Katie Higgins: microphone today Welcome back to We Have Thoughts, the podcast where Emily and I have a cocktail catch up on our lives and somehow we discover.
Katie Higgins: Not somehow we discover, somehow. Discover. that we have extremely strong opinions. That's hysterical. We know we have extremely strong opinions about things we did not know we cared about. Ain't that the truth? I didn't know that I cared so much about mistrials.
Katie Higgins: It's been a heavy day. It's been a day. It has been a heavy, heavy day. Super heavy day. Okay. Also, occasionally we do talk about things that we do actually know something about, which again.
Katie Higgins: I'd say it's more often than not. we're just some what we've We've got some wise... years in experience under our belts. As I always tell Jess, I'm jack of all trades, master of none. You do say that. I know just enough about things. So. To be passable. You say that, and...
Katie Higgins: Oh, where's my drink? It's right in front of you. It's behind the microphone. Oh, my microphone was covering it. Okay. So today we are, we've got our microphones like propped up because we've got like some little things going on here. We have a smorgasbord of.
Katie Higgins: Drinks and delight. Drinks and delights, yes. um ah Okay, so. Last week. first first week we had martinis second week we had martinis brought to us by uh miss emily sheer today though lit book bar has their fall menu out so we are both drinking Autumn Old Fashions. So a quick moment for a... We'll do a cheers first before I just start. And then um a plug for...
Katie Higgins: The bookend that we're sitting in. because ah Jill is so nice to let us record here because it is. really pretty. And if you have not been. if Exactly. ah The bookend is located at Jackson 7th in downtown Richmond.
Katie Higgins: And it is literally the bookend of shops. Yes, I love that. And um you can rent it out for private events. and Comedy nights are really fun. um They do mahjong nights here. Yes. I think, like, if you, so. I could host a birthday party, a Christmas party, um a craft event or your art event of sorts. But it's great. It really is.
Katie Higgins: And it's not, air it's not so big that it's overwhelming and it's just big enough that you can have a nicer event than maybe you would be able to do at your house. yeah Like size wise, like not saying like, you know.
Katie Higgins: Size -wise is what I mean. Because it's good for what? like 20 to 30 people i feel like we could you could do more because okay four you know i'm not going to try and do math while we're recording. I would say 20, 30 people. You wouldn't want to do much more than that. I'm very bad at gauging those types of things. You're good, but you, you are an event. you Yeah. You are an event person though. So I feel like that is something you could gauge.
Katie Higgins: Okay. So... um What was it you were, you called it? manifestation oils? No. Yeah. Manifestation oils. Yes. And then the other day we were talking about something and you said about of doing visualizations. Yes. And.
Katie Higgins: I do love a manifesting moment. of manifestations. affirmations Here's what I'm going to tell you. Without us even... trying. to remember that we promised. that we were gonna figure out.
Katie Higgins: Coke and peanuts? we had coke and peanuts we didn't even try we didn't even try we totally just manifested that So we've got a lot of... And it wasn't until we got the show notes for today's show...
Katie Higgins: yeah show' For today's show. Yeah. That we were reminded, oh, yeah. We were going to do that. We did say that. We did say that. What would the world be like without - I don't know if we're going to do it correctly. Shut GPT. Mostly because neither one of us has ever done it. We don't. But we do have peanuts and Coke. Exactly. um We were unclear.
Katie Higgins: we okay yes so we talked to this is according to emily and emily tends to know these things okay This is a very southern thing. Peanuts and Coke. Like true south. I wouldn't say Texas south. True south. Oh, so more of like a deep south situation. Mississippi, Alabama. Like a true south. Okay. Okay.
Katie Higgins: So... We were just reading about it. Was it? And was Julia reading it to us? No, I think I pulled it up. Okay. But... it's about back in the early 1900s.
Katie Higgins: Okay. Maybe. ah It was a glass bottle of Coke. Okay. And a jar of. Roasted salted peanuts. Okay. Now we have a Coke Zero. Yes.
Katie Higgins: Because it's 2026. Exactly. um And. plastic cups plastic cups and We have shelled. some peanuts.
Katie Higgins: But we didn't know. Yeah. Okay. Is the shell part of it? Because that is the significantly salted part. But I think they were talking about like a jar of just.
Katie Higgins: the roasted peanut. And you pour the Coke on that? No, you pour the peanuts into the jar. Into the jar. So we have shelled. some peanuts But we also threw a shell in.
Katie Higgins: Because we're unclear where the salt is. Exactly. So let's let's partake. um You know, because why not? Why not? Well, it's very fizzy with the... It is very fizzy. with the ah salty peanuts. This is, I'm so, and then do we eat the peanuts? Yes. It was like a snack.
Katie Higgins: Oh. So I don't think I will maybe. eat them because i'm one of those people that doesn't like to hear people eat and i'm um i might oh yeah yeah But yeah. I wonder if I was supposed to take the papers off the peanuts. I i really don't understand. We don't really know what's happening. we're just And if you have had.
Katie Higgins: ah peanuts in your coke we're gonna need you to comment. i tell Come hold our hand. Basically. I feel like this can't be bad. I like salt. I do too. I like Coke. I like peanuts. And I like peanuts. And I like snacking when I have a nice little yes treat drink.
Katie Higgins: Yep. Right? Yeah. Okay, so we're just going to sip it first, okay?
Katie Higgins: Doesn't really taste any different to me. Oh, it does to me. Really?
Katie Higgins: I get it got You gotta show. a shell on my face here I get it. You get it? I get it. Okay. You just. ate the papers and everything? I did. okay i did i'm gonna do it i'm gonna do it this is but this is when you know that you're a coke person Are you okay?
Katie Higgins: Um... Because number one, first of all. I've been drinking almost exclusively diet. Cherry Coke. fruit. all summer. and most of the spring. I do like this is the fact that this is a Coke Zero. I'm instantly like, oh.
Katie Higgins: This tastes different. Okay. but there is i like it i can see why like if you were out doing labor of some sort.
Katie Higgins: And you're very hot. You're hot, you're hungry, you're tired, you need an oomph. so You need some, you need some. Sodium. Okay. Our video has glitched, but it looks like our sound. It does. Okay.
Katie Higgins: It looks like our sound is still okay. I like this. Okay. I can see why people do this. i I think if I try this again. I think I would like it with a Diet Cherry Coke though. I can see the cherry with the peanuts definitely working. Kind of like a PBJ, really.
Katie Higgins: In a weird way. In a weird way. What I... dislike about this is the paper but i think i mean not not paper it's that's like the skin of the peanut Peanut. Not the shell, but the...
Katie Higgins: Interesting. well i'm gonna put you down as not a fan I'm also going to put this down as this is one of your like. Hang up things. Well, that is a texture situation. Taste was fine.
Katie Higgins: Yeah, the this is a hang -up situation for you. The paper... not paper, whatever. floating around in my mouth was a problem.
Katie Higgins: definitely was a problem. Yeah, didn't like that. Let me go back. to my old fashioned. Okay. I also do love that you're an old fashioned girl. Not a lot of. Girls drink. Like bourbon, you know, brown liquor, all that.
Katie Higgins: I've only been. a an old -fashioned girl. I don't know. I'm new as well. Like we within the last three years. Yeah! three or four years you were you were drinking it before i was um Jamie and Adam, who used to have this space, right Family Style Designs, they used to have me come for their Christmas event and create cocktails. Okay. So one year.
Katie Higgins: I knew Justin really liked old -fashioned. Okay. And I have a cookbook from this fabulous restaurant based out of the UK. It's called Dishoom. It's coming to New York, I think, next year. Oh, okay. And I'm very excited about it. If you love.
Katie Higgins: um Indian food, it is it is divine. and go to every dishoom in the UK because they each have their own. Like separate specials. Oh, like special thing. Oh, I love that.
Katie Higgins: i do love that one so i have their cookbook and in that cookbook i have so the first time i ever ate there was the night I went and saw the Spice Girls in Edinburgh. What a day. And it was like, Justin is still talking about this dinner. Oh, wow. I mean, he saved the receipt. He made notes on the receipt. It was the best meal of his life. And you said Indian food. Okay. And I can see where bourbon with Indian food would be.
Katie Higgins: Incredible. So while we were there. And I'm really hoping. that this is not. a chargeable offense. I stole. a menu. Ah! from their bar, which is called the permit room.
Katie Higgins: The permit room? The permit room is the name of their bar. Okay, cute. I like it. And I stole one of their menus because it was the most beautiful menu I'd ever seen. Okay. It was like a graphic artist's dream. okay and everything. I had the best drink of my life that night.
Katie Higgins: And what it was, it was tasked. I suppose it's the best way to put that okay and put on a shelf for at least a month.
Katie Higgins: And then they pour it over ice and it was divine. And so I bought the cookbook. Oh, wow. And I finally did it. And it is a. bay leaf and brown sugar and green tea syrup that you make and you pour that with whiskey and it sits for at least a month so usually about the first of october i will make like this type of syrup i will make a gallon of it uh -huh
Katie Higgins: With the whiskey. And I put it up. and it sits so by December 1st or Thanksgiving oh my gosh we can then have just old fashions with the bay leaf and it's with the brown sugar wow that does sound really good it is so good now I'm oh wow it is yeah So I will say. Yeah, that sounds amazing.
Katie Higgins: We're going to have to make them. I can't wait till you make them. But that is what turned me on to old fashions. Wow. I can. um you know That was the same trip that I discovered I liked gin my whole life. I lived thinking that gin was Bombay.
Katie Higgins: which no offense to the Bombay drinkers out there, I hate. I can't say that. i And you know what? Tanqueray is a gin, right? I don't like Tanqueray. Thank you. Oh no. But turns out many. ah they The gyms out there have been getting a bad name because of Bombay or Beefeaters or Tank. Yeah. And I don't like those. Yeah. Okay. And it was on that trip where I realized I actually.
Katie Higgins: Really like Jen. Really like Jen. Really like Jen. I just don't like. really um What's the word I want? That kind of like juniper. forward okay Where it tastes like a Christmas tree. like and I mean, I know what you're talking about, but I don't know what to say to describe it. Because definitely when I. get a gin that's i'm gonna say like extremely florally I don't like it.
Katie Higgins: There's a French gin I think you would quite like. Is that what you're talking about? Maybe floral is the wrong word because I like that purple one. The Empress Djinn. Oh, yeah. And you know they have a pink one now. Oh, no.
Katie Higgins: That's beautiful though. Rhubarb? Oh! i love a rhubarb but there's a french gin called esme that's a really nice kind of it's not too floral it's not too citrusy it just kind of sits in the middle and it's a really oh and think you would quite lie okay Um, yeah, sometimes I feel like spiraled off into this. I know. I feel like gin can sometimes taste like a cleaning product, you know, it tastes like pine salt. smells like Yes. Okay. Yes. And not knocking pine salt.
Katie Higgins: I don't mind my house smell smelling that way, but I don't want to drink it. I don't want to drink it. No, I really don't. i really don't. There's this really nice orange one with Sevilla oranges.
Katie Higgins: And it's it's also really good. I could go on for a long time. I real i mean, anything with like a hint of orange, I'm going to be. yeah i'm gonna be a fan of yeah definitely yeah i just don't like it when it's too like Yeah, like I taste like I'm cleaning something. yeah Yeah. And so florally is the wrong word because I do like the impression. Right. But I. don't yeah okay Well there you go.
Katie Higgins: Gen thoughts with Emily and Katie. There's a new podcast coming out. Exactly, exactly. listen like like like Like our chat GPT outline said, we have very strong thoughts about things we didn't know we had very strong thoughts about. um I do have very strong thoughts, though, about Sophie's incredible.
Katie Higgins: Incredible show. on saturday her pop -up it wasn't a show but like she put it on you know She knocked it out of the park. She really did. She did. so we Sold out, basically. Yeah. like No. I mean, there was like, what, two bracelets left, maybe? Yeah. So that's a sellout.
Katie Higgins: two bracelets and I think just a couple of eyeglass chains. But. The amount of pre -orders though. Custom orders that we had to walk away with. Custom orders. So like.
Katie Higgins: Yeah. Wow. So I was. This is not even my child. I know. And I'm watching her And I'm just like. Oh, I have chills again. It's truly one of those things about owning the boutique over the last 10 years that I didn't know was going to be. One of my favorite parts was seeing other women. And now.
Katie Higgins: Other young women. Do something. exciting and um and brave and um i don't know lots of other words but you're her mom so you tell us all the things so she sold out and We.
Katie Higgins: ah I felt. As we were walking in and setting everything up. You know, God, I hope she sells it.
Katie Higgins: you i hope um and i'm gonna tell you i'm sitting there going you don't bring there's not enough like I'm not even going to post about this. Not because, not because, not in like a bad way, but like, but I'm not going to put this on stories because I already know there's people coming because we had been telling people. Right. And like, you know, my mom's the first one to show up and make a purchase. And so you're just feeling like, oh, okay. People are going to, you know, indulge this for a minute. And then I think your mom maybe was the second purchase. Yes. And bought a couple of the large totes. Yes. She's giving them away as gifts and one for herself. yeah And so, you know, I'm looking at it through a mom's eyes.
Katie Higgins: you know, this is so sweet. They're just indulging her and it's so sweet. And then we officially opened at 11. And it was bananas crazy. uhu Justin has been really on us. Oh, I love this. About bookkeeping. Okay. Because if y 'all, in case you forgot, Justin is the pilot. you know that keeps people alive in the sky. he We are the people that have cocktails.
Katie Higgins: He likes inside. Yes. Yes. We all need one. And I also have one that likes, he's like, she's making an income. We have to, you know, report all of this. It's going to be taxes. It's happening. Yeah. You're like my baby. Don't put taxes on her. So, so yeah. So we're having to handwrite all the receipts.
Katie Higgins: Oh, God. With carbon copies. Oh, okay. You were doing that as a thing. i'm yeah I'm thinking you're back there rewriting them. oh No, I am writing them actively and she is the sales person. Love it. And I think at one point I finally had to say, hey, like I need you to stop selling custom orders. Don't sell anything else.
Katie Higgins: You have school. Yes. Like, yeah. like It has been a gargantuan effort to get them done. To bring the last of the custom orders to the boutique tomorrow. Yes. Because. Like...
Katie Higgins: She has school. yeah and i think people maybe forgot that i mean When they were ordering, I was like, hey. I know. I know. Well... Um,
Katie Higgins: Even today. ah Then we kept getting messages. Hey, how do I place a custom order? I said, um you can message Emily on the Sophie Styles Instagram because. I'm not going to tell you no, but. I'm going to just send you to the right place. so next maybe So also to watch for future drops, all of the things. Yes.
Katie Higgins: Well, then I'm at. um me and or two other moms and I. My son, is Michael, has autism. I've talked about that on here. We go to a private school that's fantastic.
Katie Higgins: And the school's grown quite a bit. and our parent group last year that was just like a meet up and talk is now becoming more of a parent group well we had that this morning and I have my bag. My pink and orange. My incredible one. That is, I think, a one of a kind. It is. It is. I'm obsessed. You are the only one. That has it. That has it.
Katie Higgins: Love that. I am becoming more like Emily in that way. I don't want anyone to have what I have. Not anymore. I used to be flattered. There and there. And I am. Still, but there are certain things I'm like, nope.
Katie Higgins: um But... uh all the moms were like where did you get your bag did you make it i was like um No. No. ah But let me tell you who did. So.
Katie Higgins: You might be getting some messages. So, well, I will say. this weekend we have a big another one meeting No, a meeting.
Katie Higgins: um because like you justin and sophie No justice out of town. It's a creative meeting. Oh I love this. We have a creative meeting. yeah this weekend okay because she really wants to do a fall pop -up.
Katie Higgins: and has um i'm obsessed some new ideas of what she wants okay to make. And so we need to talk about. feasibility. Okay. Because, hey girlfriend.
Katie Higgins: You... Do have school. and And your parents do travel a lot. Well, and... um Can I say what you've been calling it or no? Sure. Okay. When you work in it.
Katie Higgins: Oh, my sweatshop? She calls it her sweatshop. So I do all of Sophie's, like, prep work. uh so i text so uh julia who runs the my company basically and let's be real i All I did was make messes this week because all I could do was watch the Lindsay Clancy trial and or the deliberations, which, oh my God. But anyways. We'll circle back. We'll circle back because that's... ah That's a whole. Yeah. um So Julia had an appointment this morning, though, that kind of came up that was very important. And I.
Katie Higgins: And it it's yeah it was at the time we would usually record. And so I texted him and I said, hey. could we could we adjust this and she goes well all i have on my um Todoist is work in the sweatshop and record podcasts. So just let me know.
Katie Higgins: And I was just like cracking up because what i do also buthop look at Emily. Like, this is just, there and look, it' so its it's just, and i so I just think it's so funny how Emily, what and she's like, well.
Katie Higgins: I've been in the sweatshop all day. And it i just it cracks me up. And I love that. I love something that makes me laugh. The AC in there actually is horrible. Oh, no. So it kind of is a sweatshop. Oh no.
Katie Higgins: But it's fine. Yes. so So we are very excited. We have a big brainstorming meeting this weekend. Oh, how darling. And deciding if we can get it done before Halloween. Sure. All of that. um So, yeah, we're going to. Well, you know. ek is always open but i'm also also know there are other businesses that would probably be uh on the ready to host her and probably have already asked, so.
Katie Higgins: i will allow it we're entertaining all offers i think you probably are Is my guess. People are probably like. um Well, because listen, I didn't have a bad day either. Hmm? So, not gonna lie, I appreciate that very much.
Katie Higgins: um But no, for real, and that's not about me at all. I'm so... watching her was really special yes and I've I've got had the privilege of watching my daughters do fun things like that too and So to get to see Sophie and like, I just think it's a great thing. And I think it's a really fantastic thing for girls to.
Katie Higgins: make experience and make their own money and like and also recognize that they can do it for themselves yes you know she hit her sales goal oh my gosh and so i was oh man i was so excited i did promise as long as she got her custom orders done um by tomorrow morning. uhuh We would go and she has her eye on a new bag.
Katie Higgins: listen Girl after my own heart. And so she will go and with her own hard earned money. Buy a new purse. Applause all around. You know? I love that And then i one thing I really love.
Katie Higgins: That you're doing is prioritizing that. treat, if you will. or um you know, because That is sometimes, or at least for us elder millennials.
Katie Higgins: I know when I first went into business with the boutique, It was a long time before I ever even paid myself. And because there was this like work, work, work, work, work. idea and More and more, I'm just like...
Katie Higgins: No! That's not what I want. To be fair, I don't listen to our bookkeeper and CFO, Justin Scherer, so. Well. You know? you know? That's why there's two parents.
Katie Higgins: That's why there's two parents. Thanks. Because usually they're a yin and yang type of thing. definitely a yin and yang. Yeah. Well, I love it. it went So exciting. It went well.
Katie Higgins: She hasn't thrown in the towel yet. She still wants to be, uh... Businesswoman. So it's it's going well. okay i love that i love that um i'm gonna be really uh honest here we're both looking at this um
Katie Higgins: outline right now and I don't understand this next part so I'm gonna skip it And we're going to talk about um Emily's outfit. because you know what i'm reading over this and i know what this is about what Well, because you were talking about that outfit. Oh, hat I do. Yes. with My lace outfit. So.
Katie Higgins: Okay. I want to number one, say thank you for... creating this podcast because oh it is forcing me every week.
Katie Higgins: to Tell me. um Work on my outfit. ah Well, they've been so good. at the past i mean i work really hard okay um okay okay emily sheer Emily Shearer.
Katie Higgins: I've never seen you wear a bad outfit. Ever. own There's a lot of thought that goes into them. But now that I'm not doing as much in the community and I'm just kind of, you know, working in this sweatshop. Yeah, yeah. Important work, important work. Important work. I...
Katie Higgins: don't necessarily pull myself together every day. Okay. And you know, I'm not going to the same amount of meetings I used to. um Okay. Sure. short retirement Sure. Sure. Um, I love that you already call it retirement. Well, I guess it is because I don't make an income.
Katie Higgins: Right. so Anyways. ah I'm only a little salty about the sweatshop. but She better buy you a bag. i know I'm really hoping my Christmas present this year is rolling in. i i'm a young But I'll, I'll, yeah. I kind of go into my like safe outfits. if you will okay because i did learn more about how you shop so i'm following this and you know i i think i'm very much a virgo when it comes to shopping okay Oh, we've got a...
Katie Higgins: We've got a leaf blower. So. i don't know if it's picking it up no idea we'll find out when i'm editing it this is fun Um... I...
Katie Higgins: like kind of very formulaic. safe. relatively conservative. outfits. And there have been times that your outfits have been a little too outside of the box for me. Okay.
Katie Higgins: And the only reason I'm making the face that I'm making is because Emily is the... It's just because it's so... I see you as like...
Katie Higgins: a style Like... Inspo. type of person. Like when I first met you, I know this is a, this is a lot. The most aggressive. Leaf blowing. I - And I'm going to say I've had, let's see, you've had a spot here.
Katie Higgins: since 2017 or 2018. This feels very impressive. And I was here since 2021. I've never heard it be this loud. I think he's moved on. maybe it was Maybe we have a new company or something doing the lawn work. This is very intense and it's not even fall.
Katie Higgins: I felt like he was going to come through the wall. I really thought he was going to. Like Mr. Kool -Aid style. Yes, yes. I just see you as such, I am so impressed with what you come up with. So that took the look on my face. like please no by it's not a look of judgment it's a look of more of like incredulous like Because I just see you as such a stylish person. I think because...
Katie Higgins: You know, we live out in suburbia. Sure. Right. And so the safe outfit is what always kind of gets put on. Okay. That's fair. Mom raised us right. like your Your outfit should always be ironed or steamed. you know Yes, adore your mother. It should fit appropriately. Get it tailored if you need to.
Katie Higgins: All of that. You should always look. hold together okay But i'm i'm I'm learning to take a few more chances. Okay. on things so I had this oversized blue button down it's a fantastic i bought it because you're supposed to be able to wash it in a hotel sink hang it up it's supposed to be perfect like no ironing necessary I'm not finding that to be true. Yeah.
Katie Higgins: ah really wanted it to be for obvious reasons. Sure. But it was like super boyfriend fit. Definitely. according to their slice chart. And then it came in.
Katie Higgins: We are now on another side. AHH! This isn't... TINTS! And seriously, My entire - your time of having a business here. I don't think it's ever been like this.
Katie Higgins: maybe it's because i'm not on the edge maybe and you were not i mean we were were the same spot so Yeah, I know!
Katie Higgins: What could it be? terrified right now I know He's like, oh listen, this leaf blowing is the Lord's work. But according to the sizing. Let me turn this off. I'm listening. and massive So every time I wear it, I just feel...
Katie Higgins: Like... A 90s mom, but not in a good way. Okay, sure, sure, sure. yeah I looked like a 90s mom and not in a good way for a long time. And so I learned this hack. this morning it's supposed to be with a shoelace But I didn't have a shoelace. So I had. Well, the scarf is cuter. The twilly is cuter. A little twilly scarf. And so it's kind of made it a very structural shirt. Now, is it going through the buttonhole? It goes through the button holes. Okay. And then there's ah a safety pin on the side.
Katie Higgins: And you lace it through and that's what gives it kind of a structural architectural look. Okay, I'm going to describe it for y 'all. So if you're watching the video, you can see she is wearing a collared button -down.
Katie Higgins: Church. Oxford. Is that what it's called? an oxford I don't know it I know. i'm gonna learn because of that book well and i think technically the button down refers to whether or not the colors button down and then knit with this he button up interesting so yes i think this might be an oxford Button up? interesting. oh we're going to learn all we are going to learn all the things and menswear i think is different. It was very different. Sure. Sure.
Katie Higgins: um okay so so anyway okay so then down here okay also she's wearing it with these darling pants that I love. they're ah The pants are like a... harem pant jogger situation.
Katie Higgins: From Primark. If anybody's gone to the new. I don't know what that is. It's over at Katie Mills. Because I don't like to go there. Julia almost got shot there. That's another story on for another day. there.
Katie Higgins: Well, just, you know, listen. Anyways, it's a... It's a British... store, okay shop, Primark is. Oh!
Katie Higgins: It's like a Marks and Spencer's, but I think it's even. less than a marx and spencer i don't know what a marx and spencer is it kind of like a target Like a monoprix. Like you like a monoprene. Yes.
Katie Higgins: I did learn what a monoprix was. So like that. Okay. Because when I was in Paris, I saw these fabulous. Pants. um There was a Chloe pair. She told me all about it and I was dying.
Katie Higgins: And I was like, is $1400 too much to spend on a pair of pants? And it turns out emotionally it was for me. These were 20. Yeah. That felt like a better price point for me. And I love a designer thing, but I'm not spending $1 ,400 on a statement paint. Yeah.
Katie Higgins: and Just not. Unless it's a really great trouser where I know I'm never going to gain weight for the rest of my life. 90 years. Right. Like you're going to be an old lady still wearing those trousers because I love a trouser.
Katie Higgins: right done in the right way a trouser is always good yes Agreed. So good. Okay. These were. $20 pants. Now I'm intrigued by this story. Do they have an online?
Katie Higgins: I don't know. okay Now, we will say when I went in a few weeks ago, the selection wasn't as great as the summer collection. Well, because it's an. UK brand in Katy, Texas.
Katie Higgins: yes and i'm gonna be really honest i'm not really feeling the fall winter trends this year really in because through so many of them are things I...
Katie Higgins: I have like. core memories wearing the first time it came around. yeah and if the kids start wearing double polos or triple polos they're gonna i'm leaving They're gonna. I'm gonna i'm just going to go to France and not come back until it's safe.
Katie Higgins: Well... From what you reported though, they're dressing like us. I am on a Western kick right now. I will tell you that. Bandanas are in. I, I, well, and my friend Summer.

Katie Higgins: Elotez, Texas. outside of San Antonio. Well, I know there's a there's a... dish that has corn in it that's called elote elote and maybe that's what i'm thinking Is it spelled that way?
Katie Higgins: no it's got an h at the beginning oh then I don't know. So. We're going to a concert out there. Okay. Following? weekend i think Okay. Okay. End. Peace.
Katie Higgins: Okay. Yes.
Katie Higgins: Steven Wilson, Jim. Oh. Is that like a... It sounds like he must be a famous person. That sounds like a famous name.
Katie Higgins: Just like Hank Williams Jr. And I like them. Yeah. But I just don't know much about him. Sure, sure, sure. So. Well, you know what I think I love about Western clothes and like all these things? You can just wear, they're super funky. I know. I mean, not like... some Westerners not funky.
Katie Higgins: But like. What's coming out right now in the Western is like. funky so you're getting this so summer oh yes um my friend summer teas kind of I know I do. Listen, squirrely, squirrely, squirrely.
Katie Higgins: And here's also because of how stressful today has been. being being an internet juror. Okay. Except not because the dang... Never mind. We'll get there.
Katie Higgins: I... have finished my beverage and i
Katie Higgins: nut Because I'm so taste. Well, you got your peanuts and Coke over here. well me out Let me have some peanuts and Coke. There is plenty more Coke in here. Okay. I'll just, well, I'll drink some of that. Yeah. I should have brought my vanilla vodka. over Would it be a delivery service? I think she could bring it to me. Let me ask her.
Katie Higgins: Just bring that over real quick. Um, So summer has... So summer has summer teas. And she has now also launched. Look at you. You really do like that. I'm getting hungry. Yeah, I get it.
Katie Higgins: And she has now launched. two new brands. Now she is also a legit cowgirl. And her husband and son are roping at NFR this year. And her husband her husband has roped at NFR numerous times.
Katie Higgins: And I have never been to an NFR, but I am going to need to go just for the people watching. Is that the one that's in Vegas? Eventually, it's in Vegas in December, early December. And from what I have heard, the fashion.
Katie Higgins: Is. Un. Real. And I just I want to go so bad. Julia has been because Julia does like. um like contract work with Summer at events.
Katie Higgins: And. And then Instagram, you like just watching the. um the people in their outfits. I'm like, Oh my God, I need to experience this. But also it's one of those things that like, I'm sure there's some Fantastic people watching. Fantastic humans with fantastic stories. I mean, anybody that puts themselves on a bull.
Katie Higgins: It's gotta be. An interesting human. My Uncle Rob was a rodeo clown. That is the. Best thing I've ever heard in my life. it's a pretty interest I got it. I got to know everything about that.
Katie Higgins: I don't remember. I mean, we never got to go see him as one. Oh. And he's got, you know. His whole body's like busted up. Oh, man. A rodeo clown. He was a rodeo clown.
Katie Higgins: Was he like in the barrel and everything? I think so. i mean mean He might have been one of the fence ones. where they jump up onto the the fence. why am i like this sounds like such a fun job in my 40s i know ah justin and so i'd get hit by a bull though because i don't run fast enough because we're squirrely people yeah i'm squirrely in my reflexes i wouldn't i'd get i'd be killed by the bull Oh.
Katie Higgins: i don't I don't know. You don't think so? No. Well, no, I'm thinking of myself. Okay. You're like me? 100%. She'd get killed. I think I'm just stubborn enough. You are. And...
Katie Higgins: um lucky enough you are just accidentally when i get stuck on it or something i feel like like like the longest time ever that's been on a bowl and she's like i just got stuck of pecos bill and his um the fiance she's got the girdle and she gets stuck on it or the bustle or whatever and the bustle gets stuck on it The Bunking Bronco? No, but...
Katie Higgins: Okay, only me. Okay, no, I love this. I love this. But what was I going to say? Oh, so Justin tells... um people sometimes that he he grew up in the country and i said you did i've heard you say this you did not he Or he did not. You grew up in Richmond.
Katie Higgins: yeah that's not the country and he goes well i went out to the country and i said that we did that is not that Now, meanwhile, my children will ask. um Mom, why is your whole family cowboys? And I don't have any cowboys in my family. Oh, how funny. But they were rodeo clones. well Well, one of them was. okay But I will say I have several family members that do raise cattle.
Katie Higgins: But I don't think of them. As cowboys. It's just their um industry. Yeah. like They don't. compete like they're not rodeo cowboys sure But they're rangers. And I mean, the kids will make fun of me because.
Katie Higgins: If I'm very tired, or if I've had a few too many, my Texas drawl comes out. Yes. You've heard it. I have. And
Katie Higgins: I try really hard. To rein it in? to rein it in but I sometimes it escapes me and um So, yeah. Not a cowboy, nor do I come from cowboys with the exception of the one rodeo clown, but he married in, he married in DD. Oh, okay. So, um,
Katie Higgins: But Justin will tell people. like honey. You are not alone. You did not grow up in the country. like an actual cowboy But I can tell you the only designer I know is the Double D Ranch, which originated in Yoakum. Okay. Which is where your dad is from. Okay. And that's the only outfitter I know of like.
Katie Higgins: Fabulous. things not to say that there isn't others no it's just what but that's the only one i know hold the microphone um So I'm excited to see Summer's line. I know. It's really cute. Um,
Katie Higgins: she's done a damn good job i know i'm really like I told her i texted her after. like the launch. And I was like, I'm just like, so freaking honored to like. be your friend, you know? Cause it was so cool to watch. Like similar to like what I said about Sophie, like it's just so cool. Cool.
Katie Higgins: to watch other Women. do things and just be like No, I'm... doing it. And you know what? Sometimes you fall flat on your face.
Katie Higgins: I have numerous times. And. That doesn't define you. You just go, oh, pivot. what's Then what did I learn from this? And move on. so This is also a... Perfect lead into the Lindsay Clancy trial, I feel like.
Katie Higgins: Amen. Because. We've made you wait long enough. We've made you. All right, listen. Listen. I'm going to need Julia to deliver that vanilla vodka probably. But. Like...
Katie Higgins: Oh! what we in our outline is like when did women start editing themselves right and like Well, have you have you watched Death of a Preacher's Wife? Pastor's Wife on Netflix? and Shut up. Okay, I did too. Okay.
Katie Higgins: This. ghost On. perfectly adjacent with. The Lindsay Clancy trial. Mm -hmm.
Katie Higgins: What the hell are we doing? We are constantly being edited or groomed. Uh -huh. From an... early age if you were born in the South. and now and i cannot and i'm not saying like you weren't if you were born not in the south but i just that's my experience And also it wasn't my parents and it wasn't your parents. no It was just...
Katie Higgins: The Society. Is that a vodka delivery? Oh, that is a vodka delivery from the one and only Fantastic Julia.
Katie Higgins: Because um I'm going to tell you that I've also learned over this last week that vanilla vodka. and Coke Zero. is delicious. Which is like a... vanilla coke well i just didn't know because you know typically what you would mix with coke would be like rum or whiskey whiskey and so i was kind like but vodka can have such a bite But the vanilla just completely.
Katie Higgins: takes that away. It's very good. It's very good. Okay. Tell me all your thoughts on the death of a pastor's wife and the trial. Here we go. Let's get it. Okay. I...
Katie Higgins: Watched. The death of the preacher's wife. And you did not grow up evangelical. No. Neither did I, to be fair. I grew up Episcopalian, but I was very, I was heavily influenced by evangelical just in my.
Katie Higgins: Friends. The church camps I went to. The other youth groups I visited with friends. summer camp That would have been the worst of them. I, the whole gobsmacked. I think. Yeah.
Katie Higgins: It was like, what is happening? And the altar calls. Every night? It was like you guys didn't know? A little much. know Already? Well... Like, I didn't get it. I didn't, none of it computed. And the the pressure of it. Do you know what I mean? Because it's like this show. Right. You know, I was in seventh grade. So I think i think i at one point i I was like, oh, everybody else is going. Am I supposed to go up there? I mean, I already had him, but sure. I love Jesus. Yes. I didn't get it. Right.
Katie Higgins: Because I'm like, you didn't know before you? Well, and also, okay. So then later I was, you know, not until I was in 2021. I was born in 86, I don't know with the math on that, just whatever, you can do it.
Katie Higgins: Are you any time? and now Because now I know I have OCD and I don't have to do this. But I used to like. And anytime someone else was like getting saved, quote unquote, or like praying the prayer of salvation, I was like, oh shit, I better do it again. I better do it again. I better do it again. I better do it again. Now I know.
Katie Higgins: Very lock solid. My salvation is set. Like my relationship with Jesus, we're cool. Like. I've never felt compelled. Right. There's a slight turn off. I'm going to be really honest. No! it it That should be the norm!
Katie Higgins: It feels weird. It feels... very public and i feel like if you're at a church camp if you're at church like Shouldn't you already - No.
Katie Higgins: Well, I think the idea with that is like, oh, it's so fun, invite your friends that aren't believers. Maybe. Would you ever do that? I didn't. i only I mean, there was, i think I think maybe once. there would be somebody that would spend the night and it was like, Oh, we're already going to church. Do you want to come? Do you want to come? That's very different. They were already spending night. Not like, do you want to go to church with me? Yeah.
Katie Higgins: And then to try to explain, okay, I need you to kneel here. Okay, we're going to sit. Now we're going to stand. Now we're going to kneel again. Don't go up there. Yeah. Yeah, they're like, I don't ever want to come back. And I grew up this way. We kneeled a lot as well. Listen, I like that. Let's do it. Reminds me of the breath work with Deirdre.
Katie Higgins: um Yeah, I went to a camp and I'm not going to name it. Um, And this was where I first heard about. Stumbleware. Wait. Uh huh. huh Is that underwear? Nope. Listen.
Katie Higgins: Our dress code has girls? was Do not wear anything. that will make your brother in Christ. Stumble. which just like this conversation we had the other day, Emily. I know. We're not going to. Like, no, we're not. No, no, no, no, no. We're not talking about anyone in in particular. Absolutely not. i We were just talking about how just because a girl like ah the idea was you wear a short skirt at a club, you get raped. It's your fault.
Katie Higgins: That is exactly what I was being taught. Yes. And I was.
Katie Higgins: Seventh grade? And I had been hearing that already like, oh, well, you don't want to wear a two -piece bathing suit. You want to wear a one -piece with long shorts because heaven forbid one of your brothers in Christ sees your chest and or just the shape of it. and has a thought about you.
Katie Higgins: And that's your fault. I remember. Um, what? I remember vividly. It was Christmas 7th. Great Christmas. Seventh grade. Seventh grade Christmas. Formative years.
Katie Higgins: I got, I was, i I was developing faster than my peers. I got the most amazing outfit for Christmas from Express. oh Yes. And it was this button down. It was a pink.
Katie Higgins: buttoned down almost like a linen material like a really fine linen and this like Pencil skirt. Yes. And the coolest. Pleather jacket. You're feeling so good about yourself. go ahead Okay. i need Yeah, what happened? In the lunch line in the cafeteria.
Katie Higgins: Going to get my tiger top. You wore this to school. I wore it to school. Okay. I'm feeling myself. And Nancy let you wear it. Yeah. I mean, it was a button down. Which to me says. It's fine.
Katie Higgins: Hey! Did I probably look like I was 37 working a temp job? Maybe. I don't know, but I was feeling myself. My point is, though, it's not like you were wearing. A bandeau bra and underwear. no You know, or whatever. This was a pencil skirt. It went to just below the knee. It was a button down. A linen button down. Button down blouse. Yeah. With. A jacket.
Katie Higgins: Dealing myself. Getting your tater tots. Getting them. I look so chic. I look like a New York woman. I need this outfit now. um We're bringing it back. We're calling it the Emily. And I stood there in line.
Katie Higgins: next to a table of boys that I had known literally since kindergarten. And then. murmuring amongst themselves nope and throwing jabs out that I looked like a hooker.
Katie Higgins: And did they get in trouble? No. Of course not! no Did I ever wear that outfit again? Absolutely not. And it probably plays into what I've learned about you and how much thought you put into your outfits. Yeah. That probably began shaping.
Katie Higgins: Every. piece of clothing you put on. yeah I have a similar story. Well, the stumbleware was a big one. I was going to a school dance also probably sixth, seventh, eighth grade. And now it was probably more like eighth grade because I had developed at this point and I have hips.
Katie Higgins: Okay. And I have no boobs now. but I did back then. And I was wearing, and my parents were out of town. And I was staying with a. one of my best friends.
Katie Higgins: And I was wearing a. black skirt that would be called a mini skirt, but this was not a, my parents were not the types to let me.
Katie Higgins: you know parade around in something that would be It... um revealing or whatever, because I was young. Cause I'm not saying like, send your. 10 -year -old out in something.
Katie Higgins: you know, revealing for her sake. I'm saying that the the Penalty on women always is what I'm yeah sick over. and And so I had this cute little red top. And I had a black mini skirt, but it was not.
Katie Higgins: It was not club wear. It was not club wear. It was Spice Girl time, so I was wearing black platforms. Hey, I still remember. Oh, my. great God they were so good. And then.
Katie Higgins: uh my one of my best friend's moms did our hair and it was like a half up half down situation and she was very crafty she was so fun shout out to mrs hawkins if what Bye. Any chance you can ever listen to this.
Katie Higgins: um And she, you know that, um it's like foil. wire and it's wrapped and has little stars that come off of it. Yes. It was like a crafting thing. yeah She did the cutest thing with both of our hair. It was a half up, half down with like a little. bun and then she wrapped the the star stuff around it. Cute. so cute So fun. So ethereal. So fun. And just fun. Like. Happy girls.
Katie Higgins: Okay. We get to this. we She drops us off at the dance. I'm pulled away. bit Mind you, I've been at this school since I was in kindergarten.
Katie Higgins: no shame to the school also just oh i know no it was it was the time yeah it was just the time okay And I'm pulled. Into. the side hallway.
Katie Higgins: Your parents are out of town. And you wore that? We know you're trying to pull one over on us and what you're wearing is inappropriate. And they made me put, I don't know what they had, like a pair of jeans. A shirt of shame or something? A shirt of shame or they had a pair of jeans or something. I don't remember that part. But I remember. being accused that I was only wearing it because my parents were out of town.
Katie Higgins: And I'm sitting there going, I'm like dumbfounded. Because I was super close with my best friend's parents. Yeah. my parents Same way. Like, i was I wasn't trying to, like, pull anything over on the school or my friend's mom or my parents. Feeling your best. i would i felt girls self i felt like and do you want to know what after that I became. one of the most I was so insecure for so long. I felt like the ugly.
Katie Higgins: duckling, ugly cousin, ugly sister, ugly stepchild. I always, it with like, um i My friend groups were always the popular.
Katie Higgins: Girls, I think looking back, I can. I can recognize that. But I always would have described myself as like I was the ugly one or the fat one. of the group Like, are you kidding me?
Katie Higgins: and Like, look. You're overhearing this boys table. Me being told I must have... tricked my parents. What? That shit goes deep! Mm hmm. So when did women start editing themselves?
Katie Higgins: In the 90s. Or... When they were about 12, 13, the puberty hit. And puberty hit and we were told that our bodies were shameful. Yeah, I bet. Our mothers could recall a story probably similar yeah at the same age.
Katie Higgins: Yep. Throughout millennia. My mom says she always, she was like, I was, she worked at, bat this is actually so funny. She worked at a Baskin Robbins. And she said. She liked a lot of ice. She liked the ice cream. Okay. And, but my mom is the most. disciplined woman in the world and works out.
Katie Higgins: ah More than. I can listen. I'm never going to be that disciplined. And she was like, oh, I was always the fat kid. Always. Always, always, always, always think of Lisa that way. it is At all. I know. but Because she is so incredibly disciplined. To this day, she'll tell you, I'm the fat one.
Katie Higgins: It's so ingrained in her. Wow. So In. grained. Now, I will say, my mom never did not, that is not. her life. she had a fascinating life she yeah She did. she was like My mom did too, but in a different way. Waterbed queen?
Katie Higgins: um She worked at a ranch. Out in like Montana or something. growing up in portland must have been fantastic uh she worked in a butcher shop Ew.
Katie Higgins: and she well done i remember the story we always remembered yeah because she won't eat Liver. Although we do love a Brunschweiger, a liver like. Sausage. You're going to be so surprised. I don't like that.
Katie Higgins: I know. You're so shocked. I know. That's why I love sharing charcuterie with you. It's really fun. I'm like, um, push that to the side. All of the, I do love liver. Um, Steven does too. My love of foie gras. I love a pate. I love it. Okay. But this is why you and I can always travel anywhere in the world and I will share.
Katie Higgins: She's bored with you. Cause she gets all the things she wants. Cause I get all the things that I want. And she doesn't. All I have to do is give up Brie. And I'm like, okay, I can do that. You're good. Um, so but. she She was goofing off in the butcher shop as they were closing with the guy they other guy that worked there. And he threw an entire liver at her.
Katie Higgins: And it. slapped right here. She's like, can't even. attached That is valid. Attached to her chest. ah that's I mean, I wouldn't eat it after that. Hell no. Right? it um No, she had a ah wild life. She yeah worked um at a home interior store.
Katie Higgins: and um friends with all the gays went to so there was a i'm also still on the artist for a gay bestie to work at my... shop. if you're interested.
Katie Higgins: There you go. we'll see Shameless plug. Shameless plug. But yeah. There was a famous drag queen. In Portland. that like Iconic. Since the 70s. Right. Okay. And. um like one time mom she was kind of done with a date and the guy wasn't done yet And so she said, let's go to this bar. And she just basically. Watch my drag queen friend.
Katie Higgins: Well, yeah, she just waited till he got too uncomfortable. I love it. You know, and that's Nancy. But I'm sure there have been times. So polite, though, I bet. it was probably so nancy's polite in the way i love it Right. I know I do. I love her.
Katie Higgins: But I'm sure there are are times, and I bet if I asked her sisters too. They wore something inappropriate Sure. and someone had a commentary you know and i mean i will say image has always been a big thing in our family like you know, sure.
Katie Higgins: Sure. What is I mean, I was on an hour and a half phone call the other night with my sister. She had to get something for the company. um birthday party like okay the company was celebrating a big birthday sure sure sure yeah and the like the dress code is one of the really obscure ones that you're like, can you just call it? Could you just please spell it out? you know Yeah.
Katie Higgins: Um, But we have this mentality of what is the occasion? What is the formula? I must be appropriately dressed. Okay. Okay. Gotcha. I have like an Amy's case. Like she had to be.
Katie Higgins: In a shade of green because the company, everybody was wearing green. Okay. ah that's not offensive enough, not too distracting for photos, but appropriate enough for photos. Something that says, I am wife of a C -suite. but still super approachable for even.
Katie Higgins: you know the people that work out on the rigs and stuff can come up and have a conversation no that's way too many things it's like this whole laundry list of how do you be approachable enough but also Also esteemed enough. Right. Like.
Katie Higgins: No, that's too many things. And so I think that's why I always go for the Seda. safe outfit. Okay. But you were, whether it is, it is. um you know it or not you are forcing me to say, you know what? Why not?
Katie Higgins: i have I have an idea of something I want to do with a blazer. And I'm like, you know what? Maybe I should do it. Well, this outfit today. I'm trying, guys. I'm trying. Snaps. Snaps to you. um Today, what an... You know, i'm i'm I tend to be an all or nothing person.
Katie Higgins: I mean... I just that's I've always been that way. My neck is killing me. So you um that's why I'm doing all these weird things. I... I was so neutral and safe.
Katie Higgins: prior to what I how I dress now yes so and I so I've just literally like whoa it just the pendulum has swung yes and it keeps swinging in this way a lot of times it'll swing and then I'll kind of level back out Not with my fashion. Absolutely not. um Because it's just become such a way of expressing myself. And honestly, I think it's become a way of like for me to rebel. And I'm doing EMDR and like.
Katie Higgins: learning about that. Like I'm rebelling ah in a lot of ways right now. And Um. I kind of love it Yeah. And I'm in my like, let's be more petty. Let's be more loud. Let's dress more wild, like as a form of rebel. And let's be more happy. Let's have more joy. as a form of rebellion. straight dopamine dressing he yeah and and everything. Heck yeah. Today. Okay, I'm wearing this shirt that we have.
Katie Higgins: by Queen of Sparkles and Steven, my husband. Who I do, I love this man. I do. He and I are so opposite that like the amount of fighting he and I do is, is. is Like.
Katie Higgins: Oh my God, y 'all need to be. divorced like really and truly except that we do like it's like we'll literally be like why the heck, do I still love you? Like so annoying. We're like that. We're like, just, that's what we do.
Katie Higgins: Okay, we're both. really stubborn i mean he's autistic i have ocd we're just a really it's a circus at of our house. um Like literally all five of us are neurodivergent. All five. Like.
Katie Higgins: it's ah It's a special place. I just shoot people with a water gun when they get too neurodivergent. Yeah, be careful. Tighten up a little, okay? She now has a champagne sword. I do. Not that she'll be it. It's only on champagne bottles.
Katie Higgins: Only because it's not very sharp. Yeah, listen, it's designed for the bottle. Justin got really nervous. We were at the lake and I brought it to the lake because I knew the cousins would love it. Okay, the smile on my face. You can't just walk around with a sword. I was like, it's dull. It's dull. I can walk around with a sword.
Katie Higgins: um Don't be so dramatic. I know. We're the dramatic ones. um Okay, so... Though the other, so I walk out today. and I'm wearing this top And I really like this.
Katie Higgins: I'm going to have to go pick up some vanilla vodka. It's been years since I've had it. I know, and it's one of those things that you're like, only teenagers drink that. Well, apparently 40 -year -old women also drink it in their Coke Zero, okay? Because it's very refreshing. Dopamine.
Katie Higgins: Dopamine. And it's sweet, but it's not like syrupy sweet. you know, because I don't do syrupy sweet, but I like a. refreshment. um So I walk out and he goes, you look like you got in a fight with a Muppet.
Katie Higgins: And I went. That means I'm going to get compliments. All. day. long. And sure enough, I walk into my parent meeting. with like 20 women.
Katie Higgins: People I didn't even know were coming up to me to compliment me. It just is an exciting, it makes you joyful. You can't look at me without smiling. Yeah. Because it's like, it is, because I can totally see how this is a Muppet.
Katie Higgins: You know, it's like a Muppets head. It's that one. What's his name? ah Beaker? I think so. I think it's Beaker. I think it's Beaker. Michael loves the Muppets, so I tend to know the Muppets. Yes. yeah we like Yeah. And I think it's a fine line of figuring out what works. Exactly. Last night, I was told I had to dress for Sophie's comeback. to her Oh, that's right. That's right. Tell me what you wore. well I need to know. Well, I wore these. um They are like a leopard.
Katie Higgins: kind of um what's then Can't go wrong. ah ah uh What's the name? The barrel. Thank you. Barrel. I love, my leopard barrel pants are still some of my favorite ones four years later. They're so comfortable. I love a soft pant. Love them.
Katie Higgins: So they're like it's like a drawstring. Okay. oh great yeah soft panned but in a barrel in a barrel oh this is great right And then I decided, you know what?
Katie Higgins: Katie's been wearing a lot of color. You had, um, actually you were wearing, I was wearing these pants the other day, pants the other day in the live. And you were talking about how it's basically neutral. It is. So then I thought of my leopard. as basically a neutral yes and i was like oh i have this really cute i love how it looks on me floral pink floral short sleeve blouse.
Katie Higgins: i i need to Do we have photos? No. No. Okay. So I put that on and then Sophie says, hey, it's going to be cold in the gym. We were going to a volleyball game. okay just Did she play volleyball? No. No. So we're going to watch Friends. Just all of her friends. Okay. Love.
Katie Higgins: Come back to her. There is a sweater I bought in Ireland this summer. I feel like. It can work with you. Please tell me it was stripes. Well it wasn't. It was like a fluorescent pink.
Katie Higgins: Even better. V -neck cardigan. Over the floral pink top. Over the floral pink top with the leopard. oh i'm i'm Okay. And I walk out. I don't know what shoes you were wearing, but do you know what shoes you need?
Katie Higgins: is those pink. Flab. Oh, fabulous those would have been great. That you just showed me. Well, I will tell you. What shoes did you wear? i need to They were just flip flops. Well, that works. But. Flip flops are in right now and I am.
Katie Higgins: you're The way you're wearing them today, and you're not wearing a flip -flop, you're wearing a thong. Do we remember these? is Yeah, it's all in, and I gotta... So I walk out. and Okay. And so he goes, oh.
Katie Higgins: Silence. No. And I said, well, what do you think? Remember we bought this in Dingle. I love it. Was such a great deal on a sweater. That sentence alone was so good. I bought this in Dingle. Like.
Katie Higgins: The store, you would have loved it. i read It was all the same sweater. They were all 55 euro. in just 15 different neon colors. brightest colors. This is so good.
Katie Higgins: I gotta to remember that. What do you think? Yeah. goes You know I've thought about it. Oh. Oh! I just don't think it's a fit. And I said, well, I feel like Miss Katie in it. Thinking that was going to win me some points. Possibly. Possibly. I think she likes my worker. Not i went on my workers. My teeny boppers better than. ah which is Which is fantastic. I had to go change. Yep. So I had to swap out and just wore a navy crew neck.
Katie Higgins: um With the leopard pants at least. with the leopard Okay, that is still a great outfit. I would have been happier had it had a collar where the pink could have popped out. That would have been cute. Okay. um So I just had to throw a sweater on over it. Okay.
Katie Higgins: And I felt super lame. I do feel like the fluorescent pink over the navy would have been cute, though, too. I'm going to need to see this fluorescent pink jacket. Really? Actually, I saved the tag. to see if it was something that you could purchase. Well, listen.
Katie Higgins: You know As you follow a along with us. This is why you're friends with people that own booty. Yes, indeed. I'll tell you that's the way I'm, why I'm friends with people that own other types. of boutiques for the exact same reason. an italian it's it's well but i also i tend to i learned about is it flat can you say it flabulous I think it's Flavius. Yeah. See, she says it's so good. So maybe.
Katie Higgins: I don't know. I didn't take Spanish. No but the way you say it is so good. You introduced me to that brand and I can't say enough things about them. I've asked them if I can be some sort of ambassador and they have said I can go apply.
Katie Higgins: Let's, I think, apply. I know I'm going to. I have, there's several pair that are sitting in my cart right now. I'm obsessed with them. And after I ordered them, y 'all. And I received them and I have two pairs and they, um,
Katie Higgins: and and for a designer shoe they're not expensive you know so this is something like and also like I'm you know I'm It.
Katie Higgins: It's not like I'm buying these every day. Yeah. I turned 40 this year though. So like I had some presence. Okay. You know, Um, but i I am working hard on being in a new season of life, but right now I'm just not there. But that's fine. There's ebbs and flows.
Katie Higgins: um And... They are the most comfortable thing. I literally reach to put them on every day. Every time I wear my red ones. red which ones are your red ones they're like a linen linen okay fantastic okay um and then well and then I had a I had an issue with one of my pairs and I really thought gosh it's been too long nope I sent them a photo just to say because I know they're like a smaller brand huh
Katie Higgins: Out of Madrid. And so I sent them a photo and I said, I just want you to see this. It's been a little while. And so I'm not expecting anything like that. It's not even the point of this yeah email. I just wanted to let y 'all know just in case.
Katie Higgins: Yeah. You know, because like. Is it bad glue? Exactly. Yeah. Well, they just sent me a new pair. And I was so impressed. And I've been really impressed with their customer service, their social media, how they were respond, like how they. um Communicate. So absolute love. The only, my only hesitation. Okay. sure their own European sizes.
Katie Higgins: and they And if you aren't familiar with that, if you're not familiar with it and they do, I would say fit. smaller And, well, and. The different styles are a little different. Yeah. Like I have that velvet pair and then that leopard pair. And and the leopard is almost like a sheer. Exactly. And it has stretched out more. than the velvet. And so. See - you know, I mean.
Katie Higgins: early, early You know, they're learning. Yeah, there's a raw silk and silver they're looking at. they're so uh they're but then there's also like a hot pink with red trim velvet That's the one you showed me the other day. Yeah, and I'm like... I need it. Well, cause I have that orange velvet. Yeah. That is, it's a neon velvet y 'all. Like.
Katie Higgins: How do you get neon velvet? I mean it's i would say it is more striking on the orange. Oh, way more. On my shirt, itig it glows. Yeah. It glows. They're fabulous. Well, with our last few minutes. They're flabulous. They are flabulous. I don't exactly. know what that mean We're, you know. I'm going to go to Madrid. I'm just going to go straight. I need you to go ask them because in the U .S. we're hearing flab.
Katie Higgins: You know, that's the lobby. exactly and they're gonna be like that is not that's not what but we meant that's not what we meant and we're gonna go well okay well with our last few minutes wait hold on hold on Oh. Petty Betty of the Week?
Katie Higgins: Petty Betty of the Week. Do we have a Petty Betty of the Week? Oh. Oh! The petty betty of the week is going to be. The Lindsay Clancy. The Lindsay, the lone juror on the Lindsay Clancy trial. And yes, this is going to become a weekly thing where we talk about the petty betty of the week.
Katie Higgins: Because there is nothing more exciting about my 40s. Is your Petty Betty. If I remember correctly. Reddington let it slip that it was juror number three. Correct me if I'm wrong, please. i By no means am I saying I... right But listen, I do watch that man's every word. He is... He's so sharp. And, okay, on Court TV today, y 'all.
Katie Higgins: I have watched. so much Court TV. that my autistic son, Michael, When I turned it on this morning, he goes, oh no, no more trial.
Katie Higgins: And I went. Say it! Michael. I win. Michael! You need to go tell this juror to get his act together. Yes. Reddington also let it slip that it's a he.
Katie Higgins: Of course it is. course it is. Back to the death of a pastor's wife. But again, groomed at like 13, basically. Wait, what? That's when she started going to that church.
Katie Higgins: groomed. Bye. Third. Again. wait we literally just said seventh grade eighth grade this girl on death we've Just in case you cannot keep up with our squirreliness. Go watch it. Yeah, you've got to watch. And there's only three episodes. They've got to make more. I'm sure they will. Also, is this like a new thing?
Katie Higgins: where there's this public spotlight that forces. The powers that be to go look at something. Do you know what I mean? Well, there should be. There should be. There should have been for years. I mean, this girl and...
Katie Higgins: I mean... That man, the one, that the paraplegic that was thrown in the pool. I can watch that one. No, you did. It's the, it's the death of a pastor's wife. though youreple no The woman that he is married to now.
Katie Higgins: The husband of that woman. That one Right! Got it. They had to have killed him.
Katie Higgins: How? else I'm sorry. I'm sorry. But how else does a paralyzed man so get in the pool? Where was... new girlfriend. When pastor's wife.
Katie Higgins: Well, new girl. Okay. Also we are on death of a pastor's wife, just FYI, because there's also the new girl in Patrick's life. Yes. So we're on death of a pastor's wife. And I'm telling you, there are just too many loopholes with Patrick too, or too many. um so but wait okay does death of a pastor's wife because i'm gonna be really honest i
Katie Higgins: Okay, I love watching these kinds of shows. Yes. And I usually do it when I'm ironing, when I have a huge pile of ironing, or when I just need to sort of zone out a little. So there's a game I play on my phone where I have to bundle all of the yarn into certain groups and I'm listening to the show.
Katie Higgins: But I'm not always, I'm not actively watching it. Well, you probably, actually you doing that is actually probably like a form of EMDR and it's like processing. Could be. No one's serious. But does it address where new girlfriend was?
Katie Higgins: When... pastor's wife Is shot in the woods. No. Because he is he has an alibi. He does. He apparently like he had, he was preaching somewhere.
Katie Higgins: Okay. The thing i I loved that they said. in that documentary. it was the It was the guy. the reporter. And he said,
Katie Higgins: We need to start. talking more about. Murder. by suicide. Because. Okay, if he has an alibi.
Katie Higgins: And this also. applies to Lindsay Clancy. If these two women... And I am... There's just so many holes in the Lindsay Clancy trial yeah as well. And so I... I'm not trying to go off on some deep end or whatever, but I think every.
Katie Higgins: Um. well -minded. No, that's not the word. Even common sense can say there is holes in this investigation. Oh, absolutely. Huge. You didn't test the powder on her drink?
Katie Higgins: Yeah. the I mean, there's holes everywhere. And also the confession is only Patrick said. My God. yeah anyways there's a lot of holes But then have you seen the conspiracy? Yes. New wife and Lindsay. Look.
Katie Higgins: Exactly alike. It's not like, oh. Katie and I both have dark hair. We look alike. we have't Because we have been asked if we are related or something. Have we?
Katie Higgins: Yeah. Oh, I didn't know that. Or do people just test me and Julia? I'm confused. just Listen, it's been a stressful day. It has. But there's a conspiracy yes that... thenat well Because also the body temp is so low. So low! That was it new wipe wearing the mask?
Katie Higgins: at the Children's Pediatrician office.
Katie Higgins: And Lindsay was incapacitated much earlier in. the day. Whoa. Have you not seen any of the conspiracy theories? Wait, that she's at the doctor's office wearing a mask?
Katie Higgins: New. New wife wearing like a COVID mask. Yes, because oh because the mother or whoever. Whoever it is. Whoever did it. I've seen this ski mask is what I've seen.
Katie Higgins: That took the daughter to the pediatrician office. Okay. Um, is wearing a uh like a ppe mask okay because it was 2023 so i could see that that would still bit have been a requirement maybe They dropped that in 21.
Katie Higgins: Yeah, I was going to say, I don't think I was still wearing one. Because Sophie and I went to Paris in March of 21, and then April 1st is when they dropped it. Okay. So. okay That's why I know this. Okay. Okay. Okay. But.
Katie Higgins: Somebody that looks. Looks like mom wearing... um I mean the resemblance of the Two of them is creepy. I mean, only I think that a woman would notice because the brows are different. Okay. Okay. Slightly. Okay. REAP - BEEP!
Katie Higgins: The man has a dope. He does. Okay. and Well, and then have you seen the conspiracy theory about the CBS? footage and the ah restaurant footage well he changes clothes changes clothes they think it's the best friend they think it's the best friend hairstyle is different Interesting. One has body and wave and one does not. Interesting. And then her her quote.
Katie Higgins: It was like I watched myself do it. If she was drugged. out of her mind. And I do, I do, I want to make it very clear. I do believe Lindsay Clancy was mentally ill.
Katie Higgins: Yes, where I don't have a confident. thing is that i i'm not I cannot say yes or no. That he didn't manipulate her mental illness to his advantage. Now.
Katie Higgins: i want I want to know what your your feedback is on this because I was scrolling Facebook the other day and somebody had posted about the trial. Okay. And they said.
Katie Higgins: this is not a win for women no if we're saying it was hormones. Like it was post ah postpartum psychosis. Because.
Katie Higgins: Then... they can start using that. as something to throw in our face. Now, my hope is okay that we will actually throw legitimate dollars into research and funding all of these different things exactly to give better support.
Katie Higgins: Two families. I think we talked about it last week, how in Germany you get a midwife that comes to your house for six weeks. Well, and in the UK, the girl that was being interviewed on one of their morning shows. With postpartum psychosis. With, with.
Katie Higgins: Truly documented postpartum psychosis. She was put in a ho a psych hospital within a mother and baby unit because of one of the... Worst things you can do to a woman with postpartum psychosis, postpartum depression, postpartum OCD, or postpartum anxiety is take her baby from her. I think the worst thing you can do to a mother is take her child away from her. Let's leave all the diagnoses at the door. you're Okay. You know what? You're exactly right. Because I was diagnosed with postpartum OCD.
Katie Higgins: which then... Ten years later... After a hospitalization. After severe suicidal ideation, i I never experienced true homicidal ideation. And I'm very and i'm going to clarify.
Katie Higgins: True homicidal ideation because. I have obsessive, I have harm OCD. which is where I have intrusive thoughts about. harming myself or harming people I love.
Katie Higgins: And I am confident enough in my diagnosis, my treatment and advocacy that I've done to be able to say this out loud. I have intrusive, or I used to have, I don't have them anymore, intrusive thoughts about harming my children. And I was so...
Katie Higgins: terrified of them. And so one of the things in this case that I have. really struggled with. Is that. Did? Any of her practitioners ask her.
Katie Higgins: the nature of her intrusive thoughts, The nature of. how she was hearing the intrusive like when she says in all of that witness testimony when she says Or the people say, she came in saying she was having.
Katie Higgins: horrifying, intrusive thoughts. That woman is... A. terrified her kids are gonna be taken away from her which is exactly your point B, she is scared out of her mind.
Katie Higgins: But I think... and and and And correct me if I'm wrong, I think... When I hear that for At first blush. Yeah, yeah, go. Yeah, tell me. I'm going to, I'm going to hurt my kids. Yes. They don't stop crying. I'm going to shake them. Yes. Whatever. Right. Yes. Like, I think that's the what everybody thinks initially. Exactly. Which is interesting. None of my thoughts were ever that.
Katie Higgins: It's not necessarily that it's almost like a. like a final destination thought it's yes right like i am driving behind the semi what if the semi blows out a tire. takes us all out. yes okay and i will tell you safe to drive that or or something well i would have intrusive thoughts oh my god what if i accidentally pull into the wrong lane and i get and i and we all die And I'd be like.
Katie Higgins: But then I'd be like, Stephen would ask me. Do you want to swerve into the lane? No! then you're not going to do it. But what if I do? right Well, and that - Or what if they swerve into me? Right. And that now - How do I now keep everybody safe? And the differential of what if I do is is the OCD.
Katie Higgins: Like that's what would... um That's one of the things that my daughters both have OCD, pretty severe. We've all three been through treatment at the Houston OCD Center. And so. i know I can say I feel like, no, I'm not a therapist. I'm not a whatever. I'm just a person with OCD. Right.
Katie Higgins: But I do know that that's one of the definitive. Guidelines is like.
Katie Higgins: Like, like... I don't ever think I'm a good person. Like people with OCD, we never think we're a good person. Like we're always like, what if I murder someone? What if I pull into oncoming traffic? What if I want to... kill myself. And like, Steve would be like, dude. This was after my suicidal ideation.
Katie Higgins: He'd be like, Speaking of the devil. Speaking of the devil. He'd be like, well, do you do you want to take your life? No! Oh! Then why do you think you're going to? Because I just do! What if I - do?
Katie Higgins: And he'd be like, I don't understand. And then of course, like we all learned more. But that's one of the key things I keep seeing in this. Well, first of all, why the hell didn't they test her for bipolar? right Because the minute I had any manic symptoms. If it's after Patrick said, I'm going to. Bye.
Katie Higgins: Listen. And I agree with all the things. The documentary is going to be called Patrick said. Yeah. like we're getting notifications about your battery that are stressing me out oh okay okay we'll wrap this up then we'll wrap this so All that to say, I am hopeful that by next week. We do have.
Katie Higgins: Okay, well, because - Whatever the next step is. just in case someone here doesn't know. They declared an official mistrial today. But then there was discussion about that some sort of.
Katie Higgins: Hearing next week. Okay, so. I have a very good friend who's a lawyer. And so. At some point in the middle of the trial, he did this thing. Reddington did And when I asked my friend about it, she goes, oh, he has to do that.
Katie Higgins: now right in order to be able to do this later or whatever. So I don't know if that was the same thing. But but I do know there should hopefully be a hearing. It sounded like maybe by Thursday. But yeah, he wanted it Tuesday. Judge said maybe, judge did say maybe by the end of the week, like a 925. I'm making that up. I'm making that up. Numbers and letters. It was some sort of numbers. If anybody from the Commonwealth is listening in.
Katie Higgins: and wants to come on down, we'll put you on a Southwest flight. Listen. And you can come tell us all the things. I would love that. I would love that so much. Okay. Before we wrap this up though, the woman.
Katie Higgins: that I made you watch the video of. Dawn Light. who was trying to take, she says she was trying to get a photo of Lindsay Clancy, but she had a deleted video of the jurors.
Katie Higgins: Go watch her. It's just... funny. It is. It is funny. She's running out. And her lawyer is, which I think is one of those like court appointed lawyers. which I feel like if it had like the Benny Hill.
Katie Higgins: soundtrack behind it. Listen. I mean, it was it was so good. then So her lawyer keeps saying, no comment, no comment, no comment. So she just starts nodding her head aggressively.
Katie Higgins: I was dying laughing. It was so funny, but I think I'm just fascinated by this court stuff. You really are. I really am. You missed your calling. I think I might have. I need to tell my friend, can I just be your assistant? You don't even have to pay me. I just want to be your assistant. This is so fun. Not fun. It's people's lives. It is. I didn't i don't mean it like that. But we are fascinated. We are fascinated. and Ultimately,
Katie Higgins: Listen. This juror. I would be very afraid for my life if I was him. I'm a phrase differently. Okay. Um... Yeah. he's He's going to be a marked person in society. I imagine with the amount of...
Katie Higgins: Not by me. I'm in Texas. um Who has the time? who has the time and but i there's so much there's so many eyes on this case If I had a water gun in that jury room. Exactly. But can you imagine being one of those jurors, one of the 11?
Katie Higgins: And there's just this one person. Who has, from what we've been told. Expressed. doubt, like explicitly expressed doubt. and then refuses.
Katie Higgins: to then acknowledge that doubt when it's time to give his verdict vote. I would have been throwing things at the wall. Again, water guns are a great investment. I cannot wait to hear. from the jurors, like in the in the post interviews or whatever. So listen. Right in time for Labor Day weekend. Right in time for related Labor Day weekend. Petty Betty of the week is ah us, me, her. Juror number whatever. Juror number whatever.
Katie Higgins: Listen, are you just a mess? I should say that.
Katie Higgins: fill in the blank fill in the blank for what i was about to say because uh listen misogyny is not cool Misogyny is not cool. Alright. Well, with that. That's it for our. Cheers to y 'all.
Katie Higgins: Cocktail Ketchup of the Week. All right. um Okay, we would love for you to go follow us on We Have Thoughts Pod on Instagram. I don't post almost anything but maybe you'll get a funny clip or two.
Katie Higgins: Or a surprise. I don't know. Or a surprise. Who knows? All right. And we'll see you next week. See you next week. Bye. Or cheers. Cheers. That's what I should have said said is cheers. soe Santé. Santé. Santé.
