Self-Reflection and Gratitude

All right, I'm to take a moment, and I'll ask for your forgiveness of taking a moment of self-reflection here.

Everything in my life I owe to two people, and two people exclusively, and those would be my mother and my father.
Father's Legacy and Influence

And it's a bit of a milestone in my own personal life as I have officially outlived my father. My father died as a very young man at the age of just a couple days after his 56th birthday.

And that's 20 years ago.

And his influence on my life, I had the privilege of working with that man every day of my life for from 25 to 35. And I watched him deal with disrespect, with disappointment, with I would even say despair on some fronts.

And yet I don't think I could ever say that he was depressed. He... got up and went to work every single day with the sole focus of providing for his family. And he did a marvelous job at that.
Respecting the Parent-Child Relationship

his reputation amongst his friends and those that appreciate him is has never for a second dulled it's been fabulous as i've meandered through life and encountered people that uh i've known since i was a kid and they the stories they have about my dad and of my dad are just clearly heartfelt.

And his legacy, if you will, his impact has not diminished over time. I hope that you have that same experience in your life. And if you don't, I hope that you can give that experience to your children. It is become an increasingly strange world where for whatever reasons kids seem to think that it's in their best interest to either besmirch their parents or to minimize their impact and sort of limit their associations with them and I think that's a tragedy I truly do

That connection between parent and child is deep and lasting and should and ought to be respected.

Anyway, it's a fabulous life. It is what you make of it. I would... encourage you to either rebuild those relationships with your folks. If that is not possible, then I encourage you to, those relationships with your children and either be equal to the example that was set for you or be better than the example that was set for you. Either way, I don't think there's a more important job in this entire world than being mothers and fathers and, and
