Introduction and Host's Background

Hello there, I'm Satsunami, a variety streamer on Twitch. Recently I've been playing games like Red Dead Redemption 2, The Fall Guys and the widely beloved Sonic 06. If that sounds like your cup of tea, then you can find me on Twitch, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube under the name Satsunami42. As always, stay safe, stay awesome and most importantly, stay hydrated.

Before we go into the chat comments, first of all, thank you both so much for joining me today on this. Always appreciated. So let's get back into the chat.

Nostalgia Kickoff: Banjo Kazoo on N64

00:00:36
Speaker
Green Shield had started off saying, what is the best childhood game and why is it Banjo Kazoo on the N64? Did you guys ever play Banjo Kazoo?
00:00:45
Speaker
never played a banjo because I'll leave this to you too. So I went back and played one not too long ago because I heard some good hype about that Yooka-Laylee games. This was whenever that came out three or four years ago. You know how I was saying some games don't age so well? 3D platforms? Not the games for me. Didn't play them as a kid and I think it's too late to jump on the bandwagon.
00:01:07
Speaker
I have to admit, I'm the complete opposite because I know a lot of people like it. There was a certain point when there was a resurgence in 2D platformer games and everyone was like, oh, it's amazing and everything. That, for me, I
00:01:22
Speaker
as I said before with Sonic I prefer like the 3D games because I like at least like to know where I'm going and kind of things and to like get a feel of where I'm going but I don't know I feel as if like if you're like going you know scrolling to the side and you can't see like what's in front of which I know is part of the game but I don't like the unknown okay but in terms of in terms of Banjo Kazooie I absolutely love that game
00:01:49
Speaker
growing up but as i said it's like a really solid game and i think maybe like one day i will like return to it on stream and i might like play through it but yeah it is it is really solid it is not not for the faint heart and i never played the second one um i played the first one loved it but never got round to playing the second so if i complete the first one on stream then yeah maybe
00:02:12
Speaker
I think a lot of these mascot platformers are like, people have such a big attachment to

Mascot Platformers & Childhood Memories

00:02:17
Speaker
them. Like, just think of it like Crash Bandicoot Spyro, Mario, the insert character here. People have such an attachment to some of these games. And I think when you were talking about like the healthy dose of nostalgia, if you know the game.
00:02:28
Speaker
and you already kind of know what you're doing then these games are so obvious and they're so fun but i just because when you go in to drop brand new into these games as an adult a lot of times are quite difficult just because something's just unexplained like you know i mean don't think you just allowed as a kid for trial and error yeah for that i don't have time
00:02:45
Speaker
So this is quite bad but I remember like before the lockdown and everything I remember Adam and I were kind of meeting up and I got... so it was like kind of an exchange of games before this all went off and Adam was getting me to play some games from his childhood and I was like getting him to play Sonic Adventure but there was a lot of moments where he was playing it
00:03:12
Speaker
It was so funny, he was playing like certain bits and I was kind of like, you know that way when like a parent's like teaching someone or like their child something for the first time and it's like that restless leg like saying, oh no, go this way. No, no, go that way. And then you're like, right, give me the control.
00:03:47
Speaker
To be fair though like for all that games like jankin as you did really bad
00:03:59
Speaker
Yeah, but then they stepped out so I had to take over.

PC Gaming Nostalgia: Cereal Box Games

00:04:04
Speaker
Oh yeah, it was an experience, like a shared experience.
00:04:12
Speaker
So going back to what we were saying about the, there's quite a few people saying that they used to get serial PC games, which is actually quite awesome. So sorry, I'm reading Green Chill's comments saying, I didn't eat it, but my brother did. Oh, right, the serial.
00:04:31
Speaker
This game is so tasty. It was also saying I had a LAN before time game. Okay, that's the end. And then MTRZ Gaming, hey there, saying I remember a Cartoon Network DVD thing I got in the serial. It had two cartoons, CD-ROM games, and some video game previews for the original Xbox. They really used to pack a lot. Like I remember getting like a place, it wasn't serial, but it was like a PlayStation,
00:04:58
Speaker
What was it? It was like a magazine for the PlayStation? Yeah and you would get like a demo disc and that and there were so many games in it that you could like try and play. Whereas nowadays obviously you can download the demos and things but like back at the end there was like there was so much content in the one disc and to which Greenjill just followed up and said Spy just saw it here. True.
00:05:19
Speaker
I haven't played solitaire in ages. Martha saying the best game ever was Minesweeper. How many hours of work lost with that one? Did you guys ever get into the minesweeper rabbit hole? Oh yeah, a couple times. I got pretty decent attitude in uni. Once I figured out what the numbers actually meant, it was all gold from there.
00:05:42
Speaker
Oh yeah, I remember when I was younger just clucking. I was like, yay, I got a one! It's like being in the gaming casino, like, come on, lucky!
00:05:55
Speaker
And then just ending the game right away. Oh, good. Yeah, I could never get into Mind Sweeper or Mind Sweeper, sorry. What was the other game? There was that pinball one as well. Do you remember that? Oh, Windows pinball? Yeah, it was like the Space Cadet pinball or something. Oh, so good. So yeah, Green Shield and Bronx bringing up the self-deprecation humor there about calling your character buttface.

First Gaming Experiences: Pong, Tetris, Sonic

00:06:20
Speaker
C4, saying first game I ever played was Pong on the Atari. That's a good choice. To be fair, that is a good game to kick off. I don't know if I've ever played it. I probably have on a remastered version of it. You know how you get remasters of old games like Tetris?
00:06:42
Speaker
you know that way and it's like it's all the flashing lights and things like that and it's like I just want to play Tetris and it's like you've got a combo and it's like that massive like Tetris coming down it's like no stop I just want to play Tetris so Marta saying I played the Nintendo gaming watch machines and then the Gameboy ones and Tetris of course oh no Tetris there you go popular for all the family
00:07:05
Speaker
And sorry, MTR's like gaming saying I immediately know what Sonic level he's talking about, it's got to be Mad Space. Yeah, just for the record, you're correct. Definitely. That was the one, I don't know if you guys remember it on the stream where I was like the Bat girl and I was like flying around space trying to find the dam.
00:07:25
Speaker
It took about like 11 or 12 minutes, which I'm ashamed to say because all the other levels I got through in a relatively decent time and just that one was just, nah, it wasn't good.

Family Gaming Memories

00:07:39
Speaker
Pew saying Maple Stony Hands Down was my major introduction to online multiplayer.
00:07:45
Speaker
I don't actually think I've heard about one of you, guys. No, ring the bell for me. That's still quite good, though. Sorry, just a couple more. August Rush saying, hey, how's your day going? Yeah, pretty well. Do you guys, your day is going well as well? Yeah, I can talk about Medal of Honor. People let me willingly talk about Medal of Honor for a while, so best day ever. That's true.
00:08:09
Speaker
Okay, and just like final comments to wrap up. So, Blowfishman in his chat hello saying the whole Mortal Kombat trilogy to which Green Childers replied I definitely wasn't allowed Mortal Kombat games as a kid. Yeah, I would not have been allowed that either. Did you ever- I got one in the- I got one in the Gameboy.
00:08:27
Speaker
um there was a video on that but there was one on the Gameboy um same Gameboy colour of Gameboy Advance I can remember having it but not any detail about it um apart from it was a pain in the arse I don't know how to do these fatalities I'm gonna look that up right now yeah go for it I don't know if I don't know where that comes into the trilogy but yeah I had that I tried to avoid talking about fighting games on this because I kind of like loved fighting games I don't play them anymore but fighting games
00:08:56
Speaker
So, following up from what Profish is saying, now thinking back to my dad, Loki, enjoyed the Mortal Kombat games, that's probably why I let it slide for him playing it. I don't know, for your family, did you guys play a lot of these games with them, as a shared experience, the games you listed off earlier?
00:09:22
Speaker
None of the ones I list, well actually no affairs, my parents would watch me play Lego Lab. Typical kind of work together. Not for like Medal of Honor, but I played through the whole of the original Halo with my mum in the WAP. It should be pretty good, isn't it? That's another one that's got a fond space in my heart, but I feel like I've talked about that one. Just to vary it out.
00:09:42
Speaker
Yeah, next week's episode is just going to be totally dedicated to that medal of honour. Yes! Don't tempt me! You'll be writing up the... You know I'll do it! You'll be writing up the plan next week, just like... And my favourite moment was... I'm taking over!
00:10:03
Speaker
that like in terms of like me watching as I said before like the very beginning with racing games like Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing those were the kind of games we played like in terms of co-op but for Pokemon I think there was too much of an age gap like between me and my brothers with that because Anka was like the perfect age or we were like the perfect age to like start getting into but by the time like they were like in high school and things and it just wouldn't have not Pokemon anyway so that was like
00:10:32
Speaker
That was like me grabbing my Gameboy and going out into the playground like, friend. Friend.
00:10:38
Speaker
But yeah, any for you, Craig, sorry. No, not really. I didn't really, like, usually games. I kind of played, like, RPGs, so I didn't really play with anyone, really. It wasn't really until a bit older that when I moved in with my flatmate for union and moved in later with my wife, I started actually playing games with other people, to be honest, like, and actually playing co-op games together. Those memories are really special to me, getting to know those as a bit as an adult, get to play different games, like, Overcooked and not falling out with everyone. That's great. And those memories are really special to me.

Co-op Gaming: Solo vs Shared Experiences

00:11:07
Speaker
Yeah not as a kid but going there is an adult playing co-op games. Yeah actually just like one kind of last question before we wrap up. Would you say like now you do focus more or you kind of gravitate towards co-op games more nowadays than you would as a kid?
00:11:23
Speaker
I think it's still a mix. I think I've still got that duality. I think I've still got, when I have time, I like to get into my RPGs. So thank you, 2020, for that. But for me, usually it's dropping from an hour and drop back out kind of stuff. But I love the socializing aspect of games. I think that's something in getting to do stuff like this for yourself is good as well. Even though it's not in games, but it's talking about games as well. But yeah, I do love co-op. And for that kind of reason, I just get to hang out with people.
00:11:51
Speaker
No, definitely. Same for me. Sometimes you do just want a game that you just delve into yourself and it's kind of your own experience and you kind of want to shut yourself off and just get really invested in it. But as well, one of the big draws and charms of gaming is the fact that you can share it with others. So yeah, exactly the same. Sometimes you just want to
00:12:14
Speaker
have a shared experience and think gaming is one of the best things for that. So yeah, I'm exactly saying, you want a bit of duality, you want a bit of both. Yeah. Actually Matt, I think that's quite a good thing about streaming as well, that you can like go into a single player game, but because you've got so many people watching you that they can also join in. Yeah. So I don't know, I suppose it's like the next, I don't want to be like dramatic and be like, it's the next digital step in couch co-op.
00:12:41
Speaker
You know, like just saying, yes, you can sit and watch, but you can't play. Yeah, my turn you die.
00:12:54
Speaker
I'm fine, let me send it through post.

Podcast Promotion: Be It and Chill

00:12:59
Speaker
But yeah, once again, thank you guys so much for joining me tonight. Thanks so much for having me. Love fun. Yeah, it was great. Cheers. Oh, thank you. And Craig, someone told me that you have a podcast.
00:13:20
Speaker
Yeah, where can we find this amazing podcast of yours called Be It and Chill? So I am the co-host of Be It and Chill podcast along with my good friend Jan.
00:13:29
Speaker
You can find that on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, at Bead and Chill Pod. We come out every Monday at 2pm. Recently we have done episodes on lots of different games. We've done God of War, we did one with Satsunami about the PlayStation 1. But we also like to talk about all sorts of different things. So we spoke about, this week we spoke about the Star Wars Holiday Specials, the original and the new LEGO one.
00:13:53
Speaker
We spoke about Dungeons and Dragons and we spoke about movies and just really, we just have a good laugh and it's good fun. So yeah, please check us out. Give us a like. All the numbers help on social media. So even if you don't listen to us, just even just a follow. Or you can check me out on Instagram at Craig Ali Martin if you want to follow more of me specifically. But my pictures are mainly be of food and working out. So if you like those three things, that's it. That's where to go. Probably not at the same time.
00:14:22
Speaker
Yeah, same time. That's what makes my content special. Yeah, speedrun, yeah. But yeah, no. I have to admit though, like, not to kind of beef it up. I'm gonna beef it up anyway. Yeah, so I have to admit, I listened to your The Beauty and the Child podcast episode on the holiday special.
00:14:42
Speaker
I was laughing, I was like setting up my tree in the background while listening to it and I was laughing, I was honestly bent over laughing like several times it was just, it's a really good episode so yeah if you guys are into Star Wars and things like that seriously go check out it's so funny and it's really good to see like your guys exp- or your thoughts like on that episode no it's a good Christmas episode I have to say so yeah
00:15:09
Speaker
Is there any other closing comments you guys would like to make? Play Medal of Honor. Don't let it die. What is it the same Rogue One again where he's like, save the dream? Keep the dream alive. Keep the dream alive. It's just you and the cape and the cave. It's me and Steven Spielberg just playing the old Medal of Honors.
00:15:37
Speaker
Oh my god. That'd be amazing. Honestly, I'm going to need

Loyalty to Game Franchises

00:15:41
Speaker
to go back and play. I think the only one I've got is like the modern version. It's like the... I think it's like the 2010 one or something? Yeah, they did the reboot. Yeah, yeah. I think it's the reboot I've got, so I'll really need to like... What? No, I'm getting you for Christmas now, Satsu. That is true. What? Just the whole collection? The whole collection. The whole jibang. But I can't play this. My Xbox is broken. As you just see me throw it out the window.
00:16:06
Speaker
I was going to say, is there any closing comments you want to make Craig? Is there any franchises you want to speak up on that at all? If you can't be more than safe in Medal of Honor, at least go buy Sexy Brutal or Hollow Knight. That would make that your purchase. That is a good point. Yeah, definitely.
00:16:24
Speaker
I wonder if they're on Game Pass actually, which is something I always say, like at the end of these podcasts I always go, that's a great game, I wonder if it's on Game Pass and then I never follow up. So I'm going to definitely need to follow up on that. I was thinking of if there's any franchises that I would vouch for, but considering the way Banjo Kazooie went with like, we have third game, I think it's safe to say you can take them out all day lifestyle into the back garden.
00:16:54
Speaker
like as i said see the first game great second game haven't played it but i've got it so i need to play it like on stream or just alone third game is just like a completely different game altogether and trust me i will like probably rant about this in a separate chance tsunami but it is genuinely like that depressing moment where you're just watching your
00:17:16
Speaker
You know, it's like you're watching your favourite or one of your old favourite franchises just slowly decaying to something different. Green Shield sign alone in a corner. So, yeah, on that note with me trash-talking Banjo-Kazooie, I'm kidding. I do love it really. It's tough love.
00:17:37
Speaker
more tough than love so yeah thank you guys once again and thank you all in the chat for coming and listening to our childhood experiences with gaming much appreciated as always stay safe stay awesome and most importantly stay hydrated bye guys bye
