Introduction and Podcast Resurgence

00:00:36
Speaker
We must remain perfect strangers. Oh, franchise. Hey everybody. Welcome to another episode of predetermined a pro wrestling hangout. I'm your host Garrett calendar. And before I kick it over to my co-hosts, I just want to thank everybody who downloaded last week's episode. I know we've been off for 11 months. You weren't expecting it, but you still downloaded, you still listened and I love you to death for it.
00:01:05
Speaker
And hey, this is facts. And, uh, you know, can we, can we talk about it yet? That the reason the podcast was gone was because of Vince and now that he's out, Hunter has let us continue. Are we allowed to talk about that yet? Or is that still anyway, this is facts at Jimmy facts. One of the curtain jerks now, apparently one of the predetermined guys. Uh, and I am here once again with my former and future co-host.
00:01:32
Speaker
Yep, Chris Miliato. You can call me at ChrisMigs on the Instagrams. I will say, facts know we cannot talk about that. Vince paid us a lot of money not to talk about it. So let's ignore that. You heard that click. I am drinking a Spindrift, which for those of you who are listeners to the old version of Predetermined, you may be aware.

Wrestling Events and Beastman's Rise

00:01:58
Speaker
So Spindrift, it's like white claw, but it doesn't have alcohol.
00:02:02
Speaker
In every other way, it's exactly like White Claw, though. So it's very similar to the old pre-determined setup. So we're doing, like, LaCroix on here, you LaCroix boy? No, I'm a spin drift man. Spinny. Doing some spinny's while we're sitting on the bench with the guy trying to make our decisions on what we do. But like you said, signed a big NDA. Vinny Mack is out of the picture. We're back. But here's what we can talk about, though. So I know, Garrett, you did
00:02:32
Speaker
You went to a lot of shows last weekend. I went to one show. You went to many, many shows. GCW, New Japan, SummerSlam, Rick Flair, Nearly Dying in the Ring. But before we get to all that other stuff, I want to ask you, Garrett, by far, clearly the biggest moment of the weekend, the elephant in the room for everyone who listened to last week's podcast,
00:03:00
Speaker
Which is, Garrett, tell everyone about your experience seeing Beastman in person again and his very big victory, I'm told. It was shocking. I mean, the promotion is CCW. It took place at the Redcon 1 gym five minutes from my house. I think I included that at the end of last week's podcast. Is that where you met Omega? Yeah.
00:03:31
Speaker
And CCW, is that like a Tennessee area promotion or? No, so I looked it up. It's Coastal Championship Wrestling. Like California? Florida. Oh, the best coast, my friend. The best coast. What is Nashville on the coast of? I mean, Kentucky.
00:03:59
Speaker
So as far as I can tell, this promotion is Gangrel's school. Okay.
00:04:08
Speaker
But they do pull in, every time they come through town, it is a whole mess of people I had never heard of in Brian Cage on that card every time. I had never gone to his show, but they moved it five minutes from my house. Beastman was on the card, and you know what, it was right before the Ric Flair show, I thought, I can do this. Beastman's gonna go on second, I can catch Beastman, head over to the municipal auditorium, watch that old bastard die in the middle of the ring. And that did not go as planned.
00:04:38
Speaker
That did not go as planned. I this is like this isn't a planet. Let me let me guess. Let me guess. So everything did go smoothly. Beastman was on second. But then you found out there were only two matches because Beastman was wrestling a 120 minute Iron Man match. Oh boy. God.
00:05:02
Speaker
Does he have the cardio for it? I think we all know the answer because he is when they, uh, when they say his name and his weight and where he's from 500 pounds is what they say. And I know WWE exaggerates a lot. I feel like with this man, they maybe tell him that I don't think that's a showbiz 500. I think that's, that's a legit quarter ton. Very plausible to me.
00:05:26
Speaker
But as we get to this place, a buddy of mine from out of town was in for the day. We hung out for a couple hours and I had to tell him, okay, so your option is you can go off alone or you can come with me to some, and I said, I have to tell you upfront, it's not gonna be good.
00:05:46
Speaker
I don't want to give you the impression that you're going to enjoy this. It is going to be long, but you will see Beastman. And I said, and as excited as I am about Beastman, you may be disappointed when you see Beastman. I don't know. What do you feel about Beastman? Well, he sat through a lot of guys who were learning to wrestle.
00:06:10
Speaker
before we got to Beastman. Beastman ended up going on dead last. Dead last. I mean, main event. He is a big star. Do you know what went on before him? Oh, I'm sorry, go ahead. What's that? Brian Cage versus Jack Cartwheel was the lead-in to Beastman versus Chase Stevens for the CCW International Championship.
00:06:37
Speaker
Again, as facts pointed out last week, those guys are jacked, but neither is Beastman.
00:06:43
Speaker
Yeah, and I mean, if Gangrel's running this whole thing, you know, he's got an eye for talent, right? Edge and Christian, the Hardys, right? I mean, or was that Michael Hayes? It doesn't matter. I mean, Gangrel knows how to sell tickets, right? And Brian Cage has already peaked and his star is on a decline. Beastman is like, it's like we're seeing, we're seeing the ringmaster right now. That's where Beastman is in his trajectory.
00:07:13
Speaker
So this is implying that this is the low point for Beastman that only just like guys the limit like. Well, no, no, no. So this is again ringmaster Steve Austin, right? Like a lot of the pieces are there. He just hasn't fully connected with the audience. So again, I wouldn't say like stone cold two years later was a drastically better character and he certainly wasn't a drastically better wrestler.
00:07:40
Speaker
It just was, it just fully clicked. I think Beastman has, the way the Ringmaster did in like 96, I think all the pieces are there for Beastman to be a, you know, a top promotion guy. He just needs that opportunity. I don't know, Fax. I think everyone can connect with Beastman. He just needs the platform. Because I feel like we connected very deeply with Beastman in a matter of minutes. So as long as someone
00:08:08
Speaker
you know, puts Beastman out there so that people can experience Beastman. I think, wait, I think he's there. So I think we're, we're burying the lead unless I just missed it. So did Beastman win their title? Beastman is the CCW international champion. All right. Yeah.
00:08:29
Speaker
I don't know if that's his first title or not, but it's only gonna go up from here. Like my dick when he comes out, it's only going up from here. And we know CCW now has a regular in Garrett, because if they're promoting Beastman matches every time as the champ, I mean, we could see a Beastman Hour Broadway at a CCW show.
00:08:53
Speaker
I mean, I don't have to go see Beastman. Beastman was like, Garrett, you like me enough? I'm coming to you, bud. If you're willing to drive as far as it takes to get to a McDonald's, you can come see Beastman. Tickets are $10. Come on in. There's only 50 to 100 people. So what was the reaction? Had they already been put to sleep by all the geeks? Or did they get up for Beastman and the big babyface win?
00:09:23
Speaker
So guys, our reaction to Beastman in Chicago is not the reaction Beastman got in Nashville. What do you mean? Okay, so 50 to 100 people, the guy he's wrestling is named Chase Stevens. Beastman comes out, huge booze. Huge booze.
00:09:43
Speaker
Oh, okay. I am the only guy and all of those people standing there chanting beast man, beast man. And it was only filmed on a single iPhone. So I don't even know if you're going to hear me.
00:09:58
Speaker
Well, and again in Chicago just to make sure the audience like we're not not exaggerating It wasn't just us like legitimately that was warrior wrestling There's probably what about four or five hundred people there. Maybe like it. Maybe that's a little bit more Three four hundred is definitely more than the hundred sure and it people were were all about the Beastman It wasn't just us
00:10:20
Speaker
So I will say his entrance more spectacular than when we saw him in Chicago. He had a valet guy come out that seemed like a character from a Rob Zombie movie carrying his bone for him. And he had Goldberg security guards. The Beastman comes out in full guar attire and he is trying to hop the guard rail to kill everybody in the front row.
00:10:46
Speaker
As he's going by us, I'm shouting beast, man. I'm pumping fists. No one gives a fuck. And he gets to this little kid, maybe four years old, tries to climb over the guard rail, little kid in tears, crying, running. That's heat, my friend. Did you high five him right after that?
00:11:04
Speaker
Beastman wouldn't touch me. Beastman and his valet guy, a real asshole. He's holding that bone. He looks at that four year old kid sitting in his mom's lap, jerks it off a little bit and said, here's a bone for you. And then the mom said, fuck you. I mean, you got to work with what the crowd gives you. I don't, I mean, that's just, that's just good business in my mind. This is nuclear. This is cornet level in mid south and 85 heat.
00:11:31
Speaker
But you want to get further as he makes his way to the other side of the ring. There is a woman that had to have been 83 years old. 10 years older than Ric Flair. Nuclear heat with her. She wanted to hop the guardrail and kick Beastman's ass because Chase Stevens was her boy. She loved him. And I was in a time machine, man. It was amazing.
00:11:53
Speaker
I mean, it sounds like old Memphis stuff. Like, it makes me wish that we still had Mem- I mean, Beastman would be the king of Memphis right now if Memphis wrestling was still a thing. But not- the Beastman didn't only win. He beat Chase Stevens, this crowd's hero, to a fucking bloody pulp. Like, I don't know what he got hit with that made him just explode.
00:12:20
Speaker
was uh was like a medical boot that somebody in the crowd took off and handed to him because it was a fans bring their your own or bring the weapons match and i don't know if it's a little too much bladen but beastman looked like a fucking champion because he destroyed theirs and i'll be there every week i'll be there every week
00:12:42
Speaker
yeah i mean he should just we should start like i would i would pay for beast man only fans uh at this point i think like and and i love the entrance becoming more elaborate now he's like i hope he goes full goldberg with the entrance and not just because
00:12:58
Speaker
like the Goldberg march from the locker room is would be maximum velocity for Beastman. But also, I'm just imagining the thing with like the pyro going off and he inhales and exhales the smoke only, you know, obviously CCW can't afford pyro. So they just do it with barbecue sauce.
00:13:19
Speaker
I also, I want to be, I want to be clear about this. I was thinking about this this week. You know, do people think that our love of beast man is ironic? And the answer is no. We are making jokes because our love of beast man is so unironic that we frankly don't know what to do with it. Yes. It's legitimately confusing to me how deeply I'm excited to see beast man again. And I'm even just your report Garrett was exciting. I would watch an iPhone video of this match.
00:13:47
Speaker
I have most of it on my iPhone. Fuck yes. All right. But how much did I want to see Beastman? I missed the first hour of Ric Flair's going away party because I was at CCW. At a point, I had to walk over to the sound man and say, hey, do you know when Beastman's going on? I need to get the fuck out of here and I really want to see Beastman. And he's like, oh, you got two more matches. Four matches later, I'm watching Beastman.
00:14:17
Speaker
main event. Wait, did you, Garrett, did you miss the GCW invasion part of the flare thing? Oh yeah, buddy, I did not see Nick Gage because I was in a back room of a gym watching Beastman wrestle. Admittedly, it was not that exciting. I did go back and watch that piece and they basically walk out there, they punch a few people, they got angry at Bully Ray, which made me very concerned they were gonna do an angle with Bully Ray. Very, very concerned. And then it was mostly just a battle royale again.
00:14:48
Speaker
You knew who else wasn't at the Ric Flair thing, because he was in that room with 50 people watching Beastman? Guys- David Arquette. Yeah, David Arquette, big Beastman guy. He actually, he might be the valet soon. He was looking at the bone guy- I mean, that would be a career resurgence for jerking off bones for Beastman. Guys, Miro was there.
00:15:17
Speaker
Miro, I have been to all the wrestling this town has to offer. I had never seen any of these motherfuckers in this room before. I've never seen them at any wrestling show, and of all the wrestling stuff happening in this town, how is that the place they ended up? Because Miro wants to wrestle Beastman. He can see it, he's gonna pitch it to Tony Khan, he's like, look, I fight Beastman, that's a main event in AEW with the right build.
00:15:45
Speaker
Well, again, look at what he did in WWE, making his own angle, teaming up with guys that were kind of nobodies. And he, like, Miro's got an eye for talent and knows how to tell a story. He can get himself over and he knows Beastman will get him over. Dude, if he can get his whole, like his, his, uh, chokehold, his signature, you know, finisher on Beastman, I'd be surprised. That's the question. He's got the reach. I want to know. Can he?
00:16:15
Speaker
But no, that's why I'm excited to see the match. That's why I would pay big money to see Beastman against Miro. And I feel like now we're closer to it happening. Guys, you get to see Beastman versus Janela. I saw... I mean, what the hell? That's gonna be magic.
00:16:33
Speaker
Yeah, and I mean, I hope they change that to also bring your own weapons or fans give the weapons or whatever. I don't know, I'll start working on something. A stinking dynamite. Sorry, Janela, this is how it's gotta go. Also, you could just light that dynamite under Beastman and it would just be like a Looney Tunes. It's just gonna, just like a little fart of smoke comes out because,
00:17:00
Speaker
Can't handle Beastman. Facts, a bit ago though, you did mention a Beastman only fans. What is that to you? What content could he give you that is worth the money?
00:17:13
Speaker
I'm just saying I'd like to see, because I get, well A, I want one place and it's more, I couldn't think of like, I'm just willing to pay even if it's normally free just on YouTube for all of his matches. That goes without saying, right? However, I want to know, I know the beast. I want to get to know the man. And I feel like something where we can follow him around to see what his day-to-day interactions are like, just like,
00:17:43
Speaker
So again, we've seen him in Chicago. We've seen him in Tennessee. I don't know where he's from other than prehistoric times, but presumably to get to one, if not both of those places, he needed to take an airplane. I want to see that. Not an easy feat. I want to see the entire Beastman Airport experience from booking the seats onward. I want to know what happened.
00:18:11
Speaker
I also just need an eating vlog. I'd pay $5 a month to just watch him slowly eat a turkey leg silently into his webcam. Shirtless juices gotta flow. Yeah, yeah. It's not a sexual thing. I don't think. Yet. Yet. Yet. It's just him showing dominance.
00:18:36
Speaker
Okay, we're 20 minutes into this podcast and Beastman has dominated again. I feel like we should probably move on to something else. Oh, I'm sorry, go for it. No, no, go for it, Garrett.

Ric Flair's Last Match

00:18:47
Speaker
No, I was just, I have to say one last thing about this promotion. Where we were seated, we were about three feet behind in front of some speakers and the volume
00:18:58
Speaker
that they projected through these speakers to these 50 people in this room. I mean, it was so painful. And I, every time music played, like a little bit of me died. Everything hurt. I left a different person because of how loud the music was. And my morale was so low by the time that Beastman came on that I didn't even want to go to Ric Flair anymore.
00:19:23
Speaker
And I kind of described my experience there like being a prisoner in Guantanamo Bay and them just like pelting you with volume and music. And at one point I'm pretty sure I was nude while like guards pointed at my penis and took pictures. And then Beastman freed you.
00:19:42
Speaker
And then, yes, that was the moment that I escaped Guantanamo Bay and got my White Castle or whatever. So I love that you brought your friend to this that's never been to a wrestling show, which must seem like this is how people join cults, right? Where it's like basically three hours of deep, deep psychological torture followed by a, you know, a Beastman Messiah. Euphoric experience.
00:20:08
Speaker
I had to have seemed insane. Cause he is now in a room with the only guy who is like pumping fists and screaming beast man. Cause I needed to let him know I'm there for him. We want him on this show. I don't know if he says words, but maybe we can get bone jerk off guy. Don't really want him. But if he's a translator. I mean, he needs a translator. That's pretty clear.
00:20:33
Speaker
So wait, so Garrett, you went straight from this to flair. Now the, the undercard of the flair show, I watched it. It was enjoyable, but what we were really there for was to see whether or not Rick flair died. And my feeling watching the show on television.
00:20:51
Speaker
was that it was kind of close, particularly when he went to put on that figure forward, he just kind of couldn't lift his body at all. Was there a palpable sense in the room towards the end of the match of what they were experiencing? The woos never stopped, my friend, regardless of what we were watching.
00:21:13
Speaker
I think the match can best, like how the room was three minutes in, he took like a hip toss. Cause he basically bumped twice in this match. The first bump was maybe three minutes in, the entire crowd started chanting, you still got it. And I, I like kind of took a step back.
00:21:36
Speaker
and was like, this, okay, we're lying to him now, huh? We're three minutes in, he took one move, I was like, all right, let's hit him with a fucking fight forever. We've seen enough to know. The thousands of people were collectively the people who've been, it was a vocal version of the people who've been enabling Ric Flair for the last 25 years.
00:22:00
Speaker
I'm pretty sure Conrad couldn't be in every seat yelling that. So it was a bizarre match to be in the room for. That's what I was saying last week is like, it wasn't gonna be an honorable death, right? That's why I'm like, you know, again, like an AJ PW strong boy. They went down like fucking Vikings.
00:22:29
Speaker
but 73 year old Ric Flair who hasn't wrestled in God knows how long. I mean, that just was gonna be a sad death. Have you seen the Clipsvax? No, I've seen nothing. Like towards the end he kind of couldn't even throw chops. Like the chops were visibly weak. Like he was like lightly tapping someone.
00:22:55
Speaker
God bless Jay Lethal. That man sold those chops like he was Dolph Ziggler in a ladder match. He was, it was difficult. You know, he was taking like, I mean, Walter just as well been hitting Jay Lethal. That's how hard those chops were. And they were coming at the speed of a man reaching for a paper towel out of a dispenser in a gas station bathroom.
00:23:22
Speaker
I was impressed at how, so I was concerned going in that the match would be mediocre and thus kind of not entertaining.
00:23:33
Speaker
But towards the end, especially, it truly did hit some nadirs that made me sort of glad I paid money to see it because I was like, this was a sort of bizarre experience that was worth. I mean, Garrett, it sounds like you felt like being in the room for this was like a worthwhile experience just for how strange it was.
00:23:56
Speaker
Absolutely, I honestly, I had had so much fun with the rest of the card prior to it, I thought it was actually a good show to be in the room for. That lucha match woke the room up like crazy, people loved it. And what was the final attendance number, do we know? Or what would you ballpark it at?
00:24:15
Speaker
I would have to look up and see what AEW did in that building, but I would say it's higher than AEW got. Yeah, it looked very full from the pictures. I saw still pictures on Twitter.
00:24:28
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely. They outsold AEW for sure. And they definitely brought people out of the woodwork that don't normally attend wrestling shows. There were definitely people that were there because of this Ric Flair match, and that only after probably years of not watching any wrestling. Like The Undertaker.
00:24:54
Speaker
Oh my god, Undertaker and Mick Foley sat front row for this match, side by side. That's probably, didn't Undertaker, there was literally stories out of Undertaker's that he didn't want to watch it.
00:25:06
Speaker
Oh, he sat front row, man. Apparently he was convinced. I actually had a theory about this, which was that Undertaker and Mick were sat next to each other in the front row by Conrad. And then afterwards on the way out, he whispered in both their ears, this could be you. Because can't you because here's again, talk about morbid curiosity. If Conrad Thompson
00:25:26
Speaker
next year on the 25th, right around the 25th anniversary of hell in a cell said, here's what's going to happen. It's undertaker versus Mick Foley in a hell in a cell match. Again, 25 years later, I got to say, I think we're showing up or at least spending the money on pay-per-view to see what on earth that's like.
00:25:50
Speaker
Let's just look at Conrad's career arc here, right? He went from a guy really successful at selling mortgages in Alabama or wherever, to a guy that does a lot of really dirty, funny podcasts with Tony Giovanni, to now a wrestling promoter that will put on matches that even Vince would find in Poor Taste.
00:26:18
Speaker
God damn, pal. You trying to kill Flair? Wow. Conrad Thompson, you're a piece of shit. And I gotta say, that is the highest compliment I could give someone.
00:26:37
Speaker
He's never used those words before. Actually, that would be the biggest coup and the biggest death knell for WWE would be like the Crown Prince being like, without Vince, I'm out. And then he goes to Conrad. He's like, Conrad, you're doing the Saudi Arabia shows now. Conrad, you will provide me with the old wrestlers I need. Yeah. Oh my god. He's like, you want Yokozuna? We got them, bud.
00:27:09
Speaker
put these men in a diaper. Yeah, the match itself, it went too long. The crowd had fun, though, and I think that's pretty much what matters, right? But it's not happening again, right? Like, this was maybe... Oh, no. It is... Again, I haven't seen the video. I haven't seen anything. I saw what the gate looked like.
00:27:35
Speaker
I have very little, I have, I'm certain it is happening again. Cody did give it away. Cody on in his tribute was like, congrats, Rick. My dad loved you. He was very proud of his matches with you. I mean, you're probably, I mean, you're going to do this again, right? I couldn't believe they aired it. Cause it was quite clear. I was like, yeah, Cody's right.
00:27:55
Speaker
You already had, you already paid for it by the time you saw that, right? Like the cable company, you can't like cancel the order two and a half hours into a show, you know, and get your money back. I don't think I paid our friends at fight TV. So, okay. There you go. One of the funniest things in that show to me was towards the beginning when they interviewed Mick Foley and he's like, yeah, it's a, it's a real honor to be here in the second row.
00:28:22
Speaker
for this show. And he like brought up three times in the interview that he was in the second row. And the third time he said it, he goes, I'm in the, you know, the second row for this Ric Flair show, because I guess I'm no Al Snow, who was in the front row. And next match, somebody came and moved two people out of the front row and put Mick Foley and his kid there. Was one of them Al Snow. Al Snow had to leave. I think he was embarrassed out of the front row. He came and sat next to me.
00:28:53
Speaker
I will say that one thing I enjoyed from the broadcast, so the show is mostly, it was Tony Schiavone with a cavalcade of sort of guest announcers, Ian Riccobani, Joe Dombrowski.
00:29:07
Speaker
Tom Phillips, a whole bunch of people just sort of stepping in and out. But David Crockett did little bits of the show with him. And David Crockett, along with Ian Riccobani, did the Briscoes versus Von Erics match. And at the point where Ian Riccobani explained what redneck kung fu was to David Crockett, he cackled like it was worldwide in 1986.
00:29:31
Speaker
And, uh, that was my favorite, like TV broadcast moment was like, that's the one thing that taught David Crockett. He was like, the Briscoes, I feel like David Crockett was like, yeah, I would have watched the Briscoes wrestle the rock and roll express in 1987. And it would have been great, which I think it would have been. Yeah. Right. Um, or actually, actually the real answer is Briscoe sheep herders. That would have been, that would have been spectacular.
00:29:59
Speaker
The, uh, these Von Eric boys, where do they wrestle? I had never, like, I mean, obviously I know who the Von Eric's are. This is the problem. You haven't watched the MLW. I've never seen the Von Eric's wrestle anywhere outside of MLW. I've never been aware that they've wrestled anywhere outside of MLW. I think they might've done like a Japan tour at some point, but like in the U S they seem to be exclusive to major league wrestling.
00:30:24
Speaker
Well, I remember I've heard about them because I've noticed that, too, that they have some people talk about with the Briscoes, too, right? That they're like, well, they they got their farm and they do well. And I've heard similar things about the Von Erics, where they're like, they have like a successful business that's not wrestling and that they just kind of wrestle just MLW here and there to like
00:30:48
Speaker
I guess to give their kids career options in the future. You know, I think they mostly wrestle MLW to like hang out with their dad. Like it feels like they like every time they're like, yeah, we're going to do a thing in Texas with our dad. It's going to make him feel nice. Like it's unclear to me if they even like wrestling or they're just like.
00:31:09
Speaker
This really means a lot to dad, so we've got to keep doing it. Every few months, we've got to show up with dad, and he gets all happy. Dad's been through a lot. Right, exactly.

Surprising Performances at SummerSlam

00:31:22
Speaker
All of the women in our family told us, just whatever you do, don't make him sad.
00:31:32
Speaker
And then they slowly walk away. At least do it until the Zac Efron movie comes out and we can let all this blow over. Very excited for that, by the way. Very intrigued.
00:31:43
Speaker
I wonder who's going to play Brody. Well, you know, who could play Brody is somebody who I think has aspirations to get into acting. And from what I've read on the Internet, again, I didn't see in it and I hate to switch the topic to something like WWE, but it sounds like Logan Paul was the best wrestler of the entire weekend. Guys, that Logan Paul match made me confused about everything I've ever known about wrestling.
00:32:12
Speaker
I started to question like, what do I even know about this? Like all the hundreds of hours of wrestling I've watched over the years went out the window because I knew that wasn't going to be good. I know nothing. I know nothing. That guy is very naturally talented.
00:32:45
Speaker
at pro wrestling.
00:32:53
Speaker
Like he just was like, Oh yeah, I'm going to try really hard at WrestleMania and have some, every single year have some of the greatest matches in the history of wrestling. Like that's kind of what it seems like. Logan Paul is just, yeah, he's, he's the best wrestler that WWE has now. Well, this has become a bit of a trend, right? Bad Bunny tried really hard too. And people were like, I think I like Bad Bunny better than most wrestlers on the roster.
00:33:19
Speaker
Logan Paul, all I had known about him prior to this is when I was in Japan for Wrestle Kingdom, he got in trouble for filming Dead Bodies in the forest. And I was like, oh, that guy sounds like an asshole. That's literally all I knew about this man. And now he's ripped his shit doing spots that Shane McMahon should be doing. So already Logan Paul's impressed as Vince McMahon more than Shane ever impressed his dad. And he's doing it against The Miz.
00:33:49
Speaker
And I start like, think about all the people, like him versus Kevin Owens, him versus AJ. That was the thing is like, I actually had no idea who he was wrestling. So I started hearing this buzz about Logan Paul and I immediately look up, okay, well, who was he wrestling? Was he wrestling as AJ or something? And like, okay, AJ just kind of carried him. And I'm like, oh shit, it was against the Miz? He must legit be good.
00:34:15
Speaker
I mean, if we're just on to this show now, like that, honestly, like at the time when that hit, I was like, this is going to be the match of the night for me, because like the women's match at the beginning was great, but I expected it to be good. I expected nothing from Logan Paul. I was saying, what was the match of the night? Match of the night. Was something better than Logan Paul? As far as pro wrestling,
00:34:45
Speaker
I think people are going to hate me for that. But I think that was the that was my favorite pro wrestling match. I mean, honestly, I think that's kind of the consensus. Like, I think there may be some people that would say Brock Reigns, you know, was the last man standing match or whatever it was. But like generally, from what I've seen online. I think Logan Paul and The Miz had the consensus best match of the weekend.
00:35:14
Speaker
I keep, I hear too that the Bianca Becky match. I think too though, like it was so fucking hot at that point that I'm still just like trying to enjoy myself. By the time Logan Paul was out, the sun had gone down. I was, at least I think it was. Maybe he just wowed me that much. But two things I like jumped out of my seat for that night was the tractor thing and Logan Paul taking a dive from the top rope onto the announcer table.
00:35:44
Speaker
So I it's so odd to like I mean how many years have we been I mean I don't know the last you said you went to mania this year Chris I don't know the last one also had Bianca against Becky Lynch the last big WWE show I was at was mania in 2019 the the Becky triple threat mania
00:36:05
Speaker
the MetLife one. Yeah, I went to the, again, WrestleMania just a few months ago, which had the same women's title match, the same men's title match, and Aaron Paul, or Logan Paul. Aaron Paul would have been good too. Aaron Paul, I'm sure would be great. I don't know, like for this podcast, I've been to...
00:36:29
Speaker
So many WWE pay-per-views. Before this, I had been to WWE pay-per-views. There's maybe two or three pay-per-views that I left smiling. And this was one of them. Interesting. And my expectations were on the floor going in. And I left saying, I had a good time at that show. I'm happy I went to that show. This... And how long was the show? What time did I leave? I think we were...
00:36:55
Speaker
I mean, I was home before midnight, so I think we've got out at like 10.30.
00:37:01
Speaker
Okay, and it started at what, like, seven? Seven? Yeah. Maybe even over three and a half. Yeah, it wasn't a super long show. That's good. That's what killed me with the last manias I've been to, is that there's three enjoyable hours in there. It's just there's three more hours that are not enjoyable that makes it when you get to the stuff that is good, you're kind of like, oh, God.
00:37:31
Speaker
I just don't wanna be here. I never, honestly, like there wasn't anything, I used the theory match as a bathroom break and it was over by the time I got back and I was only gone like five minutes. But honestly, everything in it, I found at least a little bit of enjoyment and even like the tag match I kept hearing was gonna be the match of the night. And it was fine, but the thing our entire section enjoyed was Jeff Jarrett being referee.
00:38:00
Speaker
Uh, his count in very inconsistent. It was either too fast or too slow. And he really kept those wrestlers on their toes. Cause he was determined to have a botch finish on that match. Jeff Jarrett, star of the weekend. Second star. Absolutely.
00:38:19
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, honestly, like one of the better pay-per-views I've seen from WWE, like main roster, at least.

Outlaw Pro Wrestling and Joey Ryan's Saga

00:38:25
Speaker
I fell asleep watching Reigns versus Brock, but I think that was due to the incredible heat and number of beers I had at Outlaw. So I knew, yeah, I need to hear about this Outlaw show. So, uh, so I watched a little bit of SummerSlam there too. So I, on, on Saturday afternoon, I went to see Outlaw Pro Wrestling at Queens Brewery.
00:38:46
Speaker
I went mainly to see Shane Douglas because
00:38:51
Speaker
I maybe haven't, I don't know if I've talked about this before, but Shane was like one of my favorite wrestlers as a kid. The first ever ECW episode I saw was, I was 13. I was flipping channels late at night, found ECW. It's the episode with the four way dance, him against Pitbull to Chris Jericho, too cold Scorpio. In the span, the whole, that match is basically the entire episode. In the span of an hour, Shane Douglas has won the title,
00:39:19
Speaker
Stolen the pit bulls very very attractive manager and broken one of their necks and I was like this guy's awesome He's my favorite now. I have to find this ECW thing So in a lot of ways that matches like it's very sort of important to my history Admittedly Shane, uh, you know had a lot of injuries in the late 90s not in the best shape He had a match with bull James that
00:39:50
Speaker
Frankly, this would be, I apologize, Shane, if you're listening, which you're almost certainly not. Gotta say worse than flair.
00:40:00
Speaker
like honestly kind of sadder, did not go nearly as hard. They basically just sort of, he just sort of lightly tapped him a few times. It was not great. He caught a pro one before the match that mentioned Flair and Vince, but honestly wasn't even that biting. It was kind of a disappointing franchise experience. I was also hoping, he's a fun meet and greet guy, but he showed up at the intermission, went to the back, wrestled the match,
00:40:28
Speaker
and was gone before the show was over.
00:40:32
Speaker
So it was a very, very full, very full franchise experience. I mean, I saw him at WrestleCon like three years ago and three years ago, I was just like, oh, yeah, it's good. He's not wrestling any of the shows this weekend. Like so I can't imagine. But but but I hate to break. I mean, Shane's going to listen to this. I mean, he's a huge Beastman fan. Of course. Anything on Beastman, he's going to he's going to find.
00:41:00
Speaker
No, I understand. And Shane knows he has my undying love and respect for all the years of entertainment. This was not one of those days of entertainment. What I will say was really fun. A shout out to...
00:41:14
Speaker
So Homicide wrestled Dutch, also formerly known as Bill Carr, or William from Control Your Narrative. They wrestled for the title, had a great sort of fun brawl across the...
00:41:31
Speaker
Actually, I was gonna say, shout out to them for a great show. It's at a brewery in the middle of the afternoon, which is delightful. There's Papa Shot. Someone was selling ice cream bars that had the Outlaw logo stamped on them, which were delicious. The beer was cold. The food was good. It was just a very fun wrestling experience. The actual show itself, very solid, very enjoyable. Everyone gave a much better effort than Shane. That's very brave of you to mix ice cream and beer.
00:41:58
Speaker
I've never had good experiences with that, but, you know, teach the room. Again, possible that's why I passed out so aggressively during the Reigns rock match. My body just got shut down. But so I went up to say hi to Dutch after the match because I had many questions about control your narrative. And to his credit, he was incredibly accommodating.
00:42:27
Speaker
And so a couple of things I learned about this. First, so he shot his scenes and knew about that, did not see the final edit, so query how much he got to control his own narrative.
00:42:45
Speaker
But he was unaware about the 15-minute EC3 soliloquically that started the show. He was like, oh, that's interesting. You mean EC3 was upfront and told him on that? Just so you know, I don't know if this makes you want to be here more or less. I'm going to talk a lot. I got a lot to say, kind of.
00:43:04
Speaker
Yeah, apparently that was, and also, to be clear, he also felt like he was not aware of the capital rioting-esque overtones. To be clear, he's like, it's not me, to be clear. I am a wrestler. I take wrestle jobs. But a delightful guy had a beer with him. We also talked, because here's the other thing about
00:43:32
Speaker
about Dutch, he not only has been a part of Control Your Narrative, but he was also on one of the most bizarre shows that I've seen even more so than Control Your Narrative. The Facts was there for two, which was, of course, Joey Ryan's penis party. He had probably actually maybe one of the best match of the night. He and his tag team partner Bill Carr, sorry, Dan Barry, had a hardcore match. Delightful, really, really good.
00:44:01
Speaker
I learned in asking him a little bit about that show, I had not heard about this. Maybe this went under the radar. Maybe this was only passed around in wrestler circles. Maybe we've got to go research on this. Apparently Joey Ryan was supposed to do a one-man show recently about getting canceled. And apparently part of it was he was going to speak in the voice of his accusers.
00:44:28
Speaker
So it got shut down. I think that sounds bold and powerful. It got shut down, but I've never wanted to see anything more in my life than that. Just saying. At the show, at the Flair show, I was sitting with my buddy, Rat, and we were talking about Joey Ryan quite a bit. And, you know, like Joey Ryan's Twitter presence now is like he is he's Christian now.
00:44:52
Speaker
He's a man of God. And I'd like to think that he can convert me. I think he can get me on that team. I want to get my Bible verses from Joey Ryan. He's a man I trust from God. Of course. Yeah. Very recently, I have a friend who's not
00:45:15
Speaker
much of all wrestling fan, but he really likes TikTok. Occasionally, he'll send me a TikTok video that involves wrestling that he finds funny. And he recently sent me a TikTok video of Joey Ryan. And it was very awkward where I had to explain to him why what he'd done was incredibly problematic. I was like, buddy, so
00:45:39
Speaker
He's like, who even got hurt by that move? And it was like, well, it's supposed to be her. You see, his penis is so strong that it suplexed her. Also, by the way, the guy doing the suplex thing, many sexual assault accusations. So, so many. But apparently, hot on TikTok again, so.
00:46:03
Speaker
His one man show is going to be like Louis CK's directorial debut. You know, that movie that he made that just like apparently you can find it like on the dark web, but nowhere else. No one wants to touch it. This is going to be this is going to be a hot monologue that Joey Ryan's got. Are we sure Louis CK wouldn't be the director for Joey Ryan's one man show? Maybe that's where we're going with this.
00:46:30
Speaker
Honest to God, like, so Louis CK just made a movie and no one really wants to screen it. So in Nashville, it is playing at Zany's. The comedy club here,
00:46:44
Speaker
A lot of comedians really like it, but also Nashville not afraid to book people who are canceled. It's kind of the who's who of the Me Too movement performs at Zany's and they're actually playing Louis CK's movie. And I was like, who wants to be in this? Joey Ryan absolutely would be in a Louis CK movie. So I think he should take advantage. I have nothing to add to this. Sorry, facts. No, I mean, you guys are just,
00:47:13
Speaker
You guys, I'm just watching. I'm enjoying the show.

New Japan Show Highlights

00:47:19
Speaker
But yeah, shout out to Dutch for humoring me and having a delightful, delightful conversation during a good chunk of the show there. Well, I'm curious to get to you while I was at that show.
00:47:35
Speaker
I think you were ready at your new Japan, right? And so can you tell me how, how, how was the new Japan show? Anything exciting and happening in our, in that neck of the woods? Yeah, there are definitely a couple matches. Absolutely worth checking out. Do they do strong on the new Japan app? Not the app, but like the subscription service. So they're inconsistent about that. I think sometimes the stuff from the shows like this would go up there and sometimes it wouldn't.
00:48:04
Speaker
or they'll like eventually put it up. It's very, I imagine eventually this will be viewable on the New Japan app.
00:48:14
Speaker
Yeah, the last four matches of this show were awesome, starting with Takahashi versus Blake Christian. Like, yeah, absolutely. Yeah, that like as good as that seems in your head, it was exactly what you wanted it to be. It was it was a banger. I mean, it was only I'm looking at it was 14 minutes long, but super fast pace.
00:48:36
Speaker
crowd super behind it, super energetic. The last time New Japan did Nashville, Great Okan was the only Japanese wrestler in attendance. So it was nice to see one of the top guys. Well, and also I would actually say, I think one of the things I've struggled with Hiromu's work over the last year or so is sort of in the pandemic era, he's been like, okay,
00:49:01
Speaker
I'm going to be big. We're going 45 minutes. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. So a 14 minute Hiromu match that's kind of all banger actually probably sounds more appealing than some of his other, again, very good, but maybe not maybe slightly longer than they needed to be matches over the last like year or so.
00:49:19
Speaker
Well, in Hiromu, outside of Japan is always interesting too because in New Japan, in Japan, it's kind of like you pretty much always know going in, oh yeah, he's going to beat that guy or he's going to lose to that guy. And occasionally he might lose when you think he's going to win, but he never seems to win when you think he's going to lose.
00:49:41
Speaker
So I think that there's a little bit, you know, with it, with a guy like a play Christian that I think even a new Japan people think of as like an kind of up and coming, like, you know, they're, they're, they booked him. They're not ignorant of who he is and his talents. So I don't know. I think that would have a little, little juice too, of, of, I think just anytime you see Hiromu wrestle a, uh, a foreigner, well, what would be considered a foreigner in Japan because play Christian is the one on the home team here in Tennessee.
00:50:11
Speaker
Honestly, those two, if we ever got Blake Christian to the main roster of New Japan and just out of the United States,
00:50:21
Speaker
That, I could easily see those two doing a Tokyo Dome match that could absolutely wow people. I've seen it in my head, yeah. Yeah, that match needs to happen again in front of a larger audience. Well, I think that'd be a good place for Zane, sorry, for Zane, for Christian. Zane, I'm thinking of, because he's wrestled Alex Zane so many times, and I think it's been a good place for him, too, in that,
00:50:48
Speaker
like character wise, those guys really express themselves through their work. So being like New Japan juniors, I think would be really a good spot for both of those guys in terms of showcasing their talents. Speaking of Zane, I was really happy to see him on this show, too. I just knew Japan's such a good place for him. And it was him in a six man tagging with FDR.
00:51:12
Speaker
Which for just a show at the fairgrounds, having the actual IWGP tag team champs there, pretty big deal. That's pretty cool. They took on United Empire. They ended up actually losing to United Empire and United Empire called them out for a title match. And which members of United Empire? Kyle Fletcher, Mark Davis and TJP. OK. I think obviously Zane took the pen.
00:51:43
Speaker
on that one, but, um, and I don't know where that match is going to happen, but it seems like soon and hopefully. Well, there are rumors of a new Japan show in New York at some point in the fall. So, um, I am definitely in for FTR Aussie open if that happens. And my baseball team is not playing a playoff game that I can attend that.
00:52:07
Speaker
Uh, next one, Alex Shelley and Kushida went to a 20 minute draw. It was good. It was fine. But the next one, I have a couple of questions for you guys. I feel like you guys have deeper new Japan knowledge than I do. Has new Japan ever done hardcore matches? Like, is that a thing? Like other than like Kenny versus Kenny Jericho. Yeah. I mean, it's not, not really something you see.
00:52:37
Speaker
in New Japan canonical. I mean, you'd see like there was like Muda and... Onita? Who was it? And Onita. They did like an exploding barbed wire, like during those kind of zany like late 90s, early 2000s, even New Japan would occasionally have those. Really?
00:53:01
Speaker
Mm hmm. Like not outside of FMW, like that stuff took place on New Japan's watch. Yeah, like three ever like not. It wasn't like common back then. But there were there like if you go to but like they're on New Japan World. So like you can find like if you search for Oneida on New Japan World, like you can find like there's definitely one with him and Muda or I think there's two with him and Muda.
00:53:28
Speaker
But yeah, again, there's just a handful ever. And then, like, you know, there's definitely some of the Tokyo Dome stuff, you know, because they had Ring of Honor guys and impact guys for a while. So sometimes like those guys would just kind of work like they were in Ring of Honor or impact. I can't think of a match that was overtly like a hardcore match other than the Jericho Omega one. Yeah, I mean, they'll occasionally do like a plundery sort of match like
00:53:56
Speaker
from the Tokyo Dome this year, Tanahashi against Kento was like a plunder match. And they did it so poorly that Kento was like broken for like six months. But that was again, to be clear, not like a death match. It was more like a American style hardcore match. So I think I do. So how hardcore did Mox and Desperado go?
00:54:20
Speaker
I was expecting zero hardcore. Honestly, my expectations of this were that we were going to just have to be happy that we got to, one, see Jon Moxley in a building at the fairground, and two, be happy that we're actually seeing him fight a new Japan guy. So it's- I love Despy. Yeah. Yeah.
00:54:41
Speaker
And as they're setting up, they're bringing out barbed wire boards. I'm already caught off guard by that. And then partway through the match, Mox tears open Desperado's, the top of his mask, kind of scalped the mask a little bit. And you can see Desperado blading, but I also, he still had a mask on. So I'm assuming he was gushing under there. I didn't see it.
00:55:07
Speaker
but the barbed wire was pretty gross. Desperado pulled out skewers out of his pocket and skewered Moxley in a New Japan match. Towards the end, they went under the ring and pulled out a very GCW item, a board covered in halved cans. Damn, that is like, that has to force, and Desperado was the one that took the finisher onto the halved cans.
00:55:36
Speaker
Like that is definitely not something you see. In the New Japan ref, 100% did not know how to delicately pull barbed wire from Moxley's back. When he went, he literally just yanked it off of him and it made a very sickening sound. Like you could hear the tear of the barbed wire coming out of Moxley.
00:55:56
Speaker
And I got, I mean, the match went like 17 minutes, which was, I got way more out of that than I thought. Like I thought it was going to be a halfhearted brawl around the arena match. They did a fucking death match in New Japan. I am very intrigued.
00:56:12
Speaker
I'm a little worried for Jon Moxley's mental health. Like he's sober, he's a father, he's the AEW world champion.

Jon Moxley's Hardcore Journey

00:56:22
Speaker
And he is, and again, this is like, again, there's not a lot of modern guys that are like still in their prime. He's a legitimate famous person, right? There's only a handful of pro wrestlers in their prime that are actually famous people. It's like Roman Reigns, him,
00:56:43
Speaker
That's it, like, you know, like pretty much everyone, you know, of under 40 famous wrestlers, like legitimately famous. And maybe the Miz, I don't know, is he under 40? Logan Paul, of course. 23 million YouTube subscribers. And like, he's doing this shit against Desperado on a card that may
00:57:11
Speaker
beyond the New Japan streaming channel. We're not sure, it might be. That is the most exposure it's getting is the like 7,000 people that order that. Like I have no idea what their numbers are, but like I had New Japan World, I did cancel my subscription like six months ago, but I had it for a long time. There's no app.
00:57:37
Speaker
You're doing it through web browsers. Getting it on a smart TV is damn near impossible. Right. And if you're a fire stick guy, you can do it with a lot of struggle, but there's a lot, a lot of struggle and no fast forwarding. Nope. You got to want to sit there and watch it like you're in a movie theater. You can fast forward. It's just not at all accurate. You just have to accept it right next to an extra couple of minutes of Yoshi, Yoshi, but I'm fine with that.
00:58:06
Speaker
And I learned if you pause it on the Amazon fire and like you go and like, I don't know. Take a shower. Just do something that takes more than like 11 minutes. You're fucked. You got to start right back at the beginning. It's not going to remember where you left off. Very important. That's where it left. Don't take that fucking shower facts. You smell fine. Yeah. Sit here. Sit here in your filth and watch New Japan.
00:58:34
Speaker
The Japanese so technologically advanced, no interest in giving us an application to enjoy their product, no interest. They're all about the ticket, analog ticket sales. That's what drives them. You know what? They could do something really great with Beastman. Him in the G1.
00:58:57
Speaker
You know, they always have random big guys that usually are boring and don't like great. Oh, who would you rather see in the G1 great? Oh, con fucking beast, man. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that costume is going to be a hell of a time getting through customs, but it'll be worth it in the end. All right. Well, what else? Because we're getting it. We're getting we're getting deep in here. What else? What else have you seen this weekend? Garrett, that we have not covered yet.
00:59:26
Speaker
Well, the roast, right? You were at the flare roast. The flare roast was bizarre. It was dark. It was sometimes funny, mostly dark. Some like sports people that I'd not heard of doing jokes. Weirdest part of it, surrounded by large men in suits, drinking, kept blocking my view, which I also have to, I have to give a shout out to my buddy Vince from the We Watch Wrestling podcast.
00:59:49
Speaker
They had some wristbands for the Starcast event. They didn't end up making it. He passed them over to me. That's why I attended some of the Starcast stuff. So thank you, Vince. Appreciate it. But yeah, I was surrounded by these large men in suits and I'm like, who are these fucking guys? Like, why are they so big? Who are these assholes? They're surrounding me. I was annoyed. I moved down a little bit. And as I was looking at them, I realized like, these aren't wrestlers. This is the Tennessee Titans.
01:00:16
Speaker
This is literally the football team drinking at the Ric Flair roast, obstructing Garrett's view. Yeah, that was what it was.
01:00:30
Speaker
I think they were good last year. I'm not a football guy. The Titans choked bad last year. They were big favorites and lost in the first round of the playoffs. They were Super Bowl darling. And I personally lost a great deal of money on that. So fuck them. I agree. Fuck them. They kept blocking my view. And you know what? I hope it happens next year, assholes.
01:00:56
Speaker
That's, they're big men. They are, they are large people. I don't want to say that to them. Unlike, unlike Shane Douglas, I'm very confident they're not going to listen to this podcast. Yeah. Yeah. They got, they, if they have nothing better to do than listen to us, then they deserve what they got last season. I wish, I mean, I wish you had more money out of it, but unfortunately. But thanks for subscribing. Yeah.
01:01:24
Speaker
Thanks for sticking with Garrett and for 11 months of silence. I also, I did take another buddy, his first wrestling match ever. We sat front row center for GCW versus the people.
01:01:40
Speaker
honestly just kind of a standard good fun GCW show. The main event was Moxley versus Christian as fun as you'd want it to be and that is I was trying to explain to my buddy who he doesn't watch wrestling this man is very very famous and we are touching distance to him like this is very cool and I don't know how to explain to you like
01:02:05
Speaker
this guy's super famous. I don't want to explain that he's, he's that close to touch him. And he's here, because the only way he can feel is through pain. And that not only the pain physically inflicted, but of distance from his wife and child.
01:02:27
Speaker
in his possible surroundings. Like it'd be one thing if he was near away from his wife and child in like a nice room, but he needs to be, they were like, Mox, do you want like a private dressing room at the fairgrounds? And he's like, no, no, no, no. I want to be in the main dressing room. I want to be in like the corner. Like just put me in the corner, just next to whoever, whichever member of the GCW locker room farts the most,
01:02:56
Speaker
put me next to him. That's probably Shane Mercer. Yeah, it so is mocks a method actor. Is that what you're telling me that like this is his Daniel like he's the Daniel Day Lewis a pro wrestling that he just he has to be sad. He has to be away from his family. He needs to get a few cuts on him. I mean, or or is he just a manic depressive who
01:03:26
Speaker
That's it. And then he just happens to wrestle. That's his job. It's not like he's even doing one for the other. I don't know. I'm just saying it's the funk career arc, right? I mean. No, right. I mean, Terry was not in his prime when he was doing that, right?
01:03:48
Speaker
He was an NWA world champion and then doing hardcore matches in front of 500 people.

at a moose lodge. That's true. We literally just watched this man beat Tana Hashi in the United Center for a major title. And then a few weeks later, I'm watching him getting barbed wire tore out of his bag for 500 people. You're right. That's unhinged. It's not really there.
01:04:24
Speaker
presumably main eventing their biggest show ever in almost exactly a month, right? Maybe against CM Punk. If not CM Punk, they're gonna put someone really good, you know, wrestling Chris Jericho for the title in two weeks, you know, like, I don't know. It's just, to me, I legitimately feel like this is a cry for help. And again, I can't convey this enough that like,
01:04:54
Speaker
Hangman Page delayed his winning the world title by three months when his wife had a baby. Jon Moxley is having guys blade under masks for his own perverse pleasure.
01:05:17
Speaker
I was in matches that aren't going to be on the air. Which he likes. So his wife can't find it. That's true. They were going to put they were going to put that on New Japan World. And he was like, sorry, guys, you can sell that on fight. She won't pay for it. But she has New Japan World and she will find it. So you guys just have to bury this. Maybe just or you can put the match up there, but don't like there's like no time stamp. There's no my name cut out. You can't search for it.
01:05:48
Speaker
So there's no actual iOS app or Android app for New Japan World, but Moxley spent hundreds of thousands of dollars of his own money to hire some top MIT coders to make a fake New Japan World app that he installed on Renee's phone, that just anytime she goes to New Japan World, it just shows matches that he did four years ago against Lance Archer.
01:06:19
Speaker
God, you say that, you know, he's hiding this from her. He's just like, hey, Renee, I'll be right back. And he goes, she is in the other fucking room signing autographs for 40 bucks a pop. And he like leaves, comes back bleeding. He's like, I don't know what happened. I slipped in the bathroom. No, it was just me and Sean Spears, you know.
01:06:42
Speaker
We just worked about nine minutes and I got some ketchup on me. I got a hot dog afterwards, you know? I'll have a hot dog. It is true. I googled a lot. I quick Google there, right? So Moxley is currently 36. Terry Funk at 36.
01:07:05
Speaker
That was 1980, admittedly fairly far from him doing death matches. It was at least another decade before he was regularly doing death matches in Japan. So fair point. Mox is a crazy person. Well, and again, and we don't know exactly what he makes, but like John Moxley, without needing to wrestle anything other than AEW, is pulling in comfortably seven figures, right, per year.
01:07:32
Speaker
like probably, like, like probably significantly over the floor of that. And he's presumably making very little more working GCW, let alone GCW and New Japan. And the new, even the June of Japan, like the New Japan people are like, no, we don't do this. We can't put this on TV. And he's like, great.
01:07:57
Speaker
I don't want it
01:08:14
Speaker
He's a Marvel movie director. He's like, I got to do the big studio movie so I can do one for Mox. And then he goes and bleeds in this room for a little bit. Nobody sees it. It's a small indie production. He's like, you know, maybe it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it makes the people smile. I like it. Yeah, I mean, he he may be the first true auteur of wrestling. You know, it wasn't
01:08:44
Speaker
Flair or Omega or any of the Masawa or Kobashi. It's Moxley, and it's now. And I do think that's part of, I mean- Why is he a crazy person? I can't outrule that he's a legitimately, significantly chemically unbalanced person, which is what I would bet on.
01:09:03
Speaker
It is kind of, again, it's incredibly endearing, right? Again, all of us over the last couple of months have gotten to see, by far, again, one of the biggest stars in professional wrestling in like a small hall, first or second row, wrestling in indie talent, because just because he feels like doing that, I feel lucky that we get, that we have Jon Moxley just wandering the country, bleeding in front of us for no particularly good reason. I'm like, that's,
01:09:32
Speaker
Great fan service. Yeah, where his buddy Roman Reigns isn't doing shit for me. Like John Moxley is in a not even a Bengal Hall. He's in a shed at the fairgrounds like he'd.
01:09:45
Speaker
A lot of talk, a lot of talk from Brian Danielson and CM Punk about how much they love wrestling and how much they want to work with the young guys. Jon Moxley's out there in fairgrounds working. Like, uh, uh, Brian Danielson is getting interviewed by Mox's wife on the other side of the table. And again, Mox, I want to be clear while that interview was happening, basically, right? Mox is like skewering, is getting skewered by Desperado.
01:10:10
Speaker
which he's in the back looking at, he's like, Despy, I don't know if you understand, these go here, put them in your pocket, you're going to need these. Despy's done Big Japan, so I do think he's aware. I'm curious, like he got to think.
01:10:25
Speaker
I'm just imagining, Danielson's like, Hey, I'm over here. Should I come watch your matchbox? I bet because it's Japan, right? You're going to get to really bust out like the holes and the tight, the tight moves. And he's like, Oh, oh no, Daniel. So this is going to get fucking gross. This isn't your wrestling. This is mine. Go talk to my wife from it. Keepers, keeper company, keeper company. Keep talking or keep telling stories.
01:10:52
Speaker
Although that pool combat club looks out for each other. Yeah. It's interesting. Those guys are tag team partners. Cause you know, like, you know, one of your kids and stuff like that, you, you imagine, Hey, tag team partners are probably hanging out like behind the scenes afterwards. And the more you read, you run. Oh yeah. That's generally true. Like tag team partners do travel together a lot, but like, I can't imagine outside of what is televised Moxley and Danielson have anything to say to one another.
01:11:18
Speaker
right? It's like, I think they do, but it's only about wrestling. I think they only talk about wrestling. They would call each other up and discuss a match they watched for an hour, but then they would hate like, like he'd be off the phone and Bree would be like, how's mocks doing? No clue. How's, how's the baby?
01:11:38
Speaker
I honestly forgot he had one. Like they just would never, I think they just don't talk about anything else other than wrestling. The huge one I disagree, I feel like it would be like the big like heavy metal metal head talking to like the big, you know, hip hop fan.
01:11:54
Speaker
Like they both love music. They both spend a lot of time with music. They're not going to talk to each other. They're not listening to the same shit. Oh, I know. I think they both love. There's a lot of that new Japan stuff I think is overlap. And I think there's a lot of stuff that's overlap with the two of them. More than more than we think. Of course, they watch every beast man match. They get their hands on. They break it down.
01:12:18
Speaker
The Beastman Combat Club, they'll soon be known as. Yes. Before we head out, I did want to say, I wanted to say this because I did do a lot of the star cast stuff and I wanted to, I did want to talk about how bizarre like going to these things are, but we are running out of time. I can say that I do just want to say I ran into Nick Gage and when I said hi, he looks great.
01:12:42
Speaker
He's been working, last week I didn't know he was working out, it's Jordan Oliver is working out with Nick Gage. And like, seems like he's keeping him accountable, he's doing all these videos. And I went over and I started talking to Nick Gage, and I started to bring up like, yeah, you did the cameo for me. He's like, yeah, I know.
01:12:59
Speaker
He's like, yeah, how's your wife doing? When he asked how my wife was doing, I was like, oh, thank you, and told him a little bit about what was going on with the baby. And then I just said, hey, man, you're looking good. I'm happy to see the workout videos. I was like, you mean a lot to a lot of people. You inspire a lot of people. We just want to see you be OK. And then he looked me right in the face and just started hitting me with the Nick Gage motivational speak.
01:13:26
Speaker
And I shit you not, when I walked away from him at the end after he hugged me, I was fucking crying. It's star cast by myself. And I think my favorite story arc of all time in television is the six season arc that Tim Riggins has in Friday Night Lights.
01:13:47
Speaker
This isn't even TV, but now my favorite story arc of all time is me and Nick Gage's story arc from the beginning of Predetermined until him knowing who I am, asking how the family's doing. And at one point, he told me how proud he was of me.

Listener Feedback and Raw Critique

01:14:04
Speaker
And I am walking away crying. I'm like, this is the man who three years ago bled on my seat. I was terrified of him. And now I love him to death like he's family.
01:14:17
Speaker
Oh, but I think the difference is that this this season isn't getting canceled right after this. So you've got to follow this arc and see where it goes. And I think that you've got to be Conrad to his Ric Flair one day. Right. When when. Because he's another one that's he's got to die in the ring. Right. I mean, Nick Gage would never die anywhere else. Also, I'm just the bright light thing. It really is hitting me that Brett Lauderdale is Billy Rickins.
01:14:47
Speaker
Fairy Billy Riggins. Wait, is Billy the brother or the dad? The brother. The brother, okay. Yeah. Yeah, he's a bad influence. He's not yet. He's trying to be a good influence, but he's not always a good influence.
01:15:08
Speaker
You know, who do I need to be to Tim Riggins then? I mean, Moxley, not Moxley, but Gage is obviously Riggins here. Who? My Jason Street? Like, am I in a wheelchair following Nick Gage around? Like, trying to get him to not... Lala. I'm trying to get Nick Gage to not go inject shark DNA into himself in Mexico because it'll make him better.
01:15:35
Speaker
No, that's you being rigging to him. That's it's very confusing. The Friday Night Lights guys. Great show gets weird sometimes. I'm Landry. I killed a guy. And now we got a we're done with Friday Night Lights. We're done. But I last week we had mentioned two things from last week. We brought up Birellis.
01:15:54
Speaker
And a friend who listens to the podcast, Jeff, he did say, I saw the waitress musical three times. He's like, I just want y'all to know there is overlapping fandom of pro wrestling and Sara Bareilles. And the other was, let's see, I have the tweet pulled up here. Our buddies, the listeners of our show, Matt and Lowell, both from Canada,
01:16:19
Speaker
They commented on you guys and what you should yell at Control Your Narrative that could get you kicked out. Matt said, at Wrestle Hangout, Lowell's signature crowd spot is yelling, finger his asshole during any submission spot. Might be something to think about at your CYN show, but not in the rant room. And EC3 ain't gonna like that.
01:16:50
Speaker
I don't think they will. Yeah, I mean, that's pretty good. I mean, I guess my what was I saying last week is just like kiss him. I think it was this is better. I mean, it is a tour. Lowell can go to the show, too.
01:17:04
Speaker
Are they going to Canada? Are they allowed in Canada? I don't know. I'm not sure. You can't control. Okay. No, no, no. Hey, I can guarantee you they're not going to be in Canada. And you know what the reason why is, unvaccinated Americans are still not allowed into Canada. And I'm pretty sure that there's no way that CYN can bring enough of the roster is vaccinated to make the trip.
01:17:28
Speaker
There's only two things and this is Braun Strowman, by the way, talking to you. There's only two things in Canada. Poutine and pussies ain't going. I will say, by the way, before before we log on, and Braun don't eat either. Speaking of eating, speaking of eating, the one thing the one thing I forgot to mention about my conversation with Dutch is that he did confirm that the spices are good.
01:17:58
Speaker
Insane insane the spices are good. So I'm excited. I'm gonna I'm gonna get some we're gonna order some we're gonna have do a little grilling The other thing is there was a lot of tweets. We're taping this right now during
01:18:11
Speaker
Monday Night Raw, there were a lot of tweets about how good tonight's Raw was supposed to be. It is 10.20 Eastern time, as I say this. We've all had Raw on somewhere in the vicinity of us to keep like a half an eye and nothing has seemed particularly exciting. I apologize if we missed something very exciting while talking about Beastman, but I don't think it's happened so far.
01:18:35
Speaker
Listen and we won't get a news i go twenty more minutes on this and i know we're out of time but i'll just say this there were no commercials for the first hour so i actually flipped it on and normally i only flip during monday night football is the only time i get desperate enough for i figured hey no commercials the first hour. At the end of that commercial free hour they were in the middle of the second match.
01:18:58
Speaker
And while there, I guess, were no technical commercials, it was about 35 minutes of videos for Peacock. Like, I'm dead serious. It was just recaps of things I didn't give a shit about and just bullshit. It was fucking awful. Back to Bareilles, baby. Back to Bareilles. It always comes back to Bareilles. Five Ever, or whatever the show's called. Girls, Five Ever. Quite good.
01:19:26
Speaker
That's what I hear. That's what I hear. Go watch that. I will watch that. Yeah, I will watch that instead of raw next week. Actually, we should review some burrellies next week just to spike the show on over my shoulder. I'm into it.
01:19:44
Speaker
Alright guys, thanks so much for listening this week. I have no idea what we're talking about next week. Do you guys? I mean Beastman. I know we're talking about Beastman. I don't know in what context, but we'll be talking about Beastman, I'm sure. I think we're gonna keep our narrative controlled. Again, probably that too.
01:20:00
Speaker
That's true, I did see Killer Cross, didn't mention him once. Came across Matt Cardona this weekend, asked him no control or narrative questions, because I fucking forgot. I feel like a big asshole. Yeah, thanks so much everybody for listening. We will be back next week on social media. I am at Gartet. There's predetermined social medias. I have not checked them in 11 months, to be honest. Just hit me up at at Gartet if you need to. Adios. See you soon.
01:20:32
Speaker
Oh, and leave a rate, review, subscribe thing. Oh, do that. Definitely subscribe and rate it. Five stars. Like Beastman matches.
