Movie Discussion: 'Freddy Got Fingered'
00:00:00
Speaker
Hey everybody, welcome to episode 52 of Predetermined, a Pro Wrestling Hangout. I'm your host, Garrett Callender. And with me, as always, a man who is 28 years old and can eat a chicken sandwich if he wants to, Derek Halpin. I am 31 years old. I wish I was 28 years old and I can't eat a chicken sandwich anytime I want to because that's a fantastic Freddie Got Fingered reference to start this podcast. Mike Fitzgibbon's son's a nuclear physicist and mine can eat a chicken sandwich.
00:00:30
Speaker
God damn, that's a great movie. What made you decide to open the show with a Freddy Got Fingered reference this week? I have absolutely no idea. I have no idea. I still think about that show on a week to week basis. The movie? Yeah. Yeah, I got in trouble seeing that movie with you.
00:00:50
Speaker
you did get in trouble we went there for my birthday and whatever year that came out in theaters and your mom used to be pretty strict on what kind of movies you could and could not watch and that was one that i was dead set on going to see and you wanted to find a way to sneak in there and i got you in i remember having to hear this sentence from my mother you are not seeing that movie i heard on the radio he masturbates a horse
00:01:19
Speaker
and Garrett was like, that makes me wanna see it even more. That's, yeah, and that shaped me into who I am today, so my mom tried. Derek, it's your fault. You know, it's, here we are. Yeah,
Transition to Wrestling: The Rock in 'The Mummy Returns'
00:01:32
Speaker
was she mad at me after that, or was she just mad at you? Oh, I came, I told her that we were going to see the mummy returns, and then came back and just loved Freddy Got Fingered so much that I was like, I lied, I went to Freddy Got Fingered, and it was awesome. You are such an instigating piece of shit. You came in there ready to start a fight.
00:01:49
Speaker
No, I came in and was like, it was too good. Just give me whatever punishment you have. And then I think I didn't. Your mom can't avoid how shitty you are. That's the reality. And the way we tied all this back into wrestling is you lied and said you were going to see the Mummy Returns, which featured a CGI version of The Rock. Hit our goddamn music.
00:02:41
Speaker
And we're back talking wrestling and not Freddy Got Fingered. For the longest time, Freddy Got Fingered was my go to movie to watch on Valentine's Day. And believe it or not, I got significant others to go along with that all along the way. How many significant others have watched that movie with you on Valentine's Day? Because that is unbelievable to me. At least three that I can think of.
00:03:06
Speaker
Damn. Why that? Why did that become a tradition? I don't know. At one point, for whatever reason, I watched it on Valentine's Day with a girlfriend and I thought, this seems like a good tradition. You know what a good tradition would
Call for Reviews and Wrestling Suggestions
00:03:19
Speaker
be? What's that, Derek? If our listeners could do us the kind favor of hopping on iTunes, giving us that five star review, leaving us a nice comment, we would really appreciate that. And if you do leave us a review,
00:03:36
Speaker
Wink, wink. We will watch anything you want as long as it can be tied into pro wrestling. Anything, Derek? Anything. If you can find some minuscule way to tie this whole thing that you're pushing on us into pro wrestling, we have to watch it. We have to talk about it on the show. Don't you want that to happen? Don't you want to make us suffer? Or you could gift us something really sweet. Maybe it's a five-star match.
00:04:01
Speaker
Yeah, I feel like we've been pushing too hard on like, torture me with some bullshit, but it's like, hey, if you got something good, I would like to also see that. Maybe our listeners aren't as fucked up as we are. Maybe they want to give us something nice. Maybe they listened to their moms and didn't go see Freddy got fingered.
00:04:20
Speaker
Either way, yeah, give us that five star rating, give us the review, we'd love you for it. And also, if you haven't already, hop on social media.

Humorous Anecdotes: Mom's Birthday Wrestling Show
00:04:57
Speaker
Hey, and you know what? If you're in the Nashville area, not this Sunday, but next Sunday, the 20th. Basement East, 2 p.m. Nick Gage, Brett Eisen, Southern Underground Pro. Come on, we're sponsoring a show with Nick Gage on it.
00:05:12
Speaker
You know we wouldn't lead you wrong. I'm bringing my mother to this show. Which once again you can see I have a... What kind of relationship is this? That it's her birthday weekend and I'm taking her to her first wrestling show ever to see Mr. Nicholas Gage. Someone's dying for approval, literally.
00:05:36
Speaker
I know I joked a long time ago that I want to go get a photo of my mother with Nick Gage, and the more I thought about it, I just started feeling bad.
00:05:48
Speaker
about what part? What's the twist in this? Taking my mom on her birthday to meet an ex-con? Yeah, that's what you're doing. First of all, I don't know if we've had an opportunity to talk about how this situation came about. Why are you taking your mom to see Nick Gage?
00:06:08
Speaker
That was her birthday weekend and I said, well, we're sponsoring a wrestling show that weekend. So I mean, I have to be in Nashville. I said, if you want to come to Nashville, we can celebrate your birthday here. And then I mean, you're more than welcome to come along to the wrestling show. She took that a lot more seriously than I was expecting. And I'm going to maybe have a bad idea. It really truly does, doesn't it, Derek? It doesn't feel like good is going to happen.
00:06:37
Speaker
So our listeners may or may not realize this, but Garrett's dad does listen to this podcast. He's he's a regular. You could say his name is Bruce. He's a good man. He's always treated me. He's always treated me fairly. And I just I'm sending this message specifically to you, Bruce.
00:06:56
Speaker
what you're allowing your son to do to your wife is unthinkable. I am not condoning this whole thing. This is a bad idea. I don't know why your mom's going along with it. I have to assume she has no idea.
00:07:17
Speaker
She has no clue what she's getting herself into. When all of this is over and she sees the things you're going to show her at Southern Underground Pro, she's going to view what we do, what you and I do on a week to week basis for this podcast. She's going to view it a lot differently because she's going to think that what she sees there with Nick Gage is what you're into. Hey, we don't know. Nick Gage might have just a regular match at Southern Underground Pro where nobody bleeds.
00:07:49
Speaker
Is that how you really feel? Is that what you think's gonna happen? No, I have a feeling that Brett Eisen and Nick Gage are gonna just bleed all over that fucking place. Bruce, do not let your wife wear something nice to this show.
00:08:02
Speaker
Well, maybe the fine folks at Southern Underground Pro will let my mom sit up on the stage, try and get away from where the violence is happening. Though, you brought up my dad, and that made me think of this as far as violence goes. This was in college at some point. My dad was shirtless in the kitchen. I walked up to him.
00:08:24
Speaker
I don't know why- Did you chop him? No, I walked up to him, stared him straight in the eyes, and stuck my finger in his belly button.
00:08:36
Speaker
my dad immediately just so swiftly i didn't know the man could move like this punch me straight this this is pre-ddp yoga oh yeah yeah yeah i did he wasn't he wasn't as limber as he is now and he just punched me straight in the throat straight in the throat took me down to the ground and all he like i looked up at him in fear uh because he is i'm gonna die i didn't
00:09:07
Speaker
And all he said was, you gonna do it again? And I think I just sulked away. So I feel like if my dad came, he would have that like red foreman attitude of, I'll kick his fucking ass. But I don't know if my dad could beat Nick Gage in a fight. What were you thinking? I don't know, this may be the hardest I've ever laughed on the show.
00:09:38
Speaker
Yeah, I definitely wouldn't put my finger in your dad's belly button. So all I'm saying is, if you don't think I can handle a chop to my chest, I took a bruise punch to the throat. You gonna do it again? That's what he says to Nick Gage after he gets the pizza cutter out. Oh god.
Controversial Wrestling Moments: Priscilla Kelly
00:10:00
Speaker
I hope by the end of the night my mom's chanting MDK.
00:10:06
Speaker
That's gonna take some I need a moment
00:10:12
Speaker
This is unexpectedly like my favorite story. So you weren't even thinking. You were just like, I'm gonna put my finger in there and probably get away with it. Well, I knew he wasn't gonna like it, but you know, like you said, I'm a bit of a heel. I knew it was gonna elicit some sort of reaction. I just didn't realize that it was like the equivalent of just, you know, lighting a wick that is way too close to the end and the firecracker explodes in your hand.
00:10:42
Speaker
I hope he has the same reaction when he sees you after you take his wife to Southern Underground Pro. Who knows, maybe your mom will love it. Oh God, that's wonderful. Good on you. So you're taking your mom on her birthday. You know what, there's some things she might enjoy. Mr. Brickster is, you know, he's cuddly, he's adorable, his Legos are his thing, cabana man Dan. Tropical theme, chops people with a flip-flop. You know, maybe she'll like some of it.
00:11:10
Speaker
Isn't Craig Mitchell scheduled to be there? Sir, Craig Mitchell is fighting Stab the Wrestler, and we hopefully will find out the identity of who this masked madman with a knife is. You need to do your best to get your mom in a picture with Craig Mitchell and Nick Gage. I don't want to push my luck. And also, I'm a little afraid of Nick Gage. I would be more comfortable approaching him alone than being like, hello, Nicholas, this is my mother. Here's my mother.
00:11:46
Speaker
Nicholas St. Nicholas gauge. Oh fuck. Oh fuck
00:11:52
Speaker
So did you hear about Priscilla Kelly? God damn, Derek, so much. We might as well go from your dad's belly button to Priscilla Kelly. It's funny that this happened, what, like one, maybe two weeks after I was singing her praise is like the next big thing. Like the person, I'm like, she fucking rules. She's going to make a name for herself. You're going to know this person's name. Little did we know two weeks later, you were going to know her name for reasons we weren't expecting.
00:12:21
Speaker
I was I can't even remember what I was doing. I couldn't even tell you what night it was when this when this story broke. But it was all over Twitter and I was sitting there scrolling through and I I saw I think I saw Jim Ross was the one who commented on it. And I watched the video and I gagged. I fucking gagged. Is it bad that I didn't like to me it's not that big of a deal.
00:12:49
Speaker
see some people are saying that some people aren't I just for those who are not in the know which I'm sure if you're listening to a pro wrestling podcast most of you know Priscilla Kelly was was having a match who was it against by the way she okay so it was it suburban fight pro which is a no ring death match
00:13:10
Speaker
What I guess Federation, what do you call it? No name no ring deathmatch show that they put on in Los Angeles and she was fighting another wrestler named tuna Yeah, yeah, how does that sit with you? Yeah
00:13:29
Speaker
Continue, Derek. There's a point in the match where, I guess, Tuna's sitting in a chair and Priscilla Kelly says, you want the Tuna. Proceeds to reach down into her tights and pull out a bloody tampon. And shoves it down her throat. And... And it turns out some people find this offensive.
00:13:56
Speaker
Yeah. I am on the same page as Priscilla Kelly on this one. It was a 21 and up show at a bar, a no ring death match. It's not like kids were around. You know, you kind of knew where you were if you were at that. That still could have been somebody's first show. I love that any show can be somebody's first show.
00:14:16
Speaker
and that could easily be the moment where like, I don't think I like pro wrestling. That's what I'm saying. I think that was my girlfriend's reaction when I showed her to her. She's like, imagine that being your first show. Like I'm going to go give this pro wrestling thing a try and then.
00:14:30
Speaker
No. Look, it created such controversy online because some of the older guys, Jim Ross, Road Dogg, some others, were saying that it was embarrassing and disgusting. Yeah, embarrassing for Tuna because she was getting defeated. It's possible to take a look at this. First of all, let's be clear.
00:14:55
Speaker
I didn't know 100% how I felt about this. I knew pretty much how I felt. I felt validated when I saw that Tessa Blanchard didn't like it.
00:15:06
Speaker
For some reason her opinion mattered the most to me. Like you wanted to see a young woman who's about the same age as Priscilla and just still works the indie scene but has like a like a name. Her family is involved and she thought it was fucking she didn't like it.
00:15:25
Speaker
Yeah, a spot like that isn't going to be for everybody, but not everything was meant to be for everybody. That's true. But wasn't the intention of the spot was was it was meant to be disgusting, correct? Yeah, that was the idea. I don't think even when she did that, she obviously knew that was going to be a shocking move. Right. But I think I can't remember who pointed this out online, but they said if you do something in wrestling and then you have to go online and explain it and defend yourself, then it didn't connect.
00:15:59
Speaker
I don't know. If you can't just let it stand on its own, if you have to go, no, here's why it's okay, then is it? I can't tell you, I can't tell somebody not to do something because, yes, there are comparable things to that. I don't know if they quite go that far. People have a thing with period blood. Pussy blood doesn't go over well with people.
00:16:23
Speaker
I for one do not fear it. Bullshit. What do you mean bullshit? Bullshit. Not bullshit. If I had, fuck we're talking about this, if I had a bloody tampon and I was threatening to put it on your face you would be freaking the fuck out. Saying that you don't have a problem with it.
00:16:44
Speaker
I'm saying the times I have encountered period blood have been with a significant other and that never- This is wonderful conversation to be having where we just like five minutes ago we were talking about your dad and your mom. Hey, pro wrestling takes you to places. Yeah, and I think this is a place a lot of people were like, I'm definitely not going there, right?
00:17:06
Speaker
Oh man, a story came to my mind that I don't feel comfortable with my parents hearing. Yeah, you shouldn't. Okay, but I'm going to go ahead and tell it. Here's an encounter I had with period blood. Why? You don't want to hear stories of my sexual past, Derek? No.
00:17:31
Speaker
I don't. Especially with the setup. Okay, fine. I won't tell it. If anyone wants to hear the story, meet me behind the Foreman Mills. Or DM him on Twitter or something. Not like kissing and telling.
Defending Controversial Elements in Wrestling
00:17:45
Speaker
I wasn't gonna name names. I don't give a fuck. The name wasn't the part that I was worried about. Okay, well just know, since you didn't hear the story, you can't tell me that I fear period blood.
00:17:58
Speaker
Would you agree that most people are grossed out by pussy blood? Derek, I would say that most people are grossed out by just blood in general. But let's go ahead and- Pussy blood in particular. Why is that blood scarier than the gauges blood that ended up on me? Oh my God. So sweat from my forehead to use the same as sweat from my taint.
00:18:22
Speaker
You know that it's not true. You know it's not true. I only know that's true because I know you got a sweaty undercarriage.
00:18:34
Speaker
I think it was in poor taste. I'm not saying you can't do it, because I'm not that guy. Of course it's in poor taste. That's the fucking idea. Right. But why would you be outraged when people are like, oh, that's fucking gross and not for me? Because that was the reaction from everybody fucking online. OK. Well, you and my mom are going to have equality. You and my mom are going to have different reactions to watching the Peter Jackson movie Meet the Feebles.
00:18:59
Speaker
Correct. You think it's hilarious. She would think it's disgusting. Right. But is it wrong that it exists?
00:19:10
Speaker
Once again, how is that more disgusting than you and I sitting front row at GCW and watching a man land on razor blades just getting fucking gilled and bleeding all over our feet? Right, but let's be clear about that. You and I left GCW and when we first got in the vehicle after it was over, it was silent.
00:19:32
Speaker
So this is actually a pretty apt comparison. Do I approve of seeing a guy getting gills on his back because of where he's been sliced? No. This is not me co-signing how GCW does their hardcore matches because I've been. Then how should you? You know, I'm just I don't think we're going to agree on this, Derek. I think it's fine. But what do you want to hear me say? I want to see more of that.
00:19:58
Speaker
I don't know if it's a, you know what? She's done it once. It has to be a forever spot, right? Joey Ryan says he doesn't care. Of course he doesn't. Joey Ryan's out there ruining the fucking business.
00:20:14
Speaker
I don't know, man. It grossed me the fuck out. I don't want to see it, but that was, I mean, it was meant to gross me out. That was the idea. But at the same time, it doesn't make me want to tune in, even though it was like whatever show. It doesn't make me want to go see Priscilla Kelly. Even though two weeks ago I told you that she's going to be great. I'm going to consider that false advertising. Do you think she will not be invited back to the Mae Young classic next year? Probably not.
00:20:42
Speaker
if anything that's a bold move because I don't know you know what there's a lot of companies she's gonna find work it'll be okay and also when she pulled it out it looked like a teabag to me it clearly didn't have blood on it it was you know it's a show it's a show you know
00:21:00
Speaker
Right now it's a show you got to be okay with period blood. Maybe my mom is listening She's like this is what happened after he saw Freddy got fingered. She's like I knew She's like I knew he when he watched that that man masturbate that horse This is what it was gonna turn into in the end him on a podcast going to bat for period blood Hey Priscilla Kelly, you
Personal Progress: DDP Yoga
00:21:23
Speaker
did nothing wrong. This is fine. Is that spot for everywhere? No, is it okay at a 21 and up bar show? Yes
00:21:34
Speaker
You know what? Let us know you've decided to die on. I'm dying on this hill.
00:21:39
Speaker
You know, two weeks ago I stood up for her, and if I back down now, I look weak, and I'm not. As long as you're admitting that's why you're doing it. I have no issue with it. I don't think it's ever gonna be on WWE. It shouldn't be where children see it, but I think it's okay. Let it be known, Garrett is into period blood. That's why he's into this. Maybe. Anyways, we actually have some respectable, normal things to talk about because a lot of stuff happened over the last week.
00:22:08
Speaker
The problem is that you won't let me normalize the other thing. I'm not letting you normalize it. Garrett, you had a busy freaking weekend. Dude, I am still a little exhausted from it. I mean, I hit the ground running in 2019, went to three shows in three days.
00:22:30
Speaker
Man, yeah, you're on pace to do better than last year, even though that's probably impossible. I don't think that's going to happen. I think this year I'm going to have to slow down drastically. You know, I'd love to bankrupt myself going to shows, but you'd love to. I also got to eat.
00:22:49
Speaker
Yeah. So this weekend, first show I went to Saturday night, NWA was running a pop up show with tried and true pro wrestling, which is out of Clarksville, Tennessee.
00:23:02
Speaker
And the people that were advertised for this show, the big matches were Nick Aldis and James Storm, Jazz versus Ally, and Josephus versus David Arquette. What's the idea behind this show? Like, it's called the NWA Pop-Up. Are they gonna do it other places? Have they done it other places? It's weird. Like, the way this kind of seemed to me is, because I know last show, I believe they were actually using Tried and True's ring.
00:23:28
Speaker
And I think this was their way of getting to use the ring again, but just combining their rosters. So tried and true get some of their matches, NWA gets their matches, and it's filmed as an NWA show. So I don't know if the plan going forward is to go to different territories, essentially, and set up with those territories, so you get to run a joint show with a well-known company.
00:23:52
Speaker
Right. That kind of seemed like the vibe of it and I was not expecting the turnout that this event got. Clark. Yeah, that was something you said to me. You didn't think there were going to be that many people who showed up for it and you were surprised when you got there and it was packed. Oh, I got a call on the way there that said don't even try and park at the building.
00:24:12
Speaker
We ended up parking about a half mile away and walking, and there were cars all up and down the streets. The guys I went with didn't buy tickets yet, so they didn't even know if they were gonna get in. Hey, Neil and Alex, thanks for the ride there, appreciate it. But we get there, and there ended up being about 1,200 people in this building. Which is big for a small indie show.
00:24:38
Speaker
Who would you say was the biggest name on the card if you don't include David Arquette as... I mean, it's a big name, but he's a big name, not for wrestling, but for acting, right? Yeah. I mean, obviously, I think a big reason the place was packed is, you know, it's a town about an hour outside of Nashville, and I think it was being advertised as a show with David Arquette. It feels like, you know, a big star was coming to town.
00:25:02
Speaker
Yeah. Or a Hollywood celebrity. I don't know. It's hard to say. Nick Aldis is up there? Nick Aldis, because he was on All In. He's huge now. James Storm's been a big name on the Indies forever. To me, the biggest match of the night was when I see Willie Mack and Matt Cross in the same bout. To me, those are two big indie names that I want to see. Bout. Bout.
00:25:29
Speaker
How long was the show? Because you said it was like 15 bucks to get in.
00:25:33
Speaker
Yeah, it was, general admission was only 15 bucks. I was expecting it to be in just like, you know, a gym or something. I wasn't expecting, it was kind of in almost like a little convention center or something. So it was a good setup. They actually even had big TV screens up on the wall to give you a view of, you know, what the camera would see. Which I've never seen at an indie show. I mean, even at the impact show, you're not seeing a projection of what's going on. Were you near Billy Corgan?
00:26:03
Speaker
Derek, all night long, I stood about five feet from Billy Corrigan. He was standing behind me. And I'll tell you, this show, a lot of problems. A lot of problems. Not a good one? It had good moments. But it definitely had a huge meltdown fall apart towards the end. But anytime something didn't make sense or bothered me, I would just shout, Billy, knowing he was standing behind me.
00:26:32
Speaker
do you think you you caused him to have a shitty night then i think he caused himself to have a shitty night and he if you remember after the last nwa show he apologized he basically said that didn't go the way
00:26:49
Speaker
It should have. It didn't run the way it should have. And I want to apologize. We're going to work harder to get a better quality of show. And after this was over, I was like, where's my Billy apology? I hope this is like his running thing is that he puts on a show and then immediately tweets out an apology.
00:27:06
Speaker
Vince should take note. Please, yeah, Billy knows when he fucked up. Let me just, okay, there were some good things in this. Sam Shaw that I saw for the first time on the last NWA show, he was there and we watched him complete a painting in the ring. He stood there and finished a painting, ended up having a Loser Leaves Town match with Crazy Steve.
00:27:29
Speaker
And Sam Shaw was the tried and true pro wrestling champ. And I think a lot of us are thinking he's probably headed to NXT. He ended up losing that match and there were rumors that he had been signed.
00:27:42
Speaker
We have so much to talk about in the show, and I almost said something, but I'm gonna let it go. I'm gonna, you know, we do have a lot to talk about, so I'm gonna get through some of these quickly. To me, Willie Mack versus Matt Cross, Match of the Night, those guys tore the house down. Willie Mack is the NWA national champion, and it was crazy to see how behind Willie Mack that crowd was. He's a big guy that moves like a cruiserweight. Hell of a lot of fun to watch.
00:28:10
Speaker
So, is he somebody good that they do have right now? Oh, yeah, absolutely. I mean, you've seen Willie Mack on Lucha Underground. He's an impact right now. Willie Mack's a good name on the NDs. He's somebody that if he's on the card, it's worth going to see just for him. How does it work with NWA? Like, they can go anywhere else, right? I think so. I mean, they can technically put that belt on the line anywhere they want, right? Right. Because it's just Billy Corrigan.
00:28:37
Speaker
And Aldus, is Aldus still the champ? Yeah, Aldus is still the champ there. And I am going to give Nick Aldus a goddamn spanking in this episode.
00:28:45
Speaker
Okay, let him have it. Derek, how much did I build up Nick Aldis after all-in weekend? You built him, you talked about how you left all-in feeling like you got it and that he was a big deal and you thought he was gonna be a star. He was the sexiest man I'd ever seen in my whole life, dressed really well, had that great match with Cody, had a second great match with Cody. This dude looked like he did not wanna be in Clarksville, Tennessee.
00:29:16
Speaker
One of my buddies was next to me and he's like, hey man, we gotta get out of here. This is boring as shit. And left during the main event. And as I stood there, I started thinking like, maybe I wanna leave too. At one point, the biggest high spot of the match, there were two double axe handles off the top rope. Count them too. I'm pretty sure the entire room went black and white for this match. And.
00:29:44
Speaker
And it was just such a boring fucking match that at one point Billy Corrigan came out with a microphone and announced that the match was now a no DQ, no count out match.
00:29:57
Speaker
Wow. At which point the crowd, like clearly that was his way of being like, oh, this sucks. We got to get something going here. Whole crowd starts chanting. We want tables and is finally back into it. Like, oh, we're going to see some hardcore shit. Clearly these two guys weren't having that almost immediately after that announcement. Not maybe 60 seconds later is what it felt like. Nick Aldis just rolls up James Storm and pens him and it's over. Are you shitting me? I am not shitting you. After Billy Corrigan makes that announcement, Aldis just rolls up Storm.
00:30:27
Speaker
I hate to try to cause a shit stirring incident but there has to be something because he's running the show and that was basically him telling his guys give them something entertaining and they said nah bro not here. That's not what we were signed on for. I wasn't supposed to get hit with a chair tonight. You can go fuck yourself. Nope. So that's not good. So that was that was boring as hell.
00:30:50
Speaker
but it did not have a good lead in. So in all fairness to them, they were following an absolute shit show that was David Arquette versus Josephus.
00:31:07
Speaker
So the Nick Gage match he had, I actually enjoyed. Because it was such a sideshow. But my buddy Neil that I was with, he put it right. He said, David Arquette almost needs to be a hardcore wrestler because the use of weapons hides how green he is. How old is he? He has to be late 40s.
00:31:27
Speaker
It's a weird time to like, you can get away with starting pro wrestling, maybe in your late thirties, but late forties for somebody who has no real athletic background. Yeah.
00:31:40
Speaker
That's basically what he can do is go out there and cause a sideshow by getting the shit beaten out of him. And just so you know, before this match, they sold out of the meet and greets for David Arquette. It was 30 bucks to get a picture with the guy. And then at intermission, they're like, surprise, he's coming back out. Anyone that wants to go get in line, pay your 30 bucks, get your picture.
00:32:02
Speaker
And so the crowd was pumped. A lot of people were there for David Arquette. Very excited. Hair versus hair match. The week of this match, they announced that it was the... that they... that he could have a tag team partner.
00:32:14
Speaker
And he had, yeah. So Josephus comes out with his spiritual advisor, which is a bald lady, and he comes out and he's like, I didn't find a tag team partner. And then it's like, surprise, I found a tag team partner. It's old Tim Storm, old NWA champ Tim Storm. So now these two are at the ring and Josephus does not have a partner. So this just became a handicap match out of fucking nowhere.
00:32:43
Speaker
to cover up how bad David Arquette sucks. I guess, but why does this fall on the other guy? Like why does he have to get his head shaved now because out of nowhere it's a handicap match. I don't know where that happened. It was bad. Like any time David Arquette was trying to do a move, it would just look so clunky. He's not ready to be in front of that many people yet.
00:33:06
Speaker
Yeah, and the funny thing is he could he's got the ability he could take a year off and go train and like behind closed doors He is old Derek. He does not have this kind of time. So this is his year So he can't take a year to train he's got to do it now he wins gets the pen gets to shave this guy's head and Billy Corgan comes out to give him the tremors and
00:33:31
Speaker
So I think already everybody's like, this is fucking crazy. Billy Corrigan from the Smashing Pumpkins, former NWA champ, Tim Storm, David Arquette are in this, and Billy Corrigan having to act like he is very amused by a head shaving is fucking hilarious. He literally had his hat off and was slapping his knee like just a crazy grandpa, like it was the funniest shit he had ever seen.
00:33:57
Speaker
And I was like, Billy, I know you don't think this is funny. You stood behind me and we both looked mortified by this. At one point I looked back and Sam Shaw was standing behind the curtain, mouth agape, watching this match.
00:34:13
Speaker
So basically the NWA pop-up show in Clarksville, Tennessee was a shit show. The final two matches were so bad to me that that's what I'm gonna remember. But I want credit to go where it deserves. You know, honestly, everything before that was fine. Like, even some of it was good. Like, Willie Mack, Matt Cross was awesome. Sam Shaw, Crazy Steve was awesome. Jazz versus Ally was good. It just...
00:34:38
Speaker
Those last, the problem is it ended on just such a low note that it's going to be hard not to remember it for those. That's a bummer. But the next night, man, things would say that was only night one. What happened on night two, night two? What's the setup? What's going on in Nashville?
Impact Wrestling Homecoming Pay-Per-View Review
00:34:55
Speaker
Impact Wrestling came home. They went back to the asylum where impact started and they had their new pay-per-view homecoming, which to me was a fucking banger.
00:35:07
Speaker
Garrett, were they plugging the Pursuit Network? They weren't plugging the Pursuit Network at this pay-per-view. I didn't hear them say it ever. And what's funny is online when I was posting a picture of something and said the Pioneer Network, somebody corrected me and I said, see, I don't know where to watch this.
00:35:29
Speaker
I think I did the same thing at work. I was trying to tell the story because the news had just broken and I was trying to tell one of my coworkers. I was like, I think they're on like the outdoor channel or something. It's just a hunting network. It's weird. But this show was awesome. It opened with the, they brought back the ultimate X match.
00:35:49
Speaker
Jake Christ, Ethan Page, Rich Swann, Trey Miguel. Though this match, I don't know that there were some problems. First off, middle of the match, all the dudes are fighting outside. Everyone looks up and realizes the belt is now just dangling from the rope.
00:36:06
Speaker
like barely hanging on. Oh, it's come unsnapped. It is just basically waiting to fall off. So they got word to the wrestlers, stay on the outside of the ring. These guys are fighting over here. They get a ladder back in and have guys climb the ladder and re-snap it while the match is still going on. To make sure it didn't fall. But then, during the end, it's, you know, it's an X across the top with rope, so they're kind of shimmying. Right. I have this on video.
00:36:35
Speaker
Rich Swann and Trey Miguel are both approaching it. Rich Swann reaches his hand out and touches the belt. All he does is his palm touches it. The belt falls straight down, but he catches it with his knees and he won. They had to ring the bell. I can't tell you whether or not Rich Swann was supposed to be the champion, but all he had to do was poke the belt and he was the winner.
00:37:02
Speaker
If only it was that easy every other time. But just to tell you how good this show was, my wife came with me. And you know, if Leah's in the house, you're gonna see some shit. Because she won't just go to anything. Why was she, like, what convinced her to go to this show as opposed to another one?
00:37:17
Speaker
I just, I told her like, well, first off, I was like, you know, some of these wrestlers, you recognize some of these guys from PWG, Brian Cage, Johnny Impact, Sammy Callahan, Rich Swan. Like these are a lot of guys, you know, Pentagon and Ray Phoenix. A lot of guys she had seen that she knew put on cool shit in LA. Yeah. Like people that she had seen put on cool matches. So I was like, you know, they've been putting on good shows. This is going to be good.
00:37:42
Speaker
I get there, Derek, and I go to the bathroom. I'm in line for the bathroom, and a man taps me on the shoulder and says, sorry man, excuse me. Cuts the line to use the bathroom. It's fucking moose. Giant-ass moose is now in the bathroom with all these marks, and he is wearing a pink shirt, no pants. And when you're not in- Is he in his tights? He's just in the wrestling tights.
00:38:06
Speaker
That's awesome. And there's something shocking about a man that big not wearing pants in the bathroom. It's scary. Just pushing past a bunch of marks to... Did everyone in the room look at each other? Like, can you believe this is fucking happening? I hope there was one guy that was like, that's bullshit that he's cutting, not thinking this is a wrestler, considering he's a giant man with no pants on. Right.
00:38:31
Speaker
Let's what was the other but other than that how was the bathroom situation since that's a staple of the show Oh, it's a nightmare Derek. There was one stall two yearnals and this place was packed I'm so sorry. It's okay. I got through it fine. There's some really good matches at this though moose and Eddie Edwards had a falls count anywhere match and they Murdered each other in front of us
00:38:55
Speaker
Yeah, I saw a spot where, was it a guardrail on the outside? They brought the steel steps over and set the guardrail across the ring on the steel steps, directly in front of our seats. So you got to watch Moose get destroyed? I got to see him get thrown through that. We got to see Moose take multiples. That's what he gets for cutting. Yeah, he should have. Actually, I yelled that. I yelled that though after the third time he got a chair shot to the head.
00:39:25
Speaker
You just wanted to let him know he was receiving this abuse because he broke the code. So that was a fun one. There was another hardcore match, Eli Drake versus Abyss. And once again, it ended in thumbtacks, and my wife had never gotten to see a thumbtack spot live. Oh shit. And I snapped a picture of her face after it happened. And her response to that happening to Eli Drake was, he's too hot to have to do this. Why is he doing this?
00:39:56
Speaker
Go model, go do something with your looks. You don't have to deform your body. Okay, but the match that had everybody talking. Is it the one you had me watch? I had you watch this one. It was LAX, who are the Impact Tag Champs, versus the Lucha Bros, which is Pentagon and Ray Phoenix. Right. Okay, I just want to hear, without saying anything, I want to hear your thoughts on it before I tell mine. So, watch this match earlier this afternoon.
00:40:23
Speaker
I liked it. I thought it was a lot of fun. There was a lot of high flying spots. There was a lot of using your tag partner like as a weapon and like throwing them into the other guy. My favorite spot in the match. There's a point where LAX is on the outside.
00:40:38
Speaker
And Pentagon is on the outside with him, and Phoenix is in the ring, and he does like a dive through the middle ropes, and Pentagon kind of grabs him midair and whips him into them. Like, he didn't need to do it. Phoenix was already going to crash into them, but he gave him like the extra oomph, and he did the same thing. Yeah, like he did that flip and then just like overhead. Yeah. Yeah.
00:41:06
Speaker
I don't know what point you were gonna make with this match or a question you had for me. I enjoyed it. It was a high-flying spot match, right? Yeah, and a lot of people are saying that this match told the show that it was the best match of the night, that it could be a match of the year contender. But I guess I have seen so many Pentagon Phoenix matches that this is kind of like business as usual for those guys. I think it's a testament to how good they are.
00:41:35
Speaker
Well, without a doubt. I mean, they're both excellent. It wasn't even like it was a long match either. It was under 15 minutes. Yeah, it was a pretty quick one. LAX were awesome. This was my first time getting to see them. So I was very excited about that. Don't get me wrong. This was an excellent match.
00:41:52
Speaker
I think it's hard at a certain point to define what the best match Pentagon and Phoenix have is. Are you just numb to this stuff because you watch it so much? Yeah, I do feel like a little bit of an asshole because these are two guys I've seen live a lot of times and this is just like the quality of match they always put on.
00:42:16
Speaker
Yeah, no, I thought it was a great match. Again, it's early in 2019. I don't know if it's going to be a match of the year contender or anything like that. I don't know if it was that epic, but I definitely think there was a lot of fun spots in this one. Yeah, I think it was completely fun. I just think those guys earn their money and that this is the type of match you're going to get with Phoenix and Pentagon. It also makes me happy. First of all, LAX ends up winning.
00:42:46
Speaker
But it always makes me happy when I get to see my boy Kona in Come Out.
00:42:49
Speaker
Oh yeah, it's always a delight to see that guy. Have you seen him live before? I've never seen him wrestle, but I've seen him at shows. Like I've seen him be there. Okay. Okay, fair enough. Okay, but how I wanna end this one, this is what, this show was so good. Like every match was great. There's some we didn't even talk about, but everything is worth watching. It's a front to back good show. But the main event, Johnny Impact versus Brian Cage,
00:43:16
Speaker
like the opening match ended on a botch. They're trying to do like they're standing on the ropes and Cage is trying to suplex Johnny Impact in and they both just slip. They both just fell into the ring and Impact gets on top of Cage and pins him. Was that mean somebody was hurt and they just couldn't finish or come up with another finish?
00:43:38
Speaker
I think that that was supposed to, I don't know what was supposed to happen, because the next night at the TV tape-in, Cage even referenced it and said, you beat me on a slipped on a banana peel finish. And you know it's bullshit.
00:43:55
Speaker
I don't know how to feel about acknowledging the botch, but I guess it's cool. I think they did need to acknowledge it because it was such a weird way for such a good show to end. My question is they didn't have that didn't have to be the finish. They couldn't come up with something else in like 30 seconds.
00:44:10
Speaker
exactly I didn't understand that either why they wouldn't do just a couple more spots and just like maybe hit a finisher or something right but you always have that as an option or maybe they were supposed to fuck up because somebody backstage was like I've got a really good line about slipping on a banana peel
00:44:26
Speaker
I mean, maybe it could have been a similar situation to all in. Maybe they had their, since it was the end of the show, they had their allotted time and they didn't have the 30 seconds to spare. I don't know. I don't know. I just know that if there's, you can work around that in theory.
00:44:42
Speaker
But to finish off my weekend, last show was actually Monday night. I went to Impact's TV Tapings, which is their first set of TV tapings for the Pursuit Network. Garrett, you skipped Monday Night Raw to go to this shit. Are you kidding me? I did, Derek. I did. And to tell you how, because that show, I don't know if
00:45:03
Speaker
if Homecoming was sold out, but it was very, very full. There were no empty seats around me. It was a packed house. This taping, just so you know how it was selling, I bought my ticket on Friday. Two hours after I bought my ticket, there was a special of buy one, get three free. What the fuck? Yeah. So I was pissed? I mean, it was a $20 ticket and I got my entertainment out of it, but obviously I would have rather had four tickets.
00:45:33
Speaker
But then at the NWA show, for people who had gotten the VIP meet and greets, they were being given free tickets to Monday Night Show.
00:45:43
Speaker
So I think they knew it wasn't selling, and when we got there, it's crazy, because they had seats everywhere, bleachers set up and everything for the pay-per-view, the TV taping, literally two rows of seats on each side, other than the entrance side. Really? They covered one set of bleachers with a tarp. The top set of bleachers, I think they probably just tried to frame out a shot so you couldn't see, and then just had one row of bleachers where the hard cam was facing.
00:46:10
Speaker
How can you explain? Is that just a bad night to do a show? Is it a Monday night in Nashville? I don't know. Is it that everybody spent more money to go to the pay-per-view and they'd rather go to that than spend a little more, a little extra the next day and go to this one? I don't know what happened. Maybe their best bet would have been to parrot with the show the night before, so you gotta ticket automatically. Well, they actually had a package deal that you could get tickets to both shows for 40 bucks.
00:46:38
Speaker
Either way, the point is the attendance was pretty light. Yeah, and thank you to my buddy Stephen McCash, voice of Southern Underground Pro. I was sick with a migraine on Monday. Couldn't get there super early. Got to walk in, get in line with him. He waited, and I got in towards the front of the line. Awesome. Good on you. So I want to thank him. Thank you, Stephen. Thank you. Appreciate that, buddy.
00:47:02
Speaker
But yeah, we ended up second row for this. It was a lot of the same people from the night before. Not a lot of surprises, though at the pay-per-view, Rosemary came back from the dead, so it was cool to see her again. There were a few problems, though,
Unexpected Dark Match During Power Outage
00:47:15
Speaker
with this. At one point during the show, Eli Drake was coming out to cut a promo. The entire power grid goes down for the show.
00:47:23
Speaker
I saw something about this. What the hell happened? How long did it last? It was probably only down for maybe... It's hard to say. Maybe 20 minutes? Because they gave us a literal dark match. The only lights that worked were the fluorescent lights on the ceiling of the venue. Huh. So they popped those on and we watched a dark match for like 20 minutes. But it was funny because they had to have Tommy Dreamer come out and tell all of us that it was broken.
00:47:48
Speaker
Tommy had to explain to everybody what was wrong. I didn't even know the guy worked for Impact. So him coming out was a nice surprise. I knew he was over there. Also saw Jimmy Jacobs backstage, like behind the curtain. Nice. I didn't know. My question, does he work? So you said this was the debut of them on the Pursuit Network? Yeah, this will start airing this Friday.
00:48:12
Speaker
Wow. But this is good news for fans of Impact, though, because there should be fans of Impact. It's a good program. They got a lot of good people over there, too. They are going to be live streaming all of their episodes on Twitch, which you can watch for free.
00:48:29
Speaker
So while they're happening, you can watch them live? Correct. Or just on Fridays? And as far as I know, with Twitch, those videos saved, so you should be able to go on Twitch and watch those episodes. But wait, you can watch them live when they're happening? Correct. Or when they air? As it's airing, you'll be able to watch it. Okay. So not while it's being taped. Gotcha. Yeah. I'm trying to think, oh, the opening match of this show, episode one, is going to be hot. I absolutely love the rascals.
00:48:59
Speaker
I saw them for the first time at Bola. I wasn't super familiar with them until then. Honestly, I could see the Rascals be in the next Young Bucks. They've got a very similar vibe. That's a lot of praise. I think that is huge praise, but I think they also deserve it. They're really funny. They're high flyers. They seem like they could put on a good match with anybody. And their opening match of the night was actually the match I saw them in in LA, which was the Lucha Bros versus the Rascals.
00:49:27
Speaker
It was awesome. It was a hot match. Weird thing though. So a lady you're a fan of, Scarlett Bordeaux. Okay. She came out and they were talking about how, you know, now that we're on the pursuit network, we can have a little more attitude. And she thought she had on too many clothes. And then immediately I'm like, Oh my God, this feels like an attitude era sketch and not a good way.
00:49:53
Speaker
And who did she have this segment with? I didn't know the crew that came out and told her like, don't take your clothes off, but then big Papa Pump's music hits, big Papa Pump comes to the ring and cuts a promo about basically what the Pursuit Network is. Nobody better to describe the Pursuit Network than the big bad booty daddy.
00:50:14
Speaker
Oh yeah, because he's like, I'm a hunter. I watch this network. This is a good network. This is a fucking weird thing. And then does he still own that Shoney's by the way? I think he does. And I believe it is in Tennessee. Next time, if you make it down here, you and I need to make a trek to go eat a big Papa pump Shoney's and we can review it as we did Jerry the King Lawler's restaurant.
00:50:34
Speaker
Is Mr. Steiner in today? Is Scott here? And then he comes out with his headgear on? Oh, with the chainmail? I look back and see Rick flipping burgers in the back. He's pissed. Nobody wants his autograph again. Rick, what did you think of the Priscilla Kelly's... I don't give a shit!
00:50:54
Speaker
So Big Papa Pump chases those dudes off. He sits down in a chair. Scarlet Bordeaux proceeds to take off her clothes and be in lingerie and kinda dance around the ring for a while. I don't think that's the direction Impact should head in. Well, good for Scott.
00:51:13
Speaker
He probably had a good night. Oh, I was surprised to see him. To me, that was the biggest surprise of the night. I ended up leaving during the main event on that one just because the show was running a little long because of the breakdown they had. Overall, fun show, pretty low attendance. People started to leave. So they came around and were passing out impact calendars that were for sale at the booth. I think trying to be like, this is fun, right? You'll stay? So I got one on my wall right now.
00:51:41
Speaker
so you had a fun three days of live pro wrestling yeah it was overall a really good time you said you're still exhausted oh i'm still beat from it but just keep in mind this was all on saturday through monday think about what the fuck we had going on on friday man this feels like a million years ago yeah we do we have a lot we still have a couple other things to talk about in this episode keep in mind
00:52:05
Speaker
That was my cheat day, Derek. Rest of the kingdom was my cheat day. I got to load up on all the garbage, eat it all night long, not sleep, and then go to work. Late night. And my question, how many weeks are you into DDP yoga at this point?
00:52:22
Speaker
Well, I guess I can check the app, it tells me. What are you, like five weeks in? Yeah, something like that. You started with the beginning of December. I'm like over a month and a half in, right? Nice. Something like that. I believe how I described it to you is I'm flexible in ways that I never expected. If I had a bigger penis, I could kiss it right now. That's how flexible I am.
00:52:47
Speaker
So you've been committed, you've been doing the work and Wrestle Kingdom, which like we said, it feels like it was like two weeks ago because so much stuff happened this week.
Wrestle Kingdom 13 Highlights
00:52:56
Speaker
But. Wrestle Kingdom was a hell of a show. I don't know if it was as good as last year's. But I thought it was a damn good show. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this year because I feel like this year was one of the most viewed years they've had. I feel like a lot of new eyes are on them now.
00:53:15
Speaker
It was a good night for LIJ. Oh, it was a great night for LIJ. What, every single member of LIJ has a title now? Yeah, do they win both sets of tag titles?
00:53:25
Speaker
Yeah. Which is crazy because I just saw Shingo Takagi in LA at Bola in the main event. And before that weekend was not familiar with the guy. What did you think of that Will Ospreay and Abushi match? See, that's the match that I'm seeing some controversy around, where a lot of people that have not watched New Japan a lot, I think hated that match because it was too dangerous.
00:53:50
Speaker
Because it was too stiff? I think, but that's kind of one of the things you're getting at in New Japan. I think people think that Will Ospreay fucked up. Well, obviously he did. He knocked Kodo Bushi out. Like legit knocked him out? Yeah, he ended up on a stretcher. Like that was a shoot. Okay. I heard that I didn't know if that was a work or what, because I knew they were referencing it earlier in the night. Yeah, he shoot later in the night. Yeah, he ended up leaving on that stretcher with a concussion.
00:54:18
Speaker
That fucking sucks. That last elbow to the head, I mean, it just looked like a death blow. Yeah. But this match to me was my favorite of the night because it had the coolest story. I mean, Kota Bushe was Will Ospreay's hero. He was getting to wrestle his hero. And that was so cool. And there was that moment where they're kind of in the Spider-Man kiss position, the upside down, where Kota's tangled up in the ropes, upside down. Will Ospreay is sitting cross-legged in front of him, and they're just having a face slap off.
00:54:49
Speaker
This was, fuck, this was a good match. This was definitely when I was going through the card, I stopped to check out. I mean, I think both of those guys are guys that if you saw them in a match, you would stop to see what they're doing in that one. And when you put those two together, such a similar hard-hitting, fast-paced style, you knew it was gonna be exciting. I mean, this match, I'm seeing it lasted about 18 minutes, and it felt like it never let up.
00:55:19
Speaker
What did you think about Jericho and Naito? I loved it. I think that was, I mean, my top three of the night were Osprey, Ibushi, Jericho, Naito, and Omega Tanahashi. Yeah. Yeah, no, I thought, I don't know, this was maybe Jericho, I don't know, I guess his match with Omega was pretty awesome, but this was up there, man. Jericho dominated a good chunk of this match. And what did it take? Two Destinos? Yeah.
00:55:48
Speaker
And do you think that, I don't know, I agree with you. This might have been the best of the Jericho New Japan run. And if he knew this was gonna be his last New Japan match, it seemed like he was willing to take it out on a bang. Yeah. This was the match I was looking forward to watching the most. And definitely delivered. Jericho was brutal. The stuff with the chairs was funny. Jericho, again, Jericho yelling is hilarious. And he yells a ton during this match.
00:56:15
Speaker
Oh, I'll never get tired of him yelling at the refs. Or not the refs, but the announcers. Just you're like, Kelly! Oh, the spot where he DDTs Nido on the table, on the outside. I have a question. I've been watching pro wrestling for a long time. How do they do the thing where they get DDT'd and then they stay balanced on their head for an extra two or three seconds before they fall? Probably DDP yoga and a lot of talent.
00:56:45
Speaker
But he has that awesome spot where he gets DDT'd on the table, he stands up for me, and I was thinking to myself, I've seen this happen a million times, how come I've never questioned how the physics of this work? It's super impressive. It's funny that you're questioning the physics of this, but not the physics of Transporter 2 that you and I have watched many times. Transporter 2's fictional, Garrett, this is real.
00:57:11
Speaker
Don't spoil it for me. Transporter 2 is predetermined. It is not fictional. Did you? I'm sure by now, like we said, this is old fucking news. Kenny's not the champ anymore. And he lost it in a hell of a match. I wasn't as impressed by the matches I thought I was going to be. I had built it up in my head.
00:57:36
Speaker
What do you I mean? Did it just leave? It was a little lacking for you or? Yeah, like is is Ta-Nehisi like the John Cena of New Japan? Absolutely. Yeah.
00:57:47
Speaker
Yeah. So what, like, what, what's exciting about him being champion again? I mean, not, not digging on Tana Hashi. I'm not overly familiar with the new Japan product even after watching it for a year, but I think Tana Hashi is still very well respected there. And there was a lot of time, I feel like in the last couple of years where people are thinking this guy's broken. It's probably getting close to time for this guy to slow down and stop. And I think this was Tana Hashi showing everyone. I still have gas in the tank.
00:58:17
Speaker
Okay, so where do you think people were just
00:58:23
Speaker
I mean, I guess a lot of this ties into, I mean, like you said, you enjoyed the match. I enjoyed it. I just don't think it was as good as I was expecting it to be. But how much of all this ties into Kenny Omega's future with New Japan? I think all of it. I think we were all sitting around waiting and thinking if he dropped, if he doesn't drop this belt, he'll either drop it tomorrow at New Year's Dash or or he's staying and seeing him drop it kind of confirmed to all of us. Oh, shit, he's out of here. Right.
00:58:52
Speaker
But it's not confirmed that he's not going to have a working relationship with them, right? Like there's still a possibility he can do stuff there. So I guess there had been, from what I'm reading at least, like keep in mind all dirt sheet shit so you don't know. New Japan and Ring of Honor have the working relationship and it seems like AEW wanted to get in there too. And it seemed like their concern was I don't think three companies can work together.
00:59:17
Speaker
Like, it's just too many. So it goes back to what I was saying last week about they may not necessarily have the open relationship that we were expecting. Yeah, that's kind of what it seemed like. But now what I'm hearing is that New Japan's like, Kenny, stay. We'll work with anyone. Who do you want us to work? Once again, it's the MacGruber. It's like, whose dick do you want me to suck? But does that leave the possibility?
00:59:48
Speaker
Do you have anything else you want to say about Kenny and Tanahashi? I will say this. My wife said the sexiest thing I've ever heard in my entire life to me. Okay, what's that? I was on the phone with her and she said, hey, when we get home, can we watch that Tanahashi Kenny match?
01:00:06
Speaker
Damn. Yeah, I know. That's love, Derek. Good on you. That was, I'm still thinking about that. Might go have my way with myself in the shower and think about that sentence. Well, if you keep doing DDP yoga, you can do a little bit more.
01:00:30
Speaker
What's Dally gonna do when I send him a video? I'm like, Dally, look what I can do because of you. He's gonna make another inspirational video that goes viral online about you being able to blow yourself. It's that paratrooper that lost all the weight and was able to walk again, and then me like, look guys, I lost like 15 pounds, but this is cool. I can't have cookies, but look what I can have instead.
01:00:54
Speaker
It's all protein baby and it's coming from me. That's gross. Yeah. Hey, and obviously me making that joke, you can see why I'm the one that's like Priscilla Kelly. Yep. Nothing wrong there. Yep. But so the other big thing that happened that we have to talk about.
AEW Double or Nothing Press Conference
01:01:12
Speaker
The AEW Double or Nothing press conference was yesterday. And kind of a big deal, wouldn't you say? Derek, it started the second I got off work. I brought it up on Brandi Rhodes' Instagram account and had it playing in my car my entire drive home until I could have it on TV. But no joke, start to finish. I'm pointing at my arm right now. Goosebumps.
01:01:38
Speaker
Yeah, I thought that for whatever reason, I don't know what time I thought it was. I was planning on watching it, but I was out looking for something to get for dinner. And you started hitting me with all this news. And I was like, are you getting leaks? Like, how do you know all this stuff? And then I realized, oh, shit, no, the press conference is going on now. As I started texting you names, though, because I was just sending you names with exclamation points.
01:02:01
Speaker
Were you surprised at the people that were walking out onto the stage? So basically some of the best things about All In are now just in a regular promotion. You've got FCU. They went out and got our guy. They went out and got MJF. MJF ain't going to NXT. He's with AEW. They got Joey Janela and Penelope Ford. Which was a huge surprise because one, it was announced that those two had broken up.
01:02:29
Speaker
Was that at work? I'm wondering if we're getting worked or, cause also we know she dropped off of the shine show I was going to, to be, to go to an NXT tryout. Right. And I'm guessing, I mean, I guess she obviously took the tryout, but didn't take the job. Fair enough. Or maybe she wasn't offered. I don't know.
01:02:50
Speaker
Or the possibility that maybe they did break up, but they're doing an on screen character thing. Like, you know, that they're going to appear together on screen. So they're a good duo.
01:03:02
Speaker
What else? I mean, I didn't know that SCU as a group, all of their contracts were up. I just thought it was Christopher Daniels. See, I thought that the rest of SCU signed an ROH deal. I had no idea they were coming over until, I mean. That's what I thought too. When they were announced as part of the press conference and listed in the thing, I was like, oh shit, I didn't know that. But yeah, Janella was a huge surprise to me. MJF, I was not expecting to walk out on that stage.
01:03:29
Speaker
and the final person to walk on that stage, when I sent you that text, all I got back from you was, holy dick. That's a big fucking deal, especially after all the denials about him being like, Jericho's the best. Jericho is the fucking best. He has no problem just lying to you. If you ask him if he's involved with something, he'll be like, no, what are you talking about? That's stupid, why would I do that?
01:03:57
Speaker
And then he's there, and Jericho's the big reveal. I mean, he brings an extra level of legitimacy because he's a legend. Did you see that WWE immediately moved him to the alumni section? Oh, see, I thought he was in a legend section or something and got removed. They still technically had him as part of the roster. Oh, so they moved him to alumni. Yeah, immediately.
01:04:26
Speaker
Oh man. God, did you watch a lot of it? Did you go back and watch some of it? I watched the whole press conference. Okay. My one complaint was that I wish they had mic'd the crowd. Yeah, it looked like there were a lot of people there and I'm sure those people were excited.
01:04:42
Speaker
Yeah like I wanted to feel the crowd's excitement but they didn't have the crowd mic'd so you saw people on stage reacting and giving time to things that I could not hear. Well I was worried that they were going to start AEW by burning their entire roster to death.
01:04:58
Speaker
Cause that pyro was pretty damn close. That was a small stage and there was a lot of flames and shit. Like even MJF at one point had to step back while it was all happening. How'd you feel about him sticking his gum to Conrad's forehead? And calling him turkey tits?
01:05:15
Speaker
They got a good one. That was a good get for them. That was good. Jericho was a good get. Both Britt Baker. Don't forget about Britt Baker. God, between Brandy Britt Baker and Penelope. Penelope Ford. That is a good start to a women's division. Absolutely.
01:05:30
Speaker
hearing them say they're gonna give equal pay to the women, which caused a lot of confusion online for some reason where they're like, wait, so they're gonna get paid? No, not everybody's getting paid the exact same, but they're saying the base starting is the same for everybody. Right, right, depending upon your place on the card then. But I think Cody hit on some things in his speech that really resonated with you and I.
01:05:54
Speaker
Yeah, he said something about, you know, opportunity is great, but opportunity doesn't pay the bills. Anyone who knows Vince knows his go-to line his entire time running the WWF, WWE is that I'm going to give you opportunity. So for Cody to comment on that directly and be like, yeah, opportunity is great, but money is what pays the bills. You're going to get equal pay. The other thing is they're going to have health insurance.
01:06:20
Speaker
That's huge. Yeah, they basically kind of have like a union, right? Wouldn't you say? It seems like that's what Cody was trying to set up at least. What was the other thing I commented on? Oh, they weren't going to, they're not going to tell the fans who they have to cheer and who they have to boo. They're not going to coach you on how to be a fan at AEW.
01:06:42
Speaker
Also, Cody also said here in AEW wins and losses absolutely matter. Thank you. They don't always have to matter. Yes, there are matches that the end whoever wins. It's not the end all be all but.
01:07:02
Speaker
Treating talent like you can't just go on a seven month terror where you have a guy jobbed out and act like, oh, that's not a big deal because wins and losses don't matter. All of these were direct jabs at WWE and it was fucking awesome for him to comment on some of the things that people have been yelling about for years.
01:07:20
Speaker
And did you hear what happened afterwards when a lot of the people were going to SmackDown? I heard about the shirt that I don't know how much of it's true and how much of it's not. So I saw a lot of different Twitter posts that where people were posting photos from the venue. Like in posting from inside the venue with their shirts turned inside out.
01:07:39
Speaker
Yeah. Like one of the things I was reading said that a security guard said this is direct orders from Vince McMahon. And then but then I heard other people just went around to other gates and were able to get in. I don't like. Yeah. I mean, it's hard. I don't know. It's a better story if it's true.
01:07:55
Speaker
If you didn't see the press conference, there's probably only a limited window where that's still going to be exciting. It's still exciting. So if you haven't already, go check out the AEW press conference. They announced actually that Double or Nothing is actually going to be the third show and that they're going to do another show in Jacksonville, Florida, though. Did they announce when that is? They didn't announce when that is, but I remember because at one point Meltzer said something about All In 2 being in April.
01:08:20
Speaker
Until it was announced May 25th I'm wondering if April is when the second show will be which they said that a large portion of the proceeds Or the large portion of the money made is gonna go to victims of gun violence Right so already awesome starting off on a great PR move Absolutely. It's just a great start. They already have a hell of a roster assemble. Do you think? That Kenny is gonna wind up there
01:08:46
Speaker
After seeing that Jericho's there, that gives me more faith that Kenny's gonna go with him. But once again, the money that we're hearing that Kenny's getting offered to be in WWE, I don't know if I could fault anyone for turning that money down.
01:09:02
Speaker
Right. Right. I guess we'll see what happens. But it's an excite. It's a game changer. Yesterday was kind of a historic day by itself just for a press conference. So a lot of things to look forward to. They're running MGM, MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. That's really cool.
01:09:21
Speaker
That's pretty historic. And I'm just sitting here waiting for those tickets to go on sale. I'm waiting for Starcast to go up. And also, real quick, just going back for a second, one thing they announced during Wrestle Kingdom that at 2 or 3 in the morning got me to pop so hard on the couch that I yelled. They're coming to Nashville. They're coming to Nashville!
01:09:43
Speaker
hearing them on Wrestle Kingdom say Nashville, Tennessee made me very excited. What was your reaction when you heard SCU reference like we could be in some trash town like Nashville? They specifically referenced where you live. I was walking to my car holding my phone in my hand watching it and that made me laugh very hard. I was like, that's where I am. Don't disagree. That's funny. Anyways,

What were your favorite moments of the last year? I think we've already said it a million times. Honestly, just starting the show. If I had to go back and listen to maybe our first 20 episodes, I bet I would be mortified. Don't you cringe? Oh, I would cringe hard. I don't want to hear those. I think we're probably being very positive and probably trying to be real straight and narrow.
01:11:50

I don't know if anyone enjoys talking about Otis and Jizz as much as I do. I feel like that's not for the audience as much as it is for me. I think it's the same thing with Priscilla Kelly's period blood. I'm fine with it. I'm fine with it.
