Introduction to Solarpreneur Podcast

00:00:03
Speaker
Welcome to the Solarpreneur Podcast, where we teach you to take your solar business to the next level. My name is Taylor Armstrong.

Taylor's Journey to Success

00:00:10
Speaker
I went from $50 in my bank account and struggling for groceries to closing 150 deals in the year and cracking the code on why sales reps fail.
00:00:19
Speaker
I teach you avoid the mistakes I made and bring in the top solar dogs of the industry to let you in on the secrets of generating more leads, falling up like a pro, and closing more deals.

What is a Solopreneur?

00:00:31
Speaker
What is a solopreneur you might ask? solopreneur is a new breed of solopro that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve mastery and you are about to become one.

Using Technology for Lead Generation

00:00:41
Speaker
So some of you already know that I run my own door to door sales team here in San Diego.
00:00:46
Speaker
And as we are gearing up for the summer, I realized if we do the same thing we always did, we're going to get the same results. But if I want to increase my deal flow, I need to do something different to get an advantage.
00:00:57
Speaker
Then we discovered an app called Solar Scout. But it's not a door knocking app. It's a data platform that shows us who is likely to go solar in our market. It shows us who has previously applied for solar, but later canceled the deal.
00:01:11
Speaker
who has moved in recently and even how much electricity the homes are using a given neighborhood it's been working for a lot of teams across the country and now i'm on board too i'm going to be one of the first few solar scout in san diego so i decided to partner up but i told them hey i'm going to talk about solar scout on my show can give my listeners a great deal and they did so go to solar scout.app forward slash taylor and book a demo with them and you'll get 10% off your first month when you sign up That's solarscout.app forward slash Taylor.

Sales Blitz Experience in a New City

00:01:44
Speaker
Okay, back to the show. Hey, what's going on, solarpreneurs? Today, we're going to be talking about the one-day blitz that I did last weekend. First time in my career that I've done just a one-day blitz, traveling to a different city, working it for one day, and coming back home.
00:02:00
Speaker
so I'm going to let you know all about my experience and see if it was worth it. Maybe you do one of your own. So welcome to the podcast. My name is Taylor Armstrong. We're here to help you close more deals, generate more leads and referrals, and have a much better time in the solar industry.
00:02:13
Speaker
Whenever you're listening to this I hope you are locking down lots of deals. Hope you're enjoying the journey. That's what it's all about. Right now we got crazy urgency with the tax credit going away this year.
00:02:24
Speaker
lot of changes coming, in but I believe the future in solar is bright and you should be taking full advantage right now. i don't think we're always going to be able to say that solar is as good as as it is right now.
00:02:36
Speaker
So take full advantage, go all in, and don't treat this lightly. Treat it with the seriousness that it deserves because things are going to be changing. But there's no better time, in my opinion, to be selling solar than right now with all the urges all urgency we got and our reasons to get out there.
00:02:55
Speaker
So we'll jump into the topic and that is um We did the little one day blitz. Some you that follow me on social media, you saw that we in one day woke up at 3.30 a.m., went to catch a flight that was at 6 a.m., flew up to Northern California, worked the whole day, came back that night.
00:03:16
Speaker
And our flight flew out at like 10.30 and up getting back to my house about one in the morning. um by the time we got ah there out of the airport and everything. So was a long day to say the least.
00:03:27
Speaker
And it was exhausting. And I'll be honest, before we left on this one day trip, the night before, I was looking for every reason to not show up, to cancel it. I'm like, ah yeah, I don't think that's worth it. I'm just going to go sell in my local area.
00:03:43
Speaker
um but I had already bought the flight. already committed to other people. I was going, um had one of my newer guys going out. So needed to support him. I'm like, okay, I gotta do this.
00:03:54
Speaker
Um, the night before I didn't get back 11 o'clock or something, closing other

Overcoming Setbacks and Achieving Success

00:04:00
Speaker
deals. So, um, ran off about three hours of sleep, woke up and flew up, flew up, worked, um, being pretty exhausted. and Hey, but I learned some lessons. And um the good part of it is yeah it was a good experience. We ended up closing three deals while we were up there, went which is me, one of my newer guys, and then another guy on our team.
00:04:24
Speaker
And we all got a deal while we're up there. So I felt super grateful about that. I didn't want to be where one of us got a deal and then the other two went home feeling disappointed. But we all got a deal.
00:04:36
Speaker
we We did have a few appointments lined up. The reason we went up there in the first place because JP, one of the guys on our team, he yeah had previously worked some of the areas up there. And he's like, guys, these areas, um they're pretty good. I had success with them in the past. Let's go try it. So we're like, okay whatever. We'll go try it out.
00:04:53
Speaker
And then he had supposedly lined up a bunch of appointments during the day. i was going to help out with a few of them. We got there and almost every appointment fell through that we we had that day. We're supposed to have one that they confirmed twice.
00:05:06
Speaker
This should have been, it was a referral, should have been a easier close. We went and right as we were driving up to the home, she texted to cancel. Could have been because JP, he texted, hey, I've got my supervisor that's coming. And I think that he said the supervisor supervisor was coming she thought that she was gonna get closed down or something so she just canceled it um so started out like that and i'm like oh my gosh all right we got nothing now um just gonna be out knocking all day long on three hours of sleep and had some negative thoughts creep in my mind but i tried to just get him out as quick as possible i'm like you know what
00:05:44
Speaker
We sacrificed time away from family. We paid money to be up here for a day. Can't really control that. But what we can control is what we do next. And that is we're going to go out and grind.
00:05:54
Speaker
We're going to go out there with urgency. We're going to set same day appointments because that's the only option. And that's what we did. We went out, we grinded. We had no other choice but to set same day

The Power of Urgency in Sales

00:06:05
Speaker
appointments. And let me tell you, it's much easier to set in the same day appointment when that's the only option you have.
00:06:10
Speaker
Hey, because we're showing people, hey, we're out here. Today is our last day. This is when we fly out. So we're just wrapping up, helping out the last few people out here. Got a couple spots. So I know you're busy, but we'll just come by with a report. You guys check it out.
00:06:23
Speaker
ah If you don't want to do it, no problem. But we're helping everyone out today. And ah made it a lot easier to set same day appointments. It's funny when you have a reason, when you have urgency in on your head, all of a sudden magically magically becomes easier to set a same day appointment.
00:06:39
Speaker
that proved to me that sometimes it's just we need to have the urgency in ourselves. I hear from guys, oh, I can't set same day appointments. I can't do this. So a lot of times it's because we believe it ourselves. And if we only have the option to set a same day appointment, then that's probably what we're going to do.
00:06:55
Speaker
That's how it happened. Set same two same days that close. Good money on both of those. And we wrapped up. We worked from like 10 a.m. to six or so.
00:07:06
Speaker
And then six, six thirty. Then we went and grabbed ah some nice food and got out of there. Now was a wrap. So should you do a one day blitz? So here's some reasons why it might be a good idea. Okay, I just jotted down a couple

Building Momentum and Experimenting

00:07:21
Speaker
things. If you want to build some new momentum with your team, maybe you're having a slow week, maybe it's worth it to go just fly out or drive couple hours, whatever, just go blitz an area. Okay, it's a great way to build some um momentum with your team, give your guys a little boost.
00:07:38
Speaker
So if you feel that your team needs a little shock to the system, then maybe consider doing a one day blitz like this. OK, another thing, it's good for experimenting with an area. Maybe you've been wanting try an area, but you're like, ah I don't know if it's worth it.
00:07:54
Speaker
It's a long ways away. Maybe you go try it for a day like we did. And when when we got the results back from this one day, you better believe we already booked another Blitz up there, which hit me up if you want to be considered to join.
00:08:06
Speaker
Come i get some some deals some same days with us. We have a link where you can apply to join our next Blitzes. But um it's good for experimenting with it. And you can always do some research. There's sites like citydata.com.
00:08:19
Speaker
and this is ah I'm a big proponent of trying to research areas before you get there, know about the local happenings, local circumstances, reasons why their rates are going up, things like that. It's so helpful to know some data about where you are knocking. And also if you like knocking certain income levels.
00:08:37
Speaker
ah For me, we have a few, you know, Mexican... ah guys that are really good with Mexican areas, ah Spanish neighborhoods. So it's really good to know some of this data beforehand.
00:08:48
Speaker
So could be another great reason to go try a one day blitz. And then the third thing is it's just good for content. Even if you're not trying to create content, maybe you're not really on social media or whatever.
00:09:01
Speaker
Everyone in Solr should be creating content just for their team. yeah So maybe you're not on social media, but you should have team chats. You should have your group meets where you use Pronto on our team.
00:09:12
Speaker
Great tool for a community with the team. But whatever team chat you have, we had a result. We posted pictures of our results with the customers. We're keeping guys interactive during the day. Everyone was kind of like following the journey. Oh my gosh, they woke up 3.30 in the morning, go up there, what's going to happen.
00:09:32
Speaker
And it made it engaging. People wanted to know what was going on. And so we had a lot of people when we got back just from our own company, be like, wow, tell me about this. You guys went up just for one day and you did this.
00:09:43
Speaker
ah Get me in on the next one. So just ah created some hype around what we're doing. um And even the people that didn't come on the Blitz, I would say it's still giving them a boost because they were seeing us, um them just working the local area. They're like, wow, these guys are ground grinding. I'm going to get out there harder today.
00:09:59
Speaker
And I think it gave our whole team a little boost, whether they came on the Blitz or not, just by seeing the content that we created. you don't have to go crazy with that, right? But it's just some photo, video.
00:10:10
Speaker
um Some guys get the whole vlog type and type stuff going. But ah yeah, just some content, simple content can it really help your team stay motivated. And then if you want to take it to an next level, then put the content on social media. You're probably going to get recruits. You're probably gonna get people reaching out to you.
00:10:27
Speaker
And you're probably going to build hype around what you're doing. If you create engaging stories and content for the people that follow you. So just a few reasons to consider doing a one day blitz.
00:10:38
Speaker
So we traveled about five hours, worked nine hours or so, eight hours. Madel went and grabbed a nice dinner in Chinatown. i'm in San Francisco while we're up there. So that was fun too. So did something fun, i built some rapport with the team, with our guys that came on the blitz.
00:10:56
Speaker
So yeah, hope you can consider doing a blitz like that. um You know, it's probably better doing a longer blitz But ah there's some solid reasons why maybe you want to consider just doing a one day blitz.
00:11:08
Speaker
Get out there, um just experience it, see if it's worth it going up there again. And if you only have one day to make things happen, then chances are you're going to work a little harder. You're going to push for a same day a little bit more than you would have. And you're going to do things different than if you're just working any other markets. So go try out a one day blitz.
00:11:27
Speaker
Hey, let me know your experience with

Engagement and Future Content

00:11:29
Speaker
it. And the other thing I wanted to ask before we wrap up this this episode, we are actually in a pretty big shortage of needing guests for the show.
00:11:38
Speaker
So please, if you're listening to this, If you've given me a content, please hit me up with your guest recommendations, either at support at solarpreneurs.com, or you can message us over on Instagram at Taylor jm taylor J. Armstrong or Solarpreneur Podcast.
00:11:54
Speaker
ah One of our team members will see it. So please. Let us know if you have any guest suggestions in a little shortage at the moment. And being ah being blunt, it's like I've been grinding. We've been closing lots of deals. So I haven't had the usual time to go out and prospect for new guests to come on the show.
00:12:11
Speaker
So please hit me up with your suggestions as well as topic suggestions. We'd love to hear them so we can keep fresh new content coming in your way every week. But thank you for tuning in the podcast today. Happy selling this
