Today we will learn about a time when David made a big mistake. God demonstrated extraordinary love to David and he shares that extraordinary love with us today. Parents, want to keep talking? Here are some ideas:

*When necessary this week, stop and pray with your child asking God to forgive your child when he or she has done something wrong. In appropriate ways, show your child that you also need to ask God to forgive you. (ages 2-4)

*King David was called a man after God's heart, but he made a huge mistake and tried to cover it up. Is hiding sins ever a good idea? Why? Talk about what it feels like when you are trying to hide something that you've done. What's the best thing to do when you mess up? (ages 5-9)

*God forgave David, but there were still consequences for his sin as David and Bathsheba's first son died. Can you think of any consequences you've faced after doing something wrong? Talk about some of David's greatest accomplishments and mess-ups. What can you learn from his life? (ages 10-12)

One last thing! This week April asked you to name some songs that you love to sing to God. We would love to hear your ideas! Simply record a voice memo and send it in a text to 636-280-5433. You may even be featured in an upcoming episode. *By sending in a voice memo, you’re providing consent for your minor’s voice to be on the podcast*

Recap and Encouragement on Bravery

00:00:26
Speaker
Last week Hannah asked, what could you do if you were as brave as David?
00:00:32
Speaker
Here's what you told us. When I get hurt and I'm bleeding, a bandaid. I can do things that I wouldn't usually do because I'm scared and I would be brave during them. I can tell the boys to stop making fun of myself.
00:00:46
Speaker
Great answers. Keep being brave, kids.

Fun Facts About David from Kids

00:00:50
Speaker
Today we'll hear from an awesome kid with some super fun facts about David.
00:00:57
Speaker
It's time for the Full Fast. I'm Allison and I'm 10 years old. I'm Riley and I'm six years old. David was from Bethlehem. David was the youngest in his family. He had seven brothers. David liked to make up songs and play instruments.
00:01:15
Speaker
David became the king of God's people. He was a great king who loved God with all of his heart. The people loved King David because he brought peace to their land and brought so much goodness.
00:01:29
Speaker
He listened to God and obeyed. David would often write songs and poems praising God for being so wonderful. He wanted his people to have a special place to worship, so he made plans to build a beautiful temple for God.

David's Sin and Realization

00:01:45
Speaker
David loved God so much, but a time came when he broke God's heart. David fell in love with another man's wife. He made sure that her husband was put in a very dangerous situation so that he could be the husband instead.
00:02:04
Speaker
David was very happy about this, but this was a terrible mistake and made God so sad. One of David's friends, Nathan, came to David and helped him understand what a huge mistake he had made.
00:02:18
Speaker
David's heart ached. He was so sad to disappoint God.

David's Repentance and Forgiveness

00:02:23
Speaker
He immediately told God how sorry he was and prayed for forgiveness. David understood that he needed his heart to change.
00:02:32
Speaker
Listen to the words David uses in one of his poems. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. You see, David recognized that when he had made a mistake, when he had sinned, he didn't want to keep doing it.
00:02:49
Speaker
He wanted to apologize to God and he wanted God to forgive him and help him get back to doing what was right. It's hard to think about disappointing God. God has given us everything we have, right?
00:03:01
Speaker
He's wonderful to us. He loves us always and forever. We want to make God happy, but sometimes we will make mistakes. It's part of being a human.
00:03:14
Speaker
When we realize that we have done something that we shouldn't have, when we know we have sinned, we should tell God that we are sorry. We also need to tell the people that we hurt that we are sorry too.
00:03:27
Speaker
God asks us to repent when we have done something wrong. That means we apologize and then we turn away from that wrong thing. We stop doing it because we want to do what is right and what is good.

God's Unconditional Love and Forgiveness

00:03:42
Speaker
No matter what mistakes you make, God will always love you. And when you tell God that you are sorry, he is ready to forgive you. The Bible is full of poems written by David.
00:03:55
Speaker
I want to read one of those special poems right now. I want you to picture King David because these are his words. God is my shepherd and I am his little lamb.
00:04:06
Speaker
He feeds me. He guides me. He looks after me. have everything I need. Inside my heart is very quiet, as quiet as lying still in soft green grass in a meadow by a little stream.
00:04:21
Speaker
Even when I walk through the dark, scary, lonely places, i won't be afraid because my shepherd knows where I am. He is here with me. He keeps me safe.
00:04:32
Speaker
He rescues me. He makes me strong and brave. He is getting wonderful things ready for me, especially for me, everything I ever dreamed of. He fills my heart so full of happiness, I can't hold it all inside.
00:04:48
Speaker
Wherever I go, i know God's never stopping, never giving up, unbreaking, always and forever love will go too.

David's Praise and Gratitude Through Song

00:04:56
Speaker
So let's get to the point. God forgave David's sins.
00:05:01
Speaker
God forgives me when I'm sorry for doing wrong things. When we make a mistake, God is ready to listen to our apology and forgive us. What a relief.
00:05:13
Speaker
We may be disappointed when we do wrong, but the good news is that we have a God that is loving and forgiving. King David knew this about God and he was so grateful.
00:05:24
Speaker
David spent a lot of time singing to God. Singing can be a special way of loving on God. Today with your family, I want you to name some songs that you love to sing to God.
00:05:36
Speaker
Make sure to tell us what your family talked about so we can feature you in an upcoming episode. Record a voice memo and send it in a text to 636-280-5433. We can't wait hear from Don't forget, loves you great love.
