Vacation Anticipation

00:00:16
Speaker
Yo, how's everybody doing today? I am excited because it is the last show before I go on vacation and I'll leave you guys with Jared. Sorry. That was last last week's title. I would be feeling arry man. Oh, what a beautiful girl like you doing an island all alone. It's a crumb boat.
00:00:41
Speaker
ah That's what I'm going to be doing drinking red stripes tomorrow. Oh, Wednesday actually. I miss red stripes. Really? Nobody misses red stripes. They're gross. I miss things in a bottle that get me fucked up. Maybe that's what I want to say. How you been? Horrible. How you been?
00:01:08
Speaker
I've been good. like i haven't been I haven't gotten that much done, um but you know just thinking about vacation, yeah I I know the feeling. I wish I was trading with you, because generally after a vacation, you're you're good, right?
00:01:27
Speaker
You know, right you you're out of money, you're fuck you're fat, you're like, you're all these things that you're like, oh, this is great. yeah ah But yeah, I mean, my ah return was i I could probably say with a lot of confidence that this was probably one of the shittier returns because like it was a decent break and I was really looking forward to it. And the past couple of weeks since I've been back have just been, the like to my my real job has just been pretty damn stressful, a lot going on.

Post-Vacation Stress

00:02:07
Speaker
and um I guess you know I'm trying to turn it into positive way I guess I'm grateful that it did get that break because that would suck to roll into you know, yeah straight into it with all with all the other crap that's happened, but I Yeah, it's been pretty pretty lame Everyone at work just isn't is on on the ah top of things like you are is that the problem? Oh I'm far from I like I joke and say, I didn't go do a carrot there. You're supposed to. Yeah, no, no, that's not the case. I don't have that big of an ego, right? I always joke and say, I mean, if this is the pinnacle of, of like leadership, you guys are fucked. I mean, that's, that's, that's really, truly how I feel. But, um, that's only because
00:02:57
Speaker
Anyways, many reasons behind that. But yeah, it's just been it's been tough. We have a lot of changes going on. um And i I generally, Dennis, I know you're retired and you don't deal with this crap anymore, but I generally deal with, and I have done a great amount of work on through recovery and a lot of process of of separating. And ah balance is always a key, right? I think that's everybody's main goal in life is to you know find that perfect balance. but Um, for the past, since as I started knife making, I should say, I was very successful at separating that from home and knife making. And I have not been successful doing that here lately. Um, I found myself in this weird spot. I'm curious if anybody else has kind of gone through this. Cause, um, you know, we were, we had a guy like I was super pumped to, to go over there on Saturday and and forge.
00:03:56
Speaker
really looking forward to it. um And then I think, let's just call that we were five hours. issue something like that and I Probably half of it. I was fucking around with with work on the phone. Yeah yeah like just that Yeah, I couldn't get into the I couldn't get into the build like couldn't figure out what I wanted to do and I just my mind wasn't in it and then uh, you know forging is hard for me I was gonna tell I was laughing when I laughed and I was looking at this because Dennis made this
00:04:30
Speaker
really awesome piece and I was watching it watching him do it he's every time I forge with people they're they're always a lot faster than I am right because they're more efficient with uses their heats and um but like watching your spike kind of turn into something was Cool. And then when I left, I'm i'm looking at this butter knife looking.
00:04:54
Speaker
that i to do i just gave him mean There's a knife in there, but yeah, ah that was a little, little disheartening. But I was kind of bummed that, you know, i but we I didn't get to enjoy it. And then the next day, Sunday was, you know, I was going to do some stuff in the shop and um I ended up only getting out there for a couple hours, but I was just stuck, you know, talk, you know, work stuff

Work Intrudes on Knife-Making

00:05:21
Speaker
happening. And so this is the first time I think that work has successfully stolen the escapism that making has provided me for for for years now. um I just couldn't I couldn't break it. So I was like,
00:05:37
Speaker
hand sanding a knife. like i I normally ah vice my knife when I'm hand sanding a handle. sorry sand samming of sample When I'm hand sanding a handle, and I was just holding it by the blade and just kind of like aimlessly rubbing it. I just wasn't in it, Dennis. it was fuck It was strange and then I'd put it down for a second go on the on the social stuff. It's been ah it's been interesting past couple Weeks, I don't like it, but I know it's just part of the process and stick you'll get back to it yeah yeah to show pass ah You made me laugh though. That was probably one of the funniest things I heard today. I was like I just was sitting in my shit. I was Telling Dennis, you know
00:06:24
Speaker
And the text message, I'm like, Yeah, man, I didn't get much done yesterday. I was just kind of sitting in my stuff doing or sitting in my shop doing a bunch of dumb shit. You know, just works got me really fucking bummed. He's like, Oh, you'll be good. It'll turn around. You'll still be doing dumb shit. But what what did I say? yeah Yes, probably still doing dumb shit. But you know, you'll you'll be enjoying it. Yeah, I joined it. Yeah, whatever.
00:06:51
Speaker
whatever Yeah, this one build, this dual buoy build, the one that I'm not videoing, thank God, for because this one's really been kicking my ass. And ah same kind of thing you were saying about like, you know, holding something in hand saying it when you know you don't don't normally do it that way. Yeah, just that I've gone back from guard to spacer to handle to spacer to guard.
00:07:20
Speaker
just kind of aimlessly because I'm trying to get them all perfect at the same time. And that's not normally how I do things. Right. And this one is just taken forever. And it's Yeah. I just, I'm not motivated to keep going on that one. Like, like I'm, I already want to work on this new nickel storm buoy, the one that I forged after the rail spike one. Right. Right. I'm already excited about that one. And I don't really want to work on these other two, but I'm so close. I got to finish them. Yeah. I know. um I know things are fucked up for me because generally if I'm in that kind of spot and I'm in the shop,
00:08:02
Speaker
I have a very good process of looking around of shit that I don't have and that I want. So then I'll end up probably on one of my favorite websites, our buddy Lawrence Lake at Maritime Knife Supply. And I'll start cruising through and trying to find some stuff ah you know just to buy to kind of get a some dopamine release on that.
00:08:26
Speaker
And that didn't that didn't work anyways. But I do recommend for all you people that aren't in a funk and need some knife making supplies, go check out Lawrence Lake at Maritime Knife Supply. They got everything you need for your knife making process from abrasives to machines, heat treating,
00:08:44
Speaker
etch and steel all I mean on and on and on as material tooling. Yeah, and soon to be for some weird reason folder knife material. yeah So ive I talked to him the other day about when what his ETA was and I think he was going to release it he just didn't have all of the drills and reamers right stuff. yeah Right. But it's it's imminent. Yeah.
00:09:10
Speaker
But that's speaking. Speaking of Mr. Lawrence, Lawrence Lake, I have a new abrasive sponsor for the channel. i So changing abrasive sponsors now will be getting all my belts from Norton. Exciting. Oh, yeah. So love Norton to be getting I think my my go to 36 is going to now be the razor stars. Love it. yeah So happy about that and and I already used the Norton belts for sharpening. Yeah, those structure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I really love those. Yeah. So yeah, that's cool. Cool. You get your plays on. Yeah. And that was all facility facilitated by Mr. Lawrence Lake. So I appreciate it. Nice. Yeah. So make sure if you got to re up on some some things, go check out Lawrence and
00:10:05
Speaker
good dude and he'll get it to you super quick too as well. Damn right.

New Sponsor Announcement

00:10:11
Speaker
right So I got a a well and this is one of those like you're always talking about like being insecure or whatever like so I tell you this there's no whatever you're insecure about saying that.
00:10:26
Speaker
No, I do suffer from a from from that affliction. Yeah. but So completed the the folder series last week. Right. OK. Yes. All excited. I love how it turned out. it The action's great. It it looks great. I've handed it to people and they like to some of my friends and they basically did not believe that I made the knife. They thought it was a production there. So I call that a success.
00:10:55
Speaker
Um, but, uh, I'm looking at comments and, uh, um, on the, on the third actually it was in the second folder episode. And I see, I have a comment from Mr. Don, when I'm like, Oh, that's cool.
00:11:14
Speaker
And then you proceed and like, it's one of those like, I don't know Don very well at all. And I don't know. I don't think he knows me that well. Maybe he does. I don't know. But, um, but I was excited, you know, hey I had another well-known knife makers commenting on my video and then I go to read the comment and he's basically telling me how I'm doing it wrong. oh shit So that was a little depressing. Um, so one of the things that, um,
00:11:40
Speaker
that I had done on the, and I probably will do a follow-up video on the compression lock, I was following a design from NAFS, a website,
00:11:53
Speaker
um the and And the website was just talking about different locks and locking mechanisms for folders and they talked about the compression lock and they showed it and I sent him the link and I said, oh, this is the one I followed because he said the the compression he asked me kind of a cryptic message in the comment and I didn't I got the impression he didn't understand it, but now after looking at it the compression lock from Spyderco the real compression lock, and if you go to Spyderco's website and look at their design, they show a picture of it, the compression lock, ah the lock bar actually sits against the stop pin. So that it's hard to describe, but when when it locks up, it kind of pushes the lock bar up instead of, if you're looking, if you're used to a normal liner lock,
00:12:49
Speaker
the lock bar is the only action on the lock bar is, um like it it pushes in. But on this one, it but the way the lock mechanism, it can push the lock bar up, like away from the, anyway, it's hard to explain, but the actual com the reason it's called a compression lock is because the stop pin stops the lock bar from getting pushed up. That's why it's such a strong lock mechanism.
00:13:18
Speaker
But the NAS design that I went through didn't the lock bar didn't sit against the stop. So mine doesn't get in the lock. The lock on this one is super tight. It doesn't rock. It's it's tighter than any lock that I've done on any knife. Right. But um it's not still like a frame like still like a frame lock type Well, it's it's like a it's more like a liner lock where the liner the zone is on spine. Just on the spine, yeah. So I might change the design. It's a little trickier i because I don't know how I would insert the stop pin if it's sitting against anything. All this folder, mumbo jumbo, but yeah. I was happy that Don commented. I was a little depressed that his only comment was telling me how I was doing something wrong.
00:14:04
Speaker
But hey, I from a guy that that happens to a lot, dude, it's it's where the biggest leaps come from sometimes, you know? Yeah. Yeah. But it's part of the part part of the deal. You know, it's it's good, especially when you're just, you know, I mean, don't don't get me wrong, guys, there's a lot of shit gets thrown over it here at Mr. Terrell. But, ah you know, jumping right into something like with fearless but abandon and just getting it done and and whipping something out is, then if you fucking did something differently, it doesn't negate, you know, the whole build, the knife. yeah I liked it. It's great. Yeah. and I mean, that there's there's nothing wrong with the the build of that knife. It was just, you just don't know. make it yeah but This is just a mental thing for me. I'm like, oh, I was excited. in the novel
00:14:54
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, you know the deal, but but I am thinking of keeping this one. i I really like this knife and i I don't have a personal knife of my own. I was just going to say, I i think I support that decision for you because I've kind of always and not like poo poo'd, but i I don't, I never really kind of bought into the hole. Like I don't want any of my own.
00:15:17
Speaker
stuff I think you know everybody has something of their own like a fuck up or something like that but yeah but yeah that there's something to be said you know there's a sense of pride in you even talking about it and it's I think you you should enjoy it I agree it's it's one of the first knives I made that I want to carry around and it's my own so yeah yeah I'm the clip I just put this temporary clip on OK, the other day I didn't have a clip. I was like, no, I think for a fifth bucket. Yeah, it's and I'm going to I was probably I was thinking about doing another video of making a titanium clip for it.
00:15:55
Speaker
got and doing just how how to how I'm going to make that clip and attach it and yeah, cool. I came out great man. stonewash Yeah, You always kind of not not not not shade here. Your stonewash is always kind of been like, you know, cool but not but this one came out like deep and dark and like, I really liked it.
00:16:18
Speaker
Yeah, that's because I made sure to get all of because what I've the issues I've had in the past with ABL is just not. um doing doing enough grinding on it post heat treat, and then getting some decarb on it and then that screws you on this. So this one I knew I had had done a lot of grinding on it. So I wasn't going to get any decarb on it. Gotcha. So yeah, the color from the edge, right? Yeah, yeah, the color from the edge stayed in. And I tumbled it for quite a while. Cool. So yeah, happy with it. Nice.

Forging Experiences

00:16:55
Speaker
But I gotta say, the rail spike um forging, that was more fun than I thought it was gonna be. I thought that was gonna be, not lame, but I thought it was gonna be like, eh, like it was just, but it was really fun. I was, and what was fun about it was, like I was at the point, whatever it was in two hours, not even, yeah hour and a half, that I'm like,
00:17:21
Speaker
fuck i'm um I'm ready to heat treat this thing. like yeah And there's nothing else to do but grind the bevel. And today I spent an hour and ground the bevel, put a swedge on it, and I'm like, I'm done. It's so easy. Yeah. so And I think it looks awesome. ah Yeah, I think yours came out great. i Mine is a butter knife. But ah yeah.
00:17:43
Speaker
I did, yeah. You're bumming me out worse there. because when i When we were getting after it, for that that like we had probably about a good hour, hour and a half. right ah Just when I started finally getting busy, because I still got a After a break, you know, all the hammer technique and stuff that I was working on, I was still doing the baby hits and gripping the shit out of it. And yeah, after I started getting going, I started getting fun again. And then then I had to pull off for a minute. But yeah, it's good. man The anvil is fucking ah nice. Yeah, the the the Holland anvil kicks ass.
00:18:22
Speaker
um i was very happy with the anvil and it's still nice and shiny no dents in it i think each of us had a at least one miss hit whoever hit the anvil and there's no uh yeah that big that big rebound back at your face um but i had someone a student reach out and say, hey, I'm not going to mention the other brand, but hey, this other brand of anvil was cheaper. Why didn't you get that one? And I'm like, well, first of all, I know the guys from Holland Anvil. I love those guys, Hobie and Greg. And you know they're they across from us at Blade Show, opposite us at Blade Show. But it's a really quality anvil. And all their anvils are made from H13, not 4140.
00:19:10
Speaker
So they're super quality anvils all made in the U.S. So real happy about that. We love to support those guys. So. Yeah. And Jared was going to get one right before. so Yeah. No. a To be fair, though, that did this. That's 100 percent. Hey, Dennis, check what I'm looking at. Look what I bought. I did a thing. But ah that's 100 percent true story. But in in all fairness. A couple of years back when I was originally looking for the uh the anvil. I actually had a Holland anvil in my cart. This again, you've you've you've this is that I was not going there with this but now I'm remembering. I literally was talking to Obi and I had the anvil of my cart and then you got the uh the beaver and you're like oh this is a pretty good for the price and so I I didn't pull the trigger which it's all meant to be.
00:20:04
Speaker
But you've been pushing and talking about wanting one and and and recommending them for for a long time. So i'm glad I'm glad that we got one in your shop. Have you ever used a v4 anvil? Yes. Once.
00:20:20
Speaker
i
00:20:23
Speaker
When we got the induction forge. On my hand. When we got the induction forge, that was the when we... Yeah, I can count my hand. Couple of straightening hammer trips and other and some knife pictures, but... Okay. Knife pictures don't count. and Okay. All right. Yeah. No, but you've been... you You've wanted one for a long time, so umm I'm glad you got it. and and It kicked ass. Yeah, it was good. It was good.
00:20:50
Speaker
I didn't understand, though, what you were talking about when I didn't get it when because I was away when the when you got it. Despite all the treachery that's transpired with. And I will stay between us. But ah the ah you had said, like, I should have went bigger. And I didn't quite understand that, like,
00:21:15
Speaker
until I was standing next to it and utilizing it like I see that. The the it the profile of it isn't that much bigger than. Yeah, it doesn't feel that much bigger. No. Then but my one. I didn't get that until we were, you know, getting busy. Yeah. I mean, the face is an inch, maybe an inch and a half wider than my other one. And of course, it's got perfect edges and like, yeah you know, it's in perfect shape. it does It does have the shelf, which is cool. Excuse me, which is cool. Yeah, I i really like that shelf. I was on the fence of.
00:21:50
Speaker
I don't know. like You can't have the shelf and the big standard the horn. Well, the London pattern doesn't come. They don't have it in a shelf. Doesn't come to hybrid. Yeah. Yeah, they don't. They don't make it. Yeah. But you can get the double horn without the shelf. You just can't get the London pattern with the shelf. At least not that I know. Yeah. The shelf is fucking useful. Yeah. I could see all kinds of.
00:22:14
Speaker
things where you can get in and reach and get a different look at something. Yeah, so yeah. But yeah, and then looking at you, you're right. I'm like, Oh, I could have got the 390 instead of the 260. But then it was like, that's just luxury. Yeah, that's just I that's exactly what I thought. But I'm i'm telling you, like, I understood what you were saying when when yeah comparison versus the two, but definitely of an upgrade. So, yeah. I mean, I can lift that thing. I put it on the stand myself. Like I was thinking in my head, it was going to be so much heavier, but it's not that much. Right. So, but we did get to use our two bastards, hammers. It was, ah it was at two bastards hammer. Yeah.
00:23:06
Speaker
ah We were using all we use the diagonal we use the straight P and we use the, but was the other oh yeah we each have the straight P diagonal. So, if you need your, if you need a forging hammer, you got to go check out Frank Amita over at two bastards Texas Smithian supplies, they will get you set up quality hammers.
00:23:29
Speaker
I love it. It's one of my, definitely my go-to hammer for for everything. We were wishing we had, you would have brought the cross peen. And I don't normally say that cause I don't normally use the cross peen, but just for what we were doing and we had to widen that rail spike before we lengthened it, we really needed the cross peen. I agree. Yeah. Cause that thing is, that peen is fat.
00:23:55
Speaker
It is fat, but that's where we got to, you know, that's what I'm saying. You can't have too many beans, right? So you got to get ah all the beans on the on the spectrum, the pain spectrum. there You need your pain to go in every direction. Absolutely. Let that thing get away from you. Be all doing twister pain and stuff. So. a But, you know, like we always say, ain't it grand to have a fat pain in your hand? That's right. So go get yourself one.
00:24:26
Speaker
But that was fun, and when we were done, so I've been working on this, I'm telling the, not you, I'm telling the crab, I've been working on this mosaic.

Future Knife-Making Plans

00:24:36
Speaker
It's got nickel, I'm calling it the nickel storm mosaic, but it has an edge bar. So I've never, I've attempted this before, but I've never done it successfully, made a knife with an edge bar, because once you put an edge bar on the knife, you have to forge it to shape.
00:24:55
Speaker
the blade, certainly the blade side. So and this is a big buoy knife, like it is a yeah, although oh you this will file off, right? Yeah, yeah, it doesn't look dumb, right? So it has to follow the curvature of the blade. So you have to forge in where the blade shape is going to be. You can cut a bit off the spine unless you have a double edge bar, but this is only an edge bar on the spot on the plates. So the this buoy knife has a 10 and a half inch blade. So it was bad. ah You explained in the proportions to me and I was like, that's going to be a big knife, dude. Like, what are you doing? It's going to be a big knife. I did. It's thinned out quite a bit and I did the profile, but um
00:25:41
Speaker
It took a start at like three eights or some shit like that, right? Yeah, it was a little over three eights. But then I took to the service car and by the time I got scale and everything, I actually went a little too far because it's under a quarter now. Oh, shit. I should have left a little more meat on it because it's still got to be heat treated and stuff. But I'd like it to be. Probably around.
00:26:05
Speaker
you know, 200,000, maybe something like that. You know, between a three sixteenths and a quarter for all you non-imperial people um around there. So, but non-perial people yeah as in metric, you metric people, people that don't know imperial.
00:26:28
Speaker
um
00:26:30
Speaker
So yeah, looking forward to that one. And I was i was thinking I was going to take that one ah to the frame handle class I'm doing with Dave Lisch. And then I thought to myself, well, if this one turns out really, really nice, then i don't want I don't want that one to be part of a class. Because as soon as something is part of a class, you can't submit it for master smith judging you can't submit it i would feel weird submitting something that i went through a class with to say a blade show as like a blade because you got helped with it we got yeah you got credit you gotta give grit so uh i think i'm gonna take a kumai um a buoy instead. And then the nice part about that is I have a big enough piece of kumai that I can cut the blade out and have a whole section for the handle. And I can just cut out the frame ah for the handle because it's kumai, right? but So I thought that'd be a little easier than forging something. But I will be. I will be. My plan is to do a frame handle on the nickel storm buoy as well. But we'll see how it goes.
00:27:46
Speaker
That was cool seeing the pattern in it even at that big at the thickness that it was Yeah, it's gonna be awesome. Yeah, I hope so I hope so But You're not for a lot of classes. I just got another another student scheduled a double class in in April. So I got like, three classes in March, two classes in April. And I got three unscheduled classes that were gift certificates over the holidays. So now I'm worried about all these classes I got to do and then I got to start thinking about blade show. So we'll see how things go. And then if you're taking classes with him, you got to
00:28:36
Speaker
Get with me first so that we can fit it in a and the my good Can't be having three weeks with no railroad spike forging now Yeah, so and ah The garden handle one two of those are garden handle classes and then And then two of them are Damascus classes and one's just an intro class. but So still got to perfect this guard and handle curriculum to get ready for the Midwest Knifemakers Guild hammer-in in August. and So it'll be the same curriculum there, just an accelerated version at that hammer-in. Nice. yeah So I got two um two opportunities to refine that. so
00:29:32
Speaker
Yeah, plus we had to give these on a couple things I got. That's right. Yeah, they're um im almost hand sanded one of them. Good. Yeah, this is ah when I was a knife maker back in the beginning of January. Is that the the chef you're going to put a bolster on? Yeah. All right. Yeah, I got two of them actually.
00:29:54
Speaker
Well, why don't you get them done in the next week while I'm not here and we can do it when I get back. ah yeah um'm I'm going to accept that. i got I do have to. I got to fly. I got to travel for work again tomorrow, I believe. Tomorrow, the next day, I leave for a few days back up to Washington, which I don't think I talked about it, though, but.

You ever heard of the voodoo donuts? Yes. Have you ever had one? I've never had one. Didn't they have one in San Francisco or is it only Seattle? That's that's all Pacific Northwest. I from what I understand. That's all I've ever. I mean, I remember people bringing them that street in Seattle. Yeah. Yeah. There's one in Seattle, right? Yeah. Yeah. That's the one in Seattle. 00:30:50
Speaker
What the fuck is this? I'm trying to like the ah the map maple bacon. I was going to say it had to be the bacon one. Yeah. So it was like winning. It was either that or the cocking balls. Like I couldn't know what. Apparently, apparently, guys, you look at the menu, there's like all these, you know, like a voodoo and a standard fair and there's the the maple. thing There's and I'm like, so what's the most famous one? they're like It's a toss up between the cocking balls and the maple bacon. Like what's the Oh, OK, that one. A ah honey stick with two little damn it's I Google it man. It's a it's a chocolate so but Now you got my mind racing Well, I have to maybe there'd be one around when I go up there, I And it was a lady that was a younger, younger lady talking to me. I'm like, so what's the most kind of just like odds toss up the maple and the, and the cocking balls. I'm like, come again.
00:32:03
Speaker
So, but the, uh, but the, it was, fuck, it was good. I thought it was, I was so geared up for it too, because we have one here in the Bay area called psycho donuts. It's like in a Cupertino. I mean, you get that either. Yeah, you can get like the Captain Crunch and like they're just super over the top. and And I remember trying it one time with my family. This is like the kids were super young, but it was cool like to see them, but you know, don't have Captain Crunch and all kinds of shit all over him. They were horrible, though. And I was fully geared up for this thing to be really bad, but it was actually really good. So.
00:32:37
Speaker
I and know a bunch of people that have had the the bacon one. And yeah, I'm a fan of like the chocolate covered bacon ones. i'd like that I think I'll be doing this this whole community a disservice if I can come back with a review of the cock and balls. so
00:32:55
Speaker
We want to know, and I may have to get, yeah, i a full review coming next week, guys. No pun intended.
00:33:04
Speaker
We want to hear about the green filling. Yeah, that's the same. Okay, we're degrading now. Good deal. But yeah, so I got an eye after travel this week. So, and then we have some time until, ooh,
00:33:23
Speaker

Can Jared pass the naturalization test?

Trivia Quizzes

00:34:21
Speaker
oh dude ah So we're gonna ask Jared some random questions from the naturalization test. And we're gonna test Jared's knowledge.
00:34:35
Speaker
All right. Pick a B or C. First of all, Hey, Hey, I thought they just got multiple words to the answer. I'm like, what the, what principles of American democracy be? No, I haven't asked you the question. Uh, what do we call the first 10 amendments to the constitution?
00:35:05
Speaker
Near, and near, near. What did we call the first 10 amendments to the Constitution? There's a name for that. There's a name for it? Yeah. I can't Google fast enough. No Googling. I'm watching you. No, you're not.
00:35:23
Speaker
The Bill of Rights. Oh, yeah, I knew that. Oh, yeah. Okay, you knew that. ah How many amendments does the Constitution have?
00:35:33
Speaker
I don't know. 1325. 22. 27. Okay, we're gonna go on to I'm only gonna ask you like three more. Pick a number between one and 100. 22. 22. 22. We elected us representatives for how many years?
00:35:59
Speaker
You're batting zero so far, by the way. I'm just keeping score. That's two year terms. Are you asking me or are you telling me? I keep telling you. Yes, you get it. Yeah. Okay. One out of three. Okay. Pick another number. One. One one in 100.
00:36:19
Speaker
31. 31. ah If both the president and the vice president can no longer serve who becomes president. This is easy speaker. Yeah. Yeah. That's easy. All right. Last one. You, you're 50 50 right now. This is, this is 73 is if Jared is going to get deported or not. He to get this question right. That is so loaded for so many reasons.
00:36:50
Speaker
I already told everybody when I was in Puerto Rico that Trump deported me to the wrong country. ah No, i'm gonna i'm gonna I'm gonna get a good one here. I'm not letting you pick.
00:37:03
Speaker
i
00:37:06
Speaker
Who wrote the Declaration of Independence? Thomas Jefferson. Wow. Okay. You get to stay in the country, Thomas Jefferson.
00:37:18
Speaker
Get out of here. That's really the questions you got to ask the Bill of Rights that actually irritates me because that's you know that but Yeah, when was the Declaration of Independence adopted? 1774 no 64 no there's a lot of fucking sevens in there all around it. I the fucking the holsters with it all on it too the holsters but yeah so yeah this is what i'm gonna be do as soon as i get back i'm gonna spend a whole day going through this uh test because i got it i only need 60 percent so i think i'll be yeah it's it's much easier to be born here dude just just saying
00:38:11
Speaker
I don't know that I can answer these questions about Canada. So I shouldn't laugh at you. I'm not there. you Don't know your history. No, yeah that's not anything. I should know. ah But yeah, you we know enough. But that's that's probably would stump a lot of a lot of fucking people because I would have paid attention in school and watching it. You know what I mean? Yeah. The ones with the numbers and the dates and those are going to be the hard ones. But there's a lot of easy ones that I didn't ask you. So you only need to get six out of 10. So how hard could it be? Out of all those 100, they're only going to ask you 10? Yeah.
00:38:56
Speaker
yeah Well, congratulations on attempting to be legal. yeah How have you been here this long? I'm on a green card.
00:39:06
Speaker
See, I know this is why stereotypes aren't cool. There's a good one between like, but there's there's a good one that I know that's one of my favorite memes is a picture of of Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart. And it says, you know, stereotypes are bad because only one of them is a convicted felon. But I guarantee you, you stand me and you up in a room.
00:39:32
Speaker
I think nobody's gonna think that you're the one with the green card. Yep, it's true. That's funny as hell. oh What happens if you fail? I don't know, I guess you gotta do it again. it's not It's not life's on the line? No, I'm pretty sure that you can come back a month later and do it again or whatever it is. I don't plan on failing, but you never know.
00:40:00
Speaker
I'll probably get six. so I'll probably get exactly six out of 10. Yeah, bro. There's nothing. There's nothing worse for me. I'm surprised I handle that so well. There's nothing worse to me than tests. Number one, like I used to stress out because I have never got to renew my DMV, my license through the mail. Not ever. Not one time in West. tired Yeah, I always every single time since I first got my license at 16. I have always had to go in and do the test. I didn't even know that's a thing. Yeah, it's a thing. What do they randomly do it? I don't know. I don't know why. My wife does it. every All people, so many people, oh, you just do it online and mail it in. I used to stress out on that. like
00:40:53
Speaker
ah Like just ridiculous amount of unnecessary like I know it all yeah

Upcoming Visit Plans

00:41:01
Speaker
but So anyways, I'm usually pretty good at cramming I remember when I did my I was really stressed when I did my scuba instructor exam because that's like a binder this thick and you have to like know it all and I got like 100% on that exam because I was like so stressed about it. But I'm i'm a good crammer studying last minute. So I retain things really well for a very short period. Yeah, my retention is well it's, it's the recall that I suffer as part of the, you know, divergence, the neurodivergency stuff. You know, the answer is just, yeah, you're not gonna be able to recall it when you need it. So yeah, but yeah, that was a good one. Fucker.
00:41:48
Speaker
ah Yeah, but right after that, the day after that, Mr. Koi Baker is going to visit and I'm excited about that. We're going to do some fun stuff. I think we're going to cook some steaks and have a good time. Yeah, we're going to soak in the hot tub and do all kinds of non-knife making stuff as well. oh <unk>s That's private man can't have a fucking cocking balls episode with you and koi in the tub Get out of here. Oh, there's gonna be content on that ge but He's gonna gonna post it on the Baker Ford channel how koi's working he's doing a work trip Now I'm looking forward to seeing him and I that This is this is cool. I remember
00:42:38
Speaker
It was a few months back anyways, but I was just like, you know, chat with him. I'm like, man, it sucks. I'm not going to get to hang out or see if for because he doesn't go to Makers Camp or anything like that. So it's like once a year we get to hang out. It's like I may be coming by soon, so I'm stoked. Yeah, it should be fun. and We're doing a fun project, so it'll I think that'll be good.
00:43:02
Speaker
You guys will see lots of media on it for sure. But if you want to get up close and personal on some of his amazing stuff, you got to go over to Baker Fortune Tool. Check out all the amazing Damascus. They've got the new drop this week is the go my stainless stainless. Yeah, it's a stainless go my and looks amazing.

Use the app. Get to get early access. um to what they got out there. the I'm reading the note here, stainless gold mice here, reviving the classic with a modern twist ah with an ADC-RV2 core, nickel shims and stainless 410 cladding. So go get it, make something cool with it. Let's see it. And when you're ready to etch that, use yourself some of that Gator piss and make it look pretty.
00:44:04
Speaker
When you load up that cart, you got to use the discount code TTT10. That's TTT10. Get some. Yes. And I bet you, while you finished up that railroad spike, I'm pretty sure that you lathered that stuff up with ah that beautiful, excellent premium wax from Travis Haines over at Pelican Paste. For all your waxy waxers and needs there, you got to go check it out. They got hard wax, soft wax, Pelican oil, hand salt, the gritty soap. They got it all. And when you do check out, make sure you use the discount code again, TTT10. That's TTT10 for 10%.
00:44:43
Speaker
Yes. Yes, I did indeed put some of that on that new rail spike knife. um And speaking of that rail spike knife, there will be a video on that one. And I think I'm going to be giving that knife away to one of my Patreon members. So stay tuned, see how you can win that knife.
00:45:05
Speaker
Yes. The plan was for me to finish mine and you can have a good one and a shitty one. You decide. yeah so it I'm sure it's going to be beautiful. I just don't know what month it's going to be beautiful. in do shame mother It might be July. I don't know when. when i may I promise this. I am going to give that knife away to who? I don't know, but hopefully we get it.
00:45:34
Speaker
Sometime in 25. That's right. Get on it. you don't have to Do you have more foraging to do on it? Or are you just going to grind the rest? I was thinking about it. I might try to get a little bit more width on it. It's kind of narrow for anything other than like ah but like a hunter. but You got any steel? Oh, yeah. my good no and I I don't remember what it looks like.
00:45:59
Speaker
It's getting there. I i miss the and missed the bus there on on drawing that out. That's what that cross beam would have come in a lot. It was hard to hold that. You know you kind of had to prop it. To be honest with you, the entire time I have ever planned anything for that road, that spike,
00:46:20
Speaker
I was envisioning the press the entire time. And then I ah do appreciate it. I do appreciate it because we did not use the press at all.
00:46:31
Speaker
and But for good reason. Yeah. because And and I should mention where we got these. So we got these rail spikes um from Jeff Dauterman, who um was given the way in at first and Jared's going to correct me. And it's like I was kind of poo poo because I thought it was just a regular rail spike. But these are actually 1080 steel um originally made from Atlas knife and tool. And it says It's got a Atlas knife and tool on the top of the rail spike. So these are knife steel rail spikes ten yeah yeah made specifically for knife makers. So you can make a rail spike and make it a real one a real knife out of it. So thanks to Jeff over at Warrior's Way for handing those things out at Maker's Camp and Atlas knife and tool for putting those together.
00:47:29
Speaker
That's right. So he he gave me, I got a couple there. And then I also, uh, if you're interested in, you weren't at makers camp and didn't get to hang out with Jeff, um, there They were, I'm almost positive there's still some available, but Lawrence is selling them at Maritime nice as well, because I picked up a couple in the last order I got. I think they're like, I don't know, five, 10 bucks a piece or something like that. Super super affordable. So if you're looking for a cool project, they are available. So go check out Maritime, see if there's... anymore, which I'm pretty positive that there is. Yeah, I i might pick some up my next order because they were fun and I might just throw a couple on the table at blade show. Yeah. Yeah. They were a fun little project. Yeah, it was pretty cool. It's a great little, you know, practice your foraging project kind of thing. And don't use a press got to do by hand. Yes.
00:48:29
Speaker
ah All right. Should we do make your spotlight? Yeah. All right, go, go. You want me to? Yeah, I want you to go go. No, you first. I said I can go. I'm going to find out who I picked. You forgot.
00:48:49
Speaker
Yeah, so I got a Dan Hubs from 66 Mountain Knives. He's got 576 followers.
00:49:01
Speaker
um And he should have a lot more. I've maximized the wrong screen. um Dude makes beautiful Damascus. And recently, he's been putting out a bunch of like you know like how-to.
00:49:17
Speaker
Hack tippy, not tippy, but tips type of ah um videos and showing off all those tools and shit like that. And I believe I'm pretty positive here that I first came across him from. Morecos.
00:49:36
Speaker
Patreon Discord chat. And he's posting there quite a bit. and then But I was checking out his his work here not that long ago, and a lot of cool stuff. He's got the wrong hands-handed machine, but um he's on the right path.
00:49:56
Speaker
But yeah, dude, if you guys aren't following Dan, go check him out. That's a 66 mountain knives, all one word, no underscores, no nothing on Instagram. And it looks like a thread account too. But go check him out, give him a follow, and tell him the boys at triple T sent you. Yeah, really cool stuff. Yeah, I love that feather, the recent one he's got up there. That's a good one. Yeah. Cool.
00:50:24
Speaker
um I have got um Someone I've been interacting with recently Justin Wilson and JW blade works Justin's actually a local guy here in California. I love that he's over in Millbrae, which is just across the Bay from us and he and I've been talking about getting together maybe sometime this month later this month and ah You know just hanging out don't get to hang out with enough local guys. So I Um, so go check out, um, Justin at JW b blade works. He does a lot of, um, integral hunters. He is a hunter, big duck hunter. Um, he's got a lot of, uh, hormone. Um, Hunter blades does a lot of those and they look amazing. And he's got a bunch of their keyholes as well. Just really nice clean stuff. And hormones are spectacular. Really good stuff. Yeah. Like this, this is my jam here. I was looking at.
00:51:22
Speaker
when we were talking about it earlier. Just really, really cool stuff. You know what? You know, I'm a little jealous here, too, because you know what he gets to experience being on that side of the bay? What cool? Yes, it never gets fucking hot there. Yeah, it's about a smooth 30 degrees difference in the summer across over in his area. So he gets to light that Forge up with ah with reckless abandon as opposed to That's installing. That's true, especially Milbright. They've got a pretty pretty perfect weather there. Yeah, it's it's like what it is right now, you know, just Yeah, 60 degrees. Yeah So cool. Yeah What does he got? He's got two thousand five hundred and twenty seven dollars. That's right. That's right there leather to yeah Go check him out. Yep
00:52:17
Speaker
All right, man. I do have one more. We got a couple more things here. um the
00:52:29
Speaker
i mean like umm but I'm being attacked. You're being attacked. I'm being attacked, dude. From what? The dog? What? No. My rats.
00:52:43
Speaker
Those are rats, those are fucking badgers. Fucking cross between a possum and i'm fucking and a rat, dude.
00:52:55
Speaker
yeah Jared sends me a picture of a trap, one of those like little plastic like box traps you sit on the ground. i don't They're pretty common here. And there's a rat, hanging out like the whole rat didn't even fit in it. And it looks like, I don't know, like a like a possum looks like a possum hanging out the side of that thing. I could not believe it. It's disgusting. It's disgusting. It's it's like I don't even it's almost not it's almost uncomfortable like sharing it because you know, but uh
00:53:33
Speaker
I told you last week what I thought was a mouse jumped out from at me and I thought I was calling it Remy from from the ah Disney movie because it had a chef's hat on and but I remember it like hit in the ground and looking at it and it was like gray and and like I was like that's a that's either a big mouse or I didn't catch the the tail or anything but so we at the The pest control people came like three days later, and I met the dude out front, which I never do. I never talked to him. I don't think I've ever seen the guys, right? I went outside. I was like, I got a problem. like We got mice, rat. I don't know, dude. But we I got a problem. And he's like, well, you know, that's enough. i Don't give a shit. Here. you know Get rid of these things. And I'm like, give me, trap me all up outside. And apparently, they can't put like trap traps outside.
00:54:28
Speaker
They got to put the the the tunnel things, the boxes, yeah eat it and they go and die somewhere else or inside your house or something stupid. But he did put a couple in and then Lynn and I ah did some Amazon things. But I think that one is for a mouse is why that big ass fucking cat couldn't get in there. He just got his head in there and got stuck.
00:54:53
Speaker
And then I caught another one the other day when I came home from ah on Saturday. A rat? Another one, yeah, in the in the shop this time. So is there any construction in your neighborhood? No, but what I am is, so I'm about as far out of the Bay Area as you can possibly be. There's like four streets.
00:55:15
Speaker
think I think it is. It's three or four streets, and i have we have all agricultural fields um out in the back there. So it's not uncommon to get critters and shit like that, because when they're messing with the fields and doing shit, there they're close.
00:55:34
Speaker
but um Yeah, I don't know what's up. I've never seen him before. this is This is the first time we've been here for six, seven years now. In my first experience ever, oh, that's not true. Because in Brentwood in 2007 or six when we bought our first house, we had mice in there. That's when I was using the little glue traps to catch them. I don't know if you've ever done that. Oh, yeah. Bro, that's brutal.
00:56:03
Speaker
They squeal. That is fucking brutal, man. ah I'm not. I'm not opposed to doing what you got to do to, you know, you know, I'm not the bleeding heart of the world, but bro, that that was that was brutal. i like This dude had like a little pinky caught like the rest of him, like 98 percent of him was free. He was stuck on this trap. And I'm like, what are you doing there? You throw him in the trash or, you know,
00:56:28
Speaker
ah I guess I'm the a puss because I felt horrible dude. They were just like But there were there was a why there was this is going on Probably eight years ago though. I don't know what happened in this neighborhood because everyone started getting mice and In the space of two months. I had 12 mice I found in the garage in those little glue traps so I had to dispatch of 12 of them and And there was like construction or whatever, something was driving these mice population go through the roof and into everybody's homes. Yeah, I don't know. These are these things are fucking rats though. It's crazy. Yeah, that's when I saw was in New York. And then I expected to see one there.
00:57:13
Speaker
but just that's tail is it? god it suck Yeah. Now and I'm in the shop too on and I'm, you know, mindlessly hand sanding this fricking handle and I'm like, every sound on my head's all the swivel. I don't want to reach behind anything. I'm like, oh, you big puss.
00:57:34
Speaker
oh So. What you need is a knife to dispatch these things that you can grip on very well. Thank you. That's a great suggestion. Where would I get this, Dennis? That was a terrible segue, but we got to talk about grip tech from Rock Solid Scales.
00:57:56
Speaker
Uh, grip tech revolution, a rubber and resin composite. Um, it's got little, well, I always think of them as little beads, but I guess it comes in different flavors, whatever don't, don't taste them, but you know what I mean? Um, and, uh, it's really grippy, whether it's wet.
00:58:15
Speaker
um Whether you're you're cleaning animals and it's blood or whatever it is, if you need a handle that's really grippy, you got to get yourself some grip tech. ah It's really easy to finish. You can just sand it to 220 or even 400 if you feel energetic and then sand blast it and that really brings that gritty texture to the surface. So it comes in all kinds of cool colors and combinations even glow in the dark. So go get yourself some grip tech and you can use the discount code triple t 10 t t t 10. Yes, t t t 10. He's supposed to be
00:58:55
Speaker
Yeah, Matt's out there hustling too, getting a always getting new colors, new new flavors like you're saying. So yeah, happy to have him on board and go go grab you a set of some grip tech and anything else he's got. Just go see Matt and buy some shit. Yeah. Do it. Do it. Yeah. And then for all you other six people listening. Um, we've had like a pretty big jump in, uh, in our followership on, uh, Instagram past couple of weeks, like they've been rolling in. It was kind of stagnant for a little while, but, uh, so we appreciate all the support, um, for all you people out there wasting your Tuesday mornings listening to us jabber about a bunch of crap and, uh, Yeah, so again, if you got any feedback, you want to tell me that I'm this or that, non-American, but pass the test, don't belong here, get out of here. Tell Dennis, you know get out of here. yeah Tell us how we're doing. Give us some feedback. Tell the story, whatever. We'd love to hear from you. And we do appreciate the support. And most important announcement of it all, fuck, I was trying to get this beefed for one hour for the first time. We just hit it, one one hour on the fucking nuts. ah
01:00:10
Speaker
Really really really big news. I don't even know how I'm gonna tell you this but Dennis will not be here next week You're gonna finally have the best show in the history of all what are we at? 53 is gonna be the shit
01:00:35
Speaker
53 shopping spree. I don't know. I wish it was something another number. But ah yeah, ah sorry buddy. we We will miss you. But um we'll get somebody really cool in here. I will be having plenty of fun in Jamaica. Don't worry. Yeah, I'm sure you will. It was it was kind of shitty. um It was interesting to listen back and not you know hear you but you you know You'll be fine. Enjoy yourself, buddy. Be safe. Safe travels. Enjoy yourself. All that good stuff. We'll miss you while you're gone. And we look forward to having you back in fifty five episode 54. No, we're just going to keep you out for a while. So you're going to tell us who the guest ah guest host is going to be? ah No. um Oh, no. You're not going to tell me. Nope.
01:01:28
Speaker
I'm not you'll see next week. All right here. You will not see anything even though our video our podcast post his video somehow, which is a trip. ah Yeah, yeah you've you've told me that I don't understand what and it's only on Apple. You know, there's another another one that's that it comes up on but yeah, I've had a a handful. of Oh, we got another follower. Look at that. We have. um Oh, who I can't remember who it was. I think it was b Brian. Brian Hunt was saying, you know, that he had noticed that on whatever streaming um he uses that that was happening. And I never even paid attention to it. But then the other day I was randomly checking when I was doing the Instagram post. I looked and it said video. I'm like, hmm.
01:02:15
Speaker
I don't get it, because we don't record video, we never have. And there's no option, at least that I know of, it's Ncaster that says it's video, but I don't know. Because ah at Spotify, it doesn't say it comes up as video. And we only publish to Spotify, Apple and YouTube. So it does come up as video on YouTube, but I thought they all came up as video on YouTube, so.
01:02:43
Speaker
and I don't know. Anyways, I know was total sidetracked there. um Yeah. Bon voyage. Bring us back a red stripe and, you know, some some weed or something. You know, I think I'm going to bring the ah the Jared shirt and take some pictures. Oh, I would love that. not Bring the fat pain, too. that' be great Yeah, right. All right. We're out of here.
01:03:09
Speaker
um but
01:03:25
Speaker
And that's a wrap.
