Hosts' Personal Weekend Highlights

00:00:50
Speaker
Let's say hello to the fellas, Tom.
00:00:53
Speaker
How we doing, pal? Bro, I could be better on this victory Monday. This sweatshirt, this little cozy little sweatshirt, couldn't feel any better. Says victory Monday all over the front. I've been just I've been over the moon all day. But how are you guys? Yeah, man. Jake, what's been going on, buddy?
00:01:09
Speaker
I'm great, man. Happy Monday. I saw a guy at the grocery store that was wearing the same hat as me. My bills had. So I had a moment with the bill spent. Hell yeah. That's awesome, dude. Yeah. This this day felt particularly good for so, so, so many reasons that we're going to get to shortly here. But
00:01:28
Speaker
Yeah, probably, probably arguably the most satisfying victory Monday I've enjoyed in quite some time, personally. In a while. Absolutely. Yeah. Like, in a while. Just, you couldn't walk up with a smile. Nothing could really faze you. Yeah, this one felt really good. Good day. It was a great day. How was the weekend, boys? Any fun things go on? Go ahead, Jake. Yeah, I was excited. It was my birthday, so got some drinks, got a tattoo, and, uh...
00:01:56
Speaker
Yeah, it was fun. It was good. And then a super relaxing Sunday. So we love that. What about you, Tommy? Yeah, nothing crazy. As everybody heard, I was nursing my my illness last week, so I just laid low, had a nice quiet weekend, got a bunch of stuff done, but it was good. You, the Nigel's clan had a big weekend. Yeah, we shared that shout out to my little sister and her new husband, William. Yeah, we had we had the first
00:02:21
Speaker
first of the Croston children be married this week, which was probably mostly a relief for my parents. It wasn't anything else. It was super small. We celebrated it down by the water at our cottage. And it was an absolutely beautiful day. And I think for the bride and groom, hopefully I'm not speaking out of turn, but I think everything was exactly how they wanted it to go. So that's my baby sister and Will. And I wish you guys a lifetime of happiness. So that was awesome.
00:02:51
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely. Shout out you guys. Love you guys. And happy for you. Yeah, man. Pictures look stunning. Yeah, dude. The pictures, I think, are going to be really nice. The photographer was awesome. One of Will's buddies, who is also a fellow power lifter, but one of the other things he does is film powerlifting competitions. I think he's recorded stuff for William in the past. And he did a lot of videography stuff and also took pictures. And the stuff that he did was absolutely stunning, dude.
00:03:21
Speaker
I hope he overlays a set of videos with like heavy metal powerlifting music too. Like he does the nice stuff to Olivia, but then sends Will like a cut up of like some just like crazy slipknot with some like. Yeah, I don't know, man. That's because you got it, you know, like, sorry, it's in the instincts.
00:03:38
Speaker
That kid seemed to be really good at what he was doing, so I don't know if we can bank on any mistakes from him. All right, fellas, I'm absolutely parched. Can we crack a beer here?

Beverage Talk: Brews and Java Power

00:03:47
Speaker
Please. Yeah, buddy. Hold on. Let me get myself prepped here. I'm ready. You guys ready? Three, two, one. Hey, we all showed up this week. Look at us.
00:04:00
Speaker
Yeah, how about that, Tom, since you and I completely dropped the ball last week, let's start with us. What are you drinking, bud? I am drinking Jacobus, a German style Pilsner from Shilling Beer Company. You guys are all about your Germans recently. Yeah, Jake and I went on a little German beer route the other day when he was up and we bought far too much beer and I now have a nice little mix pack to roll through. But it's really tasty. So I've already had a couple. So not tonight.
00:04:29
Speaker
but I've had a couple previous this week and I'm excited about this one this evening. Yeah, dude. The trouble of doing this podcast is that you guys are recorded and I have it on record from last episode that you would each drink two beers this evening. I don't remember that. Just saying. Tom's actually geared up. Tom's got two hands, two beers. Tom's ready.
00:04:51
Speaker
No, we'll tell us about your tall boy. Yeah. So it is a Roarbach, but I was telling you guys last time I was trying to remember what I was going to drink. And I said it was a Bill's based beer. And that was a blatant lie. It is Roarbach, but it's called nautical mile. It's a nice hazy session IPA.
00:05:09
Speaker
Very delicious. I'm enjoying it quite a chunk. Nice. It's been good. Jake, what about you, buddy? That sounds delicious. You both are intimately familiar with this brewery, Ithaca Beer Co. You've heard of the flower power, but have you heard of the Java power? No.
00:05:30
Speaker
I saw a picture go by, but is it good? The Flower Power Ale infused with coffee and it is as weird as it sounds. Yeah, I'm not sure that sounds delicious. I'll be honest. But it is shockingly good given how it sounds. Nice. I would like to try that. I'd like that for myself.
00:05:52
Speaker
I'll save a can. Yeah, before we go further, I want to shout out our listeners and I want to hear what you guys are drinking for beer corner. So Jake, every week on the Instagram, he puts out a little post with our beer corners happenings and what we're drinking that that that pod. And I want to hear what you guys are drinking. So go ahead and post on that Instagram post that Jake puts up later this week. And I want to hear what you guys listen. You guys are drinking. Yeah, buddy. One more one more real quick shout out here.
00:06:20
Speaker
So Tom and Jake, as we were doing our board meeting here before we take off the pod, they both kind of had the same idea and got some stickers rolling. So Tom has a few stickers that he printed up just for us right now. We're not going to quite sell them, but just as a commemoration of what we're doing. And then our good buddy Gabe actually, shout out Gabe. Gabe is an unreal musician.
00:06:45
Speaker
Maybe, maybe in one of our posts here, we can, we can drop his Instagram handle and people can check him out. He's an unreal drummer that we all went to college with an excellent producer, all around great guy. Um, he actually got some stickers made up and sent them over to Jake here. So we have these two really cool sets of stickers that were that we're.
00:07:03
Speaker
Really, really, really way too excited about as far as 30 year old man stickers go. Yeah, I was going to say, I love them. I love the shiny. The shiny is where it's at. Good work. Thank you so much. Love you, pal. Super kind of you, Gabe. Appreciate you, homie. I was going to say, it wasn't my idea. I can't take credit at all for that. Yeah. Yeah. I gave you a little bit too much credit there. Sorry about that. Just the bumble fuck receiving the stickers. That's all. She just happened to open his mail that day. You know, that's right. That's right.
00:07:31
Speaker
All right, before we get into the real meat and potatoes of what we're going to talk about today, which will be the bills, a couple of sabers things to talk about. Yeah.

Sabres Roster and Game Highlights

00:07:40
Speaker
So first thing we got here, first thing we got the roster has been cut down at this point. We're down to 33 players and.
00:07:51
Speaker
to give ourselves a couple flowers here. Nobody that we predicted to make the team has been cut just yet. So the interesting thing here at this point is that Zach Benson, Brandon Byro is still here.
00:08:06
Speaker
Those are two young guys, Yuri Kulik still here, Brett Murray still here. And these are all guys that will probably ultimately be in Rochester. But it's cool and a good testament to them that they're still here at this point in camp with only two preseason games left to go. Jake, what are your thoughts on where we're at with the trimming of the roster so far?
00:08:27
Speaker
Uh, yeah, definitely some flowers for us that nobody that we picked has been cut, but not unexpected. It's a lot of names that you are not super familiar with the get ax at this time. Um, and Tom, just a heads up. The reason that there was such a significant cut right now is the Amherst training camp opened this morning, Monday, uh,
00:08:47
Speaker
And so some of those players that they're not making the team, push them down there, get them into the AHL camp and give them a shot to make that team. Yeah. Okay. So if they're still on a Buffalo contract, do they have to go down to the Amex training camp or can they be assigned to other teams? Or am I overthinking it? No, I don't think you're overthinking it. I think it's definitely complex.
00:09:12
Speaker
If you are a player that is signed to a contract with Buffalo, typically you would go down to the AHL. If you can play there, as opposed to juniors, like we talked about with Matt Savoy. It depends though. Like someone like Noah Ostland, for example, is a Swedish kid. We've talked about him a little bit on the podcast. I believe he's under contract with Buffalo. However, Buffalo has said to him, Hey, you want to play on your team in Sweden? We want you to go back and be happy.
00:09:39
Speaker
So we're going to loan you to that team, but it has to be, it has to be a loan. He can't just say, fuck you guys. I'm out of here. I'm going to Sweden. Buffalo has to say, okay, here you go. Swedish team. We're going to loan this guy to you for the season. So he's playing for, he might play for like the Swedish national team.
00:09:56
Speaker
No, well, so he's in the Swedish Hockey League, the S.H.L. OK, he's going to play back home. I got you. All right. All right. Cool. Didn't know if we need to like look at him, look out for him in the Olympics or something. No, no, no, no, no. Yeah. Are the Olympics this year? I don't think so. I don't think so. I think that's 2023. But yeah, I think it's I think it's summer this year. Upcoming run, right? Oh, is it? All right. I can't keep trying to clear that shit, dude. That's a good thing. This isn't an Olympics podcast. Let's keep it rolling. Yeah.
00:10:24
Speaker
I do want to say, Ryan Johnson is still on the team, too. I was just going to run down the defensemen that it's notable that they're still here. So the notable still here, guys, meaning guys that would be considered to be bubble players. And it's it's a testament to their ability that they're here at this point. I would say Jacob Bryson, Kel Clegg, Ryan Johnson, like Jake just said, and Riley Stillman. So the defensive group at this point looks like it's just about set.
00:10:54
Speaker
And the three goaltenders are all still there, Comrie, Levi, and UPL. So there's a lot to be decided in those last two preseason games. Those two preseason games will be absolutely massive for guys like Benson and Byro. Man, one thing we didn't talk about when we were talking about the Sabres last week, Jake, is we predicted Matt Savoy to get the spot. But Matt Savoy's been injured all of camp. I completely forgot about that. So that's shitty podcasting on our end. Jake, what are your thoughts, bud?
00:11:23
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, that's not a great look. I mean, I think given how Benson's performed, I think he's probably the one I would label for that spot right there. So it maybe would walk that one back if we were to rehash that conversation. But if healthy, I would stick by that. But it's a question of when he gets into games and what Buffalo wants to do with him.
00:11:46
Speaker
Yeah, I know at one point there was some hope that he might be able to play in the preseason, but it's starting to not really look that way, is it? Yeah, it's ticking down. I mean, if he's not back, I got to think by Wednesday, he doesn't really have much of a shot to play Friday, but we'll see.
00:12:02
Speaker
Yeah, I guess while we're talking about the roster and where it's at, I just want to break down real quick a couple of things with the last preseason game against Columbus. I just thought it was really, really good to see the guys come back from being down by three goals. It was at 1.3 nothing. And then ultimately, the Sabres went and scored four answered. And I just thought that it was a great testament to the resiliency of the team
00:12:27
Speaker
The boys coming together. Shout out Devin Levi, who looks pretty leaky to start the game and, you know, corrected. Calm down.
00:12:37
Speaker
fixed whatever was ailing him, got his head right, did his Jedi thing where he meditates right outside the crease. And man, I just I don't know. I know it's preseason and you don't want to put too much stock into preseason anything. But it made me feel good to see the boys bounce back and leave. I'd be able to shut it down. And for our boy, Benny, to get the game winning goal, man, I mean, it wasn't it wasn't a beautiful, fancy, super skilled goal. All it was was hard nose hockey, get to the net, put an awkward shot on that.
00:13:04
Speaker
and goalie couldn't save it and the boys ended up winning that game. So I just wanted to once again shout out Devin Levi for looking not maybe his best to start but quickly calming and correcting and then Benny being the guy to put the game away. I thought it was awesome. Jake or Tom, any thoughts or questions on that?
00:13:22
Speaker
Sweet. Love that. And I got to be honest, this is not a hockey specific analytic here, but I love that he does his little Jedi meditation thing. How badass is that? That's cool. That is cool. And it like builds up brands, you know, like it's smart on his part too, but it's freaking badass. So it is like, I don't know much about the guy and I'm like, I'm rooting for him and I want to like, let's go. Like I want to see him play. So that's pretty cool.
00:13:48
Speaker
Jake talked about it for like a second last week, dude. Goalies are like the weirdest, most voodoo, you know, twisted magic stuff. They're so weird, man. Yeah. And just got to be right. Yeah. Do you think you think I'm superstitious, man? Like, yeah, some pro hockey players do some weird shit. Yeah, man.
00:14:12
Speaker
like I don't blame him like you're riding the you're sitting there taking shots just from some of the best athletes on earth and you just got to eat them and you got to think faster than them and be smarter than them and it's crazy yeah it's it's not a goalie and this is a little bit of a tangent but I think it's like I think it's a high-end player I think it's like Crosby or McDavid or something like that wears the same jock strap that he's worn since junior or something like that that is
00:14:37
Speaker
Terrible dude. Oh my god. It's hanging on by the thread. Just by the threads. It's got holes in it. It's tattered. Yeah. Hockey players are weird, dude. Nice. I'd like to pose a hypothetical question to you, Nigel, before we move on. Yeah, please, dude. I love these. These are my favorite part of this whole silly little podcasting thing that we're doing.
00:14:54
Speaker
Is there a world where we carry three goalies on October 12th? Jesus Christ, dude, don't do that to me. We better not, dude. That's a waste of a roster spot where we can have a player that will impact us way more.
00:15:10
Speaker
I don't disagree. I'm going to play devil's advocate though. Coming in with Levi brand new to the NHL, UPL, let's look shaky and Comrie that's had injury history and also look shaky at times last year. Would it not be good to have to be able to space them out and give them time to focus on their game and rest Levi, for example, throughout the year. So he's not starting 45, 50 games in his rookie season.
00:15:38
Speaker
I see what you're saying. I see the point. And it's a good one. And you almost have me having the ability to rest Levi. But I don't want to commit a roster spot to a third goalie. I feel like we need that third roster spot. Now, I'll follow up with another quick question.
00:16:01
Speaker
What can leave or excuse me, can you be out? Because right now to me, you peel the man out. Can he like if he doesn't make the team, what is his story? Because I don't think he just slides right back through to Rochester, right? He's got a clear waivers. He would need waivers. Yeah.
00:16:19
Speaker
I mean, he might clear if, if, I mean, keep in mind, if an NHL team claims him off waivers, he must be on their starting roster, which I think is the same rules as football, right? Yes, correct. So yeah, he would have to occupy one of two spots on another team. I don't know how many teams out there are looking for a backup goalie, let alone a backup goalie with the many talents of UPL. And who just got out by Comrie, hypothetically?
00:16:46
Speaker
Exactly. Yeah. So especially with how much waiver activity happens towards the end of training camp, I imagine you could probably sneak him down there, but I don't think you could. I think I think people will, I think people will jump all over his, his size and, and, and try to think, convince themselves that all he needs is a change of scenery. Could be, but on the other hand, if he loses the job to Eric Comrie, do I want to lose an asset for free? No. But if he gets claimed, he gets claimed at that point.
00:17:15
Speaker
I hope we trade one of them. Come rear UPL, get something, get it, get a fifth round pick for one of them or whatever. I don't know. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see. Anyway, fun hypothetical. Just wanted to pick your brand. Um, one more like two more things here real quick. Um, so Zeigre signed in Anaheim, um, for what I found to be a super reasonable deal. Um, I saw it was three years, 5.75. I thought that was much less than what he was going to sign for in any event.
00:17:44
Speaker
Um, not something we have to consider or worry about for the savers anymore, because he is remaining in Anaheim. So we can put that to bed and we can focus our attention solely on Patrick Kane. Um, and then kind of like I mentioned earlier, we just have two games left in the preseason. So two really, really, really big days, Wednesday and Friday for guys like Brandon by row, Zach Benson, Ryan Johnson. That was like that time. I can tell you're ready. What do you got? So.
00:18:11
Speaker
Just to continue on some of our excitement here that we've been chomping at the bit to talk about. Let me set the story. Let me set the stage. Sunday morning, it's like 10 a.m.

Bills' Victory Against the Dolphins

00:18:22
Speaker
We're all getting ready, going about our day.
00:18:24
Speaker
having breakfast, going for a walk, right? Doing all that thing. And what is the rest of the league talking about? They're talking about the Miami Dolphins who at the time were considered the most potent offense in the league. They just hung 70 points, 70, seven zero points on the Denver Broncos, which hasn't been done since the sixties, right? I don't know if our parents were born when the last time that happened. So a completely different time of football.
00:18:54
Speaker
And they were known as the greatest show on Surf. Like they were incredible. Who's going to stop them? The Bills don't have a chance. What's going to happen here? Ah, it's going up to Orchard Park. Well, you know what? Do you know what our Buffalo Bills just did to the greatest show on Surf? The Bills welcomed these
00:19:22
Speaker
You just welcomed the dolphins into Orchard Park and laid down the law and routed the dolphins, 48 to 20, sent them home, tails between their legs, dorsal fins tucked away, never to be seen again, and just reminded them who is in fact at the top of the AFC East. Boys, how do we feel? Ooh, buddy, what a set up there, Tom. First of all, pal, well done.
00:19:49
Speaker
I'm speechless after that. Yeah, dude. This is that for me was the most. Oh, my God, I'm so I'm still not over and I'm still so excited about it. The most satisfying win for me in a long time because you're right, dude. Fins Fins Up Nation, dude. You are all so unbelievably insufferable all week.
00:20:14
Speaker
all week, you could not help but run your mouth and run it again and run it again. And like Tom said, the bills laid down the law and reminded all you fins freaks that the division runs through Buffalo and that before you can go and crown yourselves the champs for freaking anything, you have to come through us and get it done. And I'll tell you who you don't have on your team. And it's Josh fucking Allen, dude.
00:20:44
Speaker
17 baby my god jake any any uh things you need to get off your chest i think you guys put it well uh i i really enjoyed seeing tyree kill and jaylen wattle sitting despondent on the sideline kind of leaning in to hear one another because they couldn't hear over the crowd noise so yeah
00:21:06
Speaker
Suck on that one, you domestic abusing piece of shit. Yeah, it felt good. Felt a little schadenfreude, for sure. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. That was perfect. So I think we should go around and really just we got to soak in what we liked from this game. So let's do like, you know, just we bounce around. We each get, I don't know if you want to just throw out one player, one part of the game that you really like, maybe a favorite play.
00:21:30
Speaker
Let's, let's, let's roll this, right? Let's, let's pile on. Yeah. Yeah. Let's pile on, right? Let's pile on baby. That's pile on. So, um, my, my first thing was the defense. I'm going to start here because they absolutely, they stepped up this, this, uh, this, uh, Miami offense came in and they were a problem. They looked like a problem at the beginning of the game too. We were going just blow for blow. We, by, by the middle of the second quarter, it was 14, 14.
00:21:55
Speaker
And it was like, OK, is this going to every team is going to score both teams going to score 40? Like, is that what that's what's going to happen here? I was I was ready for that. I was like, OK, we have to go out for the track meet and we got to keep up. It was the first four drives to write touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, boom, boom, boom, ping pong at its best. So and then Sean McDermott in this bill's defense figured it out.
00:22:18
Speaker
they adjusted. They, they, they absolutely came in and crushed. Um, they ended up with the, um, leaving the game with two turnovers, a fumble recovery and an interception and three fourth down stops who, one of my other favorite podcast, um, listens, uh, Greg Thompson.
00:22:34
Speaker
on cover one Buffalo. Um, he reminds us that like, yeah, two turnovers is important, but a fourth down turn on turn on run downs is also a turnover and almost even more impactful because it's just sucks the energy out of them. So that's five turnovers. If you include two actual turnovers and three turnover on downs, like that's huge. So that's my first shout out for sure. Jake, you want to go next?
00:22:59
Speaker
Nope. Okay. I'll go. Jake's giving me the finger. Um, not, not that finger. He's telling you. So I dude, it's gotta be, it's, it's gotta be 17.
00:23:13
Speaker
Right. I mean, bro, how many how many times is a quarterback had more touchdowns, total touchdowns than they have in completions? Here's some stats, folks. Josh Allen, number 17 franchise quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, 21 of 25. That breaks down to an over 80 percent completion percentage, 320 yards, four passing touchdowns through the air through to Stephon Diggs, one to Gabe Davis, 17 yards rushing, one rushing touchdown.
00:23:41
Speaker
And to put the cherry on top of that delicious sundae, literally a perfect passer rating. Ladies and gentlemen, after a tough week one, Josh Allen is carrying around his nuts in a wheelbarrow. The league better watch out.
00:23:58
Speaker
That feels good. He played lights out, right? He didn't look like the frenetic Josh Allen we saw week one who was a little bit out of control. He felt like he was dialed in and has been for the last three weeks. He played as better, as best a game that I've seen him play in maybe ever. I don't know. I got to go back and look. He's had some great games and like absolute monster performances, but this is up there.
00:24:24
Speaker
Yeah, that's a statement. Yeah, he was sensational. Jake, buddy, Jake had the hiccups. I'm all good. I'm all good. I'm here real quick on Josh. How about that? That design run play throw him in the end zone. Oh my God. And you know what, dude, when you take, when you take the short yardage run conversions off of his plate and you put them on guys like Latavius Murray and Damien Harris, it opens that up to be at like that type of effective where he goes in on touched.
00:24:49
Speaker
Dude, because he faked the I just watched the highlights again while I'm eating my dinner tonight. He faked the toss to James Cook that they've been doing all day, right? He would have faked left and he kept it and just took off and he walked he waltzed in. It's like it's like seven steps for him to go 17 yards and he's in it is sometimes you sometimes forget how fast he really is until you see him like
00:25:14
Speaker
It like the him running compared to the like a group of people dude. He is So fast it is it helps it is huge So this is goes well for our podcast because it's a bills sabers podcast the sabers much many of the sabers were at the game and there's a picture of the of Josh Allen going to see the sabers players who were to Who are there at the game? It looks like he's going over to see like the junior high like track team crazy, dude
00:25:41
Speaker
It's like these are professional athletes who are some of the best in the like in the world. And he makes them look like they're like their children. It's insane. He's a big boy. He's he's a big boy. He's stuck out to me. And granted, he's a smaller player. But Jacob Bryson was there. He looked like a five year old kid. Oh, my God. Clapping like ready to high five. Yeah. Yeah, baby.
00:26:03
Speaker
That's so funny, dude. So then on the other end of Josh Allen's phenomenal game, we got to shout out our boy, him, Steph Diggs, number 14. He came out and he proved, he is, he's, I mean, arguably the best in the league, arguably the best in the league. And he, this was, this is exhibit A in his arguments, six receptions on seven targets, 120 yards and three touchdowns.
00:26:32
Speaker
Three. Yeah. One, two, three. They're all there. Right. And he had all sorts of different kinds of catches. He would catch us in short yardage. He had long way down the field catches where he broke tackles. He broke three tackles. When do we see Stefan Diggs break tackles like that? Do you write usually one? Oh, my God. Just absolutely. Katerko, dude, you bet. You better just hand them in. Like I hang them up, buddy. I hope you didn't go to work today.
00:26:58
Speaker
That was, that was such a pathetic display of tackling right there. My God. Yeah. And then on, and then, then he had his first touchdown was on like, Oh my gosh, we're playing backyard football. The play broke down and it's just, Josh needs an outlet and boom. Who does he got? He's got digs. Just, this is the guy and any, and kind of doubts in question about if digs wants to be here in Buffalo can go right out the window.
00:27:23
Speaker
He was happy as could be on that sideline. Three, three touchdowns. He was clearly the best receiving option on the field on either side of the ball. Yeah, dude, he was absolutely dominant. Jake, go ahead.
00:27:38
Speaker
A little tangent, but earlier on in this podcast, we posed the question, how many games does it take before Diggs really does one on a Buffalo? I love that that's put to bed. And we drew the comparisons to Jamar Chase. And I saw Jamar Chase have a quote saying something like, I'm open. I'm always fucking open. What do you want me to do?
00:27:55
Speaker
So I don't know where I'm going with that. Just I'm happy that we are where we are. Yeah. Yeah. I'm not trying to pile on the Bengals. That's not who we played. But no, no, no, no. We can pile on the Bengals. Boy, do they look like an absolute tragedy, dude. But that's we can talk about that because we play them down the road. Yeah, we'll get there. We'll get there. I do for me. Got to shout out that defensive line again, dude. My God, man, those boys are those boys are eating, man. I think the first three games this season two had been sacked one time.
00:28:25
Speaker
one out of three games yesterday we got him we got him down four times dude um so i mean let's see i know groot had two sacks daequan jones had a sack i think at oliver had the fourth dude so i mean for our defensive tackles to be the ones getting in there um that's that's huge dude and just a testament to the pass rush ability i do i can get okay no
00:28:48
Speaker
Finns nation, you don't understand. I can't stand you. Not from from the bottom of my soul. I think you're truly insufferable. However, I can I can give you one spot where I would also be pissed that Daequan Jones sack dude, he landed every bit of his 300 some on pounds during the onto. I could not believe that wasn't a flag.
00:29:11
Speaker
Outside of that, I think the game was very well called Fence Nation. Well, he's very angry. They love to play everything on the refs. But yeah, dude, so that just that defensive lineman and then. Oh, one quick thing. Tom shouted out the defense in general. I just specifically Sean McDermott, dude. So again, first three games of the season. One of the reasons that two had been so dominant was he was getting the ball out so incredibly quick.
00:29:37
Speaker
And he was getting it out so quick because he was able to get to his first read 80% of the time. Sean McDermott took that down to, I believe, it was 56% on Sunday. So when you get him off it. Which is a huge drop. Yeah, dude. For those of you following along at home, that's a big deal. It might not sound like it on paper, dude. But that is incredibly substantial. I'll tell you what, man. The word blueprint is going to get tossed around after that bill's defensive performance. Yeah. Teams are going to take that film and be like, this is what we do.
00:30:07
Speaker
to slow down. I mean, Hill and Waddle were held under a hundred receiving yards, no touchdowns for the two of them. It was just, yeah. Jake, anything else, buddy? I think we, we get over to you here. Just, I mean, in the spirit of piling on, I can't remember the last time I felt this good about the running backs and the game that the run game is playing. Yeah, dude. Maybe, maybe not like as like Jimmy, as far as what we've seen from James cook recently, I think he only had like 29 or 39 yards, something like that.
00:30:34
Speaker
But man, like Latavius Murray, dude, that big 20 some odd yard scamper he had early in the game, like that guy's the oldest running back in the league. Yeah, that's the old like, I mean, he's 33. So that makes that that's, you know, that's more 30. Yeah, here we are. But anyway, like that's that that's the oldest running back in the league and he looks good and he's our change of pace back. Let's go. Yeah, dude. No, Jake, that's a great that's a great comment. Absolutely. And
00:31:01
Speaker
to kind of continue on tha you're right, it wasn't t might have seen out of run time when it was used wa three games of the year, about that first down off
00:31:20
Speaker
We don't really get anything. It's stuffed in the backfield. Something happens. We don't get much on first down. Well, in this Miami game, this run game, like James Cook was getting four or five, six yards on first down and boom, all of a sudden we're in second and short and the playbook opens up, right? Like that's a big deal. It's not a volume was not there when maybe what you want to want to want to see. But when it was used and how it was used, I think is incredibly important. Yeah, dude, absolutely, man.
00:31:50
Speaker
Anybody else have anything they want to toss? I mean, there's so much to love from that game. But anything else we want to get to before we get to one resounding negative from the game?

Impact of Tre'Davious White's Injury

00:32:00
Speaker
I think just all in all coming in and stepping up to the plate, seeing this team rise to the occasion. And that's a concern for this team. We always get to the playoffs and things don't quite go how we want them to go. So no, this is not a playoff game, but this is a big game. There was a lot of hype on the other side. There was a lot of hype for what can the Bills do? Can they hang in this game?
00:32:23
Speaker
And they clearly showed that they can hang. This is a great starting spot and we need to continue. As excited as we are, we do need to remember that this is week four. Nobody's crowned in week four. Nobody cares what's happened in week four. We may look back in week 17 and be like, oh man, remember week four? This is not the end of it. There's a lot of games to be played. There's a lot of football to be played.
00:32:47
Speaker
But man, this is a great way to just continue what the bills are doing and they need to continue to build. So I'm happy for it and really excited. But I do want to say we're not crowning anybody. The bills have yet to prove anything. And we got to continue fighting in the direction we're going. Yeah. Well said, buddy. A resounding team win, no doubt. And we can take today the rest of today to dunk on Finn's nation. And then we got to turn our attention to the to the Jags, baby. Tom, what's up?
00:33:16
Speaker
I totally forgot. We got a shout out to you, Bass. Who is still perfect? Oh, yeah. Freakin thing. Not one. Not one kick has he missed. Do that. Two doinks. Two doinkers. Who cares? Doinkers count just as good as slaughters. So that's a 53 yarder. He said, dude, that thing, that was absolutely striped, dude. That would have been good from like 65. Yeah.
00:33:43
Speaker
Like my man, I just we cannot leave without shouting at our boy. Yep, you're absolutely right. All right. Well, we do have we do have one gut wrenching thing that we do have to talk about. And boy, is it a huge price to pay to come out of that game with a resounding win. But
00:34:01
Speaker
Confirmed today from Sean McDermott, Dredavious White, down for the year with an Achilles injury and Achilles tear. Man, I mean, obviously your heart just, your heart breaks for him, man, because the guy battled so, so, so, so, so hard to come back from the ACL. You could tell last year that he still wasn't quite himself when he came back.
00:34:25
Speaker
This season, he starts to look like the Trey White that we know he has that unreal interception in the red zone last week. And then today or yesterday, rather, not contact goes down, grabs the Achilles is clearly visibly distraught. And all you can do is keep in your prayers, man. It is you just at this point for me, man, I worry about his mental. I mean, how do you it's got to be. I can't even imagine how hard that has to be to come back from.
00:34:53
Speaker
yet again an injury of that magnitude. Yeah, he worked hard and there's video evidence of this of him coming back and talking about it and from that first initial injury and coming back and last year not quite feeling or looking like himself and then this year he was feeling it. You could tell that he wanted it. He almost had a dropped interception today or yesterday, right? Like he was excited.
00:35:18
Speaker
Yeah, could have been right. And it was right there. And to see his reaction on the field was heart wrenching. You knew right away, like you knew by his reaction on the field that something this was not just a normal tweak. And my heart just sank and it was a pit in my stomach. And you're absolutely right. You said it great. Very well, Nige. Yeah, thoughts, thoughts up for for Trey thinking about your bud. We appreciate you. We love you.
00:35:42
Speaker
Um, to seven, you're the man. Um, we don't think any less of you and, uh, we're rooting for you to get back there. Yup. I had, um, huh, man. I had a buddy today was like, dude, like, is, is there, and I, I don't even like saying this out loud because it makes me sad, but he was like, is there a world that we live in now where Trey White just retires?
00:36:01
Speaker
and has to hang him up, dude. And that made me want to burst into tears, dude, because, I mean, he was the first guy that Sean McDermott drafted, right? And just to me signifies that the first draft in a new era of
00:36:18
Speaker
Buffalo Bills football. And to think about that guy not playing for this team anymore is is really, really, really a bummer, man. But I don't know. I mean, only Trey White knows how he feels if he can recover or just go through that grueling process again. I know Achilles injuries for players. I mean, a little bit more position specific, but like running backs, it's a brutal thing to come back from. I would imagine CB kind of similar story, but I'm not a doctor. I don't know. You know,
00:36:46
Speaker
Yeah, what we should do is at some point, maybe this week or next, as we go through Dr. Kyle Trimble, who is associated with the Bills. Well, at least he's been reporting on the Bills for quite some time and puts out awesome content. So we'll link him and talk about him. But he has a great article that I read this morning, and I don't remember specific. So I'm not going to get into them and try and remake them. But he did talk about it. Players have come back from two Achilles injuries. It has happened.
00:37:13
Speaker
particularly the name that jumped from the page was Richard Sherman, who is gonna go down as one of the best cornerback to ever played the game. And so I think it's absolutely in the realm of possibility, but it depends on what Trey, you're right, of what Trey wants to do, what his wishes are. So at some point we should, I'll go back and read that article and come back maybe next week with some more specifics on what that might look like. But yeah, absolutely. That's the thing about Trey. This is heartbreaking.
00:37:38
Speaker
Um, and, um, absolutely a big deal. But before we move on, I think, I think we got to talk about him kind of about the comeback of that, right? Of, okay, what does this mean next? Thankfully, I mean, this is awful. This is not something I would wish on anybody. And I never wished would happen, but of all the rooms and the Buffalo Bill's roster, this might be an okay one for us to sustain an injury.
00:38:02
Speaker
You're absolutely correct. Yeah. And you can honestly, for me, you can say that say that about the entire secondary, dude. The secondary on this Buffalo Bills team is so, so, so, so deep. So I guess I'll start with predictably what I think this means for the team. I think you're new to starting cornerbacks are going to be Dane Jackson and Christian Benford. I believe you'll you'll start to see Kyrie Elam be active on game days. He hasn't been active up to this point. And this injury, I believe, will change that.
00:38:31
Speaker
And then I think you'll see Jamarcus Ingram get pulled up from the practice squad to be an additional backup on game days. And I think that's probably the extent of the fallout. It's not something that's going to make me lose sleep at this point, unless, and I'll knock on wood.
00:38:47
Speaker
I don't, unless another injury takes place, I don't foresee us making any free agent moves on the position. I think this, this coaching staff trusts who we have here in the locker room and on the practice squad. Um, and I'm inclined to agree with that. I think our cornerback room is really deep. So it doesn't keep me up at night. It's not great. Um, but like you said, Tom, we're deep here.
00:39:11
Speaker
What happened with Christian Benford? I saw his arm or something earlier in the game. Is he good? Yeah, he came. He finished the game. So I think he'll be all right. If an NFL player finishes, gets injured, comes off and then goes back in and finishes the game, that's usually not something to be too concerned about.
00:39:30
Speaker
You'll probably have to have some rebat rehab and some work on it, but nothing crazy. Um, I do think that this is now an open door for Kyra Elon, right? Like not only this year, but I think in coming up years, right? Like, I think this is okay. This is, this is your chance to come in and make an impact on this roster and prove why you were a first round pick. Um, and, and why you deserve to have a starting spot on this team. I'm excited. I'm excited to see him and the young guy, the young buck come in and do something and.
00:39:56
Speaker
But thank God we have Christian Benford and Dane Jackson who are both phenomenal players and I'm like you said nice I'm not gonna lose sleep over it except for just my thoughts and kind of worrying about you know Portray. Yeah. Yeah, obviously prayers up for tea whiteness family But yeah, dude, I think I think we'll be okay You know, you still got
00:40:19
Speaker
At this point, Poyer is considered day-to-day, so I would imagine that'll mean he's good to go for this Sunday. So you still got that veteran presence in Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Quick shot on Micah Hyde. Two games in a row now with an INT. So you love to see that. The ball hawk in the back there causing for some turnovers there, and you love to see it. But yeah, man, I think we're going to be OK. I don't think it's anything that we need to smash the panic button for by any stretch of the imagination.
00:40:48
Speaker
What do you say, boy? Should we get over to discuss what we need to think about for London? Yes. Yeah. Foggy, foggy London, London town.

Preview: Bills vs. Jaguars in London

00:40:58
Speaker
Is that a good accent? I don't know. None of us should accept any accent of the three of us. We are the worst to try and do that. No, no, we should absolutely not. I'm ready for some teen crumpets. Don't you say? I don't think don't you say is a thing. I don't know.
00:41:15
Speaker
Well, hey, yeah, you're right. We are the Buffalo Bills. They're taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars next week, Sunday morning. So folks, set your alarms. We're playing in the morning. I believe it's a nine o'clock nine 30 game. I think.
00:41:29
Speaker
nine thirty nine thirty games. So thank God we don't live on the west coast could be a six thirty game. And so, yeah, we're we're heading out. The Jackson Jaguars have just played the Atlanta Falcons in London and they're staying the week. So they are still there. That's right there is the biggest storyline. Yeah, I agree. Like what are they going to be? Are they going to be tired and ready to go home? Or are they going to be acclimated and had a good week and ready to play?
00:41:59
Speaker
I think that's the one, dude. I think this is a I think this is a tremendously huge advantage for Jacksonville. Jake, go ahead, bro. I'm just curious how the travel works for London games. Like when are the bills heading over? You know, I don't know. I have no idea. I imagine we'll see it on their social media. And I would imagine it's going to be like.
00:42:17
Speaker
tomorrow. Like I would imagine they got to get there to give themselves time to acclimate because I mean, that's a massive time change. So I would think they're going to get there sooner than later. But yeah, you would hope so. The fact that Jacksonville has been there for over a week now, that feels like so unfair to me.
00:42:35
Speaker
I mean, yeah, it does, but it also, there's a part of me is like, wait a second. Wait, are they going to be homesick? They're away from their families. They're away from their kids. They're away from their normal routine and they're in this other place. Could they be tired? You know, it absolutely could. It could be, or, or it could be, okay, we're, we're, we're, we're ready to go. And these Buffalo bills are jet lag coming in, rolling off the plane and let's see what happens there. So it could absolutely go either way. I just don't know what I think.
00:43:00
Speaker
I'll be honest, Tom, I have a hard time picturing a world where a bunch of guys in their mid late twenties and early thirties go to London and are sad because they miss their wives and kids. Okay, fair. So I don't, I mean, maybe you could be right. Maybe, maybe, you know, maybe they went out too much and they're a little bit low key, who knows? But I overall, man, I think it's a huge advantage for Jacksonville because
00:43:26
Speaker
at this point, no matter when the bills get there, I can't imagine that they're going to feel like fully acclimated to that to that time change. So that's a big storyline for me. Outside of that, dude, we should beat the shit out of these guys.
00:43:45
Speaker
Yeah, they looked good against the Falcons, but it was the Falcons Yeah, dude, so I so a couple names offensively That I think you know, we need to be aware of obviously Trevor Lawrence is an up-and-coming young QB the guy can sling the ball also athletic You got to make sure he doesn't get you know run all over you doesn't get loose. Yep ETN Okay. Sure. He's obviously fast, but
00:44:15
Speaker
Hasn't done anything really this year that's really made my head explode. Do you, do you know anything different, Tom and Jake? No. Um, especially considering the other running backs that we've, we've played, like, I think he's well within, within that range. Um, uh, so yeah, I think he, he definitely could be a problem if he gets rolling, but I think our run defense can handle him.
00:44:36
Speaker
Yeah, Calvin Ridley, Christian Kirk. I mean, they got two receivers that are listed as out right now. Zay Jones and Jamal Agnew. Calvin Ridley, he's had a couple of good games, but the last few weeks, from what I've seen, nothing really to write about. Kind of stinkers, yeah. Yeah, Christian Kirk doesn't scare me. Evan Ingram, I think, is like, in terms of fantasy, at least, is like the number one tight end. But we have a guy named Matt Milano, who is a tight end eraser.
00:45:03
Speaker
So, I don't care who your tight end is unless his name is Travis. Those biceps don't care. And, I mean, as far as an offensive line goes, Brandon Schurf is really good. He's a really good right guard. Cam Robinson, Tyler Shatley is also a good guard, but I don't know, man, this looks like an offense, especially after what we just saw from this team. I mean, that's the problem with what we just saw, dude. Now we know what we're capable of.
00:45:33
Speaker
Is there anybody that should score more than 20 points against us? I know it's the NFL. It's a week to week business. Humble pie is only six days away or seven days away. But I mean, fuck dude, this, I mean, this offense doesn't scare me at all. No, no, they should. And they shouldn't. I think we can absolutely outscore them. I think the biggest, I think you're right. The biggest question is, can they, do the bills teams, does the bill teams land and, and are they flipped upside down or are they there and they're dialed in and they're ready to play?
00:46:03
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, dude. And then and then if you look at the defensive side of the ball, Josh Allen there, Josh Allen is a guy is a guy to talk about. He is obviously a really, really, really good d end. But I mean, you know, we haven't had a problem with any of that so far this year. And especially if it's only one guy, the rest of this defensive line
00:46:26
Speaker
I mean, it's nothing right home about Adam. Got this. I'm not even going to try and pronounce the nose tackles name, but maybe it'll be funny. I don't know. For Lorenzo Faruqasi is there you go. Roy Robinson Harris. These are all names I've literally never heard of. You got Andre Sisco, who is a good free safety. He's had a really solid career, was really good at Syracuse. But and yeah, I don't know, dude, like.
00:46:56
Speaker
a team that I think we should absolutely throw the ball all over, man. I agree. So let me let me flip it this way. What do you want to see from the bills to be successful? What do you want to continue seeing or maybe some slight tweaks that you see from either defensive or offensive side of the ball? What would you want to see to make sure, OK, let's feel good and go into the come out of this game feeling like we still got momentum like we do.
00:47:18
Speaker
Um, for me, dude, I would like to see James could get back on track the way he has been the first or the last couple of weeks prior to the dolphins game. Um, if he can get a little bit more back on track and honestly, dude, like I just, I just want to see the continued efficiency from Josh Allen. I don't care if your stat line is a hundred yards. If you took 20 check downs and you threw for 125 yards, but you didn't turn over the ball.
00:47:41
Speaker
like I'm fine with that dude if that's what they're giving you like if if they double step gigs and they're just playing a too high shell all game just chuck it to Jimmy over and over again take what they're giving you continue to be okay with taking those check downs and get the run game established and I think for me dude like you established that run game against these guys good night yeah I agree
00:48:04
Speaker
I think, yeah, let's get, let's get the boys rolling. Let's let Josh cook and be, and be as efficient as we've seen and smart as we've seen. He's been really good. Like if he can play like that, I don't know who's going to stop him, right? On the defensive side of the ball, I would love to continue seeding, continue to see this defensive line eat.
00:48:27
Speaker
and just do what they do. Daequan Jones has been playing out of his mind. Ed Oliver has been playing out of his mind. And Leonard Floyd, Asia Bonessa had some impact in that game. Kingsley Jonathan had some impact on that last game, right? Like we are all the way down the depth chart on the defensive line has looked phenomenal. And I'm excited to continue to see it. So would, yeah, I'm feeling good, but I would love to
00:48:53
Speaker
Um, yeah, have them continue to, to, um, really make a presence here. Yeah, absolutely. Jake, anything you want to touch on or questions about the game or anything like that? I just want to see him, see him continue what they're doing. Nothing, nothing specific for me. Yeah. It should be a game where, you know, just take care of business and you should walk out of there with another W.
00:49:15
Speaker
Hey, wait a second. Wait a second. Do you guys hear something? Do you guys hear that? I don't hear anything. You're not hearing anything? Are you sure? I don't know. Oh, Tom, what do you have now? Wild, wacky, whimsical whiffs of the week. Okay, boys. We're getting weird.
00:49:38
Speaker
We're going to get weird with it. We're going to talk about something that is never going to happen, something weird, something you would, you would, your skin would crawl if you saw it kind of thing. But what if it happened? So for this week, I have a score agami happening across the pond in London, 29 to 11, bills win. And I'm going to tell you how they get there.
00:50:03
Speaker
All right, Josh Allen throws three touchdowns. Two of them, Tyler Bass knocks the extra point in. Now, I'm not picking Tyler Bass to miss an extra point, but the other one, they're going to go for two, but they're not going to get it. So that's six points on the board. So we're up to 20, and then they kick three field goals to get us to 29. Now, the Jaguars, 11 points. They score a touchdown. They get the two-point conversion, and then they knock in a field goal. And we have Scoragami in London. Book it.
00:50:31
Speaker
Book it. Place your bets. Here we go. Wow. I love it. I'm here for it. I love it. There it is. All right. Well, hey, everybody. Wait a minute. We have score predictions, you and I. Oh, that's right. That's right. I was so excited. I was riding this wave. I was like just picked up and I was running. OK, my score prediction. I think Bills win 35-17.
00:50:57
Speaker
Oh, Tom, you almost stole mine. I literally I was I can have the same if you want. I have 3817 bills in my head. I got to be honest, Nigel, we I thought we had a deal that where you had to pick against the bills every week, because every time you do, we have a fantastic game. I pick against the bills when I truly feel like there is a real solid shot that they that they could not come through. Don't forget, dude.
00:51:19
Speaker
The last time I did predict us to win, we kicked the living shit. We also. Yeah, you know what? You're doing pretty good. All right. I think we can follow you. So, yes, but my karma skills are clearly not that not that impactful. Tom, take us home, my friend. All right, folks, what a show we've recapped some sabers preseason. We've touched on the Dolphins route by the Buffalo Bills and previewed our Jacksonville Jaguars V Bills game this welcoming weekend.
00:51:49
Speaker
Don't forget our Buffalo lads are playing quite a bit this week. The Sabres are playing Columbus Wednesday night, 7 p.m. preseason game. Sabres are also playing Pittsburgh Friday night, 7 p.m. preseason game. And then our lovely Buffalo Bills are playing the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday at 9 30 a.m. Set your alarms, have some breakfast with the boys and go root on some Buffalo sports here.
00:52:12
Speaker
