Introduction to Triple T Podcast

00:00:16
Speaker
What's up, everybody? Welcome to another Triple T podcast for knife makers. My name is Jared from Echo blades. And this evening I have my good friend and new co-host Mr. Dennis Terrell from Terrell knife works. You may have heard of him before from his smash YouTube it sensation channel Triple T.

Blueberry Pie Debate

00:00:39
Speaker
Wonder where we got the name from this podcast. Coincidence. That's not the name of my channel.
00:00:45
Speaker
Yes, it is. No, it isn't. Triple T is this hit smash segment from his YouTube channel. Terrell knife works. OK, that's better. OK. And how am I your new co-host? Oh, shit. My bad. What's up, Dennis? How are you and everybody else? Have you been cheating on me? I am, and but you know what I'm still thinking?

Thanksgiving Traditions

00:01:06
Speaker
I got this Canadian and eat more that I just I still haven't ate any more of it or any of it. You got to try it. You'll be hooked.
00:01:16
Speaker
I can't believe it. You know what, dude? I really, really need to ask a question here. And I think all the listeners want to know is who in the fuck likes blueberry pie? Like, I've been thinking about this for a week now, like extensively. Like, I don't even think I've ever been offered a blueberry pie. who How could you not like blueberry pie? I haven't had it. Like, I was was thinking about like, I don't think I've ever even it's never been offered to me. It's the best pie ever. It's my favorite pie.
00:01:46
Speaker
but How many have you have you had like just one? No, I've had many blueberry pies. I harass Kayla every three months to make a blueberry pie. I tell her berry pie. I'm not even that picky, but blueberry is my favorite. I don't know.
00:02:02
Speaker
I don't think it's kind of weird. how But speaking of blueberry ah Canadian pie, I'm not Canadian.

Thanksgiving Mishap Story

00:02:09
Speaker
I just love blueberry pie. Is that like a cheap knockoff to American pie, the movie? Except instead of watermelons, we use blueberries. I guess. I don't know, man. I think we use apple pie, you know, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, peach gobbler. like I don't know. It's just a blueberry left field there for me, buddy.
00:02:32
Speaker
What am I supposed to, what are you bringing back from your, uh, your Hoth trip? Butterscotch butter tarts, butter tarts. Yeah. Don't you forget. All right. and she I want you to, absolutely.
00:02:47
Speaker
Except I'm going to get maple flavor. fuck off Oh, I bet you they have it too. Oh, I bet you it comes in a hockey puck too. That'd be real cool.
00:02:59
Speaker
Yeah, map i'm i'm I'm Googling maple flavored chew right now. no Thank you. But if you can get Copenhagen mint in ah in a hockey puck, that would be that'd be stellar. Okay, I'll work on that. All right. Good deal. But how was your Thanksgiving, man?
00:03:15
Speaker
Uh, I ate too much. I was uncomfortably fat on the couch, uh, to

DMV Frustrations

00:03:22
Speaker
the point where I had to have a nap before but in the afternoon, before, uh, um, second eat yeah, we eat it. Like, I don't understand the, this, I swear this does not happen in Canada. Why do people in the U S have Thanksgiving at like three o'clock?
00:03:43
Speaker
like why do people have Thanksgiving dinner so early here? Never done this. I I we typically never have an early dinner. We're always around five or six because people don't start showing up at grandma would always have people like get there around three o'clock. But that's a thing here in the US. like I have friends. I'm like, oh, yeah, we start eating at two. I'm like, two? like Yeah, because we want we want to be done by four and then have our second dinner at seven. And there's a certain merit to this, but it's weird. Yeah, I mean, yeah god rest or God bless all the the fat people that want to eat two dinners. I'm all for that. But you know and well I don't know. I mean, i've I've only been to the

Golfing Adventure

00:04:29
Speaker
Thanksgiving's I've been to. And we have like these.
00:04:33
Speaker
deviled eggs and you know snacky things that happen throughout the day and platters and shit like that that we snack on all day so we're full before we even get to dinner but oh you said deviled eggs so parker came over and uh we were all we were probably less than an hour from dinner and cam or somebody says we don't have any deviled eggs we need deviled eggs so we tasked parker to make deviled eggs he's never made deviled eggs before you know, ah under some tutelage from his father. ay He made the best, up that was like the best thing of the day almost with the devil eggs that he made. Oh, wow. Yeah, they were, they were pretty good. Cheers. But yeah, it was the usual, you know, turkey stuffing. You know, I made my usual cranberry sauce that homemade that nobody eats but me and
00:05:25
Speaker
One other person who wasn't even here. not Not a cranberry sauce fan. No. We didn't actually even have a turkey this year. Oh, that's just wrong. We had ham. I don't mind ham, but it doesn't excite me like turkey does. Yeah, I don't. Because turkey is just a delivery mechanism for stuffing. True. Right. Ham is not. But ham is awesome. Ham is the gift that keeps on giving. I just had another ham sandwich today.
00:05:56
Speaker
Hallelujah. Oh, I think that about praise be to the hand. But then by like day three of having turkey leftovers, I'm done over it. Yeah. Yes. I get it. We just we just finished it. I think yesterday. So, Jared, so Jared, had we had a friend, one of Jared's

Knife Making Scams

00:06:14
Speaker
friends came over um for Thanksgiving. And this was, I don't know, like, I don't know, three or four or something like that. Like I said, we you know, at ah at a dinner time-ish type of thing. And he was going to go pick him up. I told him, I was like, I'll go grab him. So he had his bike out front. I told him, go put your bike away. We'll get in the car. And so my daughter and him went and picked him up. And then my daughter and I tried to embarrass the shit out of him by singing Wicked.
00:06:49
Speaker
with the sunroof open at the top of our lungs flying high. like give us Give us a belt. Let's hear it. No, I'm not going to do it. What your command? No, is this is this was a special moment for for my kids and I. But we did defy gravity very loud at the top of our our lungs. And it was pretty cool. But we get back and I walk in the door and Lynn's like,
00:07:17
Speaker
Shut the door. Shut the door. You you made the the gas go out. And I'm like, that's not possible. Like the burners went out on the stove. Right. And then I'm like, so you guys got to remember, right, Jared? Knife maker Jared never had any tools prior to making knives. Right. And I've never been a handyman. I've never, you know, we've always called people to fix things. And so this is all new for me. So I put on my my new hat and I start trying to problem solve and I'm like,
00:07:46
Speaker
get the get the lighter and try to, you know, light the stove, the old fashioned getaway. And um I might very quickly realize gas is out. Now I can't figure out why I'm like, holy shit, the fucking stove just shit out on us on Thanksgiving. We're like, like, like 30 minutes, like everything's starting to preheat all the stuff that's been cooking all day. Like we're just about to get get down. And and I can't get any gas to the ah to the stove. I'm like, I can't figure it out. So I started thinking about it. I'm like, shit, we still have hot water. And then I go put the

Holiday Season Reflections

00:08:21
Speaker
dryer on and I can't even get any any heat out of the dryer. I'm like, what the fuck? So long story short, long story short. So here in California, all of our PG and&E, our gas um and provider electric company, they put these earthquake brace or earthquake shutoff valve, emergency shutoff valves on the gas meter. So if we get to shaking, rocking and rolling,
00:08:46
Speaker
It triggers a shut off and cuts the gas off to the house. So. Jared, when he went to go put his bike back, pulled a classic like teenager move through it and just like threw it on the side of the house and it freaking clinked the side. They get the gas meter because I, you know, Inspector Gadget over here, I walk out to the side to check the meter to see if it's on and I'm like, I'm like, there's a bike on top of the meter. I'm like, oh, man So it took me a second when Lynn and I had to do some Google in to see if, if we could reset it, which after a while I super simple, take a screwdriver, click a thing and click back on. But yeah, we had a pretty good scare there for a minute without any gas right before, right before we were about to eat. Yeah, that's really bad timing. It's really bad timing. And we're not above like going to
00:09:43
Speaker
get a pizza on any holiday but it's kinda tough. Christmas, you could do it. We've done it before but oh yeah. So, that was interesting but other than that, we had a pretty good pretty good time. It was very chill. Um it was a uh like I said last week, this one was a little little rough without without grammar here this year. Um but we did get to go to her house at the end of the evening. And kind of like we had the like one of those emotional pulls where we were like, let's just go there. And we just kind of went where we'd spent many, many, many thanksgivings together and had a good cry and
00:10:22
Speaker
It was good, so she's missed. we We all miss her dearly, but we got through it. And other than that, it was ah it was a really good chill chi Thanksgiving. And

Katana Crafting Challenges

00:10:33
Speaker
man, I really enjoyed all the time off that I had, though. Four days was just fantastic. I had one day. Well, yeah, you have every day off, though. No. Not right now, but.
00:10:50
Speaker
But you you said you said the gat that reminded me that I didn't tell you last week when I was on my way to Rick's place. Luckily, I had to stop for gas with Parker like 8 a.m. Friday morning. And then Kim calls me in a panic that the pilot light in the in the hot water heaters out and I'm leaving for two days. So she's not going to be happy having no hot water for two days. So I had to come back in.
00:11:16
Speaker
light Oh shit. That's funny you said that because i didn't I didn't think about that until the next day. Apparently we had enough hot water in the tank to get us through. I took a shower. and Yeah. Yeah. It'll stay hot for eight hours, 12 hours. Yeah, something like that. So that had to happen. but Yeah. Yeah, it was cool. I got a did a lot of nice stuff a couple of days. Oh, nice. Actually got something done, huh? Do tell. I don't know if it was done, but it did work on some things. So I got my my Tobin jig.
00:11:55
Speaker
from Lawrence who uh did a fantastic he's just he's the best he got it to me quickly and uh and I started messing around with it and um But I had to make an executive decision. And I had Jared did a bunch of stuff a couple of weeks prior. and um But I was looking at this pile of things that I have in various stages of completion. And I was like, do I start?
00:12:27
Speaker
grinding more shit to add to this pile. So I decided to finish working on about four things, so I am a lot closer to finishing up about four knives here. Nice. sir Yeah, it was it was good. It was it was good for my maker motivation um and trying to just get me kicked off in gear of doing certain things of of knife making are more fun than others. Right. So I got to to get moving and and a good time. Nice. It was a lot of fun.
00:13:07
Speaker
Yeah, I know I've got like three or more than that four blades waiting to ah jump into not even including the folder that you saw. But all all eyes all focuses on these katanas right now. How'd that go?
00:13:27
Speaker
So I was hard at it over Thanksgiving. um Took Thursday, didn't go in the shop on Thursday, but Friday, Saturday, Sunday, all day, eight plus hours. And finally got to the point, um I was thinking yesterday, but today finally got to the point where I emailed the customer and said, yeah, I'm going to make the date. So. go Right now I'm at, I did the, I put the stingray skin on the handles. The only piece that I have left to do with a manuki, the little ornaments on the side of the hand. Would you call me? Yeah, that's what I called you. Jeez.
00:14:10
Speaker
um and So the Manuki, so I've got three more of those to do.

Podcasts in the Workshop

00:14:18
Speaker
There's two on each play, on each handle. So other than that, and then the next big thing is the Scabbards, the Saez. So, but everything is like, every I just have finished work. I have sanding and finish work. That's it.
00:14:33
Speaker
he's go to sand the blades sand the blades sand the fittings hot black the fittings um wrap the handles I got a lacquer this like the it sounds like oh yeah you're almost there but you know I have to do the scabbards have to lacquer the scabbards which is a lot of work sand them contour them so there's you know then And there's some final fitting stuff that I gotta do wrap the so much time you got left because you just explained a lot of shit and I don't feel like you're I have a line of anything. I'm gonna book my flight for next Thursday. So two weeks ish. Yeah, basically two weeks and I'm pretty comfortable with that.
00:15:22
Speaker
Good, so ah yeah, but it was, you know, and and there's there's times where I'm like, oh yeah, I'm doing well, I'm doing well. And then like an hour would go by and I'm like, this is taking too long, I'm so far behind. And it was like this roller coaster of emotions over the weekend. But now I'm like, okay, and I'm like, I have this checklist of what I need to do, so.
00:15:44
Speaker
Yeah, I'm I love it. Like, especially this is the point of the build when they start to look cool and you start to get excited. And especially when the stingray, sticky skin goes on and it's got that black finish and everything starts to look cool. It gets more exciting. But man, it's been a long slog on these two. Doing one Katana Katana is hard enough. Doing two is and filming it at the same time.
00:16:12
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know that I would ever do this again. Hmm. Not two of them. Yeah, it's a tall order. And especially when you had to do it over. Yeah, right. Yeah, I had to do one of the katanas over. But um yeah, they're, they're looking really nice. um I'll be once I get the blade sanded, then they'll be they'll be snazzy. So I'm looking forward to it.
00:16:39
Speaker
Cool, cool. yeah So that's all you did all all all that all that weekend. Oh, I did all weekend all today. Actually, I did have to take a break today. Because I had to take Parker to the DMV. And I just want to say that If you want to feel good about your organizational skills, you should go to the DMV and see how they're organized, and anyone will feel good about their organizational skills. um That is the most deunction dysfunctional organization in the country, where you have an appointment for three o'clock, you get there, you wait in line for half an hour,
00:17:21
Speaker
And this is for ah his in-car test. And then they tell you to get in the line that has 30 cars in it, and that line is gonna take an hour and 45 minutes. gee And then our appointment was at three. At 4.15, they basically came out to us and said, yeah, we're not gonna make it, we need to reschedule you. I've already been there for two hours. but So I'm fucking pissed at this point.
00:17:51
Speaker
So it didn't happen?

Black Friday Knife Deals

00:17:52
Speaker
Didn't happen. and we got matt Did you smack Parker for waiting until he was 18 to do this shit? Because that's that's a whole other topic about these kids waiting this long to get their damn license. Well, you'd think he' he'd be more level headed. And he's actually a good driver, so I think he's going to pass no problem. and Oh, Lord, that's comforting.
00:18:13
Speaker
you
00:18:17
Speaker
Well, you never know how you go forward. and I'd be less confident if he was 16. Let me tell you. Okay. I'm a teacher. I mean, every, every, everybody develops at their own rate. That's funny. You said it. Cause I actually let my my son and I went, um, we went golfing on Sunday, um, back to the same place, which of course I really liked, but bro, it was.
00:18:39
Speaker
It was cold. It was 42. It was California cold. It was 42 degrees. yeah Everyone else in the country is laughing at you, but okay. I don't think so. 42 is cold. That's cold.
00:18:55
Speaker
You want to be mister? I'm you don't know cold. Yeah, go fuck off. That shit was cold and it missed me with all that because cold is cold and I was cold, but it i mean it wasn't horrible, but it it was freaking cold, but it was foggy on top of that. So golfing to 16 year olds, I took my buddy, my my my son's friend to 16 year olds. It was cold. I remember taking Jared when he was really a lot younger and that was shitty. That was a bad.
00:19:23
Speaker
That was a bad time. All I did was bitch and complain and, you know, wine. But ah they were they were cool. We had we had a good time, but it was foggy as shit, man. And golfing and the fog is it's kind of interesting. <unk> It's so good, like my rangefinder ah scope thing. That's cheating. You can't use those. You can.
00:19:42
Speaker
How do you know how far you're supposed to hit the ball? Dude, golf is, they got apps now. The kids have apps on their phone that tell you all the distances and stuff like that. But the rangefinder doesn't even work in the fog. So if you're hunting or doing it, because they're for golf, but they're for hunting and range. Yeah, I have several. I know true. Yeah. But yeah, that was kind of shitty. But I did a big, big news, guys. I ended up pulling the trigger and getting that driver.
00:20:09
Speaker
Yeah, did did it did it change your game? I hit the I hit the ball you hit the ball for the ball really fucking far. Every time or consistent? I'd never hit the ball consistently. That's doesn't change my whole thing. But my drive is. It's a new drive. I never even swung it. I picked it up on Friday or Saturday. Friday, I picked it up and then I took it off. I took the stickers, the plastic off it and just cracked it. So um it takes some getting used to but the new Callaway Callaway AI smoke is what I ended up getting and got a great deal on it too. wo So what why is it called AI just because that's a cool term these days.
00:20:51
Speaker
Oh, it's just the name of the thing. The last, what did I, I don't know. that they i don't I don't know. Callaway thought to call the damn. Yeah, it's automatic, dude. That's why. You just get it. Why do you call it golf club artificial intelligence? Like what? What? That's a dumb name. There's a lot of technology in the face of that club. If it makes me hit the ball straight and far. And nothing, none of it has anything to do with artificial intelligence. Maybe it doesn't stand for artificial intelligence.

Another Scam Encounter

00:21:22
Speaker
That's the accepted, accepted acronym for AI. I don't know, sir. I don't know why you're questioning it. I think that's a really, really lame thing to talk about. but No, but seriously, it was it was fantastic. It was good. And no, and I still shot 103, which is horrible. But, you know, so if you hit it really far, it's a great day for me. Oh, geez, yeah that's that's unreasonable. But I did beat my son and then his friend whooped our asses.
00:21:50
Speaker
like completely and that kid shot in the eighties, which was never bring him again. Yeah, I like it. Yeah, he's good. he' It's it's much the golf is one of the only things where you play with other people that are better than you and you you're not it's an individual sport, right? I mean, you're not really competing against anybody unless they're equally shitty or equally as good.
00:22:11
Speaker
so So seeing people do good is is cool. That's why I like it. It's kind of kind of like knife making, except when you're friends with Dennis. But yeah most people are yeah most people are encouraging. Yeah, it was cool. um But it was cold. It was foggy. and And on the way home, we're driving. And we had to go out of Highway 4, which is a two-lane road, the worst road ever. I hate this thing. And Jared asked me, he's like, hey, Dad, can I drive?
00:22:38
Speaker
where what Highway from Stockton. from v it's gary oh it's hard it's It's horrible. But anyways, we're on our way back and fog's lifted. It's in the afternoon and we get into town and I live just like on the outskirts. I basically live in a lot of farmland. um So he goes, can I ride a drive? i go I started thinking about it, I'm like, ah do you really want to drive or are you going to puss out, right? He's like, no, no. He's got his permit, right? He ain't got shit. He ain't got shit. We were in the process of getting his behind the wheel and doing all that. But so I was like, sure. I let him go and the little little bastard drove and.
00:23:25
Speaker
You know, it was i like three minutes from the house. He had to do a bunch of straight a couple turns and he was in there, but that was cool.
00:23:37
Speaker
yeah That is a nasty road. I've driven for everyone else. This is like this tiny little road that's on the on top of a basically it's like ah you're driving on the top of a levee. It is and death on both sides. yeah Yeah. There's like no guardrails. Like it's not like a ditch. It's like a 20 foot trench on either side. is And I've driven this. Yeah. And it is true. It is absolute idiots and trucks. It's it's horrible.
00:24:04
Speaker
But I've driven this, this road in ah our RV, which is like a 35 foot RV. And you don't realize how many like humps there are. It's so bad. In the fog too on the way there. it was It was gross. Yeah, I avoid that road like the plague. But and then we saw Gladiator 2 on Thanksgiving Day too. Oh, how was that? It was okay.
00:24:32
Speaker
Yeah, was this okay? This first one? No, not even close. Not even close. It was a good cast, good thing. Denzel was good. like though The whole thing, it was okay. It was it was worth the watch. i wouldn't know I wouldn't say run out and go see it, but it wasn't it wasn't horrible. It was good. That was Pedro Pascale, one of my favorite actors. Come again? Pedro Pascale. What else has he been in? What rock do you live under? Brentwood?
00:25:02
Speaker
He's been in the mandalorian. He's been in uh, oh that great movie with nicholas cage Um that I can't remember the name family man No, um movie. No, he was in um the second um Shit what's that? Uh, crap king kingsman he was in the second kingsman. He's been in a ton of movies
00:25:29
Speaker
I don't recall. It was good. It was good. It it was okay. I i didn't. ah Yeah, it was good. I like going to movies on Thanksgiving. Apparently that's like a thing. A lot of people do that. It's definitely a thing. It's definitely a thing. One of the biggest movie going times is over Christmas and over Thanksgiving. Yeah. Because you want to get the fuck out of Dodge playing hanging around with the family by Friday or Saturday. Yeah, we went early. We got a matinee and that was cool. But yeah.
00:26:07
Speaker
So I had a question too. What what the F? This is a family show. We don't cuss here. So what the fuck is the meaning of life? 42. You were busting my balls at the end of yesterday's or last week's. I told you you need to go watch the movie. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Go watching.
00:26:30
Speaker
I'm not okay. It is Phil Pascale in there or whatever you say. No, no, no, no. The whole movie is about the search for the meaning of life.
00:26:42
Speaker
And at the end of the movie, okay you're not gonna grasp the humor in this, but at the end of the movie, they build this monolithic machine to tell them what is the meaning of life. And the computer at the end spits out 42, and that's the answer.
00:27:05
Speaker
Where's the crickets? you got Where's the crickets sound effect? You gotta watch the movie. And that's what he knew he fucked up.
00:27:19
Speaker
like Wait, I'm here. I'm trying to get it. It was at this moment that he knew he fucked up. 4042 times. ah It is a really good movie. You should watch it. It is a cult classic.
00:27:33
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, I guess so just a little insight on how this wonderfully organized show works is we we spend a good minute name in the show.
00:27:46
Speaker
is yeah And it's always, Jared, what are we going to call the show? Jared, what are we going to tell the show? And this one particular one, he'd never asked me. And I was like, what are we doing for the name? Obviously, we got he was just locked in. like He knew this is what he wanted. so Actually, it was it was Parker that came up with the name of the show. And it's like episode number 42. And he's like, oh, it's a meeting of life. And I'm like, wow, I'm impressed you know that. Oh, jeez. Interesting. All right.
00:28:17
Speaker
Well, oh, I have news. I have news. Tell me the big fiasco that I announced last week, the ah the the guy that ordered the knife from Mexico that disputed the charge. Yeah, I have triumphed and I sent all of my data, the screenshots of the invoice, the postal stuff. And it was reversed in my favor.
00:28:47
Speaker
So not no story. No story. That's what the that's the whole story. ah it the I was actually bitching at GoDaddy because they basically said. If I had the email, I'd read it to you because it's like, yeah, well, you know, thank you for I give them all the info, like the screenshots and all that shit.
00:29:08
Speaker
And i I felt like I got the fucking form letter back that said, yeah, if you don't hear from us in 120 days, then you know this is considered a charge, but you should consider this a charge back loss. and black And I'm like, what the fuck? This sounds like a blow off. And ah so then I emailed them back and I said, I want i sent you this three days ago. like I want, i want I wanna know the reason for the dispute. I wanna follow up on this because this is now a known scam that's happening throughout the retail industry. I wanna follow up on this. And it was like six hours later, I get the resolution that says, yeah, you know we've we've returned the money back to your account. and And I thought I was mad because they charged me 15 bucks because it got reversed.
00:30:06
Speaker
And I said that in email, I'm like, you guys, it got disputed. You guys charge me $15 and I have to pay the money back. So the only person that loses in this is me. You made money off this, you go daddy. The guy gets the knife and I get screwed. I'm like, no, I'm not letting this go. So, uh,
00:30:29
Speaker
But maybe my email had absolutely no, no effect on that. But, uh, I was 15 bucks back to, or yes, I did get the, uh, the feedback as well. So nice. Yeah. But there was no followup on, on to what his dispute was. Nope.
00:30:47
Speaker
never got any info back. And but they did say he can dispute it. Again, he can dispute the dispute or whatever. So it's not totally closed. But I can't imagine he's gonna win. Like, you know, way I have the thing that it was sent. um You know,
00:31:06
Speaker
Did it delivered you last time we were talking? you did It hasn't. I checked yesterday and it hadn't been delivered, but you never know. Like it could be the last update was November 19th.
00:31:19
Speaker
So that it was already in Mexico and it was in transit in Mexico. I can't imagine it's taken 10 days to get from wherever it was, Mexico City or Guadalajara or wherever it was to where the guy is. I can't imagine it was going to be 10 days. but So anyway, I feel triumphant. We should be.
00:31:44
Speaker
But um I did, so just to talking about scams, and I don't, I don't, I will preface this by saying, I don't know for sure it's a scam.

Social Media Milestones

00:31:56
Speaker
So I'm not gonna name the Instagram account, but our buddy Rick calls me today and says, hey, I just got this great deal on um Ivory.
00:32:10
Speaker
on Walrus Ivory. And and it is and he he sent me the account. I'm like, yeah, I already follow these guys. I started following them like a week or two ago, because he's got some really nice like Walrus Ivory. And before you get excited about what's legal and what's not legal, I've already done a bunch of research. All of this stuff is fossilized Walrus Ivory that has been pre 1972 before the ban blah blah blah this is not you know just harvested they didn't just go out and kill walruses to get this ivory um it is legal but um ah Rick had sent them like 300 and whatever it was 350 bucks
00:33:02
Speaker
And then I talked to the guy and I'm like, Oh yeah, I'm interested in this piece in this piece. And he's got a whole bunch of pictures on his site. And then, uh, one of the blocks, Rick had already actually already purchased. And he said, he told me it was available. So I'm like, okay. And then.
00:33:21
Speaker
whatever, we've worked that out and I, there's like five, anyway, it was going to come to like 600 bucks, which is a bargain. Like if I were to buy this kind of ivory at blade show, I'd be looking at double that probably $1,200. It was a really, really screaming deal. So like this is really high end ivory, like a block of this ivory is in the two to $400 range, probably three to $400 like solid ivory in a block um which is very expensive not the molar that everybody sees this is solid ivory and
00:34:04
Speaker
but I go to pay the guy and PayPal kicks it back saying something about a scam. This is like, you know, we're we're canceling this based on the fact that it might be a scam. Now the guy gives me a different email, same thing. I'm like, hmm. Then he gives me, oh, and I say, what about Zelle? You see, he gave me something that made sense because Ricks went through and then I try Zelle. Chase Bank kicks it back.
00:34:34
Speaker
on a Zell transfer because of a possible scam. And I'm like, okay, red flags all over the place. I call Rick and saying, you know, that I'm worried there's red flags. I'm not going forward with this until he gets his. um And then he calls the guy and I can't even explain all the, like he called the guy, finally got a phone number and there's all kinds of drama. and the guy and his son and whatever. Anyway, I don't think Rick's gonna see any of this ivory and I think he's out the 350 bucks. So be careful what you buy on the internet is the, is the moral of that story. And I'm glad I did not put together. And the other thing is the guy kept saying, oh, I only wanna do 500,
00:35:29
Speaker
on PayPal, he can only do 500 because he set a limit. I'm like, I've never heard of that, that you can't send more than 500. And he would only do it if I sent it from friends and family. And folks, if someone demands that you send something friends and family, it's really hard to dispute that. You're basically saying that you trust this person if it's friends and family. So if you don't know the person, never send anything friends and family because then you can't really dispute it with PayPal.
00:35:58
Speaker
because it's not it's not a company, right? that's what That's what part of those fees go to when you, you know, those PayPal fees is they can dispute something, but you're basically waiving those rights um if it's friends and family. Yeah, that guy just followed a bunch of us. The triple T. Yeah, there's no yeah there's no doubt. Yeah. but
00:36:28
Speaker
um and And maybe it's not a scam. Maybe Rick will get his blocks, but there was red flags, oh plenty. And the guy needs to figure the shit out because it was way too hard to pay him. And if it really is legit, he's still got too many roadblocks for any of this.
00:36:52
Speaker
So yeah, I think I might've dodged a bullet there. But I'm also sad that I'm not gonna get five amazing blocks of ivory for 600 bucks. But it looks cool. Yeah. Yeah. But it's not like I need more handle material, but you never know. Yeah. Okay, that's what Yeah, yeah, that's the guy. That's the guy.
00:37:18
Speaker
Yeah, maybe he's listening. I don't know. But if he is, figure shit out. Make sure those blocks go to Rick or we're going to put you on a last blast. Yes.
00:37:32
Speaker
Or we'll apologize for all this unfortunate conversation. Right. If it's legit. Yeah, for sure. All right. What's up? Get at me.
00:37:44
Speaker
So I had to clean up. Speaking of IG account, I had to take so I had a couple of people I've been trying to push my my stuff off and I gave my Instagram account out to um a handful of people. Oh, and let's see if it's still accurate. Oh, I'm sorry. Yep. Officially, I hit 1600. Is it is it 1600 on the nose? Because maybe I'll unfollow you. Yeah, it would if anyone does unfollow me. Yes. I will go down to 1599 for the fucking for the fucking fifth time. I'm putting you on blast everyone unfollowed. yeah
00:38:28
Speaker
or if you follow in this damn show and you don't follow me then rack it up a couple and then unfollow me because that'll be even more emotional yeah but it was pretty cool the the 1600 follower was uh was uh Brent's wife and I said but what All of a sudden now she's like, I thought I was following you already. That's ah that's a pity fault. Yeah, I think so. I think so. I was a dude, I'd been going up and then dropping down five or six. It's been it's been a crazy couple of weeks. So but I'm sitting sitting good right now. ah That's great. But um I was giving out my Instagram account and I had a couple of people go like, What is like,
00:39:11
Speaker
the IG weekly post that we do. It was just literate throughout my feed. What do you mean? It's all like on here. You know, when you're just going through like that, it was just all triple T triple T triple T triple T because apparently I'm not posting that much stuff. And so I cleaned it up. I I got rid of all that. So here's the question. Do you collaborate with, I know there's the triple T podcast. Do you collaborate with echo blades on that? You do. I do. I wasn't sure. Yeah. Well, the, the, the IG accounts still growing, right? So we're 3, 400 followers or something like that. So with the years in mind, we're just trying to get it seen by as many as we can with all
00:40:02
Speaker
of my probably actual 500 followers and 1,550 bots.
00:40:10
Speaker
Wait, the math didn't work. Yeah. 50 followers, 50 real friends and 50. Oh my god, shut up, you get it. Fuck, you nerd. Hey, it's not my fault, you can't add. It doesn't matter.
00:40:26
Speaker
It doesn't make you any smarter than I'm dumb, okay? Just remember that, okay? Blowing my candle out doesn't make your shine any brighter, buddy. Just remember that. That's a good one. That's a good

one. That's right. um But yeah. And then... Yeah, now I feel like it's some echo blades. It's what? Now I feel like there's echo blade stuff on my echo blades account. Good.
00:40:55
Speaker
So I so I got a story. So when was it yesterday? I guess it was yesterday or was it it was see the days are like melding together. It was either yesterday or today. I think it was yesterday. It was yesterday. I get Yeah, today's money. So it was it was Sunday. I get a call. And this also connects with my maker spotlight for today. I get a call from one of my favorite people that I talked to almost one of the one of the guys I talked to pretty frequently, which is Spencer from Heavy Forge. Good dude. Very good dude. And Spencer is on he is the guest on the hustle and guy grind podcast this week.
00:41:41
Speaker
Nice. So yeah, so you should all go listen. to fra Spencer's a good friend of mine and he's up in Alaska, a really good dude. I've been up to Alaska and and how to had breakfast with him and his wife, which is a good story. um First time I met him after we had talked online for ages, but you know we've gotten to know each other and we've talked many, many times on the phone.
00:42:10
Speaker
and uh he's been part of all our challenges and just just a solid dude really good really good dude and uh he we wanted i wanted i wanted him to go to blade he was all set up to go to blade show this year he got injured couldn't go to blade show and then i said well you get better and why don't you come down here to california which is still maybe in the works he's got to see how his His physical therapy and all that stuff goes but we're hoping in the spring He's going to come down and we're just kind of playing it by ear So really hope that that happens with love to see spencer But all of that so spencer calls me and i'm not going to give it away. I think you all need to go and listen to the hustle and grind podcast but I get a call from spencer and that This is how You know
00:43:05
Speaker
I don't know what the term is. Down to it, this is how cool this guy is. He calls me and he's like, okay, I just did the Hustle and Grind podcast. And I said something on the podcast that I've never said before openly. And he was worried about what my reaction was because you know we're friends and stuff. And he said, I've never told another maker this story. And I openly told it on the Hustle and Grind podcast.
00:43:35
Speaker
And I was like, I'm kind of, you know, I'm not, and I'm like, come on Spencer, I've heard a million stories that the years does not throw me at all. I'm honored, that's not the right term, but I'm, you know, I find it's funny that you're worried about my reaction to the story and that you wanted to call me right after you were worried about my reaction right after the,
00:44:03
Speaker
Um, the taping of that episode. So you all need to go listen to hustle and grind. I know what it is. You do know what it is. Yeah. He thought you're gay and not Canadian. yeah
00:44:16
Speaker
i'm mere dick yeah um We all know this Spencer. You don't feel guilty. It's okay. No, I'm right okay. Okay. I'm just kidding. I'm just Canadian and um But I'll go listen to the house on Bob grind podcasts Spencer's a ah good friend solid guy um Great family. I've met his wife. I've met his kids um Really good, dude. Yeah, you don't follow Spencer and He is at Heavy Forge, so heavy underscore Forge, and that's because he's a heavy equipment mechanic. And if you look at him, he looks like he lifts heavy equipment trucks for a living because he is built. He is a, you know, he works out, you can tell. That's part of the story of Hustle and Grind. So go listen to the Hustle and Grind podcast and check it out. And go follow Spencer at Heavy Forge.
00:45:17
Speaker
this week and all weeks. It's a good show. Good dudes there too. For sure. They had a cool episode last week. They had a bunch of the boys, the boys, yeah. yeah That was good that's good. That was one of the things I think I have, I haven't been listening to a lot of podcasts for whatever reason, um kind of behind on on some stuff, but being in the shop for you know some time,
00:45:46
Speaker
It was good. It was good to have some content to listen to, you know, some maker stuff while I was, you know, hand sand and doing, you know, doing some things. And I got to um barely listen to it. I think it was yesterday, actually. But it was a good show. So check those boys out. I'm excited. Yeah, I'm about to do a ton of hand sanding. So I'm trying to rack up a few podcasts to listen to.
00:46:12
Speaker
It's cool. It's it's an interesting thing when people are so I'm buying a couple episodes or you know, oh I'm all caught up on Triple T now and it's cool because you know, there's there was there's times where I'm in on every show right when they come out and then there's times where I'm two or three behind and I get to catch up and it's cool to have a nice chunk of shit to to yeah take in when you're there. And it I think for all of us, it all depends on where you are in your shop, like as in in your build process. Yeah. Right? Like if you're doing forging and a whole bunch of shit that you can't listen to podcasts. Yeah, it's not the best time. We're at the grinder. you know It's not and a good one. But if you're drilling holes or you know hands in and are doing handle work, there's a lot of lot of good time that you can do it. so
00:47:03
Speaker
that's cool. So, um you know, also speaking of like, yeah handle materials and all that good stuff. And I already talked about getting my my Tobin jig from Maritime Nice Apply. We also had a couple of shout outs to Donny D.
00:47:21
Speaker
posted a pic of him getting busy on his Tobin jig already. OK, I get an update on that, Donnie, how that worked out for you. But if you were looking for anything knife making supply wise, make sure you go check out Maritime Knife Supply. They got everything that you need. The steel handle material, braces, grinders, ovens.

confirming that the AVS intro bladesmith scholarship that was opened up to 16 through 30 applicants. Um, that deadline was up on December 1st. So, um, yeah I don't know if we find, I don't know. Yeah, I ah missed it in several arenas, but I don't know when we find out if, or we find out who won, but whoever that was is, you know, that's an awesome opportunity. And, uh, again, thanks.
00:48:46
Speaker
Thank you, Lawrence, for all that you're giving back to the community. so Yeah, he even got a a ah shout out from my wife. if ah like i So last week's Triple T, I did a shop tour. i didn't That was Thanksgiving. Yeah, I missed it.
00:49:07
Speaker
Yeah. Well, you've seen the shop enough times. You don't need the shop tour, but I could have gave the shop to her. you did it I just decided, hey, like I haven't done one in a while. It's been over a year or so. I did a shop tour and then different. Yeah. And then Kim decides, hey, I know what I'm going to do. She goes, I want to do my version of the shop tour.
00:49:29
Speaker
And you've seen the video, right? it was It was great. Yeah. So she decides she's going to go around and talk about her opinions on everything in the shop. And then of course, at the end, she did her little, of course, she calls it Mary time, not maritime.
00:49:44
Speaker
Marry time. He's the best though. That was all all pure 100% authentic Kim right there. That was good stuff. But I think I've created an animal now because she's I won't say she's hooked on Instagram, but she's like she keeps the next day. She's bugging me like oh we got to do our next video. We got him like honey just chill. We just did that video yesterday.
00:50:10
Speaker
She's already got her next video planned. And she's like, Oh, and this is how we're going to stage it. And this is what we're going to do. That's cool. Yeah, that's cool. That was good. Look for more from the hashtag knife wife soon. Yes. And no, no, I don't think your wife can coin the the knife wife and phrase. He sent me a message going, my wife ah coined that phrase. I'm like, ah Kim's been talking about that for many, many years. I don't know. I dispute.
00:50:46
Speaker
You dispute. I want to see a fight. I want to see. Yeah. as I think you're a full of shit. Noah was there first. Oh, yeah. You just you just want to argue the opposite. I must insist in the opposite direction. Anybody gets that movie quote. I'll give a high five to you. That's one of the greatest movies ever. Well, I don't get it, but it's not as good as Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. i No, it is far better.
00:51:15
Speaker
You know what's even better than that? Tell me, dude. Getting a hammer at two bastards. That's what's better. Having a fat peen in your hand, that's better. That's grand. It's grand. That's grand. Whether it's fat, straight, curved, wavy, every peen. All the peens. If you need a hammer for forging, for just looking cool. Oh, wavy peen instead of curve. Yeah. Because then then you can you don't even need the ladder dies on your press. You could just hammer.
00:51:51
Speaker
You could put a chevron peen on your hammer and then you don't need the Frank get busy wavy curve chevron beans on the scene. Here we go. You can be the pain on the scene. that's right ah But seriously, folks, get your hammer at two bastards, Texas Smithian supplies, go talk to Frank Anita, they will set you up. Absolutely.
00:52:20
Speaker
Absolutely. That's dead air, Dennis, in case you're aware.
00:52:27
Speaker
so <unk> there That's what we're not supposed to have happen on this thing. this utter they're the best to du
00:52:39
Speaker
See, this is what you get. Quality entertainment from master. I mean, for real, you you were bringing it. You were doing a great read with the wavy pain. And then I just thought you were going to take over on the next one. That's great. ah That's called the handoff. Oh, man. So yeah, I don't know about you, but did you take any advantage of the amazing Black Friday or cyber sales that anybody had out this week? um No.
00:53:08
Speaker
right I, this is probably the first black Friday slash cyber Monday that I didn't do anything. I normally am a sucker for those things and uh, and I didn't do it, but I'm hoping that all of our listeners did take advantage of.

00:57:38
Speaker
Nady.
00:57:41
Speaker
Uh, yes, I have Spencer from heavy Forge. Who do you have Jared? I have a gentleman named Derek. ah What is that? Shoots. Shoots. Help me. Hmm. Is he up Shits Creek? Is it shit? Shoots. Shoots. Shoots. Derek shoots. Anyways, he has a ah Instagram handle of fidget things. and He currently has 26,000
00:58:09
Speaker
ish followers. Um Disney like I came across uh it came up on my feed the other day and I just I had to to spotlight this guy. He's obviously got a a pretty big following already but he just makes some seriously awesome fidgety things. Uh these chill pills um that you can get. They're some kind of like a magnet type ah deal, but you can custom make the materials on either sides of them with colors, aluminum, titanium, I think now there's now like a 3d printed budget option, um different textures,
00:58:52
Speaker
Um, and just fucking fidget till your fidgeters soar. Um, because there's, there's so much coolness and and I'm a guy that, you know, one of the, I think I was talking to you not too long ago about like folding knives.
00:59:14
Speaker
I mean, honestly, the action is where it's at. I mean, are you just endlessly flick the folder for the fidget factor. Right. I cut some boxes and and I've fidget the shit out of them. But these little pocket things, I think, has something called like an S.O.B. like the slider magnet things that you can spin around in your hand all day long. You just got endless shit. But if you're not checking them out, go give them a follow um or check out his stuff. I am planning on grabbing.
00:59:44
Speaker
either the sob or a chill pill um very soon here because i'm just totally digging what this guy's doing so um yeah yeah i like the sob the little sob's but i'm scrolling down like he's been doing this for a while like uh-huh i'm like 10 pages down on his uh instagram yeah Yeah, he's got fidgeties like spinners like it's it's really cool. And it's all precision milled machine stuff and just dudes doing some really awesome stuff. So if you're not checking them out, ah go give them a follow. And I'll tell him Jared at Triple T thinks he's super cool.
01:00:24
Speaker
Hmm and he's he's done some damascus. Maybe i'll reach out to this guy. So if we do a collab Send him some damascus. Oh my god dennis far I found you all by myself there derrick. I'm just scrolling their instagram Well certainly not going to mention you now you want to collab with me, man

01:01:05
Speaker
Anyways, yeah, that's who I got. And I'm I'm happy about that one. That's a cool one. Yeah. there's go And not really in our, you know, our normal wheelhouse. So it's good to reach out or, you know, branch out. That's what I was thinking about. Like we're we're here to spotlight makers, not just particularly knife makers, which we we love and we do all the time. But there's some maker variety is pretty vast, so.
01:01:31
Speaker
Very cool. Coolness. Yeah. So you sure? I don't know. You sure you don't want to go to Canada next week? I do, actually. I really do. I'm actually kind of bummed, because I could actually... I'm still gonna have you bring a knife to sell for me while you're there, because I have a customer in Toronto. You do? I do. I'll drop it off. Yeah.
01:01:58
Speaker
I was a um will finalize that sale this week. All right, yeah, I'll be in Toronto on two. Next, wait, wait what's when's the 14th? Toronto? No. How do you say Nevada? Nevada. OK, how do you say Toronto? OK, you can tell you're not. Toronto has one T and it's at the beginning. Is it Nevada? Toronto, T-R-O. Toronto. Toronto.
