Hey everybody,

Podcast Introduction

00:00:35
Speaker
welcome to another episode of Predetermined, a Pro Wrestling Hangout. I'm your host, Garrett Callender, and with me is a man who discovered the V can be too deep, Chris Miggs. It's true, it's true, Garrett. It's really a V, sometimes it's like a baseball jersey. Sometimes it's not that buttoning, you gotta...
00:00:57
Speaker
I don't know when you guys can't see this because we're recording. We're recording video, but you are. This is just my voice here. I feel like this is a terrible intro where I'm just talking about something that none of the listeners will ever see. But yeah, I was wearing a shirt that looks kind of weird and I changed so that Garrett wouldn't feel uncomfortable for an hour and 20 minutes.
00:01:21
Speaker
I preferred it, but I want you to be comfortable. So what he was wearing, I guess, you said it was a baseball jersey? Like a button up? Yeah, it was an ECW baseball jersey.

Humor in Wardrobe Mishaps

00:01:32
Speaker
Well, it looked nice, but the way the camera cut him off, you know, there was no shirt underneath it. There was a bit of a V and it looked like he was wearing hospital scrubs. Like this guy was going to go in to do surgery. He was going to save a life after he makes you laugh for the next hour or so.
00:01:51
Speaker
And I just didn't want to lie to Garrett like that, um, because let me tell you something. The last thing you want me to be is your doctor. But aren't our podcasters, basically doctors, don't we save lives every day? Doesn't somebody think, should I not continue? And then think, but next week, what were they going to talk about? I'm predetermined. Like we are the thing that keeps people going.
00:02:18
Speaker
I like to think that our listeners are in just stronger positions in life. They are. I'm not. Why would they be? I assume like it's

Podcasters as Life Savers?

00:02:29
Speaker
like when I meet somebody, I assume we're about the same age just because that's a weird thing in my brain. I meet somebody. I'm like, you're a sad motherfucker, too. Like we are all sitting around sad, sad boys. I'm fine. You guys are said girls, you know.
00:02:44
Speaker
I was reading about the mental health of teenage girls recently. I don't know. I've got a daughter. I'm wildly worried about this. Will, will I be able to keep her spirits up by watching professional wrestling with her? We'll find out. And, you know, when he needs to figure that out, he throws on some medical scrubs, read some the Mayo Clinic journals. And, you know, he does his own research, folks. That's what I'm telling you.

Wrestling as Family Bonding

00:03:14
Speaker
I will say, I will say last night, uh, my daughter was in a little bit of a mood and I was like, trying to figure out like what to sort of like, get her like calm, like something we could get, like take about 15 minutes because she got ahead to have some dinner. And I was like, Hey, Maddie, watch an Aussie open match. And she's like, yes. We watched, we watched professional wrestling for a solid 15 minutes. She calmed down, ate some dinner. You know, it's powerful. It's powerful.
00:03:42
Speaker
But what specific match? Because I know some of us need like a moment of Zen. Like what's the Aussie Open match that's gonna calm us down? I don't know if it'll calm you down specifically. It's from an episode of

Zen Moments in Wrestling

00:03:54
Speaker
New Japan Strong last year. They did like a whole United Empire episode. And it was Aussie Open, Great Okan, and Aaron Honare against TMDK. So it was Jonah, Tito, and Nichols and Haste.
00:04:08
Speaker
It was just an enjoyable New Japan 8-man. Later on in that episode,

The Ultimate Wrestling Marathon

00:04:14
Speaker
there's a Will Osprey against Homicide match that I have not seen yet, but does really seem like something I would enjoy, so I'll probably go back to that at some point. I like that. Yeah, so is Homicide just a New Japan strong regular?
00:04:30
Speaker
Yeah, I think he wrestled, didn't he wrestle Filthy Tom at the showdown? He did. And I guess before we get into the matches, I just want to say me, Lowell, our buddy Lowell, our buddy Matt, our buddy Tag, everybody popped in and out at different points. You came in there towards the end, but Lowell and I watched seven hours of wrestling on Saturday night.
00:04:55
Speaker
And I had a certain point four screens going. I think Matt looked it up and said that over the span of seven hours, I watched 29 matches with 91 participants. I wanted to see what it felt like to be sitting in my own personal Buffalo Wild Wings, watching all the TV screen games.
00:05:16
Speaker
Um, so really this is going to be an exercise and how much did I retain Saturday night? Right.

Wrestling Memories Challenge

00:05:23
Speaker
Do you? Well, how about this Garrett? I named, I named one match you saw here, but can you name five other wrestling matches that you saw on Saturday night? Um, yeah. Oh, five is easy. Yeah. I can do five.
00:05:40
Speaker
Let's see, I could maybe even name five off that card, I bet. Well, how about this? Maybe the answer is we gotta rank him. What was... Let's start with, what was your number one match from the orgy of professional wrestling that you consumed? As I was taking it from all sides every end, like, you know, both sides, just two hands, using my feet.
00:06:10
Speaker
Do I need to talk about Filthy Tom real quick since we just brought that up or are we just going to go on? Is that number one? No, no, no, no, no. He's not even in the top 10. I mean, feel free to talk about Filthy Tom. I mean, then we can get to that. I mean, he did have a match. I just wanted to say it was like it was like New Japan had a GCW match. They took all the ropes off and just had a hardcore match. It was kind of weird.
00:06:31
Speaker
He removed the pants, he removed the shorts, had the little shorts on underneath, and then after it was over, removed it to reveal a third bear at the end. Clever. It's a great gimmick. I think it was just like a filthy rules match is what they called it. But if I had to rank things, there's going to be a wrestler that comes up probably throughout this episode and throughout the next

Spotlight on Becca

00:06:55
Speaker
until something else catches my attention in the history of this show. There is a lady wrestler named Becca. The E is a three, you know, so we're doing it like Megan, you know, that killer robot that, as the kids say, the killer robot that's serving
00:07:14
Speaker
Ooh. I know, I know. I don't feel like maybe I'm the guy to drop the C word on this show, or on any show, but the kids are saying- Feel free to bleep yourself there, Garrett. You know, I think the Real Housewives say it, so can't I? No, Garrett, you can't. God damn it. I can't do anything on this show. You're censoring me. This is what they're, you can't say anything anymore. Listen, the woke doctor over here,
00:07:45
Speaker
You watch out, Garrett, or you're gonna be doing podcasts in Poland with Marty's Curl soon. You're gonna be doing the official Kingwin Underground primetime wrestling podcast. What happened to Garrett? He seems to be doing a lot of international travel lately.
00:08:14
Speaker
But yeah, no, uh, Becca, I believe her, uh, Instagram handle, it says that she is the hyper pop sensation, which if you know me, big fan of hyper pop, like the, the Charlie XCX is the music like that. So if I have a lady wrestler who is also a hyper pop singer, which I saw, she has music. Oh, that's just the actual music. She has actual music. Is it good, Garrett?
00:08:41
Speaker
You know, sometimes you gotta hear something a couple times before. Let's just say right now the wrestling is what has grabbed, is what has captured my imagination. Well, in terms of genres where the songs are supposed to slowly grow on you, Hyper Pop is definitely one of those. They're supposed to be really things that sort of slowly get into you when you think about the words and you really process it. That's my understanding of how that's supposed to go, what their goal is, their aim is.
00:09:08
Speaker
Yeah, you're not wrong. You're not wrong. So she fought Tremont at the Angels of Death Tournament. It was a non-tournament match. It was, as far as I know, her first death match. And it was fans bring the weapons. So before anyone came out, there was a skewer board attached to the turnbuckle.
00:09:32
Speaker
And then I, you know, Tremont comes out and I'm not expecting Becca. I don't know who I was expecting, but it wasn't her. She comes out with an acoustic guitar, beautiful covered in thumb tacks, almost makes it look like a disco ball.
00:09:46
Speaker
I can't believe Jarrett didn't do that in GCW. He has to have at some point, right? Did he not ever? I don't think he did. He ditched, he ditched like a third of the way through that FE feud. I don't think there was ever a thumbtack guitar. I think that was, that was like the, that should have been the climax is the thumbtack guitar. That should have been the thing that happens at Hammerstein, but instead we just get regular match. Yes. Well, I'm pretty sure he just won, right? He won. Yes. That was a disappointing memory.

XFL and The Rock's Influence

00:10:19
Speaker
A lot of that show to me is a disappointing memory. The build to it, turning it on was all great memories. And then as the show progressed, it was like, this is getting more upsetting. But either way. Not a show that's gonna age well. Not a show that people are gonna go back to. No, it's truly like a WrestleMania one situation. I mean, it wasn't like WrestleMania one, like the disappointing one. One's not very good.
00:10:50
Speaker
It's interesting comparison. Cause I do think you could, it's somewhat similar, although there's not a GC, the world on GCW two this year. Not yet. Not yet. Um, one though, I mean, the thing about one is that they don't really take any wild swing. I mean, there's like the weird, like the Cindy Lauper Wendy Richter thing, but it's kind of. The thing about one is it's just kind of boring for the most part. Like you watch it. Is that the Aretha one?
00:11:17
Speaker
No, that's, I think that's three. I think three is Aretha. See, not even Aretha, WrestleMania one. Liberace. Holy shit. Yeah. Damn. I used to visit his grave once a year.
00:11:35
Speaker
because it became a Christmas tradition in LA. We had a cemetery not far from us that Ronnie James Dio was buried in.

New Japan Cup and Family Time

00:11:42
Speaker
So every Christmas I would go to Ronnie James Dio's grave and whisper a secret to him that I've never told anyone. And I'd wave at Liberace as I passed.
00:11:54
Speaker
Gotcha. You've got like famous people. I've got, I mean, Queens is like 30% graveyards, but it's, I don't think there's that many famous. It's not like you just wander around and find famous people. Although I did find one of my high school teachers accidentally in a graveyard once. Well, I mean, that's a happy accident. Did you say hi to them or did you just pass? Cause I, I said, I said a quick hi to the grave. I mean, I don't really, what does it mean to talk to a grave? You know?
00:12:21
Speaker
I mean, if you ask the Creed movies, Rocky shows up to read the newspaper to Adrian every day. And I thought that was a very sweet moment. Did you read the newspaper to your teacher? I did not. I don't know. Those scenes always make me kind of concerned for Rocky. Well, he had a lot of problems from the very beginning.
00:12:42
Speaker
Oh, sure. I mean, in the very first one, he's like, hey, you want to go on an ice skating date and then just like she ice skates while he walks next to her with no ice skates. That was a weird choice. Like Rocky was a fucked up guy. Oh, for sure. Don't don't show someone who hasn't seen the first Rocky movie any of those scenes and have them think it's going to be romantic.
00:13:06
Speaker
It's apparently, apparently if you haven't, if you didn't grow up going, oh, what a beautiful moment. Apparently it's repulsive now. That's what I've learned. Well, I think like, I mean, you know, it's an Academy Award nominated movie, but it definitely like is head trauma already in progress. Like before you've seen him be punched in the head, like he is a slap fighter through and through. Oh, that's a good point. You could really see Rocky being like a slap fighter.
00:13:32
Speaker
Which, this fucking slap fight show, man, I did catch up, I hadn't watched any of it, and I started, they, you're right, they've ruined slap fighting. I don't need to know about my people, like I said, I wanna judge a book by its cover and watch guys get slapped. This show, now I have to watch them live in a fucking house together? They're like, what if slap fighting were like real world? But they can't slap each other in the house.
00:13:59
Speaker
But they want to. They truly do. And somebody's already been fucking kicked. I hate it. I Googled. It's a very bad show. It's really terrible. Like, thanks Dana White for taking this from me and like making it so big that the government's going to take it away. It's not like here's the thing. It's not even it's look because feel free to judge slap fighting on its morality. I'm not going to argue with you.
00:14:23
Speaker
But it's really it's not even good trashy television. That's my problem with it. It's not even good teeth. I don't even want to keep watching. I'm not compelled to keep going. It's no it's no love is blind Brazil. It's truly a fast forward to see the slap in show.
00:14:42
Speaker
I want to let you know that I did Google famous people buried in Queens just so we could maybe before the next episode, you could go pay your respect and bring a chair, read a newspaper to Louis Armstrong. Perhaps. Makes sense. Dizzy Gillespie. Um. I think a famous composer is buried in Queens somewhere.
00:15:03
Speaker
I'll tell you, a lot of people are buried there and I have not heard of any of these names. I've been scrolling for a while and I haven't recognized a single person since Desi Gillespie. So. You are the borough is like it's again, it's like Queens is 30% cemeteries.
00:15:24
Speaker
Most of these people died either in the year, like 1910s or before. So they have, what are they doing? They're just occupying like prime real estate in New York City. Get the fuck out of here, boomers. Sound like a real real estate developer there, Garrett.
00:15:44
Speaker
If that were Nashville, they would have dug them up and put a tall skinny there and then made a made another poltergeist movie. Oh, Garak, give us 10 years. But, yeah, go say hi to the Louis and Desi. Yeah. OK, next match. Dark Church. I was back against Tremont. I was fucking awesome. Like, I mean, it was mostly Tremont taking a lot of the deathmatch stuff.
00:16:14
Speaker
but like the size difference and the way nobody sells like Matt Tremont. Like he truly might be like, this is gonna piss somebody off the way I'm about to phrase this. As far as his selling, he is the Dolph Ziggler of death match.
00:16:33
Speaker
Like him selling, getting choked. Okay. So she comes out at one point with a mace made out of stilettos covered in thumbtacks. Okay. And she's choking him with it and he's doing the thing where he's like, ah, like, you know, like his tongue, like he looks like Jabba the hot dine, like, ah. And as that's happening, like all I can think is like, he is selling this the way Dolph Ziggler would sell climbing a ladder and a money in the bank.
00:17:02
Speaker
I'm trying to imagine Matt Tremont with the Dolph Ziggler hair. It's really hard. I've been like working on it, but I can't quite. My brain can't really wrap around it.
00:17:15
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, even the best Photoshop artists in the world have tried to do this, and his head rejects it. The match was really, really fun. I don't know. That ended up being the most pleasantly surprising match of the evening. Didn't even know I was going to see it. That's your number one. Number one. If I watch anything.
00:17:37
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, close to, as far as the women's deathmatch tournament goes, I also really like Ziggy Haim. She was awesome, and that was her first deathmatch, which was in round one against Sawyer Wreck. So already, you know, I'm already having a good time. Shocker here, Garrett enjoying a Sawyer Wreck match. But it turns out if she has an opponent I also enjoy,
00:18:01
Speaker
Even better. And it was a barbed wire match. And she had never done a death match. She's wearing a shirt that says, follow your leader. And it's a picture of Hitler shooting himself in the head. So I'm like, oh, she is.
00:18:13
Speaker
She's coming. Okay. Throughout Sawyer Rec is just holding like a strand of barbed wire and whipping Ziggy and it keeps getting wrapped up in her hair. So it's just like a like Sawyer is a female deathmatch Indiana Jones. And I don't know if it was ever on purpose the way she lassoed this woman's head, but it looked fucked up. You know what? You know what deathmatch I want to see? I want to see Sawyer Rec against Ty of Valkyrie.
00:18:41
Speaker
Um, because I, I feel like the, the both of them, they just smile all the time, no matter what's happening, they're, they're smiling. And, um, I think the two of them just like, you know, laying into each other, but also just being like, just giving each other smiles. I feel like that would be delightful. It'd be like, huh. It's a, yeah, just, just happy, good time wrestling, even if there's a little blood. Yeah. Yeah. Do you think that Sawyer rec versus facts in an inner gender match would be something to see?
00:19:13
Speaker
Hm, that's an interesting question. Our dear co-host Jimmy Fax, who is currently at Arena Mexico, watching a AAA show, not on YouTube. I think he has to be thrilled about that. Eating some tacos and watching wrestling with his pals that aren't us. I think that what would be fun there is if Fax needs to,
00:19:41
Speaker
It's like Sawyer wreck that it's it's not a traditional wrestling match. It's Sawyer wreck defending the tacos. And so Fax needs to get to the tacos and Sawyer wreck can do anything. So Fax has to may have may have to take a shot from the light tubes to get to the tacos. Do you think that the inclusion of tacos
00:20:03
Speaker
will be motivation for him to get out of the match faster. Like a tacos on a pole match. Is that what we're doing? Kinda, kind of. And I think, you know, as I'm thinking about this, this really works. We should do this. We should pitch this to Lauderdale for all out weekend at the grand sports arena. Right. Because they got the tacos there. They got the ladies got the tacos. Ladies got the tacos. And so, yeah, it's it's.
00:20:29
Speaker
you get a discount on the tacos if you'll get hit with something by Sawyer Wreck on the way to the tacos. It's just war games, but it's facts and four tacos versus, like, Casey Kirk, Sawyer Wreck, Reena. Oh, man. Yeah, yeah. As you get a taco, try to give a Canadian destroyer.
00:20:58
Speaker
See, now that's more of a spring break spot than it is a war game spot. But, you know, so that was, I would say that was, that was probably number two, the Ziggy, the Ziggy Sawyer wreck match. Number three, I would probably go with another women's match, different show and hit you with Kyrie versus Sasha Banks and Mercedes Monet.
00:21:25
Speaker
How did, so how did Sasha slash Mercedes look? I mean, again, she didn't look great in the debut, but obviously now this time I'm assuming she was wearing wrestling boots. So that probably helped.
00:21:36
Speaker
Yeah, I guess her outfit confused me, but I guess it was a tribute to another Joshi wrestler, possibly, that I saw online. I don't know, that one I ended up watching, I think with just Matt. I think everybody else had tapped out at that point by the time that show was on, but it was also up against
00:21:59
Speaker
maybe the main event of the Tremont show. I'm trying to think what was in the four other squares as I was watching that. And we were kind of nervous for it because she sold out that arena and they put her on as the semi-main.
00:22:16
Speaker
So it's just like, does she still have it? Because I can't think of the last, I mean, we've definitely seen some Sasha Banks bangers. NXT, like, I feel like the matches between her and Bayley was the start of the women's revolution. Just like those insane matches they were doing on the takeovers or maybe even on regular TV, I don't really remember.
00:22:38
Speaker
I wanted that, and I didn't know if she still had that. And I wouldn't say that this is my favorite Sasha Banks or Mercedes match, but it
00:22:50
Speaker
Right out of the gate, I feel like she exceeded the expectations of like, is this going to suck? And it absolutely did not. I actually rewatched it a bit ago. Let me see, I pulled it up. I know this was the longest match on the card, even longer than the main event. Oh, wow. It was longer than Okada and Tanahashi. Because it was. Those guys were like Greg Valentine together. Like you don't get them warmed up for 25.
00:23:14
Speaker
Well, at this point, I don't think I would ever be mad. I don't know. I like Okada, I like Tanahashi. I would watch them wrestle forever. And I think that them doing it in the US again is just like, you know, this is a main event for this room.
00:23:29
Speaker
Like, it's a match we've seen a hundred fucking times, but like, this is the main event for America. They haven't gotten to see this live one time in Dallas. And I actually didn't even watch that match, to be honest, because it was like, I feel like I've seen that match. But Mercedes and Kyrie went almost 27 minutes. Okado and Tanahashi went 21. Oh, ok.
00:23:54
Speaker
but it ended up being a pretty hard-hitting match. They ended up fighting around the arena a bit, table spots, hard-hitting stuff, just like some good spots. I don't know. Overall, even watching it twice, I had a good time. Did you happen to see what Meltzer rated it?
00:24:10
Speaker
I don't think that issue's come out yet. I think he'll rate it on Friday. Okay. I am curious. I don't think that he's going to give it five stars, but I feel like it's going to be fairly high. It was fun. I think, I don't think anyone in that room would have been disappointed in the match that got out of the two of them. And Mercedes Monet leaves the champ.
00:24:32
Speaker
I will say, speaking of, so do you have, I'm curious, let's take a break here in your top five list. Do you have any matches on the list from the GCW show, the LA show? So I have the cage match for everything pulled up. I feel like that one, other than the main event, didn't get an enormous amount of my attention. The one that did, where, shit, where's it at on here?
00:25:01
Speaker
I did think that Leo Rush versus Commander had some pretty amazing spots in it. I think I came in at the very end of that. I think I saw they were raising Leo Rush's hand when I turned on the TV. Yeah, that one was, I think that match, there was enough spots that you would have expected out of those two that it was like, oh shit, that was a cool lucha match.
00:25:25
Speaker
Because I will say, maybe we go interlude here on, how's Nick Gage doing? Does anyone know how Nick Gage is doing? Because that was not the best professional wrestling match I've seen from Nick Gage. Holy fuck. How long do you think that match was? Him and Speedball. Him and Speedball, yeah. 20? Chris. 36 minutes. Really?
00:25:53
Speaker
35 minutes, 54 seconds. No, that's gotta be an error. There's no way that match went 35 minutes. It felt like it went that long, man. And that whole match, guys, this is what I said to them at the end of that match. I said, guys, I think pro wrestling might be fake. And I didn't feel predetermined, guys, predetermined. Obviously, I joke. We love Nick Gage here. But there's just some matches that just,
00:26:23
Speaker
And it's not, yeah, maybe it was a bad match. But I don't know, it was- It was a bad match. It was Speedball Mike Bailey kicking the absolute fuck out of Nick Gage. If that was 35, if that was 36 minutes long, Speedball beat the fuck out of him for 35 of those minutes. I don't even think there was a pizza cutter spot in that, was there? No, and that's the thing, it really didn't,
00:26:50
Speaker
It really didn't reach the level on the violence level, nor really on the work rate, obviously.
00:26:56
Speaker
They went for a couple of big spots at the end. But I mean, the really scary one was was Gage gave him what looked like it looked like he was trying to do. I think you said like the Shane Mercer spot, like the flipping. Which he's never done. Right. Or some version maybe of like it's the Ramon spot. Right. You pick the guy up and he kind of toss him behind you. But he did it from the top rope through a couple of doors. And the floor. Yeah. To the floor. The thing was, I was like either he was trying to flip and he couldn't or he
00:27:26
Speaker
was thinking he was gonna do the spot. And again, like the razor style, right? Where you're falling backwards and kind of tossing the guy, but he just badly misjudged how fast he would be going when he hit the doors because he landed with a thud and it just did not look good.
00:27:41
Speaker
We all gasped, especially because, like you said, it truly looked like he was about to do a backflip and a boarded mid-move. Also, because it was about 2.30 in the morning Eastern time at this point. That's true, he was, yeah. It was a pretty late night. And it was the last match of the entire night at that point.
00:28:04
Speaker
right that was yeah I don't know that match was upsetting and made me start kind of questioning what GCW needs to do with Nick Gage it
00:28:19
Speaker
They don't have any stories for him right now other than they did end it with Masha Slamovich coming out to like cash in and she's gonna cash in in New Jersey. No, in New York. Oh, in New York, you're right. You guys are going to that, right? We are gonna go to that. That's the plan at least.
00:28:37
Speaker
I'm very looks like a good show. I'm really not sure about that match, what that's going to look like. But I'm we'll go for I mean, we'll see. I'm curious. I'm not. Obviously, we love Nick Cage. So I'm hoping maybe that ends up being a better opponent for him than Speedball. But maybe I don't know. I'm at a point where.
00:29:00
Speaker
I love Nick Gage. I want Nick Gage on the shows. I want the Nick Gage entrance. I want the Nick Gage energy. But without the right opponent, it shows where he's at wrestling wise. I think part of the question for him is where the company is going. Who are the right opponents for him? Because certainly there's a whole section of the company that is
00:29:24
Speaker
you know, kind of like heavy work rate style that I don't think really meshes too well with, I mean, it used to kind of better, but I don't think it really meshes too well with Gage at this point. They went too hard into like half, like not even, it used to be like half the show is deathmatch, half the show is honestly matches that could be a PWG. And now it seems like they're more going.
00:29:49
Speaker
95% of the show is PWG style matches and you might get a hardcore match in there somewhere. Right and I think there's a lack even the guys that seem like for example right it could be a good matchup to see Gage against pretty much anyone the second gear crew right you could go back to those guys
00:30:11
Speaker
And you could imagine a gauge match being good, but a those guys seem to be being downshifted in GCW for whatever reason. Um, and even then I think he's worked a lot of those guys in the past. I mean, again, you go back to it. It's been a couple of years, right? Since he worked man's, you know, it's not like, uh, it's so fresh that everyone's going to accuse them of repeating themselves. But, um, yeah, I don't know. I'm just not sure what the, and I also get into your point, just the lack of story, like,
00:30:41
Speaker
who's trying to beat Gage and why and where are we going with this? We had a year of, because pretty much the only stories GCW was doing revolved around Gage. So we had 4-4-0, Ricky-Shame-Page and Gage were like a year and it was awesome. Then we had Mox and Gage, great story. Maybe the matches didn't turn out as good as we had hoped. We had Cardona and Gage, great story.
00:31:12
Speaker
But right now, like, I don't know, him not having a story going into their biggest show of the year feels weird unless they set up something in New York. Right. I mean, that's where actually I, in a sense, like Cardona makes maybe the most sense as champion for them at this point. A guy who could be a base for the. For the flying guys and like pull out wins.
00:31:38
Speaker
and who maybe won't do a full death match, but maybe he does a hardcore match with some guys, I don't know. And again, you transition, I think GCW as a territory, it's a babyface territory at the end of the day, right? So who's the next champion gonna be? You're probably better off with that champion not beating Gage. Well, I mean, at this point, their biggest heel, it seems like they've spent more time building Blake Christian as a heel than anyone. Get out of here.
00:32:08
Speaker
Who else is on there that's heel? I say get out of here because I'm like, Blake Christian shouldn't be. Oh, no. Yeah, you're right. He shouldn't be. And he already had a match with Gage, didn't he? Or no, he had the title match against Mox. Right. He might have wrestled RSP at some point to the title. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know where they go. I don't know. I mean, I mean, even they never did a second round of Gage versus Effie.
00:32:35
Speaker
which was a lot of fun. Effie is could absolutely be a champion at GCW. Yeah, but I think I don't know. To me, I think gauge losing the Cardona and then the next champion being the person who heroically beats Cardona ending GCW's long regional nightmare. I guess it's a national nightmare now. They cover the pretty much the whole country at this point. Yeah, I think I think that's probably the play high level.
00:33:05
Speaker
And the question is who, you know, who are they gonna put in that spot to be the next guy? Or gal, could be gal. But yeah, onto happier things, Garrett. So what's your number four match of the orgy of wrestling? Well, as I look through here, what the fuck else did I want? How many do I have to go to? I think you gotta get to five. Let's try to get to five here. Okay, next would be four, that's easy. Kingston versus Jay White.
00:33:35
Speaker
Okay. That was great. That was really good. Uh, that was, let's see, how long did they go? They went 19 minutes. It was the kind of loser leaves town again, match for J Y. Well, I do like though that somehow, somehow, um, he, he switched opponents from hickoleo to Eddie Kingston and went like five minutes shorter. Cause did you watch the hickoleo match?
00:33:56
Speaker
No, I did not. It did not need to be 25 minutes long. It was and good on Jay White for being like, I'm going to make Hiculeo. I'm going to make this an epic. And but like he was dragging Hiculeo with him. I assume although I have not seen it, but I'm excited. I assume Eddie Kingston, he did not need to drag with him and Eddie Kingston was.
00:34:18
Speaker
up for the game for the challenge of going up against Jay White. Absolutely, absolutely. It's fun to see Eddie in a new Japan ring too. At this point, like a big match for Eddie feels great. And this honestly kind of felt pretty far down on the card. I also like, but I mean, I think part of the nice thing here, if Jay White weren't leaving, query whether Eddie would get to win.
00:34:44
Speaker
But it kind of worked out perfectly in that regard because you want to see Eddie get a big win. Jay White's a fun guy for him to beat because he's a sort of a natural. The two characters very naturally bounce off each other. Yeah. So yeah, I'm excited to watch that one. I'm into that. Curious where Jay White goes. We talked about it last week. It's hard to see.
00:35:06
Speaker
what his role would be in AEW, but at the same time, I'm not exactly pulling for WWE here. Wasn't that part of it, though, that he couldn't fight AEW guys? What was part of it, that he couldn't? I thought it wasn't just... I thought Jay couldn't fight any more AEW guys if he lost. No, I think it's he can't be in New Japan at all if he lost.
00:35:28
Speaker
I thought they added extra shit to that stipulation, which made it to the point where like Ring of Honor would be his only AEW option for WWE. I thought it was just that he had to leave like fully leave New Japan.
00:35:45
Speaker
like not even the US shows, like, which is weird, which would be weird, but. Okay, you're right, it was Eddie couldn't fight any New Japan guys anymore. That was the flip, yeah, yeah, I think that was the, Eddie's part of the thing, which wouldn't be, obviously, play out here. Yeah, that played out was a fun match, I assume. I don't know, I think Switch played, I could see him going to WWE. WWE has had a big signing in a while. They also just feels like they need,
00:36:15
Speaker
another heel, I mean, you gotta assume Reigns is gonna be around less after WrestleMania. And there's kind of a hole there. A lot of the guys have been there for way too long at the top. And that would be a good guy to like, he beats up whoever over the span of a couple months and get him towards Cody. So you end up with two former Bullet Club guys going at it in main event matches that
00:36:43
Speaker
even though I'm not like the biggest Jay White fan, I would not be, he's somebody that I wouldn't be opposed to finally seeing him do something a little different. I think, I don't know, I think WWE could be kind of a nice change of pace for him for a little bit. Yeah, I also think, again, I think his work style is pretty nice for WWE. He works kind of slower. I think, yeah, I felt like he'd kind of tapped out.
00:37:10
Speaker
As how far he was going to get a new Japan, like he'd kind of achieve what he was going to achieve. So yeah, I said, and I never exactly pulling for someone to go to WWE, um, in terms of, you know, our art, cause it's, it's WWE, but you know, maybe the guy gets a nice paycheck and, you know, if we're all as I check in and watch like three minute, five minutes a week, if he and Cody are cutting promos on each other, that's a fun five minutes a week for me.
00:37:40
Speaker
Yeah. I am frantically looking through the shows that I watched being like, what the fuck is five? And you know what? I'm gonna give it to the men's elimination chamber match. Ooh, well that's interesting. Why that over the main event? Because Logan Paul showed up. Also, Johnny Gargano had a couple cool spots in the elimination chamber match. Montes Ford had a couple cool spots.
00:38:10
Speaker
I don't think it was like a particularly, I don't know, I did see some people saying this was one of the better elimination chamber matches. And it may have just been a good group of guys in there that were kind of doing some pretty crazy shit in the safer version of the elimination chamber. But towards the end of the match, Logan Paul, I didn't even see that he had entered the cage.
00:38:32
Speaker
out of nowhere flies in with that buckshot Lariat and hits Seth, gets him on the ground, gives him the curb stomp, Seth's out of the elimination chamber. You assume that means Logan Paul versus Seth Rollins at WrestleMania, which this is kind of, this would be Logan Paul's first like high work rate opponent in WWE. This, before it was the Miz where Logan Paul was kind of doing the cooler shit.
00:38:58
Speaker
Him and Roman, he also was still doing the cooler shit. Uh, him and Ricochet, I think would have been fun, but I think him and Seth will be a good time. Like that is, that's a match I'm ready to tune in for. Yeah. If that's, if I'm watching WrestleMania and that's on, I'm, I'm, I'm intrigued, but interesting. You had that over the main event, which I only saw clips of, um,
00:39:22
Speaker
I did see, the main event was during something with Sawyer Rec. So obviously my eyes are going to be a little distracted while that was happening. I did switch the audio over to WWE to listen to the entrances.
00:39:41
Speaker
And that crowd was behind Sam, he's saying, like no surprise, no surprise at all. But God, he got a pop in Canada as expected and they milked it. They stood there and milked the time of just the crowd going nuts. That match, looking at it, I wonder how much of it was just cheering and rest holds. But it was 32 minutes long, which is kind of long for a WWE main event, right?
00:40:11
Speaker
I think I feel like they've been stretching him longer and that's not maybe maybe it's five minutes or so that being said there are only five matches on this card I mean that is I feel like Hunter is taken for the for the main shows like some of the the NXT his NXT playbook which is just
00:40:28
Speaker
Give the matches time. There's no need for there to be eight matches on the show. There can be a five match show and it's fine, which I think it depends on the show, but yeah, especially like elimination chambers. It's like, you don't have to overpack it. Just let the matches breathe. And I'm fine with that. I will say I, we, we, we asked Derek about how he was feeling about this because Derek is definitely the one who a loves Sammy Zane and Kevin Owens the most.
00:40:59
Speaker
and watches the most WWE of all of us, whether he's wearing the shirt or not, or I don't know. We thought we were puds. At this point, I think he is. I think he is. Like, even if he says he's not, I feel like when I hear from him and wrestle text threads, it is 90% of the time about WWE. Usually about this, like this particular storyline, he's not like shooting me a text about what's going on with The Miz.
00:41:29
Speaker
which Miz hit a fucking half court shot at that NBA All-Star game. That was awesome. And nothing more Miz than the Miz hitting a half court shot, celebrating, and finding out that the ball left his hand like a tenth of a second too late and it didn't count. But on the other hand, if you'd given me odds that the Miz would have a more memorable evening with a basketball than Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks,
00:41:57
Speaker
Cause cause that stuff blew. Like I there, that, that may be one of the worst Kenny Omega and the young bucks matches I've ever seen. It was awful. Did you watch that, that rampage yet? I didn't. I heard that it was not great. It was very bad. It was very bad that basically it's like, um, you know how, you know how like ice cream is always good. Sometimes it's amazing. Sometimes it's perfect, but I mean, can you ever really have bad ice cream?
00:42:25
Speaker
Right. It sounds like maybe, well, here's the thing. If you're, if you're like, if you get your thing of ice cream and you're, you're digging in and, uh, instead of like a chunk of chocolate, there's a basketball. It's not delicious. It's not delicious. And that was the only thing I think that could ruin ice cream for me. It was legitimate. I was like, why on earth is this happening?
00:42:49
Speaker
That sucks, that sucks. And that kind of continues me not really like feeling I have to tune into AEW every week right now. I mean, again, dynamite, go back to, I mean, break this down more. I think dynamite every week is still enjoyable. Rampage is something that I have on while I'm, I think I was reading The Observer. I was reading The Observer and I had dynamite on and I looked up for the Kenny Omega Young Bucks match and I was quite disappointed and I went back to reading The Observer.
00:43:17
Speaker
But yet Derek Derek's take on, um, on the Sammy thing was that he was heartbroken. So I'm really curious to see how WWE fans respond. Cause I, it does seem like he didn't need to win, but they kinda didn't go as far as they could and making it feel special. But I think, do you ever watch wrestle talk? No, I was watching those guys talk about it.
00:43:43
Speaker
And the way one of them put it is, yes, we really, really wanted to see Sammy win this. And we were really, really hoping that would happen. But it's kind of what we talked about. They have they they've booked themselves into a corner where they also have this other thing that we're interested in seeing. And they've booked basically two scenarios where somebody with I don't know, maybe the better story didn't come out. But the way they put it was sometimes you're watching a movie and your favorite character dies.
00:44:14
Speaker
And that is the emotion you're meant to feel is that your favorite character died and didn't win this. So that sucks, especially because it's something the crowd was so, so behind. But I mean, that being said.
00:44:31
Speaker
The crowd didn't hijack any shows to make sure that Sammy won. That helped Daniel Bryan get over. So this is this is objectively a lesser version of that. They cheered on raw for Cody. It looks like I saw the promo that he and went back and forth with Haman on. I love the like Paul Heyman trying to like go deep emotionally with Cody. I'm I'm enjoying that back and forth.
00:44:58
Speaker
You know? But they didn't ruin the show by chanting Sammy over every single match. They did not. You know what, fuckers, this is on you guys. You didn't work hard enough. You didn't want it bad enough. It's true. It's true. Blame the fans. Blame the fans. You hated Batista? They had it coming. They had it coming, Garret. They asked for it. It really did feel like a solid reminder of what it's like to be a WWE fan, though.
00:45:28
Speaker
Oh yeah, this is why I don't invest in these people. This is why I keep my distance from this. That's why in a split screen was watching Sawyer Wreck win the tournament. Not Mickey Knuckles, not a surprise thing where it's like, oh, the person you liked and were hoping would win lost. Oh no, you're happy over here. And over here, the crowd looks really sad. And then to fix it, they have to have Kevin Owens come out and give everybody stunners.
00:45:56
Speaker
No one had to give any stunners at the end of Sawyer Wreck.
00:46:00
Speaker
Mickey Knuckles, Jesus Christ, I thought that lady was gonna leave. I thought I was gonna find out on Monday she was amputated, like her leg was amputated. What happened? Someone sent a link to a video and then described it and I was like, no, that's way too disgusting. I'm not gonna look at that. What happened? So we knew she got fucked up because she was limping and Sawyer wrecked because it ended up being a triple threat because somebody dropped out of the term. Actually, I think it was Casey Kirk.
00:46:27
Speaker
So they ended up having one of the qualifying matches be a triple threat. So it ended with three people instead of one-on-one. So she had to fight whoever else was in the match that I feel bad. I don't remember off the, I mean, I have it pulled up right here. It ended up being Mickey Knuckles, Sawyer Wreck and Kennedy Copeland. So she ended up having to just fight with Kennedy for a while while Mickey Knuckles is on the ground doing surgery to her leg, taping it up with duct tape.
00:46:57
Speaker
finishing it like Mickey Knuckles existed in that match to have shit broken on her. Like it's just like Sabu with the torn bicep in the in the barbed wire match or is this worse? This sounds worse even. I mean it didn't was that gross within the match. I mean kinda he was really badly kind of cut open. They basically like threw some crazy glue and some tape on there were like keep going. Well, she did. She finished and she was hobbling.
00:47:26
Speaker
But then the next day, I think Tag sent us a video on Twitter or something where you see a doctor, you see her in the hospital getting worked on and they are pulling such enormous chunks of glass out of this huge wound on her leg. And the part that I tapped out of the video was the doctor having to stick like essentially an entire digit
00:47:53
Speaker
into the wound to dig out more glass and seem like the skin move around as the finger is like within the leg meat. It was just like, nope, nope. How you feeling Chris? I might throw up some white cloth. Well, you should have kept your scrubs on so you don't ruin your nice shirt.
00:48:16
Speaker
Thank God, though, you wore black because, fucking, I don't know why she did this, but Sawyer Wreck wore white pants throughout the deathmatch tournament. Why would you why would you ruin a brand new pair of jeans? Were they covered in blood at the end? They were a little bloody, but. Oh, strategy. I didn't know. Yeah, go ahead. Yeah, I that sounds gross. I definitely don't want to see that.
00:48:45
Speaker
Props to whoever does. I mean, this is the beauty of wrestling. It's something for everyone. Well, I mean, that's more of a medical video than you don't see it within the wrestling. It's just a gross thing that had to happen after the match. I mean, we know these people get hurt, but you usually don't have to see the consequences on screen. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know what.
00:49:14
Speaker
I am very happy that it seemed like we got some good reactions to Blimp Levy last week. I watched a minute of Blimp Levy wrestling. I did. I couldn't believe that that footage existed.
00:49:29
Speaker
We were mostly talking about him in the thirties, but I believe the video, the minute or whatever that's on YouTube is like from the fifties. I think so. Um, he moved pretty well, finished him off with a power slam. I liked that. I don't know if it was the rule at the time because he, he power slams the guy. And instead of counting three, the ref is just like, Oh, it's over. Like he's not getting up from this. It's over. Don't, I don't even have to count this. I could have counted to 18. It's over.
00:49:55
Speaker
You're knocked out. You were put under the weight of the 900-pound man. It's over. I will say something we did not see during the show, or while we were talking about him, was a friend of the show, Andrew Hendron, sent me a photo and said, I hope you talk. He's like, I haven't finished the episode yet, but please tell me you discussed this. Send us a photo of Blimp doing a perfect splits.
00:50:24
Speaker
One of the most incredible things I've ever seen. I was talking to my wife about Blimp Levy and she was like, Oh, that guy's big. That's like, was, could he, could he even move? Like, how did he, how did he wrestle? And then I showed her the picture of the split and she was like, this is too much for me to process. Which if anybody is looking for some predetermined merge, all I'm saying is look out in the future.
00:50:52
Speaker
there might be a Blimp Levy doing the splits predetermined t-shirt, because you know what, I feel like the Blimp family is not gonna come after us for using a photo we don't own the rights to. Honestly, if all, like, probably 68 of his, like, great-grandchildren want a cut of the enormous profits I'm sure we'd make from that t-shirt, I'm happy to cut them in.
00:51:21
Speaker
It's true. He did the work. Yeah, we didn't earn that a dollar twenty three apiece to each of them. Yeah, blimp is blimps of faith. I wonder if there's more video. I feel like we got a deep dive. We got to see if there is even more video out there or photos. There doesn't seem to be that many photos. I feel like there's just a limited number of them.
00:51:46
Speaker
I want more. Well, you know, fucking Great Depression cameras were hard to come by. There's a guy under a sheet and something has to explode to make the light to make the photograph. That was I mean, probably cost. Probably $87 if you go for inflation to take one photograph. It's true, but we I still need more. I don't know how we're going to say how I'm going to satiate this need.
00:52:13
Speaker
Well, reach out to his family. Find one of those grandkids. Hey, you got any pictures of your great granddad? What do I need it for? I need to comment about your granddad on a pro wrestling podcast. Which he would have loved. He would have loved it. Because back then, the only way you could watch wrestling was to listen to it on the radio.
00:52:40
Speaker
This is just what he envisioned his legacy to be. Oh, do you have more blimp? No. I think this is important to bring up. I didn't see it, but was messaged to let me know that the Daytona 500 this year, slap fight did sponsor a car.
00:53:02
Speaker
Which means that somewhere was a piece of NASCAR slap fight merch that, you know, that's a collector's item. Holy shit. Holy shit. Something we have to talk about this weekend. This is going to be, you know, cause we always hide Garrett's fuck Dwayne stuff at the end of an episode so that Dwayne won't find it. Cause there's no way Dwayne got this far into the episode.
00:53:28
Speaker
XFL launched this weekend for the third time, Chris. Did you watch any of the games? Uh, not a second. I watched technically two games. Um, it's hard to pay attention to that. So XFL round two, the one that Vince did the second time, it got eaten up by the pandemic. Pretty good.
00:53:54
Speaker
people were enjoying XFL round two. It seemed like a thing that given the amount of time, it could have even thrived. XFL round three so far is a little bit of a wet fart. Isn't there a St. Louis team though? Aren't you contractually obligated to support St. Louis sports teams? Well, I pulled out my St. Louis battle Hawks hat from round two and wore it on Sunday to watch their first game.
00:54:23
Speaker
And as I watched these two teams, it was the, oh, they were playing the San Antonio Braumas. Cause Dwayne renamed one of the teams to be, you know, about his full tattoo. I mean, that seems reasonable. That's fine. That's fine. Totally fine. But it was a game of very weak, tiny passes where if you like watching football, where people go about three yards a play.
00:54:50
Speaker
then this is for you. And also within before the second period, maybe during the second, four people had left injured, two of which they said are probably not returning this season. This was game one. That was two people from each team. And I mean, I think when I tapped out on that game, it was three to three.
00:55:14
Speaker
And at one point, one of the St. Louis kickers kicks the for the field goal and goes about 40 feet to the left. And I almost peed my pants laughing. And I refused to wear that hat to the grocery store after the game. I can't let people see me in this. I'm looking at the merch options here. There's not a lot. Not a lot. We could we could you could get a St. Louis Battle Hawks football to play around with Aussie maybe.
00:55:43
Speaker
Well, and it's good because he can't throw very far and neither can they. Right. You're like, look, I, son, I'm not trying to make you an NFL player, but look decent shot. If you enjoy this, you could be an XFL player. Oh my God. The first two games, the rock did show up to both of them. He showed up in Houston.
00:56:05
Speaker
And my wife couldn't stop laughing because there were, I think the stadium was maybe a quarter full. It felt like there were 500 people in that stadium. But they drew a lot higher than the other spring football league. They were like 12,000 or something, which the other spring football league, it was like 300 or some shit.
00:56:27
Speaker
Well, you know, I mean, that's, yeah, it should be. The Rock, the biggest movie star in the world is advertising being at a football game. There should be enough people that want to pay $20 to just go look at The Rock that they show up. But not that many. I pay $20 to look at The Rock.
00:56:46
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, of course, of course. If you lived in Houston, you would have gone to look at the rock for $20 and listen to him start off the season. He did the same thing in San Antonio, cause you know, a short flight and it just, I don't know, it didn't feel like a hot start for the XFL. So we, maybe we'll get them in the fourth round of it.
00:57:11
Speaker
We'll see. I mean, they don't have a team in New York, so I don't really have a dog in this fight. There was a minor league league called the UFL. This is, I want to say 2009. For some reason they were playing in the fall. I don't know why. That seems like a bad idea. There's other real football to watch around that time. And they were going to have a game at city field and I thought, well, that's cool. I've never seen a football game.
00:57:38
Speaker
at city field, that'd be interesting to attend. And, uh, then they, um, they refunded everyone's tickets and were like, do you want free tickets to the game where we're actually going to play it? Which is at the Hofstra university field in like Long Island. And I was like, this seems like a bad offer guys. I don't know. Well, what wrestler showed up for that one? None, not a single one. God damn it.
00:58:04
Speaker
You didn't even get crowbar at that thing. No, no crowbar might've been crowbar was doing the medical attending backstage. He was yeah, he was working on the guys, but he's not crowbar didn't come out and sub. He should have. They probably could have used a crowbar probably would have had a better quarterback, honestly. He's I mean, I know you disagree, but I've seen some athleticism out of him in 2022. Look, hey, if
00:58:34
Speaker
If you're having a wrestling show, and the guy you really wanted to show up didn't show up, Crowbar's gonna give you a nice B minus replacement match. And you know what, B minus is still passing. It's true, it's not even a C, it's much better than a C, or a D especially. It might not get, you know, your parents might not hang it on the fridge, but they aren't gonna spank you or ground you.
00:59:04
Speaker
Exactly. Is there any other wrestling coming up? Did we miss talking about anything or I don't know. What do we, what do we got? It's a good question. I feel like I'm, I'm excited for like what's coming down the pike here. We got the new Japan cup coming up next week. That's always one of my favorite tours because it's like watching like a sporting competition, but it's also still wrestling. So.
00:59:29
Speaker
I'm always in for that. Um, both of the Aussie open guys are in the tournament. So going to be a lot of watching wrestling with my kid over the next few weeks. That's going to be confused as to why they're not together. Oh, I'm, I'm anticipating answering so many questions about why they're wrestling separately.
00:59:45
Speaker
And will they be fighting each other? Cause that's a, that's a popular thing to do when tag teams get split up. They're on separate sides of the bracket. There's it. They'd have to make the finals and spoiler alert. I don't think either of them is making the finals.
01:00:00
Speaker
I have not, I mean, I've not been caught up with New Japan in a long time. And I do want to participate in your bracket tournament here. And see, do we have something? Does the winner of this tournament get something or does the loser get some sort of punishment? Does somebody have to go see Five Finger Death Punch and Brantley Gilbert? Now, that's a good question, Garrett. Because I've always said I think we need more punishments on this show. Because it makes for better stories.
01:00:32
Speaker
I think that whoever wins the tournament, that the bracket challenge gets to choose something that the person at the bottom has to watch. Like, so does it have to be wrestling? Can it be anything? It has to be combat sports related. So it could be an episode of power slap.
01:00:59
Speaker
or just a compilation of the worst leg breaks and kickboxing? Sure, and that's an option. You could make someone watch the Mickey Knuckles video. That's an option if you win this. I think the loser has to pay for an XPW pay-per-view. I don't think we support that, Karen.
01:01:22
Speaker
We don't, the loser does. If you didn't want to pay for it, you would have picked better, you would have paid more attention to your bracket and thought more logically about pro wrestling and who wins matches. And what the New Japan booking strategy usually is around these things. I'm actually nervous. I feel like against you guys, I could legitimately come in last on this.
01:01:47
Speaker
We'll see. We'll see if any other people, if you're a listener and you want to get in on this, send us a DM. We'll shoot you the link. The downloadable bracket is at sportofprowrestling.com.
01:02:06
Speaker
Uh, yeah, I think I, again, I just, I like the tour and they actually, I think they did a good thing this year. Last year they were at like 48 guys. And so there was a ton of like young lions and juniors that were basically just there to lose. Um, and this year they cut it way back. It's 24 all heavyweights. No obvious, you know, losses here. I mean, even chase Owens and Yujiro could win. Even chase Owens could win folks.
01:02:35
Speaker
He's plausible. They, you know, they've done crazier things. Um, but yeah, so it's, I think I'm going to be much more fun. And it's also only, it's only two tournament matches a show. So you can kind of easily just sort of catch up for the day with like a half hour of wrestling. Yeah. Half hour to an hour of wrestling watching. And again, at least one of those, at least one of those days, it's going to be a Yujiro Takahashi match. So you can just skip to the finish of that.
01:03:01
Speaker
So sorry. Mentioning Chase Owens brought up something in the Battle of the Valley, which was fucking at the end of Switchblade, David Finley coming out and basically declaring himself the leader. Well, there's there's one really weird thing about that, which is that if you look at the cards.
01:03:24
Speaker
Cause obviously they've got tag team matches on the undercard of all these shows, right? I mean, it's always, it's the new Japan booking stuff, right? He's teetering with like, not the bullet club. So I don't really understand. Is it he's like declared himself the leader and needs to like, actually be caught like he needs to.
01:03:44
Speaker
No, let me understand. He's teaming with Tomitanga on these, on some of these shows, which seems strange. If he's the new bullet club leader, unless the idea is that they didn't know he was going to lead the bullet club and now they have to tag with them or some, I don't know. I don't know where they're going with this. Who, what would you, if you were offered right now to be the leader of the bullet club, would you want it?
01:04:08
Speaker
Um, it would be like, do you want to be the CEO of Kmart? You're like, is that around? Is that still a thing?
01:04:17
Speaker
I mean, on the other hand, CEOs tend to make a lot of money, even if the company's going down. So, you know, is there a slot? Like, is there, is New Japan offering a specific slot for Bullet Club leader in terms of pay? Because maybe I'll take that. I'll give that a try. Well, what you got to do is get yourself a bigger Shilley than David Fenley. Go compare, because he who has the biggest Shilley is the leader of the Bullet Club. And Chase O and Shilley is very weak. I'm going to hit him with a, um,
01:04:46
Speaker
a fried cheeseburger from Rochester and just knock them out. Which will not travel well to Japan. Will not travel well. It's going to be horrible. That is what the loser eats the fried cheeseburger, American cheeseburger. Oh shit. I wonder if they would, I feel like they would be like, Hey, can you mail us a fried cheeseburger? They'd be like, yeah, whatever.
01:05:13
Speaker
It just shows up in a like an envelope. I thought there was no dried ice in this or something. The fresh rotting. It's like it's like it's like coming through the envelope. It's mostly just it did include some fries, which notoriously are not very they don't travel well. And these fries aren't very good. Like, well, do you got an air fryer? Just throw them in the air fryer and bring them back to life.
01:05:39
Speaker
It's important. You got to have the air fryer. Got to have the air fryer. Yeah, I don't I don't know. David Finley does not seem like an inspiring bullet club leader. I was assuming El Fantasmo was our next leader, but he was an option. Chris Bay was an option. Is he really? Do we know? Do we know that Finley is actually the leader? Is that a thing? I do because he says it.
01:06:05
Speaker
You're like, I've said a lot of things in my life. It doesn't make them all true. Right. Yeah, but so that's well, I guess part of the time I'm a little interested to see where they're going with some of this. I'm kind of interested to see who's winning this tournament, honestly, in the sense that, you know, it's it's always it's always for a title shot at the April show, right, which is not one of their bigger shows, which
01:06:33
Speaker
means I think we're getting someone new and fresh shit. It could be David Finley. I don't know whether that would be maybe that's going to be good. I don't know. Maybe I'm maybe we're maybe we're being dicks. He is the son of an all time great wrestler. So maybe maybe he's going to be amazing. We'll see. But that's I think Fantasmo is an option too.
01:06:58
Speaker
you know, Tai Chi and Sanaa, there's a lot of interesting options here I think to go with potentially. I'm nervous to do this bracket because I really feel like, is it just the who comes in last of the three of us? Or does it count if say a listener comes in last?
01:07:21
Speaker
I think, well, if it's someone who, I think there are probably other people, I know I got a request from someone who's a friend of the show. I won't reveal it yet, so they can maintain their secrecy on this. But I did get a request for the bracket from a friend of the show, so.
01:07:40
Speaker
I think there'll be more people than just the three of us in this. Um, and yeah, I would be willing to let, I mean, I would say whichever the three of us comes in last, someone can pick four because obviously we've got to talk about this, but someone else could win. If someone else wants to come in, if a listener wants to come in, win this tournament, this bracket tournament, and then make us watch something ridiculous. I'm here.
01:08:04
Speaker
I think it should be one of the international listeners that we've never heard from. Sure. I can see that you're out there. I don't know how you found us or why you're listening, but I love you. Sure. If you want to make us watch Turkish wrestling from 1993, I'm in.
01:08:22
Speaker
What if somebody, okay, it has to be combat sports. Can somebody say you have to watch the entirety of the blood sport series with Van Damme include, or like the kickbox. Can it be movies about combat sports? Yeah, I mean, Fight Plus has Kung Fu movies. I think that's in the game. Also, it can be anything on Fight Plus. So if you want us to finally watch some women's rugby, that's fine too. Not a bad time.
01:08:53
Speaker
Shit, so is Fax gonna be back next week to tell us about his trip to Arena Mexico? I believe he will be, I believe he'll be back. I think he's coming back the next couple days. I think he should be emotionally prepared to discuss the goings on. Well, all I hope is that while he was over there, he did pick up that Randy Orton Ferrari wrestling ring.
01:09:15
Speaker
Yeah, I will, I will try to watch more newer wrestling this week. Cause I feel like most of the wrestling I watched this week, I just had like, while I was working on like Friday, I just had a lot of ECW one. I watched like 12 episodes of ECW TV. And then I watched heat wave 98 for the like.
01:09:36
Speaker
800 80th time. I don't know. I don't know. 800 sounds high, but 80th probably. I don't know. I've seen that a comfort viewing for you. It's one of the best paper views of all. Yeah. It's, it's a classic. It was the one, it was the next one. I mean, I got to it in the progression, but yeah, it was like, I don't, I'm not going to be surprised at anything that happens in heat wave 98.
01:09:56
Speaker
but is that a wrestling show? Like, let's say for me, if I'm watching television and I'm clicking through and I see that Grease is on, like, I don't care where it's at, I'm going to finish Grease. Maybe that's not relatable to our listeners, but I'm going to. Is that Heatwave 98 for you? I think it's any ECW for me at this point. I feel like I've hit the point where I think I'm incapable of forming new opinions about ECW.
01:10:22
Speaker
I think, I think I've seen it so much that I'm just like, yup. Remember that thing you felt before? That's the thing that did it on the screen right now. Still feel it. Still good. It's still good. But that's the thing. It's like, yeah, I feel like there's almost nothing that's like new. Um, so.
01:10:45
Speaker
If there's ever, WWE did a couple of DVDs where they just did unreleased ECW matches. And that was actually pretty fun. Cause I was like, Oh, I actually haven't seen this one before. That's pretty cool. I'm looking to see, do we have any, is there anything coming up on fight? I actually see that a new XPW, I think pay-per-view was just added today. So sorry about it, folks. You're going to probably
01:11:15
Speaker
There's a few things, I think they're gonna put up a, it wasn't on, but there's a Beastman show coming up that I think happened this weekend, but it didn't go up on Fight Plus right away, so maybe that's gonna come up in a few days or something. There is a new Kingwin Pro Underground coming soon. Ooh.
01:11:35
Speaker
All right. I think we've hit the end. I feel like at this point, if we're pushing for an hour 20, we're just. I think I think the listeners want want quality over quantity, right? We're not like New Japan, the pandemic, where every main event's got to go, you know, 45 minutes, even even if it involves evil, you know, because that that's the true evil. When you think about it. Poof.
01:12:02
Speaker
Woof. Man, I bet Evil could've got, I think Logan Paul could get a good match out of Evil. I kinda wanna see that now. Logan Paul to New Japan. That is, god, I know he doesn't give a shit about wanting to do that. And it's funny that there are people that like,
01:12:21
Speaker
only want to do WWE. Like I saw Mike Tyson did an interview or said something on his podcast about like he hated doing AEW even though they paid him more money. I say Haiti just he's like, I like WWE better. He's like, that's my show. I understand it.
01:12:39
Speaker
All right, folks. Thanks for tuning in this week. Next week. Hopefully we hear from Jimmy facts in his trip to arena, Mexico, and, uh, whatever, whatever else we end up watching. GCW had a show to celebrate in Vegas in a black room. Looks like a barn. It looks like the ACW, it looks like the ACW shed where they do those things, the Appalachian shed, but pitch black, which sounds like, that sounds like Vegas. Vegas baby. Vegas baby.
01:13:30
Speaker
I didn't watch a second of that show, I probably should, did you watch it? Did you just see the room? I watched like 50 minutes of it and I fell asleep to it. I was tired, it was late. It was like the show was on late, I watched a little bit. Nick Wayne did a couple of flips and then I went gently into that night with Matthew Justice hitting people with chairs, rocking me to sleep.
