Introduction and Humorous PSAs

00:00:00
Speaker
Hey everybody, welcome to another episode of Predetermined, a Pro Wrestling Hangout. I'm your host, Derek Halpern. And with me, as always, a man who wants you to stop at train tracks. Don't try and beat that train. It's a bad idea. Derek Halpern. So now my placement on this show is to serve as a public service announcement for things not related to professional wrestling.
00:00:22
Speaker
I don't know if you've been listening to other podcasts lately, but for whatever reason, they have just been stopping and giving you a PSA right in the middle. And I felt like, why should we be any different, Derek? Click it or ticket, Garrett. Click it or ticket.
00:00:39
Speaker
What else should we PSA? What do people need from us? Don't drink and drive. Make sure to get your flu shot. Pay your parking tickets. I don't know. Don't live in Alabama? See, we might have listeners in Alabama. Do they think you should live there? I don't know. Probably. Roll tide, right? Yeah.
00:01:07
Speaker
I feel like as soon as I said that, that was way over your head. Isn't that where Conrad Thompson's from?
00:01:14
Speaker
Is he from Alabama? I thought so. I have no clue. I don't know how this works. This is, this is not my forte talking about the state of Alabama, but you brought it into the equation. We could have, we could have done a million different things for a nice PSA, but instead you decided to turn it into a thing where you tell people don't to go live, don't go live in a specific state. I turned it into Alabama hate speech. Yeah. That seems about par for the course.
00:01:40
Speaker
I'm sorry, but for real, don't cross those train tracks if there's a train coming. It's really big, it can't stop. Yeah, and when it does finally stop, you will probably have been drug along several miles. And let the people know you heard that from pre-determined to pro wrestling hangout, not to cut in front of a train. There's gonna be a moment where somebody sees that train coming and thinks, I can beat it, and then remembers our voices, Derek, and we saved lives today.
00:02:11
Speaker
We saved lives, and hopefully by the end of the show, we will have changed a few lives as well. Hit our goddamn music.
00:02:53
Speaker
I guess I'm talking first today. Well, there's special circumstances for why you might want to talk

Special Segment: Leah Watches Wrestling

00:03:00
Speaker
today. We're doing things a little bit differently. Yeah, we're doing a little something special. We said last week that we were going to have my wife on. I was going to show her Rock and Roll Express versus LAX and Dem Boys, the Briscoes. Maybe this was a big excuse for me to just get her to watch wrestling because if it's for the show, I can make it seem like work.
00:03:23
Speaker
I think it's more alarming to me that you found a scenario where you could have your wife on the show, but you have like a specific lane you want us to stay in. You have a specific subject for us to talk about because you know, as well as I do, that if we just sat here and spoke, we'd both start venting about you. I'm sure that's true. Hey, Leah, my beautiful wife Leah Campbell is here with me. Say hi to the people. Hello, people.
00:03:50
Speaker
Hi, Leah. How's it going? Hey, what's up? Hey, wrestling fans. Like an alien on a planet that she was not necessarily excited about going to. That's how I feel every day, regardless of the podcast. Is that true? Yes, I'm an alien. Oh. I was going to ask, is that what it's like living with Garrett? Well, that too. But someday, if I decide I've had enough, I get to go home to my home planet.
00:04:18
Speaker
Yeah. Which is Game of Thrones, right? Yes. Planet Thrones. And obviously this Sunday I'm gonna make her watch Money in the Bank with me rather than the Game of Thrones finale she's waited a decade to see. Yeah. I hope you guys have more than one TV for this.
00:04:37
Speaker
Oh yeah, I found out we were having a Game of Thrones party. I found out from people who were invited. Not your wife? Nope. Yeah, that's awesome. This is a trend that's been happening. I plan a party and forget to tell Garrett about it. That's fine. Eh, it's fine. How many times during the course of... No, you'll have your moment in the sun here in a moment, Garrett. How many times during the course of a week does Garrett now grab you and say, hey, I want your approval on this pro wrestling thing. What do you think?
00:05:10
Speaker
How many times does he ask me to watch something or just like look at something or get your opinion on something related to the industry more than I was led to believe would happen when he started this podcast because he really sold it to me as this is this podcast is going to be an avenue for him to get all of his wrestling talk out and I won't have to hear as much. And I found that that is simply not the case.
00:05:38
Speaker
And now you're sitting here with us today to talk about pro wrestling. And here I am instead of rug shopping, which was what I intended to do tonight.
00:05:46
Speaker
So last night I showed Leah two matches. I didn't tell her anything. I just kind of showed them to her. I wanted her to react to them. These two matches I mentioned just a second ago. Rock and Roll Express versus LAX at Janala's Spring Break 2. And then at the Crockett Cup when Rock and Roll Express took on the Briscoes. What was the specific motivation with wanting to show her these matches?
00:06:11
Speaker
think overall Leah is fond of the elderly and doesn't want to see bad happen to them and you feel like these guys are victims I mean to me it felt like they're victims it seemed like they want to be there they're getting paid to be there they did make some money but was it worth it
00:06:35
Speaker
I mean, they get to be the ultimate deciders of that. That and Leah. Leah gets to decide if it was worth it. Leah, was it worth it? The jury is still out. Don't you need to see the pay stub first? Yeah, I need to see that pay stub. I need to know how much merch they sold that night, and then I'll decide if it was worth it. Money talks. I was going to say, if you're an old person to get your ass kicked, but it's for the right amount of money, maybe it's worth it.
00:07:06
Speaker
Maybe, depending on their healthcare situation. Yeah. Okay, so this match starts and LAX comes out. You've seen LAX before, Leah. You saw them when they were in Nashville at the Impact Show. Yes. This was your first experience seeing Rock and Roll Express. Yes. They walk through the curtains, Ricky Morton, Robert Gibson. What is your first thought looking at them?
00:07:33
Speaker
Um, my first thought was why am I watching this? What am I doing? Um, both fair questions. And then from there, I just, I, I was ready to watch something that was going to haunt me. You married the right guy for that. Oh, geez. The hair was nice.
00:08:01
Speaker
The name Ricky Morton really tickled me a lot because it's very similar to Ricky Martin, which I don't know if you wrestling fans know who Ricky Martin is, but he is a singer who you may remember from various hits like She Banks. Okay, okay, okay. I'm cutting you off there. Which also this week Darby Allen was asked if he could wrestle anyone, who would it be? And he said, I don't know. I don't watch wrestling. Ricky Martin?
00:08:33
Speaker
Full circle. Inside out. Live in La Vida Loca. It's the cup of life. Olay, Olay, Olay. Okay, but for real, you see LAX come out, you see the Rock and Roll Express come out. When did you start feeling concerned for these two?
00:08:51
Speaker
Really when I heard their name is the rock and roll express because that name is just like weirdly nostalgic. It makes me feel like I'm in like a 50 style diner with like that jukebox that has the neon lights around the top and like all the formica tables, milkshakes. They seemed like they were from a more pure time and they are not ready to tussle with LAX.
00:09:19
Speaker
I mean, that's fair. Rock and Roll Express? Come on. Would it be fair to say that PCO has appropriately changed with the times while the Rock and Roll Express is still stuck in the early 80s? They're stuck in a weird time. They're like stuck in the 80s, stuck in the 50s. And Ricky Morton has successfully just held on to that haircut.
00:09:43
Speaker
I loved that. I was a big fan of that. That's dedication. I mean, that guy's probably got like grandkids and lots of family pictures with Santa and I want to see all of them. Okay. How old do you think they were based off of looking at them?
00:10:01
Speaker
Oh, Jesus. They're pro wrestlers. They could be in their 30s. Right. They do not age gracefully, traditionally. I would say that they are solidly in the 67 range. Ricky Morton is 61 years old. Robert Gibson, the one that has eyes that go two different ways. Yes. 60 years old. Oh, fuck.
00:10:28
Speaker
Okay. Combined 121 is what you're saying. With a combined age of 100. I was going to say that should absolutely be how they're announced. After a second rewatch on these, I realized that Robert Gibson is not taking bumps and Ricky Morton is out there just throwing his fucking body. And he doesn't have much left to give either. So.
00:10:53
Speaker
I was very impressed with the athleticism of these men, to be honest. I was fully prepared to watch either some old dudes kind of get slaughtered, or I was ready to watch some old dudes kind of phone it in and ride on the coattails of their previous careers. And neither happened. They gave it their all.

Discussion on Wrestling Teams: Briscoes and More

00:11:17
Speaker
And I mean, Robert Gibson gave it as much as he could with he never fell down.
00:11:22
Speaker
He might have a bad hip. Give him a break. My question for Leah is do you think that now in our early 30s that Garrett and I could match the athleticism of the rock and roll? Absolutely not. That's a very honest answer. I don't think I could and I had that thought as well.
00:11:44
Speaker
Wait, we can't keep up with a couple of 60 year olds, Garrett. You know, I couldn't fight SCU. I'm not fighting the Briscoes. I don't even want a picture with the Briscoes. That's why we stay on this side of the mic.
00:11:57
Speaker
safely on this side of the mic behind a computer screen. Fucking nerds. During the LAX match, the commentator, while Ricky Morton's in the ring, says, oh my god, they're still in great shape. And he was in such a bad position when he said that in his guts hanging over his pants. And I was like, I'm in pretty good shape too. I did think that was funny. And then after they started falling down, throwing people, I was like, all right, you're correct.
00:12:27
Speaker
But you would say that the one against the Briscoes, they took a much harder beating. Wait, who are the Briscoes? Dim Boys, Leah. Oh, that's the same person. What, the swamp monsters? Okay, I have more questions about them, to be quite honest. That's fair. Are we ready to talk about Dim Boys, the Briscoes? I would love to hear your thoughts on Dim Boys.
00:12:51
Speaker
Okay, so my understanding is that they're from Delaware? Sandy Fork, Delaware. Sandy Ford? Fork, Sandy Fork, Delaware. Is that a normal Delaware accent? I might be wrong about what Delaware is.
00:13:11
Speaker
I don't think about Delaware unless it's in the context of that scene from Wayne's World where they talk about Delaware. Yeah. There's no flavor in Delaware. All right listeners if you're from Delaware can you please write in and let me know if this is how people in Delaware talk because if I had to guess I would have been like oh these guys are from
00:13:36
Speaker
Alabama the deep deep south like Cajun accents Because I don't really know what those are either Well, okay the story of that match we've talked about this one here before but it is the briskos basically coming out and saying You're really old and we're gonna fucking retire you we're gonna give you an option to not do this match And then they proceed to kick their the heads in it plays out the way you would expect oh, it's the exact way I
00:14:06
Speaker
I'm not done talking about the Briscoes. So they're chicken farmers? Correct. In real life? Yes. IRL they have a chicken farm. Is that a known part of their gimmick though? I think that's just something people know about the Briscoes. I don't know how often they bring it up on the show. Cause it's not really relevant to what they do with their other career, right? I think it is. Yeah. I think that chicken farming and wrestling go hand in hand. Everyone knows that. Well, I'm learning.
00:14:37
Speaker
I would like to see a kind of MTV Cribs of their chicken farm. Do you think the chickens are happy? You know what? I bet they are. Free range? Yeah. They got those brown eggs? Yeah.
00:14:55
Speaker
That's why the Briscoe's pants are frayed at the bottom. Those happy chickens are pecking at their shorts. No, their pants are frayed at the bottom because they bought pants and then cut straight two inch fringe about five inches off the bottom of their pants. I don't know what the intended look was, but
00:15:14
Speaker
Okay, so end of the day, should Rock and Roll Express continue wrestling? Should we be feel bad for ourselves for wanting more of this? And most importantly, how did you feel that your husband was like, I want to watch you. I want to watch you watching a couple of old guys get the shit beaten out of them a couple of times. Okay, let's start with yes, you all should feel bad that you want to watch more of this. Let's just get that that I did. Let's be clear.
00:15:43
Speaker
I'm doing the, all of you listeners, you should feel bad. These old men should not be doing this anymore. They're gonna die in the ring, for sure. What were my other questions?
00:15:59
Speaker
How do I feel about Garrett making me watch this? I don't know what he wanted me. I don't know what the expected reaction was. I don't know what he thought I would feel about it. I don't know why he felt like these matches were something I needed to watch. I didn't take much away other than
00:16:20
Speaker
Um, Oh, they're going to die here. I feel like this, no, there's actually a good segue here for another question I want to ask. You posted some recent, uh, some recent, a recent ticket purchase on your social media about something that you're planning on taking your wife to. Yeah.
00:16:40
Speaker
So that's that's heavily related to what we're talking about right now. Why is it that you like taking your wife to events where people are going to be massacred right in front of her. That's a great question that until you asked I had never even considered. Are you desperately seeking approval for this hobby of yours.
00:17:03
Speaker
Well, if I was seeking approval, GCW is the wrong place to take her. I'm actually I'm kind of excited about this. Oh, yeah. I want to see some light tubes and some blood. Oh, you're going to. I'm going to wear an all white outfit and see how much blood I can get on me before we leave. Garrett, are you going to let her wear safety goggles? I feel like I should. I'm 100 percent wearing safety goggles.
00:17:31
Speaker
See, that's not the authentic experience. Oh, okay. Well, my health insurance isn't that great and I don't want to contract any blood-borne pathogens. I seem to recall somebody asking Garrett if he would be... What's that expression? If you would be an accompaniment to murder? An accessory to murder? If somebody had died at the last GCW show we went to together? And now you're going. Like, you know what you're getting into.
00:17:59
Speaker
Oh, I think I actually asked him that question. Yeah. I hadn't really thought about this. Yeah. I remember you asking him this question and now you're going to be there in my spot and he might try to run away while you're sitting next to him. I did try and run away when Derek was with me. I'm not surprised by this and I will be prepared when the time comes.
00:18:20
Speaker
Okay, one last question before you head out. A while back, we had a listener ask, if you could have a match with anyone, who would it be and why? Who do you think I could beat? Ricky Martin. James Ellsworth. Yeah, I could definitely beat James Ellsworth.
00:18:46
Speaker
Oh, shit. How about it's Leah versus Enzo and James Ellsworth? OK, I want to fight Enzo, Big Cass and James Ellsworth. All three of them at the same time, I feel very confident that I could defeat all of them. I'm going to kick their asses and I'm going to take all of their belts. Do they have any belts? They don't even have jobs. I'm going to take the belts that they wore into the building.
00:19:17
Speaker
I'm gonna take that Gucci belt from Enzo. Honestly, I'd much rather have that. All right, Leah. Well, thank you for joining us for the beginning of the show. Thank you, Leah. You're welcome, everyone. I hope this was as enjoyable for you as it was for me. I'm sorry. Just a preemptive apology.
00:19:41
Speaker
All right, now it's me and you, buddy. Any kind of confession you would like to lay out for everybody right now? What do you mean? I'm just saying, like, you know, you exposed your wife to a couple of old guys getting the shit beaten out of them. She came, gave her thoughts on it. Anything else you would like to admit that you're gonna expose her to in the coming years?
00:20:06
Speaker
I mean, I would have absolutely loved to show her PCO versus Matt Taven, but I'd already had her sit through about 40 minutes of Rock and Roll Express, and I thought that might be pushing it. Yeah. You know, here's the thing I'll say about your wife. She's a damn good sport. She is. She is. She deserves full credit for how good of a sport she is. And I hope this season of Game of Thrones ends on a high note just for her.
00:20:32
Speaker
What's funny is right now Game of Thrones fans are acting like WWE fans? I mean us included, because we complain all the time. Well, to be fair, you and I have done a pretty good job of not complaining lately. I feel like lately we've been talking about stuff we enjoy rather than dwelling on things we don't love.
00:20:51
Speaker
Yeah, that could change by the end of the episode.

PCO Match Discussion

00:20:54
Speaker
We'll see. So you said that you did watch the PCO Taven title match from the War of the Worlds tour. I did, and this is as good as any time to talk about that. You said you have a question for me. I have some comments and a question.
00:21:14
Speaker
This was kind of a, every time I watch PCO, I'm just, it's a marvel that the guy has a job because he just stumbles and bumbles through so much shit. It's true, but did you hear how fucking hot that crowd was for him? I did, but it, there's an old expression of, looks like he's lost a step.
00:21:41
Speaker
I think with PCO it's fair to say he's lost several steps, but in return he's gained one hell of a character. Yeah. And I don't know what I went into this match expecting. I definitely wasn't expecting- They did some shit in this match I've never seen. So the kingdom comes out to assist Matt Taven at one point, and they hand him an axe. And Matt Taven proceeds to essentially curb stomp PCO's eyeballs onto an axe.
00:22:11
Speaker
They're working the eye. That was the thing that you messaged to me. Thumb in the socket, and they kept referring to it as his good eye. He only has one eye. Exactly. Yeah. And he's bleeding profusely, and when he is bleeding and climbs up for that moonsault, I was like, here it is. He's doing this blind. This is the time we're finally gonna see him die. He lands the shit.
00:22:36
Speaker
Okay, but my question for you is, what the fuck happened at the end of that match? Were Matt, Taven, and PCO pissed at each other?
00:22:45
Speaker
Sure seems that way, right? Yeah, I just can't tell how the hell that match ended. They both no sold and kicked out at one on different things. And it just did not make sense. At one point, I couldn't tell if PCO was not supposed to kick out at that point, and he did, and then Taven got pissed, and then proceeded to no sell something else he did. There was some confusion on the pinfall. That's true.
00:23:15
Speaker
I don't know, I just could not tell what was happening. But it was a pretty decent match up until then, I thought. I'm not gonna tell you it wasn't a decent match. I just, like watching PCO sometimes is a little bit like, oh fuck. Like, I guess maybe that's, there's a story, like people talk about the story that guys tell in the ring. There's a story every time PCO was in the ring. And it's because you don't know if he's gonna be able to finish executing the move he's trying to execute. And if he does, if he's gonna kill the other guy while he's doing it.
00:23:45
Speaker
Will he execute the move or the other wrestler? Yeah. Question, when did railroad spikes become like a thing? I'd have to Wikipedia railroads and it'd probably be around then. That's funny as shit, you asshole, but you know what I meant.
00:24:03
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know. It seems like lately railroad spikes have been showing up more often though, huh? It certainly feels that way. They're in vogue right now. See, the first I saw this was when I saw Jimmy Jacobs break one out at AAW. And now I feel like I see them all the time.
00:24:23
Speaker
And what is it? I'm starting to ask the really hard questions. Like it's one thing at this point for me to accept that chairs and tables and stuff like that gets used. It's crazy to me that in pro wrestling there are actual like things that are not weapons get used as weapons and things that are actually weapons rarely do.
00:24:43
Speaker
That's true. Well, but that also made me realize, and I noticed this while we were watching some WCW matches. I think it actually may have even been from Slamboree that we watched last week. Somebody just full on clocked a dude with a baseball bat. And just think about that. Like I know Vince McMahon said he doesn't want to use anything that a kid would have in their yard or like, you know, in their house that they could use to hit somebody with.
00:25:09
Speaker
and they really use baseball bats a lot in WCW. I can't imagine how many little sisters got hit with a bat while someone was pretending to be Sting. Yeah, absolutely. And the funny thing is, even if it's like a wiffle ball bat or something, that shit hurts. May not knock you unconscious, but it stings. It sucks.
00:25:30
Speaker
Yeah. So you, you were impressed. You wanted to do a bonus zone episode just for this Matt Taven PCO match. When it was happening, I was just so hyped and I couldn't believe that no, I didn't see anyone talking about this match online. Are you a really big PCO fan? I think it really is just like you were saying that every time it's such a mystery of what's going to happen. Is he going to land it? Is he not going to land it?
00:26:00
Speaker
Who knows? And in this one, I watched him get curb stomped onto an axe and get color. So, fuck it. Fuck it. I don't know. Good for him. Again, we say it a lot, but good for him for being able to pull off this career resurrection. And just so you know, the next night.
00:26:17
Speaker
on the next War of the World show it was the kingdom and a six-man versus I'm trying to maybe it actually was a six-man versus villain enterprises but either way at the end of the match pco went and held up the world heavyweight title so is pco getting a second go at it who knows dude super I know if I know if you had your druthers that's what you would have what what just to put the final nail in the roh coffin
00:26:50
Speaker
Is that how you feel about ROH right now? I don't, I don't. They've got good shit going, but when you have guys like Bandito and, you know, just like Mark Haskins, when I see PC, but also it was a main event at essentially a televised house show. Right. So if you're going to, it's not like they had him headline a huge pay-per-view. And I think for, you know, when I was watching that, I thought, oh, PCO is going really hard because who knows if he's going to get another title shot.
00:27:19
Speaker
Probably never. This was his gift for being able to make it back this far. And we're all proud of him. Derek, we watched a match. Our buddy Kevin left a review last week.

Family Reunion Show and Indie Wrestling

00:27:30
Speaker
We talked about it. He asked us to watch two things. He asked to watch Shimmer 113, which we haven't gotten to yet. But we did watch the other thing he asked us to watch, which was the family reunion show from independentwrestling.tv that took place mania weekend.
00:27:46
Speaker
Yeah, I have some things I want to say about this that I feel like I didn't I don't know I didn't appreciate when this had come up, you know months ago, but Don't you think this is just kind of a rad concept in general? The idea of just having this I really Kevin referred to these as the very endies and I do like referring to them as that because there's kind of
00:28:12
Speaker
Garrett, who was on the show before, not me, has referred to like PWG and AAW and some of those like that as the Super Endies. And I guess, let's go ahead and just refer to these as the very Endies and that's not a knock at all. It's just, you know, they're not getting like new Japan guys over there. It's a different tier. Exactly. It's a different tier and it's kind of like getting to watch some ground up guys. You know, I mean, well, I'm sure a lot of these guys have been wrestling forever, but
00:28:40
Speaker
But I also think that's overlooking the fact that it's almost like an indie promotion all-star game. I mean I just I think that's a bit I don't think that's getting talked about enough. Which is that there should be more shows like this where these different small promotions go in and they have like a match specifically that highlights some of their guys and they share a card together. I think that's a fucking rad idea.
00:29:04
Speaker
and to give some of these small promotions that a lot of these wrestlers, you know, aren't gonna make it to some of these mania shows. And this gives them, you know, a platform. Even if the show was at like noon on a Thursday, there's still a fucking good turnout for this show and the crowd is hyped to see, you know, some of their local indie guys. Right. I think one of the things that...
00:29:25
Speaker
I don't know. It kind of blows my mind. Like if you go to the independent wrestling TV website and you just browse the different promotions that they host videos for, there is so much stuff out there.
00:29:40
Speaker
I mean, I guess it shouldn't be surprising because every region has, you know, their local whatever. And a lot of them obviously share some of the same talent. But it's like no matter where you are in the country, there's some local wrestling that you should be getting your ass out to see. And yeah, after seeing some of these other promotions and seeing some of these guys, there's people that I'm starting to see their names pop up in a lot of these other endies when I'm online.
00:30:04
Speaker
And it's just it's so cool that these guys have this platform. And I'm happy that Kevin recommended this to us because after clicking around on the independent wrestling TV site, these are actually very high quality presentations of these matches.
00:30:21
Speaker
Yeah I was surprised by that too. I mean I don't mean that as a knock but you just sort of you come into something like that with low expectations thinking like just being able to see it at all is kind of a miracle. But then when the quality is actually really nice that's that's good too.
00:30:35
Speaker
And I think with a lot of these, you know, there was a little bit of a stigma to some of the endies where like, well, maybe there wasn't, and I just wasn't going. But before I started going to Southern Underground Pro, I had never been to, you know, like what we refer to as very indie, like these small shows, like small bar shows, small, you know, and after going... Did you assume that if you went to one of these shows, you weren't going to see anything that you would consider good wrestling?
00:31:03
Speaker
I think I did, and I'm really happy to have been proven wrong. And I mean, I was pretty much proven wrong after my very first Southern Underground Pro Show. Yeah.
00:31:14
Speaker
I mean, if you've just been growing up with, I mean, I guess you went through the PWG experience, but that's a different kind. Like you said, it's a different tier. It's a different baptism by fire if you've only been watching WWE your whole life. But we have a segue to get to here in a minute as far as another topic. But I mean, besides WWE, besides AEW,
00:31:39
Speaker
The independent scene is still going to be going strong for a while based on everything that I've seen. I enjoyed the hell out of the Orange Cassidy John Gresham match off of this family reunion show and I think it opened to the show too. It did.
00:31:55
Speaker
Orange Cassidy is the independent wrestling TV champion, and I'm so happy that you finally got to see an Orange Cassidy match. What was your initial reaction to this guy? I know you've heard us describe him a lot, but after finally seeing this guy wrestle... His shtick of just not giving a shit? He's from wherever. His weight doesn't matter.
00:32:21
Speaker
That's some good shit. And how often, and this is a different subject entirely, I guess. I think one of the things that will always work me as a fan of pro wrestling, if you watch a match that's two out of three falls, you almost always assume that after the first two falls, it's going to be tied, right? Oh, absolutely. When it's not, I get worked.
00:32:46
Speaker
especially when it's somebody like Orange Cassidy going up against John Gresham, who is one of the best mat wrestlers in the world right now. Correct. Versus a guy who basically keeps his hands in his pockets. And then I loved also when was it did Orange Cassidy hurt his hand? Oh shit. I'm actually combining it with a new Japan match. Nevermind.
00:33:15
Speaker
Either way, his glasses came off a couple different times, and that was a no-no. But overall, would you want to go check, you want to check out more Orange Cassidy after that, right? I mean, he's just too much fun. That's a fun character, and Gresham's a great wrestler, and getting to watch more stuff on independentwrestling.tv, I'm excited to do that too, because there's a huge library of stuff there.
00:33:40
Speaker
I do wanna talk about two other matches on here before we move on, but for real, Kevin, thanks for finally getting me to get this independent wrestling subscription. This is 100% worth it. You do get a free month trial on your first one. I guess I'll go ahead and just promote Southern Underground Pro, because it's not like we have a code to give people. So you should, yeah, we should, independent.wrestling, independentwrestling.tv, get at us. But until then, use the code SUPGRAPS, S-U-P, GRAPS.
00:34:10
Speaker
and you can get a free month of it and click around man find some like i was loving the shit out of freelance goddamn they've got good stuff going on but in the family reunion show southern underground pro got such a big pop from that crowd well they got hyped up pretty good before the match too it probably helps that the guy announcing was one of the southern underground pro announcers
00:34:36
Speaker
But, just hearing the crowd, you know, cheering for their guys, also saw our buddy Chris from the curtain jerks in the crowd. Hope he had a good time. And he was surrounded by Southern Underground Pro regulars. I just saw a crowd of familiar faces.
00:34:52
Speaker
Does it make you happy when you have enough people in the pro wrestling sphere that when you watch a show sometimes you see people you recognize? It does make me happy. I feel like at this point we know we know enough people from around the country because of pro wrestling that we can watch any wrestling show and eventually see somebody. Right.
00:35:13
Speaker
But okay, so we had Mr. Brickster, O'Shea Edwards, and Cabana Mandan versus Sad Conf, Kevin Koo, Dom Guarini, and Brett Ison. What was your thought on Cabana Mandan? I wanted to talk about this. Maybe one of my new favorite wrestlers on the indie scene?
00:35:31
Speaker
having watched this guy. Doesn't he follow our podcast on social media? I think he does. We've talked about Cabana Man Dan quite a bit on here. He's the toughest guy in Bikini Bottom. Return some love then. He's fantastic.
00:35:47
Speaker
I want to watch more of his stuff. Are you into the flip-flop chop? Yes. I think the commentary said something to the effect of, there are seasoned vets who will tell you that the most painful thing are those flip-flops. That was a fantastic touch.
00:36:07
Speaker
And this was one of the only matches that we kind of knew the build to because they announced it in January. So they had a little bit of a build going into this. So there were actually, you know, this followed Southern Underground Pro storylines. Yeah. Yeah, you got to bear witness to a lot of the build to this show. So.
00:36:25
Speaker
But I do want to give a shout out that main event of Jake Parnell versus Gary J. Jake Parnell, JP Warhorse. We actually sponsored one of his matches against Craig. Yes, we did. And his match versus Gary J. They talked a lot about how this was maybe like the 12th time these guys had wrestled. They were out of St. Louis anarchy. Gary J kind of looks like Sammy Zane, but his chops sound like Walters.
00:36:55
Speaker
Yeah. If you have a good chop, people are going to be into that shit a lot. The last man standing match and they said that at one point these two were doing a match and Gary J undid the top ropes and took one of the hooks of the rope and put it in Jake Parnell's mouth and threw him over the top rope and the hook fucked up and like tore his fucking lip off.
00:37:21
Speaker
Yeah, I saw this. I saw the pictures of the aftermath of this. So they did the spot again. And I wouldn't say that's a botch. I think he did exactly what he was trying to do. If you're putting a hook in somebody's mouth and throwing them, the fuck's going to happen?
00:37:38
Speaker
Oh, um, you, you said you were a huge fan of this main event. Sell our listeners on why they should get a subscription to independent wrestling.tv and why they should check out this show then. Cause this was submitted by one of our listeners. So.
00:37:53
Speaker
For real, I really do think you should. I was going through here and watching some Craig Mitchell. I decided, you know, I've never seen Craig outside of Southern Underground Pro. So I started watching some of his freelance matches. Turns out Craig Mitchell's a hero up here. He's a fucking mega baby face up there, Derek. I watched him fight Nick Gage for a title. Crowds chanting Craig over Nick. But that pissed Nick off something awful.
00:38:16
Speaker
I'm never booing fucking Craig Mitchell again. I'm going to say that I'm a Chicago guy now and just root for him. I watched him get for Craig the whole time. No more Craig. No more Craig. I watched him give Nick Gage a second rope pile driver through two chairs.
00:38:38
Speaker
Craig, you're okay in my book. You've always been okay in my book, Craig. The quality of these freelance... I gotta get up there for freelance, man. The crowd is so hot. I don't know what I was... Like I said, going straight from WWE to PWG was skipping a lot of steps.
00:38:58
Speaker
I definitely should have gone to smaller indies and worked my way up, but I'm going backwards and realizing that I fucked up. I think things like PWG ruined my view of, you know, the very indies. And my mind has changed. I'm going to be on this thing all month while we have this free trial. And to be honest, they I mean, they show the sub shows live. I can watch freelance live on this website. I'm going to do it now. This is awesome.
00:39:25
Speaker
Yeah. And, uh, there's a bunch of good stuff happening in freelance up here too. So I'm glad you check that stuff out and you need to come up for another show when you get a chance, man, we've got two good promotions running. I mean, there's more, I got technically three with warrior wrestling.
00:39:39
Speaker
So I hear Warrior Wrestling, that first show we'd heard bad things, but I've not heard a bad thing since and their cards have been so stacked.

Fan Fiction and AEW Excitement

00:39:48
Speaker
I mean, I would almost call that a super indie. It's true. All right. What are we talking about next? I honestly, I can't wait to do this transition. OK. Garrett, you had advertised on our social media that there was something that you thought that you and I should read. Oh, my God. We we read chapter one.
00:40:09
Speaker
because apparently, well you set it up because you were the one that discovered it, but there's a really long fan fiction that we're gonna be talking about here. So this fan fiction is almost four million words long, and it has been, what, it started in 2004. Correct, I think it was the fall of 2004. A lady is writing some, it's a sweet little love story about Chris Jericho and Stephanie McMahon.
00:40:40
Speaker
And when I hear fanfiction, I immediately assume it's erotic. You would think that. So...
00:40:48
Speaker
As one of the reasons that you thought this was so, I don't know, worth talking about was because of our experience at the Hollywood Diner near my home here in Chicago. That was a bizarre fucking night, and yes, it did make me immediately think of that. So, I think that's a story worth telling on this podcast. Oh, because from the story starts walking through the front door of the diner.
00:41:18
Speaker
Oh yeah. I think we had just gotten back from Riot Fest and we were walking to the Hollywood Diner in Chicago, Hollywood Grill, what's it called? Yeah, the Hollywood Grill. We're walking to the Hollywood Grill, right as we approach the front door, front door opens up, fucking Glenn Danzig walks out, my jaw drops, and he gets in a cab and immediately disappears into the night. It was a two second experience, but we did see Glenn Danzig before this happened.
00:41:48
Speaker
Welcome to Chicago. Now, step step two. So we get in our booth. There's a waitress there that I have seen who has been there for a couple of years at this point. Don't know anything about her, but she's been there for a while. I can't remember how the conversation came up.
00:42:08
Speaker
Maybe you do. It was random. She just brought it out of left field. You're serving the people at your table and the next thing you know you're telling them about how you write Harry Potter Harry Potter homosexual erotic fan fiction online.
00:42:25
Speaker
Mostly Ron and Harry. Mostly Ron and Harry. She specified. Yes. And I remember saying to her, you couldn't have picked a better table to have told this to. What is the address? I have to read this.
00:42:43
Speaker
And Segway, here we are years later, and you see a link that takes you to a Stephanie McMahon, Chris Jericho romantic fan fiction that is extremely long, has been going on since the fall of 2004, is ongoing, right? Like it's not over?
00:43:01
Speaker
Oh, it's weekly. There is a chapter updated weekly. And according to the thing I saw, it said that all of these chapters combined, it's longer than every Harry Potter novel put together. We read chapter one. Spoiler alert, they don't fuck at all. There's no fucking so it's family friendly in theory.
00:43:28
Speaker
It's straight up a soap opera. It is, but I think... Okay, so here's where the writer in me gets upset. I'm upset that there was no context for how this story started. And the story begins and Chris Jericho and Stephanie McMahon are already balls deep into this relationship.
00:43:48
Speaker
Yeah, but if you had kept reading, you wouldn't be mad. I'm sure she's going to Tarantino it and give you some more backstory. I mean, you don't know that. That just starts mid scene. And the funny thing is, I don't know if you realize this, a lot of these other relationships that are alluded to in chapter one of this fanfic.
00:44:05
Speaker
were relationships that kind of made sense. There's an allusion to Randy Orton being with Stacey Keebler, which was briefly a thing in, I think, 2005. There's reference made to Christian having a thing with Trish Stratus. There's reference to Lita being in a thing with Kane. And all of these things are based on stuff that did actually happen in some form or fashion.
00:44:34
Speaker
on WWE television, but Stephanie and Jericho were business partners going into WrestleMania 18, but they never actually played out a relationship on screen. And for that to just suddenly be, first of all, it's mushy. It's fucking mushy shit. It is not erotic. It is not. I wouldn't even say witty.
00:45:00
Speaker
It doesn't have to be. She put in the thing that it's a cutesy story. It's ongoing. I'm sure they fuck eventually, Derek. You can't have that many pages and they never touch parts. I was excited to read this and see where it went. After chapter one, I don't think I can make it.
00:45:18
Speaker
But keep in mind, if I went back and listened to episode one of this podcast, I'm sure I would cringe. I'm sure she progressed as a writer over the span of, she's been doing it over 10 fucking years. I mean, like 15 years. Yeah, 15 fucking years. So basically what you're saying is I need to give this more of a chance. I need to keep reading. I think that a lot of your issues with it will be resolved as you continue. And you base this on what?
00:45:46
Speaker
I base this on if you do anything long enough, you're gonna get better at it. You hope? I hope you're right. This is as good a time as any.
00:45:56
Speaker
If you want to write some fan fiction of your own, hop on over to iTunes and leave us five stars and a nice review. And then if you write that review for us, you can recommend something for us to watch the way we had to check out something for this episode, too.
00:46:16
Speaker
And if you are going to include some erotic fan fiction in your review, be sure to censor any curse words or iTunes will remove it. But, you know, just use some asterisks and tell us who you would. You know what? In that review, let us know what two wrestlers you would like to see some erotic fan fiction between. And maybe Derek and I will write a little something for you. Maybe we will.
00:46:38
Speaker
Maybe we'll sit down and we'll both write one page of erotic fan fiction between two wrestlers and we'll read them and you guys can judge who wrote the best erotic fan fiction. How about that? I'll go double or nothing on this. Wink, wink. If you get on there and you leave us five stars in a review and you write us some predetermined pro wrestling hangout erotic fan fiction. Holy shit.
00:47:08
Speaker
I will watch any three things that you would like, as long as it can be related to pro wrestling or erotic fan fiction. And the fan fiction that we read was very dialogue based. It really was. If you write some Derek and Garrett dialogue erotic,
00:47:29
Speaker
We will read this and we can reenact it and turn it into a little radio play for you and have somebody else read, you know, the everything else. I think that would be entertaining as hell. And I'm hoping somebody out there does it where there's like some weird tension between us and the Rock and Roll Express. Ooh.
00:47:46
Speaker
You can go a million different ways with this, guys. Write it however you want to. Just remember, if you use any swear words, you get a sense of that. But, uh, yeah, I'll watch whatever the fuck you want to watch if you have the time to do that. Or just write it and email it to us at predeterminepodcastatgmail.com, because now I am dead set on somebody writing some erotic fan fiction, and I am mortified with what Lowell would come up with. He's already got his typewriter out. He's sitting there, he's like, and then they wrapped the dildo in barbed wire.
00:48:18
Speaker
That fluorescent light tube was headed straight for his head and somewhere else.
00:48:23
Speaker
and somewhere else. Derek you mentioned going double or nothing. Double or nothing's coming up and we goddamn have not talked about it at all. Well you are headed to double or nothing. Are you excited about it or I mean I guess the more important story here besides double or nothing is that the big news coming out of today is that AEW is officially going to be getting a prime time slot on TNT.
00:48:52
Speaker
Which, more importantly, what that means is Chuck Taylor is going to be on national television, Derek.
00:49:02
Speaker
Yep. He said his first TV match is going to be a three way between him, Charles Barkley and Tracy Morgan. I mean, this has been a rumor for a while now, right? I think there were a lot of people rooting for them to get onto TNT, but it's official now. What's your reaction? Well, I think do you think everybody's still going to be bummed about the title Tuesday Night Dynamite?
00:49:33
Speaker
maybe i don't know it's a little cheesy but i mean but it's on tnt it's an explosive nitro is an explosive it seems like you know just keep it in the same place yeah i think nitro just sounds cooler than than dynamite
00:49:48
Speaker
Well, they don't own the rights to that. I'm excited as hell. I'm happy that they made it to TNT. I think they're going to do cool shit. I'm a little bummed that they are, you know, under the Warner Brothers umbrella on account. I worked there two and a half years and watched them make really piss poor decisions. But I'm thinking Warner Brothers isn't going to have anything to do with this. Well, they're they're just distributing it, right? Exactly. Exactly.
00:50:11
Speaker
I mean, it's the cons and the elite who are basically running the show. They just needed the platform to put the broadcast on. So I mean, this is a huge fucking deal. And hey, obviously you're headed to double or nothing, which is kind of going to be the thing that kickstarts all of this. How are you feeling about the show? What are you looking forward to most? Are you looking forward to going to Vegas?
00:50:35
Speaker
Um, Vegas isn't my favorite place in the world because I'm not a party guy, but I am excited for the show itself. I'm excited for Hangman Page vs. Pac. I'm excited to see Jericho vs. Omega 2.
00:50:51
Speaker
I the thing I've been enjoying is they announced that best friends were gonna be in the pre-show battle royal and they basically were like no we're not doing the battle royal and tried to do a ransom thing and they were eventually awarded a match on the main card and it's a match that I'm so excited to see it is best friends
00:51:13
Speaker
versus Angelico and Jack Evans. And like two days before they announced this match, me and West Coast correspondent John, we're talking about how many good matches we saw Angelico and Jack Evans have at PWG.
00:51:28
Speaker
And Helico got hurt. He disappeared forever. He popped back up in progress. But he hasn't connected with me the same as he did when he was tagging with Jack Evans. So to see those two teamed back up has me so excited. Those guys are such a good combination. What do you think is going to happen when it's Cody and Dustin facing each other and Jericho and Kenny? Is Jericho going to be able to avenge his loss in New Japan?
00:51:57
Speaker
I think they're gonna want Jericho to beat him this time, so that you can get that third big one. I think we're still at the point now where, so the purpose of the Battle Royal that they're gonna have on this show is it's going to determine who gets a shot at the title first, correct? Is it first? It just said a future world championship match. Right.
00:52:27
Speaker
I don't know how this is going to work. Did you see how they're structuring the 21-man battle royale? Yeah, I think that was really creative. I like that. I like that they're already kind of switching up some things. I don't know. Of the guys that are going to be in it, I don't know if any of them are going to be the one to win. I think the battle royale, we're going to get some surprises.
00:52:49
Speaker
And honestly, at this point, for double or nothing, I'm expecting some surprises on this. I feel like we're going to get, you know, at least one big roster announcement that night. Dean Ambrose. I mean, it could be. I know.
00:53:05
Speaker
It could be. I love that Jimmy Ha- oh my god, I mean you're not going to debut Jon Moxley in a battle royal unless you do. Because Jimmy Havoc's in there and all I want now is a Jimmy Havoc Jon Moxley deathmatch. This could be something that happens in the coming months. Do you realize that MJF is now on national television?
00:53:28
Speaker
Yeah, that's what I was going to say when you had mentioned about, you know, the besties being on there. Like MJF is going to be on a national. Is he in the battle royal? He is. Him and Janela are both in the battle royal this year. I could very well see him winning it.
00:53:43
Speaker
Yeah, MJF would be good. Jungle Boys in the Battle Royal, which if you haven't seen Jungle Boy yet, you guys gotta check this guy out. It is Luke Perry who just passed away. It's his son. This guy is so fucking talented. He is only gonna get better too. So when do you head out for Vegas? I head out next Thursday.
00:54:07
Speaker
So basically as the new episode drops, you'll be making your way to Las Vegas. Yeah, and while I'm there, I'm thinking about checking out Suburban Fight Pro, which does no-ring death matches in LA. They're doing a midnight show in Vegas, the night of Double or Nothing. And I think I'm gonna head over there after it's over. The main event is Darby Allen versus Nick Gage in a no-ring death match. Shit.
00:54:32
Speaker
But the other match on that card that has me so goddamn excited, sold me a ticket because of this match, it is a triple threat match, Derek. No ring between Marco Stunt, Orange Cassidy, and Priscilla Kelly. Yes. That is going to be so much fun to watch. I can't even imagine what those three are gonna come up with. That'll be fantastic. Do you think- I saw a lot of people were upset about the price of Double or Nothing though for watching it.
00:55:01
Speaker
Well, right now all we know is that on pay-per-view it's 60, but that would be on television. So that isn't even like a fight.tv app or anything yet. I don't know, I could, but I think it would be fair for them to charge $30 or more for the pay-per-view, don't you? Yeah, probably for that much.
00:55:20
Speaker
I mean, especially because if we're going back to the pay-per-view model where they don't have a streaming service to show us yet, I think people would pay 25 or 30 bucks for this pay-per-view. I mean, even if it's 60, I think people are still going to pay it because everybody wants to support these guys. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see how it pans out. Speaking of upcoming pay-per-views.
00:55:44
Speaker
Did you even know that there's a pay-per-view this weekend? I mean, are we calling the Game of Thrones finale a pay-per-view?

Game of Thrones vs. WWE

00:55:51
Speaker
Ah, not to me. See, I'm out of that realm. I don't have to worry about that anymore. Is that realm Middle Earth? I guess. I don't know where the fuck Game of Thrones takes place. I'm not making fun of people who watch it, just letting you know that I don't give a shit, because I haven't seen a single episode. I'm not bragging, but at the same time,
00:56:12
Speaker
You know, it's the hot topic these days, and hey, I haven't been up to date with all the Marvel stuff either. I've made that clear. Look at me. You're just not much of a TV man. I'm not. I really am not. It's hard for me to watch Raw on SmackDown, and there's a pay-per-view coming up for WWE, so... Well, let me tell you, there's some TV shows that are better than Raw on SmackDown out there. There's a lot of TV shows that are better than Raw on SmackDown right now, which is unfortunate because I think a relevant thing to talk about as we head into Money in the Bank is the fact that
00:56:42
Speaker
There's stuff on the show I'm looking forward to and it's weird because the ratings on Ron Smackdown have been so bad and there's a bunch of stories coming out about Vince and Triple H and all that stuff and it's weird that you and I came out of Mania feeling like we got basically everything that we could have wanted, right? I feel like that. I mean, I remember enjoying Mania a lot. Is that kind of the, I mean, is that kind of the extent of your review of it or?
00:57:12
Speaker
shouldn't you at least be a little bit more marveled that they gave you the show that you thought you deserved for years? And I'm not knocking mania. Like, you know, we loved it. It's just a matter of being able to keep that positive momentum going. And I don't know, like, there's things I like going on. I love what's going on with Bray Wyatt. I'm not done with that. But I don't really know what else is going on right now. Like, what are the big, what are the matches going into Money in the Bank?
00:57:40
Speaker
You've got Seth Rollins versus AJ Styles for the Universal Championship. You're about to watch Seth Rollins and AJ Styles have a match on WWE programming and it feels like not enough people give a shit. You've got obviously the men's and women's Money in the Bank ladder matches. You've got Owens versus Kofi. You've got, I think there's a couple tag matches on there. You've got Miz and Shane at a steel cage.
00:58:11
Speaker
I mean, actually one of the best just steel cage matches I've ever seen was at a WWE house show. And it was Miz versus Dolph Ziggler when they were just fighting every other week and started putting on a pretty good match. Miz had a great steel cage match. I think him and Shane are probably gonna do just fine.
00:58:32
Speaker
So you basically haven't been, you haven't been watching the last few weeks. Not even a little bit, but at least this week I didn't get caught up on anything. No, this is a relevant question. Is there a reason why? Is there a specific reason? Why is it just time? Honestly, this week was time, especially with best of the super juniors just starting. And I really enjoy that tournament. I love a good pro wrestling tournament and that's kind of grabbed my attention right now. Okay.
00:59:03
Speaker
But who's walking out of there with the briefcases? Like who are you predicting? It's hard for me to pick on the women's side. And as far as the men's side, I think Andrade has a good chance of it. You and I always agree that it's better when a heel has it. I know that Sami Zayn is replacing Braun Strowman in the match.
00:59:29
Speaker
And why is that happening? They did that. There was an angle on Raw. Sammy and Braun are having a thing again. Except now, Braun's supposed to be the babyface and Sammy's the heel. It's flipped from their thing from a couple of years ago.
00:59:46
Speaker
But I guess Sammy beat Braun and took a spot in the match, which I think is smart. I don't like having giant guys and the money in the bank match. It just feels weird to me. It was funny as shit last year. Yeah, I guess. I don't know. I. I.
01:00:08
Speaker
I'm going to be interested to see how over the next three to six months how they handle some of their different talent because they are going to have a bunch of NXT guys that they have to make plans for.
01:00:22
Speaker
They've got to make a plan for ricochet. They've got to make a plan for Alistair Black. They've got to do something with heavy machinery now that they're going to be a tag team over on Smackdown. Maybe Andrade is going to get that push and get that briefcase. I really don't want to see a baby face habit and I really don't want to see an established guy have it. So that makes as much sense as anything.
01:00:44
Speaker
So, like, of the guys on here, Andrade is just the one that makes the most sense to you? To me, I mean, Sammy would be fun, since he's basically shitting on the crowd all the time, but... I don't know. I could see Drew getting it. Just to get him back in the title picture. And again, he falls into that category of, he's a heel, he's kind of a fresh face, so... Yeah, I could see that too.
01:01:08

Did you hear that over the weekend at a WWE house show that Walter fought R-Truth? I did. I saw that and it blew my fucking mind. Only in that company can that happen. I didn't either. I just saw that it happened. And I thought, man, that crowd's lucky. I wish I could have seen that, Matt. There are very few people that I don't want to see Walter wrestle. And I'd love to have seen R-Truth because I bet he stopped for a dance break and I bet Walter chopped his head off. Yeah.

And I heard that Ilya Dragunov made his debut on NXT UK this week. That's exciting. Yeah, fuck. Again, we're in the scenario where it's like there's so much content. I think that what a lot of people are experiencing with WWE and maybe the reason that the ratings are going isn't necessarily to do with the quality of the product or lack of. There's too much. There's so much to watch.
01:02:07
Speaker
And that's before you start looking at anything else. And we've talked about it ad nauseam here, so. I don't know. It's hard for me to keep up with. I only watch clips this week. I've watched bits and pieces from the last few weeks, like when I've been able to sit down, so. I'm excited for the show, though. I'm always excited for a pay-per-view. I may have a bottle of champagne ready in case KO gets another world title run. I'm rooting for you, Derek.

Wrestling Series and Conclusion

I think everybody needs to get out there though, and I watched night one of best of the super juniors. I hadn't, I haven't gotten to watch night two or three yet, but night one, there were a couple really, really good matches, Derek. The first one I watched, Marty Skirrell versus Jonathan Gresham.
01:02:57
Speaker
Well, we just talked about Gresham earlier, so. Yeah, and Gresham, in this match, Marty breaks his fingers. And then, you know, because without his hands, he can't grapple and do all of his mat wrestling. So for the rest of the match, he's wrestling with his legs and doing like tying him up with just his legs. Thought that was awesome. Marty ended up going over. One of the most surprising of the night, though. So you have seen these guys. Remember, we saw the Young Bucks fight the tempura boys at our age.
01:03:27
Speaker
Show and yo, yeah, now they're Rapunkey 3K with Rocky Romero as their manager. Show is ready for a singles push.
01:03:38
Speaker
Is he? They gave him his own entrance music. He didn't come out to the Roppongi music and he was taking on Shingo Takagi who is currently undefeated in New Japan and they let show have such a good strong singles match. He ended up losing but he looked like a million bucks and you could tell this is gonna be a guy that's gonna be really really fun to watch the rest of this tournament. Right.
01:04:05
Speaker
But then for him, yeah, for real, like took over what, a couple of years? It did. I mean, for them to go from like a lower card ROH guy to getting a singles run in the best of the super juniors and getting like an actual competitive good match with an undefeated guy where there's, you know, a lot of false finishes where you didn't know what was going to happen. It really seemed like show might have gotten that first win over him.
01:04:31
Speaker
Yeah. And then, first round, we also got another rematch, Dragon Lee versus Ishimori. They just had their match last week at Wrestling Duntaku. They were already meeting back up in the first round. I think it's awesome that in the tournament, they're actually letting the champion be part of the tournament. But if he wins, he gets to choose his opponent, where if anyone else wins, they're his opponent now.
01:04:58
Speaker
that makes for an interesting story and you don't normally see that but i also think it's important to have the champion work with some of the other guys it gives them the rub right exactly especially with this with ishi mori where he didn't you know the first time he didn't get pinned to lose his title
01:05:15
Speaker
And then in the second one, he got beat. And then in this one, he ends up beating Dragon Lee, so he beats the champ first round. So already sitting Ishimori up as strong, and Dragon Lee's story of this is he's trying to win the tournament so he can give Takahashi this match when he returns.
01:05:36

So you just watched a bunch of good stuff this week. Damn, and there's so much more. Best of the Super Junior's last what, like a couple weeks? So it's just good wrestling every night. And I just, I love a good pro wrestling tournament. I love the, it's a point system. So if you lose, you're not out of the tournament, but you know, you're down points. I love it. Well, speaking of points Garrett, your hockey team's down to nothing right now. Yeah, I checked that and was sad and didn't mention it.

I did watch some stuff for this episode. We'll save it for next week because there's actually another episode of Viceland's The Dark Side of the Ring. It's coming out tonight. I just got caught up with the past two episodes about the Von Erics and Gino Hernandez. Good stuff. I'll talk more about that next week after I watch the newest one that comes out tonight, actually. So. And then next week, we'll see if there's any other stories going into double or nothing.
01:06:33
Speaker
Yeah, there will be and we'll get to review money in the bank. We have shit to talk about. That's not a bad thing. All right, everybody, thanks so much for checking us out this week. Feel free to follow us on our social medias. We're at Wrestle Hangout on Twitter and Facebook. We're at Predetermined Podcast on Instagram. I am at Gartet on social media. Derek is at Halloween helping. Send us that erotic fan fiction on iTunes.

Seriously, if you write some erotic fan fiction of Derek and I, I don't think there's a better gift that anyone could give. I'm starting to wonder if we got in way over our heads with this request. I don't think we did. I think I am ready to read a story where you and I have to talk romantically to each other. God damn it, hit or damn music.
