Buffalo Sabres Performance Analysis

00:02:06
Speaker
Uh, pal, let's, let's get into, let's just dive in. You mentioned the tragedy that is being a Buffalo sports fan. So let's dive into my beer before you do this. Oh my, oh my God. I'm sorry. Yeah, of course. of course i do I didn't have a clicker this week. So I got ahead of myself on clicky. Yeah. I'm just still, I'm still on my little sober October, uh, little stent here. So I'm still drinking another athletic beer, um, brewing company. And it's good. I really like these. These are going to be in the rotation when I'm looking for that kind of thing. So.
00:02:36
Speaker
Scratches the itch, you know I'm so embarrassed. I skipped right over you for your for your beer. I'm embarrassed for you So I have egg all over my face speaking up. Let's talk about the savers And they just you know like cute them up for you Exactly. Tom, did you catch any of the scores or anything like that? ah I was watching. I was following along on my phone. It was a busy week. um I did catch. I was able to turn on a little bit of um the ah the game against Florida. um But I know I was kind of following along on my phone. It like the the the numbers started to look like they but should have belonged in a football game. Like they were encroaching, you know, like. Yes, for sure. So I mean,
00:03:23
Speaker
The Florida game was a good game. They played well, banged up squad came in and they took advantage of that and came out with the win. Their sole win so far this year. So nothing really to to lament there. and And I'm really, I'm not going to get too negative or, or, you know, bang my head against the wall. It's still early in the year. I'm going to try to give at least an optimistic out, you know, out outlook of, of how we've been going so far. Cause there were promising signs in the LA game before.
00:03:53
Speaker
the Florida game and the Florida game. Tons of shots, tons of chances, really were playing fast and and looked like they were playing well. And Darcy Kemper stood on his head playing against the Sabres on Thursday night against the LA Kings. Not much you can do about that, but they looked good doing it.
00:04:12
Speaker
And same in the Florida game, looked really great and came away with the win. The troubling games, I thought, were more against Pittsburgh and Columbus. Pittsburgh, they they go up early. I think they had a 3-1 lead after the first period. they They blow that. They had to claw back, get a goal. They traded goals in the third with the Penguins and eventually went to ah to overtime. And and look, Sydney Crosby, Malkin, they were doing their thing that night. You're going to see a lot of games this year where chris Crosby and Malkin just take over and look.
00:04:40
Speaker
like they're having a renaissance of their career and looking as good as they ever have. You're gonna see a lot more games, not a lot more, you're gonna see a lot of games too where they look flat and aged and I think they kind of takes them to the end of the year and see if they're in a playoff spot. But anyways, I digress. You had the lead, you had the chance to shut them down and Finish an opponent and they showed no signs of doing that I was hoping to see more of that this year with a new coach that prioritizes that kind of style and and is meant to be a veteran leader to to Get these guys going to shut down a game and it didn't happen you still get a point in overtime, but it's it's a consolation prize at that point and then Columbus dude, they came out and they looked flat and slow and unmotivated
00:05:30
Speaker
and We said this a lot last year. We haven't really said it this year. You probably could have made that argument for the Devils game, first game of the season. But it's it's troubling. I mean, that it's not like this is game 52 on a Tuesday night in Winnipeg and they're comfortably you know four or five so points above of the playoff line. They're they're fighting for the basement right now. It's early in the year.
00:05:58
Speaker
You just lost in a bit of an embarrassing way to Pittsburgh. You got to come out hotter than that. And you know it's it's it's one game. Those games happen for every single team every single year. So it's not you can't really chalk it up too much until it starts to be a pattern.
00:06:14
Speaker
but it's still concerning. You know what I mean? Oh dude, absolutely. it Especially like you said, like at this point, like you're still looking for a spark, right? Like let's get this, let's get this, this ship pointed in the other direction and it's just continuing to slip. And that's disappointing. Agreed. Yeah. I thought in in that game in particular, and a few others too, i being I'm not trying to throw them under the bus or anything. He hasn't really looked,
00:06:42
Speaker
right to me. I don't know if I could put my finger on why, just, you know, I don't know if it's maybe that injury from training camp that yeah never fully healed. If, if he's just, something's not clicking, but he doesn't, he doesn't look like Rasmus Dalling right now. Uh, it feels like he's maybe trying to force some things that aren't there. I don't know, but he, if, if this team's going to turn around, it starts with him. He's the, he's the captain now. He is the spiritual leader. He is the talent leader on the team. I mean, he should be,
00:07:12
Speaker
he should be your best player every night, night in and night out. And he doesn't look like it right now. And that's concerning. Look at me. I am the captain now. I'm the captain now. But I think, so defense needs to, needs to the success of the team is going to come from the blue line and we haven't seen it yet. The forwards on the other hand, I think have looked fairly good. The bottom six is doing exactly what you're asking them to do. Playing smart hockey, fast, McCloud, that trade looks great early on. He's he's been a breath of fresh air on the bottom six. And really, Malenstein, I thought, has looked good. um You know, without diving too much into numbers or anything like that, they theyve they've just, eye tests have looked solid so far. That's what you want your bottom six to do. It's the second line where I really take issue. Top line,
00:08:00
Speaker
I think they're playing fine, you know, uh, talks off to a hot start. Uh, Paterko looks great up on that top line. He got, I, I would make the argument that he might be the best forward on the team right now through six games. Um, but it's that second line that's really, really troubling me. It's, it's cousins in the middle on the wings is Quinn and, um, mostly, Oh my God. Um,
00:08:25
Speaker
Oh my God, help me out, Tom. Oh, zack Zach Benson. Yeah, yeah sorry. they've shifted a little bit from They've shifted a little bit from that because of injuries and things like that. But Cousins and Quinn look really concerning. ah Cousins has that new newish contract, paying him $7 million dollars a year to be our team's number two center. And he just does not look like it. I mean, struggling is is an understatement.
00:08:51
Speaker
The twin looks slow, doesn't look like he he doesn't have that burst that he seems to have had in the past. His skating ability historically has been fairly good and he's just been flat out out skated quite a bit. So I don't know if that's compounding from them being on the same line.
00:09:09
Speaker
I don't know if that is an issue with Paterka being moved off the line. If he was the straw that stirred the drink on that line, I don't know. But you got to get those two guys going. You can't have a top six that is completely neutered half the time. um you know It would be concerning if Dylan Cousins isn't a true center in the NHL, given you paid him to be your number two center.
00:09:33
Speaker
he ah Down the line, you might try him on the wing, but then at that point, who's stepping up and playing second line center? Is it Ryan McLeod? I don't think he's best suited for that. Are you asking Peyton Grebs to go up there? Lafferty? like None of these guys are really number two centers, and I think that's really concerning if Cousins is a winger in the at the NHL level. So I guess for me, like i don't Quinn sat the other night, and it didn't help tremendously if anything had hurt.
00:10:02
Speaker
um An idea that I had, I think, that I've heard thrown around too is is what if what if you do put Paterka back on that line? hes He's been very solid so far. Give them a spark by by matching them up with him again. And that moves Benson up to the top line with Tuck and Thompson, where I thought he looked he's gotten some looks with them, and I thought looked good in that spot. So you got to change something, though. You got to get those two guys going. It's concerning that they're not. Right. Right.
00:10:34
Speaker
The other thing I want to mention, stop me if you've heard this before, but the power play is just fucking putrid, dude. They're over over. They've yet to score a power play goal through six games. That's good. I think they've had something like 17 power play chances, something like that. It's 30 minutes elapsed of ice time between all those penalties that they've had to play up a man.
00:11:05
Speaker
and have still yet to score a goal. They're different. They're goal differential. They've been outscored on their own power play by giving up a shorthand to go to Pittsburgh the other night. It's it's just beat your head against the wall level of of disappointing. Incompetence? Yeah. I mean, did du last year we talked about it the whole year. They were the 28th, I think, ranked power play last season. They had a new coach come in. They promoted Seth Appert, who is It has a reputation of being a good power play specialist. you you know You know flat out that it was an issue last year. You don't have that much new personnel on your power play units. How do you get them clicking? And whatever off season work they did, whatever training camp work they did and through six games has not worked. Their zone entries have been a touch better. Sure. I'll give you that and that is one of the staples of Seth Appert's power play. yep But once in the zone, it's it's just not working. There's there's no there's no cohesion. Puck movement is sloppy. Barely generating chances. I can count i'd need more than one hand to count the power play ah like cycles that the other team has generated more scoring chances on than the Saber's have. And i mean it's it's frustrating because I think they're they're playing
00:12:30
Speaker
pretty good hockey, five on five, but you just, you cannot be a playoff team if your special teams are clicking. Last year, the bottom, no no team in the bottom 10 in power play percentage made it to the postseason. So it's just, it's inexcusable really. I mean, you have scoring talent on the roster. You have excellent point men ah to to set you up. you yeah yeah need to You need to figure it out. You need to figure it out.
00:13:00
Speaker
Deep breath. Okay, buddy. Yeah. Yeah. we're We're getting there now. What put us in the position here? We're a month and, you know, five weeks away from Thanksgiving, that, uh, but witching line, um, what puts us, what turns this

Buffalo Bills Trades and Celebrations

00:13:15
Speaker
boat around? What, what puts the savers in position to possibly squeak into a playoff spot and into playoff position?
00:13:22
Speaker
So yeah, the Thanksgiving line is a ah well-cited stat on this podcast. Some journalists cite November 1st. I think it's something like 90% of teams that are in a playoff spot on November 1st go on to make the playoffs. So I mean, it's it's coming up. i mean you can't You can't make the playoffs in October, but you can you can lose them. So it's it's not the end of the world. They haven't missed the playoffs yet. There's a lot of hockey left to be played there's still 76 more games to go. um So you know it's not the the the sky is falling yet, but you you've really put the pressure on yourselves to turn things around. you you know for for As bad of a stretch that they've had,
00:14:10
Speaker
At this point, they kind of need an opposite stretch to go their way to claw back into things. And that it it is possible. It is more than possible. This team could go on a run and and rip off four, five, six wins in a row. If they do that, then you know I'm going to look silly for for trashing them. and And that's why I don't think I am. I think i think there is optimism still. um But that's that's my point. is is you've put yourself in that position where you need to now do that. You can't just rely on being consistent. Now you need to go through and and have a dominant stretch. yeah So early on in the year, it's like, okay, like, yeah, we we got to make the playoffs. Like we just got to, we got, we got to be consistent. We got to win two or three games and just kind of ride the season that way. Whereas now you're saying they can still make the playoffs, but
00:14:59
Speaker
And that's just an uncomfy place to be in, especially when there's so, so much pressure on this team yeah yeah to make the postseason. It's an uphill battle. So they've got Chicago tomorrow night, Saturday, and then they got Dallas next Tuesday. So neither is an easy matchup. Chicago has improved from last year. Dallas is a team that you'd be you'd be joking yourself if you didn't think they were going to finish near the top of the West. Both, I believe, are road games. I can't remember now. but um Yeah, you've you've put yourself in a ah tumultuous situation early, early, early on in the year. So it's not that they can't climb out of it before they need to, they need to strap on the work boots and get there. Yeah. Yeah. Make, and make an active difference here. Yeah, exactly. So yeah, let's move on to the, the bills, dude. And I think here we got some, some news.
00:15:52
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. bit Big week. I think we got to start with today, October 18th is Sir Dalton Kincaid's 25th birthday. So happy birthday, young man. ah Go do something this week about it. OK.
00:16:04
Speaker
um
00:16:07
Speaker
ah And then ah on Tuesday, so we played the Jets Monday night. We'll talk about the game in a moment here. Tuesday, we wake up 15th and Kabam! Big news, the Jets trade for Devontae Adams. We all kind of knew that that's where that was probably happening, right? That's been bubbling up in the NFL ah ah wavelengths for the last week or two. and And we kind of figured that's where we're going to go. and They did it. They um the Jets sent a conditional third round pick that can can become a second round pick based on a few different things um and took on his entire contract. So Devontae Adams goes and joins his good boy, old Rogers in ah in New York. And we're going to see how that ends up working. um And after that, we're like, I went and found my buddies at work. And it's like, oh, man, like, that's crazy. We kind of thought that might happen. But hopeful holy he shit, they did it.
00:17:03
Speaker
Does that actually solve their problems? I don't know. We'll talk about that in a second. um in Then up about 2.15, mostly because I know because I was heading to a staff meeting at that point. um The but news came in, the Mills made a trade. The Bills went to Cleveland and acquired a Mari Cooper, so um which is honestly, I'm over the moon. I think based on the fact that Devontae Adams was going to the Jets,
00:17:31
Speaker
And yeah, it would have been fun to go get Devonta Adams, so but probably borderline irresponsible to go get Devonta Adams, right? of Especially because Bean's been working so hard of like, hey, we're never going to put us into the point where like, we can't climb out of this hole and we can't compete. A move like that gets you closer to that the edge of that that ah that scale of, okay, we're setting this team up for the future of maybe we won't be able to compete.
00:17:56
Speaker
um Amari Cooper, we sent the 2025 third round pick, a 2026 seventh round pick in exchange for Amari Cooper and a 2025 six round pick. So um honestly, excellent um trade value there. We only took on um a small portion of his already reduced salary. So we're only paying them $806,000 and six thousand dollars in change, which is peanuts for a guy like him. Like less less than special day. Yeah.
00:18:27
Speaker
Yeah, that's that's rookie contract levels. So he's going to be a free agent this next offseason. He's already been paid. right The Browns paid him ahead of time. They they paid that money up front. So it's not like the guy's underpaid and that he you know anything like that. He's got his money, but the bills are only allow are only pay allotting $806,000 to him. um He will be a free agent after this um this season.
00:18:49
Speaker
He's ah historically been a great player. he's been He's actually been traded four times. He's never been a free agent. He's always been traded, which is kind of bananas. He was drafted by the Raiders, sent to the Cowboys, then sent to the Browns, and now sent to the Bills.
00:19:05
Speaker
um I'm sure he's probably actually looking forward to a nice little free agent ah cycle where he can go earn all that wide receiver money. um But he's a great wide receiver. I think he's an awesome um acquisition and actively makes this bill's team better.
00:19:22
Speaker
He's a five time Pro Bowler. He's ah um he's had 1,100 yards um receiving in the four of the last five seasons. And is that downfield threat and can separate that that the bills are missing? To put him at the top of this wider receiver room and drop and drop everybody down?
00:19:39
Speaker
Kalushikir number two. Hell yeah. um Let's get Mac Hollins. Let's get um Curtis Samuel as a three, four kind of, you know, sit and wherever they need to to be. And they're like, that's exactly where these guys need to be. um I'm pumped about it.
00:19:57
Speaker
What are your thoughts, dude? Yeah, no, I totally agree with everything you're saying. And we talked about this after the Ravens game, where we we were talking about that kind of deep shot vertical passing game and how there's not really a receiver that can do that. This guy can't. I mean, he's he's proven that time and time again in his career with different quarterbacks. And so that just kind of pushes everybody else down down the the roster, like you said, but also pushes them more to the inside if he can handle those outside

Recap of Bills vs. Jets Game

00:20:24
Speaker
routes. and I think that benefits a lot of our guys that maybe are as as speedy or or have the ah hands to to make up those those vertical passes. So dude, I'm um thrilled that we got him, especially for the cost that we did.
00:20:38
Speaker
Yeah. Like the value is amazing. And I think the effect that he's going to have on this team is awesome. And I can't believe I left off freaking Keon Coleman. You're going to have Amari Cooper and Keon Coleman on the outside. Put Kalil Shakir, Dalton Kincaid, right? Curtis Samuel on the inside. And and now we're cooking. not Now we're cooking. I'm excited about it.
00:20:57
Speaker
um From all ah reports, he's a great locker room presence. He's a guy he never he doesn't chirp. He doesn't go asking for the ball. He does what he's told. He's a great route runner. he He's a smart football player and he knows where to be and is and is friendly to quarterbacks. So um I think this is going to be an awesome act like position. Now you do have to kind of pump the brakes. hes He was, you know, he drove to Buffalo Tuesday night, right? Like he um so, you know, He, I think, as I heard, ver saw reports that he's more than likely playing this weekend, which will be cool. Let's get him out there. And he's a good player. Who knows? Something could happen. Some spark could happen. And boom, he makes a play or two. I don't think it will be often, I don't think it'll be a lot of schemes throws to him. I think it will be, he's on the field. Maybe a play breaks down or something happens. He gets one 40 yard touchdown, which would be amazing, right? What a fun way to say hello to Buffalo. Do it in Orchard Park and the fans would like, you know, eat him up. Like that would be awesome.
00:21:55
Speaker
But give them a week or two, maybe three, maybe four. Definitely by the end, the second half of this season, I think he should be fully integrated into the offense and then we'll be humming. Yeah. Well, I heard an interview with him where he was saying that he sat down and learned the playbook a bit. Obviously you need to do that in practice.
00:22:16
Speaker
before you're kind of set. But I like how early on this trade was. It's week seven? Seven? Yeah, week seven. So yeah he's gone he's got a lot of runway to to get acclimated with the team and you know give them options the rest of the season.
00:22:31
Speaker
Yeah, Bean did not sit on his hands. He was actively trying to make this trade happen. And he could have waited to the deadline. The deadline is that ah first week of November. um He could have waited and then went and made a move. And I'm glad he didn't. He saw the problem, and he went and tried to actively fix it. From what I heard, he was actually pretty aggressively going in kind of in going after Cooper and was in conversations with the Browns for we're quite a bit here. So it's like seeing that Bean saw the problem and is is now working to so to solve it. so
00:23:04
Speaker
absolutely yeah i mean dominoes on tuesday whenever that trade one went down yeah now my to kind of compare the mari cooper coming to the bills and uh devante adams going to the jets i think um devante adams going to the jets is good. He's a phenomenal player. He's got awesome chemistry with Aaron Rodgers, but it doesn't solve their biggest problems. They don't have an O-line, right? Their D-line um depth is just nothing.
00:23:37
Speaker
The Amari Cooper coming to the Bills fills one of those final holes in this in this team. And all of a sudden, instead of just like, oh, we're just going to keep building a strength like the the like the Jets did, we have now shored up another weakness. And we're all now becoming more and more bulletproof. So I think it was an ah awesome choice in ah in ah and a great way of spending um some capital to go solve a problem.
00:24:03
Speaker
Um, the bills also brought in a, uh, a kicker, uh, at competition for, uh, Tyler Bass, he's on the practice squad. So who knows? I liked the, the, uh, the gesture more than likely isn't a solution. you There's a reason the guy was, uh, you know, unemployed and didn't have a job. Um, so they brought in Lucas have, have her sick.
00:24:24
Speaker
I'm going to say that I'm not sure that that last name, we're going to have to get an interview with him or hear somebody say that name. Last year he spent it with the Rams and in nine games, he was 19 of 22 and extra points and 15 of 20 on field goals. So nothing really, you know, it's super exciting and was, you know, clear that he was not signed. Um, so, uh, but you know what? I like the gesture it sends to in the message it sends to tether bass. Like, dude, we, we got, we got to figure this out.
00:24:53
Speaker
Somebody's breathing down your neck when you're missing those extra points. Oh, my God, dude, that was that know um even if it was blocked, he kicked it into the block. Like it wasn't it wasn't going in. He absolutely just shanked it into this other paw of a giant human's hand. And yeah, yeah, cause or effect. Right. buts It's not like that's the only extra point he's missed this year. Right. Right.
00:25:20
Speaker
So I like that. I like the gesture and Tyler, man, I would love nothing else except for you to just figure your shit out and come out and and be able to do it. But holy cannoli. So just a quick ah recap of Bill's V jets on Monday night. The bills came out the win 23 20. It was wasn't clean. It was dirty. But it wins a win. Right. A win is a win. And we don't care how they come. We just care that they're there at this point.
00:25:49
Speaker
Doink doink doink Yeah, dude, I mean those two those two off the goal posts kicks from the Jets kicker were monumental they turned out to be it was it was windy it looked windy and the the announcing staff was talking about it, but He still missed, you know, you take them anyway they come um But yeah, wow, what a what a break kind of Yeah, exactly. Let's start with some things we liked um because there was, there was quite a bit. This team looked, looked, they looked good. There was some improvement and there they did come out with the win. um My favorite part was Ray Davis, seeing the rookie come in and just play physical. Like that guy was running into people's faces.
00:26:34
Speaker
Yeah, right. Like he's not the slashing kind of speedy style of runner that James Cook is who is also very good and playing very well. Ray Davis has a different style and he's ready to take it to the to the to the to the you know to put your nose to the not grindstone there. Like he's going to make you work for it.
00:26:53
Speaker
Yeah, it was awesome seeing that too, because he's been a bit more limited in his his snaps and touches. So if if they can open up a two headed monster with Cook and Davis, where no matter who's on the field they trust, that that's a good formula to have. Yep, especially because they have two different speeds, right? Two different ways to play that same position. Like, that's awesome. I think we will see more um Ray Davis on the field. I think his touches are going to start to increase as we go on.
00:27:21
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely. He's a rookie. Yeah. First year. Yep. Yeah. Like that. He he looked incredible. Like it. Yes, sir. 20 rushes for 97 yards, three receptions for 55 yards. He had the one longest catch of the game. That crazy scramble drill that Josh was kind of backed up into our own end zone and just hawked it down the field. I was blown away by that catch. Like, let's go, dude. Every week. Every week. it's There's one. And hey, Ray Davis got that one. So yeah.
00:27:50
Speaker
that's That's another thing I like, too, though, is I thought Josh played a really good game. He had a bit of a down game, maybe against the Ravens, a little sugar high, but he was he was pretty dialed, I thought, efficient. Got in for a touchdown, no turnovers, looked great.

Man, I am like, did Josh hear every conversation from the offseason of everybody just railing into him about turnovers, turnovers, toe nervous? And he's like, OK, fine. And I don't do any. ah he' He's got.
00:28:26
Speaker
Not a single interception yet, right? not Yeah. Oh my God. My, this, my superstition is going crazy before talking about this. We got it. Right. This is such a great storyline. He has one fumble. He has one, one fumble that he gave up and that's it like yeah in the first half of the first game.
00:28:41
Speaker
Yeah. And since then, he's taking care of the ball. So keep doing that, dude. And to be honest with you, at some point, he's going to revert to the mean, right? He's got an interception. He's going to have another fumble that gets picked up by the by the opposite team. But if he can keep this rate and and just even he goes back to just like, hey, one or maybe two turnovers a game, that that is totally within the realm of of of of the averages, right? And he's still going to be playing really, really well. So Um, we have to know that that's more than likely coming because this is just incredibly, especially for him, uh, incredibly, uh, kind of a turnaround there, but, um, it could happen. So who knows?
00:29:22
Speaker
Yeah, give me another thing you liked about the game. what What were your eyes drawn to? Love seeing Taryn Johnson out there, dude. Love seeing that secondary starting to figure it out. Taryn Johnson sealed the game with that interception from Aaron Rodgers, the one that essentially got Mike Willems sent out of town and Devontae Adams brought into town. um And I like that. You know, Tron, dude, good work, buddy.
00:29:43
Speaker
Yeah, looked good. the The defense in general, I thought looked pretty decent. They, they held the jets went on trips to the red zone. They held them one for four for touchdowns yeah and that set up the need to trust their kicker who wins. Whatever happens, uh, you know, cost them points. So I thought that was another good tick in the, the wind column. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. they're They're, they're, they're, they're, they're doing well. They're, they're figuring things out and we're getting healthier, which is the part that's important here. Um,
00:30:13
Speaker
I got to go to the bad and the ugly here, dude. I got to figure out how this team, if they were ever in a Hail Mary situation, I don't have, I think we're just going to gift the other team, the ball at this point. I don't have any trust, um, that they will be able to figure out how to stop a Hail Mary. I don't know what we're doing. du it's seems It's often, like you know, it's not every game, but but boy, there seems to be a lot of them. Just, just, just hit the ball away.
00:30:43
Speaker
back the ball down, get rid of the ball. Also, I don't know what we're doing of only Russian two, right? There we rushed two and dropped nine. I understand you want to be in the end zone. Yeah, exactly. Don't give Aaron Rodgers, who's not the you know a mobile little water bug, like go get in his face, speed up the play. And you're honestly you're trying to also speed up the play because the receivers have to get down the field. They have to have a couple of seconds to get there. And if you can get the Rogers first, boom, game over. I don't know. I don't know. At some point, they got to figure this out. And I don't know if they do.
00:31:21
Speaker
um I don't know. Thankfully, again, they came out with the win. Doesn't matter. But if if they, if Rogers did not complete that Hail Mary pass, the bills go up a score. We have an a double dip opportunity. Maybe they go up a two scores. And this game is a completely different ball game and it doesn't stay close.
00:31:39
Speaker
Yep. Change the whole feel of the second half for sure. And so we, you know, fumble, bumble our way to allowing them a, you know, last minute touchdown at the end of the half. And, and then boom, we have to stay, play a tight game all the way through and, and it just, come on, figure that out. Agreed. Yeah.
00:32:00
Speaker
we We mentioned bass already. Anything else you want to say about him and the bad and the ugly? Cause it's his name. His name should be in this. No, no, I you know. what I don't really want to spend much more of a breath on him. I think he's got it. He's figured out to figure it out. I don't know what to tell you. This team is as strong as its weakest link and you're the weakest link right now. you ah percent If we want to be able to stay in games that we need to win, he has to figure it out. And and kickers have just become more and more important. Like they,
00:32:28
Speaker
a lot of them just do not miss. And so it's just, it's to say it's free points that you're leaving on the board is maybe simplifying it a bit too much, but you you can't turn those points up, but they're hard to come by in NFL games. You got it. You got to make those. So got to make them yeahp anyways. the The other, the other ugly, I wanted to mention so many penalties and it's not like they all went against the bills. It was, it was, it there were three teams playing that night and one of them was the referee squad. Uh, it was, it was ridiculous. somes I mean,
00:32:58
Speaker
some Every play, it' yeah I was just waiting for a flag to fly. Some of them were super late. like it was It was a comedy act by the end, dude. Some of them were just blatantly not penalties on both teams. I'm not trying to be a homer here. It was it was ridiculous, man. just Just wanted to mention that. They made it about them. They made it about them. And they should not be. The inconsistency of panel of ah officiating in NFL is just bananas, considering the billions of dollars that are

Preview of Bills vs. Titans Game and Predictions

00:33:27
Speaker
involved here. but For sure. But you come away with the win. You're four and two. You got two games up on the next team in the division. Good place to be. Keep on rolling, baby. Great place to be. Great place to be. So that's yeah, yeah let's keep it moving. The Bills welcome the Tennessee Titans to Orchard Park on Sunday um for a 1 p.m. kickoff. We're back. We're back home. We've been on a little bit of a road stint here in 1 p.m. in Orchard Park. Sign me up, baby. Let's go. That's prime time.
00:33:56
Speaker
um The big kind of keys here ah is we cannot let this be the um the game that the Titans come alive. They have been a bumbling, just stumbling, idiotic team this entire um first half of the season, first part of the season, and we can't let them figure it out.
00:34:15
Speaker
um It's that bumbling stumbling idiotic ah team is led by Sir Will Levis who at this point is essentially just sugar high Josh Allen to the nth degree like all this crazy shit that we get upset with Josh that he'd done throughout his career Will Levis seems to pack it into one quarter like it's it's bananas in Don't let him figure it out. Make make will labis be the one to have to win this game and have to figure out with his star studded wide receivers. Ready? Let me name some wide receivers here. DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, and Tyler Boyd on paper.
00:35:00
Speaker
Some very well-known names, maybe not in their prime. DeAndre Hopkins certainly isn't. Calvin, really, I thought still was. It hasn't. Maybe it's because he's you know getting a middle school quarterback throwing him the ball. but um And Tyler Boyd's one of the best slot wide receivers in the league. He's definitely absolutely top five, top eight slot receiver in the league. like They have weapons. Don't don't let Will Leves kind of figure this out. Yeah, keep him on the mat. What's the record? Do you know off the top of your head?
00:35:30
Speaker
I think they're one in five, or one in four. One in five. One in four because they've already had a bye week. They've already had a bye week. Those are coming home after a couple of games away. Bill's mafia is going to be fired up. like it's it's yeah The team's going to be fired up, I think, so I hope it shows. Yeah. Get into his head, right? Be loud in that stadium, folks. Be loud in that stadium. Get into his head. Get him off his mark. Figure this out. The ah the Titans do have a decent run game, and the Bills have
00:36:02
Speaker
been kind of gashed by the run. So I would be very surprised if Tony Pollard doesn't have a decent game. So Jake, your, your fantasy team is going to be very happy. I wasn't going to say anything well this gets you yard between the twenties, buddy. No touchdowns just between the twenties. You know, he has 90 scrimmage yards and a couple of receptions and you'll be happy. You can get out. Sign me up. Um, but I think that's how they're going to try and attack it, which is perfectly fine because then I think you're also, I think that gives the bills, the thing to stop.
00:36:32
Speaker
If you can stop the run game and force will allow us to play, have to win this game and put this game on his back. I think that's where you want them. So, but I don't know if we can stop this run game. I don't know who who knows. We'll see. Um, getting healthier is good. Having Terrell Bernard and Taryn Johnson back is good. And I think that's going to help quite a bit. Yeah, for sure. So their, their offenses is not the most.
00:36:55
Speaker
Stout but talk to me about the defense. I see your note here that they're a little banged up um what What do you know about the injury situation and how their defense will look again? Um Yeah, so there there there's some players in that starting defense that are nursing some injuries particularly Legeria Sneed which last year if anytime we played the Chiefs or the Chiefs played anybody locked down corner like elite excellent I don't know where that guy went this season. He's not playing in Tennessee. I'll tell you that much. um He's but not looked like himself. I don't know if it's scheme. I don't know if it's just the, you know, Nashville tendencies that Nigel is kind of sending some voodoo out there. I don't know what it is, but Sneed has not been himself. So I would imagine that ah we'll be able to kind of figure things out. He's also a little banged up, so he might not even play.
00:37:45
Speaker
um The there, however, their, their D line Ben Simmons upfront like their D line is has has some some guys. So our O line is going to have to make sure to stay really stout, make sure that they play, make sure that they keep their, um their gap integrity, all that kind of stuff. and And really make sure to not let Josh get affected too much by this, this, uh, Titans pass rush.
00:38:14
Speaker
Yeah, dude, back home, take care of business, get the ball out, take advantage of that defense, bring her home. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Bills are like nine and a half point favorites for this. So they just like, they, they need to just figure this out. Talk this up, stay healthy, figure this out. So yeah, man. Do you want to do some score predictions? I would. Yeah. I I'll go first. If you don't mind, I got my dialed up. All right.
00:38:41
Speaker
just, just look like you're favored by that much. You know, um, I'm going to say they come back to Buffalo, uh, ready to roll and they not destroy, but you know, they, they trounced the Titans 34 21 and that's my expectation. Nice. Yeah. Yeah. Hey man. I'd love that. I'm going to go a little bit more of a low scoring game and I'm going to go, uh, Bill's win 24 10.
00:39:04
Speaker
I do think the defense will slow down the the bill's offense a little bit, but um I think the bills are going to be able to really keep them to one or two scores here. so And then, ah yeah, won't have any issues. I love it, dude. I love it. Go Bills. Get us out of here, Tom. Go Savers. Yeah, let's get out of there.
