Today,  we’ll learn about the very first story in the Bible, Creation! Listen along with your kids as Hannah tries to capture the awe and wonder of this amazing part of God’s Big Story!

Want to Keep Talking? Here are some ideas:

  • Play “I spy” and then say, “God created that!” (ages 0-4)
  • Ask, “How can you see God’s amazing workmanship outdoors? Where are some places you’d like to visit?” (ages 5-9)
  • Ask, “What are some things you like about yourself?” Say, “All people are created by God and important to Him.” (ages 10 -12)

One last thing! This week, Hannah asked the question, “What’s your favorite thing that God created?” Send in your kids answer by texting a voice memo to 636-280-5433 and they could be featured in next week's episode!

The following podcast is a Jill Devine Media production. We're just normal kids learning about God's big story. Welcome to normal goes a long way. For kids. Hi, friends. It's Miss Hannah. Welcome back to our podcast. I'm so excited to jump in with our first story of God's big story. It's the story

Understanding God

00:00:22

of creation. But before we jump in, I asked you a question last week. I asked you to think about, what do you know about God? And here's what you told me.
00:00:33
Speaker
He created the world. He's in heaven. He's in our hearts and He always takes care of us and loves us. Friends, what's your favorite animal?

Exploring Animals

00:00:43
Speaker
I think mine is the koala because they look so soft and cuddly. I would love to hug a koala. We're going to hear today about how God made everything we see, including cute koalas. But before we do that, let's hear from an awesome kid with some super fun facts.
00:01:03
Speaker
It's time for some food bags! My name is Lou and I'm eight years old. The blue whale is the largest animal on earth. The tongue of a blue whale can weigh as much as an adult elephant. Butterflies taste with their feet. Dolphins have names for each other. They have special whistles to call to each other. Those were some

amazing fun facts. Isn't it cool that God made so many different kinds of animals? Okay, we gotta back up. Before God made those animals, there was nothing.
00:01:35
Speaker
Kind of weird to think about, isn't it? It sort of makes my brain hurt, but before there was the earth, there was just nothing. There was just God. And God is so powerful, he can make things just with his words. He made everything that we see.
00:01:50
Speaker
the Earth, space, the sky, the galaxies, everything. Now, I make things all the time. I make my bed. I make myself a sandwich for lunch, but that's not the kind of making that God does. See, when you or I make something, we use materials that we can see, that we can find. Things are already created. We just sort of rearrange them. But God made something out of nothing. The very first thing that God did is say, let there be light.
00:02:21
Speaker
And then there was, isn't that amazing? Just with his words, God created light. Wow, I wonder what that would have looked like. And then God separated the light from the darkness. He called the light day and he called the darkness night. That was the first day of creation. Can you hold up one

Creation of Life

00:02:40

finger? First day of creation. He looked at the day and the night and he said, it was good. Say that with me, say it is good.
00:02:51
Speaker
It is good. And then on the second day of creation, hold up two fingers, God created the sky and the atmosphere. Isn't the sky so beautiful? Sometimes I look up at the sky and I see blue clear skies or sometimes I see beautiful clouds. And when the sun sets at night, we can see pretty pinks and oranges and reds in the sky. God created the sky and he looked at it and he said,
00:03:17
Speaker
It is good. Say it with me. It is good. That was the end of day two. So now we're on to day three of creation. Show me a three. On day three, God used his powerful words to create the land and the water. He decided to tell the water to go over here and the land to go over here. And he created oceans and seas and rivers and streams. Isn't it amazing that God can tell land and water where to go? And then he filled the land with plants like sunflowers and coconut trees and tomato plants.
00:03:58
Speaker
everything that you see that's growing, God created with his words. So he filled the land and he looked at everything he made, the land and the sea and the plants. And God said, it is good. Say it with me, it is good. Well, now we're on to day four of creation. Show me a four with your fingers. Day four, God filled the sky and space with some great big lights.
00:04:25
Speaker
Can you think of what's the great big light you see during the day? It's the sun. God created the sun to govern the day. That means the sun brings us the light we need during the day.
00:04:37
Speaker
And then God thought we needed a light during the nighttime too. So he created the moon. Whoa, what would that have looked like when God created the moon? Boom, there's the moon. And then God filled the sky with stars. Oh, I love looking up at the stars. There's so many of them and some are really bright and some are close and some are far away. I can't believe God created all of those with just his words.
00:05:04
Speaker
So he looked at the sun and the moon and the stars and he said, it is good. Say it with me, it is good. On day five, God filled the water and the sky with animals. Let's start with the sea. Can

Garden of Eden and the Fall

00:05:22
Speaker
you think of any sea creatures? God filled the sea with starfish and clownfish.
00:05:28
Speaker
and squid and sharks chomp. There's a lot of amazing and silly and cool looking things in the sea. And then God looked at the sky and thought, I should fill that too. So he made everything that flies. God made owls and blue jays and woodpeckers and falcons. Can you think of another thing that flies? God looked at all those fish and all those birds and he said, it is good. Say it with me.
00:05:58
Speaker
It is good. That was on day five, so we're on to day six. Show me six with your hands. On day six, God looked at the land and decided to fill it with wild animals. Hello animals. Boom. All of a sudden it was filled with God filled it with things like giraffes and water buffalo and koalas, my favorite. Can you imagine what it would have been like to have a quiet world. But then all of a sudden, it's filled with all of these animals. I'm sure it got pretty noisy. We could hear growling or snorting or snapping or roaring because God made all of the cool, interesting animals of the world. He looked at them and he said, it is good. Say it again with me, it is good. But God was not done creating. In fact, he saved the best for last.
00:06:57
Speaker
Do you have any idea what God's favorite creation was? It's people. Yeah, God created the first man and the first woman. Now to do this, God used a little more than his words. So he took some dirt from the ground, he formed a human, and then...
00:07:19
Speaker
God breathed his very own life into the human and he woke up and it was a man named Adam. That's amazing. And then God looked at Adam, the first man, and he thought, this man needs a helper. So he took a rib from Adam.
00:07:38
Speaker
Do you know where your ribs are? Take your finger and poke your side, kind of on the side of your belly. You feel that bone right there? That's a rib. God took one of Adam's ribs and he used it to form another human, a woman, name eve and Now this man and this woman, they were God's favorite creation. And you know what? You're God's favorite too.
00:08:04
Speaker
God loves humans and he created us to be with him, to love him and know his love and to be his friend. And God

Promise of Redemption

00:08:13
Speaker
looked at Adam and Eve and he said, they are very good. Say that with me, they are very good.
00:08:21
Speaker
And then God gave Adam and Eve a perfect home. They lived in a place called the Garden of Eden. Can you say that with me? The Garden of Eden. The Garden of Eden was a perfect home for Adam and Eve because they had everything they needed. They had beautiful things to look at and food to eat and they got to be with God.
00:08:44
Speaker
Whoa, can you imagine what it would be like to see God every day? So Adam and Eve lived happily together in this beautiful, perfect home with God, and everything was great until, well, until something went wrong. You see, God had one rule for them in this perfect garden. He had a rule for them that they could eat everything they could see except for one tree. Now, God wanted to keep Adam and Eve safe, and so he made a rule to keep them safe. but there was a snake, a sneaky snake, an enemy, and he lied to Adam and Eve. Now a lie is when you say something that's not true. In fact, he was trying to trick Adam and Eve. He told them, this lying snake, that they could be like God and that God really didn't mind them breaking the rule. And so Adam and Eve, they listened to the snake
00:09:43
Speaker
They broke God's rule and they ate from the tree that he had told them not to eat from. So after God made this perfect world and after Adam and Eve broke God's rule and the world was broken, God promised to send a rescuer. We're gonna hear more about God's amazing rescue plan in a future story. But first, let's get to the point. God created everything. He made me to know Him. That's right. God wants you to know Him because he loves you so much and he wants to be your friend forever. So here's what I'd love for you to talk about with your family. What is your favorite thing that God created? Talk about it together in the car or as you're making dinner this week. And then if you want to share with me what you guys discussed, you can go to normalgosalongway.com to look at the show notes where we tell you how to send in a voice memo.
00:10:40
Speaker
because you could even be featured on a future episode of this podcast. Don't forget, God loves you with a great big love.
