Introduction and Hosts' Mood

00:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello, hello, Wolves fans. Welcome in. Happy Tuesday, first of all. This is, it's a brilliant time to be a Wolves fan at this moment. ah My name's Nathan. I'm your host for today. And I'm joined by, um well, we're back to the original trio, really. I'm joined by Chris. Chris, how are we doing?
00:00:26
Chris
Hello, living the dream, living the dream after a Derby day when i'm I've already given my two cents worth, but still feeling good, feeling good.
00:00:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Good stuff. And I'm of course also joined by Will. Will, how are we keeping?
00:00:39
Will
Yeah, much of the same, much of the same. As you said, it's a good time to be a Wars fan at this current moment.

Transfer Window Excitement

00:00:46
Will
um But, you know, as we're recording this, the windows still open and and, you know, things can still happen. But I'm just, you know, I'm riding the wave. we're We're, you know, in relatively good spirits right now, aren't we?
00:00:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's it. And it's amazing what one result can do to the mood of over 200,000 people. it's it's It's a mental thing, isn't it? um I guess we've we've we've heard on yeah that not just that that's just ah crazy numbers we're getting.
00:01:09
Chris
And that's just the listenership. I said, and that's just the listenership.

Match Analysis and Player Highlights

00:01:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
um but we we We were able to hear Chris's thoughts on the game in the previous episode um that came out yesterday. So I'm going to come to you first, Will, and I just want your overall feeling on the match.
00:01:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
um yeah Give me a little rundown on your thoughts throughout.
00:01:35
Will
Yeah, I mean, so to start off with, um being the only one of us here from Birmingham, you know, this this this this always means a little bit more um in terms of I'm surrounded by Villa fans, you know, on my road, when I get up and leave the house, so all my friends are Villa.
00:01:59
Will
um So yeah, I really wasn't looking forward to it, but all Villa fans will tell you that, you know, they never seem to have a good game against us.
00:02:13
Will
And, I mean, that was the case. I thought, in all fairness to Vitor, I think he got it spot on tactically. I think our shape was fantastic. And, um you know, I liked the way that we let their centre-hearts have the ball and we we kept to our shape and and we were very hard to break down. um I am aware that it wasn't a full full strength Villa team, but it was still a team that, you know, given the way this season's gone.
00:02:42
Will
You would like to think, even though we were at home, that they were favourites. But, you know, as Chris has already mentioned, and as I'm sure many people have mentioned, um sometimes it's the ones who you least expect that can surprise you. And, and um you know, we're in dire dire need of more than anything um from this performance. We're in dire need of determination and and you know, um that grit that we've been lacking. And that came in the way of Pablo Serabia and Jean-Ricna Bellegarde, who I never wanted to see in a Wolves top ever again, Bellegarde, just because I don't know what he brings to the party. But in in this formation, in in the role that he had to play specifically,
00:03:32
Will
um on Saturday, as as I mentioned, keeping that shape and being disciplined and putting in the hard yards. I thought he was excellent. He looked he looked like a new man, like a new player, um and you know he got a goal to cap it off. But I think even without that goal, he was You know, he did everything right.
00:03:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
class yeah
00:03:54
Will
So, yeah, just just, you know, pleasantly surprised. um But at the same time, when I say surprised, we we we deserved it. We deserved to ah win, a you know, a nice professional 2-0 victory.
00:04:09
Will
And I think, you know, yeah, it just makes for a pleasant change.

Team Performance and Player Impact

00:04:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I thought the first 45 minutes is the best we've played in in a long, long, long time.
00:04:20
Will
Hmm.
00:04:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah just It was so refreshing to to see that first 45 and then we obviously know what's going to happen in the second half. We know that they were going to have a ah telling off at half time, the form that they're in this season, obviously playing in the Champions League and all the rest of it.
00:04:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
But second half we put up a gritty performance and one that I mean, we've been mentioning it so much as the basics that we've just not been doing defensively and the mentality that we've just not had.
00:04:36
Will
Hmm.
00:04:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
But Totti Gomez coming back in, I thought made a made a difference um and Aga continuing in his in his brilliant form. I think there's just, you can pick out a few performances from around the pitch that I thought were really standout.
00:05:00
Will
Yeah.
00:05:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Chris, I know you're obviously a big fan of Belegard's performance, and but
00:05:07
Chris
and
00:05:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, and yeah, same as you will.
00:05:08
Chris
Thank you.
00:05:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've ah been um not the most positive, let's say, with regards to Belegard's performances this season. And um another one that I've not necessarily been the most complimentary towards would be ah Pablo Sarabia.
00:05:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
But Chris, you've always backed his corner. I thought he was very good.
00:05:30
Chris
Yeah, I mean, I've already, yeah, not to echo myself from yesterday, but I thought you had a great game. um I still believe that, you know, we would see the best of him, arguably a bit like Belegard, how we've not, I think it's showing that we've never seen the best of Belegard because he's always being played out of position.
00:05:49
Chris
and And I think there's an argument for that with Sarabia personally, because I feel like he's best in that floating number 10 role where he can sit in the hole and and and provide through balls to you know the the runners in front of him, stuff like that, which I know he he still worked kind of on the wing for the most part, but he did drift inside and um because because they have that little kind of box, they seem to allow him to shift around.
00:06:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:06:10
Chris
ah But he definitely, I mentioned as well that I feel like having a runner with the speed of Gedge always on the shoulder of someone charging forward allowed both Sarabia and Belegard to play very direct through balls.
00:06:24
Chris
You know, we saw it several times in the game where Gedge is making sprinting runs and it created ah more than one opportunity. Gedge should have had arguably two or three goals by halftime, if any more of them had come off, but that that's just how I saw it anyway.
00:06:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think um I agree with you completely. Sarabi is so much better when he's got play developing going past him.
00:06:43
Chris
Mm hmm.
00:06:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think with his position and his best position would probably be clashing against Kounya who has been our best player this season or and one of the best.
00:06:52
Chris
Hmm.
00:06:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And Kounya didn't have his his best game. I know we were saying it before, came on air and you've mentioned it Chris as well. But like he for the 90 minutes was wasn't our best forward. But I think that
00:07:06
Chris
No.
00:07:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sarabia, we've maybe not seen the best of him because he fills up the space that Cunha wants to fill up. Cunha's not always making those runs in behind. He wants to pick it up and run at defenses and play on the half turn. And Sarabia's good in that kind of pocket space as well. So when they both play, sometimes all you've got is Strandlassen up top. Well, that's been the case a few times a season. And Strandlassen isn't always the one to be running in behind. He sometimes comes short. So that's like an overcrowded area.
00:07:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um, but you're dead right. I think when, as soon as you've got Guedes running beyond, and I think at times as well, Belegard's ability to make those runs in midfield, as someone who's played on the wing, he adds a different element to that midfield.
00:07:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's almost like we were able to, instead of being those two pivots being quite static, when I think Jal Gomes and Andre play, they don't rotate as much, but Belegard gave a bit of depth.
00:08:00
Chris
Yeah, he was more of a box-to-box almost, a little bit, definitely more dirt driving.
00:08:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um, I just, yeah.
00:08:05
Chris
And for a lot of the game it seemed like Andre was sitting the deeper of the two and Bellegarde was the one who was allowed to, I don't know if that was intentional or just the way it was, but it seemed quite intentional. Andre was definitely more of the holder and Bellegarde was the one allowed to roam back and forth, back and forth.
00:08:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, a hundred percent. But it was, I think there was a few pleasant surprises in that game for me, at least given my, my thoughts on, yes, Arabian bella guard, especially, but, um, I thought Gedz again made, made some brilliant runs and it's a shame that he didn't get a goal.
00:08:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Think that that first 45, we should have been well clear. Shouldn't we will like it should have been, should have been three or in my opinion.
00:08:38
Chris
Yeah.
00:08:40
Will
Yeah. Yeah, there was the Cunha one-on-one. um Guedes missed the rebound off that and there's ah another chance where Belgrade played Guedes through and I wouldn't say he should have scored but you know we we had plenty of good chances. um The only thing that worried me at that point was as you as you said the first half excellent and at half time I saw just bill below me I saw them
00:09:11
Will
own honor warming up and getting stripped ready to come on um for Villa and I thought of Andre in Bellegarde and beldegar and
00:09:13
Chris
Hmm.
00:09:22
Will
own honours, physicality and athleticism compared to theirs. And just the general fact that you knew surely Villa had to come out and come at you um that that second half. And, you know, testament to the so the the guys, that that didn't really happen. I mean, Villa were better and had more of the ball in that and that um you know 45 minutes but apart from the goal they had ruled out for offside which i think was rightly so but offside as well if it's not offside it's obstruction you just it's like there's like basketball just screening a player you know um other way round is given the same um point is apart from that one chance i don't i was never particularly
00:10:07
Will
worried or, you know, ah ah team I I don't know, I just thought even at 1-0, just the way the the second half panned out, I was weirdly confident in the fact that I felt like we had enough control in our shape and we were that hard to fake down, that I don't really think Villaver ever looked like scoring as such.
00:10:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:10:31
Will
maybe Maybe that's, you know, maybe I'm getting carried away, it's just how I saw it.
00:10:35
Chris
Yeah, I mean, they were always going to come second half. And that's why we, I was worried going into halftime when we hadn't scored the second or third goal that we really needed.
00:10:42
Will
Yeah.
00:10:44
Chris
Cause you just knew the way the season's gone. You're thinking, here we go. The second half could all fall apart.
00:10:46
Will
yeah
00:10:48
Chris
Cause we know that Emery's not ah afraid to make changes and he made four. in one go to really try and shake things up and even, even whether improving tactically or not, even just four sets of fresh legs coming on, you know, against you has a massive

Player Strengths and Improvement Areas

00:11:01
Chris
impact. But we'd like to say we didn't look shell shocked at any point. I know they had a couple of chances, but for the most part, it looked pretty solid. And as I mentioned yesterday, um I kind of predicted that Aga would move to the middle when Tati came back.
00:11:15
Will
Yeah.
00:11:16
Chris
and i said it would be doc over bueno and lo and behold it was but it kind of worked um and i think aga in the middle is was solid yeah
00:11:23
Will
Can I just say something about Avidu? Because I've watched him a few times now and I don't even want to, I think it's great. I think it's a definite not upgrade on anything anything we had so far.
00:11:35
Will
But sometimes it's like he doesn't know his own strength. Like I've seen the guy over hit the most simple of passes. There was one yesterday to to Doherty, I think it was, and it was a simple ball and he just seems to wake it, like for no reason, under no pressure. But then it's strange because It'll win the ball, you know, out muscle his manta and then play a ah ball out to one of his other centre-halves calm as you like in the next minute.
00:12:03
Will
It's just a weird little flaw that I think just seems to to to crop up sporadically, but well yeah.
00:12:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
I love it.
00:12:10
Chris
When you're the Hulk, it's really hard to control your own strength as well. I mean, you know it's it's he's having to control himself. Think about having to control your own strength 24 hours a day. I know it's hard for you, but because because he's that you know mammoth of a man, that it's is every now and again, it's just you know you can't control.
00:12:26
Chris
You can't control the Hulk inside him.
00:12:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
i I can't think of a game so far of watching him where he looked like he was gonna be beat. I can't, I've, and I don't think there's many wolves players I've ever said that about defensively.
00:12:40
Chris
yeah
00:12:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know we've had some good defenders, don't get me wrong, but physically he's just so, he's so there. And as you said, he's so there, he he's almost ah unaware of his own strength, but just defensively and his awareness as well is just fantastic.
00:13:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And obviously I don't want to jinx it and go on about him too much, but go on.
00:13:04
Chris
If you think back to the Arsenal game,
00:13:09
Chris
Yeah, I was going to say, because if you think in relation to him, if you think back to the arsenal game, there was that moment, I can't remember who the attacker was that's running into the box. And he, they appealed for a penalty and it was turned down.
00:13:20
Chris
And cause Aga just kind of runs across him. It's not even a shoulder bar. He's just so strong. He just kind of runs directly across him.
00:13:26
Will
And.
00:13:27
Chris
And the guy you goes is like crumpling to the floor, like a rag doll. pleading for a penalty, but he didn't have to use his arms.
00:13:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah
00:13:33
Chris
He didn't have to do anything because he's just big and he's strong and he just kind of like ran in his way. And and they were like, no, no foul, good defensive play because he's just a beast.

Transfer Discussions and Potential Signings

00:14:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, we'll do our own little transfer centre. At the time of recording this, there's a few more hours before
00:14:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
the actual window closes. So the way we're going to do this, we're going to talk about the ones that look like they're the most likely to happen. So we briefly before coming on air, we spoke about two ins and one out. I'm going to split this list as if we we're on some sort of a podcast, I guess. Chris, could you do um one of the ins please for me?
00:14:51
Chris
I can. I can. Yes, I can. My gosh, this sentence will and I in the background just go, no, no, no, don't keep saying it like that. Um, it's not a shared effort.
00:15:03
Chris
Um, right. Right.
00:15:05
Will
ah
00:15:06
Chris
So, so yeah, I know.
00:15:07
Will
so the thing is we make this a thing ourselves like if you just listen to that and you you had no context of any of our other episodes you'd be sensible enough to just take it at face value and and not okay anyway sorry
00:15:20
Chris
Don't take anything at face value.
00:15:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
know what?
00:15:24
Chris
um
00:15:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I wasn't even in that episode when when you both were under how i got knows how many innuendos. I wasn't in it, so half the time then I was saying what I was saying. I was thinking, what am I saying wrong?
00:15:33
Chris
You got to be in it.
00:15:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
These two are about to crease themselves. All right. Go on then, Chris. Can you talk to me about a potential future Wolves player?
00:15:41
Chris
You've got to be in it to win it, Nathan. We've just established that. um Right, so I will mention the name of NASA JIGA ah is set to sign a, it's just been updated actually, a five and a half year deal with an option of a further year. It was earlier remitted at four and a half. It's gone up here. NASA JIGA set to sign five and a half year deal with an option for a further year. the He's a Bikini Faso International, 20 years old, 22 years old.
00:16:10
Chris
um
00:16:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:16:11
Chris
The price supposedly is around 10 million pounds, and the medical for both himself and the other person we're going to mention is happening, I believe, as we speak around half past eight right now on Monday evening.
00:16:24
Chris
ah Remind me of the team, actually. For some reason, I've written all these international spaces down.
00:16:27
Will
Is it that stall?
00:16:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Red Star, yeah, Red Star, Belgrade.
00:16:28
Chris
Red star, that's the one, yeah.
00:16:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Now, I don't know if any of you two have been watching any of this stuff. I certainly haven't, but I'm trusting
00:16:39
Chris
I watched one of those montages.
00:16:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, sorry, yeah, other than the YouTube montage, um ah yeah, there's not much else I've got to go off as as as info on him. um Other than the fact that he kind of fits a similar profile to AgriDoo, although he is slightly shorter, um he physically fits a similar profile as in he's quick, he's strong, and those are the sort of scouting reports that are coming out of it. but um Let's hope that our our scouting team have done ah as good a job on him as they did on on Aga.
00:17:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Will, do you want to give a crack at the second pronunciation there for the second player that we've we've heard?
00:17:18
Will
Um, to be honest... Um, no.
00:17:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, fair enough.
00:17:22
Will
I don't want to.
00:17:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah I'll go i' quote Marshall Manetsi is the other... it the other um Chris, do you have much info on on this sentiment?
00:17:33
Chris
Again, not much. I know he's a, I believe this is the Zimbabwean um player and he's signing a three and a half year deal.
00:17:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:41
Chris
So slightly shorter contract with the option of a further year price ah supposedly around 15 million pounds for the midfielder. So it is, I mean, all, all transfer window, Vito has been saying defender in midfielder.
00:17:55
Chris
This is it. Defender in Midfielder. Obviously Danso it looks like wood was as I mentioned I think in the pod yesterday was I discussed how that was obviously one of the first names most linked with us over previous weeks and quite thankful to be honest that didn't work out because it seems like he never wanted to come here and sure enough he's gone to Tottenham.
00:18:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:14
Chris
So this is the next one in line. um I mean of the two I think and the And NASA GIGA, I believe, has been playing in the Champions League this season, right? I believe with Red Star, I want to say.
00:18:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:26
Will
yeah yeah yeah
00:18:27
Chris
So regardless of league, ah what you think of the league competitiveness, at least there's some experience there in like coming across top flight opposition, you know, at European level.
00:18:38
Chris
I'm just saying ah like there's some pedigree there in terms of ah at least having experience playing as the kind of players you might come across in the Premier League with us.
00:18:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:47
Will
Well, I think regardless of which league he's come from, it's always hard to tell purely because nothing compares to the Premier League, um just in terms of all round football.
00:18:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
up
00:18:56
Chris
No.
00:18:59
Will
um but So how much is that overall for both of those two players? About 20 or 30 million, is it?
00:19:08
Chris
So all in. Yeah. So for those two, about 25. And then if you count Aga, I mean, you're putting this up to like 30 to 40 million somewhere in that mark for the three.
00:19:20
Will
I just want to make sure, based off that, that we're still all Auntie Fossoon and Jeff Shee. Just because they panicked a bit and had no other choice but to get the checkbook out a little bit.
00:19:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it does look, ah I mean, we we know how poorly recruitment in the summer was and we've covered it so many times, but it's almost like, where was this in the summer?
00:19:33
Will
um
00:19:40
Will
Yeah.
00:19:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, where where was this quick movement on on needing players in these positions, which we already knew.
00:19:45
Chris
Mm.
00:19:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So, yeah.
00:19:52
Will
And also, why has it been left till now? I mean, I know the deadline's there for a reason and you work up until that, but it's been so quiet at times in recent weeks about transfers. It's just, ah you know, it just, it's just annoying. It's just annoying. I feel like we've put ourselves in a sort of slightly more difficult position than we need to be, thanks to thanks to Jeff.
00:20:19
Chris
Yeah, and I mean, there's two elements to that. The first part, the folks and stuff, I think it transfers in good. We got like, just, I'm happy that there's some happening today, but it, but yeah, a lot bigger picture.
00:20:28
Will
Yeah.
00:20:30
Chris
It doesn't change the fact that, you know, we all knew we needed extra centre backs last summer and having to ah just be in this situation because of a poor management of the overall squad for the past couple of years.
00:20:43
Chris
That, that is not, that thought from is not changed based on one day.
00:20:47
Will
and
00:20:49
Chris
but i'm happy to see them coming in i just it doesn't it but it yeah it doesn't change that the general way it's being planned ahead and being managed you know in terms of sending people out and and so on and the and the money coming in that doesn't change but i'm happy they're coming in in terms of the january thing
00:20:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:59
Will
Yeah.
00:21:06
Chris
It's an awkward one because there's only there's only some certain deals that seem to be able to go through quickly. Aga was quite a fortunate one. But I mean, if you look at the amount of action happening across the Premier League today in general, it's a much bigger flurry and that like always seems to be the last 24 to 48 hours of the window just generally seems
00:21:23
Will
yeah
00:21:23
Chris
a lot more crazy like everyone is like a house of cards and everyone is waiting for someone else to make the move to then trigger okay well that person's gone and now i have to get one in and i if i'm selling this person i have to get another one out or you know and we all day there's been discussions of having too many non-homegrown players and having to let people go for others to come in so it's like it's just i don't think that's necessarily a wolf specific thing
00:21:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think definitely with regards to the the actual pricing as well. Like teams leaving it till so late where we need a centimetre and we need a centre half. We need that depth and you know the clubs that we're buying from are aware of that.
00:22:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it does make you wonder on the just the price points that we're getting these players at, how much more are we actually spending compared to if we actually were looking at them in the summer.
00:22:05
Will
Yeah.
00:22:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
But hey, it is what it is and we're we're hoping that those two do get over the line before um for the deadline is up.

Leadership Changes and Team Dynamics

00:22:20
Chris
Mm-hmm.
00:22:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
With regards to exits, Mario Lemina is at the time recording this in Turkey um for a move to Galatasaray, reported £2.5 million.
00:22:22
Chris
Mm-hmm.
00:22:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
pounds Now, an interesting one on this, and i and I know you guys have got some opinions on it, but since 2022, we have had quite a few exits of our captains.
00:22:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I'll just list them off quickly.
00:22:44
Will
Okay.
00:22:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So back in the summer of 2022, Connor Cody left to join Everton. Then we had Ruben Neves. Will, I apologize for bringing this up. um who was sold to Al Halal in the summer of 2023.
00:22:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Max Kilman the following summer sold to West Ham and then if Mario Lamina leaves, um he will be you know out of the last, what is that, four seasons, the fourth captain to leave, um which is, ah ah it's it a bit worrying, isn't it guys?
00:23:06
Chris
Hmm. Hmm.
00:23:13
Will
Yeah, especially when, um just to just to add on to that trend, um you think of the reports earlier this month about how Samedo's contract talks were underway and the club wanted to keep him and the player wanted to stay. Yeah, that deal has hasn't been signed um in typical Wolves fashion, but I mean, you know you know our thoughts on on the Lamina situation already, but I think it just goes to show you the how much of a failed, mismanaged squad we have had in in that time frame. um you know it just sort of I think that alone sum sums it up really. um so it's It's not ideal.
00:24:02
Chris
Yeah, and in terms of and it links nicely to the other thing that didn't go ahead today in terms of we speak about captains going out and long term plans. The one transfer that came up as a possibility today was ah talks were briefly touched on to between wolves and Lester about about Connor Cody coming back in exchange for Craig Dawson.
00:24:23
Chris
Now the very, I mean, on the one hand, I can, I can see some benefits to it a couple of years younger and knows the club inside out, you know, and a bit more vocal for one thing, if anything, if you just want an extra support in that back line.
00:24:37
Chris
But whatever you think of, of him, the fact that you've let the captain go, that captain go a few, just a few years ago, and then we're trying to get him back.
00:24:48
Will
Yeah.
00:24:48
Chris
Like it's it's an odd, it's an odd situation when you talk about the captaincy.
00:24:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's a dream for the admin team and social media.
00:24:55
Chris
Yeah.
00:24:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, Connor Cody, absolutely fantastic on a podcast and brilliant for your TikTok snippets or whatever. But like, he's not a pre playing center half at the minute. And I think we've been able to see that for the last two years.
00:25:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
People are aware of it. He's just, he's not been at that level. So it's, I don't know if it's even one that's worth looking at. And it just feels like, we we are craving a bit of consistency here where we need to actually be set almost we need to be more set in our ways um obviously good ways but like our most recent success and successful patch was under Nuno where he was so clear on what we want as a squad, his captain was Cody and it was so understood and so consistent that we just build up the good habits. And I feel like with all these different changes, we're not able to get into a rhythm where you can build on a previous season, you're changing captains, you're changing, I mean, the captain is the biggest right biggest role in the chess room, right? And you keep swapping that season on season, how are you expecting to get any sort of like,
00:26:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
coherent momentum for using big words?
00:26:04
Chris
Yeah, and I'm sorry, and because because there is also the chance as well that Samedo current captain goes this summer, because if they don't renew his contract, I believe that's up as well. So and this talk that they went because he's on like one of the highest wages alongside the likes of Sarabia.
00:26:19
Chris
And so that would be two captains going in the space of 2025, potentially.
00:26:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
is that Is that you with an early shout for Sarabia Captain, Chris?
00:26:25
Will
Mm.
00:26:28
Chris
No, no, I meant because the mean are going now as captain and then and then made her going.
00:26:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah. No, no, I was just, I was just, I was just checking, just checking.
00:26:35
Chris
Yeah. Okay. I mean, yeah, I would love it.
00:26:39
Will
the The one thing I did want to add to the Cody and Dawson situation is nothing you spoke there about him simply not being good enough. I mean, I don't think anyone's under the illusion that he would starve for us, not at all.
00:26:52
Chris
No.
00:26:52
Will
um But we have to remember Dawsonism right now and when Dawson has played this season, after a fair few of us called for him to starve us at the start of the season when he was left out he has unfortunately he looked miles off it absolutely miles off last season and the season before when he joined us in that January window and was just a brick I think you know I don't know if it's his age getting to him or or what but he's for whatever reason been you know a shadow of the play he was first first previously and I think the one thing um that Cody would would have
00:27:32
Will
thought to us if the deal was to go through. It's something that I was discussing with my family after the Villa game on the way back home. um ah Even though we had won and, you know, the the vibes were upbeat. I was talking about how, I mean, I can't say the word I used on this podcast, but I still feel as though we've got, apart from maybe Jal Gomez, I just think there's no bottle in our team. I don't, maybe I could do, um we could we could see now that he's come through, but, you know, he's not an established presence in the in the team.
00:28:11
Will
um
00:28:11
Chris
Mm.
00:28:12
Will
Just yet, you know, he's still still still new um But there's just I don't see I don't see Nelson as a long-term captain. I love him I think is a calm head and a great defender a good player, but I do you Do you know what I mean?
00:28:27
Will
In the situation within, it could pay to have someone like when we bought Dawson a few years back, someone who's been there done that, got the t-shirt and got that leadership and experience from that.
00:28:42
Will
um i think I think that is the only positive.
00:28:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
care.
00:28:44
Will
I don't think it's going to happen. But if we were to sign someone who fits that bill before the window, I eyes certainly wouldn't be complaining.
00:28:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I see ah see where you're coming from with it and so i just I guess i the effect that I would expect Dawson to be having on the changing room, in my opinion, would be similar to Cody. like We know that Cody's got that experience at, you know, on international tours of England and whatnot and was obviously very, very successful at Wolves previously as captain, but I just think you know, if we're going to have a cheerleader, ah they're they're both they're behooved just as good as one another with regards to Premier League experience and bringing on players like, you know, Mephew, who we haven't seen or really much at all yet, who, you know, these young players that we've invested in that look for the future, we want these older heads around to be, you know, helping them into Premier League football.
00:29:23
Will
Yeah.
00:29:25
Chris
Mm.
00:29:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I don't know, I think you mentioned Jal Gomez there, but I agree. ah Who are we building this team round? like who what's the Not that that's the way you want to do it necessarily.
00:29:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
You're not trying to you force a player to be the main guy, but what's the you know what's the vision?
00:29:53
Will
hmm
00:29:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I guess Parev has been quite clear on the the formation that he's playing,

Team's Future and Strategy

00:30:02
Chris
Mm hmm.
00:30:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
but it'll be interesting to see, and I mean, we're talking way ahead here, but it'll be interesting to see long-term what the what the scenario and what things will look like.
00:30:11
Will
but i think that's not just the same in terms of our captaincy all the captains going i think there are so many players who
00:30:20
Will
regardless of if we stay up or go down. There are so many players who could leave us this summer. And, you know, if I was them, I wouldn't blame them.
00:30:31
Will
um But it's like I said, it it's I struggle to see who has a ah future, who is part of a long term plan or what that plan may be, because I don't see it with any of our current players now, if I'm honest.
00:30:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:30:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's a tricky one.
00:30:50
Chris
ah Just while we're at, because we are recording this live on transfer night, just as ah an update, we've just seen that Tawanda Chawera has joined Huddersfield Town on loan for the rest of the season.
00:31:03
Chris
Just wanted its to make sure we, yeah, breaking news as it happens.
00:31:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Breaking news.
00:31:06
Chris
I mean, by the time you hear the podcast, it might not be breaking, but as we're doing it, it's breaking, so it counts.
00:31:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah
00:31:11
Chris
um just making sure we don't miss anything and I guess um my question though guys is that I'm gonna put to you both is forget last summer and like we spoke about let's break off the kind of folks and last summer and overall picture for a second just this transfer window given what we know we definitely wanted or needed whether it's what you think we needed or Herrera think we needed thought we needed a If it is, if it ends up being Agbadoo, Jigga, Amenitzi being the three incomings for January, then, and Lemina out, I guess you can count in part of the transactions.

Transfer Window Ratings

00:31:51
Will
Hmm.
00:31:51
Chris
How are we rating? How are you rating the window overall for you guys?
00:31:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's so that's so difficult to say at this moment in time, even if we were to record this in a week's time, I think it'd be a difficult one to to judge, I think.
00:32:06
Chris
I know that you haven't seen them play, but just lay is that enough people?
00:32:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I'm happy.
00:32:09
Chris
Is that more or less than you wanted? like Where you where you are you at?
00:32:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm happy with three incomings. Yeah, genuinely the fact that we've spent the money and gone out and got people that obviously others were interested in, that's good. I think the overall feeling is ah positive and the fact that Ag has been as good as he has so far is I want to be the optimist and trust that the other two will be as good as well.
00:32:30
Will
Yeah, I think Chris, if you were after the rating, I don't think I'm quite as upbeat as Nathan is about it, but I would give it a six. I think it's it's enough to keep us up.
00:32:43
Will
above the absolute cross that is below us, um but I don't think it's anything more than that. um And even then I think that's, you know, time time will tell. um But I think, you know, we've we've ticked the boxes, we've got the centre half, or two centre halves that we've been crying out for, and I suppose You know, we've got rid of a bit of dead wood in the way of lamina. But aside from that, I don't think it's anything to lie home about. I just think it would be just enough to to get us over the line.
00:33:22
Chris
I think just based on that we showed again on Saturday that when everyone plays as a team I know i know Villa had injuries but even so like you said there's still a good premiership side who've had some great form over the last couple of seasons for large periods and so
00:33:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:33:27
Will
and Yeah.
00:33:38
Chris
You know, we showed again that when they play as a team and play in the solid formation and with ah even just with Aga and Totti in that back line, you know, that everything was more coherent and that there is the capability to play well and stay above Ipswich, maybe even push on a bit more. I'd love to see that.
00:33:56
Chris
And arguably having the three, having well, two extra Kazagas already here, but the two extra incomings just gives whether or not they become starters right away or or whatever.
00:34:07
Chris
Having that extra depth that we've been lacking just gives another, another boon really, hopefully, because we, we do have a good decent, that we've mentioned it again and again, there's a good starting lineup there for the most part.
00:34:14
Will
Yeah.
00:34:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:34:20
Chris
It's just, there wasn't always people to come on in certain positions or replace them if they're suspended or injured or whatever it is.
00:34:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
100% and it will definitely add um a lot more depth. And before I get some closing thoughts from you guys, um just a final reminder that this podcast is part of the Global Sports Podcast Network, the only network bringing you exclusive daily news and views on your Premier League, the Premier League, women's football and fantasy football, and even breaking news apparently in this episode.

00:35:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
transfer business. That's if we get the the two in that we mentioned and um obviously I go in as well. Chris, I'm going to force you for a rating as well. We usually end this on you know score predictions, ratings, anything like that. So you're goingnna you're going to raise Will's score of six.
00:35:21
Chris
Um, it's a tricky one. I wasn't expecting to give a number either when it was the one that brought numbers or number ratings into it. Um, but I'll go. Yeah, I mean, I'll go. I mean, just for the, actually given that, you know, Aga alone has been for 16 and a 0.6 million or whatever his total is going to be in the end. I think he's showing that he's worth that.
00:35:45
Chris
already just within the first, what, four or five games. I know we've spoken about his wayward passing with his extreme strength, but the that he just looks so solid. And if that if he's got any more room to just grow into the Premier League the with the way he started, arguably that's a great sight. That's just worth it, weight, learning goals. So I'll go for a seven, given that Agar is part of that bunch.
00:36:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, good stuff. i I'll echo a seven as well. and Honestly, I thought you were going to say if it can grow anymore, if the bloke grows anymore, they'll have to play a different sport. But on that note, everyone, a quick reminder that, oh, go on.
00:36:19
Chris
Oh, sorry, sorry.
00:36:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Chris has got another one. Chris has got another one before we leave you.
00:36:23
Chris
Well, there was one other thing we were rumored to good do, but i well actually, yeah, I'll drop a couple of things. One is apparently it's been reported while we've been on the show as well that Wolves did reportedly approach for 15 million that was rejected, the Udinese defender, Thomas Thiessen Christiansen, but that one didn't pan out in this whole process of looking forward defenders, just dropping that in there.
00:36:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah okay yeah but keep listening to the wolves daily podcast app that's the way we want it round but yeah um as usual everyone just a quick reminder that out of darkness come with light
00:36:48
Chris
um But lastly as well, if you didn't catch it, check out Burnley's Twitter feed for their post about their incoming user piece of footage from friends.
00:36:58
Chris
It's fantastic. Just go out there people and watch it.
