Today we heard about King Solomon. He became the wisest king in history, because He asked God to bless him with wisdom! Keep talking about this story at home by using some of these discussion starters:

*(ages 2-4) What is a good choice? What is a poor choice? Who can help you make good choices? Pray: Dear God, please help me make good choices!

*(ages 5-9) Being wise means being able to tell right from wrong. Why is it a good thing to be wise? Read a proverb that corresponds to today’s date. (If it’s the 30th, read Proverbs 30) Try to memorize it together!

*(ages 10-12) What is an example of a situation where you could ask God to give you wisdom? One of the Proverbs says, “The fear (respect) of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Would you agree with that? Would your friends and teachers agree with that?

One last thing! This week Hannah asked you to “If God offered to give you anything you wanted, what would you ASK Him for?”. We would love to hear your ideas! Simply record a voice memo and send it in a text to 636-280-5433. You may even be featured in an upcoming episode. *By sending in a voice memo, you’re providing consent for your minor’s voice to be on the podcast*

Excitement About Learning Bible Stories

00:00:15
Speaker
I am Miss Hannah, and I'm so glad you're back to listen to another part of God's big story. It's been so fun learning about all of these people in the Bible who were real, by the way.
00:00:27
Speaker
So cool that we get to hear their stories and learn more about God because of their stories.

Praising God Through Songs

00:00:33
Speaker
So last week we asked you to name some songs that you love to sing to God.
00:00:40
Speaker
and here's what you told us. I ran out of that grave and fixed my eyes. My lighthouse. I love those songs too. ah Did you know singing to God is a way to praise Him?

Introduction to Solomon and His Dream

00:00:51
Speaker
That means to thank Him for how amazing He is and to just tell Him that we love Him. Well, today we are going to hear some interesting facts about the man in our Bible story. It's time for us to focus.
00:01:08
Speaker
My name is Caden and I'm seven. Solomon was King David's son. Solomon was extremely rich. Solomon loved God. That's right. We're learning all about Solomon today.
00:01:22
Speaker
So Solomon was the son of King David. You remember King David, right? He's the one that fought Goliath with a slingshot? Yep, that David. So, King David had a son named Solomon, and Solomon loved God.
00:01:37
Speaker
God was with him and made him a strong and powerful king. So, one night, something amazing happened. God appeared to Solomon in a dream.
00:01:50
Speaker
Wow, I can't imagine what that would be like, but it gets even better. God said to Solomon, what do you want?

Solomon's Request for Wisdom

00:01:59
Speaker
Ask and I will give you anything.
00:02:01
Speaker
Wow, imagine if God asked you that. What would you say? Would you want a giant pile of candy or a pet dragon? or to see into the future.
00:02:13
Speaker
Oh, it's hard to decide. But here's what Solomon did. He didn't ask for treasure or for toys or a pet dragon. Instead, Solomon said, god it you me.
00:02:25
Speaker
love me And you made me king, but I feel like I don't know the way. i don't know how to be king. There are so many people to lead and I want to lead them well. So God, please give me wisdom and an understanding heart so that I can know right from wrong and so that I can be a good king for your people.
00:02:47
Speaker
Wow, friends, wisdom is more than just being smart. Wisdom is understanding God's way and understanding God's heart, knowing right from wrong and making good choices.
00:02:59
Speaker
And God was so happy that Solomon asked for wisdom because it showed that Solomon really did just want to help others. His desire was to be a good king. And so God said, certainly, yes, I will give you wisdom and knowledge.

Solomon's Wisdom and Proverbs

00:03:18
Speaker
And God said something else really cool. He said, because you didn't ask for riches or to be famous, I'm going to give you those things too.
00:03:29
Speaker
so Wow. So Solomon woke up. He realized it was not just a dream. It was real. And God really did bless him with incredible wisdom and incredible riches.
00:03:45
Speaker
In fact, Solomon became the wisest king ever and one of the richest People traveled from so far away just to hear him speak and learn from him.
00:04:00
Speaker
And so Solomon actually wrote down many wise sayings, very smart things and wise things he wanted to teach people. And all of those wise sayings from King Solomon were are written down in a book of the Bible.
00:04:14
Speaker
And that book is called Proverbs. And here are some of the Proverbs that he wrote. Get freely and become more wealthy. be stingy and lose everything. Worry, weigh the person down. ah An encouraging word, ah cheer the person up.
00:04:31
Speaker
Commit your actions to the Lord and your plans will succeed. Lazy people are soon poor. Hard workers get rich. Hatred stirs up quarrels, but love makes up for all offenses. Wise people treasure knowledge, but the babbling of a fool invites disaster. Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. Intelligent people are always ready to learn.
00:04:54
Speaker
Their ears are open for knowledge. Evil people will get rich for the moment, but the reward of the godly will last. A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted. People with understanding control their anger.
00:05:08
Speaker
A hot temper shows great foolishness. A bowl vegetables with someone you love is better than steak with someone you hate.
00:05:19
Speaker
Kind words are like honey, sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. Better to be patient than powerful. Better to have self-control than to conquer a city.
00:05:32
Speaker
One of my favorite proverbs from Solomon says to trust the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. That just means that we can trust God because he is wiser than we are. If we try to live our way, doesn't always work out. But when we try to live God's way, he will bless

Encouragement to Seek Wisdom

00:05:52
Speaker
us.
00:05:52
Speaker
That's some pretty good advice from King Solomon, isn't it? I want you to remember that no matter what you do, you can ask God for wisdom too, just like Solomon did. So let's get to the point.
00:06:05
Speaker
Solomon asked God help him make smart choices. God can help me make smart choices too. God can help you make smart choices and it's as easy as doing this.
00:06:16
Speaker
You can stop and pray to him and ask for his help like this. Dear God, I need your wisdom right now. Help me to make a good choice.
00:06:29
Speaker
We say prayers like that all the time in my household, and you can do it too. God will help you be wise and make smart choices if you ask him.

00:06:37
Speaker
So today with your family, talk about this question.
00:06:41
