00:00:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome, welcome, welcome everybody. It's a big, warm, family-friendly hug as we welcome you to the Daily Premier League podcast.
00:00:20
Nick Britten
Thank you.
00:00:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's Thursday, 16th of October. My name's Ken Davis. His name there in the t-shirt is Nick Britton. And you may be wondering why I've asked you all to gather here in the drawing room.
00:00:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, it's to talk about The next tranche of games in the Premier League. The world's most competitive league. Nicholas Britton, how on earth are you doing?
00:00:50
Nick Britten
I think I was quite excited there for a moment that I thought we to ensconced in an Agatha Christie style murder mystery in the drawing room.
00:00:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
We should do that.
00:00:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, who killed Anish Postacoglu?
00:00:59
Nick Britten
But hey, I'm always happy to talk about football.

Personal Anecdote: 'Ken with a Gun'

00:01:02
Nick Britten
let's talk about football.
00:01:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anish Postacoglu killed with the candlestick in the ballroom by some Greek bloke.
00:01:09
Nick Britten
Yeah, well, that'll come after Chelsea's game on Saturday.
00:01:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
in the kebab shop with the skewer.
00:01:13
Nick Britten
Yeah, that'll happen on Saturday. Yeah.
00:01:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, and we'll come up we'll we'll talk about that in a bit. how So how in the Thomas Tuchel are you then, Nick? You feeling good?
00:01:21
Nick Britten
Yeah, very well. I've had a good couple of days in Belfast working. So nice of that.
00:01:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very nice.
00:01:25
Nick Britten
Great city. It's a great city, of Belfast is. So yeah, yeah just got back this afternoon and cast out more of the music.
00:01:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
It is.
00:01:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
True story, Nick, by the way. True story. I went to work in Belfast in the 80s, the height of the troubles. I was offered a gun I was offered a gun for self-protection by a person unnamed.
00:01:44
Nick Britten
By whom?
00:01:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I said no. and Imagine me walking around with me walking around with a gun. Crazy. There you go. Another story, that is. That's another podcast completely.

Return to Premier League Discussion

00:01:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ken with a Gun podcast.
00:01:58
Nick Britten
I think it is. i want know I want to know a bit more.
00:01:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:02:00
Nick Britten
i want to know a bit more. Who offered you the gun? Why? And why did you turn it down?
00:02:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, because I wouldn't be, I think I'd be less safe with it. Anyway, um firstly, before because today we're really going to talk about the games that are coming up at the weekend.
00:02:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
There's football again, Nick. There's Premier League football again. Yeah.
00:02:18
Nick Britten
it's been It's been a long international break, hasn't it? It seems go. It just gets longer longer and longer and longer, these things.
00:02:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, my word. They do.
00:02:23
Nick Britten
it
00:02:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
They do. So we got, by the way, we've quickly run We've got, to obviously, we've got 10 games. got Forrest Chelsea, Ange, who is now on a seat roughly as hot as the insides of a Pop-Tart if you've left it in the microwave for 10 minutes, I reckon.
00:02:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's how hot his hot seat is.
00:02:45
Nick Britten
I don't think you want to be eating a Pop-Tart that's been in the Toaster for 10 minutes here.
00:02:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly my point.
00:02:49
Nick Britten
That's going to burn your mouth out.
00:02:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's going to sting, isn't it? ah We've got Brighton for Newcastle, the battle of the mid-table teams. ah Burnley against Leeds, the battle of the newly promoted. Palace of Bournemouth, the battle of the massively overachieving.
00:03:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Man City against Everton, part one of the Manchester-Liverpool double. Sunderland against Wolves. Are Wolves ever going to win a game? Though they've had a radical, radical improvement in form, going from four straight defeats to two straight draws.
00:03:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fun with the Arsenal. Arsenal top the league. Nobody thought we'd ever say that. Spurs v Villa. Spurs pushing Arsenal all the way. Liverpool against Man Utd, part two of the Manchester against Liverpool double-axe

Debating Players Taking the Knee

00:03:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
this weekend. And finally, the big one, the great big one, that if Sky was doing dynamic pricing on Monday Night Football, they'd each pay us 55 quid to watch it.
00:03:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's West Ham against Brentford. They're the game.
00:03:52
Nick Britten
Very good. Anything catch your eye in that? I don't know if anything does to me. It doesn't sound like very interesting round games to me.
00:03:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Ah, there's some good games, and we're going go through them in a lot of detail. Before before we do that, though, I know there's a couple of things caught your eye news-wise, which I think we need to bring to the attention of our listener.
00:04:10
Nick Britten
Yeah, I think a couple of things. Firstly, I thought this had gone away. But on Saturday and Friday and Sunday and Tuesday and Monday and whenever Premier League games are played in the next round of games, players will be given the opportunity to take the knee again.
00:04:26
Nick Britten
I thought that had all stopped. And I know lots of teams have stopped doing it. I know the England ah women's national team, the Lionesses, stopped doing it after one of their players got racially abused in the summer. And was quite surprised to see that this is back on the agenda.
00:04:43
Nick Britten
Because I don't really understand quite in this day and age, in 2025, after everything that's happened in the last few years, quite what the point of it is, if I'm honest with you. I don't see the, I think it's an empty gesture. I think it's linked to a movement that has been widely discredited and,
00:04:58
Nick Britten
We all want to kick racism out of football and we all want to to to do the right thing. i have no indication that taking the knee and indeed other race racially um ah ah anti-racist groups, if you like, like Kick It Out and and and groups like that, they don't really even see the benefit of it.
00:05:19
Nick Britten
So I don't really know why it's being done. I don't really know what they expect it to achieve. ah That's what we might say.
00:05:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:25
Nick Britten
We're going throw back to the twenty twenty s ah early But it's just i mean ah the the world's moved moved on. It was all brought in in a massive kind of rush and it was a fad and i was never convinced that it was done for the right reasons or done in the right way anyway. It was just done because everybody else was doing it and football wanted to be seen to be joining in or didn't want to be seen to be left out. i don't know quite what the reasons were.
00:05:54
Nick Britten
and but Anyway, we're

Premier League Salary Cap Debate

00:05:58
Nick Britten
going to see it again on Saturday. So we'll see players taking the knee on Saturday and no doubt everybody will go, was very good. Thanks very much. Can we please get on with the game?
00:06:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I kind of agree. ah Look, you know, none of us wants to see a scrap of racism anywhere near football. We don't want to see that. and But is this going to make any difference? on that I don't know. I suppose it does get us talking about race.
00:06:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
And anything gets us talking about race can't be a bad thing in relation to football.
00:06:28
Nick Britten
But
00:06:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
At the end of the day, a very huge, I think a significant majority
00:06:34
Nick Britten
we know we don't but we know we know, don't we? We know that football racism is not football issue.
00:06:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, we know a race is not a football issue. I agree with that. But it's a high-profile sport. And it's therefore, in the context of raising awareness, it's got a role to play in all these things. I think it does have a role to play in these things.
00:06:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not sure taking the knee. if Taking the knee just feels a little bit 2022 to me. ah If they want to tackle this issue, do it in a fresh way. I don't think this is going to be something that people look at and think, oh, blimey, you know what?
00:07:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe I should rethink my racist views based on the fact they're kneeling down. ah tell I don't think if they want to, if they really seriously want to do that, don't think This isn't the answer.
00:07:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, ah yeah, I'm a bit confused as to why they've decided to reinstate this and bring this back. Because I don't think, I think people are, actually, it's going to be counterproductive, is what I'm really.
00:07:31
Nick Britten
Well, there's risk in here, isn't there? There's risk in the current climate. In the current climate of society here in the UK, there is risk that actually it could spark a wave of negative reaction on social media, in the stands, at certain places across the country.
00:07:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think I think it will.
00:07:51
Nick Britten
And that's what that just what we don't want.
00:07:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it will. Yeah, agree. I think it will. I think it runs runs ah ah say it runs a chance of being counterproductive. I think it would have been far better, I think, if they wanted to raise this issue again, to raise it in a different way, where people maybe look at these things in a fresh way. But this isn't, I don't think this is the way to do it. And I'm surprised they've done it.
00:08:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is it compulsory or is it optional?
00:08:17
Nick Britten
No, it's optional. So you might see some doing it, some not. I don't know whether...
00:08:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's just crap, isn't it? You know?
00:08:22
Nick Britten
Well, it just doesn't... There's so many other things they can do and so many other things clubs can do. They are limited, obviously, because by the very nature of racist chanting and that kind of thing, policing of it always has to be reactive.
00:08:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
and we did see some of it this season, haven't we?
00:08:35
Nick Britten
But...
00:08:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
We saw some of some of it in Liverpool, first game of the season against Bournemouth.
00:08:39
Nick Britten
Well, Anton Semenya got racially abused at Liverpool and they and they got the guy and they chucked him out and didn't actually hear what happened to him afterwards, but hopefully he's had a lifetime ban.
00:08:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah.
00:08:49
Nick Britten
And that that's pretty much, apart from trying to educate people, apart from making stadium announcements, apart from... i would I would be looking for for players and managers to be doing a bit more media on this rather than taking a knee before two seconds before kick-off.
00:09:05
Nick Britten
You can do things in the ground and ah just it just feels that The room hasn't been read well enough, I don't think. If you look at the room of modern society at the moment and everything that's going on in politics, everything that's going on, and this isn't just the UK, it's elsewhere as well.
00:09:24
Nick Britten
It just feels like this isn't the wrong time to do the wrong thing.
00:09:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, wouldn't disagree with that.

Sponsorship and Promotions

00:09:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the second thing we were talking about off air before we started the episode was the Premier League looking to introduce a salary cap, which is a very interesting development.
00:09:45
Nick Britten
Yes, this is very interesting. Now, I'm going to go away and do a bit more research on this because the way it's been reported in various media outlets today, it can mean lots of different things. People ah people are reporting it in a different way.
00:09:56
Nick Britten
Some are reporting it as a kind of salary cap. Some are reporting it very good. that your salary cap, is it?
00:10:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's my salary.
00:10:02
Nick Britten
Probably it cost a month's salary just to buy it, did it?
00:10:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
My salary, fam.
00:10:05
Nick Britten
This is a celery gap here. Some people are saying it's going to replace PSR. Some are saying, no, it won't replace PSR. It's basically, it's just essentially the amount of money that you can spend on squad. going to have to dig down into this. But essentially what we do know is that next month, the Premier League teams will vote on whether to introduce further financial strictures, which will see them being able to only spend, it's called an anchor, top to bottom anchor, ah they can only spend five times on their football squad costs than the bottom club's earnings.
00:10:42
Nick Britten
So you look what the bottom club earns in terms of revenue, in terms of broadcasting and that kind of stuff. And maximum any other club in the Premier League could spend is five times that i amount. i don't I don't really understand the point of it. I quite like a free market.
00:10:59
Nick Britten
ah There are concerns already being raised that it will damage the Premier League. We know that the Premier League is is the most popular sporting export in the world. We know that people love the the players love coming here because they get paid so much money.
00:11:10
Nick Britten
But by the fact that coming here creates a great league, what you don't want is to presumably try and strangle that and make teams on the continent who pay who pay much lower wages a more attractive opposition. We want the best players playing in this country because it's the best league in the world. So do you really want Bayern Munich or Barcelona, these sorts of clubs that can't compete with, say, Manchester City on wages or Arsenal or Liverpool, do you want them to be able to compete on wages or do you want to keep the best talent in the Premier League?
00:11:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's interesting perspective. um we It's quite a parochial point of view in the sense that we are protecting our our asset. Now, what it is really And I look across the water here to the NFL because the NFL have a similar system.
00:12:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think the Premier League looks at the NFL slightly enviously in certain aspects. And I will, I will expand on that theory in a second. Uh, essentially what the NFL does, they have, they have a salary cap and that it works extremely well and it's extremely rigorously endorsed or enforced, I should say.
00:12:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
And, uh, And what it does, and what I think the the Premier League is trying to do with this, is to equalise competition. If you look at the winners of the Super Bowl over the course of the last 20 years, it's nearly every team.
00:12:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
up With a couple of exceptions, like this one.
00:12:50
Nick Britten
by Like your one, like your Cincinnati Bengals.
00:12:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. But
00:12:54
Nick Britten
Your hat. Yeah.
00:12:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah and but but but but it is essentially ah competition where the worst... can become the best in about three years. and there And there's two things that make that happen.
00:13:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Three things that make that happen. Firstly, the draft. We don't have a draft in football. So the worst team gets the best players in the draft. The second thing is the salary cap.
00:13:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
So no one can outspend anyone else.
00:13:21
Nick Britten
you
00:13:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
And ah the third thing is actually the fixtures, the worst teams get the easiest fixtures. That's the way they equalise. That's why it's an incredibly competitive thing and lots of teams have a chance.
00:13:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the Premier League looks at that and thinks we could learn something from that because we don't really have that. With very few exceptions, we have a relatively narrow concentration of teams that really can win it.
00:13:54
Nick Britten
Thank
00:13:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
And i think I think the Premier League look at that and say, actually, that's a weakness. So that is, I understand their reasoning. Their difference, which alludes to your point, is that the NFL in America is a monopoly.
00:14:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
You're not going to go to the Mexican FL or the Canadian FL, though they both exist. But that's not the case with the Premier League. It's not a monopoly. The European leagues are close to being as competitive.
00:14:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think what this is, is this tension... of the Premier League wanting to try and equalise the competition, and this is, if you like, another step, just like they the rules are around and which money you can spend on transfers, this is another step along that equalisation process.
00:14:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, as you say, they've got to be very careful because, actually, it might mean that our teams, in the context of the European competition, get progressively weaker.
00:14:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, that's my lesson for the day from the pulpit on that.
00:15:01
Nick Britten
It's a very, very interesting point of view. And I think it absolutely has merit. It absolutely has

Predictions and Match Analysis

00:15:06
Nick Britten
merit. So we'll see where this goes.
00:15:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah,
00:15:09
Nick Britten
The vote's taking place on November 21st. We know that two clubs, Manchester City and Manchester United, are already going vote against it. So there's 18 to go. They need 14 to pass it.
00:15:21
Nick Britten
It'll be very interesting to see how the big clubs vote and whether there's any consistency in how they vote set against how the smaller clubs vote.
00:15:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah it will be.
00:15:31
Nick Britten
is it going to be Is it going to be tactical voting? Is it going to be political voting? Or...
00:15:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
But got feeling it's a kind of a direction of travel we're going along. I think we'll see it recur and recur and recur until it gets through. Anyway, as we know in football, as Thomas Tuchel definitely knows,
00:15:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
It pays to get your team selection right. Here at Global Sports Podcast Network, we spent a lot of time, oh, God, did we? Selecting our delivery partner. 00:16:15
Global Sports Podcast Network

00:16:28
Nick Britten
just shaking my head. That's all I can do. i can just shake my head.
00:16:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going play this.
00:16:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
By the way, if you want to get in contact with us and do it because we're lonely, there's only me and Nick in DPL Towers. So send it over to dailypremierleagepodcast at gmail.com. We'll read them with interest. Right.
00:16:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ten games to get through. What I'm looking for, Nick, is your, well, the superb punditry that you offer us every day on each of these games, culminating in a decision as to whether it's going to be a home win, a draw, or an away victory. a away victory Firstly, it's a what many people see as a crucial match for Ange.
00:17:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
First against Chelsea...
00:17:25
Nick Britten
Right, I'm going to stop you there. I'm going to just stop you. Don't start this already. You've had two weeks to come to a slightly more common... No, put your pipe away.
00:17:36
Nick Britten
Don't get your pipe out and start sucking on it. You've had two weeks to come to a sensible point of view on this, which is my view, by the way, which is it is too early...
00:17:49
Nick Britten
For Nottingham Forest to sack Ange Postacoglu. So if they lose against Chelsea, and they probably will, although you never know quite which Chelsea team are going to turn up. And we talked about we talked about the yeah the the really, really, really big loss that Cole Palmer is.
00:17:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
that's the truth.
00:18:05
Nick Britten
But ah Chelsea, you kind of still expect to win. I don't know. kind of quite fancy Forest for this one. ah But even then, even if they lose... He will still be in a job.
00:18:16
Nick Britten
Okay? He will be given time. He'll be given time to get this right. Or more time to not get it right. But right here, right now, his job, I think, is safe.
00:18:29
Nick Britten
And you've got to start.
00:18:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right.
00:18:30
Nick Britten
I can't start every podcast with you going, and just going to get sacked tomorrow. I'm just going to get sacked.
00:18:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
We have remarkable foresight on these things though, don't we?
00:18:40
Nick Britten
Well, yeah, but I mean, look, it's the old it's the old stop clocks right twice a day, isn't it? So eventually, if it's every day, you will be right.
00:18:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
no No, it's not. Well, let's put you to the test. Do you think Ange will still be the manager of Nottingham Forest on January Okay, I don't think he will.
00:18:52
Nick Britten
Yes, do.
00:18:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
So let's watch that space.
00:18:57
Nick Britten
Right, so can we just like stop talking about it until then?
00:18:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah what something Until he gets sacked, obviously we can talk about it.
00:19:01
Nick Britten
until Until, obviously, it might happen it might happen before then.
00:19:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Until the week on Monday when he's sacked.
00:19:03
Nick Britten
If it does, we'll talk about it. But no, I think it'll be. Because i actually think forest will get better.
00:19:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, and what do you reckon this game's result might be?
00:19:12
Nick Britten
I think they've got a great chance. I think they'll take something out of this game. Will they win it? think this might be it. Maybe this is the turning point. I don't know. I think the international break came a really good time for both Ernst Pascoglio and Forrest, just to give everybody a bit of breathing space, a bit of downtime, media spotlight turns away.
00:19:32
Nick Britten
And hopefully he's had a chance to, i mean, I know obviously a lot of the players are on international duty, but he's had a chance to work with some players to sort his
00:19:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Chris Wood got injured. Chris Wood limped off in the New Zealand game.
00:19:43
Nick Britten
Yeah, but I'm not sure Chris Wood should be playing.
00:19:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he's not playing very well.
00:19:46
Nick Britten
I don't think he suits the way Ange plays and he's he's been missing chances left, right and center. I was very surprised he was in the team actually in the last game. So i don't I wouldn't worry too much about that. ah we they They spent a lot of time and effort getting Igor Jesus over the line.
00:19:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Shall we go up?
00:20:00
Nick Britten
It's about time he was given a run of the team. let's see what we can do. So, no, I don't. And Chelsea, yeah, there's a lot of there's a lot of sort of up and downs with Chelsea at the moment, isn't there? ah ah You never know. You never know which Chelsea is going to turn up. Is it going to be a turn the that turned up and beat Liverpool um um and was thrilling and it was exciting and played really, really well?
00:20:24
Nick Britten
Or is it the team that turned up before that and lost 3-1 at home to Brighton?
00:20:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, I think they had a few injuries. I think the international break has probably come at a good time for them to get themselves straightened out. i Personally, i think i'm I'm looking forward to a Chelsea win.
00:20:42
Nick Britten
Okay, I'm going to go the other way. going to go home win. It's
00:20:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Home win for Nick, away win for Ken.
00:20:47
Nick Britten
going to have to happen sooner later.
00:20:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
wrong Yeah, what will happen if he doesn't?
00:20:49
Nick Britten
He's going to have to win a game sooner or later.
00:20:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm, I wonder... Right. Brighton v Newcastle. Brighton, a decent run of form. ah Though just saved a point against the Mighty Wolves last time.
00:21:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're lucky to do that. Newcastle, they're developing a bit of momentum, I thought. Did the international break come at the wrong time for Newcastle?
00:21:10
Nick Britten
Yeah.
00:21:13
Nick Britten
No, I don't think so. It's it's just another... Because think about this. Volta Marder went out and scored for Germany. Anthony Gordon went out scored for England. They'll come back full of beans. It's another week where you don't have a game that they're missing.
00:21:24
Nick Britten
Johan Wisser, as he's trying to fight his way back to fitness, so that's that's good. They need time. No, I think it was i think it's fine. ah They are... that Yeah, they're playing well. I mean, they lost to Arsenal, but it was close.
00:21:36
Nick Britten
They've won the last two games since then, one in the Champions League, one in the Premier League. They beat Forest quite comfortably. They'll give Brighton a good game. Yeah, Brian, a good game. Should be good game, this one. two good Two good sides, i think
00:21:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, difficult to beat at Brighton. Long way to travel from Newcastle. you know I know they're not on the bikes, but I mean, it's long way.
00:21:54
Nick Britten
I think. It's 2025. They'll get plane.
00:21:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:56
Nick Britten
It's like a 45-minute plane journey. It's not a long way to travel.
00:21:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:00
Nick Britten
It's a long way to travel if you're a supporter.
00:22:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:02
Nick Britten
Yeah, cause but if you if you're not if you're a player, then it's not really very far, is it?
00:22:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Probably not. What about jet lag, though? You haven't factored in jet lag, have you?
00:22:16
Nick Britten
I
00:22:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
So what you reckon is the result going to be
00:22:22
Nick Britten
don't know. don't know. Hard one to call.
00:22:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right.
00:22:26
Nick Britten
Hard one to call because you can see you can see anything. You can see any any any of the three permutations are quite viable. So i'll I can see Newcastle winning away.
00:22:38
Nick Britten
I can see Brighton winning at home. I can see it drawing. So I will i'll go down the middle and go for this go for a score draw.
00:22:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Score draw. I'm going for a home victory. Burnley against Leeds. Burnley, I mean, they're on a poor run of form. They've got one point out the last 15. fifteen
00:22:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, you know, there's, I mean, Parker was you interviewed and set and said it was, you know, he's pretty optimistic and But the BBC are are doing an interesting analysis at the moment about XG.
00:23:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Burnley of the poorest offence, if you look at XG in terms of the amount of XGs allowed, and the poorest attack in the sense of they're not creating many XGs, expected goals.
00:23:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Leeds have adapted well. ah They've got real belief that they're going staying up. So... Two championship teams last year. Tough games last year. How did you see this one going?
00:23:43
Nick Britten
I think Leeds will win it. I'll go for an away win. I think they're hit in good form. Burnley just haven't got enough in them. I don't think. I think what we'll see is Burnley just from... They need to get points early on the board. That's that's what they've done and they haven't done that. If you look at the last five games, including the League Cup, lost to Liverpool, drew with Forest, lost to Cardiff, lost to Man City, lost to Aston Villa.
00:24:04
Nick Britten
And have it...
00:24:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
going one way.
00:24:05
Nick Britten
becomes a habit losing these games and it becomes very, very difficult and they don't have enough up top. So their only hope is to keep clean sheets and clean sheets and clean sheets and they're not doing that.
00:24:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
no
00:24:16
Nick Britten
So their their their defense is both poor and porous.
00:24:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nicely done. ah Okay, so you're going for an away victory. I'm going for a draw. I think it's going to be a nil-nil, actually. think this one's got nil-nil written all over it.
00:24:31
Nick Britten
It may well do. i mean, i um ah kind of um the one of the reasons I'm going for a Leeds win is because I keep tipping them not to win and they win. Although I did tip them to lose against Tottenham and they did. but but a couple of so And they are playing better than like I think they they're playing better than they were at the start of the season. I think they're coming into form. So, yeah, I expect them to be a 1-0 or something like that.
00:24:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it'd be a low-scoring Next one, Palace against Bournemouth. Right, two scintillating football teams. You know, they really are great on the eye. Again, just going back to this XG thing, Man City ah right at the top in terms of creating excellent chances, high levels of XG. So are Palace.
00:25:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
But of course, Bournemouth, Semenyo on fire. But Bournemouth are lot more than just Semenyo. They're an outstand outstanding football team, very well managed. ah this could be anything. I'm really looking forward to this game.
00:25:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Really looking forward to this. to highlight games, to think, of the weekend. How do you think
00:25:29
Nick Britten
I totally agree with It's two of the form teams in the division, two the surprise packages of the division, and two teams that are playing great football. And i play really easy on the eye, good football, if if they if the can, if they turn up and play.
00:25:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
to happen?
00:25:42
Nick Britten
So it could be a cracker. It could be a cracker. We hope it is.
00:25:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And what do you reckon result-wise?
00:25:54
Nick Britten
I don't know.
00:25:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tricky what?
00:25:56
Nick Britten
i don't know. Yeah, again, it's just hard.
00:25:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm? Hmm.
00:25:59
Nick Britten
um i mean One of the reasons it's so hard is because I keep getting these things wrong. So um' I'm sort of second trying second guess myself and almost decide what I think is the right one and then sort of do the opposite. So, well, nothing works.
00:26:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
That rarely works, Nick.
00:26:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now having said that, actually, yeah your actual predictions rarely work. So I suppose there is...
00:26:18
Nick Britten
Exactly that, yeah, exactly that.
00:26:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:26:22
Nick Britten
Palace will win. Home advantage, I think.
00:26:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:26:24
Nick Britten
Home advantage, you'll see them get over the line here.
00:26:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, I'm going for a draw. By the way, in the first four games, we have disagreed on every single result.

Liverpool vs. Man Utd: Historical and Current Analysis

00:26:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Man City against Everton. Obviously, Man City starting to hit some form. Top scorers in the Premier League, 15 goals in seven games.
00:26:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Against Everton with a pretty solid defence. They've only conceded seven in seven. Man City at home... You know, they've got the alien up front.
00:26:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah They've got players. you know I just think they've got the full of attacking options. I can't say anything beyond a home victory, I'm afraid. What what about you, Nick?
00:27:03
Nick Britten
Yeah, I'd agree with that. I'd agree. I'd like to think Everton will give them a good game. Everton are better this season. They ended Palace's very, very, very long unbeaten run last time out.
00:27:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
You
00:27:14
Nick Britten
But you can't see past Haaland. That's the problem.
00:27:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
can't see past home.
00:27:17
Nick Britten
You just can't see past mean, you can't see past him.
00:27:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
And...
00:27:19
Nick Britten
He's bloody massive. But it's just whilst he's in the team... But you know what? Burnley pushed them for a while, for an hour. Burnley were really in the game.
00:27:30
Nick Britten
And ah wonder sometimes whether the Etihad is an easier place to play Man City than if you're playing them at home.
00:27:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree with that. That's an interesting point. Because it's quiet.
00:27:42
Nick Britten
So, yeah, it's quiet and there's so much expectation. Everybody's just sitting back going, right, come on, score five goals. And Everson are playing well. It might be a close game, this. I hope they can give them a close game.
00:27:54
Nick Britten
But I think ultimately Man City will win.
00:27:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. I see a 3-1. Two late goals. That kind of thing. Seems typical for Man City. Sunderland against Wolves. Now, Wolves... Sorry, Sunderland have had it pretty decent start. They've got a good defence. It's all built around a good defence. And they've jacker in the middle of the park.
00:28:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Stubborn. They've got a fantastic goalkeeper. We've talked about him a number of times. and we We do rate him very highly. Wolves... Wolves' season... really depends on the next two games. A lot of it does. you Sunderland away, Burnley at home.
00:28:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, you got you've got to get four points out of that. Absolutely vital. And they are improving, as we talked about earlier. They are slightly more competitive.
00:28:37
Nick Britten
They are, and they've come very close to winning. they haven't won a game this season. They played seven, zero wins, a couple of draws. But those draws, I mean, the one against Tottenham, they were won up 94th, 95th minute, Tottenham equalised. They were seconds away from from winning that game.
00:28:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:28:53
Nick Britten
They are getting better. Yeah.
00:28:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, they are. um And the same against Brighton. I mean, they conceded late in that game against Brighton.
00:29:00
Nick Britten
They did, yes.
00:29:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, in the 80-yard minutes.
00:29:00
Nick Britten
Not as late, but late nonetheless, yeah.
00:29:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, they are improving.
00:29:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And I've just got a feeling, I was quite disappointed with Sunderland in the last game against Man United.
00:29:13
Nick Britten
So was I.
00:29:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I know...
00:29:14
Nick Britten
Yeah, I expected them. I thought, well, I think, I mean, I put down the prediction. I thought they'd to Old Trafford and win. I expected them to go out and play play good football.
00:29:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, we've built them up.
00:29:21
Nick Britten
But actually, they were they were poor and Man United played well.
00:29:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but i think I think he got his he got his formation wrong. I think it's probably a little more solid. it so it's ah It's a place difficult place to go and win.
00:29:34
Nick Britten
It's more straightforward. It's more straightforward for Sunderland. A home game against Wolves, isn't it?
00:29:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
is Yes, it is. So what are you going for?
00:29:41
Nick Britten
Home win.
00:29:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Home win. I'm not sure. I'm going to go for a draw. I'm go to go for a draw. I just think we'll...
00:29:47
Nick Britten
I think for Wolves, I think Sunderland will be too good for them. But the Burnley game for Wolves is absolutely massive.
00:29:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Massive. It is massive. It is massive. I just think Wolves, I don't think Sunderland score many. And if Wolves can get an early goal, I think, I think he'd get something out of that game.
00:30:07
Nick Britten
No.
00:30:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right. Fulham Arsenal. Fulham, always difficult to beat at home. Arsenal are starting to, are starting to look like the best team in the league. They do look like the best team league. starting look it. They've just got an array of talent and they seem to be clicking.
00:30:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Uh,
00:30:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Can you see anything but an Arsenal victory? Fair
00:30:30
Nick Britten
no
00:30:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
enough. That was a short Um...
00:30:35
Nick Britten
yeah i think I think they'll be just too good for Fulham. I don't i ah just don't see any way Fulham are going to get and anything out of this game.
00:30:44

00:31:41
Nick Britten
When I was in Belfast last night, by the way, when was in Belfast last night, I had some very nice Guinness.
00:31:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
31 minutes.
00:31:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Someone off your go.
00:31:49
Nick Britten
I don't care what they say. I don't care what they say. It is a it is it is a really old cliche. it's ah But the Guinness always tastes nicer, whether you're Northern Ireland or or Southern Republic.
00:31:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, yeah.
00:32:00
Nick Britten
Guinness always tastes nicer.
00:32:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:32:01
Nick Britten
And when I was drinking it last night, it felt like it was full of nutrients. Talking about nutrients, it felt like my Guinness was full of nutrients, yeah.
00:32:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:32:09
Nick Britten
It didn't this morning when I woke up.
00:32:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. I know.
00:32:11
Nick Britten
was all I had say.
00:32:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I bet your body was unique when you woke up.
00:32:14
Nick Britten
But last night when the Guinness was going out,
00:32:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I bet it was. bet you needed a 40% discount. ah
00:32:19
Nick Britten
It's very nice.
00:32:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right. Okay. Okay, we should get more than 40% in the We should be running this. Anyway, so that was Saturday. There were the seven games on Saturday. There's two games on Sunday, and there's one game on Monday.
00:32:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
The first game on Sunday, Spurs v Villa. I think this is a really good test for both teams. And this is another low-key, interesting game of the weekend, I think.
00:32:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because I don't believe Spurs, really. I don't believe.
00:32:47
Nick Britten
Don't believe them what what when they...
00:32:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
i really i don't we like sign the course I don't believe they exist. No, I do believe they exist. But I don't believe they're a top 16. I don't.
00:32:55
Nick Britten
Why? Why not? On the basis that the table has them in, what position are they in the captain's table?
00:32:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just... Yeah. 16?
00:33:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
that is six
00:33:05
Nick Britten
Third. So you're trying to tell me that the Premier League lies.
00:33:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm saying it's a very small sample size. And I think when all the shakeout is done, when we look at this in 20 games in, don't think they'll be in third. I think Villa on a bit of a roll.
00:33:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think though, coming back to the point made Newcastle, you know, did the international break come at the wrong time for Villa? Because they've got this momentum going and they're starting to look like a team. Um,
00:33:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I think it's a great test for both teams. And I think I've got a feeling Villa are going to beat them.
00:33:43
Nick Britten
Do you?
00:33:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes.
00:33:44
Nick Britten
o Interesting. Interesting.
00:33:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think i I think Villa has suddenly found their mojo.
00:33:53
Nick Britten
I don't think Villa score enough goals yet. That's the problem they've got. I mean, obviously they didn't score any goals for ages, did they? So I suppose you could argue they're a little upturned form.
00:33:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:34:01
Nick Britten
But they've only scored, what, I think six goals all season? And...
00:34:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but they didn't score any for the first five games or whatever.
00:34:09
Nick Britten
Yeah, yeah. But it doesn't just, I don't think, i don't they are getting better. I don't think they're going to be good enough to beat Tottenham. Again, Tottenham, you're just not quite sure what they're going to do how they're going to turn out.
00:34:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
They can do sturdy things, can't they? Out the blue.
00:34:23
Nick Britten
They can, yeah, yeah, yeah. They're quite a difficult team to predict.
00:34:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
going to lose 3-0.
00:34:28
Nick Britten
But no, I don't, I'm not going to agree with you when it comes, i don't think Villa are going to win. I think Tottenham are going to win.
00:34:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fair enough. um Big game, obviously. Liverpool-Munited used to be the...
00:34:42
Nick Britten
Well, used to be a good game. It used to big game. Now it's between two quite dull sides who aren't doing very well.
00:34:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, this is... I'm looking forward to this. I'm really looking forward to this game.
00:34:50
Nick Britten
I don't think I am too. There's better games going on this weekend.
00:34:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, I am. I am. I really am. Because I want to find out what... I still don't know Liverpool are yet. I thought they were champions-elect after four games.
00:35:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Then realised after seven games... you know, they're Burnley-elect. And so I can't quite make my mind up about Liverpool. and Every game that goes, every game Liverpool play, I find interesting because I think we learn more about them.
00:35:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we learn more about the weaknesses.
00:35:18
Nick Britten
um
00:35:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Obviously, United had a good performance, all OK, against a badly set-out Sunderland team. But they looked full of beans. Full of beans. Yeah.
00:35:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah So I think this is could this has got all the makings of a bit of a classic. I think there'll be loads of goals. So...
00:35:42
Nick Britten
I think... You're talking this up a bit too much, to be honest.
00:35:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no, no, I think it's going to be a classic. For all the wrong reasons...
00:35:49
Nick Britten
Well, Manchester United have never won two games on the trot under Ruben Amarin.
00:35:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Heather!
00:35:54
Nick Britten
No.
00:35:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, I'm going to ruin it.
00:35:55
Nick Britten
No, obviously ever under Ruben Amarin. You fool. ah
00:35:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ha-ha!
00:35:59
Nick Britten
And so why would they suddenly start doing it now? I don't think they will.
00:36:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
We can do it one day, aren't they we? We've got to do it one day.
00:36:05
Nick Britten
I don't know.
00:36:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's not he's not going to have his whole career at Man United.
00:36:07
Nick Britten
not sure.
00:36:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's never won two games on the bounce.
00:36:10
Nick Britten
Well, they might do because he might be out before Ange.
00:36:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
He hasn't even had one win on the bounce.
00:36:17
Nick Britten
Yeah, look, I don't... I'm not convinced... this is going to be a good game at all. I think i think it's it's going to be two teams that feel like they have to win the game.
00:36:29
Nick Britten
Manchester have to win the game because they ah they they haven't won two games on a trial. Liverpool's form is faltering. So I think it could be quite cagey affair because knowing that you have to win a game normally starts with knowing that you don't have to you can't lose it.
00:36:44
Nick Britten
And if you can't if you know that you just cannot lose it it tends to lead to kind of cagey performances a bit...
00:36:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't think Liverpool do cagey.
00:36:52
Nick Britten
nobody nobody risks opening no but they can do not very good
00:36:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't think Liverpool can do cagey.
00:36:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
They can do not very good, but that's that's just that's their normal game, just not that.
00:37:03
Nick Britten
good we've been talking about we've been talking about the international break and yeah has it suited players has it not well Alexander Izak has gone away with Sweden and played a couple of games and still hasn't scored a goal so it's not done him any good might help his fitness a bit he's been playing 90 minutes but it'll help his fitness but that's that's pretty much it I don't know if he's going to play tomorrow i sorry on Sunday I think no I wouldn't I wouldn't start him no I wouldn't so it'll be one all
00:37:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, well, no, no.
00:37:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
I wouldn't play him personally.
00:37:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
you You start at Eketiki.
00:37:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
You're going for a draw.
00:37:33
Nick Britten
Yeah, it'll
00:37:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. I mean, the draw is ah is a sensible it's a sensible ah choice, but I don't feel I want to the same as you. I need to be and need to be more decisive than that. i um Who's got to win?
00:37:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Liverpool and Man United. You know what? I'm going to go for a Man United victory.
00:37:55
Nick Britten
be 1-0.
00:37:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:37:56
Nick Britten
Yeah, you've got a real down on Liverpool, haven't you?
00:37:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:37:59
Nick Britten
Generally. mean, you've got a real down on them. You just don't think.
00:38:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think i think I think they've weakened significantly over summer.
00:38:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I just think that they're not a team at the moment. i think they're all I think, going back to the Arnie Slott thing, I mean, the yeah they do feel like a team in transition and they shouldn't do.
00:38:19
Nick Britten
Yeah, they are. Well, no, well why shouldn't they? Well, why shouldn't they? Because they've brought in five, six plays?
00:38:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but so is every team. So is every team.
00:38:27
Nick Britten
No, they haven't.
00:38:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
But they've all...
00:38:27
Nick Britten
No, no, no, I don't know. I disagree with you on that.
00:38:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Every team's got that kind of play.
00:38:30
Nick Britten
No, think they are.
00:38:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Couldn't

Podcast Wrap-up and Future Content

00:38:32
Nick Britten
I think they are a team in transition. Why shouldn't they be when they brought in
00:38:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
they, though?
00:38:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because they ran away with the Premier League last year and then went and spent a third of a billion pounds on um topping up the talent pool.
00:38:46
Nick Britten
No, they didn't just top up the talent pool, did they? Because they've replaced a lot of players who have left. So they've rejigged their entire, you their front line looks nothing like it's done the last two years. They've let Darwin Nunes go. They've let um ah Ruben Diaz go.
00:39:00
Nick Britten
ah Diego Jota, we know what happened ah tragically. they've had to, they've theyve redone their front line.
00:39:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
You don't have to.
00:39:06
Nick Britten
brought in XGK, they've brought Izak, they've brought in Florian Wurtz. ah So Mo Salah is the only, only player who plays in that front, entire front of Liverpool who was there last season.
00:39:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
You don't have to.
00:39:19
Nick Britten
So, yeah they the Trent Alexander-Arnold willingly, he chose to leave, ah so he needed replacing.
00:39:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:39:27
Nick Britten
And Andy Robertson is getting on in age. He's had a brilliant career, he's very good player, but he's getting on in age. So,
00:39:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
still playing, are we?
00:39:33
Nick Britten
but i well, he isn't, but I don't know.
00:39:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I still, I personally would.
00:39:40
Nick Britten
would probably have him in team at moment because I think Kirkus is having a nightmare.
00:39:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:39:43
Nick Britten
So, i disagree with the fact that all they've done is top the talent pool up.
00:39:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:39:47
Nick Britten
I don't think they have. I think they've they've they've actively gone into a period of transition. But the problem is, that hasn't been sort of that narrative hasn't been played out at all.
00:39:59
Nick Britten
and they start ah And they start the season so well, they've won lots of games. So, everybody just assumed... kind of what you assume, which is, oh well they're just topping sopping it up and it's going to be a seamless transition. It doesn't really work like that. Yeah, it's great if it does, but it doesn't really work like that.
00:40:14
Nick Britten
So I think Liverpool are in a transitionary period at the moment.
00:40:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think... I think...
00:40:17
Nick Britten
Now, we don't know how long that transitionary period is going to last. It might last three weeks. It might last three months. We just don't know. Sooner or later, the majority of those good players, maybe not all, but the majority of them will start doing what they've been brought to do Might be too late by then.
00:40:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:40:32
Nick Britten
We don't know. but I think it's wrong to suggest that they should just, this is just a continuation of last season and they've gone backwards. I think, i just think that's quite a, that's just the wrong word.
00:40:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, they think they have come back with. No one can disagree that they've not gone backwards.
00:40:44
Nick Britten
Yeah. No, but you the reasons you're saying that they've gone backwards are wrong. because you're sick because you're because you're trying to Because you're trying to make out that they've had all they had all this brilliant team last year and they've just brought in more players on top of that and therefore how how could they possibly be worse?
00:40:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, they've gone backwards.
00:41:02
Nick Britten
But that's not the reality of what's happened, is it?
00:41:05
Nick Britten
No, it isn't.
00:41:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well...
00:41:05
Nick Britten
I'm not sure you want to look it look like our ear hat that's not what's happened.
00:41:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Really?
00:41:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Really?
00:41:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's not what's happened. And what I'm saying is it should have been different. It should have had a different outcome.
00:41:16
Nick Britten
Why?
00:41:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the fact it hasn't had different
00:41:17
Nick Britten
um why why should it have it Why should it have had a different outcome? What outcome should it have had?
00:41:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because you've got that talent pool. you've got that thing You've added to it to the tune of ah quarter of a million quarter of a billion pounds and a bit more change on top of that.
00:41:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't think the fact that they've suffered this, particularly in defence, they've suffered this loss of form. I don't think we should give a free pass and say, well, it's all right.
00:41:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's part the transition.
00:41:45
Nick Britten
No, nobody's giving him a free pass.
00:41:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Don't agree.
00:41:46
Nick Britten
Nobody's giving him a free pass at all. But I just don't see how it was ever going to be. It would have taken an extraordinary set of circumstances for them to just carry on winning the way they did.
00:42:00
Nick Britten
And it was clear the signs were there from the very first start of the season, the very first game of the season. And then subsequent games where they were just nicking goals deep into injury time. The signs were there then. And I think it's quite...
00:42:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree with with Erdo. I agree the signs with Erdo.
00:42:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
And in fact, that's part of my narrative in the sense of, you know, they're clearly a much worse team than they were at the end of last season. now I'm interested to know why that is. Anyway, let's move on to last game.
00:42:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
West Ham against Brentford. Two... Well, two teams we both had as being down there in the the bottom regions of the league. And guess what? They are 19th and 16th.
00:42:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
What you reckon? What do you reckon is going to be the outcome of that particular match?
00:42:48
Nick Britten
Nothing interesting.
00:42:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nothing.
00:42:51
Nick Britten
Because... No, because West Ham will just be going into Nuno mode now, which is just quite solid in defence. But they don't really have any... Other than Jarrod Bowen, who love, by the way. Jarrod Bowen's a brilliant player. I don't I just never understood why he's still playing at West Ham.
00:43:07
Nick Britten
Other than him, they don't really have a lot of... attacking flair, players who can play on the counter. mean, Pacquiao's been starting to play a bit better, but Nuno's first job is to stop West Ham losing.
00:43:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, it's a good
00:43:20
Nick Britten
So he'll start what he always does. He'll start a back. He'll make them quite difficult to break down. And then you're up against Brentford, who have shown that they are they're not as poor as as perhaps we thought they were going to be.
00:43:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know.
00:43:33
Nick Britten
And Thiago's actually had a really... he's He's playing well at the moment. So...
00:43:39
Nick Britten
If this is 0-0, it wouldn't surprise me in any way, shape or form. I think I'll probably just stick with a draw.
00:43:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
A draw.
00:43:46
Nick Britten
Because although West Ham have got a new manager, what they haven't got is 11 new players.
00:43:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going.
00:43:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:43:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, they haven't. And they have been, they're weak. They are clearly weak and and and they've had an issue, I think, in terms of squad strength. I am, though, I believe in Nuno.
00:44:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going for a home win. Narrow, squeaky Bowen winner in the 76th minute, 1-0 to the Hammers. But you're right. I don't think it's going to be something that we're going to be playing on YouTube over and over again for the rest of the season.
00:44:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Won't go down classic. But there we go. So, interesting. So, we don't agree on many. We only agree on Man City winning at home against Everton. Arsenal winning away at Fulham. The rest...
00:44:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
we We're at odds on. We're loggerheads, Nick, on the rest of... bit of loggerheads throughout this bloody podcast. Anyway, it makes it uninteresting, isn't it? Right.
00:44:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
So that is the Daily Premier League podcast for today, Thursday, the 16th October. hope enjoyed that as much as we have. Have you had your tea yet, Nick?
00:44:50
Nick Britten

00:44:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I can tell. Right. Nor have I.
00:44:55
Nick Britten

00:44:59
Global Sports Podcast Network

00:45:37
Nick Britten
I'm very excited about that. It's been brilliant. The last couple of weeks have been throwing up some fantastic qualifiers. England of obviously qualified, became the first European club to qualify after beating the mighty Latvia on the back of beating the mighty somebody else.
00:45:52
Nick Britten
Was that Wales? That was just friendly, but they would have beat him anyway.
00:45:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:45:56
Nick Britten
ah And um yeah, so well done England. And yeah, with loads of teams qualified. Loads of teams in the last couple
00:46:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Eight eights qualifications in the course of the last two weeks. So it's fascinating.
00:46:04
Nick Britten
Yeah.
00:46:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
So if you're interested in the World Cup, make sure you join us on Road World Cup 26. We've now got 28 teams of the 48 qualified and we go through them every week. So it's going to be yeah an interesting thing to do.
00:46:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
