Transfer Highlights: João Félix & Diego Carlos

00:01:39
Goggsy
Following Saturday's success in London, we are looking towards recruitment for the squad as this season we are competing in four competitions. Recently we had discussed the possibility of Ciao Felix joining us in Birmingham before he signed a lucrative contract with Chelsea for six seasons with an option for the seventh.
00:01:57
officialgspn
Another dead end here is um Diego Carlos. ah They were looking to potentially move him over the summer. ah We saw Fulham put a bit in and that was rejected. And I think at this point with Emery's comments that he's just he's hopefully sticking around for the season. um Again with the window being still opened but being close to closing I think if a good offer comes in we could see him go but at this point we're pretty full with defenders um so it might be hard for him to break in again to that starting lineup um with that being said we could see Alex Moreno also leaving um again we've got plethora of left full backs so

Alex Moreno's Potential Move

00:02:44
officialgspn
For him, too, if he's looking for playing time, it's it's going to be tough. um With Ian Ratzen, we've got Maddie Cash that can play out there, Lucas Diña. It'll be tough for him. I know he's looking for playing time so we could see him go as well.
00:03:00
officialgspn
Another update. Sorry, go on.
00:03:00
Goggsy
Yeah, Moreno is linked with...
00:03:03
Goggsy
sorry... Moreno is linked with Virial, Valencia and Sevilla.
00:03:09
officialgspn
Where would you like to see him go? Where do you think might be the best hit for him?
00:03:14
Goggsy
Preferably a club that's not playing in the Champions League because with the league face coming up next month, we could be late we could playing anyone from Spain out of the four or five teams that have been put in there.
00:03:17
officialgspn
Yeah.
00:03:28
Goggsy
So like preferably someone that didn't qualify for the Champions League.
00:03:33
officialgspn
He knows a bit too much at this point. We have to keep him on a lead a little bit. um It would be interesting to see how he how he does with La Liga, but we'll just have to to wait and see what happens there.
00:03:45
officialgspn
I know that, like I said, we're pretty full on with the defenders.
00:03:46
Goggsy
Yeah, but we we did sign him from Real Betis as well though, so I think he played well in in that week so he'll feel great at home.
00:03:57
officialgspn
Mm-hmm. Right. Yeah. Do you think there will be kind of that transition? I know at that level, I mean, the football is all pretty similar.
00:04:07
officialgspn
It's all technical tactical in there, but the transition from Spanish to English back to Spanish. How do you think that will go?
00:04:15
Goggsy
I think go back to being a better player than he was when he signed for Villa. a Obviously it's a different style of play in the UK, it's a lot more physical, and whereas across and on the continent everything's very technical I think.
00:04:32
Goggsy
we've We've discussed the great lengths before of the difference between football on this island and football on the bigger island, which is the continent. But yeah, it'll be interesting to see how he does, but like we need we need to get him off the wage bill if he's wanting to go, so a I think he goes with everyone's blessing from the claret and blue sand of Birmingham.
00:04:59
officialgspn
most definitely. Another one I think we can squash here is John Duran. Hopefully, I mean him netting that game winning goal. I think should be.
00:05:10
officialgspn
Testament

John Duran's Role at Villa

00:05:11
officialgspn
enough.
00:05:11
Goggsy
Yeah I hope so.
00:05:12
officialgspn
Don't think he's joining the. Yeah, yeah, I don't think he's going to West Ham anytime soon. I know that for him again it is. He's looking for minutes, ah but I know I think he's just impactful off of the bench.
00:05:24
officialgspn
Obviously you know the question is, is Ollie Watkins fit enough to go a full 90 at this point and you just proved that he wasn't. So I think what John Duran needs to do is just capitalize on this opportunity that he's been giving.
00:05:38
officialgspn
and it's it's showing he is going in and being impactful from the start so hopefully we'll see what happens from there we'll see maybe we'll see him get a few starts more more minutes but we'll just have to wait
00:05:53
Goggsy
Next up, we're taking a deep dive into player profiles of who we're looking to bolster our squad with in what has already been a busy transfer window in the Claire and Blue side of Birmingham. Potential Signings: Joe Gomez & Kane Taylor

00:06:43
Goggsy
Now we're talking about player profiles of that Aston Villa are linked with or potentially probably signing. First up, we're going to be talking about Joe Gomez, who obviously is at Liverpool. He signed for Liverpool in 2015 from Charlton for a measly fee of £3.5 million, pounds a which is actually a 15th of what is quoted at 45 million. and Newcastle are also waiting in the wings for his signature.
00:07:14
Goggsy
and but Liverpool seem to be dropping the asking place as the transfer of Arundel goes on. and The defender can play at centre half, but he also plays right back. He comes with 49 career appearances in European football with a Champions League winner's medal. This is an experience that is welcome to us with such a young squad.
00:07:36
Goggsy
a 248 career appearances with no goals to show for it a but as medals make up for it with the the Premier League in 1920 FA Cup in 21-22 EFL Cup 23-24 and of course the UCL in 2019 runners up in 21-22 and also he won the Super Cup and Club World Cup both in 2019 what do you make of that now
00:08:03
officialgspn
I think that's the experience that we're looking for to bring in. I think this definitely would be useful um to know that a player has competed so many games at such a high level in different competitions. I think it's definitely an asset. um I think he'll have no problems if we sign him fitting right into the squad um and definitely elevating um how Villa play, um just the intensity, the player IQ and that sort of thing. ah What are your thoughts?
00:08:34
Goggsy
I think it would be really good, of course, we have discussed previously about the sort of lack of depth in the right-back position, even though we've got Matty Cash and Konza that can play there. and I think Joe Gomez, albeit he's primarily a set-and-a-half, he'll also be and very welcome to be playing at right-back as well.
00:08:55
Goggsy
m but it just Signing players that are well-rounded that can actually play in more than one position is very key, especially when the Champions League score registration comes up a because everyone everyone's going to have to play in more than one position.
00:09:12
officialgspn
Definitely, it gives that flexibility to deal with injuries um and even just match ups against your opponent. um Each player has a different personal playing style, of course. um I personally think I know Kansa can play in the middle and he can play um outside back, but I prefer him as a center back, um but that's just me. But, you know, bringing in another player that can do that as well, i that just gives us more options um and more opportunity for success, in my opinion.
00:09:45
officialgspn
And to to speak on the versatility, I think that's a common theme with um some of the players that Bill is rumored to be linked with.
00:09:45
Goggsy
Absolutely.
00:09:54
officialgspn
ah For example, another one is Kane Taylor, ah potentially bringing him back home. I know that he he was signed to us and he left. in 2019 for Manchester City. and But potentially we could be ah signing him back, which will be really exciting. He's very versatile center, midfielder, comfortable dropping in to help out the back line. um But I think Manchester City U21s and academies is very tough for the young players to break through to the first team.
00:10:26
officialgspn
ah He's done well in Premier League too and he stood out ah in the UEFA Youth League But I think again he it's it's hard to come to that system um I think for him would be a wise decision to come back to Villa um We can see that Emery's really looking into younger players um So I think there's an opportunity for him there as well
00:10:56
Goggsy
Yeah and he comes what is apparently going to come in with a £1 million pound transfer fee and a 25% sell on. and So if if we do sell them for big bucks in the future, Mad City will be getting 25% of the fee.
00:11:12
officialgspn
I think that's that's a smart recruiting move as well. ah You're either going to end up with a young player who um flourishes and they become a future star or you're kind of securing ah your finances for later on and you'll be able to sell and potentially turn a profit.
00:11:30
officialgspn
um And then that will help whatever situation we are in the future. Hopefully it's a good one. um But what are your thoughts? I know that there's been a lot of younger players that we've brought in or have considered bringing in. Do you think that's something worth worthwhile and in worth taking that chance? Because you never really know what will transpire.
00:11:58
Goggsy
I think it's a low risk move, I think it's good to be only be purchasing him for a million, obviously with the future fees in mind, but and I think his value will go up once he does start Premier League matches because there's only a mit only a matter of time before he does break into the first team, whether it be at Man City or Aston Villa.
00:12:23
Goggsy
and and I look forward to seeing him flourish. I mean we are stacked in the midfield at the moment but I think the table come because he's a young player he he doesn't need to be registered for the Premier League or the Champions League because under 21s are registered anyway and they can play whenever. However when that time comes I think people will start raving about him and we'll hopefully see a lot more spoken about him in the near future and we should be able to if we were to sell him on I think we'll sell him on probably but between 20 and 40 million ah if that ever happens but yeah it's a great move for both clubs I think because Man City probably have far too many players to I mean they buy as many players as they see fit so
00:13:16
Goggsy
Yeah, I think yeah it's it's definitely a good move for us.
00:13:17
officialgspn
Definitely.
00:13:22
officialgspn
He's only 19. I mean, to see, to see where things go, even if he, you know, gets a lot of matches with the U-20 ones, I don't think that will cause any harm. Like I said, I just, I think it can only be positive, um, the outcome, whatever the outcome may be.

Lutsharel Geertruida's Expected Transfer

00:13:40
Goggsy
Yep, and moving on to our third and final player profile, we have got Lucherel Giertruda from Firenord Rotterdam. We all have been linked with him and locked in talks with Firenord over Lucherel Giertruda for the last week or so. The 24-year-old has never left Rotterdam playing for Overmass Spartan and Sparta Rotterdam in his youth career before moving to De Kuit in 2012.
00:14:08
Goggsy
He's made 11 appearances for the Dutch A-squad with his debut being made last year. He can play 7.5 from right back, CDM. 200 appearances in all competitions, 23 goals. He's won the editor-visit in 2022-23. KNVB Cup in 2018 and 2024. The Euan Cruyff Shield in 2018 and 2024.
00:14:32
Goggsy
and he was also at the conference, so he could run us up with FireNerd against Roma in 2021-2022. It says on his wiki that his current team is actually Aston Villa, so official confirmation should be imminent. What do you think, Niall?
00:14:47
officialgspn
Yeah, hopefully. um Just, yeah, listening to kind of everything that we've talked about um just, I kind of wonder, are we signing a bunch of Jack of All jack-of-all Trades, Masters of None, and is that actually detrimental yeah that's great we have tons of players that can play a ton of positions but how effective are they or or do you prefer having someone who just specializes in one position and that's that's all they do do you think that the would is that just modern day football now
00:15:19
Goggsy
I think... Sorry. Go on.
00:15:28
Goggsy
I would say so. and I think you need a mix. I think you can have one or two maybe that specialise in one position, for example, Watkins up top. You can't really play with anyone else. But I think, especially the the further back you go, you need a player that can play in multiple positions because, like, I mean, they rate the amount of wages you you end up spending, if you sign three players for each position and instead of just maybe signing less players that can play in more positions,
00:15:58
Goggsy
I think it's good and I think it's important considering like your your your first choice right back could be injured and you've got a set and a half that can slot in at right back as well.
00:16:12
officialgspn
Definitely. I think you know he's he sounds like he's got a very very fulfilled resume. And that does bring a point of, OK, how much money are we spending here to bring in these these players? Because you do want to bring in experienced players who have played high levels. They've played in different leagues. They've played um international competitions. But that comes at a price as well. And I think that's something to keep in mind as well.
00:16:39
officialgspn
um I know obviously Emory is probably looking for long-term solutions as well, but it's not to forget that we do have Champions League and for us in our performance in the conference league, I think obviously that needs to be strengthened. um so And you know, balancing profit and sustainability and in those rules there. But I think i think for for me, it's it's he might be a no brain signer for me. what what What would you do in that situation?
00:17:16
Goggsy
but I just think he's a really good signing. I've been a fan of his for years. I think he was linked with other clubs as well. At Atlanta we're looking at him and they recruit very well so I think to be singing from their him sheet as well is a good thing and it's a good vision for us. and I think all it does is bolster our options and I mean, I think he would come in and play ahead of Matty Cash or concert right back because I think his pace and his aerial ability as well is very important.
00:17:51
officialgspn
Yeah, I do agree. I do see them coming in and being impactful immediately. Just right right into that 11. But hopefully that gets confirmed soon. And maybe that's the inset scoop from us.

Half-and-Half Scarves: Sentiment vs. Commercialization

Goggsy
For our future recall added time, we are discussing off-topic subjects that could be deemed as controversial. Since football became a globally commercialised scheme, let's say, there have been several a several opportunities to squeeze more money out of a football fan's pocket. For instance, half and half scars. Nailah, what do you think about half and half scars?
00:19:07
officialgspn
I think there's a time and a place. I won't i won't say I'm a big fan. i I understand if it's a big match or if it's like a Champions League quarterfinal or something like that. Definitely by all means and should never be a regular season match thing. um yeah i just Yeah, I just think that's too much. I couldn't do it personally. I don't i don't think I own any half and half scarves and I've got quite a few.
00:19:34
officialgspn
But i don't I don't know if I would do it. I think for a big match, perhaps, but if it's a regular thing, definitely not. Do you own any?
00:19:46
Goggsy
Yes, I'm guilty of owning one. When my Scottish team played against Romanian side Stelja Bucharest in 2010, my uncle got me a half and half scarf because I couldn't meet the match because it was a holiday. I lost 6-1 on aggregate but because Story of Bucharest have actually won the European Cup. I think that was mean one of the main reasons why I got one. a But apart from that, I am totally against half and half scarfs. I do not like the concept. But am if it's a really big game, if it's a one-off match and you're playing against
00:20:27
Goggsy
ah a club that's much bigger than your own or much smaller than your own. I think it's a ah good momentum to have but I would never get a league match half and half scarf because that there is no point to that. It's just a farming method of getting money.
00:20:47
officialgspn
Yeah, i've I've bought the ticket. um I've paid for the con concessions. Just enough, leave me alone. Yeah, I don't know.
00:20:58
Goggsy
Yeah, of course. But Nailah, I believe you've got a topic to bring up as well.

Olympic Football Variations Debate

00:21:04
officialgspn
I've got one. I hope it's not really up for debate. i think I think football needs to be refreshed, especially in the Olympics context, since those have just happened. Enough with the 11v11. It needs to go.
00:21:19
officialgspn
I think it needs to be replaced with something else, anything else. Could be futsal, could be small-sided, could be beach football. That would be cool. That would be more summer Olympics. But the 11v11, I just don't see the point. I mean, with all the other, we've got um the Euros, you have the World Cup. We have all these other international competitions, 11v11. Just lay it to rest for the Olympics.
00:21:46
officialgspn
Find something else, anything else. um What are your thoughts on that?
00:21:51
Goggsy
Yeah. I completely agree. um You see, funnily enough, felt I went to an Olympics football match in 2012 when there was a game at Hamden Park. a It was France Ladies is against Sweden.
00:22:08
Goggsy
And I think the women's football is fine because ah obviously like women's football takes it a lot more seriously whereas in the men's football it's like three over 23 year old players that are allowed.
00:22:24
Goggsy
and then the rest it's youngsters, or basically up-and So I think if it came to men's football, obviously it would come into question of equality and all that, but I think in men's football there are enough matches as there is. yeah You've got players that are playing 60 matches a season, for example, and then you've got the Euros, the World Cup, as we've already spoken about,
00:22:51
Goggsy
Champions League has been expanded as well, so you're you're guaranteed eight games the instead of six and that's before the knockouts. So ah but I would have to agree, I think bringing in amateur players that could play beach soccer or futsal for example, I think it it brings in a lot more skill and technicality is instead of just running for 90 minutes.
00:23:16
Goggsy
um I mean you've already got that the the half marathons in that that are already included, the mofaras in that and they specialise in that because footballs become so so much more of an athletic sport.
00:23:29
officialgspn
Mm hmm.
00:23:30
Goggsy
Like in the modern day I think it's much more a appropriate if they were to bring in either beach soccer or foot style for example.
00:23:42
Goggsy
What were your thoughts?
00:23:42
officialgspn
Yes, most definitely. um I think that gives opportunity for countries where futsal or, you know, the small technical um aspects of football shine. um That would give them perhaps more of a chance to showcase that. But that also brings me to my next question. If that were to happen, they made that change for the Olympics.
00:24:05
officialgspn
Are we seeing new people represent the countries? Are we seeing stars like Ollie Watkins? Is he making the squad for like a beach football or or puts all like what do we think is how is that going to shake things up?
00:24:22
Goggsy
I don't think clubs would allow players to go off and play like beach soccer. I mean, and maybe maybe it's all right as i have a pre-season pass team with when they're just messing around with the first team squad, but I think on a competitive level, I think they'd have to bring in specialised players that actually play beach soccer or futsal, for example, because they're different sports in their own right.
00:24:26
officialgspn
yeah okay
00:24:41
officialgspn
Mm-hmm.
00:24:45
Goggsy
And I think because there's more skill involved with those, ah think they I think they should bring in people that actually play it.
00:24:45
officialgspn
Definitely.
00:24:56
officialgspn
And put Harry Kane on the bench so he can win something maybe.
00:25:02
Goggsy
with without there's still no nogality i but that there's still no guarantee that win anything absolutely and with that
00:25:02
officialgspn
Sorry. Slight dig. Slight dig, sorry. Yeah.
00:25:12
officialgspn
Yeah, there you go. Well, all I had to get subbed on to get the job done, but let me not talk myself into trouble here.
