Speaker: Yeah, I think we texted about nothing hockey related for a long time, and then Vienna was like, oh my god, for the next episode should we just do this?

Speaker: Yeah, do you want to share what we were texting about?
Speaker: Because we've had a great time not being online and talking and thinking about the Ottawa Senators.
Speaker: The thing we were texting about was actually going to a Live Your Rodrigo concert.
Speaker: So, jealous and cuckold wrong.
Speaker: Yeah, I was gonna say, as I call it, Chapel Rhone concert featuring Olivia Rodrigo.
Speaker: In case you couldn't tell from my social media presence, I have been deep in the Chapel Rhone brain rot since about January.
Speaker: I don't know what happens.
Speaker: I listened to Rise and Fall of the Midwest Princess when it first came out and was like, eh, I like Red Wine Supernova and that's it.
Speaker: And then sometime around January...
Speaker: It just clicked, I don't know.
Speaker: So that's all that's been going on in my brain.
Speaker: Just like hot to go on repeat and doing a little dance.
Speaker: That's my brain all the time.
Speaker: I have not been thinking about the Ottawa Senators.
Speaker: One day in, I think February, I was at work and I typically just listen to music or a podcast at work or something because it helps me focus more and whatever.
Speaker: And I listened to casual for all eight hours I was at work.
Speaker: And I don't know how many plays that comes out to, but I like, no stops.
Speaker: I did, I listened the entire time and I've only done that two other times.
Speaker: And that was with Olivia Rodrigo songs.
Speaker: When Vampire came out, I listened to it a full eight hours.
Speaker: And when Bad Idea Right came out, I listened to it for like a full eight hours.
Speaker: I did that with the whole album with Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess for several weeks straight.
Speaker: I think I also did that with Naked in Manhattan.
Speaker: That's my favorite.
Speaker: For some reason, the line, constant cicadas in the summertime, just really scratches an itch in my brain.
Speaker: I love that line.
Speaker: Okay, for me, like, the line of, like, a Chapel Rhone song that, like, just scratches my brain is in My King is Karma, when she's like, I heard from Katie, you're losing it lately, move back with your parents and date girls who look 18.
Speaker: When that, like, when she was saying that, I was like, oh my god, like, this is the best line I've ever heard.
Speaker: Oh, when I saw her live, a line that I really appreciated live was in Pink Pony Club, which I was a fan of Pink Pony Club back when it came out in 2020.
Speaker: So it's kind of like I didn't even make the connection until I listened to the full album a little bit more recently.
Speaker: But the one where she's like, I can still hear your southern drawl a thousand miles away or something.
Speaker: It was a good line.
Speaker: And she's talking about her mom.
Speaker: Yeah, it's great.
Speaker: Do you think any Sens would be able to do the Hot To Go dance?
Speaker: A lot of people in the crowd struggled with it.

Speaker: I think that they, I think they would be able to, I think everyone would be able to physically do it, but I wonder who would actually capture the energy.

Speaker: And my outfit actually did not arrive on time, so I had to wear just a purple dress, which is my backup outfit.
Speaker: It was a little, not quite the vibe, but it was purple, so whatever.
Speaker: I was overdressed, you know?
Speaker: It was just a very cute vintage purple dress.
Speaker: Anyways, so I felt like I was standing out on this metro because I was clearly dressed for Olivia but also clearly not fitting the vibe at all.
Speaker: But also, there was a family with a child who was maybe five and another one who could not have been older than three or four.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So, and so yeah, I was texting Erickson's burner like, oh God, and these people are here on time to see Chapel Rhone.
Speaker: Interesting.
Speaker: Yeah, interesting.
Speaker: For anyone who doesn't know, which you should know, Cableron has some kind of explicit lyrics.
Speaker: So it's like, it's just crazy the amount of people I saw, which like, it's like, whatever, you know, we talked about this, like a lot of times, like kids will listen to stuff and just like not know what it means.
Speaker: So it's like not that big a deal.
Speaker: But I was like, oh my god, like these children are five and they don't know like what they're like, pulling out their iPhone cameras.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: iPhone flashlights for.
Speaker: We were discussing how at both of our shows, because unfortunately we did not go to the same show, during the song My Kink is Karma, at the beginning of the song people pulled out their phone flashlights and as the song continued we saw them kind of slowly go out.
Speaker: It's like it's quite slow, but like... And she does that a lot with her music.
Speaker: I wish she'd played Guilty Pleasure, that's one of my favorites.
Speaker: Because I feel like it would have been a similar thing, where like it starts out slow, but then it gets crazy.
Speaker: I also, yeah, I also love the chorus to that one.
Speaker: I want this like a cigarette.
Speaker: It's always in my head.
Speaker: Yeah, I'll just say, we've been having a great time.

Speaker: Honestly, I was kind of rooting for them to have the absolutely wild stat of losing every single game they play in the Western Conference on the road.

Speaker: They just had to beat Winnipeg.
Speaker: So I was honestly kind of mad at them for winning that one.
Speaker: Because it would have been really funny if they'd lost.
Speaker: It would have been incredible.
Speaker: One for the history books.

Speaker: They can't do anything right.
Speaker: They can't even lose right.
Speaker: Yeah, it's terrible.
Speaker: And so, yeah, now that we have that out of the way, we thought that it would be fun to start this podcast episode, even though we already started it with a tangent.
Speaker: We're gonna start it with just a lightning round of discourse that happened specifically on Hockey Twitter while our podcast was on a little break.
Speaker: Because, I mean, nobody's really talking about the SIDS anymore, so it's kind of just constant discourse.
Speaker: And I know a lot of people listening to this have probably quit Twitter or never got on it, and I respect that.
Speaker: But, like...
Speaker: You know, the content is so good sometimes.
Speaker: Like, if you can resist contributing to the discourse, it's pretty entertaining, you know?
Speaker: And it's gotten worse, too.
Speaker: So we thought we would just kind of go through some of it.
Speaker: Yeah, do you want to start us off?
Speaker: Sure.
Speaker: So...
Speaker: I get the best one.
Speaker: So to start... To be clear, we are giving our opinions very, very quickly.
Speaker: It's a lightning round.
Speaker: Okay, so to start, everyone knows Mark Mathot, everyone should know Zoobcast, friend of the show, friend of like, we are podcast friends, whatever, Zoobcast.
Speaker: Zoobcast was like, it's funny how Mark Mathot is always like tweeting and whatever.
Speaker: And then, okay, do you want to take the rest?
Speaker: Because I feel like you describe it well.
Speaker: Yeah, so the Zoopcast says, isn't it hilarious that Mark Mathod is extremely online and just constantly tweeting?
Speaker: And Mark Mathod responded by tweeting at them many times and getting real mad, even though they didn't tag him.
Speaker: in the tweet.
Speaker: I don't think.
Speaker: Yeah, it was just a screenshot.
Speaker: They deliberately, like, you know, didn't tag him, didn't quote tweet, but to prove how not online he is and how not owned he is, he did go after them.
Speaker: He did request to go on their podcast and then make fun of them when they denied his request.
Speaker: So all this to say, our opinion on this is that in the great Sends Twitter war between Mark Mathot and the Zoopcast, we are siding with the Zoopcast.
Speaker: It may come as a shock.
Speaker: And my take on this, which will be my take, spoiler alert, for a lot of this, is it's wild that Mark Mathot has so, so much money and is still posting so much.
Speaker: Like, I would not be doing that.
Speaker: Yeah, like, if I was that rich, I would just enjoy my money and not ever be online.
Speaker: It's like, you know, I post the most often when I'm, like,
Speaker: in school during exam season and I have a paper to write and it's like, you know, if I actually have time to do other things, I will find other hobbies.
Speaker: Like I'm gonna be reading books, touching grass, doing sports, going outside, but if I'm sitting on my computer trying to force myself to write a paper, that's when I'm tweeting a lot.
Speaker: So like I have an excuse.
Speaker: Mark my thought, what is his excuse?
Speaker: It's true.
Speaker: And you know what?
Speaker: A testament to this, ever since I've not had exams anymore, I've basically not tweeted.
Speaker: So, like, I feel like Mark of a thought...
Speaker: Like, you have a family and so much money, so just go do anything else.
Speaker: Yeah, there have been a few times where I've gotten really into, like, I've just been reading a really good book, and then I start getting DMs being like, hey, is everything okay?
Speaker: Like, you haven't been tweeting for a week, and I'm like, this is a sign that things are going well, actually.
Speaker: Yeah, that's the thing.
Speaker: It's like, if, I feel like the rule of thumb should be, like, if you are tweeting so much, like, if one, not even just you, like, if anyone is tweeting so much, like, that's when the DM should be sent.
Speaker: Like, hey,

Speaker: Now, to be fair, I also tweet a lot when I'm working 9 to 5.
Speaker: So I think you should be tweeting when you are either on the clock or procrastinating on something.
Speaker: But if you actually could be doing something better, why are you on Twitter?
Speaker: And Mark Mathot, why do you know about the quote-unquote divide between the two sides of Sen's Twitter?
Speaker: That's extremely online discourse that only a very small handful of people care about.
Speaker: Yeah, like you have to be like turbo online to know that one.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Anyway, that's our lightning round discourse on that one.
Speaker: Yeah, the second one, perhaps more controversial, but it concerns the person who unintentionally gave us the name of this podcast.
Speaker: And although we named it somewhat in defiance of him, I do want to change course on my opinion.
Speaker: Mr. Andrew Berkshire is in fact a Twitter mutual of mine.
Speaker: And I, you know, am less angry about his most recent take than I have been his other takes.
Speaker: And I think that people are being very weird.
Speaker: And you know what's really annoying?
Speaker: It makes it harder to hate people in a fun way when they're getting piled on to an insane degree.
Speaker: I enjoy dunking on Andrew Berkshire a healthy amount when he's tweeting insane things about the Habs and the Sens.
Speaker: And now I can't do that because holy shit people have been going after him.
Speaker: So our take on this discourse, a lot of people listening probably won't know.
Speaker: We're not going to explain the whole thing.
Speaker: Hockey is too expensive and it is in fact disingenuous to write puff pieces about how players got where they are through hard work when those players are accepted even by hockey player standards.
Speaker: Do you have anything to add?
Speaker: Yeah, my only thing to add is that sometimes someone being cringe doesn't mean they're wrong.
Speaker: Sometimes people are actually correct.
Speaker: And I don't even think he's cringe all the time.
Speaker: I think that like there were elements of this thing that was like, ooh, well, that's cringe.
Speaker: So people are going to dunk on you.
Speaker: But people dunked on him for reasons other than being cringe.
Speaker: And that's not right.
Speaker: Yeah, I saw people pulling up an old tweet of his where he was complaining about his landlord to try to dunk on him.

Speaker: So the next bit of discourse surrounds this discourse that I feel like comes up every like 18 months or so, which is that players can see what you post about them.
Speaker: My reaction to this discourse is like, yes, that's why I have Josh Norris blocked.
Speaker: Yeah, yeah, just tweet it on your private account, block the players if you're really concerned.
Speaker: I think I mostly toe the line.
Speaker: I believe that, you know, the one big thing is that players, I am aware that players probably see the hotness rankings.
Speaker: But you know what, that just means that they know which subset of the LGBTQ plus community has adopted them as a mascot.
Speaker: Thomas Shabbat wore pride tape and pride night.
Speaker: So I think he's probably cool with it.
Speaker: The other thing I will say is that that just gives them an opportunity to try to improve.

Speaker: Yeah, I think when I watched, because I've only seen one game live, where PWH at Ottawa played, I think when I watched the game in person, I don't know if it was just, like, an anomaly or because I was in person, but I feel like I noticed her the most in that game.
Speaker: And since, I feel like I'm, like, the, I don't know, like, is not, like, a huge standout for me.
Speaker: Yeah, I feel like every once in a while she does something good and I'm like, oh, right, her.
Speaker: I think part of it is, wasn't she, I should know this, wasn't she like a training camp signing?
Speaker: because I was so excited about Grant Ventus and Akane Shiga that I was like, I don't give a shit who is this girl.

Speaker: she's such a good story she's been so good she's quite a hat trick recently like i would die for her yeah and it's just like she is just so cool and also like so young so i'm like oh my gosh like it's incredible you're doing all this so like younger than me yeah not by much not by much guys i just turned 25. yeah she is so cool that's the thing she just has like just so good vibes

Speaker: She's very brave to wear that number in Ottawa, but so deserving.

Speaker: I would say, if I'm being objective, which obviously we always are on this podcast,
Speaker: I would give her a B+.
Speaker: The plus being because I love her.
Speaker: I think she's done well, but I would like to see a little bit more.
Speaker: She has looked really good, she hasn't quite been putting up as many points as I would like.
Speaker: She really just has the one goal.
Speaker: And actually I'm looking at her stats, she literally doesn't even have an assist, so it's just one point.
Speaker: that's wild considering how well she's been playing like she definitely looks like a player who does better than that but like I do feel like we need to see a little bit more in terms of production yeah I think B plus yeah because it's like I think watching her play I'm like oh my gosh like she's so dynamic and so good I'm like that's like her stat line is nuts to me like I don't understand how that's I know yeah I also and I was in the crowd for her first goal it was incredible she did it for you
Speaker: She did.
Speaker: I also, I feel like the one thing I do notice when I watch her play is she's sometimes just a little bit competitive.
Speaker: Like, she's not as physical as some of the other players.
Speaker: She's been getting better over the course of the season, but especially early on,
Speaker: It didn't seem like she was... It felt like she was a little bit hesitant to throw big hits or play the body a little bit, which is understandable because she's quite a bit smaller than most of the players on the ice.
Speaker: And clearly isn't quite used to this level of play and this level of physicality.
Speaker: I have no doubt that she will be an incredible player in the league, but...
Speaker: Right now, I feel like it's very much the vibe of, you know, we see in the NHL a lot, like, you know, a European player comes over and is like a child at like 18, you know, and just can't quite adjust to the NHL yet, but they got there eventually.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So I feel like that's where we're at with Akane Shiga right now.
Speaker: Yeah, I feel like so much potential is there.
Speaker: And I feel like next season, for sure, she will be an A, in my opinion.
Speaker: And also, in case anybody misunderstands what I was saying, I'm aware that Akane Shiga is not a European player.
Speaker: I am very aware that she's Japanese.
Speaker: I was making a comparison to like in the NHL when European players come over and stuff, right?
Speaker: Maybe it was... I realized after I said that, like, oh, that's gonna sound weird.
Speaker: But it just has a similar vibe to that.
Speaker: Like, you know, I'm thinking Tim Stutz, the rookie season, the bit, right?
Speaker: Like, not necessarily putting up the points, but like, you can see that the potential is there.

Speaker: Yeah, I think that's a very good comparison of like, you can see all the skill and stuff.

Speaker: She's the type of defender where it's good that you don't notice her because it means that she's doing well.

Speaker: And when it comes to like all hockey, but especially like men's hockey, because I feel like there's more bad players than men's hockey.
Speaker: I just feel like the defenders I do notice are because they're so bad.
