Oh, what's going on, everybody? You're listening to the Let's Go Buffalo podcast, your favorite podcast for all things bills and sabers with one singular pal this evening.
00:00:47
Speaker
It is just me. It is just I. It is just Nigel. No Tom and Jake this evening. So I hope that's going to be all right with you folks. If not, go ahead and shut it off. I'm still going to go for it anyway. You know the drill, folks. Don't forget to follow the socials. You can find us on all of them. That's Instagram X, TikTok, YouTube, you name it. We're on it. You can find us with the handle at let's go buff pod. That is buff with two F's and we do not need to get her around the horn and say hello to the fellows because you're looking at the one pal, but I'll still snap a beverage with y

'all. Here we go. Ready Friday vibes folks. It's five o'clock where I am. Three, two, one.
00:01:33
Speaker
Yes, I'm cheating again a little bit. I am drinking another spin drift. This is the last one though. So next week I gotta be back on the beer. Folks, thanks so much for catching up with us, hanging out with us whenever you're listening to this. We appreciate you. I am super stoked and I'm gonna move my camera down a little bit because I have an awesome new bill shirt that I am super, super, super, super stoked on. So if anyone's not familiar with the brand Chubbies, you should be. No, we are not endorsed, but you can bet your ass I'm going to tag them in this video at some point. But you got all sorts of great Buffalo things. It's a really, really, really great lightweight stretchy polo. um If you're a huge dork that golfs, this is probably a great shirt for that. I wouldn't know because I have a life
00:02:21
Speaker
Um, but yeah, man, just a really, really, really great shirt. Um, you got all sorts of Buffalo related things. I'm doing, this is weird because I'm looking at myself in the camera. I'm not going to point cause I'm gonna screw it up. You got snow shovels in the snow. You got, damn it. I did it wrong. Chicken wings that are on fire. You got a football here, the AFC logo, the Bill's logo here, and then somewhere on here.
00:02:46
Speaker
You can't quite see it. Yeah, you've got oh my god, this is so weird. You've got the folding tables and stuff over here So you can only see that if you're on youtube, but she'll be says a killer killer killer bills polo That's out right now. And it is awesome. Couldn't wait to wear her for the pod But that's enough fashion advice from nige.

Savers Game Recaps

00:03:05
Speaker
Let's get into the meat of it folks We're going to start with the savers since the last podcast. The savers are one in one, which feels crazy because it's been a minute since we podcasted the bills or excuse me, the savers, the gaps right now between the games are outrageous. It's got to be because they started those two games in Prague way before everybody else was playing. So they're just trying to get the games to be somewhat the same. But yeah, huge gaps between games right now.
00:03:30
Speaker
But one and one since the last podcast we beat detroit five three Honestly, it was a really solid game all the way around. I thought finally good to see the power play get going a little bit um That power play goal was scored by jason zucker shout out to jason zucker. He's been playing his absolute Ass off man great two-way game right now really like what i'm seeing from jason zucker um um But yeah, I mean the you know that detroit game I just felt like we had them on their heels for most of the game. um That was a goalie alliance for them that had been absolutely unbelievable in the couple games prior, like I believe a shutout and then allowing one or two goals in one game and that's it. um His numbers have been crazy on the year and putting up five goals on him was really, really awesome.
00:04:15
Speaker
Good for the boys. um On the other end of the ice, UPL played a really solid game, I thought. um Things got a little bit tense towards the end. We almost gave up what probably would have been the tying goal. It was very close, but defense held strong. UPL stood on his head, um and we ended up pulling out the dub there. A couple other great notes for that game.

Player Spotlights

00:04:34
Speaker
Tage Thompson looks like he is absolutely goddamn back, and he it is it is beautiful.
00:04:39
Speaker
that guy when he is on man and that leads me to believe that he definitely had some issues with that risk last year um well into later in the season because he just didn't look like this and he he seems to be back last i checked he was tied for first in goals i'm sure that isn't the case anymore since it's been so long since he's played um but tage seems to be back and that's huge for the offense um this is kind of a small thing but it could matter hockey's weird man and And the way the players, you know, get on the right track or get off the right track to just little dumb things.
00:05:12
Speaker
did have Jack Queen score that empty net goal. It was an absolute, just desperation, clear attempt in what was a crazy end of game moment. But maybe that's just enough to sort of, you know, open the floodgates a little bit for him. I think the success of this team this year, you know, regardless of what everybody else does, and we're seeing great things from guys like McLeod and Zucker and, you know, ah Peyton Krabs looks great. Jordan Greenway looks great.
00:05:37
Speaker
But you're going to hear it from me. um And I don't know if i'm I'm sure I'm not the first one to say this, but if Jack Quinn and Dylan Cousins don't get going, this team isn't going to make it. It's not going to be a playoff team. So hopefully we see some things that, you know, like that that will hopefully get this team going a little bit in the right direction, particularly in terms of those two.
00:05:57
Speaker
We're going to talk a little bit more about those two again in a minute.

Game Analysis: Savers vs Panthers

00:06:00
Speaker
um But on to the next game, the Panthers game got spanked five to two. I want to read you the text exchange between Jake and I before this game, because I think it's worth I think it's worth bringing up. So I texted Jake about, you know, afternoon um on the day of that game. And I said, Chucker, Barkov and Bob all back in tonight for the Sabres.
00:06:22
Speaker
I think we have a shot. I have to imagine that Florida is going to come out swinging hard, dude. Probably looking to put us in our place after that last W. And then what I think is probably after the first period of that game, Jake sent me a sad face and said, agreed. Just turned it on. Looks like you were correct.
00:06:40
Speaker
Um, listen, there were honestly moments in that game that I felt like we did not look out of place. There was a bit there where it was tied. We were giving them all they can handle. It looked like a decent game until we did the dumb shit, dude. There was too many self-inflicted mistakes. Looking at you, Darlene, I believe it was Florida's second goal. What the hell are you doing?
00:07:04
Speaker
Going behind the net when there is already a defenseman behind the net attacking the guy on the puck. I think it was power He was doing great. What does Dollyn do completely leaves the guy in the middle for Florida alone?
00:07:19
Speaker
goes to try and help power loses the puck battle and it is an easy dumb no problem one-timer goal for florida shit like that lost us that game and lindy said so afterwards um there were some dumb ass penalties as well not all of them um i think it was yokies yoki haru's penalty um maybe the second penalty in the game something like that i believe he got an interference call that was absolute horseshit. And I do believe that they scored on that power play as well, Florida. So, you know, like dumb shit like that, you can't help. But I mean, you can't invite opportunities for a team like Florida. It's the defending Stanley Cup champions. And I just talked about the players that you know, they had back that mean a lot to that team. You're talking about the captain, an incredibly skilled forward and the fastest goalie to 400 wins ever or whatever.
00:08:09
Speaker
You know, so you can't give an opportunity to a team like that, especially one as well coached is that Florida team. They're so defensively strong and they're so good at attacking and transition. Paul Maurice has got that team coached up so well.
00:08:23
Speaker
And I mean, hopefully the Sabres learn the lesson. You just can't you can't have that many self-inflicted wounds against a team like Florida, or you're going to lose five to two every single time. So again, some good moments with that game, like really truly some some absolute positives to take away. But overall, man, just just not enough. Just not enough. um And dumb shit that we lost the game on. so It's our fault. Hopefully, you know, I would assume there was a solid backscape from Lindy at the following practice for that. But who knows, man? So hopefully we can clean some of the in self-inflicted stuff up.

Line Changes & Strategy

00:08:58
Speaker
Just some general notes for the savers. We're looking at some line changes that are going to be coming. Lindy rough the other day in practice, put together some new lines. um And I think they're going to be positive. And honestly, I think the whole reason for the changes is to hopefully get Kuzi and Quinn are going a little bit. so
00:09:16
Speaker
Going into the game tonight against the Islanders, which is going to start very soon here um We're looking at and we're going from left to right line 1 through 4 Patirca Tomer tuck line 1 line 2 is greener McLeod and cousins Greenway McLeod cousins line 3 right now Zucker Krebs and Quinn and And then the other one, right the fourth line right now, Malinston, Lafferty, and then NAK with Kulik rotating in their and practices. I'm going to tell you all right now, I absolutely love these moves. Cousins played wing at the at the Worlds just recently, this past offseason, and had like 10 goals in eight games or eight goals in 10 games, something crazy like that. His numbers were nuts, and he played the wing in that tournament. So I think this is awesome.
00:10:04
Speaker
um You could I here's the thing that's a bummer. There's a lot of negatives that are getting highlighted right now. And that's that. OK, because this doesn't look like he can play in the center and you know, Quinn's getting, you know, put down to the third line or demoted down to the third line. Can we take a second and maybe acknowledge the fact that Ryan McLeod has played his absolute ass off and deserves this promotion to the second line maybe we're sitting on a second line center diamond in the rough and we had no idea man but let's not pretend the McLeod hasn't looked awesome this year along with Greenway so I'm totally okay right now with those two guys getting a bump up to the second line I think a line of Greenway McLeod cousins given the way Greenway is playing right now could be
00:10:46
Speaker
Very potent. You got three very fast, very strong guys on that line. So that's super interesting to me. And then not for nothing. I already gave Zuckerson flowers. But I'm loving Peyton Krebs getting this little opportunity here, this little promotion. I think it's super well deserved. He's been busting his ass as well and has looked great. um And I don't look at it as a punishment for Quinn to be on that right wing there. I think this is also a pretty solid looking line. um So i'm I'm super intrigued.
00:11:16
Speaker
The one thing that makes me a little bit nervous right now, and I would imagine he's probably going to end up being scratched again, which I don't love because it it probably feels a little bit like a punishment for him. And it's not a deserved one, but I don't like Kool-Eek rotating in on that fourth line right wing. He's not a bottom six style player um on the flip side of that.
00:11:37
Speaker
I don't know where you put them outside of that right now. Greenway deserves to be in the top six, where he is with McLeod and Cousins. Him and McLeod have developed some good chemistry so far, so I like not splitting those two guys up. um it's It's a bit of a weird situation right now. Kulik honestly feels like kind of an odd man out, but We'll see what goes on with that. I'm going to withhold judgment on that because I want to see how it all absolutely or actually

Upcoming Games Preview

00:12:00
Speaker
shakes out. But all in all, folks, what do I know? I'm just an idiot screaming into a microphone, but I absolutely love this move by Lindy. I think it's a great veteran coaching move. I think it gives other guys looks that they deserve. And I think it shakes things up just enough for a guy like Cousins, where I think he could absolutely flourish. um I feel pretty confident. I'm going to put some money down on Cousins to score tonight. I really like the idea of him
00:12:23
Speaker
on this line with McLeod and Greenway with McLeod centering so two thumbs way way up from there from me excuse me on that right now um next couple games that you'll see from the Sabres here playing tonight Friday November 1st at 7 p.m eastern time should beat the absolute wheels off these guys. They are middling just like us in terms of their record. um Again, I give us a little bit of grace with our record given those two games in Prague. I think those were tough. So we've got two more losses in there that I think we honestly deserve. Two more losses than I think we deserve. um But this IELTS team doesn't look great right now. They're struggling. Should beat the piss out of those guys.
00:13:02
Speaker
Detroit again tomorrow Saturday the 2nd at 7 p.m. Eastern time looking for a rinse and repeat of that first game keep the shot totals high light up Lions just do exactly what you did before you've already got the blueprint on how to beat them and then Tuesday we play Ottawa for the first time this season at 7 p.m.
00:13:22
Speaker
Eastern time This is gonna be a man. im I'm predicting a win here. I'm predicting a nice little win I'd like to see a nice little three-game win streak here with these next three games. That would be amazing um This sense team is one that is in the same bucket as us meaning hasn't been great the last several years and is supposed to be and I put it in air quotes taking that step and just as simply not done it yet, so um If the Sabres are looking to be viewed as a team, that's to be taken seriously and is going to start to you know make a change with this organization and the absolute despair that we've been through the last 13 years, this is a team that you need to be. It shows that you have taken the step beyond these guys and you're no longer in this bucket. So I think this is a really important benchmark win for this team. And then the game after that, I didn't put it
00:14:13
Speaker
I'm writing on here um because I think we'll have a pod before that game. But um you want to stack some wins against these three teams here, Isles, Detroit, and Sens, because that next game is against the Rangers. So that's an absolute wagon of a team. um Yeah, you want you want to go into there feeling good. A nice little win streak would be great. Hell, I would even take a two game win streak going into that.
00:14:35
Speaker
But please, for the love of God, don't lose three straight to three teams that you should be and then go into New York, because that is going to suck. I think right now that's all I've got on our wonderful savers here. I'm going to take a quick swig.
00:14:54
Speaker
ah Yes. All right.

Bills' Offensive Highlights

00:14:57
Speaker
The bills, baby. The bills defeated the Seattle Seahawks this past weekend. 31 10 in Seattle at Lumen Field. And my note right here says, I mean, dot, dot, dot, dot, dot. What was there not to like?
00:15:14
Speaker
I'm sure you could find a couple things if you put a fine-tooth comb through it But I absolutely loved the way this team looked on both sides of the ball Particularly offensively. Let's get into it Josh Allen dog 24 for 34 for a 71% completion rate to passing touchdowns one int he did finally break the int streak which is a bummer but the int was not his fault coupe looked like he slipped at the top of the route and And honestly, it looked to me like Josh saw that and tried to take some edge off that ball, tried to take the heat off, but he was just too far through in his passing motion. Couldn't get off the ball. Whatever doesn't matter. I'm not going to fault him for it too much. Um, he ended the day with a passer rating of 102.9 and you take that 10 times out of 10. He also added 25 yards on seven rushes, uh, which is just a little bit under four yards per carry.
00:16:07
Speaker
Josh Allen baby back to looking like he did weeks one and two good smart decisions and when I say good smart decisions I mean once again taking what the defense is giving him and what I mean specifically by that being okay with checking down the ball taking the easy dump offs to guys like James Cook Guys like Khalil Shakir, we're going to talk about both of those guys more. But talking about Josh right now, that willingness to take the easy shit and let your athletes cook seems to be the difference between Josh Allen looking like an MVP candidate and Josh Allen looking like he's regressing back to rookie year, you know sophomore year in the league, Josh Allen.
00:16:50
Speaker
That difference in Josh could legitimately be the difference. And I i don't say this to, you know, sound like I'm just spouting off nonsense here, but Josh Allen playing in that style, that willingness to take the short easy stuff could legitimately be the difference between this team winning a Super Bowl and not winning a Super Bowl.
00:17:09
Speaker
it is just so so so so so different the way this offense looks when he's willing to take that stuff that short stuff easy stuff you know as long as he's not always putting on the cape and don't get me wrong he does still put on the cape but he's not always trying to put it on when he takes the check downs and puts on the cape when necessary it is a different josh alan and dare i say Borderline unbeatable. In addition to those checkdowns, and some absolute seams, or excuse me, seeds up the seams. Some really, really unreal deep passes to Khalil Shakir, to Dawson Knox, Dalton Kincaid. I mean, he let it rip when he need to. But man, this Josh Allen right now, woo! Absolutely love what I'm seeing, man. He's unreal right now. His last two games, he looks like he's getting back to weeks one and two.
00:18:03
Speaker
james cook dog 17 russians for 111 rushing yards total a six and a half yard average hello that's crazy two rushing touchdowns then he also added three receptions for 22 yards my god jimmy cook is absolutely shredding guys right now Not only is he shredding guys, but your boy is playing with some absolute pop in his pads right now. It is awesome to see. And it is it's it's so nice because you have to play with a little bit of edge as a running back in this league. I know that that's not his primary style. But James Cook, man, he's a slasher, he's a dasher. But man, lowering the head or excuse me, not lowering leading with the crown.
00:18:50
Speaker
But lowering the pads and ripping the helmet off that defender as he scored his second rushing touchdown against Seattle. I mean, dude, if that didn't get you fired up, I check your pulse. I guess you might be on your way out. I don't know. That was unreal. It was awesome. um And a James Cook that is playing the way he is right now with a little bit of edge is super dangerous, man. One thing I want to talk about with this rushing game Dude, major, major shift to the zone rushing scheme. Now, if you're not familiar with what a zone rushing scheme is, typically football teams run or operate out of one or two different schemes, either a gap scheme or a zone scheme. A gap scheme um is really dependent. it It basically dictates the specific gap that the ball carrier is supposed to go to. If you're not familiar with the gaps, if you're looking at the center from the quarterback's position,
00:19:43
Speaker
And it doesn't matter which side you go to. It's the same either side. But that first gap in between the center and the guard is the A gap. The gap in between the guard and the tackle is the B gap. And then anything outside that tackle is the C gap. If there's a tight end there, outside of the tight end is going to be the D gap. You get the you get the picture, right? You know your alphabet.
00:20:02
Speaker
So that's the way the gaps work. A gap running scheme is designed to attack one of those specific gaps. A zone running scheme, which is what the bills are doing right now, is more adapted or more designed, excuse me, to sort of get to an area and then your running back needs to read or a zone rather. Your running back needs to, based on what he's seeing with his blockers and the defenders, choose a general area, general lane, general zone,
00:20:28
Speaker
to cut the ball up and start taking off there. So the gap scheme has a specific spot it's supposed to go to. The zone scheme has a little bit more of a gray area, and and ah a rough zone that the ball carrier is supposed to get to. And then based on what he's seeing from his blockers in that zone, make a decision on a lane to cut up and try to pick up some yards there.
00:20:49
Speaker
Right now this offensive line. Oh my god the zone running scheme right now is poetry in motion with these guys the communication seems to be there and Man, oh man these guys this offensive line that we have folks an unbelievable group of athletes considering how large these guys are the quickness with which some of these guys are able to get up to the second level to the linebackers and even you know safeties that has dropped down i mean it's it's unreal man and with jimmy cook playing with the vision that he's playing with right now it is a match made in heaven heaven between james cook and this offensive line and then oh man the running game is an absolute strength of this team right now which is killer now
00:21:34
Speaker
Tough to take anything away from James Cook, and that's not what I mean to sound like I'm doing. That being said, I see still am itching to see a little bit more Ray Davis. I thought given the way he played that game where James Cook did not play, man, I just thought he deserved a little bit more going forward. And I still think it's, I don't know, it's hard, man, because with James Cook playing the way he is right now,
00:21:57
Speaker
You don't want to like look to take touches away from him. But man, like I still think there's that ability to be even more of a one-two punch with those two. I don't know. There's an argument to be said that if it's not broken, don't try and fix it, which maybe could be the case right now. But Ray Davis, man, still playing absolutely outside of his mind. um Still played great that game when the touches he did get capitalized on every opportunity. The rushing game is a problem right now.

Key Performances

00:22:24
Speaker
Khalil Shakir, dog, putting this or putting himself on the goddamn map, dude, this past game, nine receptions for 107 yards. That is just under 12 yards per reception. Folks, we're going to have a chat about Khalil Shakir right now, because frankly, this dude is just simply not being talked about enough right now. His catch percentage right now, absolutely off the wall. First in the league. Let's talk about some numbers here.
00:22:54
Speaker
14th in the receptions with 36 solid first and drops with a huge goose egg zero he is fourth in yards after catch per reception with 8.3 his passer rating when targeted and is 132.1 which is fifth in the league Folks, this is the one for me. This this is nuts. And this is not because it's something that we haven't had on this team in for ever. Khalil Shakir's average depth of target is three point six yards, which is eighty third in the league, dude. Eighty third in the league. That is unbelievable for him to be putting up the numbers that he is, particularly his yak yardage when he's being targeted that shallow.
00:23:46
Speaker
Guys, Khalil Shakir is a legit and I mean legit as hell. slot weapon for this football team. He is going to be regarded as an elite slot weapon before too long here. His catch reception is is is and is unbelievable right now. he's got He's missed one catch this year, and it was marked as an uncatchable ball. It didn't even count as a drop. Khalil Shakir, folks, we are fortunate. Shout out Brandon Bean for scooping this guy in the fifth round. Can't believe
00:24:19
Speaker
can't believe the league let this guy go to the fifth round and go to the bills. Absolutely unbelievable. Khalil Shakir is turning into a dominant player right before our eyes and it is awesome because it looks like he could very well end up being the safety blanket for Josh Allen going forward. Keon Coleman, dog, five catches for 70 yards. That's about 14 yards per reception. An unreal tuddy over Reek Wullen. And I mean, get Skyed, Reek. Let's talk about that play for a minute. Go back to the play prior to to the touchdown. Josh Allen goes at Keon Coleman, covered by Tariq Wullen on the opposite side of the end zone.
00:25:00
Speaker
Tariq Wolin, or excuse me, Rique Wolin, goes by Rique now. Rique Wolin gets the better of Keyon Coleman, makes a great defensive play. And then when the play is over, walks back to the huddle, talking all of that shit. And I mean all of that shit.
00:25:17
Speaker
Keon Coleman very quietly walks back to the huddle goes about his business the next play baby almost the exact same thing or might have been two plays later it might have been a rushing play in there can't remember doesn't matter the next passing play opposite side of the end zone almost the exact same play Josh Allen throws up a beautiful fade ball for Keon Coleman covered once again by Reek Wolin what does Keon do goes up with one hand rips it away from Reek Looks at him says a couple words wish I knew what they were then gives him a friendly little pat on the head Good job son because now I'm your father Get absolutely fucked read take your shit back. Oh my god. That was so satisfying You're gonna talk all that game and they get absolutely big docked See you, dude
00:26:04
Speaker
Here's the cool thing about that too. If you were going to select probably one of the better, arguably the best, you can make a case that he's the best, like physically built cornerback to go up against a guy like Keon Coleman. You could make a case that the best guy for that job is Reek Wollen. For Keon Coleman to absolutely sky him like that, rip that ball away, and then give him a sweet little pat on the head. Good job, son.
00:26:32
Speaker
damn dude Keon Coleman is looking like he could be an absolute problem not only he himself but the chemistry that he is developing with Josh Allen I mean let's not sit here and act like for a moment that Josh Allen doesn't have complete trust when he throws that ball to Keon Coleman he is asking a lot of him with some of these contested catches and doesn't give a shit who's covering him dude if this is what it seems like is going on right now if Keon's one-on-one there's a real good chance he's going to get a target because he's he's just big dogging guys right now. It's awesome. Really, really, really,

Defensive & Special Teams Praise

00:27:09
Speaker
really great game from those two wide receivers in particular. A couple quick other shout outs here. Dawson Knox, two receptions for 50 yard. They were both dots from Josh Allen. Kincaid, four receptions for 31 yard and an absolute seed of a reception from 17 for a touchdown in the back of the end zone.
00:27:28
Speaker
That was absolutely stunning. Folks, the offense looked absolutely unreal. One thing I want to point out here, social media this week revealed a lot of people freaking out, oh my God, where's Mary Cooper? Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Folks, chill.
00:27:44
Speaker
Okay. It was week one. Yes. He had a couple of great catches and the touchdown. That was an outlier, right? That doesn't happen normally. Okay. He, did he got two targets. One was for the INT, slipped on the route, whatever, let it go. Okay. Let it go. The one target he had it was only for three yards. It is okay. At the very least teams have to pay attention to Amari Cooper and look at what it's doing for Khalil Shakir, for Dalton Kincaid, for Keon Coleman.
00:28:12
Speaker
Amari Cooper is helping this team, even if he's not showing up in the box score. Relax. The chemistry with Josh will get there. He'll get his targets. Chill. It's going to be all good. And also, we hung up 41 points. Stop trying to find faults in this football team. Stop it. Enjoy the ride. Enjoy the fact that we went up into what is widely considered one of the toughest away stadiums in the NFL. Turned it into essentially a home game, if you ask Gino Smith.
00:28:42
Speaker
and hung up 31 points. Relax. Enjoy it. Let's talk defensively on this ah for a second in that game. Really great game defensively. I thought particularly from the front seven, man oh man oh man oh man. We talked for a while about how we were worried about um Kenneth Walker being able to gash this team. Nope. See ya. Who cares barely did anything Barely heard his name all game was a complete and utter Phantom. I mean who cares on real game from Greg Roussel

Greg Ruzzo, that first drive, batting down two balls like that. My God, man. Greg Ruzzo played an unreal game, not a ton showing up in the box score, but just impacted, man. He impacts the football game, whether it shows up in the box score or not. Watch some film folks. He's in that backfield. He's putting pressure on the quarterback and oh yeah, he's freaking a hundred feet tall.
00:29:39
Speaker
Let this guy work. He's crushing it. Unreal athleticism and open field tackles at times from Russell Douglas and Taryn Johnson. You guys, we are so spoiled with Benford, Russell Douglas and Taryn Johnson. The fact that we have three cornerbacks right there that are willing to come up and lay the freaking lumber on a running back, dude, come on.
00:29:59
Speaker
I know we miss Trey White. I miss Trey White too, man. And Trey White was an all pro as a coverage cornerback and is far better in coverage than any of those three guys I just mentioned. But man, oh man, Trey White never came up and put a lick on a guy.
00:30:14
Speaker
If there was a way for Trey, wait to avoid contact, he was going to do it. I'm sorry, but it's the truth. These guys, man, they will run down a running back in the backfield and make an athletic open field tackle. It's freaking awesome. And we're super fortunate with Taryn Johnson in particular, my God, you guys, he impacted Taryn Johnson has on a football game.
00:30:34
Speaker
Whoo, man. We're super lucky. We're super lucky. I just don't know if it gets talked about enough. And I know we talk about on this podcast not a lot, but I just don't know that it's enough. The way he impacts the running game and then can a erase, you know, your slot receiver or ah or your really good tight end.
00:30:54
Speaker
Diamond in the rough, dude. Worth every dime. For my money, the absolute best nickel corner in the league deserved to set the market the way he did. um Dude, Gino was miserable this game. Way to keep the cool on the defensive side. Those guys were getting chippy. They were getting pissy. um you know And I get it. We had a lot of shit go our way that game, folks. Let's not pretend that we didn't. okay I don't want to hear any more Bills fans talking about we never get the calls. We got a lot of calls in that game.
00:31:23
Speaker
We really, really, really, really did. You know, it was pissy throwing the balls at, you know, Duan Smoot's head, you know, Duan Smoot joking around trying to flop, but grateful that he didn't retaliate, you know, stupid personal, personal files and stuff like that. So it's. um I'm just grateful for that. Everybody was able to keep their cool. That's a big one for me. Um, shout out Bill's mouth. Yeah. I know I just talked about it, but Gino Smith, man. I mean, he said it felt like an away game at times for that to happen in Seattle, dude, quote unquote 12th man.
00:31:56
Speaker
Seattle, you're weak. Fan base is weak. I don't want to hear about that 12th man ever again. Bill's mouth, he is the best fan base in the NFL. Can't change my mind. And then one more fun note here. Shout out for the big man, INT against Seattle. Casey Toohill was able to go up and get a touch on that ball. And then Austin Johnson came down with the pick. Love me a big man interception.
00:32:18
Speaker
That is always, always super fun. And then shout out to the special teams, some good puns from Tyler batt or excuse me, from Sam Martin. Tyler Bass perfect on the game, went four for four in his extra points and hit his one field goal um this week. ah The other guy that was signed to the practice squad to have her sick or whatever his name was already gone. The team seems to dig the way that Tyler Bass has responded. Not for nothing. He hasn't had to do a ton, but he's been perfect since they signed that guy. So maybe they think that's enough. I guess we'll see here. But an all-around great great great Complimentary win for the bills against Seattle.

Game Preview: Bills vs Dolphins

00:32:54
Speaker
Love to see it Let's move on to the next game This Sunday the bills will take on the Miami Dolphins at 1 p.m. Eastern time in Orchard Park, New York Folks, I'm gonna come out and say right off the hop here. We cannot get cocky
00:33:16
Speaker
cannot get cocky. Let's not pretend that suddenly Miami's offense is not super, or at least has the potential to be super potent because it does. Cannot get cocky. This is a desperate Finns team right now. Desperate Finns team. Do you have any idea how big of a win this would be for them? And check this out, folks. You know there you have your you have your teams that are first in their divisions that are in the the top spots for wild card contention right now. But oh, man.
00:33:45
Speaker
That the middle of the pack right now, there are so many teams that have terrible records that are going to end up getting those wild card spots. It's just going to be a matter of who can clean up their shit first. It very well could be this Finns team. Don't let them get right against you.
00:34:03
Speaker
It's a desperate fans team right now. They need this win, like you and I need oxygen right now, and they're going to come out hair on fire. I'm sure of it. I'm sure of it. OK, I'm nervous about this game. I really am. I know that I know that they just lost to Arizona, but we have to stop pretending that Arizona is some terrible team right now. Arizona is not a terrible team. Arizona is a good football team. Yes, they looked terrible when they didn't have to, the Dolphins team.
00:34:32
Speaker
But the moment they got him back, I mean the moment, it looks like a completely different team. And now he's one week further coming back from the concussion. That's one more week of practice reps, one more week of reestablishing um um chemistry with Jalen Waddle and Tyreek Hill, who let me remind you, are about 10 times faster than anybody we have on the football field.
00:34:55
Speaker
Okay. You have to do your 1 11th defensively. and Okay. Two was still a good last week. Okay. So some more keys here. Keep the cap on them. Same as always. You got to keep the, keep the cap on Tyreke and Jalen model. Don't let those guys get behind you because if they do to what is going to throw them a beautiful ball and you are going to look stupid because it will go for a 70 yard touchdown.
00:35:19
Speaker
You need to make sure that you would keep executing here or rather keep forcing Miami to execute. The way that Miami wants to win is to have, you know,
00:35:30
Speaker
drives that are three plays long and went for 80 yards. That's how they want to win football games. If you force Miami to put together 10 12 play drives, they're going to fuck up. They're not built for sustained long drives or at least not a lot of them. Take away the first read to was throwing to his first read 70 percent of the time this season. Take it away. OK, you have to know where that first read is going to be. Nine times out of 10, it's going to be Tyreek Hill.
00:35:59
Speaker
OK, and in those situations, you have to be able to at least get a hand in their defensive line, arms up on this guy. Chances are with our pass rush, which isn't known for getting there's crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy quick. OK, sacks are probably going to be a thing, a non-existent thing this week. Get be OK with that. OK, be OK with that. It's not the end of the world till it gets it out in under two and a half seconds. A lot.
00:36:26
Speaker
Super difficult to get home there, but get your arms up, knock those balls down because if they're if he's getting the ball out in under two and a half seconds, I know it's still Tyree kill. I know it's Jalen Waddle, but that ball isn't that far down the field. It's not going to be a crazy arc on that throw. Get your arms up, bat some of those balls down and then, you know, folks, we got to be prepared to concede some yards in the run game. That's the way this bill's defense is designed. OK, you're never going to put three linebackers out there. It's just not going to happen.
00:36:54
Speaker
You're never going to see them willingly or, or seek to take off Taryn Johnson. Okay. Chances are we'll concede some be okay with it. Okay. It should be, it should be okay. Again, if you know, if they break a big run, you just got to get to the next drive and put the cap back on it. Okay. Short memories for the defense for this football game. And you're going to come out with another dove. You just got to do your job. Don't get lost in the hype. Don't get caught in the desperation from Miami. It's going to be all good.
00:37:22
Speaker
OK, but those keys defensively, those are going to be the ones offensively. We just need Josh to keep doing more of the same. Be willing to take those three yard shots to James Cook and Khalil Shakir and let those guys work. Let them get the yards after catch and then keep the running game going, man. This running game right now is opening up so much in the passing game, particularly when it comes to play action. josha Josh Jones, Josh Jones passer rating off play action against Seattle was like 130 something.
00:37:53
Speaker
We love that. Keep that going. okay And you keep that going by establishing that run game early and often. So I'm hoping to see us get back to that. Folks, you know we with that there it is. we'veve've We've laid it out here, broke it down a little bit. ah Some score predictions here for this Bills game. I do have them from the guys. So we'll start with Tom. Tom is predicting 27-24 Bills dub. Jake is predicting 24-20 Bills dub.
00:38:24
Speaker
Please don't hate me. This feels like a bit of a trap game for the bills. It really does. You know, divisional games are weird. Divisional games are super weird, and they're weird because there's too much familiarity with everybody.
00:38:36
Speaker
I've got the bills dropping this one 3428. Now, I'll also say, to piggyback off that, in the long run, if we lose on Sunday, I don't really think it's going to matter that much. Because I think the bills beyond that game will continue to stack wins. And I'm not positive that Miami's going to. But this does feel like a trap game. Trust me, folks, you know how I am. I desperately hope I'm wrong. I would love to come back and say, oh, boy, was I wrong. Love that I was wrong.
00:39:04
Speaker
but ah Call me jaded. I don't know. This just feels like a ah this feels prime for a bills drop here for for a bills lost to me. So again, hopefully I'm wrong here, but I'm saying 3428 things. i'm I'm picturing that offense getting hot. um Bill's offense will probably still be hot, but I don't know. I don't feel great about this one and in the sense that I wish that I did or in the way that I wish that I did.
00:39:28
Speaker
So, but folks, there we go. It's all out there. if if you can If you wouldn't mind sharing this podcast with friends, family, anybody that you think might enjoy the podcast, we appreciate you all. And with that, I am going to you take off. Folks, go Bills. We'll catch up with you next time.
