Sully Shaheed: Oh, yes, we are back and a we are approaching the 40 ish day 50 ish day mark to nationals. And a lot of people had a lot of stuff to say. And now we are back on the real edition of what in the world.
Sully Shaheed: to talk what we feel, some rebuttals, some early thoughts on nationals. And Chili and I are going to sit down with our thoughts going into Novi, Michigan for the 2026 Whirly Ball National Tournament. Chilly: Uh, no, man, I've been good. Uh, Worley ball has been good. Um, leaks and stuff have been cool. Uh, we just had that kind of a bigger practice in Michigan two weeks ago, I think it was.
Chilly: Um, so that was real cool.
Sully Shaheed: Yeah.
Chilly: We got to play with our fifth, Mr. Dewitt. Um, we played well, so, um It's real cool. But yeah, man, uh, obviously we got, we got some stuff to clear up in the streets. I got snowy spitting misinformation out there.
Sully Shaheed: misinformation.
Chilly: um I mean, honestly, I honestly, I'm going to keep it a hundred here.
Sully Shaheed: Man.
Chilly: I mean, Hanson has said some really nice thing about us and, ah i I'm going to, I'm going to leave him alone. I think that Hanson's been cool. going to leave him alone. And, uh,
Chilly: You know, he's got, you know, we'll we'll get into C here and we'll we'll go from there. But you know what? You know what, Hanson? You're doing a great job on your podcast. Keep it up, buddy.
Sully Shaheed: You know what? And that's the funny thing about it, because like I do have a couple nice things to say, because if you don't know what we do here on the World East Edition, one first of all, inspired by the original Whirly Ball casters, Noah, Mark Money Mills, and ah and ah Mr. Best Shot in several divisions, Steve Vogt.
Sully Shaheed: So we appreciate the inspiration. We're happy to that we're growing these podcast streets. We're growing the game, chill. We're growing the game. 40 teams. Looks like there's going to be representing nationals at Novi, Michigan. We might have to start on a Tuesday night this year. That's how much we're growing the game. So all the guys in production, the guys that are, you know, ah Mr. Jackson in Seattle, of course, Gus, the originator. Like, we're doing the thing now, man. So shout out to those guys, of course. Sully Shaheed: Yeah, yeah, because we're all about kicking it up a notch here on What in the World East Edition. um The last nice thing I will say, which should have been the intro, but um I just want to give a shout out to several members of the Whirly Ball community. um As most of you know, I went through a lot of mental issues and depression ah in the wintertime, and people like Nina and Justin DeWitt, your teammate now in A,
Sully Shaheed: um Kyle Phillips, they reached out to me directly just to make sure I was doing okay and if I ever need somebody. So this game is beyond a game. Like everybody here is a member of my family, regardless of how much shit they talk and how much shit I talk.
Sully Shaheed: I really appreciate the love and feedback you all gave me. And I am in a much better mental and physical state now. And um that's probably bad news for everybody that has to go against me this year because there's been a lot of... ah ah a lot of slander, um you know, my name by several people, but we'll we'll get to that.

Sully Shaheed: Yep. I reverted and I was like, no, I can't get that because like it was offensive to my now ex-girlfriend who will remain nameless because she's a big, who remain nameless.
Sully Shaheed: Thought it was offensive to her. I wanted to be nice. And now i'm saying, fuck it. I really want to get it now. So

Sully Shaheed: I've moved on to better things. Okay. A lot better things. So again, in a much better place now. So it's been great. um You alluded to earlier that you had a ah practice, bigger practice with some of the, some of the Michigan guys, Chicago guys and girls. um Tell us for those who haven't, if they haven't experienced the new experience,
Sully Shaheed: Experience of the brain cars in Michigan. How was your experience running with those cars?
Chilly: Yeah, so I honestly thought they did a great job on the cars. So shout out to Doug and anybody else who may have worked on the cars in Michigan. um I know a lot the Michigan guys said that this was the best their cars were running in some time.
Chilly: So kudos to you guys.
Sully Shaheed: Hmm.
Chilly: I thought the cars were fine. Um, although they are brain cars, they kind of play a little bit like clutch cars, um, in a little bit of a sense. So, um, I'll let everybody else kind of get used you know, they can kind of get, you know, get there early, get in the car, figure it out. Um.
Chilly: We've obviously gone over some stuff at leagues and stuff, and we'll continue to do that. But, you know, I had some people ask me about the cars, so, i you know, I let them in on it. So had a couple people reach out and like, hey, can you just tell me what the cars are? So, um you know, if you've played in Michigan before, you kind of know. But ah i think this will be the most balanced their cars will be. We're so used to playing there and there, you know, being in the rocket car. so
Chilly: There were cars. There was a couple cars that were like pretty fast, but like nothing that was... nothing you couldn't handle or like nothing that was like completely unstoppable to the point where like whoever's in that is getting what they want.
Chilly: But no, shout out to Michigan.
Sully Shaheed: Yeah.
Chilly: I had no complaints about the cars, so ah kudos kudos to everybody involved there. I think Jason was fixing cars on Sunday for us, so shout out to Jason.
Chilly: Shout out to Doug and them, so ah No, great job on their part. Everything was it was good. me and our our uncle Our uncle was there.
Sully Shaheed: I'm excited. I'm excited. I mean, you know, Michigan's my home away from home. ah Love playing at that center. For some reason, I always shoot a lot better. Maybe it's because of high ceilings, but it's always it's always been nice, always been welcome. Of course, by my my family away from my family is there. You know, shout out to the Willises. You know what saying?
Sully Shaheed: Because it's coming back bigger and better.
Chilly: Our uncle was there. Uncle Carlton.
Sully Shaheed: Was there? Was in the building?
Chilly: Unc was there, man. Unc was there on Sunday. I gave him – I pushed people all the way. I said, my uncle's here. I had to give him a hug.
Sully Shaheed: Yeah, man. Missed playing with him, man. The uncle was in the building. That's what's up, man. i Sorry I missed a good time. But, ah you know, kids and responsibilities and crap.
Chilly: it's a i think i think he's ah so I think he was helping Doug with cars ah during the week. um But i think he's ah I think he's on his comeback path.
Chilly: So I think Carlton's trying to make his way back. um Obviously, he had some medical conditions that you know he was going through. So ah shout out to Unc.
Sully Shaheed: Yeah. Yeah.
Chilly: But I think Unc is ah think he's on his way back. So I hope our uncle is is out there you know doing his thing, head bobbing his way.
Sully Shaheed: yeah
Chilly: So, yeah.
Sully Shaheed: ah
Chilly: so
Sully Shaheed: Extending on layups and yeah, yeah.
Chilly: Hey, man, that's that's my uncle.
Sully Shaheed: Gotcha. Gotcha.
Chilly: i He's never extended a day in his life.
Sully Shaheed: You're damn right. You're damn right. I like that. I like that. So it looks like we're going to have balanced cars. I know it's a little different game that we played last year, you know, with Seattle and everything, you know, their rocket ships of cars.
Sully Shaheed: Do you feel that certain centers, not just the home center, but maybe guys that are used to cars like that, like, Texas or us, obviously. Do you think that provides like some kind of advantage or disadvantage to Seattle because they're not, you know, normally in those rocket ships?
Chilly: I think the upper Seattle players will be fine. So I think their A players will be fine because, like, they know. um Those guys have obviously played there. They've won there.
Chilly: ah So I think their upper players will be fine. i think we're i think what will hurt Seattle, it's it's going to hurt them in the C division, um especially with guys who have never played in any other cars but Seattle. Obviously, you know, Seattle cars, like those things go.
Chilly: can push and be dominant when you want to. ah you you still have to work in their cars, but you don't have to work as hard. Whereas in the Michigan cars, you know there's going be a couple things that you do ah that we've gone over that you know you're going to try it, and boy, it ain't going fucking work. um And I'm sure their upper players have you know gone over that there. But, um I mean, if you if you look in recent memory, like there, mean, outside of 2011, I think that's Seattle swept that year.
Chilly: um i don't think they do very well there, minus A and Unlimited. give or take. And I don't even know if unlimited is one there recently, but you know, with the new team, uh, you know, it'll be a different story, but, um, we'll see. Um, you know, the brain cars, their brain cars still play a little bit like clutches. So maybe it won't be as bad of a job for them, but I think like the lower Seattle players, it'll hurt a little bit, but you know, obviously you got four days, three days to get used to the cars.
Chilly: So, you know, come tournament time, everybody should be ready to go. um you know ah I mean, and think everybody else will pretty much be okay. Texas, I think Texas will be okay. i don't there Texas has really good drivers.
Chilly: of so Plus, I think they have a lot of better teams in a lot of these divisions. So um I think Texas will be okay. i think I think the Chicago cars are shit, so these are probably upgrades for them.
Chilly: Um, so, we you know, we'll, we'll, we'll be there. um I know for us, um, our lower players might, might struggle a little early on with them.
Chilly: you know, like, uh, obviously a team, you know, me and, you know, we're used to those cars. Uh, Brad and Jared are used to the cars. You for the most part, we'll be used to them pretty, pretty much. Um, I think for some of our other guys, it'll take a minute. Um, I know our C players that did play there, Josh, Ty and Eric, um,
Chilly: they They played pretty well, so you know we'll we'll see. ah yeah It'll be new, but it's, again, good on Michigan for getting all brain cards for the most part because playing clutches and brains would have just been would a wild.
Chilly: and wouldve That would have been a wild experience.
Sully Shaheed: Yeah, I mean, it's a completely different game, you know, like from one court to the other with the clutches and brains. I mean, it was a completely different atmosphere. um You know, it's like momentum based in those clutch cars. We just get one one to two cars that can absolutely go one pillow block and they're automatically in.
Sully Shaheed: But it's nice that we're going to see some balance, which will be awesome. And I think it's good for the game, too. You know, there's no one team that's at an advantage, one team that's at a disadvantage. I mean, it's just good, pure, I'm better than you or you're better than me, Worley Ball. So I'm very excited for it. and i think you bring up a great point about um lower division players that have not experienced the cars yet.
Sully Shaheed: um I think they are accustomed to their ways in what they practice at home. And then to learn in the three to four day stint is going to be tough. I mean, like it's and I mean, that's what seating is for, right? That's what the pickup games are for. That's what watching film is for. I mean, just get used to it. But if you're used to doing certain things at home, especially like you said, with Seattle, it's a different transition to these cars. So it'll it'll make a big difference. But at the same time, object of the game, put ball in bucket.
Sully Shaheed: Prevent ball from getting in bucket. So that's what it's going to boil down to. And I think it'll be a really good experience. I've always enjoyed every experience I've had at nationals with Michigan. I think this will be what time number four that I've been to Michigan for nationals.
Sully Shaheed: So
Chilly: 11, we've been there 11, 15, 21. fifteen twenty one Yeah, this will be the fourth.
Sully Shaheed: this would be number four. So that would be sweet.
Chilly: hopefully there hopeful Hopefully their AC doesn't break like the last time we were there because, you know, my whole chain melted.
Sully Shaheed: I'm very excited.
Chilly: i I've never seen a building clear out so fast after, like, the banquet was done.

Sully Shaheed: oh So tell me about um a little bit of experience that you got playing in Michigan with your new fifth, Justin DeWitt. How did that go?
Chilly: It was pretty good. ah you know, obviously you always take everything with a grain of salt. um You know, we didn't lose a game.
Chilly: we i think we tied or three times. twice or three times Um, you know, no, we, we jelled really quick. Um, he was super commutative, uh, like super talkative on the court. So, uh, that helps us. Um, yeah we jelled pretty quick.
Chilly: Um, you know, kind of got him a little bit out of his comfort zone to do some things, but at the end of day, um, you know, he, he played really good for us and, um, you know, and we all just every, after every game, we all kind of got together, you know, just talked about what we liked, what we didn't like. and um and stuff like that. pla you know For us not being able to play against you know other A players for that you know for the year, um it's kind of cool to come out there and be like, okay, yeah all right, we can still do this. you know' So um yeah know we got to play against a lot of them. So generally, most of the Michigan A teams were there. ah Chicago had three out of five, and then they were kind of mixed in with Batanya and Beckett.
Chilly: um so you know again pretty cool uh experience there so yeah we played really well um you know we had a film study not too long ago so that so that helps so um yeah i i we feel pretty comfortable kind of going in there what what we need to do so um Obviously, you know ah you know not point you you know this all the three Seattle A teams are great. The two Texas teams are going to be really tough as well. And then Chicago, once they kind of get you know there their other two back. but ah you know it'll be it It was good, man. It it was good practice. and
Chilly: you know but we knowt We benefited from it for for sure.
Sully Shaheed: I'm glad to hear that. I'm glad to hear that. Like I said, I didn't get a lot of feedback from that practice because, A, I wasn't there. The only feedback I really got was from the Hirsch man, ah you know, who apparently, who's apparently, you know, is an A goalie now because he subbed in a game with you guys and he's better than me.
Chilly: No way. No way. Dude, that dude.
Sully Shaheed: So, I mean, like, what the fuck?
Chilly: Dude. Dude, I saw that stat. I saw Anthony post that on Instagram. I was like, I think I was on the other court, and I was like, I started walking to the next court. I'm like, come again?
Sully Shaheed: yeah
Chilly: i was like, Shit, they like they wanted me to play, but we were getting ready to play in the next game. I'm like, no, no, no, no. I want to see the Hirschman. want see Joshua Hirschman out here.
Chilly: ah his his team so player, so.
Sully Shaheed: Yeah.
Chilly: He's like.
Sully Shaheed: Please don't give him ammunition to hold above my head right now. All right. Just don't, don't do that.

Chilly: me Well, it was that. So we we got done with that. And then, like, but we did a shoot-around, I think, like, the next Thursday here. And, we were like, everybody was doing some, like, one-on-one drills. And I think I came out there, this 1v1 him. And I think on the first point, I think i this I backhanded around him. I'm like, go back down to sea.
Sully Shaheed: da

Sully Shaheed: I go, Oh my God. I'm sorry, Michael. I apologize. Um, you know, it's, it's the voodoo Ranger talking right now. Um, And I hit it between him and somebody else with like two seconds left. And I four handed it from the freaking corner and hit it. And I hit him with the two small all the way other way other way up the court.
Sully Shaheed: I wanted to clip that so bad and then send it to Snowy because apparently I'm as consistent as Tapioca. was that Was that his words? Tappy fucking Oka. Okay.
Sully Shaheed: Okay. All right. right.
Chilly: Hey, man. That was, a man. Oh, Snowy. yeah Yeah, he did say those words.

Now, like I said, what we've done in Cleveland um for the practice for the past six months that we've been working at it. um I mean, I feel like even though I'm the their primary defender on this team, I've been lacing lately. I'm just saying.
Sully Shaheed: So it's been a nice little change, especially since Jarrett got me that new scoop. Oh, that thing smacks. who I'm very excited. Very excited.
Chilly: I mean, don't worry. Like, listen, maybe Snowy is just trying to relate because, you know, he was once a guy who he too struggled to shoot the ball.
Sully Shaheed: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Chilly: So maybe maybe he's just trying to help you.
Sully Shaheed: Listen, and i'm probably I'm probably attempting three shots all tournament, and I'm okay with that.
Chilly: Or maybe.
Chilly: Listen, and as much of us that is a shot on Snowy, I, too, struggled to shoot the ball. That's why I play goalie.
Sully Shaheed: Well, that's where I be, and that's where I live, and that's why... I will be representing once again as the ninth best goalie Whirly Ball. So if you got something to say about it, fucking say it.
Chilly: You know, speaking, let's just bring this up. When did our award, like our rankings become so damn important?

Chilly: He's like, so you had me at number one. I said, you didn't even fucking beat Gil. Not you. I'm like, ma motherfucker, maybe if you want I would put you ahead of Gil.
Sully Shaheed: Oh, see, see, that's the that's the kicker. Right. Because it's like I feel that a lot of people are trying to trying to rest on merit where it's like, oh, I've won this or I've done that or blah, blah, blah, blah.
Sully Shaheed: And then to go back to what was said about like me personally, initially about not putting myself on my own list. Like I can blow my own head up all I want, but all I've done at home is fucking prove it.
Chilly: yeah
Sully Shaheed: And that's exactly what I'm going to this year because I haven't won any freaking titles. Doesn't mean I'm any less of a defender. Right. So this man was at me and says, ah you know, look at his record.
Chilly: Well, I mean.
Sully Shaheed: What has he done? And then Noah makes his case for, you know, being on the list and et cetera, et cetera. I didn't discredit Noah, okay.
Chilly: Okay.
Sully Shaheed: But primarily, the man was picky. And he made, what you want me to cite one play and then be like, oh, yeah, you're all the way at the top? it What? Like, no, brother.

Chilly: Rick was like, you know what? Like, we're not goingnna play in the tournament. We're just going to – Seattle can play Texas for best two out of three, and we're good. So we were like, okay, because it was a free tournament for us, you know, essentially, so free games.
Chilly: And then we ended up – so we ended up finally playing Seattle with Anthony, and I think we crushed them in the – We played him a game before Texas.
Chilly: We ended up crushing him by like 20 or 25. Because I i don't remember. I think i don't maybe Jordan was on that team. He was like, thanks for the warm-up, guys, for beating our ass.

Chilly: And you know they're playing at home. So, ah always kind of get the little bit of a bump up. um Chicago, you know, Chicago's a little bit interesting. Obviously, they ah they moved up some people to B. think the team that finished in second is going up to B. So they also have three C teams. ah Looks to me to be a little bit more of a rebuild year in C for them. um Good individual players. Uh, but a lot of their top talent left. So again, here, it, do they have people that can step up and see, um and get it done? I did see, um, you know, I did see one or two of their C teams play on that Saturday. um
Chilly: sometimes they had moments of brilliance and then sometimes, well, they look like a C team. So, um, don't know. Chicago with the three teams looks like more of a rebuild type of year for them.
Sully Shaheed: understood.
Chilly: Um, And then and then higher are you're looking at Seattle. Seattle has four teams, and it's like you never want to rule out anything against a Seattle team. But with it being in Michigan, and I don't know how many of those guys have ever really played outside of Seattle or may have traveled or – kind of played in like not so great brain cars. Cause I don't know if people have played at our center.
Chilly: ah So for their players that are moving up from D to C, like it's a it's totally different, not different game. Well, it's a, it's a different game. was Let's be real from the Seattle cars and the other cars, you know, so it's like what four teams are.
Sully Shaheed: Right, right, it's the game.
Chilly: Have you, have you stretched your talent too thin? You know, if it, If it were three teams, you know, what what would you be looking at? So um they have some really good individual players and we'll kind of get to some of them when we do the the ah show there.

Chilly: what we'll Yeah, the true prediction show. so And then ah obviously Minnesota, I do believe, is sending a C team. um You know, with Brady and them. So, you know, that'll be interesting as well to see what they, you know, what they got going on. So,

Chilly: um If I'm going to rank like top three in no particular order, ah obviously i I really like our C teams, um the Michigan C team for playing at home. I think the Texas C team is will play really well as well.
Chilly: ah But we'll see as as we get closer. Maybe my opinion changes. yeah
Sully Shaheed: Or maybe this this defined a snowy strategy to beat my team in particular will be the the foil, the what you call it, the Black Knight to our Excalibur and you know kick us out.

Chilly: So huge shout out to him um and things like that. so um i like They also had Andy. Andy played pretty well, too. So, again, like nothing.

Chilly: but Listen, I think. If I'm being honest, I think there's, I think if Andy wants to take the next step, I think there, i think what he has to do um is just be able to take a little bit more direction and not just be as prideful.

Chilly: I understand you may not like the guys that are giving you the direction, but ah you know, the majority of them right now are better. um So again here, that may or may not be his problem.
Chilly: just kind of from an outside perspective. Obviously, I'm not around him enough to know. ah But just kind of from what I gathered here, he's got he's got all the proverbial tools to to take the next step for sure. So, ah you know, if, again, you know, just go out there and prove it. Seattle, I think, is sending two really good B teams.
Chilly: um You know, with them sending some of their players back down to c um I think makes their B team stronger in a sense. I mean, they do have the best shooter outside of Illinois, you know, you know Steve Vogt.
Sully Shaheed: I mean, why why are you even talking about any other team? You could have just started with his team, knowing he's the best shooter, and then just put the title on So, again, why are we even talking about Chicago right now?

Chilly: um Michigan, I think the Michigan team's rather interesting. i feel like if you i feel like if you took an honesty poll for Michigan,
Chilly: I think if they were to drop, I think, I i feel like they would probably want to do two A-teams instead of three. That's just my reaction to Michigan. um Obviously, a lot of, you know, these Michigan teams have a lot of proven veterans on it. Obviously, you know, our boy Billy.

But the fact that Rafael is not on an unlimited team, just A, speaks to the talent that's in Seattle, and B, is still disrespect because it would be an automatic win if Rafael was the unlimited team.
