Introduction to Season Three

00:00:07
Speaker
Welcome to season three of Based on a Book podcast. If you don't already know, we are a book club podcast that reads the book and breaks down and compares their adaptations. I'm Carrie, romance book obsessed.
00:00:19
Speaker
I fall in love. I'm sorry. Buzz is hacking. And take two. Welcome season three of Based on a Book podcast.
00:00:31
Speaker
If you don't already know, we are a book club podcast that reads the book and breaks down and compares their adaptations. I'm Carrie, romance book obsessed. I fall in love five times a week, and none of them know I exist.
00:00:46
Speaker
I'm Lindsay, and I bring the cats and the spooky year-round. And I'm k Crystal. I don't know who altered the timeline, but when I find them, we've got beef.

Podcast Structure for 2025

00:00:58
Speaker
So we've had such a great year so far in 2025. We're pretty new to this, so it looks like our seasons are being broken up where we are splitting them between first half and the second half of the year because that's what works for us, giving us a month break in between. get to read a little bit extra outside of the podcast as well.
00:01:19
Speaker
So I think we should just start this episode with a little mid-year reading check-in.

Carrie's Reading Goals and Audiobooks

00:01:28
Speaker
So how do both of you feel about your reading year so far?
00:01:32
Speaker
I mean, I've I set my personal goal for 50 books this year, knowing full well that most of them would be eaten up by this podcast.
00:01:44
Speaker
But I I've actually already hit my goal because I have been listening to like massive amounts of audio books. Audio books are the best. Honestly, they're like keeping me like pushing me through my reading goals.
00:01:59
Speaker
Well, there's so much i feel like in my life that I do that's kind of mindless. you know what i mean? Like doing the dishes, doing the laundry, cleaning the house, driving through town to run errands. And now I can use that time to do something that I

Library Shoutout: Access to Audiobooks

00:02:14
Speaker
enjoy too. And it makes me start to look forward to doing the laundry, doing the dishes, running over my errands. You know what i mean?
00:02:21
Speaker
So I like that. And um because of that, because of my awesome library, shout out to mclib.com, the McCracken County Library. Love you guys. They're on Libby and Hoopla and I can get a ton of that stuff for free through my local library.
00:02:37
Speaker
so Yeah.

Graphic Audio Experience

00:02:38
Speaker
Lindsay, have you been reading any audio books lately? Yeah. I did do a reread of the ACOTAR series and I did the graphic audio for those.
00:02:50
Speaker
And that was amazing. That was such a fun experience. Really? I was going to say, do you like fully recommend it? Cause I, whenever I first read, ACOTAR, I did the like original audio, and that that audio is like super special to me.
00:03:07
Speaker
So I remember trying the graphic audio, and i was like, ugh, this is not like my characters. like It just freaked me out a little bit, so I was curious if I should try that again. Because I did do the graphic audio for Fourth Wing, and I loved it. I thought it was incredible.
00:03:23
Speaker
So I was like, maybe i need to try that again. i have no point of reference for the original audio, so I'm not sure what the voices sounded like. And I'll admit, when I would hear Rhysand in the graphic audio, my my first thought was, wait a minute, that's not my Rhysand.
00:03:43
Speaker
But the voice did grow on me, so it it wasn't it wasn't too bad. Yeah. I remember there was a big thing going on when the graphic audios first came out where it was the sound of the winnowing That everyone was like cracking up about because it was like very like cheesy. I never thought about that.
00:04:05
Speaker
now I kind of, that makes that alone makes me want to go find it. Yeah, it was like doo-doo or something like that. i never well Since you've said it, yeah, I can hear it in my head. and Yeah.
00:04:16
Speaker
Yeah, people were like kind of weirded out about the winnowing sound and they were like, what is this? didn't think that it would make a sound. Yeah, like a whooshing sound, maybe. Maybe.
00:04:29
Speaker
yeah something like that. I feel like with graphic audios, like, they're weird at first, but then you kind of, like, you get used to it. You have to get used to it. Also, I just, I can't imagine listening to a graphic audio for, like, the first time as a first-time Right.
00:04:43
Speaker
Right. i i would I think I would struggle a little bit reading a story for the first time as a graphic audio because I would be so distracted by everything going on right on the outside. i think a reread is a good one.
00:04:57
Speaker
They're doing Throne Glass. Yes, in August. Yeah, as a graphic audio. don't know. Which is really, really I don't know. I love that story so much. I'm afraid that it won't live up to...
00:05:12
Speaker
where that lives in my heart. You know what i mean? that's That whole story, that whole series is so special to me. i i would be afraid to mess it up. Like, honestly, even if they adapt it for, you know, television show or something, I don't know that I would want to watch it because I would be so afraid that it wouldn't be the story that I love.
00:05:33
Speaker
Yeah, i I feel the same way, honestly. i really struggle when people talk about making it into whether it's a TV series or a movie.
00:05:45
Speaker
I mean, I'm okay. I know Fourth Wing right now is being talked about getting made into, i think, a TV series. I don't think it's being made into a movie

Adapting Books into Movies/TV Shows

00:05:54
Speaker
anymore. I believe Amazon is picking up. I think so that's that yeah which I don't mind that. I think that could be interesting, especially after seeing a Wheel of Time. i think that could be good.
00:06:08
Speaker
But like don't start it if you're not going to finish it, okay? Right. Or I'm going to be really upset. But i don't know. Actar is just so incredibly special.
00:06:19
Speaker
And I imagine like there's a lot of pressure. I almost feel like the reason why they haven't made it into anything and put it on screen is because there's so much pressure. Oh, I'm sure. On that series to be on screen.
00:06:33
Speaker
I almost feel like the only way to like make it good is almost to make it animated. Yeah. I get that. Like, I don't know. i i can't imagine it being real life people and it living up to. Being like super hokey. real Yeah, because sometimes that.
00:06:59
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. It's the wings. The wings. I just can't imagine. I can't imagine it on real people. So I'm just like, it's got to be animated or something.

Reading Highlights of the Year

00:07:09
Speaker
But all right, let's get into our mid year reading check in. I came up with a couple of questions.
00:07:14
Speaker
Some of these actually found on TikTok. This is a tag trending on TikTok. I don't know who the original creator is, but I also added in a couple of my own little questions in here. First question, best book that you've read so far in 2025? Let's start with Lindsay.
00:07:35
Speaker
ah So the best book that I've read so far, if I'm going with a podcast book just because it was the most recent of my best reads, would be Hunger Games.
00:07:47
Speaker
hu And I know it was a reread for me, so it was kind of hard for me to say that one, but I feel like my best reads have all been rereads this year. Yeah. Yeah. I get that. Going with a personal read, A Court of Wings and Ruin, the graphic audio. but Yeah.
00:08:03
Speaker
Yeah. Or Clown in a Cornfield. I liked that one, too. Really? that Yeah. You'd say that's, like, one of your best? Oh, that's cool. It was unexpected. Yeah. You think art A Court of Wings and Ruin over Court Acomath? Acomath?
00:08:19
Speaker
Acomath Acomath? Acomath Acomath? Acomath Acomath Acomath Acom Acomath Acomath Obviously, I listened to it before Wings and Ruin. Just Wings of rule wings and that was my last graphic audio.
00:08:33
Speaker
so But technically, that was also a five star for me. They're both five stars. Yeah. ah There's always like a controversy over which one's better, like ACMAF or ACWAR. Yeah.
00:08:47
Speaker
I will say war made me sob out loud uncontrollably when I listened to the graphic graphic audio. So that's why I said war. Interesting. Okay. That's good to know.
00:09:02
Speaker
What about you, Crystal? i well, like for the podcast, wild robots still like, you know, that was my like six star God tier level.
00:09:13
Speaker
That's a book that I'm going to reread and hopefully my children will read and their children will read and their children will read. i just love that. For a personal read, ah Fourth Wing, actually. I had never read it until this year.
00:09:25
Speaker
Oh, yeah. I forgot you read that in 2025. I read those two in prep for Onyx Storm coming out. I really enjoyed it. Fourth Wing was really freaking good. it was It got me excited about another fantasy series. you know and Whenever I'm a huge fantasy reader to begin with,
00:09:43
Speaker
if There's dragons even better. and ah so I was excited to read it. And like, they're so hit or miss because there's tons and tons and tons of dragon stories out there.
00:09:54
Speaker
And none of them are like, well, I'm sure some are bad, but for the most part, they're not like awful. as long as you got a dragon in there, it's at least worth a read usually. But fourth wing is got me excited about a whole series again. And I am, I am very excited.
00:10:10
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, I mean, Fourth Wing is super special to my heart. We got to get Lindsay on it now. That's my next big series. Yeah, even though I haven't read the third one. I'll get there eventually. It's fine. It's fine.
00:10:24
Speaker
I'm saying nothing.
00:10:28
Speaker
The best book I've read so far, 2025. twenty twenty five this is so random. I didn't really include any podcast books in here because I feel like I've just talked about these to death. Right.
00:10:38
Speaker
I think it would just be Hunger Games because that I'm like, That reread was just top tier for me. But this is such a random book and you guys are going to laugh.
00:10:50
Speaker
Lingus by Mariana Zapata, which is actually Mariana Zapata's like probably least, I i want to say least popular book, I believe. But it's about a Girl that goes to a sex worker convention because her friends are also sex workers and meet someone there that is also a sex worker and they become really great friends and develop a really good relationship.
00:11:32
Speaker
And it's just hilarious. It's really funny.
00:11:37
Speaker
It's a friends to lovers, which usually I do not like a friends to lovers, but it's just, it's a really, really good book. It took me by surprise. And that was like a six star read for me.
00:11:49
Speaker
It's like 500 page, like contemporary romance book. Or I think it's actually a little shorter than that. Cause I'm thinking Mariana Zapata cause she always has 500 page books that are like slow burns. Like that's how much she's known for, but this might be a, one of her shorter ones, but yeah.
00:12:06
Speaker
It was so good. and i always think about that book and that it's like one of my favorite books of 2025 that I've read so far. So next one is last five star read.
00:12:18
Speaker
So we'll go in the same order. Lindsay, what's your last five star read?

Five-Star Reads Discussion

00:12:22
Speaker
My last five star read was Hunger Games. Yeah, Hunger Games. Hunger Games. yeah Yeah, true. We all agreed on that one. Yeah. I think the one before that, my last, the five-star read before that was A Man Called Uwe by Frederick Bachman.
00:12:40
Speaker
That book, that had me sobbing. I've seen the movie. It's, I did not read the book. Yeah. and yeah Yeah. i was sobbing.
00:12:50
Speaker
The book, I feel like I cried more during the book than I did the movie. Yeah. Yeah, see, that makes me not want to read the book. Yeah, it's it hurt. It hurt me.
00:13:02
Speaker
I was struggling with that one. A book you just finished. Lindsay? So not podcast. It would be Midnight Sun.
00:13:13
Speaker
I finally finished it. Oh. what What are your thoughts on Midnight Sun? It should not have been the 660 pages that it was. yeah, that one's long. With the friggin...
00:13:26
Speaker
Type 10 font. Like this big. No. It was good. and Yeah. remember when that was like online. Like you could just read. you It wasn't like the full book. But it was like couple chapters or something. That was online. That's why it took her years to finish it.
00:13:47
Speaker
What about you Crystal? ah You guys might not believe this. But I just finished reading. ah Janet Yvonnevich 2 for the Dough. Oh, interesting. Okay. What are the vibes?
00:14:01
Speaker
I really had to know after we read One for the Money, like, does this get better? Why is this series so well loved? Yeah.
00:14:15
Speaker
i like At this point, I feel like I'm invested. i read two. I should read the third. But also, I don't want to. it is It's still the same like very super cheesy bad stereotypes of all the different character tropes. And it's just not...
00:14:33
Speaker
it's just not I don't know. It doesn't even hit the mark for a mystery for me. Because I i see it all coming so far ahead that the like twist isn't very twisty. it just yeah But i am I am glad that I read it though because now I can say for sure that I don't get it.
00:14:54
Speaker
There you go. Maybe I'll read one of the 20 something books and just to see like how much has changed between when these were first written in the late 90s to now. like Has Stephanie Plum changed?
00:15:10
Speaker
i like i I might try to find that out. Because I'm imagining that they can be read as standalones. I don't know. I feel like because there is a lot of like references in the second one to the first one.
00:15:24
Speaker
But I also feel like I didn't need those references to make sense of the of the plot. So maybe. We'll see. yeah I'll find out. A book I just finished was actually a Dungeons and Dragons book.
00:15:38
Speaker
Oh. Because it was for, it was like a Forgotten Realms book for, i do a family book club with my parents and sister and we take turns selecting the book.
00:15:52
Speaker
And my dad, I was going to say, this is your dad's pick. Yeah, this is dad's pick. um He picked a Dungeons and Dragons book. It's the Fallbacks, Bound for Ruin. And I believe it's written by the author who also wrote like for the Dungeons and Dragons movie. Have you ever seen that movie? I have.
00:16:11
Speaker
Yeah. It's actually really good. It's fun. It's fun. I liked it. It's actually very funny. has a lot of like well-known actors in it.
00:16:21
Speaker
the And it kind of has that similar vibe as that movie. It's very like, The humor is very similar. They're like on like a quest together, of this like group of misfits kind of situation.
00:16:42
Speaker
was okay. It felt very young, and it I don't think it was supposed to feel very young, but it felt that way. But yeah, it was a family book club book. We all take turns picking one, and that was his, and that was really funny.
00:16:58
Speaker
That's cute. Book you are currently reading? lindsey book i am currently reading is lights out yes we're gonna talk after this we're gonna talk we gotta get i gotta know where you are and carrie get caught up i'm on chapter 17 chapter 17 chapter seventeen Oh, that's far. It's like 57% through the book. Okay, what are you thinking? What are the vibes? How do you like it?
00:17:27
Speaker
I was keeping my expectations in check because I wasn't sure what to expect. h And I'm enjoying it. You didn't expect that, did you?
00:17:38
Speaker
Nope. There's one thing I did expect because I think I saw a TikTok on it and it was really funny. won't say anything. But you're enjoying it. I am enjoying it. Okay, good. Good. Crystal's read it.
00:17:50
Speaker
It's enjoyable. It's an enjoyable read. Okay. I still got to read it. I still have to read it. All right, Crystal, what are you currently reading? This is How We Lose the Time War. It's by two authors that I can't freaking remember.
00:18:02
Speaker
And I feel really bad because it's amazing so far, but it's kind of futuristic to um narrators, Red and Blue, who are both kind of like pruning timelines type thing. If anybody watched the Loki series, the like it's kind of like that, kind of like the TVA pruning timelines, but they work for two different agencies and they have two different goals in mind.
00:18:28
Speaker
And so they're technically enemies, But obviously having like questioning the motives of their agencies. And so it's it's really interesting. There's a love story involved. It is written in such a way that I have to really sit and pay attention. This is not an audiobook for me. This is a sit and read and focus. And so far it's really beautiful. And I have a feeling it's going to break my heart.
00:18:56
Speaker
So wish me luck. Good luck. I love books that like make me sob. Yep. Honestly, i really do. Because if it's making me feel something, anything, like that's a good book to me. Even though i have to like mentally prepare myself going into it.
00:19:17
Speaker
i still love a book that makes me feel a lot. I am reading How to Kill a Rockstar by Tiffany. i don't want to mispronounce this, but I'm going to try really hard not to.
00:19:30
Speaker
d bartolo and i'm also reading because i like to read multiple books at once because i'm a mood reader my temptation by tl swan i don't like this book my temptation by tl swan i'm not liking this book at all oh i literally tl swan's like can be a ah hit or miss for me like something about her books it wrote it's spicy romance and And something about her books, they're kind of long, but they'll be super fast-paced. I love a romance book that has mostly like dialogue in Character-driven, lots of dialogue, lots of drama. I need the drama because like I don't care about you know we're happy and we're having a great time.
00:20:17
Speaker
I want drama. you know That's going to keep it pushing. Yeah. yeah So that's why I kind of gravitate towards T.L. Swan a lot. But like this guy is a jerk. I don't want to read about this guy anymore.
00:20:29
Speaker
But like, you know, you're so far into the book. You can't stop. And you're just like, i got to finish this. I got to complete this at this point. Usually I'm a DNF girl.
00:20:40
Speaker
You know, I really am. I'm a DNF girl. But it like got to a point where it's like you're too far gone now. You're too far gone and you got to wrap it up. I feel that now.
00:20:50
Speaker
and And this is my audio book and I'm trying to hurry up and finish it so I can read Lights Out with both of you. Oh, it's driving me crazy. So, oh, like go ahead. This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El Motar and Max Gladstone. I hope I pronounced that right, Amal.
00:21:10
Speaker
Okay.
00:21:12
Speaker
A book that did not meet your expectations. Lindsay? This isn't to say that the book wasn't good. Mm-hmm. This is just to say that it was not what I was expecting.
00:21:25
Speaker
Tinder is the flesh. Okay. I knew it was dark. I did not know it was that dark. I told you. i told you. She did warn you. She warned you so well that even I knew i ain't reading that book.
00:21:42
Speaker
I warned everyone. It's true. It's true. And I don't regret reading it. I'm glad that I read it. I don't regret not reading it. Based on what y'all have said, that is not the book for Crystal. No.
00:21:55
Speaker
Not at all. Not the book for Crystal. No. Definitely not. Usually I'm like, oh yeah, you should read it. Just to get your reaction. Nope. Don't read this one. Yeah. You love to torture me. So if you're over here like, no, Crystal doesn't need to read that.
00:22:09
Speaker
i'm I'm going to believe you. All right. What about you, Crystal? Onyx Storm. Sorry, Rebecca Yaros. I'm not going to... Again, this is kind of... This is not to say it was a bad book.
00:22:21
Speaker
But after like the high of Fourth Wing, it kind of fell a little flat. Now, I will say it did set us up. I think the next book should be a real banger.
00:22:35
Speaker
At least... I'm hoping so. I think that's the common opinion amongst a lot of readers for Onyx Storm. so It's not bad. I'm not sitting here saying it's bad. It just it didn't live up to the others.
00:22:50
Speaker
huh But again, it's like it's the third book, so I feel like it's we got we got a ways to go here still. Yeah. The third book?
00:23:01
Speaker
yeah I don't even remember what the second one's called because I just read them so fast. and Iron, Iron Flame. There you go, Iron Flame. Iron Flame, yeah. yeah ah A book that did not meet my expectations was Pestilence by Laura Thalassa.
00:23:18
Speaker
This series is so crazy hyped. It's spicy, romance, uh...
00:23:29
Speaker
genre and especially in like fantasy romance or like this is like your introduction to it and all that stuff and you know I was like I've read a lot of fantasy romance I was like oh this is like what I feel like everybody's read this book so I wanted to go try it out and it's like a longer series and people love the other books in the series and I was really hoping that it was going to grasp me because I'm like looking for a series to binge like i feel very
00:23:58
Speaker
picky when it comes to fantasy romance series because like to get invested, i need like very particular things to happen. And I hate that about myself. Like I i don't want to be picky.
00:24:10
Speaker
You know, I want to just get invested and just like go with the flow, but I'm not a go with the flow girly. Like I need particular things that keep me interested in this one just like did not meet my expectations at all. Unfortunately, a book that exceeded your expectations.
00:24:27
Speaker
lindsey why y'all you keep laughing at everyone you're cracking me up i'm not saying that this book exceeded my expectations because it is a great book it exceeded my expectations because i had really low expectations makes sense makes sense 50 shades of gray Okay.
00:24:50
Speaker
Okay. i love that for you. I had such low expectations. I'm not going to lie. And yeah, I mean, it's not the the best book ever written, but it was okay.
00:25:02
Speaker
I enjoyed it. Yeah. It's a fun read if nothing else. h

Books That Exceeded Expectations

00:25:09
Speaker
All right. What about you, Crystal? Oh, I don't know. i don't. eight
00:25:15
Speaker
Ice Planet Barbarians. Yeah.
00:25:20
Speaker
Because legitimately, I had very low expectations. I was like, oh, oh okay. It's a good book. alien Alien romance, you know. There's some good detail in that whole series like as it continues.
00:25:35
Speaker
And I haven't read any others in the series yet, but it is something that I probably will do. It was good enough that I was like, okay, I'm actually invested in this story now. Alien romance is underrated.
00:25:49
Speaker
Again, this is not like an amazing five-star book or anything like that, similar to Fifty Shades of Grey. it's it was just a really enjoyable read and I didn't expect it to be. I read it out of curiosity. i read Because, you know, everybody loves i knows I love space.
00:26:04
Speaker
And somebody was like, well, haven't you read any alien romance? And I was like, that just sounds bad. But it's shockingly not. Yeah. Yeah. I like that one, too.
00:26:16
Speaker
What about you, Carrie? One that i exceeded my expectations was The Wicked Deep by Earnshaw. That one, I've had that on my shelf for a while.
00:26:28
Speaker
And that one was incredible. So, so good. Very atmospheric. Even some romance in there. Some unrequited romance. Really good for practical magic girls that are, you know, readers that really like practical magic.
00:26:44
Speaker
telling you. That's a good one. I saw your review of it it and I was curious. I think you both would really like that one.

Anticipated Books and Adaptations for 2025

00:26:52
Speaker
A book you can't wait to start reading. Lindsay?
00:26:55
Speaker
Lindsay? Fourth wing. Yeah. Get on it. Let's go. get on that. Because I'm telling you're going to love it. And I'm already planning. As soon as I finish reading it, doing graphic audio, I'm listening to it. Yes.
00:27:11
Speaker
Absolutely. So I'm really excited for that. All right, Crystal, what about you? ah So I'm not going to lie. Aside from our podcast stuff, I don't plan on reading much for the next couple of months.
00:27:24
Speaker
because Trek Strange New Worlds new season starts next week. And so I will be binging the first couple of seasons heading into this.

My best friend and I always watch it together, so I will be doing that. But if i have the time um between watching a crap ton of Star Trek, I will probably be reading Remarkably Bright Creatures, which has been on my TBR for a very long time.
00:27:50
Speaker
And I really, really, really want want to get to that one. um huh That one looks good. I really want to read Vicious by V.E. Schwab. I hear really good things about that one. That's been on my TBR for a while. i have it on my TBR cart now because I'm like, all right, movie here Make this a priority.
00:28:09
Speaker
i really want to get to that one because I hear really good things about it. I've only read Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by that author. So I really want to try something else by her and See if I like it.
00:28:23
Speaker
i have so many other books by them. So I want to try something else. All right. So now that we're on the topic of stuff, we can't wait to read and watch.
00:28:36
Speaker
Let's talk about adaptations. We're looking forward to coming on 2025. So I've got a few that I'm like excited about. i got the running man.
00:28:47
Speaker
By Stephen King. I'm so excited about that. Just saw the trailer for it. Yes, I am so excited for that. As Glenn Powell, Katie O'Brien, it's releasing November 7th. I think it's going to be a theater release.
00:29:00
Speaker
Yes. A man joins a game show where contestants are allowed to go anywhere in the world and are pursued by hunters hired to kill them.
00:29:12
Speaker
And i mean, looking at that trailer, it looks crazy. I've never read the book. I'm excited to read the book. go see the movie. That one looks really good. The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware.
00:29:24
Speaker
We don't have an exact release date yet. We have a fall in 2025 on Netflix um starring Keira Knightley. Travel writer stumbles upon a gruesome secret while traveling aboard luxury cruise ship.
00:29:39
Speaker
So that looks super interesting. I have read two Ruth Wears. I loved one. Thought another one was okay. So I think i I read Turn of the Key. Lindsay, did you read Turn the Key?
00:29:50
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. yeah, we did. We're a little book club. That was the book club book. Yeah. Yeah. i really liked that one. Did you like that one? bad. Yeah.
00:30:02
Speaker
I was like, this the best book.
00:30:06
Speaker
I'm dead. But outside of that stuff that's already out, I really want to watch forever. I haven't gotten to forever yet. I read the book. I still need to watch the show.
00:30:20
Speaker
we Were Liars, new show that came out on Prime. um I read the book like really, really long time ago. That's like when I would always be like, you got to read this book. you are But you know, when it's been so long, you've read the book. We're like, is this actually a good book?
00:30:36
Speaker
I don't even know anymore. You know, um I really want to see the murder bot series. Crystal, I feel like you're going to like that one. I and um It is in my queue. Yeah.
00:30:49
Speaker
Yeah. I feel like that one is like totally your style. Absolutely. But I am, ah have two episodes left. Black Dagger Brotherhood. You guys, I'm having the time of my life watching at Black Dagger Brotherhood.
00:31:03
Speaker
It is based off Dark Lover by J.R. Ward. It is a passion flicks only um show. you don't know what passion flicks is, it is like a streaming service that really does like romance, spicy romance adaptations.
00:31:19
Speaker
And I mean, the only way I can really describe it, which is probably not the best description, is like Hallmark movies, but make it spicy. but nope That's exactly what I was thinking. It really is. Like, it's so spicy, but it has the Hallmark vibes because they're using very similar like actors all the time and stuff. Kind of like how Hallmark movies kind of does.
00:31:40
Speaker
But it is actually so good. And it's like they use a lot of like independent authors or, you know, traditionally published romance authors. But it has been a really fun experience watching the show. And it's just like you're just like giggly the entire time. And it's just really fun.
00:31:59
Speaker
What about you guys? What do you have ah adaptations that you're looking forward to? Well, Wicked Part 2 coming out. Yeah. Yeah. That's going to be exciting.
00:32:11
Speaker
Yeah. And you've read the Wicked series, have you, Crystal? It's been a very long time, but yeah. Yeah. I've always wanted to read that one. What about you, Lindsay? I was also excited for The Running Man, especially because it's being adapted by Edgar Wright.
00:32:27
Speaker
And I love Edgar Wright. He did Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim. And then it's supposed to be a more faithful adaptation compared to the original with ah Arnold Schwarzenegger in it. He makes a cameo, at least in the trailer he does. Yeah.
00:32:46
Speaker
So I am, I'm really excited for that one. I'm also really excited for the Thursday Murder Club. Mm-hmm. Which is coming to Netflix in, think it's August August.
00:32:59
Speaker
That one has Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley, Celia Emery, and Helen Marion, and David Tennant, actually. And it's also, it's directed and co-written by Chris Columbus, who also directed Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Uh-oh.
00:33:24
Speaker
But the 2010 movie, not the TV series. So we'll see how that goes. Yeah, we'll see how that goes. But I'm really excited for that one. That one that story follows four golden-aged amateur detectives who habitually solve cold cases when suddenly they stumble into a real murder on their doorstep.
00:33:45
Speaker
And this adaptation is supposed to be really faithful to the story with a little bit of tweaks for runtime. So, yeah, I'm excited to see what they do.
00:33:56
Speaker
Okay, cool. That's cool. Anything else? Any other ones? I mean, Percy Jackson season two. but Yeah. Let's not forget that. excited about that.
00:34:07
Speaker
that I saw little, like, clips of it and, like, little images of different stuff. That's going to be a really, really cool one.
00:34:18
Speaker
And we have a lot of... new adaptations that are coming out in 2025 in our season three schedule. Sure do.
00:34:29
Speaker
Which is super exciting. So for August, we have our back to school theme. As you know, we love our themes. Honestly, the reason why we do our themes is helps us.
00:34:41
Speaker
We have so many adaptations to choose from. So many. and We have so much to choose from. It's honestly helps us got like guide us. For each month.
00:34:52
Speaker
We're like, all right, we can only narrow it down. Yeah, we got to narrow this down big time. So that's how these themes are helping us. So August is our back to school month. right. We got three titles coming for you in August.
00:35:07
Speaker
ah Lindsay, you want to talk about your title? Sure. Yeah. This one was an obvious choice for me. There's Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins. It's spooky.
00:35:19
Speaker
It's thrilling. And it's set in high school. There you go. All right, Crystal, what about you? i picked The Martian, which obviously is not set in school, but boy, you're going to learn something.
00:35:31
Speaker
but ah You know, I picked it because it we of course, have Project Hail Mary that's being adapted and that I'm really super excited about.
00:35:42
Speaker
um and The Martian is just another. It's the same author. It's, you know, kind of similar story. fight for survival type situation where we have to use what we know to get by. And and particularly Mark Watney, who is the only man on Mars, the first official ever Martian citizen ah who has to make a home and survive.
00:36:07
Speaker
And I'm really excited to go through all the science of that one with y'all. Yeah, I'm super excited. I'm excited. I'm excited. i'm excited I mean, I'll probably be messaging you and be like, help, help me.
00:36:21
Speaker
It's a really good audio book if that, you know. Yeah, I do hear that it a good audio. So that's probably the direction I'm going to go with that one. My pick for Back to School is My Oxford Year by Julia Whalen.
00:36:35
Speaker
Why'd you pick that one, Carrie? Set in college and a romance. All right. Easy peasy. There you go. And it is 2025 adaptation coming out in August.
00:36:48
Speaker
So it's going brand new adaptation. So that's super exciting. September, we've got our Stephen King month because it is Stephen King's. where If you haven't noticed, we've been avoiding Stephen King like the plague because we've got we were planning a whole month of Stephen King.
00:37:06
Speaker
And specifically, we have three brand new adaptations that we are covering in that month. We have The Life of Chuck, The Monkey, And a brand new theater release, which will be The Long Walk.
00:37:19
Speaker
October is going to be spooky month. November, we are continuing all of our series. So we're continuing The Golden Compass with the second book. We're continuing Fifty Shades of Grey with the second book.
00:37:32
Speaker
And heading back to the arena. Yeah, heading back to the arena with Catching Fire. We're so excited to get back to these series series. because we left on these cliffhangers freaking out and talking about it since in December. We are celebrating 250 years of Jane Austen because some of us are reading Pride and Prejudice for the first time and we're reading Pride and Prejudice in Zombies, which is going to be so much fun. i cannot freaking wait.
00:38:04
Speaker
ah So let's get into our question of the episode. If you could drop a one word hint for the October or any October episode. what would it be? Crystal, you go first.
00:38:16
Speaker
Welcome.
00:38:19
Speaker
Oh, okay. Lindsay?
00:38:26
Speaker
Terrifying.

Season Three Episode Wrap-up

00:38:31
Speaker
Is that October? Is that December? Which title are we talking about? Is it August? be Any of my titles, honestly. That's just the Lindsay word. Yeah, mine is games.
00:38:46
Speaker
What does that mean? We don't know. All right. That's a wrap on our first episode for season three. We're so glad to be back and even more excited for all the fun plans ahead. Thanks for kicking off the season with us. There's a lot more in store, so be sure to stick around.
