
Speaker
Thoughts become things.
00:41:48
Speaker
You had a thought, a vision, and now you brought it to fruition.
00:41:52
Speaker
And now it's going to be global.
00:41:54
Speaker
You know, and that's why I said the vision I got this morning.
00:41:56
Speaker
I'm like, because yesterday I had an interview on live and the lady's name is Gina DeVee and she talks about being visible and about being seen.
00:42:07
Speaker
And when I see you, I see bestseller.
00:42:09
Speaker
I see you in a nice business, you smiling with your book.
00:42:12
Speaker
I see you on billboards in New York.
00:42:14
Speaker
I see you having a talk show.
00:42:16
Speaker
I see you coaching and motivating and having a charity that helps homeless people get back
00:42:23
Speaker
And to life and to living.
00:42:25
Speaker
I see you getting them counseling and therapy.
00:42:27
Speaker
Like I see these things.
00:42:28
Speaker
I feel these things.
00:42:29
Speaker
I'm very like empathic.
00:42:31
Speaker
And I don't know.
00:42:32
Speaker
It's just like your name and just your essence and where you come from, what you've been through.
00:42:38
Speaker
And so I just want to say I'm thankful for you and all that you bring.
00:42:42
Speaker
And, you know, as much, you know, you got what it takes to get where you want to go.
00:42:46
Speaker
And it might not happen right now, but it's going to happen because we're speaking on it.
00:42:51
Speaker
And so I'm just honored to kind of just have you here and just talk and catch up because it's been so long.
00:42:58
Speaker
My life changed a lot in different ways.
00:43:00
Speaker
But I'm understanding my purpose now.
00:43:02
Speaker
I know my purpose here on Earth.
00:43:03
Speaker
I know I'm here to transform lives and I'm a messenger and I'm here to help people heal and evolve and also shine light on authenticity and be transparent.
00:43:13
Speaker
Like, do we suffer?
00:43:15
Speaker
Yes.
00:43:16
Speaker
Does things get tough?
00:43:17
Speaker
Yes.
00:43:18
Speaker
Like everyone has it, this microwave success and it's easy.
00:43:21
Speaker
And it's like, no, like all those books back here, I probably read about 80% of them.
00:43:26
Speaker
But when people see me like, oh, you're amazing.
00:43:28
Speaker
Like, you know how much time I pray, I meditate, I work, I do a lot of work to present myself so I can help people in need.
00:43:35
Speaker
But at the same time, it works when you're working.
00:43:39
Speaker
Oh, I have to say, you're amazing, really.
00:43:41
Speaker
And everything you said, I took it, I accepted it, and I totally believe it coming from you.
00:43:45
Speaker
I really do.
00:43:46
Speaker
You talking.
00:43:48
Speaker
And I really believe that you have a way of doing that.
00:43:51
Speaker
And I definitely, we shouldn't just wait for another opportunity to do this to keep in touch.
00:43:56
Speaker
We have to keep in touch more often because.
00:43:59
Speaker
Sure, because I have another vision.
00:44:00
Speaker
My visions keep coming through because I know we are.
00:44:03
Speaker
There's an agency called Scouts Agency.
00:44:06
Speaker
So they send me a lot of podcast guests and interviews on IG Live.
00:44:11
Speaker
And it's women's base.
00:44:13
Speaker
You should look it up.
00:44:13
Speaker
I know the owner.
00:44:14
Speaker
I interviewed her.
00:44:15
Speaker
Her name is Scout.
00:44:16
Speaker
Sobel and I think I don't know if you want to run PR but I think you should go on tour and do like 15 to 20 podcasts and talk about your foundation talk about it can be you get on a local news station in New York and let you know like get it out there again like let's reboot it but you know it's in a book and do a podcast.
00:44:38
Speaker
Throw out a vision to you and then I know we can keep going but we'll do it.
00:44:41
Speaker
I'm going to throw it back out at you.
00:44:44
Speaker
I don't feel like I should be the only one interviewed in a book.
00:44:49
Speaker
I feel like all of it, everybody in the book should.
00:44:51
Speaker
So I think like what would be super cool is getting these press opportunities, which I have the press contacts.
00:44:57
Speaker
I just have to go after them.
00:44:59
Speaker
So going after them and then let's say one of them picks it up and they say, I want to do an interview instead of me doing it.
00:45:06
Speaker
I could be like, Hey, for this interview, Eric Baker will be perfect for it.
00:45:10
Speaker
For this interview, let's put this person here.
00:45:13
Speaker
I could do a few of them, but I think it's a collaboration.
00:45:15
Speaker
Oh yeah, for sure.
00:45:17
Speaker
Yeah, I'm all for it.
00:45:19
Speaker
I'm all for it.
00:45:20
Speaker
Because I believe in order to get, you just, this book just put things in perspective.
00:45:25
Speaker
I don't care who you are.
00:45:26
Speaker
It's going to make everyone, like say someone like Shaq sees this book.
00:45:31
Speaker
Just never know what the impact it'll have on someone like that.
00:45:33
Speaker
Like people need to know about the book in such a meaningful way.
00:45:37
Speaker
Thank you.
00:45:38
Speaker
Great.
00:45:39
Speaker
I just want to say thank you for being here.
00:45:41
Speaker
Is there anything else we should know about?
00:45:43
Speaker
Whatever social platforms are you on?
00:45:46
Speaker
How can people reach out to you?
00:45:48
Speaker
What else are you working on?
00:45:49
Speaker
Any new projects outside of the documentary?
00:45:52
Speaker
You got the business with your husband.
00:45:54
Speaker
You got the kids.
00:45:56
Speaker
Anything else?
00:45:57
Speaker
Where can we go get the book?
00:45:58
Speaker
That's another thing.
00:45:59
Speaker
So the book is Amazon.com.
00:46:01
Speaker
Amazon are really cool, but Amazon is quick.
00:46:04
Speaker
It's easy.
00:46:04
Speaker
Yeah.
00:46:06
Speaker
Amazon.
00:46:06
Speaker
And what I want to do actually, so like, as far as like anybody can reach out to me, I love talking to people.
00:46:13
Speaker
But what I would love to do is anybody watching this that wants a copy or listening after to the podcast that wants a copy of the book, the first five people that send me a message, you could just DM me, you don't have to follow me, just send me a DM and be like, hey, listen to your podcast.
00:46:27
Speaker
I would love to send a book as a gift.
00:46:29
Speaker
Actually, it's something that I've been doing.
00:46:31
Speaker
I have like boxes of it at home.
00:46:32
Speaker
So when I go to the airport now,
00:46:34
Speaker
I take a few in my bag and I'll just walk around randomly and then I'll see somebody and I'll be like, oh my gosh, this person looks like Dave would like the book.
00:46:42
Speaker
And I just feel it.
00:46:43
Speaker
I'm like you.
00:46:44
Speaker
I just and then I go up to them and I'm like, hey, I just wrote a book and I give you a copy.
00:46:48
Speaker
And you're like, OK.
00:46:49
Speaker
And then they take it and it starts conversation.
00:46:51
Speaker
This book is supposed to be a conversation.
00:46:53
Speaker
So I would love to get five copies away.
00:46:57
Speaker
And yeah, I would just love to.
00:46:59
Speaker
Oh, there you go.
00:47:00
Speaker
So Deanna Volk actually bought one of the books.
00:47:03
Speaker
She said she had it in her coffee table book and that she loves to design and she tells everybody to get one and she just put the link there.
00:47:09
Speaker
So thank you, Deanna.
00:47:11
Speaker
But yeah, I honestly like this is such a pleasure.
00:47:14
Speaker
I really adore you as a person.
00:47:16
Speaker
I think you're amazing.
00:47:17
Speaker
And thank you so much because you really just inspired me again.
00:47:21
Speaker
And now... Oh, it's miracle season.
00:47:24
Speaker
But I don't know, come on.
00:47:27
Speaker
Let's do it.
00:47:28
Speaker
What are we doing?
00:47:29
Speaker
Let's go.
00:47:30
Speaker
The moon, are we?
00:47:33
Speaker
I love it.
00:47:35
Speaker
Oh, no.
00:47:36
Speaker
I just, I get inspired by things that touch my heart that mean something to me because I know what it's like to feel alone and I know what it's like to be lonely at times.
00:47:44
Speaker
So I can only imagine someone
00:47:46
Speaker
who at times doesn't have the mental fortitude, how I can break them down and they just want to give up.
00:47:51
Speaker
Right.
00:47:52
Speaker
And so if I see something where I can add my energy or my value, I want to lift it up and give people perspective.
00:47:57
Speaker
Come on, man.
00:47:58
Speaker
That's all donate.
00:47:59
Speaker
Let's all get a book.
00:48:00
Speaker
Let's talk about it.
00:48:02
Speaker
Yeah.
00:48:03
Speaker
So thank you.
00:48:05
Speaker
This was amazing.
00:48:06
Speaker
Let's keep in touch.
00:48:07
Speaker
Let's keep in touch.
00:48:09
Speaker

00:48:11
Speaker

00:48:14
Speaker

00:48:20
Speaker
And I'll let you know.
00:48:21
Speaker

00:48:23
Speaker

00:48:24

00:48:30

00:48:32

00:48:33
Speaker

00:48:34
Speaker

00:48:34
Speaker
