Speaker: We're just normal kids learning about God's big story. Welcome to Normal Goes a Long Way. kids! Hello, everybody. We are so happy that you are back and ready to discover another part of God's story.
Speaker: I'm Miss April, and today we are going to learn about a time when David made big mistake. Last week Hannah asked, what could you do if you were as brave as David?
Speaker: Here's what you told us. When I get hurt and I'm bleeding, a bandaid. I can do things that I wouldn't usually do because I'm scared and I would be brave during them. I can tell the boys to stop making fun of myself.
Speaker: Great answers. Keep being brave, kids. Today we'll hear from an awesome kid with some super fun facts about David.
Speaker: It's time for the Full Fast. I'm Allison and I'm 10 years old. I'm Riley and I'm six years old. David was from Bethlehem. David was the youngest in his family. He had seven brothers. David liked to make up songs and play instruments.
Speaker: David became the king of God's people. He was a great king who loved God with all of his heart. The people loved King David because he brought peace to their land and brought so much goodness.
Speaker: He listened to God and obeyed. David would often write songs and poems praising God for being so wonderful. He wanted his people to have a special place to worship, so he made plans to build a beautiful temple for God.
Speaker: David loved God so much, but a time came when he broke God's heart. David fell in love with another man's wife. He made sure that her husband was put in a very dangerous situation so that he could be the husband instead.
Speaker: David was very happy about this, but this was a terrible mistake and made God so sad. One of David's friends, Nathan, came to David and helped him understand what a huge mistake he had made.
Speaker: David's heart ached. He was so sad to disappoint God. He immediately told God how sorry he was and prayed for forgiveness. David understood that he needed his heart to change.
Speaker: Listen to the words David uses in one of his poems. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. You see, David recognized that when he had made a mistake, when he had sinned, he didn't want to keep doing it.
Speaker: He wanted to apologize to God and he wanted God to forgive him and help him get back to doing what was right. It's hard to think about disappointing God. God has given us everything we have, right?
Speaker: He's wonderful to us. He loves us always and forever. We want to make God happy, but sometimes we will make mistakes. It's part of being a human.
Speaker: When we realize that we have done something that we shouldn't have, when we know we have sinned, we should tell God that we are sorry. We also need to tell the people that we hurt that we are sorry too.
Speaker: God asks us to repent when we have done something wrong. That means we apologize and then we turn away from that wrong thing. We stop doing it because we want to do what is right and what is good.
Speaker: No matter what mistakes you make, God will always love you. And when you tell God that you are sorry, he is ready to forgive you. The Bible is full of poems written by David.
Speaker: I want to read one of those special poems right now. I want you to picture King David because these are his words. God is my shepherd and I am his little lamb.
Speaker: He feeds me. He guides me. He looks after me. have everything I need. Inside my heart is very quiet, as quiet as lying still in soft green grass in a meadow by a little stream.
Speaker: Even when I walk through the dark, scary, lonely places, i won't be afraid because my shepherd knows where I am. He is here with me. He keeps me safe.
Speaker: He rescues me. He makes me strong and brave. He is getting wonderful things ready for me, especially for me, everything I ever dreamed of. He fills my heart so full of happiness, I can't hold it all inside.
Speaker: Wherever I go, i know God's never stopping, never giving up, unbreaking, always and forever love will go too. So let's get to the point. God forgave David's sins.
Speaker: God forgives me when I'm sorry for doing wrong things. When we make a mistake, God is ready to listen to our apology and forgive us. What a relief.
Speaker: We may be disappointed when we do wrong, but the good news is that we have a God that is loving and forgiving. King David knew this about God and he was so grateful.
Speaker: David spent a lot of time singing to God. Singing can be a special way of loving on God. Today with your family, I want you to name some songs that you love to sing to God.
