Speaker
No, no where to go but up. Oh my god, this is great. Tom should have said best guest because that is true, but also first. Hey, a lot of things. Heaviest guest, heaviest guest, lightest guest. Anything you want. Richest guest, poorest guest.
00:01:14
Speaker
any name you want to put to it. It's yours. It's yours, man. That's awesome.

Podcast Atmosphere and Bills Fan Connection

00:01:19
Speaker
Well, hey. Well, welcome on. We're so happy to meet you and say hello. And yeah, I'm glad that you could do that. My pleasure. From one Tom to another, a Tom and a Jake. I can handle that. I like that. Absolutely. Yeah, that works for me. Relatively. Yeah, I like it.
00:01:31
Speaker
I feel like I'm already at a Bill's gathering. We got Tom's and Jake's. It feels like I don't think I've ever been to a Bill's party without a Tom, or at a Jake. I think all of them. Yeah, there we go. Back in Western New York, right? Absolutely. Yeah. I'm in Rochester right now. Oh, no way, dude. Yeah. That's it. Yes.
00:01:50
Speaker
Should,

Beer Corner Tradition

00:01:51
Speaker
yeah, let's crack a beer. So we have a tradition on our, on our podcast when we do a beer corner, where we all crack a beer, like what we're drinking and where it's from and that kind of stuff. So here we go. We're going to crack together. We'd like to get the nice crisp crack on the audio. I gotta go get, I gotta go get another one then. Give me two seconds. That's a good excuse. That's a good excuse for it. Yeah, you know, might as well. Absolutely. Yes. Yes. Start off with a fresh one. For sure. For sure. Totally. I think this calls for it.
00:02:20
Speaker
absolutely it's all right okay perfect here we go are you ready to go. Three, two, one. Hey, cheers guys. Cheers. Cheers. Tommy, the honor is yours. What are you drinking? All right. I am drinking. Tommy, Tommy. Our guest, Tom, settle down. You know what? Oh no. Who could blame you? After you. Tom, from Tom to Tom, I'd like you to go first.
00:02:48
Speaker
I appreciate that. And I'll accept, although normally I would never step in front of another Tom. I went old school. I looked around. I was going to do something more microbrewy. The good old Genesee Specialty Oktoberfest is out. And we're just days away from October.
00:03:08
Speaker
And I know that Oktoberfest in Germany, I think is like September usually, right? I think so. Yeah. Yeah. I don't get it. I don't understand it, but I like pretty much every Oktoberfest that is made. So yeah, I got Oktoberfest. I watched
00:03:23
Speaker
Ahsoka, and I drank two of them during that. And now I'm on three and four because I accidentally opened my toilet. It's my own. It's just me and my mom here. My mom's

Tommy's Fan Journey

00:03:34
Speaker
hiding in her room watching NCIS or Blue Bloods. And I'm just pounding Oktoberfest at her kitchen table. And let me tell you, for a Wednesday night, I don't know that I've partied this hard since college. Hey, there we go. Well, we're glad we could be a good influence. Absolutely. So what are you boys drinking?
00:03:51
Speaker
All right, Tom, your turn now. Oh, me, Tom? OK. All right, I'm drinking a Munich Fest, right around the corner from October Fest in Jack's Abbey. Yeah, this one's really tasty. Nice. Yeah. Nice. My dad brought me back a bunch of Bayern Munich soccer gear a long time ago. Oh. So when I first moved to LA, I was like, one thing I'm going to change about myself is I'm going to reel into like European football. And I was like, dad, give me some German football gear.
00:04:20
Speaker
He brought me back a bunch of stuff that I think I probably gave to Goodwill like three months later. I was like, I'm not going to get into football. The only thing I know about that team is they had a Polish striker named Lewandowski. That's all I got. That's all I got. You got more than me, and I claimed that I was going to be a fan of theirs. Hey, I didn't get any merch.
00:04:41
Speaker
All right, well, I promise we didn't plan this, but I also have a German-style beer from... Oh, my God. From Swiftwater, so... For Germans, I don't know. Rochester Connections, man, but it's a schwarz beer, German-style dark lager, so... Wonderful. It's that season. It's that season. Yeah, broast. Yeah, we're all just trying to pack a little extra weight on before the winter. Exactly. It's like... I don't know about you guys, and obviously this is your podcast, so tell me to shut up whenever you want, but this summer I had, like, a renaissance, because it was really hot.
00:05:10
Speaker
in LA all summer. And I had like a Coors Light Renaissance. Like normally I would not drink Coors Light, but it was so hot that I feel like
00:05:18
Speaker
Anything that had any kind of extra flavor besides water and just a little bit of alcohol, it was just too heavy. And now I'm back here, it's like 60s, still really nice, but I'm like, all right, I can have a better flavored beer now off the course line. You don't need just hydration for alcohol. I'm not drinking for health anymore. I'm drinking for destruction again. Yes, yeah, very good. Very, very good. I love it. Wonderful.
00:05:43
Speaker
Yeah. Well, hey, so question number one, we got to start here. What was your calling card into Bill's

Memorable Bills Games

00:05:51
Speaker
Mafia? What's your origin story with Bill's Mafia? Sure. Well, it's a little scandalous. And I don't know if I've admit this on a public platform before, but so I was a huge Bill's fantasy kid.
00:06:02
Speaker
Two sisters, also Big Bill's fans, little brother, my mom and my dad, both Big Bill's fans, watched all the Super Bowls. I was like very young for those, but still cognizant. I can remember, I don't really remember the first one or the second one. I really, all I remember is getting killed in the fourth one. Like that's kind of like, and I remember we had like parties and then me and my cousin in the mid 90s decided we were going to be Raider fans.
00:06:27
Speaker
We were like, we're going to be Marcus Allen, Tim Brown guys. Then Marcus Allen went to the Chiefs. So it was like that plan immediately fell through. So I was just kind of in this weird, like,
00:06:41
Speaker
defying my father, like, I'm going to be a Raider fan until I was like 19 or 20. And then it just was not fun. Both teams, both the Raiders and the Bills were bad. And it was like, if I'm going to root for a bad team, why am I not rooting for the team that binds me with my family? And then especially when I moved across the country,
00:07:01
Speaker
I would get together with other people from Rochester and Buffalo Sunday to watch football and it was like, oh, this is crazy. So I just kind of migrated back to being a Bills fan, to be fair, at a point where both teams were awful. So it was like, it was a very natural move back, but it was also like, Oh, this is great. Like me and my brother are texting about the Bills every weekend and like, you know, he's a very smart engineer person and I'm a professional clown. So it's like, we don't have a lot of other stuff to talk about.
00:07:27
Speaker
So that was like very nice. And you know now my dad's got this whole set up like he's got a heated garage and he goes all out for the games. And my mom has a tray white jersey we got her. She goes all out for games. It's awesome. So that was so. So it was kind of a prodigal son journey for me. Yes. I was seduced by Notre Dame's own Tim Brown. And I you know I just I felt for a speedy receiver very controversial Heisman winner. And then you know.
00:07:56
Speaker
I came home and the bills mafia welcomed me with open arms. Hey, there it is. I was the same way I fell for the siren song of Mike Alstott sure button up and that was I watched the Tampa Bay Super Bowl. I was slightly younger and watch that when I was like every night and I was like.
00:08:13
Speaker
Oh, that's what football is. Absolutely. Bills, I mean, it's fun to go sit with my grandpa and watch the Bills play, but this is, whoa. The Bills are what the Bears are now, where it's like a new coach every year or two. And there was like a big, I remember just like, I've always been huge into like sports writing and reading, like, you know, sports journalism. And just the business side of the Bills, the last like decade of the Wilson family ownership was like,

Bills' Past Challenges and Community Unity

00:08:42
Speaker
They wouldn't pay a coach over $500,000 a year. And then you'd see the really good teams paying their coaches $8 million. And you're like, the discrepancy of coach, this is why we have Dick Duran and Chan Galey. And those people are coming in to coach. And Greg Williams, who's like,
00:08:59
Speaker
probably she belongs in prison. I think the person we screwed up the biggest with was Jim Schwartz. I think he was actually the best coach we had when he was our coordinator.
00:09:13
Speaker
But we just kind of, we needed like a clean break. But yeah, you know, so I feel like anyone who has taken a second sports lover that's a Bills fan, like they get a free pass from like 95 to 2010. Like you're allowed to have strayed because they did nothing to keep us. They did nothing.
00:09:32
Speaker
Exactly. Yeah, it's like that. It's like the Mormon Church or some church group. They kick you out of the community. But if you come back, you're part of it. Welcome back with open arms. It's funny, though, because I still have friends from high school that like, you know, obviously coming home.
00:09:47
Speaker
Some people I haven't seen in a decade or two and like they're like, wait, aren't you a Raiders fan? And I'm like, I don't want to go explain this. So I'm just like, yes, I don't care. Like, sure. Like they're like, why are you wearing a Bill's jersey? I'm like, I don't know, man. I like the Bills now. Is that okay? Like I liked them before. I have school pictures of me and Bill's jerseys in like second through fourth grade. So it's not like it was a new thing, but you know. Right. Right. I get it. I get it. That's funny. Yeah.
00:10:12
Speaker
But it's been so fun the last five years or so, you know? Things have really turned around. So good. Yeah. I'm a teacher. Oh, yeah. No, nice. I teach in New England. So it's the best. Oh, wow. Yes. Now I can just dunk on a bunch of 11-year-olds, and it feels great. It's your time. It's your time. Yeah. What do you got, kid? I went to school. I was going to school to be a teacher before I moved to LA. Oh, yeah? That was my plan. Yeah, my mom is, well, she's retired now. She was an elementary school teacher for years and years.
00:10:41
Speaker
I thought I thought I was going to be a high school history teacher for sure. And then I started building, like doing construction on commercial and TV sets. And I was like, okay, I'm going to move to LA instead. But yeah, you never know. I can go back to it. I could go back. Hey, yeah, you could. Yeah, you could roll right back. What do you teach? I teach music. So I'm bands, chorus, general music, middle school. Oh, man, it's great. It is. It is really fun. It's really cool.
00:11:05
Speaker
So you're from Rochester. What part? We're kids. Us too. We went to Schrader. No kidding. I went to Schrader. Well, you know, I'm probably, you guys were born in what, early nineties? Yeah, in 93. Oh, so you might, my brother's a little older. Actually, my brother's over an older, my little, my baby brother is four years older than you. I'm like, you probably knew my brother, but he was gone by then.
00:11:27
Speaker
Yeah, I graduated in 2002. OK, OK. Yeah, that's just too small world, though. That's seven degrees of separation here. Yeah, crazy. Yeah, that's where I am right now in Webster. Oh, lovely Webster. Nice. Good old Summit Knolls. Good old Red Cross from Schrader. Actually, it's funny. My nephew is playing football. He's got a game tomorrow. I'm like, oh, I can't believe I'm going to watch Webster football straight out there. Ghost, yeah.
00:11:54
Speaker
Let's go Warriors. What elementary schools did you go to? This is great for podcast listeners. The deep cuts. The rest of our family and friends are mostly from Webster too. So this will be applicable. I'm a plank South kid. I was plank North.
00:12:13
Speaker
And I'm State Road, State Road. State Road, I also went to State Road for it. Oh, nice. I used to live on State Road, yeah. Wow, this is- That's crazy. This is, you know, the craziest, like, blending of two worlds. I was doing dinner theater in Bourbon, California. So it's like very suburban, nice area of LA, north of Hollywood. And I'm like, it's like a murder mystery dinner theater show. So we're running around. I'm one of the detectives. Detectives are like the hosts.
00:12:42
Speaker
And our job is to kind of grill the audience and make fun of them. It leans very comedic. And so I made a reference to Rochester, New York. And this guy starts clapping. And I'm like, Rochester? He's like, yeah. And then he looks at me. He's like, yeah, Tommy. And I'm like, because we're using fake names. I'm like, oh, you just said my real name? I'm like.
00:13:00
Speaker
He's

Bills Memories and Fan Spirit

00:13:01
Speaker
like, it's me, Billy. We played Little League together. And I was like, so he was from Webster 3,000 miles away. And it was a dude I played Little League with. It was crazy. I was like, oh my god. Talk about breaking the fourth wall. No kidding. I was done. I was like, I'm sorry. I need 10 minutes to recover. That was funny. That was very funny. She's like, yeah.
00:13:23
Speaker
the rosea that's wild but yeah absolutely so um so then like we'd love just kind of like pick your brain let's chat like what are some of your favorite like bill's memories like oh the game is supposed to growing up like like what like you talked about the super bowls like what was what was that like you know i i can remember those parties that's really like i said i can't remember much of the games they still kind of like you know i think by the last one i was 10 but i think
00:13:49
Speaker
Even then, I don't really remember, I just remember being, like I remember Don Beebe chasing the guy down that was running for the, pretty faint, but I also could have seen that on SportsCenter in 2001. I'm like, is that the memory? And map that to your, yeah. But I do remember watching the Miracle Comeback game, the Houston game, the Houston Oilers, the 35-3 or whatever. I remember going, we were at my Uncle Joe's house and we had to like,
00:14:14
Speaker
He had to keep going up to adjust the antenna because it was like fuzzy and we couldn't get like the game for whatever reason. And I also remember me and my cousin came in to the room and the bill started doing good because we're trading baseball cards in the other room.
00:14:27
Speaker
And my dad made us stand where we were standing out of superstition. So we like stood there, but we were going nuts. And the other thing I remember from that game is that my, my uncle Kevin. Who's like, he's, he's, he's not actually my uncle, but it's like, you know, you acquire uncles. He had bet on the Oilers and he was like, so overjoyed for like 33 minutes of that game. And then he just watched him be like, Oh shit.
00:14:52
Speaker
But, uh, so that was a good one. I, you know, I have a lot of fun, like, I haven't been to a bunch of, um, like amazing games, but I was at the season opener against the Rams last year in LA. That was really cool. Sweet. That was really fun. I was also at a random game where TO went off with the one year he played for the bills. Yeah. And that was kind of fun. Like just to watch, I think it was like, it was like a snow storm.
00:15:17
Speaker
And he caught like a 75-yard TD pass. And I was on the other end of the end zone. You couldn't even see him. By the time he was in the end, that was pretty cool. One of my favorite viewing experiences, although it pains me because it was Fitzpatrick.
00:15:32
Speaker
is when the Bills picked off Fitzpatrick four times to keep the Jets from going to the playoffs that one year. I was at that game and I was in a section that had the heated seats, which is the only time I've ever sat that good. Those are mythical. Those are all legends. Trust me, we got them once. That was me and my dad and I don't know how he pulled it off. We're certainly not.
00:15:55
Speaker
we're not heated seats people normally normally worse sneak up fifth of jack in your crotch people yeah oh yeah stay heated in the in the in the bleachers makes me feel heated at that i also almost got kicked out of a game once because i snuck into fifth of jack and i was petting a guy's fur uh hood like an animal because i thought it was hilarious he did not uh and they and they warned me like twice not to do it and i just kept going like that it was bad
00:16:20
Speaker
I've grown up a lot since then. I'm telling you not to do it. It just makes you want to do it more. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, those are kind of some of my highlights. Watching games with my family, though, now that I have nephews and nieces that love it, and even the at-home watching experiences, there's just something about this team that
00:16:42
Speaker
I'm sure everybody who has a hometown team feels that way, but it's like, it's so ingrained in everybody's blood here. Like you can't go to the store. It's like upsetting if you say go bills to someone on a Sunday morning and they don't say it back. You're like, what is wrong? What did I do? They might as well like flipped off your mother. And it's amazing how
00:17:01
Speaker
how national it is because every time i've gone to disneyland or disney world or anywhere like big there's always a ton of bill's hats anytime i see a bill's hat in l.a or bill's jersey or i work with someone and they were like they're like oh i'm from buffalo it's like
00:17:16
Speaker
You instantly, in an hour conversation about the comedians. Instant connection. Yeah, you said it earlier. Brings people together. Absolutely. I've had people cross this. I lived in New York City for a number of years. I would have people cross the street, like running through traffic to be like, go Bales. Yeah. That's something I do. And then it's always jarring. I think like Vegas is where it happens the most, but where people are just wearing jerseys and you realize that when you're like, go Bales. And they're like,
00:17:44
Speaker
What? Why are you talking to me? You're like, I'm sorry. You're wearing a Rob Johnson Bill's jersey. Does that? There's a choice for that? Does that sink in? They're like, it just goes good with my eyes, I guess. Anyway, yeah. That's awesome. Absolutely. So you're wearing a Josh Allen jersey. Yes, I have. My buddy gave me a custom Bill's jersey with my name on it.
00:18:13
Speaker
Oh, sweet girl. I don't know how interesting this is for football, I guess. But we've got to audition a lot for commercials out in L.A. if you want to try and make your living as an actor. There's a lot of football commercials. Obviously, there's an advertised spend on that's huge. And most of the commercials during the games
00:18:34
Speaker
feature people in football gear. So you get a lot of auditions that are like wear a football jersey. So me and my buddy were like, we got to just get jerseys made. And I remember I like house sat for him for a week, and he came back, and he had a custom build jersey. He was like, thank you for me. So I usually wear that, but I felt like Josh took so much shit after the first week that I'm like, I'm wearing Josh's jersey now. Absolutely. So everybody relaxes a little bit. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. Yeah.
00:19:02
Speaker
those auditions, we wanna know, you've seen Josh in all those commercials. I know, and you know the sad thing, and this is again,
00:19:11
Speaker
It's like this is inside baseball, but it's like so many of those are non-union, so I can't audition for them. Oh, no. Or they're partial non-union where they'll, Josh is probably in the union, and they probably pay him, and then they pay the other people. But I'm like mad at how many bills commercials are this year. I'm like, I gotta call my manager and be like, how the hell was I not in at least one? I lean in pretty hard on this.
00:19:38
Speaker
It wasn't just a fit, all right? Yeah, exactly. Well, you know, I will say, though, I have gotten some nice perks. Like, 26 shirts sent me a bunch of their old. Oh, yeah. They're like leftover inventory to wear at my other job at New Rock Stars. They sent me a bunch of shirts to wear on the air that were just random ones they had left in their warehouse, which is cool. Oh, that's cool. And I've gotten some other nice perks over the years of just people sending me stuff that's bills related. So that's not all.
00:20:06
Speaker
I'm pretty spoiled when it comes down to it. That's cool. That's cool. What do you think of Josh's acting? I think Josh is like, he's literally a golden retriever. And it's just like, he's impossible not to like like, but I get like, I totally understand.
00:20:24
Speaker
how overexposed he is, right? He's in so many commercials now. And that was like the big Baker Mayfield thing the first year. It was like, wow, Baker's in a bunch of commercials. And I remember his first year, he played pretty good. Didn't they make the playoffs? That was the year the coach got COVID. That was the year.
00:20:40
Speaker
So it's like Baker's career has kind of been like recency bias, like by how bad he was after the line imploded on him. And he was getting, remember he played the whole season with a separated shoulder. Like I'm not a big Baker biologist, but I am like a lot of these quarterbacks that quote unquote suck are playing with like a broken hand or a broken foot or something. Like that's different from the commanders.
00:21:01
Speaker
absolutely had a broken hand last week for at least the last quarter and a half of that game and stayed in and like, I don't know why. I have no idea why you would leave him in, but. No idea. Right. Yeah. I mean, unless you're Ron Rivera, but I was going to say, I do know why because I know who his coach is, but, but, you know, yeah, exactly. But yeah, I think Josh does a long meandering way from Josh's acting. I like him. I think it's good. I'm more like, Josh, get your money, buddy. You know, just,
00:21:30
Speaker
It seems like Josh is able to recalibrate pretty quickly. I think part of him being a happy-go-lucky means he has a short memory, too, which can be good and bad. But he got it. I mean, he played off. I mean, no one is going to pretend he didn't play off all that opening night. It was a weird game. You see, I mean, Rodgers goes out fourth play. Everybody knows. It's like the whole offseason was Rodgers is on the Jets now.
00:21:51
Speaker
And then four plays in, he's not only out, it looks like he's out for the season and potentially out. Like you're going to have to retire. So, you know, I could understand any team.
00:22:03
Speaker
either getting like, well, we're obviously not losing this game or like, what is happening right now? Like this is insane. I kind of, I kind of can forgive. I can do I, luckily for them, I can forgive them, but like, you know, like I kind of, I kind of throw that out as a, like, if they had come out against the Raiders and looked awful, I'd be genuinely worried about Josh, but it's like, no, he just focused up the next week. He played a lot more.
00:22:27
Speaker
He played a lot smarter. And it's like, yeah, he can kind of make those adjustments. We're really lucky to have a quarterback like that. And we're lucky to have a player that is so pro buffalo instead of just like.
00:22:38
Speaker
I mean, how many people have come to Buffalo on, you know, you know, used to just be we'd have one player on a

Roster Changes and Team Performance

00:22:43
Speaker
big contract. They come here for four years. They play. They probably play. They play like half as good as they used to be. And then maybe they go somewhere else and be good again. Or maybe that was just it. We got them on their downswing, but we overpaid them to come to Buffalo. It's like we have someone starting their career here who is awesome. So that was the question builds a guy for Buffalo. You couldn't do it better. Yeah.
00:23:05
Speaker
Yeah, and I don't think that he works well, he would not work well in a more flashy market. I don't think as an LA, even though he's from California, where he's from in California is like the Ogden, to give a Rochester reference, or like Palmyra Macedon of California. It's not cool surfing California. You don't surf in California.
00:23:30
Speaker
I mean that was the big shift with the bills couple years back right like like let's get players that want to be in both represent the city. Well you know it's a similar thing. I'm not to go to another sport but I'm a Detroit Tigers fan and they've been bad the last few years but they got really good right around 2007 because they stopped.
00:23:47
Speaker
They used to give like players that were big home run hitters giant contracts just to hit 30 home runs and strikeout 250 times. Then they started signing guys that were like I will invest and I'll stay for four years and all that. And they went from being the laughingstock to a World Series contender for almost a decade. Yeah. Yeah.
00:24:06
Speaker
And the bills have done that exact, kind of on the same model. It's not necessarily like we all, I mean, I, for sure, when Tremaine Edmonds left this year, I was like, well, that contract you got for Chicago was insane. But also, you know, he's, he's just one of those people that's always around the ball. And it's like, well, look what happened. Like we seem actually more solid now without him, weirdly. And I don't think it's because he's gone. I think it's because other people have felt like we got to make up for this.
00:24:33
Speaker
Yeah, they've had a rise to the occasion. Yeah, Terrell Bernard is like, look like an animal out there. Unbelievable. Announced AFC defensive player of the week today. Think of the competition from just the Bills players, but there were other players. There was another guy.
00:24:49
Speaker
I think they had two picks on another team and another like, I forget, maybe someone from Cleveland. I can't remember, but there were a lot of good defensive performances. And I thought like he was going to compete against his own teammates because that Vanessa had, um,
00:25:06
Speaker
But Bernard, I mean, that was history making, right? That hasn't been done since Ehrlacher, I think they said. No. Yeah. Wow. I didn't know that. Yeah. Like rarefied air. Yeah. Absolutely. And let's hope he can continue it. I was actually wondering, is that just a product of teams not planning for him because they don't know him? Or are they going to start to catch on on some of his tendencies and be able to pick on a little bit? Or is this just who he is and he's a ball hawk?
00:25:33
Speaker
I feel like the schemes, the bills are playing right now because they don't blitz ever. The front four are just getting pressure that most teams can't get without some stunt blitzing and someone coming from somewhere else to take someone else's distraction off. It's allowing the linebackers to really play zone coverage and you can play zone in man at the same time where the linebackers float around.
00:26:00
Speaker
especially when you're playing these younger inexperienced quarterbacks or unfortunately Jimmy Garoppolo who's you know gets picked on a lot but can be
00:26:07
Speaker
If he throws it less than 10 yards, he's pretty good. But when he tries to go any further than that, it's like they definitely had Sam Howell's eyes locked in,

Reflections on Memorable Games

00:26:14
Speaker
right? I mean, it's sacked nine times. Bleeding his brain, yeah. And we've all been on the other side of that with quarterbacks for the Bills. Certainly, Bills fans have been on the other side of that, where, I mean, I was actually, oh my god, I can't believe this talk about blocking it out. I was at the Petermann San Diego, but, or Ally Chargers. So this is a great, or I'm a great story, that's all.
00:26:37
Speaker
overconfident. This is okay story. My buddy, I used to bartend with this guy and do comedy with him named John. And he had a friend who worked at the StubHub Center, which is where the LA Chargers were playing before SoFi was built. Yeah, he's like, my friend said I can have tickets to any game. He's like, so I thought me and a couple other people on our improv team were like,
00:26:55
Speaker
all Buffalo fans, so he's like, I thought of you guys, so I picked the Bills game, Bills chargers, 50 yard line, Buffalo Bills side, two rows up. I've ever had in my entire life, so we're there, we're like, man, this is awesome. Nothing can ruin this day. And then like, talk about watching like a cinematically bad, where you're like, you could not, special effects how bad this is going.
00:27:20
Speaker
No, you couldn't write up a script worse than that. So we stayed because we were like, these seats are so good and they were free and you know, it's the bills. Let's watch. And then Ty Taylor came in and kind of like ended up scoring like 20 points. Like book chargers fans started.
00:27:36
Speaker
shit talking us. And we were like, I can't be made fun of while we're down. You guys have put 50 up. Right. Right. Just let us leave in peace, please. I'm not in the Bronx in a Red Sox jersey yelling like big copy. Come on. Right. This is not a competition. This is.
00:27:54
Speaker
I loved how much personalized merch Nathan Peterman had. Oh my god. To get the scarves, the gloves, the shirts, the hats, everything. And the crazy thing is, as of last week, he's back on the active roster for the Bears, I think. The Bears are Broncos. Bears, yeah. He's on an active roster again. Talk about a career.
00:28:14
Speaker
I mean, he's got great YouTube clips of him doing tricks. Like, that is, nobody is more. He's stuck in that. Yeah, it's impressive. Better than I'm done. He's obviously good in the locker room, right? Like, there's something about coaches are like, this guy can help in some way, but.
00:28:31
Speaker
Right. That day I did not see, I didn't see it with, didn't pass the eye test for me. Which interception did you start making that one concrete? I think when it was when he, since the first one was like a hundred percent his fault. The second one bounced right off of the tight end's chest, if I remember, maybe a receiver's chest. And then the third one was just like, he threw it away and it got picked off. And I think that's when I was like, Oh, he's trying not to even have anyone catch it and they're still catching it.
00:29:02
Speaker
Yeah. More completions to the charters than to Bill's players. That was wild. Absolutely.
00:29:14
Speaker
What's your big tailgater, I'm sure, being a Bills fan? What's like your death row tailgate meal? You got one plate. What's going on at the tailgate? Absolutely. You've got to do the stuffed jalapenos wrapped in bacon. Those got to be there. Oh, yeah. It's usually like cream cheese, sausage wrapped in. It's a heart attack.
00:29:35
Speaker
Yeah, it's gotta be that, gotta be wings. And then like just to cool it down an Italian sub.
00:29:44
Speaker
Like one of those giant Italian subs that everybody just eats like three inches out of. Oh, yeah. And then Lebats are some kind of like light beer and then the like formaldehyde fireball whiskey. Oh, yeah. That concoction in your stomach is how you survive.
00:30:06
Speaker
that's a winning formula yeah that's how you that's how you stay warm in the stands absolutely yes absolutely i'm a big breakfast food guy at tailgates when we tailgate we're showing up at 7 30 a.m and we're there for the day so that's that's i'm here for lunch too but my i'm like i'm i'm on the grill cooking up breakfast and it's like right that's yeah that's that's amazing yeah i like that that's that's phenomenal
00:30:33
Speaker
that's amazing yeah I gotta find you guys next time we'll send our spot we're going to the Giants at Bill's game and we're going to Jets at Bill's this year. Giants Bill's is a night game right? On the night football that's where we're going it's under the light oh awesome like yeah never been to a night game so we're pumped about that nice yeah I've been to a couple and they're fun man it's uh it's definitely
00:30:59
Speaker
When they're on primetime TV too, there's just like a feeling of like, oh man, this is an event. Like, right? Yeah. No, no other games like this is it. This is the game. Yeah. I'm excited. It'll be fun. Absolutely. Very cool. Um, so yeah. Um, is there anything else like looking at

Season Hopes and Predictions

00:31:16
Speaker
this season? So going in, like you're right. We kind of talked about it a second ago. Week one, everybody pooped their pants. Josh Allen, Bill's mafia included. Yeah.
00:31:27
Speaker
Everybody, yes, everybody just shat their pants. And then obviously the last two weeks have looked pretty good. Like what are you hoping to see kind of moving forward? What is your temperature on where the team's at right now? You know, I think things will even out a little more. I don't think every game is going to be a 25 to 30 point blowout, but I do think that
00:31:51
Speaker
The defense looks really stout right now. It looks like they have that bend, don't break. It's like such a cliche, but they also seem like they're willing to sacrifice letting the running backs get a little, you know, get some yardage, but force third down and stop them on third down and also force bad passes. So my hope is that the defense stays consistent all year.
00:32:13
Speaker
because i'm not worried about the offense we have i think james cook is the running back that the bills have needed for a long time that just falls forward even when it's not majestic or it's not a 17-yard run he still falls forward so it's a yard and it's right i mean that was my big frustration as much as i like sickle terry and i like the boss too it was like
00:32:33
Speaker
They just, so much east and west, and obviously I'm not a professional athlete, God knows, but it's like, it's just, I like those, those running backs that just fall forward. I, such a simple thing, but it's like, I'll take a yard over three, minus two or three, obviously. Yeah. So I, and I hope we stay just under the, I hope we keep flying slightly under the radar. I mean, I know this is the game of the week, but like, I hope that people keep thinking those
00:33:03
Speaker
three to four teams better than us in the AFC and five or six teams better than us in the NFL. Cause that's where the bills live. That's their comfort. Like underrated always overrated never works for us. That's just not, it's a Buffalo thing. It's never going to work being overrated.
00:33:21
Speaker
go in with a chip on your shoulder, something to prove. Yeah. 2021 was the last time we were there. Like, 2021 was the last time we were there. Like, 2021 was the last time we were there. Like, 2021 was the last time we were there. Like, 2021 was the last time we were there. Like, 2021 was the last time we were there. Like, 2021 was the last time we were there. Like, 2021 was the last time we were there. Like, 2021 was the last time we were there. Like, 2021 was the last time we were there. Like, 2021 was the last time we were there. Like,
00:33:50
Speaker
can't get off the field and can't even on 30. Teams were doing to the Bills what Josh Allen does is maddening, which is like, could be third and two, could be third and 12. He's going to get those yards. And he can run for him or throw for him or do some crazy thing. And I get it. We've all watched as the Bills have ever happened where you're like, god, we keep getting to third down. Just come on. But yeah.
00:34:15
Speaker
Yeah, this defense without Von Miller right now, too. I'm excited to plug that guy in and see what it looks like. I completely agree. But man, what a gift his recruitment of Leonard Floyd was. And also, I think Greg Russo's complete blossoming this year. Kind of started last year, but this year has been like, he's a menace. I think that's all Von Miller. I mean, I think that's a lot of Von Miller coaching.
00:34:40
Speaker
And that was my hope with Rousseau. I was like, man, someone like Von Miller teaching, I mean, Rousseau is huge, but he's got Von Miller's body of just like their skinny defensive trushers, which is like so long. Yeah. Just so long. He's like a bigger Von Miller. It's like, come on, Von, teach him your tricks. Just install that legacy. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah.
00:35:04
Speaker
Definitely a lot to be excited about. Absolutely.

Conclusion and Tommy's Future Appearances

00:35:08
Speaker
Yeah, we can't wait to keep watching this year. Hell yeah. Well, great, man. Well, we absolutely appreciate your time. It's been super fun. And if, hey, who knows, maybe we could catch up at a Bill's game at some point. But we'd love to give you a chance to kind of plug what's going on. If you have any place people can find you, if you're out and about, what would you like people to know about you?
00:35:32
Speaker
You can catch me 3 p.m. most days on the break room through new rock stars on their YouTube channel. I have a show in Rochester, ways away, December 23rd at the Carlson Christmas Comedy Show. And other than that, I don't know, see me on the streets. Catch me on the streets, bro. Make sure you say Go Bells back to time. Say Go Bells are all head-bucking, yeah.
00:35:58
Speaker
Awesome. Well, hey, man, we appreciate you. Thank you so much. And yeah, go Bills. Go Bills.
