Speaker: For kids! Hi friends, it's Miss Hannah. Welcome back to the podcast. Thanks for joining us again where we can hear another amazing story about God.
Speaker: All of these stories in God's big story point to him and how he is full of so much love and power. But before we jump in, I want to hear your answers from last week's question.
Speaker: We asked you, how does it feel when you are forgiven for a mistake? Here's what you shared. makes me feel happy. To me, it feels good. And i feel like I want to play with my baby sister now.
Speaker: I feel happy because I forgave someone God is so good to forgive us. And here's some really good news, friends. He never gets tired of it.
Speaker: He can forgive us again and again and again. no matter how many times we mess up, God loves us enough to forgive us every single time.
Speaker: He is just so good. Today, we're going to hear some interesting facts about prophets. um It's time for Shephote Fest.
Speaker: My name is Charlie and I'm eight years old. The prophet is a person who speaks for God. The prophet warns people of danger. prophet tells the leaders what they should do. Prophet might be a new word for you, but now you know all about them. And today's story includes some prophets. So let's remember where we are in God's big story. God's people, who we sometimes call the Israelites,
Speaker: They started making some really bad choices. In fact, their kings stopped trusting God. They forgot about all the amazing things God had done for them, like parting the Red Sea and delivering them from slavery and being with them and giving them the promised land.
Speaker: They forgot God was good and they didn't love him anymore. They didn't listen to his words. And so God had a new plan to reach his people.
Speaker: God chose faithful, good men and women to be his prophets. And prophets are people that speak for God. So here's how it would work. It's kind of like a game of telephone.
Speaker: God would tell his messages to the prophets and the prophets would share these messages with the people or with the leaders of the people. And for about 200 years, God sent prophets to speak for him.
Speaker: He wanted to tell his people that he loved them and he wanted them to listen to him again. Now, these prophets didn't just talk about God. They did share his messages, but they also got to show his power through miracles.
Speaker: Say, whoa. Whoa is a right. Because do you know what a miracle is? A miracle is something amazing and incredible that only God can do.
Speaker: miracle is something that can't be explained by science anymore. It's something that only God's power can do. And so these prophets also got to share God's power along with his messages.
Speaker: In the Bible, we read about a lot of prophets like Jeremiah and Ezekiel and Malachi and Joel and Jonah. And we can read their stories in God's word in the Bible.
Speaker: But today I'm going to tell you just about a few of them. First, I'm going to tell you about Elijah. So there was this time that God's people got confused. They forgot that he was in control of everything.
Speaker: And they thought that maybe there was another God in control of the weather. That is silly. You and I know that is not true. But... God, to prove that he was in control of the weather, he made it stop raining for years. In fact, for years, there was no rain because God wanted to show his people he was really in control of the weather.
Speaker: And then when the prophet Elijah prayed to God and said, please send us rain again. He did. That is amazing. And another time, Elijah asked God to send fire from the sky and whoosh, fire came down and even lit some stuff on fire that was soaking wet.
Speaker: I mean, it couldn't have happened without God's power. And Elijah even at the end of his life showed God's power in another amazing way. You see, Elijah didn't die and go to heaven like most people do.
Speaker: When his work was done at the end of his life, God sent a fiery chariot with horses of fire to scoop up Elijah and carry him straight into heaven.
Speaker: Can you even imagine seeing that, friends? Zoom, zoom, fire, whoosh, goodbye, Elijah. Wow. And after Elijah went to heaven, there was another one, another prophet named Elisha.
Speaker: His name is a little bit different, even though it sounds similar. Elisha. And he was also someone who shared God's messages and he got to share God's power too.
Speaker: Here's a story of one time that happened. There was a man named Naaman and Naaman was a powerful, strong army commander, but he had a terrible disease called leprosy.
Speaker: It made his skin really painful and it would even harm his fingers and toes. And Elisha, God's prophet, told Naaman to go wash in the river seven times. Now, at first Naaman didn't want to. it sounded too simple. It sounded like that wouldn't do anything.
Speaker: But Naaman decided to finally listen to Elisha. He obeyed. He went and he washed in the river. And then his skin was completely healed.
Speaker: It was like brand new. The leprosy, the skin disease was all gone. Now, could Elisha have done that himself? No. And did Naaman make his skin all better?
Speaker: No, it was a gift of God. It was a miracle. Naaman was so happy he actually tried to pay Elisha to say thank you. But Elisha said, no way, you can't pay for this. It wasn't me.
Speaker: It was God who healed you. And God's gifts are free. Isn't that awesome? All throughout all of these prophets, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Elijah, Elisha, they all shared God's messages with the people and showed God's power.
Speaker: God's power is something amazing that we still see today. And God's messages are brought to us through reading the Bible and through people like our teachers and our pastors.
Speaker: who share God's word with us to help us understand who he is. So let's get to the point. God helped Elijah and Elisha. God helps me too.
Speaker: Elijah and Elisha remind us that God speaks through people and he shows amazing power. So here's my question. Talk about it with your family. When have you seen God's power?
Speaker: Grownups, this might be really good time to share with your kids about God showing his power in your life. Maybe it was a time he answered a prayer. Maybe it was a time he helped you when you really needed it.
Speaker: Or maybe it was something beautiful he created and blessed you with. Talk about it with your family and then please share with us. We want to hear your answers. So record a voice memo and send it in a text to the number 636-280-5433.
Speaker: We might feature you on an upcoming episode. And remember friends, God still speaks to us today. He has amazing power that we can see and he loves you with a great big love.
