Introduction & Guest Welcome

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Newcastle Podcast. And by the time you're listening to this, we're at the end of January. Finally, it's been about 257 days since January started and we've made it. it's ended on a Friday, which is very, it suits my OCD very nicely. So welcome to the Newcastle Podcast. Today, we're going to be previewing our oh home fix and our next fixture against Fulham on Saturday.
00:00:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
And i be before before we start that, I am joined by two lovely guests. So first up is my girl, Jo. You've probably heard her giggling in the background. Hello.
00:00:47
Jo
Hi, I can't help myself but giggle, I'm sorry. I got too excited.
00:00:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'm also joined by our other co-host, Michael. Hello.
00:00:58
Michael
Hey hey, how's it going?
00:00:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
I am good. We were just having a bit of a giggle of before we started recording because As always, my internet connection is dodgy. So can never rely on the the south connection.
00:01:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
So here we go. So if it drops out, you guys are taking over.
00:01:14
Michael
F for the south.
00:01:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:01:17
Jo
to the stuff.
00:01:17
Michael
equipment
00:01:18
Jo
Wow.
00:01:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, okay. Right guys, first part, obviously it's coming towards the end of January.

Miggy Almirón's Transfer: Past & Future

00:01:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've got, well, by the time the listeners listen to this, there's only probably half a day left or whatever, but we are currently on the 30th of January.
00:01:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Transfer window is somewhat nearly done. And we have a little bit of transfer news that has come in this afternoon of our very own MIGI Alma 1. Sad times.
00:01:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Obviously, it's been, well, is it sad times? I don't know. It's obviously been, it's been a few years now since we've, the MIGI rumours have started about where he's going, where he's staying, who he's going to.
00:01:53
Jo
Mm hmm.
00:01:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it's been a bit of back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Rumours have started, we've got to one point and then the deals obviously fell through and then he's been here for another six months. Now we are in a position where obviously he has gone. And yeah, seems a little bit of a breakthrough, I suppose, for Newcastle and Transfer News as that goes. So how are we feeling? Jo, come to you first.
00:02:22
Jo
it's a bit emotional I guess isn't it? I mean it was definitely we've had this conversation it was time for him to go wasn't it?
00:02:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:02:27
Jo
We all agree that and I've been saying for a long time like we all have to be fair that you know many a window has passed exactly what you've just touched on that he should have been going he didn't go bids came in they weren't high enough he's kind of just stayed he hasn't played enough and it just kind of knocked on so it was the right time for everyone it's the right time for us it was definitely the right time for him we said it before he can still do a job so it's not like he's burnt out it's the end of his career and he's done
00:02:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:02:51
Jo
He's just done for us.
00:02:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:02:53
Jo
That's all. So he's served his purpose. That sounds so horrible. But do you know what I mean by that? He peaked, he troft, and now he's left. So thank you very much for the memories.
00:03:03
Jo
It's what I want to say, Miggy. And please go and and enjoy your time in America, which I'm sure he will.
00:03:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Yeah, just reading this afternoon that Eddie has come out and sort of said that he wanted to thank Miggy for everything he's given us during their time together. He's been the ultimate professional and he has been a big part of some of our most memorable moments in recent seasons. He is a great person and will miss him greatly, but this is the right move at the right time for him and his family and we wish them well. And like you say, it's probably definitely now the right time for us for him to move on, isn't it? Because I know we all joked around, know, the streets will never forget October 2022, Miggy, when he became prime Lionel Messi, whatever happened. But yeah, it definitely is now the right time um him to move on and

Transfer Strategy: Last-minute & Summer Plans

00:03:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
go. So yeah, Michael, how are you sort of feeling and looking at that?
00:03:54
Michael
Yeah I think Miggy is one of those that I mean I said on a episode I think it was last week that he could potentially be looked at in years to come as a cult hero for those that season and there was a spell under Bruce as well where he was very good I remember the West Brom Cup game in particular he looked electric I mean it was against West Brom but fantastic good memories and to be honest when I saw it come through I actually felt quite sad but
00:04:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mhm.
00:04:14
Jo
Haha.
00:04:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, me too.
00:04:19
Michael
i've so I've said for years that Mickey should go. We should have cashed in when Athletic Madrid apparently wanted him after that electric season. But it's you know it's it's sometimes it's time to go, players leave, and I hope he does fantastic again in the MLS and proves that he is a good player. It just wasn't really the right fit for him at Newcastle at the minute.
00:04:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I completely agree. Just while we're sat here, obviously, I'm just going through my notes after some videos popped up of that PSG goal that he scored.
00:04:48
Jo
you.
00:04:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
The goal against PSG. Sorry, I still can't believe he actually scored against PSG in the Champions League, by the way.
00:04:51
Michael
Hope you had times.
00:04:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
But anyway, what do we think this means for us then? So are we, I mean, I'm just asking the question just to ask the question, basically. But do we think we're going to go in for any sort of last minute last day transfers or bids or anything like that, or do we think we're just going to sort of, I guess, pocket the MIGI money and wait until the summer?
00:05:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
What are we what we thinking? Because I'm leaning towards that we're not going to do any other business now.
00:05:23
Jo
no i don't think we're going
00:05:23
Michael
yeah we're doing now
00:05:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
but no We're doing nothing, are we?
00:05:25
Michael
unfoldit like
00:05:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. um um we We touched on it a couple of pods ago where, you know, we had like 70 million ready to go for Mark Gahey.
00:05:28
Jo
yeah
00:05:29
Michael
but
00:05:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, thank God we didn't end up getting him in the end. but
00:05:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
where you know We're now at a situation where we're not bidden we're not bid this month at all for anyone. So what do what do we think? Do we think we're just going to beat? Do you think Newcastle is now waiting for a big summer transfer window, Michael?
00:05:48
Jo
No, I don't think we're gonna...
00:05:51
Michael
Yeah, Unfortunately. yeah i think it's it's going to be one of those unfortunately where i mean i say unfortunately by the time this goes out there's only a couple of days people have to bear the transfer window again but i think the summer you'll start to see sort of the best way i can say it is it's like earphones they're all wrangled up at the minute
00:05:52
Jo
no. It's a... yeah.
00:06:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:08
Michael
And it just, you have to take out the knots one by one to actually get to where you want to be.
00:06:13
Michael
And it's unfortunately, Miggie Almorone leaving us is just like one little knot coming out. ah ah And it involves other teams as well. I mean, Aston Villa, John Duran's apparently going to go to Saudi Arabia.
00:06:26
Michael
if the Saudis would fancy helping us with any signings anytime soon, that'd be delightful.
00:06:30
Jo
We're not allowed, Michael. Did you not know, apparently?
00:06:33
Michael
Well, his highness can be what he wants.
00:06:33
Jo
Because we'll just get looked upon in big old magnifying glass. Oh, what if Newcastle possibly got out of that? Oh, they're not allowed that. They're not allowed to be linked too much to the Saudis.
00:06:42
Jo
They're already linked them to blah, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, sorry.
00:06:44
Michael
They can bid $5 million for... I don't know, is Jeff Hendrix still with with? No, he isn't. But they can bid $5 million for more Gillespie.
00:06:53
Jo
They can have a long staff of 50.
00:06:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
well Well, the Saudi Arabia transfers, right?
00:06:54
Michael
Value for money.
00:06:57
Michael
Saudi modelling contracts have got to be worth some pretty pennies. Gillespie can be on one of those. Happy days.
00:07:04
Jo
Fantastic I love that.
00:07:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, I probably, I don't know if I'm allowed to say this or what, but I'm going to say anyway, do we think it's getting a little bit out of hand?
00:07:16
Jo
Yeah. i think we're allowed to say it right we're not saying anything bad here it's just yeah of course it look it's it's just stupid money being thrown at players that really at the start of it it was all about players at the end of their career or supposedly towards the end of the career like Ronaldo who's almost 40 but fair play at home still absolutely you know peak form and all that well not form but you know what i mean fitness and all that sort of stuff but at first you're thinking right fair enough load of money end your career why not go out on a high get a load of money and retire and you're not that they're already not set for life by the way these guys but never mind
00:07:18
Michael
Yeah.
00:07:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Relax say that, yeah?
00:07:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:07:28
Michael
Yeah.
00:07:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
yep
00:07:46
Jo
now you're getting players who are like that it's like their peak career like this is where i think it's getting silly because yes all right i do to a degree understand why some players are going over there and cashing in and getting loads of money but really the pickier career you're not going to actually want more from yourself and this is where i think the ambition of a footballer in comparison the ambition of a footballer decades ago is just out the window it's all money
00:07:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:08:11
Jo
and it it is ruin it to me it's not just Saudi by the way it's just money in general and again this is not a new subject is ruining football or has ruined football in my eyes but yeah he's too young in my eyes yeah like
00:08:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, because obviously, Michael, you just told us that John Duran's potentially going to Saudi Arabia before we started recording. I honestly can't get my head around that, and I'm not sure if it's because I don't understand why he wants to leave the Premier League at his age. matter just fight I'm just a bit baffled, and I just find he's way too young. And also, Aston Villa are on a pretty decent run of form in, well, yeah, OK, Premier League, maybe not so much, but their Champions League campaign is pretty decent at the minute.
00:08:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah, I'm a bit baffled and I feel like, the money, everything, money's just

Saudi Arabia's Youth-focused Strategy

00:08:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
ruining it all. I know it's been the case for a lot of years, but yeah, I'm a bit fed up about that actually.
00:09:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
anyway, we'll leave the first.
00:09:02
Michael
Yeah, to be fair, I do get that and ah to give a little bit of a defense for For John Duran, I don't know what his upbringing was in Colombia or anything like that, but South America and stuff like that, a lot of players become footballers and stuff you know because of the money for their families and stuff like that.
00:09:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
True.
00:09:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, true that.
00:09:22
Michael
So I can think maybe for Duran, going to Saudi Arabia guarantees his family's family's family, anyone that comes into his bloodline in the next 100 years, it means they're all right.
00:09:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:31
Jo
Yeah, of course.
00:09:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very true.
00:09:35
Michael
it's ah ah It'll probably ruin his career. He's only 21, I think, two, three years.
00:09:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, very young.
00:09:39
Michael
He'll probably be forgotten. But what I'd seen about the the Saudi Pro League as well is that um apparently one of the main issues they've had they've come across starting this window is that they're completely overhauling their strategy.
00:09:56
Michael
So they're not bringing in big names at the end of their career anymore. They're looking to bring in young players and then boost the league that way. So boosting the quality of the league rather than the reputation of the league through the likes of Ronaldo because they've looked at the Neymar signing and I can't remember how much he was on a week. Felt like around 2 million or something like that.
00:10:16
Michael
but he only played seven games in one and a half years and he's now off to Santos as well. So I think they're learning their lessons. They've got money, but it doesn't mean that they have to splurge on ridiculous amounts on rubbish players.
00:10:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:10:29
Michael
Now I'm sure Duran will be back, but yeah, it's a shame to see a talented player move to such a meh league really.
00:10:29
Jo
Yeah.
00:10:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:10:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very.
00:10:38
Jo
nobody watches it is the problem you see all these stadiums and there's just nobody in them well all right there's some but you're talking about a fraction of the amount that the Premier League where he's currently paying and Champions League like you said it just to me at that age doesn't make any sense yes all right it's a money thing and it's going to be a big draw
00:10:43
Michael
Yeah.
00:10:49
Michael
Yeah.
00:10:55
Jo
people are saying you know it's hard to turn down this amount of money and it just feels to me like footballers who have obviously worked and worked and worked on a skill to become at a certain level it's almost just like giving up on a career that you're just starting and especially for someone like Duran but even someone in their mid to late 20s I still think it's too early to go to Saudi
00:11:10
Michael
yeah
00:11:14
Jo
but like you said Michael though if they are I didn't know about that about the Saudi league by the way that they were changing their strategy but I think they needed to because you're absolutely bang on I saw some bizarre stat well not bizarre real stat about Neymar and um how much it's cost them per goal per assist per minute all this so it was ridiculous I mean you're talking millions and millions per goal even worse persists all this sort of stuff so yeah all right maybe they have learned a lesson in trying to get younger people in but
00:11:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
No. i
00:11:41
Jo
People move for money. Everyone's money-driven, I guess, and we all are in our job. It's just, we don't get paid millions, unfortunately, but never mind.
00:11:46
Michael
And it was.
00:11:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and that's really sad.
00:11:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I wish we did. I wish I had deserved to be paid millions.
00:11:49
Jo
I'll get over that one.
00:11:51
Jo
Sad for us.
00:11:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, very sad for us.
00:11:52
Jo
Bad times.
00:11:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. I think we'll leave part one there because I could talk about the Saudi League all day and and how much it's ruining football. So I will come to you, Jo, for our first advert, please, from Zeng Castor.
00:12:06
Jo

00:12:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Lovely job. I forget how short that advert is now compared to what it used to be.
00:12:33
Jo
Sometimes I struggle with it as well.
00:12:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or it goes very quick.
00:12:35
Jo
Shock.
00:12:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, you know, these things happen.
00:12:37
Jo
these things
00:12:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right, guys, part two, we'll focus more on us, I guess, instead of the Saudi Arabia League. Big week coming up.
00:12:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very big week coming up. And I don't know if I'm getting too nervous too soon because it's still only right now when we're recording Thursday.

Match Previews: Fulham & Arsenal

00:12:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we obviously have got a um game against Fulham on Saturday and then we go is it Wednesday or Tuesday?
00:13:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can't remember. but Okay, Wednesday.
00:13:05
Michael
Once.
00:13:05
Jo
Tuesday, isn't it?
00:13:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
We go...
00:13:07
Jo
It's a Wednesday. I don't know what day it is now.
00:13:10
Jo
Is it Thursday now? It's Thursday now.
00:13:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Me either.
00:13:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Me either. We then go on to our second leg of the Carabao Cut semi-final against our favourite people in the world, Arsenal.
00:13:12
Jo
Sorry. yeah
00:13:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
said with such sarcasm. we'll focus on Saturday first.
00:13:25
Jo
and
00:13:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, I assume we'll probably do some sort of preview before the Wednesday game anyway, but we can touch on it today as well. Right, me and Ian done a crossover with the Fulham guys yesterday, was released today.
00:13:38
Jo
Hmm.
00:13:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And they weren't too hopeful for the weekend guys. You know, Fulham's recent form, they've been probably a team that's drawn
00:13:46
Jo
Yeah.
00:13:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
most games out of anyone this season and lost a lot of games, and sorry, drawn a lot of games from winning positions. So they think that we, well, the guys said they're going for a draw to be a bit optimistic, but they basically think that we might win.
00:14:02
Jo
I've given up already.
00:14:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, well, exactly. So let's just talk about how we're feeling going into Saturday. Obviously we are on, um are on, um what are we now, won 10 games out of 11, damn you Bournemouth.
00:14:16
Michael
Yeah.
00:14:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, Joe, how are we feeling going into Saturday? Obviously, we're looking pretty good.
00:14:23
Jo
We are. I'm hoping that the so-called blip that I called Bournemouth is the blip and we will be just as good as we need to be against Fulham. Not as kind of in third gear as Ian has been saying that we're in.
00:14:37
Jo
I think we will need to step up a bit more than maybe we think we might need to against them. I don't think it's going to be an easy game by the way. I think it is definitely a winnable game and I can understand why from their side of things that they're fearing that they'll lose because of
00:14:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:14:46
Michael
Yeah.
00:14:50
Jo
When you think if we were in their position, if we were speaking honestly, I would expect us to lose and be clambering for a draw as well. But we're not, thank God. And we've just got to kind of keep the face with the lads that they're going to kind of book their ideas up a bit. They weren't bad against us or something. We wouldn't. It was great. It was fine.
00:15:08
Jo
but we weren't in first gear, it was in sixth gear, whatever bloody gear, doesn't matter anyway, doesn't matter, we weren't at the top of our game, that's what I mean, we weren't at the top of our game, I'm sick of talking about gears, this is Ian Manley talking about these damn gears, anyway, we weren't at the top of our game is what I'm trying to say, but I feel like we will a bit more, and I think again, because Bournemouth was at home and it was that kind of, we had so much more expectation out of that game that we didn't get,
00:15:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's been a long week.
00:15:31
Michael
Yeah. Yeah.
00:15:33
Jo
I don't know. I've got a lot of expectation that I think the lads will will pull through and i yes, do expect to win would be the general consensus there.
00:15:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I said yesterday that Obviously, let's be honest, we started the season quite slow, didn't we?

Newcastle's Form & Fulham Match Expectations

00:15:47
Michael
Yeah.
00:15:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very slow, in fact, and was frustrating.
00:15:48
Jo
Yeah.
00:15:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I remember sitting on this is exact podcast before we visited Craven Cottage and said, I think we're going to go there and absolutely thrash them. And instead, they tore us a new one and we lost 3-1.
00:16:02
Michael
yeah
00:16:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we fully deserved it because we were absolutely awful. And I was saying to the the film guys yesterday, I was just like, this is by any means not going to be an easy game. for Newcastle because, you know, they were saying, oh, well, St.
00:16:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
James Park is an easy place to come to. Well, no, it's not. But also it doesn't mean that we just automatically win. Look what happened to boom with Bournemouth.
00:16:24
Jo
Yeah.
00:16:24
Michael
Yeah.
00:16:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, so i I am agreement is I think the lads are going to have to turn up and be on the A game. Michael, what's your thoughts?
00:16:32
Michael
Yeah, I think it's interesting that the Fulham lads aren't on confident, because neither were the Bournemouth lads. The Bournemouth lads were praying for a draw, and then they ended up seeing a Justin Clive Oat hat-trick.
00:16:43
Michael
So if Harry Wilson pulls away with a hat-trick at the weekend, I might just.
00:16:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:16:47
Jo
Don't.
00:16:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he's injured.
00:16:49
Jo
Don't.
00:16:49
Michael
It's best not to be said.
00:16:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think I think he's injured.
00:16:52
Michael
He was just the first thing that came to my mind.
00:16:54
Michael
I'm not going to lie.
00:16:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm sure the film guy said yesterday that he's injured because they were saying that they were a bit.
00:16:58
Michael
Crack. And I picked the one point.
00:16:59
Jo
Good.
00:17:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, you had to know. I'm sure they said he went off injured against when they played Man United at the weekend.
00:17:05
Jo
good
00:17:07
Michael
Fair.
00:17:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Good.
00:17:08
Jo
Sorry. I'm so nice.
00:17:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah ah Good. yeah.
00:17:12
Michael
I think.
00:17:13
Jo
This is why I'm not allowed on the crossovers. I'd be like, oh well.
00:17:17
Michael
yeah i think in regards to to Fulham obviously you mentioned the Beatles earlier in the season they don't tend to do the double over us that often at home we are we are pretty hey hey you know what you know what when this first when this podcast first started i got so much stick for calling one of you the wrong name once and now it's you know what i'd say karma
00:17:22
Jo
Oh, guardian. I mean, Michael.
00:17:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry.
00:17:28
Jo
Can't speak. Sorry, Michael. Shoot me now. I'm so sorry.
00:17:37
Jo
Michael, I'm so sorry.
00:17:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
sorry
00:17:41
Jo
You know the irony, right?
00:17:42
Jo
Michael, there's like a 40-year age gap between you as well, you're like, there's nothing in common. Oh my gosh. Sorry, I'll shut up.
00:17:51
Michael
ah ah It's fine.
00:17:51
Jo
Carry on, Michael, sorry.
00:17:52
Michael
It's a compliment. Ian's a lovely, lovely man.
00:17:53
Jo
He is, he's a great guy.
00:17:56
Michael
So as I was getting on to the point, ah Newcastle, we do well against Fulham at St James's.
00:18:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nope.
00:18:03
Michael
I don't think we've actually lost to them at St James's since the championship when Matt Smith scored in the opening game. Still have nightmares about that, to be honest.
00:18:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:18:13
Michael
Shouldn't. It was a very long time ago. But in Fulham Hall, actually we've got a little stat about Fulham. They're actually performing better on the road this season than they ever have in a single Premier League season.
00:18:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
They did say that, yeah
00:18:26
Michael
Yeah, they've picked up 16 points in 11 games. But as we say, St James's Park, we're in good form. We're playing really well at the minute.
00:18:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
yep.
00:18:36
Michael
The only thing I'm worried about is if we're worried about the game next week against, I wanted to say Birmingham City there instead of Arsenal, but I couldn't even bring myself to joke.
00:18:42
Jo
yeah
00:18:45
Jo
Wow, we've all lost the plot now.
00:18:47
Michael
No, I wanted a joke, but I couldn't i couldn't even bring myself to do it.
00:18:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
We have all of them.
00:18:50
Jo
Got you.
00:18:51
Michael
but ah ah If we're thinking about Arsenal, which we may well be, it's the best chance of, well, making a final since last time, which was only about three free competitions ago, but, you know, 2-0 up against Arsenal, first leg, it's going to be very, very difficult still to go through.
00:19:08
Michael
And if we've got one i idea, one mind on that, then Fulham could easily come around and beat us 3-1 again.
00:19:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, yeah.
00:19:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I completely agree. this, because I was looking at our run of fixtures after this weekend. And I feel like, um mean, I know Eddie's always like, we only look at the game that's in front of us. We only look at the game that we're going to, you know.
00:19:15
Jo
Yeah.
00:19:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I'm like looking about nine games in front because I'm thinking, this is quite a pivotal win that we need to probably win on Saturday.
00:19:31
Michael
Yeah.
00:19:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
And obviously then we've got Wednesday and then the following weekend is, well, the next Saturday is the FA Cup fourth round. But then we have, I mean, I feel a bit silly saying this, but then we have Manchester City, who are very unpredictable, you know, as we know.
00:19:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
We then got Nottingham Forest now. And if you ask me another season, I wouldn't be so worried about going to Nottingham Forest, but seen as this season, they've turned up about six notches. I'm a little bit worried about us facing them even though we're at home.
00:20:04
Jo
Yeah.
00:20:05
Michael
there.
00:20:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then we've obviously got Liverpool and that's all before February ends. So it's a jam-packed February.
00:20:11
Jo
Yeah.
00:20:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, so I do feel like the lads need to, and I know they will because they do every single game, turn up with some confidence. So just focusing on Saturday, do we think we'll see an unchanged side from Eddie?
00:20:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or do we think, do you think he's going to go full strength? Or do we think he's going to rest some?
00:20:33
Michael
Yeah, I think it's full strength. I think anyhow's not the kind of manager that'll sort of not disrespect the team, but put out, let's say, play Osula instead of Alexander Isaac at the weekend because we've got we've got Arsenal.
00:20:35
Jo
garabby
00:20:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's got to be.
00:20:35
Jo
really
00:20:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh no, no, no, no, no.
00:20:44
Jo
but
00:20:46
Michael
So yeah, I think the only change we might see is potentially at the back. Botman and Cher, I think it's a brilliant time to give them game time together, particularly because you play against Arsenal at St James's.
00:20:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:20:59
Michael
as You do want your best back line. Then again, actually Danburn would be a good fit for that game.
00:21:03
Jo
Gotta be, really.
00:21:04
Michael
So yeah, maybe Shara Botman.
00:21:05
Jo
He's been homeless this season, there's a problem there.
00:21:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's been brilliant.
00:21:07
Jo
like It is.
00:21:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's so hard to drop.
00:21:07
Michael
Yeah.
00:21:10
Jo
I completely understand where you're coming from, by the way, Michael. but
00:21:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah,
00:21:14
Jo
To be fair, we've been told about Byrne being a our player of the season so far, but then say that while we would drop them to have Cher and Botman, it's a tough one, isn't it? Because I completely understand where you're coming from, the Cher and Botman thing. um And if I'm honest, I'd be kind of slightly controversial, but maybe not, and play five at the back, well, like three, and then have Tino and Hall as like wing backs, because I'd have Cher, Botman and Byrne against Arsenal.
00:21:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:21:38
Michael
yeah
00:21:39
Michael
ah be good
00:21:40
Jo
I don't know if he's going to, we probably won't, but that's just, you know, he might get the memo, you never know.
00:21:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's been a headache from, isn't it? Because it's like, but have we ever been in this position where we're struggling to know who to drop and who not and who to bring in?

Defensive Strategies for Upcoming Matches

00:21:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because and it is the headache we wanted.
00:21:55
Jo
This is the headache we wanted.
00:21:56
Jo
Like, look at the headache that you had when we're in GED, wasn't it? You know, so this is a good headache.
00:21:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:00
Jo
If you're thinking bad headaches, we've got a good headache. Yeah, but yeah.
00:22:02
Michael
Yeah, to be fair, it could be worse.
00:22:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a good headache.
00:22:04
Michael
It could be Bramble, Stephen Caldwell, Stephen Taylor, and Peter Ramage as your you're only four centre backs.
00:22:09
Jo
I mean, some issues right there.
00:22:09
Michael
Like it was a mid 2000s.
00:22:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, like it could be absolutely worse.
00:22:11
Michael
So yeah, if we had that against Arsenal, it's sixth out Arsenal. So Eddie, you're a lucky man.
00:22:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mate, we're not even making Arsenal without in the first round.
00:22:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:21
Michael
True.
00:22:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, God. Just ah ah just quickly. I know people are going to be like, God, stick to the stick to the schedule. But how are we feeling about next Wednesday's game?
00:22:32
Michael
sound sound busy yeah
00:22:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because I'm more nervous for that than anything in the world at the minute.
00:22:35
Jo
I'm only nervous because I'm so dying to secure the final, but I'm not nervous.
00:22:39
Jo
i'm I'm with Michael on that one. I'm feeling good about it. My only nerves come from, I just want it over with now. So it's secured. I mean, you start planning the final and planning our fun times.
00:22:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah hellolan and our day out but kind of but yeah Honestly, I need to fast forward to this time next week just to be like, right, I can stop sweating.
00:22:49
Jo
Cause that whole weekend's like getting.
00:22:52
Jo
Sorry. yeah That's how I feel about next Wednesday. Sorry. Just screamed.
00:23:00
Jo
That's all I mean.
00:23:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can, I can actually sleep.
00:23:02
Jo
Yeah.
00:23:02
Michael
yeah
00:23:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know what it is.
00:23:03
Jo
Yeah.
00:23:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm thinking, it but what I am also nervous about, I think I've said it before. is, guys, it's a pivotal moment in my marriage because if Liverpool make it and Newcastle make it, what am I going to do?
00:23:13
Jo
Nick, you'll have to move up Newcastle. Just... Oh, at least come up for the final.
00:23:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just for never. Yeah, I ain't staying down here for it.
00:23:19
Jo
Just... yeah. Mate, that's what I like to hear.
00:23:22
Michael
hey
00:23:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not staying down here for it.
00:23:24
Jo
That's a good girl.
00:23:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm so stupid.
00:23:26
Jo
Good girl.
00:23:26
Michael
Yeah, right.
00:23:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, dear. Right, so general consensus is we're feeling good for next Wednesday and we're feeling semi-confident going into Saturday.
00:23:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Okay, right.
00:23:35
Michael
Yep, 100%.
00:23:36
Jo
Yeah, I'll do that.
00:23:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll end part two there. Michael, you do the next advert and then we'll talk some more.

Jo
Michael, I love it when you do the ads.
00:24:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I love that. That was so professional.
00:24:18
Jo
Honestly, I love it.
00:24:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
I forgot the YouTube thing. they they had They gave me one job, the YouTube at the beginning of the podcast, and we are 25 minutes in, and I still haven't mentioned it.
00:24:24
Michael
Yeah.
00:24:24
Jo
One job, Nick, one job.
00:24:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
So thanks, Michael.
00:24:30
Michael
It's alright, 30 minutes ago you were sitting there going, I'm gonna mention it in the first, when I first speak, and then about a minute in I went, well that's not happening is it?
00:24:38
Jo
It's gone. She's totally forgotten.
00:24:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Totally. It's because it's new. It's because it's new. Damn it. Damn it. Yeah. Okay. Thanks, Michael, for that. Right. We will focus on Fulham a little bit, obviously, because like we've said, there are side are unpredictable and we learnt the hard way at the

Fulham's Key Players: Robinson & Iwobi

00:24:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
beginning of the season.
00:24:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I do feel like they need um be mentioned ever so slightly. And then as always, we'll do our score predictions.
00:25:04
Jo
Thank
00:25:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
I got mine in last night because I was on the crossover with Ian and he wasn't very happy with mine.
00:25:08
Jo
you.
00:25:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I'll leave that for the end of the podcast. But focusing on Marco Silva's film side. Are there any players that we think that may bring us, I'm going to say problems, and because I had a few that I think are going to bring us some problems, if we're caught on the back foot and, like we say, not out of third gear as what Ian's lovely saying always says.
00:25:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, Michael, what any players you're sort of, not dreading, but think potentially it could give us a bit of a challenge?
00:25:35
Jo
Yeah.
00:25:43
Michael
Yeah, I think there's two that immediately come to mind. One of them's probably the obvious Anthony Robinson. The left back, he's absolutely fantastic, but...
00:25:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm. So good.
00:25:53
Michael
I'll not mention too much about him because he always gets mentioned. I suppose the player for Fulham that I think is really underrated is actually Alexa Wilby, the ex-Arsenal youngster Everton failure, I guess, but he's done really well at Fulham.
00:26:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Oh.
00:26:10
Michael
He's one of those players that whenever he gets a ball, he wants to get forward, he wants to progress the the play. And I think it's one of those where if to beat Newcastle, you have to be really quick in the transitions
00:26:21
Michael
And Alexa Wobbe's probably the player for Fulham that if he has a bad game, Newcastle win. If he has a good game, then it could be a bit of a struggle.
00:26:29
Jo
yeah
00:26:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I said well they were mentioned. He was mentioned on yesterday's crossover.
00:26:37
Jo
Yeah.
00:26:38
Jo
isn
00:26:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And obviously the left
00:26:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, if he has a good game against our right hand side.
00:26:41
Michael
yeah
00:26:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Joe, any any players your. you're keeping your eye on?
00:26:49
Jo
I was going to say, I will be as I call them.
00:26:53
Jo
or mar
00:26:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I will be.
00:26:53
Michael
thank
00:26:54
Jo
now Ian says I will have to sign him and call him why I will be but yeah he was the player that I picked when we did the the team of you know you've got to build a team out of anyone but in the big seven because obviously we are now the big seven so yeah I had mr.
00:26:54
Michael
where I will be.
00:26:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't see that yet.
00:26:57
Michael
but
00:27:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
We did say that, yeah.
00:27:05
Michael
yeah
00:27:08
Jo
I will be in there so yeah I do fear him because again if he has a game it's Tino assuming he's going to be the right back, isn't he really?
00:27:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I assume so.
00:27:17
Jo
He could struggle against him, but let's hope he doesn't and let's hope we're fine. Let's hope Mephinio is absolutely fine against Robinson because, yeah.
00:27:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's going to be fine.
00:27:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Murphy's in prime condition.
00:27:29
Jo
I'll stop now.
00:27:30
Jo
Of course he is.
00:27:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's in prime condition.
00:27:32
Jo
Sorry. I'll stop now before I go too far.
00:27:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
You stopped him before you go too far. Okay. Yeah. i am We asked the Fulham lads yesterday about how they're feeling, obviously facing a pretty informed Newcastle side.
00:27:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the one player that came to their mind was Alexander Esak. No mention of anyone else, but it was just Alexander Esak. So I'm thinking, I hope Alexander
00:27:54
Michael
Good to know they've done their research.
00:27:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm sure they did.
00:27:57
Jo
It's just like the obvious person, but is it not like the obvious person to pick with Isaac?
00:27:57
Michael
Well, let's
00:28:01
Jo
Like, come on, like Michael's right there, come on. Have they looked at the rest of our team?
00:28:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, do better for them.
00:28:05
Michael
do better.
00:28:06
Jo
Come on.
00:28:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Come on. So I was like, well, that's what I said.
00:28:09
Jo
Tonali would be my worry if I was outside Newcastle, by the way, just to be honest.
00:28:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
That is who I said. That is who I said.
00:28:14
Jo
Because we know.
00:28:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I could see Ian looking at me through the camera, because I mentioned Tenali every other episode, and I'm like, he is the player to watch from us. I don't care what anyone said.
00:28:22
Jo
He is.
00:28:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
He is the player, and I will stand by it.
00:28:24
Michael
Yeah.
00:28:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
he is
00:28:25
Jo
Yep.
00:28:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
an Italian dream.
00:28:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'll kiss him tomorrow if I could.
00:28:28
Jo
Dream.
00:28:30
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:28:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep. Yep.
00:28:32
Jo
Now we need to stop again, Nick.
00:28:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolute dream built. I'm going to stop.
00:28:34
Michael
Behave.
00:28:37
Jo
We have.
00:28:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've gone off trail and I can't remember what I was going to talk about.
00:28:37
Michael
I feel like a school teacher with you two. However, behave. Stop. Enough. Hey.
00:28:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brilliant.
00:28:45
Jo
Oh god.
00:28:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Shall we do our score predictions then? We're coming to the end.
00:28:51
Jo
We are.
00:28:51
Michael
Yeah, let's go.

Predicting Newcastle vs Fulham Outcome

00:28:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Coming to the end, right.
00:28:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I said, I'll go with mine because Ian literally will look like he wants to strangle me through the camera. I stole Ian's one, I said 3-1 to Newcastle.
00:28:59
Jo
Did you get in?
00:29:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
I said, it's going to be reversed this time. And he would literally go mental. So I stole his. So yeah. I think we're going to dominate. Genuinely think we're going to, I don't know why I said that.
00:29:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Genuinely think we're going to dominate. So yeah, that's one that's what I'm going for.
00:29:15
Michael
Toodel, follow me coming.
00:29:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'm sticking with it. So Joe. Hit me.
00:29:19
Michael
No, no.
00:29:23
Jo
I'm going 2-0.
00:29:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Too new.
00:29:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's obviously two words, yeah.
00:29:27
Jo
Just, just, yeah.
00:29:30
Jo
I was gonna say 2-1, but i'm I'm just feeling a little bit more confident than 2-1, so I'm going 2-0.
00:29:30
Michael
Don't sound so convinced.
00:29:36
Jo
That's my reasoning behind it.
00:29:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Love it.
00:29:38
Jo
Yeah.
00:29:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Love it. Okay, Michael.
00:29:42
Michael
um um I kind of wanted 2-0 as well, but I'll go 3-0.
00:29:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Take it.
00:29:47
Michael
No, because it's fine, I'll go 3-0.
00:29:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ooh.
00:29:48
Jo
Like you said, be the same, right?
00:29:51
Michael
I was torn between the two, it's it's fine. No, I think it'll be 3-0 Newcastle and we'll see Jacob Murphy and Alexander Rizak break the record for Newcastle of most combination, goal combinations between us a duo in Newcastle history.
00:30:07
Michael
Solano and Shira got six in the 1990s, Robert and Shira are 1-0-2. Rondon who is apparently the worst new castle striker of all time yeah for the beautiful ios A Perez in 1819 and we're going to add Jacob Murphy and Alexander Rizak to the top of that list with one maybe two goal contributions each against Fulham and a three nil win about five minutes when i pulled them up
00:30:15
Jo
Apparently Kev hates him.
00:30:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, I love Diode Peres.
00:30:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Michael, how long have you been waiting to use them stats?
00:30:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I love it.
00:30:41
Jo
He's so good at it.
00:30:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
I love a Michael stat.
00:30:42
Jo
like it it just He brings it out like it's just, yeah.
00:30:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
So good.
00:30:45
Jo
This is why you're the stat man.
00:30:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
he does It does. This is why you need to be on these more because we just go with the flow whereas you come with the ah ah the the actual facts.
00:30:47
