It's more of a character from the Bible. and so I have been doing some studying on the character of Elijah. um So Elijah comes into the scene. we have We have King Ahab. He's the king. He's done some really bad things. He has done worse than any king up to that point has ever done.

um And he's kind of running the country into, you know, bail and worshipping the bails and worshipping all these idols. He's gotten himself a pretty wicked wife and just, it's pretty bad time.

yeah so So here we have Elijah. He comes onto the scene and he basically declares there's going to be a drought and he just goes away. That's pretty much how it goes. And then there's this drought that happens. And God takes care of Elijah through the drought. He feeds him um by ravens, bringing food to him and water from a brook. And then, of course, the brook dries up because there's no water for three years.

that happens um so he goes back to uh back into town he meets this lady and this widow and he helps that that that family in that situation and then he comes back onto the scene and he shows up to one of um uh ahab's uh servants and the servant is like please tell me that you're not going to disappear like you normally do like just be around so that i don't get in trouble and kill it because i saved some of the profits um which if you hear that phrase makes you question some of the things that Elijah says later on because he says that there's nobody and there's prophets that were saved so add some questions to his complaints but then he has a huge he invites Ahab to bring all the children of Israel they all go to Mount

um to the Mount Carmel, they're all there, and the Baals, and he says basically, choose you this day who you're going to serve, we're going to have a test, we're going to see if Baal answers and burns up this altar or if God's going to answer. um And so bail the Baal prophets spend all this time dancing around, cutting themselves, and Elijah gets to taunt him quite a bit, and he's like, Maybe he's sleeping. Maybe he's going to the bathroom. Maybe he's away. You know, maybe he just doesn't hear. If you just scream louder, maybe he'll hear you. All the while, the light is going. There's no such thing. um And of course, nothing happens. And finally, I think the children is you'll just get bored with whatever's going on over there and they're like alright Elijah give it a go and Elijah goes just give me some water all right so he just has these guys pour water all over the altar which should not burn like if you've ever messed with water at all and dump it on anything

It doesn't light. um If you had any trying to fire starting and after a huge rainstorm, it does not light. It does not want to burn. And he prays and it has a huge fire and it licks up the water that he made in a trough. It's just this awesome sign of God. He then has all the children of Israel put all the people to death and kill them off and kill off these prophets who have Betrayed and acted against God and there's commandments that you shouldn't be leading God's people away from others So there's the reason why he does it and then he runs back and beating King Ahab to Jerusalem um with supernatural power by the Holy Spirit given to him to run fast gets in there and then um Jezebel the next day says

You're going to kill you. I'm going to take you out. if you If you survive the day, you will die. And Elijah, after coming off this huge victory, who he thought all these expectations had all these high expectations. God was going to take back the kingdom. This was the turning point. Everything has changed. God's done some awesome things. And then... It doesn't happen. He gets told that he's going to die and he needs to and he panics instead of going, you know, God has been through this. God will take care of me. God's not going to kill me off like God is going to restore this. He panics and he runs away, runs off.

And then God has to take care of him because he's just like, I want to die. I don't want to be here anymore. There's nobody else. It's just me as somebody who can be very emotional and be in the emotions of a rough, hard time. I completely understand where I was coming from to have that ah emotion change.

So he's frustrated, he's he thinks everything's gone bad and God feeds him and takes care of him and has him sleep and then he restores he he has him go to another mountain and and passes by and speaks to him and has all these crazy things, the fire and the storm and all this stuff goodbye and then he speaks to Elijah in a still small voice.

and tells him, you're not alone. You've never been alone. I'm always here. And besides that, there's so many people who believe that have never bowed the knee to Baal, that have never trusted in him. And I'm going to give you three people who, through your ministry, is going to line up how we're going to take back the kingdom. And Baal is going to be wiped off the face of the earth. It's not going to be a problem.

ah And so God gives him this promise. And so God is faithful through all of Elijah's time. If you can see anything through the story of Elijah, it's God's faithfulness to his people. He cares for a Elijah. He's with Elijah. Even when Elijah is riding the roller coaster and he's up and he's down and he's all over the place, God is still constant. God is still with him right next to him, carrying him, supporting him, and helping him as he goes through a life that um that is all to honor and glorify God anyway. So even when his expectations were dashed, his hope was dashed, God still cares for him as with him. So even when we're going through struggle of times, we're going through tough times, maybe you're on the valley, um God is with you. When you're on the mountain top, remember God is with you there too. Even when your wins, even in your successes, God is with you. Don't forget him when things are going well. Because usually when we forget him when things are going well, the valley comes.

um We want to be with him and follow him and be on fire for him at the top, at just as when we're at the bottom. We're always trusting him and we're constant, away because he's constant. He loves us so much that, you know, thousands of years later from this story, he sent his only son to die on a cross for us so that we could be with him one day and walk with him every day, to be with him every day, to serve with him. We like to think that everything is going to come together and we'll get to be you know so close with God in heaven, and that's true. We will. But we can work on that now. We can be with him now and trust him now, and it will be so much more glorious when we see him face to face, when we're with him and we're in step with him.

um All of our society in our day and age is designed to distract us from what's important. What's important is God. What's important is God's word that he's c created, ah the things he's created, the stuff that's around us, the joy that we can find. We find so much wasted time in our screens and what we see every day and wasting our time on our phones and our Instagrams and our Facebooks. And we don't spend time acknowledging and being with the creator and spending time with him.

It kind of fits where God stands for. um The historians have actually discovered them in Carmel. There were underground networks on those mountains where when they would stand in the mountain and, not in that day, but in general, and say, oh, Baal, release your fire, there were hollows in the rocks where people underground would actually light a fire and then it actually would appear.

So it was a very specifically chosen challenge and because people had seen this, had seen fire coming from the mountain. So people were convinced that this demon was real and was all-powerful, more powerful than Jehovah or Yahweh, whatever you want to call him, because they see with their eyes fire our coming from the mountain.

So not only do you have the demon being defeated, and the prophets embarrassing themselves while at the ground, but it's possible that there are even prophets underground trying to set a fire, but it just kept on failing. So even though with the enemy's tricks, deception, and manipulations, God is still sovereign. God is still absolutely good.
