Introduction: Ken and Nick's Curry Outing

00:00:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome everybody, do like how I did that little sweeper thing? I did it by accident, I don't know what happened, but anyway, it kind of got there in the end. Welcome everybody ah to the Daily Femme League on podcast on Sunday the 26th of October. It's a dark, dismal and dreary UK because our clocks have gone back.
00:00:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
So... We, if it's so it's about eight o'clock, it's going to get on for a quarter to eight in the evening here in the UK. Feels like midnight, to be honest.
00:00:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah My name's Ken Davis. His name is Nick Britton. We've just been out for a curry, by the way, which we thoroughly enjoyed. ah And we're here to review all the weekend Premier League action. How are you doing, Nick? Did enjoy your curry?
00:01:00
Nick Britten
ah It was as good. We could have just done it. We could have just taken a our gear down and done it from the restaurant, couldn't we?
00:01:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mmm.
00:01:06
Nick Britten
That would have been good. We could have set ourselves up in a corner and just done a little live live podcast from the corner of restaurant.
00:01:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
was yeah In the Lotus, Mercy Marina, Derbyshire.
00:01:12
Nick Britten
Yeah. Yeah.
00:01:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's going to be worth an advert, isn't

Prediction Competition Results

00:01:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
it? so it's been a very interesting yet another very interesting weekend of Premier League action. We're going to through it all.
00:01:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah just We better get this out there into the public domain. ah Nick did win this week's prediction competition.
00:01:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
He got five out ten.
00:01:36
Nick Britten
Oh, yeah.
00:01:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Five out ten. I got four out ten. Every one of those predictions looked absolutely kind of sensible. And yet both of us, i you get 50%, I get 40% right. It's... I don't know.

Arnie Slott's Management Under Scrutiny

00:01:51
Nick Britten
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And actually, in the great sort of scheme of things, going from three out ten last week to five out ten isn't an enormous leap. Until you realise that I've won this week.
00:02:02
Nick Britten
And that, my friend, is massive.
00:02:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's it
00:02:05
Nick Britten
Given the stick you gave me last week.
00:02:07
Nick Britten
So I am you officially the king of predictions. Thank you very much indeed.
00:02:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah
00:02:10
Nick Britten
I shall win. With proud.
00:02:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
You are this week.
00:02:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
You are king of predictions this week by war Right, what we're going to do is just go through the games, really.
00:02:12
Nick Britten
With proud.
00:02:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
There were lots talking points in all the games. theres so There's some stuff going on. Nick gave me a lot of grief last week saying, Arnie Slott, his seat's getting in warmer. And Nick was saying, no, no, no, no.
00:02:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
And guess what? His seat's getting warmer. Arnie Slott's chestnuts are roasting on an open fire, as we're talking right now, I suspect. Anyway, we'll come to those games. We'll do it in turn.
00:02:41
Nick Britten
Yeah, no, listen, every time you can't think you can get worse for Liverpool and they have to turn a corner, it gets worse because they were wretched yesterday. They were awful.
00:02:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, well, let's come to that as we

Leeds vs West Ham: Defensive Issues

00:02:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
come to that. Let's go through them chronologically. ah Leeds against West Ham. This is the game of Friday, was
00:02:58
Nick Britten
No surprise. No surprise. This is where all your predictions started unraveling at a rapid rate because you thought that West Ham would get a draw there.
00:03:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
I thought there'd you know, I thought...
00:03:09
Nick Britten
which Which would be the most stupid, I mean, honestly, in the in the world, in in the entire history of predictions, in the entire history, and this is going back hundreds of years, that people who are predicting sporting events.
00:03:19
Nick Britten
Nobody in the in their right mind would ever have predicted West Ham getting a point away Leeds.
00:03:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I feel such a fool there, to be honest.
00:03:25
Nick Britten
And they didn't. You should feel a fool, to be honest with you. You should feel a fool. No, it was 2-1. I mean, you might say, Ken, if I was being charitable to West Ham also had a goal disallowed for offside.
00:03:37
Nick Britten
But it wasn't until the 90th minute that they scored. And that even then, it didn't make for a frenetic sort of few minutes of of injury time. It was comfortable for Leeds. West
00:03:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
They were tuned up after 14 minutes, Lee's way.
00:03:49
Nick Britten
Yeah, yeah.
00:03:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
were absolutely strolling it.
00:03:52
Nick Britten
Just defending is just so appalling. And the whole point of bringing Nuno in, by the way, The whole point of bringing Nuno in is to was to shore up the defence. And they looked they just looked as just as bad as they ever did under Graham Potter, trying to defend crosses, trying to defend set-pieces, trying to defend in general.
00:04:11
Nick Britten
They looked just
00:04:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not got any better.
00:04:13
Nick Britten
No.
00:04:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
I saw Nuno's... press conference afterwards, you know, asking for an explanation as to why they'd been so slow out the blocks. And he's very critical, very critical, you know, lack of focus, lack of concentration. But but but he seemed almost, I wouldn't say accepting of it, but he was very, he wasn't angry is what I'm getting at. He seemed very, well, you know, it it seemed a very placid
00:04:44
Nick Britten
Yeah, but you know what? If you go in like like he has done, you can just go, yeah, it's not my fault, is it? It's the players I've got.
00:04:53
Nick Britten
could nothing else do. The best bit of players rubbish. And I mean, look, it's very rare that, I mean, sometimes you get a new manager bounce. That was the point. Sometimes nothing happens. It's very rare that you get a new manager dip and this is what's happening.
00:04:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but as we know this season...
00:05:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah I've seen a few this season.
00:05:11
Nick Britten
Well, Ange at Forest, who ironically, of course, replaced Nuno at Forest.

Sunderland Stuns Chelsea

00:05:15
Nick Britten
So, no rubbish, West Ham, I'm afraid. I feel so sorry for Jarrod Bowen. He is their only half-decent player.
00:05:22
Nick Britten
And he got an assist the other day on Friday night. Please to go and play somewhere else.
00:05:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
He did.
00:05:25
Nick Britten
Go and sign for a decent team in January before it's too late.
00:05:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
What if he does? It's curtains for West Ham. And I'm just looking at the lead table.
00:05:33
Nick Britten
It's Kearn's West Ham anyway.
00:05:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
You reckon?
00:05:35
Nick Britten
I can't see...
00:05:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Four points out of a possible 27. One point
00:05:39
Nick Britten
Yeah, three of those came in a really bizarre victory at Nottingham Forest, which was a complete outlier in terms of anything else they've done this season. So it's not like they picked up points on the road.
00:05:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
one street out of the last 18. It's not looking good, it is it?
00:05:52
Nick Britten
Yeah, it's not no it's not like they're picking up points here or there.
00:05:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brighton's on the wall.
00:05:56
Nick Britten
They just have that one win and that's it. And then they've just gone back to losing him. they just like They can't defend. They've got no pace in the midfield. and They've got Bowen up front. They've got Paqueta up front. So they've got possibilities up there. They're both very good players.
00:06:08
Nick Britten
But yeah, I mean, they just I don't see, to be honest, how they're going to get out of this.
00:06:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't think so either, to be quite honest. In fact, the bottom four, Fulham, who we'll talk about in a bit, Forrest, West Ham and Wolverhampton Wanderers, just seems to be getting cut adrift a little bit.
00:06:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, from that end of the table and an utterly predictable, even though not by me, result, then we come to Chelsea against Sunderland.
00:06:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who foresaw this? I mean, Sunderland really are, for a second, maybe even for two hours, they were second in the Premier League.
00:06:45
Nick Britten
Yeah, it doesn't tell the whole story of the game. i mean, ah Chelsea scored very early early on, four minutes in, and you think, okay, here we go.
00:06:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:06:55
Nick Britten
But fair play Sunderland. They got themselves back in it. They equalised on 22 minutes. And it was it was a fairly sort of even-ish first half. But the second half was just Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea.
00:07:08
Nick Britten
And Sunderland sitting deeper and deeper and deeper and deeper. But they just couldn't break them down. They didn't have any attacking edge. They didn't have any craft or guile. It was just fairly mundane stuff as they as they just couldn't break Sunderland down.
00:07:21
Nick Britten
And then as the game went on, In the last 10, 12, 13, 14 minutes, Sunderland just started breaking away and they had a couple of opportunities to break away and score. And then, of course, in the 94th minute, they did.
00:07:35
Nick Britten
And fair play ah to to Brian Bobby, by the way.
00:07:38
Nick Britten
Bobby, rather, hasn't seen a goal. He gets the ball high up the pitch from a just from a... It was a Chelsea. Chelsea had overcommitted trying to win the game. He gets it, but he does brilliantly because he just hangs on to it and hangs on to it and hangs on to it and hangs on to it, waits for a couple of people to try and join him up the top end of the pitch.
00:07:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:07:54
Nick Britten
And then Talby does so and just bends a first-time, beautiful first-time shot from Broby's pass into the bottom, yeah bends it around into the bottom left of the goalkeeper's goal.
00:07:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
go
00:08:05
Nick Britten
and game one out of nowhere. And we've seen it. Listen, we're all ra football supporters. We've been there. We've been there. We've done it. We've seen it. We've got the T-shirt where your team's so dominant in a game they're supposed to win and just get hit by an absolute sucker punch at the end of the game.
00:08:21
Nick Britten
And I'm not saying Sunderland necessarily deserve to win the game, but they did enough certainly not to to to lose it. And fair play. I mean, it just builds on their brilliant... brilliant start to the season and I think they you know they that they're going great guns so
00:08:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
They are 17 points out of nine games. They ain't going down. There's no way they're going down now.
00:08:41
Nick Britten
no nobody well nobody thought they would i i didn't I didn't have them in my bottom three at the start of the season
00:08:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right. um You always think, you know, there's been this thing about teams that come up, seems to be the favourites to go back down again. Sunderland are not going down. There's absolutely no chance as Nick reaches for his glass of red wine.
00:08:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
It is, sir I mean, they're difficult to beat. They've got a good defence. got a very solid defence. Probably so a good good acquisition, I think. and they They've just acquired, really. They've been very smart in their acquisitions, I think.
00:09:07
Nick Britten
Well, yet again,

Granit Xhaka's Rise at Sunderland

00:09:08
Nick Britten
Granit Xhaka was the man of the match.
00:09:09
Nick Britten
And we've talked about him before. And what an acquisition he's been. What a signings he's been. He's exactly, exactly what Sunderland needed. And he's shown to still have plenty to offer the Premier League.
00:09:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
He been real anchor in midfield. So, well done to him. Well done to Sunderland. That's a fantastic result. And, yeah, Le Brees done a fantastic fantastic managerial job there as well. Right. So, that leaves Chelsea in ninth.
00:09:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Chelsea, cure its egg. You know, they're just, you you touched on the fact they they have a lot of possession, but they just don't seem to be able to unlock the door. I see that a lot. Sunderland up to fourth.
00:09:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Newcastle, 2-1 winners against Fulham. Fulham, we'll talk about Newcastle, but Fulham lost the last four now. Down in 17th, I mean, starting to look a bit dicey for Michael Silva's team.
00:10:10
Nick Britten
They were very close to picking up a point yesterday. They were very physical against Newcastle. They werere very organised. ah they They didn't play badly at all. i mean, it took a 90th minute goal from Bruno Guimaraes to beat them after a nice little run from Willis Sula.
00:10:25
Nick Britten
And... and you know They did okay. They went one down, obviously, to Jacob Murphy's goal, which is well-taken goal. I like Jacob Murphy, by the way.
00:10:36
Nick Britten
I think he's one of those he's one of my favourites of the Newcastle crowd.
00:10:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:10:39
Nick Britten
I think he's good. And they got back into it. They got back into it. Lukic scored on 56. And it looked like it was going to just drift away for a point. And Newcastle were pressing, as you'd expect them to do. Home team, ah home advantage, big crowd, as always.
00:10:53
Nick Britten
And... They just got over the line. It didn't look like they were going to, I'm not going lie. They

Newcastle's Last-Minute Win Against Fulham

00:10:59
Nick Britten
just got over the line. But it was, ah it was I think, you know, Fulham's goalie has, he's got to look at himself here, ah Bert Leno, because the shot's coming from Asula.
00:11:13
Nick Britten
And he's dived down to his right. And now, what are you told? You know, what are you told when you you can't hold the save? What do you do? You push it away. But where are you always told? You know goalkeeper goalkeeper coaching since you're at the age of five.
00:11:26
Nick Britten
Push it away from goal. Push it away from goal. And you feel like he could have done that quite comfortably. But instead, he's just... pushed it straight out to Gimaraish, who stuck it straight back beyond him and into the net to win the game.
00:11:38
Nick Britten
And I think if you're Leno, you look at that going, yeah, I should have done much better, much better.
00:11:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think that's right. I mean, Fulham, to be honest, keep losing games by the odd goal. I mean, they're not conceding huge amounts of goals. i mean, they've only conceded 14. It's the same as Liverpool, by the way.
00:11:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
And scored nine. so So I don't think their performances have been dreadful. They've just been on the wrong end of tight games over and over again recently. I mean, but yeah we like Fulham, so we expect that to turn around.
00:12:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
But they' they're putting themselves in a tricky spot right now.
00:12:10
Nick Britten
Yeah, I don't think... They are in a tricky spot. I think they'll be okay. I think they've got... They're good at home. ah know they're not picking up the points they should be, but they they're good at home. It'll turn around, I think. Marco Silva's an excellent manager and it'll turn around.
00:12:25
Nick Britten
I mean, as for Newcastle, that well, they needed to really build on what was an excellent point performance in midweek in the Champions League where they they put Benfica to the sword pretty comfortably, I would say.
00:12:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah,
00:12:37
Nick Britten
And I think they needed this win. They needed this win. And it was one of those where, you because yeah, they deserved it, or just about. just about it was It was a close game.
00:12:48
Nick Britten
But your field at Newcastle have got to start building up momentum. They're another one who've probably underfo underperformed and disappointed a little bit this season. They need to start picking up wins.
00:12:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
you can see that.
00:12:59
Nick Britten
And these types of games, you know, these types of games where you win it in the last moment and all that, they can do ah they can do a world of good for your confidence, they're really good.
00:13:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think you're right. i mean, they've won three out the last six. So, you know, they're definitely moving in the right direction. And the European game, as you're saying, is definitely a fillet for them. ah Right.
00:13:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
I knew because I got this prediction right. It's the one I got right and you got wrong.
00:13:23
Nick Britten
ah Well done.
00:13:24
Nick Britten
Congratulations.
00:13:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Man United go I told you that that Amorim is going to end up being carried shoulder high through Salford.
00:13:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
People are really starting to buy into Amorim. Watch their what what the longer highlights this game. And, mean, Cunha, great first goal.
00:13:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Man United looked dominant, went three up.
00:13:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brighton got it back to 3-2 and it was a very, very nervy time and Buenemo smashes one in and in injury time to seal it. ah Man United look a different team. They look confident.
00:14:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
There's a load of attacking threat. ah yeah i I'm not over keen on Casimiro still in midfield but they're just starting to have you know some urgency some balance and some ah some cutting edge which is great because you got I think that's three wins on the back for Man United and they find themselves above Liverpool
00:14:26
Nick Britten
Two things, Ken. Two things that happened.
00:14:32
Nick Britten
The first is that Matthias Cunha is back and fit. He missed a few games and he makes a massive difference because he's a really, really good player.
00:14:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
He makes a massive of the wolves as well.
00:14:42
Nick Britten
Yeah, exactly. Well, exactly. and We'll come to that. So I think having him in that front three, you him and Buemo and Sesko is a huge fillip for Manchester United because...
00:14:54
Nick Britten
Sesko's still not really firing, so everything was kind of going through in Buomo.
00:14:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
he's not firing, is he?
00:14:58
Nick Britten
And that then becomes fairly easy to kind of mark because you know he's main attacking outlet. Cunha is a different proposition ah and that's made an enormous difference. And the other one is, finally, finally,
00:15:14
Nick Britten
he's putting Ahmad Diallo in the team and that's making a massive difference.
00:15:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:15:19
Nick Britten
And ah I, couldn't understand for a moment why he wasn't playing, uh, before. And, um
00:15:28
Nick Britten
He's really coming to the fore. So I think, yeah, you're right about Casemiro. Not a great fan. Still looks a bit slow. Still looks a bit, you know, and Kobi Mainu came on for him.
00:15:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
chief
00:15:39
Nick Britten
And actually Mainu and Dio is a good two. Fernandes is playing well again after a bit of a sticky spell. So it is starting to click without doubt.
00:15:50
Nick Britten
It's starting click.
00:15:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think he's trying I think he's finally working out his best team. And he's got he's got his best team or something close to his best team available. It just looks looks night and day compared to last season.
00:16:06
Nick Britten
Well, look, let's not just overly get carried away. a He's been in charge a year and for 10 and a half months of that year have been pretty wretched.
00:16:17
Nick Britten
So yes, they've run away at Liverpool and they've beaten Bryant at home. Great. Every game, you've just got to build on it and build on it and build on it and take it, to use the old cliche, game by game by game.
00:16:30
Nick Britten
And they were good yesterday. They played well yesterday. ah Let's see what the next couple of fixtures, ah particularly away from home, bring.
00:16:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, four wins out six though for Man United well placed there up to sixth place one place above Liverpool as we yeah as we finish this this week who would have thought that four weeks ago not me
00:16:52
Nick Britten
Absolutely. 100%. mean, that win against Liverpool, they needed to build on it. They needed to get another positive result yesterday. And they've done that. And fair play to And Brighton are no mugs. But I've got to say, I mean, I watched the game and Brighton were were not at their usual standard by any stretch the imagination.
00:17:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, anyway.
00:17:08
Nick Britten
Their passing, which is their by far their biggest strength, was way off. you know And I mean way off. And yes, they got the two goals very late in the day, 74 and 93. And that made it potentially a sticky end to the game, although Mbwemo scored on 97 to make it safe.
00:17:27
Nick Britten
They weren't their usual side. And I don't know about Brighton. They're kind of flattering to deceive a little bit, I think, this season. they're not quite up to the level they were last.
00:17:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, down to 13th now. Which brings us to the most predictable game of all. Brentford against Liverpool.
00:17:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah You can guarantee Liverpool are giving two goals away.

Liverpool's Defensive Woes

00:17:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've seen this now for week after week after week and In this case, they were 2-0 down by half-time. Against Brentford, who everybody thought would get what we through and he thought were going down this season.
00:18:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Liverpool's susceptibility to set pieces is still a massive issue. I think if everyone everyone would have seen that first goal now. What Kerkhez is doing fast asleep on the back post when the guy smashes it in?
00:18:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean...
00:18:17
Nick Britten
i feel it no I feel a bit sorry for Kerkers in that situation because actually, yeah, because I don't think he was asleep.
00:18:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you?
00:18:22
Nick Britten
I think that if you look at where the ball's come across, it's got a flick on And as Utara, it's actually behind Utara when he swings and volleys it in.
00:18:34
Nick Britten
So I'm not quite sure what Kerkers is meant to do in that situation. I think his positioning was fine.
00:18:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Again, he needs to get closer.
00:18:41
Nick Britten
Maybe, it made of it well, do you think maybe if it was?
00:18:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
He needs to needs to make it more difficult for him than he made it.
00:18:44
Nick Britten
Yeah, I do.
00:18:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
The second goal...
00:18:51
Nick Britten
ah' But I don't think i don't think ah don't think he probably didn't even expect him shoot from there because it was the ball was really behind him and he's hooked it in brilliantly.
00:19:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, it's great goal. It's a great goal.
00:19:01
Nick Britten
But actually, most most players would take a touch there, I think.
00:19:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, maybe, but I still think Kerkers, even if if he was planning on taking a touch, Kerkers has got to be tighter in there. And the second goal, Canate gives up on that.
00:19:14
Nick Britten
Yeah, that was terrible. Yeah, Kenei's just had enough, hasn't he?
00:19:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
give Yeah, when he gets into the penalty area, he just says, OK, give up.
00:19:20
Nick Britten
Yeah, yeah.
00:19:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was the most blatant give up I've seen by a professional footballer in a very long time.
00:19:25
Nick Britten
Well, problem is, the problem is Shardou had made the run. He was the wrong side of Canato. So, Canati knows that if he touches him, it's going to be a red card.
00:19:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, ah get I get that, but it was horrible to watch, wasn't it?
00:19:33
Nick Britten
It's going to be a red card. It was horrible to watch because he did actually just kind of stop running, didn't he? just thought he didn't even
00:19:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:38
Nick Britten
it didn't even do what what kind of a defender you should do in that situation where've got no chance of getting ah getting a player. So, you then try and make the move in to cover your goal line. Because for all we know, keeper makes half a save.
00:19:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly.
00:19:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
read.
00:19:51
Nick Britten
Shardou follows up, in which case, by which time, Canati's on the goal line.
00:19:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or by which then, even if he's not on the goal line, Canati can influence the game if if he doesn't just smash it into the gut, which he did.
00:19:59
Nick Britten
Yeah.
00:20:02
Nick Britten
Yeah. yeah
00:20:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, Canati didn't know that. So, you know, that I thought i was that was awful.
00:20:07
Nick Britten
Yeah. No, it was poor.
00:20:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, which continues. and that's ah That's a run of Canati issues, I think. I mean, defensively, Liverpool, all over the place. Yeah. And they're susceptible to teams running at them. We've seen that. So, Salah scores a magnificent goal. I mean, we've got to give him credit.
00:20:28
Nick Britten
What goal that was. What a goal that was, by the way. what a What a take, first of all, and then finish with his other foot from that tight angle into the near post top bins.
00:20:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a goal.
00:20:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:20:39
Nick Britten
Wow.
00:20:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. It was...
00:20:40
Nick Britten
yeah That was prime seller, that was. of nowhere, yeah.
00:20:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Goal of the season so far for me, that one.
00:20:44
Nick Britten
I even worse.
00:20:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just completely out of the blue. Yeah. Brighton's penalty was an odd one because, i mean, but sorry, Brentford's penalty was ah was an odd one.
00:20:53
Nick Britten
LAUGHTER
00:20:56
Nick Britten
Yeah, I know. I couldn't quite get my head around that at all.
00:21:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
When I saw it in real time, I thought, what's what's he doing?
00:21:00
Nick Britten
i mean...
00:21:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's clearly out the outside the box because by the edge because they end up way outside the box, don't they, in terms of when he falls away.
00:21:08
Nick Britten
Yeah, so so so the Brentford player is running out of the box with the ball.
00:21:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:21:12
Nick Britten
Van Dijk kicks him. It was sort of challenging for the ball, but kicks him. But he just looks way out of the box. And in the end, the VAR decided that the when the actual contact was made, the boot of the Brentford player was on the line, right on the line.
00:21:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
On the line.
00:21:34
Nick Britten
of the area a goal area and and therefore although the rest of his body seemed to be out of the area and by the time he fell over he was about five yards out of apparentlyly area is it the the foul is committed on the line which which you know is the rules of the game if it's on the line means in the penalty area but it was a bit of a weird one wasn't it
00:21:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just Yeah, massively weird one. And it looked weird and in in real time. Anyway, took it well. That made it 3-1. So then went up the other and smashed the world in. But Liverpool end up losing 3-2. Now...
00:22:04
Nick Britten
And it was it was it was, I don't know if you saw the game.
00:22:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:22:08
Nick Britten
So the last sort of five, ten minutes of it, the because you know there was a change of referee up at half-time, Simon Hooper, who refereed the first game, ah sorry, the first half rather, and he was giving the Brentford fans a lot of pain because he played a lot of injury time in the first half during which Liverpool scored.
00:22:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:30
Nick Britten
They scored six minutes into injury time at the end of the first half when I think he'd only signalled someone like three or four. And then at the end of the game, was a similar thing. so the So the new referee...
00:22:41
Nick Britten
ah signalled, think, i can't remember what it was it was. Was it maybe six or something like that? But he played sort two or three extra. And the Brentford fans, and the ball's bobbing around the Brentford box and Liverpool are trying to score and it's chaos and there's blocks and kicks and foots and heads all over the place.
00:22:59
Nick Britten
And the Brentford fans go absolutely nuts.
00:23:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
As she should, as she was.
00:23:03
Nick Britten
Absolutely nuts.
00:23:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
But they hung on and it's a great, great win for Brentford, up to 11th, Liverpool down to 7th now.
00:23:05
Nick Britten
Until they go over the line, they go over the line.
00:23:12
Global Sports Podcast Network

00:24:00
Nick Britten
i was going to ask you I was going to ask you that. Is he under pressure? What do you think?
00:24:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, massive pressure.
00:24:05
Nick Britten
is he Is he in danger of losing his job?
00:24:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
He is. Yes, he is. And you know how good I am at predicting this stuff. You know I am.
00:24:13
Nick Britten
To be fair, you've got all the forest stuff.
00:24:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
hi
00:24:15
Nick Britten
Absolutely nailed on.
00:24:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah did. He is.
00:24:16
Nick Britten
Yeah, did.
00:24:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
He is. Because Liverpool fans... Really do believe that he won he won last year with Klopp's team. Now we've got an Arnie Slott team and we don't like it one bit.
00:24:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he's in a lot of trouble. Now, they're going to win the next two games.
00:24:33
Nick Britten
they won't sack him they won't sack no chance will sack him no chance
00:24:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've all forgotten about it. But...
00:24:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
No. No.
00:24:43
Nick Britten
no chance they're not going to lose the next sixth they're not going to lose the I mean bizarrely against Eintracht Frankfurt in the week in the Champions League they look really good they look properly good
00:24:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
What, we lose the next six?
00:24:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Didn't think we'd lose the last four.
00:24:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, you know my view on the Premier League against the Bundesliga.
00:25:02
Nick Britten
Yeah, I know that. I know that. I know that. I get that.

Liverpool's Upcoming Challenges

00:25:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's... Right.
00:25:07
Nick Britten
Well, yeah, if you lose with next six. But Liverpool aren't that sort club. When was the last time Liverpool sacked a manager?
00:25:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
What are the next two games Liverpool have got? i've I cheated. i looked. Aston Villa at home. City away. Man City away.
00:25:26
Nick Britten
Okay. Okay. All right. I mean, that, you know.
00:25:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
You lose them two. You can definitely, definitely lose them two.
00:25:36
Nick Britten
Well, could he could lose those it it could lose they could lose those two, but I don't think that was case
00:25:42
Nick Britten
um
00:25:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
I wouldn't be surprised if they get one point out of those two games.
00:25:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Luckily for Arnie Slott, he's then got Forrest and West Ham.
00:25:49
Nick Britten
the case. On the 4th of October 2015, Brendan Rodgers was sacked.
00:25:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:25:56
Nick Britten
I think he's the last manager to be sacked.
00:26:02
Nick Britten
To be fair, yeah I think Jürgen Klopp could take over when he was there till a couple of years ago so
00:26:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
i
00:26:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah look i I think yeah it it clearly is a long shot, but to say he's not under pressure, he's under a lot of pressure. the whale All four wheels now have come off that bus.
00:26:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he's about to lose the steering wheel next weekend and probably the spare wheel against Man City, and it's going to be just like the caravan.
00:26:25
Nick Britten
ago.
00:26:28
Nick Britten
Well, no, caravans have wheels.
00:26:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
An old, dodgy caravan with no wheels.
00:26:30
Nick Britten
Caravans have wheels.
00:26:33
Nick Britten
on bricks.
00:26:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
So on bricks. Exactly. And in Liverpool, that happens a lot. So anyway, moving on to Sunday's games. ah The first one, I got this.
00:26:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
I got this way wrong. Apologies, everyone. Bournemouth 2, Forrest 0. Forrest have now lost 5-6.
00:26:51
Nick Britten
oh knows it good Oh, no, oh, no. It's going to be a return to the mean, you said and on yesterday's podcast. Forrest are going to get better and Bournemouth aren't top four material.
00:27:02
Nick Britten
This is going to be a return to what it

Bournemouth's Ascent Over Forest

00:27:04
Nick Britten
should be like. Forrest are going to win. What's the score?
00:27:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was 2-0 to Bournemouth.
00:27:10
Nick Britten
Turn out to Bournemouth.
00:27:11
Nick Britten
all over All over by halftime.
00:27:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Bournemouth are now second.
00:27:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Bournemouth are now second. Forrest are 18th. ah Forrest lost 5-6. They've got one point in the last 18. Starting to look...
00:27:21
Nick Britten
Yeah, Sean Dyche is going to get sacked. That's my prediction.
00:27:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Who would get sat first? Sean Dyche on his slot. I mean, it might take three years, but...
00:27:28
Nick Britten
Well, no, Maranakis, Sean Dyche, he's only got one game left, that's it's all over.
00:27:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it just didn't look very didn't look very good all the way through, did it really, for Forrest? They're just but not the team they were.
00:27:39
Nick Britten
No, they're just pretty boring. pretty boring performance from them, pretty comfortable for Bournemouth and a very, very well deserved victory. I mean, look, you shouldn't be letting in goals direct from corners.
00:27:54
Nick Britten
As a goalkeeper, you just shouldn't be. Simple as that. But,
00:27:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's gone off his cells, isn't it, I think?
00:28:00
Nick Britten
great hip Oh, by the way, yeah. i mean, it was great it's also a great hit from Krupe, who's this teenager who's burst onto the scene.
00:28:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
many Yeah,
00:28:06
Nick Britten
One of these ah we sort of, uh-oh, it's another great Bournemouth signing type of players.
00:28:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah, yeah.
00:28:11
Nick Britten
A couple of goals last time out, another one today.
00:28:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:28:13
Nick Britten
Good hit as well. You a good run and a hit from 25 yards or so, was it? And yeah, Forrest just looked really drab. Bring back Ange, that's what I say. At least it was entertaining.
00:28:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's ah it's starting to look very dodgy for Forrest. one One point in the last 18, as I mentioned, horrible goal difference. They've only scored five goals all season in nine goals. they They're by far the lowest scorers in the division, FYI.
00:28:47
Nick Britten
Yeah, and and it shows and it tells. And Deitch has got a lot of work to do there. He's got a lot of work to do. I mean, we said, didn't we, the other week on the on this podcast, what are his key priorities?
00:29:00
Nick Britten
Well, his key priority is to get Chris Wood scoring again because he's the only one who's capable of scoring goals in that team.
00:29:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:29:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's to be honest, it wasn't far off that same last year when when they were doing so well. and An awful lot of their victories came through Chris Wood.
00:29:14
Nick Britten
Yeah, i mean, he wasn't in toofe he he wasn't even in the today. give but um
00:29:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
isn long we But thats that's actually quite important, isn't it? I mean, was it was it an injury thing or was it was it simply he's dropped?
00:29:26
Nick Britten
He must have taken an injury. Igor Jesus played.
00:29:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:29
Nick Britten
He started.
00:29:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:30
Nick Britten
He was he was substituted at half-time. That's never a good look, is it? Substituted half-time. Awani... We had all this last year. I couldn't pronounce his name last year and and nothing's changed.
00:29:42
Nick Britten
ah Awani came on ah half-time but didn't really have that much effect on the game either. Just call him Taiwo. That's the easiest thing to do. ah So, yeah, Forest have got problems in front of the without a doubt.
00:29:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Correct. Arsenal, I certainly don't have any problems in defence. They won one, that obviously, against the Palace, Ezzet, with the goal. Four points clear now. Palace's season is faltering.
00:30:10
Nick Britten
It is a little bit. I mean, they had a shock to defeat against Nixir in the Conference League on Thursday night. I watched this game today and I thought they played pretty well. The last 15, 20 minutes, they were they were just all over Arsenal.
00:30:27
Nick Britten
I mean, they were just peppering the they were just you know cross after cross and effort after effort. But they didn't really get anywhere near the goal, if that makes sense. Arsenal's defence is so good. And in fact, there was... a there
00:30:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's good. this is that This is the big story of the season, really.
00:30:39
Nick Britten
yeah
00:30:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Arsenal's defence against Liverpool's defence.
00:30:43
Nick Britten
Well, the strange thing is, when Palace almost had a ah shot on target earlier on and in the game, the commentator who was... i was watching on TV, and the commentator it sort alluded to the fact that nobody nobody's even had a shot on target against Arsenal at the Emirates.
00:30:57
Nick Britten
And I don't know whether he means all season or in the last few games or what. But I mean, is it is so it is the case. It is the case.
00:31:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:31:03
Nick Britten
But it was always going to be the case that Eze was going to score against Palace. There's always, always, always going to happen. It was a magnificent hit. It was a sensational hit. I mean, hes the ball's kind of hip height.
00:31:17
Nick Britten
and he's And he's got over it. You know, if you've not seen it yet, was a cross in, sort half cleared. Eze steams in. It's hip height. And to be able to rock it into the back of the net and keep it yeah keep it down, because if you or I would do it, it would still be travelling on its way to the moon level.
00:31:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
that
00:31:35
Nick Britten
but ah It was a brilliant hit. And it was always going to be him that scored the goal. Arsenal looked all right. I mean, to honest, didn't look great. They had the majority of the game in the first half without really doing anything.
00:31:50
Nick Britten
They looked better after they'd scored because obviously they've got the confidence of a one-man-one lead and they probably think that, well, we'll we've scored one, that'll be it anyway. But they didn't really create that much, if I'm honest with you.
00:32:04
Nick Britten
wasn't it It wasn't that good a game. I'm not going to...
00:32:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
It wasn't a dominant Arsenal performance, was it? but like In the way that some teams dominate. But but they're just so rock-solid, aren't they?
00:32:12
Nick Britten
No, I mean, look, Arsenal... They are. They are really rock solid. I mean, they had three shots on target and Palace had one shot on target. That kind of tells you that is that kind of game.
00:32:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:32:24
Nick Britten
You know, I'm still wondering about Goykeres up front, who is quite an effective target man in as much as he holds the ball up well.
00:32:34
Nick Britten
He brings players into play.
00:32:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Create space for other players.
00:32:36
Nick Britten
Yeah, but just doesn't really look like scoring that much.
00:32:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's no Harland, is he?
00:32:40
Nick Britten
Saka had a poor eye.
00:32:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, he's miles off. Miles off Harland's level or anything.
00:32:44
Nick Britten
ah Yeah, he's not even at Mateta's level.
00:32:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:32:48
Nick Britten
Saka had a very quiet game. Trossard played very well, actually, down the left-hand side.
00:32:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joshua has played well this season.
00:32:54
Nick Britten
Yeah, I thought he had a good game. um You know, Palace huffed and puffed. And ah say certainly the last 15-20, they were really trying to get an equaliser. They were bombing balls into the Arsenal defensive third, but didn't really ever look like breaching the defences.
00:33:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think the thing about Arsenal, it's just so difficult to play through them.

Arsenal's Strong Defensive Performance

00:33:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
You just can't play through them. They're just they're just so organised. Villa 1, Man City 0.
00:33:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think Did we? No, I think we both had this. as I had a draw, so I was close you.
00:33:25
Nick Britten
how You had it as a draw. had it. o well ah just remember earning is why I tell you
00:33:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
had There's an away win. But...
00:33:33
Nick Britten
Because ah just presume you just presume that Haaland's going to score. But this was only the second game this season that he hasn't scored.
00:33:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't look at my fantasy yeah points. I've probably got seven or something. Yeah.
00:33:49
Nick Britten
I've got nothing out of my front line this week. Although, to be fair, I did i did try yesterday. No, Friday night, I tried to change it. I tried to get rid of a couple of players, but I was two minutes too late logging in.
00:34:00
Nick Britten
Two minutes. And Sod's Lord.
00:34:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
rooking Rookie error. No, that's not Soshoff.
00:34:05
Nick Britten
Sod's Lord.
00:34:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a rookie error.
00:34:05
Nick Britten
No, it's actually Sod's Lord. Sod's Lord. The players that I was going to get rid of did nothing this week. And the players was going to bring both them scored.
00:34:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:34:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah
00:34:13
Nick Britten
Both of them scored. was gutted.
00:34:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm to hear that, mate. But Villa scored. Villa won. vi
00:34:18
Nick Britten
um um those and
00:34:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
sorta one
00:34:19
Nick Britten
yeah On saying that, I was very tempted and and and was very tempted. ah So he might have gone on Friday night as well ah to get rid of Van der Ven out of my team. ah And today he's got k clean sheet and scored twice.
00:34:31
Nick Britten
So it will it wasn't all bad.
00:34:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, plenty of plenty of points come to Van der Ven owners.
00:34:33
Nick Britten
It wasn't all bad.
00:34:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
But Villa up to eighth, Man City down to fifth. Didn't really see that coming, but Villa have absolutely turned their season on its head. ah It's really interesting.
00:34:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Liverpool and Villa are on the same points now. After four games, obviously Villa, I think, were on one and Liverpool were on 12th. something like that. It was that, I think. And now they're saying, it just shows actually in the early part of the season just what you know what can happen when teams either get on a roll or or lose all semblance of how to play football.
00:35:11
Nick Britten
Yeah, and I thought Villa, you know, they are they are back on it. They were probably just about good for the win today. i mean, they got a little bit lucky.
00:35:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:35:19
Nick Britten
Haaland should have scored. He split through.
00:35:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Good.
00:35:22
Nick Britten
He did score um towards the end of the game, but ruled out for offside. Foden had a chance. Savino nearly scored, ah but Torres sort of hooked it off the line very well.
00:35:33
Nick Britten
So they'd certainly had their chances. But Villa, you fair play. I mean, theyve after that sticky start, they're not looking back.
00:35:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
the the plan
00:35:39
Nick Britten
and not looking back. They had a very surprising defeat. Again, a bit like Palace we're talking about. Very um a surprising defeat general met with during the week in Europe, losing to go-ahead Eagles. But this was a great way to bounce back.
00:35:52
Global Sports Podcast Network

Great, two more games just to review quickly. Such dedication doing this after a curry down at the Lotus in Mercy Marina. I hope you appreciate that around the world that we've sat here.
00:36:57
Nick Britten
I hope they appreciate all this free advertising, by the way.
00:36:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, they should do. We should get free Indian meals forever, shouldn't we? Do I get that anyway? Don't know. Anyway.
00:37:06
Nick Britten
You can get that at home, yeah.
00:37:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. So Wolves against Burnley. About 10 days ago, we said o two games to save Wolves this season. We've got away at Sunderland and home against Burnley.
00:37:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
for They better turn it around here. These are must-win games. Well, guess what? They lost them both. So is it already curtains for Wolves, Nick?
00:37:32
Nick Britten
It's getting very close and it was a bit ugly after the game. We saw Ferreira kind of argue with fans.
00:37:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, getting sacked in the morning.
00:37:42
Nick Britten
We saw yeah widespread booing. In fact, there was widespread booing after the first A couple of goals went in because Burnley took a lead on 14 and scored again 30. There's a lot of unrest. um Good job for Wolves. They got themselves back into it and scored two very late goals and first half.
00:38:01
Nick Britten
So it was surprisingly 2-2 going into the... break And it remained that way until the 96th minute. So the last kick of the game, the last kick of the game

Wolves Face Fan Unrest

00:38:10
Nick Britten
when Foster scored.
00:38:11
Nick Britten
And so, look, Wolves, we know, we know let in late goals. We've seen it.
00:38:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:38:19
Nick Britten
Saw it against Brighton. We saw against Tottenham. We know they can't hang on until the end of games. The supporters are very unhappy with the owners. they saw They see this as a managed decline over the last three or four years.
00:38:34
Nick Britten
And don't forget, this time last year, it took Wolves until something like the 8th or 9th of November to win a game. They they didn't win in the first 10 games.
00:38:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're in the same spot as this time.
00:38:43
Nick Britten
They exactly as they were last last time. they then...
00:38:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
And they got out of it because of Pereira.
00:38:46
Nick Britten
Well, they won a couple games.
00:38:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's going to do it twice.
00:38:49
Nick Britten
well they want to Well, it's very difficult. so It's very difficult to sort repeat this kind of thing because they won a couple of games under Gary O'Neill, remember this was at the time. Then they lost four more and then O'Neill got a sack and Pereira came in.
00:39:01
Nick Britten
And then they were second ah from bottom at the time and saved them. This time around, though, then but then during the summer they got rid of Kunia, they got rid of Al Nuri, and they haven't replaced him.
00:39:18
Nick Britten
they They've got off to a very poor start. And the problem is this time is they don't have the players to get them out of it, I don't think.
00:39:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah i think it's the talent
00:39:25
Nick Britten
That's the difficulty. And they're not playing. It's not like they're they're not they're not like Southampton last year. who are just rubbish. They're not. They're not that bad.
00:39:37
Nick Britten
And they aren' they're in games. And they were very close to getting a point today. They were within seconds of of beating Tottenham at White Hart Lane, ah or the Tottenham Hotspied as we now must call it, a couple of weeks ago. Likewise with Brighton.
00:39:50
Nick Britten
ah So it's not that. It's just they can't seem to see out games. Now, whether it's a lack of quality, whether it's inexperience, whether it's lots of new faces through the door who are still trying to get used to it I just don't know.
00:40:01
Nick Britten
I just don't know, but the Wolves fans are clearly, I think today was a bit of a turning point for them. They saw it like we saw it as a bit of a must-win game or certainly a must-not-lose game. must not lose game And there's no suggestion at the moment that Pereira is going to get the sack. He only signed three-year contract that' about two months ago, month and a half ago.
00:40:22
Nick Britten
ah but It's just not good enough. Where is this going to end? Where are they going to get their first win from? Because with the grace and respect to Scott Parker and his team, who've done a brilliant job today, brilliant job, if you can't beat Burnley at home, where are you going to get your victories from?
00:40:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, the next game's vital because it's away at Fulham. And we've just talked about Fulham losing four on the bounce. If they lose that game away at Fulham, they are going to be a minimum of eight points adrift.
00:40:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's all over.
00:40:54
Nick Britten
Well, if you look at the what the, I mean, the crowd was singing two things today. First, they were singing against the owners saying, you know, you've sold the team, now sell the club. ah Then they were singing against Pereira sacked in the morning, which is something we heard recently from Nottingham Forest fans.
00:41:10
Nick Britten
i but and and And it happened.
00:41:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that happened.
00:41:15
Nick Britten
It's really hard. It's really hard because, I mean, part of it, you've got to feel sorry for Pereira, who's seeing his best talent go out of the door and and it not being replaced. But owners will never take responsibility for these things. And the easiest thing to do is always blame on the coach.
00:41:31
Nick Britten
And equally, it's normally the coach that takes the the the yeah fall for it.
00:41:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, the next two games, Fulham away, absolutely critical. um Because Fulham haven't got a ton of confidence, but you just see, if Fulham need a get-right game, guess what? It's Wolves at home.
00:41:45
Nick Britten
Oh, 100%, yeah. And Fulham play with good intensity and good energy at home. i think it'll be a difficult afternoon for us.
00:41:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's going to be...
00:41:51
Nick Britten
It is worth saying amongst all of this, by the way, what a brilliant result it was for Burnley.
00:41:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah, it was.
00:41:56
Nick Britten
What a brilliant...
00:41:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
you You were one, two on the bounce now.
00:41:59
Nick Britten
Yeah, and and this was a game this was a game for them that they would have thought, we've got a chance here against a team that's bottomed the league, hasn't won a game all season. They would have been very surprised at 2-0 up.
00:42:12
Nick Britten
to find themselves, know, 2-0 up after half an hour, to find themselves going into the break at 2-2, because they must have thought tu to up after um and all the crowd were booing and everybody was had enough.
00:42:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:42:21
Nick Britten
They would have thought the game was won, but they had to come again, and come again they did.
00:42:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, well played Burnley. a Big game for them next week as well. They've got Arsenal at home. And the final game of the of of the weekend just finished.

Tottenham's Dominant Victory Over Everton

00:42:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
One that we didn't predict. Everton 0, Spurs 3. Spurs look like world beaters again. They're so unpredictable, Spurs. But they look very good. Everton look very out of sorts.
00:42:45
Nick Britten
The saviour. Well, the saviour of my fantasy league team this season this week, undoubtedly, is Mickey van der Ven. Because after what's looking rather really like a poor week for me, he should get some points on the board.
00:42:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Pickford look out of sorts.
00:42:56
Nick Britten
ah First Tottenham centre-half to score a double in the Premier League for 12 years now. And great. Two headers, two corners.
00:43:06
Nick Britten
Great.
00:43:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
You might caught up with me now.
00:43:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't look at what my fantasy league's like.
00:43:10
Nick Britten
No, you're so far ahead of me.
00:43:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, well, in so many ways. But no, you're right. You're right, Buck.
00:43:16
Nick Britten
Only because you had Haaland in from the start.
00:43:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I did.
00:43:20
Nick Britten
You got about 100 points on before I even turned up.
00:43:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Vicario, by the way, the Spurs keeper, had a magnificent game. There's a save in that game, which i it's got to be up there save the season so far. He scoops up with his left his left arm, which is going past him.
00:43:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely magnificent save. So, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
00:43:39
Nick Britten
Yeah, I mean, i I'll tell you, yeah, there's kind sliding doors moment in this game, I think, when Jake O'Brien scored, or thought he had scored, that would have made it 1-0.
00:43:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
they do
00:43:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:43:48
Nick Britten
And the VAR got involved and, yeah, referee ah Craig Pawson had to go over to the monitor and then he ruled that Grealish was sort marginally offside and...
00:43:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:44:01
Nick Britten
all of that kind of stuff. And well, it was one of those, it was one of those where, and you don't see them that often, but you do see them where a player's offside by interfering in the eyeline of the goalkeeper. You don't see them that often.
00:44:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:44:10
Nick Britten
These, types these those types of sides, he didn't touch the ball or anything. One, all of that stage might have changed it, but there you go.
00:44:18
Nick Britten
Fair play, fair play to Tottenham. Well done. Well done.
00:44:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
but evidently susceptible from the sorry just saying evidently susceptible from the corners and two corners two goals yeah
00:44:27
Nick Britten
Yeah, Tottenham third in the Premier League now. Are they the third best team in the Premier League? I know you've got a bit of a downer on them, haven't you?
00:44:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've got a bit of a down on it. But I don't know who is, really. I really don't know who is. ah Just look at it.
00:44:39
Nick Britten
Well, yeah um listen the other thing is worth saying. and We've said this before. Everton have suffered because they don't have a proper striker in.
00:44:46
Nick Britten
Beto played today and missed chances.
00:44:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:44:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:44:49
Nick Britten
He missed chances. and
00:44:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:44:52
Nick Britten
a proper they they If they had a number nine in, I hesitate to say if Calvert-Lewin was still there, I don't mean it. I don't think. But if they had a decent striker in, they would probably have something out of game and other games that they haven't.
00:45:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:45:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
I feel the same way slightly about Spurs, actually. I feel the same way about a few of the teams, actually. If they had the decent striker, they'd be quite de be much better. Spurs are a bit like that.
00:45:16
Nick Britten
yeah i mean Yeah, I mean, yeah. I mean, imagine what Man City could do if they got a decent striker in.
00:45:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, they'd be right up there, wouldn't they? Having said that, Spurs are the top scorers in the division for 17 goals, along with a couple of others. Chelsea have scored 17, so Man City serves Spurs, so more than more than anyone else.
00:45:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
So that's it.
00:45:36
Nick Britten
That's what you've scored 17 and Haaland's got 17.
00:45:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's been the week.
00:45:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, something like that. ah That's been another amazing week. Isn't it amazing? The Premier League, and we've learned this as we've been doing this, it's just keep it's the league that keeps on giving it.
00:45:53
Nick Britten
It is. <unk> great It's a great competition this year. This could go down in one of the one of the great Premier League seasons in history. This could.
