00:00:16
echo_blades
What's up, everybody, and welcome to another episode of the Triple T podcast for knife makers. This is a special delayed Idaho Monday night football is supposed to be extravaganza.
00:00:31
echo_blades
As always, I have my co-host Dennis Terrell from Terrell knife works here with me.
00:00:34
tyrellknifeworks
and e Yo, I'm good.
00:00:36
echo_blades
How the hell are you buddy?
00:00:38
tyrellknifeworks
I'm good. I'm sounds like I'm bright and more chipper than you are.
00:00:43
echo_blades
I'm a little beat. I'm a little beat. I'm not going to lie.
00:00:46
tyrellknifeworks
It's like getting old, man. You just you can't hang with the young kids anymore, I guess, huh?
00:00:52
echo_blades
No, no, that's. That's fact. Yeah. um I should say yes. Yes. That is fact.
00:01:00
echo_blades
Yeah. These quick turnaround shirt trips are, you know, turning into be, um, more eventful
Idaho Trip Adventures
00:01:08
echo_blades
than they used to be. So, but I am, huh?
00:01:10
tyrellknifeworks
More eventful. More eventful? What does that mean?
00:01:14
echo_blades
It means they take a toll.
00:01:16
tyrellknifeworks
Oh, oh I see.
00:01:17
echo_blades
Yeah. They take it all. Yeah. So I'm fresh off a trip back to Idaho. Flew out Sunday evening. And then I just got back here about an hour ago or so. I already have something like that.
00:01:32
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, we did try to record last night, but I was having internet issues. You sounded like, like you were yelling at a bucket. Um, so
00:01:42
echo_blades
Yeah, that was hilarious. I do want to say, so I'm doing the, ah we open the show. I'm doing the intro. I'm in sitting in a car trying to channel in my inner, uh, fader, right. And, um, I start doing the engine. Welcome to another triple T and I see Dennis telling me like the motioning me like to come closer to the mic, but I'm in the car. It's dark.
00:02:06
echo_blades
And my dumb ass like goes closer to my phone and I bumped the phone.
00:02:14
tyrellknifeworks
And you're you're wearing like AirPods or something. So ah that that was probably the best part of the show.
00:02:18
echo_blades
it was, and I was wearing AirPods. There was no mic to go to. I was just, yeah, as it was late.
00:02:25
tyrellknifeworks
It went down from there. So it's good that we're re-recording.
00:02:27
echo_blades
Yeah, it sure did. Yeah. So anyways, folks, we do apologize for the delay. I appreciate all the messages that I got of where the fuck are you guys at and what's happening. Uh, so that, that, that's cool again, and our apologies, but you know, our goal here at the triple T podcast is to provide the best entertainment that we're able to provide. And last night it would have been sub par had we released this morning and you guys just don't deserve that. You deserve better. So here we are.
00:03:01
tyrellknifeworks
All right, so work trip, right?
00:03:04
echo_blades
It was a work trip. Yeah.
00:03:05
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, so what, they wind and dine you? Is this one of those or is this?
00:03:08
echo_blades
No, I actually had to go out there and kiss hands and shake babies or however you say that.
Connecting with Knife Makers
00:03:16
tyrellknifeworks
All right, yeah you had to apologize for all the shit that was going wrong.
00:03:16
echo_blades
I think it's the other way around. But no, actually, it was literally just like a check in with one of our one of our bigger clients and, you know, just making sure they're happy and
00:03:20
tyrellknifeworks
One of those.
00:03:28
echo_blades
kind of convey a couple of concerns or or not concerns, but a couple of items that we can all improve on as a team. And ah yeah, so I had to get all super.
00:03:37
tyrellknifeworks
Oh, listen, sounding very management there.
00:03:39
echo_blades
Oh man, it's so it's it's so bad.
00:03:40
tyrellknifeworks
We can improve the team.
00:03:45
echo_blades
I hate it. I told you, I don't like talking shop, but ah yeah, i find Dennis, i I've explained this to you before. Uh, I think it happened to me with knife making the first time we were at blade show.
00:03:57
echo_blades
And I think I was just talking to somebody, um, at the table, you weren't around. And I was explaining something about your, the gold knife, the first one, the failure. You have this like out of body experience where like, after it's over, I'm like, who the fuck was that?
00:04:10
echo_blades
Like I, I don't, and I do that a lot at work, right? I find myself like just going after I'm done. Cause I'm like, geez, this is so bad.
00:04:22
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, we've all been there. I've had that experience myself ah it at trade shows, especially because you said the same fucking thing for 200 times.
00:04:34
tyrellknifeworks
And like, you were like, was that me talking or like, I don't even remember the conversation.
00:04:40
tyrellknifeworks
I don't remember who it was. I said the same thing.
00:04:43
echo_blades
No, but my voice will get deeper and I'll be like, you know, yes.
00:04:43
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, I know what it's like.
00:04:46
echo_blades
And the value in this and I'm just like, all right.
00:04:54
tyrellknifeworks
so were you Were you able to turn any any of this into a knife making adventure or is this all business?
00:04:59
echo_blades
You know what, sir, I have preached this and I will continue to preach this, but oh my best recommendation for all makers of all experience is to put yourself out there and try to connect with other makers. And when you have the opportunity, reach out to somebody and go see them, go check out their shop and, you know, go hang out. So I actually.
00:05:23
echo_blades
did that. ah I've been up there a couple of times and I've not been able to connect with ah Mr. Brian Hunt from Hidden Rose Forge and I reached out to him yesterday and it had to work the way that it did to where like all of my scheduled events ended and um He was about a half an hour from where I was. And it just worked out like the timing and everything. So, um, I was able to go check out Brian, um, go check out his shop, uh, see his house. Beautiful, beautiful home. The property has just like it for, for a guy that's from California living in the cities his whole life. Um, that kind of, uh,
00:06:10
echo_blades
um environment environment setting is is really like end game style stuff. so ah But he has beautiful family, very nice, very gracious, offered you know to have me and my my coworker was with me, ah offered to dinner to us and we got to go hang out in the shop.
00:06:27
echo_blades
um It was cool, it was a good time. My favorite part of the whole thing was obviously it's just like, you're ah from my side, I was trying to explain to my my coworker buddy,
00:06:39
echo_blades
I was like, so the cool, the part for me is just going to be like, when I go into this shop, like all I'm going to be doing for the first like 10 minutes is just like scoping everything out. Like how is this process compared to my process? How is his space utilized versus my space?
00:06:55
echo_blades
Um, and kind of checking, Oh, I have that. I have this, have that, or he doesn't have that or buth blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Um, and I think that's one of the coolest things about, you know, when you do end up connecting with somebody, but, um, I was happy to find out that Mr. Hunt is a, uh,
00:07:12
echo_blades
shares a lot of similarities with the, uh, the knife making. Verb Jared did.
00:07:20
tyrellknifeworks
He has unfinished knives everywhere, is that what you mean?
00:07:22
echo_blades
Oh my God. Yeah. I felt so at home. I thought I'd close my eyes. I would have felt the presence of many, uh, projects in different, uh, various stages of completion. Uh, it was fantastic. and He was like, Hey, but you know, he opens a drawer and this is my Jared a drawer. It's just,
00:07:40
echo_blades
Full of shit, you know, like just all stuff and in different varieties, man. But um yeah, really cool. Really cool experience. I'm super happy that I got to. i We got to work it out and that we got that done. ah Brian's a super cool dude. um Great knife maker. I just loved seeing and talking and doing the whole thing and.
00:08:05
echo_blades
what it ended up ah supposed to only being about a half an hour, you know, turned into an hour, a little over an hour. And it's too short though. um I wish we had more time, wish we had more, like to to get into something, but um it was cool.
00:08:15
tyrellknifeworks
What a dice, that's all.
Heat Treating Techniques Explored
00:08:20
echo_blades
It was a good time.
00:08:20
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, sounds good. I spent the afternoon, um the opposite of that. I was on the receiving end of a situation like that. A guy had reached out to me on the weekend, which I forgot to tell you about, but he reached out over the weekend and said, um He's towards Yosemite, Mariposa County.
00:08:46
echo_blades
Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay.
00:08:49
tyrellknifeworks
And and he's he's a pretty new maker. um His name's Adam. And he said, hey, you know, I i watch watch your videos, learn you're from Livermore.
00:09:02
tyrellknifeworks
You know, you're like two and two and a half hours away from me. But, um you know, he's like, hey, I aint know it's kind of like a shot in the dark, but I was wondering if you would let me come over. I know you have a problem. come over and heat treat ah some knives. And and he offered to pay for them, but I was like, whatever. And um so yeah, so he came over this afternoon, a really good guy. He's like 34. He actually, he's a ah skydiving instructor, which was interesting. So we talked a lot about that, but he's only been making since July.
00:09:37
tyrellknifeworks
of Last year last year. So just over a year Fantastic knives is already making Damascus.
00:09:45
tyrellknifeworks
He's done feathers. He's you know, really really interested in the Damascus and the things So he had a he had five knives.
00:09:53
tyrellknifeworks
He wanted a heat treat and he's always done it in a forge so you know when we went through I took him through all like that, you know give him the shop to her kind of thing and then um Took him through and he's never heat treated
00:10:08
tyrellknifeworks
Um, with an oven. So I'm going through, you know, we're going to do all these steps and I took them through every step. And, and one thing I really appreciated with, um, I really appreciate when you talk to a maker who's.
00:10:23
tyrellknifeworks
You know, learning or coming up or something like that, who's not afraid and you have this attribute and I like it. He's not afraid like when I'd say hey like and I'm genuinely saying OK, we're going to do. I think the first 20 minutes of our conversation I said OK, bring a new normalization and then we're going to do grain refine and he's like grain from it. What's that? um And he's not afraid to like every time I said a term he didn't know he wasn't afraid to stop me and say hey, what does that mean?
00:10:51
tyrellknifeworks
and What is that? And I said, well, that's, you've probably done the descending temperatures, which is, you know, we've had this guy misnomer. You don't want to do those 1600, 1500, 1400 temperatures. Like, and we talked about, you know, do the norm. Anyway.
00:11:08
tyrellknifeworks
We went through the whole thing and he was here for like three hours. We went out for lunch and, uh, got all his blades done. And then we surface ground one tested on the tester rated 65.
00:11:22
tyrellknifeworks
Um, obviously not, not, not tempered, but, and he was thrilled and he was like, man.
00:11:24
echo_blades
Tipper. Yeah. Right.
00:11:28
tyrellknifeworks
And, and, and I told him like, you know, you know, that color after you, you, um, You oven, you know, you you you quench, you know, you're added in the oven and you quench and you get that nice whitish gray color.
00:11:44
tyrellknifeworks
And he's like, yeah, I've never, and I said, well, yeah, it's hard. Like I can, I can tell it's hard. I can just by looking at it like that color and all the scale coming off, it's, it's hard blade.
00:11:53
tyrellknifeworks
He's like, yeah, I've never had that kind that color before. And I'm like, yeah, I mean, that's, you probably haven't dialed in your forged temps and and stuff like that. So. So it was fun, it was fun having him over and he ended up buying a straightening hammer and you know he'll probably come back for some classes. So it was, um yeah, it was good karma. And it was just enjoyable having him in the shop. So it was so it was good.
00:12:16
echo_blades
No, I think that's that's fantastic and good for you Adam for. But like I said, I can't express how much it's helped me, how many relationships I've been able to develop, how much knowledge I've been able to gain in exchange and, you know, by just simply raising my hand and saying, you know, like I said, it's awkward. It's kind of like going on a date or something. You feel a little insecure and stuff, but it's it's it's worth every every bit of it. And I'd say more I have yet to have an experience where I wish I wouldn't have, right? And I think that really speaks to the community, but it's also just, you know, we're all like, I don't know if we're like-minded, but where our interests and our personalities are very similar as knife makers. um And it's just, I understand what you're saying. Like when you're talking to somebody that yeah has the passion, like you know right away.
00:13:14
echo_blades
Like it's just, it's a, it's a connect and you feel like what you're saying and you're talking about is worth, you know, the time, right?
00:13:21
echo_blades
Um, and it, it, it feels like it's going, there's some retention and, um, but I really enjoy that. it It inspires me and it gets me back motivated, uh, you know, for, it gives me back to the beginning, right?
00:13:34
echo_blades
Where. where everything was just like, Oh, I want to know more. i know that does So that's good, man. And I appreciate you, uh, you know, continuing to do that. Cause you did that for me too. So, um, and now look at us.
00:13:48
echo_blades
So maybe don't do it, Adam.
00:13:48
tyrellknifeworks
That's right.
Balancing Knife Making and Personal Life
00:13:50
echo_blades
run, fucker, run.
00:13:54
tyrellknifeworks
See what happens after a couple of years. You end up as a host on a podcast.
00:13:56
echo_blades
yeah yeah Jeez.
00:14:01
tyrellknifeworks
You got a list of his drone on all the time.
00:14:03
echo_blades
Yeah, all the time. is and this but The value of team making.
00:14:09
echo_blades
So, yeah, I do i do agree though. that that That's really cool, man. So, um that that's awesome. I'm glad we both got to kind of hang out with other people and realize we don't like each other. It's pretty cool.
00:14:19
tyrellknifeworks
Absence makes the heart grow fonder, Jared.
00:14:21
echo_blades
Oh, so much, so much, man.
00:14:24
tyrellknifeworks
If you would only go away more, then I'd probably like you more.
00:14:27
echo_blades
I know. i'm I'm doing it now, dude. You're never gonna see me again.
00:14:33
tyrellknifeworks
But ah you know what, you know what, I was happy about, well, not the most, but one of the things I was super happy about today, having the garage door open all day and it wasn't blistering hot today.
00:14:46
tyrellknifeworks
I was very happy about it.
00:14:46
echo_blades
That's really cool. Yeah, this weekend sucked.
00:14:51
tyrellknifeworks
It sucked on so many levels.
00:14:52
echo_blades
Yeah, it really did.
00:14:54
echo_blades
um I didn't... I got so on, i so I knew I had to leave on Sunday. So Saturday, my, the better idea would have been to spend it in the shop, but I wanted to make sure I got some time with the family and Lynn. So basically, which was nice. It wasn't planned, but I really just kind of sat on my, my love sack.
00:15:22
tyrellknifeworks
Is that a euphemism for something?
00:15:23
echo_blades
No, it's literally, piece of furniture called a love sacks like the world.
00:15:26
tyrellknifeworks
ah one One of my friends has one of those.
00:15:28
echo_blades
Yeah, it's just a great word. Yeah, we have a love sack, the movie size. It's like it's a giant expensive, super comfortable beanbag. We also have the the sectionals.
00:15:43
tyrellknifeworks
Okay, ah we we have a ah title for the podcast.
00:15:48
echo_blades
love sex sectional
00:15:51
echo_blades
That's great. But that's what I did as I sat around on of my love sack products and watch a TV with Lynn on Saturday. And then I got out there for a little bit, but, um, I got up early on Sunday and went out and had the, had the AC running. And now that the summer's over, I think I figured out how to, how to beat the heat, which is to just dig into my pockets and let that mini split run never ending. Cause, uh, it, uh, it was very cool. It was a hundred and something the day before. and
00:16:24
echo_blades
What I'm trying to get to is that I spent about five or six hours in the shop and it was like 12 o'clock and I started to get like kind of warm. And like I was just feeling like the fan was was blowing the cool mini split air on me. And I was just like, geez, but you're in the shop with it closed up and you you're not really paying attention like what time it was. And it was only like 12 30 or something. It was already like 96. I was just like, fuck dude, this is brutal. I can't wait for it to be over.
00:16:52
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. Sunday I decided I was going to do it Saturday and I trim the bushes and I was like, fuck this. I'm like, so then Sunday I go to cut the grass and I, I literally almost had to like go have a nap after I was so hot and so exhausted.
00:17:09
tyrellknifeworks
And it was 11 30.
00:17:11
echo_blades
At the same time, yeah, it was hot, dude.
00:17:12
tyrellknifeworks
It was like, it was brutal.
00:17:13
echo_blades
It was ridiculous.
00:17:15
tyrellknifeworks
I should have just jumped in the pool, but, uh,
00:17:15
echo_blades
But, yeah. But I mean, I did get to get some hand sanding and busted out the sand minnow.
00:17:26
echo_blades
Let that puppy eat. And I really love that thing. I really can't express how much...
00:17:35
tyrellknifeworks
Nice. The sand shark as its proper name.
00:17:38
echo_blades
What? Wow, it said sand snow on mine.
00:17:42
tyrellknifeworks
You reckon my brand. Jeez.
00:17:45
echo_blades
I was calling it the, what was I calling it for a long time? The sex machine? Sex machine 5,000 or something?
00:17:52
tyrellknifeworks
crazy yeah
00:17:53
echo_blades
Yeah, at least it's got, it's got a similar name. Okay. I utilize the sand shark, a product by Dennis Terrell from Terrell knife works. Visit the Terrell knife works.com.
00:18:02
tyrellknifeworks
Thank you. yeah you
00:18:04
tyrellknifeworks
Use the, use the lower voice for that. but
00:18:04
echo_blades
but thumb up it up in There you go.
00:18:07
echo_blades
Yeah. But ah i yeah again, first grit off the belt, off the grinder. That's where the money's at. It's worth every single, every single penny you're going to spend on, on just getting through that first, that first grit.
00:18:22
echo_blades
And then the rest
Tools and Techniques in Knife Making
00:18:23
echo_blades
is kind of cake work after that. So, um, yeah.
00:18:25
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, for sure. That's where it shines the most is on the first grit. Um,
00:18:30
tyrellknifeworks
Mr. Kyle daily, I got a package from him. We've been chatting, um, kind of cross collaborating and, uh, he sent me the sanding buddy, which is the sanding sticks where you can replace the, with the different radiuses.
00:18:48
tyrellknifeworks
And just in time, cause I had to do the hand sanding on the dagger, which has got quad hollow grinds, right? Cause it's a dagger.
00:19:00
echo_blades
right ah That's awesome.
00:19:00
tyrellknifeworks
Um, so I was putting that to good use on the sand shark, um, doing those hollows and, uh, it was a lifesaver. So, uh, we're going to do a little cross promotion. I got a bunch of IG stuff to do, and I'll probably do some stories on, um, YouTube, some shorts rather. And, and there's another little, I'm not going to give the.
00:19:26
tyrellknifeworks
to let the cat out of the bag yet, but there might be a cool new attachment for the sand shark coming up that you're all gonna wanna see. So um it's still in development, but I think anyone with a sand shark is gonna want it.
00:19:42
tyrellknifeworks
And anyone that doesn't have a sand shark, you're gonna wanna look.
00:19:46
echo_blades
Cool. That's exciting. I can't wait.
00:19:48
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, yeah, it was, it made the sand shark even cooler.
00:19:55
echo_blades
I love that because it's pretty damn cool.
00:19:56
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. Yeah.
00:19:58
echo_blades
Really enjoyed it. Made short work of this, uh,
00:20:02
echo_blades
finishing up a, uh, I'm calling this profile, the reverb.
00:20:07
tyrellknifeworks
Reverb. I like it.
00:20:08
echo_blades
why um Yeah. And you want to ask why, why Jared? Why do you call this a river? Because you know what I never thought about when I was faking a name for a knife making venture with my buddies, you know, um, that I would ever have to like, I would lose out on the opportunity of like picking a, a forge name.
00:20:33
echo_blades
like you do, right? So your stuff is all sharks. Travis Haynes, bird forge, all birds, right? Like there's like endless amounts of, you know, names and and models and themes that you could do.
00:20:45
tyrellknifeworks
Themes, yeah.
00:20:47
echo_blades
So I just, I was like, okay, you know, thesaurus echo, I came up with reverb. So boom.
00:20:53
tyrellknifeworks
you should call you
00:20:56
echo_blades
Yeah. Don't get me yodeling dude. That's not cool.
00:21:02
echo_blades
But yeah, so that was the first one that came across and I was like, you know what? I'm going to do that. So that's, that's, that's what this is going to be. That's, that's the name of this.
00:21:09
tyrellknifeworks
So they're all going to be sound-related, echo, reverb, pontificate.
00:21:11
echo_blades
I'm going to, you're going to run out. Yeah. This one one's going to be called scream saying, I'm kidding. Yeah. Yell. Fuck off. no ah Shut up.
00:21:23
tyrellknifeworks
All right. Everyone send Jared good sound-related knife names in to the IG account, please.
00:21:33
echo_blades
Yes. Either that or they're all going to be nacho libre sayings.
00:21:39
tyrellknifeworks
That's okay too, I don't mind.
00:21:40
echo_blades
Yeah. Yeah. But, um, yeah, so that almost, that'll be done pretty quick here. Um, and what else finished up? This is my second sheath and really, really, really, really have settled into the fact that I did not enjoy it. Um,
00:22:00
tyrellknifeworks
It takes time to start to enjoy those.
00:22:02
echo_blades
I love, I was talking to to Brian when I was out there and i and he was, that's a really cool i am ideas. I would talk to him a little more before I, so I don't eff it up, but um he does leather work too.
00:22:19
echo_blades
And I asked him and I was like, I said, I just finished my second one. The first one I really enjoyed. Like I had a blast doing it, but it was more because I think it was just new and I was, had that going through something for the first time kind of energy about it.
00:22:33
echo_blades
And this one, it just, but I just didn't feel it. And, um, but I'm okay, right? It'll, it'll get through it.
00:22:39
tyrellknifeworks
but it looks good.
00:22:41
echo_blades
Yeah, it came out great.
Leathercraft Learning Journey
00:22:42
tyrellknifeworks
I don't know what you're complaining about.
00:22:42
echo_blades
I'm happy with it. I mean, it's not like, it's not great, but it looks like a second sheet to me. But, uh, I was like, Hey, do you, do you like doing leather work? And he goes, I do leather work.
00:22:54
echo_blades
Like I do it. And I was like, man, that is perfect. Cause that's kind of where, how I feel right now. You know what I mean? Like, cause there is and knives that don't deserve kydex to me a hundred percent.
00:23:04
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, absolutely.
00:23:06
tyrellknifeworks
And i would I would, I'm in that same boat as Brian. I mean, maybe I like it a little, you know, I hate getting started on sheaths. Like I've said this many times, like the whole cutting out the leather is the part that I just don't like.
00:23:20
tyrellknifeworks
And I don't know why it seems like such a simple thing, but once it's cut out in like the sheath shape, then ah then I can get going. It's like this dread of starting that gets me every time.
00:23:31
echo_blades
Yeah, I think you've you've said it many times in your in your video. And both videos on on leathermaking is all about the processes, right?
00:23:45
echo_blades
um And I think once you get that down, I think you just told me this time, you're like, I guess the you start to get into the groove when you start to when you're able to identify that, oh, hey, I want to do this.
00:23:56
echo_blades
But first, I got to do these couple things. So like, and then that starts a chain reaction, a movement.
00:24:01
echo_blades
and a groove in and now you're, now you're cooking with propane and off to the races.
00:24:07
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, it is definitely one of those like, you need to think about your, your step. before you do your step, you need to think about, oh, um I wanna do this step, so what do I need to do before that?
00:24:20
tyrellknifeworks
Before you jump, it this is the same in knife making when guys forget to drill their pinholes, right?
00:24:25
tyrellknifeworks
it's It's the same kind of thing you get excited about doing the next step and you don't think about that step, like what else you need to do.
00:24:31
echo_blades
Yeah, or youre you don't put your maker's mark on something like that, which is cool now that we have lasers, but that doesn't really factor in.
00:24:34
tyrellknifeworks
Right. Yeah.
00:24:40
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, yeah.
00:24:42
echo_blades
I was going to say.
00:24:43
tyrellknifeworks
But you can, you you have a laser now, you can put, you can laser etch your, yeah.
00:24:48
echo_blades
I didn't even freaking think about it. Two things, two things I want to talk about. Knife profiling in AutoCAD. Boo.
00:25:00
echo_blades
Brian was telling me, Oh, I have AutoCAD at work. And you know, our, I shouldn't say that, but it was, I have AutoCAD and I, and I like to do it. And, um, and I was trying to explain it to him, but he was very happy about explaining to me how much he loved doing it. And I was just like, I just can't do it. I've used AutoCAD for, for my entire life. And I just, I cannot find enjoyment in doing the knife design.
00:25:23
echo_blades
And then I, especially with knife print, because it's not really CAD, like my brain thinks in a different way. Um, and I totally spaced on the other thing.
00:25:33
tyrellknifeworks
But they my issue with I know how to use fusion 360 the issue I would have it's not Maybe, i'm sure I'm sure it is, but I can't do it fast enough. It's not free form enough. It's not like I can sit here and grab a node and drag it around and change the you know the the angle with the the handles, like I can do a knife print. like I feel like I'm sure I could design something in Fusion 360 2D, but it would take me 10 times longer than I could do in a knife print. That's my issue. I know knife print is not real CAD, but it's dumbed down to make for me to make it faster.
00:26:16
echo_blades
And I think it serves a great purpose being that dumbed down version. And you're right, it does kinda really highlight certain features that are useful and helpful and help speed up and knife profiling in CAD. It's just some of us, like like you're saying, your your brain thinks with what you learned with and what you're more comfortable with and you know that process, right? And it says it's reversed with me without a CAD.
00:26:44
echo_blades
Um, I totally spaced on the, on the second part of whatever I was going to say, but, uh, it'll probably come to me, but yeah. Um, I thought that was cool. Um, that he was, he doesn't know it yet, but he might be helping me. No,
00:27:02
echo_blades
you really liked it.
00:27:02
tyrellknifeworks
But he's going to help you with CAD.
00:27:03
echo_blades
I didn't know. He doesn't know that yet, but I was thinking about it while the whole time he was talking to me, I was like, Oh, he really liked this, huh? Maybe I'll help you out.
00:27:12
tyrellknifeworks
Oh, because your other asshole friend hasn't.
00:27:15
echo_blades
Bitch won't even fucking acknowledge that he's already said something. Oh, and then the other thing was I Have to do it because like I said, it's it's unfortunate but it is a part of life that sometimes you are right and I Just saw that I
00:27:31
tyrellknifeworks
Oh, I'm perked up now.
00:27:39
echo_blades
Did just see that ah so yeah there's there's Anyways, I purchased a, uh, a grooving tool off of Amazon.
00:27:49
echo_blades
And when I got the package, the tool that was on there wasn't what I bought. And I told you, and you were like, are you sure?
00:28:01
echo_blades
And I i said, yeah, but I haven't, I looked at it and then I put it down and so I took a picture of it and you're like, I think there's another, another part of that in that package. And there was. And so I ended up getting, getting what I needed and, and you were right.
00:28:15
echo_blades
Glad I didn't send it back or, or get pissed off and throw away.
00:28:18
echo_blades
Cause I was about to, I was like, yeah.
00:28:19
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. It was, it's the exact same one, like same brand that I ordered. So when I saw it, when you showed me the package, I'm like, you definitely it either that or it's somehow fallen out of the package, but it definitely, yeah.
00:28:27
echo_blades
It's it's in there.
00:28:31
echo_blades
Yeah. No, I found it. So you're right.
00:28:34
tyrellknifeworks
Nice. So ah but I want to go back to the sheath. So what was your favorite part of making the sheath?
00:28:43
tyrellknifeworks
What? Come on. of Of all the steps, is there one step that you like more than the others or like it's all equally boring and you don't like it?
00:28:55
echo_blades
I didn't enjoy much of it this time. I think it's because I, what I wanted to do was to maybe record the process more.
00:29:07
echo_blades
Um, I definitely wanted to make a template, which I didn't do. Like there's things that I wanted to do that are going to help me do this on my own so I can get productive and and practice. Right. So I feel like the next time we go, the next one I got to do, I got to go back there. Cause you know, we we were in a hurry when we were trying to squeeze this time into, to get that one thing done. Um, the,
00:29:33
echo_blades
Yeah. I can't really think that nothing was fun, to be honest with you. And I think it's because it was Saturday and I was just hanging out on my love sack. I enjoyed sitting, watching TV and burnishing the edge with the like, like the hand burnished because it was something that I could do outside of the shop.
00:29:45
tyrellknifeworks
All right. The banish burn.
00:29:52
echo_blades
Like I felt productive while I was doing nothing too. Um, but I, I think that was important. to see um the end product of what I was shooting for, right?
00:30:06
echo_blades
Seeing it not burnished and then burnishing it, not burnishing it enough, and then keep going back.
00:30:10
echo_blades
and there I just need to do more of that.
00:30:14
tyrellknifeworks
yeah the
00:30:14
echo_blades
Stitching was lame. I think, like I said last time, yeah the beginner toolset that you Recommend is bullshit, but I agree it was worth it because you're gonna have to all the tools instead of breaking needles and Trying to find shit, but this just all comes down to an experience and not knowing what anything was Sure,
00:30:33
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. And you need those basic tools to understand which ones you need and you you're slowly going to replace a few of them, but yeah.
00:30:41
echo_blades
yeah 100% I agree I just like busting your balls more anything. Thank you just in there
00:30:46
tyrellknifeworks
But I was wondering if, because what what I like doing, and i honestly, I don't mind the stitching. the stitch Most people hate it, but I find that pretty therapeutic. But the other thing that I like is actually doing the um the tooling on the leather, like doing the the patterning and the stamping.
00:31:02
echo_blades
That is probably the more, the most creative. You feel during the process, like artistic, if, if you will, you know, um, there's a shit load of tools that come in that are patterns that come in that little, uh, kit.
00:31:09
tyrellknifeworks
yeah yeah
00:31:19
echo_blades
So I could easily see ah when I'm starting to think about how I, the, the little, I'm going to call it lame, but the little pattern I did around. the edge of of the line, makes you really respect and and appreciate when people do those intricate basket, you know, patterns throughout on the whole face of the sheath and thousands.
00:31:43
echo_blades
Yeah, there's a lot to be said there.
00:31:45
tyrellknifeworks
and for And for those, for you and for anyone that's going to, you know, thinking about doing those kind of basket weave pattern, buy a quality stamp.
00:31:56
tyrellknifeworks
it makes a huge difference. If you use the cheap stamps, um they're never gonna line up. you're You're gonna get frustrated. You want one that has like, you know if it's like a honeycomb, you want one that has like three or four of the honeycomb, so it's easy to match.
00:32:13
echo_blades
I could totally see that now. Yes, I can totally see that.
00:32:16
tyrellknifeworks
Uh, because I've tried to use the basket weave that comes in that little kit and it looks like a fucking blind person did it.
00:32:27
tyrellknifeworks
Like it just like the lines are, you know, wavy as hell. And it's just a nightmare.
00:32:33
echo_blades
That's funny.
00:32:35
echo_blades
I did just remember the part two of the the two things. So it's it's the knife designing and then in the laser peckering. I don't know what it is. I do not find any, I was so stoked to get that laser, like with the opportunities and the abilities I was going to have to, to make things, you know, cause the, the LP four has a diode and the infrared, right?
00:32:59
echo_blades
So it didn't even cross my mind to do it on this leather sheet until ah after I was done.
00:33:06
tyrellknifeworks
No, are you can. Yeah, no, you can even when you're done, like then get a get a good image and do a little test piece on a little test piece of leather, but.
00:33:17
tyrellknifeworks
um No, I do it at the very end after it's been done.
00:33:17
echo_blades
It's not going to mess up the the dyed leather. Huh. Oh, okay. Well, there you go.
00:33:23
echo_blades
Maybe I, maybe I still have some time.
00:33:25
tyrellknifeworks
but look up. I think it has a leather setting, but try it. um and and you should if you If you have a piece that's dyed, you should probably dye a piece and try it because it will make a difference when it's colored.
00:33:38
tyrellknifeworks
But um yeah, and you can make it as deep or as sort of superficial as you want.
00:33:43
tyrellknifeworks
And it it comes out nice. I've i've done it for for folks before.
Knife Design: Traditional vs Digital
00:33:49
tyrellknifeworks
I mean, I have that stamp with my maker's mark, like my logo that I put on sheaths, but way, way before.
00:33:57
tyrellknifeworks
her And I still use that because I think it looks cool. but um And it's one last thing I have to use the laser for.
00:34:05
echo_blades
ah Again, meant it's like, it's like having, having all the ambition to, to get every single attachment on your 2x72. And you end up buying another fucking grinder because you don't want to change attachments.
00:34:17
echo_blades
like That's how I feel about the lasers. You know, like, I don't, I don't even want to be bothered with pulling them out.
00:34:23
tyrellknifeworks
Well, I mean, no, no, you're absolutely not.
00:34:23
echo_blades
Maybe did somebody back me up or tell me I'm being stupid. because
00:34:27
tyrellknifeworks
I agree with you. The only reason I'm okay with it is because I have a permanent desk that has my laser on it in the office and that.
00:34:32
echo_blades
i and Amen, brother. Amen. Because I am now, going to take over one of the rooms in the house and make a, make a leather room in a, in a laser room because it definitely keeping the leather work area separate from the dirty ass shop is a plus.
00:34:55
tyrellknifeworks
If I didn't have so much other shit going on in this office, I would move my leather work up here, but I got the light box and I have the 3D printer and I've got the laser, which is massive.
00:35:05
tyrellknifeworks
And I don't have them. I've got two desks side by side and they're both totally full.
00:35:10
echo_blades
Yep, they are. I'm seeing it.
00:35:12
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. But, but, um, what did I do? And besides that, what did, Oh, I, I etched the dagger today. Um, so the only thing I have left on the dagger is to do the hot black, the hot salts for all the fittings, which I will do tomorrow morning and be done with this thing.
00:35:33
tyrellknifeworks
Cause I feel like it's dragging and it's been a pain in the ass. So.
00:35:38
echo_blades
It's been an absolute pleasure, pleasure to watch you kind of toil and not struggle with it. But I think when I was doing the sheath, you were messing with the, uh, the inlet and my favorite thing.
00:35:51
echo_blades
I'm doing this master style or something. I laughed about that on the way home.
00:35:57
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, it's I was trying not to cut any corners because when you do the wire inlay on the master on the quill quill and dagger for the master Smith test, you're not allowed to glue the wire in place it has to be pressure fit.
00:35:59
echo_blades
No cutting corners, right?
00:36:17
tyrellknifeworks
I was swearing so much yesterday when I was putting that wire in those holes, because I did it yesterday morning. i like i was I wasn't going to, but I was tempted to throw that handle across the room because every time I would put it in there, it would like pop out in one area.
00:36:35
tyrellknifeworks
It was like playing whack-a-mole.
00:36:38
tyrellknifeworks
But I finally got it in and done, and it and looks really good, so I'm happy.
00:36:45
tyrellknifeworks
I'll be happy when all the fittings are black and I can put the damn thing together, call it done and, you know, get the video out. But if I get really energetic, I think, yeah, I think I'll get the build, excuse me, the build video out for Saturday, which would be good.
00:37:02
echo_blades
Oh, that's cool. That's great.
Future Projects and Collaborations
00:37:04
echo_blades
Yeah. Do that.
00:37:05
echo_blades
So I can watch it on my way up to Reno.
00:37:10
tyrellknifeworks
Oh, yes, you're going to see my friend, Rick.
00:37:14
echo_blades
Your friend a loty he definitely likes me better.
00:37:20
tyrellknifeworks
Well yeah, he breaks your shit.
00:37:22
echo_blades
Yeah. I know. Wait a minute. I already think that.
00:37:27
echo_blades
Yeah. So I, I just, I just informed him today actually that I was like, Hey buddy, really sorry for the short notice. I know we were kind of planning this month, but if I don't do it this weekend, I'm not going to be able to do it until after makers count. So, and I wanted to make sure I, I got up there. So it's not in stone yet, but, um, if all goes well, I will be, uh,
00:37:52
echo_blades
jumping in the car early Saturday morning and and heading up to go go see our buddy. Maybe Friday evening, but I'm i'm probably not going to do that, um but I will have the opportunity to.
00:38:05
echo_blades
get my two bastards fat pain, straight and diagonal, and get to grip it and rip it. Because you know what? It's pretty damn grand to have a fat pain in your hands, sir. And if you're looking for a new ah hammer, make sure you go check out Frank and Anita at two bastards hammers and tell them that the boys over at Triple T sent you.
00:38:33
echo_blades
top quality, awesome stuff. And in hot, fresh off the the press here, the Vaquero special maritime knife supply edition is back in stock.
00:38:47
echo_blades
And I do know that because Lawrence said so.
00:38:48
tyrellknifeworks
Nice. All right, nice.
00:38:53
echo_blades
And while you're at it, if you're needing any kind of knife making materials and supplies, you should go check out maritime knife supply dot.com or dot.ca. I think there's two websites now, one for Canada and one for America. I did that.
00:39:09
tyrellknifeworks
I'm laughing at something else, but yeah, go ahead.
00:39:11
echo_blades
and Oh, fuck off. That was down. Thought that was good. Um, yeah, for all your knife making needs from, from hammers to Drills to handle material to steal he'll cut your steel pre-cut it for your Damascus adventures and Everything else you need grinders. I just actually put in an order ah Last week first time in a while. I've been sitting pretty good now, but the he also is stocking the Condersal the high temp paint for stainless steel treatment, which Dennis is completely, again, I guess, damn, it's you your episode, has convinced me that is the way to go for heat treating stainless. So I'm excited to get my hands on that and grab the giant piece of A-E-B-L. So I'm stoked. I also got a two by 72 leather belt.
00:40:09
tyrellknifeworks
Oh yeah.
00:40:09
echo_blades
Well, I think it'll ship.
00:40:09
tyrellknifeworks
So soon to be two by 200.
00:40:10
echo_blades
that Yeah. Yeah. It'll, it'll ship that way, but it won't be that way for long because I will leave that bitch on the grinder.
00:40:18
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. Yeah. You will have, I just thought of a really rude, inappropriate joke that now I'm not going to tell like, but you would stretch it out like something.
00:40:30
echo_blades
Oh Lord. Put it in reverse, Terry.
00:40:38
tyrellknifeworks
But You're talking about maritime reminded me of the last week's last week. Yeah, this is next week. Um, last week's triple T episode where, uh, that's why I was laughing because I'm reading your comment underneath.
00:40:53
echo_blades
and I knew it was me.
00:40:55
tyrellknifeworks
Um, putting in the DRO for, uh, the drill press. So I've got a big standup drill press, uh, which I really like. It's, it's pretty accurate drill press, but, uh, I'm going to be doing the folder class, the folder series. So building a liner lock folder for folks that want to get into folders. And that's going to start this Thursday. Talk more about that in a second, but to, in order to do that, you either need a mill.
00:41:22
tyrellknifeworks
Okay. Or you need some way, you need something that's going to give you a depth. Um, so putting a DRO on your drill press is the way to go. And it's cheap. The one that Lawrence sells. And this is the only reason why I saw this and we'll get back to Jared's comment. But, but um, I saw this while perusing maritime knife supply and I see drill press DRO and I'm like, what the F?
00:41:51
tyrellknifeworks
Um, looked at it like $37 purchase and, uh, it set it up. It works perfectly. And Jared seems to think that he told me this and I poo pooed it.
00:42:05
tyrellknifeworks
Um, but now it's cool. I don't ever remember you telling me you had one of these.
00:42:09
echo_blades
because you don't listen to anything I say, sir.
00:42:12
tyrellknifeworks
That's not true.
00:42:12
echo_blades
And this is a fun fact, everybody. ah I love my buddy a lot. I really do. But one thing he is not good at is taking a suggestion, right? If he doesn't come up with it, it's not cool.
00:42:25
echo_blades
I've had this fucking DRO for at least six months.
00:42:28
tyrellknifeworks
I've never, I've never heard you talk about it ever.
00:42:28
echo_blades
And I... Yeah, because you don't listen to me, apparently.
00:42:33
tyrellknifeworks
Then I didn't understand what you were saying.
00:42:35
echo_blades
Yeah. Cause you're like, that's stupid. Who would want to do that? but maybe and you can you do that No one's going to make liner locks. but Not that that's why I bought it, but I got it because I was trying to get the depths of my goal.
00:42:47
echo_blades
So bolts, um, dialed in, which is another um application for that. Um, however, the. Drill that I installed it on.
00:42:59
echo_blades
I had to use that clamp that you threw away.
00:43:05
echo_blades
Uh, and it didn't quite work out, um, with, yeah, it was kind of angling in and I couldn't, it it would, it was very difficult for it to get back to center.
00:43:09
tyrellknifeworks
Wasn't tight enough. Had a little movement, you said.
00:43:18
echo_blades
Um, but I may switch it over to, to the big drill press.
00:43:22
echo_blades
Um, that's the same setup as yours. So, uh, I thought it was extremely awesome. Like. last year or something. But ah now that Dennis thinks it's cool, everybody go get yourself one because if Dennis says it, it's awesome.
00:43:34
tyrellknifeworks
Oh, well I had, and you you say that I don't listen to things, but I had a suggestion in the comments on that video for a guy that said he just bought one for his rolling mill. And I was like, oh, that's genius. So I'm going to buy one and put one on my rolling mill. So, cause one of the things that's always a pain in the butt is to know how close the rollers are in the rolling mill.
00:44:02
tyrellknifeworks
So it would be really cool to zero it when they touch, and then you'll know exactly how wide the jaws are on the rolling mill.
00:44:12
tyrellknifeworks
So that's gonna happen.
00:44:12
echo_blades
Great suggestion, sir.
00:44:14
tyrellknifeworks
That's gonna happen.
00:44:14
echo_blades
And kudos to you for getting Dennis to take that suggestion because I've not been able to.
00:44:18
tyrellknifeworks
yeah i Yeah, I replied right to him going, yeah, that's some genius thinking right there. So that one's gonna happen.
00:44:25
echo_blades
Yeah, that is pretty cool. But yeah, it's an awesome product. Go check it out. Go grab one while they're still there. um And yeah, that's the business.
00:44:37
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. But, uh, what else? Yeah. So, Oh, so I want to talk a little more about the folder series. So the, um, Thursday, this Thursday's video is mostly going to be on it's.
00:44:53
tyrellknifeworks
it Honestly, I think it's probably one of the most important parts of the series. Although, you know, and people are like, Oh, it I mean, it's going to be designing.
00:45:00
echo_blades
boring is yeah
00:45:04
tyrellknifeworks
What is important about the design of a liner lock? And we're going to go through the design. We're going to show the, I'm going to use knife print and I'm going to show the pivot and I'm going to show, Hey, this part has to be here.
00:45:16
tyrellknifeworks
You need clearance here. You need clearance here. This has got to go here. And I'm going to describe why things need to go where they're where they are. And then that's most of the, the, the episode.
00:45:25
echo_blades
The boring-est.
00:45:29
tyrellknifeworks
And then the other part of the episode is what tooling you're going to need and why you're going to need that tooling from. disc grinders to you know drills and DROs and the big stuff, but also what drill sizes and types are you going to need? You're going to need reamers. You're going to need ah taps. What size taps? ah What kind of a what kind of um material are you going to need? We're going to be using titanium. What does that mean? What kind of titanium you're going to need? All of this stuff we're going to discuss in the first episode
00:46:03
tyrellknifeworks
so you guys can go order that stuff and get ready follow along on the future episodes if you want to follow along or at least think about what you're going to go to need to get into this stuff because I warn you it the material alone when you get into folders all those damn little screws all of those pivots they're all expensive um not to mention the little carbide drills that you're going to need every one of those 15 bucks pop you're probably going to need 15 of them.
00:46:34
tyrellknifeworks
So what it's not cheap to get into them. So be warned.
00:46:39
tyrellknifeworks
But, but should be a fun series. And I think a lot of I know a lot of people are looking forward to this one. So it'll, it'll, it'll get people's feet wet.
00:46:46
echo_blades
Yeah, I agree.
00:46:52
echo_blades
Yeah, so if all goes well, though, in in Reno, I haven't decided what but I want to do, but if I leave it up to Rick, I'll be making my first hidden Tang buoy.
Advanced Knife Making Techniques
00:47:08
tyrellknifeworks
I love it. Rick, make him do it. That's, that's a pretty tall order for a weekend though.
00:47:16
echo_blades
ah but get close enough.
00:47:18
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. I mean, he's going to want you to, he's going to want to show you or want you to forge something on the power hammer. For sure.
00:47:24
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. Like forge a knife from stock on the power hammer, which is cool. I've never done it.
00:47:29
tyrellknifeworks
I mean, like well um the only thing I've done is what we did with the throwing knives.
00:47:33
echo_blades
Yeah. And and same here. um But although I am really, really interested in, needing to swing the hammer too.
00:47:43
echo_blades
So I don't know. It's going to be a quick weekend. I know it was, we'll get started, but I am super grateful and super excited. And I haven't, like I said, I haven't finalized it, but I am hoping that everything works out and I get to get up there and, and, and hang out with our, with our buddy is good dude.
00:47:57
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. Yeah.
00:48:00
tyrellknifeworks
And not many people have a shop laid out like he does with every single tool, multiples of each tool and fun toys and power hammers and Hey, get him, get him to crank up the salt bath and he treated the salt bath.
00:48:15
echo_blades
Isn't that dangerous?
00:48:17
tyrellknifeworks
Don't be a pussy.
00:48:21
echo_blades
Let's just get that out of the way.
00:48:25
tyrellknifeworks
Uh, it's honestly, it's something I'm starting to consider. I would love to be able to have the, uh, the salt bath.
00:48:31
echo_blades
I don't, I have never even seen it done. I had no zero about it. um I will definitely ask him about it and have him explain the process and maybe we'll do it.
00:48:45
tyrellknifeworks
Cause then for, for stainless that would take away your need for Condersal altogether.
00:48:51
echo_blades
I don't understand. I want to maybe another time, but
00:48:54
tyrellknifeworks
It. Molten salt, it's liquid salt. Instead of going into an oven, you're going into molten salt. That is, whatever the temp you would set your oven at, that's the temp you set your salt at.
00:49:04
echo_blades
Do you dip it and pull it out or do you let it soak?
00:49:06
tyrellknifeworks
No, it stays in there. like you're Whatever your' you're your soak time, you're soaking in the salt.
00:49:09
echo_blades
Oh, soak time. Okay.
00:49:13
echo_blades
And what makes it dangerous? Cause I have heard a couple of people say like shaking, go boom.
00:49:17
tyrellknifeworks
If any any liquid whatsoever hits
00:49:18
echo_blades
You get water.
00:49:22
tyrellknifeworks
1900 degrees salt, it's not going to be good.
00:49:26
tyrellknifeworks
It will erupt like a volcano. So, but there's zero, like it comes out like zero scale because there's zero oxygen.
00:49:29
echo_blades
ah All right.
00:49:38
echo_blades
Oh yeah. Okay.
00:49:40
tyrellknifeworks
So your steel, your steel comes out like crystal clear.
00:49:41
echo_blades
I'm following now.
00:49:47
echo_blades
Oh, I have a couple, uh, maybe I'll Jared some shit up and take it up there just to eat treat.
00:49:54
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I, I, and just cause I've talked to Rick and multiple occasions about the salt bath and he's like, Oh yeah, I do all my fittings in it.
00:50:03
tyrellknifeworks
And you know, cause there's no scale. There's no.
00:50:07
echo_blades
Ooh. Hey, Rick, we may not be doing shit. not Nice.
00:50:13
tyrellknifeworks
Uh, if, you know, there are a couple of thousand dollars, um, probably closer to three, uh, you know, it's akin to a kiln buying a kiln.
00:50:24
tyrellknifeworks
You're basically buying a kiln with a pot in it that you put salt in.
00:50:31
echo_blades
Interesting. I, I, I've only heard about it and never given it to Two seconds of thought passed. I think you mentioning it before.
00:50:41
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, i had I had a talk with Spencer from Even Heat at Blade Show just, hey, what do you need? What's the setup? And he he took me through it and because they sell them now.
00:50:52
tyrellknifeworks
So, you know.
00:50:54
echo_blades
Good guys. Good guys over there. Do you need?
00:50:57
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. And I, I think they're going to start to become more popular as more people use them. It's definitely not a beginner thing at all.
00:51:05
tyrellknifeworks
Like yeah there's some, there are safety issues. you You can't, you don't want to do it outside. You don't want to do it. There was this, there was a story of a guy, um, doing it outside and, um, a bird shit in his salt bath and erupted.
00:51:22
tyrellknifeworks
Like, um, I don't know who that was, but I've heard that story before.
00:51:27
echo_blades
Oh, yeah. Fun fact is that, uh, while I, California is a very special place, right? So, um, I don't drink anymore. Um, my only vice is, is tobacco and my beautiful state here doesn't allow us to, uh,
00:51:51
echo_blades
have flavored or menthol cigarettes vapes or or anything. Like, so it's just standard.
00:51:58
tyrellknifeworks
But that's pretty recent, right? That's recent.
00:52:00
echo_blades
This is very recent, like but within the last year or so.
00:52:04
echo_blades
So, you know, one day I go to get something and they're like, no, you can't get that anymore. I'm like, what the fuck? So every time I travel outside of the state, I feel like I'm a freaking junkie.
00:52:17
echo_blades
Cause I'm going to gas stations and loading up on Reno.
00:52:21
tyrellknifeworks
I remember when we were in Reno last time, you wanted to go, you wanted to make a stop.
00:52:25
echo_blades
i reno When I, when I went to Georgia and Florida, I'm coming back with like, it's like, good Lord. And it's like super expensive out here too. And it's a lot cheaper other places, but yeah, I did the same thing and in Idaho. I just kind of emptied my bag. I'm like, this is, this is a little bit excessive. And I'm like, Oh shit, I'm going to Reno next weekend. I'll get some more.
00:52:46
tyrellknifeworks
Hey, you're going to New York in next month. You're gonna get...
00:52:48
echo_blades
Well, I'm trying to plan so I can stay ahead of this shit. Cause I ran out from, uh, yeah.
00:52:55
tyrellknifeworks
Dude, you have a problem.
00:52:55
echo_blades
and Well, I do, but tell me that when they stopped selling Corona's, you'd be traveling out of state to take a cruises on duty free shit.
00:53:01
tyrellknifeworks
Oh yeah, okay. ah
00:53:07
echo_blades
Um, I just say, yeah, I feel like I'm fricking flavored tobacco junkie right now.
00:53:13
tyrellknifeworks
Well, it could be worse.
00:53:15
echo_blades
I guess it can.
00:53:17
tyrellknifeworks
yeah You know what would be really bad with that salt pot? You know what kind of bird would have like a giant poop?
00:53:24
tyrellknifeworks
A pelican!
00:53:28
tyrellknifeworks
That kind of pelican paste you don't want, but what you do want is the pelican paste wax from our buddy Travis. ah So get yourself some pelican paste, hard wax, soft wax, pelican oil, hand salve,
00:53:42
tyrellknifeworks
Uh, and, uh, the, uh, the new hand soap. So, uh, get your, get yourself some Pelican paste, use the discount code triple T 10, uh, and keep it out of your hot salt pot, even though it's wax, uh, probably not good for it.
Community and Camaraderie in Knife Making
00:53:58
tyrellknifeworks
Not good for you.
00:53:58
echo_blades
It's the shit yeah oh I have zero idea.
00:54:04
tyrellknifeworks
How big is the Pelican poop? That must be huge.
00:54:14
tyrellknifeworks
I mean, they're the size of Canadian geese. You know what they look like. They look like you got turds like the size of my dogs.
00:54:17
echo_blades
I don't really.
00:54:22
tyrellknifeworks
ah You've never seen Canada goose.
00:54:25
echo_blades
No, I live. No.
00:54:31
tyrellknifeworks
I don't believe you. You've never seen.
00:54:33
echo_blades
I'm not lying. Look at my face. This, this ain't a promise face.
00:54:36
tyrellknifeworks
yeah I mean, you've seen the Canada goose.
00:54:38
echo_blades
I'm telling you.
00:54:41
tyrellknifeworks
You just never seen its poop.
00:54:44
echo_blades
I I'm coming up with zero. i'm I'll Google them. Can I be a Connecticut goose right now?
00:54:48
tyrellknifeworks
Oh, come on. That is our one gift to the US is the Canada geese. You know, the great Cobra chicken gooses.
00:54:57
echo_blades
No, I hear our buddy Luke see it on our, on our homies. That's a little grind, but that's just a regular goose.
00:55:05
tyrellknifeworks
Oh, they're Canada geese, buddy. We own them. We just loan them to the US. Actually, we, we export them.
00:55:15
echo_blades
And they, they take dog sized shits.
00:55:19
tyrellknifeworks
Totally. And they're green and disgusting and they litter beaches and it's gross. When when I worked at Oracle, um we had the big pond, you know, in the marine world, used to be the marine world pond. You know what I mean, in Redwood City?
00:55:36
echo_blades
I do actually.
00:55:36
tyrellknifeworks
OK, so the Oracle buildings are inundated with Candida geese because they love that friggin pond. So there's one guy's job where all he does every day is walk down the path with the pressure washer every damn day and clean off the goose poop. Full time job goose poop washer.
00:55:58
echo_blades
Cause they're leftover from.
00:56:00
tyrellknifeworks
No, because they like they they're there all the time. The Canada geese are there all the time, walking down the path, pooping and, uh, there's shit everywhere.
00:56:11
echo_blades
It's the Oracle pooper scooper.
00:56:13
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, exactly. Could you imagine that as a title?
00:56:15
tyrellknifeworks
I am the, I am the, the duck fart wash.
00:56:27
echo_blades
No, no, that's not cool. But anyways, yeah, I agree. All that.
00:56:34
echo_blades
Uh, what do we got here?
00:56:36
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, what what else you got?
00:56:37
echo_blades
Oh, oo so coming up on a year from my buddy, Andy, his, uh, wedding where we had, uh, oh, my, my buddies.
00:56:52
echo_blades
It's the last time we've been together. Um, he's originally from California and moved out to North Carolina. He's the dude that, had his co-worker come up to him and say, um oh, you're go you're going to blade show?
00:57:05
echo_blades
He's like, oh, my buddy makes knives. And the the dude shows my friend a picture of you and I together.
00:57:12
tyrellknifeworks
Oh, yes. Yeah.
00:57:13
echo_blades
And he's like, that's my friend. He's like, no, that's my friend. And they're like, what the fuck? that's That story still freaks me out.
00:57:20
echo_blades
But he's out in North Carolina now. Yeah, North Carolina, Charlotte.
00:57:27
echo_blades
He's coming up on a year of his wedding. and i gave a made a knife for him and his in his beautiful wife and they actually used it to cut the wedding cake.
00:57:37
echo_blades
This is prior to um laser pecker days.
00:57:43
echo_blades
So I just dawned on me that they're coming up on on their year and I was like, dude, send me and and I have a theme with all those those knives, right? I have the the wave cutter, the cake cutter, the panini cutter.
00:57:56
echo_blades
um So I was like, dude, send me the cake cutter back and I will appropriately etch it the cake cutter and put your, you know, the anniversary date and all that stuff. So I'm pretty, so pretty stoked about that.
00:58:09
tyrellknifeworks
See, see, you like the laser now.
00:58:12
echo_blades
There's awesome things about it. And then I got to do some custom lasering on the on the Intrepid 2.0 that's gonna go out too. um So yeah, the opportunities to make that product just a little bit more special with the lasers is infinite. I just don't like doing it.
00:58:33
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, not my it's not my favorite thing to do. It's kind of like those. And now it's at least the very last thing I do after the knife is sharp.
00:58:41
echo_blades
I do love that. I do love that.
00:58:43
tyrellknifeworks
That part I love, because the believe me, I like electro etching 10 times less than I like the lasering.
00:58:52
echo_blades
I still like the way how deep those and dark you can get your electro edge, but yeah, that shit sucked. In fact, when I was making the. the cake cutter and the panini cutter, I etched the one of them and I fucked up the tape around and I etched a deep ass line above my maker's mark and I had to like fucking sand that back forever, dude.
00:59:16
tyrellknifeworks
Yes, I remember. I remember when you did that.
00:59:19
echo_blades
So that I never will ever have to do again. In fact, as soon as I got the laser picker, I gave it to my buddy, Derek, because I built that thing from Redbeard's DIY.
00:59:30
echo_blades
Um, etcher thing that he he has a video on.
00:59:32
tyrellknifeworks
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah, the electrowet thing, yeah.
00:59:34
echo_blades
Yeah. Yeah. Um, I gave it away. Right. So it's like, this thing better work.
00:59:41
echo_blades
That's how much I enjoyed that one.
00:59:45
echo_blades
Um, uh, and then, and I have, ah um, I was, I was scrolling through, uh, Instagram not too long ago and noticed that one of our former, um,
00:59:45
tyrellknifeworks
Oh, no, no, finish.
00:59:58
echo_blades
Maker Spotlights, Brad over at Old Glory um Knives Forge. I think it's Knives. um Had a bunch of his flagship model, but it was, I think it's Baker's Steel. And he's got a YouTube channel. And so I was checking out the the build on that. So I told him I wanted to give him a shout out and let everybody know that he's got a YouTube channel.
01:00:26
echo_blades
And, uh, to go check that out and show our, uh, our homies some love. So let's get them up to, to Dennis status.
01:00:32
tyrellknifeworks
nice so it's old old glory knives youtube channel all right we'll we'll have to go check that one out uh speaking of youtube i'm finally tomorrow it was supposed to be today but i delayed it because Adam came over i'm finally going to start my apocalyptic challenge build tomorrow so uh i'll be doing some forging tomorrow i've also changed
01:01:01
tyrellknifeworks
what I was gonna build. So what I told you is not what I'm gonna build. I'm gonna build something else. So you'll see.
01:01:10
echo_blades
You can't fucking switch.
01:01:12
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, I can. I haven't even started. I haven't even recorded one second video yet. So yeah, gonna change.
01:01:23
tyrellknifeworks
So I'll be doing it alongside my my folder series. So hopefully both will be done. ah The folder series will probably be like four or five episodes at least. So we'll see. I'm hoping, I got to get it done before maker camp. So I'm going on, what are we at? The 10th, yeah. So we have, I have a month. I have a month to use this build. So I'll probably stretch it out across a couple other projects. Cause I got to, I got to get some of these.
01:01:51
tyrellknifeworks
um ah Chef knives and other like I got to get some stock ready for Black Friday kind of stuff So I want to get a bunch of that stuff and done now because I got some commissions Starting in November then I'm gonna keep me busy October November ish so That's the That's the reality and I mean this is not something I should complain about but I
01:02:22
tyrellknifeworks
I think I've answered four emails in the last week about, I'm on a copper Katana, how much are those gonna cost? And I'm like, I'm so sick of taking, like i've i've taken I have three three items in the commissions list for those and I haven't even made them yet and I'm already dreading um having to make those.
01:02:45
tyrellknifeworks
So I don't know that I want to add any more to my list of commissions. So that, that build may go on hiatus for awhile. So we'll see, but I shouldn't complain about having business, but it, uh, it's not the kind of thing I want to do, but yeah.
01:03:06
echo_blades
You could do it. You're going to be fine.
01:03:09
tyrellknifeworks
So maker spotlights. Um, who you got this week?
01:03:19
echo_blades
The YouTube for oh, glory knives is Brad W. But if you go to his IG at olglory, ol underscore glory, underscore knives, there's a link in his bio to take you there.
01:03:33
echo_blades
There you go, check out that bill. And it is Baker Forged and he's building it for some organization there. So anyways, I didn't want to make that up. I said olglory forged and I was wrong, so I apologize.
01:03:44
echo_blades
I want to make sure I said that. Shout out Brad Wilson. So I have our buddy, Brian Hunt from Hidden Rose Forge.
01:03:57
echo_blades
Like I said, just got the opportunity to go hang out at his shop and again, super appreciative for that.
01:04:09
echo_blades
But Brian does awesome stuff. And, uh, if you're not following me currently right now, he's got 1,005 followers. Um, and it is Brian hunt dot hidden Rose forge.
01:04:24
echo_blades
Um, he's out of Idaho and makes a couple of like standard miles of rave runner and, uh, a couple of things, but what he's really been doing recently is, um, he got the, uh, the Ameribrade hyperdisc and it's kind of helped him, uh, make these segmented scales. So for like us, we're doing, um, uh, like me, I should say I save all of these cutoffs.
01:04:53
echo_blades
uh, from every handle that I do with the intent of one day making, uh, some either, you know, a beads of some kind, you know, or the segmented skills, but he's killing it right now. He showed me a bunch of them and kind of went through the process and stuff. So, um, I dig what he does. He's a good dude. Um, and go check him out.
01:05:17
tyrellknifeworks
Nice. Yeah. Well, I mean, we both met Brian before in person. Uh, great dude. Good, good guy.
01:05:24
echo_blades
Yeah. If you're going to go to a blade West, he'll be out there this year.
01:05:27
tyrellknifeworks
No, nice.
01:05:27
echo_blades
So, um, go look at him. and I told him we're not, we won't be there this year. We're not doing both, but yep.
01:05:34
tyrellknifeworks
No, no. Um, my maker spotlight this week, because I've been going back and forth with, um, Mr. Kyle daily at cage daily knives.
01:05:44
tyrellknifeworks
Uh, I figured I would put him on my maker spotlight. Um, go check out Kyle. Great dude. Um, you know, does make some great knives, but also has got a lot of stuff in his website for knife makers. Uh, the sanding buddy, which I've spoke about, um, basically it's like a, um, a stick to hold your sandpaper and you can put different radiuses on really cool.
01:06:08
tyrellknifeworks
Works well with the sand sharks. So stay tuned. There'll be something coming there, but he's got a bunch of other things as well um um Just really smart guy He's an engineer by trade because he's He does a lot of engineering things does a lot of 3d printed little tools for knife makers So go check him out. He's also the host of the knife perspective podcast So check that out as well. It's in our list of of other podcasts to check out in the in the show notes.
01:06:41
echo_blades
Yep. Kyle's a great dude, man. I, one of the nicest guys, I think, you know, we just went through that whole bunch of the nicest guys in our community fighting. I think that was great. But yeah, cool dude does all the file work classes at blade show a lot of tools to help kind of move along the knife making process. I myself use his sanding stick.
01:07:07
echo_blades
The piece of G10 that he has, it's flat on the bottom. It's got some radiuses on it. It is my go-to. um I've tried all kinds of different sanding sticks, but and he puts the, it's got some rubber, different hardnesses of rubber for, as you go up on the grit to kind of hardback a little softer and then real soft to help you kind of blend stuff in. um But that's the thing. I got his 3D printed his glue holder and his pin tray. And so he's always got a bunch of cool stuff. So yeah, I agree. Good dude and makes bitch and stuff too. So.
01:07:48
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. Yeah. So go check those guys out. Give them some love if you don't already follow them. And, uh, yeah.
01:07:54
echo_blades
Oh, shit, he just gave me a shout out the other day because ah Check this out, he was jarriting a knife.
01:08:03
tyrellknifeworks
Are you happy that your name has become a household verb?
01:08:07
echo_blades
i I'm not angry at it. You know what, because there's shit I can do about it. You might as well embrace it, but I do get a kick out of it when yeah like Brian opened up his drawer and said, this is my Jared drawer. But Kyle too, he was he was profiling on a big contact wheel.
01:08:29
tyrellknifeworks
Yes, I've seen his post on that.
01:08:33
echo_blades
Yeah, um and that's the one I have never thought of to do that.
01:08:38
tyrellknifeworks
I've I've heard people say that because the serrated wheel is the best way to remove material. um I just never this comes down to one of those lazy things.
01:08:48
tyrellknifeworks
I never want to go and put the the wheel on to do like just to switch it for something like that, but.
01:08:51
echo_blades
The wheel on, yeah. Yeah, um I agree, but it's... Yeah, I think he was making short work of this, uh, this Jared ding he was doing.
01:09:06
echo_blades
So, um, yeah, sorry. I i meant to mention that earlier, but yeah I'm considering it heavily.
01:09:09
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. Yeah. i' I honestly, you know, I've never profiled on a wheel, so maybe I'll have to try it sometime. And if it's like radically faster, maybe I have to put that in my rotation.
01:09:24
tyrellknifeworks
Especially like the big, you have a big 10 inch serrated wheel, right?
01:09:27
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. Yeah.
01:09:29
echo_blades
I think, yeah, I think it is sentence.
01:09:29
tyrellknifeworks
Just the serrations really, really tear up steel, especially with one of those, like either like the razor star or like an act of rocks or something like that.
01:09:41
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, but um did we talk about Mr. Mr. Baker? um Yeah, so I'm going to be forging tomorrow and I'm going to be making some copper in Damascus. But if I wasn't going to make copper in Damascus, I would be buying it from Baker Forge because these guys are the pioneers. ah So go get yourself some some awesome steel at Baker Forge and Tool and when you're ready to etch that steel, got to get yourself some Gator Piss ah because it is the etchant superior
01:10:19
tyrellknifeworks
um ah for any kind of Damascus, copper Damascus, any of those. And use your discount code TTT10, get 10% off that order. Do you know how the um the steel showdown is going? Have you been following that?
01:10:38
echo_blades
Um, I did not catch it this week.
01:10:41
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, I didn't either.
01:10:41
echo_blades
Um, but I do know that, yeah, in, in our, one of our other beautiful sponsors, uh, maritime nice supply has just got a new, uh, shipment of some Baker steel.
01:10:54
echo_blades
And, um, he has Gator piss there. If you're over there with those goosesses.
01:11:03
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, i thought I thought it was cool that now Gatorpis is even available over in the UK, which was, ah um I was listening, what the hell podcast was it listening to?
01:11:16
tyrellknifeworks
Oh, I think Fire and Steel had, um why am I forgetting his name? um No.
01:11:25
echo_blades
Toby owner, Matt.
01:11:30
tyrellknifeworks
Matt Bicker from DIY Europe had him on talking about Gatorpis, because I guess he sells it for for Europe now, which was which is cool.
01:11:32
echo_blades
Oh, very cool.
01:11:43
echo_blades
Yeah. And then I know he's working on something with Travis too, as well to get a Pelican pace out over there.
01:11:48
tyrellknifeworks
Right. Yeah. And it's cool because the the the recipe for they're not shipping product. The recipe is going over there and Matt's making it.
01:11:59
tyrellknifeworks
which is which is cool. I'm sure there's some NDAs and all kinds of other legal stuff flying around, but um but that's cool.
01:12:06
tyrellknifeworks
That's cool. because
01:12:07
echo_blades
That's the the trust and in this beautiful community that allows it to keep on giving across large bodies of water and country boundaries.
01:12:19
echo_blades
This week ah in the the Steel Showdown is um Tsunami Chevron versus Inferno. So go get your so get your vote in.
01:12:30
tyrellknifeworks
I don't know the inferno one.
01:12:34
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, I love all the ah the there's some of the Chevron patterns they do or some of my favorites.
01:12:39
echo_blades
Oh, there's ferno is really cool.
01:12:43
tyrellknifeworks
Is that one copper?
01:12:43
echo_blades
I just, yeah, it's got some copper. It's like a ladder. I might pause it on a video. I don't have the the exact specs on it, but yeah, it's, that looks really cool.
01:12:56
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, it was.
01:12:56
echo_blades
But the tsunami Chevron is that's a hard one to beat there. So good, good luck.
01:13:01
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, yeah, the tsunami chevron and the ripple.
01:13:06
tyrellknifeworks
Those two are the ones that I really, I really like the, I think some of their best patterns.
01:13:12
tyrellknifeworks
So go check them out and go get the app and yeah, get your, yeah.
01:13:17
echo_blades
Yeah, you can get early access too if you use the app.
01:13:21
echo_blades
So take advantage of that men and use the code. Use the code. Why not use the code?
01:13:28
tyrellknifeworks
Yes, absolutely. Triple T10.
01:13:30
echo_blades
Save some money.
01:13:31
tyrellknifeworks
none None of these other podcast codes use our code.
Jet Ski Repairs and Weather Challenges
01:13:37
echo_blades
That's TTS plus another T. All right.
01:13:41
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, everybody wants the DTS.
01:13:43
echo_blades
That's right.
01:13:44
tyrellknifeworks
And you know, you know what? Now that the weather is finally cooling down, I finally finished my jet ski repair and now it's going to be too cold to use them.
01:13:56
tyrellknifeworks
But I finally got off my ass. That's what I was. I spent half the day Monday, um which is why I was been distracted from the dagger build. Finally got the jet ski patched and it looks all nice and save myself twenty three hundred dollars.
01:14:13
echo_blades
Good on you for for that.
01:14:15
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, but I swear it's it is like the like we hate hand sanding. That's all that is. It's just fucking hand sanding. It's applying.
01:14:26
tyrellknifeworks
that gel coat and then getting thin layers and then sanding and it's just a pain in the ass.
01:14:32
echo_blades
but ive But I feel like like an orbital sander or something like could really help speed that that body shop style sanding up.
01:14:40
tyrellknifeworks
If it was just a flat area, yes, but this is like the bow of the jet ski, which has a point and it's got like these little like ribs kind of thing on it that drop. So it's not,
01:14:55
echo_blades
What are you doing?
01:14:56
echo_blades
What are you doing with ribs, homie? Your jet ski got ribs?
01:14:59
tyrellknifeworks
Uh, yeah, yeah, it does. So yeah, I agree with you. If it was just a flat hole, it would be easy, but the, this is the worst part of where this could have happened is the very bow of the jet ski rate, where the cleat is, um, the tie off cleat.
01:15:15
tyrellknifeworks
So it looks good now it's done.
01:15:17
echo_blades
Well, good for you.
01:15:18
tyrellknifeworks
I don't have to worry about it. So if we have another hot spell, maybe I'll get him in the water.
01:15:24
echo_blades
Ah, yeah. I was just looking at the, uh, since we're a fucking weather show, um,
01:15:34
echo_blades
in Idaho, which I really liked that area, except I know it's going to get cold and and I'm not, I'm not dealing with the cold. Uh, so I'm bitching.
01:15:42
tyrellknifeworks
California.
01:15:43
echo_blades
Yeah. I'm bitching about the, you know, I'm bitching about the cold. There's nowhere I could go. I'm fucking stuck here, but I got a notification today that it's good. They were having a fucking 21 degree swing from yesterday to today.
01:15:57
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, we did.
01:15:58
echo_blades
96 to 90 to 71. I don't know. One day that's a big, that's a big swing.
01:16:04
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, we did from Sunday to Monday almost or Monday to Tuesday.
01:16:09
tyrellknifeworks
we had a 20 degree swing.
01:16:09
echo_blades
of this week?
01:16:11
echo_blades
Well, I wasn't fucking here. I don't know that. ah It was hot as shit when I left and I came back. It was, it was all right.
01:16:19
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. Well, you're spoiled because California in a day will have like 40 degree swings in a day, like from the hottest point of the day to the coolest point of the day.
01:16:31
tyrellknifeworks
If you're in like, yeah, you actually have,
01:16:31
echo_blades
Cool mornings are an, are an everyday thing. Like the crisp cool morning air is.
01:16:36
tyrellknifeworks
Cool morning. Yeah, you go to Florida or go to Toronto, you might have a, you know, in ah in the heat of the summer, you have like a five degree swing.
01:16:46
tyrellknifeworks
It goes from like 95 to 90.
01:16:48
tyrellknifeworks
It's ridiculous.
01:16:51
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, no fun.
01:16:52
echo_blades
Boo, boo, boo.
01:16:53
tyrellknifeworks
All right, I've had enough weather talk.
01:16:56
echo_blades
Yeah, me too. You
Managing Work Overload and Stress
01:16:57
echo_blades
know what? So I have, I don't know if it's a situation, but like trying to be a grown up and go to work every day.
01:17:07
tyrellknifeworks
Are you winning? nothingpping
01:17:09
echo_blades
going it I've been doing pretty good for quite ah quite a few, of many years in a row. Uh, every single morning I wake up in a contemplate, is this the day that I just, you know, throw it all away.
01:17:19
echo_blades
Um, but yeah, life is full and I just, there's so little time. And for whatever reason, I guess the, you know, we talk about the hammock and the slow summer.
01:17:30
echo_blades
I know you didn't really experience that, but okay.
01:17:32
tyrellknifeworks
ah um This month's been a little slow, so.
01:17:35
echo_blades
All right. But I am all of a sudden getting a lot of interest.
01:17:43
echo_blades
It's good. And now it's getting like a little stressful. Like I have a lot of people interested and it's just, it takes me so fucking long to get anything done and out the door. I have no inventory, right? So I might have to start reprioritizing some stuff and get my ass busy, but I'm really hoping that, you know, with the weather change that we get some more time, it's more convenient to get out there. But yeah, I'm stoked, man. I'm super flattered that, you know, starting to get, um, you know, some interest and, uh, you know,
01:18:21
echo_blades
Just it's a yeah it's hard for me to explain because again, I don't think anything I do is cool. So it's a different position to be in. And I thought I would just share that.
01:18:31
echo_blades
And hopefully not everybody is a super badass maker and has all kinds of shit ready to go and is crushing it all the time. And maybe someone relates to the overwhelming feel of the stress from, you know, be careful what you wish for type thing, you know.
01:18:48
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah. Yeah.
01:18:50
tyrellknifeworks
Well, that's good. That's good. I'm i'm happy for you. get to Now you just got to deliver on some of these some of these orders, right?
01:18:57
echo_blades
Yeah. So I'm, I am confident with my, my six months, but I'm a couple months into a couple of those. So I better get my ass fucking busy here.
01:19:07
tyrellknifeworks
I stress myself out over over calendar stuff and it yeah i usually I'm fine making dates and things like that.
01:19:18
tyrellknifeworks
I never usually have to delay a date, but I stress myself out over it and when it gets close. And yeah i'm and i'm getting I'm feeling that stress already for not having things ready for November, December yet, even though it's only September.
01:19:32
echo_blades
ah That's what I'm saying. like i'm I'm doing, I'm feeling the same, you know? It just, all of a sudden, it's like, you know, feast or famine type thing, yeah you know?
01:19:43
echo_blades
You get get in this spot where you're like, oh, oh, oh.
01:19:47
echo_blades
And then I always find myself with like five hands and knives to hand sand all at the same time. And that's my friends. Why Jared goes to profiling another knife? Because, but thankfully for the sand shark, I can, I can expedite that off a little bit better.
01:20:01
tyrellknifeworks
You know what'll help you with that? Actually finishing knives beginning to end and then you won't have this problem where you have five of them to handstand.
01:20:09
echo_blades
I agree. I cannot dispute that.
01:20:12
tyrellknifeworks
All right.
01:20:12
echo_blades
And I think my buddy, Sean Wilson, Sean, the knife guy said at the best one time, this was years ago, I believe, but I was trying to do a batch and I had like five, five knives to hand sand.
01:20:26
echo_blades
And he's like, why do you hate yourself so much? I was like, I don't know, man.
01:20:33
tyrellknifeworks
a I have now resigned myself.
01:20:33
echo_blades
I don't know.
01:20:35
tyrellknifeworks
The only batches I do are the ones that I don't do hand sanding on. that's the only kind of bad I say that, but I know I have a batch of of um chef knives to do.
01:20:50
echo_blades
I feel confident, though, that, you know, you you don't have to get a thousand you know grit to get a satin finish, you know?
01:20:58
tyrellknifeworks
Yeah, yeah, definitely not. 400 is great for a satin finish.
01:21:03
echo_blades
Yeah, that's that's what I'm kind of sitting on right now.
01:21:06
echo_blades
It's like, I'm almost almost like a one more grit to go. That's going to be great.
01:21:12
tyrellknifeworks
All right, man. Well, we're an hour and 20 in. I think we should call this. Uh, I need to edit this bitch and get myself to bed.
01:21:20
tyrellknifeworks
Now I guess I'm going to release it as soon as I'm done editing. No point in holding it since, since we're already half a day late.
01:21:29
echo_blades
Yeah, you pissed everybody off.
01:21:32
tyrellknifeworks
All right, man, I'm going to play us out.
01:21:34
echo_blades
Good deal, brother.
01:21:43
echo_blades
You know what's good about not having a triple T on Tuesday?
01:21:47
echo_blades
You get to hear it tomorrow. Happy Wednesday, everybody. That's a wrap.
